Katherine Dunham Research Paper
Go within everyday and find the inner strength so that the world will not blow your candle out (A
Quote by Katherine Dunham 1). Once one of the most successful dancers in both American and
European theater, Katherine Dunham, a dancer, anthropologist, social activist, and educator, continues
to inspire people throughout the world. Named America s irreplaceable Dance Treasure in 2000.
Dunham remains a name heard regularly in dance schools across the world ( Katherine Dunham
Biography 4). She is known for always trying to make a difference and in the process she has become
of the world s greatest humanitarians (Osumare 5). Katherine Dunham s work in African American
rights in the dance world and her creation of new styles of dance makes her an important figure in
American dance History.
Katherine Dunham was born June 22, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois ( Katherine Dunham Biography 1).
After her mother s unexpected death four years after her birth, Dunham would be sent to live with her
aunt who would give Dunham her first exposure to music and dance ( Katherine Dunham

schools and companies all over the world. Her travels to other countries always inspired her
choreography. She is credited for bringing caribbean and African influences to a European dominated
world ( Katherine Dunham Biography 2). Dunham s use of different world influences innovated dance

The Human Mind In George Eliot s I Grant You Ample Leave
Imagine a person is asked to flip a coin. He is given three chances to guess whether the coin will land
on heads or tails. The first two flips, he guesses heads and both times the coin lands on tails. Certainly
the third time, the guesser believes, the coin must land on heads. He follows his instinct, and he is
wrong again. This scenario is just one example of the human mind attempting to impose a pattern on a
random phenomenon. People love patterns and order, so we create societies, institutions, and artificial
concepts like time. The human brain sees a man on the moon and seeks out information confirming its
hypotheses (and ignores support for the oppositions). George Eliot critiques this beneficial, but also
limiting, skill of the human mind. In I Grant You Ample Leave, she argues that humans perceive
pattern and connection where there is none. Line 6 of I Grant You Ample Leave asserts that You link
false inference with, the Since so (Eliot, 6). Within these few words, Eliot describes her audience with
an emphatic pronoun. She then retains her audience s attention using unorthodox styles such as
enjambment and blank verse. Finally, she employs a logogram, the ampersand, as a symbol of her
poem s argument.
With the first word of the line You, Eliot yanks the reader s attention to who her audience is. The
reader s eyes drift calmly from the end of the previous line to be startled by the capitalized and
enjambed pronoun You. Eliot capitalized the first

Illegal Immigration Problem
Today, there are many problems with illegal immigration. As the world continues to grow so do the
number of illegal immigrants so the number of problems arise with this scenario. Immigration is good
as it is but the problem is the increasing number of illegal immigrants that are swarming over the
border into America. There are a few ways we can reduce the number of illegal immigrants and
hopefully try to put an effort into stopping these illegal immigrants from coming into America. We
have approximately 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.A. ( 5 ). That is a lot and Mexicans are no
longer the top of the list of illegal immigrants also ( 5 ) Only six of the 50 states hold fifty nine percent
of the illegal immigrants ( 5 ). Most illegal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number one illegal drug transportation is located in the Arizona Mexico border. Having a physical
wall will add only more support, making security have an increase in capturing illegal immigrants (
The Pros ). Thus decreasing the amount of illegal immigrants flowing in providing with yet another
advantage a sense of security to the American people, all while decreasing the number of illegal
immigrants flowing in illegally. Another advantage would be past successes of border security because
it has worked in the past. This can lower illegal drugs coming into the U.S. for Arizona and the U.S.

Decisions Made by Women in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Decisions Made by Women in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in
want of a wife
This opening paragraph of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin has become one of the most famous
sentences in English literature. It states that the novel will explore the theme of marriage. Jane Austen
lived in an opinionated world and this is reflected in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice no secret is
made of the need to marry for money. Many different types of marriages are explored in this novel.

Her mind was less difficult to develop. She was a woman of mean understanding, little information,
and uncertain temper. When she was discontented, she fancied herself nervous. The business of her
life was to get her daughters married; its solace was visiting news.
Such a description suggests their characters do not match perfectly. Mrs. Bennet is not very bright and
often causes embarrassment of the two oldest daughters Jane and Elizabeth, whereas her husband is a
witty, intellectual gentleman. Some chapters further on we are given a serious look at the quality of the
Bennet s marriage and the relationship of husband and wife. Mr. Bennet does not behave properly
toward his wife. As a young woman she had all the charms of youth and beauty to attract him. In time,
however, her shallowness and ignorance had very early in their marriage put an end to all affection for
her. Respect, esteem, and confidence had vanished forever;
Despite this fact he did not resort to drinking, gambling or other pleasures like some men do. Instead
he indulges himself in ridiculing his wife, who does not seem to realise it, in front of their daughters.
As a result some of them unfortunately lost respect for their own mother. It occurs their marriage was

Examples Of Prejudice In Snow Falling On Cedars
Prejudice Among Japanese Americans in Post World War II times and Now Since they could not
forget about it, neither could he (Guterson 31). This quote explains how Kabuo Myiamoto felt after his
help in the war. He tried to forget about how they made him feel, but after a while, it was hard to
ignore the fact that he was Japanese. In today s society, the words racism and prejudice are used
mostly in a joking manner. The story of Snow Falling on Cedars takes place in a post World War II
time. The words racism and prejudice were not used so lightly back then. World War II had caused
animosity between the United States and Japan. After the war, the Japanese were treated as less than
citizens. During and after World War II, there were many articles ... Show more content on

A story similar to Snow Falling on Cedars, called Divine Wind, is about a Japanese couple in
Australia. The story depicts a lifetime love story between two Japanese Australians, but the conflict of
war separates the two. This book not only shows what is was like to be a person of Japanese descent
during the war, but also how people would have treated you and acted towards you if you were
Japanese (Rosser). Today, the focus of racism and prejudice isn t so much on Japanese Americans, but
rather on some other minority races such as African Americans and Latinos. Prejudice among people
today is both similar and different to the prejudice during and after World War II. An example would
be the murder of Trayvon Martin, which compares to the murder in Snow Falling on Cedars. Many of
the stories told today are stories about people who dealt with racism. Many people during World War
II felt that the claims made against the Japanese Americans were false and unjust. The feelings of
many Japanese Americans have never been forgotten, maybe repressed and ignored, but not forgotten.
The prejudice in our country has not left, or faded away, but been subtly hidden in today s

The Rise, Fall and Religion of the Inca Empire Essay
The Rise, Fall and Religion of the Inca Empire
The title Inca Empire was given by the Spanish to a Quechuan speaking Native American population
that established a vast empire in the Andes Mountains of South America shortly before its conquest by
Europeans. The ancestral roots of this empire began in the Cuzco valley of highland Peru around 1100
AD. The empire was relatively small until the imperialistic rule of emperor Pachacuti around 1438.
Pachacuti began a systematic conquest of the surrounding cultures, eventually engulfing over a
hundred different Indian nations within a 30 year period. This conquest gave rise to an empire that, at
its zenith in the early 16th century; consisted of an estimated 10 million subjects living ... Show more

He accomplished this by ambushing and capturing the Inca ruler Atahualpa. Pizarro invited Atahualpa
to a peaceful gathering , but when Atahualpa arrived, he was captured, imprisoned and ransomed.
Atahualpa s ransom was paid by the Inca empire with what would be equivalent to 50 million dollars
worth of gold today, or, better stated by Pizarro, as enough gold to fill a room . Unfortunately, this
ransom was paid to no avail; in 1533 the Spaniards strangled and beheaded Atahualpa. The Spaniards
extended their control over Inca territory in the following years. In 1572 they overwhelmed the last of
the Inca forces and captured the last emperor, Túpac Amaru. In beheading him, they ended the Inca
dynasty.
The conquerors introduced the encomienda system, which put Native Americans to work at forced
labor on great agricultural estates. Thousands died of European diseases and many others fled the land
of their ancestors, causing the population to drop rapidly. Today about 8 million descendants of the
Incas inhabit the lands of the former empire, speaking the Quechuan language and following many of
the ancient Inca beliefs and customs.
The Inca religious system was based on the worship of multiple deities. The supreme god was the
creator god, Viracocha. The Incas also worshiped the sun god, Inti, from whom the royal family was
believed to have descended. Additionally, a number of other nature gods were

The Firearm Owner s Privacy Act
Based upon my understanding of the United States Constitution as well as listening to the arguments
brought forth by the two parties in this particular case, I see a great reason to believe that three of the
four provisions of the Firearm Owner s Privacy Act is an unconstitutional abridgment of the First
Amendment. The record keeping provision, anti harassment provision, and the inquiry provisions are
in clear violation of the First Amendment as they are content based regulations of speech that fail strict
scrutiny. However, the anti discrimination provision of the law is constitutional as it does not regulate
free speech.

