Working With Parents
In your opinion, why is the parent partnership important in the education of a student?
Research has clearly proven that student achievement improves when parents are involved in their
child s education (2010). When an education system comes together with the family of their
students, the children tend to have a better understanding of the importance of school and working
their best to become as educated as they can be. Students who have not involved parents may feel
that they are at school only to be away from their parents. There are many reasons why children
drop out of school so it is the job of the school system and families to do whatever it takes to get the
student involved in their education. Once the student knows that everyone around them is
supporting their educational needs they are more likely to have a positive outlook towards school.
When they then become a parent they are more likely willing to be a partner in their future children
s educational experiences because of their positive attitude towards learning.
Why do you believe that some parents are reluctant to be involved in the educational process? ...

One major reason that I feel that parents are reluctant to work with schools is that they do not
trust the schools to do what is best for their child. Parents must believe and trust that the teacher
and school genuinely care about and are willing to do whatever is necessary to help their child
(2010). Once a school loses the trust of parents it is hard to build it up again. Parents may also
come into a school with a feeling of distrust because of their own educational experience. It is the
job of the school to try and work on every parental relationship and build the trust

Our Earth s Sixth Mass Extinction
Throughout the longevity of our Earth s biota, there are recorded times in which the majority of the
pre living fauna and flora were seemingly decimated. According to our fossil record, these bouts of
decimation have totaled to five individual instances throughout the existence of life on Earth. Many
scientists agree in saying that, humans as speciesare the main cause for current sixth mass extinction
. Some opponents to this theory claim that label of our worldwide ecological state as a sixth mass
extinction , is just an emotional charge that makes the problem seem cosmic and overwhelming
(Brand). This however is not a legitimate statement when taking into account the sheer magnitude
of humaninvolvement and activities that has added... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many would argue this feat to be a sign of Homo sapiens knack to survive, but in actuality we
survived on the backs of other species (figuratively of course) while in the process of wiping
many of them out. One of the earliest instances of extinction caused by humans was from our
ancestors about 12,000 20,000 years ago. When just coming into our prime as the lead predators of
the Earth, humans began to have an impact on hundreds of the surrounding fauna indirectly it
seems. According to radiocarbon dating of the fossils of the two meter tall flightless bird
commonly known as the Great Moa, indicate that they became extinct soon after humans arrived.
(Avise 219) Though our ancestors had no notion of conservation or ecological awareness, humans
as a species cannot displace the blame towards anything but to ourselves. Some believe that the
many mega fauna (exceedingly large animals) that went extinct when humans first started to hunt
more rapidly, due to population size growth, went extinct due to changes in climate not by human
interference. This notion is completely farce. It has been proven through fossil records that the
degree in climate change right before those species went extinct were very similar to the current
amount of climate change now. This being said, we don t see such a massive decline in the
present mega fauna today as there seems to have been in the past. The statistics gained from Robert

Research Paper On Aladdin Jr.
Aladdin Jr: A Personal Response Aladdin Jr. is the 13th play I have been in. Being in this show
is a very bittersweet experience for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is that I am about to
age out of being able to perform with the company, Alamance Childrens Theater (ACT). The
second reason is this will be the last playthat I will ever get to work on with my best friend again.
That being said, I have been giving my all to this show to make it the very best it can be. In this
play I am one of the Harem girls, also one of the featured dancers. When I found out I was going
to be a featured dancer, I laughed because I was the last person I thought they would pick for that
part, but they did. This show is based on the Disney movie

Substance Abuse In Nursing Home
Most government controlled homes do not get sufficient funds, so they lack trained workers and
necessary equipment. Still, they get more help and don t prioritize money, which results in better
quality service. Chains and for profit companies use a system of rewards and sanctions for
managers and board of directors, executives must prioritize shareholder value which may
compromise other goals such as quality (Harrington 786). Another issue is that many nursing homes
use antipsychoticdrugs but often times they administer them illegally, harming the patients. It was
found in a recent study that 41% of patients use antipsychotics for a long period of time. The push
by pharmaceutical companies to market their products can sometimes be the reason... Show more

