My Last Duchess Comparison
Both London and My Last Duchess explore the ideas of power through social structures, hierarchy
and synecdoche. In London Blake presents the theme of power through a reportage. The narrator
wanders through a chartered street and by the chartered Thames . This shows that in the narrator s
eyes the streets are owned and even an aspect of nature such as the River Thames is in ownership of
someone. These owners that Blake refers to is the state who are believed to have acquired so much
power that they can own natural landmarks. Due to this power, the people in London wear
metaphorical manacles that are mind forged which shows they have trapped themselves due to the
pain and suffering the higher class has caused them. Also, the repetition ... Show more content on

The narrator (Duke) who is of an upper class is having a conversation with an envoy when he
mentions Will t please you sit and look at her? . This shows the Duke s commanding nature as he
almost forces the envoy to look at his painting although he uses a question it is rhetorical (envoys do
not reply) and it shows how the Duke has power. Also, the Duke s power is emphasized as he chooses
who can see the painting since none puts by the curtain I have drawn . This gives him a sense of
importance. Browning also writes she ranked my gift...with anybody s gift . This shows that the Duke
believes that names and status hold importance, power even and he expects the name of Duchess will
be enough for her but she treats everyone the same, this angers him. Throughout the poem the Duke
says that he does not have skill in speech which from the poem we can see is false. When discussing
his lack of skill he says which I have not , This shows the power in words and ultimately how he
couldn t stop her with his words because he would have to stoop he used a different way to fix his
problem. Also, he says I choose never to stoop . The I choose shows hierarchy as he has the choice.
The use of the verb stoop is interesting as it means to directly to bend one s head, associating with the
lower class or submitting yourself. This also shows the Duke s commanding nature as he refuses to
stoop he

Related Literature Of Forx Rate
San Andres, Dan Carlo C. ENG 10 T 4R Review of Related Literature In today s economy, forex rate,
the price of one currency in terms of another, has considerably contributed to the economic status of
many countries all over the world. It is considered as one of the factors that identifies and emphasizes
the welfare of a country; specifically, the welfare of its residents. With forex rate, a country can be
provided with knowledge that may help them in different situations of interests. (Wright, n.d.)
According to Chand s article, forex rate has some major types. These are the following: 1. Fixed
Exchange Rate System This system, also known as Pegged exchange rate system, manages the
steadiness of the exchange rate by fixing the exchange rate to a value of another currency or to another
valuable measure such as gold which is lead by the government. However, even though it is a fixed
exchange rate system, a small variation may still take place. 2. Flexible Exchange Rate System This
system, also known as Floating exchange rate system, retains the fluctuation of the currency s value
depending on the foreign exchange market. This market determines the exchange rate by the demand

nowadays sensors are anywhere. We take it for granted, however there are sensors in our cars, in our

The Portrayal Of Women In Western Genre
In Western genre, women are repeatedly portrayed as either the helpless damsel in distress or the wild
saloon girl. Most Western movies have elements of a gunfight, rivalry, redemption, and/or romance
written into the script. A large percentage of the stereotypes of the American West comes from these
exaggerated characters and storylines. Very rarely do western films present a strong female lead.
When they do, there is frequently a subplot of romance written into it. Few Western genre and cinema
portray the true nature of what women in the West were like. In Marcia Mullers Sweet Cactus Wine ,
the female protagonist Katy is not what most people think when they read Western genre. Portrayed as

An Observational Study Design That Could Be Appropriately...
An observational study design that could be appropriately used by an APN to study the above research
question is a cross sectional study design. Important questions to make this study applicable, is it
appropriate; is the characteristics between prevalent and incident cases a factor; have other
explanations been ruled out?
According to Curley Vitale (2012), the cross sectional study determines the exposure and outcomes at
the same time. It provides a snap shot at one point in time. The information obtained was about the
relationship of Tuberculosis and the White Ethnic group of males during a single point in time, 1993
and 2011. Cross sectional studies are applicable for screening the hypothesis due to the fact they
require a small time frame and minimal resources to manag e.
Cross sectional study design has been utilized to comprehend the prevalence of diseases, treatments,
services and outcomes. Cross sectional study strengths contain surveys that are inexpensive and takes
a shorter time to complete, and can provide descriptive data about the population of people involved in
the study. The study can be useful for assessing risk factor prevalence rate, a means to compare
groups, has the ability to study fatal diseases within a smaller population, and can study multiple
exposures (Curley Vitale, 2012).
Cross sectional weaknesses are unable to measure or determine exposures exactly because the
outcome and exposure is done simultaneously. There can be bias of variable

Analysis Of War And Peace By Leo Tolstoy
In this paper, I will discuss the concept of simplicity in War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. That simplicity
is narratively shown by character Platon Karataev (Platon for short), his dog, the complexity of Pierre
and Tolstoy s philosophy of life.
Platon and Pierre are inmates to one another. Platon shows up in Chapter 3 of Book 12, 13 and 14.
Even though a number of words Tolstoy writes about Platon is not significant compared to our
personas such as Pierre, Natasha or Prince Andrew, it s still enough for us, the reader, to perceive the
simplicity of this character. Platon is a simple person, physically and spiritually. On page 857, line
And there was so much kindliness and simplicity in his singsong voice that Pierre tried to reply ,
Pierre feels tears rising to his eyes when Platon asks if Pierre has seen a lot of trouble. Right after
acknowledging that, Platon instantly continued in the same pleasant tones to encourage Pierre (857).
He explains there are good men and there are bad men, then he offers Pierre some baked potatoes.
Pierre feels warm and welcomed. Platon treats Pierre like a friend and Platon himself is a child, an
innocent and simple one, who s waiting for so long to get a company of his visited home. That
innocence and simplicity are also shown on page 857, line his words were always waiting ready in his

