The Juvenile Justice System Essay
1.Name four problems that existed with the juvenile justice system in the early 19thcentury. The
juvenile justice system was subject to a lot of corruption and civil rights violations in its early
stages. Juveniles did not have the same rights as adults and could be forced into terrible living
or working conditions. With no child labor laws, delinquent juveniles could be sentenced to
forced labor in factories or to houses of refuge. With the ruling of Ex Parte Crouse, the state took
ultimate responsibility of children and send them to these institutions, even against the will of
the parents. Some of these institutions, such as houses of refuge may have started with good
intention, but they ultimately led to rampart corruption and abuse of juveniles. 2.Which type of
children and young people did Reform Schools focus on working with? Houses of Refuge were
intended for which type of juveniles? Reform schools formed to take custody of wayward or
incorrigible children that the state deemed necessary. A child could be taken from their parents
and sent to a reform school if it is deemed that the parents are not providing a good enough home
for them. Houses of refuge were designed to get juveniles out of the adult system. It was proven
that locking up youths with criminals was a bad idea for multiple reasons, so houses of refuge
were formed to separate them. They were designed for those juveniles that the state deemed
savable, and those seen as to far gone would be sent to the

Essay on The New Liberal Arts
Anh Pham
English 101
The New Liberal Arts is an article written by Sanford J. Ungar, who is a president of Goucher
College in Baltimore, Maryland. In the beginning of his article, Ungar wrote, Hard economic times
inevitably bring scrutiny of all accepted ideals and institutions, and this time around the liberal arts
education has been especially hard hit. In other words, Ungar means that recent economic
recessions have made a huge impact on what people think of going for a liberal arts degree. In his
essay, Ungar lists seven misperceptions and how he reacts to them. The most common
misperception that Ungar identified is that liberal arts degrees are no longer affordable. The cost
for liberal arts education is very expensive while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wrote, The career bandwagon seems to suggest that shortcuts are available to students that
lead directly to high paying jobs leaving out frills like learning how to write and speak well, how
to understand the nuances of literacy texts and scientific concepts, how to collaborate with
others on research What he means by that is there is no shortcuts to a high paying jobs. He also
implies that liberal arts education is the only right way to prepare an individual for their future
career because it equips ones with the abilities to write and speak formally, and understandings
on scientific matter or how to cooperate with other people for your work, etc. However, I do not
think he can deny the fact that the starting salary for a liberal arts graduate is approximately
$32,500 while for an engineer is $75,000, (http://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome
/salary/). For instant, what can a person possibly do with his philosophy degree right after
graduating? He will probably have to go for more schooling before he can find a high paying job at
some big firms or he will have to struggle a lot before he can open his philosophy shop or publish
his book. In short, a liberal arts degree will take longer to see its worth than career education or
vocational training.

Postpartum Depression And The Depression
The postpartum time period is depicted as a joyful time for mothers, but in some cases it can be a
time of calamity (Jevitt, Groer, Crist, Gonzalez, Wagner, 2012). Postpartum Depression (PPD) in
women after childbirth is a common occurrence. It happens in all races, ethnicities, and
socioeconomic statuses. PPD is a severe depression that affects mothers after childbirth. It involves
serious depression, sadness, and loneliness. Cheryl Tatano Beck is a nursing theorist who is
known for her work and research with postpartum depression and the development of the
Postpartum Depression Screening Scale (PDSS) and the development of the Postpartum
Depression Predictors Inventory (PDPI) (Alligood, 2014). She began her focus on obstetrical
nursing after she graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 1970 (Alligood, 2014).
Beck s focus was first on studying women in labor and fetal monitoring (Alligood, 2014). She
then moved to studying and researching PPD. Beck noticed that there was not much research done
on the disorder (Alligood, 2014). Beck wrote her theory called teetering on the edge, as part of her
doctorate thesis is 1993 (Alligood, 2014). This thesis focused on the importance of different risk
factors and concepts regarding postpartum depression and is the foundation of her theory.
Foundations of the Theory
Beck s theory on Postpartum Depression is strongly based upon many other theorists work. She

A Wrinkle In Time Quotes
Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it yourself. It is not that far.
It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. Perhaps it
is everywhere on water and land. Walt Whitman. In other words, you can not make others do
everything for you because when you re alone you won t have them to rely on for guidance or to
comfort you, sometimes you just have to do it yourself. You may already have what you need, or
you may need to search or work towards it. Meg Murryfrom the novel A Wrinkle in Time
can relate
to this quote in many ways, she struggles with doing stuff by herself, instead of relying on others.
Meg the protagonist of the novel has countless attributes and characteristics that show who she
is, have helped her change as a person, and throughout her journey also including helping her
achieve heroic acts . 2 Meg is a young self critical person that is constantly criticizing herself and
being negative. Everyone tells her how she will be alright and how everything will work out, but
she completely disagrees and thinks she is dumb, ugly, over emotional, a delinquent, and a person
that everyone hates, except for her family For example Meg said, I don t want him to grow up to
be dumb like me. (p11) An another example is A delinquent, that s what I am, she thought grimly.
(p6) Seemingly, Meg has a great lack of confidence, does not fit in and is very unsure about
everything. She feels she is

The Causes And Contributions Of The Human Genome Project
Human Genome ProjectA genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The
human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of
chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome
Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNAbase pairs,
and it is estimated that the entire human genomeconsists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we
have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human
Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016).
The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human
DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating
specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was
the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline
through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along
with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). Fast forwarding to 1995, where the
human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the sequence of the first human
chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed.

