Strengths And Weaknesses Of Boomers
Communication Weaknesses
Boomers
Each generation s weakness is a subset of their communication preferences and strengths. Boomers
preferred method of communication necessitates multiple meetings, which can be rather time
consuming for other employees of a company. Boomers have also grown accustomed to email, and are
less likely to keep up with current technology trends. As of January 2017, new trends have signaled
the decline of email in the workplace, according to Laurie Beaver of Business Intelligence: informal
and engaging social networking apps are convenient, easy to use, and fast (2017). They may also take
longer to get feedback to people, because it is in their nature to take their time to provide thorough and
complete feedback. With older methods of communication on the decline, and new technologies
emerging, Boomers need to avoid the obsolescence of their current skill set by following new trends in
information technologies.
Gen X
Again, this generation inhabits a space between two very different generations, one which moves at a
steady pace, and one which constantly adjusts to the newest trends. Gen X lies somewhere in the
middle, where they rely on techniques they re comfortable with, without growing complacent.
Members of Generation X, according to De La Torre, grew up more skeptical of authority and rules,
placing high value on independence and flexibility (De La Torre, 2016). Communication with Gen
Xers needs to focus on meeting that preference, otherwise it will be inefficient. Work tends to run on
their own schedule, which can slow down internal processes and result in conservative deadlines to
allow scheduling discrepancies (Perine, 2012). Efficient time use both complements and conflicts with
setting a schedule independently: when focused, Gen Xers can increase productivity and accomplish
high volumes of work; when distracted, they inhibit their teams and decrease overall productivity.
Millennials
The same traits which make Millennials an asset to a company can also make them a liability.
Millennials prefer brief, frequent communications with their colleagues, which can interrupt others
work and cause distraction. Because of the frequency of those exchanges, this generation often leave

Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer
Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a
common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more
comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone
through the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into
insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person s mind because
of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community making it an essential part of a humanhood. By
definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique
individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am a black feminist... I recognize that my power as well as my primary obsessions come as a result
of my blackness as well as my womaness, and therefore my struggles on both of these fronts are
inseparable ... As a woman of color, I find that some feminists don t seem terribly concerned with the
issues unique to women of color the ongoing effects of racism and post colonialism, the status of
women in the Third World, working against the trenchant archetypes black women are forced into
(angry black woman, mammy, hottentot, and the like). (Gay 173).
Gay sees herself as an intersection of the black, woman, and feminist communities, making her a
hybrid of the three, giving her a distinct community to identify with as well as broader groups. She
identifies as a woman and acknowledges all of the expectations and stereotypes that accompanies. On
the other hand, her fundamental views on gender equality gives her the ability to empathize with the
feminist community. Nevertheless, in every group of people, everyone is a distinct individual with a
distinct number of characteristics, both physical and emotional, that sets them apart from the person
next to them. As a woman of color, Gay has a list of additional concerns and interests that pertains to
her specific experience that are not necessarily included throughout the entire group of feminists. Gay
could be branched off into dozens of more sects and factions that pertain to specific

Social Aspects And Roles Of Medieval Merchants In The...
Merchants in the middle ages were business people who participated in retail and trade. The term
merchant comes from the Latin term mercer which means trafficking and from the French term
mercies which means wares. Thus, the medieval merchant was seen as both a trader and trafficker of
wares across countries. The middle ages merchant sourced for his products during his travels and
would then sell them in markets and shops or at fairs.
Medieval society divided itself between three societal categories that included the clergy, the peasants
and the fighters. Merchants were not considered as part of these three categorizations and were largely
discriminated against. The clergy, the peasants and the nobility considered the merchant as one who
was seeking to enrich himself at the expense of society. Meanwhile this same society increasingly
depended on merchants for the distribution of much needed goods.
In the early emergence of the merchant class, the clergy was vehemently opposed to merchant
activities such as banking and trading. The clergy convinced the community that these activities were
evil and against God s will. As such, people would blame the merchants for natural catastrophes
including disease, floods or famine as a punishment to the community from God.
Notably, the nobility were particularly disdainful of the merchants who, in the eyes of the nobility,
were perceived as misers. The nobility s behavior was in contrast to that of the merchants; the

The Pros And Cons Of Gerrymandered States
Gerrymandering, the process where politicians get to choose their voters. Say there is a state with a
population of fifty, now three fifths of that state are democratic and the other two fifths are republican,
now we need to separate this state into five congressional districts. The best way to do this would be
so there are two republican representatives and three democratic. However with gerrymandering
democrats can draw districts that are unfair and they get all five representatives, but if republicans
draw the districts they can draw them were there are three republican representatives and only two
democratic representatives. This process is seen through many states. In North Carolina forty four
percent of voters voted democratic, however thanks to a creative congressional map, seventy seven
percent of representatives were republican. The twelfth district in North Carolina is considered the
most gerrymandered district in the country, and is home to two more of the top ten gerrymandered
districts. Republicans rule six of the most Gerrymandered states, including North Carolina, Louisiana,
Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Alabama. The other four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These three heroic people made a difference in world by breaking many barriers that people would see
racist or not humanly and make a risk for it. Jackie Robinson acted heroically because he changed

