Manny Pacquiao Case
After his demand for a boxing match has been snubbed by Floyd Mayweather Jr., British fighter Amir
Khan wants to fight Manny Pacquiao because he sees the Filipino boxing champion as the key for him
to snatch Mayweather s pound for pound spot. Sporting News reported that the 28 year old fighter
said: Khan, who had long wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., has been very disappointed when
Mayweather chose to fight someone else for his 49th and final match on September 12. He feels that
next to Pacquiao, he s the one who brings so much attention to the table more than any fighter in this
time but Mayeather did not accept his challenge and chose to fight Andre Berto instead. Khan believes

Examples Of Dystopian Discourse
Dystopian discourse is mostly totalitarianism or a government that is closed to communism with
dictatorship. At its heart is an economic critique of capitalism and socialism. Since capitalism seems to
be the opposite of socialism, it seems that totalitarianism is in the middle. In capitalism, the
businessmen are the one who has the power and get most of the money while in socialism, the society
has the power and regulate the state. In totalitarianism which is present in dystopian discourse, only
one dictator or a small group of people rule the state and everyone else follows in their command.
Some people think that there are many flaws in capitalism. Since it is how most countries are run with
business capitalists having great power over different

The Release Of Frozen Assets
The Release of Frozen Assets
One of the key elements of the Iran Nuclear Deal is the lifting of sanctions against Iran by America
and the European Union. These sanctions have been imposed over the years following the Iranian
Revolution and Iran s pursuit of nuclear weapons. The amount of assets frozen in foreign banks is
approximately $150 billion a large number will go to preexisting debt. According to Kertscher, 2016,
Kerry had told CNBC s Squawk Box that Iran would get only $55 billion of the $150 billion
referenced, saying the rest is committed to China and other countries (para. 8). Kerry stated that he

Furthermore, Iran works to destabilize the region by assisting sectarian elements in Iraq through the
use of the Revolutionary Guards and by providing support for Hezbollah the outcome leading to the

The U.S. has designated Iran along with Syria and Sudan as state sponsors of terrorism. As early as
1984, the U.S. has accused Iran of numerous acts of terrorism against the United States and its interest
(Iran Nuclear Deal Background, 2015, p. 4). Americans at the Iranian Embassy were taken hostage
subject to the 1979 Islamic Revolution. During the 1980 1988 Iran Iraq war, there was limited naval
conflict between the U.S. and Iran (Iran Nuclear Deal Background, 2015, p.4). When U.S. sailors were
detained by the Iran s Revolutionary Guard Corp and later released, Secretary of State John Kerry
announced the resolution was based upon the success of the newly developed relationship with Iran.
In spite of this interpretation, the State Department has submitted a travel warning for Americans
urging them to avoid travel to Iran. The U.S. government still does not have diplomatic or consular
relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the DOS:

Ebola Progression Paper
Critique of Yamin et al. (2015) Effect of Ebola Progression on Transmission and Control in Liberia
The Ebola outbreak of 2014 in West Africa with its devastating outcomes has been a worldwide
alarming situation leading to the development of research studies in attempt to better understand the
disease and find ways of controlling its spread. One of the most affected countries, Liberia, has been
the subject of a research study conducted by doctors and epidemiologists of Yale University in
Connecticut. Such research focused on investigating the influence of disease progression on
transmission and fatality, as well as actions to take in effort to reduce transmission rates (Yamin et al.,

Most of the literature used in this article comes from reliable governmental and international sources
such as World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in
addition to the Liberian Ministry of Health and the Liberia Institute of Statistics. These sources
provided a through, up to date information to the authors for this item. In regards to dependent and
independent variables, they are clearly identified and the relationship between them is explained. The
dependent variable of the study is identified as the Ebola virus transmission, while two independent
variables are considered to be the viral load and the amount of contacts of an infected person. This
means that infected individuals are more contagious when their viral load is high, thus the more close
contacts they get during that period, the higher the chances are of transmitting the

New Technology In Europe During The 15th And 16th Century
Throughout the Renaissance in the 15th and 16th century there were many new ideas and technologies
that became popular and helped Europe grow and expand. Some examples of new technology that
emerged during the 15th and 16 century are: the movable printing press created by Johann Gutenberg.
Another example is that during this time the Europeans began to make and improve their maps. They
also created the compass and made improvements to their boats which made for safer and faster
travels. If it were not for this new technology Europe would not have been able to gain wealth and
power as fast as it did.
First, the invention of the printing press helped to expand Europeans exploration. It allowed Europe a
way to mass produce books and other literature. This was very important for their exploration because
everyone soon became literate and everyone began to get more knowledgeable. The printing press also
allowed Europe to spread their new information and finding with other countries. The printing press
would expose some of Europe s findings and other countries would soon learn the knowledge that
Europe had, like their maps. When the word would get out everyone would put their knowledge with
this new knowledge and this is where the better maps would come from. If it were not for the printing

Their boats were now faster, stronger, and could hold more stuff. This was huge for the Europeans.
Since they were faster that means that they could do the same amount of exploration as before but in
less time which in the end means more exploring. Also the improvements made the boat easier to
control and navigate. The new and improved European ships could also hold more cargo which
allowed them to bring more stuff back with them, like crops and gold. If it were not for these
improvements made to their ships the Europeans would have been traveling at the same slow and

Essay about Microsoft Xbox
Usability Testing on Microsoft Xbox ™
Product usability testing has been around for quite a while now for the sole purpose of providing the
consumers with the best product a company can. Some companies hire specific testing consultants
who specialize in product testing and other companies just release beta versions of their product to a
small market and collect feedback. Companies like Sony or Nintendo hire companies that test their
products and make sure there are no problems with the product. Software companies, on the other
hand, release test versions, also known as beta versions, of their products and improve their final
product based on the feedback from the beta users.

After Microsoft released the Xbox, the public rushed to purchase the video game console. Almost
immediately, complaints start to appear about the console. A small percentage of Xbox units were
defective as stated in an article titled, Microsoft Addresses Report on Xbox Defects, by Shahed
Ahmed. Defects in a small percentage of any products sold happen often. However, another complaint
surfaced shortly after the Xbox was released: the controller was over sized and the button
configuration was inconvenient for certain games. Microsoft quickly addressed this complaint by
releasing a redesigned controller that was smaller and had a more convenient button configuration.
The release of the new controller Microsoft is well documented in the article written by Giancarlo
Varanini titled, Redesigned Xbox Controller in the Works.
The Microsoft Xbox is a great example of how a product is never perfect, no matter how much it is
tested prior its release. Product usability testing will never catch all the flaws, in my opinion, because
either the test groups are not diverse enough or there is not enough time to efficiently test a given
product. However, increasing the variety of test subjects along with the size of the test groups would
certainly reduce the problem,

A current interview with local Senior Manager at RadioShack backs the company s reinvigorated
focus on wireless phones, RadioShack has established their position in the wireless phone business
because of the one on one attention clientele can receive from shopping at RadioShack. This form of
attention cannot be given on such a multifaceted product by anyone other than a highly trained team
member, such as at RadioShack. The company center of attention for 2006 is wireless phones, plain