The greatest problem with the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law, as enacted, has three provisions designed to carry out the state of Florida s governmental
responsibility of protecting its citizens Second Amendment rights from being potentially infringed.
Additionally, there is one provision in the law that aims to protect against the possibility that
physicians might discriminate against patients or potential patients simply due to the fact that they are
exercising their constitutional right of owning a firearm. However though, in creating this law, the
Florida State Legislature created a content based and viewpoint based restriction upon physicians right
to freedom of speech under the First Amendment. As this law imposes both a content based and
viewpoint based restriction upon a physician s fundamental right to free speech specifically in order to
prohibit the advocation of a specific point of view, I believe that strict scrutiny is only suitable form of
judicial review for a case such as this. As was established in Ashcroft v. ACLU (2002), the
government cannot impose restrictions upon the First Amendment simply because of its content. This
decision was then strengthened greatly by the Supreme Court in the case of Reed v. Town of Gilbert
which made the determination that laws which restrict speech based on its communicative content...

How The Concrete Formed After Hydration Essay
INTRODUCTION
When cement is mixed with water in order to prepare concrete, the
hardened concrete formed after hydration is not a solid mass but a porous
material. There is formation of pores due to water which is initially added.
Water occupies some fraction of the total initial volume and after the
hydration of cement water is held physically, chemically or is adsorbed on
product after hydration. This leads to formation of different types of pore
structure inside the hydrated cement.
CLASSIFICATION OF PORES STRUCTURES IN HYDRATED
CEMENT
1. Capillary pores: The hydration of cement leads to formation of a
network of hydrated solid product with the left empty spaces between
the hydrated products that are occupied by water left after hydration.
These residual spaces are known as capillary pores. The capillary porosity
of the cement paste depends on the original water cement ratio and on
the amount of cement that has become hydrated. Capillary pores volume
reduces with time by precipitation of hydrates, into originally water filled
space. Capillary pores have high irregular shapes. Capillary pores are
assumed to have a major effect on transportation process but only minor
effect on hydration rates. These pores represents about 18.5% of the
original volume of dry cement. Further classification of capillary pores are
a) Large capillary pores: These are pores with large space and they
b) Medium capillary pores: These are medium pores

The Social Media Platform Of Tumblr
Albert Costill, writer for Search Engine Journal, reports that 66% of Tumblr users are under 35 years
old, while 39% are under the age of 25. Costill also noted that 13% of 18 to 29 year olds have used the
social media platform (Costill). These statistics prove how common and thus influential Tumblr is
amongst young adults. Tumblr is a social media website and application that allows users to make
their own personal blog with posts consisting of text, pictures, and videos. One of the main reasons
that Tumblr is so prominent amongst young people is because of the sense of anonymity that the
website can provide. Whereas normal social media platform s ask the user to identify themselves by

By setting the tone for what is popular, young people s actions are directly influenced by what they
see on Tumblr. Since whatever people on this form of social media do is instantly seen as acceptable,
young adults tend to try and conform to these trends. Typically the trends seen on Tumblr all have a
rebellious and unruly connotation, thus mostly having a negative impact on society. Things such as
drugs, alcohol, sex, and nudity are all heavily promoted on Tumblr. In addition to these, mental illness
is largely advocated for on Tumblr. Mental illnesses tend to be glamorized online causing those who
have these conditions to oftentimes become even worse. While Tumblr is a great way to meet people
who are similar to you, it can also be detrimental in the fact that people can bond over topics such as
mental illness. Surely there are many blogs offering help to those who are suffering with these types of
conditions, but the ones that gain the most attention are the blogs that make these types of problems
worse. Caitlin Dewey, reporter for The Washington Post, says that self harm blogs can be disturbing:
sites dedicated solely to cutting, suicide, or eating disorders, replete with stomach turning details, high
contrast photos, and song lyrics from depressive teen bands (Dewey, Self harm). Imani McGarrell,

The Importance Of The Regulation Of Free Speech
Is the Regulation of Free Speech the Best Way to Reduce Bigotry? The debate of free speech
absolutists vs free speech regulators inside of America s college campuses have once more risen to
become a widely discussed issue. Many are contemplating whether to enforce consequences, or to
stick to the first amendment and leave them to their hurtful speech. Those proposing to place codes
and regulations on free speech in college campuses believe that by banning people from using hate
speech, all the bigotry and hatred will magically disappear. While I agree with the proponents of
regulating free speech in that it would help to reduce hurtful speech, I cannot agree that the solution to
eradicating bigotry and hate in our society is the regulation and restriction of free speech on college
campuses. The claim of those supporting the regulation of free speech believe that it would decrease
the amount of hatred and discrimination against minority groups rests upon the questionable
assumption that not being able to use hate speech automatically means that those who use it no longer
discriminate against the minorities they normally target with their hateful speech. They believe that
the enforcement of punishments for the use of offensive speech would change the opinions and minds
of those who previously used hate speech. One proponent for restricting hate speech, Laura Beth
Nielsen, claimed that hate speech results in tangible harms that are serious in and of themselves and

Why Was The Scottsboro Boys Trial Unfair
The Scottsboro boys trial took place in March of 1931, a trial that was dictated by race and not by
actions. The accusations were faulty, as was the evidence. Yet the boys were all sentenced for death or
life imprisonment. The trial was unfair at least, the nine black boys were in the wrong place at the
wrong time.
The boys were riding a train to find work and instead got into a fight with some of the white men on
the train. The police were called and they came. Two women were also in the train car and out of fear
they reported they had been raped by the black men. The black men were then arrested and taken out
at gunpoint. They were put on trial a few days later.
The trial began in 1933, and it was ruled by race only. The first trail every

The Victorian Century Woman And A Victorian Woman Essay
What is the difference between a 21st century woman and a Victorian woman? Most women in the
21st century are exhilarating, lively, intelligent, passionate, and full of life, but who is to say that
Victorian women were not? It is said that the typical Victorian woman must have inherent qualities of
femininity [such as:] emotion, passivity, submission, dependence, and selflessness (Historical). Most
of the Victorian women abode by these social standards and therefore could not speak their true
thoughts or emotions. This is because they were dominated by their sexuality, and were expected to
fall silently into the social mold crafted by men, since they were regarded as irrational, sensitive, and
dutiful (Historical). A famous writer from that era, Charlotte Bronte, defied these social standards by
creating characters and explaining, through them, her own thoughts and beliefs. The protagonist, Jane
Eyre, was created to exemplify Bronte s powerful emotions that would have been looked down upon
in society. In Charlotte Bronte s Victorian novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte uses constant description of fire to
symbolize Jane s emotions and her thoughts that could not have been expressed aloud. Bronte also
uses fire to demonstrate the emotional aspect of Jane s personal development throughout the novel.
Overall, Bronte creates this symbol of fire to defy the social standards of typical and suppressed
Victorian women by demonstrating their true passion and exuberant emotions.