Acromegaly Autism
Gigantism is a condition characterized by excessive growth and height, particularly targeting the
person s appendages. Gigantism is also known as acromegaly if the condition persists into adulthood.
The prefix acro means extremity while the suffix megaly means enlargement. Normal amounts of
growth hormone are secreted by the pituitary gland using the negative feedback system. Dealing with
endocrinology, gigantism is primarily caused by a tumor growth on the pituitary gland (Wisse, 2015).
This creates a surplus of the human growth hormone typically secreted during puberty. If left
untreated, the persons affected can expect a lowered life span. Despite the abnormal height and
elongated appendages, the person s affected can expect to be self sufficient. ... Show more content on

Surgery offers the best chance of a cure. A neuro endocrinologist is needed to properly diagnose the
condition while a neurosurgeon is needed to perform the surgery. Since the pituitary gland sits inferior
to the hypothalamus of the brain, precision in microsurgery is highly necessary. Unfortunately,
pituitary adenomas that invade the sella turcica of the brain lower the chances of a successful surgery.
Undergoing surgery is always a risk, but this treatment provides the best chances for survival.
Medications are also offered as a course of treatment, although proven with a lower success rate.
Physicians prescribe monthly injections of somatostatin to help suppress the overproduction of the
growth hormone. Although this poses less of a risk than surgery, a reported 70% of patients had an
actual decrease in GH hormone. A consequence of using this method is a heavy reliance on drugs for
an unforeseeable amount of time. Drugs are often costly so this can pose a problem as well. Radiation
therapy is used when all other options have failed. A dose of radiation is targeted on the tumor and the
surrounding brain structures are typically left unaffected. 18 months are needed to see a substantial
reduction in growth hormone output. Consequences of radiation treatment are delayed pituitary
failure, learning disabilities, obesity, and emotional changes (Kleinberg,

Affordable Care Act and the Effect on the Economy Essay
Affordable Care Act and the effect on the economy The Affordable Care Act, also called Obama Care,
was signed into law by president Barrack Obama, on March 23, 2010 (Erickson, Scott 1). What
exactly is the Affordable Care Act? It was a legislation that addressed the idea that all Americans
should have access to affordable health care. The act was passed only after intense political battles in
Congress, and as the legislation lingers through installment enhancements there is a great deal of
doubt developing.
Many were faulted into believing that the health care reform would create 4 million jobs and nearly
480,000 jobs immediately (Democratic Policy Communications Center). However, multiple
economists have viewed these statistics as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, many businesses will be forced to hire part time or seasonal employees instead of fulltime.
According to many economists, this bill raises many questions as to why jobs will be eliminated along
with reduced wages and hours. According to the Congressional Budget office, this law will reduce the
amount of labor used in the economy by nearly half (The Budget). This is because many businesses
would prefer to hire part time employees or seasonal in order to bypass benefiting the worker. If a
company hires full time employers they will qualify for health benefits, which will result in higher
expenses for the owner, cutting wages and forgoing new hires. An example of this expenditure lies
within the fast food giant stating, The mandate eat up roughly 55 percent of its yearly net income after
2014 (Eaton, Sabrina). As a result of the Congressional Budget Law, White Castle will struggle to
keep their business established.
Critics analyze the Affordable Care Mandate gives businesses an incentive to cut hours and wages. A
report released questioning business owners about the mandate. David Bridal, a business owner

He insists the mandate will tax his business more than before.

the emperor. The most prized type, Mediterranean red coral, corallium rubrum, reached China via the

Essay On The Story Of A Short Story
In a small village called Rabbitville, there was a community of rabbits that worked together, cherished
each other and loved the environment. Everyday day little Jack Daniel would go to the community
carrot mine and harvest just enough carrots to keep his family sustained. The people of this town tried
to keep the carrot mine a secret from the outside rabbit cities, because of how precious the mine was.
It was also Jack Daniel s great great grandfather that had started this mine and Jack would do anything
to preserve the mine that has sustained the people for generations.
The next day Jack, while he was gathering carrots, he saw the rebel of Rabbitville, Colonel Rabbit
Tail, a greedy old army general. He was talking to a stranger that was holding a camera, Jack then
slowly crept forward toward them to listen to their conversation. As he crept towards them, he heard
Colonel say, Look at our amazing mine that we have built and is ready to provide for many more
rabbits. Jack was shocked that Colonel has betrayed our community trust, sell us out for money, and
sacrifice our future. He then hopped back to his house and exclaimed to his parents,
Colonel Rabbit tail has, spread the news of the carrot mine! What shall we do?
Jack s father calmly said, That filthy old rabbit is out of his mind, but son we cannot do anything
about it. Jack was furious and adamant that he must do something to stop the colonel. Many days had
passed and not much change had taken place in Rabbitville. Then one day while Jack was flipping
through the channels he saw the announcement that the colonel made on the news and he knew the
inevitable is coming. After a few days, the Colonel s plan had been put into action, he had started to
build tall buildings that could fit many people. The days after people came by storm and moved into
these buildings. Which had increased the demand for more buildings which by this point has taken
over 50% of Rabbitville. Rabbitville was officially placed on the map.
News then goes around telling of a carrot feast to celebrate the finding of the mine. To prepare for the
feast the people had started to mine and drill at an exponential and alarming rate. Every day Jack