But the transition to a greater wireless focus has proved painful. In order for RadioShack to properly
evaluate and resole this issue it must apply the systems organizational behavior theory. This theory
evaluates companies as individual yet interconnected pieces of a much larger operation. If the
management team of the company alters just one facet of a department, it may cause aftershocks
which echo through other departments. Under this theory, it is important to comprehend that a
dynamic equilibrium must exist in order for the company to continue operating efficiently. That being
said, RadioShack s increased focus on wireless needs to be examined and addressed. In an effort to
regain the wireless lead from retailers, such as Wal Mart, RadioShack is continuing to expand its
wireless kiosks and replacing long time partner, Verizon Wireless, with Cingular Wireless. One thing
is for certain. RadioShack acknowledges they need to react more rapidly than in the past to the ever
changing retail environment, if they plan to survive. Survival requires adaptation, and adaptation often
involves predictable sequences. As the organization ages, it will pass through the stages of forming,
developing, maturing, and declining in relation to environmental circumstances. Thus ultimately, the
criteria of effectiveness must reflect the stage of the organization s life cycle. Time will tell if

Character Analysis Of Creon In Antigone By Sophocles
In the play Antigone, Creon s admirable personality, noble stature, and tragic flaw makes him one of
the main tragic characters in this particular play. In the beginning, Sophocles reveals Creon as only a
leader. He has legitimate reasons for all of his punishments. Creon s hubris by the end of the play has
completely taken over him, in conclusion, this leads him to his death. Once Creon finally realizes the
effect his hubris has on his problems, it is far too late. Creon lost his son, wife, his kingdom, and even
his will to live. This is the journey of a tragic character. Creon insists that Polyneices...is to have no
burial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him; he shall lie on the plain, unburied (
Scene 1. Line 29.). Considering Creon is extremely stubborn, his ego keeps him from receiving any
advice that anyone tries to tell him. My voice is the one voice giving orders in this city , says Creon.
He is too prideful to listen to anyone because he believes it ll destroy his pride. Prophet Teiresias has
an intimate discussion with him and he warns Creon a good man yields when he knows his course is
wrong. The only crime is pride ( Scene 5. Line 35). In the exodus, line 138, Creon states, Fate has
brought all my pride to a thought of dust. This shows that in the end, Creon realizes that his pride
helped bring about the chain of events that led to his fall. In line 142 of the exodus, the Choragos says,

The Theory Of The Work Of Art
Cubism was always an interpretation of objective reality, of a given motif. But Kandinsky was to
initiate was by contrast essentially and deliberately non objective. Kandinsky s own experience was
personal and even apocalyptic.
2 Kandinsky conclude non objective painting must be expressive, emotion or spiritual experience.
Non objective painting could form and colour, free form all representational aim, be articulated into a
language of symbolic discourse.
3.Art is a construction of concrete elements of form and colour which become expressive in the
process of synthesis or arrangement: the form of the work of art is in itself the content, and whatever
expressiveness there is in the work of art originates with the form.
4. The whole purpose of this alternative principle was to escape from the internal necessities of our
individual existence and to create a pure art, free from human tragedy , impersonal and universal.
5.The painter who was to develop to its logical extreme the objective concept of abstraction was Piet
Mondrian (or Mondriaan)
6. His (Mondrian s) style of pure abstraction evolves gradually and consistently form his patient
search for a reality behind the motif.

though Mondrian himself always preferred Nieuwe Beelding (neo Plasticism) as a more meaningful
word.

The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two...
The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two Comedies
Situation comedies as a whole are a conservative representation of life mainly due to the fact they are
screened at prime family times and want as large an audience as possible so try not to be too
controversial. This means they very rarely challenge the status quo and re enforce stereotypes. I am
looking at how male and female characters are represented and whether the way they are represented
challenges the stereotypes associated with gender differences.
The two situation comedies I have chosen are Friends and Man About The House . As Friends was
made decades after Man About The House it gives us a good insight into how male ... Show more

In the Man About the House title sequence one of the two lead women, Chrissy, is seen loosing her
shoe while getting bundled onto a bus. This portrays her as being dippy and dizzy which does not
challenge the stereotype that women are the vulnerable gender. Jo, the other lead female is seen
leaving a tube station and a blind man takes of his glasses to stare at her as she walks down the road
empathising how attractive she is meant to be. This however simply supports the stereotype that
women are sex objects. In the Friends title sequence the man are portrayed doing macho poses
whereas the women are seen doing much more girly poses like playing with umbrellas which does
little to promote the idea women are no longer jus pretty objects.
A huge drive for those protesting for women s liberation was equal rights in the work place, there
should be just as many women in high up jobs as men. Whether this is true or not in reality is
debateable, but what jobs males and females have in popular sitcoms sends out a clear message to
those watching. In Friends the three males have successful and appealing careers, Ross is a university
lecturer and has a PhD, Joey is an actor in a popular soap series at one point and Chandler

Technology Can Make You Sick !
1. INTRODUCTION Technology can make you sick! This is a very strong statement to make
especially at an international conference which promotes and introduces the latest in state of the art
products and achievements in information science. The reality is, however, unlike other products such
as tobacco which is packaged with the warning, such as: According to the Surgeon General the use of
this product may be hazardous to your health ; and alcohol with the label: Government Warning: (1)
according to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy
because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to
drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems. Contains sulfites. Technology is not
the problem in itself, but rather the manner in which it is used. All too often, months or even years are
spent debating and planning for new systems and the proper equipment. Specification of the products
are studied and compared; system analyses are performed; and, of major importance, the cost factor is
thoroughly scrutinized. However, one of the most important factors the human element is not even
considered. The fault lies not with tech nology but with human beings themselves who in an attempt
to upgrade and improve their ser vices consciously fail to address the human factor. Some obstacles to

Comparing the Dystopian Society in Brave New World and...
The meaning of happiness is a vague concept. Mankind has always tried to achieve this state of well
being even though there isn t a clear definition. Brave New World tells the story of a society where
there is nothing but happiness, just like a utopia, but it is considered a dystopian setting by the modern
society. In modern society, there is a simple road that most people follow to achieve happiness:
earning enough money for education, getting a university degree, a prestigious and high paying job,
and a stable marriage. To some, the road is mostly about a circle of finding ways to earn and spend
money. It seems like a bleak lifestyle when looked at from a different perspective. From a modern

Singing Commercials are a recent invention. (26). He also talks about how commercials try to seduce
children: In Europe, conscripts used to be playfully referred to as cannon fodder. Their little brothers
and sisters have now become radio fodder and television fodder. In my childhood we were taught to
sing nursery rhymes and, in pious households, hymns. Today the little ones warble the Singing
Commercials. (27). Commercials that seduce children are many, but not all of them are aimed at
children. For example, in some of the Coca Cola commercials that are shown in warm climates, there
is a hot weather and a person who is discomfortable with the heat is shown drinking a cold bottle of
Coca Cola. Then the camera zooms in and shows how Coca Cola not only quenched their thirst, but
also freshened them up. Here, the aim is associating hot weather with Coca Cola. If people think about
drinking a cold bottle of Coca Cola in a hot Summer day, then the commercial has achieved success.
Another method to create happiness is soma, a drug that works like an extremely effective anti
depressant. It creates an illusion of happiness, and it is one of the many reasons why BNW is
considered a dystopia. However, the modern society is not so much different. Dr. Brian Kaplan, A

