Assignment On The Greek Vessel
For the Greek Vessel Assignment, we were to choose one of the following vessels: an amphora,
a krater, a hydria, a kylix, a lekythos, or an oinochoe. I had chose to take on the task of the
oinochoe, which is a wine dish, with a narrow body, a spout and one handle. I chose to create the
oinochoe because my mother loves wineand loves my artwork, what better reasoning to combine
the two. For the Greek Vessel we had to solve one of three problems; 1. Make the container look
like what it s used for. 2. Make the container represent an artist you fancy. 3. Make the container an
upgraded 2016 version of itself. I chose to make my oinochoe look like what it s used for. I had

Films made in the 1930 s emphasised on the monster and gore. When seen through the eyes of
the original audiences, critics and censors, the thirties Horrors were a fairly nasty lot. (3)
Dracula was the first classic Horror film in the 1930 s, which contained sound. It received
financial success as well as negative responses from critics. They saw these types of movies and
had to consider whether people would copy the violence or see the movie, as it was, that these acts
of violence were just for the story.
Frankenstein (1931), Freaks (1932) and Island of Lost Souls (1933) were movies that caused
outrage with censors in Britain. They didn t like the influence these films could have on young
teenagers, which were primarily there target audience. The British ban on horror movies were
instated in 1937, this made profit of Horror films decline so fewer films were made. This affected
Hollywood producers like Universal as their main importers was Britain. At this point you could
have said horror movies were dead, as it made no sense producing movies that could not be shown.
The dislike of the monster was not the only issue that censors had with these films, but the sexual
encounters also caused dissatisfaction. In response to this they introduced a new rating system
for horror films called H , this was to show people that the films were horrific and could only be
viewed by adults. They had to try and consider what was deemed safe for children to watch and

The, The Irate Lord Is Thermodynamic Standard
In Rifkin s cosmology, the irate Lord is thermodynamic standard. The principal law of
thermodynamics holds that all vitality is limited, always showing signs of change structure. The
second law holds that vitality dependably moves toward harmony.
As Rifkin focuses out, water streams toward a typical level, and soon thereafter it can no more fall
through a turbine. On the widespread scale, there apparently are no tides to keep the level oceans in
conceivably helpful movement, nor any vanishing to keep hot air rising and poo spouting
descending in interminability.

Entropy is somewhat clearly the primal reason for our vitality emergency: we are blazing fossil
powers we can t supplant, while the supposed atomic arrangement will require more vitality to
develop and keep up than it can ever be relied upon to come back to us.
Entropy, Rifkin additionally contends, is for the most part in charge of not just social and
monetary issues clearly coming about because of the vitality emergency, additionally for issues felt
much sooner than fossil fills ran rare. Issues of scale, for occurrence: a wrongdoing rate duplicating
geometrically as urban areas increment in size. An educational system weakening subjectively, even
as it quantitatively develops.
Here entropy gets to be not a conspicuous, quickly obvious physical rule, but rather an illustration
for what happens when establishments develop so extensive that, as with some parts of the
interstate thruway framework, a bigger number of assets most be spent on upkeep than upon really
doing whatever they should do in any case. The weapons contest, the populace blast, and our
present malignancy scourge, Rifkin cases, are all entropy exemplified.
Maybe, to a degree, since some entropy is inescapable. Yet, the connection between the amount of
data our schools confer and the amount of vitality their physical upkeep exhausts is dubious, no
doubt. We may take the same assets and contract an individual coach for each tyke on low

Herbalife Case
Herbalife is currently oversold but I predict, is poised for an increase in the upcoming quarters.
Much of this information is speculation until we can perform a basic comparative financial
analysis of Herbalife and try to conclude based on the current stock price and financials whether
the stock is overvalued, fairly valued, or undervalued. I believe that Herbalife is undervalued and
that the stockis worth much more than its current value. Herbalife continues to make strides and the
market had observed that it has experienced significant percentage changes in its revenue, EBITDA
and earnings over the past five years.
Investors across the board are not huge fans of the MLM business model. According to Ackman s
thesis, investors just want to completely avoid the stock due to the ongoing FTC investigation.
Regardless of the situation, Herbalife s (NYSE:HLF) stock is oversold and has become attractively
valuable. Herbalife has been shaky as the stock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These analysts are responsive and note that in their bear market forecasts they generally
incorporate a P/E ratio of about 7x EPS of $6 in 2015, resulting in price targets in the low $40 s. So
while they understand the risks in a ratio collapse they have not included an EPS collapse.
Collapsing both in ratio and EPS indicates the worst case scenario for Herbalife.
Since going public in 2004, Herbalife has traded at P/E ratio of about 15x. Since 2010, Herbalife
has been trading at 14.5x. If we take the average EPS of $6.25 and $7.20 for 2014 and 2015,
respectively, we can calculate the expected bullish price targets of $87 $100. This proves the
assumption of a near normal ratio in 2014 and 2015 EPS. Using average EPS for 2014 or 2015 and
a low to mid teens ratio, you get a stock price significantly higher than today s