The Reluctant Security Guard Essay
The Reluctant Security Guard
Companies in today s society are often required to abide by an abundant amount of rules and
regulations imposed upon them which stem from government and law enforcement authority. In
analyzing the Case of The Reluctant Security Guard we will examine the decision making process
which led to David Tuff effectively whistle blowing for what he felt was the right thing to do.
The policy that was in place for David Tuff was ultimately an oath he subscribed to when he became a
security guard, as well as his integrity of being a former U.S. Marine. He was required to abide by the
Security Officer s Manual, which included obeying the rules and regulations of the Superintendent of
Police. There is no ambiguity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are the reasons for whistle blowing in line with reasons everyone can act upon in principle alone?
Tuff met with two other security guards regarding the overall issues, they concurred with him that they
too had grievances against the company policies. This act promotes the concept of universalizability,
and how it can be applied to the moral dilemma that Tuff faced. He now had people on his side, this
allowed him to gain emotional momentum which led him to speaking to the press shortly after he met
with his co workers. As far as reversibility applies to this examination, we could deduce that Tuff felt
that his actions would be just in that it would apply to him if the table was turned and he was an
innocent bystander waiting to bit hit by a drunk driver. Reversibility leads us to challenge the amount
of moral worth in the sense of duty that Tuff had to his oath, and to society. There is no doubt Tuff felt
that his duties as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a sworn in security guard outweighed the conduct
and vision of the policy makers at the Blue Mountain Company.
An argument can be made that whistle blowing should only be warranted when there is a group or a
majority that feels something should be brought to the attention of an outside authority if deemed so.
As discussed in the study the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) determined that since his
actions were not a concerted effort among him and his colleagues, the

United States Economic Financial Crisis
Throughout the years, different events occurred and influenced the global economy positively or
negatively. For example, the oil crisis in the 70s negatively affected the economy just as bad as the
Gulf War did in 1990. On the other side, the end of other wars had a positive effect on the economy,
for example World War 2, which boosted the stock market and ended the Great Depression. When
multiple negative effects occur at the same time, or when crises last for a long time allowing other
negative effects to surface, crises tend to last longer and prevent a pick up in growth.
The current economic financial crisis was indeed caused by the simultaneous occurrence of events in
different parts of the world that all had a negative effect. These events are subtly different and
therefore it is common that only one event is held responsible for the crisis. In reality, the world
economy became critical due to the mix of four major events: 1) the unrestrained greed of financiers
in the U.S. and U.K., which transformed bad mortgages into toxic financial assets 2) the habit of
getting deeply indebted in the U.S. and U.K., 3) the excessive liquidity in Europe, 4) the real estate
bubble in the U.S. and some European countries (Thomas, 2011) At the beginning of the financial
collapse in the United States, many commentators, among which was the President of the Federal
Reserve, hastily affirmed that the situation would only affect the United States and at most, the UK,

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized In Australia Essay
Imagine if your love was a crime. Imagine if the world frowned upon it; deemed it illegal. We live in a
land of equality; is letting heterosexual couples but not homosexual couples get married equal?
Criminalizing gay marriage is a form of discrimination. Homosexual couples have just as much of a
right to pledge their love as straight couples do. Gay marriage should be legalized in Australia, and
there are several strong reasons why this has to occur.
It will foster acceptance of gay couples and individuals, as well as completely eliminating the negative
impact marriage inequality has on the health and wellbeing of same sex attracted people, and increase
the amount of children successfully adopted.
Legalizing gay marriage will change the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
72% of Australians believe that same sex couples should be allowed to marry and 80% of Australian
same sex couples would marry if they had the choice. When the evidence and statistics speak this
clearly, what reason could there possibly be to criminalize homosexuality and the union of a couple?
There are no downsides, only benefits and equal opportunity.
Another reason gay marriage should be legalized in Australia is because it supports the psychological,
physical, and social wellbeing amongst homosexuals. Studies have found that people who identify as
homosexual face up to twice as much abuse (including physical, mental, sexual or emotional) than
their heterosexual counterparts. This prejudice and discrimination adds to biological, social,
environmental and psychological factors which can lead to depression and anxiety.
9% of adult men and 15% of women in Australia report same sex sex attraction or having sexual
contact with someone of the same sex, although only 7% identify as lesbian or gay. Of these 1.6

Political Orthodoxy In Animal Farm By George Orwell
George Orwell, author of 1984, Animal Farm, and a number of other works, was rightly concerned
with the state of the world and its direction. He outlined his concerns in the book 1984. In the
fictional, yet all too real world of 1984, political orthodoxy is required and ensured through the use of
mass surveillance. Any person found to be harboring unorthodox sentiments is vaporized. They are
detained and ultimately executed. But before that they are wiped from the record in a manner similar
to the purges performed by Joseph Stalin. By wiping the vaporized person from the only record, the
Party s record, they are removed from history and essentially existence. All of this is justified by an
eternal war. Eternal in that Oceania has always been at war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

All this would be less of a problem if the NSLs did as they said were to do, prevent terrorism. But in
reality, few NSLs result in convictions of terrorists. The FBI issued 192,499 NSLs between 2003 and
2006 ( Surveillance Under the Patriot Act 1). Of that amount, one led to a terrorist conviction (
Surveillance Under the Patriot Act 1). Based off of this data, NSLs are not being used in a manner that
is preventing terrorism. Instead, they are being used to obtain large amounts of information on
innocent people. In response to nine NSLs issued, the phone records of 11,000 people were given to
the FBI ( Surveillance Under the Patriot Act 1). Scaling that ratio up to the 192,499 NSLs previously
mentioned, that s over 237 million people. Even halving that ratio still means the phone records of
over 118 million people are handed over to the FBI without the judiciary involved, without them
committing a crime. The American government knows who you talk to just like Big Brother and the
government of Oceania. Not only are NSLs being used to collect large amounts of information, they