Market Segmentation, Market Positioning, Target Market,...
Starting a company, maintaining the company, and growing the company can be done successfully
with adequate research and analysis. Difficulties arise when there has not been enough examination of
the market segmentation, market positioning, target market, and product augmentation. Each of these
analyses are ways to determine how, where, and when to start a company.
Opening a hotel is never an easy task, but choosing the right city and creating a marketing plan around
the target market is a sure way to have a successful hotel. Denton, Texas is a growing town just
outside of Dallas. The University of North Texas and Texas Woman s University lie at the center with
over 50,000 students flooding the town each year. The population was reaching almost 130,000 in
2014, making almost two thirds of the population college aged students. The median age in Denton is
twenty eight, which is six years younger than the median age in Texas (United States Census Bureau).
A fun way to get visitors engaged in the Denton lifestyle would be to create an app for the hotel that
has information collected by the locals about the town and the interesting things to do during their
visit. There would also be a part of the app that allows the customer to create their own portfolio
which would be used by the hotel to help them create life long customers. The best restaurants,

Paul Simon s Separation Of South Africa
In 1986, the United Nations made a grave mistake. The cultural boycott of South Africa encouraged
member states and organizations...to cut cultural, educational and sporting ties with South Africa. The
censorship silenced the voices of liberal musicians and artists who could have contributed to the fight
against apartheid. Moreover, the faulty amelioration justified UN members isolation of South Africa.
Through the release of Graceland, Paul Simon brought awareness to the state of South Africa. By
spreading their music and culture, he threatens the discourse on apartheid. In this paper, I will argue
how Paul Simon s breaking of the cultural boycott benefited the black South Africans.
Paul Simon broke the cultural boycott by bringing two cultures together through a collaborative
process. He diminished the binary of us and them by creating music beyond cultural boundaries.
When he created the album, he didn t want it to be just an African album . By doing so, Simon not
only brought awareness to African culture, but conveyed how the unification of two separate cultures
can create something beautiful. In his songs he included lyrics, which mixed African and English
words. The hegemony of South Africa wanted to control what was spoken to control power. However,
this amalgamation undermined the discourse on apartheid as those who were able ... Show more

beauty that may arise from mixing cultures. Simon did not just tell the world of the good
amalgamation can do, but he told the world how these artists were affected under the rule of apartheid.

opportunity to travel abroad for music s sake. Through breaking the cultural boycott and undermining
discourse on apartheid, Paul Simon aided the black South

African Americans And African American Culture Essay
Exactly how black is black America? African American culture in the United States has evolved
continuously throughout United States history carrying on various cultural traditions of African ethnic
groups brought here during slavery. The U.S. Census Bureau defines African Americans as a person
having origins in any of the Black race groups of Africa. [1]. African American culture is derived
chiefly from people originated from sub Saharan and Sahelian cultures in Africa. Over hundreds of
years, black culture has partially been assimilated into western ideals in America. However, despite
the persistent persecutions of slave culture , the African influences brought here has evolved and
continues to be relevant through Black American artwork, literature, musical production, cuisines, and
language still present in their societies. These are all spirited by influences of the Africa nation that
originated the black culture here in present times.
Artwork has been an imperative part of Black culture, and many artist share their inspirations coming
from African origins. From the beginning of slave societies to present day, African America artwork
has contributed to large parts of United States artistic collection. Beginning in the early 1600 to 1800
black art took the form of small drums, quilts, wrought iron figures and ceramic vessels in the
southern United States. These artifacts have similarities with comparable crafts in West and Central

Discussion
The results of the analysis suggest that English native speakers use a greater number of singular self
mention in linguistics research articles than scholars affiliated with Ukrainian universities, who avoid
using them completely and rely on plural forms. This confirms the previous findings that primarily
plural self mention is employed in academic writing in Slavic languages (Vassileva, 1998), and that
academic texts in English by native speakers show the greatest use of singular forms in comparison to
other languages (Flottum, 2005; Molino, 2010; Vassileva, 1998; Wu Zhu, 2014; Yakhontova, 2002;
2006). It can be assumed that, in American academic culture, scholars tend to establish their presence
in the articles and show that research has been carried out exclusively by them and that the method
and interpretations of findings are based on their own judgement. This way they might acknowledge
the fact that although research should be an objective presentation of reality, it is still subjective
because it is interpreted and documented by a researcher. In addition, since Americans are
representatives of an individualistic culture, they might be willing to identify their personal
contributions to the discourse.
In contrast, Ukrainians writing in Ukrainian seem to distance or even remove themselves from the
texts by using impersonal forms and plural self mention. Also, plural self mention is only expressed
through verb inflections, which means that Ukrainians do not

How The Blood Type Of Blood
Abstract During this lab, students will learn how to perform a process as if it was a real blood test.
Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use synthetic antisera to the A, B, and
Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able to identify the blood type of each blood sample and
how the blood type is determined.
Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many different ways that keep us
healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process of removing
wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this
specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood
vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s weight is
made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is made of
different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent
cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It
is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. The plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and
bring waste products to be removed from the body to the kidney and liver. ( American Society of
Hematology . n.d.) The blood cells are main components of the blood and have distinct purposes. Red

Analysis Of The Movie The Return Of Martin Guerre
The role of Bertrande de Rols in the film The Return of Martin Guerre is a firm representation of the
way in which women of this time subscribed to clear gender norms. She was a dutiful wife who stayed
behind while her husband went off to war and to travel the world. She was willing to submit to him (or
Arnaud, the man who ended up being an imposter of Martin) and settle down to have children upon
his return. And when it came time to stand up him, she played her role in that process too (even
though it wasn t her husband for whom she was initially testifying). She doesn t have the leeway in
which to create her own path in life, and seems to constantly bend to the whim of others. Bertrande is
the quintessential example of how women throughout history kept the home fires burning while their
men explored the world, and then were forced to take back whatever iterations of their mates they got
back (which in this case, wasn t even the same man).
To say that Bertrande was likely initially underwhelmed with Martin s return would be putting it
mildly. Historians that have studied this period in French history for women surmise that Bertrande
likely enjoyed the freedom of making her own decisions (Lewis 65). In fact, in her book The Wife of
Martin Guerre, author Janet Lewis envisages an existence for Bertrande that speaks to just how much
she likely enjoyed the freedom of being her own person when Martin first went away. At the same
time, she was clearly vilified for it. Of this,

How The Phone Call Has Become Less Popular Over Time
The Phone call has become less popular over time. Among young people, the most popular medium
for communication is via Text Message. For example, when people initiated a date, these statistics
were found; for those over 30, 52% said a phone call, 28% face to face, 8% text message, E mail 7%.
For those under 30, 23% said a phone call, 37% said face to face, 32% said text message, E mail 1% .
(Aziz Ansari. Chapter 2. Modern Romance. Penguin, 2015. Audio book.) Notice the drop in phone
calls from the older group to the younger group. There is a 29% difference in the amount of phone
calls. That s a rather large drop. Now look at the gap of texting from the younger group to the older
group. There is a 24% difference in the amount each group texts. It is plane to see that each generation
differs on their pursuit methods. Process Analysis How to ask someone out on a date. When asking
someone out on a date, you must first pick your preferred medium. Over text, over the phone, or in
person. Let s just say for now, you re asking someone out over text. The first thing you need to do is
asses the current relationship you two already have. Is it a friend that you want to be with, or is it a
new face you want to learn about. The second and most important thing is knowing what to say. You
don t want to say the wrong thing and sound insensitive or rude. Think carefully about the person you
are messaging, how do you think they feel about you? Just keep that

