Development And Sustainability Of A Sustainable Development
Development and sustainability
Borgese (1995) defined the basic meaning of the term sustainable development as that of
Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their
own needs
The UN development goals were set out on 25th of September 2015 to be achieved by 2030,
originally 17 goals were set out to cover a wide range of issues such as environmental, political, social
that were aimed to make changing sustainability internationally achievable.
Out of the 17 goals, I believe that goal 14 is one goal that will become ever more important and the
issues raised will need to be resolved in the coming years. Goal 14 Life below water set out to
conserve sustainably use the oceans, sea and marine resources for sustainable development. The goal
set out to achieve reduced pollution of human land based activities such as oil spills. Also, to protect
marine and coastal ecosystems this will strengthen the resilience and making healthy productive
oceans. Also, to minimise the impacts of ocean acidification. Effectively regulate harvesting of the
oceans, to end overfishing and illegal and unregulated fishing. To restore the fish stocks in the shortest
time possible. Also, to increase scientific knowledge, and implement international laws to increase the
economic benefits to small developing island communities.
Another problem that countries will have to deal with in the near future will be the pollution that is
caused by human

Moon Landing Exploratory Essay
Moon Landing 1969
Ignition sequence starts, three, two, one, all engine running, zero, lift off. On July 16th 9:32 a.m.,
Apollo 11 was successfully launched as millions watched. Indeed, the lunar mission of the Apollo 11
was a new break through in the field of space exploration. Soon after, however, many controversies
were raised on the authenticity of this event. Many critics of the lunar landing believe that this event
was a hoax perpetuated to deceive the society. The debate, whether the moon landing of 1969 was a
hoax or a true event, continues today.
The space race, during the Cold War, all started with the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik

Even if scientists wanted to make something like a Moon rock by, say, bombarding an Earth rock with
high energy atomic nuclei, they couldn t (Phillips). In addition, Phillip C. Plait agrees with Tony
Phillips and comes to the same conclusions. For example he states there are no stars in the picture
because, The stars are too faint to be seen in the images (Plait 159). However, unlike Tony Phillips,
Plait explains the scientific reasons in depth. He claims astronauts have survived the incredibly high
temperature of the Moon due to simple date counting. He explains, Moon spins on its axis once every
27 days ... [which] means ... two weeks of sunlight and two weeks of darkness... the surface doesn t
heat up the instant the sunlight touches it...It takes days for the lunar surface to get to its high
temperature... (Plait 166).
The author of the paper believes the moon landing of 1969 really happened. The main reasons coming
to this conclusion is that the lies could not be told by such huge amount of people and the theories can
be all explained and understood with a little studying on physics and astronomy. If this were a hoax,
more than a handful of people would have spoken up the secret. The author of this paper also believes
that the photos and the films from NASA are real evidences, but have been misinterpreted due to the
lack of knowledge on astronomy and physics. This topic still remains to be debated over because the
moon landing was

determine whether these macros were not only successful, but also easy to use and efficient, their
results and were compared to those of manual analysis. Both the results outputted by the macros and
by manual analysis seem to be in concordance, as the mean difference between them was 2.07% (p

macros perform the analysis to completion within 30 minutes, while it takes 190 minutes to complete
to complete it manually (p=0.0079, p0.05). 1.3. DIV10 WT mitochondria travel significantly faster

Basic Structure of an APA Style Paper
Basic Structure of an APA Style Paper
Abstract
APA (American Psychological Association) Style writing is widely used across all fields of study and
is regularly used to cite sources within the social sciences. This paper details the basic structure of an
APA paper, provides resources and tips to assist authors during the writing process. As stated by the
Publication Manual of the APA, an abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of the
article; it allows readers to survey the contents of an article quickly and, like a title, it enables persons
interested in the document to retrieve it from abstracting and indexing databases (2010, p. 25).
Applying and understanding the method of APA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Direct quotations must equal the original source exactly, word for word. The source of the quotation
must be cited. The organization of direct quotations may vary with the placement of the quoted
material in the sentence. The author s last name, the year of publication, the website title or section
title, and the paragraph number, when no page number is available, are included in the citation.
Quotations that contain fewer than forty words are enclosed in double quotation marks within the text.
Use single quotation marks for quotations contained within a direct quotation. Use double quotation
marks to indicate a quotation within the block quotation. Paraphrasing allows the writer to present
someone else s ideas and acknowledges the original author.
The Reference page will begin on a new page. References are designed to document the sources a
writer uses so the reader knows where the original information derived from and it acknowledges the
original author s work. Hanging indentation is used for the reference page. In a hanging indent, the
first line of the reference rests against the left margin, and the lines that follow are indented five to
seven spaces. The reference page is alphabetized by author or by title of the work when no author is
listed, and each entry contains the date of publication in parentheses right after

Essay about Racist Positivism in Latin America
The mutability of the postcolonial relationship between Indians and the republics becomes most
apparent after 1850. The ideals of liberty and equality went astray in the late nineteenth century being
destabilized by an upswing of another form political policy, liberalism. This liberalism was
interwoven with racism and sexism, and colored by positivist interpretations of science, society and
knowledge that were becoming common currency in Western Europe.
In order to understand the reaction to liberal policies of native populations in the late nineteenth and
early twentieth century, it is important to focus on the scientific method that was applied to social
phenomenon at the time. These new urban elites embraced the scientific ... Show more content on

The elites believed themselves to be closer to the progressive goal of European whiteness and that the
lower classes did not have the racial purity necessary to participate in national progress. The theory of
scientific racism was also used to justify the heavy handed, often violent treatment of the peasant
population. After all, the theory of positivism contended that the peasants were a lower race, and
justified exploitation under the guise of supervision and regulation. Positivism was especially suited to
reform because of its practical, disciplinary, and authoritarian inclinations (Larson p.64). The elites
plan to transform the republic into a better nation was part of a larger plan to put themselves on the
same progressive track as other European nations.
The Creole elite of Colombia were the first among the Andean republics to associate economic
retardation with the concept of racial weakness (Larson p.75). The convergence of postcolonial
concepts of class and race were used to blame poverty and misery on the victim, through fault of their
inferior race (Larson p.81). In Colombia, the liberal elite s plan to transform society into a more
progressive state was to gradually blend any kind of indigenous or African race with white European
immigrants, therefore whitening the population as a whole. The main source of the whitening
population was to come from European immigrants brought in to fill the gap left by the

Although some years the value did decrease by a few percent, in 2012 the gross profit margin is the
highest it has ever been since the fruition of the business.
Net Profit Margin o In summary this analysis shows the percent of every dollar in sales that is profit.
As seen in Figure 1, in the Appendix, the boxes highlighted in red showcase the net profit margin
values. From 2007 lululemon has had growth in their net profit margin, which in summary showcases
their ability to be an efficient business resulting in increased profitability. From 2007, with a net profit
margin of 5% to a current net profit margin of 18% in 2012, lululemon is essentially making $0.18
profit for every dollar in revenue.
Key Conclusions
Based off lululemon s comprehensive financial data, it shows continuous growth and stability in
revenue and profits. This fused with effective cost controlling measures allow for greater profitability
year to year. With lululemon s strategy primarily focusing on growing the store base and filling those
stores with differentiated products, it puts emphasis towards capital expenditures being made by the
organization. It can be assumed heavy efforts are being placed on Research and Development, which
adhere to luluemon s strategy of developing next generation fabrics that make their products superior
to competition.
Additional research would be toward the site selection of future lululemon corporate owned stores.

