Fourth Of July Analysis
Wow, wow, wow! After arriving on the island, I could not contain my excitement. I m actually here! I
sprinted towards the statue to get a better look and Alfred was following behind me telling me to wait
up. After the conversation, Alfred said he was celebrating his birthday by himself. He had a sad look
when I asked him about celebrating with his friends and family so I guess he really was celebrating
alone. Poor guy and he s a cheerful one too. Feeling sorry for him I offered him to tag along with me
on my Fourth of July expedition to the statue. He objected it at first because he doesn t want to get in
my way, but as I was travelling alone, I change his mind. Really, dudette! I won t get in your way? No,
of course not. Besides, I m traveling by myself, so a company would be nice and it s your special day
too so I ll celebrate it with you So here s me and Alfred s Fourth of July slash birthday expedition to

Telepathy In Stephen King

Writing 121 2017 2018
Telepathy at its Finest
Stephen King, a world renowned author, has had much success in the genres of horror, science fiction
and suspense. Due to his success, King decided to share some of his tricks of the trade in order to help
aspiring authors with his book On Writing. Before completing this book, writing to me was just a pain.
I remember this one quote that said, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all
others: read a lot and write a lot (King 145). I proceed to think, well shoot, I don t do either of those
things. No wonder I don t like writing and I m not very good at it. Then as I continued through the
book, I thought back to the part where King described writing as a form of telepathy, and it changed
my whole perspective. Art has always been a way to express yourself and share ideas in my mind. The
idea of writing doing that, and in such a direct way, kind of blew my mind. The more I thought about
it, the more it made sense to me. The writer and the reader were connected through time and space
with these shared thoughts. The best example of this is the rabbit in the cage: The most interesting
thing here isn t even the carrot munching rabbit in the cage, but the number on it s back. . .This is what
we re both looking at, and we all see it. . .We re not even in the same year together, let alone the same
room . . . except we are together (King 106). The freedom that is opened up to the reader when

The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes Essay
The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes
The Old Gringo is a fiction novel written by one of Latin America s most renowned and eloquent
authors, Carlos Fuentes. Filled with war, adventure, love and more, this novel takes you back to the
Mexican revolution fought in 1912. This contemporary fiction is based on many themes found and
experienced by the main characters in this novel. The relationship between Mexico and the United
States, the drive to find one s true self and the different ways two men need a woman are only a few
themes contained in this story. The question: Is he Ambrose Bierce or just an old gringo, is one that I
had to answer while reading this book. We all have different opinions, but it is a question that all ask
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting also influenced one of the major themes of the story, the historical relationship between
the United States and Mexico. As you can see, the setting of this novel was very important to
everything included in this story.
The main characters in this story are Harriet Winslow, the old gringo, and Tomas Arroyo. Of the
Three, Harriet learns the most as she starts her new life as governess across the frontier. She is a
dynamic character that changes in the story because of the things that happen around her. Other
characters include Manslavo, La Garduna, Frutos Garcia, La Luna and more. Carlos Fuentes did a
very good job of describing these characters and paints a picture, like all great authors, of the
characters portrayed in their novels.
Most of the story revolves, however, not around the old gringo but the young gringa, Harriet Winslow.
Harriet Winslow is a Yankee spinster, who decides one day in 1912 to break loose from her humdrum
life by taking a job as governess in Mexico. Once she arrives, she is immediately caught in the middle
of the Mexican revolution. Here, she meets the general, Tomas Arroyo, and the American author, the
old gringo. Harriet is described as a, quick, elegant, and a beautiful woman of thirty. ; In a discussion
with Miss Harriet and the old gringo, we learn that her father disappeared in the Spanish American
War somewhere in Cuba.

St. Clement s Letter
The Primacy of Peter continued into the Age of Martyrs particularly in Peter s third successor and the
fourth pope, St. Clement. Firstly, in Clement s letter, he sternly commands the people to repent, just as
Peter did. St. Clement commands Do ye, therefore, that have laid the foundation of the sedition submit
yourselves to the presbyters, and be chastised to repentance, bending the knees of your hearts. (St.
Clement s Letter to Corinth 57:1), alike how Peter preaches at Pentecost and ends his speech saying
Repent ...every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. (Acts 2:38).
They tell the people to be sorry for their sins.
Secondly, they both tell the people to obey Jesus, otherwise they will be outcasted

Smoke Signals Film Techniques
Throughout the movie Smoke Signals, there are many themes that are portrayed as the story
progresses. Two central ideals that we see in the movie are the journey to forgiveness and defining
fatherhood. In the beginning of the film, we witness Arnold (Victor s father) saving Thomas from a
burning house, but when thanked by Thomas grandmother he says I didn t mean to. his response
becomes self explanatory by the end of the film. Unfortunately, Thomas parents do not escape the
house fire and succumb to the flames. Although Thomas parents passed away, he held some sort of
father figure through Arnold and motherly figure through his grandmother who solely raised him.
Victor had his father as a young boy, but lost his father through abandonment. ... Show more content

