The Lottery Symbolism Essay
One of most interesting parts of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is simply trying to understand what
the symbols in the story mean. These symbols included the lottery, the tools used in the lottery and
even the people of the town.
Within the first few lines of Shirley Jackson described a picture of a clear, sunny, fresh and warm
summer day. She continues this sense of comfort by adding small children playing after being released
from school for the summer, and the townspeople gathering calmly for the annual Lottery . Jackson
leads us into believing that the story is going to be a happy cheery one just as the summer day that she
initially described. Man, where we mislead! Through the use of symbolism, Shirley Jackson reveals to
the us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows Mr. Summers lack of empathy for his fellow townspeople, even thou their fate rests in his
hands. Another great name in this story belongs to Mr. Summer s assistants. His name is Mr. Graves,
which does not become meaningful until the end of the story. Old Man Warner s character represents
the stubborn, closed minded, old traditional way of thinking that supports this mindless type of rituals.
His answer to the comment made that some places up north giving up the lottery was, Pack of crazy
fools listening to the young folks, nothing s good enough for them. His reasoning was, There s always
been a lottery . He had been involved in the lottery for 77 years, which has him believing that the town
was still doing the correct thing, it is tradition after all.
The method of execution at the end of the story is certainly not random. Stoning is one of the oldest
and most common forms of execution, but it is also one of the most symbolic. It has strong connection
to many people due to its use throughout The Bible. One reason, that stoning was used in the past as
well as the reason that it is important in this story is that there is no single executioner. This means that
there is not a single person that has passed judgment or has to carry the guilt for taking a life alone.
This is important for the story of The Lottery because it helps to make clear who the enemy in

Health Care Trends and Perceptions Regarding the Insurance...
Health Care
Determine what correlations can be made regarding the increase in population and the public
perception of the health insurance system. Be sure to present your thoughts in a credible manner that
is non offensive yet factual.
The population has been steadily increasing in the United States since its founding. For a long period
the US led the industrialized world in its fertility rate however, though this rate has slowed in recent
generations with Americans having few babies per household, immigration into the US has become
one of the main drivers of the expanding population (Wang, 2013). Furthermore, the population is also
steadily aging and therefore often requires more in terms of health care services. All of these factors
contribute to a trend in which health care accessibility is becoming more and more limited in all types
of coverage s. For example, those who have private health insurance may be faced with higher out of
pocket costs and limited services to attempt to control costs while those without private insurance
could be potentially excluded from service all together. One study found that in 2007 nearly two thirds
of all bankruptcies were related to medical expenses; a trend that has been rapidly increasing since the
turn of the century (McCarthy, 2009). It is reasonable to believe that such trends correlate to a
negative perception of the health insurance system.
Consider the health trends in the U.S. over the last two decades and make some

The Dining Halls At Virginia State University
Food plays an important role in our lives, especially in college. Food affects people financially,
nutritionally, and educationally. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of
meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these dining
halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the limited
options we have.
At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they spend
$4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if they
were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be receiving
a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited choices at VSU;
usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or Foster, you are forced
to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become quite expensive for an
unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students who do not have
transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are located on the main
campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have to walk across campus
for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline to take the long walk for
café food that isn t even satisfying.

Back in 1950s, my mother used to tell us that we couldn t speak in Mayangna out loud, because
people would call us el sumito, el indito. If we thought and spoke as Mayangnas, we could be locked
up (that is what she told us). But now with the struggle of Indigenous Peoples, now with publications
about Indigenous Peoples, we can speak in public in our language. We now confront, however, new
threats: we can lose our identity, losing our land, our traditional medicines with the introduction of
transformed seeds, and the imposition of another identity. 1
This comment by one of the subjects interviewed reveals the continuation of expressions of
discrimination in the daily life of Indigenous communities in the Caribbean

Niyazov And Isolation
1984, is a book that was published in 1949 and written by George Orwell. His reason for writing the
book was the hope that humans would read it and come to a realization that our world was headed
toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in first world
countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he was. These
terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these cruel environments
are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best country in the world, and
that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. The harsh reality is that these people
are actually being starved, neglected, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very
young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Perhaps
though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger for power is to
blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely created something
huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could. Controlling the minds of his
people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change their beliefs, their routines, their
individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in being one of the world s dictators (
Saparmurat Niyazov. ) Turkmenbashi put many laws in place of ridiculous nature, because he able to.
He named some of the months and days of the weeks after his family. Only six years after he had
become President, he ban smoking because after a major heart surgery he had quit. Other things like
music, dance, and long hair on men were also halted, simply because he did not like them ( Obituary:
Saparmurat Niyazov ). Niyazov also neglected his citizens. He starved worked his people to the bone.
Today, Turkmenistan is lead by a man who works in a very similar way to that of Niyazov. His name
is Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and he has transitioned the country to start favoring him over their
old great leader and they have begun to be recreate the country for the new President.
Berdimuhamedov has not changed much other than that though. He is running things in the same type
of dictatorship that Turkmenbashi left behind. The people in the country are still isolated, without any
freedoms or necessary rights provided to them. ( Saparmurat