Neoclassical Architecture
The Neoclassical architecture consisted in the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. One of the earliest phases
of the neoclassical architecture grew alongside with the Baroque Period. The architecture is generally
evident in England, where there are buildings like the St Paul s Cathedral, The Royal Observatory, and
The Royal Chelsea Hospital. Large scale structures, Ionic pillars, and huge Renaissance style noodles
represent the Neoclassical architecture. Many took inspirations from simple shapes like spheres,
cubes, and cylinders so they could provide a more abstract classicism. Two well known architects of
the neoclassical period were the British architect Robert Adam and American architect Thomas
Jefferson. The British architect Robert Adam was one of the most important architects that worked in
the neo Hellenic manner. Born in Kirkaldy, Scotland, he followed the steps of his father and studied
architecture (Albert 1). His style worked well beyond only architect, but to interiors which included
moveable objects in a room. Ancient Greece and Rome influenced his plans and decoration. He even
got his own style which is experienced as the Adam Style or Adamesque. Some of his famous houses
included the Kenwood House, Oseterley Park, and the Syon House (Study.com 1). His plans are a lot
looser and less serious, with a broad range of color and ornamentation. His architecture was made to
match the outside of the building so it would fit the interior. So, bring everything together to

Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling
I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation.
Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience.
The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and
then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece
in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many
interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life
maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his
writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he
integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the
audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations.
Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences.
Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further
interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however,
depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset.
Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from situations
and how a person handles

The Philadelphia Chromosome Report
The book The Philadelphia Chromosome by Jessica Wapner follows the story of how a fatal disease
called Chronic Myeloid Leukemia became one of the first targets of kinase inhibitors for targeted
cancer therapies. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) affects only a small number of people (an
estimated 8,500 diagnoses this year), but was until recently considered a fatal disease. Gleevec, a drug
created by Novartis (mostly) that targeted the BCR/ABL protein in CML patients. This protein causes
a tyrosine kinase to uncontrollably phosphorylate myeloid cells in bone marrow. The BCR/ABL
protein is caused by a gene mutation known as The Philadelphia Chromosome, which is an

His goal is to find out how this gene leads to CML in patients, and hopefully, find a way to stop it. The
bcr/abl protein constantly tells cells, specially myeloid cells, that it is time to divide, causing
uncontrollable replication, and these cells have a mutation in them, they don t die like normal cells do,
causing the body to overflow with these useless cancer cells. Researches at Ciba Giegy began working
on a way to inhibit the bcr/abl tyrosine kinases from signaling to cells. This work resulted in a
compound known as STI 571, which was a targeted kinase inhibitor. One of the fears this team faced
was, if you inhibit a kinase, do you inhibit them all? Causing the patient to die, or can you manage to
only inhibit a single type of kinase, leaving the rest alone to do their jobs. By 1996, Gleevec (STI 571)
was shown to kill cancer cells, while leaving normal cells healthy. In 1998, Ciba Giegy (now
Novartis) was ready to start phase 1 clinical trials in patients. By 2001, the FDA approved the drug for

Benefits Of Veganism And Vegetarianism
Veganism and Vegetarianism
Veganism and vegetarianism are widespread trends that have been gaining attention rapidly all around
the world. For some people, they are only a diet. On the other hand, for others, they are a lifestyle.
Veganism and Vegetarianism are both diverse diets that can affect the human body and environment in
different ways. Veganism is a lifestyle that excludes any use of animal products, such as meats, dairy,
leather, etc. The main purpose of veganism is to not support animal exploitation, thus not support
animal cruelty. However, many people can also turn to veganism as a diet. Veganism proves to be

Few vegans believe that everyone should become vegan to help cure the world in ways where we do
not have to promote acts such as deforestation, and do not have to continue killing animals for our
own desires. However, the majority of vegans are satisfied with their own actions, knowing that they
can make a difference on their own. On the contrary, vegetarianism is a not as strict of a diet as
veganism, much less a lifestyle. Many vegetarians choose this lifestyle because they are attempting to
fix their health, want to take part in saving animals, or simply do not like the taste of meat. In a way,
vegetarianism is a healthier diet than veganism, even though vegetarians wouldn t be losing pounds

veganism. Because veganism is so strict, it is hard to chose the right substitutes to eat in order to get

Poverty and Homelessness in the United States Essay
Poverty and Homelessness in the United States Poverty in America is a subject that though everybody
recognizes is existent, most do not pay attention to very often. In 2010 the poverty line for a family of
four was $22,314.00 and 15.1% of Americans were living off of less than that (Tavernise, 2011).
While 15.1% is a high number to begin with, the truth is that many more people are living on the
verge of homelessness. Countless families are split up every night with children going to a friend s
house or an extended family member s house to ensure that everyone has somewhere to sleep. These
people are called the hidden homeless by the Charlotte Observer (Whitesides, 2011). Even more

that many people are not willing to open up a safe haven, such as a church, to potentially dangerous.
Even though many people try to go through their days without judging people, it is inevitable to have

homeless person money that he or she will most likely use it on beer or drugs. These discourses need
to be eliminated in order for the country s problem to be solved. The United States is known as a
country full of opportunities, a place where anyone can succeed but behind that visage is a reality that
is becoming worse and worse as time goes on. While people go throughout their days pretending that
everyone lives a comfortable life in a warm home, the truth is that at any given moment there are
thousands of Americans who are homeless. Problems that have been existent since the beginning of
the United States have contributed to this ever growing problem that is prominent now.

The Keynesian Fiscal Policy Solution Aggregate Demand
The Keynesian Fiscal Policy Solution Aggregate Demand Problems
The 1920 s witnessed a rise of a new economic policy which had not yet been seen prior to the great
depression. Before the great depression, the widely accepted economic policy which was implemented
and practiced around the world was called Natural Economics. Natural Economics was a fiscal policy
that embodied the idea that the economy would eventually take care of itself and run freely without
the government s influence. However, the duration of the Great Depression was so substantial that it
exposed natural economics to be ineffective. This lead British economist John Maynard Keynes to
invent his own economic policy that he introduced to economist around the world with the ... Show

In circumstances; such as war, Keynesians economic policy provides a near perfect solution for
boosting an economy. However, without a war to force an increase in demand, an increase in
government spending would snowball into a business cycle of aggregate demand problems. Aggregate
Demand is the total demand for goods and services within a market and consists of four main
components; investment, consumption, government spending and net exports. These coincide directly
with Keynesian s economic fiscal policy. For boosting aggregate demand is the primary focus and
supposed key to Keynesians fiscal policy solution. Since aggregate demand coincides directly with
Keynesian s economic policy, all of the policy s long term problems become aggregate demand
problems. With Keynes policy s increase in government spending comes an initial boost in consumer
spending which then boosts aggregate demand. Businesses increase supply and expand to meet this
boosted demand. However once the fiscal stimulus package runs out, the once increased aggregate
demand begins to decrease. The federal reserve begins to then print more money in order to
compensate for the recently depleted fiscal package in order to maintain the aggregate demand levels.
Additional printing of money lowers the value of the dollar thus causing inflation. As inflation rates
rise in the economy consumers purchasing power decreases. With consumers purchasing power
shrinking the

Advances in Liver Transplants
Advances in surgery and immunosuppressive therapy have improved clinical outcomes and
opportunities for liver transplantation among those previously excluded (e.g., older adults) (1). During
the liver allocation system prior to 2002, liver transplant recipients 60 years old were reported to have
promising graft and patient survival rates similar to younger cohorts (1 12).Other published reports
have cited significant mortality and complications among older recipients (13 18), though important
clinical outcomes like functional status have been infrequently studied. (7, 13).
In 2002, the Model for End Stage Liver Disease (MELD) system for liver allocation was implemented
and it resulted in lower waiting list death rates among recipients without changing 1 year graft and
patient survival (19, 20), including those 65 years (21) in comparison to the pre MELD era. However,
functional status and long term clinical outcomes among older liver transplant recipients in the MELD
era are unclear.
Based on the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), the number of waitlisted older
adults ( 65 years) for liver transplantation has significantly increased in the past decade from 9.9%
(1,637) in 2001 to 16% (2,460) in 2011 (22). The demand for liver transplantation is expected to
increase with high rates of Hepatitis C infection among individuals born between 1945 1965 who are
at risk for cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (23). Given the increasing numbers

Callaway Golf Company CEO Ron Drapeau told CBSMarketWatch, We have become known as the
company that brings innovation to the game for the average golfer. We re not focused on the elite

