HR and the Competiton for Talent Essay
In today s competitive workforce, talent is not only incremental, but also scarce. War for talent, a term
coined by Steven Hankin of McKinsey Company, refers to the competitive landscape of talent
management of skilled and valuable employees. Talent management is defined as the implementation
of integrated strategies or systems designed to increase workplace productivity by developing
improved processes for attracting, developing, retaining and utilizing people with the required skills
and aptitude to meet current and future business needs (Lockwood, 2006). This paper talks about the
challenges faced by organizations and how organizations use strategic HR to overcome concerns
regarding attraction, recruitment and retention of talented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Telecommuting programs are also aided with the arrangement of appropriate technology, which makes
working from home easier. As one of the large scaled companies Deloitte and the Westpac Group
understand the challenges associated with employee satisfaction. Both of these companies improved
their IT and Information and Communication Technology structure respectively by providing their
staff with the appropriate technology to carry out tasks from the comfort of their homes. Westpac
allows applicable employees the option to work from home and telecommute, this is mutually
sustainable with the company philosophy that acts a vital contributor to attract lateral hires (Deloitte,
2013). Not only did Deloitte and Westpac recognize that in order for their telecommuting program to
work they needed to provide the staff with the right tools to do the job efficiently and compliantly,
they were also able to connect to a wider range of their staff. Empirical research conducted by Deloitte
shows that to Only 62% of employees without access to flexible IT policies report feeling satisfied at
work. Up to 83% of employees with access to flexible IT policies (such as social media access) report
feeling satisfied at work (Deloitte, 2013). Telecommuting plays a substantially large role in the
strategic HR department, which includes employee satisfaction. A categorical and strategic plan that

Ganymede Jewelry Essay

Midterm Project
Ganymede Jewelry
My God, am I such a jewelry fanatic! I knew as soon as I saw jewelry I had to write about it. Jewelry
is something women and men but mostly women tend to adorn themselves with to either show stature,
beauty or just to feel special about themselves. The Jewelry gives a lot of details on where it was made
and the interesting designs on the necklace and earrings. Also, because it s made of real gold and
silver any women would be honored to wear such an amazing work of art. The Ganymede Jewelry
was found in Macedonia near the area of Thessaloniki before 1913 and the jewelry pieces date back to
being formed 330 300 B.C. They date back to the Hellenistic Greek period. Hellenistic period starts
from the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. to the conquest of Ptolemaic Egypt. This time
period Greek cultural power was at the top in Europe, Africa and Asia. It experienced an influx of arts,
literature, architecture, math, science and etc. The jewelry was made by Leochares in the beginning
for the fourth century B.C. The Hellenistic Jewelry was made in current day Greece. The Ganymede
Jewelry consists of earrings, necklace, pins, bracelets and a ring. But it s not sure if they all go
together. The neckless is shown to take on the look of ivy or grape leaf and have a border of beaded
wire and a rosette in the center. Many places like Asia Minor, around the Black Sea area, southern
Italy have known to have strap neckless,

Difference Between Command Economy And Free Market Economy
INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW The major difference between command economy and free market
economy is the degree of government intervention and the reliance of market to determine prices
(Cherunilam, 2009). Command market is the system in which the market is centrally controlled and
regulated by the government; free market economy is the system demand and supply determine the
market prices and regulations. However, mixed economy is a combination of Command and Free
market economy (Bogolib, 2013); the market price is determined by demand and supply but the
government intervenes to ensure stability and economic growth. This intervention has a major impact
in the position of an economy in the business cycle. This report evaluates the advantages and
disadvantages of England being a mixed economy, and shows how the government intervenes in the
market. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The essay is fo ENGLAND S MIXED ECONOMY With mixed
economy there is always a variation to the degree of government intervention in different countries. In
England, where the mixed economy is utilized, there is a strong presence of both the private and
public sector. For instance, the grocery sector is controlled by the market; However resources are
allocated in the health sector by the government (Higson, 2011). Although there is a distinct private
sector, the system allows the government to exert control over the operations of businesses in the
private sector to achieve economic balance and stability (Barras,

Analysis Of The Poem The Wife Of King Midas
Mrs Midas Critical Commentary
The poem, Mrs Midas is written from the perspective of the wife of King Midas; a character from
Ovid s Metamorphoses . In the myth, King Midas was granted a wish where everything he touched
turned to gold. Mrs Midas is part of a tradition of the feminist revisionist writing of mythology and
fair tales. Duffy trivialises the myth by transplanting it to a modern, middle class, suburban setting. In
the poem, Duffy uses a wide range of literary devices and conveys a large array of emotions which
help to bring out the central themes of the poem.
In stanza one Duffy depicts a conventional, middle class domestic setting; where the speaker, Mrs
Midas is cooking vegetables and begins to unwind with a glass of wine . The quote, glass of wine
emphasises the middle class, suburban setting and highlights revisionist element of the poem. Duffy
writes stanzas one retrospectively, It was late September . Duffy uses this quote to set the scene but
more importantly to indicate the fact that the event has already happened. This conveys the idea that
the poem is being told as a story. In stanza one Duffy personifies the kitchen, with the line, its steamy
breath gently blanching the windows . The quote emphasises that the kitchen is coming to life. Also
the use of the simile, like a brow helps to convey the kitchen as a living thing. The word gently is used
by Duffy to contrast the frenzied events which unfold later on in the poem. Furthermore,