Critique Of Stephen Seamands Ministry
Critique of Stephen Seamands Ministry in the Image of God
Trinitarian Ministry Stephen Seamands proffers a Trinitarian description of Christian Ministry as the
ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son, to the Father, through the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the church and
the world. The author seems to presume that many in the Christian faith have not adequately observed
or applied the doctrine of the Trinity significantly in the vocation of ministry. It is with this perception
that he postulates a Trinitarian approach of ministry that emphasizes communion with God shaping
our language about God to shape our heart so we might share in the life of God. In arriving at his
conclusions, Seamands uses well grounded Scriptural foundations, along with a descriptive of the Icon
of the Holy Trinity painted in 1425 by a Russian Monk, Andrei Rublev, including the historical
significance that is traced back to the Enlightenment, and the findings of renowned theologians
beginning with Karl Barth. The preponderance of evidence provided supports the author s contention
that the grammar of the Christian faith and life is rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity having created
the current Trinitarian renaissance. There are three foundational points in this theological approach
that provide comprehension for that which seems beyond understanding God in one being; God in
three persons. First, the main idea is centered on joining with Christ in the continuing ministry that
substantiates the

Artificial Intelligence In Nicholas Carr s Is Google...
The Advancement of Intelligence With every passing year, it seems as though humans are becoming
more attached to their electronic devices as technology advances at an astounding rate. As a result of
this, many people believe that the trade off for having such advanced technology is a decrease in
overall brain function, a point that is essentially what Nicholas Carr is arguing is true in his essay Is
Google Making Us Stupid?. However, a majority of Carr s argument lies in the fact that people do not
read as much because of the Internet, only want information directly given to them instead of having
to read through pages of words, and are becoming dangerously reliant on artificial intelligence.
However, based on the recent surge of technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, he bluntly says throughout his article that the Internet and search engines such as Google
are making us stupid . He goes on to explain how the rise of the internet is adverse to the intellectual
mind because it is starting to replace physical reading, and reading allows for intellectual vibrations to
be set off within the minds of the people (Carr 28). However, it clear to see that as technology evolves,
so does the world and its views on what is considered to be intellectual. While people may not be
reading as many physical books anymore, they do tend to educate themselves on the world around
them in other ways. Even on seemingly casual social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram,
people speak out about what they understand and feel about the world around them, showing how
intellectual vibrations are now set off differently than in years past. A technology press conference, a
controversial social media post, or a compelling article from an online news source could get a person
to deeply think about something just any form of physical print would be able to; this is made evident
by how the younger generations are currently using the Internet and its sites. In fact, Carr even quotes
an Italian humanist by the name of Hieronimo Squarciafico who stated that the introduction of the
Gutenberg printing press and readily available publications would make men less studious (28).
However, the introduction of readily available literature has proven to have had the opposite effect,
with the most studious of people accepting books and other printed publications as some of their most
treasured intellectual resources. In the same way, a parallel can be drawn to the Internet, which will
likely turn out to be a blessing for intellectuals around the world just as the printing press was all those
years ago. With knowledge and

The Crossover Quotes
Have you ever felt left out or pushed away from others? In the novel, The Crossover, by Kwame
Alexander. I chose to write about the main character Josh Bell. Josh Bell is a caring, immature and
athletic teen who, through a series of trials comes of age. Josh Bell is caring because in the book it
says, Tell him a joke. He doesn t even smile...Do his chores. He pays no attention...Say I m sorry but
he won t listen (145), this quote shows he is very sorry that he hurt his brother and made him go to the
hospital. In the book it also says, Well, I will talk to her about this job thing, since it means so much to
you. (167), this piece of evidence shows that Josh cares about his father and is even willing to talk to
his mom to convince her to let him take the job. These two quotes show how Josh is a caring teenager.
Josh Bell is also very immature because in the book it says, Today, I plan on passing the ball to JB, but
when I hear him say Filthy, give me the ball, I dribble over to my brother and fire a pass so hard, it
levels him (134), this quote shows that he acted immaturely and without thinking or caring about what
would happen to his brother. In the book it also says, Me and dad stare at each other for ten minutes
without saying a word. I tell him, I have nothing to say. (208), this evidence shows ... Show more