Analysis Of The Sum Of Our Follies
The Sum of Our Follies (2014) is a recent Malaysian fictional work written by Shih Li Kow. It is a
regional piece a addressing the most conspicuous thrillers of place s meaning and literary imagination.
The story hinges upon several episodes in a small town called Lubok Sayong and other replaces.
Furthermore, the plot includes a number of perennial actions which perpetuate the token of proximity
shared by the lives of Lubok Sayong s inhabitants who reciprocate their visions in an agnate
perspective on life. It is an inherent call for the common sense of human individuality in a collective
place uniting different ways of life. These people are the authentic human phenomenon in a fictional
setting. In fact, the story depicts real life images, such as contemporary Malaysian peripheries; and
challenged once again by socio cultural apathy, the specter of the story s fictional pluralism and the
affectionate buoyancy of Shih Li Kow who seems particularly instructive (Cross, 2006: 49).
The novel tells the story of a middle aged man called Auyong, or the narrator, and an orphan girl Mary
Anne. Auyong leaves his city and job as a supermarket manger in order to work in the town s lychee
canning factory. This circulates his destitution as a human being seeking perfection ... Show more

European Exploration Essay
What is now called the European Exploration is a period in the sixteenth and seventeenth century
when explores went out to search for new land and trading routes. Factors such as economic, political,

Black Death. The Black Death was a bubonic plague cause by the spread of bacteria. The plague
killed up to 30 to 60 percent of Europe s population. After the Black Death Europe experienced a

In 718 to 1492 there was a battle between the Christian Kingdoms and the Muslim Moors for control
of the Iberian Peninsula. The Christian Reconquista brought passion and energy to Europe and
encouraged them to continue the Christian crusade. Oversees exploration was the main way to reach
the non Christian territories. In addition, eagerness for exploration was increased by a lack of
opportunity at home. Due to the Reconquista, many Spanish men of the upper classes found their
opportunities greatly limited. The men looked to the sea for advanced fortunes. None of these voyages
would be able to be taken place if not for the government, who funded all of them. The Spanish
monarchy was stronger than previously so it was in a place to be able to support foreign endeavors.
Monarchies had many motivations to expand one of them including, being able to profit from trade.
Also monarchies had the desire to please God, which would be fulfilled by exploring new lands and
converting them to Christianity. Finally, the competition between the monarchies and Protestant and
Catholic states was an important factor in the steady stream of expedition. The European age of

which they will be the lightweight champions of the world, and together they help each other train

value of friendship. Finally, the story s theme is relayed through the final actions of the boys. During
the fight, both are focused on winning the match. Each attacks the other with full force. The fight
becomes so violent that the referee has to pull them apart. After cold water is poured on both of them,
they start to come back to reality. When they realize what has happened to them, they rush toward
each other and hug. Afterwards, the bell rings to announce the winner of the fight, but when the
announcer looks around to identify the victor, no one is there. The boys leave the ring arm in arm. The
reason they leave is that they realize that winning is not what is most important to them. What they
really care about is their friendship. Piri finalizes his theme through the ultimate actions of the boys. In

Reflection About Identity
Identity is very difficult to fully comprehend, but it is vital to the purpose of every man, woman, and
child that has lived and ever will live on the earth. As precisely expressed by Erik Erikson, In the
social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity. As
defined by Merriam Webster, identity is The distinguishing character or personality of an individual.
However, this definition falls short of the true meaning of the word, as it does not openly state the
deciding factor for the perception of a person s identity. For this reason, it is necessary to redefine the
word in order to properly convey its meaning to those that do not fully understand it, as well as clarify
by whom it is ascertained. Identity is how one perceives oneself, based primarily on the behaviors
exhibited by this person.
A more precise definition of identity could not have been taught to me any better than by my first
venture from the state of Iowa to the valley town of Estes Park, Colorado. For a reason I still do not
understand in its entirety, it brought me to better understand myself by truly comprehending in what
esteem I hold myself, and perhaps what I one day strive to achieve. The novelty and charm of the
place were greatest the first time I experienced it, and I felt an indescribable sense of peace that
unfortunately did not entirely carry forward in future years. After driving through what seemed like
the most featureless mass of land in the

Oedipus The King Vs Jocasta Essay
Plays are meant to be watched not just to be read. A play by definition is a dramatic performance. Do
you realize there are many more benefits to watching plays rather than reading plays? Watching plays
keep all the characters in the storyline, permits you to see emotions and heightens your experiences.
When you watch a play the audience is aware of all the characters weather they have speaking lines or
not. When reading a play the reader loses characters that do not show up on the page as they have no
speaking lines. The characters have a presence on stage interacting with the other characters even
without dialogue. Characters may use body language without words to convey meanings. As seen in