Victor, built a hatred for his father because he left him and his mother broken. Arnold was portrayed as
a stereotypical drunk, dead beat dad that left his family to fend for themselves. Throughout the movie
there are many flashbacks that show a lot of foreshadowing leading to Arnold s absence. In one of the
flashbacks, Arnold is in the truck with Victor and says to him during a drunken rant ...one day I ll
make myself disappear. However, there are a handful of precious memories that Victor held with his
father. I believe that this is what led Victor on his journey to find the truth as to why his father left him
and his mother. The moment that Victor finds out the truth about the house fire many years ago, his
hatred begins to whither and he sees his father in a new yet complicated light. Learning the truth
eventually frees him from his rage towards his father and irritation towards Thomas; he may feel as
though Thomas is a victim of his father s selfish actions. Towards the end of the film, there was a
scene that Victor took his father s ashes and shared them with

important to recognize that, to measure the customer satisfaction at a particular point of time as if it
were static, satisfaction is a dynamic, moving target that may evolve over the time, influenced by a
variety of factors. Particularly when product usage or the service experience takes place over the time,
satisfaction may be highly variable depending on which point the usage or experience cycle is focused

U.s. Maritime Strategic Operations
Introduction For over 60 years the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) in Japan has served as a
cornerstone for executing U.S. Maritime Strategies in Asia. From the strategies of Deterrence, Power
Projection, and Crisis Response, to the strategies of Littoral Operations and
Engagement, the FDNF has been a key contributor to these missions.
Several commands in the United States Navy operate in overseas outside of Continental United States
(CONUS). These are the different platforms of naval ships such as: Destroyers (DDG), Mine Counter
Measure (MCM), Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), landing Platform Dock (LPD), Dock Landing
Ship (LSD), Military Sealift Command (MSC), Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit, Undersea

This was accomplished during a single day during underway in FDNF operation. All of this was done
on time, professionally and most importantly safely without a single personnel or equipment casualty.
FDNF Operational Requirements
The U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest U.S. numbered fleet (Figure 1), with 60 70 ships, 200 300 aircraft and
about 40,000 Sailors and Marines operating in the region on a typical day (Carr, 2013). There are
more than 48 million square miles (more than 124 million square kilometers) in the 7th Fleet s Area of
Responsibility (AOR). It covers the Kuril Islands in the north to the Antarctic in the south, and from
the International Date Line to the 68th meridian east, which runs down from the India Pakistan border.
It has 36 maritime countries and the world s five largest foreign armed forces in the 7th AOR (i.e.,
Russia, India, North Korea, People s Republic of China, and Republic of Korea). Five of the seven
U.S. Mutual Defense Treaties are with countries in the area of Republic of the Philippines, Republic of
Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Thailand (C7F, 2015).
The FDNF offers two independent striking forces; the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) battle group and

Campus Molds Advantages And Disadvantages
Moving in as a freshman is great. You are excited, everyone helps you move in, and it goes by fast.
Moving out after freshman year is another story. The move out process is tiring, no one helps you, and
it takes forever. The young men who started Campus Crates felt these same feelings for move in and
move out of college. Their solution to the problem was creating a moving and storage company that
caters to college students. Campus Crates was started by two students both named Ryan after their
freshman year of college at Baylor University. The company became an LLC in 2016 and started
moving students that summer (Leland, 2016). Campus Crates goal is to make the lives of parents and
students easier by relieving the inconvenience and expense of moving to and from college. Campus
Crates is an on demand storage service that only requires you to register, pay, schedule a time for
boxes to be dropped off, and then pack the boxes at your own convenience. Then they will pick up
your belongings, store it in a secure facility, and then return your belongings to your new residence
(Mycampuscrates.com, 2017). Although Campus Crates was established in 2016, their concept has
proven to be successful.
Strengths
There are no other companies near the Baylor area that offer what Campus Crates offers. This fact
allows Campus Crates to have a competitive advantage over other storage companies. Campus Crates
is the only company that delivers packing supplies, picks up packed boxes, stores boxes

Difficult Intravenus Access Essay
Difficult intra venous access is cauterized as multiple attempts and/or the prediction of special veins
that are easier to access and maintain peripheral venous access. Predictive issues for difficult IV
access include obesity, history of IV drug use, and edema. Factors associated with difficult IV access
in adult include chemotherapy, multiple prior hospitalization, and diabetes. [1] it is noted that
intravenous cannulation that s done by more experienced emergency medical staff was associated with
higher success rate. IV cannulas with smaller gates were commonly associated with failure
cannulation. This result was concluded to be due to the choice of person applying IV cannulation, and
the predicted difficulties of insertion. [2] Intravenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cannula insertion. Success rate and time to apply intra venous cannula is mandatory to obtain the best

experienced emergency nurse. Central venous catheterization (CVC) is an alternative route for
cannulation in patients with difficult intra venous access. CVC provides a fast effective intra venous