Comparing the Reaction of Franklin D. Roosevelt and...
Comparing the Reaction of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover to the Great Depression
The year was 1929. America goes through the biggest national crisis since the American Civil War.
They called it the Great Depression. The Stock Market was going down, unemployment was going
up, and money was becoming scarce. The United States had to look up to the one person who could
lead the country out of this national catastrophe, The President. At this time the man who had that
title was none other than Herbert Hoover. Hoover, A republican, hoped that this was all a nightmare,
he hoped that the Depression was a small fluke that would fix itself after a short period of time.
After seeing that the Depression was getting worse had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also Hoover would not, under any circumstances, allow America to be in debt. He thought that
taping into the national debt would prolong the depression even make it worse since the
government would have to pay interest on the loans. Hoover was a man set on his ways and helped
very little with the Depression.
In Roosevelt s inaugural address he declared war on the Depression and asks for an expansion on
his powers. When Roosevelt took over the office he summoned Congress to work out his
recovery plan. This is a period called the First Hundred Days and contained a program called the
First new Deal. Roosevelt started by putting poorly managed banks under control of the Treasury
Department and set standards required for someone to start up a bank. This helped people to
trust the banking system and caused people to put money into the banking system. Roosevelt
also created the FDIC, which guaranteed bank deposits. Roosevelt later started many agencies
known as the alphabet agencies . Some of which are the AAA, NIRA, PWA, CCC, TVA, SEC.
All of the agencies were created to provide government jobs or help out the situation of the low
prices of farm product. Roosevelt believed in the idea of experimentation. He thought that the
government should always be doing something, and if an idea doesn t work than it should be
replaced with something else. Roosevelt was able to get the American people on his side by

The Black Friday Takeover Essay
Mommy, why didn t I get what I wanted for Thanksgiving this year? This question seems absurd in
a modern day context, but in the future, it could be a question that is asked much too often. With
holiday themed advertisements in the media and holiday discount deals already visible on the
shelves, it is no wonder that Black Fridayand the holiday shopping season are creeping up closer
and closer to Thanksgiving. Black Friday is a popular phrase used to describe the chaotic shopping
frenzy that takes place every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In recent years, the chaos of
this so called holiday has only escalated; consumers are trampling one another to get the best deals,
and retailers are scrambling to keep up with their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Thanksgiving celebrations today are still centered around getting together with family
and friends and giving thanks. The term Black Friday was first used, according to US News
Digital Weekly, in 1869 in reference to a stock market crash on the day after Thanksgiving that
year. US News Digital Weekly says that it was again used in 1951 to describe the high number
of workers that skipped work that day. Eventually, employers started giving workers the day
after Thanksgiving as a vacation day. In turn, many of the workers used this day to start their
shopping for the holiday season, making the day after the Thanksgiving a day that many stores
started making huge profits. If a business has a profitable market, they are considered in the
black . This is likely what brought about the modern meaning of the phrase Black Friday.
However, it wasn t until 2004 that Black Friday was officially considered the biggest shopping
day of the year...according to data from retail analyst ShopperTrak, (Tozzi). Today, stores
everywhere have Black Friday sales with almost comically low prices on merchandise to entice
potential customers and drive them away from competing stores.
Recently, America s obsession with Black Friday has generated various opinions on the day itself,
its proximity to Thanksgiving, and the morality of the holiday shopping season. Many view
Thanksgiving as a sacred holiday and are appalled that retailers would even consider the idea of

Many myths exist concerning the eyes and proper care. For example, easing carrots will help an
individual have good eyesight, yet many other factors also play a role in the health of one s eyes.
Sitting too close to the television won t hurt the eyes either, although many believe doing so will
damage their eyesight. When visiting an optometrist, it s best to discuss any concerns you may
have about your eyes. Your doctor examines the eyes and can provide you individualized
information that will be of benefit to you. Although you may be experiencing one or more problems
similar to those a friend or family member is, your body is unique, thus you need information
specific to you, and your optometrist can provide that information, Dr. Simmons continues.
Understanding the difference between an optometrist and an opthalmologist is of great importance.
An optometrist conducts full vision exams and prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, among
other things. He or she may also provide medical optometry services. An opthalmologist sees
patients in need of medical eye treatment and surgeries. Vision Institute employs doctors of both
types to best meet the needs of their

The battle had a number of lessons for the British. The senior officers had little idea how to conduct
a battle with any degree of sophistication. Howe learnt his mistake in making a frontal assault. At
every subsequent battle, where possible he carried out flanking assaults. The British troops were
indisciplined and disorganised. The guns for which the wrong ammunition was provided were
almost certainly battalion weapons manned by foot rather than Royal Artillery.
For both sides Bunker Hill was the start of a journey in military education.