JB says. And for the first time in my life I don t want to be. (225), this evidence from the book suggest
that he would rather have his dad back in his life then be the man of the family. These two pieces of

Quiet By Susan Cain Summary
Susan Cain s (2012) non fiction book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can t Stop
Talking, investigates and studies the misconceived values and traits of introverts. Cain delves further
in exploring the extroverts and the ones who disguise themselves as extroverts, hiding their true
introvert selves. Her initiative is to take a look at how the Western culture and life has designed
everything around extroverts, ignoring and dismissing some of the introverts to psychological
discomfort and some to pretending to be extroverts. Cain provides an informative, inspirational, but,
yet, a questioning tone that could allow one to apply this book to their own life. Cain is an American
writer, author, and lecturer. She holds a JD degree ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming that the introverts and extroverts have about the same amount of good and bad ideas, then
the main concern should be if the outgoing individuals conquer take the spotlight. Thus, great amounts
of good ideas drown within a sea of prevailing bad ideas. Additionally, Cain finds that talkers are often
perceived as smarter than their quiet and reserved counterparts. However, research suggests that there
s no such link [between more talking and better insight] die in part to GPA s and SAT scores (Cain,
2012, p. 222). Moreover, talkers are seen as leaders: the more talkative one is, the more group
members pay attention. This ultimately means the speaker has gained more control and power of said
group. But, Cain suggests that introverts make good leaders due to them being attentive to gather key
information and offer ideas, rather than overpowering a discussion. From observation, the introvert
benefits from the abilities of their peers to motivate and give them tasks best suited to their individual
abilities (Cain, 2012, p.

Comparing Macbeth And Goold s Play
Macbeth, a play written by Shakespeare in 1606 is a tragedy surrounding a man Macbeth as he
unknowingly seals his own fate due to his own excessive ambition and greed. This tragedy has since
been taken to the big screen by many, one of which is director Rupert Goold. In 2010 Goold released a
television film version of play on the BBC. Despite the differences between the two, the movie does
effectively convey the overall message of the original story.
In Goold s version, we see pivotal moments such as the breaking of Macbeth and Lady Macbeths
bond. This moment is stressed just as much in the film as it is in the play because not only does it
show the breaking of such a strong bond, but it also leads into another important moment in which
Lady Macbeth is starting to get sort of delirious. The film also keeps up with the play and how it
makes sure to highlight certain symbols and motifs such as blood and darkness through setting and
lighting choice, special effects, staying true to the lines, etc. the director even goes as far as to
reinforce death through a different motif (dead children). As well as using dead bodies as apparitions.
All together the director has combined all these elements of the play to work well in film and show the
original theme/message of the play appropriately. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the movie is set during the Soviet Union, hinting at both the rule of Joseph Stalin who
was a power hungry man just like Macbeth (this connection is made through the portraits of Macbeth
shown throughout the film). While this does reinforce Macbeth s thirst for power, for some viewers it
is a little farfetched. In comparison to the play, film also uses modern day weaponry/methods of
fighting. But does not change the lines for such circumstances, and this for some, may also have a

The Importance Of Immorality And The Value Of Life
In our minds we are warned and aware of the future and what it will bring to us. This is found most
clearly in the men of the loftiest genius and greatest souls. They wonder why they should toil and
strain in life when it is much easier to do the basic necessities. However, many people of the past and
present have sacrificed their lives for something that they believe in and value. This can be many
different ideas and institutions of life. Many that sacrifice do this because of the thought that their
names and deeds would continue after them. They believed in the idea of immortality, not of the body,
but rather of the soul and that it will continue long after them. This is supported by the voice of nature
and the general opinion of people. Those in great power believe in this idea and this motivates their
actions. This idea even carries over to even poets and philosophers with their desire for fame even
after their death. Their view towards death is important in how they live their lives. A forward thinking
mindset is useful for life and how they prepare for death. This adds to the value of their lives and the
work they perform. I agree that we are aware of the future and act accordingly with the pursuit of
higher things in life. Immorality is an important motivator of how we act.
It is possible for men to meet death with a great tranquillity through the comfort of their own praise.
This is also supported by the idea that death has a time. There is nothing gained by delaying

The Merger of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting Standards

The proliferation and evolution of international trading and commerce have not only opened the
gateway to international markets for many of the world s emerging economies, but they have also
fostered an unprecedented growth in the number of multinational corporations. Spurred by trade
agreements such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the World Trade