The Seriousness Of The Savak By Richard Cmiel (1979)
On the viciousness of the SAVAK see Cmiel (1999: 1234). Richard Cottam (1979: 6) notes that the
period of the last Shah s reign were the years of seeming stability in Iran. The coercive control
apparatus, especially SAVAK (the security and information agency), convinced the Iranian people
that it was omnipresent, omniscient, and entirely ruthless. It was generally accepted in opposition
circles that the number of political prisoners was in the range of 50,000 100,000, and there were
detailed and convincing reports of brutal torture. Irans military was nearly half a million strong, and
its equipment was becoming the best that money could buy. For all but the committed core of

personnel evidently helped establish and train the SAVAK, the secret police that committed so
many crimes against the people of Iran. Yahya Armajani (1979: 16) writes that The original
purpose of SAVAK was to prevent subversion by the Communists. But the SAVAK in Iran proved to
be no better in distinguishing the subversive from the innocent than have similar organizations in

An Organisation Organization Essay
Introduction
The nature of an organisation determines the different financial statements required to be
completed annually. This report will analyse three contrasting types of entities, in addition to the
differences in the annual reports produced.
From a not for profit charity, The Salvation Army, to a large New Zealandbusiness, The Warehouse
Group and a Maori land trust, Waikato Tainui.
Users of the information
The objective of accounting reports are to provide external and internal users the information that
enables them to make improved finanical decisions. Therefore the users of the information are the
same for all entities, the types of information they are most concerned with is what differs.
Investors, creditors, employees, managers, owners and government agencies are the users of the
financial information.
The Salvation Army is a charity, this means that the investors will use the information provided by
the financial report to assess if the organisation is utilising the funds provided to assist the
community. Creditors will use the information to assess the credit worthiness of the charity to
ensure the organisation is able to pay for the goods and services. Managers will make decisions on
how to allocate the resources, employees and volunteers will use financial statements to ensure the
charity is accomplishing the mission to help people. Government agencies need this information to
ensure that the not for profit is complying with legislation.

Essay on Atticus Finch
It is widely believed that Atticus Finch is one of the greatest heroes of modern literature. My
opinion varies greatly with this remark. Atticus Finch is not a hero because he only had greater
morals than the people of his time, he wanted to be a good role model for his children, and was
only doing his job as a lawyer. It was his responsibility to defend Tom Robinson and give him an
honest trial. He may have done things out of the way, but that was just to demonstrate his point.
Atticus also never did anything for the benefit of other people. He only put himself in danger to
prove his point. One of the leading reasons to think that Atticus Finchis not a herois because he was
merely doing his job. His job as a lawyer was to defend Tom... Show more content on

Many everyday heroes such as firefighters and doctors save lives everyday. It is their job to save
the lives of people. Atticus Finch s job is not to save lives, only to provide a fair trial. Other
heroes such as Superman are constantly putting themselves in danger to protect the lives of
people. Atticus put himself in danger once to prove his point. He didn t even need to put
himself in danger. It was not necessary for his cause to put himself in danger, he only wanted to
protect Tom, which someone else could have done. It was not his job to protect Tom, only to
represent him. Atticus may have taken the case because of Scout and Jem. He wanted to be a
good role model for his children so they would look up to him and follow in his footsteps. He
wanted to set a good example for Scout and Jem and teach them to stand up for what is right. He
wanted his children to go against racial prejudice and follow what they believe. You can prove
this because in the book, Atticus tells Scout to view everybody as equals. He even has Walter
Cunningham over for dinner so he can prove this. He believes that everybody should properly
represented. Talmage Boston states in his selection of the Texas bar journal from June, 2010 that
Atticus recognizes that a lawyer has a responsibility to serve those who can t afford to pay.
(Boston, 485) It may be argued that Atticus is a hero because he defended Tom Robinson and went
against many other people in the city. A

So processes and practices that firms utilize in order to manage knowledge are really important for
attaining strategic objectives by harnessing complexity and making the best use of existing
resources and capabilities (Zack, 1999a; Zollo and Winter, 2002). It could be forecasted that
empirical study of social network would occupy an important position in the field of management
and the guiding role of the research would become more obvious.( Yonghai, Y,2010)
Several years ago, one of the major challenges in knowledge management is to explore creative
ways to convert the tacit knowledge base in organisations into explicit knowledge (Nonaka,
1994). But with the development of social network and social media, this challenge seems already
had a good solution. Now more and more researchers have already realized the importance of social
networks and social Medias to the KM.
Knowledge management
Recently, knowledge management (KM) has already been recognized as a key instrument to
improve effectiveness and performance in the organization (Zack et al., 2009). The OECD has
recognised that knowledge and technology have become drivers of productivity and economic
growth in modern economies in 1996.

