The United Nations Security Council Essay
Since the 1970s, the People s Republic of China has acquired membership of various institutions of
international cooperation, the most noticeable ones are the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
in 1971 and the WTO in 2001. China has been recognized as an important state actor in regards to
global governance. Nonetheless, China in many ways is different from these westerns powers,
especially the United States, who has significantly influenced and shaped global governance since the
late twenty century. The United States and its western partners prefer a strong role for liberal
democratic values in international affairs, and they spare no effort to expand the liberal democracy
related norms in the international community. On the contrary, Chinese government, as a itself non
democratic body, is apparently not a supporter of liberal democracy, neither internationally nor
domestically. its economy remains firmly controlled by the state although partly liberalized since the
Reform and Open in 1979.
II. The U.S. efforts
For more than a decade, promoting liberal democracy in China has always desirable in America s
national interests, successive U.S. presidents have declared the significance and necessity of political
liberalization and democratization in China. The policy of Constructive Engagement , proposed by
Clinton administration, called for working with Chinese government for close bilateral economic and
political cooperation, as well as U.S. advocacy for democracy,

Crime Scene Investigation Australia
Introduction
In this I will be explaining the 7 steps of crime scene investigation in Australia. Crime scene
investigation is a very serious but interesting topic. This is just the basic steps of crime scene
investigation, crime scene investigation is much more advanced.
Body
1. Secure the scene securing the scene is the responsibly of the first police officer. The safety of all the
people around the crime scene is the first goal. The first officer on the scene will begin keeping a
security log of those who visit the crime scene. The officer will request any additional needs required
for the first investigation.
2. Step 2 is to separate the witness because they are not allowed to discuss the situation. There

Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment
In our case Faculty Empowerment the Changing University Environment we came across two separate
subjects both of which our group can relate to and both of which correlate to each other. In the
beginning we reviewed the topic of nowadays Universities and what has changed recently and how
such change might have affected administrational structure on empowering faculty. We used the data
provided to us in the case study to determine the following facts. First, Universities Environment has
drastically changed during the last 6 years. Because of the rapidly changing workplace environment,

Parents, the general public and the media seem to applaud these efforts (Wiggins). The scores on these
standardized tests, such as the ITBS, are published in many local and statewide newspapers.
Universities are evaluated and compared to each other using predominately this test data. If this
teaching to the test is beneficial for raising university s test scores, then maybe we should change the
whole university environment to become more aligned with those elements that would foster
improvement on these tests. If it raises test scores it must be sound educational practice. Can this be
accurate? Empowerment Through Online Education
In a 2007 report published by the Sloan Consortium, most universities stated that the main reasons
they continued to expand their online education programs were because such programs improved
student access to education. For example, when universities offer courses online, they can work
around limited classroom space, instructor shortages, and conflicting course schedules to offer more
students more classes. Similarly, in taking an online course that allows them to complete assignments
at their own pace, students can work around their busy course and work schedules, as well as tailor
their coursework to their own personal learning styles. Students increasingly enroll in online courses
over their summer break while they live with their parents and work summer jobs.

Within Justice J. Harlan s dissenting argument in Katz v. United States (1967), Justice Harlan re

How Did Siddhartha Gautama Obtain Life Of An Ascetic
As the previous source indicates, Siddhartha Gautama passionately pursued the life of an ascetic.
According to one tradition, he ultimately reduced his daily food to a single grain of rice. After six year
of self denial, he was on the verge of death by starvation, and yet he was no closer to discovering how
one might escape rebirth and the sorrows of the mortal existence. Dharma from Buddha is a key
concept in Buddhism and in Hinduism. It had two meanings when it is capitalized it means, ´´The
Teachings´´. The other meaning is with the lower case dharma it means ´´The way things are´´.
Dharma has been thought as unchanging universal. The earliests writings from Vedas stated that only
sages can experience it. Later on the writings known as

Essay On Sallust, Catiline s War
Classics 201: Dr. T. Rose Parth Patel Topic #3: Sallust, Catiline s War In this paper, I will discuss the
historic events of a Roman coup as written by Gaius Sallustius also known as Sallust. Early Rome,
according to Sallust s best knowledge, was built by two groups of people, exiled Trojan soldiers under
Aeneas and native aborigines without government or law. For a time after the founding of this
settlement, they prospered and no ill intents of human nature toward another were found. As the city
continued to grow in wealth, size, and number it was soon the envy of neighboring kingdoms who
were wrought with greed. The Romans having held ground and won these neighboring kingdoms
through battle, established a city founded on monarchy law and created allies with nearby kingdoms.
After the seed of tyrannical rule was developed Rome changed government and appointed two rulers
with annual power, the king and the senate. Now as Rome was under new command of the usurper
Sulla the Roman army, for the first time, indulged in women, drink, material wealth, and riches. Now
these plagues of sin have taken hold of young romans and continued their destructive paths to conquer
the minds of all Rome. This was the setting for Sallust s history about the ... Show more content on

The false aspects were of Sallust s account of Catiline s demeaner and his internal workings. He
claimed Catiline to be evil but Sallust writes about how he was fighting for freedom for the poor and
the elimination of mass accrued debts. The true respects are that he employed the evil in his army and
that he started this rebellion because of his own shortcomings. I believe Catiline to be noble but also
corrupt, he is a man of both yin and yang but the dark is overpowering the light as time passes. We can
trust Sallust in his recounts and we can also say that Catiline was a legitimate threat to the

Essay about Internet Pornography Censorship vs Free Speech
The Internet is a worldwide network of computers and databases that has evolved rapidly in recent
years. Tremendous amounts of information are transmitted and are fairly easy to obtain. Although in
the past the information available was for the most part educational and business oriented, in recent
years it has become much more diverse and questions have been raised as to the appropriateness of the
content being viewed and consumed. Another issue is whether or not the government should take an
active role in censoring it, especially when it comes to pornography, or cyberporn, as it is more
commonly referred to when it is displayed on the Internet.
Should cyberporn be censored? If so, who is responsible, parents or the government? ... Show more

The Supreme Court views obscenity as completely outside the scope of the first amendment s
protection, and the Government may regulate speech freely as long as the Miller test is fulfilled
(Simon 2).
Although many may consider pornography to be obscene, by this definition, there seems to be some
ambiguity. Pornography is defined as: Writings, pictures, etc., intended primarily to arouse sexual
desire.
Another question that needs to be asked is, does censorship of cyberporn violate the first amendment
of the constitution? The first amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or of the press; or of the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for
a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights) The Supreme Court has consistently ruled that pornography
and obscenity fall outside the first amendment. The Internet is akin to commercial network television,
and government can constitutionally restrict T.V., so why not the Internet? Probably because adult
conduct that includes sexually oriented conduct that has been considered by many to be immoral, has
been protected by the First Amendment when it takes place in a private setting (Ford, Marrin, and