The Deaf in Society Essay
The Deaf Community
Imagine if you could never experience the sound of your favorite song on the radio. Or you
could never hear the voice of a family member wishing you happy birthday. Since these
situations are typical we may take them for granted. But these every day scenarios will never be
part of a deaf person s life. One out of thousand infants will be born deaf every year, (Deaf
Understanding). Most people don t realize the giant impact of the deaf in our society. Deaf persons
can be any race, gender and position in society. They can be scientists, doctors, or many other
professions. Since the occurrence of deafness is so high in our society we all must learn how to
communicate affectivity with the deaf community.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Association of the Deaf, individuals who can t hear would rather be
called either deaf or hard of hearing, (Deaf Net). The term hearing impaired are sometimes
offensive to deaf individuals because it focuses on what they aren t able to do. It is important to
understand if you agree with either pathological or cultural views so you can communicate with the
deaf community affectively.
Another reason why everyone should be respectful and patient with the deaf community is
because they might join it one day. In some cases individuals may lose their sense of hearing due
to accidents or medical conditions. Also, individuals may one day be faced with having a child
who is deaf. 93 percent of deaf children are born into hearing families and only 7 percent are born
into deaf families, (NAD). These statistics prove that no one is exempt to the possibility of having
a child who is deaf. Therefore, we must all be helpful, respectful and patient. We should never
exclude anyone due to their differences.
There are many ways to increase your ability to communicate with the deaf community. Obviously,
learning Sign Language is a very important factor in interacting with deaf individuals. Each country
s deaf community develops its own Sign Language. For example American Sign Language is a
different language then South African Sign Language. This means they use different signs to

Bedford Researcher s Argument Essay
According to the Bedford Researcher, there are different ways for writers to get reader agreement
into their ideas. For long time ago, writer used these methods to express their thoughts, and
information develops an argument successfully ending with the reader agreement.
The First method appeals to authority. This means the writer support an argument with a theory
from an expert or a specialist person. In addition, it could be from the people who affected by an
issue. This evidence usually takes quotation, paraphrasing or summaries form.
Second, appeals to emotion. The meaning of that is making the reader think with their heart more
than their mind. This method makes the readers see the issue or problem in a different way. That
strategy plays in the reader emotions to get their agreement toward an issue. ... Show more content

This means readers already have beliefs or thought the writer use it to get their agreement about
issues. Using this technique is dangerous because it depend on a hypothesis that readers value or
believe. For example, religious and ethical usually based on individuals value. To use this method
writer must be sure about the readers values and believes.
Forth, appeals to a character. To explain that, trust me author used scientists or philosophers
background experience to tell the reader that they had the same experience, and they are honest.
Then the reader will agree and trust.
Finally, appeals to logic. This method rely on developing reasons and facts using logical thinking to
end up with ideas to support the writer arguments.

Unlocking Youth Detention
Education and Training Key to Unlocking Youth Detention Crisis
Australia s juvenile detention system is breaking apart. It s time we started seeing our wayward
youth as young people needing support and rehabilitation rather than merely callous criminals to be
punitively punished, degraded and demeaned writes Anna Tran.
A child is beaten and bashed, bruised and battered to the point where he can no longer stand on his
own. It gets worse, much worse. He is teargassed and stripped, hooded and strapped into a
restraining chair. The scene could come straight out of Abu Ghraib Prisonor Guantanamo Bay; in
fact it comes out of our very own youth detention centres on Australian soil.
The world was shocked and Australians shamed when scenes like these were recently broadcast
from the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Darwin. Young Australians, under the care of the
State, have been systematically abused, demeaned and degraded in the very institutions built to re
educate and rehabilitate so that they will not reoffend. It s time we took responsibility for our
young offenders and provided them with the knowledge and positive life skills to make it on the

Core Aeration
How Can Core Aeration in Lexington KY Benefit You?
Soil needs to breathe under the surface of vegetation, and when we talk about that, we talk about
aeration. Everything that is living needs oxygen for combustion of fuel to procure energy, for the
preservation of life. Therefore, it becomes very crucial to take care of the lawn soil, in order to
facilitate the beauty of the landscape. Lawn aeration could be as simple as removing chunks of soil
around the plant or digging holes to allow oxygen, fertilizers, and water to enter the soil. In
technical terms, it is just soil cultivation which has to be done in order to aerate the lawn.
How could one be benefitted from aeration?
Removing weed, unwanted growth, digging the soil and perforation, are all processes involved in

Baseball is a true team sport .
Sabermetrics, the statistical method applied by Bean and his acquaintance Paul DePodesta
deviated from these overused and overvalued measures, and focused on team players, not
volatile superstars (Moneyball). Sabermetrics revolved around the analysis of undervalued
statistics primarily on base percentage, the number of times a player swings at the first pitch, and
the average number of pitches per at bat a player sees (Moneyball). With this tactic, Billy Beane
and the Oakland Athletics were able to win many more games than they would have if they were
constrained by overvalued players. Beane was able to use this ingenious method of statistical
analysis to discern the unique talents of undervalued players that did not meet the statistical criteria
of big market teams. With a very specifically assembled team, whereby some players were even
forced to switch positions, the Oakland Athletics had seemed to overcome the odds.
A prime example of the potential success of sabermetrics was seen in a player named Scott
Hatteberg. Hatteberg spent most of his career lingering around the Boston Red Sox organization as
a catcher both in the minor leagues and in the major leagues (Moneyball). Hatteberg was seen as a
very average catcher and hitter throughout the big leagues. He did his job well enough, however he
did not stand out in popular statistical categories such as homeruns and RBIs. Unacknowledged by
the Red Sox, however,