The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial information,
however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their structures. For
example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based standard, which has
established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial information. Given its history
and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP
has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that
some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or
manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance,
the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5).
Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the preferred standard of most
accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based standard. The principles based
approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different accounting methods when
preparing financial data. While this practice is praised for its focus on fair values and the freedoms it
provides managers, it is often criticized for being far too subjective and inviting a human element that
could increase the risk of financial

A Dolls House In the time period during which A Dolls House by Isben was set a woman s place was
to been seen and not heard, to be submissive to her husband s wishes. Much like a living doll
possessing no independent thoughts of her own. In the beginning Nora accepts her role as Torvalds
doll but as the story progresses she wishes to step out of the role of submissive wife and mother
preferring to find her own place in the world free from Torvalds influence. The way Nora essentially
lives two lives, the first as Torvalds innocent and beautiful while her second life is that of a smart
independent woman able to secure the funds to save her husband s life. She bears this burden in secret

Nora is a character who undergoes radical change over the course of the play. Initalay introduced to us
in Act One as a playful housewife who is faithful and submissive Nora State I would never dream of
doing anything you didn t want me to. (Act 1) This shows some of the gender dynamics of marriages
in the 19th century and also assists in portraying Nora s husband Torvalds hold over her independent
thought. Torvald calls Nora by pet names his little squirrel, his little lark, and, worst of all, a
featherhead, Nora shows no reaction to this behavior (1.5 1.16). Nora seems quite innocent and
childlike in her behavior treating this as terms of endearment rather than insulting due his refusal to
treat her as an equal. Her husband Torvald chides her for her reckless indulgences with their finances
but little does he know she is carrying a secret. There is tension building between Nora and her
husband as it comes to head. There is a clear acknowledgment here that both Nora and Helmer have
been blinded by their self theatricalizing fantasies. Without letting Helmer off the hook, Nora
acknowledges that she

Discuss The Nature Of Evil In The Minister s Black Veil
Additionally, Hawthorne s use of the motif the nature of evil aids to convey the negative effects of
guilt and sin in both The Scarlet Letter and The Minister s Black Veil. In The Scarlet Letter, when
Chillingworth finds out about Hester s affair, his temperament immediately changes. Hawthorne
describes this as, Calm, gentle, passionless, as he appeared, there was yet, we fear, a quiet depth of
malice, hitherto latent, but active now, in this unfortunate old man, which led him to imagine a more
intimate revenge than any mortal had ever wreaked upon an enemy (209). Although the people of the
town view Hester s sins as evil, Chillingworth is actually the most evil of all. He is willing to do
anything for revenge, due to the sin Hester committed by having an affair with Dimmesdale. Harold

Chillingworth becomes so obsessed with the idea exposing Dimmesdale for his sins, he actually ends
up turning evil himself. Chillingworth displays the nature of evil by plotting against Dimmesdale and
dedicating his entire existence towards revenge, eventually driving him mad. Comparatively,
Hawthorne also uses the motif of evil in The Minister s Black Veil to display the negative effects of
guilt and sin. In The Minister s Black Veil, Reverend Hooper wears the veil to take on the evil nature
all of humanity possesses. In doing so, he begins to change as a person. People no longer want him at
their funerals or weddings, and he begins to reflect evil wherever he goes. This is shown at a wedding,

Developing a learning tool to encourage education in a stem subject
Introduction
The aim for this project as has been mentioned is to develop a learning tool to encourage education in
a stem subject, I narrowed this down to developing a game that would help a student learn maths
specifically. Since then I have narrowed this further and have specified that this would be for around
the academic year 7 so around the age of 11 but would still be appropriate for 10 or 12 year olds. To
achieve this aim the objectives will be for one to train in game development as well doing research to
help establish the game mechanics or gamification elements wanted in the game.

As with a lot of articles on the subject of gamification this paper states that the intent of this report is
to define gamification, deconstruct the process of gamifying a learning a learning program, explore
the limitations, and review successful implementations of gamification . In section 2 What is
Gamification the paper gives the example of gamification in action, it talks about an initiative put

