Reason In The Most Dangerous Game By General Zaroff
Reason or Instinct? Instinct is no match for reason This is true according to general Zaroff, but does
the author of the story agree? Yes, the author of The Most Dangerous Game believes that reason is no
match for instinct. Throughout the story he gives examples of how reason has out smarted instinct.
Reason is the explanation or justification of a certain action or event;the reason is not affected by force
of habit. It is a process of very analytical thinking. Instinct, instinct is action woven into your mind for
long periods of time; it is a second nature for you. For example a professional basketball player
following through after your shot, they do not have to think about what they are doing they just do it.
Instinct is done by a force of habit, you do not think of instinct; it just comes naturally. ... Show more

... he stopped before he has swum 50 feet. A certain coolheadedness had come to him; it was not the
1st time he had been in a tight place (20, 21). This example is just after Rainsford fell off of the yacht.
His initial instinct was to pursue after the boat, Rainsford tries but fails. He then depends on long term
reasoning to grab hold of the situation and lead himself back to safety. Instead, If this man s reasoning
did not come into play he most likely would have lost his energy and not have the capability of finding
shipwreck island and drown. This is one example of many in the story when using reason instead of
instinct kept the main character safe and alive, his instinct most likely would have left him

Relational Database Research Paper
Bookstores Relational Database Design
A relational database is designed to comply with a term called normalization. Normalization is a
process of organizing tables to minimize the redundancy in the database. The design of a relational
database decreases the amount of space the database uses in a system. The relational database uses
fields to help reduce redundancy in the tables. Relational designed database use the relational value in
fields, an example would be a field for Book_ISBN and a field with Title_ISBN, could be limited to
just one field naming the ISBN (Safari).
If the book store does not have experience building a relational database they should (call an expert)
practice with sample data to identify any problems in the initial design. Once they have all the
problems worked out, the bookstore can move onto building their real database. At first a list of books
will have to be compiled. This list would contain the title of the book, the authors name, the ISBN and
category which would denote the field name for each column for the database. The domain controls
the value that can be used in each column identifying the list of books. Using the sample table will
allow the bookstore to test and create ways in which the data can be stored, manipulated and queried,
called data cleanup. An example would be how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The database may need to be modified with an additional field to allow for a unique identifier to be
added, called a key field (Stair).

Hyaline Cartilage
Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease, affects around 26 million Americans (Litwic
2013). It is an inflammation of the joints resulting from cartilage degradation. Cartilage is a firm
connective tissue that is made up of chondrocytes that produce an extracellular matrix made up of
collagen fibers, chondroitin sulfate, and elastin fibers. It forms rapidly, but it is avascular so there are
no blood vessels running through it to provide the chondrocyte cells with oxygen and nutrients. To
obtain nutrients, the nutrients diffuse through a connective tissue that surrounds cartilage called the
perichondrium, in order to reach the center of the cartilage. Due to this avascular factor, self repair of
cartilage is much slower than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In osteoarthritis of the fingers (not including the thumb), it usually affects the Distal Interphalangeal
joint which connects the distal and middle phalanges. It causes swelling and deformation in the area,
usually appearing first on the index and middle fingers, then progressing to the remaining fingers
(Joints Affected by OA 04/20/17). Osteoarthritis develops in the fingers after heavy joint use involved
with gripping heavy objects. Osteoarthritis in the thumb occurs at the base of the thumb, where the
Carpometacarpal joint joins the Trapezium and Metacarpal 1. Osteoarthritis in the thumb is deemed to
be more common than that of other fingers due to the nature of opposable thumbs in humans. This is
the joint that enables people to swivel, pivot, and pinch with their hands in order to grip things
(Osteoarthritis of Fingers 04/20/17). Since gripping is an important everyday movement and there is
only one thumb as opposed to the remaining four fingers, the thumb is exposed to more wear and tear.
The pain that settles with osteoarthritis in the fingers occurs directly in the affected areas. Any
previous fractures or injuries to these joints increase the chances of osteoarthritis in the fingers
because those will have had already weakened the

Cupping Therapy
Lit review: Cupping therapy is considered to be an alternative medicine that is on an upward trend
since the 2016 summer Olympic games. The current literature discusses the positive effects that
cupping therapy can bring to the current medical world. This traditional medicine has the potential to
eliminate reliance on analgesics and reduce health care costs (Chi,2015) . There is little research done
in regards to effectiveness of cupping therapy on low back pain available. Markowski, Sanfordm
PikowskimFauvell, Cimino, ad Caplan conducted a pilot study to analyze patients with low back pain
and how cupping effects their pain levels, range of motion, and functional movement. It was

significant of cupping therapy over heating pads for pain relief and increased cervical range of motion.
Subjective reports from participants showed that neck pain in the cupping group continued to
decreased after 8 hours, but did not in the heating pad group (Kim et.al, 2012). The cupping groups
had a decrease of neck disability index score, significant, and large affects sizes were found at the 3
week and final check in. It is important to note that improvements were noted in all cervical range of
motions, but statistical significance was only found in cervical extension. Through this study they
were able to conclude that cupping therapy was indeed an effective treatment for decreasing pain
levels, increasing range of motion, and improving the quality of life in the visual display terminal

A Comprehensive Psychological Assessment At Bradfield...
Julie Coldwell, aged 25, has been referred by her General Practitioner to myself at Bradfield Hospital
Mental Health Unit, where I work as a Clinical Psychologist, due to concerns about her physical and
mental health from her job. Ms Coldwell is a trainee manager in a supermarket. Recently she has felt
that work is taking a toll on her, and hasn t been feeling herself. She has reported symptoms of
extreme fatigue whilst working, and has made mention of difficulty sleeping. She worries about being
fired due to her poor performance at work, which she says has become progressively worse over time.
Ms Coldwell is concerned that her work colleagues are judging her due to her performance and
discussing it when she is not present. Consequently, she is finding it very difficult to go to work. Ms
Coldwell has given informed consent to complete a comprehensive psychological assessment in order
to determine a diagnosis and treatment. Key considerations to be addressed are her sleeping
difficulties, fatigue, worries of how others evaluate her, and her reluctance to work. As limited
information has been issued, additional background information is required to complete a
comprehensive psychological assessment. This includes a request to her General Practitioner for her
medical history, as well as relevant personal history (brief description of her childhood, adolescence
and adulthood, relationships with others, family, educational and work history, any history of

