The Hockey Sweater Essay
The Quebec Vexation
The French speaking people of Quebec lived under heavy oppression in the 1950s and 60s. Many
francophone people looking for work in Quebec cities were refused because of their French
background. In areas such as Montreal, the francophone people were earning up to 50 percent less
than their English speaking peers. There was a clear distinction between the quality of life for the
English and the quality of life for the French. It was because of this distinction that the people of
Quebec often resented the English and their ways of life. And it is from this resentment, the story The
Hockey Sweater was written. The Hockey Sweater is a story told from the perspective of a young boy
living in a small town in Quebec. He, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Quebecois found that their cultures were too different to be placed on equal footing with the other
provinces. This frustration with the other provinces eventually led to The Quiet Revolution and an
attempt to separate from the rest of Canada. Up until the end of the 1960s, the French people of
Quebec could be seen living as second rate citizens in Canada. It wasn t until 1969, that the Official
Languages Act was passed by Pierre Elliot Trudeau giving both the English and French languages
equal representation in Canadian parliament. Up until then, most documents written by the Canadian
government and its affiliates were solely in English and did not recognize French as an official
language. In The Hockey Sweater, the character of Mr. Eaton can be equated to the role of the
Canadian government. The order forms provided in the Eaton s catalogue were completely in English
even though they were being shipped to a small French town in Quebec. This could be seen as the
English speaking people of Canada imposing their language and culture upon Quebec in an almost
assimilation like manner. The lack of equality with regards to the French and English language pre
1969 led to many people of Quebec feeling subservient to the rest of Canada. The language issue
played a vital role in the story of The Hockey Sweater which led to great turmoil just as it did with
Quebec s culture during the

Squaw Valley Resort Case Study
While listening to the interview of Andy Wirth with Madeline Brand with KCRW, I came to know
about the declining weather and its effects on skiing business. When Madeline asked Wirth about the
skiing business of Squaw Valley last winter, he mentioned that the slight decline of 20 percent in his
resort business. Due to the massive changes in the weather patterns in last season, snow fall and
precipitation pattern were drastically affected. As a result, Squaw Valley received less snow fall and
comparatively less visitors last winter.
Because the Squaw Valley Resort is known for offering an array of recreational opportunities for
skiers and snowboarders alike, decrease in snowfall certainly affects the business of this ski resort in
Lake Tahoe. Madeline comes up with the question based on a situation where avid skiers finding just a

Frosty the Snowman is a pop culture icon from the classic song written by Steve Edward Nelson and
Walter Jack Rollins and recorded by Gene Autry in 1950. It was later adapted into a Little Golden
Book in 1951, a black and white animation short in 1954, and a TV special in 1969. The song has been
included in various Christmas albums by popular performers for half a century. The Song After seeing
the success of Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer the year before, Nelson and Rollins wrote Frosty the

Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer
Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a
common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more
comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone
through the same triumphs or hardships. Without this feeling of belonging, one could be driven into
insanity. Anxiety due to isolation and desolation could run rampant through a person s mind because
of the loneliness that comes with a lack of community making it an essential part of a humanhood. By
definition however, community invites inimitability. Community can be defined as a group of unique
individuals with shared characteristics. From that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This model promotes a system driven by the patient s needs, and a system where the nurse can make
contributions that add to the delivery of care. Developed throughout the 1990 s, this middle range
theory was initially created with critical care nursing in mind. The AACN desired to identify concepts
of certified specialty nursing practice. (Peterson Bredow, 294). However, as will be discussed further,
this model is actually applicable to chronic health care diagnosis and management as well, which is
why it was selected for this DNP project. The AACN Synergy Model is centered around five primary
assumptions that regard healthcare providers, patients and families: 1. Patients are social,
psychological, and biological entities; the patient s body, mind, and spirit must be considered for their
particular developmental stage. 2. The nurse patient relationship is created in part by the patient,
family, and community. 3. All characteristics of the patients are contributory to one another and should
not be isolated. 4. The nurse has interrelated dimensions that form their overall profile. 5. The primary
goal of nursing is to restore the patient to a level of wellness that the patient desires. Death is
acceptable, as long as the agreed upon goal is to move a patient towards a peaceful death (AACN,

absorption of nutrients into cell?
In many cells antiporters move calcium out of the cell while sodium drifts in. This sustains the low
calcium concentration in the cytosol.