But that is not to say that Callaway clubs are spurned by professionals. By the end of the 2000

With Ely Callaway back at the helm, Callaway Golf proceeded to introduce a new set of titanium
metal woods, and its low center of gravity tungsten injected titanium irons. The metal woods
reportedly gave the ball a more penetrating flight, while the irons facilitated long trajectory shots.
In February 2000, Callaway Golf introduced its much anticipated Rule 35 golf balls. Named after the
unofficial 35th Rule of Golf, which admonishes the player to enjoy the game, the balls superior
performance made them the Number 2 ball in usage, top 10 finishes and wins in the five major
professional tours in their first year in play.
In 2000, Callaway Golf announced that it would produce a new forged titanium driver. But with the
introduction of its so called ERC II Forged Titanium Driver later that year, Callaway Golf suddenly
found itself double bogeyed. Although the new driver was ruled eligible for play overseas (it was
actually rated the top driver in Japan and the number one driver on the Japan PGA tour), it was ruled
to be non conforming to the United States Golf Association s (USGA) limits on the coefficient of
restitution – that is to say, its action was too spring like – and the club was therefore deemed
unacceptable for play in tournament events where USGA Rules apply.
By mid 2002, the USGA had decided that the banned drivers would be legal for use by recreational
golfers – but not for professionals – until 2008, after which time they would again be

Cory Arnold Research Paper
Hi there! I m Cory Arnold, an English teacher in his fifth year in Japan with four years of experience
teaching at junior high and elementary schools in Japan. My first year was as an exchange student at
Kandai Gaidai in Osaka, where I studied language with Japanese students. That caused my interest in
studying Japanese language to expand to linguistics and foreign language in a broader sense, leading
me to become an English teacher. Primarily working at junior high school, much of my work is
focused on instructing proper English grammar, spelling and pronunciation. Along with speech contest
coaching, I make and grade worksheets, tests, and activities to practice all four aspects of language
(reading, writing, speaking, listening).

RNA Interference in Biotechnology and Pharmacetics Essay
Almost all biology students learn the fundamentals of gene expression, DNA contains information
which is transcribed into RNA to create protein. Students however, are not taught of RNA
Interference, the biological process where RNA molecules inhibit a gene s expression, RNAi for short.
While RNAi is a fairly new discovery, its use in modern biological research is groundbreaking. RNA
Interference works by binding Double stranded RNA molecules (siRNA) to a complementary
messenger RNA. The enzymes Dicer and Slicer then cleave the chemical bonds which hold the
messeger RNA in place and prevent it from delivering protein silencing instructions thus, the term,
Gene Silencing. This phenomenon was first discovered by Richard Jorgensen in 1990 when ... Show

Sanofi plans on using antibodies to target PCSK9 which could lead to an alternative to the commonly
used statins drug. Out of the 32 patients in the most recent trial, 24 received a single dose of the RNAi
drug. The results showed that the expression of PCSK9 dropped to a staggering average, 70% and a
40% decrease of LDL cholesterol levels. If the PCSK9 inhibition drug deems successful it is still not
sure whether the drug will perform well from a business aspect.
Another application of RNAi is in Parkinson s disease. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health
have successfully used RNA Interference to uncover several genes which possibly represent new
therapeutic targets for treating Parkinson s disease. These discoveries may also be useful to other
diseases cause by damage to the mitochondria. Researcher Richard Youle explains, we discovered a
network of genes that may regulate the disposal of dysfunctional mitochondria, opening the door to
new drug targets for Parkinson s disease and other disorders

Why The Arts Is Not The Spotlight
Why the Arts Deserve the Spotlight In recent years, the debate of art programs in schools have
become more prominent. Many people argue that developing the arts is not only a waste of time, but
money. However, the arts programs are more than just painting for an hour at school. Programs like
band, drama, and art have been neglected in public schools for too long, they can represent schools
just as well as any sport, and they have the ability to create a better rounded and safer society. Being a
part of all three of these programs throughout high school has provided me with first hand experience
of the problems and disrespect they face.
The neglect of arts programs have had drastic impact on our school. While sports are encouraged from
an early age and have budgets large enough to cover their equipment and multiple coaches, two of the
three feeder schools for East Ridge don t even have a band program. The one feeder school fortuitous
enough to have band only has it for sixth through eighth grade students. The band director is not only
directing the middle school s band in the morning, she also directs East Ridge s band in the afternoon.
Between four local schools, she is the only music teacher. Another section of the Arts that has been
neglected for years is Drama. Only available through an elective at school, Drama has no budget from
the school and has struggled to stay afloat through concession and kind donations from local people.

How Did We Revolutionize Canada
Nothing could have better complimented the end of WW1 than the 1920s, also known as the roaring
twenties. This era is most notable for its help in revolutionizing Canada into a new modern age and
help shape Canada into what it is today. This was a time of many new remarkable inventions like the
automobile, the radio, and the telephone which all had advanced and change how we live today. This
era was also when Canada took the necessary steps in achieving greater autonomy from Britain.
Canadians believed that Canada should no longer be controlled by a European power, so in the
decades after war, Canada took steps toward independence. Canada joined the League of Nations in
1919. This was one of the first times canada took independent action in cooperation with a ... Show

differences. It is important to note the key traits that are the defining characteristics in each of these
two characteristics. They are very similar in the fact that they are family, they are both in the
Aristocrat class, and they are both respectful to others; but have many differences also. To start off, the
experiences of the Knight and the Squire are very different. On one hand, The Knight has fought many
battles. He makes sure to stay humble and not to brag about these wins. On the other hand, the Squire
has not been doing it long, so he has a significantly less amount of experience as his father. In

Adding 4700 more daily CP would amount to $38,775 in profits per day, assuming a profit margin

Competition:
Competition for CP lies in the Emergency and Rush services. Emergency services received maximum
speed and was the most costly. Purolator Courier Corporation, Shulman Sky Cab, Delta Dash are all
companies that provide the service. However, the average Emergency service cost was $30, and CPs
cost significantly lower. The average Rush cost was around $10, and although CPs are most
expensive, they are at a competitive price by offering competitive advantages. The most specific
service competitor is U.S. Postal Service s Express Mail, which costs $6.00 per package.
How should FEC market CP? Which industries should FEC focus on?
FEC should market to those who are not Executives, as they already have them as customers, but
rather any and all industries. The Manufacturing and Distributing industry uses the most CP monthly,
and we would like to see the other similar industries use just as much. Any industry that transports
small goods can utilize the service.
The 5 minimum purchase costs $62.50, which creates a barrier for those who are willing and able to
send something within a tight time constraint. Envelopes should be provided for free, and charged
upon the actual service of mailing out the package. Corporations enjoy flexibility. We believe that CPs
should be marketed as a product that is great for reliability and speed, making a point that they

No More Miss America By Robin Morgan Essay
Many radical feminist groups such as the New York Radical Women group (NYRF) gathered together
as The Women Liberation Movement to protest against the deep rooted conception of a traditional
woman in the United States during the Second Wave Feminism (1960s 1990s). The Women Liberation
Movement was a demonstration of challenging society s common sense, or hegemony, which was
nurtured by the dominant ideology which in this case was a gender hierarchy where men were
believed to be superior to women. The primary source No More Miss America by Robin Morgan
describes her experiences as a participant of the NYRF protesting against the Miss American Pageant
in Atlantic City on September 7th 1968. The NYRF group discussed ten points of how the Miss
American Pageant promoted the traditional woman stereotype based on racial beauty standards,
submissiveness, and inferiority to men. The NYRF protest critiqued both the representation side of the
behavioral expectation of traditional women as well as the structural side of the obstacles that women
faced within social institutions such as labor and educational opportunities. With the representative
side traditional women promoted by the Miss American Pageant, it reinforced women s submissive
and sexist inferiority and racial beauty criteria within the structural side to be approval by men.
However, there was intersectionality in the structural obstacles and representation side extending the