Orchestra Performance Review
Mozart and Part Orchestra Festival Review
The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, recently hosted Gustavo Dudamel and the
Philharmonic choir for a four day orchestra event, running from 19th 22nd may 2016, to showcase
Mozart s Requiem and Avro part s Miserere. The event was a unique experience that gave me the
chance to sample the work of two of the best known music composers. Both Mozart and Part are
renowned for transparency and sonic beauty in their music which unfolds effortlessly and naturally
and I knew this was going to be a great experience for the audience and performers alike.

Norm Violation Essay
I believe what Garfinkel means in background assumptions is how we commonly go throughout
the day and the order we do things in. In my norm violation I am going to not follow the order
my culture eats dinner in. The norm violation I decided to do is ordering dessert first at a
restaurant. This is a norm violation because you are suppose to order your appetizer first, then
your entree and lastly your dessert. I decided that Fender s Diner would be an excellent place to
do my experiment. I dine here a good bit and usually order their salads so this will be different

theme. On a Sunday after church lets out is when I decided to do to do my ethnomethodology
experiment. I also brought my sister who is known for her sweet tooth. As we sit down at our
table our slightly overweight waiter immediately greets us. We order chocolate milkshakes and
our waiter smiles and says, Wait! No lemon water this time? This is the first reaction we
received. It made me feel a little nervous because if he is already reacting to our drinks, how is
he going to react to the rest of the dinner. After we receive our milkshakes we ordered our ice
cream brownie delux. Our waiter laughs and asks if that would be all. I explain to him that we
would still like an entree but that we want our dessert first. We then order a burger and some fries.
He then warns us that we may start looking like him if we keep this up this diet. This made me

Wall E: A Realistic Look into Our Future
This is called farming! You kids are gonna grow all kinds of plants! Vegetable plants, pizza plants.

coming from a captain that never knew anything about earth. Just imagine our world being
destroyed and then robots beginning to clean it up while we are on a luxury space cruise.
Now this might actually happen in our future. If you haven t seen the movie Wall e I suggest you

Just imagine. But this stuff is already happening to us. We are getting to attached to our electronics

We also have a lot of things in our world now that cause pollution. Transportation, food production,
and energy production. These things are just some of the many pollution causes on earth.
With all of these things our world would start to die by the minute and that s exactly what
happened in the movie Wall E. All of this stuff would be crazy.
Why did the creators of the movie base it like this? Could it actually be because they think all of
this will happen in our future? Well I talked to some people to see what they thought about all of
this and here are some of the answers I have.

Navigating The Kitchens Was Surprisingly Easy
Navigating the kitchens was surprisingly easy. People were running around, focusing so much of
their attention on their own duties that they didn t even think twice about Maela and Ralan walking
through. The guild in charge of cooking was under the Harvest Guild, so green tunics and robes
were everywhere, although there was the occasional white of a knight. There were no blue
merchants or others in the yellow of the Craft Guild.
They were only stopped once, and that was by a Harvest Guild member. Ralan s explanation of
broken equipment needing fixed resulted in nothing more than a comment of Hurry up, dinner will
be served soon.
They had turned down yet another hallway when Ralan leaned over and whispered to Maela, Those

forgotten about them.
When they were well past the knight, Ralan whispered, Did you plan for them to escort us?
People are clumsy, she replied, not even trying to hide her smile.
The defenses here aren t very good, Ralan noted as he and Maela looked through the door of the
prison dining hall. Prisoners were actually fed in their cells, so the hall itself was more of a room
for the jailors and a large prep area for taking food to the prisoners.
Maela turned and glared at Ralan. Nothing is ever easy. Don t forget that. Without a plan you
would have been captured in the Flats, on the Circle, and in the hallway back there. Maela took a
breath and then softened her voice. But you are correct about the defenses. But what is there to
defend? The prisons are well guarded, and who would attack the Knight Tower? They continued on.
The other side of the prison kitchen dining hall opened up to hallway off of the main atrium of the
prison part of the Tower. Unlike the small, cramped kitchen halls, the halls of the Tower proper