The Haut Glacier D Arolla
Introduction
A model is a representation of reality, designed to generate outputs from inputs in an attempt to
understand system behaviour (Jones and Gomez, 2010). Many geographers refer to a model by the
classic definition from Kolars and Haggett, 1967: a simplified version of reality, built in order to
demonstrate certain of the properties of reality . Models are often known as analogies which is a
relationship of similarity between two things, a likeness in some function, effect, or circumstance
(Andrews, 1987). Analogue models are only one distinguished in physical geography. Conceptual,
physical and mathematical models are also used (Jones and Gomez, 2010).
Arnold et al., 1998 investigates the behaviour of the Haut Glacier d Arolla in Valais, Switzerland to
predict and explain how glacier drainage systems function. Barron and Washington, 1984, Cox et al.,
2000 and Gildor and Tziperman, 2001 all used a form of climate models. Barron and Washington,
1984 aimed to explore past climatic change, by investigating the surface temperature sensitivity by
comparing present and cretaceous simulations. Similarly, Gildor and Tziperman, 2001 used a
conceptual box model to investigate past climate change, based on oscillations of climate systems.
Cox et al., 2000 also used a climate model, however focussed on future climatic change, rather than
past. The final paper, by Burt and Butcher, 1986 uses a simple rainfall run off model to explore the
hillslope run off system.

The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th...
The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella Young
Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or
activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not
healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an
incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In
the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness
the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned
that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated
with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder
of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been
multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th
century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the
positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still
influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree
of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When
someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed.
The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012).
Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe
disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is
because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of
themselves, physically or financially. Also, they might not be able to provide for their family the way
they use to before acquiring the disability. A person that have acquired a severe disability might

How Isolation Affects The Behavior Of Different Animals
Different species occur when the genes in the animal mutate overtime. This changes the appearance
and the behaviour of the now slightly different animal. Eventually these traits will make them change
and evolve to their environment. This can happen when separation isolates them this also prevents the
different animals interbreeding. Eventually this isolates the two different species that were once one.
Isolation and separation can occur by geographical barriers such as oceans, rivers, mountain ranges or
climatic barriers like rainfall, temperature, sunlight, ocean currents. For example birds must have all
come from one set of the same breed. This means that budgerigars are related to eagles. They are only
different because of the environment and the amount of accessible food and water. For instance the
eagles are bigger than the budgies because eagles don t fly in flocks to make them self look big
however budgies do need to, to protect themselves. This is a survival trait that has developed and
evolved over the generations.

Discourse Analysis Of Van Debama
This paper is an attempt to do a critical discourse analysis of Obama`s speech On Countering Violent
Religious Extremism delivered on 18 February 2015 at the White House. The analysis draws on
critical discourse theories of Van Dijk and Fairclough to analyze the speech. Obama`s choice of lexico
grammatical items was critically analyzed based on van Dijk macro level analysis to find out how
power, ideology , context and mind control manifest in the speech. The analysis shows how the social
and political construction of US counterterrorism policy is made tactfully throughout the speech and it
explores the ways in which the war on terror has been institutionalized in language. The notion of
power and mind control are used skillfully to manipulate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to van Dijk (1998: 352), Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) studies the way social power
abuse, dominance and inequality are enacted, reproduced and resisted by text and talk in the social and
political context. He identifies some of the dominant notions in CDA as power, dominance, inequality,
hegemony, ideology ,class, gender, race, discrimination , among others which he labels as macro level
of analysis . However, he posits that micro level of social order involves language use, discourse,
verbal interaction and communication. CDA, thus, tries to bridge the gap between the two micro and

My Internship With The Neurology Department
The 8th floor of the hospital was unlike any other department I had ever worked at. It was not always
busy and loud like the ER, or cheerful like pediatric. The 8th floor always felt gloomy with its dimly
lit hallways and beige colored walls. I met Mr. Peter on the first day of my internship with the
neurology department. As an intern, I was in charge of feeding patients breakfast and lunch among
other responsibilities. Unlike other patients who were not able to chew or swallow their meal properly,
Mr. Peter always finished his food with a good appetite. He used to request two orders of pancakes,
one to eat during breakfast and the other for midafternoon. Despite being blind, Mr. Peter constantly
shared colorful stories of his travels from around the world. My interest in medicine initially began
with a love for science. I was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry minor, and
I knew that I wanted to be a physician; one who not only understood the science behind medicine, but
who also knew how to connect with patients on a deeper level. As the internship at New York
Methodist progressed, I met patients who were once healthy, but were suddenly restricted to their bed,
such as the 35 year old English professor who could no longer control her bladder or bowel
movements, or the 48 year old nurse who lost her ability to chew or swallow food. Mr. Peter was
unlike these patients because he was stronger in the sense that he didn t need his food to be ground

The Importance Of Prisons In Prison
A lot of people talk about someone before they get sentenced to prison, but do not ask about what goes
on while they serve time for their actions. Criminals rights are basically revoked during their
sentencing and not given back after. Whether it is the way they are treated by prison officials, voting
while in jail or when they get let free, and the way they are treated for the religion they follow. They
are overlooked by people who have right just because they are locked up and serving time.
Have you ever asked yourself how are criminals treated while they are serving time? Well if you have
ever asked yourself this questions the answer is poorly. Criminals are treated so poorly by prison
officials. In the article Prisoner Abuse: How Different are U.S. Prisons? they discuss how prisoners are
constantly being abused by their guards. The author states in regards to the way prison inmates are
treated that, In recent years, U.S. prison inmates have been beaten with fists and batons, stomped on,
kicked, shot, stunned with electronic devices, doused with chemical sprays, choked, and slammed face
first onto concrete floors by the officers whose job it is to guard them. . This is stuff people would
usually be sent to jail for doing but because prisoners are not taken as seriously as other people it is
just overturned. This is not a good thing because it does not go by the human rights that everyone has
regardless of the mistakes they make. Officers are hired to protect inmates from