Parable Of The Sower By Octavia E. Butler
Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler can be categorized as an environmental novel, a
utopian tale within dystopian tale and hero s journey. A utopian novel is defined as a fiction
where readers find characteristics that they would like to implement in society. This is a novel
about a young woman named Lauren along with others who finds herself in a prisoned like
world. They find themselves in a society where everything is controlled and offers them no
possibility of ever living a normal life. There are no jobs for the young, broken marriages and
homes, poor economy and worst yet, constant fear as thieves and drug addicts rule their lives
outside the walls. In this novel we meet a brave young womanwho embarks on the journey to
freedom and exhibits the quality as a female leader and also inspires people to travel with her. This
story strongly fits the qualities of a feminist novel as it illustrates a African American women who
is determined to succeed in an exceptionally difficult circumstance.
To further prove that the Parable of the Sower best fits the qualities of a feminist novel, we must
first understand this genre of novel. Feminist novels, depicts the importance of the feminist

VIпјЋ VICTORIA S SECRET S MAIN COMPETITOR IN FRENCH MARKET ETAM
Data (exhibit 12) shows that Dim and Etam are the main players in French women underwear
market. Dim at 4, 786 users compared to Etam s 4, 422. Other known brands such as Kiabi, H M,
Playtex, Sloggi, Undiz, and other brands take a slight portion of the market but not as big as Dim
and Etam. But it seems that Dim is not only targeting women but everyone, its target is uncertain.
So, we do not consider Dim as the main competitor of Victoria s Secret or Etam
Playtex is a woman focused brand targeting aged 25 44, but now it is investing 1 million euros to

While in the European market, Victoria s Secret faces a fierce competition especially in the French
lingerie market given that Etam has already occupied a large market share. And Darjeeling is
regarded as the potential competitor of Victoria s Secret. But Victoria s Secret is strong enough to
compete with all these brands.
Despite Victoria s Secret s revenue proportion inside Limited Brands going down, the percentage
of the world lingerie revenue has slightly decreased, this brand still takes a large portion of the

Unit 7 Technical Assessment Questions
1. Why is risk mitigation and filling in critical security gaps an important next step after the security
assessment is performed?
During your security assessment you probably found some gaps, some of them may be critical
gaps, so naturally the next step should be to fix those gaps. Once you know you are exposed you
want to fix those gaps ASAP before they get exploited.
2. How do you align the results of the qualitative risk assessment to risk mitigation?
You align the results by how likely each risk is to be exploited. The critical security gaps should be
taken care of before the low level risks.
3. What were the major elements of your risk mitigation project plan?

Comparing The Chimney Sweeper And The Chimney Sweep
The Chimney Sweep poems of Experience and Innocence are different and similar in tone all
threw out the poems in many ways. From the way the kids are feeling, to the way the author
describes the way the characters act in the poem. The author shows us how both poems are alike
by describing the character s emotions. In both poems it shows us how they were miserable. In
The Chimney Sweeper (from songs of Innocence) it says There s little Tom Dacre, who cried
when his head, that curled like a lamb s back, was shaved , and in The Chimney Sweeper (from
songs of Experience) it also says A little black thing among the snow, crying weep! weep! in notes
of woe! , in both poems letting us know how they both felt dejected but in different ways.

Father Barry On The Waterfront Pigeons And Pigeons
The Transformations of Pigeons and Hawks On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, is an
award winning, controversial film that portrays the symbols of hawks and pigeons. Pigeons are
seen as weak and fragile animals. Hawks, on the other hand, have eyes on the side of their head
and see everything around them. They are the birds on top of the food chain. Hawks may not be
able to transform into pigeons and pigeons may not be able to morph into hawks in the real
world, but some characters prove to be able to do the impossible. Father Barry is a character that
demonstrates how one can spread his weak pigeon wings and fly like a hawk. Contrarily, Johnny
Friendly shows how one can begin leading like a powerful hawk and subsequently lose their ability
to hunt in an instant becoming a scared, fragile pigeon.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Father Barry wants to see a change in his town because of the appalling mob situation. The mob
looks at him as a weak priest. He is told to go back to his church and not mess with the mob.
None of the mob takes him seriously and only talk to him to say that they are sorry because they
do not want to go to hell for all the things they have done. Father Barry decides to take matters
into his own hands. He has meetings and even preaches a sermon when Dugan died. He tells the
longshoremen that killing Joey Doyle and Kayo Dugan before they are going to speak the truth,
is a crucifixion. He continues to use his voice while others throw objects at him. This shows, all
the men look at Father Barry as a pigeon. The longshoremen prove to be naive. Father Barry, both
physically and mentally ascends above the others during this scene, showing him gaining the
characteristics of a hawk. He is now the predator. The mob is the prey. Father Barry has risen to