The Laramie Project and Shakespeare
Artistic creations can be a means for the exploration of human attitudes, feelings and behaviors. The
performing arts are an example of an artistic media that can be utilized in this way. For example, the
use of theatre and film can be applied as way to explore some of the human attitudes, feelings and
behaviors that are related to topics such as tolerance, acceptance, anger, hatred and also forgiveness.
Two such performing arts examples are The Laramie Project and Shakespeare as presented in the
Secured Housing Unit (SHU) at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF), a super maximum
security prison in the state of Indiana. These productions offer their creators and viewers alike, the
opportunity to learn much about the attitudes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My son died because of your ignorance and intolerance. I can t bring him back. But I can do my best
to see that this never, ever happens to another person or another family again. Wavering from a desire
for healing and feelings of anger, he followed with, You robbed me of something very precious, and I
will never forgive you for that. Although Dennis Shepard struggled with feelings of anger and hatred,
he was beginning the process of healing. Regarding the SHU Shakespearian production, the writers
decided to rework the ending scenes of their version of Hamlet. The men in the SHU determined that
Hamlet, when faced with the choice to revenge or not, must choose the latter because choosing
vengeance could only result in his death or imprisonment. The man in Cell E explained that,
Shakespeare doesn t offer an alternative to the violence. Is this the message we re trying to send
society, particularly the youth? No (Scott Douglass, 2007 p. 113.). The writers decided that Hamlet
would give a speech explaining an alternative way, I don t want to become what my father was. I don t
want to become what your father was. We ve got to break this cycle, man, the two of us, right here and
right now (Scott Douglass, 2007 p. 113.). The men in the SHU rewrote Hamlet in such a way as to
teach an alternative to retaliation, that of nonviolent social change. Each production offered a unique

Arguments Against The Law Exhibiting Driver s License
If I were a member of the West Virginia state legislature, I would have voted against the law
prohibiting dropouts younger than eighteen to obtain their driver s license. I believe that there are
numerous reasons why it is necessary for teens under the age of eighteen to drive. For instance, many
teens start their first job around the age of sixteen, which is also the minimum age required for a
provisional driver s license. However if the teen dropped out of high school, they would not be able to
apply for the license making it harder, or even impossible, for them to work at their given hours. The
law is believed to prevent students from dropping out, yet it isn t 100% effective for those who don t
feel school is for them and would rather work

The Following Treatment Plan Will Look At The Jarrett...
The following treatment plan will look at the Jarrett family, an upper class family that struggles with
the death of the oldest son, Buck. After the last harsh confrontation with her husband (Calvin), Beth
decided to run away to Houston and leave the family. Without knowing if Beth wants to come back,
Calvin and Conrad join therapy to face this delicate situation. By considering this information, our
treatment plan will look at their family dynamics from three theoretical perspectives: Bowenian family
therapy, Structural Family therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Family Therapy.
Step 1: Select a Problem List
Calvin and Conrad express their concerns in term of lack of relationship with Beth. Conrad thinks he
is responsible and guilty in regarding of her mother s decision to leave to Texas. He also blames her
mother to be neglectful, hostile, and coward. Besides, Conrad mentions that he is unable to re
establish friendships with Joe, Kevin, and other members of the swimming team.
Calvin thinks that Beth s unwillingness to come back and join them in therapy is a threat to their
relationship. He describes himself as powerless and abandoned by her. Also, Calvin is worried about
Conrad well being. He believes Conrad is too sensitive and does not want he blames himself as the
reason for the marriage crisis.
Behind the communication barrier with Beth, there are hidden problems. Conrad is still dealing with
many side effects of Buck s death, such as constant guilt, anger, and

The Western Artistic Tradition By Stephen Owen
The Western artistic tradition is limited to normative operations of representing reality through
mimesis while the Chinese were concerned with its hermeneutics. The Great Preface to the Book of
Songs claims that what a poem is consists in its articulation of inner intent (zhi 志). More importantly,
Stephen Owen points out that this zhi is something of an intense and involuntary fixture on reality.
With this in mind, Guo Xi echoes the words of the ancients by noting that a poem is a painting without
form and a painting is a poem with form. However, one can go even further by speculating that human
interpretations of reality call for a necessary mediation by form before they can be organized into
language. Thus, there is an immediate crossing over of spatial boundaries in the process of perceiving
reality, internalizing it, and manifesting it through a painting. Su Shi s notion of immediate reaction
complements the idea of zhi as involuntarily manifested, concerning a spontaneous movement of the
essence of reality from Nature to the human heart mind and finally into the painting.
The implication of this process is twofold, the first one being that the painter displaces an essential
Truth from the external world onto the silk scroll which says something about the world in which man
dwells. The second is that what the painting (including the process of painting) does is mediate a
necessary association between humans and the external world. The literati of Northern Song

Essay about Vitiligo and Michael Jackson
Vitiligo is a skin disease in which there is a loss of pigment (color) from areas of skin, ending in
abnormal patches that feel like normal skin. Vitiligo affects 0.5 1% of people worldwide. That means
about two million people are affected by this disease in this country alone. Compared to how many
people live on this earth , the number isn t that large. It s pretty rare to have this disease. One of the
two million people that was affected by this disease was a music icon, the king of pop, Michael
Jackson. Throughout his life, Michael s appearance transformed, especially the color of his skin. The
color of his skin became substantially lighter and in such little time. People were thinking the worst.

Like Dr. Morgan said, the reason people get vitiligo is unknown. Even though a person can get it at
any time in their life, people usually get it between the ages of 10 and 30. It does not matter whether
you are a female or a male or your race; anybody can contract it. At the moment it s believed that a
person cannot be born with it. For vitiligo to be diagnosed, a doctor needs a precise history of illnesses
the patient may have had, family history and scrutiny of a characteristic lesions. There is no clear
pattern of inheritance and no one yet knows which (if any) gene or group of genes is responsible for
the condition in humans , said Dr. Morgan. In an interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey in
1993, Michael said, It s in my family, my father said it s on his side. I can t control it, I don t
understand, I mean, it makes me very sad . Skin disorders like tinea versicolor need to be excluded.
Mostly doctors diagnose by observation. The loss of pigmentation is more noticeable in people with
darker skin. The doctor can order a skin biopsy to make sure the patient does not have another disease
that is not vitiligo. In some cases, the doctor can suggest the patient get an eye examination to make
sure they do not have uveitis ( inflammation of part of the eye), which can be associated with vitiligo.