Recommended area for further investigation and why
Samples were dredged and analysed from four sites along the Kermadec Arc volcanic system between
Macauley Island in the North to Rumble II West in the South. As a result of chemical of analyses of
the rocks, the two sites recommended for further investigation are in the southern part of the arc where
the Brothers (site 3) and Rumble II West (site 4) volcanoes are located. Both these volcanoes have
large calderas which are associated with hydrothermal activity, and Brothers Volcano has erupted
silicic rocks which are also associated with hydrothermal activity (Nichols, 2009 p271). Hydrothermal
activity and the sulphur rich fluids generated can be a source of sulphide minerals for lead, zinc and
copper.
Rock types found at Brothers Volcano were analysed as dacite and rhyolite, both of which erupt from
silicic magmas. The graphs of major and minor elements for site 3 showed distinctly different values
compared to the other samples, indicating a different magma chemistry at this site. The plot of the
minor trace elements showed high barium levels. Barite is the most common sulphate material
associated with barium and is also commonly sourced in hydrothermal processes along with lead, zinc
and copper. Numerous surveys have discovered active hydrothermal systems and Brothers volcano is
considered to have the most active hydrothermal activity in the Kermadec Arc (Embley et al., 2012)

objectively. In Africa and in Nigerian cultures especially, they are considered the reliable horses,
which convey meanings to their destinations or hearts of the listeners. This study investigates aspects
of the meaning of proverbs in the work of a Nigerian author, Achebe s Things Fall Apart. It is

Theory: Stimulus Response Types: Denotative, Affective. Analysis: There is a tact advice almost
coinciding with the English proverb, one good turn deserves another here. If a person accords honor or
reverence to the successful ones, it is likely that he is also going to be successful. In other words, the
sense of the proverb is that a person who helps another man helps himself indirectly as he gets
familiar with what that man engages in and this will ultimately lead him also to greatness, directly or
indirectly. 5 A toad does not run in the daytime for nothing.15 Theory: Ideational Types:
Denotative/Stylistic Analysis: The proverb tasks our mental conception or general knowledge of the

be something amiss. The sense of the proverb is that there is a cause for anything strange that happens;
there must be a reason, at least no smoke without fire . A toad running in daytime is probably pursuing
something or certainly something is pursuing it. It has to do with the cause effect relationship. An old

Hardware Efficient Delta Sigma Linear Processing Circuits
Abstract: This paper presents hardware efficient Delta Sigma linear processing circuits for the next
generation low power VLSI device in the Internet of things (IoT). We first propose the P N pair
method to manipulate both the analog value and length of a first order Delta Sigma bit sequence. We
then present a binary counter method. Based on these methods, we develop Delta Sigma domain on
the fly digital signal processing circuits: the Delta Sigma sum adder, average adder, and coefficient
multiplier. The counter based average adder can work with both first order and higher order Delta
Sigma modulators and can also be used as a coefficient multiplier. The functionalities of the proposed
circuits are verified by Matlab simulation and FPGA implementation. We also compare the area and
power between the proposed Delta Sigma adders and a conventional multi bit adder by synthesizing
both circuits in the IBM 0.18 µm technology. Synthesis results show that the proposed Delta Sigma
processing circuits can extensively reduce circuit area and power. With 100 inputs, a Delta Sigma
average adder saves 94% of the silicon area and 96% of the power compared to a multi bit binary
adder. The proposed circuits have the potential to be widely used in future miniaturized low power
VLSI circuits.

Analysis Of Hills Like White Elephants
The short story Hills like White Elephants written by Ernest Hemingway contains lots of hidden
meaning and symbolism. It is almost crpytic and engimatic.
The story is hard to understand at first and then you start to realize that there is a much deeper
meaning to the story. One has to read the entire story until the end to understand what is going on,
then a second time to fully and completely comprehend the hidden meaning behind the dialogue in
this short story. The story Hills like
White Elephants at the surface seems to be a simple story and contains straightforward dialogue, but
all of it can be analzyed and we can see that there s is a much deeper meaning behind it all. The girl
named Jig suggests that the hills look like white elephants. Which is a reference to the saying the
white elephant in the room . The saying the white elephant in the room means that there is something
that everyone knows about and there is almost a sense of tension in the air. As if there was a white
elephant in the room, everyone knows it is there but no one wants to talk about it. One example of a
white elephant situation is where a family member crashed a car, but at dinner that night no one
speaks of it, but that s whats on everyone s minds. The entire short story seems to reference that there
is something that is going to happen to the girl but it is by her choice. At first glance it seems like she
is going to do something irreversible as implied in the lines ...And once they take it away you can
never take it back . Whatever she is about to do is going to change her life forever. And this choice she
is going to make creates tension between her and the man, which I assume is her lover. It is clear he
wants to go forward with it, he keeps telling her how simple it is and how We ll be fine afterwards,
just like we were before . From everything said in the story, we can conclude that it is an abortion she
is going to have. The way the girl speaks she seems to be very anxious and nervous. She wants to try
different alchoholic drinks and continues to make suggestive, implicative small talk. Jig seems to be
very unsure of her choice, and her lover is very encouraging of her decision

The Formation of Black English and Its Influences on...
1. Introduction African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is one special dialect of American
English, and it is different from Standard American English. African American Vernacular English can
also be called as Black English, Black Vernacular English or African American Language
(AAL).Black English had been discriminated for a long time in history. There was a saying that Black
English is not a language . The saying is not correct. According to Montgomery, culture should not be
biased, but should be including all that are produced and shared by the society( Montgomery 7). Even
though Black English is different from Standard English, Black English has its unique linguistic
system. It has its own system in phonetics, lexicology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well known linguist William Labov is the first one to system study Black English. On June of 1979,
Detroit court judged that Black English is a language. That means Black English finally earned its

America, Benjamin Franklin recorded a short paragraph as follows: Boccarorra [a form of buckra

and lexicology are different from Standard English. Even though there are some differences in certain
aspects of language between Black English and American English, after all, Black English is a variant
of English. So the differences are only in some degree rather than fundamental. 3.1 Phonetics The first
generation of black American was all African slaves, so their African tone was inevitable when they
spoke English. The African tone mixing with Standard English tone makes the special Black English

James Cone Essay
A Black Theology of Liberation
By James H. Cone
Christian theology is a theology of liberation. It is a rational study of the being of God in the world in
light of existential situations of an oppressed community, relating the forces of liberation to the
essence of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. (pp. 1) James H. Cone stresses the idea that theology is
not universal, but tied to specific historical contexts. In A Black Theology of
Liberation James, Cone explains what Black theology is and uses the Exodus story, found in the
Old Testament and the life of Jesus Christ, New Testament, to give examples of the oppression and
liberation. Cone believes both stories are vital and necessary in understanding God and
God s relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be able to attain true freedom they must destroy all of their whiteness, become black, and try with
every means possible to bring about the liberation of their new community. The oppression African
Americans have felt through slavery and discrimination have made them God s chosen people, so
understanding God and his will cannot be done independent of understanding their community. In
fact, understanding the God of Black theology, the only true theology as Cone sees it, is not possible
by white people as they are oppressors and it is not possible for them to understand the oppressed
community and their condition or to understand the nature of God, as he is the God of the oppressed.
In Cones discussion on Black theology he critique White theology, the theology of oppressors because
even the historic Black church has been controlled by White theology and the wrongs of this theology
must be shown and realized so that the true Black theology can be followed. Cone frames a theology
of liberation from within the context of the Black experience of oppression, understanding the central
core of the Gospels as Jesus identification with the poor and oppressed and the resurrection as the
ultimate act of liberation.
In Chapter 6, Cone digs deep into the New Testament and uses the New Testament as evidence on
Jesus relationship to the oppressed. James Cone believed that the New