Chicago on May 15, 1902. He was graduated from De La Salle Institute in 1918 and worked in the
stockyards for several years before studying law. While studying, he worked as a clerk in the
Cook County Controller s office. In 1936 Daley married Eleanor Guilfoyle, and the couple had

A machine politician in the old tradition, Daley will use patronage to control the Illinois state vote
and obtain tax breaks and zoning law favors for real estate interests and others that support him.
Although Daley remained popular and influential during his several terms, his administration was
marred by a number of political scandals, by civil rights disturbances, and by a riot at the 1968
Democratic convention. Daley was among John F. Kennedy s key supporters in the 1960
presidential election, providing him with the delegates who helped him win a first ballot
nomination and a massive Chicago vote that delivered Illinois for Kennedy in his narrow victory
over Richard M. Nixon. Daley hosted the 1968 Democratic National Convention at President
Lyndon B. Johnson s request. Daley s national reputation was seriously tarnished as the result of
violence between anti Vietnam War demonstrators and Chicago police. Ironically, Daley had been
a private critic of the Victnam War and had urged Johnson to withdraw U.S. forces. In 1972, Daley
was dealt another blow when the Democratic National Convention refused to seat his Illinois
delegation because of noncompliance with new selection rules. In 1976, Jimmy Carter said that
Daley s endorsement clinched his first ballot nomination for the presidency, but Daley failed to
deliver Illinois for Carter in the election. Controlling 30,000

Why Build a Canal had an interesting take on the importance of building the Panama Canal. Many
believed the military had a great deal of importance using the ports. President Theodore Roosevelt
believed that an U.S needed a controlled canal that could offer a great deal of domination as far as
connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean for our military. Frenchman Ferdinand de Lesseps, who
was behind the Suez Canal, became an International Hero by marshaling the political and technical

thought that the yellow fever was caused by bad air, but it had been proven that the disease was
transmitted by mosquitoes. It was very tragic that it led to a lot of workers to death because it

workers that would come in and help build canal, how were they protected. As shown in the

Cyber crime and traditional crime have similar identifiable traits when criminal activity is the
outcome. The goal of any criminal is to cause harm, threat steal, extortion, to name a few with intent
to harm the public good. Local and state law prosecutes traditional crimes through the state attorney.
The prosecutorrepresents the people(entity) of the state. The defendant or the entity charged must
prove to the state, by reasonable doubt, their innocent s of the charges. Individuals that are charged
with a crimehave the option of hearing their case in front of a judge or a jury. The prosecution can

Edna St. Vincent Millay And William Shakespeare s Sonnet...
Edna St. Vincent Millay and William Shakespeare both deal with the concept of time in Sonnet
and Sonnet 30 . Millay s sonnet focuses on how time affects a person through aging while
Shakespeare s sonnet focuses on the idea that the duration of time can be beneficial in providing
comfort to overcome one s grief. Although written in two different time periods the two writers
have similar writing styles, such as the use of word choice, poetic techniques, and literary devices to
further portray the theme and effect of time. In Sonnetthe opening line, That built the child and
hardened the soft bone (2), demonstrates the beginning of life and the beginning of one s life
journey, indicating the sonnet will discuss the course of the speaker s life. In Shakespeare s
Sonnet 30 the speaker remembers former times in his life, specifically the things past (2). He, the
speaker of the sonnet, is attempting to bring up moments that happened in his prior life when his
friend played a great role in it. Within the first two lines of Sonnet and Sonnet 30, the difference of
the interpretation of time is visible. Shakespeare s Sonnet 30 focuses on the positive outcome, the
feeling of comfort, from a situation in the past while Millay s sonnet focuses on the negative
outcome, aging, from a situation in the future. Sonnet by Edna St. Vincent Millayuses imagery to
describe the aging of a once young and healthy individual. She, the speaker, is aging needing the
assistance and aid of the cane...and the special chair (12). Her physical appearance and physical
needs demonstrate how time is playing a negative roll on her externally. Sonnet 30 uses imagery
to showcase the positive effect time has on one internally. When the speaker says, I summon up
remembrance of things past (2) it can be inferred that the speaker s friend is currently far from
the speaker, whether it be in an afterlife world, or simply in a different city. Sonnet 30 portrays
time as helpful and kind because when the speaker thinks of his friend from the past, All losses are
restored and sorrows end. (12) Millay and Shakespeare also make use of personification to further
develop the theme each sonnet portrays. Sonnet 30 personifies

The Psychological Needs Of A Social Network Service
With a rapidly growing number of active users, Facebook is beginning to serve a huge social
purpose for most young people. The use of online social network service, such as Facebook,
provides people with the ability to remain socially connected with a large network of friends.
Besides satisfying its users need to stay connected with their social groups, Facebook has also
been shown to satisfy users psychological needs. However, recent research also links Facebook to
the less desirable outcomes, particularly social isolation and interpersonal neglect. Interpersonal
neglect on Facebook, such as friend rejection and being ignored by other users, has been shown
to negatively affect the four basic human psychological needs. These four psychological needs
include one s need to maintain high self esteem, one s need to have personal control over social
relationship, one s need to be recognized by others, and one s need to have a sense of belonging.
This article examined the impact of interpersonal neglect, such as in the case of receiving few
responses from Facebook friends, on these four basic psychological needs. The two studies
conducted in this article were based on the main hypothesis that interpersonal neglect on Facebook
would have a negative impact on users psychological needs. For the first study, the authors
designed the experiment based on past research, which demonstrated that the quality of social
relationship was a better predictor of a person s experience of

evolution in any state funded school. Although Scopes was unsure he taught evolution, he