There are a few key aspects of dairy farming that need to be monitored carefully or result in unwanted
outcomes. This includes the voltage on the fences around the farm, the temperature of the milk that is
in the vat and the activity of the water pump. A constant monitoring system of these three important
farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application will be designed to
incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the required voltage on them
this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be difficult to monitor as
currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester. The milk temperature is
required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk company to ensure it is safe for
human consumption. This is done through using chiller machines as if the milk does not reach this
temperature in time the entire vat full of milk must be disposed of which causes a loss of income for

Designing The Fashion Industry ( Mcalpine 14 )
According to scratchhard.com, the fashion industry generates an average of $20 billion each year.
Fashion designers are the heart of the fashion world. Designing is a form of art that is translated into
clothing. Inspiration for the designs comes from trends, art, culture, places, and the media. Fashion
designers create ideas which they turn into clothing to sell. The first step of designing is researching
current fashion trends and predicting future trends. Trends determine the success of the fashion
industry (McAlpine 14). Designers choose a speciality to design. Swimwear, bridal wear, children s
clothing, footwear, and men s wear are a few examples of design categories. Sketching the original

Fashion designers can create apparel for numerous people or for a select few. Haute couture designers
create clothes specifically for a customer. One outfit could cost thousands of dollars. Ready to wear
designs are produced in large numbers but sold at high prices. Mass produced clothing is constructed
in large numbers and sold at reasonable prices. This is where most designers work. Boutique designers
work alone or in groups to create their own designs and find outlets to sell their clothing. In 2012,
twenty five percent of the designers were self employed. Large apparel companies usually consist of a
team of designers headed by a creative manager. Very few designers work for high fashion brands.
High fashion designers earn the most money and are the most well known. Many different outlets of
design are available as career options (McAlpine 14).
Formal education fro fashion designers is not required, but it is recommended. Preparing to become a
fashion designer can start in high school by taking art, home economics, math, and chemistry (Morkes
324). When an employer is seeking to hire a designer, a person with a fashion degree, an impressive
portfolio, and experience or an internship will be the most likely to receive the job. Many universities
offer various degrees pertaining to fashion. Baylor University in Waco, Texas is one of the top twenty
schools for

What Role Did The Power Play In The Battle Of Hastings
William became Duke of Normandy at age eight when his father died; however, people questioned his
power of authority because his parents were not technically married. This empowerment brought upon
many issues early on. Nevertheless, the battles started when William was agreed under the table to
succeed as the next of King of England. With no witnesses or documentation proving this agreement,
Harold Earl of Essex took reign after King Edward s death. This power move infuriated William,
which created tension and provoked William. In1066, William and his troops set sail to invade
England. William was not the only man promised to succeed King Edward; therefore, King Harold
had many people after him because he was named the throne. Harald Hardrada, king ... Show more

The Saxon army was made up of the house carles, the king s bodyguard. They fought on foot with
axes. They wore coats of chain mail called hauberks. Kite shaped shields protected them (Lambert).
Whereas, the Norman army was much more up to date. Norman knights fought on horseback. They
wore chain mail and carried kite shaped shields. They fought with lances, swords and mace (Lambert).
The battle of Hastings was the first of many battles for the William. In the famous Battle of Hastings
both Harold and his brother were killed; therefore, William the crowned himself king. His conquest of
power did not stop there. William marched into several other countries including Scotland and France
with intentions to win authority. He continued conquering lands surrounding England and distributed a
portion to Norman followers. This was when William developed the feudal system, which gave
Barons authority under the King s rule. The Baron s then split their land up giving sections to Knights
who rented their land out to serfs. This idea of feudal allowed William to have control over these
manors. The Barons and Knights were indebted to the King for their military services. The serfs were