Sympathy verses Judgment in Carol Ann Duffy s poem Salome
The poem Salome by Carol Ann Duffy is written from the perspective of Salome, a promiscuous
woman who is retelling her drunken night. Although it is unclear whom Salome is speaking to, she
tells her story using informal, colloquial language, as if conversing to a group of friends. Duffy uses
Biblical allusions, which suggest that the speaker can be considered a reflection of the Biblical
character Salome, who appears in the New Testament and is infamous for demanding the head of John
the Baptist. Although Duffy seems to be retelling the traditional story of Salome, she depicts Salome
as a modern figure. The following analysis will explore the Biblical allusions in Duffy s poem, which
help to determine what the poem is about, and moreover will explore how Duffy uses the dramatic
monologue to provoke the reader to have sympathy for Salome. I thus contend that Duffy takes the
reader into the mind of Salome, a character that has traditionally been portrayed as an evil, amoral
woman, in order for the reader to view her from a perspective of sympathy rather than judgment.
As stated, rather than depicting Salome as a completely wicked and cynical character, Duffy provides
indications that the reader is meant to sympathize with her. This is hinted at in the language that Duffy
uses and the different tones in each stanza, proposing that Salome s thoughts are changing

Examination Of The Bones And The Data Gathered
Introduction: Last week, a couple running in the park came across some bones. They went to the
police to report what they ve found. The bones were then sent in to be observed and tested to identify
who the bones belonged to. Based upon the analysis of the bones and the data gathered, the conclusion
is that the bones belonged an Asian female over 30 years of age that was between the height of 4 8 and
5 3 .
Summary of Findings: sex: Through examination of the bones, the individual is identified as a female.
The main bones used to determine sex are the pelvis and the skull. The pelvis is a crucial indicator of
gender, but because the individual is small in stature, the pelvis may not be as accurate. Nevertheless,
main parts of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

time cannot be determined based on the bones found due to the dependence on developmental
occurrences that take place conclude approximately at the age of 30 in the human pelvic girdle. height
: The height of the individual was determined to be between 4 8 and 5 3 based on the measurements
taken of the humerus bone. The humerus bone had the most important information to investigate the
approximate height of the individual based on the bone s maximum length. It was found that the
maximum length of the humerus was 270 mm, or 27.0 cm. After finding the maximum length of the
humerus, the number was plugged into the regression formula for the correct sex and ethnicity (in this
case it was female and Asian) to provide with the maximum and minimum heights. Normally, the
femur is predominantly used to find the height of an individual but there was no available regression
formula for a female of the Asian ethnicity.
Further Analysis: Facial reconstruction is a method of identifying human remains through an artist
modeling clay into an approximate reconstruction of the deceased person s face. The facial features
are based on the average soft tissue thickness over various places on the skull and jaw. These vary a

Analysis Of Tomorrow When The War Began
Tomorrow, When the War Began , written by John Marsden, is the first of seven books from the
Tomorrow series. Through the first person perspective of the character Ellie Linton, Marsden told the
story of a group of teenager who found themselves in the war zone after coming back from a
bushwalking trip to Hell . They later came to the realisation that an unknown force had invaded their
country. In order to survive, the group had to stick with each other and fight to win back their town.
The characters changed as the story progressed, they become more independent, they think more
strategically and built a stronger bond between each other. Marsden used various text features like the
narrative point of view, symbolism and contrast to draw sympathy from the audience. Marsden told
the story through the narrative view of Ellie Linton. She was assigned the role of writing down the
events occurred to leave a record of their experience of the invasion. Since the text was written from
what Ellie sees, hears and thinks, she included pronouns like I, you, we, us to include the readers to
the text. It makes the readers feel like they are a part of the group and they are participating in the
teens operations. She also included various emotions like bravery, love and fear within her writing.
Ellie showed that she is scared to lose her friends and her own life from being in the war zone. This
feeling developed at a very early stage of the story as she thought For the first time, we

Police Officers And Officers Police And Corrections Officers
If My Mind Could Forget the Things My Eyes Have Seen Abuse by police officers and officers in
penal institutions is a big subject in the media now. Turn to a news station and the chances of seeing at
least on case are pretty high. The most unreported incidents, however, is actually assault on police
officers and corrections officers. The media does not report these issues nearly as much as it tries to
portray officer assault on criminals. Why is it that the media covers up the big issue of officer assault
and reports the innocent criminals being assaulted? When the media is trying to scare someone they
don t say criminals are bad, instead, make it seem like the selfless officers risking their lives are the
bad guys and use it as a scare tactic to create distrust and panic in the public. Abuse falls under six
definitions when applied to law enforcement. Physical abuse: The blatant beating, striking, or physical
mistreatment of an inmate. This is a very vague area because any physical contact with an inmate can
be reported as abuse. Psychological abuse: The mental degradation of an inmate through
embarrassment, unnecessary command or criticism. Unlawful interrogation, which is literally unheard
of anymore, means the use of starvation, sleep deprivation, dehydration, etc. Excessive force: When
compliance must be obtained physically and the amount of force used far exceeds the need. Torture:
the use of stress positions water boarding and hot boxing, also