It s the loneliest feeling in the world to find yourself standing up when everybody else is sitting
down...I know. I know what it feels like... This is completely true, the worst feeling in the world
is finding those who have greeted you with open arms have now turned away leaving only cold
stares. Drummond understands this from his own experience, he was not welcomed in the
town as Brady was and seen as the devil by a young girl. It is ironic to see people who have
based their lives on loving one another and saying that every person was made in the image of
their god, yet when a single person turns slightly away from this practice they call down on
hellfire. The place they try to protect each other from now they try to cast a good man caring
towards, caring less if they be blood of my blood, and flesh of my flesh. Even Brady sees this
and responds with ...it is possible to be overzealous, to destroy that which you hope to save so
that nothing is left but emptiness. It is incredible how quickly humans can be fixated on their
ideas, leaving no room for progress or discussion. The fear of having the only ideas they
understand be challenged and their only defense is to turn themselves into what they loath. They
are willing to throw a teacher into prison instead of opening to a new way of thinking that could

Mission Statement and Acceptable Use Policy at Wuhan Foreign Languages School
This paper evaluates the mission statement at Wuhan Foreign Languages School (WFLS). It also
attempts to examine the technology mission statement, however, WFLS does not have one.
Consequently, this paper suggests one for WFLS. The technology mission statement should also be
interpreted as a guide for integrating technology into the school and classroom. Finally, this paper
evaluates the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) of WFLS, and also offers suggestions for improving it
and further aligning it with the mission statement of the school.

Additionally, it s painted on a wall in the building with all the teachers offices, and on another

appears on the school website. It is visible to everyone, and probably most people are at least
aware of it, but beyond that, it is undetermined how well it is actually communicated to people. If
these were the only ways, it is effortless overlook.
The mission statement does not reflect on anything regarding ethical or legal practices. However,
again based on Chinese culture, these would be assumed or overlooked. In Chinese culture, it
seems that reputation and results are more important than legal and ethical practices, not that
everyone or every business is illegal or corrupt. But regarding education, parents are much more
concerned that their child be given every advantage possible over the millions of other children,
and attending a school that has a reputation of students achieving high exam scores or being given
opportunities to go abroad for college are much more relevant and imperative to them than ethical
or legal practices.
WFLS Technology Mission Statement

How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a
structural functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can
help physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a
school not only build friendships between team members, but could also give them that
competitive edge to become better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to
continue playing basketball for a school, he ll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to
keep the grades above average. Academically, at a collegelevel, basketball is a good and bad thing.
Majority of universities pay attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades,
just to ensure the schools success.

A Dilemma and My Solution Based On Utilitarianism Ethical Model
(Assignment # 1)

Part 1: Utilitarianism Ethical Model
Many people from all walks of life have trouble making decisions in their everyday lives,
especially on tough or critical situations that may even involve life and death considerations. To
address this issue, there are four ethical models and four ethical principles developed as guidance
in making decisions in an ethical way. One of the four ethical models is the Utilitarianism. This
model is based on the principle that the best decision is the one that gives benefits to most or
causes harm to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So long as a course of action produces maximum benefits for everyone, utilitarianism does not care
whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or coercion (Manuel Velasquez, 1989).
Utilitarianism ethics has two types. One is act utilitarianism and the other is rule utilitarianism. Act
utilitarianism conforms to the description of utilitarianism mentioned above while rule
utilitarianism considers also the adherence to the law and fairness of the decision. A rule utilitarian
seeks to benefit the most people but through the fairest and most just means available. Therefore,
added benefits of rule utilitarianism are that it values justice and includes beneficence at the same
time (Rainbow). However, utilitarianism (both act and rule) has numerous flaws like in all other
theories. First, there is uncertainty as to the outcome which is the basis of the decision. Outcomes
maybe inferred from life experiences or from logical evaluations but no one can be certain of the
actual outcome in the future. Wrong prediction of the outcomes resulting to less benefit or more
harm, makes the utilitarian decision as unethical. Second, predicted outcomes of different nature
like money (tangible) against happiness (intangible) are not really comparable, making a quantified
advantage of the other is debatable. Last but not the least, there

Aztec Beliefs On Death And The Afterlife
Aztec view of the afterlife and its significance was the driving force of their life. Aztecs strongly
believed in an afterlife. The journey to the afterlife entailed many things. It was believed that the
way you died decided how your afterlife would go, not the way you lived. If you didn t die in the
specific ways which sent you to specific gods, you would go through the nine levels hell; in the
ninth you would serve for eternity. They are not places of bliss or damnation, merely multiple
levels of existence divided in purpose.

