A Worker Undertaking Call Centre Training
it might be said: I SUMMARY Paul, a worker undertaking call centre training with Telecall at the
company s 10 storey building was injured on the 1st of September 2015 in an attempted murder
accident and you have sought my advice on this matter. I advise that there is a serious risk that the
company will be held liable on account of owing a duty of care to Paul and other employees. II
BACKGROUND, FACTS AND EVIDENCE A personnel hire company engaged Paul for call centre
training with host employer TeleCall. David, another worker who was undertaking the same training
course, absented himself from the training room and was found wandering around the rooftop balcony
by Suzie. Suzie is an employee of TeleCall and she noted that David ... Show more content on

Furthermore, in novel situations they will utilize the salient features approach (which includes the
foreseeability of harm to persons and proximity) to make a determination on the matter. Other key
salient features that need to be assessed are: vulnerability of the plaintiff to harm, the defendant s
control over the risk of harm, the indeterminacy of liability and the need for coherence. B Nature of
the Relationship Between the Parties Paul was originally engaged by a personnel hire company to
undertake training provided by TeleCall for work in the TeleCall call centre. This means that Paul is
not an employee of TeleCall and as such his relationship with the firm does not fall within an
established category of duty. Therefore, a duty of care can only be established on the basis of the
salient features approach identified in Sullivan v Moody. C Reasonable Foreseeability A duty of care
cannot be established solely on the basis of reasonable foreseeability, but it is an important
consideration. At the duty stage, the test of reasonable foreseeability does not to ask if the injury itself
is foreseeable. Rather, the focus at this stage is whether careless conduct of any kind by the defendant,
might result in the plaintiff or class of

First-Person Narration In Edgar Allen Poe s The Black Cat
There are different literary elements working together in order to help readers to understand the text.
Each element has its own functions, and it will affect the text specifically. In this essay, I will focus on
the element of narration, narrative voice, and point of view for my critical analysis. Edgar Allen Poe,
Guy de Maupassant, and Dashiell Hammett are the authors that I will discuss. Different authors used
different types of narration in their stories. However, no matter which types of narration, the narrative
techniques among authors increased the attractiveness of their stories. Edgar Allen Poe s narration
skills helped readers to understand the stories thoroughly. Poe used to apply first person narration in
his stories. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story mainly about the narrator killed someone, and finally caught by police because of the
heartbeat sound coming from a dead person. Again, the first person narration helped readers to
understand the more about the narrator. Readers could feel the horrors when the narrator was proud of
his murder. Poe writes, If still you think me mad, you will think so no longer when I described the
wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body (Poe 76). The narrator thought he did a good
job on handling the dead body. From the words from the narrator directly, readers could know how
crazy this person was, and feel horrors from what he did. Therefore, the story would become more
interesting to readers because those horrible feelings were the things that readers looking for. The first
person narration not only helped readers to know more about the characters, but also made the ending
of the story more interesting. After the narrator killed an old man, the police went to his house to
investigate the case. At first, the officers could not find anything. However, the situation got changed
suddenly. Poe says, ... It was a low, dull, quick sound much such a sound as a watch makes when
enveloped in cotton... but the noise steadily increased (Poe 77). The narrator heard the sound of the
heartbeat, and then he went to find out the heart that he put under the floorboards. Therefore,

The Decolonization Of Mars
A lot can be said about Mars. It was named after the Roman God of War, Mars, for its red color. One
of the biggest topics of conversation regarding Mars is whether or not us humans should be looking to
colonize the Red Planet. I won t be getting into the debate of privatized or public space programs
because in the end they are both working towards a common goal of getting to Mars. The points I will
layout through this essay will be, is Mars habitable, how much money it will cost to get to Mars, some
thoughts from Stephen Petranek and is it an actual solution.
When we get to the topic of habitability on Mars, we have to focus on the main points. Is the
atmosphere able to sustain life? Are we able to grow food to feed animals and ourselves? ... Show

Food, shelter, water, and clothing. This is for Earth, when we get to Mars, we would need oxygen as
well. What has been stated earlier in the essay was having supplies brought to Mars earlier than our
intended arrival, and some of the stuff there could be dry food. In his Ted talk, he states that about
80% of the food we would eat on Mars would be dry foods, and the other would be grown gradually
over time. Petranek says in his Ted talk that about 15 20% would be grown from hydroponics. What
this means is that plants would grow without soil, because Martian soil is toxic. It is considered to be
toxic because NASA s Curiosity rover found perchlorates in the Martian ground. We wouldn t be able
to grow food easily until there is running water on the surface, and we found an easier way to make
the dirt able to be used for farming practices. I personally wouldn t enjoy having to eat dried foods for
a long time while living on Mars, but some other people might. I would need the greens and
vegetables to thrive for an extended amount of

Why Is America s Education System Failing
Why is America s Education Failing?
The United States is often referred to as the best country in the world in many areas. It may be, but far
from it in education. Out of a total of thirty four countries of the Organization for Economic Co
operation and Development, it ranks just fourteenth in reading, seventeenth in science and twenty fifth
in math (Walker). Despite America s status as a country, America s education is failing because of the
large emphasis on standardized education, and the flaws of the students, parents, and teachers. How to
fix the education system remains to be a problem. Impoverished children are partially at fault for the
failing education system in America. Poor children are ranked well below the national ... Show more

Professor Friedman says, If you leave a low value added teacher in your school for 10 years, rather
than replacing him with an average teacher, you are hypothetically talking about $2.5 million in lost
income. Schools need good teachers, but firing unqualified teachers has proved to be a difficult task.
Too many teachers lack the ability to educate their students, and prepare them for the future, and too
few of these ineffective teachers are losing their jobs. Firing an incompetent teacher requires getting
the union, the school board, the principal, and the judicial system involved, followed by thousands of
dollars in legal fees. It is seldom that a teacher is ever fired. One California school spent eight
thousand dollars to fire one teacher protected by tenure (Stephey). The trouble that schools must go
through to fire an inept teacher deters schools from firing the teacher. The teacher will keep his job,
and continue to poorly educate students and prepare them for the future.
In 2002, the No Child Left Behind act was passed, a government program that required states to

