The Negative And Positive Connotation On Speech Communities
There is negative and positive connotation on speech communities based on what social media
portrays for each group. This issue within society is that we see language as a system and right or
wrong. An example is Slang, African American Vernacular language and also. When hearing slang
people tend to assume that the person or group using it comes from a lower class. One misconception
is that an individual that is using AAE is a product of a lower income community. Proper and non
proper speech is correlated to economic and social status of speaker. An example for African
American Vernacular language was presented through the video Who else done messed up? In this
video the substitute was using African American Vernacular English when pronouncing the student s
names there was voice stops devoiced at the end of the names, consonant cluster deduction and
vocalization in names but when giving instruction none of these features appeared. The negative
connotation in this video is the substitute was speaking in commonly used English that would be
considered AAVE but because it is believed that only African Americans use AAVE the video shows
how there was only one person that understood the substitute enunciation and is was a young African
American male. There is a misconception that each country has one language but in reality, this is a
variety of dialects within each one. Another fallacy/ mistaken belief is that an individual that is using
AAE is non educated, that is not

Morality In The Lottery
When thinking of traditions, the first few that come to mind are putting up the Christmas tree, going to
the fair, and many others. Traditions intertwine between families and others as well, and even
nationwide. However, there are some traditions that we are not able to fathom. For example, in The
Lottery , there is a lottery drawn every year for a good crop season. During this tradition, one person
from the community is stoned to death as a sacrifice. Why don t people question traditions like this?
People who grow up in certain communities do things a little different than their neighboring towns,
because it is what they have known their entire life. To them, it is normal . Consistency is like a drug
due to the fact that people do not always adapt well. People often fixate on repeated circumstances and
the outcome can be detrimental. Repeating the lottery every year in their town is quite out of the
morality I have, however, it is the tradition they all are familiar with. Shockingly enough, the world
continuously changes while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe this exist in every society. Looking into my own traditions after reading The Lottery , I am
more aware of the impact they have on my life and the one s who take part in the same traditions. It is
easy to follow the norm of a tradition because of the lifestyle you were shown as a kid. Watching the
fireworks on the fourth of July, participating in the hunting of Easter eggs, and also preparing
Thanksgiving dinner never brought a question to my mind such as, Why am I doing this? . As a child
you are dependent on your parents and there is usually no question as to why they are doing the things
they do each year just like those who participated in the stoning. Some of the people who threw stones
were little boys and girls who thought this incidence was okay because it was a tradition. The town
where it took place could not let go of the

The Border Between Mexico And United States Essay
Introduction The United States has led the fight against criminal activities from Mexican borders for
many years. Criminal activities along the United States and Mexican border range from drug
trafficking, human smuggling and an economy that disruptive. These are illegal activities scholars
have argued could lead to the failure of Mexico as a country and the spread of violence to the United
States. The illegal activities are not only a threat to the economy of Mexico and United States but also
to the rest of the world due the impacts associated. The border between Mexico and US is of essential
significance because it provides the link between the two countries. The border provides passageways
through which either country can access the other via land or air means. Although the border is of
significance to both countries, smuggling of drugs and trafficking human are main causes of violence
between the countries. Drug cartels in Mexico smuggle drugs into the United States and this drives a
war between them and the US government. The economy and the peace between Mexico and US is
also affected significantly due to the illegal activities. To minimize the violence caused by these illegal
activities, the US government need to act against the activities. The United States needs to increase the
economic aid and military intervention to Mexico to fight the drug cartels, otherwise it could become
a failed state; spreading more violence across the US border. According to Basmajian,

Discrimination And Prejudice And Discrimination
Discrimination comes in a number of forms. We have age discrimination, employment or job
discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination, reverse discrimination, sexual
discrimination, and others. Prejudice is a negative attitude toward a socially defined group and toward
any person perceived to be a member of that group (Burgess, 2003). The purpose of her research was
to talk about discrimination and prejudices and the affect they have on our day to day lives. She also
defines prejudice and discrimination and takes a look at their relationship to stereotyping and racism.
According to Burgess, stereotyping often leads to prejudice and discrimination, with its definition
almost mirroring that of prejudice. Stereotypes or characterizations are generalizations or assumptions
that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image, often wrong,
about what people in that group are like. We are told that it does not allow for individuals to be
different, but names them all as one group (Burgess, 2003). Much as her research does, I d like to
discuss the different types of discrimination and prejudice and how we might eliminate it. In the text
chosen for this course, Managing Diversity People Skills for a Multicultural Workplace, the author
reminds its readers that America has been a segmented society and that de facto segregation is still
common. Rumor, suspicion, and stereotyping result if a group is competing too earnestly

Competitive Market Demand
CESARANO FRANCESCO
ESSAY N.3
SUPPLY AND DEMAND WITH THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET
The concept of competitive market can be explained by saying that there is a large number of firms
competing each other with a large number of buyers, selling an identical product. There is also
perfectly freedom to entry and to leave the industry.
One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if
they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and
therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. This lead to a perfectly elastic
demand curve for any given product.
The last presumption is that the producer and consumers are aware of the ... Show more content on

Due to the high volume of participants, either a central bank or a single individual cannot interfere
with the current price against market speculation and therefore they are price taker .
There are many theories developed by economist trying to explain how exchange rate move, but none
of them has so far proved to be very accurate with the future exchange rate moves predicted.
On one side there are the technical analysts which believe that all the economic studies such as
inflation, interest rate, etc. are already known by the market and are reflected in the current price.
The chartists as they are also known, study charts that represents price movement over a period and
claim that future repetition of certain patterns can be predicted. Although Economist don t approve
Technical analyst approach, in the last two decades it had great influence on the forex market.
On the other side there is the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) which states that the rate will
adjust to the point where international purchasing power is equal.
In other word that mean that the price of any good would be the same in every country, a simple
example would be like The Economist states in its Big Mac index.
This means that one of the most important factor for exchange rates movement is the different
inflation rates between

Social Influence of Television Advertisement on Children a...
CHAPTER ONE 1. BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Social influence is defined as a change in an
individual s thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors that results from interaction with another
individual or a group of people . Social influence is distinct from conformity, power, and authority.
French and Raven (1959) provided an early formalization of the concept of social influence in their
discussion of the bases of social power. For French and Raven, agents of change included not just
individuals and groups, but also norms and roles. They viewed social influence as the outcome of the
exertion of social power from one of five bases: reward power, coercive power, legitimate power,
expert power, or referent power. A change in reported ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well when a young child sees something like that they can only think but to go try it themselves and
maybe they will have fun and enjoy themselves. Children that are trying smoking are becoming
younger and younger. Smoking has nothing good to offer to children but health problems later on in
life. Television impacts children the most as far as advertising goes. Many children as young as three
years old recognize brand named products and clothing. When these children spend time watching so
much television they cannot help but be influenced by it; and want what they see. These children
become so obsessed with having what they see on television that they continue to hassle their parents
until they get it Some parents may even have trouble keeping up with the amount of money theft child
thinks that they need so they may have the newest products out there. These children that are watching
more television, are going to want more toys seen in advertisements and eat more advertised food than
children who do not watch as much television (Strasburger, 2001). The British Medical Association,
responding to the Government s White Paper of November 2004, recommends an outright ban on
advertising foods to children in the UK (see British