Capacity Planning Capacity requirements planning (CRP) provide feasibility check of these
schedules. Capacity requirements planning matches planned production with actual capacity to

unable to hit curve balls, but you can t throw one. You lose your self confidence and throw a

Important Aspects of a Free Market
Discuss some important aspects of the free enterprise system or capitalism.
Three essential principles of capitalism are: production is organized for the market, the means of
production are privately owned, and investment is privately controlled, and the people who use
those means of production to produce goods and services, that is workers, are hired on a labor
market to work in firms as employees. Capitalism is a form of market economy in which production
and investment are privately controlled, and the work of production is performed by employees,
hired from free labor markets. Capitalism is essential to the function of society due to the
opportunities that it creates and the augmentation of an individual s vitality. Individuals can ... Show

One could say, this is libertarianism, where individual freedom is the paramount social value, where
freedom is determined by your own volition. Economics is simply incentivized behavior, the issue
with this is, when money becomes the incentive, does everything else go out the window? As
we saw in the Great Recession how the sub prime loans fiasco rippled through our economy and
eventually the world. As we can see, there are positive and negative aspects of free enterprise,
yet I feel that hope and inspiration of the potential to be able to augment ones vitality is essential
in maintaining social order, keeping society efficient, and excelling forward. I want to be clear;
I do not view the United States as a free enterprise. I believe most aspect are, but when more than
half of the total output of the country is being distributed in a way that is determined by the
government, the term collectivizing or Keynesian economics is more appropriate. As Dr.
Friedman states, Everybody knows that the way to develop and to improve the lot of people is
through private markets, free enterprise and small government. We re not practicing what we
should be preaching. I ve been saying that the former communist states are trying as hard as they

The Benefits of Cloning Essay
The Advantages of Cloning
The first successfully cloned mammal was created on February of 1997. It was a breakthrough in
scientific research when the Scottish scientists cloned a sheep by the name of Dolly. The method
of cloning requires the extraction of DNA from anywhere on a subject s body and inserting that
DNA into a woman s egg. Worldwide attention was turned to the prospect of humancloning and
with a push for sweeping prohibition (Tribe 459) legislatures around the world banned any
research related to cloning because of its nature. To get rid of cloning research would be very

A cloned person is just like a twin, only years apart. A cloned person has its own personality
because it is the environment and experiences that make the person. Any beliefs that clones are
mindless human beings are wrong. Many assume the worst that the worst could happen. People
always assume the worst, recall The Boys From Brazil, a story of identical offspring of Adolf
Hitler being raised in order to further his horrible work (Wilson 463). The prevailing belief that
people will start cloning a master race or clone Hitler is unrealistic. The cloning of humans will
not depreciate humanity. Instead it will be a bonus to mankind. Even if Hitler were to be cloned, it
wouldn t mean that the clone would be like or even succeed in continuing the original Hitler s plan.
Another concern and the strongest of the arguments that many have is that it goes against Gods

that is wrong, many assert. There was similar criticism of the aforementioned birth control pills and
organ transplant surgery but they have
gradually gained acceptance. When revolutionary advances occur there are always those who
oppose it because it disrupts the normality of things.
Another primary argument is the fact that as of now the cloning technology is too risky. Dolly was

Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture
Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy.
Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets
individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will
not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This
has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking
software for businesses (Hoge, 2012).
Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of
Strategic Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to
the strategic, looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and
utilizing the human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998).
Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and
execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel
part of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and
co workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost
all stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee
Empowerment, 2011).

Case #19
Compass Records
Synopsis and Objectives
The cofounders of Compass Records, a small, independent music recording company, must decide
whether to produce and own the next album of an up and coming folk musician, or simply license
her finished recording. The case presents information sufficient to build cash flow forecasts for
either investment alternative. The task for the students is to build a valuation model for the two
capital investment alternatives, whereby they can evaluate the attractiveness of the investment
based on net present value (NPV) and the internal rate of return (IRR) of the discounted cash flows
(DCF). Further, the student will have the opportunity to interpret those results and to test those

Making either/or Project Decisions
Virtually all general managers face capital budgeting decisions in the course of their careers. Among
the most common of these is the either/or choice about a capital investment. The following
describes some general guidelines to orient the decision maker in these situations.
1.Focus on cash flows, not profits. One wants to get as close as possible to the economic reality of
the project. Accounting profits contain many kinds of economic fiction. Flows of cash, on the other
hand, are economic facts.
2.Account for time. Time is money. We prefer to receive cash sooner rather than later. Use net
present value as a technique to summarize the quantitative attractiveness of the project. Quite
simply, NPV can be interpreted as the amount by which the market