Censorship In China
The Internet has quickly become a worldwide resource for news, current affairs and freedom of
speech, but in many places across the world, censorship restricts this freedom and access. Different
governments all have different approaches regarding censorship, and these methods have both a
positive and a negative impact on society. Censorship can also be used to protect people, as it can
prevent people from seeing explicit content or being exposed to certain types of media at a young age.
Censorship is used by governments around the world to restrict the content is available to their

As of June 1st 2013, Singapore updated their internet censorship laws to include new, stricter
regulations regarding the online news world (C, 2013). Online censorship is not a new idea in
Singapore. It was first discussed by the government in 1991, and has been an ongoing debate ever
since (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). The thought behind censorship in Singapore stem from the idea that
media can have negative effects on their consumers, it is therefore wiser to err on the side of caution
through censorship (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). Official regulations began in July 1996 (Efa.org.au,
2002), and there has been many revisions since then. In 2002, the Singapore Broadcasting Authority
stated that Users in Singapore...have access to all material available on the Internet, with the exception
of a few high impact illegal websites (Efa.org.au, 2002), but as of 2015, blocked websites are those
that contain content that the community regards as offensive or harmful to Singapore s racial and
religious harmony, or against national interest including sites that promote or contain pornography,
remote gambling and illegal activity (Mda.gov.sg, 2015). For the most part, this censorship is helpful
to society, as it ensures that internet users will have a positive online

Reflection Of Personal Branding
After speaking with Christina on the phone, I learned how she experienced the summer Management
program during her undergrad as an English major at WFU. She was an English major and did not
know specifically what she wanted to do immediately after graduation. After applying to a couple
jobs, she received feedback from a stranger who happened to be a fellow WFU alum. This individual
did not think Christina would get a job at her company, but offered to spread her resume around.
Christina was extremely grateful for the kindness the other lady gave her, and she eventually landed a
role as part of a production company for her first job. Christina learned of her current employer,
Compass Professional Health Services, through a roommate who was a former employee of the
company. She encouraged Christina to apply for the open positions, which she later did via
Handshake. Hearing about her experience during the application and interview cycle(s) were great for
me to see how the job market functions for this particular company. One of the things that caught my
attention after Christina was offered and accepted a position at Compass was the training time prior to
officially starting. The amount of preparation before, and then observing and learning from others at
work was a great example for me to listen and visualize while thinking of the points discussed in
Personal Branding. A point during our practice reviewing resumes was that companies are particular

One of the most beautiful places in the world is the country of Thailand. While one could conceivably

how much money would be required to be saved in a 10 percent annual interest mutual fund for each

The Failure of the Progressive Movement
Although the Progressive Era managed to solve much of the backwater left over from
Industrialization, it failed in regards to discrimination. America would have to wait decades later for
the issue of civil equality to truly be addressed. Due to the apathy of the politicians during that time,
the desperate need for a scapegoat, and the hypocrisy people displayed when confronted with the
topic, the movement that was intended to achieve progress in society completely forgot about equality.
Possibly a result of the lingering sentiments of racism from the time of slavery, politicians remained
unwilling to confront the idea of discrimination. Hopeful candidates running for any public office had
to appease as many voters as possible, and this often meant not angering those who still held onto
racist ideologies. One can clearly see Taft attempting to skirt the issue of discrimination in his
inaugural address in 1909. Here the president states that racial inequality in the South was a non issue
and should be allowed to fix itself. One year later in 1910, Roosevelt gave his New Nationalism
speech to the people of Osawatomie, Kansas. He makes the declaration that the government should
not be influenced by special interest groups, which is essentially a nice way of saying that he will do
nothing about discrimination. Both presidents, who were considered by many to be progressive
approached inequality with a lazy, slothful demeanor, so it is hardly surprising that the issue was

Process Essay On Nails
Sometimes all a girl needs is a little boost of confidence. Some girls find that in a new outfit, others
find it in a new hairstyle. However, the most effective way to feel better about yourself is a fresh set of
acrylic nails. To get the perfect nails, the nail technician will prepare your nails, apply the acrylic, and
paint on the color of your choice.
Preparing your nails is crucial in the process of getting the best set of acrylic nails. In the first step, the
nail technician will remove any old nail polish using acetone and cotton balls. Next, they will trim
down your real nails. This provides a good base for the acrylic. To provide the ideal surface, the nail
technician will file the surface of your nails and push back your cuticles. After this, they will apply a
nail primer. The primer usually contains vitamins and will help protect your nails from damage. After

perfection. Once your tips are how you want them to be, the nail technician will load a small

combination on the brush creates a gel like substance that will be painted onto your nail and the tips
that were placed on earlier. After around a five minute drying time, filing and shaping may be

