Katherine Anne Porter Here is a woman who put things straight through the will of God. Katherine
Anne Porter did it all, and chose perfection of life and of work. She worked as a critic, a singer, an
actress, and most importantly of all a writer. Through numerous marriages, divorces, deaths, and
personal crises, Porter established herself as accomplished author. Porter s collection of works
includes: short stories, short storie collcetions, short novels, novels, and essays. Katherine Anne Porter

stories, and essays. Katherine Anne Porter s most brilliant technical accomplishment, the novel The
Jilting of Granny Weatherall . It was first published in a magazine in February, 1929. The afterwards
collected in Porter s first published book, Flowering Judas. The story involves a dying woman s
memory of being left at the altar on her wedding day and her current fear of being jilted in a similar
manner by God. It gives a portrait of an eighty year old granny on her death bed; it gives an
exploration of the human mind as it struggles to come to terms with loss and mortality. In her essay
The Eye of the Story, fellow southern writer and critic Eudora Welty observed that Most good stories
are about the interior of our lives, but Katherine Anne Porter s stories take place there; they surface
only at her choosing. ( ) The Jilting of Granny Weatherall is certainly one of these interior stories. The
Jilting of Granny Weatherall is told by a third person narrator, readers are drawn into the mind of Ellen
Weatherall (granny) and what takes place in her life through her memories. (Martor, 1:116) Readers
laugh along with her, for example, When she teases the doctor about his youth. Gradually, however,
Ellen s grasp of reality slips off its moorings and she begins to journey back into her past. (martor 1:

Literary Techniques Used In Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card

George Lucas New Wave
During the 1960s and 1970s many nations around the world had a film revolution where young
filmmakers were making new and different types of movies, they called this movement a New Wave.
Although Hollywood was was the film capital of the world, it also went through a movement where
young directors were taking control of their films over the production studios, the films were reaching
to younger audiences, and the films were generally more independent and had to be cheap. The reason
for this new wave movement was because old Hollywood was losing money and it needed a new way
of making films, it needed to be shaken up. Influence from all over the globe helped spark the
American movement, the French, German, Latin American, and British New ... Show more content on

George Lucas was one of these directors, being 29 at the time of directing his second film American
Graffiti. Lucas was challenged by Francis Ford Coppola to produce a script that would appeal to
mainstream audiences(Hearn). Lucas, accepting the challenge, based the script of the film off of his
1960s teen years in Modesto, California. Lucas felt his experience with picking up girls in the 60s
would induce nostalgia into the similarly aged moviegoers at the time. The movie was aimed toward
people from ages 20 to 30 and Lucas based each of the four main male characters on different points
in his life. Lucas felt compelled to document the whole experience and what my generation used as a
way of meeting girls(Hearn). Lucas being a new young director had trouble pitching the idea to
financiers and distributors, where he was turned down by every studio except for Universal Pictures.
The lack of financiers forced Lucas to create his own production company, Lucasfilms Ltd and partner
up with Francis Ford Coppola s production company in order for the film to get enough money to be
made. For this reason, the movie also had to be cheap, which was another characteristic of general
new wave cinema. The film had a production budget of $777,000, however, the movie was an
immense success earning over $140,000,000

The American Of The United States
The United States is one of the largest countries that are made up of individuals from diverse origins
and cultures. In addition, most foreigners from the other parts of the world migrated to the U.S, or
become American citizens under different circumstances, especially during the 18th, 19th and the 20th
centuries. Black Americans for example, arose in the American culture as a result of the numerous
Africans who were being sold to the whites in order for them to work in the cotton and pyrethrum
plantations. Mexican Americans arose as a result of the Mexican American war which occurred during
the 1830s and 1840s, where Mexico conceded defeat and surrendered part of its territory to the United
States. After the end of this war, the Mexicans who were residing in the surrendered Mexican land
territory were transferred to the U.S, and most of them were located in California and the present day
New Mexico (Kos 2011). Just like the African Americans and the other cultures that were being
considered inferior by the white Americans, the Mexican Americans started experiencing oppression
in various ways including social and economic oppression, soon after their migration to the U.S. and
which continues to this day, this country of freedom needs to be legitimately free not just white native
born Americans, but everyone that calls the United States home and the Mexican immigrants that
settle in the southwest deserve the freedoms this country provides, and not be economically oppressed

Health Care and the Reform Essay
Health insurance was developed to provide guaranteed coverage for sickness, injury and preventable
health measures. Currently, the United States is facing a major challenge in controlling the cost of
health care and providing coverage for everyone. This is why it is so important for the government to
develop a new health care insurance plan. The purpose of this paper is to explore the history of health
care, the major improvements made to coverage through the years. Discussing the healthcare reform
and the plans to improve the quality, and cost of health care for everyone in the United States.

With the guarantee of payment the first provider health care program was born. It was called Blue
Shield. Blue Shield s role was to negotiate with doctors and hospitals for reduced prices in exchange
for a high volume of customers and guaranteed payment. To make up for the loss of revenue, doctors
and hospitals raised their prices for patients who did not have group health insurance (1). A lot
companies during the 19040s and 50s were able to offer their employees health care benefits, but for
some this was not an option. Many of Americans and small businesses during this time period could
not afford group health insurance. This meant that the government had to come up with new programs
to provide coverage for the uninsured people.
Improvements to Health Insurance
There was hope and a need for an insurance that would benefit the disabled, elderly and unemployed
American people. The Medicare and Medicaid act of 1965 did just that and provided health insurance
coverage to millions of Americans in need. There was a glimpse of light at the end of their dark tunnel