The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain By Langston Hughes
The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain is a short essay written for The Nation Magazine by the
poet Langston Hughes, it quickly became a manifesto for the Harlem Renaissance. The Racial
Mountain , is the racial struggles that black Americans face in all areas, but with a particular focus on
art. It explores issues of standardisation and a form of cultural identity crisis with black artists in
America who rather than accepting themselves with a cultural pride, try to emulate the white
Americans. Hughes asserts that black artists should stop trying to copy whites as they will never create
anything great that way. Instead they should draw from black culture and express it through art with
pride. He uses an unidentified promising young black poet to affirm these views, one day this poet
told him I want to be a poet not a Negro poet . This statement to Hughes meant I want to be a white
poet , or more alarmingly to Hughes I want to be white .
Hughes understands the poet s desires to be a desire to turn away from his African American heritage
and instead absorb the white culture. Hughes essay raises the concerns of the Harlem Renaissance as it
celebrates African American innovations such as blues, spirituals, jazz, and literary works which
engage African American life. He highlights that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hemingway Determination
Authors provide influential messages and lessons to the readers by using myriad themes throughout
their books. The author, Hemingway of the novella, The Old Man and the Sea, constantly states the
theme of determination . Determination means not giving up on something that is desirable. In
everyday life, we all strive for things we desire. Hemingway expresses to the readers the real meaning
of determination and the use of determination in our everyday life. One of the major myriad themes
that Hemingway states in The Old Man and the Sea is determination. Determination means firmness
of purpose, to never give up. The meaning of this empowering word inspires many to achieve their

By implementing determination, never allow failure to be a discouragement. For instance, a historical
figure named Thomas Edison tried multiple times to invent the light bulb, but was unsuccessful.
Because of his determination, he did not allow that to make him give up, yet he allowed those failed
attempts to encourage him to go above and beyond, and eventually he invented the first light bulb and
made history. This example was to enlighten not to allow one failed attempt to become a
discouragement, but yet an encouragement to do better. Like Edison once stated, Our greatest
weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
An author uses themes to apply life lessons for the readers. Hemingway, the author of The Old Man

Analysis of the Homeless Family in America
High Risk Families: Statistical and Theoretical Analysis of the Homeless Family in America
Introduction While homelessness may be an issue that is so far from the minds of the average
American family, the truth remains that the current homelessness statistics in America suggest that the
issue of homelessness is far more average than one could ever imagine. As of January 2012, The
National Alliance to End Homelessness published a series of reports that listed the number of
homeless Americans at 636,017 with a rate of homelessness at 21 homeless people per 10,000
individuals in the general population (NAEH, 2012, pp.1). While 636,017 may seem small in
comparison to the country s 311,291,917 citizens, homelessness remains an issue that stems through
the ages, through families, through neighborhoods, through ethnicity and the like. Homelessness
detrimentally effects families in their health, mortality rate, and ability to seek out employment and
basic education. In further viewing the statistics at hand regarding the homeless, their health and
behavior, as well as understanding how these people and this issue can be remedied within our
country, an overarching assessment of family life and the causes and relief measures of homelessness
must be taken into account. Health Profile and Behavioral Patterns Homelessness has long been
associated with health risks and poor behavioral patterns based solely on the inability to purchase
sufficient care. Research notes that

Dichotomy In The Outsiders
Have your feelings ever lead you to believe that you did not belong? Feeling such as those are
elegantly portrayed in S.E. Hinton s fictional novel The Outsiders by multiple characters in groups in
the book. These include the social classes, Ponyboy Curtis, and lastly Johnny Cade. When a person s
mind tells them they are different, than they can be classified as an outsider, which means that feeling
of being original is all in the mind. To begin, an outsider is someone who seems left out, whether it is
an opinion of themselves or that of others. In The Outsiders, two social classes; greasers and Socs
show that outsiders can be both inside and outside groups. They also show the role of dichotomy in
discrimination. A character named Cherry Valance is an outsider among the Socs yet she is a part of
that group. We aren t the same class. she had said to Ponyboy ... Show more content on

Socs in the book are explained as cool to the point of not feeling anything (38). Conclusively, Cherry
may be a part of the Socs but is an outsider from them. Her relationship with Ponyboy shows that Socs
and greasers dichotomy only seems to be. Secondly, the main character in the novel, Ponyboy Curtis
displays the role of an outsider by differentiating it from the term individual. Ponyboy is only a part of
the gang because of his brothers. I was a tagalong and a kid he had said Soda always took me when
they went places (9). Even though his siblings had brought Ponyboy to the gang, they still accepted
him, even though he was younger, and felt differently about certain things. His differences is classified
him as an individual as well as an outsider. In summary, it is important to realize the difference
between the concept of individuality from being outsider. Lastly, a small, fragile boy from The
Outsiders named Johnny Cade shows the role of a person s past, and comparison in

Essay On Hume s Views On Miracles
Hume s View of Miracles Much of Hume s audience, both when it wrote it and in contemporary times,
is religious, or at least surrounded by a culture that is largely religious. As such, Hume spends Section
X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory
with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in
them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from
our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event,
then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the
groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of
evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that
has the highest probability. For example, if there were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, while there is evidence for miracles in the form of testimony, the uniform experience of
natural laws trumps testimony. Because no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, we have a
uniform experience against every miraculous event. 12 In other words, whenever there is a miraculous
claim, an actual miracle has the lowest probability of being true, while any naturalistic explanation has
a higher probability of being true, because a naturalistic explanation fits with our uniform experience.
Therefore, Hume concludes that uniform experience amounts to a proof. . . against the existence of
any miracle, meaning that we can rest assured that all miraculous claims are

on the child s own utterances. Across the school everyone is much more aware of the use of language
that is appropriate to a child s needs. However, we identified times when it is appropriate to give
children time to watch something, and provide them with key words that naturally describe what is

Jay-Z s From The Frying Pan Into The Fire
Hip hop is a culture created by people who felt that some aspects of the culture of capitalism did not
fit them. Hip hop was able to give them a form of expression, a means of earning and a better
representation for themselves. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer
of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a
young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying
Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on
how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip
hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the
hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules.
Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system,
that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when
groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what
not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start
following. The culture of capitalism was created through the anxieties to which it poses itself as a
necessary answer (Hochschild 145). For this reason, what used to be just an

Muslim Women Essay
The American media has a tendency to portray Muslims in a negative light. Some pity Muslims while
others feel pure disdain for them. This statement made by Ann Coulter (2001) following the
September 11th terrorist attacks demonstrates the disdain for Muslims, We should invade their
countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity (as cited in Arab American National
Museum, 2011). While this particular statement was directed at all Muslims, there are also many
misconceptions directed solely at Muslim women. In this essay, I will discuss the issue of Muslim
women and some of the ways in which their reality contradicts the common media representations of
women in that area. The first common media representation of ... Show more content on