Similarities And Differences Between Hueey Long Vs Benito...
In the 1932, the March publishing of Vanity Fair included a piece of art by Miguel Covarrubias. The
original piece, titled Impossible Interview No. 4, Huey Long vs. Benito Mussolini, was made the same
year using gouache on paper. The majority of the space is used to depict two figures, and by the title,
one can determine the figure on the right is Benito Mussolini, and the figure on the left is the
Louisiana governor, Huey Long. The artwork could be described as a semi realistic cartoon of these
two people. At first glance these figures seem quite different from the clothing they are wearing and
their facial expressions, but if one looks closer at their poses and surroundings, they are rather similar.
Miguel Covarrubias uses these similarities and differences in the appearance of the two figures, and
their surroundings to show how the people they portray both had power through different means.
There are two ways the viewer can infer that these figures have power and authority. The first is the
scene around them. Behind Mussolini, on the right, is a red velvet curtain, that has a golden tie back
around waist level. This tie back, golden fringes on the bottom of the curtain, and the specific color of
the curtain all are usually found in homes of powerful or rich patrons, or in buildings of important
government figures. On the left side of the paintings, there is a stone railing with hills in the distance.
This gives an appearance that the figures are standing near a balcony

Abstract
We are familiar with the problems that our environment face due to plastics, as these consumes
massive energy and other natural resources, depleting the environment in various ways. Moreover,
their disposal has always been a constant headache and problem for the society. But plastic s usage
can t be completely ostracized as it will result in depletion of other natural resources like paper, wood
at great extent. The light weight, cost effectiveness and strength of plastics can be put in to various
good uses. The softening point of plastic is achieved at about 160 degrees Celsius. These properties of
plastics will play a good role in construction of roads. The softened plastic can be laminated over hot
aggregates and can be used as an alternative to the very costly bitumen used as a binder in road
construction.
The main objective of this paper is to discuss the significance of plastic use in road construction in
terms of strength and cost reduction.

The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada
When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of
French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become
something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land
continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special
to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history
when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can
continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and
separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4
geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec
allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and
mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual
French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada.
Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the
first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of Quebec was made to establish fur trading
posts, explore more land using the St. Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous
people, and travel further and faster

Gender Impact On Class And Gender
Effect of Class and Gender Do class and gender affect how individuals act or behave? Society has
evolved throughout the years and with that evolution, the people have separated themselves by factors
such as class and gender. This separation started many centuries ago and made a large appearance in
the Great Depression and Civil Rights Movement. Along with this division of people, actions and
behaviors seem to have been paired with certain classifications of people. In prior eras, women were
seen as fragile and not earners due to needing to stay at home and take care of children. On the
contrary, men were seen as masculine and earned a decent amount of money from working all day
long. Even though genders evolved into how they are now with women working alongside men, the
separation is still visible. Women are still fighting to get paid the same amount as men, resulting in a
certain behavior based on the gender. This behavior is one where women try to get equal pay through
comparable worth instead of just staying quiet like women used to. The factors of class and gender
cause a difference in an individual s actions and behavior in the ways of not socializing with certain
types of people, creating stereotypes, and behaving in a way to fit the norms of the specific class or
gender. There are many different articles written that can help describe how socialization, generalized
ideas, and standards cause individuals in different genders and classes to act in a certain way. A few of
the most important are Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar by Gillam and
Wooden, Seeing and Making Culture: Representing the Poor by hooks, and Girls Bodies, Girls Selves:
Body Image, Identity, and Sexuality by Lipkin. All of these articles have aspects that point towards the
fact that different reason cause individuals to perform their everyday activities in a certain way. Gillam
and Wooden explain in their article that new films produced by Disney and Pixar have changed the

Essay On Extensive Reading
6. Definition of extensive reading
Extensive reading is a language teaching procedure where learners are supposed to read large
quantities of material or long texts for global understanding, the principle goal being obtained pleasure
from the text (Bamford, 2004).
The term of Extensive Reading was originally coined by Palmer (1917) and since different terms have
been used to refer to extensive reading; such as: Supplementary Reading , Book Flood , Uninterrupted
Sustained Silent Reading , Substained Silent Reading , Reading because you want to , free Voluntary
Reading , free reading .
Extensive reading is one of the two types: the first type, where language learners read for meaning that
focuses on input. The second type, is to read for fluency development. Extensive reading is also
defined as the reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what students really enjoy about extensive reading, they are also encouraged to stop reading
anything that is not interesting or that find it too difficult.
9 4 Learners read as much as possible:
The language learning benefits of extensive reading come from the quantity of reading. For the
benefits of extensive reading to take effect, a book a week is an appropriate goal. This is a realistic
target as books written for beginning language learners are very short.
9 5 Reading speed is usually faster rather than slower:
Because of the fact that the material is easy understandable for students, their reading is fluent.
Learners are encouraged to ignore or guess the meaning of a few unknown items they may encounter
from the context.
9 6 The purpose of reading is usually related to pleasure, information and general understanding:
Extensive reading encourages reading for pleasure and information. The aim of reading is not hundred
percent comprehension; to meet the purpose of reading sufficient understanding is satisfactory.
9 7 Reading is individual and