Analysis Of The Poem Sasuke
Sasuke! A girl with long blonde hair tied back in two pigtails wearing a long white dress cried. Her
wide cerulean eyes wavered as her lover walked toward her. What are you doing here? You know you
can t be here. She said, stepping forward slightly. She stared into the eyes of the man in front of her.
His raven hair framing his pale face, that glistened in the moonlight.
Sasuke reached out his hand, taking her hand in his own. He crouched on one knee, and kissed the girl
s hand lightly. I will never leave your side, no matter the danger, Naruko. Naruko frowned, feeling the
emotions and hearing his thoughts. She fell to her knees, still holding on to Sasuke s hand.
But you must! It s too dangerous here! She cried.

Essay on The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was enacted under the Pierre Trudeau government on
April 17, 1982. According to Phillip Bryden, With the entrenchment of the Charter into the Canadian
Constitution, Canadians were not only given an explicit definition of their rights, but the courts were
empowered to rule on the constitutionality of government legislation (101). Prior to 1982, Canada s
central constitutional document was the British North America Act of 1867. According to Kallen, The
BNAAct (the Constitution Act, 1867) makes no explicit reference to human rights (240). The
adoption of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms significantly transformed the operation of Canada s

The legislative branch is responsible for enacting laws, and the executive branch is responsible for
implementing laws. In Canada, the executive branch is represented by the Prime Minister and his or
her cabinet, while the legislative branch is represented by the elected members of the House of
Commons. According to James Kelly, With the enhanced role of the Department of Justice and the
absence of parliamentary counterweights to constitutional scrutiny, Charter dialogue is dominated by
the cabinet to the exclusion of Parliament (103). The cabinet s decision to govern with the Charter
from the centre will ensure further marginalization of Parliament by the cabinet. Under the
Department of Justice Act, the minister of justice must certify that all bills being introduced to
Parliament are Charter compliant. Therefore, the constitutionality of a bill is implied by its
introduction into the House of Commons, and not in actuality by Parliament. Kelly states, While the
Department of Justice is providing an authoritative statement, it is simply an opinion that the minister
of justice receives from the Department of Justice (105). Moreover, there is limited resources available
for parliamentarians to use in Charter

Causes Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
On March 25, 1911 in the New York City s West village 146 people mainly young women immigrants
of Italian and Jewish background perished. The women, some just teenagers would work long hours in
the factory sewing shirtwaist high necked cottons blouses which were the fashion staple of the time
for young women. The owners of the Triangle Shirt waist factory would lock the doors while the
women worked, said to prevent theft and the visit of union reps to the location. What lead to the fire
was the unsanitary factory floor. This was the exact reason to why before the actual fire, 400 of the
factories employees went on strike. During this strike the women fought for better wages and safer
working conditions. Unfortunately they only won some of their concessions on pay, but little was
actually done by the factories owner who continued to keep the workplace in shambles. As well as the
doors still locked. Besides the doors being locked there were piles of flammable fabric scraps, over
flowed waste baskets and many of workers crammed in multiple floors of the building. In 1977 the
fire was ignited by what was said to be a match or cigarette tossed carelessly amid the debris on the
eighth floor. The fire quickly spread through the open factory floors above. The actual shirtwaist
building was fire proof and still stands today. Located in the West village at the corner of Greene
Street and Washington Place one could still pay the original building a visit. Those on the 10th floor
escaped to the roof and took the elevator until it stopped functioning. During those days fire engine
ladders only reached to the sixth floor. Unfortunately during the fire for some reason workers on the
ninth floor were not informed of the blaze, and due to a lack of a building alarm system this floor had
the highest number of deaths. The poorly built and unmaintained fire escapes collapsed in the heat,
sending a many of the workers on a free fall to their deaths. Which after the initial tragedy, the New
York City Fire Chief Edward F. Croke was asked if the fire escapes provided by building in the area
were actually adequate in the event of a fire. The chief s response was A great many will use

How Is The Perils Of Obedience Shown In A Few Good Men
The film, A Few Good Men, showcases military lawyer, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, defending two
United States Marines, Lance Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Downey, who were
accused of murdering a fellow Marine Corps member, Private William Santiago. The obedience of the
Marines was assessed when Colonel Jessup ordered Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey to
perform a code red, a brutal punishment made illegal by the government, on Private Santiago in order
to coerce him into becoming an improved Marine. Similarly, in the article The Perils of Obedience,
Stanley Milgram conducted a psychological experiment that observed the extent at which an
individual will obey orders. The experiment created a scenario where an unknowing member ... Show

When Jessup initially stated that no one was to touch Santiago, Markinson was to relay the message to
the fellow Marines. One of the most valued questions declared by Kaffee to Jessup was, If Lieutenant
Kendrick gave an order that Santiago wasn t to be touched, then why did he have to be transferred?
Colonel? Kendrick ordered the Code Red, didn t he? Because that s what you told Lieutenant
Kendrick to do! (A Few Good Men). Kaffe then exposed that after Santiago died, Jessup had
Markinson sign an invalid transfer order and Jessup then altered the flight log book (A Few Good
Men). After continued discussion about who to blame for Santiago s death, Jessup confessed to
ordering the code red (A Few Good Men). Correspondingly, Stanley Milgram found that within the
experiments, the blame of the shocks being given was disoriented. Milgram s findings show that
individuals blame each other for something that goes awry, which in the film, the Marines, Dawson,
and Downey took the blame from their authority figures. Comparatively, Fromm stated, As long as I
am obedient to the power ... , I feel safe and protected. In fact, it makes little difference what power it
is that I am obedient to (Fromm 127). Thus being the reason why Dawson and Downey obeyed Jessup
s code red order and why teachers in the Milgram experiment continued on, even when the