Renewable Energy Policies Operating At The Level Of The...
The world today, as we know it, acknowledges the impact of the carbon emission on the surrounding
environment with devastating effects such as global warming, rise of the ocean levels and destruction
of animal and vegetal life. Therefore, it started shifting towards more green sources of energy such as
renewable energy, ones that are more sustainable and more friendly to the environment. European
Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one of the key players at the
global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and constantly advocates for
more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The aim of this essay is to analyse the three main
renewable energy policies operating at the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing that
figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to generate over its
service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per kilowatt hour. Now, tack
on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff had been obtained. This
approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different renewables technologies (solar,
wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example a big wind farm will undoubtedly
produce more energy than the power collected from a certain amount of solar rooftops. With offering
different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can ensure the economic viability of the various
applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for large projects.
1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be
combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). Currently prevailing
incentive schemes (such as trade in tariffs) for renewable energy might not be in line with
liberalisation of international energy markets. A good example might be the disadvantage that an
operator which is situated near a greater renewable energy potential area, having to accept all the

Feminization Of Poverty And Poverty
Feminization of Poverty
Poverty is an issue that is faced by multitudes of people around the world. Poverty itself is defined as,
the state of being poor (Merriam Webster). According to Sara S. McLanahan, of Princeton University,
In the United States, poverty is defined as not having enough income to pay for basic needs, such as
food, clothing and shelter. Poverty is a family attribute. In other words, if a family is classified as
poor, all the members of that family are also poor (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in
2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau,
2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male
poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2).
Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta,
2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda Parr, director of the Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth,
women are poorer than men (Fukuda Parr, 1999, p. 99). Feminization of poverty is defined as, A
societal level process over time in which the poor are increasingly made up of women and children
(Eshleman, 2010, p. 588). According to Lauren Abbate of Mount Holyoke College, Feminization of
poverty is the phenomenon in which women experience poverty at rates that are disproportionately
high in comparison to men (Abbate, 2010). It appears that,

The Debate Over Global Warming
Everyone has their own thoughts about global warming, it s not real or it s too late for humans to fix
the issue, the list goes on. The global warming debate would not be so heated if it didn t involve
politics and it just reverted back to simple science. With many people looking to blame someone or
something it s hard for politics and science not to collide. Below i will focus on how politics are
lacking in effort to stop global warming between the huge oil companies having more influence over
the government, to no laws being enforced. Everyday we can read or hear about climate change and
how it s affected our world and us. New solutions are made up everyday but all have a common factor,
they cost big bucks or in the end will cost someone their money. The immense cost and dramatic
changes to our everyday lives like transportation and energy is something you can t change overnight
and needs to be passed by the government before making any serious changes. This is where you ll see
politics get involved. You then you have the other half of people who think it s just mother nature,
because the earth has been known to have climate changes naturally over thousands of years, this is
where science comes in. Some of these people disagree on making any new changes to human life as
we know it. Climate change is not only a touchy subject for most but it is very touchy in what
influences these unnatural or possibly natural changes. As we drive our vehicles to work, joy rides to

The Debate Over Bilingual Education and Immersion Programs
In recent years, the debate over whether bilingual education or immersion programs (such as English
for Speakers of Other Languages) better serve the needs of limited English proficient (LEP) students
in the United States has been heating up. The increasing need for such services insights passionate
supporters and opposition to rise up against one another in the fight over which is better. Advocates of

A Little History Lesson
Bilingual education is not new. Contrary to popular belief, bilingual education programs were not
products of the 1960s. In fact, they aren t even products of the twentieth century. The first state to
actually pass a bilingual education law was Ohio, in 1839 (History of Bilingual Education, 1998). The
law was for German English bilingual education, and was passed as a result of a strong parental
initiative. By the end of the nineteenth century, about a dozen states had passed similar laws, and in
many other states such instruction was offered, although it had not been sanctioned by the state.
During the World War One era, however, as the loyalty of non English speaking Americans came
increasingly under suspicion, many states decided to enact English only instruction, in an attempt to
Americanize non English speakers. As a result, during the 1920s the bilingual education program had
been almost completely dismantled.
In response to the apparent failure of English only instruction, the United States government passed
the Bilingual Education Act in 1968, providing federal funds to local school districts, in an attempt to
promote the incorporation of native language instruction into school curricula. The government felt
that, leaving LEP students to sink or swim in English only classrooms made a mockery of public
education (History of Bilingual Education, 1998). Recognizing the civil rights of LEP students to have

How China Is Achieving Its Significant Economic Growth by...
1. Introduction The remarkable triumph of the Chinese economy
According to World Bank (2010), China s gross domestic production (GDP) reached as much as
$5,930,529,470,799 in 2010, when for the first time China ranked the second in the world following
the United States and surpassed Japan, and has been maintain the ranking in the following years with
larger gap outperforming Japan. Moreover, the annual growth rate of China s GDP has averaged over
9 percent in the last 3 decades (World Bank, 2010), with no other country having achieved such rapid
developmental success as China in the world (Turin, 2010). As the country with the largest population
in the world, China has lifted 300 million of its citizen out of poverty (Ramo, 2004), attributed to 67%
of the total reduction of global poverty during the last 25 years (People s Daily, 2008; Turin, 2010),
and people living at less than $1 a day has sharply declined to 13.4% in 2003 and further to 8% in
2009 from 60% in 1980 (Sahoo, Dash Nataraj, 2010). China s dramatic rapid economic growth has
been a miracle of in the world. Reflecting the notion that as one of the most significant emerging
economies, the world centre may be shifted to China, thus a couple of research studies have turned