Walt Disney Controversy
Walt Disney was well known for being a patriarch in the animation industry. His employees,
numbering 800+, were the most experienced and well paid in the whole field. Just less than a
decade earlier, Walt and his studio had struck gold with the success of the first ever full length
animated feature film, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. The film had become, at the time, the
most successful sound movie ever. Walt had decided to take a large sum of the profit from Snow
White and use it to finance a new animation studio located in Burbank, California the same studio
that Disney operates out of today. Profits were also used to fund new ventures into the largely
undiscovered world of animation and stereophonic sound. However, behind the curtains... Show

Difficult circumstances often evoke critical responses from those who experience them. In many
cases, individuals who are subject to adversity are able to utilize abilities that they would never

prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant. This statement is true in many ways;

The Ring Of Monocromatic Houses Essay
The choice of the setting itself, narrowed by an architectonical ring of monocromatic houses,
echoes the same sense of claustrophobic immobility to which Jefferies is subject. While he is a
temporary prisoner whitin his own flat, his possibilities as an observer are similarly limited and so
are the spectators ones. Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted
violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters
awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them
unconsciously embodies. Therefore, after the credits, a barely distinguishable threesome appears on
the top edge of the frame, standing on a corner terrace, as to represent its marginality. Subsequently,
the camera flows on the main building, enclosing its windows and producing a meta framing
mechanism, which might be defined as a cinematic matryoska effect. In the matter of the opening
scene, the framing arrangement is a pre eminent feature. The eye of the camera is always working
within the courtyard, occasionally shooting sparse glimpses from the road. One might find
interesting the initial state of the leading character, whose face is shown through a medium shot,
sleeping on a wheelchair he is temporarily confined to; in terms of perspective, this is the only
moment throughout the whole film in which the camera does not matches Jeffrey s view. The
viewers are provided with an autonomous

Exceptions to this pattern of stability were the marked increase of the Albanian population and a
steep decline in the numbers of Jews, ethnic Germans, and Hungarians after World War II
(Cushman). Another definitive cause of the Yugoslavian breakup was the nationalism of ethnic
groups in the early 1990s. Nationalism replaced communism as the dominant ideology in the
country. Slovenia and then Croatia were the first to break away, but this caused Serbia to become
hostile towards the two nations. Consequently, the war in Croatia led to hundreds of thousands of
refugees and also brought back memories of the harsh acts of the Nazis in the 1940s. By 1992 a
further conflict had broken out in Bosnia, which had also succeeded from Yugoslavia. The Serbs
who lived there were determined in remaining within Yugoslavia and to help build a more
homogenous Serbia. They received strong backing from radical groups in Belgrade. Muslims
were driven from their homes in carefully planned operations that become known as ethnic

Western Powers And Human Rights
Human rights have been described as a gift of the West to the rest. Discuss with reference to the
politics of multiculturalism.
The oxford dictionary describes human rights as a right which is believed to belong to every
person (Oxford Dictionary, 2016). Until the late 1940s, human rights were simply an ideal or
concept, but the newly formed United Nations declaration of human rights clearly set out in statute
a human beings rights. The late 1940s was a time of political turbulence, with Western powers
wielding huge amounts of control in organisations such as the United Nations. In this essay I will
argue that although Western powers may have attempted to deliver human rights to the wider
world, they have for the most part failed. Instead, most notably America and Britain have been
involved in endless human rights violations. The United Nations doctrine set out in 1948 has failed
to convince countries with strict religious doctrine to embrace human rights for all individuals.
Even the European Court of human rights has been accused of making decisions which many view
as stripping religious minorities of certain human rights. The West may have attempted to create a
global community who cherishes human rights, however this cannot occur until Western powers
themselves honour human rights. They must also attempt to understand that certain non Western
countries with differing religious and political beliefs do not share the Western notion of human
rights so vehemently

Analysis Of The Dance Field By Frank Lloyd Wright
On May 11, 1894 in Allegany City, Pennsylvania soon to be Pittsburg, Pennsylvania a legend was
born. Little did Jane and George Graham know that their last name would have worldwide
recognition thanks to their daughter, Martha. Martha Graham s work in the dance field has been
compared to Picasso s work in visual arts, Frank Lloyd Wright s work in architecture, and the
influence of Stravinsky on music. The Graham family moved to California in the 1910 s, and
when Graham was 17, she went to see her first ever danceperformance. She saw Ruth St. Denis, a
modern dancepioneer, perform in Los Angeles. Graham was so inspired that she begged her
parents to allow her to study dance. Being strong Presbyterians, her parents didn t exactly support
the idea. Despite what her parents thought, Graham enrolled herself in an arts oriented junior
college. After her father died, she started attending the new Denishawn School of Dancing and