How Far Do You Agree That Hitler’s Regime Was a ‘Consensus...
How far do you agree that Hitler s Regime was a consensus dictatorship ? A consensus dictatorship is
on that suggests Hitler s regime was surrounded by a general agreement. This would mean that the
majority of the German public were in cooperation with the Nazi regime and agreed with both the
enforced and promoted concept of the regime. Hitler had mainly achieved this by trying to win over
the hearts and minds of all non Jewish Germans this would mean he would have the majority of the
Germans citizens on his side. However, it is also suggested that many of the people had only
consented due to fear which can be inferred from source 5 that it was the methods of the Nazi

The public voluntarily had given in the names of Jews to the Nazis due to jealousy and terror imposed
on them by the Nazi s which suggests that the terror apparatus used on civilians was effective and the
public were forced to conform to the dictatorship but overall most people acted towards their own
benefit and the countless denunciations which included false accusations indicate that the regime was
a consensus dictatorship. On the other hand, the opposition faced by the Nazi regime is evidence that
the Nazi Regime was not a consented one. In Source 5 it mentions the political opponents being
detained in the concentration camps but even with this sort of mass terror of demolishing the left there
was signs of opposition against the regime. The fact that there were low level resistance jokes around
shows the Nazis were unpopular. People were trying to pick holes in the system rather than just accept
it. People were trying to spread the word. This also indicated the fear people had of Hitler and it was
this fear that forced the people to conform. The Church although having an agreement with Hitler
called the concordat had stood against the regime a number of times. For example, Bishop von Galen
of Munster had stood against the euthanasia programmes. There was also opposition from the youth,
an example the swing kids, they expressed their individuality by wearing their hair long and listened

The Role Of Labor Unions Within The United States
Increased Role of U.S. Labor Unions

February 16, 2016
Abstract
This paper will explore the role of labor unions within the Unites States. The effectiveness of Unions
and how they are important for the stability of the American economy. Unions provide many benefits
to employees due to the working relationship with management and politicians in the U.S Congress.
Some of the benefits that provided by unions are, paid vacations, pensions, an 8 hour work day with
breaks and social security benefits. Unions are continually fighting with politicians and the State
Government for better benefits. Will discuss the role of HRM s employee relations within the
organizations and what role the government should play.
Increased Role of U.S. Labor Unions In the United States unions have impacted the workforce by
creating better benefits for all works. Unions work to improve the working conditions in the
workplace by working with the organization to make sure they are following the labor laws of the
State and Federal Government. Labor unions date back to the eighteenth century and the industrial
revolution in Europe. (Union Plus, n.d.) Unions exploded in the United States around the nineteenth
century with the founding of the National Labor Union (NLU) in 1866. (Union Plus, n.d.) According
to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2015 the overall union

White Privilege In Society
White privilege as defined by McIntosh (1990) is a phenomenon that is similarly denied and protected
by those who have it (p. 31). This means that those who encompass whiteness; those with white skin,
are subject to privilege not shared by others with skin that is not white. But, this privilege is not
something clearly seen by those who enjoy it. On the contrary, McIntosh (1990) points out that, those
who have white skin have been carefully taught not to recognize white privilege (p. 31). By refusing
to acknowledge, and clinging to the advantaged state they possess, people with white privilege are
perpetuating the disadvantaged state others without said privilege experience. Privilege in this context

31). Gender identity can be one of those hierarchies. Those who conform to society s gender norms
are afforded many privileges, at the expense of those whose identities do not coincide with societal
expectations. The genders of women and men are present in every facet in our lives, from the private
sphere, to the public one. Whether one goes shopping for clothing or cosmetics, whether one fills out a
survey from the privacy of their home, the divide between men and women is plainly clear, two
sections, two boxes to tick. For people with characteristics that correspond to the man and woman
binary, the notion that a men and women s section in a pharmacy will sound foreign and irrelevant, or
alternatively, commonsensical, for all they would need to do is go to the section they have been
conditioned to, to the one that is theirs by extension of their gender. But, for someone that does not
conform to the stereotypical perception of what being a man or woman entails, the issue is a real one.
Wilchins (2004) recounts a day spent shopping for clothing, going between searching for men s socks
and women s lingerie: Every salesperson, every department, fumbled for pronouns. All of them were
unsure how to treat me (p. 137). Thus, discrimination is easy to see when you are the target. However,

Physical Properties Of A Compound
The melting point is just one of the physical properties of a compound. The melting point helps
identify a compound and the purity of a compound. If a compound is truly pure, it ll have a higher
melting point than a compound that is mixed with another substance. Also if a substance is truly pure,
it ll have a narrow melting point range. In order to identify a compound, small amount of the
compound is heated in a device that has thermometer, a heating bath and a magnifying glass. The
second the compound or substance starts to melt, that s the first point. The second point is when the
compound or substance is completely melted. These two points makeup the melting point. The

According to Drexel, Trans Cinnamic Acid has a melting point 133 134. The melting points that were
obtained in the lab were very close to the true melting points of each substance. The color ofeach
substance did not change however the state of the substances changed. The substances went from a
solid to a liquid and then back to a solid. The process of using a digimelt to melt different substances
and finding their melting points is a useful technique because it allows chemists to identify substances
and if that substance is pure. This technique could be used when a chemist discovers a compound. The
chemist could use the digimelt to melt the compound and to identify the melting point. The chemist
could thencompare the melting of the compound to a list of compounds. This helps the chemist to
identifywhat compound he found. One way to improve this lab would be to test all the equipment and
make sure it works beforeusing it. By testing all the equipment, like the digimelt, this would prevent