Why America Is A Great Nation
Why do I believe America is a great nation? America s greatness comes from our freedom, our people,
and our First Amendment Rights of religion, speech, press and assembly. Freedom is an inalienable
right that many people of the U.S. take for granted. Our civil rights are part of our freedom. People
that invade upon our rights are punished. The severity of this punishment depends upon how harshly
our rights are violated. And, although freedom doesn t come with guarantees of a perfect life, we are
all free to choose our own destinies. America is the greatest most powerful country in the world, not
just because of our army but because of the values of our people. (President Barrack Obama,2014,

Catholic Explanation Of Scripture
The Catholic approach attempts to find the truth by the interpretation and explanation of Scripture
includes three exegetical methodologies which are: reading, interpreting, and understanding.
Specifically, exegesis takes into account a thorough critical analysis of the meaning of biblical
scriptures in terms of their historical and literary context. These methods play a role and contribute to
our understanding of Scripture and this includes: 1) ideological criticism, is the examination of bias,
assumption, or strongly held beliefs which may influence biases; 2) literary criticism, which focuses
on context of the written text including the author, language, time it was written, genre, plot,
characters and symbolism; 3) sociohistorical criticism, explores the conditions of life (i.e. geography,
customs, traditions, religious practices, cultures, social norms, and family life. For example,
ideological and sociohistorical criticism is evidenced in the letter to the Ephesians about morality of
slavery. This letter reflects the time it was written as slavery was accepted and considered to be the
norm in those days. However, the author suggests to the Ephesians that they should be imitators of

Italian Ambiguity
rthermore, the word companion is highly ambiguous as well. In Italian, as in English, companion
means a person you spend a lot of time with often because you are friends or because you are
travelling together ( http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/companion ) but the producer
here wanted to link the word to the drugs, so he or she changed the ordinary meaning of companion
and put the word into inverted commas. By doing this he or she crated ambiguity: who should the
reader abandon, the drugs or the people? What is more, in the light of the semantic and visual

Why should it be preferred to the black, since the existence of good depends on the existence of bad,
and that of white on black? What if we put those teenagers in the upper part, and the couple below? It
would be odd, since the Italian Health Ministry would encourage people to take drugs, but we can go
one step further. What if we put those smiling, happy, well dressed couples down, in the drug taking
part, and instead the marginalized teenagers up? Probably it would still look odd, since the Italian
government, which acts from the white perspective, would warn people not to take drugs (but the
people portrayed do not look like druggie so bad companions to be abandoned, do they? They are still
white, well dressed, good looking people) and at the same time it would encourage the reader/receiver
to get engaged and create families, by showing multi ethnical couples. This is the shift of the meaning
that would probably be perceived, but as the image clearly shows this is not the case. The black is still
bad, the white is still good. The reader/receiver is here exposed to one of the current form of racial

Analysis Of Catherine Maria Sedgwick s The Scarlett...
Comparing Catherine Maria Sedgwick s Hope Leslie or Early Times in Massachusetts and Nathaniel
Hawthorne s The Scarlett Letter is interesting because at first glance both novels don t appear to have
much in common. However, despite obvious differences between both novels such as the character
presentation of the female protagonists in Hope Leslie, who range from the free spirited Hope Leslie,
obedient Puritan Esther, and Magawisca as a noble but proud Native American contrasts with Hester
Prynne s presentation as a shamed but deeply contemplative woman in The Scarlett Letter. The
different purposes all these characters each serve in their respective stories begins to show
commonality in that Hope Leslie s Hope, Esther, and Magawisca and The Scarlett Letter s Hester
Prynne all have to overcome the adversity and social expectations within their Puritan society so that
they can do what they feel is right by relying on their feelings, intelligence, and inner strength. By
examining how characters such as Hope Leslie and Hester Prynne overcome the challenges they face
in their respective Puritan societies, it will be easier to discover how both novels presentations of their
female protagonist illustrates the gender politics of each text. Both Hope Leslie and Hester Prynne
defy the Puritan authority to do what they feel is morally right in the face of judgment and opposition.

not go with me? I think not, said he. It is just the other way around. You are going with me. I pointed
the revolver at his belly and shot him down. Over the course of this passage, Mattie s confidence

this was the whole point of the journey; it still reveals development in her character. In the beginning,
she expected Rooster to shoot Tom Chaney but now Mattie had become ready to kill her father s