Neil Armstrong Accomplishments
Neil Armstrong: From Planes to Rockets Neil Armstrong s love for anything that could fly in the air
was clearly evident. Armstrong achieved things that most people could only dream of, and did them in
a calm and humble way. Although Neil Armstrong is recognized as the first man to ever set foot on the
moon, he would spend the rest of his life setting many goals for the space and aviation programs.
These goals would certainly show the greatness of mankind and how far we have come. Armstrong s
achievements proved to be a bright spot at the end of the difficult decade of the 1960 s during which
American suffered the murder of a president, the Vietnam War, and a lot violence.
Neil Armstrong was born into a middle class family that moved around a lot when he was younger. On
August 5th, 1930 in the little town of Wapakoneta, Ohio Stephen and Viola Armstrong gave birth to
their newborn son Neil. Neil s father was a state auditor, who traveled the state s counties to examine
their financial records. Since it took around a whole year to audit each county s books, Armstrong and
his family moved quite often. As a young boy Neil had a very exciting and adventurous life but would
develop a sense of security and calmness. During his younger years Neil became very interested in
planes. At 2 years old, 1932 Armstrong went to the National Air Races with ... Show more content on

“When People In The United States Think Of Children S Rights
When people in the United States think of children s rights they usually think of children in third
world countries who are victims of abusive child labor practices or insurmountable poverty (Wilson
1). However, in reality it is not just in third world countries, it is also in the United States. From the
American colonial period till the mid nineteenth century, child labor has been an important issue. It
has taken many years to come to an agreement of the definition of child labor. One way to define child
labor is: All forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, such as the sale and trafficking of
children, debt bondage and serfdom, and forced or compulsory labor, including forced or compulsory

Even though it was expected of children to work, some parents did not want to send their children to
work. Parents really only sent their children to work for an extra income to help the family out of
poverty. Poverty is the main reason that children are sent to work. The following is the definition of
poverty, Poverty is the inability, through lack of income or wealth, to provide decent housing,
clothing, health care, nutrition, or education for oneself or one s family. (Riggs 1). Because parents
were desperate for money they would take their children s names off of the school list when education
became required (Carson 1). Parents would also feel obligated to give their children permission to
work and bring in a small amount of money, but much needed funds. It was also an expectation that
children could provide a profitable benefit for their families. When the nation began to industrialize,
the types of jobs shifted from farm work to factory work. The jobs that children held would change as
they became older and more difficult so that in the end they would have more skills. At that time,
many believed that children should work because it helped them develop a strong work ethic. Many
employers took advantage of children; parents found it difficult to keep their kids away from hard
labor because the additional income was crucial to the family s survival (Benson 2). This was a real
challenge for parents as the income was critical to the

For the purpose of struggling against some additional difficulties when going internationally,

implementing an effective strategy on an international level .
1.3.1 The Importance of International Business
International business is a process which its all activities are carried out under the control of
government. It involves two or more countries. To understand the importance of going internationally,
it would be good to find out the answer of this question; why is international business important
especially for domestic companies? The simplest answer is that international business has a huge and
growing share of the business in the world. Today, many companies all around the world, large or
small, are influenced by global issues and competition for the reason of a large number of them sell
their products to and/or suppliers from foreign countries secretly and/or stay ın the competition against
products and services which come from other markets.
International business is a kind of opportunity for the countries and the consumers to be exposed to
these services and goods which are hard to find in their own region. Clothes, food, jewellery, stocks,
wines, spare parts and the similar products are always ready to use all the time in international
markets. Providing a service is also done with some ways such as; banking, consulting and

How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society
Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless
(Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their fellow
sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska
gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. We are
called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the world we live in.
After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to me the severity of
homelessness in America and how simple it can be to change it. Community First! not only builds tiny
homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives them a community to become
a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First! Village would not only
strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also support the movement to end
homelessness through providing a home and community to a young outcasted individual.
Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has grown
to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the homeless
in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of 19,000
volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has been
building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The village
features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market, movie theater,
and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers come in for
construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now, the village has
housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes continues to house more
people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major cities of the work this
organization has founded and grown. Many of the people living in the village have come from a
variety of lives before moving into the community. Some old, some new, and often have been alone
most of their life.

Leonardo Da Vinci And Leonardo Da Vinci
The Renaissance is celebrated for having been a period of remarkable advancement in the fields
pertaining to art, literature, and science. However, with such advancements rendered too, anatomical
innovation. Progress relating to European medical knowledge was principally attributed to a renewed
curiosity in the ancient concepts of the Greek and Roman civilizations. The Renaissance too denoted a
decline in Christianity in art, as society moved away from a strictly religious reawakening present in
the Middle Ages, towards that of a more humanistic concern. The significance of this decline
supplemented by the bolstered public support of both art and science inspired an atmosphere, which
was conducive to anatomical advancements. Specifically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Renaissance is significant as it denoted a shift in the cultural attitude of anatomical dissections.
Leading up to, and amidst this time, physicians were tasked with learning human anatomy through the
writing of Galan, an ancient Greek physician (129 216AD). The reason for such is that the Church was
against the dissection of anatomical dissections. Supplemented by the additional burden of being
reliant upon the weather as a means by which the bodies could be both preserved and cooled,
anatomists rarely dissected corpses, and those that were studied were that of executed criminals.
Andreas Vesalius was also a prominent artist, and anatomist within the Renaissance, famous for his,
book: De Humani Corpis Fabrica (On the Fabric of the Human Body) (Laurenza 20). Vesalius s work
evoked considerable changes to anatomical study, as he argued for the ability of students to explore
the inner workings of the human body, rather than being reliant upon the words of their predecessors
(Laurenza 20; Leopold 1). Furthermore, Vesalius through his studies revealed, existent faults in Galen
s assertions, whilst proposing anatomical theories previously not discovered (Leopold 1).
The Renaissance fostered the promotion of science through scientific innovation. Namely, the advent
of print by movable type enabled anatomical teachings to grow, as textbooks concerning the human

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost Essay
Robert Frost uses metaphor and symbolism extensively in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening ,
developing deeper and more complex meanings from a superficially simple poem. Frost s own
analysis contributes greatly to our appreciation of the importance of metaphor, claiming that metaphor
[is] the whole of thinking, inviting the reader to interpret the beautiful scene in a more profound way.
However, the multitude of possible interpretations sees it being read as either carefully crafted lyric, a
suicide poem, [or] as recording a single autobiographical incident . Judith Oster argues, therefore, that
the social conditions individual to each reader tangibly alter our understanding of metaphor. Despite
the simplicity of language, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The issues that Frost explores are universalised by metaphor, with allusions to literary traditions such
as in Hamlet s soliloquy, where the nature of life is explored. These conflicts between our duties and
the promise of sleep are pre eminently relevant to both the personal dilemma faced by the traveller but
also to the reader, who is no closer to determining whether the final conclusion made is one of suicide
and rest or whether the promises outweigh the traveller s intemperance with the woods. As the poem
becomes increasingly complex, the conventional metaphor of falling snow contributes layer upon
layer of meaning. The downy flake transcends its literal sense, becoming a blanket that both obscures
and numbs the senses, hiding the dangers whilst tempting the traveller to stop. The coldness and
darkness of the setting contrasts the purity of snow with the shadowy, even sinister idea that nature is
enticing us with eternal rest. Frost s allusions to the poem, Keen fitful gusts with the line and miles to