History of Internet Essay examples
Without a doubt, the Internet is undergoing a major transition as it experiences a tremendous influx of
new users. Due to the anarchic, distributed nature of the net, we cannot even begin to enumerate the
population of the Internet or its growth. As more of the world s population moves on line, new
concerns will arise which did not confront the earlier generations. The new culture will demand
different resources, services and technology than the old generations expected and used. Already we
can witness a clash between the emergent culture and the entrenched culture. The largest conflicts
occurring now are about sharing resources, the impending commercialization of the net, and the
growing problem of computer crime.

It is only in the past year or two that we have begun to see the explosion of the new generation on the
Internet. Businesses have begun connecting themselves to the net, especially with the prospect of the
NSFNET backbone changing hands to permit commercial traffic. Public access nets run by
communities or businesses are springing up in cities all over the world, bringing in users who know
little about computers and are more interested in the entertainment and information they can glean
from the net.
Commercial providers like America Online and Compuserve are beginning to open gateways from
their exclusive services to the open Internet, specifically allowing their users to access email, netnews
and soon ftp and telnet services. The explosion of BBSs and the shared Fidonet software has brought
many users who were previously unable to get an account through a university to the world of email
and netnews. At this point, anyone with a computer and a modem can access these most basic
services. Several state s, such as Maryland, have begun efforts to connect all their residents to the net,
often through their library system. The city of Cambridge,
MA now offers access to the world wide web for short segments of time in its public libraries, and
even several progressive coffeehouses in the San Francisco Bay area and soon in the Boston area are
offering public net access.

Ray ended buying the brothers out for one million each respectfully, the total amount that Ray actually

amount of money and Ray actually had to borrow money from multiple sources in order to meet the

of the businesses annual earnings, it was also rumored that Ray could not agree to this on paper but

form their own system of governance but their civilized mannerisms start to dissipate. Similarly in the
film adaptation of Stephen King s The Mist, a group of people are trapped in a grocery store when a
mysterious fog sweeps over their town. With brutal beasts waiting ominously outside, this group also
tries to come up with a form of governance, but their morals and civilized ways start to vanish as their
fear becomes more present.
The fight for power plays a big part in both the LOTF and The Mist. When the plane crashes in LOTF,
Ralph gathers everyone together with the conch. When the boys take a vote they all decide Ralph
should be chief, even though Jack: the head of the choir, yearns for the position. The conflict between
Ralph and Jack starts with the desire to be in charge, but is intensified by their disagreements on what
is most important. Jack feels that the most important thing is hunting; Ralph feels the most important
thing is to be rescued. Jack tries to overthrow Ralph as chief, but when he is unsuccessful he leaves to
form his own group. All but

Spanking Argumentative Essay
Position Rough Draft When it comes to disciplining a child, some parents will resort to spanking, or
better known in the South as a whupping . The origins of the anti spanking prohibition have a lot to do
with two social phenomena of postwar America: the rise of popular psychology and the breakup of the
extended family (4). Those who were spanking as children argue that they turned out just fine , and
these parents believe that spanking is the most effective form of punishment, while there have been
studies conducted that have interesting results that may come as a shock to those parents. Their studies
have concluded that spanking could lead to many negative effects throughout the child s life and on
into adulthood. The scholars who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who are against it go on to say that spanking causes the child and parents bond to be unhealthy.
Most studies have found that the relationship between the child and parent decreases and that children
who are spanked have a less trusting and affectionate relationship with their parents and feel less guilt
about misbehavior, as opposed to concern about being caught (3). Spanking is known to have only one
positive effect, and that is to stop the disliked behavior immediately. Spanking can be defined as a
lesson taught out of violence, and violence is defined as an act carried out with the intention, or
perceived intention, of causing physical pain or injury to another person. ( 6 ). If this is the way
spanking is defined, what are we teaching our children? We are teaching them that it is okay to act out
of violence when they become frustrated, and that it is okay to hit someone when they are upset with
them. Many believe that since spanking is done out of anger, parents who spank are more likely to
commit child abuse when disciplining their children. Studies have shown that children who are
spanked have a greater tendency to fear their parents and not have a loving child/parent bond. Dr.
Aminifu R. Harvey, a professor at the University Of Maryland Baltimore School Of Social Work,
stated that, Studies have shown that children spanked in anger lose respect for the parents and view
them as out of control negating the whole point of discipline, which is to muster self control (2). It is
also believed that spanking can cause a child to start lying in order to avoid getting caught and being
punished. Along with that, some also believe that spanking is leading to children learning to become
sneakier in order to not get