Analysis Of Catcher In The Rye
Introduction Work is hard. Distractions are plentiful. Time is short. Adam Hochschild. We all have
distractions. Sometimes, they are even good. They are always there. We use them when we are lonely
and in consequence, we escape our lonely world and enter the boisterous one we have escaped to a
pathway full of shortcuts. Who are you after you take those shortcuts? Holden Caulfield of J.D.
Salinger s The Catcher In the Rye is one who unnoticeably takes these shortcuts. When Holden
escapes school after failing most of his classes, the whole world is thrown at him. He wants to get to
his family, even though they are less than a mile away from him. In the end, he is just asking for
forgiveness from the people around him. Holden Caulfield of J.D Salinger s The Catcher In The Rye is
lonely and feels sorry for himself, and consequently, uses other people to distract himself from his
journey which causes Holden to be an anti hero. Assertion Number one J.D. Salinger, the author of
The Catcher In The Rye tries to show us that Holden Caulfield of The Catcher In the Rye is a slacker
and uses his siblings as an easy way out of school work. During this scene in the book, Holden wrote
ambot how he had to write to write a paper about a house for Stradlater , Holden s roommate. At the
time, Stratlader was on a date. Holden is not speaking this line. He is just writing it. So what I did, I
wrote about my brother Allie s baseball mitt. It was a very descriptive subject. It really was. My
brother Allie had this left handed fielder s mitt. He was left handed. (Salinger, pg 38.) Holden says that
he does not have a house to write about, so he resorts to his brother s baseball mitt. I think Holden is
trying to take the easy way out of his work. When he says it was a very descriptive subject, he shows
us that he is able to write on and on about it. He tells us that he does not challenge himself when it
comes to schoolwork. Throughout the quote, the theme working without will is portrayed. The tone of
this quote is calm. I think that this is because Holden s siblings relax him inasmuch as they are one of
the few things that Holden has. Assertion Number Two J.D. Salinger, the author of The

The Art Of War By Sun Tzu
Originally written in Chinese in 514 B.C., The Art of War by Sun Tzu outlines basic, yet crucial
principles and factors in military strategy that Sun Tzu claims would ensure victory in a war. There are
several English translations of Sun Tzu s work, each having a slightly different interpretation due to
the meticulous task of finding exact terms from Chinese to English, but some have been reviewed as
reliable in conveying the true message of Sun Tzu. This includes the importance of considering
economic, political, and geographical factors, objective comparisons of significant aspects between
both opposing sides, handling one s army and officers, and most importantly, the use of deception.

Napoleon s army was in a vulnerable position especially since the Austrian and Russian forces united
and considered to attack him in spring when Napoleon s army would have diminished from their
unpreparedness for winter. After realizing that his army would be at their weakest if he waited to fight
in spring, Napoleon decided to trick the Allies into thinking that they must attack him immediately. To
accomplish his goal in deceiving the Allies, Napoleon sent General Savary to their camp pretending to
seek a peace negotiation . This gave the Allies the illusion that Napoleon felt weak and desperate for a
truce. While the Russian commander in chief, General Kutsov, was confident that waiting to attack in
spring was the most advantageous strategy for them, the Tsar was fooled by Napoleon s ploy and over
ruled Kutsov s plan commanding Kutsov to commence their battle in the winter instead of spring. By
realizing the disadvantageous position he was in and how it would make it extremely difficult to win
against the Allies, Napoleon shifted his chances of victory to his favor through deception. The dire
situation that Napoleon and his army was in due to poor logistics and the upcoming harsh winter
would have caused many of his men to die of hunger and hypothermia. By the time spring

American Indians American Justice Summary
In the first chapter of the American Indians, American Justice, the two authors Vine Deloria, Jr. and
Clifford M. Lytle, try to explain the American Indians contemporary life realities by studying the
historical context of the legislations and laws concerning them, since the new Europeans settlers came
and until now. The chronological examination of laws put into light the controversial relations
between Americans and indigenous people and explain how the Indian dilemma was treated by
Americans through time. The chapter is divided into six parts, each part runs for a defined period, and
all the paragraphs rely in a way that each one is represented as a consequence of what happened in the
last paragraph and a cause of what takes place ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Treaties were made between Europeans and Indians tribes to ensure the peaceful land trade. In
the second paragraph, the writers talk about the removal and the relocation of the Indians tribes on the
period from 1828 1887. The authors explain how the immense cultural differences between the new
comers and the indigenous people, have made the assimilation and the fusion unrealistic, especially
after several bloody confrontations. The new generation supported the idea of the expansion of the
land and the removal of Indians across the Mississippi. The Indian Removal Act was passed on 1830,
flowed by massive Indian migration to the west. However, The European expansion continued to
reach the west and the politics of removal came to a dead end, letting place to a period of
ALLOTMENT AND ASSIMILATION which runs from 1887 to 1928 (8). According to the book, the
central idea was to assimilate Indians by giving them a land and changing them to farmers. Indians
had to choose between moving west or taking allotments, what can allow them to become citizens.
However, many Indians were unable to work their land since the investment for seeds and equipment s

The Environment Of Psychiatric Facilities, Regional West...
The environment that surrounds an individual is vital to their health and wellbeing. This is specifically
true when considering healing, especially in the hospital environment. A more appropriate term for
this is milieu therapy. Halter (2013) defined this as a psychiatric philosophy that involves a secure
environment (including people, setting, structure, and emotional climate) to effect positive change (p.
677). This paper will discuss the environment of two psychiatric facilities, Regional West and
Behavioral Management, and their effects on patients mood, behavior, and anxiety. Regional West is

facility is known as the step down unit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lighting was bright in the facility, with natural sunlight coming in through the windows. Across
from the nurses station there were patient lockers that consisted of items that the patients were not able
to keep in their room. The main area for the patients consisted of about two to three tables with chairs,
as well as, love seats and chairs for seating. Some tables had puzzles laying for the patient s to do
during an open time in their schedule. The noise level was moderate to low for most of the time. At
times the volume would increase due to the several different disciplines of health care professionals
collaborating together. The patients kept the noise volume down while in the main seating area,
although, at times the pediatric floor would get loud when several patients were surrounded together.
There was not a distinctive smell noted at the facility, but it did not seem to smell like the hand alcohol
as much as the main Rapid City Regional hospital. There was also a fenced outdoor area that allowed
the pediatric patients to spend time playing volleyball and basketball. Staff consisted of two to three
nurses, two techs on the pediatric floor, and a couple more additional patient technicians on the adult
third floor. Psychiatrists were also in the area at times. There would be either two or three nursing