Why Was The 13th Amendment Important
The thirteenth amendment was the first amendment implemented into the United States Constitution
to ending slavery. The thirteenth amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude,
except as a punishment for a crime of which the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist
within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Library of Congress). Slavery
started in the year 1619 in the Northern American colonies and continued to grow until the nation
became divided between those who supported slavery and the others who did not support slavery
(History.com Staff, 2009). Slaves were beaten, worked to extreme exhaustion, and never given proper
care. Many of these slaves worked the tobacco farms and helped build the economic foundations of
the new nation. While this amendment alone was not enough to completely stop slavery, it was a
commencement to change the future. For every change, there must be a start, and the thirteenth
amendment offered a start to those who endured cruel unequal treatment. This amendment would
establish freedom and would allow Congress the power to define freedom. The thirteenth amendment
was extremely controversial. Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Benjamin Rush were some of the first to form
an abolition group against slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me, this is more than just freeing slaves this was about making sure every human being regardless
of race had equal rights and equal opportunities. While further rights did not happen immediately after
this amendment was ratified it is was the foundation for creating those equal rights for all races.
Moments in history such as this thirteenth amendment is what defines our futures. The constitution of
the United States is what protects our country and our

It is difficult to find out a unified standard for classification of reality TV programmes types. In

Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich...
Politics and power are significant in all societies, rich or poor. In Prosperity and Violence, the Political
Economy of Development, Harvard academic Robert H. Bates gives insight on the relationship
between political order and economic growth. By analyzing the revolution of agrarian societies to
industrial societies, he argues that as these transitions occur, violence is often used to strengthen the
system of production.
In spite of Third World countries similar pre industrial history and early policies aimed at
industrializing, Third World countries have not had the same growth as most European countries.
Bates analyzes the process of development and concludes that this time period as an important
variable in a countries development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the monarch had to relinquish power to the people, it was in the monarchs advantage.
They led persuared them to buy into the monarchs desire for war and as a result the monarch received
more money from the people. Bates argues that some institutions in European states were forged by
war. The absence of this threat would prevent the new juridical states from developing parallel
institutions. In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin
based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin
networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person,
property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the
economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to,
the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private
creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were
safe. This resulted in economic growth and, therefore, tax revenue.
Another key argument Bates presents is the importance of investing to promote economic
development. Without a proficient state to control violence, people in societies will mainly focus on
consumption instead of investment. It is almost human nature to think

The Egyptian Culture Of Egypt
Egyptian Culture
Introduction:
For the final paper assignment I chose to write about the Egyptian culture. The reason why I chose the
Egyptian culture is because I have always been fascinated by it. My mother was a huge fan of this
particular culture, so I grew up going to all the different museums. I am amazed by their pyramids,
their history and how they were able to mummify their pharaohs.
Geographical area: Egypt s official name is Arab Republic of Egypt . The country is considered to be a
transcontinental country, since it spans the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia, via
land bridge. Egypt borders the Gaza Strip, Israel, the Gulf of Aqaba, the Red Sea, Sudan and Libya.
With over 90 million inhabitants, Egypt is the most populous country in North Africa and the Arab
World. The great majority of people live near the banks of the Nile River, an area about 15,000sq mi,
where the only arable land is found. Most of Egypt s territory is inhabited by the Sahara desert. About
half of Egypt s residents live in urban areas, with most spread across the populated centers of greater
Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta. The capital of Egypt is Cairo.
Language and literature: There are a number of language spoken in Egypt, but Egyptian Arabic is by
far the most widely spoken in the country. The official language in Egypt is Literary Arabic , which is
used in most written documents. English is the most commonly used foreign language

Descriptive Essay On A Rare Bird
A quiet bird. One that lived deep inside the forest. One that was barely seen when wanderers passed
the green and brown of the trees, and the underwood, the grass and the leaves. All they ve seen was
the sunlight filtered through this army of leaves above their heads and in height of their eyes,
caressing their faces as they pass through a void of never ending emerald. The tears of a bygone night
moistened their cheeks and they d ignore the mourning. Footsteps sunk deep into the velvet ground
covered by moss. They sank so deep that the strollers were afraid of being locked into this green hell
forever. Dragonflies and other winged insects rose with the last remains of mist that told the story of a
lonely, rare bird. The strollers stopped walking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bright as silk when it lay in my mother s hand. The silk my mother s face was covered in when she

do such a thing, hiding a face of a beloved beneath a cover. Then, the hunter grabbed me tight and put
me into a wooden cage. He tapped his finger against it and smiled at me. Surely, he did not mean me
harm, but he harmed me anyway. I cannot flap my wings, I can no longer fly, no longer can I graze the
air with my coat. All what is left that I can do is to sing, but not too loud or they ll place a cover across
my cage and hide what I was once. Maybe it will be silk and they will mourn me, too? When I sing, it

Compare And Contrast Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies
In the classic novel, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, it explores the themes of the different
perspectives and ideologies humans use to civilize themselves. In the novel, the main protagonist
Ralph best represents the logical point of view, attempting to conserve the utopian island, while the
antagonist Jack best illustrates the savage point of view, which results in the creation of a dystopia
based on his lust for enjoyment. In Lord of The Flies, even though both Ralph and Jack represent
different ideologies, they do possess some similarities between them. While both characters have
different leading styles, it can be argued that they are effective leaders. They are both adverse in
inspiring those their followers, the boys in the island, with Ralph using hope for returning to motivate
the rest of the boys stranded in the island, while Jack uses fear against the beast as a catalyst for his
seizing of power. In my opinion, this similarity is the reason why these two different pathways were
capable of remaining popular among the boys or what they symbolize, society. The reason for this is
because as social creatures, humans need to have a high morale to be able to achieve progress, which
is something that requires capable leaders. Jack used a particularly cruel method by making the beast
as a sort of religion for the boys by using it as a figurehead for his power. He treated the beast like a
deity when he stated that the, head is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding,

Power in Congress Essay
Power In and Over Congress
I feel the system is biased because there are inequalities among the representation and participation of
interest groups and constituents in the political system. Unfortunately, poor and uneducated citizens
aren t as organized as interest groups, lobbyists and PACs because they lack the money, resources and
connections necessary to influence congress members on legislative bills. It is evident that, businesses,
interest groups and labor unions are spending more than $100 million a month to lobby the federal
government (Associated Press, SFC, 3/7/98). The actual population of interest groups in Washington
surely reflects that there is a class bias in the membership of interest groups (JBG).