The Hiding Place Book Report
The Hiding Place by Orna Jagur
The Hiding Place is about Corrie ten Boom, her family, and how they helped the Jews in Holland
when Germany invaded Holland in World War II.
The main characters are Corrie, her older sisters Betsie and Nollie, her older brother Willem, and their
father, Casper ten Boom, commonly referred to as Opa.
The book starts out in January of 1937, in Haarlem, Holland.
When Germany invaded Holland during the beginning of World War II, the Jews were the German
soldiers and Adolf Hitler s main targets. Jews were required to wear a yellow star on their shirt, and if
they walked around town during the day, they risked being taken into captivity by the German
soldiers. This, among other racism against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So Corrie would take the ration cards that were hidden and give them to Jews. After a year or so,
Corrie and her family ran out of places to send Jews for hiding, so they were forced to keep 7 Jews in
their own house.
A fellow member of the Dutch Underground warned the ten Boom family that if their house was ever
to be searched by soldiers and they had Jews in their house, they d be in trouble. For families living in
the country this wasn t much of a problem, but the ten Boom house (the Beje), was located on the
main street of the city and around the corner from the German headquarters! Since the Beje also
served as a pretty famous watch store, this could also be a problem because random people could
come in during open store hours. To fix this problem, a man offered to build a secret room located
somewhere in the Beje. This room is where the Jews would hide if the Beje had been broken in and
searched through by the Germans. The man had built the secret room into the back of Corrie s
personal bedroom. When he was done, it was completely unnoticeable to the naked eye that there was
a hidden room behind her bedroom wall. For months, the 7 Jews (Eusie, Jop, Henk, Leendert, Meta,
Thea, and Mary) just slept in it.
On February 28th, 1944, the Secret room got its first and only time to actually hide the 7 Jews in the
ten Boom household. It seemed, somehow,

Exploring and Unraveling Autism Essay
Autism Spectrum Disorder, known as ASD, is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders,
characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and
stereotyped patterns of behavior. Autistic Disorder, referred to as autism or classical ASD, is the most
common and severe form of ASD. Other less severe conditions along the spectrum include Asperger s
Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorder. Autism affects information processing in the brain by
altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize. It is not completely understood as to
why this occurs. Autism has a strong genetic basis and in rare cases, it is strongly associated with
agents that cause birth defects. According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1943, an Austrian American psychiatrist, Dr. Leo Kanner was one of the first to specialize in child
psychology and was credited with recognizing autism as its own unique mental disorder. Kanner
discussed his research based on a group of eleven children who all displayed similar conditions such
as social interaction difficulties, difficulty processing and adapting to changes, particularly good
memory, and exceeding sensitivity to sounds and other stimulants. Kanner used the term autism to
describe the main characteristics that all of the children he studied displayed little to no interest in
socializing with others. Lastly, Dr. Hans Asperger, a scientist and pediatrician in the late 1900 s, also
contributed research and multiple studies on children with autism. Dr. Asperger is best known in the
history of autism for defining Asperger s Syndrome. Asperger s Syndrome is a less severe condition
disorder along the spectrum. Asperger s Syndrome is characterized by significant difficulties in social
interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other
autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of cognitive development. For many years,
autism was rare, occurring in just five children per 100,000 live births. However, according to the
Autism Research Institute, since the the early 1900 s, the rate of

How Does Kid Cudi Affect The Black Community
This has been a struggle for the black community for the last decades as many come not wanting to
talk about mental health and the diseases that people may be suffering at the time. They will rather not
talk about, as they do not want to look weak in front of their peers and if they do say that they are
suffering from mental health, they will be told to man up, it s a phase and that he ll be fine in a few
days . This has recently changed in the last few years as both notable rappers Kendrick Lamar and Kid
Cudi has publicly expressed vulnerability in their last projects. Also, Darryl McDaniels, from the
legendary group, Run DMC, who has personally battled with mental illness for a number of years, but
he resisted from getting help. When asked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Empathy Star Trek
Star Trek: TNG and the Cultivation of Empathy
In this paper, I argue that watching Star Trek: The Next Generation cultivates empathy. Empathy is a
good that human beings ought to develop and having a sense of empathy is one of the best things in
life. Empathy consists in the capacity to understand what another person is going through from their
perspective. The reason that a sense of empathy is one of the best things in life is that it is impossible
to have deep and meaningful relationships with others when we don t have empathy. Without empathy,
we inevitably turn inward and live a lonely life. For this reason, empathy is one of the best things in
life.
Regular watching of Star Trek: TNG increases our capacity for empathy. The reason why this is the
case is that watching acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now characters in Star Trek: TNG routinely show empathetic concern for one another. For instance,
when a race of cyborgs capture Jean Luc Picard (captain of the Enterprise on the show), the crew of
the
Enterprise do everything in their power to rescue Picard. One of their main motivations for rescuing
Picard is their experience of the sense of distress that he experiences while in captivity. This is just one
instance where empathy is shown in the program, but it happens on a regular basis. In sum, watching
Star Trek: TNG increases our capacity for empathy because the characters regularly display empathy
on the show and because we tend to imitate the actions that we see other human beings performing.
Someone might object to this argument by pointing out that characters on the show also display
cruelty that involves a lack of empathy. For instance, in one episode a malevolent being kills one of
the members for the crew for no apparent reason. If we watch this cruelty, then perhaps we ourselves
might behave more cruelly. But this objection can be refuted. Cruelty on the show is always shown in

  • 3. The Human Mind In George Eliot s I Grant You Ample Leave Imagine a person is asked to flip a coin. He is given three chances to guess whether the coin will land on heads or tails. The first two flips, he guesses heads and both times the coin lands on tails. Certainly the third time, the guesser believes, the coin must land on heads. He follows his instinct, and he is wrong again. This scenario is just one example of the human mind attempting to impose a pattern on a random phenomenon. People love patterns and order, so we create societies, institutions, and artificial concepts like time. The human brain sees a man on the moon and seeks out information confirming its hypotheses (and ignores support for the oppositions). George Eliot critiques this beneficial, but also limiting, skill of the human mind. In I Grant You Ample Leave, she argues that humans perceive pattern and connection where there is none. Line 6 of I Grant You Ample Leave asserts that You link false inference with, the Since so (Eliot, 6). Within these few words, Eliot describes her audience with an emphatic pronoun. She then retains her audience s attention using unorthodox styles such as enjambment and blank verse. Finally, she employs a logogram, the ampersand, as a symbol of her poem s argument. With the first word of the line You, Eliot yanks the reader s attention to who her audience is. Unfortunately, this ransom was paid to no avail; in 1533 the Spaniards strangled and beheaded Atahualpa. The Spaniards extended their control over Inca territory in the following years. • 12. How The Concrete Formed After Hydration Essay INTRODUCTION When cement is mixed with water in order to prepare concrete, the hardened concrete formed after hydration is not a solid mass but a porous material. There is formation of pores due to water which is initially added. Water occupies some fraction of the total initial volume and after the hydration of cement water is held physically, chemically or is adsorbed on product after hydration. This leads to formation of different types of pore structure inside the hydrated cement. CLASSIFICATION OF PORES STRUCTURES IN HYDRATED CEMENT 1. Capillary pores: The hydration of cement leads to formation of a network of hydrated solid product with the left empty spaces between the hydrated products that are occupied by water left after hydration. These residual spaces are known as capillary pores. The capillary porosity of the cement paste depends on the original water cement ratio and on the amount of cement that has become hydrated. Capillary pores volume reduces with time by precipitation of hydrates, into originally water filled space. Capillary pores have high irregular shapes. Capillary pores are assumed to have a major effect on transportation process but only minor effect on hydration rates. These pores represents about 18.5% of the