Genocide And The Holocaust
Genocide is one of the most tragic events that can happen around the world. Identifying the stages is
the most crucial part of stopping these horrible acts. The Bosnian Genocide and the Holocaust could
have been prevented or stopped if the 8 stages were properly identified . There are 8 stages of
genocide and the first stage is Classification. Classification is putting people into groups based on
race, ethnicity, and religion. These groups usually are separated into the superior people and the
inferior people. In the holocaust the Nazis targeted minorities, more specifically the Jewish people.
The Jews were seen as the inferior race and they needed to be eliminated according to the nazis. The
second stage of genocide is symbolization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage of genocide is called polarization. Polarization is where they separate the population. The
SS and Nazis used propaganda to convince the german population the the Jewish people were the root
of all evil. They used posters and videos to make this happen. Poster depicted Jews as being ape like
with large noses and a slanted forehead. The most prevalent example of this is the Hitler Youth, they
were brainwashed using propaganda so they would believe that everything Hitler said was morally
right. The people that rebelled and did not believe the propaganda were eliminated. The next stage of
genocide and the first step of the systematic killing is preparation. Preparation is when the target group
is put together and combined to make it easier for extermination. In the Bosnian Genocide men and
women were moved to concentration camps where they would be held until they were killed. The
Serbs overthrew the law enforcement and roamed the streets rounding up Bosniaks, making sure none
got away. They executed anyone that was thought to be strong enough to rebel instantly. The most
gruesome stage of Genocide is Extermination. Extermination is the killing of the targeted group. They
use the word extermination because they do not view the victims as humans and they are making them
feel like rats or insects by using this term. In the Holocaust they had many ways of killing the Jews,
the SS and Nazis used, starvation, exhaustion, mobile shooting squads, and gas

Term Limits Should Not Be Beneficial
Debate Paper
Putting limits on the amount of terms a member of Congress can serve is a highly debated issue. Many
people are against term limits. They argue that term limits are unconstitutional and that they infringe
on the rights of the American people to choose who they want to represent their states. However,
many people also argue that term limits would be beneficial. Term limits would be beneficial because
it would put an end to career politicians, give new people a chance to solve the nation s problems, and
limit corruption.
The founding fathers left nothing about term limits for any political office in the Constitution. George
Washington set the precedent for term limits when he retired after two terms in office. Most presidents
after him also stopped running after two terms. Franklin Roosevelt was the only president with more
than two terms. He ran and was elected four times, though he died in the beginning of his fourth term.
After his four terms, the twenty second amendment was passed in 1951. The amendment says that no
one should be elected to office more than twice. In 1995, the idea of term limits in Congress was
brought to the United States Supreme Court. An article in the Arkansas constitution denied ballot
access to any candidate who had already served three terms in the United States Congress. In a case
INC versus Thornton, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for states to impose
restrictions on term limits. While states

Othello Quote Analysis
To some people, power is authority, and to some, it is capability. To all, it is a metaphorical concept
that is individually assigned by one s own view of a situation. George R.R. Martin targeted this
concept precisely in A Clash of Kings when he wrote, Power resides where men believe it resides. No
more and no less. This quote ties in nicely to Othello by William Shakespeare. Power seems to be a
relevant theme in this story, although the question of who help the power is also very prominent. The
insightful quote from Martin helps us determine this. To defend this quote with evidence from Othello,
one must first understand how to obtain power , then understand why the characters thought Othello
was the one in power, furthermore, one may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Matthew Shepard Case Study
Introduction
Twenty one year old, University of Wyoming college gay student, Matthew Shepard, was found tied to
a fence on the Wyoming prairie, barely alive, his skull fractured and his brain stem crushed On
October 7th, 1998. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better equipped one in
Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. Two Laramie men, Russell Henderson (21 years old)
and Aaron McKinney (22 years old), were convicted of murder and serving for two life sentencing.
Issues
1. Aaron James McKinney seemed to believe that his allegation that Shepard had made a pass at him
was sufficient grounds to justify joining with friend Russell Henderson in savagely beating Shepard,
clubbing him with a handgun, lashing him to a wooden fence and leaving him to die. McKinney s
attorney wanted the jury to accept that because McKinney has a homosexual encounter when he was
younger and that he was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol when he alleges Shepard made
a pass at him, that he was therefore not responsible for his actions.
2. Matthew Shepard Murdered By Bisexual Lover And Drug Dealer, not hate crime, Stephen Jimenez
Claims.
Stephen Jimenez, an award winning writer and TV producer, who has spent 13 years interviewing
more than 100 people with a connection to the case, found that Matthew was addicted to and dealing

Created in 1964, Nike has continuously grown adding many diffusion lines to their brand to be more

brilliant marketing and their trademark Just Do it partnered with the swoosh logo, which is endorsed
by celebrities makes Nike a desirable product. A demand that is worldwide requires employees that
are willing work around the clock, are paid less than minimum wage, and even employed children

get their product distributed. Nike made a huge mistake trying to cut cost by exploiting workers in
south Asian countries. Their ethical integrity was compromised and many consumers would not buy

History of the West Nile Virus Essay
History of the West Nile Virus
Abstract
West Nile virus (WNV) is a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes. It has been found in humans,
birds, and other animals, typically in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. In 1999, WNV was
detected in the United States for the first time, and since then it has spread across the U.S. According
to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 15,000 people in the U.S. have
tested positive for the WNV infection since 1999, including over 500 deaths. Many more people have
likely been infected with WNV, but have experienced mild or no symptoms.
What is the history of the West Nile virus? West Nile virus is an emerging infectious disease that can
cause encephalitis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because New York City is such a huge port of entry into this country, it was suggested that WNV
came from a bird smuggled into the US from Africa or Asia. Since then, WNV has spread to 48 states,
and to Canada and Mexico. Ever since the outbreak in New York till now there where 15,000 people
in the U.S. that tested positive for WNV infection. The virus has probably spread to the east through
the west by migrating birds that have the virus.
West Nile virus exists in nature through a transmission cycle involving mosquitoes and birds.
Mosquitoes become infected with West Nile virus when they feed on infected birds, which may carry
the virus in their blood for a few days. Infected mosquitoes can then transmit West Nile virus to
humans and animals when biting to take a blood meal. In rare instances, West Nile virus may be
transmitted from human to human through organ donation or blood transfusion or from pregnant
mother to fetus. These new modes or transmission are still under investigation.
People typically develop symptoms 3 to 15 days after they are bitten by an infected mosquito. WNV
affects the central nervous system in the body, however, symptoms vary. Less than one percent (about
one in 150 people) of individuals infected with WNV will develop severe illness. The severe
symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors,
convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness

Boo Radley Prejudice
The definition of the word prejudice is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual
experience. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows the horrible things prejudice can
cause to the people the prejudice is against, including three main characters: Arthur Radley, Atticus
Finch and Tom Robinson. To start off, the result of prejudice is seen through Arthur Boo Radley. In
the town of Maycomb County, Boo Radley is known of as a beast (or monster) for stabbing his father
in the leg while he was making a scrapbook, among other things. Although this was not the best thing
he could ve done, no one actually knows if there was a reason for him doing this and the citizens of
Maycomb are not letting Arthur show what type of person he actually is. Another hardship containing
prejudice at Arthur Radley is between Scout, Jem and Dill. When Dill comes to visit his aunt from

Nearly all of Scouts friends have fathers that are youthful and able to do activities that her father is
unable to do because of his age. This shows prejudice because Scout is making a snap judgment

Scout and him could have done together that isn t too tiring for him. Later on, we read about how
Atticus is very well trained with a gun. Yet, this is something Atticus is not proud of and doesn t want
to have anything to do with shooting a gun. The second event of prejudice towards Atticus is when he
gets called a nigger lover for supporting the idea of him defending a black man named Tom Robinson.
The third incidence of prejudice towards Atticus is when Bob Ewell spits on Atticus s face after he

The Controversy Over Mark Twain s The Adventures of...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a controversial book that has raised heated
debates across America for the past century. It was ranked fifth most challenging books out of one
hundred in the 1990s (Chadwick 2). Although this book is a hot topic, it should remain on shelves, and
still be taught in schools. While Huck Finn seems to be only a book of satire, most want this book
banned because it is seen as highly racial. The reading of Huck Finn is humiliating to back students. It
contributes to low self esteem. Only the insensitive and often unwittingly racist teachers respond This

The book is so comical, and lively all the way through. What makes this book so controversial is the
fact that the word nigger is used more than 200 times in the book, but Twain simply used the term as
they would back then. Can you say anyone dislikes Jim? No, we grow fond of him, perhaps love him.
The n word is not demining (Jones 154). Shelly Fisher Fishkin quotes, Huck Finn is the greatest anti
racist novel by an American writer today. This is proven in chapter XXXIV of Huck Finn when Huck
knew helping Jim may get them killed, but he chooses to try to make him a free man. The book
possesses good qualities, and morals. Huck could have turned Jim in; but kept him a secret and stayed
afloat the river of freedom. We can also learn that our society is not what is seems. Although everyone
is of Christian faith, they still own slaves, and are morally bad people. The novel presents a new

Designing A Bridge Made From Commercial Pasta
Introduction The objective of the project is to design a bridge made from commercial pasta that is able
to withhold a weight of 1134 grams (2.5 pounds) over a period of five minutes. Upon evaluation, the
efficiency will be taken into consideration for the overall result. This makes choosing a design and
craftsmanship crucial to the overall performance. The given constraints really makes it challenging
however they have to be followed and considered before beginning the preliminary stages of
designing. Our goal as a team from the start was to build a bridge that not only held the weight for the
required time, but also be the lightest structure in the class. Our final design took a lot of work to
reach. After four prototypes and combining aspects from all of them, we finally came up with a design
that we felt would help us achieve our goal. Our final design most closely resembles a Camelback
Pratt Truss. We came across this design in a picture of the Woolsey Bridge located in the outskirts of
Woolsey, Arkansas. After studying the real life construction of this particular bridge, we found that if
we manipulate it as close as possible with pasta, we ended up getting better results. The following
report will go through the engineering design process we used throughout this project.
Design Ideas
We researched several pasta bridge designs from several pasta bridge competitions that have been held
across the world. We also researched the different designs that actual bridges

Aristotle And Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is the idea that best moral path possible at all times is one that benefits the greatest
amount of people. In other words, Utilitarianism operates under the doctrine that supports the greater
good and maximizes happiness. It does not require or virtuous figure to follow, for it based purely
upon reducing human suffering. It is sometimes called consequentialism because it is based on the
idea that the best action is what produces the best consequences. They reduce suffering. you can have
different actions that lead to good outcomes and they can all be good.
Aristotle came up with the virtue theory. The virtue theory, on the other hand, states that an action is
moral if it is what virtuous being would do. In this way, less emphasis is placed upon specific rules or
laws that clearly define moral actions, and more is placed on what constitutes a good person. Although
there is not a clear line in the virtue theory of what is rational and what is not, it is `often up to
common sense to determine what is an admirable trait and what is not. A virtuous person does not let
their emotions control them and inhibit them from doing what they know to be right. This part is
important: their heart must be in the right place at all times. there should be no difference between
what they should do and what they want to do. Examining right is wrong in terms of the virtue theory
is often very cumulative in the sense that an individual action is judged based on whether or not it
contributes to overall mortality. actions in general arent really the main focus. actions are a

Hate Crime In South Carolina
South Carolina s hands seem to be filled with a surplus of judgment and resentment for how things are
run in varying parts of the country; but yet neglect the issues that hit home. While South Carolina
legislation is busy worrying about letting murderers, rapists, and criminals through our borders, they
are blind to the murderers, rapists, and criminals in our own state. Two counties in South Carolina are
included in the top 30 dangerous areas in America along with holding the ranking of seventh in
America s most criminal state which has gradually climbed the rank since 2012. Causation for such a
high crime rate stems from an equally as terrifying statistic. Almost 19% of South Carolina citizens