3 Artwork Analysis
Presentation of 3 Artworks Introduction Art is created and enjoyed by various individuals across the
world for different reasons. An Artwork expands and extends our shared visual language and helps in
developing new ways of seeing familiar things (Tomaž 29 32). It also assists in interpreting events and
new situations through different perspectives. The values and focus of artwork in the new world are
finding their footing and taking completely new directions. In the new world, there are echoes of
artistic movement and postmodern tradition that is mainly considering originality over a technicality
when it comes to artwork (Sooful 2). Today, especially with improved technology, artists have
designed new artistic skills that facilitate them to develop an artwork that is highly skillful and unique
at the same time. The field of artistic has greatly expounded and has accommodated individuals with
varying skills that have significantly improved the artwork (Sooful 5). Here are the top 3 ... Show

From a distance, the golden fish as portrayed by Fukahori were alive swirling and swimming within

incredible. The golden fish have been painted on multiple layers revealing more details about the fish

concept of three dimensions and an illusion aspect that makes the goldfish appear alive and swimming

Acquisition Process Of The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected...
The military did not deploy the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle using a rapid
acquisition process which delayed fielding of MRAPs and should not be repeated for critical needs.
Three primary processes drive the current Department of Defense (DoD) Major Defense Acquisition
Programs. They are requirements, acquisition, and funding. The requirements approval process within
the existing Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) was the greatest factor in
the MRAP delay. The MRAP is a V shaped hull vehicle designed early 1960s with additional armor to
protect against surface mines and explosives. The elevated chassis and V shaped hull caused the blast
to disperse away from the vehicle protecting the crew. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is less time to validate the requirement and determine if there are better alternatives to achieve
the same capability. The current JCIDS process focuses typically on future requirements so rapid
acquisition programs are disruptive of future acquisition programs. Current joint urgent operational
needs require separate approval, acquisition, and funding processes and funding is limited and
restricted for rapid acquisition programs. Between the time the military conducted initial MRAP tests
and the initial approval in 2006, the military was transitioning away from the original Requirements
Generation System (RGS) to the current JCIDS. Requirements from the field through each service
branch drove the RGS process resulting in standalone solutions to specific threats often not
considering non material alternatives. JCIDS provides systematic, integrated and interoperable
material and non material solutions to capability needs. JCIDS determines requirements from the top
and develops joint solutions with long term sustainment plans. The JROC is the final approving
authority within JCIDS before passing the requirement to the acquisition process. During this
transition the JROC membership remained unchanged, but they did change from last to first approving
authority in the major defense acquisition program process. This

Tomato Plant
TOMATO PLANT 1)
Seed: Tomato seeds are small, flat and disk shaped and about 1/8 inch wide. They contain two energy
storage organs called cotyledons and an embryo encased in a hard outer shell called the seed coat. The
seed is the dormant or resting stage of the plant life cycle. When young tomato plants are damaged,
they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed for a while. Frost
damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the season. Frost damage is
marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. Although they won t kill the plant, frostbites will
make them dormant for a while, delaying plant growth. During the germination process, the seed

They have their own definite shape and arrangement in plants according to their requirements. Leaves
trap energy from sunlight and convert it into pure compounds. For this the leaves are arranged on the
stem in a way that they are exposed mostly in the sunlight. i) Leaves help in the process of plant
cellular respiration. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or
light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. Since the process
of photosynthesis produces more oxygen than the plant can use, the excess is released into the air
through the stomata, tiny air holes in the leaves. The plant takes its sugars directly from what is being
produced by photosynthesis. 5) Food Making: j) Photosynthesis: the process of producing and
releasing oxygen in the air. Photosynthesis is performed by the plants to produce their own food. The
process of Photosynthesis requires direct sunlight, carbon dioxide and water (H2O). In the process of
Photosynthesis, the plants decompose the molecules of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into hydrogen,
carbon and oxygen to produce glucose which forms the source of their energy, growth and food. This
involves the conversion of stored energy of the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into glucose which
is an organic compound and release oxygen in the process. k) Importance of photosynthesis: Plants are
the only living things that produce their own food.

