Introduction The objective of the project is to design a bridge made from commercial pasta that is able
to withhold a weight of 1134 grams (2.5 pounds) over a period of five minutes. Upon evaluation, the
efficiency will be taken into consideration for the overall result. This makes choosing a design and
craftsmanship crucial to the overall performance. The given constraints really makes it challenging
however they have to be followed and considered before beginning the preliminary stages of
designing. Our goal as a team from the start was to build a bridge that not only held the weight for the
required time, but also be the lightest structure in the class. Our final design took a lot of work to
reach. After four prototypes and combining aspects from all of them, we finally came up with a design
that we felt would help us achieve our goal. Our final design most closely resembles a Camelback
Pratt Truss. We came across this design in a picture of the Woolsey Bridge located in the outskirts of
Woolsey, Arkansas. After studying the real life construction of this particular bridge, we found that if
we manipulate it as close as possible with pasta, we ended up getting better results. The following

A Lesson in Oppression From the beginning of time and around the world, women have been
subjected to patriarchal oppression in various forms. From economic hardships such as wage gaps or
an inability to own property, to social mores such as submission in marriage and sexual
objectification, women are systematically treated as second class citizens without a voice. African
American women have faced these gendered challenges in addition to racial discrimination in the
forms of slavery, unfair taxation, red lining, unequal access to education and derogatory media
representation to name a few. Passing by Nella Larsen portrays two African American women as main
characters who experience racial and gender oppression in various ways. Webster s Dictionary defines
oppression as: the state of being subject to unjust treatment or control, prolonged cruel or unjust
treatment or control; mental pressure or distress. Larsen s story delves into social and feminist issues
of oppression such as loss of identity, oppressiveness of marriage, women s independence relating to
women s lack of independence, the importance of marriage in society, how race and class function in
society, and how relationships are dictated by race, class, and gender.

than creating a story with a moral lesson for young children of the Victorian era, Grahame has
indulged himself by avoiding realism, focusing on family values and is characters while also dealing
with his own fears regarding the status of the class structure in the Victorian era.
Elements of oral storytelling are evident in Grahame s Wind in the Willows. His chapters lack detailed
physical descriptions of characters, instead opting for the name of the characters to do the trick. All a
child needs to know is that Toad looks like and is a toad. By leaving the descriptions so open ended,
Grahame allows for his character to be dynamic in their physical attributes. His characters are large
enough to ride in a caravan pulled by a horse, but small enough to ______. They are human enough to
pass for a washerwoman and to be put into jail, but animalistic in their physic characteristics.