Gene to the beach the day before he had a test, and he thought Finny was trying to take away Gene s
only advantage, which was grades. According to Gene he states, going there risked expulsion, and
destroyed the studying I was going to do for an important test the next morning (Knowles 23). Gene

Civil Society And Globalization Essay
A globalized society creates an increasingly complicated set of forces and factors that bring people,
cultures, markets, and beliefs together. The improvement of technology, transportation, and
communication means that in the last century businesses, governments, and people are being drawn
into greater proximity with one another. As a result, the notion of civil society is slowly being
challenged because state borders are no longer containers of society , meaning that the state is no
longer a fixed unit of sovereign space (Agnew, 59). One of the key phenomenon of globalization is the
emergence of a global civil society. Global civil society refers to the vast assembly of groups
operating across borders and beyond the reach of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, global civil society and globality/globalization are two ideas that are inherently linked and
interdependent on the definitions of one another. Globalization is a key concept that engenders a set of
terms that embody it. Terms like interconnection, interdependence, liberalization, etc make us think of
a global situation that is marked by intense interaction and interdependence between country units
(Scholte, 237). Therefore, global civil society is what defines relations and social connections in a
globalized world where territorial location, territorial distance, and territorial borders do not have a
determining influence because the idea of place as territorially fixed is diminishing (Scholte, 237). An
important concept of civil society is its influence on civic activity on a domestic scale and the
influence that activity has on the organization of national politics. A large reason why the development
of global civil society occurred was in response to the changing political environment as a result of
globalization. According to Scholte, new geography has ended the state s effective monopoly on
governance that developed under conditions of territorialism (241). In other words, in the new post
sovereign world policies and administration does not adequately reflect citizenship and democracy
because these ideals no longer center around the state. That is why global civil society is the attempt
of citizens to

responsible and consistent background checking process prior to purchasing of a firearm. It also
prohibits the sale of firearms to those listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check
System (NICS). In 2010 there were 14 million who people submitted background checks to purchase

firearm purchase. Only 40% of firearm transactions occur through a licensed dealer hence an
estimated 6.6 million firearm purchases occur through a private sale, a gun show, or the internet with
no questions asked. Based upon these findings, there is a need for consistent and universal background
checking for all firearm sales and transfers, thus aiding in reducing the number of firearms to persons
that are at risk to harm themselves or others (Weinberger et al., 2015). The time is now to act for

Fedex Corp. vs United Parcel Service, Inc Case Study
I. Executive Summary
In this report we focus on the two main competitors in the package delivery industry: Federal Express
Corporation (FedEx) and United Parcel Service of America, Inc.
Studying FedEx, UPS and their competitive relationship in the decade from mid 80 s to mid 90 s gives
a good insight for the companies and industry s future. The two companies have different strategic
goals and are operating in the same industry but in different main markets: FedEx is working on
producing outstanding financial returns and focuses on the overnight air market while UPS is looking
for earning reasonable profit and its core business is the two day ground delivery. However, by 1981,
the two companies started to have a strong sense ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to that, FedEx came up with new services such as Saturday deliveries, delivery by 10:30
A.M., customer interfaces (drop boxes, drive through stations and express delivery stores) and same
day pickup of order. This is to distinguish its services. More on that, FedEx s philosophy of People
Service Profit was successful in insuring a union free workforce devoted to customer focus. In 1978,
deregulation in transportation helped FedEx to acquire larger planes therefore achieve lower cost.
Trade deregulation in Asia Pacific enabled FedEx to expand further. The acquisition of Gelco express,
Tiger International, and establishment of Airport Hub in Brussels expanded FedEx internationally.
Inflation and rising global competitiveness generated the need for just in time supply model, which
was the advantage supported by FedEx advanced technologies.
Some inhibiting factors were the competition that has heavily evolved as a number of competitors
(e.g. Emery, USPS, and UPS) entered the overnight delivery market as well as imitate other FedEx
new services. More on that, they were able to acquire similar IT solutions with lower costs and as a
result presented these services with cheaper prices. Moreover, in the attempt to expand internationally,
some acquisitions were over priced and revealed insufficient market studying. Europe low demand
that resulted in the shutting down of Brussels hub as well as Tiger international operations caused a

Roofing In Commercial Building
Why Metal Roofing Is A Good Choice For Your New Commercial Building
If you re planning to build a new commercial building, one of the things you ll need to consider is the
type of roof you ll have installed. Since your company deals with the public, you want a roof that has
an attractive appearance, but you also want one that requires little maintenance. Metal roofing is an
excellent option. Here are a few reasons why metal is a good choice in commercial roofing.
Good For Low Slopes
Metal roofing is suitable for all types of building architecture, even for buildings that have low slopes.
Asphalt, which is another popular roofing type, cannot be used on low slope roofs because water will
form puddles on the roof and flow under the shingles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insects and pests have no interest in chewing metal, so the panels won t deteriorate over time. Metal
roofing is also treated during the manufacturing process to be rust resistant. All these qualities
combine to make metal one of the most durable roofing materials you can choose for your building.
Metal Roofs Maintain Their Appearance
Metal roofing comes in a variety of colors, so you can choose a blue, green, or red roof for your
building if you want. The color is baked on the metal, so you don t have to worry about it peeling off,
and you ll never have to repaint the roof. Some types of paint even reflect UV rays, so they help
reduce energy costs for cooling your building. Plus, the UV protection helps prevent color fading over
the years. Once you install the metal roof, you probably won t have to do any maintenance or repairs
on it unless it is vandalized or an unusually strong storm rolls through your area.
A metal roof can give your building an upscale appearance so it is attractive to customers and clients.
Since it is available in different colors, it doesn t have an industrial look and it is much less labor
intensive than maintaining asphalt shingles. For these reasons, when it s time for you to choose your
commercial roofing, metal is worth