That being said, South Carolina has 21 armed extremist hate groups which is a large number for such
a small state. South Carolina has had a long history of racism and violence, but it s unclear whether
hate crimes are more regular here than elsewhere. In recent years, the state doesn t seem to have had
an excessive share of the country s hate crimes, but that may be because of the limitations of hate
crime statistics and the inconsistency or so far as lack of hate crime legislation. The most recent crime
statistics assembled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation paint a similar picture. In 2016, agencies in
every state but Hawaii, and Washington, D.C., supported concrete verification of hate crime statistics
to the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting program. South Carolina had 51 reported hate crimes, 33 of
them driven by racial partiality. That s 10.7 hate crimes per million 2016 residents which was the 34th
largest frequent occurrence in the company of the 49 states and D.C. and 6.9 prompted by racial bias,
which was 33rd highest. It s no secret, hate incites violence. So why can t South Carolina break
through this racist stigma and hateful stereotype that has been assigned to our state for generations?
The answer is presented in our education system. There is no government funded tolerance program
assigned to South Carolina schools in any way, shape, or form. There is no way to fuel our minds for
the future towards acceptance and celebration of diversity. In fact, teachers are ordered to keep their
tolerant opinions to themselves and let South Carolina s history shape young minds opinions of the
world. Anti diversity themes have become the so called norm and only carve a path for the repetition
of history, specifically our history, and violence will only strengthen it s grip on our state if hearts aren

Cost Allocation Decisions Are Important
Cost allocation decisions are important. There are several ways to support allocation method decisions
by documenting the activity that caused the costs to be incurred, identifying the benefits received as a
result of incurring the cost, Justifying that the cost is reasonable or fair with the other party in a
contract, and showing that the cost object has the ability to bear the cost. Some of the different
allocation methods are joint costs, sunk costs, and opportunity costs. For example, a company might
allocate or assign the cost of an expensive computer system to the three main areas of the company
that use the system. A company with only one electric meter might allocate the electricity bill to
several departments in the company.
Managers are faced with making pricing decisions every day. They are responsible for coming up with
how much to charge for a product or service. This amount depends on a multitude of factors such as
competition, cost, advertising, and sales promotion. The best price for a product or service is the one
that maximizes the difference between total revenue and total costs. However, in reality, the price
charged is usually some form of cost plus, which is later adjusted for market conditions and
competition. Some of the different pricing decision methods are cost plus pricing, target costing, and
activity based pricing.

Cost allocation is when common costs are assigned to multiple cost objects. Pricing decisions is set

Support Children And Young People s Positive Behavior
Support children and young people s positive behaviour LO 1.2 Describe with examples the
importance of all staff consistently and fairly applying boundaries and rules for children and young
people s behaviour in accordance with the policies of the setting. When working with children it is
important that they know what is expected of them, therefore all staff should apply the same
boundaries and rules for any particular class or age group. It would not be viable to create a separate
set of rules for each individual child as you would end up with a class of up to thirty children each
following a separate set of rules and being. When developing a set of rules it is important to take into
account the group of children s age. A group of children age 4 5 will need different rules to a group of
children age 8 9 as the children will be at different stages in their development and will therefore have
a different understanding of rules and boundaries that are in place. Children will learn very quickly
what is expected of them and what is right and wrong if all of the adults in their setting use the same
rules and boundaries. When inconsistencies occur children will very easily become confused with the
possibility of them withdrawing with the feeling of being unsure of what is expected of them. It is
important that you always treat children the same to avoid any claims of favouritism or victimisation.
This could also lead to the children perceiving you as someone who lacks control

God s Faithfulness in the Old Testament Essay
Every author depicts information in light of purposes and themes. Sometimes these themes are moral
issues, emotions, or existential concepts. In the case of the Old Testament, the authors wrote books
that highlighted various ideas such as love, obedience, and suffering. Despite various subtopics, the
Old Testament clearly demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. To begin with,
God s faithfulness is displayed in the Pentateuch. One example is found in the opening chapters of
Genesis. Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed his command, God does not let sin prevent him from
being faithful. Instead, God enters the garden and asks the couple, Where are you? (Genesis 3:9) This
example displays the theme that God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without devotion to God, violence and death would flourish in Israel. These factors would impede
God s blessings of security and life; thus, the Mosaic covenant demonstrates the continual faithfulness
of God in the Old Testament. Finally, God is faithful to Israel during the people s complaints in the
desert. Rather than abandoning the nation for its faithlessness, God provides them will nourishment
and protection during their journey. These acts further reinforce the faithfulness of God, even when his
followers stray. In all, the Pentateuch demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness. In addition to the
Pentateuch, the Old Testament books of the Deuteronomistic history reveal the theme of God s
faithfulness to his followers. Initial examples are found in the conquest of the Promised Land depicted
in the book of Joshua. Throughout the Israelite campaign to oust natives and settle the land, God s
actions demonstrate his faithfulness. In one instance God uses Rahab to hide Israelite spies, while in
several other situations he allows the Israelites to defeat its foes. From these actions, it is clear that
God remained faithful to his promise with Abraham (to provide his descendents with land). In addition
to Joshua, the book of Judges provides an example of God s faithfulness. Throughout the book, Israel
repeatedly is unfaithful to God and is conquered by foreign powers. In response to Israelite cries for
help, God repeatedly raises up

1.1 Design philosophy and aesthetics
The Engineering and Computing Building (ECB) was designed by Arup Associates and built by main
contractor Vinci. In designing this building Arup Associates were trying to create a sustainable
postmodern building, which would become a flagship for the university and a landmark in the centre
of the city. Designed to meet the university s long term needs in terms of improving the student
learning experience, using the building as a learning tool in itself.
The 15,000m² building is enclosed in a square, split into two L shaped blocks. Linked together by a
glazed entrance at the corner and separated by a large gap on the opposite corner.
The L block facing the south and west has been configured as the Nature block. This four storey
Nature wing features a green and blue roof planted with foliage, providing a variety of habitats to

because all of them are made with the same crops. The fact that there are only a few multi national
corporations that control all of the crops and meat production is a huge surprise. I believe that each
person in society would be absolutely shocked if they were to watch this documentary. McDonald s is
the largest purchaser of meat, potatoes, pork, apples, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am so ashamed that I had not known most of the information that was shared in Food, Inc. I
definitely agree that we need to have a policy change regarding our food, it should be cheaper to buy
carrots than chips at the grocery store. I, like many college students, want to eat healthy but it is
expensive and most of us are on a ramen budget . There also needs to be tighter laws regarding the
illnesses that can come from improper handling of the meat and crops. I believe that there needs to be
a huge change in the agricultural world, the farmers should not have to be scared of losing money or
being sued because of big companies, such as Monsanto. The huge companies are going to be making
money no matter what without much work. Whereas a farmer puts in work day in and day out and
sadly they do not make much money. I also believe that the film had an extremely negative outlook on
how modern farming practices in agriculture are. I believe that Food, Inc. focused on the negative
outlook of modern farming but did not mention about the different practices or how they have also
positively impacted our