Essay about Egyptian Funerary Practices
Egyptian Funerary Practices
Ancient Egyptian civilization was based on religion. Their belief in the rebirth after death became
their driving force behind their funeral practices. Death was simply a temporary interruption, rather
than an end to life, and that eternal life could be ensured by means of worship to the gods,
preservation of the physical form thru mummification, substantial ceremonies and detailed burial
policies and procedures. Even though many today have varying views of an afterlife, many of the
funerary practices that originated in Egypt can be seen in present day funeral services.
The Egyptians believed that the human soul used the first night after death to travel into the afterlife.

Even though we today do not invest the time, the amount of care given is still present.
The temples, pyramids, tombs, and religious artifacts left behind all tell us that the Ancient Egyptians
believed in the resurrection of the dead. Their belief in immortality was the fundamental driving force
behind their religion. The formulae which were declared to have been recited during the performance
of ceremonies were written down and copied for scores of generations, and every pious, well to do
Egyptian made arrangements that what had been done and said on behalf of Osiris should be done and
said for him outside and inside his tomb after his death. (Liturgy of Funeral Offerings, pg.2) This
illustrates just how important the ceremony and the process was to the Egyptians. Their belief in the
afterlife and the importance of the ceremonial steps taken to get them there caused them great concern
with their own funerals. Today, everyone has an idea of what they would like to do for their own
funeral as well. We may follow in the same patterns as our family heritage has done for generations
with either a traditional funeral or cremation, or we may have a newer alternative in mind for our self.
Even though we may not be preparing for an afterlife, we still have an

The Obligatory Elements For Establishing Fraudulent...
The following essay will discuss the obligatory elements for establishing fraudulent misrepresentation.
This explicit area of business law is reinforced by precedent cases which encapsulate and clarify the
elements required to establish an argument for damages based on fraudulent misrepresentation. In
light of this, the essay will argue in favour of Bob Wheelie, with support of relevant case law, that the
reckless actions of Mr Spokes constitute the grounds for an action for fraud and damages to the other
party (Bob Wheelie). The sufficient evidence validates that: Mr Spokes held prior knowledge about
the business claiming a false statement of fact; Mr Spokes provided the statement in order to induce
Bob into entering the contract; Mr Spokes employed the use of misrepresentation knowing that such
representation was false and would cause detrimental repercussions; and as a result Bob Wheelie
suffered economic loss. Therefore, these findings indicate that Bob Wheelie can claim damages
against Mr Spokes on the basis of fraudulent misrepresentation.
The statutory prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct under section 18(1) of the Australian
Consumer Law provides:
A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely
to mislead or deceive.
The grounds of fraudulent misrepresentation were established in the case of Derry v Peek (1889) 14

4. What should you keep in mind, regarding this patient s age, when assessing her neck veins?
View the right internal jugular vein when measuring jugular venous pressure. With aging, the aorta
stiffens, dilates, elongates, resulting in decreased pulsations on the left side. In addition, use caution
when palpating auscultating the carotid artery. Pressure in the carotid sinus may cause a reflex slowing

Comparison Of Sabinus And Cicero s War
In Book V of his Gallic War, Caesar describes Sabinus and Cicero s legions with contrasting language
in order to emphasize the different responses and competency of the two legions. The first idea that
Caesar discusses is the mindset of each legion in response to their unfortunate circumstances. During
Caesar s narrative, Sabinus s legion is surrounded on all sides by a surprise attack from Ambiorix and

Sabinus s legion, when told to let go of their baggage, were departing from their standards
everywhere, which each of them was holding most dear, each was hastening to seek and to snatch

of loyalty to the general cause of the Roman army. Each soldier, in the heat of battle, thought only of
themselves, selfishly attempting to salvage their own belongings, while neglecting the battle around

Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the continent. Those first
conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert
these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by
Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered.
His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the
documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These
documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the
clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the
interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the
accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and
ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene
Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and
amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world through the views of
Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence. Using church records,
sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world was build, experienced,
and understood by the

Subject: Role of Internal Audit
It has come to my attention that the role of internal audit is not clear to some members of the
organization outside the finance department. Therefore, it was decided that a memo is written to
explain clearly the role of internal audit.
Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting function intended to add value
and improve an organization s operations. The audit function can help an organization to achieve
objectives by evaluating an organizations risk management, control and governance processes to help
improve them.
Internal auditors (IA) assess how well risks are being managed in an organization, how the
organization is being governed and how well internal control systems and processes are working.
They report their findings to senior management, highlighting and advising management where
improvements in systems controls and processes are necessary.
By evaluating an organization s risk management and assisting management in improvement of
internal controls, IA s help management to clearly show stakeholders that they are managing the
organization well.
Different from external auditors, IA s work within an organization and their work can vary depending
on the business requirements. They do not only look at financial risks and statements but at a range of
issues that are key to a company s survival