In my opinion, I feel that constituents have power over congress members because they have the
power to vote them in or out of office. On the other hand, I feel that voting constituents have the least
amount of influence over congress members, who strive for money contributions in order to, run their
political campaigns, compared to donors and PACs.
Gallegos 2
Wayne, Lasser, Miller and others tend to agree that lobbyists and PACs have a great amount of
influence over congress members because they may have direct connections and give campaign
contributions. Recently, the airlines industry convinced congress to pass a $15 billion aid package it
needs in order to survive. The airlines had plenty of resources to draw on: 27 in houses lobbyists,
augmented by lobbyists from 42 Washington firms, including former White House aides and
transportation secretaries, as well as the airlines own chief executives and corporate board members,
whom all are well known in the halls of congress (Wayne, NYT, 10/01/01. Lasser, American Politics,
1999. Miller, The American Prospect, 10/23/00. Geiger, Washington Post, 11/4 10/91.)
I feel that money is an important factor to lobbyist whose connection with people at the top is crucial.
Representative Lloyd Doggett agrees that in most cases, All the lobbying is focused on a handful of
people at the top (Wayne, NYT, 10/01/01). It seems to me that major corporations have an easier time

Romanticism And Ralph Waldo Emerson
Romanticism and Emerson
Poetry is something that everyone views and interprets differently. From the rhythmic qualities, to the
symbolism, no opinion is wrong. In the 18th century a differently style of poetry came about known as
Romanticism, or the Romantic Era. Romanticism focuses on several characteristics imagination,
emotion, nature, personal life, symbolism, and individualism. Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor
Coleridge and Tintern Abbey both highlight these ideas as well as Ralph Waldo Emerson. With help
from Emerson s ideas, we can help understand Coleridge s dark views of poetry. Ralph Waldo

Similar to Kubla Khan , Wordsworth starts his poem off by saying Five years have past; fiver
summers, with the length of five long winters! . This to me is important, because it shows how so
much time has passed, but yet for him nothing has changed. Wordsworth then questions on whether or
not he should leave his secluded area. Emerson at this point would then take this and say how the
figurative use of Wordsworth to state how its first the fact; second its impression, or what I thin of it .
Emerson would use the literal impression of 5 years going by, followed by the descriptive part of time
going by. The day is come when I again repose , also shows the impression of how much time has
passed by. The character that Wordsworth is painting, shows us that he has been secluded for so long
that he does not necessarily know how to participate in life, or act around other people. With some
uncertain notice, as might seem. Of vagrant dwellers in the houseless woods, Or of some Hermit s
cave, where by his fire The Hermit sits alone. Just by those couple of lines, we truly do understand
how alone this character is. Since Emerson does believe that poetry is an everlasting endeavor to
express the spirit, we may interpret that Wordsworth, he, cannot achieve something, which would
result in secluding himself from everything and everyone. Even in the second

The Effects Of Migration On Higher Educational Aspirations
Introduction
If one were to evaluate the impact of immigration, it can be said that it alters the way in which one
interprets a certain culture or idea. Immigration can shape the way parents see the future of their child,
specifically their academic and career aspirations. The parents may hold different expectations for
their children, in terms of their desire for a better future for their children. However, it can also affect
the manner in which the child accomplishes these goals. In this paper, I will examine the effects of
migration on higher educational aspirations for the children of immigrants, because it is important to
note how the migrant s experience influences the desires for their children. I will focus on the three
reasons that can influence their aspirations: motivations for migration, expectations for children and
academic performance of the children. I argue that to fully understand how migration affects
educational aspirations, it is necessary to focus on the reasons that migration was made possible for
Latina migrant womens, considering the economic and political histories of Latin America and the
United States. It is also important to note what the educational aspirations are, and to consider the
academic performances of the children of migrant workers, to see whether or not they are living up to
these expectations. Results demonstrate that the outcomes can be mixed, as some children may live up
to the aspirations while others are held back due to

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Studying Abroad
In the last century, the contemporary world has become more globalized than before. There has been a
worldwide integration in different fields of life such as economic, political, business, trade, financial,
and educational fields. In order to deal with this globalization, students, in all over the world, should
be opened to other countries and cultures which exceed the boundary of their nation. Studying abroad,
which means leaving the homeland country and pursuing the education in another country ( Dervin
Byron, 2008), could be one of the ways for the students to explore this globalized world. It has been
mentioned by the Institute of International Education (IIE) that in the last two decades the number of
students studying abroad worldwide has tripled (Lieb, 2016). Should students be more encouraged ...

Their point of view is that it is hard for these students to be responsible for arranging money for
university s tuition fees and for their living expenses. Although that is correct to a certain extent, there
are some weaknesses in this view. Firstly, students who have the intention to study abroad would put a
prior financial plan with their parents. That helps them to know their budget, and to spend money
according to it. Also, if there are some unexpected circumstances happen, they will be assisted
financially by their parents. Secondly, some universities and schools provide full or partial
scholarships for the international students (Cadd,2012). For example, University of British Columbia
offers scholarships and other forms of financial aid for international students. Thirdly, many students
can work part time jobs while studying to earn money. That will help them to cover their personal
expenses (Tyner,2013). There are many jobs that these students can work such as working in a

The And The Trial Rather Than On Primary Sources
Question 1: Larson relies heavily on earlier studies of Surratt and the trial rather than on primary
sources. She uses several secondary sources to paint a vivid, well realized portrait of Mary Surratt. In
her Acknowledgments section, she specifically credits James O. Hall who perhaps did more than
anyone to advance scholarship and research into the conspiracy to kidnap then assassinate President
Lincoln. She also states that the research files housed at the James O. Hall Research Center are the
core of any historian s investigation into the complex web of John Wilkes Booth s fatal scheme (231).
She also thanks Google Books, Making of America, Documenting the American South, the Gutenberg

Larson does show to have posed her own questioning of Surratt s role. She states that new information
{is} uncovered every day (134). Mary is clearly established as not only guilty but more highly
involved than anyone has given her credit for thus far. Mary converted to Catholicism at age sixteen
and married the unstable alcoholic John Surratt, age twenty six, who died in 1862 and left her with the
boardinghouse at 541 H Street (1). Through her son, John Jr., a confederate courier (or messenger),
Mary gained ties to Booth and other accomplices who stayed at the boardinghouse often.
Question 3: Major figures in this book include, obviously Mary Surratt, along with her son John
Surratt, John Wilkes Booth, David Herold, George Azterodt, Lewis Powell, Michael O Laughlen,
Samuel Arnold, Samuel Mudd, and Edmund Spangler. Her attorney in the trial was Reverdy Johnson
though he decided to let Frederick Aiken take his place, because he believed the military tribunal was
unconstitutional. The inexperience of Aiken may have aided in Surratt s final guilty verdict as he kept
asking questions that aided in the showing her true colors. The current Secretary of War, Sir Edwin
Stanton, favored a quick military trial and execution, whereas Secretary of