The factor that makes slightly changes between one individual to another is the mutation. It is said that
mutation occurs randomly and with no control, and by this the natural selection happens, and the
individuals more suitable to the environment passes the genes, and the mutation that guaranteed the
survival is going to operate in the next generation, and it keeps happening. It seems so meaningless to
address the reason of the existence of humans, and all nature to multiple random events in the genes.
In addition, what about the beginning of life? The theory of origin of life (Abiogenesis) says that by
the combination of various inorganic chemicals, the first living unicellular appears spontaneously. I
am also very unlike to believe that all began with a simple spontaneous event. I accommodate both
Christian beliefs, and the scientific theory. I think that, there is something like a trigger inside the
DNA of all living beings, which drives certain individuals to differentiate from the others, and it
makes them to survive. I believe that God, a divine force, conduct this trigger to make sure that the
survival happens. About the theory of the origin of life, I also believe that is was not spontaneous. I
think the divine force guided somehow the biological interactions between the abiotic factors to
generate the appropriate conditions for life on Earth, and to create the first living

Archetypes Of A Mentor In Edward Bloor s Tangerine
Everyone has had someone block them from gaining success. The person writing this has, and so have
the readers. But, everyone has had a mentor, or a role model, once in their life. A mentor, in literature,
is a mythological archetype. In Edward Bloor s novel, Tangerine, Antoine Thomas and Luis Cruz fit as
the mythological archetype of the mentor. Antoine and Luis are mentors to Paul, who is the hero,
because they are both positive figures, who motivate Paul. For instance, when Paul was over at Tino s
house working on the science project, he was told that Luis used to play soccer, too. Luis was also
handicapped so he didn t understand how. Tino then told Paul that Luis had to be the goalie. Paul
thought Tino was trying to make fun of him, but he wasn t. The text states, I looked at Tino to see if he
was mocking me. He wasn t. He was just making conversation (Bloor 175). In other words, Paul really
thought that Tino was making fun of him. This conversation helped Paul realize that he could still play
soccer with his loss of eyesight if Luis can play with a knee injury. The word mocking adds a negative
tone to this quote, but it also helps show how this helps Paul. In addition to Luis, Antoine helps
motivate Paul, too. For example, Paul had gotten a call from Joey, Paul s best friend, saying that
Antoine was at Mr. Donnelly s, a newspaper journalist, house. Paul rode down to see what was
happening. When he got there, they were outside. Antoine came down and looked at

Approximately 5,000 children aged 7 to 18 were conscripted into the civil war in Sierra Leone. During
the civil war, between 215,000 and 257,000 Sierra Leonean women and girls were subjected to sexual
violence. The Special Court for Sierra Leone addressed some critical issues in the areas of sexual and

international law. This essay will cover significant articles in the Statute of the Special Court for Sierra

This indicates that The Special Court for Sierra Leone is an ad hoc court meaning that the court was
established in response to particular events that took place in Sierra Leone since a specific date
(November 30, 1996). The Special Court can further be classified a hybrid ad hoc court because the
judges, prosecution, and the defence counsel are a blend of citizens of the State where the crimes took
place and the international community. This is also outlined in articles 12 and 15 of the Statute. 13
persons were indicted by The Special Court for Sierra Leone between March and September 2003.
However, only nine were in custody as one was dead, one was at large, and two indictments were
withdrawn. Some of the cases that were before The Special Court include: The Prosecutor v Sam

Morris Kallon and Augustine Gbao (The RUF), The Prosecutor v Alex Tamba Brima, Ibrahim Bazzy

Negative Implications Of Genetic Engineering
Everyday science and new technology are becoming more popular in society. Biotechnology, more
specific genetic engineering has entered into human diets and on the shelves in the supermarket. New
products are being introduced, which are promoted as more healthy and fresher than ever before.
Genetic modified (GM) foods are those whose genetic makeup has been altered in a way that does not
occur spontaneously.1 This modifying process is taking place in laboratories all around the world.
Genetic modification of foods allows scientists to make changes to flavor, texture, nutritional value
and shelf life of foods. It allows the buildup of insect and disease resistance in plants to boost crop
yield. However, there are varying perceptions of the risks and benefits of genetically engineered foods
and crops.
In the 1990 s genetically engineered crops were introduced for commercial production and has been
adapted by many US farmers today2. Proponents of genetic engineering envision a new green
revolution where plants can be used in ways never before imagined: to protect themselves against
insects and disease, to feed and vaccinate people at the same time, to flourish in poor soil and drought,
or to improve the quantity and bioavailability of individual nutrients3. Others, however, have
expressed concern that the application of genetic engineering to food and agriculture could have
negative potential impacts on human health, the environment, animal welfare, and the socioeconomic

Creon The Tragic Hero In Sophocles Antigone
Numberless are the world s wonders, but none more wonderful than man . Sophocles Antigone
portrays one of the most important characters in the history of Greek tragedy. It is conspicuous to
depict Antigone as a tragic hero. She is a girl who refuses to submit to the royal order, which
represents the state law, by performing forbidden funeral rites in the name of divine law and filial
obligations. However, Creon, King of Thebes, is a peculiar representation of a tragic hero, for he is a
rendering of Man, and Man s nature. Creon tries to be a good king, to be wise and great, yet the play
shows that his efforts are in vain, for he cannot escape his fate. And his fate is precisely that of being a