I remember Eddie s Sweet shop when I was just a boy. Growing up in Queens, I use to beg my parents
to drive me over to Eddie s sweet shop where I would watch the employees make the homemade ice
cream from behind the counter and pour a giant helping of ice cream onto a metal dish. Now, years
later, I have aged but Eddie s Sweet Shop has remained the same. It s location still hasn t changed on
Metropolitan Avenue in Queens, NY near the movie theater. The exact address of Eddie s sweet shop
is 10529 Metropolitan Avenue in Flushing, NY in the borough of Queens. Eddie s Sweet Shop is about
as Old Fashioned as you can get. How many restaurants have you heard of that can say they still make
homemade ice cream? Eddie s Sweet shop is a true classic and the customers who go to Eddie s sweet
shop always come back for its great taste. Even more memorable than the homemade ice cream and
enormous scoops of ice cream that they give you is the hot fudge they pour onto your ice cream. The
hot fudge is also homemade, as are all of the ingredients used at Eddie s sweet shop. The ambiance is
very unique and well represented of a little kids store with teddy bears and kids toys scattered by the
window sills. There is a long wooden counter top where the employees serve customers ice cream.
Most customers enjoy sitting at the counter stools and there are also about half a dozen booths in the

Title Ix And Female Athletes Essay
Title IX is a federal law passed in 1972 guaranteeing girls and women access to equal sports
opportunites as boys and men. Title IX in athletics is a very controversial issue that has opened up the
world of athletics for millions of women all across the United States. Although it is a win for women
athletes, it has created an issue for male athletic programs sufforing from the effects of Title IX. This
literary review shows the phenomenon of Title IX and how it affects participation in female sports. It
shows the contriversy of Title IX opening doors for female athletes and closing doors for male
athletes. It also explores the discrimination still in affect towards women in all sports. It also explores
the issues Title IX rasies in both male and female sports.
For years sexual discrimination has plagued women in both the public and private spheres, and has not
allowed sufficient growth for women to reach the same equal level as men. The fight for equality
amongst the sexes has been an ongoing battle for decades, and there are people who say sufficient
progress has been made for women and that no other implementations must be made or that digression
should take place, while there are many activists who continue to push for more of a change. Title IX
was created and set into place in order to eliminate sexual discrimination in all areas of education and
programs, especially in the area of athletics. Supporters of Title IX continue to struggle to make

Accounting At The University Of Florida
1. I am currently studying Accounting at the University of Florida with the possibility of pursuing an
education in tax law while in graduate school. Accounting appealed to me as a good major because I
am interested in how to develop or maintain a successful business. I choose to pursue an Accounting
over a General Business degree because learning the value of how to handle and manage finances is
critical to understanding how a business operates. An Accounting degree also opens up many doors in
the business world, which can help me achieve my goal of becoming a CFO or CEO.

Since Accounting is so hands on I believe experience shadowing or working with other accountants
would help me, because I would get to see how the accounting system works when everything isn t in
proper order or some financials are missing. I consider that experience invaluable because it teaches
me what I can not learn in a classroom and helps expand my knowledge in that field
1. One skill that I learned while watching the Lynda.com videos was creating functions in tables to
help calculate averages, sums, products, etc. Learning how to use mathematic functions through
Microsoft Word can not only be helpful but in many cases essential for an accountant to learn. An
example of when this skill would be helpful is when I would need to prepare financial data into a word
document for a financial report. If I mastered this skill I would be able to input financial data into
tables and graphs much faster, which would allow me to spend more time on research and the quality
of my work. This tool is also useful because it shows that unlike many accountants in the industry I
can prove to my company that I am familiar with technology and that I am efficient. Proving that I am
an efficient accountant can be very valuable because many accounting companies especially the Big
Four look for graduates that have a strong accounting background but that are also technologically
adapt. Therefore, it would be in my best interest to expand my

The Catholic Church Essay
The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church in the 20th Century underwent tremendous change, most significantly as a result
of the Second Vatican Council. This Council created an atmosphere of reform within the leading
theologians and the hierarchy of the Church. Consequently, when Pope Paul VI released his encyclical
Humanae Vitae, to many of the reformers it seemed to contradict the sentiment of the Council.
At the same time, though, there was a movement afoot to radically change the power structure of the
Church. Led by the same liberal theologians who took offense to the pro life policies laid out in
Humanae Vitae, the aim was to transition the Church from an authoritarian power structure to a more
democratic model. Humanae ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

kneeling before a table with his face in his hands. He was crying. Many people were in front of the

17 18)
This image is very symbolic of the attempt to overthrow the teaching authority of the Pope taking
place in the Catholic Church following the historic release of Humanae Vitae, an important papal
encyclical following the religious revolution known as Vatican II. Unremarkable for its content, which
simply reaffirmed the current Church views on contraceptive use, the response to Humanae Vitae has
been shocking. The controversy over Humanae Vitae revealed a schism between liberal and
conservative elements in the Church. This rift included the Church s view of birth control, but on a
deeper level was about the right of the Pope to dictate the official Church teaching without following
the dictates of the laity, bishops, cardinals, or theologians. Leading the liberal, revolutionary forces
were the Church s leading theologians, and guiding the conservative, counter revolutionary side was
the Pope, primarily under Pope Paul VI.
To understand the response of theologians, it is important to look at the conditions surrounding the
encyclical s release. In 1959 Pope John XXIII announced that the

Research on visualization and linguistic technology were both conducted at Xerox s PARC for a

of joining Inxight, opened a large gap in Inxight s technical expertise front. PARC s visualization

The Pros And Cons Of Living Off-Campus
Living off campus provides challenging opportunities for personal growth (Oberlin College, 2017).
Students who live in far areas prefer to have a rental house in order to have an easy access to their