Religion, Religion And Mythology
If religion is a mythology, then is a mythology a religion? Well, Religion and mythology may seem
like too different things, but yet they still do overlap on some aspects. Both talk about a system that
has a high importance to many people. Religion is based an organized collection of beliefs, culture,
and perspectives, that s spread around the world. While, mythology is referred to a collection of myths
which is told by a group of people. This is used to explain nature, history, or customs!
Personally I believe in Islam, the religion. In Islam we believe that god (Allah) is the creator and
sustainer of every living thing. We believe that god created the world, universe and the heavens, just
like many other religions. Also, the founder of Islam is Muhammad; to Muslims he is Allah s prophet. I
believe that Islam is different than mythology because myths don t have a known founder. They were
just passed down through generations until someone decided to write them down. Unlike Islam,
Native American mythology believes that the world was created by a crane. Natives mostly use
animals as the center of their mythologies. Also, the natives believe. God made some men of mud, but
they were very soft and limp and couldn t see. They could speak, but what they said didn t make
sense. When they got wet they couldn t even stand up. God saw that they were of no use so he broke
them up. Muslims also believe that humans are made of clay, the devils made of fire, and the angles

Establishing Goals
John Green, one of my biggest role models, once said, Imagining the future is a kind of nostalgia.
Nostalgia means something you long for, I long for a bright future. In my future, I desire to be an
author. In order to accomplish that, I must thoughtfully construct a plan that will lead me to the
ultimate result of the life that I crave for. Authors influenced me to want to become an author myself.
After reading a wide range of books by varying writers like Ned Vizzini, J.D Salinger, Natalie Babbit,
Mitch Albom, and as I said earlier, John Green, I am determined to leave that evangelical zeal that you
get from books, and only books, on my readers the way many books have done to me before.
Establishing goals is crucial to actualizing my dreams of having a gratifying career as a Young
Adult/Teen novelist. Knowledge is a key aspect when creating the goals that you will pursue because
it is extremely beneficial to know which universities you are bound to attend. For instance, my
university of choice is Columbia University of New York. I would like to study at Columbia
University because I am interested in the clubs and activities they have available there such as The
Artist Society Blog, Quiz Bowl, and Feminist Thought. Furthermore, Columbia University has many
classes and courses for writing. Defining clear goals for myself will motivate me to propel forward
with my endeavors. With a definite mindset of where I want to end up, a Point A to a Point B, it will
ease any stress

A Retrospective Cohort Design And Measuring...
The initial primary article selected was written by Chopra, Ratz, Kuhn, Lopus, Chenoweth, and Krein.
This study discusses recognizing patterns of PICC associated bloodstream infection by studying and
measuring characteristics of patients with PICCs as well as the details of the specific PICC used in
order to identify common factors of infection. The researchers viewed the topic of interest as clinically
significant due to the growing implementation of PICCs and to provide information for safer decisions
among PICC use and care of patients (Chopra et al., 2014). To recognize these patterns of infection,
the researchers opted to follow a retrospective cohort design; looking back to adult patients who
received PICCs between June 2009 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All participants were studied until the PICC(s) were excised or an infection developed. Patient
characteristics measured included: demographics, hospital unit, comorbidities, and markers of illness
(Chopra et al., 2014). Device factors considered included: duration of use, indication for placement,
complications such as dislodgement or number of insertion attempts, arm of choice used, vein of
choice, unit where PICC was placed, implanting operator such as radiologist or vascular access nurse,
number of lumens, and gauge of PICC. The association between the descriptive characteristics chosen,
both PICC and patient, and the development of bloodstream infection was determined using bivariate
logistic regression for unadjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (Chopra et al., 2014). The
study determined the most common factors among those sampled to be: an overwhelming majority of
male patients (98%), most seeking long term use for antibiotic treatment (52%) or for venous access
(21%), 85% were placed by vascular access nurses within the basilic vein of the right arm (Chopra et
al., 2014). Single lumen PICC devices (48%) were the most commonly used, many placed within
medical or surgical units (18%) and remained for a median length of time of 21 days (Chopra et al.,
2014). Over a total of 1156 catheter days, 966 PICCs were analyzed, 58 PICCs (6%) acquired

The Comic Books And Propaganda
Comic Books and Propaganda
Since the times of the Persian Empires, propaganda has been an effective tool for forces of the State
government, or other institutions trying to spread a political message, usually for militarily or
humanitarian missions. In modern times, propaganda has taken a new face with the Internet, but
during the 1940 s one of the most effective types of propaganda was the use of comic books. Currently
comic books are used around the world to spread the message of peace, war, and even religion. For
example, in Egypt a comic book is used to spread the word of Islam and what a true Muslim should
act like in accordance to Allah. Catholic undertones are used in comic books to spread a message of
Christianity to people in an interesting way, with bloody action. In Bosnia and Herzegovina during the
Bosnian War, Superman was used to get out awareness of landmines to the people in affected areas.
Comic Books are an effective form of propaganda because they are meant to be interesting, and the
superheroes show people how they should be acting during times of strife. Throughout the history of
comic books, they have been unifying and brought people together and light to certain messages for
people from different countries, cultures, and ethnicities.
Propaganda has been used for thousands of years, for example, during the time of the Persian Empire,
Darius s, also known as Darius the Great a king of the Persian Empire, use of an inscription

Functional Behavior Analysis
When faced with the challenge of altering a behavior, it is important to understand the components
which surround the behavior. Identifying those things which serve to motivate the individual to
continue engaging in, or not engage in, a behavior; what triggers it; how to define it; how often it
occurs and under what circumstances; are just a few of the questions which need to be answered in
order to effectively plan for change. Behaviors are generally learned and maintained through positive,
negative, or automatic reinforcement, and in the provision of these reinforcing effects, the behavior
serves a function with which to achieve them. Through the completion of a functional behavior
assessment one can systematically gain the information necessary to form a hypothesis as to why the
behavior is occurring, test the hypothesis, and develop a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A functional behavior assessment is systematically completed in three consecutive steps. Initially,
information is gathered through indirect assessments via interview, self reports, and those who know
the person well. This serves to define the behavior, provide background information, as well as
provide information about when the behavior is more likely or unlikely to occur and what
environmental variables might influence its occurrence. After this is completed, the professional
conducts a descriptive assessment during which observations are conducted in the natural environment
as a step toward determining a true functional relationship between the behavior and controlling
factors. This is done through the use of observational recording formats such as: ABC assessments,
time sampling, interval recording and structured descriptive assessments. A functional analysis is the
final part of the functional behavioral assessment during which the hypothesis is tested through the