Essay on Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who lived between 1671 1630.
Kepler was a Copernican and initially believed that planets should follow perfectly circular orbits
( Johan Kepler 1). During this time period, Ptolemy s geocentric theory of the solar system was
accepted. Ptolemy s theory stated that Earth is at the center of the universe and stationary; closest
to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, expanding towards the outside, are Mercury, Venus, and the
Sun in a straight line, followed by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the fixed stars . The Ptolemaic system
explained the numerous observed motions of the planets as having small spherical orbits called
epicycles ( Astronomy 2). Kepler is best known for introducing three... Show more content on

His first law states, The orbits of the planets are ellipses, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse.
As shown in Figure 1, The Sun is not at the focus of the ellipse, but is instead at one focus [usually
there is nothing at the other focus of the ellipse]. The planet then trails the ellipse in its orbit, which
implies that the Earth Sun distance is continually changing as the planet goes around its orbit.
Kepler s second law states, The line joining the planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal
times as the planet travels around the ellipse. As shown in Figure 2, an imaginary line from the
center of the sun to the center of a planet sweeps out the same area in a given time. This means
that planets move faster when they are closer to the sun. Kepler s third and final law states, The
time taken by a planet to make one complete trip around the sun is its period. The ratio of the
squares of periodic times for two planets is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their mean distances
from the sun. Kepler s third law indicates that the time taken by a planet to orbit the Sun increases
quickly with the radius of its orbit ( Johannes Kepler: The 1 4). Kepler s laws challenged
Aristotelean and Ptolemaic astronomy. His statement that the Earth

Essay On Invasive Species
Introduction Paragraph:
What is an invasive species? I believe an invasive species is an animal that has either come to a
new environment on purpose or accident and caused harm by doing so. I became interested in
this topic because animals are interesting to me. I did not consider any other topics. When I saw
the topic I immediately went to research it. I knew bits and pieces of some stories invasive species
give. New invasive species come every day because of humans and their ideas on what is best.
The Search:
When searching this subject, all I searched for on google was invasive species. Looking at the
websites listed, most of them, I found, gave me the same information, almost word for word. This
troubled me until I bumped into a website that was made by the National Wildlife Federation. The
website listed is the website I used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Fruits of My Search: My biggest concern and surprise that caught me off guard when
searching this topic was that most of the animals seem harmless at first, but then they turn into an
enemy to me by the end because of what they have caused. The article I cited above states,
Approximately 42% of Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to invasive
species. This is nerve racking. It is basically saying that 42% of threatened and endangered species
became that way because of invasive species. Another concept that I thought was interesting, was
the fact that us humans are invasive. Invasive species are species that invade a new habitat. We
have done that many times. Think of the place we are right now, North America. Explorers came to
north america to find native americans and harsh conditions, so obviously we were not striving in
the new land. With time our population grew and soon we drove out almost the entire native
american existence. One thing that caused a personal experience of mine

Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By...
In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of
fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are
an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different
types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are
linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff.
They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and
pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks,
buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the
non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and
sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to
travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water
from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water
shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the
ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully,
the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would
be comparable to drilling oil

The Benefits of Human Genetic Engineering Essay
Pre implantation genetic diagnosis is a revolutionary procedure that utilizes in vitro fertilization
to implant a healthy egg cell into the mother s uterus after it is screened for mutations or other
abnormalities. That way, only healthy eggs can develop to term and become beautiful, bouncing
boys or girls. Designer babies have a bright future in the face of science because they are
genetically engineered to be: disease free; viable donors for a sibling or parent; and with optional
elimination of any severe cosmetic disorders that might develop, without risk to human diversity in
the future. One of the most well known, wide spread, and enigmatic diseases on this Earth is cancer.
It sneaks its way into family blood lines and travels... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If money were not in the equation, this might someday be a viable cure for cancers. If geneticists
screened every embryo and removed the cancerous genes, they could potentially exterminate the
disease! This would take years and not every child could be accounted for, but it would be a start.
Embryo Screening is a Godsend for couples who might have otherwise passed on an inherited
disease like Huntington s. Huntington s disease is degenerative, destroying nerve cells in the
brain and affecting the use of muscles and hindering cognitive thinking. The onset of
[Huntington s Disease] symptoms... [can] occur anywhere from 40 to 70 years of age
(Norrgard). Most parents, at the time of onset, have already passed on the disease to their kids
without knowing it. Pre implantation could have prevented this from occurring. But what if the
disease was a disability instead, like deafness or blindness? Most families turn to embryo
screening as a way to ferret out harmful genes and eliminate disability but there is another side to
PGD called negative enhancement . On this flip side, The technique [of PGD] also may... [be
used] to select an embryo likely to have the same disease or disability, such as deafness, that
affects the parents (Naik). A child who shared the parents disability would grow up accustomed and
suited to the lifestyle, whereas a child not born with that disability might not be as comfortable in a
household tailored