How Did Emily Dickinson s Life Affect Her Poetry
Emily Dickinson went through tough conditions, depression, when writing poetry. Her poems not only
were reflected by her feelings, but about everyday subjects, like a dream she had, something she saw
in a garden, and people she came across with. Dickinson did not write like other poets during the
nineteenth century, she wrote lyrics, poems about the inner life of thoughts and feelings. She was on
the greatest masters of the short lyric poem.
Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her parents were Edward

Essay about American Imperialism
The years after the Civil War were the years of great economic expansion in the history of United
States. With the increase in production by industries, the demand for resources increased rapidly and
because the land under the control of the United States could not fulfill this demand, the only option
was to expand the territorial area. In 1867, the United States purchased Alaska from Russia and in the
same year, it annexed Midway Islands. Until 1890s, the expansion was restricted to west and did not
go further the nation s boundaries. But the decade of 1890s, the period between 1893 and1903 was a

In a treaty with the Spain, the US acquired the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and the pacific island of
Guam. Overproduction and under consumption during the Panic of 1893 demonstrated the need for
foreign markets if the economy were to recover again, which heightened the belief that more assertive
foreign policy was indispensible to encourage American exports. To meet the challenge the country
had no apparent choice but to reconstruct its economy or compete for foreign markets and points of
strategic significance, especially in the Pacific. Another problem that emerged during this depression
and could be solved by expanding the markets was the discontent caused by unemployment after the
Panic of 1893. The new markets would work as a safety valve, which by improving the economy of
America would reduce the domestic problems.
Proponents of imperialism believed that the colonial holdings, as strategic assets, were of high value
in the on going quest for maritime supremacy. One of the supporters of imperialism was Alfred Thayer
Mahan, who argued that a large fleet of ships, protected by a powerful navy, is required for successful
international trade. He believed that colonies facilitate and enlarge the operations of shipping and tend
to protect it by multiplying points of safety. Influenced by theses ideas, James G. Blaine urged

Funeral Decedent Essay
If I owned a funeral home and a family entrusted me with the care and preparation of their loved one, I
would add the decedent s vital and service information via the funeral home s website for guest. If the
decedent was part of a veteran organization and a brief ceremony would be scheduled during visitation

If the decedent was part of a fraternal organization and the family wished to have a non sectarian
funeral service, which are similar to military funerals, the funeral director must be advised during
arrangements. The family must provide the DD 214 form, so the funeral home is aware of the branch
the decedent belonged to and could provide a U.S. flag to be draped over the casket during services. It
becomes the funeral professional s responsibility to coordinate the participation of the various
fraternal organizations in a funeral service (NACMS, p. 149). It is important for the funeral director to
work with all the people involved during a veteran s organization funeral rite, including the clergy,

The topic of whether or not school uniforms should be allowed has always been highly debated. The
reason why it is such a hot topic is because it pertains to a student s individuality and the possible
benefits they may bring. This is something that has sparked a bit of friction in the education world.
Hours and hours of research have been poured into this subject in order to find a definitive answer. If
the research has proved anything, it is that school uniforms are ineffective and they restrict self

Voltaire s Candide
Within the text, I really didn t have a take for many of the other stories besides Candide itself, which
seemed to be the highlight of the stories as it seems to be more humane based compared to the others.
When looking at the other stories, I felt that many of them strayed from key ideas of humanity and
relatableness that didn t really make me want to read them. For this reason, I ve focused more on
understanding Candide since it was a very odd and compelling story that I both took joy in reading
along with a bit of confusion. Throughout it, I m often surprised with how the story goes not because
it is complex, but because it takes some weird turns in terms of plot. For instance, we see that many
characters die but within just a little bit later they are suddenly alive for some random reason even
though they should be dead. It kind of brought an odd feeling as I was reading not only because
elements similar to this were scattered about the story, but the story itself was also comprised of many
irregular elements. One of the main things that made me conflict with the text a bit was it s simplistic
way of developing the text through Candide s misfortunes. He s consistently thrown out, beaten,
tortured (both mentally and physically), and put to the test on more than one occasion. Though, for
some reason he seems to always be okay with it all even coming to the point of progressing past many
things that others wouldn t be able to handle. A big part that I can remember is when

in teen pregnancy are a perception of unattainable goals, and lack of educational and occupational
prospects, both prevailing in poor communities. Dash (1989) concluded that child rearing provides a
tangible economic and psychological asset for black teens whose future prospects are bleak. There are
more African Americans living in extreme poverty than Latinos and Whites (Ralley, pg#). In the
journal article, Internal Poverty and Teen Pregnancy, the life options model is proposed. The life
options model suggests that, If disadvantaged youths do not perceive that doors are open to them, it is
perhaps difficult for them to see teen pregnancy as closing any doors (Young, Sue Martin, 2001)
Young, Sue Martin (2001) examined adolescent females educational expectations. They found that
females of all races who became pregnant had lower expectations of educational attainment and
likelihood they would graduate high school, compared to their nonpregnant counterpart. There is a
significant amount of evidence that

The Bloody Chamber Symbolism
In The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter tells the tale of a seventeen year old girl who marries an older,
wealthy Marquis. Like many other clever authors, Carter gives the reader an opportunity to determine
the outcome of the story before the ending is reached through her symbolism and allusions which
foreshadow the ending. In doing so, she not only provides insight into what will happen next but also
further develops each of the characters through these complex symbols that she incorporates
throughout the story. Carter first alludes to the outcome of the story by introducing the ruby choker
that the Marquis gave as a wedding gift within the first few pages of the narrative. She describes it as,
a choker of rubies, two inches wide, like an extraordinarily precious slit throat (6). The reader can
infer a considerable amount from this one simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He orders her to put on that white dress you wore to hear Tristan and the necklace that prefigures your
end, suggesting as though he has known her demise was inescapable from the moment he gave her the
choker (40). Regardless of whether or not the reader had missed the clues that Carter left earlier in the
story, this reference to the choker is much more explicit, as it contrasts the dark ruby color with the
bright white dress. This illustrates the theme of innocence versus violence, which is seen all
throughout the story. The explicit revelation of the necklace prefiguring her end shows that the
symbolism that Carter incorporated in the story begins subtler and becomes more straightforward
towards the end. While not all of Carter s elements of foreshadowing may have been as lengthy and
apparent as the ruby red choker, not a single one fell short of its quality and effectiveness in helping
her to reach the overall effect of building anticipation and increasing tensions throughout the