The number of trained professionals in particular threatened the economy of East Germany. The
Wall changed this. It did stop the flow of people West, but imprisoned the ones living in the west.
Since World War II, about half a million people cross the border separating different parts of

jobs in the strong economy of West Berlin. With the thriving economy, many shopped in the well
stocked stores in West Berlin. Items like jeans, fashionable dresses, and seamless panty hoses
which were unavailable in East Berlin shops were reaidly available in West Berlin shops. In
addition, East Berliners and other East Germans could simply take a subway car to flee to West

Even today Germans are seeing the effects of the wall. To Frank Schulz, a 35 year old Berlin

Definition of the Term Protocol
Protocol.
The term comes from the Greek protokollon, which was the cover page to a manuscript that
provided a description of the contents...how fitting a choice. In context, it is defined by American
Heritage dictionary as a code of correct conduct. In layman s terms, protocol is simply the rules
and customs of a group or a standard procedure.
Let s look at protocol in application, specifically in the armed forces. The importance of maintaining
correct protocol and Military bearing on and off duty, is essential because to show disrespect to an
NCO when in uniform could cause disrespect among civilians about the military in general. Any

The military recognizes that respect for authority is what maintains order and prevents the eruption
of chaos and is hence willing to set an example for all who might be tempted to oppose their
leaders, by administering these punishments first hand without any judicial representatives.
Furthermore, Article 90 makes it clearly illegal to disobey an order by a military officer.
In society there has to be a guideline something that regulates the conduct of people toward each
other. Just think of it in smaller terms, in a family environment. Mother and Father establish rules
by which children have to abide.
For example, when parents tell their children that they cannot scream and yell at each other they
are establishing with their children some (very important) protocol. It regulates the behavior of the
children and as much is a huge factor in why positive protocol is so important. The conduct
between people in a society is better because of it. Since the children from the above example
establish guidelines not to scream and yell at each other, they in turn become more effective
communicators. This positions the children to contribute on a greater level later in life.
On a larger scale it sets the stage for an environment where that behavior is something that is not
desirable, therefore creating a new norm.
We can also take a stance here at the importance of protocol in an academic setting. It

Air France Flight 447 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Paris, France Incident Summary The following
information is based on the findings of the BEA (Bureau d EnquГЄtes et d Analyses) (2012); On
May 31, 2009, Air France flight 447, an Airbus A330, took off from Rio de Janeiro enroute to
Paris, France. After a normal departure the crew climbed to their cruising altitude of FL350. The
captain was designated as the pilot monitoring (not flying) and the first officer was the pilot flying.
About 3 hours into the flight the crew noticed some weather ahead and began to encounter slight
turbulence. Due to performance limitation on the aircraft the crew was unable to climb above the
weather. The turbulence increased slightly as the flight continued, but less than 10 minutes later
the turbulence stopped. Once clear of the turbulence the captain woke the second first officer to
take his place. The captain stayed while the first officer briefed the second officer, then exited the
cockpit. The first officer (pilot flying) occupied the left seat, while the second officer (pilot
monitoring) occupied the right seat. Shortly there after, the turbulence increased slightly. The first
officer and second officer made the decision to slow from Mach 0.82 to Mach 0.80 and to turn
about 12 degrees left of course. About two minutes later the autopilot and auto thrust disconnected.
As the first officer took the controls the aircraft began to roll right, so he rolled the aircraft to the
left and pitched up.

Theme Of Nature Vs Nurture In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley explores the argument of nature versus nurture. The conflict of
nature versus nurture is displayed throughout the Gothic novel and in the development of the
characters. When looking at an argument such as nature versus nurture, the side one may want to
assume is difficult to find. Mary Shelley displays points in the novel to allow the reader to see
both sides of the argument, giving each side valid points. The shifts in tone and mood when
nature is displayed shows an immediate nurturing factor in the novel. The shifts allow the story to
keep pace, and not become to stagnant. The display of character development with a lack of
nurturing shows that without nurturing, humans are still able to develop with a sense of integrity.
Mary Shelley displays the theme of nature vs. nurture immediately with the development of
Walton in the letters. Robert saving the stranger outside of his ship from the cold and nursing
him back to health shows a nurturing side from Robert. When the mysterious man regains
conscience and realizes what is happening, he is greeted by a crew member who warns him,
[h]ere is our captain, and he will allow you to perish on the open sea (Shelley 10). Walton and his
crew take the man in and nurture him back to near full health. Walton shows an immediate aspect
of nurturing, I have persuaded him to remain in the cabin, for he is far too weak to sustain the
rawness of the atmosphere. (Shelley 12). The reader disconnects from