Optogenetic Chemogenetics
In the past decade, optogenetic and chemogenetic (Armbruster et al. 2007) approaches have
transformed neuroscience and other disciplines by facilitating the reversible, cell type specific control
of cellular signaling and electrical activity (Vardy et al. 2015). Chemogenetics and optogenetics
represent 2 emerging approaches to selectively and, unlike traditional gene therapy, reversibly
manipulate cell phenotypes via gene transfer (Jay Barkin 2014). As complementary technologies, opto
and chemogenetics have demonstrated robust utility for deconstructing the neuronal codes responsible
for both simple and complex behaviors (Deisseroth 2011). Chemogenetics have dramatically

Adamantidis 2015). It enables tunable manipulation of cell phenotypes using light (Jay Barkin 2014).
The technique employs a set of microbial ion channels and pumps that activate upon stimulation by
particular wavelengths of light. After transgenic expression within neurons, these type I opsins permit
optical modulation of membrane depolarisation or hyperpolarisation with temporal precision on the
order of milliseconds (Snowball Schorge 2015). The delivery of genes that encode proteins capable of
conveying light sensitivity to neurons has provided a tool that may overcome some of the limitations
of traditional neuromodulation techniques (Henderson et al. 2009). Srivats et al designed a method to
optogenetically stimulate and inhibit acute pain in both normal and pathological states in freely
moving nontransgenic mice by intrasciatic nerve injection of adeno associated viruses encoding an
excitatory opsin enabled light inducible stimulation of acute pain, place aversion and optogenetically
mediated reductions in withdrawal thresholds to mechanical and thermal stimuli upon transdermal
delievery of optical stimuli. Techniques such as this, which eliminate the need for surgical
implantation of stimulation devices, will obviously have a tremendous impact on the speed with which
optogenetic therapy can

William Wordsworth Fill your paper with breathings of your heart. William Wordsworth was a poet
who not only inspired himself, but also inspired a number others. As some may know he was a son,
brother, and a father. But most importantly, he was a famous poet. He never once let his rough and
tragic lifetime get in the way of his creative writing.
II: Historical Information from Author s Time
William Wordsworth was a poet who wrote in the Romantic Era. The Romantic Era lasted
approximately fifty years. It is estimated that the era began around 1800, and ended in around 1850.

intellectual movement that took place toward the ending of the eighteenth ... Show more content on

Only being three stanzas long, this poem became known as a favorite among many of the early readers
considered it a favorite. The poem is about a young woman or lady that Wordsworth admired, known
in the poem as a maid . He connected nature to the poem because he made a connection with nature at
an early age, and most likely thought as highly of her as he did nature. But everything changes when
you think hard about it. Wordsworth uses the word dwelt, and when thought about we would soon
realize that the woman he loved was

Eisenhower s Last Speech Summary
Eisenhower s last speech was based on telling America the risks of moving forward with the military
industrial complex. The military industrial complex is an agreement which allows private companies
to produce and sell weapons to the U.S. government. Eisenhower talks about how he was worried
about spending too much money on the weapons from private companies since he came into office.
Eisenhower is weary about the sudden increase of the military industry and thinks that it could help
America but at the same time could harm them. He thinks it could be dangerous to quickly become
reliable on the new technology and advancements in war industry and spend too much money on these
items. In the end, Eisenhower wishes well to the authorities coming

Nintendo Market Analysis
4C stakeholder s analysis of Nintendo Wii Market in 2006
Customers: Nintendo Co Ltd (Nintendo) and its new president Satoru Iwata believed potential
existence of a consumer market that distanced itself from gaming. They opined that existing games
were not only difficult to understand and play, but also found the consoles complex to operate. The
games were built more on fantasy and targeted towards traditional over 18 year old male[1]
population.
Nintendo made a conscious attempt to bring the non gamers into the spot light and create a new
consumer segment. They decided to concentrate on simplicity and real life game scenarios. Nintendo
designed and marketed Wii as family entertainments devise involving all age and gender ... Show

The competitors in order to increase their sale have been reducing the prices regularly. Nintendo
though kept its price constant until recently. They announced a price reduction of USD 50[12] in US
recently to improve recent decline in sales.
Energy consumption bill to Wii consumers is as low as USD 10 per year compared to USD 130 per
year for the other game devises.
Place (Distribution): The Company due to its long presence in the industry had existing distribution
network. The company appointed at least one distributor in each state in U.S. who in turn distributed
the product and software to retailers. They were able to place and display the product at major super
markets and shopping malls.
However even after a year of its launch Nintendo was heavily criticized and confronted for not
meeting the demand. This may have been due to genuine shortages of parts and their inability to
correctly forecast the demand. The queues to purchase Wii were still there even after one year of its
launch.
Though there is no concrete evidence, and Nintendo might have created the scarcity to maintain high
interest and curiosity. They realized that due to the uniqueness of the product, consumers are willing to
wait to buy this product rather than look for alternatives. This scarcity was especially visible in the US
market while European demands were being met reasonably

Nadine Gordimer s Country Lovers
It has been known throughout the years the class conflicts between people around the world and how
it affects many, but during today s times it is not as bad as the times when racial segregation took
place between South Africa s white minority and non white majority. Nadine Gordimer, is a born and
raised South African novelist whose writings focused on exile and alienation. She wrote many novels
and short stories that related to South Africa s unjust political situation between the whites and non
whites in the 1900 s. One of the short stories that she wrote is Country Lovers which portrays the life
in South Africa during those times and how apartheid, a policy that controlled any type of relation

Nadine conveys the way that the non whites were not able to, or were not given the opportunity to
become someone in life. Instead, they stayed as the working class. Class seemed to have played a big
part in the reading because it draws attention to the way that the whites, which were the higher class,
were treated and how they had better chances of success in life than blacks, which were the lower or
working class. Growing up the white children were sent off to the best schools setting them in the path
of prosperity while the black children had little to no school and had not many opportunities. Although
most of the black children get some schooling, they drop every years farther behind the grades passed
by the white children... (p. 332) Black South Africans did not have the money to send their children to
good schools which did not allow them to become educated like the children of the rich white
families. They, unfortunately, had to grow up to be illiterate farm workers and servants just like their
families; following their traditions and ways of living.
Moreover, Paulus and Thebedi, the two main characters in the story, were not able to share or grow
their love for each

Feminist Literary Analysis Of By Nella Larsen

English 102 Prof. S. Dillion
Feminist Literary Analysis Paper 2
20 March 2015
A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women have been
subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic hardships such as wage gaps or
an inability to own property, to social mores such as submission in marriage and sexual
objectification, women are systematically treated as second class citizens without a voice. African
American women have faced these gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the
forms of slavery, unfair taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media
representation to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsen portrays two African American women as main
characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways. Webster s Dictionary defines
oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust
treatment or control; mental pressure or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues
of oppression such as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to
women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how race and class function in
society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender.
Many of the issues explored in the story were likely experiences by the author herself. Similar to the
main character Irene, Nella Larsen was