A Report On The s Performance Indicators, Current Status...
Company Reports One of the first reports used is the Company Dashboard Report. This is a visual
report displaying key performance indicators, current status of metrics, and can be tailored for a
department s metrics or the overall company metrics. The dashboard provides data for a specific
measure of time (Rouse, 2016) versus a Scorecard, which provides it for a period of time. It is an
important tool for any business looking for departmental information. The information from this
report comes from within the company and provides a snapshot of where the company stands. The
PharmaSim dashboard shows a snapshot of the overview of the company that includes revenue, gross
margin, net income, and stock price. It also has a bar chart based on the department s metrics. In this
case, Allround s performance is shown (Performance Summary Period 1, 2016). The last portion of
the dashboard includes customer comments from social media. This allows for the department to see
customer feedback on a real time basis and make decisions to improve brand performance. The second
report a company can utilize is the Performance Summary. This report measures the success of a
company over a period of time (Performance Report, 2016). The example in the PharmaSim module
shows the company s overall summary for period 1 of the Allround brand and includes a summary of
the decisions made. A snapshot of this information can help a company decide which decisions are
making an impact on positive trending for

Gender Norms In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
Oftentimes in life, society holds specific views about gender and their roles, and may likewise
consider one of more significance than the other. Placed in a time where society held specific views
towards gender and it s specific roles, Boys and Girls , written by Alice Munro showcase society s
gender norms and its outlook on women which is shown through the girl s change of character.
Towards the beginning of the story, we are introduced to a 10 year old, unnamed female character and
her sibling, who is alternatively named as Lord . This shows us right from the beginning how, from
birth, a man is considered more of importance than a woman. Living on a fox farm in Ontario Canada,

Ambition And Evil In Macbeth
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare from 1599 1606. It is believed that it was first
performed in the year 1606 at Hampton Court Palace before King James I and his guests. One of the
unfamiliar facts about Macbeth is that the real Macbeth also existed. He was the king of Scotland
between 1040 1057. He also killed Duncan to become a king, but Shakespeare did not use all the
historical facts, just the basic elements. First print version of the play showed up in 1623. It is the last,
and the shortest one of four Shakespeare s big tragedies. Many critics consider it the darkest work of
Shakespeare in general.
Macbeth is a play about power, ambition, courage, evil, but this paper is about changes. How a man
can change when a chance to fulfill his dreams is presented to him. How ambition and desire for
something big can overtake human mind and crush everything standing it is way. It is a story about
general Macbeth and prophecy of three witches that one day he will be king of Scotland. Under the
influence of his wife Lady Macbeth and his blind ambition he kills King Duncan and takes over the
throne. He knows that was an evil act, and for the most of the play he suffers from guilty

Chin A Nation Of Varying Size Dating
Unlike the United States, China has been a nation of varying size dating back over 4,000 years with
over 20 different ruling dynasties. Within relatively recent history of the past 175 years, China has
undergone considerable economic shifts including a heavy communist push. Many times, the
causation for these events was war. This idea was seen numerous times in ancient China; for example,
the Ming treasure ships that were sent out for monetary and military conquest were a result of a naval
and military dominance in the Eastern Hemisphere, which allowed them to gain new countries as
tributaries with ease. Although these ships were successful in their missions, they eventually had to
destroy the ships to offset the large cost of the growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to 1810 Western nations had been spending 350 million Mexican silver dollars on porcelain,
cotton, silks, brocades, and various grades of tea, by 1837 opium represented 57 percent of Chinese
imports, and for the fiscal period 1835 36 alone China exported 4.5 million silver dollars (England and
China: The Opium Wars, 1839 60). This demonstrates how the illegal opium trade largely imbalanced
the trade with the West. It was estimated that between four and twelve million Chinese males under
the age of 40 were addicted to the use of opium. Tensions grew rapidly following the Kowloon
Incident, where drunk British sailors from several opium clipper ships rioted in Kowloon, killing a
Chinese man and vandalizing a Buddhist temple (The First and Second Opium Wars). Lin Ze xu, the
Emperor s special emissary, ordered the seizure of opium and closing of ports. In response, the British
superintendent of trade, Charles Elliot, ordered the blockade of Pearl River, thus initiating the war.
Economically, China cut off trade with Britain and the Western nations. This reinforces the idea that
they were an isolationist country with respect to trading with the West.
The first Opium War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Nanking on August 29, 1842. Some of
the most important economic parts of the treaty included, Ceding the island of Hong Kong to Great
Britain, opened five Treaty ports to Western trade and residence, and paid nine million dollars in

I often wonder how much more amazing my mother would have been if she had been afforded the
opportunity of receiving a proper education. Last but not least, spirituality was highly valued in our
home more so than anything else. My mother was a strong woman of faith. She had to be because the
deck was stacked against her: she was black, widowed with little education. Though she had those
things against her, I believe those same things molded and shaped her to being the influential person
she was. My mother seen a lot of hard times, she was no stranger to adversity and obstacles but she
always believed in prayer and the fact that the Lord would make a way out of no way. When she had
nothing else she had her faith and it made everything alright.

that they have made are the traditional Native American teepee which they only used for their
nomadic trips in which they are following their prey, bison and other animals. Their more permanent
homes were called earth lodges and were extremely simplistic in design, yet functioned sufficiently.
The earth lodges were just holes in the ground with a kind of dome covered with dirt and materials of
that type. In the 19th century the Mandan lived in dome shaped earth lodges clustered in stockaded
villages; their economy centred on raising corn (maize), beans, pumpkins, sunflowers, and tobacco
and on hunting buffalo, fishing, and trading with nomadic Plains tribes (Source C). To make things
easier and more efficient the Mandans also were able to create weapons and tools. They were usually
just the typical straightforward devices such as bows and arrows, axes, knives, shields, spears. Some
different weapons were shields, clubs, and lances. Mandan hunters used bows and arrows. In war,
Mandan men fired their bows or fought with war clubs and hide shields (Source A) Clothing was also

When I initially found out that I was interviewing Josh for my one to one I wasn t too stoked on the

uncomfortable by the Asianess of the room, so I asked him if he would rather do the interview
somewhere else. He replied back that he was fine with the space so we carried on with our 1 on 1.

The Importance Of Morality In New Zealand
New Zealand is a geographically isolated country in the Pacific Ocean. It has a population of an
estimated 4.2 million according to the latest five yearly census conducted in 2013 (2013 Census). Of
the census surveyed population in 2013, 47.65% classified themselves as Christian, with 41.92%
having no religion and 1.18% following Islam (New Zealand Population (2017)). Islam is the religious
faith of Muslims, based on their sacred text, the Quran, which their god Allah revealed to the Prophet
Muhammad in the early 600s. Muslims recognize the Quran as the fundament of Islamic law known
as Sharia, politics, culture, and religion. Sharia dictates that all food consumed by Muslims be halal, a
term meaning that it is permissible for consumption. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other Sharia conditions include killing the animal with a single knife cut below the Adam s Apple, so
that both the respiratory and jugular veins are cut, forcing the animal to bleed out and thus die. In New
Zealand, as shown in the Commercial Slaughter Code of Welfare, it is mandatory to stun all animals
so they are unconscious prior to slaughter and the animal must remain unconscious until the animal is
deemed dead. Asia Pacific Halal Services New Zealand agrees that stunning of animals is permissible
as long as the heart is not stopped. The meat inspector stamps all carcasses once they meet the halal
requirements, regardless whether for export or for the domestic market. Currently, there are no
regulations for labeling halal meat for the New Zealand domestic market. The lack of halal labeling
contributes to a perceived erosion of religious freedom. Halal is an important issue for Muslims as
they are forbidden to eat non halal or haram, meaning not permissible, food. The Quran has several
verses relating to halal but the most relevant one is:
So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His
verses. And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is
grave disobedience. (Ali, Y English Quran 6:118, 121).
By not obeying the dietary laws contained in Sharia, a Muslim will not have any of his good deeds
recognized by Allah and will be denied admittance into Paradise.