Hamlet As An Aristotelian Tragedy Essay
According to the Aristotelian view of tragedy, a tragic hero must fall through his or her own error. This
is typically called the quot;tragic flaw quot;, and can be applied to any characteristic that causes the
downfall the hero. Shakespeare s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark can be seen as an Aristotelian tragedy
and Hamlet as it s tragic hero. Hamlet s flaw, which in accordance with Aristotle s principles of
tragedy causes his demise, is his inability to act. This defect of Hamlet s character is displayed
throughout the play.
In the opening scenes of the play, the Ghost of old Hamlet reveals the truth about his death to his son,
and tells Hamlet to avenge the murder. Hamlet s first response is one that sounds of speedy action,

Further evidence of Hamlet s tragic flaw can be found in act III, scene 3. At this point, Hamlet is sure
of Claudius guilt, and has even declared that quot; Now could I drink hot blood and do such bitter
business as the day Would quake to look on. quot; (p. 99 lines 406 408) He comes to find King
Claudius alone, and recognizes it as an opportunity to act, but almost immediately talks himself out of
action on the bases that the King is praying, and will therefore go to heaven. He decides yet again to
delay avenging his father s murder, this time until he can kill the King while he is in a vile condition,
such as quot; When he is drunk asleep; or in his rage; Or in the incestuous pleasure of his bed. quot; (p.
103 lines 89 90) Hamlet has failed to act for so long that the Ghost soon comes back to remind him of
his duty.
In the end, we see that Hamlet s inability to act indeed causes his fall, and that his failure costs him not
only his life, but also his mother s. In the final scene, Hamlet duels with Laertes, who has conspired
with the King to kill Hamlet. In the King s attempt to kill Hamlet, he accidentally poisons the Queen.
Laertes delivers the fatal wound to Hamlet with a sword dipped in a deadly poison and it is only with
his final life breath that Hamlet finally kills the King. This does not mean that Hamlet has finally acted
he has only reacted to what is happening to him. If Hamlet had initially carried out his

Pros And Cons Of Search Engine Optimization
What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
In simple words, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be defined as the Do s and Don ts of Search
engines that if followed properly can improve the visibility of your website which will eventually lead
to better sales and promotion of your website, products and services. How?
When you launch a new website it is obvious that you will be among the millions. And among those
thousands that even Google doesn t know about their existence. And a week passes by with just one or
two visitors with zero contribution. It is obvious to get frustrated. But, it is more obvious to have a
question in your mind what other websites are doing so that they are ranking in the first page and what
you did that you got lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When compared with the off web marketing your expenses are very high because you need manpower
to promote and the cost of advertisements are also very high. But, with the growing web surfers
business marketing has become very economical because even the social bookmarking sites like:
www.facebook.com offers your advertisements low cost whereas the features they provide are
enormous. Similarly, it is easy because you can promote your business with a click and completely
reduces your manpower budget.
All of the above listed advantages are worthy only if you rank well in Google and other major search
engines. With poor placement and zero page rank no customers will know your existence in the
internet and there is no question of building goodwill.
Black Hat and White Hat SEO:
Black hat and white SEO is two different stream of SEO which are distinctly different from one
another. Black hat SEO represents those people who are engaged in unethical SEO practices like:
keyword stuffing, link farming and article spinning which can seriously hamper your website and your
online business. Google is found to banned and delist such websites who are engaged in such
practices.
Similarly, white hat SEO is the ethical way of competing in the search engine to gain desired page
rank following the do s and don ts of Google.

Why Rebecca Is Not Crazy
No words can describe what goes on in this girl s mind. Some call her deranged, crazy, but others say
she is smart and insane, but you really need to get into the mind of a deranged person. Before she met
her maker, Rebecca was a well rounded girl with a good head on her shoulders. She was smart,
intelligent even a little nerdy, but she had a sweetheart/and would do anything for those of family or
friends. Rebecca does have OCD so she is very picky on some things including everything has to be in
an order. If not she goes a little mad which is normal at least for the normal side of her mind. Rebecca
has what some would say split personality, but she wasn t always like that, in fact, this girl was school

What Is The Difference Between Carnevale And Ham
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the practical implications of David G. Carnevale and Kay Ham
s publication Going Beyond Human Resource Management Technique found in Chapter 11 of the
Handbook of Human Resource Management in Government. The core theme of Carnevale and Ham s
article is that human resource management (HRM) should be more than just an enforcing or technical
entity. While there remains a need for policies to be written, FMLA paperwork to be processed,
classification studies to be conducted, and a bureaucratic approach that upholds consistent execution
of HR principles, HRM should play a strategic role in an organization s development as well. HRM
that operates strategically focuses on qualitative data, and leaves room for interpretation, whereas
control oriented HR methods follow a scientific, rigid formula. HRM can be conducted in both
manners, and the two paradigms can work symbiotically (Carnevale Ham, 262 263). The human
resource department in Davidson County interacts with DavidsonWorks, a county department and the
local workforce development board, within two HRM paradigms identified by Carnevale and Ham
(265) as the bureaucratic side and the interpretive zone. The bureaucratic side of the HR house
assumes a more traditional HR function. In this role, the HR staff assists with workers compensation
claims, employee grievances, and other standard employee/employer relation issues. When
DavidsonWorks is actively hiring, the human