Nt1310 Unit 1 Patient 1
DISCUSSION
For each of the seven patients, I have come up with the diagnosis and explanations for what the next
steps are for each patient. I used the module book for most of the explanations that help to explain
what the next steps are and what further tests they require.
Patient 1 has a negative diagnosis, as all the cells are lower than 33%. Their average nuclear to
cytoplasmic ratio was 13.32%, which is the lowest overall and is below 33%. This means patient 1 is
not required to have any further tests done. They will just need to come for screening tests every 3
years. Patient 1 s cells were all blue, which means only a haematoxylin stain, was used. The blue
indicates nuclei.
Patient 2 was diagnosed as low grade dyskaryosis for one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This drug works by damaging the DNA in cancer cells and stopping them from multiplying. It binds
together the strands of DNA so that cells can t grow and divide (Cancer Research UK, 2015).
Papanicolaou test fails to detect, on average, 50% of clinically significant pre cancers and cancers that
are present at the time of testing. The interpretation of Papanicolaou smears is subjective, and cellular
abnormalities may be missed because of the reader s fatigue and distraction. Another drawback of the
Papanicolaou test is the need for highly skilled cytotechnologists, the training of whom takes several
years (Louvanto, Chevarie Davis, Ramanakumar, Franco, Ferenczy, 2014).
This means there are problems with the Pap smear, as it doesn t always recognise pre cancerous cells
at an early stage. Especially if they might have missed a cervical screening in between. In addition,
some pre cancerous cells may not be picked up until three or four tests later.
However even though there are many problem with the Pap smear, the most important error is failure
of women to get a Pap smear (Dziura, 2009). As it is harder to monitor any changes in the cervical
cancer if you don t turn up for regular