Similarities And Similarities Between Beowulf And Gilgamesh
British literature like Beowulf and Gilgamesh hold several characteristics that make this type of
literature unique. Each of theses stories hold similarities and difference that alter the course of the
main character. Both Beowulf and Gilgamesh took vast journeys in their ruling as leaders, but they
each took the journeys for different reasons. These two epic heroes of british literature both used the
up in coming benefits of christianity in their journeys expressed in the novels, yet the two characters
used the beliefs in different ways. Both of these men are viewed as having great amounts of power and
through analyzing it can be determined that the men use their powers to different extents. Gilgamesh
and Beowulf are two heros that have a number of similarities and differences in their epics.
One difference that lies in the two epic heroes is how christianity is perceived through the epics.
Gilgamesh and Beowulf both have biblical references in their quests, yet in Beowulf it can be seen
more clearly. During Beowulf s journey he specifically prayed to the Gods for guidance in the battles
with both Grendel and his mother. While in Gilgamesh the story contained a motif to Noah s Flood,
and this leads to shaping Gilgamesh into a greater king because it gives him a story to tell. Another
similarity in the epics in connection to christianity is they both use stories of the bible, Beowulf is seen
as a kenning to Cane in the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Gilgamesh used

Iago As A Cruel Character In Shakespeare s Othello
Ever came across a scheming, wrongdoing type of person? Ever came across a person that cannot be
trust because of their capability of going against others. I have not in my life, but I had the opportunity
of watching a movie about a person who conveyed harmful characteristics. In Shakespeare s play,
Othello , Iago is a cruel character. Iago is a good name for an evil character in another story. Many of
the characters were in the dark about Iago. In other words, Iago was on others bad side. He started
most of the chaos. In Shakespeare s play, Othello , Iago is a person who lies, manipulate, and kill
others purposely.
Firstly, Iago participated in lying actions. Iago lied to Othello which made him think that his wife

Manipulate means to influence a person skillfully. Manipulative also means to trick someone to obtain
favor of oneself. In Othello , Iago does a great job manipulating the characters in the story. He
manipulates Othello so much that Othello becomes sick, Iago plants a picture in Othello s head of
thoughts of adultery, cuckoldry, and hypocrisy, until Othello tells him to speak his mind (3.3.271).
Iago manipulates the characters so much that he starts to believe himself. Iago made the characters
believe that he knew more than what they thought he knew. The problems in the story arose from Iago
manipulating everyone that he thought pose a threat to him. Manipulative people, like Iago, are
dangerous.
Thirdly, Iago participated in killing actions. Whether it was physically and mentally, Iago killed
everyone in the story. He lied and manipulated the characters to a point that the whole village was
confused. This was his way of killing mentally. Iago killed his wife, Emilia, physically by stabbing her
to death. The story reads, Othello admits to Emilia that he killed Desdemona, and when she asks him
why, Othello tells her that Iago told him of Desdemona s falsehood (5.2.168). Iago mess eventually
catches up with him. In the end Iago, Desdemona, Emilia, and Othello were

The Effect of Single Parent Families to Children
CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY A family is often pictured by many with two parents. But for some
their family composes of only one. Doug Hewitt (2010), an eHow Contributor said that Single parents
families are defined as households in which there is at least one child under the age of 18 and there is
only one parent in the household because of divorce, death or because the parent never married.
Moreover, Cox (1984) emphasized that the largest percentage of single parent families result from
divorce followed by death of a parent. According to Medina (2005) there are different types of a single
parent family. First is the widow or widower and children which is caused by a death of spouse where
the surviving spouse did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divorced families present a greater risk for children with depression or other serious psychiatric
disorders to develop. Spencer (1982) said in his book entitled Foundations of Modern Technology that
children are more likely to die of coronary heart disease in later years if they had lost one or both
parents before entering college. According to Traci S Campbell (2010) education of children can also
be affected she said that children that are raised in a single parent household have lower grades than
those who are raised in a home with both parents. This can be in a home where the child has always
been raised by one parent or in homes where a divorce or separation has recently taken place. Studies
also show children raised in a single parent household are less likely to go to college or take steps to
continue their education. There are also a higher percentage of drop outs that were raised in a single
family home. Time spent with a single parent during the formative preschool years seems to have
particularly bad effects on a boy s education, according to Sheila Fitzgerald Krein and Andrea H.
Beller of the school of human resources and family studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana.
The report in Demography, the journal of the Population Association of America, said that many
studies have focused on the psychological consequences for children in one parent

For Colored Girls Movie Essay
For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry is, in my opinion, a great drama that was released in 2010.
Perry gathered some of the most prominent Black actors and actresses to display scenarios that
women, particularly those of color, go through on a daily basis. There are multiple problems facing
these women and although they all live in a different world and face all different problems, somehow
they all are intertwined with one another.
Janet Jackson plays Joanna. Being a successful business woman is not always a good thing because

Being that it is a drama, the viewer is supposed to be able to feel the emotion of the movie. Tyler Perry
did a phenomenal job of making that happen. Everything seemed so real. Rape, domestic violence,

problems that many people can relate to. Seeing all the sad endings made me cry. Knowing that the
plot could be a reality for an actual person around me made the movie so much better. For example,
Nyla s young pregnancy, Joanna s husband s infidelity, Yasmine s rape, Crystal with the death of her
children, physical, mental abuse, and dealing with the fact that her husband struggled with PTSD are
all issues that real people deal with. This made the emotion of the movie come out so much more than

characters in the movie. Also, the acting that the actresses and actors did made the emotion so much

Relationship Between Rising Us Unemployment and the...
Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar?
Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade
accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United
States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as
exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate
gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade
surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine

Although lower interest rates can improve domestic spending, it will discourage foreign investors
because the return on their investments decreases. As of September 2011, the US interest rate is close
to 0% and Canada s rate is at 1% as determined by the Bank of Canada. Low interest rates indicate
that the US is in poor financial health. More countries will want to invest in Canada if the US is in a
risky financial situation and additionally, provides low returns. The value of the Canadian dollar rises
when demand increases.
Due to America s increasing government debt and declining interest rates, Canada s economy is
comparatively more stable. Canada s credit rating is currently higher than America s. A credit rating
indicates the financial health of a country and how large the risk is for lenders to invest. Standard and
Poor s, a credit rating agency, currently downgraded America s rating to AA+ from the highest score
of AAA. The downgrade was a result of the U.S. s increasing debt from the recession. Canada s credit
rating is still the highest at triple A because of the country s stability. Canada is more attractive to
invest in, as there are solid returns on the interest rates and low risk for lenders. Increased demand in
Canadian assets can result in a higher exchange rate. Investors want to put money into a country
where they believe it is a safe haven.