Critique Of Blindness In Jose Saramago s Blindness
Critique of Blindness Human nature is defined by emotional expression, the desire to learn,
individuality, and freedom of will. It enables people to make decisions on how they will conduct their
daily interactions and, therefore, dictates how society will be run. José Saramago s novel, Blindness,
tells the grim tale of a society devastated by a blindness epidemic known as the white evil. Without
their sight, people are no longer able to act in a civilized manner and become aggressive towards one
another as they struggle to survive. Saramago is able to redefine human nature as he takes a rather
pessimistic stance on the topic and decides to present it as no different from animalistic instinct.
Within the novel, people are first branded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saramago created an opportunity to explain what it is like to live in such a society. He states, This
must be what it means to be a ghost, being certain that life exists, because your four sense say so, yet
unable to see it. (Saramago, 242) This indicates that the city, is no longer composed of people, but
rather it is composed of beings whose only purpose is to survive. Such writing demonstrates why
many readers believe that Saramago intended to reveal how human nature directly interacts with
personal misfortune and social catastrophe. Towards the end of the novel, the doctor s wife notes, I
don t think we did go blind, I think we are blind, Blind but seeing, Blind people who can see, but do
not see. (Saramago, 326) This highlights Saramago s political and philosophical intentions. With that
being said, such intentions are developed throughout the entire novel. The story begins in the middle
of rush hour, in an unknown city, when the first blind man is struck suddenly by blindness while
waiting at a traffic light. Afterwards, he is rushed to the doctor s office where he is, consequently,
responsible for the spread of the white evil. It was there that the first blind man infected all those
around him, and, as a result, began to spread the epidemic and panic throughout the city. With a large
number of people going blind at an alarming rate and with no apparent cause, public health officials

Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence. Lastly, this summary report will provide a definition of what is
the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey and how it is developed.
Violence / Intimate Partner
Sex crime is one of the most underestimated crimes in America. Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence
are one of the most torturous and abusive crimes that goes unreported due to fear. Intimate partner
abuse is generally part of a pattern of abusive behavior and control rather than an isolated act of
physical aggression. Partner abuse can take a variety of forms, including physical assault such as
different forms of hitting, kicking, and beatings; emotional abuse, threats, financial abuse,
psychological abuse such as belittling, intimidation, and humiliation.
Some abuser would go as far as using their children as pawns in their abuse. Victims are continuously
forced to have sex. Most frequently controlled behaviors are aimed to isolate women from their family

Money Can Buy Happiness. .Most Of Us Are Familiar With
Money Can Buy Happiness Most of us are familiar with the old adage, Money can t buy happiness,
but few question the validity of the statement and its meaning. The debate: Can money buy you
happiness? is a spirited debate that has been argued since currency came about. There are those that
side with the popular saying and argue that money has no relation to an individual s happiness. Those
in support of the expression, money can t buy happiness, state the claim that true happiness stems
from internal feelings of self worth, where meaning in life is naturally created by doing good, acting
justly, and abiding by purity. Those that dispute the saying and believe the opposite have found a
shared commonality in several contributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it were true, that there is no link between money and happiness, why have economists studied this
connection for many years? In fact, in just the past 30 years, studies have shown there is indeed a
significant association between money and happiness. Over the course of these studies, it has been
determined that people in rich countries are far happier than people in poor countries (Maich 1). The
relationship between wealth and happiness has even been described to be, more complicated than the
romantic entanglements of any Desperate Housewife (Futrelle 1). It is true that the connection
between happiness and money is intricate, however, the link is measurable. Based on a study done by
the University of Michigan, it was found that, a higher income leads to a greater sense of well being,
which in turn, contributes to an individual s happiness greatly (Kurtzleben 1). While the opposition
argues there is no apparent link between wealth and happiness, it is clear to see that there is a very real
connection between the two. Additionally, wealth and happiness now appear to be far more dependent
on one another than we may have previously come to terms with.
It is ironic that the opposition, who argue there is no real relationship between wealth and happiness
are the very people arguing that, if there is any link between the two, money only contributes to
temporary happiness. Both of these arguments can be rebutted swiftly. It has already been

The Negative Effects of Tobacco
The Negative Effects of Tobacco The nicotine can be consumed by chewing tobacco apart from
smoking and sniffing .The article provides insight into the hazards of chewing tobacco . If you believe
that only smoking is injurious, certainly not. Any form of nicotine consumption is injurious. Tobacco

However, the American Heart Association (AHA) reports that cigarette smoking is responsible for
440,000 deaths each year. MedlinePlus reports that both cigarettes (smoking tobacco) and chewing
(smokeless) tobacco are bad for your health, and cause multiple and often fatal health problems.
Cardiovascular Disease
One negative effect that tobacco and nicotine addiction has on the health of the body is cardiovascular
disease. AHA reports that cigarette smokers are two to three times more likely to develop
cardiovascular disease than people who do not smoke. Also according to AHA, of the 440,000 deaths
each year caused by cigarette smoking, 135,000 are due to smoking related cardiovascular diseases.
Nicotine in tobacco products causes an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, and a narrowing of
the arteries. Carbon monoxide that is inhaled when tobacco is smoked decreases the amount of oxygen
carried by the blood to feed the body s tissues. The AHA reports that carbon monoxide and nicotine
damages the artery walls, which leads to the deposition of fat and narrowing of arteries, which further
increases blood pressure. Damaged vessels and high blood pressure are all risk factors for heart
failure. Furthermore, smoking tobacco causes the blood to clot more easily, which may cause a heart
attack or stroke. see survivor stories