The human heart: abode to the substance of human life, known as the teyolia. The teyolia was
affiliated with the world above the earth, it is also the only spirit to travel to the afterlife. The

human brain: abode of the drive of love and heat, known as tonalli. The tonalli was affiliated
with the highest heavens of creation. The brain was turned to ashes and put in a box with a tuft
of hair to be kept by the family. The human liver: abode to courage, the soul and the engine of
passions, but also the force of cold. This was known as ihiyotl. Ihiyotl was dispersed after death

help keep humanity alive. (Ian Mursell)

But before we get into why that is, I want to talk a little bit about wasps versus bees.

Honeybees couldn t make their hives out of paper even if they wanted to, because they lack the
proper mouthparts, but that s cool because they have way better building materials on hand.
They secrete a durable, waxy substance from their abdomens and with it construct the hexagonal
honeycomb cells they use to store honey and pollen, and raise larvae.
These hives are sturdy and perennial. They re built to last for years, and even when one becomes
overcrowded and half the colony leaves to start a new hive, the rest remain, many of them
overwintering in the hive.
And honey bee colonies are huge supporting tens of thousands of members, in part because it takes
that many to accumulate the estimated 60 pounds of honey they ll need to get through the winter.
Most wasp colonies tend to be a lot smaller, and some paper wasp nests hold fewer than 100
individuals. Aside from the queen, wasps may only live a few weeks, and as predators they don t
really store food for any real length of time.
Basically their nests need only provide shelter for a season s worth of offspring, at least in

Why Is Hamlet Not To Revenge
To Revenge or Not To Revenge
Hamlet, a play written by Shakespeare, is the tragic story of young Hamlet bent on taking a bloody
revenge for the unjust murder of his late father, King Hamlet. Several times throughout the play,
Hamlet seems reluctant to carry on with his plot for revenge, and often questions why he is
struggling with this plot so much. Through Hamlet s hesitation, Shakespeare portrays that revenge
may not always be the right answer, this is then confirmed by the deaths of innocents due to Hamlet
s plot for revenge.
Polonius s death marks the first of many unnecessary deaths, and although Hamlet feels no guilt
after murdering him, the death is still unjustifiable and wrong. After Polonius has been stabbed,
Hamlet says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell!/ I took thee for thy better: take thy

her (1.5.86 89). In these lines, the Ghost is saying to not hurt Queen Gertrude and that Heaven will
deal with her when the time comes. Although Hamlet heeds this advice through nearly all of the
play, he eventually lets the Ghost down in the closing scene where Hamlet avenges his father but
kills Gertrude in the process. Although Hamlet did not directly kill Gertrude, his revenge is the
fundamental reason her life came to an end. Had Hamlet not taken a vow for revenge, Claudius
would not have had to save himself by attempting to kill Hamlet with poison, and therefore not

Some people believe that banning guns will solve all shootings, but personally I believe it will
not solve the whole problem of shootings. I believe guns should be kept out of hands of young
children. Every family who has purchased a gun should tell their children about the dangerous
of a gun, not to scare them but to explain a gun to them. I believe if parents do not explain the
importance of a gun to the children at a young age, they will grow up wondering what it does
and how it work, which could hurt them or someone else. I was told from a very young age not
to touch a gun without my dad or mom s help, they did this so if I wanted to hunt with my dad I

The Tragedy Of Medea By Euripides
Medea
The characters in Medea by Euripides have no free will; the gods control all. Consequently, the
concept, Divine Double Bind, described by the author Ruth Padel in Whom Gods Destroy as
Divinity issues prohibitions (do not kill your mother), forces you to break them, then punishes
you for doing so (215) explains perfectly the actions and ultimate fates of Medea, Jason, King
Creon and his daughter, the chorus leader, and the two sons. Many of Medea s actions, which
offend the gods, and the subsequent consequences for such actions throughout the story exhibit the
Divine Double Blind concept. Medea starts off by offending the gods when, according to Jason,
Medea s husband, she slaughtered [her] brother in [her] home (81), and then, as is explained by the
nurse, Medea s servant, she causes Pelias daughter to kill their father (32). Medea s first misdeed
is thus murder, and although it is through Medea s actions that these crimes are committed,
because the gods control all the mortals, the gods are actually the ones who made her do them.
Sticking with the Divine Double Blind concept, the gods punish Medea by having her marriage
to Jason fall apart. The nurse recites that their fine love s grown sick, diseased, for Jason . . .
married the daughter of king Creon (32). Jason has neglected Medea and married another woman,
which Medea responds to with rage. She kills again, this time targeting Jason s new wife and her
father, King Creon. Medea has her

whether to let Khrushchev and Castro know his plan. If he had let them know, the Soviet Union

The Physics in Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport that originated in the St. Lawrence Valley area, around 1546. It is
played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a
contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the
stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles,
and anywhere between 100 and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed
of ten players each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the
field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. In this essay I will focus on the physics that
stand behind lacrosse, and how companies that make lacrosse gear use our knowledge and
understanding of forces to make padding and helmets that are safer, and sticks that are made for
different kinds of play styles (contact defense, precision, fast offense...).