A second common assumption of the Muslim women is that they are forced into marriage. While it is
true that arranged marriages do still take place in the Muslim world, the marriages are not forced upon
anyone (Ahmed, 1999). Before an arranged marriage takes place, parents and older relatives discuss
different possible matches, but the person, for whom they are searching a mate, is always involved in
the discussions (Ahmed, 1999). Then before the marriage can take place, both future spouses must
agree to the marriage in front of witnesses (Ahmed, 1999). A third common media stereotype of
Muslim women is that their sole purpose is to please their husbands. Geraldine Brooks author of the
book, Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women wrote that Muslim women are
expected to sacrifice their comfort and freedom to service the requirements of male sexuality; either to
repress or stimulate the male sex urge (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). This
stereotype is heightened by the fact that Islam allows polygamy. While Islam does allow men to take
four wives, it is only advised that they do so under extreme circumstances (Ahmed, 1999). In fact, the
Quran recommends that one wife is best because one who marries multiple wives must treat all of
them completely equal and that is a difficult task (Ahmed, 1999). Muslim women like Muslim men
play a part in the family, but their part goes way beyond simply pleasing their

then attacked Lydia, capturing both Lydia and the Mediterranean coast of Anatolia (Making Europe

Palestine soon respected the authority of Cyrus the Great (Making Europe 54). In 535 B.C.E., Cyrus
also displays his religious conciliation of his subject peoples by allowing the Jews to leave Babylon

Rise Of Fascism

Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged
during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end of
the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions
which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the
Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascism is, and always will be,
inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the
Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the
emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany.
The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist,
expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy and
raised living standards. Indeed, Gentile comments that fascism in both Italy and Germany wanted to
conquer new countries and spread the empire of the totalitarian new civilization all over the New