  • 2. Reason In The Most Dangerous Game By General Zaroff Reason or Instinct? Instinct is no match for reason This is true according to general Zaroff, but does the author of the story agree? Yes, the author of The Most Dangerous Game believes that reason is no match for instinct. Throughout the story he gives examples of how reason has out smarted instinct. Reason is the explanation or justification of a certain action or event;the reason is not affected by force of habit. It is a process of very analytical thinking. Instinct, instinct is action woven into your mind for long periods of time; it is a second nature for you. For example a professional basketball player following through after your shot, they do not have to think about what they are doing they just do it. Instinct is done by a force of habit, you do not think of instinct; it just comes naturally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ... he stopped before he has swum 50 feet. A certain coolheadedness had come to him; it was not the 1st time he had been in a tight place (20, 21). This example is just after Rainsford fell off of the yacht. His initial instinct was to pursue after the boat, Rainsford tries but fails. He then depends on long term reasoning to grab hold of the situation and lead himself back to safety. • 3. Relational Database Research Paper Bookstores Relational Database Design A relational database is designed to comply with a term called normalization. Normalization is a process of organizing tables to minimize the redundancy in the database. The design of a relational database decreases the amount of space the database uses in a system. The relational database uses fields to help reduce redundancy in the tables. Relational designed database use the relational value in fields, an example would be a field for Book_ISBN and a field with Title_ISBN, could be limited to just one field naming the ISBN (Safari). If the book store does not have experience building a relational database they should (call an expert) practice with sample data to identify any problems in the initial design. Once they have all the problems worked out, the bookstore can move onto building their real database. At first a list of books will have to be compiled. This list would contain the title of the book, the authors name, the ISBN and category which would denote the field name for each column for the database. The domain controls the value that can be used in each column identifying the list of books. Using the sample table will allow the bookstore to test and create ways in which the data can be stored, manipulated and queried, called data cleanup. An example would be how ... It is an inflammation of the joints resulting from cartilage degradation. Cartilage is a firm connective tissue that is made up of chondrocytes that produce an extracellular matrix made up of collagen fibers, chondroitin sulfate, and elastin fibers. It forms rapidly, but it is avascular so there are no blood vessels running through it to provide the chondrocyte cells with oxygen and nutrients. To obtain nutrients, the nutrients diffuse through a connective tissue that surrounds cartilage called the perichondrium, in order to reach the center of the cartilage. In osteoarthritis of the fingers (not including the thumb), it usually affects the Distal Interphalangeal joint which connects the distal and middle phalanges. It causes swelling and deformation in the area, usually appearing first on the index and middle fingers, then progressing to the remaining fingers (Joints Affected by OA 04/20/17). Osteoarthritis develops in the fingers after heavy joint use involved with gripping heavy objects. Osteoarthritis in the thumb occurs at the base of the thumb, where the Carpometacarpal joint joins the Trapezium and Metacarpal 1. Osteoarthritis in the thumb is deemed to be more common than that of other fingers due to the nature of opposable thumbs in humans. This is the joint that enables people to swivel, pivot, and pinch with their hands in order to grip things (Osteoarthritis of Fingers 04/20/17). Since gripping is an important everyday movement and there is only one thumb as opposed to the remaining four fingers, the thumb is exposed to more wear and tear. The pain that settles with osteoarthritis in the fingers occurs directly in the affected areas. • 10. Causes Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire On March 25, 1911 in the New York City s West village 146 people mainly young women immigrants of Italian and Jewish background perished. The women, some just teenagers would work long hours in the factory sewing shirtwaist high necked cottons blouses which were the fashion staple of the time for young women. The owners of the Triangle Shirt waist factory would lock the doors while the women worked, said to prevent theft and the visit of union reps to the location. What lead to the fire was the unsanitary factory floor. This was the exact reason to why before the actual fire, 400 of the factories employees went on strike. During this strike the women fought for better wages and safer working conditions. Unfortunately they only won some of their concessions on pay, but little was actually done by the factories owner who continued to keep the workplace in shambles. As well as the doors still locked. Besides the doors being locked there were piles of flammable fabric scraps, over flowed waste baskets and many of workers crammed in multiple floors of the building. In 1977 the fire was ignited by what was said to be a match or cigarette tossed carelessly amid the debris on the eighth floor. The fire quickly spread through the open factory floors above. The actual shirtwaist building was fire proof and still stands today. Located in the West village at the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place one could still pay the original building a visit. Those on the 10th floor escaped to the roof and took the elevator until it stopped functioning. During those days fire engine ladders only reached to the sixth floor. Unfortunately during the fire for some reason workers on the ninth floor were not informed of the blaze, and due to a lack of a building alarm system this floor had the highest number of deaths. The poorly built and unmaintained fire escapes collapsed in the heat, sending a many of the workers on a free fall to their deaths. Kendrick ordered the Code Red, didn t he? Because that s what you told Lieutenant Kendrick to do! (A Few Good Men). After continued discussion about who to blame for Santiago s death, Jessup confessed to ordering the code red (A Few Good Men). They are always there. We use them when we are lonely and in consequence, we escape our lonely world and enter the boisterous one we have escaped to a pathway full of shortcuts. Who are you after you take those shortcuts? Holden Caulfield of J.D. Salinger s The Catcher In the Rye is one who unnoticeably takes these shortcuts. When Holden escapes school after failing most of his classes, the whole world is thrown at him. He wants to get to his family, even though they are less than a mile away from him. In the end, he is just asking for forgiveness from the people around him. Holden Caulfield of J.D Salinger s The Catcher In The Rye is lonely and feels sorry for himself, and consequently, uses other people to distract himself from his journey which causes Holden to be an anti hero. Assertion Number one J.D. Salinger, the author of The Catcher In The Rye tries to show us that Holden Caulfield of The Catcher In the Rye is a slacker and uses his siblings as an easy way out of school work. During this scene in the book, Holden wrote ambot how he had to write to write a paper about a house for Stradlater , Holden s roommate. At the time, Stratlader was on a date. Holden is not speaking this line. He is just writing it. So what I did, I wrote about my brother Allie s baseball mitt. It was a very descriptive subject. It really was. My brother Allie had this left handed fielder s mitt. He was left handed. (Salinger, pg 38.) Holden says that he does not have a house to write about, so he resorts to his brother s baseball mitt. I think Holden is trying to take the easy way out of his work. When he says it was a very descriptive subject, he shows us that he is able to write on and on about it. He tells us that he does not challenge himself when it comes to schoolwork. Throughout the quote, the theme working without will is portrayed. The tone of this quote is calm. I think that this is because Holden s siblings relax him inasmuch as they are one of the few things that Holden has. Assertion Number Two J.D. Salinger, the author of The ... The Art Of War By Sun Tzu Originally written in Chinese in 514 B.C., The Art of War by Sun Tzu outlines basic, yet crucial principles and factors in military strategy that Sun Tzu claims would ensure victory in a war. There are several English translations of Sun Tzu s work, each having a slightly different interpretation due to the meticulous task of finding exact terms from Chinese to English, but some have been reviewed as reliable in conveying the true message of Sun Tzu. This includes the importance of considering economic, political, and geographical factors, objective comparisons of significant aspects between both opposing sides, handling one s army and officers, and most importantly, the use of deception. Napoleon s army was in a vulnerable position especially since the Austrian and Russian forces united and considered to attack him in spring when Napoleon s army would have diminished from their unpreparedness for winter. After realizing that his army would be at their weakest if he waited to fight in spring, Napoleon decided to trick the Allies into thinking that they must attack him immediately. To accomplish his goal in deceiving the Allies, Napoleon sent General Savary to their camp pretending to seek a peace negotiation . This gave the Allies the illusion that Napoleon felt weak and desperate for a truce. While the Russian commander in chief, General Kutsov, was confident that waiting to attack in spring was the most advantageous strategy for them, the Tsar was fooled by Napoleon s ploy and over ruled Kutsov s plan commanding Kutsov to commence their battle in the winter instead of spring. By realizing the disadvantageous position he was in and how it would make it extremely difficult to win against the Allies, Napoleon shifted his chances of victory to his favor through deception. The dire situation that Napoleon and his army was in due to poor logistics and the upcoming harsh winter would have caused many of his men to die of hunger and hypothermia. By the time spring ... But, everyone has had a mentor, or a role model, once in their life. A mentor, in literature, is a mythological archetype. In Edward Bloor s novel, Tangerine, Antoine Thomas and Luis Cruz fit as the mythological archetype of the mentor. Antoine and Luis are mentors to Paul, who is the hero, because they are both positive figures, who motivate Paul. For instance, when Paul was over at Tino s house working on the science project, he was told that Luis used to play soccer, too. Luis was also handicapped so he didn t understand how. Tino then told Paul that Luis had to be the goalie. Paul thought Tino was trying to make fun of him, but he wasn t. The text states, I looked at Tino to see if he was mocking me. He wasn t. He was just making conversation (Bloor 175). In other words, Paul really thought that Tino was making fun of him. This conversation helped Paul realize that he could still play soccer with his loss of eyesight if Luis can play with a knee injury. The word mocking adds a negative tone to this quote, but it also helps show how this helps Paul. In addition to Luis, Antoine helps motivate Paul, too. For example, Paul had gotten a call from Joey, Paul s best friend, saying that Antoine was at Mr. Donnelly s, a newspaper journalist, house. Paul rode down to see what was happening. To meet the challenge the country had no apparent choice but to reconstruct its economy or compete for foreign markets and points of strategic significance, especially in the Pacific. Another problem that emerged during this depression and could be solved by expanding the markets was the discontent caused by unemployment after the Panic of 1893.