Analysis Of Howard Zinn s The United States
There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written
from records left by the privileged.
― Howard Zinn, A People s History of the United States
Zinn once remarked, Objectivity is impossible and it is also undesirable. That is, if it were possible it
would be undesirable, because if you have any kind of a social aim, if you think history should serve
society in some way; should serve the progress of the human race; should serve justice in some way,
then it requires that you make your selection on the basis of what you think will advance causes of
humanity (Flynn). It is pretty clear to the reader that Zinn believes that socialism and Communism are
systems that advance the cause of humanity, and that America is a reactionary, terrorist state; those
beliefs form the foundation of his tendentious and error ridden book.
In A People s History of the United States, greed is the explanation for every major historical event.
As we see in Zinn s book, just to name a few examples, the separation from Great Britain, the Civil
War, and World Wars I and II were driven by motives involving rich Americans more or less seeking
to improve themselves at the expenses of others. To me it seems that there is clearly a disparity
between the promise and practice of democracy and capitalism in twentieth century America. For
Zinn, the answer is the same as the question pretty much. America is a cruel, slaveholder society
whose goal is

Before I begin my discussion I would like to provide a little background information on myself. I am
the Bishop of Antioch, I was recently appointed to this position, and I have not physically been there

back to the apostles of Jesus, I am considered a metropolitan bishop. As a metropolitan Bishop, I
believe that we know what is best for the church. What is best for the church is to allow the
metropolitan bishops to be in charge. Metropolitan bishops should have full authority over the

head leaders before a person of clergy can be promoted to a bishop. In addition to this I believe that
the bishop of Jerusalem should be appointed over Palestine instead of Eusebius of Caesarea. While
Caesarea was the seat of Roman power in Palestine it has no spiritual or theological authority in the
church. Jerusalem has tires all the way back to Genesis, when Abraham went to Jerusalem to make

conservative about their food habits and preferred traditional Indian food over canned or packaged
food. Today, India is one of the fastest growing market for snack and Maggie was estimated to have
70% share in the market. It almost doubled its size from 2010(2940 million units) to 2014(5340
million units). It contributed 30% to the Nestlé s 9000 crore annual turnover. Starting off as a snack
for children, Maggie quickly expanded its consumer base to include students and young professionals
and was even available in the most inaccessible parts of India. The advertisements of Maggie became
so popular that the tagline of bas 2 minute instantly reminded people of Maggie.

It represented the drift of India towards exciting and at the same time accessible taste of modernity.
Taste of Maggi was of the form that was both new and familiar and one of the most important factor in
its success was it made possible for everyone to cook up something delicious quickly. It was widely
accepted as an alternative snack for college students bored from the regular mess food or single
working professionals living in the busiest cities of India. It gave mothers a tool to quench hunger of
children and also acted as a reward for children after doing something good. Mothers always knew
that it wasn t the healthiest food around but they tend to rationalise the argument by adding their own
special ingredients like vegetables which were frowned upon by children but were easily consumed as
part of Maggi. There were many recipes apart from the general two minute one to match the snack to
diverse tastes of India. The dishes ranged from Maggi sandwiches to Maggi cutlets. The company also
launched many variants in its product line like Maggi soup and a healthy substitute, Atta

Abstract
General monetary thinking impressively impacts Market Based Management (MBM). Opportunity

The Importance Of English As An Official Language
Most people assume that english is the official language of the United States, however this is not the
case, as there is no official language in the states. Since the origins of the country, english has
consistently been spoken across the land, however it has never been established as the official
language. America is a melting pot of cultures and the same can be said for it s languages. Citizens in
America speak an array of languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Gujrati, Urdu and
hundreds more. However, with the amount of languages spoken in America, an official language is the
glue needed to connect citizens The increase in languages spoken in America, is directly proportional
to the increase in Immigration. America has been built on the back of these immigrants, but because
they come from different backgrounds they need to define what it means to be American. Establishing
english as the official language gives all citizens common ground, developing english into not only a
language, but an important aspect of being, American. Several states have already established english
as their official language, and they have seen an increased involvement of their immigrants in not only
their societies, but their economies. Establishing english as the official language across the United
States reaps several financial and social benefits, and is a required step in achieving unity.
Making english the USA s official language will increase immigrant s opportunities in the

How Did Woodrow Wilson Progressivisms

Group Presentation: Progressivisms
Woodrow Wilsons Acts to Progressivisms
In the year of 1912, Democrat electoral candidate Woodrow Wilson was running in the Presidential
Election against T.R. Roosevelt, W. Taft and E. Debs. After winning by a sland slide, and being
nominated as the 28th President of the United State. President Wilson quickly went to work to save
this nation from them, thus he created 2 antitrust laws and establishing the first federal bank.
Thus, in 1912 Wilson started to reshape America The Federal Reserve Act of 1912 was the beginning
of President Wilson s one of three progressivisms acts, within the first 2 yrs. of him being in power.
This was Wilson s first act as President and his progressive movement to help and stabilize a nation
from an economic depression, unfair labor exploitations, and end of corporate monopolies.
I do not want a government that will take care of me, he declared. I want a government that will make
other men take their hands off so I can take care of myself. Woodrow Wilson:
This act states law help reconstructed the national banking and currency system. This was an effort to
regulate the country s credit and monetary affairs. It provided a central institution that could hold the
reserves of the commercial banks and increase those reserves, thereby making the nation s money
supply more elastic in order to cope with changing economic conditions, especially with an economy
recovering from a depression. In

Comic Books And Television Gave Birth To A Fascination
Comic books and television gave birth to a fascination with superheroes. Superheroes are people with
extraordinary powers or financial privileges who defend civilization against crimes and villains of all
kinds without hesitation. For example, Batman is a superhero who solved riddles and defeated an
enemy who sought to deceive people and bring about their demise. He fought and defeated several
other arch nemeses who desired to destroy the city of Gotham and slaughter its residents. In The Dark
Knight trilogy, Batman fought his final battle, and died a substitutionary death. He carried a nuclear
bomb away from the city of Gotham that his enemy intended to destroy the city, thus dying in the
place of Gotham s residents. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
14:21 22; Jos. 3:15 16; Jos. 10:13). Furthermore, the New Testament provides evidence that links
Jesus to the act of creation. John, Paul, and the author of Hebrews describe Jesus as the Creator,
Sustainer, and the One whom all things exist (John 1:1 5; Col. 1:15 19; Heb. 1:1 4). Yet, for a short
time, Jesus chose to bound himself by the time space continuum when he became man and made a
sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. During said time, many of the gospel writers recorded a situation
when Jesus commanded raging seas to become calm and they obeyed (Matt. 8:23 37; Mark 4:35 41;
Luke 8:22 25). Furthermore, the gospel writers record Jesus physically walking on the seas (Matt.
14:22 36; Mark 6:45 56). Therefore, both Old Testament and New Testament writers confirm Jesus
role in creation and his sovereignty over all nature, thus making him a modern day superhero. Second,
one characteristic of a superhero is his/her willingness to surrender his/her life in the place of another.
Jesus displayed his willingness to surrender his life for others when he died a horrific death in died on
the place of sinners. Jesus death was necessary, whereas superhero s deaths can be avoided. Jesus
death is necessary because God s people broke their harmonious relationship with him as a result of
disobedience. In fact, Paul compares sinners to a dead body because of their sin (Eph. 2:1). However,
Jesus became a man of suffering and bore the pain and problems of humanity without