Mark Ryden
Mark Ryden was born in Medford Oregon. He received a BFA in 1987 from Art Center College of

from flea markets and op shops; endless amounts of toys, religious statues, dolls, antiques and many

history which again reflects a person s comfort with the known and familiar, and turns it into
something confronting by pulling it from its original context.
Common presence of Religious icons brings a whole new meaning to each painting as the watchful
eyes of a Roman classicist image of Jesus observe the image and the audience, indicating a judgment
on moral conduct or a reflection on people s own actions. Ryden s works are often a social
commentary (rather than attack or opinion) presented through the curious children s world, which is
both dreamlike and nightmarish.
His works are a challenge to modern and ‘mature thinking; when humanity used to connect through
myths and legends, now they believe through logic and fact. Unlike much of today s contemporary art,
Ryden s work is easily accessible for the audience by the familiar symbols of toys and religious icons,
contextualized into a surrealist and dreamlike world. The difference, however, is that Ryden

Some reasons to expand remote work includes; saving time, saving money, and reducing resources
usage. Employees will have a better work/life balance, have improved productivity, and have the
flexibility to schedule work around personal needs. These employee improvements will lead to less

Retelling the Accepted Public Narrative The financial crisis of 2008 was an enormous catastrophe and
therefore a perfect story to be adapted to film. Retelling the story of the collapse of Wall Street had a
further result than merely being lucrative though. Movies like Inside Job (2010), Too Big to Fail
(2011) and The Big Short (2015) also inform people about the causes and dealings of the financial
collapse. Most importantly however, they evoke an emotional response by telling the audience where
to lay the blame. However, the movies not only helped shape the public narrative, they are also
reflections of the people s attitudes towards Wall Street. While the movie s narrative stands in contrast
to the narratives that advertising, journalism and public relations told, it is still the more commonly
accepted one. This commonly accepted narrative is reflected in so many movies since the financial
crisis that Michael Pepe argues that it has formed a genre of its own, stylized with very distinct
characters and a clear message: And so when popular films ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Due to the mistrust in Public Relations and Advertising and since there is a higher number of people
who watch the same movie than reading the newspaper articles, the public narrative is very much
influenced by the movie s version of the financial crisis. That these other media fields are in the
shadows of the movies is problematic, since movies tend to simplify complex issues in order to
correspond to the public opinion. Therefore, it is very important that the audience makes an effort to
inform themselves independently and outside of the public narrative, in order to make decisions based
on fact, rather than on a biased version of events. Only then can the best actions be made to prevent
further such catastrophes from occurring in the

Helen Keller s Impact On The Blind And Blind People
Helen Keller, a woman that not only changed the United States but the world in many ways. She was
not only blind, but a deaf woman that did multiple things to help other people that had her disabilities
by fighting for them in the ways they couldn t. Keller had a huge impact on the blind and deaf
community, which she helped tremendously while getting more assistance to the blind. Helen Keller, a
deaf and blind woman that helped and inspired many other disabled people by fighting through her
own disabilities.
At nineteen months, Helen suffered an illness that left her unable to see, hear, or eventually speak.
(Williams) Keller got a illness called scarlet fever or meningitis, something that can not be cured,
which made an impact on her life by challenging her with no vision or hearing. (Williams) Keller
grew up young having her disabilities such as being blind and deaf, which later influenced her wanting
to help people with the same disabilities. She not only had to create signs growing up so that her
family could communicate with her, but she had to continue to do so until her teacher came along.
Keller grew up with her teacher Anne Sullivan, who helped her learn to communicate even with the
disabilities she had growing up. Helen was very independent in many ways. Such as not being able to
see or hear but still getting things down in her mind on what is going on around her or who is around
her by certain feelings or vibrations. (Williams) Therefore with Keller s

Value Relevance
Start:
Some value relevance research studies are motivated by standard setting and seek to draw some
standard setting inferences from these studies. Their studies are based on theories of accounting,
standard setting and valuation.
Question: Are these theories that underlie value relevance studies descriptive of standards setting and
valuation? If they are not, then the associations between accounting numbers and equity valuations are
just mere associations and have limited standard setting inferences.
The authors then seek to introduce value relevance studies

But these guys quote FASB statements to motivate their tests but end up their research is inconsistent
with those statements. It s because of 3 assumptions made by value relevance.
1) Users and uses of financial reporting Assumption: equity investors are main users of FR and
therefore valuation of equity is the dominant use of FR.
REALITY (smacks em in the face): FASB suggests that they give considerable weight to non equity
investment users. Valuation is therefore not the dominant function of financial statements. There is a
more stakeholder oriented way of looking at things rather than just equity investors.
FASB: General purpose statements that provide inputs to a range of different decisions that have
generally similar but not identical information demands such as creditors (liquidity assessment) and
management stewardship.
Implications on VR studies: too narrow. Perhaps relevance of number to say lenders might be different
from that of equity investors e.g. value of future growth options relevant to equity investors, lenders
don t care. They just want their money back. Therefore, should not use equity values only.
2) Stock prices adequately represent equity investor s use of information in valuing equity securities.
VR literature: stock price is used to assess investors use of FR information because those prices
represent the aggregation of individual investors valuations of the firm and info the valuation is based.