The Man Who Killed The Deer Analysis
Tradition is a big part of a cultural identity. Traditions are not loved nor understood immediately,
however with time the importance of tradition becomes evident as it makes people unique. As a kid,
serving meals every thanksgiving may feel insignificant and tedious, but as an adolescent the small
amount of time spent as a family doing something annually has a lasting impact on one s values. Frank
Waters fictional novel, The Man Who Killed the Deer, Martiniano struggles to find a faith after he
illegally kills a deer. Neither the whites not the Indians seem welcoming because he offends both by
breaking the law and not showing respect to Indian ideology. The deer continues to haunt him until he
understands the role of nature and the cycle of life. The poem I Have Killed the Deer , written by a
Taos Pueblo Indian, emphasizes the importance of equality and the mystical connection with nature.
Both works highlight the unique Indian perspective of nature and its contribution their identity. Both
Martiniano and the Taos Pueblo Indian use nature to provide life; Martiniano s self centered view on
the old Indian traditions prevent him from finding peace in a faith, while the Taos Pueblo Indian fully
appreciates and understands his role in nature. While both Martiniano and the Taos Pueblo Indian use
death to provide themselves with life, the two show a different level of respect to the role of nature.

An Analysis OfMystery Of Iniquity, By Lauryn Hill
In a late Tupac Shakur interview in the early 90 s he said, it all comes down to we have to survive, we
got to survive here in this country, because I m not going back to Africa, we have to survive here .
Social injustice is what activist stressed during and after the civil rights movement. This paper is going
to explore the poem Mystery of Iniquity by Lauryn Hill. In this poem Lauryn Hill warns you of the
government, and the free world . This poem was written in 2002, during which police brutality was
very prominent. In the start of this century African Americans still lived in poverty, and was treated
unfairly in the court systems causing grief.
In Mystery of Inequity Hill stresses the social injustice that is going on around the world for the
African Americans. Social injustice is when the equals are treated unequal. It can also be
discrimination towards one group or many. Therefore, this poem Hill talks about and will focus and
talk about the inequality in the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery. The criminal
justice system is targeting black males and Hill recognizes this. The discrimination is how blacks were
treated unfairly. Last but not least, the poem express that slavery is still potent during this era. These
three brings the poem together expressing how Hill feels about the inequality for African Americans.
She says in When it all.../ all falls down.../ Telling you all.../ It all falls down (lines 4 7). This is saying
that the American system is falling and will fall eventually. Above all, In the Mystery of Inequity , Hill
talks about the history of inequity which is the criminal justice system, discrimination, and slavery.
Hill talks about the criminal justice system which is crooked and socially injustice in Mystery of
Inequity . She says, Witness despised / crooked lawyers / false indictments publicized (lines 19 21). In
this text Hill is saying that the legal (court) system is just a joke. It s made for the people who create
the laws. In line 20 Hill says crooked lawyers , because It s all about who has money which can help
you or be against you in court. In addition, Hill says, The more money you pay... the further away

Attending An Informational Protest Here At Siena College
For this event paper, I decided to attend an informational protest here at Siena College. To bring
awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising
Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the
biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the
world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this
event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this
event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it
for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article
Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. Jacobs because