Analyzing The Stag s Irony In The Funeral Of The Lioness
Another fable that deals with the relationship between classes is, The Funeral of the Lioness , who s
focus is the interactions between king and subordinate. Having his queen recently passed away, the
king held a funeral for the Lioness for all to attend. All are overcome with grief and wept over the
death of the lioness, except the Stag who stand emotionless. Before the king punishes the stag for
insolence, the stag replies that the queen would approve of his behavior and that she is in a better
place; so instead of punishment, the Stag is rewarded for his noble words. Irony is a strong element in
this fable. First off, it is ironic that the Stag says such kind things about the queen, such as calling her
immortal , stating that she is now Mingling among the gods and with the saints . ... Show more content

He should be filled with happiness that the Lioness got the justice he feels that she deserves, yet
instead of laughing as the animals claim (33) he favorably deifies the queen. Realistically, the Stag
dose not like the queen, but his dose not lash out in preference to a subtle mockery. As stated, the Stag
has no reason to mourn the loss of the murderer of his family, but rather that offend the king directly
and be executed, he utilizes sarcasm to express his distain. Furthermore, the king s readily acceptance
of false flattery is another form of irony that comments on the noble s eagerness to hear fond words be
spoken about them. One without a large ego could have been capable of detecting the fake sincerity
the Stag expresses, but because the king is accustomed to those around him singing his praises he
takes the Stag s words at face value. The other irony is the rewarding of the Stag for the very same
actions that he was about to be killed

The Working Poor Essay
American factories can comprise of about up to 1000 workers. If American factories are shut down
and moved to other countries, this takes many American people out of work. Companies are now also
importing jobs. This is where employers hire people such as immigrants to work less than minimum
wage. For that reason, many Americans are stuck with the other minimum wage, and low paying jobs
that barely get them through life. Because of this, many Americans are working full time jobs that are
below the Federal poverty line. These types of people are often called the working poor . Due to this
the working poor have to run to welfare. This affects all Americans because taxpayers are the ones
paying for welfare. The more jobs that are taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These immigrates do not have any problems with there wages because they made little or less in their
home country. In the past decade, American jobs screamed out of the United States at an ever
accelerating rate of speed, says Wooldridge, While American workers stood in unemployment lines,
major corporations insourced, outsourced and offshored jobs to Third World countries. Why? They
could obtain labor for $1.00 an hour and sometimes less. Capitalism knows no loyalty to man, beast or
country. One example of a corporation exercising this scheme is Bank of America. This company cut
5,000 jobs, and sent 1,250 of them to India. The company has also announced that they would cut
12,000 in the next two years or so. General Electric has also sent jobs to India. The company has sent
about 12,000 jobs to India.
Foreign workers cost less. Sometimes it costs a lot to move jobs overseas for expenses like legal fees,
training and security. But wages in many foreign countries are so much lower than wages here that the
move usually pays for itself. The average computer programmer in Northern Virginia, for example,
makes more than $50,000 a year. Compare that to a typical programmer in India, who earns less than
$10,000 for the same work. The same is true for lots of different jobs in many different countries.

Marketing Research And Sustainable Management Practice
In such a volatile and complex industry as tourism, marketing research, an integral part of marketing
planning process, plays a crucial role in shaping a framework that guides Destination Management
Organisations (DMOs) decisions, be it public or private. At operational level, market intelligence
would help DMOs gain market insights, bridge the gap between tourism products and visitors and
potentially explore new markets. Without market data, goal and objectives would be unrealistic thus
resulting in inefficient marketing programmes. The report discusses attempts to promote San Juan
Islands an archipelago part of the U.S. state of Washington, through their marketing plan. Drawing on
the marketing process proposed by Middleton et al. (2009) and relevant literatures, what emerges from
the plan is the lack of market data, lack of measurable objectives and lack of sustainable management
practice. As a result, the report recommends a comprehensive marketing research and sustainable
management practice.

Compare And Contrast Mid Atlantic New England Colonies
The thirteen English colonies can be divided into four geographic sections/ regions. The two sections I
would be making a comparison and contrast about are the Southern colonies and Mid Atlantic
colonies. I would also be making a comparison and contrast of the development of the regions of
Chesapeake and New England, making a summary of each regions European history, the reasons for
their founding, religion, pattern of settlement, their unique characteristics, the characteristics both
region have in common, and how they differ.
The comparison between the Southern colonies and Mid Atlantic colonies is that it was socially
acceptable for males to go to college and learn about the Bible. In contrast between the Southern

Physical and cultural differences separated these two regions. Where religion is a perfect or part of the
daily life of New England, Tobacco and money had a great impact and dominated the Chesapeake.
The Puritans were also followers of the religious scholar, John Calvin, who believed in the concept of
predestination, the idea that God had Preordained man s destiny. Those who were the elect were so
chosen prior to birth and were destined for salvation. The Puritans also believed that family is very
important. They had political differences that were due to who governs the colony. New England had a
government association more with religion matter than Chesapeake government. While Virginia and
Maryland were settled for economic reasons, the Massachusetts Bay colony was settled by two groups
seeking religious freedom: The Pilgrims who settled at Plymouth Plantation and the Puritans who
settled the rest of the colony. New England s region includes the Massachusetts Bay colony, the
Plymouth colony, the New Hampshire colony, the Maine colony, Connecticut colony, and Rhode
Island colony. Massachusetts colony was governed as a theocracy government and placed great
importance on religious matters. For example, only church members had the authority to vote or hold
office positions. And anyone who held office position was required to be in attendance at services.
Geographically, there was a harsh climate in the Chesapeake region which gave room for the various
diseases like typhoid and malaria but the New England were enjoying a great and awesome cool
temperature weather with clean water which helped the people and kept them away from diseases that
could kill. Having a great and healthy environment is very important to families and New England
enjoyed that compared to the Chesapeake s. In Chesapeake, both Virginia and Maryland engaged in a