The Importance Of Gender Equality In India And India
Equality; the state of being equal, especially in terms of status, rights, and opportunities. This seems
like a given when one reflects upon the standards and statuses both men and women have achieved,
but gender equality is still a huge issue, even from birth. Millions of children have been deemed
missing due to sex selective abortion, and these age old practices have huge consequences for society.
From economy to religion, sons are preferred in a variety of countries, such as India and America.
There are many similarities and differences regarding gender preference in India and America,
especially concerning why one sex is preferred over the other, the steps each country has taken to
prevent gender preference, and the impact gender preference has on society. India s cultural preference
for sons has been going on for thousands of years, and over 12 million girls have been lost over the
span of 30 years. In India, boys are considered the breadwinners of the family, and the ones that take
over the businesses and provide financial care. Sons are the ones that deal with family debt and
continue the ancestry of the family. Girls are regarded as burdens that drain the family with dowries
and marriage, and they are to be protected and defended . However, the deep historical practices and
preferences for sons mean millions of girls in India live a life of neglect. The sex ratios at birth in
India are severely distorted, at approximately 132 boys for every 100 girls. Females

Research Study On Conducting Communication Research
When conducting communication research, it is extremely important to take ethics into consideration.
Will this research be confidential, will you use deception, and will the research you are doing harm
any of the participants, are all extremely important factors to consider. These factors will be identified
and considered while using the following hypothesis: As children increase their technology usage,
interpersonal communication skills decrease.
Confidentiality Anonymity The first ethical consideration that must be established is whether or not
the study will offer confidentiality to the participating parties. In the instance of this communication
research study, when it comes to trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, there will be no reason to
not offer complete confidentiality and anonymity. In this study, we are analyzing children and the
guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity would offer comfort so the participants can act naturally
without fear of judgment (Jamison, n.d.). If I were a participant in this research study, I would prefer
that all of the data collected remain confidential. I personally do not feel that the research study would
need to be anonymous. This is because I am an adult and am comfortable in my responses as they
pertain to the hypothesis. The hypothesis is not asking any overly person information be disclosed.
However, since the hypothesis involves children that could be minors, I feel it is necessary that

Critical Analysis Of The Mead-Freeman Debate
Nature versus Nurture Controversy: Critical Analysis of The Mead Freeman Debate
Research Topic Outline
In 1983, Derek Freeman challenged Margaret Mead s 1928 ethnographic work Coming of Age in
Samoa, Freeman asserted that Mead s conclusion of adolescent behavior conflicted with important
facts within the social sciences. Freeman s critique sparked an intense controversy in anthropology
regarding the concept of nature versus nurture. Freeman claimed that Boasians insisted on separating
cultural determinism (nurture) from biological determinism (nature). Thus, various academic writings
emerged in support of one concept over the latter. Even though, most modern day scholars support
both cultural determinism and biological determinism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The articles range from claims for bio anthropology to Mead protagonist who dispute the claims
suggested by Freeman. Moreover, Caton s work is a source for all publications relating to the Samoa
controversy and the issues that were raised in anthropology as a result of it. Furthermore, Caton s
work provides a guideline for understanding the various works produced by scholars because of the
controversy, and the impact these works as well as the primary works of Mead and Freeman had on
anthropology, other disciplines, and public opinion.

1983 Margaret Mead and Samoa: The Making and Unmaking of an Anthropological Myth.
Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press.
Derek Freeman in his work Margaret Mead and Samoa: The Making and Unmaking of an
Anthropological Myth, discusses Margaret Mead s fieldwork in Samoa in 1925 under the
recommendation of her then professor Franz Boaz. Freeman maintains that the conclusion reached by
Mead, that stresses associated with adolescence in the United States and other areas had cultural not
biological causes, is wrong. Freeman s work complies the evidence Freeman believes supports his
claim that the conclusion reached by Mead was mistaken. Derek Freeman states that upon starting his
field work in the islands of Western Samoa, he considered himself a cultural determinist. However,
after two years within the field, he found that much of the work written by Mead in eastern

youth and child ministries, a deli and a café. This project also called for the renovation program of

Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem...
Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented
policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of
policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police
and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and
understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different
policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented
policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like
many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on
both of these policing styles.
Policing in a Contemporary Society
Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus
their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the
public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was
developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police
function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police
did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did
not do this there would be a greater

For the first normal form stage to be reached, there are a few requirements that must be met. First, the
database attributes will be checked to make sure that all the key attributes have been included within
the entities. Second, each cell will contain only one value and not a group of values. A cell is the
intersection between the columns and rows. Third, all of the key attributes that have been defined
should be dependent on the primary key. The Riordan Manufacturing database entities contains all of
the necessary attributes for each entity and each of these attributes are dependent on the primary key
and each cell only contains one value. The Riordan Manufacturing database is in first normal form.
For the second normal form stage to be reached, there are only two requirements that will need to be
satisfied. One of these is that the database must already be in the first normal form. The other
requirement is that the database must not include any partial dependencies. All of the attributes have to
be dependent on the whole primary key. The Riordan Manufacturing database is in second normal
form since there are no partial dependencies.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Bacterial Resistance Essay
As a surgical Technologist in the Operating room, I have witnessed first hand the destruction and
suffering that bacteria can have on the body. Some infections only cause minor discomfort and
inflammation. Other bacteria such as streptococcus can cause horribly debilitating diseases such as
Necrotizing Fasciitis1. I have also seen that bacterial resistance can play a central role in the outcome
of a patient and their future life. Resistance can even determine if a person lives or dies from a
bacterial infection. This is in no way more present to me than in the life of my grandmother who,
through years of diabetic complications and treatment, is now left with less than a handful of
antibiotics that will work to treat her conditions. Dr. Keiji Fukuda of the World Health Organization
said it best, Without urgent, coordinated action by many stakeholders, the world is headed for a post
antibiotic era, in which common infections and minor injuries which have been treatable for decades
can once again kill. 2 With how many people that have infections today, the topic of antibiotics is of
utmost importance. The aim of this paper is to look at the history of antibiotics, how they work and
why they are not working now, and the possibility of better antibiotics in our future. History
Antibiotics themselves are relatively new in the history of health and medicine. In order to better
understand antibiotics we must first understand how we developed them. The germ theory of