##cietal Values In Society In Amy Poehler s Writing Is Hard
In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be
pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these
situations, two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s
preface, Writing is Hard, and in Tina Feys excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to
live with the difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the
work side and Fey s being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s
mindset and believing in yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more
detailed and thought out job with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything
that more people can relate to. Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to
their specific audience; however, Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler.
Poehler and Fey are both well known for their comedic work and acting abilities in the society
meaning they have the credibility to talk about such topics they discuss in their excerpts, but
Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her advantage. She writes about teaching girls
that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are people tend to get from the media.
For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells her readers of her personal
story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her excerpt from chapter
three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin Janet scoffed,
Look at the hips on her. I panicked. What about the hips? Were they too big? Too small? What
were my hips? Fey later shares her story about her daughter noticing the standards for hair color
by saying, When I asked her why she didn t like Snow White, she told me, I don t like her hair.
Not even three years old, she knew that yellow hair is king (Bossypants). This proves to the
audience that not only is dealing with body image a problem now with the younger generation,
but, also, before Tina Fey even rose to fame. She is able to appeal to the readers emotions by using
her young daughter s story because

Weaknesses Of The French Crown
Importance of the Weaknesses of the French Crown in Explaining the Outbreak of the French Wars
of Religion in 1562
Previously France had been ruled by Henry II, a strong experienced ruler. It was, however, an
unfortunate jousting accident lead to the swift decline of the French monarchy. Henry s
successor, Francis II, was only fifteen years old on his accession to the throne in 1559. He was
inexperienced and easily manipulated. Charles IX, a ten year old who relied upon the help of
Catherine de Medici, his regent, then succeeded him. It was this new weak monarchy that acted as
a catalyst for the many underlying problems that had been previously controlled. The weaknesses of

Francis Duke of Guise quickly assumed control of the army, church and foreign affairs. The
Montmorency family had been stripped of office. The sudden shift of power towards the Guise
family heightened tensions between the aristocratic factions.
The monarchy in France operated through a clientage system. The King was at the apex and he
would give money and protection to the clientage beneath him, who, in return would offer the king
loyalty. Those beneath him included large aristocratic families and below these families were the
nobility, and further down still, the lesser nobility. The three aristocratic families were therefore
reliant on the nobility below them in the system for support. In return they would give offices
and jobs to their clients. Due to a weak monarchy this clientage system broke down. The
clientage system was a good way of exercising control over the major aristocratic families.
However, in order for such a system to function there needed to be a strong monarch and a large
sum of money, neither of which were available in 1559. After the vast amount of money spent in
the Hapsburg Valios wars the royal treasury was drained of resources. The monarchy not only
lacked a strong ruler but was also economically weak. It meant that the King could no longer keep
the aristocratic families under control by the means of the clientage system. The Guise s, who had

The Balanced Scorecard is a model used to align business activities to the organisation s vision and

(Galimi, 2010; Krishnan Hawranlik, 2008). Insomnia in older adults can lead to disruptions of
sleep in their caregivers, resulting in the decision of institutionalization of an elder. Furthermore,
chronic insomnia can precipitate psychological distress and is associated with difficulties in
attention, slower response times, diminished cognitive abilities, daytime sleepiness, and impaired
memory (Hildalgo et al., 2007). These factors combined can increase the risk of falls, fractures,
and driving accidents in the older adult. Insomnia as a risk factor for falls serves as a strong
predictor of long term care placement (Hill, et al., 2007).
Physical and psychological health implications of chronic insomnia in the older adult contribute to
a decreased quality of life. There is substantial evidence that suggests insomnia is an independent
risk factor for the onset and maintenance of major depression disorder (Pigeon Perlis, 2007).

Juvenile crime is one of the nation s most serious problems. Concerns about it are generally
broadcasted by federal, state, and local government officials and by the public. In years prior, the
burden developed beginning with the dramatic rise in juvenile violence in the eighties reaching an
all time peak in the first part of the nineties. Even though juvenile crimerates seem to have lowered
since the mid nineties, the reduction has not eased the concern. Many states began taking strict
statutory stances toward juveniles in the late seventies and early eighties. This was an era in
which juvenile crime rates were steady or dropping slightly, while federal reformers were
commending prevention and less disciplinary actions. Some of the conflict between the federal
program and what was happening in the states at that time may have been initiated by substantial
changes in legal measures that made juvenile court procedures more similar, however not equal to
those in adult (criminal) court. The reaction to the most recent spike in vicious juvenile crime has
been a portrayal of laws that uphold blurred differences between juvenile courts and adult courts.
Some states continued to strengthen their juvenile crime laws over the years first by making
sentencing more severe, two by increasing allowable transfers to criminal court, or doing away with
some of the discretion protections of juvenile court. Many such changes were enacted after the
juvenile violent crime rate had already