Why Did White Southerners Support Slavery
In 1860 there was about four million African Americans living in the south and out of those four
million there was only 260,000 of freed African Americans. Slaves lived a hard and cruel life day in
and day out. Living a life where white southerners were their masters and controlled every aspect of
their lives, from what they had to do through out the day, if they can marry, they could not have
authority over their children, if they would be able to have an intact family and before they taught
about doing anything they had to think abut the consequences that would come with it and these are
just a few examples of the many horrible things they had to go through, put in simple words slaves
where not free. There were many reasons why white southerners supported slavery, why they thought

First and foremost, Yeoman farmers and white poor southerners where not part of the Plantation
Aristocracy . Slavery was a way to manage and control the labor, yeoman farmer families were about
half of the southern white population and they did not own slaves, they did their own farming which
about eighty percent of them owned their own land. Most of the farmers would raise hogs, corn, some
cotton and tobacco and sell it to earn cash to be able to buy coffee, salt and sugar. Even though these
farmers did not have money, they were able to gain the respect of planters by their dignity and pride
and they even wished to join the gentry one day and looked up to the planters. According to the book

The Importance Of Earnest By Oscar Wilde
First and foremost, The Importance of Earnest is a comedy of manners as Oscar Wilde s main premise
is to satirise the behaviours of upper class Victorian society, as he knew it. In order to achieve this he
created witty dialogue, ridiculed the institution of marriage and appealed, more, to the audience s
intelligence than their emotions. However, he also creates comedy by installing farcical features such
as mistaken identity, physical humour and an absurd plot.
Through the use of repartee (one of the main features of a Comedy of Manners), between Jack and
Algernon in Act 1, Wilde displays the upper class as hypocritical. When Jack says, My dear Algy, you
talk exactly as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isn t a dentist. It
produces a false impression. He tries to claim that Algernon is being deceitful but instead, highlights
his own hypocrisy, as previously he had been trying to deceive him about Cecily. By using three
consecutive short sentences, a slow and steady pace is created; contrary to the effect it usually has or
is used for. This casual pace is hilarious because it creates an agreeable tone, when in fact, what he is
saying is not of reason. From this, the audience can tell that Jack is arguing for the sake of arguing,
since his words are not of actual substance, which makes it even funnier seeing that he is constructing
an irrelevant link that does not even prove his point. It highlights how trivial Jack is; perhaps

Oresteia is a script whose story goes on by recalling Orestes lost memories. The main idea which is
prevalent throughout this story is about finding the truth hidden in the acts of revenge, lies, and fates
which are intricately intertwined. However, as the truth does not always give us hope and pleasant, in
this story, the characters are suffered by the truth and the way to find it.
Orestes father, Agamemnon, is suffered for the truth of the prophecy, the child is the price: if he kills

Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By...
Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers of A
Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor set out,
quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the importance of the
grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained how violence and grace
come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of Grace, the moment when
you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment when the Grandmother
realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared for (by me anyway) by the
intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings of the
modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at
least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is often read and how
she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology of grace or by the lack of
religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has tended to line up behind O Connor
s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling
and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O
Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her
church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony
rather than on the author s comments, we shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work
is at least debatable And Frederick Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the
tale and not the teller. Of A Good Man Is Hard to Find, Asals claims: BLOCK QUOTE One can easily

in dialogues is because during this time, white people recieved a better education than black people,
and as a result of that, their articulation is better. It is also interesting the way he wrote his
conversations with his students. He talked to them as if they were his friends and teased them just to
get a reaction out of them. He also talked to them and treated them as equals, not as African American
subordinates. The description of Conroys conversations is also written really well. It is easy to

not a funny book, but you will find yourself in belly heaving laughter... this is not an angry book, but
you will shiver with antagonism at man s inhumanity to man... (Charleston). This is definitely a book
that anyone who appreciates and cares about the present day would enjoy. Conroy is able to take a
story about his experience teaching students into a story that will anger people and make them feel
emotions they would not have felt otherwise. Conroy shows the reader how conflicts which caused the
Civil War can be in effect 100 years later. The Civil War was fought over African Americans and their
rights as a citizen, and even though the war was won in favor of them, they were still treated as such
and not given the education they deserved. Reading this book teaches the reader about this, and causes
heartbreak to know that these people were treated like that. This book is not recommended for young
children because of profanity and the content would be too difficult, but this novel is definitely

Ageism In The Workplace
Imagine being an older aged person going into an interview. You go through the entire interview and

Andrew Mayfair points out in his article, The Consequences of Age Discrimination at Work , how
businesses believe that getting rid of older employees who can t do as much as younger employees is

The budget requested in this competitive renewal application is about 20% more than the current

Analysis Of Sweat And Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
The point of view a story is told in has a significant impact on how the reader perceives the story, the
plot, and the characters. Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston, 1978, and Pigeons at Daybreak by Anita Desai,
1926, are both narrated in third person limited omniscient. Although both stories are narrated from the
same point of view and both follow the protagonist of the story, the stories portray the main characters
as complete opposites. While Delia, the protagonist in Sweat , invokes empathy from the reader, she
ultimately is strong and independent. Mr. Basu, the protagonist in Pigeons at Daybreak , invokes
frustration and pity from the reader as he is begging for sympathy from his wife.

In the story Pigeons at Daybreak the protagonist, Mr. Basu, is portrayed as a very ill man who uses his
illness to gain sympathy from his wife who is his sole caretaker. Although she does her best to take
care of him and provide him with everything he needs, Mr. Basu is continuously rude and
unappreciative toward her. As the story goes on, the narrator continues to portray Mr. Basu in a
negative light. For example, when Mrs. Basu reads the newspaper to her husband and he says, You can
t be reading right (Desai 221) assuming she is incapable of reading the newspaper, although she is
highly educated. Mr. Basu s negative attitude elicits a disapproving review from the reader.
Throughout the story, the reader is constantly reminded how self centered and selfish Mr. Basu is,
especially as Mrs. Basu begins blaming herself when he becomes overwhelmed and worried. The third
person limited omniscient perspective emphasizes the overall theme which is appreciating what others
are gifting you with rather than taking advantage of their generosity. It does so by creating a sense of
understanding of both Mr. Basu s frustration, and Mrs. Basu s patience. In contrast to Sweat , the third
person narrator in Pigeons at Daybreak invokes the reader to feel negatively toward the main