The Hero Of War In Dulce Et Decorum Est
Life can give us many choices to sacrifice ourselves but its us who have to decide our path to success.
From reading Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen (1917), he writes about men marching in a war
and one man dies. It describes how the man is dying slow with a lot of pain because he absorbs lime
which is eating the inside of his body. From reading Hero of War by Rise Against (2008), he writes
about his experience of going to war and talks about going to war makes him be proud of himself.
Through tone, mood, and imagery, Wilfred Owen is trying to convey that going to war and dying for
other people is not glory or what people makes you believe in; through tone, mood, and similes Rise
Against is trying to convey that everyone is proud of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences between these two readings is that Dulce et Decorum Est says its not honorable and
that going to war isn t glory. Whereas in Hero of War it says its worth a risk and family is proud of
you. A stylistic device that Rise used is a simile when he is about to kill the little girl he compares her
flag with snow. For example, Rise writes That the blood how had soaked she collapsed with the flag in
her hand A flag as white as snow (lines 49 51). Rise is trying to convey to the audience that how he
sees the little girl die with the flag in her hand comparing it to white snow. The significance of this
device is that he uses white to compare the flag and the snow, but also to her white skin when she is

  • 2. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Boomers Communication Weaknesses Boomers Each generation s weakness is a subset of their communication preferences and strengths. Boomers preferred method of communication necessitates multiple meetings, which can be rather time consuming for other employees of a company. Boomers have also grown accustomed to email, and are less likely to keep up with current technology trends. As of January 2017, new trends have signaled the decline of email in the workplace, according to Laurie Beaver of Business Intelligence: informal and engaging social networking apps are convenient, easy to use, and fast (2017). They may also take longer to get feedback to people, because it is in their nature to take their time to provide thorough and complete feedback. With older methods of communication on the decline, and new technologies emerging, Boomers need to avoid the obsolescence of their current skill set by following new trends in information technologies. Gen X Again, this generation inhabits a space between two very different generations, one which moves at a steady pace, and one which constantly adjusts to the newest trends. Gen X lies somewhere in the middle, where they rely on techniques they re comfortable with, without growing complacent. Members of Generation X, according to De La Torre, grew up more skeptical of authority and rules, placing high value on independence and flexibility (De La Torre, 2016). Communication with Gen Xers needs to focus on meeting that preference, otherwise it will be inefficient. Work tends to run on their own schedule, which can slow down internal processes and result in conservative deadlines to allow scheduling discrepancies (Perine, 2012). Efficient time use both complements and conflicts with setting a schedule independently: when focused, Gen Xers can increase productivity and accomplish high volumes of work; when distracted, they inhibit their teams and decrease overall productivity. Millennials The same traits which make Millennials an asset to a company can also make them a liability. Millennials prefer brief, frequent communications with their colleagues, which can interrupt others work and cause distraction. Because of the frequency of those exchanges, this generation often leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone through the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person s mind because of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community making it an essential part of a humanhood. By definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Social Aspects And Roles Of Medieval Merchants In The... Merchants in the middle ages were business people who participated in retail and trade. The term merchant comes from the Latin term mercer which means trafficking and from the French term mercies which means wares. Thus, the medieval merchant was seen as both a trader and trafficker of wares across countries. The middle ages merchant sourced for his products during his travels and would then sell them in markets and shops or at fairs. Medieval society divided itself between three societal categories that included the clergy, the peasants and the fighters. Merchants were not considered as part of these three categorizations and were largely discriminated against. The clergy, the peasants and the nobility considered the merchant as one who was seeking to enrich himself at the expense of society. Meanwhile this same society increasingly depended on merchants for the distribution of much needed goods. In the early emergence of the merchant class, the clergy was vehemently opposed to merchant activities such as banking and trading. The clergy convinced the community that these activities were evil and against God s will. As such, people would blame the merchants for natural catastrophes including disease, floods or famine as a punishment to the community from God. Notably, the nobility were particularly disdainful of the merchants who, in the eyes of the nobility, were perceived as misers. The nobility s behavior was in contrast to that of the merchants; the noblemen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Gerrymandered States Gerrymandering, the process where politicians get to choose their voters. Say there is a state with a population of fifty, now three fifths of that state are democratic and the other two fifths are republican, now we need to separate this state into five congressional districts. The best way to do this would be so there are two republican representatives and three democratic. However with gerrymandering democrats can draw districts that are unfair and they get all five representatives, but if republicans draw the districts they can draw them were there are three republican representatives and only two democratic representatives. This process is seen through many states. In North Carolina forty four percent of voters voted democratic, however thanks to a creative congressional map, seventy seven percent of representatives were republican. The twelfth district in North Carolina is considered the most gerrymandered district in the country, and is home to two more of the top ten gerrymandered districts. Gigantism is also known as acromegaly if the condition persists into adulthood. The prefix acro means extremity while the suffix megaly means enlargement. Normal amounts of growth hormone are secreted by the pituitary gland using the negative feedback system. Dealing with endocrinology, gigantism is primarily caused by a tumor growth on the pituitary gland (Wisse, 2015). This creates a surplus of the human growth hormone typically secreted during puberty. If left untreated, the persons affected can expect a lowered