  • 2. Working With Parents In your opinion, why is the parent partnership important in the education of a student? Research has clearly proven that student achievement improves when parents are involved in their child s education (2010). When an education system comes together with the family of their students, the children tend to have a better understanding of the importance of school and working their best to become as educated as they can be. Students who have not involved parents may feel that they are at school only to be away from their parents. There are many reasons why children drop out of school so it is the job of the school system and families to do whatever it takes to get the student involved in their education. Once the student knows that everyone around them is supporting their educational needs they are more likely to have a positive outlook towards school. When they then become a parent they are more likely willing to be a partner in their future children s educational experiences because of their positive attitude towards learning. Why do you believe that some parents are reluctant to be involved in the educational process? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One major reason that I feel that parents are reluctant to work with schools is that they do not trust the schools to do what is best for their child. Parents must believe and trust that the teacher and school genuinely care about and are willing to do whatever is necessary to help their child (2010). Once a school loses the trust of parents it is hard to build it up again. Parents may also come into a school with a feeling of distrust because of their own educational experience. It is the job of the school to try and work on every parental relationship and build the trust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Our Earth s Sixth Mass Extinction Throughout the longevity of our Earth s biota, there are recorded times in which the majority of the pre living fauna and flora were seemingly decimated. According to our fossil record, these bouts of decimation have totaled to five individual instances throughout the existence of life on Earth. Many scientists agree in saying that, humans as speciesare the main cause for current sixth mass extinction . Some opponents to this theory claim that label of our worldwide ecological state as a sixth mass extinction , is just an emotional charge that makes the problem seem cosmic and overwhelming (Brand). This however is not a legitimate statement when taking into account the sheer magnitude of humaninvolvement and activities that has added... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many would argue this feat to be a sign of Homo sapiens knack to survive, but in actuality we survived on the backs of other species (figuratively of course) while in the process of wiping many of them out. One of the earliest instances of extinction caused by humans was from our ancestors about 12,000 20,000 years ago. When just coming into our prime as the lead predators of the Earth, humans began to have an impact on hundreds of the surrounding fauna indirectly it seems. According to radiocarbon dating of the fossils of the two meter tall flightless bird commonly known as the Great Moa, indicate that they became extinct soon after humans arrived. (Avise 219) Though our ancestors had no notion of conservation or ecological awareness, humans as a species cannot displace the blame towards anything but to ourselves. Some believe that the many mega fauna (exceedingly large animals) that went extinct when humans first started to hunt more rapidly, due to population size growth, went extinct due to changes in climate not by human interference. This notion is completely farce. Well I talked to some people to see what they thought about all of this and here are some of the answers I have. Person 1said Maybe, because if you look at our world now, the technology has increased and there will probably be a lot of changes like robots and it might damage our world. People were running around, focusing so much of their attention on their own duties that they didn t even think twice about Maela and Ralan walking through. The guild in charge of cooking was under the Harvest Guild, so green tunics and robes were everywhere, although there was the occasional white of a knight. There were no blue merchants or others in the yellow of the Craft Guild. They were only stopped once, and that was by a Harvest Guild member. When they were well past the knight, Ralan whispered, Did you plan for them to escort us? People are clumsy, she replied, not even trying to hide her smile. The defenses here aren t very good, Ralan noted as he and Maela looked through the door of the prison dining hall. Prisoners were actually fed in their cells, so the hall itself was more of a room for the jailors and a large prep area for taking food to the prisoners. Maela turned and glared at Ralan. Nothing is ever easy. Don t forget that. Without a plan you would have been captured in the Flats, on the Circle, and in the hallway back there. Maela took a breath and then softened her voice. But you are correct about the defenses. But what is there to defend? The prisons are well guarded, and who would attack the Knight Tower? They continued on. The other side of the prison kitchen dining hall opened up to hallway off of the main atrium of the prison part of the Tower. Just think of it in smaller terms, in a family environment. Mother and Father establish rules by which children have to abide. For example, when parents tell their children that they cannot scream and yell at each other they are establishing with their children some (very important) protocol. It regulates the behavior of the children and as much is a huge factor in why positive protocol is so important. The conduct between people in a society is better because of it. Since the children from the above example establish guidelines not to scream and yell at each other, they in turn become more effective communicators. This positions the children to contribute on a greater level later in life. On a larger scale it sets the stage for an environment where that behavior is something that is not desirable, therefore creating a new norm. After a normal departure the crew climbed to their cruising altitude of FL350. The captain was designated as the pilot monitoring (not flying) and the first officer was the pilot flying. About 3 hours into the flight the crew noticed some weather ahead