Analysis Of Kenneth Grahame s Wind
Kenneth Grahame s Wind in the Willows was first thought out as stories for his son Alastair. Because
Wind in the Willows was told first to entertain, Kenneth Grahame has broken all the rules. His book is
written like a bedtime story, and Grahame allows him self to really have fun with this book. Rather
than creating a story with a moral lesson for young children of the Victorian era, Grahame has
indulged himself by avoiding realism, focusing on family values and is characters while also dealing
with his own fears regarding the status of the class structure in the Victorian era.
Elements of oral storytelling are evident in Grahame s Wind in the Willows. His chapters lack detailed
physical descriptions of characters, instead opting for the name of the characters to do the trick. All a
child needs to know is that Toad looks like and is a toad. By leaving the descriptions so open ended,
Grahame allows for his character to be dynamic in their physical attributes. His characters are large
enough to ride in a caravan pulled by a horse, but small enough to ______. They are human enough to
pass for a washerwoman and to be put into jail, but animalistic in their physic characteristics.
Grahame avoids physical descriptions to allow his characters to shift as needed. He cuts out realism,
letting his animals be the same approximate size. Badger s are typically much larger than Moles, but
yet Mole is quite comfortable in Badger s underground home. Toads are typically quite small, but yet

  • 2. Development And Sustainability Of A Sustainable Development Development and sustainability Borgese (1995) defined the basic meaning of the term sustainable development as that of Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs The UN development goals were set out on 25th of September 2015 to be achieved by 2030, originally 17 goals were set out to cover a wide range of issues such as environmental, political, social that were aimed to make changing sustainability internationally achievable. Out of the 17 goals, I believe that goal 14 is one goal that will become ever more important and the issues raised will need to be resolved in the coming years. Goal 14 Life below water set out to conserve sustainably use the oceans, sea and marine resources for sustainable development. The goal set out to achieve reduced pollution of human land based activities such as oil spills. Also, to protect marine and coastal ecosystems this will strengthen the resilience and making healthy productive oceans. Also, to minimise the impacts of ocean acidification. Effectively regulate harvesting of the oceans, to end overfishing and illegal and unregulated fishing. To restore the fish stocks in the shortest time possible. Also, to increase scientific knowledge, and implement international laws to increase the economic benefits to small developing island communities. On July 16th 9:32 a.m., Apollo 11 was successfully launched as millions watched. Indeed, the lunar mission of the Apollo 11 was a new break through in the field of space exploration. Soon after, however, many controversies were raised on the authenticity of this event. Many critics of the lunar landing believe that this event was a hoax perpetuated to deceive the society. The debate, whether the moon landing of 1969 was a hoax or a true event, continues today. In addition, Phillip C. Plait agrees with Tony Phillips and comes to the same conclusions. For example he states there are no stars in the picture because, The stars are too faint to be seen in the images (Plait 159). However, unlike Tony Phillips, Plait explains the scientific reasons in depth. He claims astronauts have survived the incredibly high temperature of the Moon due to simple date counting. He explains, Moon spins on its axis once every 27 days ... [which] means ... two weeks of sunlight and two weeks of darkness... the surface doesn t heat up the instant the sunlight touches it...It takes days for the lunar surface to get to its high temperature... (Plait 166). The author of the paper believes the moon landing of 1969 really happened. The main reasons coming to this conclusion is that the lies could not be told by such huge amount of people and the theories can be all explained and understood with a little studying on physics and astronomy. If this were a hoax, more than a handful of people would have spoken up the secret. The author of this paper also believes that the photos and the films from NASA are real evidences, but have been misinterpreted due to the lack of knowledge on astronomy and physics. The ideals of liberty and equality went astray in the late nineteenth century being destabilized by an upswing of another form political policy, liberalism. This liberalism was interwoven with racism and sexism, and colored by positivist interpretations of science, society and knowledge that were becoming common currency in Western Europe. In order to understand the reaction to liberal policies of native populations in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, it is important to focus on the scientific method that was applied to social phenomenon at the time. The elites believed themselves to be closer to the progressive goal of European whiteness and that the lower classes did not have the racial purity necessary to participate in national progress. The theory of scientific racism was also used to justify the heavy handed, often violent treatment of the peasant population. After all, the theory of positivism contended that the peasants were a lower race, and justified exploitation under the guise of supervision and regulation. Positivism was especially suited to reform because of its practical, disciplinary, and authoritarian inclinations (Larson p.64). The elites plan to transform the republic into a better nation was part of a larger plan to put themselves on the same progressive track as other European nations. The Creole elite of Colombia were the first among the Andean republics to associate economic retardation with the concept of racial weakness (Larson p.75). The convergence of postcolonial concepts of class and race were used to blame poverty and misery on the victim, through fault of their inferior race (Larson p.81). In Colombia, the liberal elite s plan to transform society into a more progressive state was to gradually blend any kind of indigenous or African race with white European immigrants, therefore whitening the population as a whole. The Bosnian Genocide and the Holocaust could have been prevented or stopped if the 8 stages were properly identified . There are 8 stages of genocide and the first stage is Classification. Classification is putting people into groups based on race, ethnicity, and religion. These groups usually are separated into the superior people and the inferior people. In the holocaust the Nazis targeted minorities, more specifically the Jewish people. The Jews were seen as the inferior race and they needed to be eliminated according to the nazis. The second stage of genocide is symbolization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stage of genocide is called polarization. Polarization is where they separate the population. The SS and Nazis used propaganda to convince the german population the the Jewish people were the root of all evil. They used posters and videos to make this happen. Poster depicted Jews as being ape like with large noses and a slanted forehead. The most prevalent example of this is the Hitler Youth, they were brainwashed using propaganda so they would believe that everything Hitler said was morally right. The people that rebelled and did not believe the propaganda were eliminated. The next stage of genocide and the first step of the systematic killing is preparation. Preparation is when the target group is put together and combined to make it easier for extermination. In the Bosnian Genocide men and women were moved to concentration camps where they would be held until they were killed. The Serbs overthrew the law enforcement and roamed the streets rounding up Bosniaks, making sure none got away. They executed anyone that was thought to be strong enough to rebel instantly. The most gruesome stage of Genocide is Extermination. Extermination is the killing of the targeted group. • 11. Term Limits Should Not Be Beneficial Debate Paper Putting limits on the amount of terms a member of Congress can serve is a highly debated issue. Many people are against term limits. They argue that term limits are unconstitutional and that they infringe on the rights of the American people to choose who they want to represent their states. However, many people also argue that term limits would be beneficial. Term limits would be beneficial because it would put an end to career politicians, give new people a chance to solve the nation s problems, and limit corruption. The founding fathers left nothing about term limits for any political office in the Constitution. George Washington set the precedent for term limits when he retired after two terms in office. Most presidents after him also stopped running after two