At its heart is an economic critique of capitalism and socialism. Since capitalism seems to be the opposite of socialism, it seems that totalitarianism is in the middle. In capitalism, the businessmen are the one who has the power and get most of the money while in socialism, the society has the power and regulate the state. In totalitarianism which is present in dystopian discourse, only one dictator or a small group of people rule the state and everyone else follows in their command. • 4. The Release Of Frozen Assets The Release of Frozen Assets One of the key elements of the Iran Nuclear Deal is the lifting of sanctions against Iran by America and the European Union. These sanctions have been imposed over the years following the Iranian Revolution and Iran s pursuit of nuclear weapons. The amount of assets frozen in foreign banks is approximately $150 billion a large number will go to preexisting debt. According to Kertscher, 2016, Kerry had told CNBC s Squawk Box that Iran would get only $55 billion of the $150 billion referenced, saying the rest is committed to China and other countries (para. 8). (CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER: ALLOWING TERRORISM SPONSOR IRAN NUCLEAR WEAPONS IS TOTAL INSANITY , 2015). The U.S. has designated Iran along with Syria and Sudan as state sponsors of terrorism. As early as 1984, the U.S. has accused Iran of numerous acts of terrorism against the United States and its interest (Iran Nuclear Deal Background, 2015, p. 4). One of the most affected countries, Liberia, has been the subject of a research study conducted by doctors and epidemiologists of Yale University in Connecticut. • 6. New Technology In Europe During The 15th And 16th Century Throughout the Renaissance in the 15th and 16th century there were many new ideas and technologies that became popular and helped Europe grow and expand. Some examples of new technology that emerged during the 15th and 16 century are: the movable printing press created by Johann Gutenberg. Another example is that during this time the Europeans began to make and improve their maps. They also created the compass and made improvements to their boats which made for safer and faster travels. If it were not for this new technology Europe would not have been able to gain wealth and power as fast as it did. First, the invention of the printing press helped to expand Europeans exploration. It allowed Europe a way to mass produce books and other literature. This was very important for their exploration because everyone soon became literate and everyone began to get more knowledgeable. The printing press also allowed Europe to spread their new information and finding with other countries. The printing press would expose some of Europe s findings and other countries would soon learn the knowledge that Europe had, like their maps. When the word would get out everyone would put their knowledge with this new knowledge and this is where the better maps would come from. If it were not for the printing ... Since they were faster that means that they could do the same amount of exploration as before but in less time which in the end means more exploring. Also the improvements made the boat easier to control and navigate. The new and improved European ships could also hold more cargo which allowed them to bring more stuff back with them, like crops and gold. • 7. Essay about Microsoft Xbox Usability Testing on Microsoft Xbox ™ Product usability testing has been around for quite a while now for the sole purpose of providing the consumers with the best product a company can. Some companies hire specific testing consultants who specialize in product testing and other companies just release beta versions of their product to a small market and collect feedback. Companies like Sony or Nintendo hire companies that test their products and make sure there are no problems with the product. Software companies, on the other hand, release test versions, also known as beta versions, of their products and improve their final product based on the feedback from the beta users. There are many products that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Microsoft released the Xbox, the public rushed to purchase the video game console. Almost immediately, complaints start to appear about the console. A small percentage of Xbox units were defective as stated in an article titled, Microsoft Addresses Report on Xbox Defects, by Shahed Ahmed. Defects in a small percentage of any products sold happen often. However, another complaint surfaced shortly after the Xbox was released: the controller was over sized and the button configuration was inconvenient for certain games. Microsoft quickly addressed this complaint by releasing a redesigned controller that was smaller and had a more convenient button configuration. The release of the new controller Microsoft is well documented in the article written by Giancarlo Varanini titled, Redesigned Xbox Controller in the Works. The Microsoft Xbox is a great example of how a product is never perfect, no matter how much it is tested prior its release. Product usability testing will never catch all the flaws, in my opinion, because either the test groups are not diverse enough or there is not enough time to efficiently test a given product. However, increasing the variety of test subjects along with the size of the test groups would certainly reduce the problem, References 1. Ahmed, S. (2000, December 19). A current interview with local Senior Manager at RadioShack backs the company s reinvigorated focus on wireless phones, RadioShack has established their position in the wireless phone business because of the one on one attention clientele can receive from shopping at RadioShack. This form of attention cannot be given on such a multifaceted product by anyone other than a highly trained team member, such as at RadioShack. The company center of attention for 2006 is wireless phones, plain and simple. Employees are paid a commission on wireless sales. This is higher than any other item in our store. Our manager s compensation is tied to store performance, which is most greatly impacted by performance of wireless sales. It is expected of us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the transition to a greater wireless focus has proved painful. In order for RadioShack to properly evaluate and resole this issue it must apply the systems organizational behavior theory. This theory evaluates companies as individual yet interconnected pieces of a much larger operation. If the management team of the company alters just one facet of a department, it may cause aftershocks which echo through other departments. Under this theory, it is important to comprehend that a dynamic equilibrium must exist in order for the company to continue operating efficiently. That being said, RadioShack s increased focus on wireless needs to be examined and addressed. In an effort to regain the wireless lead from retailers, such as Wal Mart, RadioShack is continuing to expand its wireless kiosks and replacing long time partner, Verizon Wireless, with Cingular Wireless. One thing is for certain. RadioShack acknowledges they need to react more rapidly than in the past to the ever changing retail environment, if they plan to survive. Survival requires adaptation, and adaptation often involves predictable sequences. As the organization ages, it will pass through the stages of forming, developing, maturing, and declining in relation to environmental circumstances. Thus ultimately, the criteria of effectiveness must reflect the stage of the organization s life cycle. Time will tell if RadioShack is in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the beginning, Sophocles reveals Creon as only a leader. He has legitimate reasons for all of his punishments. Creon s hubris by the end of the play has completely taken over him, in conclusion, this leads him to his death. Once Creon finally realizes the effect his hubris has on his problems, it is far too late. Creon lost his son, wife, his kingdom, and even his will to live. This is the journey of a tragic character. Creon insists that Polyneices...is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him; he shall lie on the plain, unburied ( Scene 1. Line 29.). Considering Creon is extremely stubborn, his ego keeps him from receiving any advice that anyone tries to tell him. My voice is the one voice giving orders in this city , says Creon. He is too prideful to listen to anyone because he believes it ll destroy his pride. Prophet Teiresias has an intimate discussion with him and he warns Creon a good man yields when he knows his course is wrong. The only crime is pride ( Scene 5. Line 35). In the exodus, line 138, Creon states, Fate has brought all my pride to a thought of dust. The Representation of Male and Female Characters in Two Comedies Situation comedies as a whole are a conservative representation of life mainly due to the fact they are screened at prime family times and want as large an audience as possible so try not to be too controversial. This means they very rarely challenge the status quo and re enforce stereotypes. I am looking at how male and female characters are represented and whether the way they are represented challenges the stereotypes associated with gender differences. This however simply supports the stereotype that women are sex objects. In the Friends title sequence the man are portrayed doing macho poses whereas the women are seen doing much more girly poses like playing with umbrellas which does little to promote the idea women are no longer jus pretty objects. A huge drive for those protesting for women s liberation was equal rights in the work place, there should be just as many women in high up jobs as men. Whether this is true or not in reality is debateable, but what jobs males and females have in popular sitcoms sends out a clear message to those watching. Mankind has always tried to achieve this state of well being even though there isn t a clear definition. In modern society, there is a simple road that most people follow to achieve happiness: earning enough money for education, getting a university degree, a prestigious and high paying job, and a stable marriage. Today the little ones warble the Singing Commercials. (27). Commercials that seduce children are many, but not all of them are aimed at children. For example, in some of the Coca Cola commercials that are shown in warm climates, there is a hot weather and a person who is discomfortable with the heat is shown drinking a cold bottle of Coca Cola. Then the camera zooms in and shows how Coca Cola not only quenched their thirst, but also freshened them up. Here, the aim is associating hot weather with Coca Cola. African American culture in the United States has evolved continuously throughout United States history carrying on various cultural traditions of African ethnic groups brought here during slavery. The U.S. Census Bureau defines African Americans as a person having origins in any of the Black race groups of Africa. [1]. African American culture is derived chiefly from people originated from sub Saharan and Sahelian cultures in Africa. Over hundreds of years, black culture has partially been assimilated into western ideals in America. However, despite the persistent persecutions of slave culture , the African influences brought here has evolved and continues to be relevant through Black American artwork, literature, musical production, cuisines, and language still present in their societies. • 20. Is English Native Speakers Use A Greater Number Of... Discussion The results of the analysis suggest that English native speakers use a greater number of singular self mention in linguistics research articles than scholars affiliated with Ukrainian universities, who avoid using them completely and rely on plural forms. This confirms the previous findings that primarily plural self mention is employed in academic writing in Slavic languages (Vassileva, 1998), and that academic texts in English by native speakers show the greatest use of singular forms in comparison to other languages (Flottum, 2005; Molino, 2010; Vassileva, 1998; Wu Zhu, 2014; Yakhontova, 2002; 2006). It can be assumed that, in American academic culture, scholars tend to establish their presence in the articles and show that research has been carried out exclusively by them and that the method and interpretations of findings are based on their own judgement. This way they might acknowledge the fact that although research should be an objective presentation of reality, it is still subjective because it is interpreted and documented by a researcher. In addition, since Americans are representatives of an individualistic culture, they might be willing to identify their personal contributions to the discourse. In contrast, Ukrainians writing in Ukrainian seem to distance or even remove themselves from the texts by using impersonal forms and plural self mention. • 22. Analysis Of The Movie The Return Of Martin Guerre The role of Bertrande de Rols in the film The Return of Martin Guerre is a firm representation of the way in which women of this time subscribed to clear gender norms. She was a dutiful wife who stayed behind while her husband went off to war and to travel the world. She was willing to submit to him (or Arnaud, the man who ended up being an imposter of Martin) and settle down to have children upon his return. And when it came time to stand up him, she played her role in that process too (even though it wasn t her husband for whom she was initially testifying). She doesn t have the leeway in which to create her own path in life, and seems to constantly bend to the whim of others. Bertrande is the quintessential