The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket of the

are teaching vocabulary, concrete representational abstract method and graphic organization. The
teaching vocabulary is very important when it comes to solving a problem in mathematics this is
because a studentmust understand the content of the problem in order to solve. Not only knowing
the content, but knowing the difference between the vocabulary. For example, knowing the
difference between addition and subtraction. If a student does not know the different between both,
the problem will be incorrect. A teacher must teach a student the vocabulary in their classroom.
They should use the first 10 to 15 minutes reviewing any vocabulary that would be used that day. In
addition, they should provide examples for each word. For example, if they are explaining a
program they should define the words they are using to refresh the students who are lost and
confuse during the lecture. The benefits of using this strategie with Sam is that every time Sam sits
down in class he would be able to have his mind refreshed. A lot of students believe their student
know the material, therefore, they continue teaching. However, if Sam has his mind refreshed every
time he goes to class he has a opportunity to understand the material. Moreover, if the teacher
explains the vocabulary with a problem, Sam

Big Dipper Research Paper
The Big Dipper itself isn t a constellation but classified as an asterism. An asterism is a prominent
pattern or group of stars. The big dipper is a part of constellation Ursa Major. Ursa major is the
third largest constellation of all eighty eight. Ursa Major, the big dipper, has greatest number of
stars compared to other constellations.
The big dipper asterism is also known as the plough. The big dipper asterism forms less than half of
the entire constellation Ursa Major. The big dipper a part of the Ursa Major constellation was
discovered in 1869 by astronomer Richard A. Proctor. He realized that all of the big dippers stars
except Eta, have proper motions heading toward the constellation Sagittarius.
The big dipper within Ursa Major represents The great bear. It is recognized as a distinct

The Economy Of The United States
Among economists, we all speculate what will happen to an economy in the future. Who will be
the next United States? Right now, the United States has the largest economy in the world and
one the highest gross domestic products per person. People are speculating that countries like
China and India will one day have an economy that makes America s look small. By looking at
China s growth in gross domestic product, that very well could be a reality someday. Could Russia
one day have an economy that rivals that of the United States? Russia, like the rest of the world, is
in a time where their economy is stagnating. After several years of growth that looked promising,
the Russians saw their economy drop almost 25% during the Great Recession. Even though the
Russians rebounded quickly, with a GDP increase of 65% from 2009 to 2013, they re back down
roughly 7%1. So while I believe the Russian can have a good, growing economy, it doesn t look
like they ll ever have an economy that rivals in size or in gross domestic product per person.
First, since all economists love gross domestic product, here s a look at the Russian Federation s
real gross domestic product. From looking at this graph above, you can see that while the
Russians initially saw positivism in the economy immediately following the Great Recession,
growth slowed in 2012 and 2013, and started to decline in 2014. While the Great Recession was a
worldwide disaster that struck nearly every first world country,