Even if he was spared another gunner s bullet at the end of the mission, he knew he was still not safe.
In the case of a forced landing, he knew he would be sacrificed. On the third line Six miles from the
earth, loosed from its dream of life one can observe his acknowledgment of this surreal reality. This
leads the character to the understanding of not only his physical distance from earth, but also from
earthly life and the odds against him going back to that life. He was already preparing himself for the
worst and suppressing his hopes of survival. Through the distress of a single man, Jarrell is able to
depict the fears of a lonely soldier in an extremely vulnerable position, and invites us into the heinous
reality of war which forces us to question our impressions of soldiers having no fear yet not
questioning their bravery. War can produce gruesome situations that can cause even the bravest men to
face their fears, but it is how they deal with this fear that is the important part. Ball turret gunners were
courageous warriors. They were fully aware of how susceptible to death they were, nevertheless, they
would continue to fight time after time. WWII was a dreadful episode in human history that killed
millions of people, and its bloodshed is described by the UN Charter as a scourge that has brought

The Life and Music of Gustav Holst Essay
The Life and Music of Gustav Holst
Gustav Holst, born in Cheltenham in September 1847, is still today considered to be one of the
greatest music composers of all time. He was not very fond of music when he was younger, but he
enjoyed the piano. He was sent to Cheltenham Grammar School and forced to take long music
lessons, even though he had neuritis in his hands.
His first job was an organist and Choirmaster at the Choral Society, Bourbon on the Water. Impressed
at his good ear for music, his father borrowed some money to send him to the Royal College of Music,
which he had previously failed to enter.
As he got older, the neuritis in his hands got worse, and it was almost impossible for him to play the

After many refusals of his works, Holst became rather unwell, so took him to Algeria for a holiday.
The warm climate and bright colours of Algeria inspired Holst, so he decided to start working on a
new piece called Beni Mora, but it was not a great success.
In 1912, his performance of The Cloud Messenger was a hit, so he went to Spain for a holiday to
celebrate. While there, he met Clifford Bax, who encouraged him to write a movement called The
Planets. It was very successful.
In 1923, Holst was conducting a rehearsal at University College, when he slipped and fell off the
platform onto his head. The damage was deadly, and it was years before he recovered from the effects.
Later on, after a trip to America, Holst received great congratulations for his performance of the
Planets, and an anonymous rich man gave him several hundred pounds to spend on his music. But,
Holst was beginning to have bad effects of the concussion he was in earlier, and he couldn t bear to
have anything touch the back of his head. He spent many nights in agony, so his doctor suggested that
he moved away from London.
So that is exactly what he did. He bought a small house in Thaxtead and lived there for nearly a year,
but much of his music was failing.
In 1926, Holst was working in Dorset. He wrote a piece called Egdon Health dedicated to Thomas
Hardy, and he knew it was the best thing he had

Descriptive and Inferential Statistics
When faced with an analysis of a situation which deals with a population, an analyzer will incorporate
both descriptive and inferential statistics to evaluate his or her results and create a credible conclusion.
Descriptive statistics provides information focused on an immediate group of data. After defining
what needs to be analyzed, the descriptive statistics will help the analyzer abridge the data to a more
meaningful and comprehendible form, which will then provide patterns in his or her research that, will
provide a foundation to his or her thesis. For example, a person could use descriptive statistics to

throughout this paper. The Five Factor Model of personality in which a 55 and above is a high score,
54 45 is average and 44 and below is low, is categorized as followed: Openness, Conscientiousness,
Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. In addition, I will as well consider Pat s MMPI 2 (an

Finally, Pat neuroticism result is 75, this result shows she as a high level of anxiety and depression.
She can be insecure, worried, nervous and high strung, which explained her MMP1 2 result of

health concerns, which could explain Pat result in the Five Factor Model.
Pat results seem to accurately describe her personality traits, which in my opinion would be an
introvert, a loner. She fined it hard to trust people and prefer to stay at home. She is not very calm in
situations and disorganized in task. Yet Pat sees herself as a fighter, and if she get knocked down she

What is Sales Promotion?
Sales promotion is an incentive given to the consumer to buy the company s products or services.
Although some sales promotions can be continuous (frequent flier miles), most of such programs are
short term. They are usually used to cash in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, providing details about the various travel packages available by travel sites like
MakeMyTrip.com or TravelGuru.com through email to the people is nothing but sales promotions.
The additional information about various mutual funds, various insurance policies given by the
companies through any form of media can be considered as a sales promotion. This is where the
companies need to draw a line. As the article says, the company needs to inform the customer to the
intangible benefits of buying a certain policy, not just the monetary savings he will make by using the
policy.
Stimulating Demand Apart from building initial product awareness, another important use of sales
promotion is to build demand by convincing customers to make a purchase. Special promotions,
especially those that lower the cost to the customer can be employed to stimulate sales. Sales
promotion can be used as a tool to help consumer in making a choice between two similar
commodities. For example if there are no points of difference for two commodities, then sales
promotion helps consumer to make choice between the two commodities.
Reinforcing the Brand Once customers have made a purchase, sales promotion can be used to both
encourage additional purchasing and also as a reward for purchase loyalty. Loyalty programs may
include price discounts, free products etc. Many companies, including airlines and retail

Hall And Warren And Henry 5 Comparison
Shakespeare produced works in tragedy and comedy that date back for centuries. Scholars can take
Shakespeare works throughout the years and fit them to the changing times. Edward Hall and Roger
Warren s 2012 scholarly edition of Henry the Fifth is an updated modern version of the original Henry
the Fifth. This versions focus is to modernize the work from a performance perspective. Hall and
warren provide the reader with plenty of information to help the reader understand the text as a
performance. Hall and Warren include text in the introduction by subcategories about the backstory of