Levee Case Study New Orleans
Define and analyze the problem
New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and
Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive
Mississippi river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French
colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was
considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world
due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the
other hand, the city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found
the site unsuitable for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... Show more content on

They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel
resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the
levee system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and
suggested the creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river
naturally forming a deeper channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A.
Humphreys and the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee
system allowed the river to deepen its channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from
scouring the river bed, and eventually levees would result in raising the river. However, he also
admitted that by careful management, levees could be built to withstand flooding from the river,
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Levee exclusive approach could work but there are many concerned

Comparing Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid Offred And The Talk
Disempowerment leads to a loss of individual identity, the absolute power of leadership forcing
citizens quiet, out of fear. A lowly Handmaid Offred, narrates Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid
s Tale giving us a personal insight into her thoughts and memories, how total control has impacted
on individuals through a unique perspective on the new society: from point of view of the
oppressed. Similarly, Michael D Antuono s The Talk displays the corruption in leadership,
subsequently creating a society where people fear the enforcers of law, where African American
parents have to tell their children they are not safe. Oppression of individual power leads to its
irresponsible use when granted, as individual identity is lost and must be regained.

Much of this information is speculation until we can perform a basic comparative financial analysis of Herbalife and try to conclude based on the current stock price and financials whether the stock is overvalued, fairly valued, or undervalued. I believe that Herbalife is undervalued and that the stockis worth much more than its current value. Herbalife continues to make strides and the market had observed that it has experienced significant percentage changes in its revenue, EBITDA and earnings over the past five years. Investors across the board are not huge fans of the MLM business model. According to Ackman s thesis, investors just want to completely avoid the stock due to the ongoing FTC investigation. This report will analyse three contrasting types of entities, in addition to the differences in the annual reports produced. Atticus Finch is not a hero because he only had greater morals than the people of his time, he wanted to be a good role model for his children, and was only doing his job as a lawyer. It was his responsibility to defend Tom Robinson and give him an honest trial. He may have done things out of the way, but that was just to demonstrate his point. Atticus also never did anything for the benefit of other people. He only put himself in danger to prove his point. Other heroes such as Superman are constantly putting themselves in danger to protect the lives of people. Atticus put himself in danger once to prove his point. He didn t even need to put himself in danger. It was not necessary for his cause to put himself in danger, he only wanted to protect Tom, which someone else could have done. It was not his job to protect Tom, only to represent him. Atticus may have taken the case because of Scout and Jem. He wanted to be a good role model for his children so they would look up to him and follow in his footsteps. He wanted to set a good example for Scout and Jem and teach them to stand up for what is right. He wanted his children to go against racial prejudice and follow what they believe. You can prove this because in the book, Atticus tells Scout to view everybody as equals. He even has Walter Cunningham over for dinner so he can prove this. He believes that everybody should properly represented. Talmage Boston states in his selection of the Texas bar journal from June, 2010 that Atticus recognizes that a lawyer has a responsibility to serve those who can t afford to pay. • 21. The Benefits of Cloning Essay The Advantages of Cloning The first successfully cloned mammal was created on February of 1997. It was a breakthrough in scientific research when the Scottish scientists cloned a sheep by the name of Dolly. The method of cloning requires the extraction of DNA from anywhere on a subject s body and inserting that DNA into a woman s egg. Worldwide attention was turned to the prospect of humancloning and with a push for sweeping prohibition (Tribe 459) legislatures around the world banned any research related to cloning because of its nature. To get rid of cloning research would be very harmful and detrimental to society. If cloning humans is allowed then it will benefit us all because of the medical advances and understands that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A cloned person is just like a twin, only years apart. A cloned person has its own personality because it is the environment and experiences that make the person. Any beliefs that clones are mindless human beings are wrong. Many assume the worst that the worst could happen. People always assume the worst, recall The Boys From Brazil, a story of identical offspring of Adolf Hitler being raised in order to further his horrible work (Wilson 463). The prevailing belief that people will start cloning a master race or clone Hitler is unrealistic. The cloning of humans will not depreciate humanity. Instead it will be a bonus to mankind. Even if Hitler were to be cloned, it wouldn t mean that the clone would be like or even succeed in continuing the original Hitler s plan. Another concern and the strongest of the arguments that many have is that it goes against Gods will (Wilson 463). Since reproduction through copulation is the norm everything that goes against that is wrong, many assert. There was similar criticism of the aforementioned birth control pills and organ transplant surgery but they have gradually gained acceptance. When revolutionary advances occur there are always those who oppose it because it disrupts the normality of things. Another primary argument is the fact that as of now the cloning technology is too risky. Dolly was the only lamb to emerge out of 277 attempts, and we still do not know how long she ... Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Situation Moving Human Resources into an Employee Empowerment Culture Issue Employees are no longer content to work in an environment of adversity and autocracy. Instead, the decade long tradition of the Human Rights Movement for more than one generation lets individuals know that empowerment, change, respect, and actualization are powerful tools that will not only benefit employees, but increase productivity and profits for owners and managers. This has been the case for Yammer, the San Francisco based company that makes social networking software for businesses (Hoge, 2012). Theory Empowerment theory is tied up in Total Quality Management and the new models of Strategic Human Resource Management. Both TQM and SHRM move from simply the tactical to the strategic, looking at long term results, development of employees, retention as a strategy, and utilizing the human element as part of the overall business planning cycle (Wilkinson, 1998). Results Empowerment theory allows the organization as a whole to participate in the planning and execution process of the company. It allows non managerial staff members to take ownership, feel part of a larger whole, and increase their own performance as well as that of their departments and co workers. Using empowerment theory, absences decrease, job satisfaction increases, and almost all stakeholders report a more positive working experience and environment (Employee Empowerment, 2011). Additionally, an intense orchestra soundtrack, involving either light hearted violins and grave drums to fuel the viewers curiosity, is progressively softened as the characters awake and start practicing their habits, according to the stereotyped lifestyle each of them unconsciously embodies. In his article, Erik Haagensen analyzes Mike Nichols2012 production of Death of a Salesman, particularly how it fails to revive the play due to poor casting. Haagensen compliments Wittrock s ability to find the balance between Happy s flirtatious, superficial side and his zealous, family oriented side. Haagensen laments that Wittrock would have been a much better Biff than Garfield. Portraying Linda Loman is none other than Linda Emond, who challenges how audiences have previously perceived Linda Loman. Rather than the submissive wife, Emond portrays Linda as a fiery mother who goes toe to toe with her husband and children. Haagensen suggests that while she gives a strong performance, certain choices in delivery make some moments fall flat. Another character Haagensen makes note of is Willy s dead brother Ben, played by John Glover. The character, which is presented as a figment of Willy s mind, is portrayed by Glover with ...a heightened energy that transcends naturalism (Haagensen 18). Haagensen claims the production has both positive casting choices, but also very negative ones. However, to him, the negatives far outweigh the positives. In Haagensen s review, the casting choices made by Nichols singlehandedly stifle the potential of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of The Dance Field By Frank Lloyd Wright On May 11, 1894 in Allegany City, Pennsylvania soon to be Pittsburg, Pennsylvania a legend was born. Little did Jane and George Graham know that their last name would have worldwide recognition thanks to their daughter, Martha. Martha Graham s work in the dance field has been compared to Picasso s work in visual arts, Frank Lloyd Wright s work in architecture, and the influence of Stravinsky on music. The Graham family moved to California in the 1910 s, and when Graham was 17, she went to see her first ever danceperformance. She saw Ruth St. Denis, a modern dancepioneer, perform in Los Angeles. Graham was so inspired that she begged her parents to allow her to study dance. Being strong Presbyterians, her parents didn t exactly support the idea. Despite what her parents thought, Graham enrolled herself in an arts oriented junior college. After her father died, she started attending the new Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts, founded by St. Denis and her husband, Ted Shawn. What Graham learned there would fundamentally shape her dancing style moving forward. Pretty soon Graham s technique was strong enough to start working professionally as a dancer. Her passionate, emotional performance style gained her the attention of the nation. As the years progressed, Graham transitioned from performer to choreographer. The life of a dancer isn t always well funded, so when Graham was offered teaching opportunities in New York City, she took them. In 1926, at age ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Essay on Johannes Kepler Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who lived between 1671 1630. Kepler was a Copernican and initially believed that planets should follow perfectly circular orbits ( Johan Kepler 1). During this time period, Ptolemy s geocentric theory of the solar system was accepted. Ptolemy s theory stated that Earth is at the center of the universe and stationary; closest to Earth is the Moon, and beyond it, expanding towards the outside, are Mercury, Venus, and the Sun in a straight line, followed by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the fixed stars . The Ptolemaic system explained the numerous observed motions of the planets as having small spherical orbits called epicycles ( Astronomy 2). Kepler is best known for introducing three... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His first law states, The orbits of the planets are ellipses, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse. As shown in Figure 1, The Sun is not at the focus of the ellipse, but is instead at one focus [usually there is nothing at the other focus of the ellipse]. The planet then trails the ellipse in its orbit, which implies that the Earth Sun distance is continually changing as the planet goes around its orbit. Kepler s second law states, The line joining the planet to the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal times as the planet travels around the ellipse. As shown in Figure 2, an imaginary line from the center of the sun to the center of a planet sweeps out the same area in a given time. This means that planets move faster when they are closer to the sun. Kepler s third and final law states, The time taken by a planet to make one complete trip around the sun is its period. The ratio of the squares of periodic times for two planets is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their mean distances from the sun. Kepler s third law indicates that the time taken by a planet to orbit the Sun increases quickly with the radius of its orbit ( Johannes Kepler: The 1 4). Kepler s laws challenged Aristotelean and Ptolemaic astronomy. His statement that the Earth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay On Invasive Species Introduction Paragraph: What is an invasive species? I believe an invasive species is an animal that has either come to a new environment on purpose or accident and caused harm by doing so. I became interested in this topic because animals are interesting to me. I did not consider any other topics. When I saw the topic I immediately went to research it. I knew bits and pieces of some stories invasive species give. New invasive species come every day because of humans and their ideas on what is best. The Search: When searching this subject, all I searched for on google was invasive species. Looking at the websites listed, most of them, I found, gave me the same information, almost word for word. This troubled me until I bumped into a website that was made by the National Wildlife Federation. The website listed is the website I used for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Fruits of My Search: My biggest concern and surprise that caught me off guard when searching this topic was that most of the animals seem harmless at first, but then they turn into an enemy to me by the end because of what they have caused. The article I cited above states, Approximately 42% of Threatened or Endangered species are at risk primarily due to invasive species. This is nerve racking. It is basically saying that 42% of threatened and endangered species became that way because of invasive species. Another concept that I thought was interesting, was the fact that us humans are invasive. Invasive species are species that invade a new habitat. We have done that many times. Think of the place we are right now, North America. Explorers came to north america to find native americans and harsh conditions, so obviously we were not striving in the new land. With time our population grew and soon we drove out almost the entire native american existence. One thing that caused a personal experience of mine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of The Scholarly Article Offshore Aquifers By... In the scholarly article Offshore Aquifers by Renee Martin Nagle, she discusses the discovery of fresh water sources being found in the ocean. Nagle talks about the water shortage not only are an issue for California, but also the entire world. She talks about how there are two different types of aquifers, recharging and non recharging aquifers. Recharging aquifers are aquifers are linked with the surface and receive its water reserves from rainwater, streams, rivers, and runoff. They are commonly found close to the surface. They are more susceptible to over use and pollution. Non recharging aquifers are usually found deep beneath the surface, and porous rocks, buried beneath a solid layer of sedimentary limestone or dolomite rock. The water found in the non recharging aquifers arrives there because it gets trapped there when tectonic plates shift, and sea levels where much lower 20,000 years ago when the Siberian land bridge allowed humans to travel from Asia to the Americas. Nagle also discussed both pro s and con s of extracting the water from the ocean. It will not be an easy task because while the United States is fighting a water shortage, attempting to mine the water from the ocean could cause huge irreversible damage to the ecosystem of the ocean and pollution to the environment. If the drilling is not done very carefully, the entire water supplycould be contaminated. Nagle discusses that the underwater drilling would be comparable to drilling oil ... The Benefits of Human Genetic Engineering Essay Pre implantation genetic diagnosis is a revolutionary procedure that utilizes in vitro fertilization to implant a healthy egg cell into the mother s uterus after it is screened for mutations or other abnormalities. That way, only healthy eggs can develop to term and become beautiful, bouncing boys or girls. Designer babies have a bright future in the face of science because they are genetically engineered to be: disease free; viable donors for a sibling or parent; and with optional elimination of any severe cosmetic disorders that might develop, without risk to human diversity in the future. • 48. Levee Case Study New Orleans Define and analyze the problem New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive Mississippi river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the other hand, the city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found the site unsuitable for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the levee system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and suggested the creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river naturally forming a deeper channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A. Humphreys and the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee system allowed the river to deepen its channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from scouring the river bed, and eventually levees would result in raising the river. However, he also admitted that by careful management, levees could be built to withstand flooding from the river, (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Levee exclusive approach could work but there are many concerned with its ability to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lowly Handmaid Offred, narrates Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale giving us a personal insight into her thoughts and memories, how total control has impacted on individuals through a unique perspective on the new society: from point of view of the oppressed. Similarly, Michael D Antuono s The Talk displays the corruption in leadership, subsequently creating a society where people fear the enforcers of law, where African American parents have to tell their children they are not safe. Oppression of individual power leads to its irresponsible use when granted, as individual identity is lost and must be regained. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