U.s Airways And American Airlines
On October 17, 2015, two of the largest airlines officially became one after two years of negotiations.
These negotiations came under great scrutiny, whilst pulling one airline out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Continuing to use the American Airlines name, U.S Airways and American Airlines became the largest
airline in the world. American Airlines was founded in the 1930 s, under the name of American
Airways, after acquiring 80 small airline carriers (Koenig 2011), mainly used for mail services.
Charles Lindbergh was noted as flying the first American Airlines flight, which carried mail from St.
Louis, MO to Chicago, IL (American Airlines 2016). After nearly 10 year of flying mail, the name
was changed to American Airlines, and became the first airline to fly passengers from New York to
Chicago, in a Douglas DC 3; this was the plane that changed the entire airline industry, switching
revenue sources from mail to passengers (American Airlines 2016). American Airlines continued to
revolutionize passenger flight service, by offering non stop transcontinental flights across the United
States in 1953. In 1981, American Airlines joined other major airlines in the hub and spoke system,
and created their first hub at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the same location as their
headquarters. They expanded to new hubs throughout the 1980 s to other cities throughout the United
States, Europe and Japan. In a joint effort to create an airline alliance, American Airlines

out of the distinctive features outlined above. These concerns can be broadly addressed under three
broad categories, viz, (i) Legal and regulatory issues, (ii) Security issues and (iii) Supervisory and

of the area where access to Internet has been made or where the transaction has finally taken place.
Allied too is the issue where the income has been generated and who should tax such income. There
are still no definite answers to these issues. 1.1.5 Security of i banking transactions is one of the most
important areas of concerns to the regulators. Security Issues include questions of adopting
internationally accepted state of the art minimum technology standards for access control, encryption,

How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s ...
In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with
silent films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations in
America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound
systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led to
the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the
reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology
determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film
industry in America during the 1920s.
As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been silent films even before the introduction of
synchronised sound, there was never any such thing as a silent film at least as far as the audience was
concerned (Cameron, 1980, p. 3 4). Films were shown to audience s in vaudevilles and were often
imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often had a commentator
to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and actors to create sound
effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological approach you could argue that
synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film because it just standardised and
mechanised the aural component (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was already

Later that year, Jobim was invited along with other Brazilian artists to perform in the US as Bossa

securing his reputation as one of the great songwriters of Jazz music in the 20th century.
Begin the Beguine was recorded in July 1938 by a swing orchestra led by Artie Shaw on the clarinet
as the lead soloist. His big band was composed of 3 trumpet players, 3 trombones, 2 alto saxophones,
2 tenor sax players, and a rhythm section including piano, guitar, bass, and drums. As the song begins
with the clarinet solo and muted trumpets, the swing feel becomes clear to the listener. The rhythm
section keeps a steady beat of 4 beats per measure throughout, and the solos are carefully defined and
organized with the drums or the trumpets occasionally helping to bridge gaps between various
sections of the song until the Clarinet finally leads the band to a conclusion.

Scarlet Fever Disease
Scarlet Fever is an illness that can develop from strep throat and usually affects children between the
ages of five to fifteen (Mayo Clinic, 2011). This disease is able to be controlled with the use of
antibiotics, but only if it is recognized and interpreted correctly. When recognized by the combination
of symptoms, medical help should be reached. If left untreated, scarlet fever could lead to many other
complications throughout the body. Scarlet Fever was once a dangerous illness, but knowing and
understanding the causes, symptoms, treatments and prevention methods has taken the fear away.
Scarlet fever can become of strep throat in children. It is caused by the streptococcus bacteria, which
makes a toxin that can cause a scarlet rash, from which this illness gets its name. Not all children react
the same, or at all, to this toxin, but it is still important to watch for (Klein, M.D., 2012). Scarlet fever
can be spread through mucus found in sneezes or coughs that pass through children when they are
involved with close interactions through family and school. It generally takes two days for the
symptoms to appear.
The symptoms of scarlet fever generally last for not more than a week. They include a red rash and
lines across the body, a flushed face, a fever over 101 degrees, a red, sore throat, a red (strawberry)
tongue, a swollen uvula with sacs of white pus on it, swollen glands of the neck, nausea, vomiting,
difficulty swallowing, headache and abdominal pains. The red