In this section Warren starts with the opening scene where the audience would expect to see King
Henry as their first view because that is what the story is based off but after the Chorus s opening
panegyric, what does the audience see? Not the king in glory, but two ecclesiastical politicians . (9)
This is good information for the reader to understand that in the original story, although the focus was
on King Henry, the audience first sees what started the entire attack the politicians offering Henry a
bribe to invade France. (9) By Warren putting the backstory in his introduction and including text
about the opening seen if Henry V it allows the reader to get an idea of not only what the play is about
but begin to create a story or image in their minds of the play and character. Warren s summary of the
original play provides an abundance of information for the reader and contributes to the quality of this
edition of Henry V making it well rounded with information contributing to different versions of the
play to display the similarities and

Raising The Bar Analysis
So Jon Taffer, the guy who does the show Bar Rescue, wrote an extremely insightful book into what
he thinks makes a successful bar and it s titled Raising the Bar I picked it up a couple years ago but I
decided to read it again and the very first chapter is titled You Sell One Thing: Reactions So in this
chapter, Jon goes on and talkes a lot about how the number one thing that business owners fail to
realize is that it s not enough to just have a business that s running, rather you need to have a business
that leaves a good and positive impression on people to truly succeed. Here s a paragraph from it that I
really enjoy: Think about this: Two people get dressed in the morning. One person throws on whatever
clothes are available; the other takes the time to select an outfit and make sure it s clean, pressed, and
put together. WHo makes the better impression? The carefully dressed person is thought of as calmer,
more powerful, smarter, and more thoughtful than the sloppy one. In an experiment to test perceptions
and appearance, teaching assistants who wore formal clothes were perceived as more intelligent than
those who dressed more casually. A Harvard study found that women who wore makeup were
considered more competent and likable than their barefaced counterparts. ... Show more content on

Kayak Camping Trip Essay
Kayak Fishing Camping Trip Tips (951 Words)
Whether you want to spend more time at your favorite fishing spot or finally have time to make a trip
to explore some new lakes or rivers, there s nothing quite like a kayak fishing camping trip. Not only
do they offer a great excuse to fish to your heart s content, but you also get to spend more time in the
great outdoors. However, combining kayak fishing with camping means you need to spend a lot more
time on preparation, especially if you are far from home. Unless you want to discover that you ve left
behind something essential take note of the following tips to ensure that your kayak fishing camping
trip goes smoothly.
1. Do Your Research
A kayak fishing camping trip is exciting, but make sure that you do all your research before diving in
headfirst. This means checking whether camping is allowed in the area you want to visit, what the best
times of the year are for camping there and what the weather will be like during your stay. As
disappointing as it might be, it is better to cancel your trip if stormy weather is predicted instead of
thinking of just braving it.
2. Only Bring The Essentials
As important as it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes it a lot easier to pack everything efficiently, but it also means you have to spend less time
rummaging around inside bigger bags to find what you need. It is also a good idea to categorize
everything first before packing, so you won t end up searching for the toilet paper in the electronics
bag or have to dig in the toiletries bag looking for dry food bars. Color coding your bags works the
best and make sure to distribute the weight of the bags properly when loading them in your kayak. No
matter how good you are at Tetris, stacking things up on your deck is not a good idea as it causes more

The Woman Warrior Analysis
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston crafts a fictitious memoir of her girlhood among
ghosts. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her
representation of Chinese Americanism was contended by Asian American scholars and authors. The
Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston integrates
the importance of storytelling in the evolution of her identity and relates her method of exploring self
discovery to the dominant themes about silence and the translation of tradition. Throughout her work,
Kingston reaches a variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by performing her
interpretation of talk story. Consequently, there is inaccuracy in Kingston s storytelling, which
cultivates the sense that Kingston is reshaping and untangling the tales of her ancestral tradition to
fulfill her personal narrative about identity. Kingston fictionalizes her memoir through storytelling in
order to convey the thematic significance of defying silence, breaking from objectivity, and the
translation of Chinese traditions to America.
In The Woman Warrior, Kingston immediately establishes the structure of a fictitious memoir through
the story of the No Name Woman , Kingston s dead aunt. Kingston first writes her mother s version of
the story, in which her sister in law became pregnant outside of her marriage, was ambushed by the
villagers, and killed herself and her child in the