Proteus mirabilis:
I. Introduction:
Proteus mirabilis is a Gram negative, dimorphic bacillus and a facultative anaerobe bacterium. It is a
motile member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. This bacteria colonies shows a unique characteristic
called swarming behavior. Swarming occurs when the flagellate rods grow into long chain swarmer

Diseases:
Statistically, about 90% of the proteus infections are caused by proteus mirabilis. It is an opportunist
pathogen, which means it can cause diseases if it colonizes another place other than the
gastrointestinal tract.
P. mirabilis is commonly associated with urinary tract infections. The infection begins when the
organism moves from urethra to the urinary bladder. Urinary tract infections caused by P. mirabilis are
mostly found in patients under long term catherization. Other groups of patients that are at high risks
of the diseases include; those patients with structural abnormalities of the urinary tract, patients with
recurrent infections and patients whose infections were acquired in the hospital or long term care
facilities.
Proteus mirabilis infections accounts for 1% 2% of urinary tract infections in healthy women, 5% of
nosocomial urinary infections and catheterization has a high prevalence of 20% 45%. The organism
causes bladder infection and kidney infection. P. mirabilis produces large amounts of urease which
splits urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. This process increases the alkalinity of the urine and also
it precipitates magnesium and calcium in the form of struvite and apatite crystals respectively. The
results is the formation of renal stones.

A Research On Positive Accounting Theory
positive accounting hypothesis (PAT) estimates that, in flawed markets, accounting decision may be
controlled by directors looking to impact reported income and capital structure (Watts and
Zimmerman, 1978). Specifically, the positive accounting hypothesis (PAT) contends that accounting
decisions are liable to be spurred by components, for example, supervisors extra arranges, the
company s obligation/value proportions and the more extensive political impact of outsiders (Watts
and Zimmerman, 1978; 1986).
The primary goal of this critique is to clarify how administration accounting created and the reasons
that have been propelled in scholastic writing to bolster this improvement. Since the field is so

Functionalist Perspective On Divorce
Divorce is such a personal and common thing in America. There are so many couples who go through
the act of divorce every day. According to Kanewicher and Harris (2014), forty to fifty percent of
couples will end in divorce within the first few years of marriage. Divorce is the legal dissolution of a
marriage by a court or other competent body. There are many factors that may lead couples into
divorce. Some of those factors are, marrying too young, low education levels and overall just lack of
preparation (Kanewischer, 2015). Although divorce is common now, it was not like this back in the
late 1900 s. Divorce was not allowed and most of the time people did not want to get divorce because
of all the time and effort they put into their marriage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, children from divorced families did have more behavioral problems than children from non
divorced families. They continue to struggle with the behaviors well into their adolescence stage and
into their adult stage (Weaver, 2015). It makes maintaining relationships and trusting others difficult.
There are three different theoretical perspectives. Functionalist perspective, which emphasizes the way
in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. Functionalists see the
contribution that it makes to society. The conflict perspective, assumes that social behavior is best
understood in terms of tension between groups over power or the allocation of resources, and political
representation. The interactionalist perspective, which generalize about everyday forms of social
interaction in order to explain society as a whole (Schaefer). In the topic of divorce, it seems as if the
functionalist perspective explains it well. Most of the people get a divorce because they are unhappy
within the marriage. If the couple continued to be married it could cause more problems such as
affairs, theft, depression, etc., therefore ruining the society s stability. Both individuals would be
happier and there would be fewer dysfunctional families. Through the functionalist perspective, the
idea of divorce is

Politeness Principle 1. Introduction Roman Holiday is a classical romance comedy film in which a
reporter falls in love with a runaway European princess. As a very influential film, Roman Holiday
makes a deep impression on the audience with its funny plots and expressive dialogues. However,
most of the critics attribute its success to the plot arrangement and actors performance. As far as the

correspond to the above maxims. Therefore, the followings are the practical analysis of the dialogues
in Roman Holiday on the basis of the six maxims of Leech s Politeness Principle. 3.Analysis of the
dialogues in Roman Holiday 3.1 Manifestation of Tact Maxim in Roman Holiday Tact Maxim is
oriented towards other s interests, wants and needs. It is often used in directive situations, such as
requests, which are often indirect, tentative, giving an opportunity to refuse, and also minimizing
speaker s imposition on hearer. It has positive and negative sub maxims: Minimize the cost to other.
Maximize the benefit to other. In the film, there are many conversations observing this maxim. When
poor Joe wants to borrow some money from the landlord Giovanni so as to take the princess out down
the town and make an exclusive interview on her. Joe asked in an indirect way: Joe: Swell! Thanks a
lot. Oh er, Giovanni, er... How would you like to make some money? Giovanni: Money? Joe: Yeah.
That s the stuff. Now look, I ve got a sure thing: double your money back in two days. Giovanni:

Just three hundred meters of nothing but iron. It stands tall, France s largest attraction, which is
frequented by millions of visitors each year. It has become its trademark. Everyone in the world,
automatically associate Paris with an Eiffel Tower, its icon. Everyone s imagines being on top, looking

It also received a lot of criticism for its design and was even called metal asparagus .
It took 132 workers 2 years, 2 months and 5 days to complete the project. Despite the riskiest design
to construct, due to all the safety measures being taken, only 1 man died, during the installation of the
elevators, which travel at a 60 degree curve. The men used 18,038 pieces of wrought iron and 2.5
million rivets to build the 1023 ft. height monument which weighs 10,100 tons . The base pillars of the
tower are oriented with the four points of the compass. It was the tallest building in the world for over
40 years, before the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. The original design
housed an apartment for Gustave Eiffel at the very top of the tower. McCollum writes, The sky high
hideaway had plush rugs, oil paintings, and even a grand piano (22). The paint on the tower gets
changed every 7 years and weighs as much as 10 elephants. During different weather conditions, the
tower can sway 5 inches and during the intense heat, can grow up to 7 inches in height. It takes
exactly 1665 steps to climb to the top of the tower. The lifts operating the tower travel over two and a
half times the circumference of Earth per year.
Until the 1909, the tower was lit exclusively by the gas lamps only and today it is being lighted by
over 20,000 light bulbs and 336 spotlights. It s important to note that this architectural wonder was

The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity
Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity
Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower
concentration region. Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however,
osmosis is when water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane. The plasma
membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable membrane. Thus, it
only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important
because it protects the cell from certain materials that can potentially be toxic to the cell by not
allowing the cell to diffuse uniformly; this means that not all particles can equally facilitate to the cell
(encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane is caused by two factors, their
size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move but
if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the
selectively permeable membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents
large molecules such as sugar molecules from passing through; the sugar molecules are known as
solute (BBC, 2014).
However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by
themselves. Facilitated diffusion can help these molecules due specialize proteins such as the channel
protein and