Essay On Hyperlipidemia
Hyperlipidemia affects nearly 30% of Americans (CDC, 2012). Hyperlipidemia may be better known
as high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a fatty wax like substance that is naturally produced in the body
(NLM, 2013). People with high cholesterol may never even know they have the condition. But when
they become aware, they have to make immediate changes in relation to adhering to specific diets,
exercising regularly, and undergoing prescribed treatment or alternative therapies. Incorporating more
fruits and vegetable in the diet, and less fried and processed foods should be one of the first steps
taken after diagnosis. Exercising at least 3 days a week can serve as a fun and healthy way to reduce
blood cholesterol levels. And taking natural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be a difficult feat to undertake. More people are working longer hours, and it may seem as
though there is never enough time to do everything that needs to be done. On top of this, there are
ample fast food restaurants available with 24 hour supplies of food that may not be the best option for
perfectly healthy individuals, let alone individuals with high cholesterol. Eating a diet that is high in
fruits and vegetables; consuming fish, such as salmon; and increasing fiber intake can all help to lower
cholesterol levels. Even drinking 1 to 2 glasses of red wine a night can serve to reduce cholesterol
levels. People affected by high cholesterol have to be mindful of how much red meat they consume;
they should limit the amount of eggs eaten, fried foods, and dairy products. Total cholesterol intake
should be between 250 and 300 mg/day (heart.org, 2013). Eating processed and fast food only
exacerbates hyperlipidemia, so making an effort to devise a diet plan and cook the necessary foods,
would serve to decrease cholesterol levels. Increasing physical activity is also a necessity that can
contribute to having good cholesterol levels. Enjoy at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic
physical activity more days than not for a total of at least 50 minutes per week (heart.org, 2013). That
equates to working out for about 45 minutes at least 3 days a week. Those individuals with high

Analysis Of Dancer By Alden Nowlan
Frequently in life, human beings go through obstacles that shape and reform who they are. Achieving
satisfaction in life is the way individuals evaluate their personal lives, directions and the decisions
they make in the future. Through the decisions that are made, individuals are altered and reformed.
While our decisions and situations take an effect they are rather led by a purpose. Oftentimes,
limitations and existence of self sacrifice are built on the ideas of self control and altruism. Self
sacrifice is known as the giving up of one s own interests or wishes in order to help others or to
advance a cause, which is shown excessively through the poem; Dancer, by Alden Nowlan. The poem
showcases to the readers that sometimes, limitations should be placed on altruistic movements for the
well being of an individual. Although, the question still remains; to what extent is an individual
willing to go when facing these situations?
Dancer by Alden Nowlan, is a poem that is constricted, but free. The poem creates a scenario of a
sport, which once delved in, is deconstructed on a deeper understanding. The poem is built through the
surroundings that are interpreted in the poem. The verbs of the stanzas provide the different levels of
emotions that the girl goes through. The poem begins at a rest the dusk of a new day, the start of a new
game. In the second stanza, the poem exceedingly warms up as the words pauses, then rears, and
throws are chosen; but in return,

Psychedelic Musicians in Rock and Roll
In 1967 the Beatles were in Abbey Road Studios putting the finishing touches on their album Sgt.

heard what was then a new young band called Pink Floyd working on their hypnotic debut, The Piper
at the Gates of Dawn. He listened for a moment, then came rushing back. Hey guys, he reputedly said,
There s a new band in there and they re gonna steal our thunder. With their mix of blues, music hall

The zeitgeist of the time was the final collapse of a certain kind of thinking. The seeds were sown for
feminism, for the whole notion of cyberspace, ecology, and the whole philosophy of Gaia. Suzy
Hopkins, formerly Suzy Creamcheese, a dancer and inspirational figure on the underground scene in
Los Angeles and London, remembers the visceral way psychedelic culture affected the senses. There s
a difference between a drug and a psychedelic. Drugs make you drugged and psychedelics enhance
your ability to see the truth or reality, she says. For her, LSD and music created a kind of alchemy.
When I start to dance, at a certain point, the dance takes over and the music is dancing me. Dancing is
this electric enhancement of your spine by sound. Many psychedelic bands explored this sense of
abandonment in their music, moving away from standard rock rhythms and instrumentation. The
Grateful Dead of San Francisco, for instance, created an improvisatory mix of country rock, blues, and
acid R B on albums like The Grateful Dead (1967) and Anthem of the Sun (1968), while another
Frisco band, Jefferson Airplane (fronted by the striking vocalist Grace Slick), sang of the childlike