New Jobs, Lifestyle, And A Sense Of Independence
New jobs, lifestyle, and a sense of independence began in the 1990s. Friends, the favored comedic
television series, portrayed this American culture. This sitcom included ten seasons, which aired from
1994 to 2004 (Wikipedia.org). The setting was in Manhattan, New York, and included the Central
Perk coffee house. It revealed the lives of six young adults: Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox
(Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David
Schwimmer (Ross), who depicted a dysfunctional family. Each character has their unique personality,
which united them. This series revealed how life was lived to those in their mid twenties to early
thirties and how to overcome circumstances in this time period, which was the foundation of the show
s popularity. In the episode, The Last One, these loyal friends exemplified honesty, growth, a family
unit with the recollection of cherished memories through the use of humor and pathos. Here is a quick
summary of this episode. The Last One, commenced with Phoebe and Chandler taking Erica to the
hospital to give birth to twins; Monica and Chandler adopt them and name the babies Erica and Jack.
Joey then wants to give Monica and Chandler a house warming gift of a chick and duckling but loses
them. With the help of Chandler, they find them in their pool table, but only Monica is able to break
the table and save the birds. Through all incidents, Ross, with encouragement from Phoebe, ultimately

The History of the Large, Agrarian Country of Romania
Romania is a large agrarian country. Its long history is one of being a rich agricultural country, with its
people deeply connected to the land. Romanian farmers have weathered many crises and changes over
the centuries, but their connection to the land has always remained strong. Now, they find themselves
once again at a crossroad. Agriculture today is plagued by many problems: the deep scars left by the
communist regime, the current agro politics, the lack of quality development and the poverty in the
Romanian countryside are the main issues effecting Romanian agriculture growth and development.
During the communist regime, Romanian farmers lost their rights over their lands. The
collectivization of Romanian agricultural lands led to a huge loss for the rural community and to the
nation s agricultural traditions. Large numbers of peasants were moved from the countryside to cities
never to work the land again, never to pass on the knowledge and skills to their children. To these days
the word cooperative has a negative connotation for the rural society within Romania.
Toward the end of 1989, the communist regime came to an end. However the agricultural system
remained unchanged. Most of the large state farm cooperatives were privatized and ended up being
bought by the same people that used to own and operate them.
The same paradox continues today. The current Romanian agricultural politics is directly supporting
the large industrial farms that benefit from the

Citizenship Of The United States
Over a century ago, the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution was implemented to grant
citizenship to individuals born within the country. This was the first time that it was defined what it
means to be a citizen in the U.S. While the amendment was created to address the citizenship of
slaves, it is currently under speculation in regards to granting U.S. citizenship to children born to
undocumented immigrants (Gans, 2012). While there have been many arguments to place restrictions
or eradicate granting children of undocumented immigrants U.S. citizenship, the constitutional right
remains the same: if you are born on U.S. land, you are a citizen (Angelo, 2013). This paper argues
that the birthright citizenship of U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants should continue to
be granted based on the underlying principles of the 14th Amendment and the possible implications of
ending birthright citizenship. First, this paper describes birthright citizenship and the 14th
Amendment, as well as its use in several Supreme Court cases that are significant to this issue. Then,
various implications of eradicating birthright citizenship are discussed. Before discussing the possible
consequences of eradicating birthright citizenship, it is imperative to discuss the history and principles
underlying it. Birthright Citizenship in America and the Fourteenth Amendment Birthright citizenship
is a principle stating that people born within the country should be recognized as U.S.

Urban Disparities

comes to seeking health care services in regard to cancer diagnoses, treatment, and prevention. As the
Capitman et al. (n.d.) stated economic, political and cultural exclusion have been attributed to ethnic

As Capitman et al. (n.d.) illustrates with cancer disparities in racial/ethnic groups, induvial and
cultural factors influence how individuals participate in disease prevention and self care activities.
Other factors include availability of health care professionals, mal distribution of health care
resources, and accessibility to social services (Capitman et al. n.d.). Looking at social and physical
environments in general can tell you a lot about how big a difference we see in health disparities in
both urban and rural areas. As noted by Unite for Sight, urban environments tend to be more highly
diverse socioeconomic status with more exposure to health related risk (chronic diseases) while rural
dwellers are more significantly poorer and poor health behaviors (smoking etc.). Furthermore, rural
areas have a higher proportion of uninsured and individually insured residents with limited access to
health care facilities. In urban areas even if with high prevalence of individuals without health
insurance or citizenship they deal with a system where individuals have access to preventive and
routine health care while the other portion of the populations utilize safety net emergency room care
(as cited Unite for Sight n.d.). In general, we see in urban and rural health that there is a difference
between health care access, usage, geographic distribution of providers and