  • 15. The Importance Of The Regulation Of Free Speech Is the Regulation of Free Speech the Best Way to Reduce Bigotry? The debate of free speech absolutists vs free speech regulators inside of America s college campuses have once more risen to become a widely discussed issue. Many are contemplating whether to enforce consequences, or to stick to the first amendment and leave them to their hurtful speech. Those proposing to place codes and regulations on free speech in college campuses believe that by banning people from using hate speech, all the bigotry and hatred will magically disappear. While I agree with the proponents of regulating free speech in that it would help to reduce hurtful speech, I cannot agree that the solution to eradicating bigotry and hate in our society is the regulation and restriction of free speech on college campuses. The claim of those supporting the regulation of free speech believe that it would decrease the amount of hatred and discrimination against minority groups rests upon the questionable assumption that not being able to use hate speech automatically means that those who use it no longer discriminate against the minorities they normally target with their hateful speech. Most women in the 21st century are exhilarating, lively, intelligent, passionate, and full of life, but who is to say that Victorian women were not? It is said that the typical Victorian woman must have inherent qualities of femininity [such as:] emotion, passivity, submission, dependence, and selflessness (Historical). Most of the Victorian women abode by these social standards and therefore could not speak their true thoughts or emotions. This is because they were dominated by their sexuality, and were expected to fall silently into the social mold crafted by men, since they were regarded as irrational, sensitive, and dutiful (Historical). A famous writer from that era, Charlotte Bronte, defied these social standards by creating characters and explaining, through them, her own thoughts and beliefs. The protagonist, Jane Eyre, was created to exemplify Bronte s powerful emotions that would have been looked down upon in society. In Charlotte Bronte s Victorian novel, Jane Eyre, Bronte uses constant description of fire to symbolize Jane s emotions and her thoughts that could not have been expressed aloud. Aggregate Demand is the total demand for goods and services within a market and consists of four main components; investment, consumption, government spending and net exports. These coincide directly with Keynesian s economic fiscal policy. For boosting aggregate demand is the primary focus and supposed key to Keynesians fiscal policy solution. Since aggregate demand coincides directly with Keynesian s economic policy, all of the policy s long term problems become aggregate demand problems. With Keynes policy s increase in government spending comes an initial boost in consumer spending which then boosts aggregate demand. Businesses increase supply and expand to meet this boosted demand. However once the fiscal stimulus package runs out, the once increased aggregate demand begins to decrease. The federal reserve begins to then print more money in order to compensate for the recently depleted fiscal package in order to maintain the aggregate demand levels. Additional printing of money lowers the value of the dollar thus causing inflation. As inflation rates rise in the economy consumers purchasing power decreases. With consumers purchasing power shrinking the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Advances in Liver Transplants Advances in surgery and immunosuppressive therapy have improved clinical outcomes and opportunities for liver transplantation among those previously excluded (e.g., older adults) (1). During the liver allocation system prior to 2002, liver transplant recipients 60 years old were reported to have promising graft and patient survival rates similar to younger cohorts (1 12).Other published reports have cited significant mortality and complications among older recipients (13 18), though important clinical outcomes like functional status have been infrequently studied. (7, 13). In 2002, the Model for End Stage Liver Disease (MELD) system for liver allocation was implemented and it resulted in lower waiting list death rates among recipients without changing 1 year graft and patient survival (19, 20), including those 65 years (21) in comparison to the pre MELD era. However, functional status and long term clinical outcomes among older liver transplant recipients in the MELD era are unclear. Based on the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), the number of waitlisted older adults ( 65 years) for liver transplantation has significantly increased in the past decade from 9.9% (1,637) in 2001 to 16% (2,460) in 2011 (22). The demand for liver transplantation is expected to increase with high rates of Hepatitis C infection among individuals born between 1945 1965 who are at risk for cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (23). We re not focused on the elite professional players. It s been a very successful approach for us. But that is not to say that Callaway clubs are spurned by professionals. By the end of the 2000 professional tour, Callaway Golf ranked as the most played manufacturer of drivers, fairway woods and irons on the world s five major professional tours combined. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Ely Callaway back at the helm, Callaway Golf proceeded to introduce a new set of titanium metal woods, and its low center of gravity tungsten injected titanium irons. The metal woods reportedly gave the ball a more penetrating flight, while the irons facilitated long trajectory shots. In February 2000, Callaway Golf introduced its much anticipated Rule 35 golf balls. Named after the unofficial 35th Rule of Golf, which admonishes the player to enjoy the game, the balls superior performance made them the Number 2 ball in usage, top 10 finishes and wins in the five major professional tours in their first year in play. In 2000, Callaway Golf announced that it would produce a new forged titanium driver. But with the introduction of its so called ERC II Forged Titanium Driver later that year, Callaway Golf suddenly found itself double bogeyed. Although the new driver was ruled eligible for play overseas (it was actually rated the top driver in Japan and the number one driver on the Japan PGA tour), it was ruled to be non conforming to the United States Golf Association s (USGA) limits on the coefficient of restitution – that is to say, its action was too spring like – and the club was therefore deemed unacceptable for play in tournament events where USGA Rules apply. By mid 2002, the USGA had decided that the banned drivers would be legal for use by recreational golfers – but not for professionals – until 2008, after which time they would again be ... • 28. RNA Interference in Biotechnology and Pharmacetics Essay Almost all biology students learn the fundamentals of gene expression, DNA contains information which is transcribed into RNA to create protein. Students however, are not taught of RNA Interference, the biological process where RNA molecules inhibit a gene s expression, RNAi for short. While RNAi is a fairly new discovery, its use in modern biological research is groundbreaking. RNA Interference works by binding Double stranded RNA molecules (siRNA) to a complementary messenger RNA. The enzymes Dicer and Slicer then cleave the chemical bonds which hold the messeger RNA in place and prevent it from delivering protein silencing instructions thus, the term, Gene Silencing. Out of the 32 patients in the most recent trial, 24 received a single dose of the RNAi drug. If the PCSK9 inhibition drug deems successful it is still not sure whether the drug will perform well from a business aspect. Another application of RNAi is in Parkinson s disease. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health have successfully used RNA Interference to uncover several genes which possibly represent new therapeutic targets for treating Parkinson s disease. These discoveries may also be useful to other diseases cause by damage to the mitochondria. Researcher Richard Youle explains, we discovered a network of genes that may regulate the disposal of dysfunctional mitochondria, opening the door to new drug targets for Parkinson s disease and other disorders (http://www.nih.gov/news/health/nov2013/ninds 24.htm). Many people argue that developing the arts is not only a waste of time, but money. However, the arts programs are more than just painting for an hour at school. Programs like band, drama, and art have been neglected in public schools for too long, they can represent schools just as well as any sport, and they have the ability to create a better rounded and safer society. Being a part of all three of these programs throughout high school has provided me with first hand experience of the problems and disrespect they face. The neglect of arts programs have had drastic impact on our school. While sports are encouraged from an early age and have budgets large enough to cover their equipment and multiple coaches, two of the three feeder schools for East Ridge don t even have a band program. The one feeder school fortuitous enough to have band only has it for sixth through eighth grade students. The band director is not only directing the middle school s band in the morning, she also directs East Ridge s band in the afternoon. Between four local schools, she is the only music teacher. The average Rush cost was around $10, and although CPs are most expensive, they are at a competitive price by offering competitive advantages. The most specific service competitor is U.S. Postal Service s Express Mail, which costs $6.00 per package. How should FEC market CP? Which industries should FEC focus on? FEC should market to those who are not Executives, as they already have them as customers, but rather any and all industries. The Women Liberation Movement was a demonstration of challenging society s common sense, or hegemony, which was nurtured by the dominant ideology which in this case was a gender hierarchy where men were believed to be superior to women. The primary source No More Miss America by Robin Morgan describes her experiences as a participant of the NYRF protesting against the Miss American Pageant in Atlantic City on September 7th 1968. The NYRF group discussed ten points of how the Miss American Pageant promoted the traditional woman stereotype based on racial beauty standards, submissiveness, and inferiority to men. The NYRF protest critiqued both the representation side of the behavioral expectation of traditional women as well as the structural side of the obstacles that women faced within social institutions such as labor and educational opportunities. Hardware Efficient Delta Sigma Linear Processing Circuits Abstract: This paper presents hardware efficient Delta Sigma linear processing circuits for the next generation low power VLSI device in the Internet of things (IoT). We first propose the P N pair method to manipulate both the analog value and length of a first order Delta Sigma bit sequence. We then present a binary counter method. Based on these methods, we