Darwin And Darwin s Theory Of Evolution
It is often thought today that the theory of evolution started with Darwin and begun in the nineteenth
Hundreds. Nonetheless, the thought of species changing over the years, had picked up for a long time
in one shape to something else. It was denied by the maximum, due to the defender whom did not had
any slight idea dealing with a gratifying mechanism that would analyze in innovation. The utmost
significant evolutionary beliefs pervious to Darwin were of Lamarck and Geoffrey Hillarie, advanced
around the time of 1794 and 1830. Landmark implied that species expand over the help or none use of
distinct forum. In a humanistic illustration a giraffe that expanse its cervix lightly to grasps the leaves

offspring. In either way, these theories of change were established on a preceding reason that allowed

Enzyme Catalysts, Questions And Answers
A.
1. Describe two important features that make all enzymes catalysts.
In biological reactions, enzymes function as catalysts to speed up the rate of chemical reactions by
lowering the activation energy without being consumed.
4. Explain the reactions catalyzed by enzymes in the first two steps of fructose metabolism in the liver,
including each of the following:
● The substrates acted on
● The enzyme catalysts
● The products generated
Fructose enters the metabolic pathway by first being phosphorylated which means the addition of a
phosphate group. The enzyme responsible for this is fructokinase which is found in the liver. This
reaction forms fructose 1 phosphate. Fructose 1 phosphate must be broken down by a second enzyme

Pyruvate dehydrogenase catalyzes pyruvate to form acetyl CoA which is the fuel for the citric acid
cycle. A defect in this enzyme would essentially stop the citric acid cycle from working as it is the
starting point of the entire thing. NADH and FADH2 would not be produced which would also stop
the electron transport chain. The electronic transport chain is where oxidative phosphorylation occurs.
Without NADH and FADH2 being produced, enzymes in the mitochondria would not be able to use
NADH to add H to O2, the process in which phosphate is added to ADP to make ATP. Overall,
without pyruvate dehydrogenase, there is no citric acid cycle, no NADH and FADH2, no electron

Impacts of National Healthcare Reform Essay example
Healthcare in the United States has become one of the biggest, most debated issues in today s society
and people express concerns over quality, accessibility, choice, cost and dozens of other factors.
Politicians on both sides of the aisle have tried to use healthcare issues to their advantage, Democrats
talking about the right that all Americans should have to quality healthcare while Republicans hammer
on the tremendous cost and its impact on the government s deficit and on business. With the passage
of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) on March 23, 2010, the debate has

Clearly, health care in the United States has become far too expensive, we spend more on health care
than any other country in the world. Recent data indicates that we spend over two trillion dollars
annually on health care, representing over seventeen percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and
these numbers are growing fast. It is estimated that by the year 2025 health care spending will be
twenty five percent of the US GDP. This spending level is over two and a half times more per capita
than the average of the thirty four countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and
Development, which includes most of the developed countries of the world. Yet, despite these high
levels of spending, of the countries in the OECD only the United States, Turkey, and Mexico do not
have universal healthcare coverage for their citizens. The high cost of health care in the United States
clearly has a negative impact on the competitiveness of US businesses. Health insurance premiums in
the US have gone up 114% over the last decade, becoming one of the largest expenses for most
companies. General Motors spends over five billion dollars annually on health care for their
employees and retirees. This represents almost two thousand dollars for every car they sell. This is a
huge competitive disadvantage for GM because companies like Toyota, Honda and Volvo pay far less

Literary Analysis Of Desiree s Baby
Single Element Desiree s Baby Kate Chopin s Desiree s Baby is the story of an abandoned child by
the name of Desiree; adopted and brought up by Madame Valmont in the countryside of Louisiana.
She later grows up, conceives a child, and marries her childhood sweetheart Armand, with the
intention of giving her the perfect family she failed to receive. The two are profoundly in love, and
continue to flourish in happiness until one day something changes. With suspicion and curiosity
towards the race of the baby and Desiree, Armand suddenly becomes distant from the two; portraying
an unpleasant attitude towards her and his slaves. Unwanted, Desiree disappears with the child, and is
never seen again. One day while burning old memories of his former spouse, Armand will be
conflicted with a shocking discovery that leaves the reader in awe. This amazing story reveals how the
power of judgement, and uncertainty can ironically come back to haunt you in the end. There are
many examples of language given from the author that helps the reader achieve a certain
understanding on the specific parts in the story. The narrator reads from the third person omniscient
point of view, and greatly describes the events leading up to the tragedy of what once was filled with
pure joy. With the ability to unfold the thoughts of the omniscient view, the reader is able to analyze
true emotions from the central and supporting characters that later can be identified as a specific type
of language. For