  • 2. The Juvenile Justice System Essay 1.Name four problems that existed with the juvenile justice system in the early 19thcentury. The juvenile justice system was subject to a lot of corruption and civil rights violations in its early stages. Juveniles did not have the same rights as adults and could be forced into terrible living or working conditions. With no child labor laws, delinquent juveniles could be sentenced to forced labor in factories or to houses of refuge. With the ruling of Ex Parte Crouse, the state took ultimate responsibility of children and send them to these institutions, even against the will of the parents. Some of these institutions, such as houses of refuge may have started with good intention, but they ultimately led to rampart corruption and abuse of juveniles. 2.Which type of children and young people did Reform Schools focus on working with? Houses of Refuge were intended for which type of juveniles? Reform schools formed to take custody of wayward or incorrigible children that the state deemed necessary. A child could be taken from their parents and sent to a reform school if it is deemed that the parents are not providing a good enough home for them. Houses of refuge were designed to get juveniles out of the adult system. It was proven that locking up youths with criminals was a bad idea for multiple reasons, so houses of refuge were formed to separate them. They were designed for those juveniles that the state deemed savable, and those seen as to far gone would be sent to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The New Liberal Arts Anh Pham English 101 The New Liberal Arts is an article written by Sanford J. Ungar, who is a president of Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. In the beginning of his article, Ungar wrote, Hard economic times inevitably bring scrutiny of all accepted ideals and institutions, and this time around the liberal arts education has been especially hard hit. In other words, Ungar means that recent economic recessions have made a huge impact on what people think of going for a liberal arts degree. In his essay, Ungar lists seven misperceptions and how he reacts to them. The most common misperception that Ungar identified is that liberal arts degrees are no longer affordable. The cost for liberal arts education is very expensive while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wrote, The career bandwagon seems to suggest that shortcuts are available to students that lead directly to high paying jobs leaving out frills like learning how to write and speak well, how to understand the nuances of literacy texts and scientific concepts, how to collaborate with others on research What he means by that is there is no shortcuts to a high paying jobs. He also implies that liberal arts education is the only right way to prepare an individual for their future career because it equips ones with the abilities to write and speak formally, and understandings on scientific matter or how to cooperate with other people for your work, etc. However, I do not think he can deny the fact that the starting salary for a liberal arts graduate is approximately $32,500 while for an engineer is $75,000, (http://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome /salary/). For instant, what can a person possibly do with his philosophy degree right after graduating? He will probably have to go for more schooling before he can find a high paying job at some big firms or he will have to struggle a lot before he can open his philosophy shop or publish his book. In short, a liberal arts degree will take longer to see its worth than career education or vocational training. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Postpartum Depression And The Depression The postpartum time period is depicted as a joyful time for mothers, but in some cases it can be a time of calamity (Jevitt, Groer, Crist, Gonzalez, Wagner, 2012). Postpartum Depression (PPD) in women after childbirth is a common occurrence. It happens in all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic statuses. PPD is a severe depression that affects mothers after childbirth. It involves serious depression, sadness, and loneliness. Cheryl Tatano Beck is a nursing theorist who is known for her work and research with postpartum depression and the development of the Postpartum Depression Screening Scale (PDSS) and the development of the Postpartum Depression Predictors Inventory (PDPI) (Alligood, 2014). She began her focus on obstetrical nursing after she graduated from Western Connecticut State University in 1970 (Alligood, 2014). Beck s focus was first on studying women in labor and fetal monitoring (Alligood, 2014). She then moved to studying and researching PPD. Beck noticed that there was not much research done on the disorder (Alligood, 2014). Beck wrote her theory called teetering on the edge, as part of her doctorate thesis is 1993 (Alligood, 2014). This thesis focused on the importance of different risk factors and concepts regarding postpartum depression and is the foundation of her theory. Foundations of the Theory Beck s theory on Postpartum Depression is strongly based upon many other theorists work. She emphasizes the importance of Jean Watson s caring ... • 5. A Wrinkle In Time Quotes Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it yourself. It is not that far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. Perhaps it is everywhere on water and land. Walt Whitman. In other words, you can not make others do everything for you because when you re alone you won t have them to rely on for guidance or to comfort you, sometimes you just have to do it yourself. You may already have what you need, or you may need to search or work towards it. Meg Murryfrom the novel A Wrinkle in Time can relate to this quote in many ways, she struggles with doing stuff by herself, instead of relying on others. Meg the protagonist of the novel has countless attributes and characteristics that show who she is, have helped her change as a person, and throughout her journey also including helping her achieve heroic acts . 2 Meg is a young self critical person that is constantly criticizing herself and being negative. Everyone tells her how she will be alright and how everything will work out, but she completely disagrees and thinks she is dumb, ugly, over emotional, a delinquent, and a person that everyone hates, except for her family For example Meg said, I don t want him to grow up to be dumb like me. (p11) An another example is A delinquent, that s what I am, she thought grimly. (p6) Seemingly, Meg has a great lack of confidence, does not fit in and is very unsure about everything. The human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNAbase pairs, and it is estimated that the entire human genomeconsists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). Fast forwarding to 1995, where the human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the sequence of the first human chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed. • 17. Edna St. Vincent Millay And William Shakespeare s Sonnet... Edna St. Vincent Millay and William Shakespeare both deal with the concept of time in Sonnet and Sonnet 30 . Millay s sonnet focuses on how time affects a person through aging while Shakespeare s sonnet focuses on the idea that the duration of time can be beneficial in providing comfort to overcome one s grief. Although written in two different time periods the two writers have similar writing styles, such as the use of word choice, poetic techniques, and literary devices to further portray the theme and effect of time. In Sonnetthe opening line, That built the child and hardened the soft bone (2), demonstrates the beginning of life and the beginning of one s life journey, indicating the sonnet will discuss the course of the speaker s life. In Shakespeare s Sonnet 30 the speaker remembers former times in his life, specifically the things past (2). He, the speaker of the sonnet, is attempting to bring up moments that happened in his prior life when his friend played a great role in it. Within the first two lines of Sonnet and Sonnet 30, the difference of the interpretation of time is visible. Shakespeare s Sonnet 30 focuses on the positive outcome, the feeling of comfort, from a situation in the past while Millay s sonnet focuses on the negative outcome, aging, from a situation in the future. Sonnet