develop Delta Sigma domain on the fly digital signal processing circuits: the Delta Sigma sum adder, average adder, and coefficient multiplier. The counter based average adder can work with both first order and higher order Delta Sigma modulators and can also be used as a coefficient multiplier. The functionalities of the proposed circuits are verified by Matlab simulation and FPGA implementation. We also compare the area and power between the proposed Delta Sigma adders and a conventional multi bit adder by synthesizing both circuits in the IBM 0.18 µm technology. Synthesis results show that the proposed Delta Sigma processing circuits can extensively reduce circuit area and power. With 100 inputs, a Delta Sigma average adder saves 94% of the silicon area and 96% of the power compared to a multi bit binary adder. The proposed circuits have the potential to be widely used in future miniaturized low power VLSI circuits. • 44. Analysis Of Hills Like White Elephants The short story Hills like White Elephants written by Ernest Hemingway contains lots of hidden meaning and symbolism. It is almost crpytic and engimatic. The story is hard to understand at first and then you start to realize that there is a much deeper meaning to the story. One has to read the entire story until the end to understand what is going on, then a second time to fully and completely comprehend the hidden meaning behind the dialogue in this short story. The story Hills like White Elephants at the surface seems to be a simple story and contains straightforward dialogue, but all of it can be analzyed and we can see that there s is a much deeper meaning behind it all. The girl named Jig suggests that the hills look like white elephants. Which is a reference to the saying the white elephant in the room . The saying the white elephant in the room means that there is something that everyone knows about and there is almost a sense of tension in the air. As if there was a white elephant in the room, everyone knows it is there but no one wants to talk about it. One example of a white elephant situation is where a family member crashed a car, but at dinner that night no one speaks of it, but that s whats on everyone s minds. The entire short story seems to reference that there is something that is going to happen to the girl but it is by her choice. At first glance it seems like she is going to do something irreversible as implied in the lines ...And once they take it away you can never take it back . Whatever she is about to do is going to change her life forever. And this choice she is going to make creates tension between her and the man, which I assume is her lover. It is clear he wants to go forward with it, he keeps telling her how simple it is and how We ll be fine afterwards, just like we were before . From everything said in the story, we can conclude that it is an abortion she is going to have. The way the girl speaks she seems to be very anxious and nervous. • 47. James Cone Essay A Black Theology of Liberation By James H. Cone Christian theology is a theology of liberation. It is a rational study of the being of God in the world in light of existential situations of an oppressed community, relating the forces of liberation to the essence of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ. (pp. 1) James H. Cone stresses the idea that theology is not universal, but tied to specific historical contexts. In A Black Theology of Liberation James, Cone explains what Black theology is and uses the Exodus story, found in the Old Testament and the life of Jesus Christ, New Testament, to give examples of the oppression and liberation. Cone believes both stories are vital and necessary in understanding God and God s relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be able to attain true freedom they must destroy all of their whiteness, become black, and try with every means possible to bring about the liberation of their new community. The oppression African Americans have felt through slavery and discrimination have made them God s chosen people, so understanding God and his will cannot be done independent of understanding their community. In fact, understanding the God of Black theology, the only true theology as Cone sees it, is not possible by white people as they are oppressors and it is not possible for them to understand the oppressed community and their condition or to understand the nature of God, as he is the God of the oppressed. In Cones discussion on Black theology he critique White theology, the theology of oppressors because even the historic Black church has been controlled by White theology and the wrongs of this theology must be shown and realized so that the true Black theology can be followed. Cone frames a theology of liberation from within the context of the Black experience of oppression, understanding the central core of the Gospels as Jesus identification with the poor and oppressed and the resurrection as the ultimate act of liberation. In Chapter 6, Cone digs deep into the New Testament and uses the New Testament as evidence on Jesus relationship to the oppressed. James Cone believed that the New ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Hiding Place Book Report The Hiding Place by Orna Jagur The Hiding Place is about Corrie ten Boom, her family, and how they helped the Jews in Holland when Germany invaded Holland in World War II. The main characters are Corrie, her older sisters Betsie and Nollie, her older brother Willem, and their father, Casper ten Boom, commonly referred to as Opa. The book starts out in January of 1937, in Haarlem, Holland. When Germany invaded Holland during the beginning of World War II, the Jews were the German soldiers and Adolf Hitler s main targets. Jews were required to wear a yellow star on their shirt, and if they walked around town during the day, they risked being taken into captivity by the German soldiers. This, among other racism against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So Corrie would take the ration cards that were hidden and give them to Jews. After a year or so, Corrie and her family ran out of places to send Jews for hiding, so they were forced to keep 7 Jews in their own house. A fellow member of the Dutch Underground warned the ten Boom family that if their house was ever to be searched by soldiers and they had Jews in their house, they d be in trouble. For families living in the country this wasn t much of a problem, but the ten Boom house (the Beje), was located on the main street of the city and around the corner from the German headquarters! Since the Beje also served as a pretty famous watch store, this could also be a problem because random people could come in during open store hours. To fix this problem, a man offered to build a secret room located somewhere in the Beje. This room is where the Jews would hide if the Beje had been broken in and searched through by the Germans. The man had built the secret room into the back of Corrie s personal bedroom. When he was done, it was completely unnoticeable to the naked eye that there was a hidden room behind her bedroom wall. For months, the 7 Jews (Eusie, Jop, Henk, Leendert, Meta, Thea, and Mary) just slept in it. On February 28th, 1944, the Secret room got its first and only time to actually hide the 7 Jews in the ten Boom household. It seemed, somehow, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exploring and Unraveling Autism Essay Autism Spectrum Disorder, known as ASD, is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders, characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior. Autistic Disorder, referred to as autism or classical ASD, is the most common and severe form of ASD. Other less severe conditions along the spectrum include Asperger s Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorder. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize. It is not completely understood as to why this occurs. Autism has a strong genetic basis and in rare cases, it is strongly associated with agents that cause birth defects. According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1943, an Austrian American psychiatrist, Dr. Leo Kanner was one of the first to specialize in child psychology and was credited with recognizing autism as its own unique mental disorder. Kanner discussed his research based on a group of eleven children who all displayed similar conditions such as social interaction difficulties, difficulty processing and adapting to changes, particularly good memory, and exceeding sensitivity to sounds and other stimulants. Kanner used the term autism to describe the main characteristics that all of the children he studied displayed little to no interest in socializing with others. Lastly, Dr. Hans Asperger, a scientist and pediatrician in the late 1900 s, also contributed research and multiple studies on children with autism. Dr. Asperger is best known in the history of autism for defining Asperger s Syndrome. Asperger s Syndrome is a less severe condition disorder along the spectrum. Asperger s Syndrome is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of cognitive development. For many years, autism was rare, occurring in just five children per 100,000 live births. • 51. Empathy Star Trek Star Trek: TNG and the Cultivation of Empathy In this paper, I argue that watching Star Trek: The Next Generation cultivates empathy. Empathy is a good that human beings ought to develop and having a sense of empathy is one of the best things in life. Empathy consists in the capacity to understand what another person is going through from their perspective. The reason that a sense of empathy is one of the best things in life is that it is impossible to have deep and meaningful relationships with others when we don t have empathy. Without empathy, we inevitably turn inward and live a lonely life. For this reason, empathy is one of the best things in life. Regular watching of Star Trek: TNG increases our capacity for empathy. The reason why this is the case is that watching acts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now characters in Star Trek: TNG routinely show empathetic concern for one another. For instance, when a race of cyborgs capture Jean Luc Picard (captain of the Enterprise on the show), the crew of the Enterprise do everything in their power to rescue Picard. One of their main motivations for rescuing Picard is their experience of the sense of distress that he experiences while in captivity. This is just one instance where empathy is shown in the program, but it happens on a regular basis. In sum, watching Star Trek: TNG increases our capacity for empathy because the characters regularly display empathy on the show and because we tend to imitate the actions that we see other human beings performing. Someone might object to this argument by pointing out that characters on the show also display cruelty that involves a lack of empathy. For instance, in one episode a malevolent being kills one of the members for the crew for no apparent reason. If we watch this cruelty, then perhaps we ourselves might behave more cruelly. But this objection can be refuted. Cruelty on the show is always shown in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