The Scientific Revolution and The Enlightenment Essay
The Scientific Revolution and The Enlightenment In the 17th Century, there was much controversy
between religion and science. The church supported a single worldview that God s creation was the
center of the universe. The kings and rulers were set in their ways to set the people s minds to believe
this and to never question it. From these ideas, the Enlightenment was bred from the Scientific
Revolution. Nicholas Copernicus was the first to question the universal truths and teachings of the
church. He devised a theory that the earth along with the other planets revolved around the sun. This
theory disagreed with Aristotle and the old teachings that the universe revolved around the earth, and
that man was the center of the universe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
iii Galileo Galilei was also a supporter of the Copernican Theory. Galileo believed the earth, and other
planets, rotated on its axis around the unmoving sun. He used his new invention of the telescope to
prove Copernicus theory. With the telescope, Galileo found sunspots on the earth s moon, which gave
proof to him that the heavens were not perfect and changeless but were more like the changeable
earth. iv He also discovered Jupiter and the four moons that revolved around it. He only discovered
one moon revolving around the earth. Galileo therefore stated if Jupiter were to revolve around the
earth, then the earth would have to have at least four moons, and it doesn t. v The Church objected
Galileo s theory because the Bible said the sun moved through the sky. Being totally rejected by the
church, Galileo was forced to take back what he had written and was also prevented from any further
teachings of his theory. Galileo was condemned by the Catholic Church for his ideas. The Church
succeeded in silencing Galileo but couldn t stop the advancements in science. The goal of the
Scientific Revolution was to glorify God by showing universality by which nature operates.
Traditional Christians felt the new scientific breakthroughs were contradictory to God. They believed
these theories took away from the belief that God s creation was the center of the universe. From the

Shitty First Drafts By Anne Lammott Analysis
Writing is something we have been used to since childhood. Beginning to write with just a few words
and activities to improve our pendmanship. From easy sentences we all gradually improve our writing,
as expected from higher levels of education. However, throughout all this time, many of us have been
writing blind. Only writing what is seen an necessary, oblivious to the true skill and precision it takes
to actually write quality work. Through the use of Anne Lammott s article Shitty First Drafts and
personal experiences, I will advice you, my fellow freshman, on certain a aspect of writing that you
may not have known prior to joining the college world, as well as offer some life advice.
To begin, in Anne Lammott s article Shitty First Drafts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking from prior experience, I have never been one to openly allow someone else to revise my
work or even allow them to view it at all. I am quite a bit too shy for that. However, Lommet makes
some valid points. All throughout my life, I have gotten by on the basics of writing. I was unaware of
the amount of work that takes place in writing. Writing is much more than it seems to be. Simply
writing is not suffice in the understanding of the skillful process. I have come to realization that
writing is just as critical as assembling a car. In the same sense, building a car is about precision and
piecing many parts together for the overall outcome of a successful, running automobile. Even then,
there may be room for improvements down the line, but in the meantime it is good to produce the best
work possible. Writing can be just as critical because it involves a vast variety of things as well. There
is more to take into account than simply typing or jotting down words. Writing involves grammar,
spelling, punctuation, intended audience, etc... These things of which can become quite confusing,
attempting to make them all flow in a smooth,

Black Male Achievement Programs

marginalized communities does not exist in a vacuum, partnerships with like minded organizations
that can play an extremely important role in expanding the efforts of the WRF MMWEC beyond
Arkansas and create help create a national plan of action. One such partnership is with organizations
like the Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE) Black Male Funders Learning Action
Network (LAN), which is a network of funders that currently direct resources to initiatives to improve
life outcomes for Black males. By partnering and receiving financial support from ABFE, the ability

Through its affiliate offices, ARCF makes grants from affiliate fundraising and endowments. ARCF
awards Giving Tree and Black Hall of Fame Grants and the Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building
Community. The Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building Community is funded through a gift from
the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. MMWEC would be a good fit for the Arkansas Delta Endowment
Building Program and the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Grant. Because WRF MMWEC plans to
launch in several communities in Arkansas with a focus on the most marginalized, our state s capital,
and the Arkansas Delta, we are in a position to apply for funding through each of the counties we
serve for the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame grants. This will allow us to customize the funding needs
based on our needs assessment of each county. The Arkansas Delta Endowment for Building
Community focuses on delta counties in Arkansas, which are some our launch priority counties. This
grant will be a good fit for MMWEC as our program accomplishes each of the desired goals of the
grant: improving the conditions of people and families in the Arkansas Delta, building local capacity
and infrastructure in the Arkansas Delta and foster networks and