Perils Of Knowledge In Frankenstein
The Perils of Knowledge Ever since man stepped foot on Earth, the search for knowledge has been
neverending. Within the past few centuries, man reached new heights never before dreamed of when it
came to information and inventions. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein embodies this quest for intellect.
Victor Frankenstein, the main character, sets off on a journey to acquire as much education as
possible, but by doing so ends up creating a shockwave of various effects. Thus, Frankenstein displays
how the obsessive pursuit of and acquirement of knowledge leads to extraordinary accomplishments,
such as new technology and inventions. However, at the same time, this impulse spurs nefarious
actions and consequences. Victor Frankenstein is the first character in the novel. His life starts in a
wealthy and noble family and after some time decides to attend the University of Ingolstadt to study
sciences. Victor becomes so obsessed with his studies that the stars often appeared in the light of
morning whilst I was yet engaged in my laboratory , (30). Studying night and day, Victor eventually
made some discoveries in the improvement of some chemical instruments , a contribution that
undoubtedly led to improvements in the science and medical aspects of the 19th century (31).
However, the main focus of Victor s compulsive studies comes later in the novel when he creates the
creature. He grasped for the idea of creating a living human frame from scratch: a concept that had

The Controversy of Deforestation Essay
The Controversy of Deforestation
Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the human race.
There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious
resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have
global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that
species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used
everyday form many useful resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of
available light, nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of the

To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate
economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to human
economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a
good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and
just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend
the other resource that comes from trees money . Studies show that 70% of the products that we use a
day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and count all the items that
are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans
and other species would never be able to survive.
Another pro argument of deforestation is the issue of fuel wood in rural areas. The use of fuel wood in
the growing cities contrasts strictly with the more familiar patterns of rural areas. The growth of
energy used in rural household still dominates the energy budgets of many developing countries,
especially in the poorer countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Most fuel wood is
used in the household. The concept of an energy transition, however, is central to any understanding
energy in urban areas. As

approaches are outlined.

Schizophrenia: A Review of Treatment and Interventions
The American Psychiatric Association [APA] (2013) defines schizophrenia as a debilitating psychotic
disorder that involves delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic
behaviors and negative symptoms. Beidel, Frueh Hersen (2014) explain that schizophrenia impairs
social functioning especially in areas that relate to daily living; this includes maintaining social
relationships and intellectual functioning. Positive symptoms (e.g. hallucinations), negative symptoms
(e.g. social withdrawal), cognitive impairment (e.g. memory problems), and mood related issues (e.g.
anxiety) are most common in individuals who are diagnosed with schizophrenia (Beidel, Frueh
Herson, 2014, p.166).
Different interventions to treat schizophrenia have been explored. There is no specific treatment that
has proven to reduce symptoms definitively. Individualized treatments along with psychosocial
models have yielded positive results in the reduction of psychosis. The use of

Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology
9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the scientific
study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior in animals
and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect to the general
impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists, whether or not
survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological grounding of the
mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of sociobiology accuses it of
justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology supports the belief that people
of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter skin. Additionally, opponents
suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only continues the injustices. In reality,
sociobiology really does not support this interpretation. Biological inclinations contain what many
would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate between them and to emphasize the more
appropriate is the task of social reflection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this book because of familiarity with one of the authors, Roy Vickers. I have long admired this artists
work. I have had the opportunity to visit his gallery in Tofino, B.C. and learn about the authors art and
life. His use of vibrant colors was considered out of the box when I grew up. He pushed the
boundaries and grabbed people s attention and for that I admired him. I can easily identify his
paintings which the non artist in me enjoys. He has struggled through hardship and addiction and
continues to be valuable member to his community and our country. Despite receiving numerous
accolades, for his work, he appears to remain humble and continues on his mission to share and tell
stories. Roy Henry Vickers, has a First Nation heritage of Tsimshian, Haida and Heiltsuk giving
authenticity to this story and imagery.

Andrew, who taught him to read and write. Subsequently, when mistaken for the prince, Tom denied
this identity, to the point where everyone in the castle believed he had gone insane. Eventually, after
the true prince, Edward, had made his way back to the castle, Tom wasted no time in letting everyone

What Does The Cleft Mean
Angela Carter once said, But you have no silver linings without a cloud. This quote was certainly true
for the servant girl named Kaali in the short story The Cleft by Prajwal Parajuly. Though all the insults
and negative gestures aimed toward Kaali may seem destructive but those insults have actually helped
her develop perseverance, resilience, and self confidence. Without those insults, Kaali would have had
a harder time developing these essential qualities. Throughout Kaali s life, she has learned to
persevere through all the hard times people give her. You wash plates like a blind woman just today I
had to rewash three plates and you mop like a baby. Parvati said on page four of The Cleft. Even