President Abraham Lincoln, An Innovator And The Only...
Encourage Innovation President Abraham Lincoln once advised George McClellan, if we never try,
we shall never succeed (Phillips, 1992). Lincoln was an innovator and the only American president to
hold a patent. He constantly pushed his generals during the Civil War to move the war effort forward
and he considered mistakes to be learning events, or steps in the right direction (Phillips, 1992). In
addition to encouraging his generals, Lincoln personally sought out new weapons such as repeating
rifles and other equipment. Lincoln s desire for an advancing and innovative army was critical to the
survival of the union. In my professional career, I find myself frequently asking my subordinates can
we do better? Typically, when I ask that question, I have already answered it my own head, yes.
However, at times, I get asked that same question by my boss, and become annoyed. I quickly come to
the realization that the answer to his question is also a yes, and I somehow missed it. Like Lincoln, I
am reminded that the best leaders never stop learning and if we never try, we will never succeed.
Learning is a critical part of innovation. I am blessed to work for a supervisor who has many great
leadership characteristics. I consider Chief Michael Haworth a mentor who has instilled many of the
same characteristics in me over the years. Assistant Chief Michael Haworth has secured the support
and funding to allow our agency to innovate technologically over the

  • 2. My Last Duchess Comparison Both London and My Last Duchess explore the ideas of power through social structures, hierarchy and synecdoche. In London Blake presents the theme of power through a reportage. The narrator wanders through a chartered street and by the chartered Thames . This shows that in the narrator s eyes the streets are owned and even an aspect of nature such as the River Thames is in ownership of someone. These owners that Blake refers to is the state who are believed to have acquired so much power that they can own natural landmarks. Due to this power, the people in London wear metaphorical manacles that are mind forged which shows they have trapped themselves due to the pain and suffering the higher class has caused them. Also, the repetition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator (Duke) who is of an upper class is having a conversation with an envoy when he mentions Will t please you sit and look at her? . This shows the Duke s commanding nature as he almost forces the envoy to look at his painting although he uses a question it is rhetorical (envoys do not reply) and it shows how the Duke has power. Also, the Duke s power is emphasized as he chooses who can see the painting since none puts by the curtain I have drawn . This gives him a sense of importance. Browning also writes she ranked my gift...with anybody s gift . This shows that the Duke believes that names and status hold importance, power even and he expects the name of Duchess will be enough for her but she treats everyone the same, this angers him. Throughout the poem the Duke says that he does not have skill in speech which from the poem we can see is false. When discussing his lack of skill he says which I have not , This shows the power in words and ultimately how he couldn t stop her with his words because he would have to stoop he used a different way to fix his problem. Also, he says I choose never to stoop . The I choose shows hierarchy as he has the choice. The use of the verb stoop is interesting as it means to directly to bend one s head, associating with the lower class or submitting yourself. This also shows the Duke s commanding nature as he refuses to stoop he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ENG 10 T 4R Review of Related Literature In today s economy, forex rate, the price of one currency in terms of another, has considerably contributed to the economic status of many countries all over the world. It is considered as one of the factors that identifies and emphasizes the welfare of a country; specifically, the welfare of its residents. With forex rate, a country can be provided with knowledge that may help them in different situations of interests. (Wright, n.d.) According to Chand s article, forex rate has some major types. These are the following: 1. Fixed Exchange Rate System This system, also known as Pegged exchange rate system, manages the steadiness of the exchange rate by fixing the exchange rate to a value of another currency or to another valuable measure such as gold which is lead by the government. However, even though it is a fixed exchange rate system, a small variation may still take place. 2. • 5. The Portrayal Of Women In Western Genre In Western genre, women are repeatedly portrayed as either the helpless damsel in distress or the wild saloon girl. Most Western movies have elements of a gunfight, rivalry, redemption, and/or romance written into the script. A large percentage of the stereotypes of the American West comes from these exaggerated characters and storylines. Very rarely do western films present a strong female lead. When they do, there is frequently a subplot of romance written into it. Few Western genre and cinema portray the true nature of what women in the West were like. • 6. An Observational Study Design That Could Be Appropriately... An observational study design that could be appropriately used by an APN to study the above research question is a cross sectional study design. Important questions to make this study applicable, is it appropriate; is the characteristics between prevalent and incident cases a factor; have other explanations been ruled out? According to Curley Vitale (2012), the cross sectional study determines the exposure and outcomes at the same time. It provides a snap shot at one point in time. The information obtained was about the relationship of Tuberculosis and the White Ethnic group of males during a single point in time, 1993 and 2011. Cross sectional studies are applicable for screening the hypothesis due to the fact they require a small time frame and minimal resources to manag e. Cross sectional study design has been utilized to comprehend the prevalence of diseases, treatments, services and outcomes. Cross sectional study strengths contain surveys that are inexpensive and takes a shorter time to complete, and can provide descriptive data about the population of people involved in the study. The study can be useful for assessing risk factor prevalence rate, a means to compare groups, has the ability to study fatal diseases within a smaller population, and can study multiple exposures (Curley Vitale, 2012). Cross sectional weaknesses are unable to measure or determine exposures exactly because the outcome and exposure is done simultaneously. There can be bias of variable ... • 9. Analysis Of War And Peace By Leo Tolstoy In this paper, I will discuss the concept of simplicity in War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. That simplicity is narratively shown by character Platon Karataev (Platon for short), his dog, the complexity of Pierre and Tolstoy s philosophy of life. Platon and Pierre are inmates to one another. Platon shows up in Chapter 