life span. Despite the abnormal height and elongated appendages, the person s affected can expect to be self sufficient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surgery offers the best chance of a cure. A neuro endocrinologist is needed to properly diagnose the condition while a neurosurgeon is needed to perform the surgery. Since the pituitary gland sits inferior to the hypothalamus of the brain, precision in microsurgery is highly necessary. Unfortunately, pituitary adenomas that invade the sella turcica of the brain lower the chances of a successful surgery. Undergoing surgery is always a risk, but this treatment provides the best chances for survival. Medications are also offered as a course of treatment, although proven with a lower success rate. Physicians prescribe monthly injections of somatostatin to help suppress the overproduction of the growth hormone. Although this poses less of a risk than surgery, a reported 70% of patients had an actual decrease in GH hormone. A consequence of using this method is a heavy reliance on drugs for an unforeseeable amount of time. Drugs are often costly so this can pose a problem as well. Radiation therapy is used when all other options have failed. A dose of radiation is targeted on the tumor and the surrounding brain structures are typically left unaffected. 18 months are needed to see a substantial reduction in growth hormone output. Consequences of radiation treatment are delayed pituitary failure, learning disabilities, obesity, and emotional changes (Kleinberg, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Affordable Care Act and the Effect on the Economy Essay Affordable Care Act and the effect on the economy The Affordable Care Act, also called Obama Care, was signed into law by president Barrack Obama, on March 23, 2010 (Erickson, Scott 1). What exactly is the Affordable Care Act? It was a legislation that addressed the idea that all Americans should have access to affordable health care. The act was passed only after intense political battles in Congress, and as the legislation lingers through installment enhancements there is a great deal of doubt developing. According to many economists, this bill raises many questions as to why jobs will be eliminated along with reduced wages and hours. This is because many businesses would prefer to hire part time employees or seasonal in order to bypass benefiting the worker. If a company hires full time employers they will qualify for health benefits, which will result in higher expenses for the owner, cutting wages and forgoing new hires. In analyzing the Case of The Reluctant Security Guard we will examine the decision making process which led to David Tuff effectively whistle blowing for what he felt was the right thing to do. The policy that was in place for David Tuff was ultimately an oath he subscribed to when he became a security guard, as well as his integrity of being a former U.S. Marine. He was required to abide by the Security Officer s Manual, which included obeying the rules and regulations of the Superintendent of Police. There is no ambiguity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are the reasons for whistle blowing in line with reasons everyone can act upon in principle alone? Tuff met with two other security guards regarding the overall issues, they concurred with him that they too had grievances against the company policies. This act promotes the concept of universalizability, and how it can be applied to the moral dilemma that Tuff faced. He now had people on his side, this allowed him to gain emotional momentum which led him to speaking to the press shortly after he met with his co workers. As far as reversibility applies to this examination, we could deduce that Tuff felt that his actions would be just in that it would apply to him if the table was turned and he was an innocent bystander waiting to bit hit by a drunk driver. Reversibility leads us to challenge the amount of moral worth in the sense of duty that Tuff had to his oath, and to society. There is no doubt Tuff felt that his duties as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a sworn in security guard outweighed the conduct and vision of the policy makers at the Blue Mountain Company. An argument can be made that whistle blowing should only be warranted when there is a group or a majority that feels something should be brought to the attention of an outside authority if deemed so. For example, the oil crisis in the 70s negatively affected the economy just as bad as the Gulf War did in 1990. On the other side, the end of other wars had a positive effect on the economy, for example World War 2, which boosted the stock market and ended the Great Depression. When multiple negative effects occur at the same time, or when crises last for a long time allowing other negative effects to surface, crises tend to last longer and prevent a pick up in growth. The current economic financial crisis was indeed caused by the simultaneous occurrence of events in different parts of the world that all had a negative effect. These events are subtly different and therefore it is common that only one event is held responsible for the crisis. In reality, the world economy became critical due to the mix of four major events: 1) the unrestrained greed of financiers in the U.S. and U.K., which transformed bad mortgages into toxic financial assets 2) the habit of getting deeply indebted in the U.S. and U.K., 3) the excessive liquidity in Europe, 4) the real estate bubble in the U.S. and some European countries (Thomas, 2011) At the beginning of the financial collapse in the United States, many commentators, among which was the President of the Federal Reserve, hastily affirmed that the situation would only affect the United States and at most, the UK, where the banks, ... Political Orthodoxy In Animal Farm By George Orwell George Orwell, author of 1984, Animal Farm, and a number of other works, was rightly concerned with the state of the world and its direction. He outlined his concerns in the book 1984. In the fictional, yet all too real world of 1984, political orthodoxy is required and ensured through the use of mass surveillance. Any person found to be harboring unorthodox sentiments is vaporized. They are detained and ultimately executed. But before that they are wiped from the record in a manner similar to the purges performed by Joseph Stalin. By wiping the vaporized person from the only record, the Party s record, they are removed from history and essentially existence. All of this is justified by an eternal war. As precisely expressed by Erik Erikson, In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity. As defined by Merriam Webster, identity is The distinguishing character or personality of an individual. However, this definition falls short of the true meaning of the word, as it does not openly state the deciding factor for the perception of a person s identity. For this reason, it is necessary to redefine the word in order to properly convey its meaning to those that do not fully understand it, as well as clarify by whom it is ascertained. Identity is how one perceives oneself, based primarily on the behaviors exhibited by this person. A more precise definition of identity could not have been taught