Katherine Anne Porter s most brilliant technical accomplishment, the novel The Jilting of Granny Weatherall . It was first published in a magazine in February, 1929. The afterwards collected in Porter s first published book, Flowering Judas. The story involves a dying woman s memory of being left at the altar on her wedding day and her current fear of being jilted in a similar manner by God. It gives a portrait of an eighty year old granny on her death bed; it gives an exploration of the human mind as it struggles to come to terms with loss and mortality. In her essay The Eye of the Story, fellow southern writer and critic Eudora Welty observed that Most good stories are about the interior of our lives, but Katherine Anne Porter s stories take place there; they surface only at her choosing. ( ) The Jilting of Granny Weatherall is certainly one of these interior stories. The Jilting of Granny Weatherall is told by a third person narrator, readers are drawn into the mind of Ellen Weatherall (granny) and what takes place in her life through her memories. (Martor, 1:116) Readers laugh along with her, for example, When she teases the doctor about his youth. • 4. George Lucas New Wave During the 1960s and 1970s many nations around the world had a film revolution where young filmmakers were making new and different types of movies, they called this movement a New Wave. Although Hollywood was was the film capital of the world, it also went through a movement where young directors were taking control of their films over the production studios, the films were reaching to younger audiences, and the films were generally more independent and had to be cheap. The reason for this new wave movement was because old Hollywood was losing money and it needed a new way of making films, it needed to be shaken up. George Lucas was one of these directors, being 29 at the time of directing his second film American Graffiti. Lucas was challenged by Francis Ford Coppola to produce a script that would appeal to mainstream audiences(Hearn). Lucas, accepting the challenge, based the script of the film off of his 1960s teen years in Modesto, California. Lucas felt his experience with picking up girls in the 60s would induce nostalgia into the similarly aged moviegoers at the time. The movie was aimed toward people from ages 20 to 30 and Lucas based each of the four main male characters on different points in his life. Lucas felt compelled to document the whole experience and what my generation used as a way of meeting girls(Hearn). Lucas being a new young director had trouble pitching the idea to financiers and distributors, where he was turned down by every studio except for Universal Pictures. The lack of financiers forced Lucas to create his own production company, Lucasfilms Ltd and partner up with Francis Ford Coppola s production company in order for the film to get enough money to be made. For this reason, the movie also had to be cheap, which was another characteristic of general new wave cinema. The film had a production budget of $777,000, however, the movie was an immense success earning over $140,000,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The American Of The United States The United States is one of the largest countries that are made up of individuals from diverse origins and cultures. In addition, most foreigners from the other parts of the world migrated to the U.S, or become American citizens under different circumstances, especially during the 18th, 19th and the 20th centuries. Black Americans for example, arose in the American culture as a result of the numerous Africans who were being sold to the whites in order for them to work in the cotton and pyrethrum plantations. Mexican Americans arose as a result of the Mexican American war which occurred during the 1830s and 1840s, where Mexico conceded defeat and surrendered part of its territory to the United States. After the end of this war, the Mexicans who were residing in the surrendered Mexican land territory were transferred to the U.S, and most of them were located in California and the present day New Mexico (Kos 2011). Just like the African Americans and the other cultures that were being considered inferior by the white Americans, the Mexican Americans started experiencing oppression in various ways including social and economic oppression, soon after their migration to the U.S. and which continues to this day, this country of freedom needs to be legitimately free not just white native born Americans, but everyone that calls the United States home and the Mexican immigrants that settle in the southwest deserve the freedoms this country provides, and not be economically oppressed ... With the guarantee of payment the first provider health care program was born. It was called Blue Shield. Blue Shield s role was to negotiate with doctors and hospitals for reduced prices in exchange for a high volume of customers and guaranteed payment. To make up for the loss of revenue, doctors and hospitals raised their prices for patients who did not have group health insurance (1). A lot companies during the 19040s and 50s were able to offer their employees health care benefits, but for some this was not an option. Many of Americans and small businesses during this time period could not afford group health insurance. This meant that the government had to come up with new programs to provide coverage for the uninsured people. Improvements to Health Insurance There was hope and a need for an insurance that would benefit the disabled, elderly and unemployed American people. The Medicare and Medicaid act of 1965 did just that and provided health insurance coverage to millions of Americans in need. The improvement of technology, transportation, and communication means that in the last century businesses, governments, and people are being drawn into greater proximity with one another. As a result, the notion of civil society is slowly being challenged because state borders are no longer containers of society , meaning that the state is no longer a fixed unit of sovereign space (Agnew, 59). One of the key phenomenon of globalization is the emergence of a global civil society. Global civil society refers to the vast assembly of groups operating across borders and beyond the reach of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, global civil society and globality/globalization are two ideas that are inherently linked and interdependent on the definitions of one another. Globalization is a key concept that engenders a set of terms that embody it. Terms like interconnection, interdependence, liberalization, etc make us think of a global situation that is marked by intense interaction and interdependence between country units (Scholte, 237). Therefore, global civil society is what defines relations and social connections in a globalized world where territorial location, territorial distance, and territorial borders do not have a determining influence because the idea of place as territorially fixed is diminishing (Scholte, 237). An important concept of civil society is its influence on civic activity on a domestic scale and the influence that activity has on the organization of national politics. A large reason why the development of global civil society occurred was in response to the changing political environment as a result of globalization. According to Scholte, new geography has ended the state s effective monopoly on governance that developed under conditions of territorialism (241). In other words, in the new post sovereign world policies and administration does not adequately reflect citizenship and democracy because these ideals no longer center around the state. That is why global civil society is the attempt of citizens to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carnevale and Kay Ham s publication Going Beyond Human Resource Management Technique found in Chapter 11 of the Handbook of Human Resource Management in Government. The core theme of Carnevale and Ham s article is that human resource management (HRM) should be more than just an enforcing or technical entity. While there remains a need for policies to be written, FMLA paperwork to be processed, classification studies to be conducted, and a bureaucratic approach that upholds consistent execution of HR