As a result of no progress in the negotiations, applications to FWA were made to commence protected
industrial action. Subsequently various forms of action was undertaken by the three employee groups.
The unions engaged in overtime bans and ongoing brief work stoppages, which disrupted Qantas
flights regularly and impacted reportedly on the airline commercially (workplace xpress 2011e) (Todd,
2012).
Industrial action conducted by the Engineers included short stoppages, weekend overtime bans, full
shift stoppages and a stop work meeting. The protected action was intermittent, and on some
occasions was not undertaken when scheduled, also, stoppages were managed in order for Qantas to
continue business. (Sangkuhl, 2011)
Conciliation with FWA had also commenced but no advancements had been made (Brigden, 2012).
TWU also conducted short stoppages, and a stop work meeting, and although it would appear that
these were conducted to minimise disruptions this was inevitable as some stoppages were cancelled,
affecting Qantas business.

Scaffolding Research Paper
A current advancement in food science is the development of certified cultured beef. Certified cultured
beef is consumable beef that is biologically cultured in a laboratory. To create this beef, there are two
methods used: scaffolding and self organizing, also known as the in vitro method. Both the scaffolding
and the in vitro methods use tools to extract parts of an animal s skeletal muscle to build the meat;
however, the muscle parts grow differently and the developed meats vary in size.
The scaffolding method requires that scientists extract satellite cells, called myoblasts, from the
animal to grow in the petri dish. Myoblasts, which are the smallest unit of an animal muscle, then

The Role of African American Women in the Civil Rights...
The African American Civil Rights Movement was a series of protests in the United States South from
approximately 1955 through 1968. The overall goal of the Civil Rights Movement was to achieve
racial equality before the law. Protest tactics were, overall, acts of civil disobedience. Rarely were they
ever intended to be violent. From sit ins to boycotts to marches, the activists involved in the Civil
Rights Movement were vigilant and dedicated to the cause without being aggressive. While African
American men seemed to be the leaders in this epic movement, African American women played a
huge role behind the scenes and in the protests. When discussing the American Civil Rights

However, unlike many protest leaders, Clark s most influential work was done behind the scenes.
Septima Poinsette Clark was an educator first and foremost. She got a job teaching as soon as she
graduated from high school and taught children during the day and illiterate adults at night. She first
got involved in political activism when she began campaigning for equal salaries for teachers
regardless of their race. She also joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP), which eventually cost Clark her job. Because she was unable to find work, she was
forced to move to Monteagle, Tennessee where she worked as a teacher at Highlander Folk School.
This is where Septima Clark would make her mark on history. She began by teaching literacy cources
where she would teach uneducated adults simple things like how to fill out a voter registration card or
a driver s license forms. Clark saw a need for this type of education and realized that this was the key
to the advancement of the African American people.
It was through these ideas that Septima Clark eventually developed the idea for Citizenship Schools .
These were schools that taught adults how to read and eventually gain citizenship through education.
The citizenship schools are what Septima Clark is most famous for, and for good reason. They not

The Scapegoat Research Paper
The doctrine of the escape Goat in the Old Testament
In the law of Moses, the scapegoat bore the burden of the sins of the people. What is a scapegoat and
what is the origin of that word? The word scapegoat has two meanings. The most common is one that
bears the blame for others. That person may or may not be guilty of . The original meaning was a goat
was present upon whose head are symbolically placed the sins of the people after which the goat is
sent into the wilderness in the biblical ceremony for Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement. On the one
hand, the goat takes upon him the sins of the people, and on the other hand, he is set free in the
wilderness. The first meaning of the word given above refers to one who is blamed (and usually ...