Sensitive Periods in Early Development Essay examples
Sensitive Periods in Early Development From the moment of conception to the moment we are born
and grow into adulthood, the timing of even the first beginning of our life journey is crucial. Even the
timing of fertilization can be too soon or too late in which will cause the organism to be destroyed.
(The Development of Children, 2nd ed). The mother carrying a baby has a responsibility to ensure
enough nutrition is supplied for the rapid growth of the organism. However it is also crucial that the
fetus also plays a part to survive, by being active and moving to develop. Hamburger, 1975 illustration
of fetal activity (as cited in The Development of Children, 2nd ed. p.87.) indicates that fetal ... Show

The unwanted children born weighed less at birth and needed more medical care even though the
mothers were judged to be in good health. Fewer of the children were breast fed, they had more
difficulties in school, and they were referred for psychiatric help more often as teenagers. Also that by
the time they had reached adulthood, many were more likely to have antisocial behavior problems. So
here we can see from this research that stress also plays a vital role of a healthy developing baby.
Some fact (Yarrow, 1961, as cited in Early Experience, 1967) states that also the first few years of life
have crucial effects upon later development and adult characteristics and that the significance of early
infantile experience for later life development has been repeated so frequently and so seriously that the
general effectiveness of this declaration is now almost unchallenged. Bowlby, 1951, (as cited in Early
Experience, 1967) quotes that the prolonged deprivation of the young child of maternal care may have
grave and far reaching effects in his character and so on the whole of his future life. In comparison to
this J.B. Watson (1928) also felt passionately about the first two years of a Childs life. He believed
they were the most important and that

Essay On Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome
Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is a very serious birth defect. Studies say, each year approximately...
640 to 1440 infants in the United States are born with HLHS (Paediatr Child Health,2). Hypoplastic
Left Heart Syndrome, also known as HLHS, is a birth defect where the left ventricle of the heart is
either underdeveloped or absent. Today, there are heart surgeries that can help children born with
HLHS survive longer and sometimes even live long, happy lives. Though, not all children survive
HLHS. Many infants die whilst waiting for a donor heart. I remember standing next to the small,
white casket. A little white blanket and flowers had been placed atop of it. Inside laid a little girl. Her
tiny body, motionless. A stuffed animal put together by her aunt and sisters laid next to her. My family

slept on a mattress on the floor in her living room. I refused to go anywhere without my favorite
stuffed animal. My grandma babysat Evelyn and I a lot, too. During this time, I felt alone. My parents
were at the hospital a lot. I felt I could not trust anyone. I had no one to share my secrets with. I began
to hide my feelings. I plastered a fake smile on my face and pretended everything was going to be
okay. I knew it was not going to be okay. If Kaylee got her heart transplant, the family would have to
get rid of our cat, Maggie. If Kaylee did not get a heart in time, she would die. Kaylee was put on a
heart transplant list, and she waited there for a donor heart. She waited and waited, until her little body
could not take the waiting anymore. She passed away on August 18, 2011. It was a sad day, for all of
the Krumm family. We had her funeral at St. Veronica Church, and buried her in Section 13 of Mount