principles, HRM should play a strategic role in an organization s development as well. HRM that operates strategically focuses on qualitative data, and leaves room for interpretation, whereas control oriented HR methods follow a scientific, rigid formula. HRM can be conducted in both manners, and the two paradigms can work symbiotically (Carnevale Ham, 262 263). The human resource department in Davidson County interacts with DavidsonWorks, a county department and the local workforce development board, within two HRM paradigms identified by Carnevale and Ham (265) as the bureaucratic side and the interpretive zone. The bureaucratic side of the HR house assumes a more traditional HR function. In this role, the HR staff assists with workers compensation claims, employee grievances, and other standard employee/employer relation issues. When DavidsonWorks is actively hiring, the human ... • 31. The History of the Large, Agrarian Country of Romania Romania is a large agrarian country. Its long history is one of being a rich agricultural country, with its people deeply connected to the land. Romanian farmers have weathered many crises and changes over the centuries, but their connection to the land has always remained strong. Now, they find themselves once again at a crossroad. Agriculture today is plagued by many problems: the deep scars left by the communist regime, the current agro politics, the lack of quality development and the poverty in the Romanian countryside are the main issues effecting Romanian agriculture growth and development. During the communist regime, Romanian farmers lost their rights over their lands. The collectivization of Romanian agricultural lands led to a huge loss for the rural community and to the nation s agricultural traditions. Large numbers of peasants were moved from the countryside to cities never to work the land again, never to pass on the knowledge and skills to their children. To these days the word cooperative has a negative connotation for the rural society within Romania. Toward the end of 1989, the communist regime came to an end. However the agricultural system remained unchanged. Most of the large state farm cooperatives were privatized and ended up being bought by the same people that used to own and operate them. The same paradox continues today. The current Romanian agricultural politics is directly supporting the large industrial farms that benefit from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Citizenship Of The United States Over a century ago, the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution was implemented to grant citizenship to individuals born within the country. This was the first time that it was defined what it means to be a citizen in the U.S. While the amendment was created to address the citizenship of slaves, it is currently under speculation in regards to granting U.S. citizenship to children born to undocumented immigrants (Gans, 2012). While there have been many arguments to place restrictions or eradicate granting children of undocumented immigrants U.S. citizenship, the constitutional right remains the same: if you are born on U.S. land, you are a citizen (Angelo, 2013). This paper argues that the birthright citizenship of U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants should continue to be granted based on the underlying principles of the 14th Amendment and the possible implications of ending birthright citizenship. First, this paper describes birthright citizenship and the 14th Amendment, as well as its use in several Supreme Court cases that are significant to this issue. Then, various implications of eradicating birthright citizenship are discussed. Before discussing the possible consequences of eradicating birthright citizenship, it is imperative to discuss the history and principles underlying it. Birthright Citizenship in America and the Fourteenth Amendment Birthright citizenship is a principle stating that people born within the country should be recognized as U.S. ... • 33. Urban Disparities One of the reading that illustrates the concept of the different disparities found in rural and urban areas is the findings of Capitman et al. (n.d.) in its residents. The chapter, named Racial/Ethnic Caner Disparities: Conceptual Frameworks, presents the different barriers racial/ethnicities face when it comes to seeking health care services in regard to cancer diagnoses, treatment, and prevention. As the Capitman et al. (n.d.) stated economic, political and cultural exclusion have been attributed to ethnic and social class differences in accessing good quality health care and services. According to Unite For Sight (n.d.), urban areas are likely to face high prevalence of individuals without health insurance in relation to how much socioeconomic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Capitman et al. (n.d.) illustrates with cancer disparities in racial/ethnic groups, induvial and cultural factors influence how individuals participate in disease prevention and self care activities. Other factors include availability of health care professionals, mal distribution of health care resources, and accessibility to social services (Capitman et al. n.d.). Looking at social and physical environments in general can tell you a lot about how big a difference we see in health disparities in both urban and rural areas. As noted by Unite for Sight, urban environments tend to be more highly diverse socioeconomic status with more exposure to health related risk (chronic diseases) while rural dwellers are more significantly poorer and poor health behaviors (smoking etc.). Furthermore, rural areas have a higher proportion of uninsured and individually insured residents with limited access to health care facilities. In urban areas even if with high prevalence of individuals without health insurance or citizenship they deal with a system where individuals have access to preventive and routine health care while the other portion of the populations utilize safety net emergency room care (as cited Unite for Sight n.d.). In general, we see in urban and rural health that there is a difference between health care access, usage, geographic distribution of providers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Project Part 3 Thank you for providing the Land use Development/Intergovernmental Review/Community and Regional Planning (LD/IGR) the opportunity to review and comment on the Draft Project Report on Interstate Route 10 (I 10). The purpose of the Project is to improve traffic operations on the I 10 freeway in San Bernardino County to reduce congestion, increase throughput, and enhance trip reliability for the planning design year of 2045. We offer the following recommendations and comments on the Draft Project Report: 1. Reliability in transportation is a major strategy in the California Department of Transportation s (Department) Strategic Management Plan where it is described as consistent travel time. Alternatives 2 and 3 propose to reduce volume to capacity ratios along the corridor and improve travel time within the corridor compared to the No Build condition. However, even after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best practices to reduce accidences and enhance safety along the I 10 corridor is to reduce the amount of existing geometric features along the freeway and at the interchanges that do not meet the Department s Highway Design Manuel Geometric Standards: Sections 5.a.2.3 Alternative 2 Nonstandard Design Features and 5.a.3.3 Alternative 3 Nonstandard Design Features provide several nonstandard mandatory and advisory design features that are proposed for the project under Alternatives 2 and 3. The nonstandard geometric standards are not consistent with the Department s Strategic Management Plan Safety and Health goal. An incident/emergency stop would cause the closure of a general purpose and current/proposed HOV/express lanes, due to geometrically nonstandard shoulders. The lane and shoulder width reduction to less than the standard width to compensate for the proposed HOV and/or express lane alternatives should be limited. It is highly recommended the acquisition of additional right of way to accommodate the shoulder widening and eliminate the geometric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