example of how women throughout history kept the home fires burning while their men explored the world, and then were forced to take back whatever iterations of their mates they got back (which in this case, wasn t even the same man). To say that Bertrande was likely initially underwhelmed with Martin s return would be putting it mildly. Historians that have studied this period in French history for women surmise that Bertrande likely enjoyed the freedom of making her own decisions (Lewis 65). In fact, in her book The Wife of Martin Guerre, author Janet Lewis envisages an existence for Bertrande that speaks to just how much she likely enjoyed the freedom of being her own person when Martin first went away. At the same time, she was clearly vilified for it. Of this, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Western Artistic Tradition By Stephen Owen The Western artistic tradition is limited to normative operations of representing reality through mimesis while the Chinese were concerned with its hermeneutics. The Great Preface to the Book of Songs claims that what a poem is consists in its articulation of inner intent (zhi 志). More importantly, Stephen Owen points out that this zhi is something of an intense and involuntary fixture on reality. With this in mind, Guo Xi echoes the words of the ancients by noting that a poem is a painting without form and a painting is a poem with form. However, one can go even further by speculating that human interpretations of reality call for a necessary mediation by form before they can be organized into language. Thus, there is an immediate crossing over of spatial boundaries in the process of perceiving reality, internalizing it, and manifesting it through a painting. Su Shi s notion of immediate reaction complements the idea of zhi as involuntarily manifested, concerning a spontaneous movement of the essence of reality from Nature to the human heart mind and finally into the painting. The implication of this process is twofold, the first one being that the painter displaces an essential Truth from the external world onto the silk scroll which says something about the world in which man dwells. The second is that what the painting (including the process of painting) does is mediate a necessary association between humans and the external world. The literati of Northern Song ... The Negro Artist And The Racial Mountain By Langston Hughes The Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain is a short essay written for The Nation Magazine by the poet Langston Hughes, it quickly became a manifesto for the Harlem Renaissance. The Racial Mountain , is the racial struggles that black Americans face in all areas, but with a particular focus on art. It explores issues of standardisation and a form of cultural identity crisis with black artists in America who rather than accepting themselves with a cultural pride, try to emulate the white Americans. Hughes asserts that black artists should stop trying to copy whites as they will never create anything great that way. Instead they should draw from black culture and express it through art with pride. He uses an unidentified promising young black poet to affirm these views, one day this poet told him I want to be a poet not a Negro poet . • 32. Analysis of the Homeless Family in America High Risk Families: Statistical and Theoretical Analysis of the Homeless Family in America Introduction While homelessness may be an issue that is so far from the minds of the average American family, the truth remains that the current homelessness statistics in America suggest that the issue of homelessness is far more average than one could ever imagine. As of January 2012, The National Alliance to End Homelessness published a series of reports that listed the number of homeless Americans at 636,017 with a rate of homelessness at 21 homeless people per 10,000 individuals in the general population (NAEH, 2012, pp.1). While 636,017 may seem small in comparison to the country s 311,291,917 citizens, homelessness remains an issue that stems through the ages, through families, through neighborhoods, through ethnicity and the like. Homelessness detrimentally effects families in their health, mortality rate, and ability to seek out employment and basic education. In further viewing the statistics at hand regarding the homeless, their health and behavior, as well as understanding how these people and this issue can be remedied within our country, an overarching assessment of family life and the causes and relief measures of homelessness must be taken into account. Health Profile and Behavioral Patterns Homelessness has long been associated with health risks and poor behavioral patterns based solely on the inability to purchase sufficient care. • 33. Dichotomy In The Outsiders Have your feelings ever lead you to believe that you did not belong? Feeling such as those are elegantly portrayed in S.E. Hinton s fictional novel The Outsiders by multiple characters in groups in the book. These include the social classes, Ponyboy Curtis, and lastly Johnny Cade. When a person s mind tells them they are different, than they can be classified as an outsider, which means that feeling of being original is all in the mind. To begin, an outsider is someone who seems left out, whether it is an opinion of themselves or that of others. In The Outsiders, two social classes; greasers and Socs show that outsiders can be both inside and outside groups. They also show the role of dichotomy in discrimination. A character named Cherry Valance is an outsider among the Socs yet she is a part of that group. We aren t the same class. she had said to Ponyboy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socs in the book are explained as cool to the point of not feeling anything (38). Conclusively, Cherry may be a part of the Socs but is an outsider from them. Her relationship with Ponyboy shows that Socs and greasers dichotomy only seems to be. Secondly, the main character in the novel, Ponyboy Curtis displays the role of an outsider by differentiating it from the term individual. Ponyboy is only a part of the gang because of his brothers. I was a tagalong and a kid he had said Soda always took me when they went places (9). Even though his siblings had brought Ponyboy to the gang, they still accepted him, even though he was younger, and felt differently about certain things. His differences is classified him as an individual as well as an outsider. In summary, it is important to realize the difference between the concept of individuality from being outsider. • 34. Essay On Hume s Views On Miracles Hume s View of Miracles Much of Hume s audience, both when it wrote it and in contemporary times, is religious, or at least surrounded by a culture that is largely religious. As such, Hume spends Section X of An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding discussing miracles. Miracles are contradictory with his empiricist worldview, so he devotes the chapter to arguing why we should not believe in them. Hume defines a miracle as a violation of the laws of nature. 1 That is, a miracle departs from our uniform experience of what we are used to witnessing in nature. (If it were just a normal event, then we would not notice it as a special event, a miracle.)2 Our Belief in Miracles Hume lays the groundwork by saying that our commitment to our beliefs should be proportionate to the quality of evidence that supports that belief.3 Given any two conflicting beliefs, we should choose the belief that has the highest probability. For example, if there were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, while there is evidence for miracles in the form of testimony, the uniform experience of natural laws trumps testimony. Because no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, we have a uniform experience against every miraculous event. 12 In other words, whenever there is a miraculous claim, an actual miracle has the lowest probability of being true, while any naturalistic explanation has a higher probability of being true, because a naturalistic explanation fits with our uniform experience. Therefore, Hume concludes that uniform experience amounts to a proof. . . against the existence of any miracle, meaning that we can rest assured that all miraculous claims are ... • 35. The Importance Of Attention Autism In Special Schools This action research project takes place in a primary special school. The school caters for 96 children with a range of complex learning difficulties, across 3 sites, 2 of which are based within mainstream schools. In 2010 I became aware of the Attention Autism approach after attending a masters residential weekend at Birmingham University where I attended a presentation by Gina Davies (Davies, 2010a). Following this I attended the Day 1 and Day 2 training days (Davies 2010b) and Gina supported the setup of Attention Autism across the Key Stage 1 classes of the school. There was an immediate benefit seen across the school with a significant rise in PSHE attention attainment. The year before the implementation saw 77% of pupils across the school ... Bellon, Ogletree and Harn (2000) used similar strategies to promote spontaneous language in a child with autism: pausing; adapting language complexity and expanding on the child s own utterances. Across the school everyone is much more aware of the use of language that is appropriate to a child s needs. However, we identified times when it is appropriate to give children time to watch something, and provide them with key words that naturally describe what is happening. A discussion occurred around the importance of not always using this strategy and at many points throughout the school day immersing children in a range of language ... • 36. Jay-Z s From The Frying Pan Into The Fire Hip hop is a culture created by people who felt that some aspects of the culture of capitalism did not fit them. Hip hop was able to give them a form of expression, a means of earning and a better representation for themselves. In Jay Z s essay One Eye Open , Jay Z shares his account, as a pioneer of the genre itself, of how hip hop started to gain its popularity and standing back when he was a young child and how it provides the people means to support their needs. In her essay From the Frying Pan into the Fire , Arlie Russell Hochschild shares what does it take to create a culture, she focused on how the capitalist economic system became a culture itself instead of supporting one. Although hip hop may have started out as an opposition to some of the values of capitalism, a lot of aspects of the hip hop culture thrive from the capitalist economy, it just follows a different set of rules. Even though many might think that hip hop is a form of art and that capitalism is an economic system, that is not all that they are, they can also be identified as cultural systems. A culture is created when groups of people start to have unique social patterns, like their own food, cloth, language and what not. Another way a culture is created is through rituals and an ideology that a group of people start following. The culture of capitalism was created through the anxieties to which it poses itself as a necessary answer (Hochschild 145). For this reason, what used to be just an ... • 37. Muslim Women Essay The American media has a tendency to portray Muslims in a negative light. Some pity Muslims while others feel pure disdain for them. This statement made by Ann Coulter (2001) following the September 11th terrorist attacks demonstrates the disdain for Muslims, We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). While this particular statement was directed at all Muslims, there are also many misconceptions directed solely at Muslim women. In this essay, I will discuss the issue of Muslim women and some of the ways in which their reality contradicts the common media representations of women in that area. The first common media representation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second common assumption of the Muslim women is that they are forced into marriage. While it is true that arranged marriages do still take place in the Muslim world, the marriages are not forced upon anyone (Ahmed, 1999). Before an arranged marriage takes place, parents and older relatives discuss different possible matches, but the person, for whom they are searching a mate, is always involved in the discussions (Ahmed, 1999). Then before the marriage can take place, both future spouses must agree to the marriage in front of witnesses (Ahmed, 1999). A third common media stereotype of Muslim women is that their sole purpose is to please their husbands. Geraldine Brooks author of the book, Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women wrote that Muslim women are expected to sacrifice their comfort and freedom to service the requirements of male sexuality; either to repress or stimulate the male sex urge (as cited in Arab American National Museum, 2011). This stereotype is heightened by the fact that Islam allows polygamy. While Islam does allow men to take four wives, it is only advised that they do so under extreme circumstances (Ahmed, 1999). In fact, the Quran recommends that one wife is best because one who marries multiple wives must treat all of them completely equal and that is a difficult task (Ahmed, 1999). • 39. Rise Of Fascism Student Professor Course Date Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end of the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascism is, and always will be, inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany. The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist, expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy and raised living standards.