  • 2. The United Nations Security Council Essay Since the 1970s, the People s Republic of China has acquired membership of various institutions of international cooperation, the most noticeable ones are the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 1971 and the WTO in 2001. China has been recognized as an important state actor in regards to global governance. Nonetheless, China in many ways is different from these westerns powers, especially the United States, who has significantly influenced and shaped global governance since the late twenty century. The United States and its western partners prefer a strong role for liberal democratic values in international affairs, and they spare no effort to expand the liberal democracy related norms in the international community. On the contrary, Chinese government, as a itself non democratic body, is apparently not a supporter of liberal democracy, neither internationally nor domestically. its economy remains firmly controlled by the state although partly liberalized since the Reform and Open in 1979. II. The U.S. efforts For more than a decade, promoting liberal democracy in China has always desirable in America s national interests, successive U.S. presidents have declared the significance and necessity of political liberalization and democratization in China. The policy of Constructive Engagement , proposed by Clinton administration, called for working with Chinese government for close bilateral economic and political cooperation, as well as U.S. advocacy for democracy, ... Parents, the general public and the media seem to applaud these efforts (Wiggins). The scores on these standardized tests, such as the ITBS, are published in many local and statewide newspapers. Universities are evaluated and compared to each other using predominately this test data. If this teaching to the test is beneficial for raising university s test scores, then maybe we should change the whole university environment to become more aligned with those elements that would foster improvement on these tests. If it raises test scores it must be sound educational practice. Can this be accurate? Empowerment Through Online Education In a 2007 report published by the Sloan Consortium, most universities stated that the main reasons they continued to expand their online education programs were because such programs improved student access to education. For example, when universities offer courses online, they can work around limited classroom space, instructor shortages, and conflicting course schedules to offer more students more classes. Similarly, in taking an online course that allows them to complete assignments at their own pace, students can work around their busy course and work schedules, as well as tailor their coursework to their own personal learning styles. Students increasingly enroll in online courses over their summer break while they live with their parents and work summer jobs. Online Education s Historical Counterpart Online educations ... • 7. Essay On Sallust, Catiline s War Classics 201: Dr. T. Rose Parth Patel Topic #3: Sallust, Catiline s War In this paper, I will discuss the historic events of a Roman coup as written by Gaius Sallustius also known as Sallust. Early Rome, according to Sallust s best knowledge, was built by two groups of people, exiled Trojan soldiers under Aeneas and native aborigines without government or law. For a time after the founding of this settlement, they prospered and no ill intents of human nature toward another were found. As the city continued to grow in wealth, size, and number it was soon the envy of neighboring kingdoms who were wrought with greed. The Romans having held ground and won these neighboring kingdoms through battle, established a city founded on monarchy law and created allies with nearby kingdoms. After the seed of tyrannical rule was developed Rome changed government and appointed two rulers with annual power, the king and the senate. Now as Rome was under new command of the usurper Sulla the Roman army, for the first time, indulged in women, drink, material wealth, and riches. Now these plagues of sin have taken hold of young romans and continued their destructive paths to conquer the minds of all Rome. This was the setting for Sallust s history about the ... He claimed Catiline to be evil but Sallust writes about how he was fighting for freedom for the poor and the elimination of mass accrued debts. The true respects are that he employed the evil in his army and that he started this rebellion because of his own shortcomings. I believe Catiline to be noble but also corrupt, he is a man of both yin and yang but the dark is overpowering the light as time passes. We can trust Sallust in his recounts and we can also say that Catiline was a legitimate threat to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay about Internet Pornography Censorship vs Free Speech The Internet is a worldwide network of computers and databases that has evolved rapidly in recent years. Tremendous amounts of information are transmitted and are fairly easy to obtain. Although in the past the information available was for the most part educational and business oriented, in recent years it has become much more diverse and questions have been raised as to the appropriateness of the content being viewed and consumed. Another issue is whether or not the government should take an active role in censoring it, especially when it comes to pornography, or cyberporn, as it is more commonly referred to when it is displayed on the Internet. Should cyberporn be censored? If so, who is responsible, parents or the government? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Supreme Court views obscenity as completely outside the scope of the first amendment s protection, and the Government may regulate speech freely as long as the Miller test is fulfilled (Simon 2). Although many may consider pornography to be obscene, by this definition, there seems to be some ambiguity. Pornography is defined as: Writings, pictures, etc., intended primarily to arouse sexual desire. Another question that needs to be asked is, does censorship of cyberporn violate the first amendment of the constitution? The first amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights) The Supreme Court has consistently ruled that pornography and obscenity fall outside the first amendment. The Internet is akin to commercial network television, and government can constitutionally restrict T.V., so why not the Internet? Probably because adult conduct that includes sexually oriented conduct that has been considered by many to be immoral, has been protected by the First Amendment when it takes place in a private setting (Ford, Marrin, and Esposito 1). ... Although Neil Armstrong is recognized as the first man to ever set foot on the moon, he would spend the rest of his life setting many goals for the space and aviation programs. These goals would certainly show the greatness of mankind and how far we have come. Armstrong s achievements proved to be a bright spot at the end of the difficult decade of the 1960 s during which American suffered the murder of a president, the Vietnam War, and a lot violence. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it was expected of children to work, some parents did not want to send their children to work. Parents really only sent their children to work for an extra income to help the family out of poverty. Poverty is the main reason that children are sent to work. The following is the definition of poverty, Poverty is the inability, through lack of income or wealth, to provide decent housing, clothing, health care, nutrition, or education for oneself or one s family. (Riggs 1). Because parents were desperate for money they would take their children s names off of the school list when education became required (Carson 1). Parents would also feel obligated to give their children permission to work and bring in a small amount of money, but much needed funds. It was also an expectation that children could provide a profitable benefit for their families. When the nation began to industrialize, the types of jobs shifted from farm work to factory work. The jobs that children held would change as they became older and more difficult so that in the end they would have more skills. At that time, many believed that children should work because it helped them develop a strong work ethic. Many employers took advantage of children; parents found it difficult to keep their kids away from hard labor because the additional income was crucial to the family s survival (Benson 2). • 15. How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless (Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their fellow sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. We are called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the world we live in. After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to me the severity of homelessness in America and how simple it can be to change it. Community First! not only builds tiny homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives them a community to become a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First! Village would not only strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also support the movement to end homelessness through providing a home and community to a young outcasted individual. Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has grown to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the homeless in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of 19,000 volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has been building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The village features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market, movie theater, and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers come in for construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now, the village has housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes continues to house more people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major cities of the work this organization has founded and grown. However, with such advancements rendered too, anatomical innovation. Progress relating to European medical knowledge was principally attributed to a renewed curiosity in the ancient concepts of the Greek and Roman civilizations. The Renaissance too denoted a decline in Christianity in art, as society moved away from a strictly religious reawakening present in the Middle Ages, towards that of a more humanistic concern. The significance of this decline supplemented by the bolstered public support of both art and science inspired an atmosphere, which was conducive to anatomical advancements. Specifically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Renaissance is significant as it denoted a shift in the cultural attitude of anatomical dissections. Leading up to, and amidst this time, physicians were tasked with learning human anatomy through the writing of Galan, an ancient Greek physician (129 216AD). The reason for such is that the Church was against the dissection of anatomical dissections. Supplemented by the additional burden of being reliant upon the weather as a means by which the bodies could be both preserved and cooled, anatomists rarely dissected corpses, and those that were studied were that of executed criminals. Andreas Vesalius was also a prominent artist, and anatomist within the Renaissance, famous for his, book: De Humani Corpis Fabrica (On the Fabric of the Human Body) (Laurenza 20). Vesalius s work evoked considerable changes to anatomical study, as he argued for the ability of students to explore the inner workings of the human body, rather than being reliant upon the words of their predecessors (Laurenza 20; Leopold 1). Furthermore, Vesalius through his studies revealed, existent faults in Galen s assertions, whilst proposing anatomical theories previously not discovered (Leopold 1). The Renaissance fostered the promotion of science through scientific innovation. • 17. Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost Essay Robert Frost uses metaphor and symbolism extensively in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , developing deeper and more complex meanings from a superficially simple poem. Frost s own analysis contributes greatly to our appreciation of the importance of metaphor, claiming that metaphor [is] the whole of thinking, inviting the reader to interpret the beautiful scene in a more profound way. However, the multitude of possible interpretations sees it being read as either carefully crafted lyric, a suicide poem, [or] as recording a single autobiographical incident . Judith Oster argues, therefore, that the social conditions individual to each reader tangibly alter our understanding of metaphor. Despite the simplicity of language, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issues that Frost explores are universalised by metaphor, with allusions to literary traditions such as in Hamlet s soliloquy, where the nature of life is explored. These conflicts between our duties and the promise of sleep are pre eminently relevant to both the personal dilemma faced by the traveller but also to the reader, who is no closer to determining whether the final conclusion made is one of suicide and rest or whether the promises outweigh the traveller s intemperance with the woods. As the poem becomes increasingly complex, the conventional metaphor of falling snow contributes layer upon layer of meaning. The downy flake transcends its literal sense, becoming a blanket that both obscures and numbs the senses, hiding the dangers whilst tempting the traveller to stop. The coldness and darkness of the setting contrasts the purity of snow with the shadowy, even sinister idea that nature is enticing us with eternal rest. Well, Religion and mythology may seem like too different things, but yet they still do overlap on some aspects. Both talk about a system that has a high importance to many people. Religion is based an organized collection of beliefs, culture, and perspectives, that s spread around the world. While, mythology is referred to a collection of myths which is told by a group of people. This is used to explain nature, history, or customs! Personally I believe in Islam, the religion. In Islam we believe that god (Allah) is the creator and sustainer of every living thing. We believe that god created the world, universe and the heavens, just like many other religions. Also, the founder of Islam is Muhammad; to Muslims he is Allah s prophet. I believe that Islam is different than mythology because myths don t have a known founder. They were just passed down through generations until someone decided to write them down. Unlike Islam, Native American mythology believes that the world was created by a crane. Natives mostly use animals as the center of their mythologies. Also, the natives believe. God made some men of mud, but they were very soft and limp and couldn t see. They could speak, but what they said didn t make sense. When they got wet they couldn t even stand up. God saw that they were of no use so he broke them up. In my future, I desire to be an author. In order to accomplish that, I must thoughtfully construct a plan that will lead me to the ultimate result of the life that I crave for. Authors influenced me to want to become an author myself. After reading a wide range of books by varying writers like Ned Vizzini, J.D Salinger, Natalie Babbit, Mitch Albom, and as I said earlier, John Green, I am determined to leave that evangelical zeal that you get from books, and only books, on my readers the way many books have done to me before. Establishing goals is crucial to actualizing my dreams of having a gratifying career as a Young Adult/Teen novelist. Knowledge is a key aspect when creating the goals that you will pursue because it is extremely beneficial to know which universities you are bound to attend. • 23. The Comic Books And Propaganda Comic Books and Propaganda Since the times of the Persian Empires, propaganda has been an effective tool for forces of the State government, or other institutions trying to spread a political message, usually for militarily or humanitarian missions. In modern times, propaganda has taken a new face with the Internet, but during the 1940 s one of the most effective types of propaganda was the use of comic books. Currently comic books are used around the world to spread the message of peace, war, and even religion. For example, in Egypt a comic book is used to spread the word of Islam and what a true Muslim should act like in accordance to Allah. Catholic undertones are used in comic books to spread a message of Christianity to people in an interesting way, with bloody action. In Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War, Superman was used to get out awareness of landmines to the people in affected areas. Comic Books are an effective form of propaganda because they are meant to be interesting, and the superheroes show people how they should be acting during times of strife. Throughout the history of comic books, they have been unifying and brought people together and light to certain messages for people from different countries, cultures, and ethnicities. Identifying those things which serve to motivate the individual to continue engaging in, or not engage in, a behavior; what triggers it; how to define it; how often it occurs and under what circumstances; are just a few of the questions which need to be answered in order to effectively plan for change. Within relatively recent history of the past 175 years, China has undergone considerable economic shifts including a heavy communist push. Many times, the causation for these events was war. This idea was seen numerous times in ancient China; for example, the Ming treasure ships that were sent out for monetary and military conquest were a result of a naval and military dominance in the Eastern Hemisphere, which allowed them to gain new countries as tributaries with ease. This demonstrates how the illegal opium trade largely imbalanced the trade with the West. It was estimated that between four and twelve million Chinese males under the age of 40 were addicted to the use of opium. Tensions grew rapidly following the Kowloon Incident, where drunk British sailors from several opium clipper ships rioted in Kowloon, killing a Chinese man and vandalizing a Buddhist temple (The First and Second Opium Wars). Lin Ze xu, the Emperor s special emissary, ordered the seizure of opium and closing of ports. In response, the British superintendent of trade, Charles Elliot, ordered the blockade of Pearl River, thus initiating the war. Economically, China cut off trade with Britain and the Western nations. This reinforces the idea that they were an isolationist country with respect to trading with the West. The first Opium War ended with the signing of the Treaty of Nanking on August 29, 1842. Currently, there are no regulations for labeling halal meat for the New Zealand domestic market. The lack of halal labeling contributes to a perceived erosion of religious freedom. Halal is an important issue for Muslims as they are forbidden to eat non halal or haram, meaning not permissible, food. The Quran has several verses relating to halal but the most relevant one is: So eat of that [meat] upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you are believers in His verses. And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. (Ali, Y English Quran 6:118, 121). By not obeying the dietary laws contained in Sharia, a Muslim will not have any of his good deeds recognized by Allah and will be denied admittance into Paradise. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: Proteus mirabilis is a Gram negative, dimorphic bacillus and a facultative anaerobe bacterium. It is a motile member of the family Enterobacteriaceae. This bacteria colonies shows a unique characteristic called swarming behavior. Swarming occurs when the flagellate rods grow into long chain swarmer cells, the swarmers gather together forming rafts that swim together, growing into a complex biofilm. P. mirabilis virulence factors include swarming motility and urease production. Ref: Joan L, John F. microbiology: an evolving science New York 2009, Belas, Schneider and Melch. It is an opportunist pathogen, which means it can cause diseases if it colonizes another place other than the gastrointestinal tract. P. mirabilis is commonly associated with urinary tract infections. The infection begins when the organism moves from urethra to the urinary bladder. Urinary tract infections caused by P. mirabilis are mostly found in patients under long term catherization. Other groups of patients that are at high risks of the diseases include; those patients with structural abnormalities of the urinary tract, patients with recurrent infections and patients whose infections were acquired in the hospital or long term care facilities. Proteus mirabilis infections accounts for 1% 2% of urinary tract infections in healthy women, 5% of nosocomial urinary infections and catheterization has a high prevalence of 20% 45%. The organism causes bladder infection and kidney infection. P. mirabilis produces large amounts of urease which splits urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. This process increases the alkalinity of the urine and also it precipitates magnesium and calcium in the form of struvite and apatite crystals respectively. The results is the formation of renal stones. Ref: Gus, Gonzales MD medical oncologist: proteus infections Medscape, Murray, Rosenthal, And Pfaller. Medical microbiology 7th edition 2013. ... According to Kanewicher and Harris (2014), forty to fifty percent of couples will end in divorce within the first few years of marriage. Divorce is the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court or other competent body. There are many factors that may lead couples into divorce. Some of those factors are, marrying too young, low education levels and overall just lack of preparation (Kanewischer, 2015). Although divorce is common now, it was not like this back in the late 1900 s. They continue to struggle with the behaviors well into their adolescence stage and into their adult stage (Weaver, 2015). It makes maintaining relationships and trusting others difficult. There are three different theoretical perspectives. Functionalist perspective, which emphasizes the way in which the parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. Functionalists see the contribution that it makes to society. The conflict perspective, assumes that social behavior is best understood in terms of tension between groups over power or the allocation of resources, and political representation. The interactionalist perspective, which generalize about everyday forms of social interaction in order to explain society as a whole (Schaefer). In the topic of divorce, it seems as if the functionalist perspective explains it well. Most of the people get a divorce because they are unhappy within the marriage. If the couple continued to be married it could cause more problems such as affairs, theft, depression, etc., therefore ruining the society s stability. Both individuals would be happier and there would be fewer dysfunctional families. Through the functionalist perspective, the idea of divorce is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower concentration region. Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however, osmosis is when water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane. The plasma membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable membrane. Thus, it only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important because it protects the cell from certain materials that can potentially be toxic to the cell by not allowing the cell to diffuse uniformly; this means that not all particles can equally facilitate to the cell (encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane is caused by two factors, their size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move but if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the selectively permeable membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents large molecules such as sugar molecules from passing through; the sugar molecules are known as solute (BBC, 2014). However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by themselves. Facilitated diffusion can help these molecules due specialize proteins such as the channel protein and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even the timing of fertilization can be too soon or too late in which will cause the organism to be destroyed. (The Development of Children, 2nd ed). The mother carrying a baby has a responsibility to ensure enough nutrition is supplied for the rapid growth of the organism. However it is also crucial that the fetus also plays a part to survive, by being active and moving to develop. So here we can see from this research that stress also plays a vital role of a healthy developing baby. Some fact (Yarrow, 1961, as cited in Early Experience, 1967) states that also the first few years of life have crucial effects upon later development and adult characteristics and that the significance of early infantile experience for later life development has been repeated so frequently and so seriously that the general effectiveness of this declaration is now almost unchallenged. Bowlby, 1951, (as cited in Early Experience, 1967) quotes that the prolonged deprivation of the young child of maternal care may have grave and far reaching effects in his character and so on the whole of his future life.