The Media s Influence On My Political Identity

of family and friends, it is not only limited to this. During this day and age, there are further ways to

my case, the media seems to be one of the biggest influence that has shaped my political identity.
Being exposed to all kinds of media daily since childhood leaves me no doubt in saying that the media

with being an immigrant in such a hostile country, I can say with confidence that it takes perseverance
and dedication to reestablish your life in completely new surroundings from watching my family. This
being said, this is why my mind will always resonate with political parties who protect the immigrant

Sleeping is vital to the well being of a person. With enough sleep we have a healthy mind and body; it
makes us productive in our endeavors and makes us happy. However, sleep deprivation can cause
chaos and imbalance in our body. There are a lot of causes of sleepless nights and one of these is Sleep
Apnea.
Sleep apnea is a condition wherein there is cessation of breathing for 10 seconds and more during
sleep. It is a serious condition. Sleep apnea may be a preceding symptom of an underlying health
problem. There are two classifications of Sleep Apnea; the Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central Sleep
Apnea.
There are various symptoms of sleep apnea. Because Apnea is experienced during sleeping most of
the symptoms are manifested during waking hours of the person. However, there are also some
manifestations experienced by the person himself and observed by his/her loved ones when sleeping.
These manifestations occur in both types of apnea.
The most common symptom is exhaustion at daytime. This symptom is common in both types of sleep

The Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel
April 12, 1999 marked the Seventh Millennium Evening at the White House and the 54th year after
Franklin Roosevelt s death. Years after personally experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust and
World War II, Elie Wiesel shared his story with America among the President and First lady, Hillary
Clinton, to inspire the world to act upon social and political injustices. In his speech The Perils of
Indifference , Wiesel opened up about his past and how it made him realize how important it is to
stand up against crimes against humanity. He also discussed the state of the American people and
compared their involvement in foreign intervention back to the lack of intervention in World War II.
Wiesel motivated America with his emphasis on the emotional, logical, and ethical impacts of
indifference. Perhaps the most influential piece of Wiesel s speech was his inclusion of unique
personal narrative. His touching story of his youth spent in a concentration camp gave weight to his
points on indifference as he recalled that Fifty four years ago to the day, a young Jewish boy from a
small town in the Carpathian Mountains woke up...in a place of eternal infamy called Buchenwald
(Wiesel). With no property to their name and no individual rights, they marched to Buchenwald where
his father later died before they could both escape ( Wiesel, Elie ). The reality of these past horrors
gave him a strong sense of credibility as he spoke on about the time when he was oppressed and
victimized.