terms. Franklin Roosevelt was the only president with more than two terms. He ran and was elected four times, though he died in the beginning of his fourth term. After his four terms, the twenty second amendment was passed in 1951. The amendment says that no one should be elected to office more than twice. In 1995, the idea of term limits in Congress was brought to the United States Supreme Court. An article in the Arkansas constitution denied ballot access to any candidate who had already served three terms in the United States Congress. In a case INC versus Thornton, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for states to impose restrictions on term limits. While states ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George R.R. Martin targeted this concept precisely in A Clash of Kings when he wrote, Power resides where men believe it resides. No more and no less. This quote ties in nicely to Othello by William Shakespeare. Power seems to be a relevant theme in this story, although the question of who help the power is also very prominent. Comatose, he was taken first to a Laramie hospital, then to a better equipped one in Fort Collins, Colo., where he died five days later. Two Laramie men, Russell Henderson (21 years old) and Aaron McKinney (22 years old), were convicted of murder and serving for two life sentencing. Issues 1. Aaron James McKinney seemed to believe that his allegation that Shepard had made a pass at him was sufficient grounds to justify joining with friend Russell Henderson in savagely beating Shepard, clubbing him with a handgun, lashing him to a wooden fence and leaving him to die. • 19. The Controversy Over Mark Twain s The Adventures of... The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a controversial book that has raised heated debates across America for the past century. It was ranked fifth most challenging books out of one hundred in the 1990s (Chadwick 2). Although this book is a hot topic, it should remain on shelves, and still be taught in schools. While Huck Finn seems to be only a book of satire, most want this book banned because it is seen as highly racial. The reading of Huck Finn is humiliating to back students. It contributes to low self esteem. Only the insensitive and often unwittingly racist teachers respond This book is a classic (Washington post 6). What makes this book so controversial is the fact that the word nigger is used more than 200 times in the book, but Twain simply used the term as they would back then. Can you say anyone dislikes Jim? No, we grow fond of him, perhaps love him. The n word is not demining (Jones 154). Shelly Fisher Fishkin quotes, Huck Finn is the greatest anti racist novel by an American writer today. This is proven in chapter XXXIV of Huck Finn when Huck knew helping Jim may get them killed, but he chooses to try to make him a free man. The book possesses good qualities, and morals. Huck could have turned Jim in; but kept him a secret and stayed afloat the river of freedom. We can also learn that our society is not what is seems. Although everyone is of Christian faith, they still own slaves, and are morally bad people. The novel presents a new perspective on today s society and how it is still very much like Twain s time. The need to ban this book from shelves and schools should stop. People need to start to embrace this book with meaning and the humor it possesses. The Banned Books Week Club celebrates the First Amendment and the freedom to read by posting a list of banned books that society should read, Huck Finn being 6th on the list (Adler7). Designing A Bridge Made From Commercial Pasta Introduction The objective of the project is to design a bridge made from commercial pasta that is able to withhold a weight of 1134 grams (2.5 pounds) over a period of five minutes. Upon evaluation, the efficiency will be taken into consideration for the overall result. This makes choosing a design and craftsmanship crucial to the overall performance. The given constraints really makes it challenging however they have to be followed and considered before beginning the preliminary stages of designing. Our goal as a team from the start was to build a bridge that not only held the weight for the required time, but also be the lightest structure in the class. Our final design took a lot of work to reach. After four prototypes and combining aspects from all of them, we finally came up with a design that we felt would help us achieve our goal. Our final design most closely resembles a Camelback Pratt Truss. We came across this design in a picture of the Woolsey Bridge located in the outskirts of Woolsey, Arkansas. After studying the real life construction of this particular bridge, we found that if we manipulate it as close as possible with pasta, we ended up getting better results. The following report will go through the engineering design process we used throughout this project. Design Ideas We researched several pasta bridge designs from several pasta bridge competitions that have been held across the world. We also researched the different designs that actual bridges ... • 21. Aristotle And Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is the idea that best moral path possible at all times is one that benefits the greatest amount of people. In other words, Utilitarianism operates under the doctrine that supports the greater good and maximizes happiness. It does not require or virtuous figure to follow, for it based purely upon reducing human suffering. It is sometimes called consequentialism because it is based on the idea that the best action is what produces the best consequences. They reduce suffering. you can have different actions that lead to good outcomes and they can all be good. Aristotle came up with the virtue theory. The virtue theory, on the other hand, states that an action is moral if it is what virtuous being would do. In this way, less emphasis is placed upon specific rules or laws that clearly define moral actions, and more is placed on what constitutes a good person. Although there is not a clear line in the virtue theory of what is rational and what is not, it is `often up to common sense to determine what is an admirable trait and what is not. A virtuous person does not let their emotions control them and inhibit them from doing what they know to be right. This part is important: their heart must be in the right place at all times. there should be no difference between what they should do and what they want to do. South Carolina has had a long history of racism and violence, but it s unclear whether hate crimes are more regular here than elsewhere. In recent years, the state doesn t seem to have had an excessive share of the country s hate crimes, but that may be because of the limitations of hate crime statistics and the inconsistency or so far as lack of hate crime legislation. The most recent crime statistics assembled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation paint a similar picture. In 2016, agencies in every state but Hawaii, and Washington, D.C., supported concrete verification of hate crime statistics to the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting program. South Carolina had 51 reported hate crimes, 33 of them driven by racial partiality. That s 10.7 hate crimes per million 2016 residents which was the 34th largest frequent occurrence in the company of the 49 states and D.C. and 6.9 prompted by racial bias, which was 33rd highest. The answer is presented in our education system. There is no government funded tolerance program assigned to South Carolina schools in any way, shape, or form. There is no way to fuel our minds for the future towards acceptance and celebration of diversity. In fact, teachers are ordered to keep their tolerant opinions to themselves and let South Carolina s history shape young minds opinions of the world. There are several ways to support allocation method decisions by documenting the activity that caused the costs to be incurred, identifying the benefits received as a result of incurring the cost, Justifying that the cost is reasonable or fair with the other party in a contract, and showing that the cost object has the ability to bear the cost. Some of the different allocation methods are joint costs, sunk costs, and opportunity costs. For example, a company might allocate or assign the cost of an expensive computer system to the three main areas of the company that use the system. A company with only one electric meter might allocate the electricity bill to several departments in the company. Managers are faced with making pricing decisions every day. • 28. Support Children And Young People s Positive Behavior Support children and young people s positive behaviour LO 1.2 Describe with examples the importance of all staff consistently and fairly applying boundaries and rules for children and young people s behaviour in accordance with the policies of the setting. When working with children it is important that they know what is expected of them, therefore all staff should apply the same boundaries and rules for any particular