Difference Between Command Economy And Free Market Economy INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW The major difference between command economy and free market economy is the degree of government intervention and the reliance of market to determine prices (Cherunilam, 2009). Command market is the system in which the market is centrally controlled and regulated by the government; free market economy is the system demand and supply determine the market prices and regulations. However, mixed economy is a combination of Command and Free market economy (Bogolib, 2013); the market price is determined by demand and supply but the government intervenes to ensure stability and economic growth. This intervention has a major impact in the position of an economy in the business cycle. This report evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of England being a mixed economy, and shows how the government intervenes in the market. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The essay is fo ENGLAND S MIXED ECONOMY With mixed economy there is always a variation to the degree of government intervention in different countries. • 5. Analysis Of The Poem The Wife Of King Midas Mrs Midas Critical Commentary The poem, Mrs Midas is written from the perspective of the wife of King Midas; a character from Ovid s Metamorphoses . In the myth, King Midas was granted a wish where everything he touched turned to gold. Mrs Midas is part of a tradition of the feminist revisionist writing of mythology and fair tales. Duffy trivialises the myth by transplanting it to a modern, middle class, suburban setting. In the poem, Duffy uses a wide range of literary devices and conveys a large array of emotions which help to bring out the central themes of the poem. In stanza one Duffy depicts a conventional, middle class domestic setting; where the speaker, Mrs Midas is cooking vegetables and begins to unwind with a glass of wine . The quote, glass of wine emphasises the middle class, suburban setting and highlights revisionist element of the poem. Duffy writes stanzas one retrospectively, It was late September . Duffy uses this quote to set the scene but more importantly to indicate the fact that the event has already happened. This conveys the idea that the poem is being told as a story. In stanza one Duffy personifies the kitchen, with the line, its steamy breath gently blanching the windows . The quote emphasises that the kitchen is coming to life. Also the use of the simile, like a brow helps to convey the kitchen as a living thing. The word gently is used by Duffy to contrast the frenzied events which unfold later on in the poem. A constant monitoring system of these three important farming aspects could improve farm profitability. A mobile phone application will be designed to incorporate monitoring of these three activities. If the fences do not have the required voltage on them this can result in animals escaping and injuring themselves. This can be difficult to monitor as currently to do this you are required to be on the farm using a fence tester. The milk temperature is required to be below 7 degrees Celsius within 3 hours by the milk company to ensure it is safe for human consumption. With no witnesses or documentation proving this agreement, Harold Earl of Essex took reign after King Edward s death. This power move infuriated William, which created tension and provoked William. The world today, as we know it, acknowledges the impact of the carbon emission on the surrounding environment with devastating effects such as global warming, rise of the ocean levels and destruction of animal and vegetal life. Therefore, it started shifting towards more green sources of energy such as renewable energy, ones that are more sustainable and more friendly to the environment. European Union, one of the most advanced democratic models of our time, is one of the key players at the global level which understands the need for this change in perspective and constantly advocates for more elaborate policies and joined plans of action. The feed in tariffs could be explained simply by taking the cost of a particular system, dividing that figure by the number of kilowatt/hours that the system can reasonably be expected to generate over its service life (generally 20 years), and the result is the cost of that system per kilowatt hour. Now, tack on whatever return on investment (ROI) is desired, and a feed in tariff had been obtained. This approach allows a distinction to be made not only between different renewables technologies (solar, wind, etc), but also between different system sizes. As an example a big wind farm will undoubtedly produce more energy than the power collected from a certain amount of solar rooftops. With offering different feed in tariffs for various system sizes, one can ensure the economic viability of the various applications, thereby preventing windfall profits for large projects. 1.2. Secondly, in the coming decades, the trend of liberalising energy markets will have to be combined with ambitious environmental goals within the European Union (EU). Currently prevailing incentive schemes (such as trade in tariffs) for renewable energy might not be in line with liberalisation of international energy markets. A good example might be the disadvantage that an operator which is situated near a greater renewable energy potential area, having to accept all the renewable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words, if a family is classified as poor, all the members of that family are also poor (McLanahan, n.d.). The U.S. Census Bureau, in 2013 shows, there were 45.3 million people in poverty just in the United States (U.S Census Bureau, 2013). From those living in poverty, in the same year, the ratio of the female poverty rate to the male poverty rate was 1.2 women were 20 percent more likely to be poor than men (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Also, of all people categorized as in poverty in 2011, approximately 56 percent were women (Mykyta, 2013, p. 2). Sakiko Fukuda Parr, director of the Human Development Report, portrays a simple truth, women are poorer than men (Fukuda Parr, 1999, p. 99). Feminization of poverty is defined as, A societal level process over time in which the poor are increasingly made up of women and children (Eshleman, 2010, p. 588). • 11. The Debate Over Global Warming Everyone has their own thoughts about global warming, it s not real or it s too late for humans to fix the issue, the list goes on. The global warming debate would not be so heated if it didn t involve politics and it just reverted back to simple science. With many people looking to blame someone or something it s hard