by Edna St. Vincent Millayuses imagery to describe the aging of a once young and healthy individual. She, the speaker, is aging needing the assistance and aid of the cane...and the special chair (12). Her physical appearance and physical needs demonstrate how time is playing a negative roll on her externally. Sonnet 30 uses imagery to showcase the positive effect time has on one internally. When the speaker says, I summon up remembrance of things past (2) it can be inferred that the speaker s friend is currently far from the speaker, whether it be in an afterlife world, or simply in a different city. Sonnet 30 portrays time as helpful and kind because when the speaker thinks of his friend from the past, All losses are restored and sorrows end. Course Section: GNED212 091 Instructor:Mr. Paul B. Class:Friday Afternoons Part 1: Utilitarianism Ethical Model Many people from all walks of life have trouble making decisions in their everyday lives, especially on tough or critical situations that may even involve life and death considerations. To address this issue, there are four ethical models and four ethical principles developed as guidance in making decisions in an ethical way. One of the four ethical models is the Utilitarianism. So long as a course of action produces maximum benefits for everyone, utilitarianism does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or coercion (Manuel Velasquez, 1989). Utilitarianism ethics has two types. One is act utilitarianism and the other is rule utilitarianism. Act utilitarianism conforms to the description of utilitarianism mentioned above while rule utilitarianism considers also the adherence to the law and fairness of the decision. A rule utilitarian seeks to benefit the most people but through the fairest and most just means available. Therefore, added benefits of rule utilitarianism are that it values justice and includes beneficence at the same time (Rainbow). However, utilitarianism (both act and rule) has numerous flaws like in all other theories. First, there is uncertainty as to the outcome which is the basis of the decision. Outcomes maybe inferred from life experiences or from logical evaluations but no one can be certain of the actual outcome in the future. Wrong prediction of the outcomes resulting to less benefit or more harm, makes the utilitarian decision as unethical. Second, predicted outcomes of different nature like money (tangible) against happiness (intangible) are not really comparable, making a quantified advantage of the other is debatable. Last but not the least, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But before we get into why that is, I want to talk a little bit about wasps versus bees. First up, you should know that yellowjackets and hornets are basically types of wasps. These hives are sturdy and perennial. They re built to last for years, and even when one becomes overcrowded and half the colony leaves to start a new hive, the rest remain, many of them overwintering in the hive. And honey bee colonies are huge supporting tens of thousands of members, in part because it takes that many to accumulate the estimated 60 pounds of honey they ll need to get through the winter. Most wasp colonies tend to be a lot smaller, and some paper wasp nests hold fewer than 100 individuals. • 33. Why Is Hamlet Not To Revenge To Revenge or Not To Revenge Hamlet, a play written by Shakespeare, is the tragic story of young Hamlet bent on taking a bloody revenge for the unjust murder of his late father, King Hamlet. Several times throughout the play, Hamlet seems reluctant to carry on with his plot for revenge, and often questions why he is struggling with this plot so much. Through Hamlet s hesitation, Shakespeare portrays that revenge may not always be the right answer, this is then confirmed by the deaths of innocents due to Hamlet s plot for revenge. Polonius s death marks the first of many unnecessary deaths, and although Hamlet feels no guilt after murdering him, the death is still unjustifiable and wrong. After Polonius has been stabbed, Hamlet says, Thou wretched, rash, intruding fool, farewell!/ I took thee for thy better: take thy fortune;/ Thou find st to be too busy is some danger (4.4.32 33). I believe if parents do not explain the importance of a gun to the children at a young age, they will grow up wondering what it does and how it work, which could hurt them or someone else. • 35. The Tragedy Of Medea By Euripides Medea The characters in Medea by Euripides have no free will; the gods control all. Consequently, the concept, Divine Double Bind, described by the author Ruth Padel in Whom Gods Destroy as Divinity issues prohibitions (do not kill your mother), forces you to break them, then punishes you for doing so (215) explains perfectly the actions and ultimate fates of Medea, Jason, King Creon and his daughter, the chorus leader, and the two sons. Many of Medea s actions, which offend the gods, and the subsequent consequences for such actions throughout the story exhibit the Divine Double Blind concept. Medea starts off by offending the gods when, according to Jason, Medea s husband, she slaughtered [her] brother in [her] home (81), and then, as is explained by the nurse, Medea s servant, she causes Pelias daughter to kill their father (32). Medea s first misdeed is thus murder, and although it is through Medea s actions that these crimes are committed, because the gods control all the mortals, the gods are actually the ones who made her do them. Sticking with the Divine Double Blind concept, the gods punish Medea by having her marriage to Jason fall apart. The nurse recites that their fine love s grown sick, diseased, for Jason . . . married the daughter of king Creon (32). If he had let them know, the Soviet Union could have responded earlier by striking against Berlin or their bases in Turkey. However, if it would be a surprise attack many people would be killed, equalling to further conflict. Kennedy reasoned it would not be a good idea due to the fact it was impulsive and the consequences would be drastic. The Joints Chiefs of Staff added that a surprise air strike would lead to an invasion.Although the air strike proposal was done for, the Joints Chief of Staff argued against the blockade debating that it would be inefficient and useless. Not only did they mention that the blockade would not remove the missiles for the simple fact that they were already there, but they also pointed out that doing so would cause the Soviet Union to do it also. Forcing the removal of the missiles would mean the United States would have to remove their missiles surrounding the Soviet Union too, or so they thought. It is played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles, and anywhere between 100 and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed of ten players each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. Head of the Lacrosse Stick Field Lacrosse Head Box Lacrosse Head Native American Lacrosse Head The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket of the Lacrosse stick affects how the ball comes out of the stick. During a shot the kinetic energy of the shaft is transferred into the head, which in turn stretches the mesh (elastic energy), and transfers it to the ball as k. energy. The possible strategies that may be used on Sams case are teaching vocabulary, concrete representational abstract method and graphic organization. The teaching vocabulary is very important when it comes to solving a problem in mathematics this is because a studentmust understand the content of the problem in order to solve. Not only knowing the content, but knowing the difference between the vocabulary. For example, knowing the difference between addition and subtraction. If a student does not know the different between both, the problem will be incorrect. A teacher must teach a student the vocabulary in their classroom. They should use the first 10 to 15 minutes reviewing any vocabulary that would be used that day. In addition, they should provide examples for each word. For example, if they are explaining a program they should define the words they are using to refresh the students who are lost and confuse during the lecture. The benefits of using this strategie with Sam is that every time Sam sits down in class he would be able to have his mind refreshed. A lot of students believe their student know the material, therefore, they continue teaching.