class or age group. It would not be viable to create a separate set of rules for each individual child as you would end up with a class of up to thirty children each following a separate set of rules and being. When developing a set of rules it is important to take into account the group of children s age. A group of children age 4 5 will need different rules to a group of children age 8 9 as the children will be at different stages in their development and will therefore have a different understanding of rules and boundaries that are in place. Children will learn very quickly what is expected of them and what is right and wrong if all of the adults in their setting use the same rules and boundaries. When inconsistencies occur children will very easily become confused with the possibility of them withdrawing with the feeling of being unsure of what is expected of them. It is important that you always treat children the same to avoid any claims of favouritism or victimisation. This could also lead to the children perceiving you as someone who lacks control ... In the case of the Old Testament, the authors wrote books that highlighted various ideas such as love, obedience, and suffering. Despite various subtopics, the Old Testament clearly demonstrates the theme of God s faithfulness to his followers. To begin with, God s faithfulness is displayed in the Pentateuch. Throughout the Israelite campaign to oust natives and settle the land, God s actions demonstrate his faithfulness. In one instance God uses Rahab to hide Israelite spies, while in several other situations he allows the Israelites to defeat its foes. From these actions, it is clear that God remained faithful to his promise with Abraham (to provide his descendents with land). • 40. Food, Inc. I was immediately intrigued from the beginning of Food, Inc. There was interesting and valuable information brought up during the film. Many people do not think about where their food comes from. I believe that if people were to know where their food comes from, they would not want to eat it. There are 47,000 products at a grocery store. But, Food, Inc. implies that this is in fact an illusion because all of them are made with the same crops. The fact that there are only a few multi national corporations that control all of the crops and meat production is a huge surprise. I believe that each person in society would be absolutely shocked if they were to watch this documentary. McDonald s is the largest purchaser of meat, potatoes, pork, apples, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am so ashamed that I had not known most of the information that was shared in Food, Inc. I definitely agree that we need to have a policy change regarding our food, it should be cheaper to buy carrots than chips at the grocery store. I, like many college students, want to eat healthy but it is expensive and most of us are on a ramen budget . There also needs to be tighter laws regarding the illnesses that can come from improper handling of the meat and crops. I believe that there needs to be a huge change in the agricultural world, the farmers should not have to be scared of losing money or being sued because of big companies, such as Monsanto. The huge companies are going to be making money no matter what without much work. Whereas a farmer puts in work day in and day out and sadly they do not make much money. I also believe that the film had an extremely negative outlook on how modern farming practices in agriculture are. I believe that Food, Inc. focused on the negative outlook of modern farming but did not mention about the different practices or how they have also positively impacted our ... Optogenetic Chemogenetics In the past decade, optogenetic and chemogenetic (Armbruster et al. 2007) approaches have transformed neuroscience and other disciplines by facilitating the reversible, cell type specific control of cellular signaling and electrical activity (Vardy et al. 2015). Chemogenetics and optogenetics represent 2 emerging approaches to selectively and, unlike traditional gene therapy, reversibly manipulate cell phenotypes via gene transfer (Jay Barkin 2014). As complementary technologies, opto and chemogenetics have demonstrated robust utility for deconstructing the neuronal codes responsible for both simple and complex behaviors (Deisseroth 2011). It enables tunable manipulation of cell phenotypes using light (Jay Barkin 2014). The technique employs a set of microbial ion channels and pumps that activate upon stimulation by particular wavelengths of light. After transgenic expression within neurons, these type I opsins permit optical modulation of membrane depolarisation or hyperpolarisation with temporal precision on the order of milliseconds (Snowball Schorge 2015). The delivery of genes that encode proteins capable of conveying light sensitivity to neurons has provided a tool that may overcome some of the limitations of traditional neuromodulation techniques (Henderson et al. 2009). Srivats et al designed a method to optogenetically stimulate and inhibit acute pain in both normal and pathological states in freely moving nontransgenic mice by intrasciatic nerve injection of adeno associated viruses encoding an excitatory opsin enabled light inducible stimulation of acute pain, place aversion and optogenetically mediated reductions in withdrawal thresholds to mechanical and thermal stimuli upon transdermal delievery of optical stimuli. Techniques such as this, which eliminate the need for surgical implantation of stimulation devices, will obviously have a tremendous impact on the speed with which optogenetic therapy can ... The company appointed at least one distributor in each state in U.S. who in turn distributed the product and software to retailers. They were able to place and display the product at major super markets and shopping malls. However even after a year of its launch Nintendo was heavily criticized and confronted for not meeting the demand. This may have been due to genuine shortages of parts and their inability to correctly forecast the demand. The queues to purchase Wii were still there even after one year of its launch. • 46. Feminist Literary Analysis Of By Nella Larsen Farkhanda Wajibul English 102 Prof. S. Dillion Feminist Literary Analysis Paper 2 20 March 2015 A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women have been subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic hardships such as wage gaps or an inability to own property, to social mores such as submission in marriage and sexual objectification, women are systematically treated as second class citizens without a voice. African American women have faced these gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the forms of slavery, unfair taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media representation to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsen portrays two African American women as main characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways. Webster s Dictionary defines oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control; mental pressure or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues of oppression such as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how race and class function in society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender. Many of the issues explored in the story were likely experiences by the author herself. Similar to the main character Irene, Nella Larsen was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Analysis Of Kenneth Grahame s Wind Kenneth Grahame s Wind in the Willows was first thought out as stories for his son Alastair. Because Wind in the Willows was told first to entertain, Kenneth Grahame has broken all the rules. His book is written like a bedtime story, and Grahame allows him self to really have fun with this book. Rather than creating a story with a moral lesson for young children of the Victorian era, Grahame has indulged himself by avoiding realism, focusing on family values and is characters while also dealing with his own fears regarding the status of the class structure in the Victorian era. Elements of oral storytelling are evident in Grahame s Wind in the Willows. His chapters lack detailed physical descriptions of characters, instead opting for the name of the characters to do the trick. All a child needs to know is that Toad looks like and is a toad. By leaving the descriptions so open ended, Grahame allows for his character to be dynamic in their physical attributes. His characters are large enough to ride in a caravan pulled by a horse, but small enough to ______. They are human enough to pass for a washerwoman and to be put into jail, but animalistic in their physic characteristics. Grahame avoids physical descriptions to allow his characters to shift as needed. He cuts out realism, letting his animals be the same approximate size. Badger s are typically much larger than Moles, but yet Mole is quite comfortable in Badger s underground home. Toads are typically quite small, but yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