The reason for this barbarous custom was that on one occasion the scapegoat returned to Jerusalem
after being set free, which was considered such an evil omen that its recurrence was prevented for the
future by the death of the goat . The scapegoat is not intended to escape but instead to be cast out into
an uninhabited wilderness to be gone forever from the people. That much is in the actual Law of
Moses, as understood by those who performed the ceremony. The Christian interpretation of the
scapegoat has seemed obviously that the scapegoat bore all the sins of Israel and so did Christ who
outdated the laws of mosses in our time. The bible make it clear that Christ suffered for our sins and
paid for them in full. That is the whole point of the Atonement, and that is a core belief of true
Christians. And even if He is a goat in this case, the other goat of this pair seems like a much better
candidate. After all, he was the one chosen to be for Jehovah , and he was sacrificed to atone for the
sins of mankind, as was Christ. If the scapegoat represents Christ who bore all of our sins, then what
was the point of the other goat which was sacrificed to pay for them? Most commentators conclude
that both goats represent Christ, but have no compelling explanation for the difference between them.
The good example of scapegoat is between Barabbas and Jesus. Jesus and Barabbas were judged by
Pilate, who found no guilt in him. There was a tradition of releasing one prisoner at Passover. So the
governor asked crowd to chosen whom to release among the prisoners, and the they Barabbas to be

These people have strong desire to success in their career and self established goal, and therefore they

likely not only mentally and physically burnout themselves, they are also likely to wipe out the
relationship between their co workers, friend, and even their family (Avani, Mark, Jennifer Scott,
2012). For all these workaholics, although they are different in types and may have different
characteristics, they are all struggling with the exclusion of other social or life activities due to their
over indulgence in work activities (Robinson, 1997). Outcomes of Work: It seems that workaholics are
working harder than other non workaholics worker since they are working longer time, they should be
more productive and efficient in their work outcomes; however, the research shows a different result.
Burke (2001) states that the workaholics are working harder yet receive less reward for their efforts.
This statement is supported by the idea of Spence Robbins (1992), that it is not the external motivators
makes workaholics work, but the strong inner drive of workaholics. From these two statements,
workaholism does not have ideal positive impact on individuals who are workaholics. However, some
researchers view workaholism as a positive phenomenon, as they think on an organizational level,
employers would be happy to employ a workaholic to for them (Scott,

Anglo Saxon Hero Research Paper
The Anglo Saxon Hero Today, the world defines a hero as someone who is kind, smart, and includes
everyone. In the Anglo Saxon era, Beowulf, a character from the epic, Beowulf, embodies many of the
qualities that the Anglo Saxons considered when defining a hero. Beowulf fights in his first battle of
the epic against Grendel because he continually murdered sleeping men in Hrothgar s beautiful hall,
Herot. Once Grendel is defeated, his spiteful mother comes to seek revenge, so Beowulf battles and
kills her as well. In Beowulf s last battle, he fights an angry dragon. During the battle, Beowulf is

I). Airport maintenance facilities
The airport maintenance facilities contain hangar areas and involve public access as well as supply of
deliverables. Since these facilities are accessible to the public, airport operator should coordinate
security of these facilities to limit the chances of any possible threat. Moreover, the products delivered
through these facilities might contain materials that might be useful in planting a security assault.
II). Aircraft movement area
By definition, aircraft movement encompasses areas such as runways, aircraft ramps, and taxiways.
These movement areas are completely airside and require specific security measures as provided for
by the law in addition to adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations. The accessibility of the aircraft
movement area by public or individuals conducting specific duties makes such areas prone to security
needs. Largely, the airport operator might not assume that the intentions of persons accessing these