and began to encounter slight turbulence. Due to performance limitation on the aircraft the crew was unable to climb above the weather. The turbulence increased slightly as the flight continued, but less than 10 minutes later the turbulence stopped. Once clear of the turbulence the captain woke the second first officer to take his place. The captain stayed while the first officer briefed the second officer, then exited the cockpit. The first officer (pilot flying) occupied the left seat, while the second officer (pilot monitoring) occupied the right seat. Shortly there after, the turbulence increased slightly. The first officer and second officer made the decision to slow from Mach 0.82 to Mach 0.80 and to turn about 12 degrees left of course. • 32. Theme Of Nature Vs Nurture In Frankenstein In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley explores the argument of nature versus nurture. The conflict of nature versus nurture is displayed throughout the Gothic novel and in the development of the characters. When looking at an argument such as nature versus nurture, the side one may want to assume is difficult to find. Mary Shelley displays points in the novel to allow the reader to see both sides of the argument, giving each side valid points. The shifts in tone and mood when nature is displayed shows an immediate nurturing factor in the novel. The shifts allow the story to keep pace, and not become to stagnant. The display of character development with a lack of nurturing shows that without nurturing, humans are still able to develop with a sense of integrity. Mary Shelley displays the theme of nature vs. nurture immediately with the development of Walton in the letters. Robert saving the stranger outside of his ship from the cold and nursing him back to health shows a nurturing side from Robert. When the mysterious man regains conscience and realizes what is happening, he is greeted by a crew member who warns him, [h]ere is our captain, and he will allow you to perish on the open sea (Shelley 10). Walton and his crew take the man in and nurture him back to near full health. • 34. ##cietal Values In Society In Amy Poehler s Writing Is Hard In today s society, people often tend to shift towards the societal norms and don t ever want to be pushed out of their comfort zone. While many people write about the struggles with these situations, two authors seem to do a great job at explaining it in their own lives. In Amy Poehler s preface, Writing is Hard, and in Tina Feys excerpt Bossypants, they both describe what it s like to live with the difficulties and demands of today s society with Poehler s being more from the work side and Fey s being from the beauty side. While both write about overcoming society s mindset and believing in yourself in the two perspectives they present, Fey seems to do a more detailed and thought out job with the writing in Chapter three: All Girls Must Be Everything that more people can relate to. Furthermore, the two comedians do a great job trying to appeal to their specific audience; however, Tina Fey seems to find more strength in it than Poehler. Poehler and Fey are both well known for their comedic work and acting abilities in the society meaning they have the credibility to talk about such topics they discuss in their excerpts, but Tina Fey appears to use her fame status more to her advantage. She writes about teaching girls that they are all beautiful no matter what the standards are people tend to get from the media. For example, in Fey s excerpt from her book, Bossypants, she tells her readers of her personal story with experiencing body awareness for the first time. Fey states in her excerpt from chapter three of Bossypants, One afternoon a girl walked by in a bikini and my cousin Janet scoffed, Look at the hips on her. I panicked. What about the hips? Were they too big? Too small? What were my hips? Fey later shares her story about her daughter noticing the standards for hair color by saying, When I asked her why she didn t like Snow White, she told me, I don t like her hair. Not even three years old, she knew that yellow hair is king (Bossypants). This proves to the audience that not only is dealing with body image a problem now with the younger generation, but, also, before Tina Fey even rose to fame. The sudden shift of power towards the Guise family heightened tensions between the aristocratic factions. The monarchy in France operated through a clientage system. The King was at the apex and he would give money and protection to the clientage beneath him, who, in return would offer the king loyalty. Those beneath him included large aristocratic families and below these families were the nobility, and further down still, the lesser nobility. The three aristocratic families were therefore reliant on the nobility below them in the system for support. In return they would give offices and jobs to their clients. Due to a weak monarchy this clientage system broke down. The clientage system was a good way of exercising control over the major aristocratic families. However, in order for such a system to function there needed to be a strong monarch and a large sum of money, neither of which were available in 1559. After the vast amount of money spent in the Hapsburg Valios wars the royal treasury was drained of resources. The monarchy not only lacked a strong ruler but was also economically weak. Concerns about it are generally broadcasted by federal, state, and local government officials and by the public. In years prior, the burden developed beginning with the dramatic rise in juvenile violence in the eighties reaching an all time peak in the first part of the nineties. Even though juvenile crimerates seem to have lowered since the mid nineties, the reduction has not eased the concern. Many states began taking strict statutory stances toward juveniles in the late seventies and early eighties. This was an era in which juvenile crime rates were steady or dropping slightly, while federal reformers were commending prevention and less disciplinary actions. Some of the conflict between the federal program and what was happening in the states at that time may have been initiated by substantial changes in legal measures that made juvenile court procedures more similar, however not equal to those in adult (criminal) court. The reaction to the most recent spike in vicious juvenile crime has been a portrayal of laws that uphold blurred differences between juvenile courts and adult courts.