for politics and science not to collide. Below i will focus on how politics are lacking in effort to stop global warming between the huge oil companies having more influence over the government, to no laws being enforced. Everyday we can read or hear about climate change and how it s affected our world and us. New solutions are made up everyday but all have a common factor, they cost big bucks or in the end will cost someone their money. The immense cost and dramatic changes to our everyday lives like transportation and energy is something you can t change overnight and needs to be passed by the government before making any serious changes. This is where you ll see politics get involved. You then you have the other half of people who think it s just mother nature, because the earth has been known to have climate changes naturally over thousands of years, this is where science comes in. Some of these people disagree on making any new changes to human life as we know it. Climate change is not only a touchy subject for most but it is very touchy in what influences these unnatural or possibly natural changes. As we drive our vehicles to work, joy rides to the ... Contrary to popular belief, bilingual education programs were not products of the 1960s. In fact, they aren t even products of the twentieth century. The first state to actually pass a bilingual education law was Ohio, in 1839 (History of Bilingual Education, 1998). The law was for German English bilingual education, and was passed as a result of a strong parental initiative. By the end of the nineteenth century, about a dozen states had passed similar laws, and in many other states such instruction was offered, although it had not been sanctioned by the state. During the World War One era, however, as the loyalty of non English speaking Americans came increasingly under suspicion, many states decided to enact English only instruction, in an attempt to Americanize non English speakers. As a result, during the 1920s the bilingual education program had been almost completely dismantled. In response to the apparent failure of English only instruction, the United States government passed the Bilingual Education Act in 1968, providing federal funds to local school districts, in an attempt to promote the incorporation of native language instruction into school curricula. The government felt that, leaving LEP students to sink or swim in English only classrooms made a mockery of public education (History of Bilingual Education, 1998). Comparing Catherine Maria Sedgwick s Hope Leslie or Early Times in Massachusetts and Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlett Letter is interesting because at first glance both novels don t appear to have much in common. However, despite obvious differences between both novels such as the character presentation of the female protagonists in Hope Leslie, who range from the free spirited Hope Leslie, obedient Puritan Esther, and Magawisca as a noble but proud Native American contrasts with Hester Prynne s presentation as a shamed but deeply contemplative woman in The Scarlett Letter. A review of psychosocial models, antipsychotic interventions and social cognition approaches are outlined. Keywords: Schizophrenia, social cognition, antipsychotic medication, psychosis, treatment Schizophrenia: A Review of Treatment and Interventions The American Psychiatric Association [APA] (2013) defines schizophrenia as a debilitating psychotic disorder that involves delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behaviors and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms (e.g. hallucinations), negative symptoms (e.g. social withdrawal), cognitive impairment (e.g. memory problems), and mood related issues (e.g. anxiety) are most common in individuals who are diagnosed with schizophrenia (Beidel, Frueh Herson, 2014, p.166). • 34. Impact Of Sociobiology On Theology 9. Discuss sociobiology and its possible impacts on theology. (10 points) Sociobiology is the scientific study of the biological (especially ecological and evolutionary) aspects of social behavior in animals and humans. The implications of sociobiology for theology are developed with respect to the general impact of basic evolutionary ideas, the reductionist assumptions of sociobiologists, whether or not survival can be a value, and more holistic accounts of the physical and biological grounding of the mental and spiritual lives of human beings. An often heard criticism of sociobiology accuses it of justifying existing injustices. For example, opponents say sociobiology supports the belief that people of darker skin color are intellectually inferior to those with lighter skin. Additionally, opponents suggest that following what sociobiology says is human nature only continues the injustices. In reality, sociobiology really does not support this interpretation. Biological inclinations contain what many would consider both altruistic and evil. To discriminate between them and to emphasize the more appropriate is the task of social reflection. ... Peacocke also points to ethical codes not being uniform. Sometimes the ethical codes oppose what biology would require leaving these ethical codes as inadequate where they encounter biology. Thus, morality cannot really be thought of as being produced mechanically by biology. Orca Chief By Roy Henry Vickers And Robert Budd Essay I have chosen to select the book Orca Chief by Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd as an Aboriginal education resource for teaching in a Grade 4 classroom. I located this narrative text in the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) Authentic First Peoples Resources Guide. I choose this book because of familiarity with one of the authors, Roy Vickers. I have long admired this artists work. I have had the opportunity to visit his gallery in Tofino, B.C. and learn about the authors art and life. His use of vibrant colors was considered out of the box when I grew up. He pushed the boundaries and grabbed people s attention and for that I admired him. I can easily identify his paintings which the non artist in me enjoys. He has struggled through hardship and addiction and continues to be valuable member to his community and our country. Despite receiving numerous accolades, for his work, he appears to remain humble and continues on his mission to share and tell stories. Roy Henry Vickers, has a First Nation heritage of Tsimshian, Haida and Heiltsuk giving authenticity to this story and imagery. This forty page, hardcover text includes short paragraphs on the left page and vibrant illustrations of coastal life by Roy Vickers on the right pages, except for a large picture covering pages 25 and 26.