to me any better than by my first venture from the state of Iowa to the valley town of Estes Park, Colorado. For a reason I still do not understand in its entirety, it brought me to better understand myself by truly comprehending in what esteem I hold myself, and perhaps what I one day strive to achieve. Many geographers refer to a model by the classic definition from Kolars and Haggett, 1967: a simplified version of reality, built in order to demonstrate certain of the properties of reality . Models are often known as analogies which is a relationship of similarity between two things, a likeness in some function, effect, or circumstance (Andrews, 1987). • 36. The Negative Factors Of People With Disability In The 20th... The thing about living with any disability is that you adapt; you do what works for you . Stella Young Disability is a defined as a physical or mental condition that restrain someone s movements, senses, or activities. Before the twentieth century, the negative attitude towards a person with disability were not healthy, sickening, and abnormal. For many centuries, society viewed people with disability an incompetent, not being able to help themselves. They also viewed disability as a reminder of death. In the book the psychological and social impact by Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012) on mental illness the author elaborates on how society viewed disability as a reminder of death. The author mentioned that the loss of body part or physical function constitutes the death of a part, the anxiety associated with death is rekindled at the sight of a person with disability, and that disability groups are a reminder of our mortality. Things took a turned for a changed though, in the 20th century there have been multiple changes on how society views a person with a disability. People with disability in the 20th century are more respected and are better accommodated prior to the 20th century. Despite the positive attitude towards people with disability, there are many disability related factors that still influences some negative responses to disability. Level of severity, degree of visibility, and the degree of cosmetic, are some of the disability related factors that influences response to disability. When someone have a disability, the level of severity plays an enormous role on how the person is viewed. The more severe a disability is, the more negatively it is perceived. Marini, I., Stebnicki, M. A. (2012). Many people can in fact agree to this statement. A person that have been diagnosed with a severe disability, often will feel like a burden to society, peers and even family. The reason behind this is because with a severe disability, the person that acquired the disability might not be able take care of themselves, physically or financially. • 42. My Internship With The Neurology Department The 8th floor of the hospital was unlike any other department I had ever worked at. It was not always busy and loud like the ER, or cheerful like pediatric. The 8th floor always felt gloomy with its dimly lit hallways and beige colored walls. I met Mr. Peter on the first day of my internship with the neurology department. As an intern, I was in charge of feeding patients breakfast and lunch among other responsibilities. Unlike other patients who were not able to chew or swallow their meal properly, Mr. Peter always finished his food with a good appetite. He used to request two orders of pancakes, one to eat during breakfast and the other for midafternoon. Despite being blind, Mr. Peter constantly shared colorful stories of his travels from around the world. My interest in medicine initially began with a love for science. I was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry minor, and I knew that I wanted to be a physician; one who not only understood the science behind medicine, but who also knew how to connect with patients on a deeper level. As the internship at New York Methodist progressed, I met patients who were once healthy, but were suddenly restricted to their bed, such as the 35 year old English professor who could no longer control her bladder or bowel movements, or the 48 year old nurse who lost her ability to chew or swallow food. Mr. Peter was unlike these patients because he was stronger in the sense that he didn t need his food to be ground ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Importance Of Prisons In Prison A lot of people talk about someone before they get sentenced to prison, but do not ask about what goes on while they serve time for their actions. Criminals rights are basically revoked during their sentencing and not given back after. Whether it is the way they are treated by prison officials, voting while in jail or when they get let free, and the way they are treated for the religion they follow. They are overlooked by people who have right just because they are locked up and serving time. Have you ever asked yourself how are criminals treated while they are serving time? Well if you have ever asked yourself this questions the answer is poorly. Criminals are treated so poorly by prison officials. In the article Prisoner Abuse: How Different are U.S. Prisons? they discuss how prisoners are constantly being abused by their guards. The author states in regards to the way prison inmates are treated that, In recent years, U.S. prison inmates have been beaten with fists and batons, stomped on, kicked, shot, stunned with electronic devices, doused with chemical sprays, choked, and slammed face first onto concrete floors by the officers whose job it is to guard them. . This is stuff people would usually be sent to jail for doing but because prisoners are not taken as seriously as other people it is just overturned. This is not a good thing because it does not go by the human rights that everyone has regardless of the mistakes they make. Officers are hired to protect inmates from ... • 44. The Hero Of War In Dulce Et Decorum Est Life can give us many choices to sacrifice ourselves but its us who have to decide our path to success. From reading Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen (1917), he writes about men marching in a war and one man dies. It describes how the man is dying slow with a lot of pain because he absorbs lime which is eating the inside of his body. From reading Hero of War by Rise Against (2008), he writes about his experience of going to war and talks about going to war makes him be proud of himself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The differences between these two readings is that Dulce et Decorum Est says its not honorable and that going to war isn t glory. Whereas in Hero of War it says its worth a risk and family is proud of you. A stylistic device that Rise used is a simile when he is about to kill the little girl he compares her flag with snow. For example, Rise writes That the blood how had soaked she collapsed with the flag in her hand A flag as white as snow (lines 49 51). Rise is trying to convey to the audience that how he sees the little girl die with the flag in her hand comparing it to white snow. The significance of this device is that he uses white to compare the flag and the snow, but also to her white skin when she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