3 of Book 12, 13 and 14. Even though a number of words Tolstoy writes about Platon is not significant compared to our personas such as Pierre, Natasha or Prince Andrew, it s still enough for us, the reader, to perceive the simplicity of this character. Platon is a simple person, physically and spiritually. On page 857, line And there was so much kindliness and simplicity in his singsong voice that Pierre tried to reply , Pierre feels tears rising to his eyes when Platon asks if Pierre has seen a lot of trouble. Right after acknowledging that, Platon instantly continued in the same pleasant tones to encourage Pierre (857). He explains there are good men and there are bad men, then he offers Pierre some baked potatoes. Pierre feels warm and welcomed. Platon treats Pierre like a friend and Platon himself is a child, an innocent and simple one, who s waiting for so long to get a company of his visited home. • 11. Carol Ann Duffy Allusions Katelyn Nowocin Dr. Plamondon ENGL 3487 7 November 2017 Sympathy verses Judgment in Carol Ann Duffy s poem Salome The poem Salome by Carol Ann Duffy is written from the perspective of Salome, a promiscuous woman who is retelling her drunken night. Although it is unclear whom Salome is speaking to, she tells her story using informal, colloquial language, as if conversing to a group of friends. Duffy uses Biblical allusions, which suggest that the speaker can be considered a reflection of the Biblical character Salome, who appears in the New Testament and is infamous for demanding the head of John the Baptist. Although Duffy seems to be retelling the traditional story of Salome, she depicts Salome as a modern figure. The following analysis will explore the Biblical allusions in Duffy s poem, which help to determine what the poem is about, and moreover will explore how Duffy uses the dramatic monologue to provoke the reader to have sympathy for Salome. I thus contend that Duffy takes the reader into the mind of Salome, a character that has traditionally been portrayed as an evil, amoral woman, in order for the reader to view her from a perspective of sympathy rather than judgment. As stated, rather than depicting Salome as a completely wicked and cynical character, Duffy provides indications that the reader is meant to sympathize with her. This is hinted at in the language that Duffy uses and the different tones in each stanza, proposing that Salome s thoughts are changing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based upon the analysis of the bones and the data gathered, the conclusion is that the bones belonged an Asian female over 30 years of age that was between the height of 4 8 and 5 3 . Summary of Findings: sex: Through examination of the bones, the individual is identified as a female. The main bones used to determine sex are the pelvis and the skull. The humerus bone had the most important information to investigate the approximate height of the individual based on the bone s maximum length. It was found that the maximum length of the humerus was 270 mm, or 27.0 cm. After finding the maximum length of the humerus, the number was plugged into the regression formula for the correct sex and ethnicity (in this case it was female and Asian) to provide with the maximum and minimum heights. Normally, the femur is predominantly used to find the height of an individual but there was no available regression formula for a female of the Asian ethnicity. • 13. Analysis Of Tomorrow When The War Began Tomorrow, When the War Began , written by John Marsden, is the first of seven books from the Tomorrow series. Through the first person perspective of the character Ellie Linton, Marsden told the story of a group of teenager who found themselves in the war zone after coming back from a bushwalking trip to Hell . They later came to the realisation that an unknown force had invaded their country. In order to survive, the group had to stick with each other and fight to win back their town. The characters changed as the story progressed, they become more independent, they think more strategically and built a stronger bond between each other. Marsden used various text features like the narrative point of view, symbolism and contrast to draw sympathy from the audience. Marsden told the story through the narrative view of Ellie Linton. She was assigned the role of writing down the events occurred to leave a record of their experience of the invasion. Since the text was written from what Ellie sees, hears and thinks, she included pronouns like I, you, we, us to include the readers to the text. It makes the readers feel like they are a part of the group and they are participating in the teens operations. She also included various emotions like bravery, love and fear within her writing. • 14. Police Officers And Officers Police And Corrections Officers If My Mind Could Forget the Things My Eyes Have Seen Abuse by police officers and officers in penal institutions is a big subject in the media now. Turn to a news station and the chances of seeing at least on case are pretty high. The most unreported incidents, however, is actually assault on police officers and corrections officers. The media does not report these issues nearly as much as it tries to portray officer assault on criminals. Why is it that the media covers up the big issue of officer assault and reports the innocent criminals being assaulted? When the media is trying to scare someone they don t say criminals are bad, instead, make it seem like the selfless officers risking their lives are the bad guys and use it as a scare tactic to create distrust and panic in the public. Abuse falls under six definitions when applied to law enforcement. Physical abuse: The blatant beating, striking, or physical mistreatment of an inmate. This is a very vague area because any physical contact with an inmate can be reported as abuse. Psychological abuse: The mental degradation of an inmate through embarrassment, unnecessary command or criticism. Unlawful interrogation, which is literally unheard of anymore, means the use of starvation, sleep deprivation, dehydration, etc. Excessive force: When compliance must be obtained physically and the amount of force used far exceeds the need. • 16. Similarities And Differences Between Hueey Long Vs Benito... In the 1932, the March publishing of Vanity Fair included a piece of art by Miguel Covarrubias. The original piece, titled Impossible Interview No. 4, Huey Long vs. Benito Mussolini, was made the same year using gouache on paper. The majority of the space is used to depict two figures, and by the title, one can determine the figure on the right is Benito Mussolini, and the figure on the left is the Louisiana governor, Huey Long. The artwork could be described as a semi realistic cartoon of these two people. At first glance these figures seem quite different from the clothing they are wearing and their facial expressions, but if one looks closer at their poses and surroundings, they are rather similar. Miguel Covarrubias uses these similarities and differences in the appearance of the two figures, and their surroundings to show how the people they portray both had power through different means. There are two ways the viewer can infer that these figures have power and authority. The first is the scene around them. Behind Mussolini, on the right, is a red velvet curtain, that has a golden tie back around waist level. This tie back, golden fringes on the bottom of the curtain, and the specific color of the curtain all are usually found in homes of powerful or rich patrons, or in buildings of important government figures. On the left side of the paintings, there is a stone railing with hills in the distance. This gives an appearance that the figures are standing near a balcony ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canada as their land and way of life is special to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and separation. Quebec is also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4 geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada. Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the first permanent French settlement in 1608. • 23. Gender Impact On Class And Gender Effect of Class and Gender Do class and gender affect how individuals act or behave? Society has evolved throughout the years and with that evolution, the people have separated themselves by factors such as class and gender. This separation started many centuries ago and made a large appearance in the Great Depression and Civil Rights Movement. Along with this division of people, actions and behaviors seem to have been paired with certain classifications of people. In prior eras, women were seen as fragile and not earners due to needing to stay at home and take care of children. On the contrary, men were seen as masculine and earned a decent amount of money from working all day long. Even though genders evolved into how they are now with women working alongside men, the separation is still visible. Women are still fighting to get paid the same amount as men, resulting in a certain behavior based on the gender. This behavior is one where women try to get equal pay through comparable worth instead of just staying quiet like women used to. The factors of class and gender cause a difference in an individual s actions and behavior in the ways of not socializing with certain types of people, creating stereotypes, and behaving in a way to fit the norms of the specific class or gender. There are many different articles written that can help describe how socialization, generalized ideas, and standards cause individuals in different genders and classes to act in a certain way. A few of the most important are Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar by Gillam and Wooden, Seeing and Making Culture: Representing the Poor by hooks, and Girls Bodies, Girls Selves: Body Image, Identity, and Sexuality by Lipkin. All of these articles have aspects that point towards the fact that different reason cause individuals to perform their everyday activities in a certain way. Gillam and Wooden explain in their article that new films produced by Disney and Pixar have changed the idea of masculinity from one of the past to one that accepts the more traditional femininity. Hooks article portrays how she personally was told she was unable to go to college because of her poverty level and when she did go to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the benefits of extensive reading to take effect, a book a week is an appropriate goal. This is a realistic target as books written for beginning language learners are very short. 9 5 Reading speed is usually faster rather than slower: Because of the fact that the material is easy understandable for students, their reading is fluent. Learners are encouraged to ignore or guess the meaning of a few unknown items they may encounter from the context. 9 6 The purpose of reading is usually related to pleasure, information and general understanding: Extensive reading encourages reading for pleasure and information. • 25. The Importance Of Gender Equality In India And India Equality; the state of being equal, especially in terms of status, rights, and opportunities. This seems like a given when one reflects upon the standards and statuses both men and women have achieved, but gender equality is still a huge issue, even from birth. Millions of children have been deemed missing due to sex selective abortion, and these age old practices have huge consequences for society. From economy to religion, sons are preferred in a variety of countries, such as India and America. There are many similarities and differences regarding gender preference in India and America, especially concerning why one sex is preferred over the other, the steps each country has taken to prevent gender preference, and the impact gender preference has on society. India s cultural preference for sons has been going on for thousands of years, and over 12 million girls have been lost over the span of 30 years. In India, boys are considered the breadwinners of the family, and the ones that take over the businesses and provide financial care. Sons are the ones that deal with family debt and continue the ancestry of the family. Girls are regarded as burdens that drain the family with dowries and marriage, and they are to be protected and defended . However, the deep historical practices and preferences for sons mean millions of girls in India live a life of neglect. The sex ratios at birth in India are severely distorted, at approximately 132 boys for every 100 girls. Females ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Will this research be confidential, will you use deception, and will the research you are doing harm any of the participants, are all extremely important factors to consider. These factors will be identified and considered while using the following hypothesis: As children increase their technology usage, interpersonal communication skills decrease. Confidentiality Anonymity The first ethical consideration that must be established is whether or not the study will offer confidentiality to the participating parties. In the instance of this communication research study, when it comes to trying to prove or disprove the hypothesis, there will be no reason to not offer complete confidentiality and anonymity. In this study, we are analyzing children and the guarantee of confidentiality and anonymity would offer comfort so the participants can act naturally without fear of judgment (Jamison, n.d.). If I were a participant in this research study, I would prefer that all of the data collected remain confidential. I personally do not feel that the research study would need to be anonymous. In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on both of these policing styles. Policing in a Contemporary Society Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did not do this there would be a greater ... Symptoms And Treatment Of Bacterial Resistance Essay As a surgical Technologist in the Operating room, I have witnessed first hand the destruction and suffering that bacteria can have on the body. Some infections only cause minor discomfort and inflammation. Other bacteria such as streptococcus can cause horribly debilitating diseases such as Necrotizing Fasciitis1. I have also seen that bacterial resistance can play a central role in the outcome of a patient and their future life.