  • 2. The Hockey Sweater Essay The Quebec Vexation The French speaking people of Quebec lived under heavy oppression in the 1950s and 60s. Many francophone people looking for work in Quebec cities were refused because of their French background. In areas such as Montreal, the francophone people were earning up to 50 percent less than their English speaking peers. There was a clear distinction between the quality of life for the English and the quality of life for the French. It was because of this distinction that the people of Quebec often resented the English and their ways of life. And it is from this resentment, the story The Hockey Sweater was written. The Hockey Sweater is a story told from the perspective of a young boy living in a small town in Quebec. He, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Quebecois found that their cultures were too different to be placed on equal footing with the other provinces. This frustration with the other provinces eventually led to The Quiet Revolution and an attempt to separate from the rest of Canada. Up until the end of the 1960s, the French people of Quebec could be seen living as second rate citizens in Canada. It wasn t until 1969, that the Official Languages Act was passed by Pierre Elliot Trudeau giving both the English and French languages equal representation in Canadian parliament. Up until then, most documents written by the Canadian government and its affiliates were solely in English and did not recognize French as an official language. In The Hockey Sweater, the character of Mr. Eaton can be equated to the role of the Canadian government. The order forms provided in the Eaton s catalogue were completely in English even though they were being shipped to a small French town in Quebec. This could be seen as the English speaking people of Canada imposing their language and culture upon Quebec in an almost assimilation like manner. The lack of equality with regards to the French and English language pre 1969 led to many people of Quebec feeling subservient to the rest of Canada. The language issue played a vital role in the story of The Hockey Sweater which led to great turmoil just as it did with Quebec s culture during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of Sisterhood Is Complicated By Ruth Padawer Every person deserves the right to experience a sense of community amongst people who share a common characteristic. A sense of fellowship amongst similar people allows a person to become more comfortable with who they are through interactions with others who are going through or have gone through the same triumphs or hardships. The nurse patient relationship is created in part by the patient, family, and community. 3. All characteristics of the patients are contributory to one another and should not be isolated. 4. Traditions are not loved nor understood immediately, however with time the importance of tradition becomes evident as it makes people unique. To bring awareness to domestic violence in our society, Siena College hosted the One Billion Rising Revolution in the Sarazen Student Union on February 12th, 2016. One Billion Rising is one of the biggest revolutions intended to end violence against women in the world. Many people around the world come together to express their opinions, dance, and rise up against domestic violence. At this event many different dance teams at Siena College were asked to send ten of their dancers to this event to perform. Out of twenty girls on the team, I volunteered to learn a short dance and perform it for a good cause. The One Billion Rising Revolution connects to the theme Diversity, and the article Why Does Diversity Matter at College Anyway? by Jeremy S. Hyman and Lynn F. American Airlines continued to revolutionize passenger flight service, by offering non stop transcontinental flights across the United States in 1953. • 16. How Sound Developed Changed America During The 1920s ... In this essay I will explain how sound developed in American cinema in the 1920s, beginning with silent films in the 1910s. I will explore the development of sound systems from large corporations in America, and the failed experiments with sound beforehand. I will analyse the use of these sound systems by Warner Brothers and Fox, the first film studios to adopt sound, and explore how this led to the Big Five film studios also adopting the use of synchronised sound. I am going to examine the reasons why synchronised sound developed from a teleological, contextual, and technology determinist approach. To conclude I will evaluate the impact synchronised sound had on the film industry in America during the 1920s. As Raymond Fielding stated films have never truly been silent films even before the introduction of synchronised sound, there was never any such thing as a silent film at least as far as the audience was concerned (Cameron, 1980, p. 3 4). Films were shown to audience s in vaudevilles and were often imitations of other vaudeville acts. These films were played alongside music, often had a commentator to helps the audience understand their narratives, and used instruments and actors to create sound effects. Since films were never silent to begin with from a teleological approach you could argue that synchronised sound was inevitable in the development of film because it just standardised and mechanised the aural component (Neale, 1985, p. 93) that was already ... Eating a diet that is high in fruits and vegetables; consuming fish, such as salmon; and increasing fiber intake can all help to lower cholesterol levels. Even drinking 1 to 2 glasses of red wine a night can serve to reduce cholesterol levels. The seeds were sown for feminism, for the whole notion of cyberspace, ecology, and the whole philosophy of Gaia. Suzy Hopkins, formerly Suzy Creamcheese, a dancer and inspirational figure on the underground scene in Los Angeles and London, remembers the visceral way psychedelic culture affected the senses. There s a difference between a drug and a psychedelic. Drugs make you drugged and psychedelics enhance your ability to see the truth or reality, she says. For her, LSD and music created a kind of alchemy. When I start to dance, at a certain point, the dance takes over and the music is dancing me. Dancing is this electric enhancement of your spine by sound. Many psychedelic bands explored this sense of abandonment in their music, moving away from standard rock rhythms and instrumentation. The Grateful Dead of San Francisco, for instance, created an improvisatory mix of country rock, blues, and acid R B on albums like The Grateful Dead (1967) and Anthem of the Sun (1968), while another Frisco band, Jefferson Airplane (fronted by the striking vocalist Grace Slick), sang of the childlike hallucinatory delights of an acid trip in the 1967 Top Ten hit White Rabbit. As a result of no progress in the negotiations, applications to FWA were made to commence protected industrial action. Subsequently various forms of action was undertaken by the three employee groups. Certified cultured beef is consumable beef that is biologically cultured in a laboratory. To create this beef, there are two methods used: scaffolding and self organizing, also known as the in vitro method. Both the scaffolding and the in vitro methods use tools to extract parts of an animal s skeletal muscle to build the meat; however, the muscle parts grow differently and the developed meats vary in size. The scaffolding method requires that scientists extract satellite cells, called myoblasts, from the animal to grow in the petri dish. From sit ins to boycotts to marches, the activists involved in the Civil Rights Movement were vigilant and dedicated to the cause without being aggressive. She first got involved in political activism when she began campaigning for equal salaries for teachers regardless of their race. She also joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which eventually cost Clark her job. Because she was unable to find work, she was forced to move to Monteagle, Tennessee where she worked as a teacher at Highlander Folk School. What is a scapegoat and what is the origin of that word? The word scapegoat has two meanings. The most common is one that bears the blame for others. That person may or may not be guilty of . The original meaning was a goat was present upon whose head are symbolically placed the sins of the people after which the goat is sent into the wilderness in the biblical ceremony for Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement. On the one hand, the goat takes upon him the sins of the people, and on the other hand, he is set free in the wilderness. The first meaning of the word given above refers to one who is blamed (and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for this barbarous custom was that on one occasion the scapegoat returned to Jerusalem after being set free, which was considered such an evil omen that its recurrence was prevented for the future by the death of the goat . The scapegoat is not intended to escape but instead to be cast out into an uninhabited wilderness to be gone forever from the people. That much is in the actual Law of Moses, as understood by those who performed the ceremony. The Christian interpretation of the scapegoat has seemed obviously that the scapegoat bore all the sins of Israel and so did Christ who outdated the laws of mosses in our time. The bible make it clear that Christ suffered for our sins and paid for them in full. That is the whole point of the Atonement, and that is a core belief of true Christians. And even if He is a goat in this case, the other goat of this pair seems like a much better candidate. After all, he was the one chosen to be for Jehovah , and he was sacrificed to atone for the sins of mankind, as was Christ. If the scapegoat represents Christ who bore all of our sins, then what was the point of the other goat which was sacrificed to pay for them? Most commentators conclude that both goats represent Christ, but have no compelling explanation for the difference between them. The good example of scapegoat is between Barabbas and Jesus. Jesus and Barabbas were judged by Pilate, who found no guilt in him. There was a tradition of releasing one prisoner at Passover. So the governor asked crowd to chosen whom to release among the prisoners, and the they Barabbas to be free. Burke (2001) states that the workaholics are working harder yet receive less reward for their efforts. This statement is supported by the idea of Spence Robbins (1992), that it is not the external motivators makes workaholics work, but the strong inner drive of workaholics. From these two statements, workaholism does not have ideal positive impact on individuals who are workaholics.