A Worker Undertaking Call Centre Training it might be said: I SUMMARY Paul, a worker undertaking call centre training with Telecall at the company s 10 storey building was injured on the 1st of September 2015 in an attempted murder accident and you have sought my advice on this matter. I advise that there is a serious risk that the company will be held liable on account of owing a duty of care to Paul and other employees. II BACKGROUND, FACTS AND EVIDENCE A personnel hire company engaged Paul for call centre training with host employer TeleCall. David, another worker who was undertaking the same training course, absented himself from the training room and was found wandering around the rooftop balcony by Suzie. Suzie is an employee of TeleCall and she noted that David ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, in novel situations they will utilize the salient features approach (which includes the foreseeability of harm to persons and proximity) to make a determination on the matter. Other key salient features that need to be assessed are: vulnerability of the plaintiff to harm, the defendant s control over the risk of harm, the indeterminacy of liability and the need for coherence. B Nature of the Relationship Between the Parties Paul was originally engaged by a personnel hire company to undertake training provided by TeleCall for work in the TeleCall call centre. This means that Paul is not an employee of TeleCall and as such his relationship with the firm does not fall within an established category of duty. Therefore, a duty of care can only be established on the basis of the salient features approach identified in Sullivan v Moody. C Reasonable Foreseeability A duty of care cannot be established solely on the basis of reasonable foreseeability, but it is an important consideration. At the duty stage, the test of reasonable foreseeability does not to ask if the injury itself is foreseeable. Rather, the focus at this stage is whether careless conduct of any kind by the defendant, might result in the plaintiff or class of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. First-Person Narration In Edgar Allen Poe s The Black Cat There are different literary elements working together in order to help readers to understand the text. Each element has its own functions, and it will affect the text specifically. In this essay, I will focus on the element of narration, narrative voice, and point of view for my critical analysis. Edgar Allen Poe, Guy de Maupassant, and Dashiell Hammett are the authors that I will discuss. Different authors used different types of narration in their stories. However, no matter which types of narration, the narrative techniques among authors increased the attractiveness of their stories. Edgar Allen Poe s narration skills helped readers to understand the stories thoroughly. Poe used to apply first person narration in his stories. Therefore, ... Again, the first person narration helped readers to understand the more about the narrator. Readers could feel the horrors when the narrator was proud of his murder. Poe writes, If still you think me mad, you will think so no longer when I described the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body (Poe 76). The narrator thought he did a good job on handling the dead body. From the words from the narrator directly, readers could know how crazy this person was, and feel horrors from what he did. Therefore, the story would become more interesting to readers because those horrible feelings were the things that readers looking for. The first person narration not only helped readers to know more about the characters, but also made the ending of the story more interesting. After the narrator killed an old man, the police went to his house to investigate the case. At first, the officers could not find anything. However, the situation got changed suddenly. Poe says, ... It was a low, dull, quick sound much such a sound as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton... but the noise steadily increased (Poe 77). • 4. The Decolonization Of Mars A lot can be said about Mars. It was named after the Roman God of War, Mars, for its red color. One of the biggest topics of conversation regarding Mars is whether or not us humans should be looking to colonize the Red Planet. I won t be getting into the debate of privatized or public space programs because in the end they are both working towards a common goal of getting to Mars. The points I will layout through this essay will be, is Mars habitable, how much money it will cost to get to Mars, some thoughts from Stephen Petranek and is it an actual solution. When we get to the topic of habitability on Mars, we have to focus on the main points. Is the atmosphere able to sustain life? Are we able to grow food to feed animals and ourselves? ... What has been stated earlier in the essay was having supplies brought to Mars earlier than our intended arrival, and some of the stuff there could be dry food. In his Ted talk, he states that about 80% of the food we would eat on Mars would be dry foods, and the other would be grown gradually over time. Petranek says in his Ted talk that about 15 20% would be grown from hydroponics. What this means is that plants would grow without soil, because Martian soil is toxic. It is considered to be toxic because NASA s Curiosity rover found perchlorates in the Martian ground. We wouldn t be able to grow food easily until there is running water on the surface, and we found an easier way to make the dirt able to be used for farming practices. I personally wouldn t enjoy having to eat dried foods for a long time while living on Mars, but some other people might. I would need the greens and vegetables to thrive for an extended amount of ... It may be, but far from it in education. Out of a total of thirty four countries of the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development, it ranks just fourteenth in reading, seventeenth in science and twenty fifth in math (Walker). Despite America s status as a country, America s education is failing because of the large emphasis on standardized education, and the flaws of the students, parents, and teachers. Professor Friedman says, If you leave a low value added teacher in your school for 10 years, rather than replacing him with an average teacher, you are hypothetically talking about $2.5 million in lost income. Schools need good teachers, but firing unqualified teachers has proved to be a difficult task. Too many teachers lack the ability to educate their students, and prepare them for the future, and too few of these ineffective teachers are losing their jobs. Firing an incompetent teacher requires getting the union, the school board, the principal, and the judicial system involved, followed by thousands of dollars in legal fees. It is seldom that a teacher is ever fired. One California school spent eight thousand dollars to fire one teacher protected by tenure (Stephey). The trouble that schools must go through to fire an inept teacher deters schools from firing the teacher. The teacher will keep his job, and continue to poorly educate students and prepare them for the future. One skill that I learned while watching the Lynda.com videos was creating functions in tables to help calculate averages, sums, products, etc. Learning how to use mathematic functions through Microsoft Word can not only be helpful but in many cases essential for an accountant to learn. An example of when this skill would be helpful is when I would need to prepare financial data into a word document for a financial report. If I mastered this skill I would be able to input financial data into tables and graphs much faster, which would allow me to spend more time on research and the quality of my work. This tool is also useful because it shows that unlike many accountants in the industry I can prove to my company that I am familiar with technology and that I am efficient. • 13. The Catholic Church Essay The Catholic Church The Catholic Church in the 20th Century underwent tremendous change, most significantly as a result of the Second Vatican Council. This Council created an atmosphere of reform within the leading theologians and the hierarchy of the Church. Consequently, when Pope Paul VI released his encyclical Humanae Vitae, to many of the reformers it seemed to contradict the sentiment of the Council. At the same time, though, there was a movement afoot to radically change the power structure of the Church. Led by the same liberal theologians who took offense to the pro life policies laid out in Humanae Vitae, the aim was to transition the Church from an authoritarian power structure to a more democratic model. (McInerny 17 18) This image is very symbolic of the attempt to overthrow the teaching authority of the Pope taking place in the Catholic Church following the historic release of Humanae Vitae, an important papal encyclical following the religious revolution known as Vatican II. Unremarkable for its content, which simply reaffirmed the current Church views on contraceptive use, the response to Humanae Vitae has been shocking. The controversy over Humanae Vitae revealed a schism between liberal and conservative elements in the Church. This rift included the Church s view of