  • 2. Fourth Of July Analysis Wow, wow, wow! After arriving on the island, I could not contain my excitement. I m actually here! I sprinted towards the statue to get a better look and Alfred was following behind me telling me to wait up. After the conversation, Alfred said he was celebrating his birthday by himself. He had a sad look when I asked him about celebrating with his friends and family so I guess he really was celebrating alone. Poor guy and he s a cheerful one too. Feeling sorry for him I offered him to tag along with me on my Fourth of July expedition to the statue. He objected it at first because he doesn t want to get in my way, but as I was travelling alone, I change his mind. Really, dudette! I won t get in your way? No, of course not. Besides, I m traveling by myself, so a company would be nice and it s your special day too so I ll celebrate it with you So here s me and Alfred s Fourth of July slash birthday expedition to the statue. ... • 3. Telepathy In Stephen King Allie Balzer Writing 121 2017 2018 Telepathy at its Finest Stephen King, a world renowned author, has had much success in the genres of horror, science fiction and suspense. Due to his success, King decided to share some of his tricks of the trade in order to help aspiring authors with his book On Writing. Before completing this book, writing to me was just a pain. I remember this one quote that said, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot (King 145). I proceed to think, well shoot, I don t do either of those things. No wonder I don t like writing and I m not very good at it. Then as I continued through the book, I thought back to the part where King described writing as a form of telepathy, and it changed my whole perspective. Art has always been a way to express yourself and share ideas in my mind. The idea of writing doing that, and in such a direct way, kind of blew my mind. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me. The writer and the reader were connected through time and space with these shared thoughts. The best example of this is the rabbit in the cage: The most interesting thing here isn t even the carrot munching rabbit in the cage, but the number on it s back. . .This is what we re both looking at, and we all see it. . .We re not even in the same year together, let alone the same room . . . except we are together (King 106). • 4. The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes Essay The Old Gringo by Carlos Fuentes The Old Gringo is a fiction novel written by one of Latin America s most renowned and eloquent authors, Carlos Fuentes. Filled with war, adventure, love and more, this novel takes you back to the Mexican revolution fought in 1912. This contemporary fiction is based on many themes found and experienced by the main characters in this novel. The relationship between Mexico and the United States, the drive to find one s true self and the different ways two men need a woman are only a few themes contained in this story. The question: Is he Ambrose Bierce or just an old gringo, is one that I had to answer while reading this book. We all have different opinions, but it is a question that all ask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setting also influenced one of the major themes of the story, the historical relationship between the United States and Mexico. As you can see, the setting of this novel was very important to everything included in this story. The main characters in this story are Harriet Winslow, the old gringo, and Tomas Arroyo. Of the Three, Harriet learns the most as she starts her new life as governess across the frontier. She is a dynamic character that changes in the story because of the things that happen around her. Other characters include Manslavo, La Garduna, Frutos Garcia, La Luna and more. Carlos Fuentes did a very good job of describing these characters and paints a picture, like all great authors, of the characters portrayed in their novels. Most of the story revolves, however, not around the old gringo but the young gringa, Harriet Winslow. Harriet Winslow is a Yankee spinster, who decides one day in 1912 to break loose from her humdrum life by taking a job as governess in Mexico. Once she arrives, she is immediately caught in the middle of the Mexican revolution. Here, she meets the general, Tomas Arroyo, and the American author, the old gringo. Harriet is described as a, quick, elegant, and a beautiful woman of thirty. ; In a discussion with Miss Harriet and the old gringo, we learn that her father disappeared in the Spanish American War somewhere in Cuba. ... • 6. Smoke Signals Film Techniques Throughout the movie Smoke Signals, there are many themes that are portrayed as the story progresses. Two central ideals that we see in the movie are the journey to forgiveness and defining fatherhood. In the beginning of the film, we witness Arnold (Victor s father) saving Thomas from a burning house, but when thanked by Thomas grandmother he says I didn t mean to. his response becomes self explanatory by the end of the film. Unfortunately, Thomas parents do not escape the house fire and succumb to the flames. Although Thomas parents passed away, he held some sort of father figure through Arnold and motherly figure through his grandmother who solely raised him. Victor had his father as a young boy, but lost his father through abandonment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Victor, built a hatred for his father because he left him and his mother broken. Arnold was portrayed as a stereotypical drunk, dead beat dad that left his family to fend for themselves. Throughout the movie there are many flashbacks that show a lot of foreshadowing leading to Arnold s absence. In one of the flashbacks, Arnold is in the truck with Victor and says to him during a drunken rant ...one day I ll make myself disappear. However, there are a handful of precious memories that Victor held with his father. I believe that this is what led Victor on his journey to find the truth as to why his father left him and his mother. The moment that Victor finds out the truth about the house fire many years ago, his hatred begins to whither and he sees his father in a new yet complicated light. Learning the truth eventually frees him from his rage towards his father and irritation towards Thomas; he may feel as though Thomas is a victim of his father s selfish actions. The thought behind censorship in Singapore stem from the idea that media can have negative effects on their consumers, it is therefore wiser to err on the side of caution through censorship (Ang and Nadarajan, 1996). • 12. Reflection Of Personal Branding After speaking with Christina on the phone, I learned how she experienced the summer Management program during her undergrad as an English major at WFU. She was an English major and did not know specifically what she wanted to do immediately after graduation. After applying to a couple jobs, she received feedback from a stranger who happened to be a fellow WFU alum. This individual did not think Christina would get a job at her company, but offered to spread her resume around. Christina was extremely grateful for the kindness the other lady gave her, and she eventually landed a role as part of a production company for her first job. Christina learned of her current employer, Compass Professional Health Services, through a roommate who was a former employee of the company. She encouraged Christina to apply for the open positions, which she later did via Handshake. Hearing about her experience during the application and interview