  • 2. The Negative And Positive Connotation On Speech Communities There is negative and positive connotation on speech communities based on what social media portrays for each group. This issue within society is that we see language as a system and right or wrong. An example is Slang, African American Vernacular language and also. When hearing slang people tend to assume that the person or group using it comes from a lower class. One misconception is that an individual that is using AAE is a product of a lower income community. Proper and non proper speech is correlated to economic and social status of speaker. An example for African American Vernacular language was presented through the video Who else done messed up? In this video the substitute was using African American Vernacular English when pronouncing the student s names there was voice stops devoiced at the end of the names, consonant cluster deduction and vocalization in names but when giving instruction none of these features appeared. The negative connotation in this video is the substitute was speaking in commonly used English that would be considered AAVE but because it is believed that only African Americans use AAVE the video shows how there was only one person that understood the substitute enunciation and is was a young African American male. There is a misconception that each country has one language but in reality, this is a variety of dialects within each one. Another fallacy/ mistaken belief is that an individual that is using AAE is non educated, that is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Morality In The Lottery When thinking of traditions, the first few that come to mind are putting up the Christmas tree, going to the fair, and many others. Traditions intertwine between families and others as well, and even nationwide. However, there are some traditions that we are not able to fathom. For example, in The Lottery , there is a lottery drawn every year for a good crop season. During this tradition, one person from the community is stoned to death as a sacrifice. Why don t people question traditions like this? People who grow up in certain communities do things a little different than their neighboring towns, because it is what they have known their entire life. To them, it is normal . Consistency is like a drug due to the fact that people do not always adapt well. People often fixate on repeated circumstances and the outcome can be detrimental. Repeating the lottery every year in their town is quite out of the morality I have, however, it is the tradition they all are familiar with. Shockingly enough, the world continuously changes while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe this exist in every society. Looking into my own traditions after reading The Lottery , I am more aware of the impact they have on my life and the one s who take part in the same traditions. It is easy to follow the norm of a tradition because of the lifestyle you were shown as a kid. Watching the fireworks on the fourth of July, participating in the hunting of Easter eggs, and also preparing Thanksgiving dinner never brought a question to my mind such as, Why am I doing this? . As a child you are dependent on your parents and there is usually no question as to why they are doing the things they do each year just like those who participated in the stoning. Some of the people who threw stones were little boys and girls who thought this incidence was okay because it was a tradition. The town where it took place could not let go of the ... • 4. The Border Between Mexico And United States Essay Introduction The United States has led the fight against criminal activities from Mexican borders for many years. Criminal activities along the United States and Mexican border range from drug trafficking, human smuggling and an economy that disruptive. These are illegal activities scholars have argued could lead to the failure of Mexico as a country and the spread of violence to the United States. The illegal activities are not only a threat to the economy of Mexico and United States but also to the rest of the world due the impacts associated. The border between Mexico and US is of essential significance because it provides the link between the two countries. The border provides passageways through which either country can access the other via land or air means. Although the border is of significance to both countries, smuggling of drugs and trafficking human are main causes of violence between the countries. Drug cartels in Mexico smuggle drugs into the United States and this drives a war between them and the US government. The economy and the peace between Mexico and US is also affected significantly due to the illegal activities. To minimize the violence caused by these illegal activities, the US government need to act against the activities. The United States needs to increase the economic aid and military intervention to Mexico to fight the drug cartels, otherwise it could become a failed state; spreading more violence across the US border. • 5. Discrimination And Prejudice And Discrimination Discrimination comes in a number of forms. We have age discrimination, employment or job discrimination, racial discrimination, gender discrimination, reverse discrimination, sexual discrimination, and others. Prejudice is a negative attitude toward a socially defined group and toward any person perceived to be a member of that group (Burgess, 2003). The purpose of her research was to talk about discrimination and prejudices and the affect they have on our day to day lives. She also defines prejudice and discrimination and takes a look at their relationship to stereotyping and racism. According to Burgess, stereotyping often leads to prejudice and discrimination, with its definition almost mirroring that of prejudice. Stereotypes or characterizations are generalizations or assumptions that people make about the characteristics of all members of a group, based on an image, often wrong, about what people in that group are like. We are told that it does not allow for individuals to be different, but names them all as one group (Burgess, 2003). Much as her research does, I d like to discuss the different types of discrimination and prejudice and how we might eliminate it. In the text chosen for this course, Managing Diversity People Skills for a Multicultural Workplace, the author reminds its readers that America has been a segmented society and that de facto segregation is still common. • 6. Competitive Market Demand CESARANO FRANCESCO ESSAY N.3 SUPPLY AND DEMAND WITH THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET The concept of competitive market can be explained by saying that there is a large number of firms competing each other with a large number of buyers, selling an identical product. There is also perfectly freedom to entry and to leave the industry. One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. This lead to a perfectly elastic demand curve for any given product. The last presumption is that the producer and consumers are aware of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the high volume of participants, either a central bank or a single individual cannot interfere with the current price against market speculation and therefore they are price taker . There are many theories developed by economist trying to explain how exchange rate move, but none of them has so far proved to be very accurate with the future exchange rate moves predicted. On one side there are the technical analysts which believe that all the economic studies such as inflation, interest rate, etc. are already known by the market and are reflected in the current price. The chartists as they are also known, study charts that represents price movement over a period and claim that future repetition of certain patterns can be predicted. Although Economist don t approve Technical analyst approach, in the last two decades it had great influence on the forex market. On the other side there is the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) which states that the rate will adjust to the point where international purchasing power is equal. In other word that mean that the price of any good would be the same in every country, a simple example would be like The Economist states in its Big Mac index. • 7. Social Influence of Television Advertisement on Children a... CHAPTER ONE 1. BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Social influence is defined as a change in an individual s thoughts, feelings, attitudes, or behaviors that results from interaction with another individual or a group of people . Social influence is distinct from conformity, power, and authority. French and Raven (1959) provided an early formalization of the concept of social influence in their discussion of the bases of social power. For French and Raven, agents of change included not just individuals and groups, but also norms and roles. They viewed social influence as the outcome of the exertion of social power from one of five bases: reward power, coercive power, legitimate power, expert power, or referent power. Well when a young child sees something like that they can only think but to go try it themselves and maybe they will have fun and enjoy themselves. Children that are trying smoking are becoming younger and younger. Smoking has nothing good to offer to children but health problems later on in life. Television impacts children the most as far as advertising goes. Many children as young as three years old recognize brand named products and clothing. When these children spend time watching so much television they cannot help but be influenced by it; and want what they see. These children become so obsessed with having what they see on television that they continue to hassle their parents until they get it Some parents may even have trouble keeping up with the amount of money theft child thinks that they need so they may have the newest products out there. These children that are watching more television, are going to want more toys seen in advertisements and eat more advertised food than children who do not watch as much television (Strasburger, 2001). The British Medical Association, responding to the Government s White Paper of November 2004, recommends an outright ban on advertising foods to children in the UK (see British ... The thirteenth amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime of which the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Library of Congress). Slavery started in the year 1619 in the Northern American colonies and continued to grow until the nation became divided between those who supported slavery and the others who did not support slavery (History.com Staff, 2009). Slaves were beaten, worked to extreme exhaustion, and never given proper care. Many of these slaves worked the tobacco farms and helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. While this amendment alone was not enough to completely stop slavery, it was a commencement to change the future. For every change, there must be a start, and the thirteenth amendment offered a start to those who endured cruel unequal treatment. This amendment would establish freedom and would allow Congress the power to define freedom. The thirteenth amendment was extremely controversial. Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Benjamin Rush were some of the first to form an abolition group against slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Prosperity and Violence, the Political Economy of Development, Harvard academic Robert H. Bates gives insight on the relationship between political order and economic growth. By analyzing the revolution of agrarian societies to industrial societies, he argues that as these transitions occur, violence is often used to strengthen the system of production. In spite of Third World countries similar pre industrial history and early policies aimed at industrializing, Third World countries have not had the same growth as most European countries. Even though the monarch had to relinquish power to the people, it was in the monarchs advantage. They led persuared them to buy into the monarchs desire for war and as a result the monarch received more money from the people. Bates argues that some institutions in European states were forged by war. The absence of this threat would prevent the new juridical states from developing parallel institutions. In order to achieve prosperity, states require a shift from subsistence agriculture and kin based mechanisms of enforcement to specialization within urban city centers. Rulers replace kin networks as the source for the threat of violence, which was necessary to ensure security of person, property and contracts. Bates states, Governments pursued policies that promoted the growth of the economy and the rise of parliamentary institutions not because they wanted to but because they had to, the better to secure the resources with which to fight (56). Rulers made themselves attractive to private creditors and encouraged their subjects to invest in capital because they believe their investments were safe. This resulted in economic growth and, therefore, tax revenue. Another key argument Bates presents is the importance of investing to promote economic development. Without a proficient state to control violence, people in societies will mainly focus on consumption instead of investment. It is almost human nature to think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Compare And Contrast Jack And Ralph In Lord Of The Flies In the classic novel, The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, it explores the themes of the different perspectives and ideologies humans use to civilize themselves. In the novel, the main protagonist Ralph best represents the logical point of view, attempting to conserve the utopian island, while the antagonist Jack best illustrates the savage point of view, which results in the creation of a dystopia based on his lust for enjoyment. In Lord of The Flies, even though both Ralph and Jack represent different ideologies, they do possess some similarities between them. While both characters have different leading styles, it can be argued that they are effective leaders. They are both adverse in inspiring those their followers, the boys in the island, with Ralph using hope for returning to motivate the rest of the boys stranded in the island, while Jack uses fear against the beast as a catalyst for his seizing of power. In my opinion, this similarity is the reason why these two different pathways were capable of remaining popular among the boys or what they symbolize, society. The reason for this is because as social creatures, humans need to have a high morale to be able to achieve progress, which is something that requires capable leaders. Jack used a particularly cruel method by making the beast as a sort of religion for the boys by using it as a figurehead for his power. He treated the beast like a deity when he stated that the, head is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is evident that, businesses, interest groups and labor unions are spending more than $100 million a month to lobby the federal government (Associated Press, SFC, 3/7/98). As I delved further into the book, I became increasingly invested in Marjane s family and their views opposing the revolution, along with their efforts to dispel the characterizations of their country s fundamentalism and terrorism. While not as extreme, it reminds of how of I tend to defy certain norms in my own household. My parents, being rather conservative Christians, hold some views that are rather narrow minded. From the rhythmic qualities, to the symbolism, no opinion is wrong. In the 18th century a differently style of poetry came about known as Romanticism, or the Romantic Era. Romanticism focuses on several characteristics imagination, emotion, nature, personal life, symbolism, and individualism. Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Tintern Abbey both highlight these ideas as well as Ralph Waldo Emerson. Similar to Kubla Khan , Wordsworth starts his poem off by saying Five years have past; fiver summers, with the length of five long winters! . This to me is important, because it shows how so much time has passed, but yet for him nothing has changed. Wordsworth then questions on whether or not he should leave his secluded area. Emerson at this point would then take this and say how the figurative use of Wordsworth to state how its first the fact; second its impression, or what I thin of it . Emerson would use the literal impression of 5 years going by, followed by the descriptive part of time going by. The day is come when I again repose , also shows the impression of how much time has passed by. The character that Wordsworth is painting, shows us that he has been secluded for so long that he does not necessarily know how to participate in life, or act around other people. With some uncertain notice, as might seem. Of vagrant dwellers in the houseless woods, Or of some Hermit s cave, where by his fire The Hermit sits alone. Just by those couple of lines, we truly do understand how alone this character is. • 22. The Effects Of Migration On Higher Educational Aspirations Introduction If one were to evaluate the impact of immigration, it can be said that it alters the way in which one interprets a certain culture or idea. Immigration can shape the way parents see the future of their child, specifically their academic and career aspirations. The parents may hold different expectations for their children, in terms of their desire for a better future for their children. However, it can also affect the manner in which the child accomplishes these goals. In this paper, I will examine the effects of migration on higher educational aspirations for the children of immigrants, because it is important to note how the migrant s experience influences the desires for their children. I will focus on the three reasons that can influence their aspirations: motivations for migration, expectations for children and academic performance of the children. I argue that to fully understand how migration affects educational aspirations, it is necessary to focus on the reasons that migration was made possible for Latina migrant womens, considering the economic and political histories of Latin America and the United States. It is also important to note what the educational aspirations are, and to consider the academic performances of the children of migrant workers, to see whether or not they are living up to these expectations. Results demonstrate that the outcomes can be mixed, as some children may live up to the aspirations while others are held back due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of theses stories hold similarities and difference that alter the course of the main character. Both Beowulf and Gilgamesh took vast journeys in their ruling as leaders, but they each took the journeys for different reasons. These two epic heroes of british literature both used the up in coming benefits of christianity in their journeys expressed in the novels, yet the two characters used the beliefs in different ways. One difference that lies in the two epic heroes is how christianity is perceived through the epics. During Beowulf s journey he specifically prayed to the Gods for guidance in the battles with both Grendel and his mother. While in Gilgamesh the story contained a motif to Noah s Flood, and this leads to shaping Gilgamesh into a greater king because it gives him a story to tell. Analysis Of Howard Zinn s The United States There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written from records left by the privileged. ― Howard Zinn, A People s History of the United States Zinn once remarked, Objectivity is impossible and it is also undesirable. That is, if it were possible it would be undesirable, because if you have any kind of a social aim, if you think history should serve society in some way; should serve the progress of the human race; should serve justice in some way, then it requires that you make your selection on the basis of what you think will advance causes of humanity (Flynn). It is pretty clear to the reader that Zinn believes that socialism and Communism are systems that advance the cause of humanity, and that America is a reactionary, terrorist state; those beliefs form the foundation of his tendentious and error ridden book. In A People s History of the United States, greed is the explanation for every major historical event. As we see in Zinn s book, just to name a few examples, the separation from Great Britain, the Civil War, and World Wars I and II were driven by motives involving rich Americans more or less seeking to improve themselves at the expenses of others. Awhile later, Elizabeth along with her aunt and uncle, mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, decided to tour the home of Mr. Darcy, Pemberley. Her vision of Mr. Darcy soon changes after this visit. Through the discussion between Mr. Darcy s housekeeper, Mrs. Reynolds, Elizabeth learns of Mr. Wickham s true nature. She explains He has turned out very wild (303). Mrs. Reynolds goes on and compliments Mr. Darcy s looks, kind heartedness, and generosity. Elizabeth had not seen this side of Mr. Darcy until he surprised them at Pemberley. Elizabeth thought to herself about his behaviour, so strikingly altered what could it mean? That he should even speak to her was amazing! but to speak with such civility, to inquire after her family! Never in her life had she seen his manners so little dignified, never had he spoken with such gentleness as on this unexpected meeting (310). John, Paul, and the author of Hebrews describe Jesus as the Creator, Sustainer, and the One whom all things exist (John 1:1 5; Col. 1:15 19; Heb. 1:1 4). Yet, for a short time, Jesus chose to bound himself by the time space continuum when he became man and made a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. During said time, many of the gospel writers recorded a situation when Jesus commanded raging seas to become calm and they obeyed (Matt. 8:23 37; Mark 4:35 41; Luke 8:22 25). Furthermore, the gospel writers record Jesus physically walking on the seas (Matt. 14:22 36; Mark 6:45 56). Therefore, both Old Testament and New Testament writers confirm Jesus role in creation and his sovereignty over all nature, thus making him a modern day superhero. • 48. The Scientific Revolution and The Enlightenment Essay The Scientific Revolution and The Enlightenment In the 17th Century, there was much controversy between religion and science. The church supported a single worldview that God s creation was the center of the universe. The kings and rulers were set in their ways to set the people s minds to believe this and to never question it. From these ideas, the Enlightenment was bred from the Scientific Revolution. Nicholas Copernicus was the first to question the universal truths and teachings of the church. He devised a theory that the earth along with the other planets revolved around the sun. This theory disagreed with Aristotle and the old teachings that the universe revolved around the earth, and that man was the center of the universe. ... He used his new invention of the telescope to prove Copernicus theory. With the telescope, Galileo found sunspots on the earth s moon, which gave proof to him that the heavens were not perfect and changeless but were more like the changeable earth. iv He also discovered Jupiter and the four moons that revolved around it. He only discovered one moon revolving around the earth. Galileo therefore stated if Jupiter were to revolve around the earth, then the earth would have to have at least four moons, and it doesn t. v The Church objected Galileo s theory because the Bible said the sun moved through the sky. Being totally rejected by the church, Galileo was forced to take back what he had written and was also prevented from any further teachings of his theory. Galileo was condemned by the Catholic Church for his ideas. The Church succeeded in silencing Galileo but couldn t stop the advancements in science. The goal of the Scientific Revolution was to glorify God by showing universality by which nature operates. Traditional Christians felt the new scientific breakthroughs were contradictory to God.