birth control, but on a deeper level was about the right of the Pope to dictate the official Church teaching without following the dictates of the laity, bishops, cardinals, or theologians. Leading the liberal, revolutionary forces were the Church s leading theologians, and guiding the conservative, counter revolutionary side was the Pope, primarily under Pope Paul VI. To understand the response of theologians, it is important to look at the conditions surrounding the encyclical s release. In 1959 Pope John XXIII announced that the ... Retelling the story of the collapse of Wall Street had a further result than merely being lucrative though. Movies like Inside Job (2010), Too Big to Fail (2011) and The Big Short (2015) also inform people about the causes and dealings of the financial collapse. Most importantly however, they evoke an emotional response by telling the audience where to lay the blame. However, the movies not only helped shape the public narrative, they are also reflections of the people s attitudes towards Wall Street. While the movie s narrative stands in contrast to the narratives that advertising, journalism and public relations told, it is still the more commonly accepted one. • 24. The Importance Of Earnest By Oscar Wilde First and foremost, The Importance of Earnest is a comedy of manners as Oscar Wilde s main premise is to satirise the behaviours of upper class Victorian society, as he knew it. In order to achieve this he created witty dialogue, ridiculed the institution of marriage and appealed, more, to the audience s intelligence than their emotions. However, he also creates comedy by installing farcical features such as mistaken identity, physical humour and an absurd plot. Through the use of repartee (one of the main features of a Comedy of Manners), between Jack and Algernon in Act 1, Wilde displays the upper class as hypocritical. When Jack says, My dear Algy, you talk exactly as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isn t a dentist. It produces a false impression. He tries to claim that Algernon is being deceitful but instead, highlights his own hypocrisy, as previously he had been trying to deceive him about Cecily. By using three consecutive short sentences, a slow and steady pace is created; contrary to the effect it usually has or is used for. This casual pace is hilarious because it creates an agreeable tone, when in fact, what he is saying is not of reason. From this, the audience can tell that Jack is arguing for the sake of arguing, since his words are not of actual substance, which makes it even funnier seeing that he is constructing an irrelevant link that does not even prove his point. Orestes father, Agamemnon, is suffered for the truth of the prophecy, the child is the price: if he kills his child, his country will win the war. Due to this prophecy, Agamemnon is tortured and agonizing between his two important roles: father of his family and father of the country. If he chooses his family and doesn t kill his child, they will lose the war. All people in the country will be tortured as slaves and colonists. However, if he chooses the win, the peace and the pleasant from a family will not exist anymore. His family will be demolished. Eventually, in the middle of the story, he decides to kill Iphigenia. Agamemnon chooses his country, his subjects, and the win, not his family s peace. He makes Iphigenia drink three solutions including the pills which make her die. I feel ... In a 2006 study, it showed that female veterans financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that about 23 33 percent of women have been assaulted, compared to the 17 percent of women in the general population. As well as this study a recent Pentagon report had showed that in the academic year of 2010 2011 there we 65 reported assaults that involved female cadets and midshipmen. • 29. Critical Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find By... Flannery O Connor was often shocked to find how people interpreted her stories. Some readers of A Good Man is Hard to Find believed the grandmother was evil, even a witch. Soon O Connor set out, quite explicitly, in letters and lectures to detail the theology of the story and the importance of the grandmother as an agent of grace. In a letter to John Hawkes, she explained how violence and grace come together: More than in the Devil I am interested in the indication of Grace, the moment when you know that Grace has been offered and accepted such as the moment when the Grandmother realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. These moments are prepared for (by me anyway) by the intensity of the evil circumstances. When O Connor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally O Connor chalked up all the misreadings and confusion to the spiritual shortcomings of the modern reader: Today s audience is one in which religious feeling has become, if not atrophied, at least vaporous and sentimental. But the discrepancies between how O Connor is often read and how she claimed she should be read cannot simply be explained by her theology of grace or by the lack of religious feeling among readers. Critical opinion over the years has tended to line up behind O Connor s own explanations; however, O Connor s analysis of A Good Man Is Hard to Find still seems baffling and occasionally a critic has questioned the theology of the fiction. Andre Bleikasten, focusing on O Connor s novels, claimed that the truth of O Connor s work is the truth of her art, not that of her church. Her fiction does refer to an implicit theology, but if we rely, as we should, on its testimony rather than on the author s comments, we shall have to admit that the Catholic orthodoxy of her work is at least debatable And Frederick Asals recalls D. H. Lawrence s advice that a reader should trust the tale and not the teller. The difference in dialogues is because during this time, white people recieved a better education than black people, and as a result of that, their articulation is better. It is also interesting the way he wrote his conversations with his students. He talked to them as if they were his friends and teased them just to get a reaction out of them. He also talked to them and treated them as equals, not as African American subordinates. The description of Conroys conversations is also written really well. Conroy is able to take a story about his experience teaching students into a story that will anger people and make them feel emotions they would not have felt otherwise. Conroy shows the reader how conflicts which caused the Civil War can be in effect 100 years later. The Civil War was fought over African Americans and their rights as a citizen, and even though the war was won in favor of them, they were still treated as such and not given the education they deserved. This leads the character to the understanding of not only his physical distance from earth, but also from earthly life and the odds against him going back to that life. War can produce gruesome situations that can cause even the bravest men to face their fears, but it is how they deal with this fear that is the important part. In 1912, his performance of The Cloud Messenger was a hit, so he went to Spain for a holiday to celebrate. While there, he met Clifford Bax, who encouraged him to write a movement called The Planets. It was very successful. In 1923, Holst was conducting a rehearsal at University College, when he slipped and fell off the platform onto his head. The damage was deadly, and it was years before he recovered from the effects. Later on, after a trip to America, Holst received great congratulations for his performance of the Planets, and an anonymous rich man gave him several hundred pounds to spend on his music. But, Holst was beginning to have bad effects of the concussion he was in earlier, and he couldn t bear to have anything touch the back of his head. He spent many nights in agony, so his doctor suggested that he moved away from London. So that is exactly what he did. He bought a small house in Thaxtead and lived there for nearly a year, but much of his music was failing. In 1926, Holst was working in Dorset. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her representation of Chinese Americanism was contended by Asian American scholars and authors. The Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston integrates the importance of storytelling in the evolution of her identity and relates her method of exploring self discovery to the dominant themes about silence and the translation of tradition. Throughout her work, Kingston reaches a variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by performing her interpretation of talk story. Consequently, there is inaccuracy in Kingston s storytelling, which cultivates the sense that Kingston is reshaping and untangling the tales of her ancestral tradition to fulfill her personal narrative about identity. Kingston fictionalizes her memoir through storytelling in order to convey the thematic significance of defying silence, breaking from objectivity, and the translation of Chinese traditions to America. In The Woman Warrior, Kingston immediately establishes the structure of a fictitious memoir through the story of the No Name Woman , Kingston s dead aunt.