cycle(s) were great for me to see how the job market functions for this particular company. One of the things that caught my attention after Christina was offered and accepted a position at Compass was the training time prior to officially starting. The amount of preparation before, and then observing and learning from others at work was a great example for me to listen and visualize while thinking of the points discussed in Personal Branding. A point during our practice reviewing resumes was that companies are particular with new hires, because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Failure of the Progressive Movement Although the Progressive Era managed to solve much of the backwater left over from Industrialization, it failed in regards to discrimination. America would have to wait decades later for the issue of civil equality to truly be addressed. Due to the apathy of the politicians during that time, the desperate need for a scapegoat, and the hypocrisy people displayed when confronted with the topic, the movement that was intended to achieve progress in society completely forgot about equality. Possibly a result of the lingering sentiments of racism from the time of slavery, politicians remained unwilling to confront the idea of discrimination. Hopeful candidates running for any public office had to appease as many voters as possible, and this often meant not angering those who still held onto racist ideologies. One can clearly see Taft attempting to skirt the issue of discrimination in his inaugural address in 1909. Here the president states that racial inequality in the South was a non issue and should be allowed to fix itself. One year later in 1910, Roosevelt gave his New Nationalism speech to the people of Osawatomie, Kansas. He makes the declaration that the government should not be influenced by special interest groups, which is essentially a nice way of saying that he will do nothing about discrimination. It has a wealth of definitions, all of which range in degree and magnitude, and vary from person to person; yet the concept of how a family should work and operate is very concrete in most American minds. Family is a bond that is crafted every second of everyday until it is powerful, and this can shape beliefs, outlooks, and confidence. This early interaction with Bledsoe furthers the neglect and embarrassment of his culture and heritage. Bledsoe s utter disdain for his fellow black man leaves the narrator with a sense of shame of his southern black roots as he heads to New York and later discovers the brotherhood and Brother Jack. Gerald Lyn Early describes Brother Jack as, the latest father figure (96) as if Invisible Man treats his mentors like ever changing trends, abandoning one and immediately latching on to another. Down on his luck the narrator easily accepts Brother Jack into his life. Brother Jack quickly opens his arms to the narrator and gives him a house, a great salary, and he even starts to shape and mentor the narrator in his image. This leads to a need and desire for confirmation of his worth by Brother Jack about his speeches and work in the community. • 22. Spanking Argumentative Essay Position Rough Draft When it comes to disciplining a child, some parents will resort to spanking, or better known in the South as a whupping . The origins of the anti spanking prohibition have a lot to do with two social phenomena of postwar America: the rise of popular psychology and the breakup of the extended family (4). Those who were spanking as children argue that they turned out just fine , and these parents believe that spanking is the most effective form of punishment, while there have been studies conducted that have interesting results that may come as a shock to those parents. Their studies have concluded that spanking could lead to many negative effects throughout the child s life and on into adulthood. The scholars who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most studies have found that the relationship between the child and parent decreases and that children who are spanked have a less trusting and affectionate relationship with their parents and feel less guilt about misbehavior, as opposed to concern about being caught (3). Spanking is known to have only one positive effect, and that is to stop the disliked behavior immediately. Spanking can be defined as a lesson taught out of violence, and violence is defined as an act carried out with the intention, or perceived intention, of causing physical pain or injury to another person. ( 6 ). If this is the way spanking is defined, what are we teaching our children? We are teaching them that it is okay to act out of violence when they become frustrated, and that it is okay to hit someone when they are upset with them. Many believe that since spanking is done out of anger, parents who spank are more likely to commit child abuse when disciplining their children. Studies have shown that children who are spanked have a greater tendency to fear their parents and not have a loving child/parent bond. Dr. Aminifu R. Harvey, a professor at the University Of Maryland Baltimore School Of Social Work, stated that, Studies have shown that children spanked in anger lose respect for the parents and view them as out of control negating the whole point of discipline, which is to muster self control (2). Their belief in the rebirth after death became their driving force behind their funeral practices. Death was simply a temporary interruption, rather than an end to life, and that eternal life could be ensured by means of worship to the gods, preservation of the physical form thru mummification, substantial ceremonies and detailed burial policies and procedures. • 25. The Obligatory Elements For Establishing Fraudulent... The following essay will discuss the obligatory elements for establishing fraudulent misrepresentation. This explicit area of business law is reinforced by precedent cases which encapsulate and clarify the elements required to establish an argument for damages based on fraudulent misrepresentation. In light of this, the essay will argue in favour of Bob Wheelie, with support of relevant case law, that the reckless actions of Mr Spokes constitute the grounds for an action for fraud and damages to the other party (Bob Wheelie). The sufficient evidence validates that: Mr Spokes held prior knowledge about the business claiming a false statement of fact; Mr Spokes provided the statement in order to induce Bob into entering the contract; Mr Spokes employed the use of misrepresentation knowing that such representation was false and would cause detrimental repercussions; and as a result Bob Wheelie suffered economic loss. Therefore, these findings indicate that Bob Wheelie can claim damages against Mr Spokes on the basis of fraudulent misrepresentation. The statutory prohibition of misleading or deceptive conduct under section 18(1) of the Australian Consumer Law provides: A person must not, in trade or commerce, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. Years after personally experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust and World War II, Elie Wiesel shared his story with America among the President and First lady, Hillary Clinton, to inspire the world to act upon social and political injustices. In his speech The Perils of Indifference , Wiesel opened up about his past and how it made him realize how important it is to stand up against crimes against humanity. Wiesel motivated America with his emphasis on the emotional, logical, and ethical impacts of indifference.