Woodticks In Saskatoon By Joy Kogawa Summary
dtick Questions In the poem the speaker s daughter is being mocked by some white children for being
Japanese. The speaker then has a flashback to her time living in Slocan. She remembers the time when
the other white kids made fun of her and she ran into the forest to hide. When she reaches deep into
the forest, she then listens for the voices of the kids to guide her back onto the path, and she vows to
never go near the mountain alone again. Then she flash forwards back to the present and she reassures
her daughter that they do not have woodticks in Saskatoon. From reading the poem it can be
determined that the speaker is the author, Joy Kogawa. One of the major giveaways of this is name of
the daughter: Deidre. Joy Kogawa has a daughter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, upon reading the poem and the uses of the title within in the text we can also see the
allusion drawn to Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, in which there is also a wall within Act
V. In this act, the characters of Thisbe and Pyramus, who are lovers, are separated by a wall and are
only able to communicate through a hole in the wall. Eventually their love for each other proves to be
too strong and the wall then leaves. Parallels that can be drawn to the poem includes whispering
through loose bricks , a reference to the hole in the wall in the play, also when the word dream is used
in the third stanza references the title of the play, while the voice... from the wall can be compared to
the talking wall in the play. The significance of these allusions in the title is that they reinforce the
overall arching theme of the poem that there are always ways past obstacles or barriers and where
these hindrances are, people will always be looking to overcome them. On a literal level, the author
Joy Kogawa explores the various methods to evade a wall. She suggests ,through a door, sneaking,
torturing, bombs, zeppelins, battering rams, whispering through a hole in the wall. All of these are
methods which can work, but the one way we sometimes fail to realize

The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the monarchy
and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional institutions of the
British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began following the term left
and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were unorthodox in their religious or
political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left wing
ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage relative to others
and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or abolished. They propose a
view of human beings living together harmoniously without great disparities in wealth or social
classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology are political positions or activities
that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable, natural, normal or desirable and
typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or traditions.
On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn t

My Teaching Experience In Education
Am I a better teacher after working in the classrooms at BSES and KES? Absolutely. Before student
this experience, my teaching strategies were limited to book knowledge and my experiences of
teaching dance and theatre for the past five years. Working within the school setting, I learned the
importance in being flexible. Each time I entered a school, I generally knew what age student I would
be teaching, the progression of skill I planned to teach them, and how much time I had to complete my
lesson plan. What I did not know was how many students I would be managing, if my students could
speak English, what level of physical competency my students had mastered, or if I would be dealing
with any physical or mental impairments. I learned to think quickly on my feet and to adapt to the
class size; for instance, on my last day of teaching, I had prepared a lesson around using scoops,
because I thought my students already knew how to use them. When I found out they did not know
how to use them, I adapted, by changing from the games I had planned on teaching, to teaching the
basics of handling the scoops and practicing over hand and under hand throws and catching with the
scoops. The new skills were easy for some, yet hard for others; therefore, I adapted exercises to meet
the needs of diverse students. For some, I simplified, and, for others, I made the tasks more difficult.
Ultimately, the students enjoyed learning a new set of skills. Similarly, I learned to be flexible in how I

Longfellow Creek
Longfellow creek is the second largest bearing creek in Seattle. Every year, salmon return to the creek
but few make it all the way to spawning due to the threatened habitat. This is one of many reasons
why they need our help. Restoring the habitat along the creek as well as adjacent greenspaces will
help to improve the water quality and provide the appropriate habitat for the salmon to come (True,
2005). Improving the habitat will help to maintain healthy and thriving forests. They are important to
our community because they absorb and filter rain water, produce clean oxygen, provide living spaces
for wildlife, and create a place for people to connect with the outdoors. Due to their rapid
reproduction, the invasive species are taking away food resources and living space from the native

The Orthodox View Of Orthodox Church
Orthodox is a religion that is talked less among strong Christian believers. Many of the population don
t even know that it exists, youth, and old adults are more likely to discuss the religion Catholicism.
Directly following the social protocol, many think that orthodox is a religion that died out long time
ago and few never learns the history behind of its being in this world. Unlike the other denominations,
Orthodox churches have followed strict rules and scriptures that have been passed down from
generations. Many of my friends may say, Orthodox is not a true religion. Stop wasting your time! As

Tupac Dear Mama Essay
From the day you are born your parents have supported, guided and loved you. We take our parents
unconditional love and support for granted in our busy every day lives. We forget to show our parents
that love back and show we appreciate every effort they put towards us. The song Dear Mama, written
by Tupac Shakur was a song dedicated to his mother to show his appreciation for her. The rapper s
music often displayed his stark contradictions, setting misogyny against praise of strong women, hard
won wisdom against the violence of the thug life (Biography). The song Dear Mama, was heavily
influenced by his family struggles, the choices he has made through his life and the events going on
around him as he grew up. Although, most people look at Tupac Shakur as one of the most influential
rappers of all time, the message he conveys throughout the song is to show appreciation for the people
that love you. When Tupac was born he was already in a life of unusual beginnings. In 1970, Afeni

Annie Get Your Gun By Ethel Merman And Ray Middleton
Anything you do, I can do better; I can do anything, better than you , in Annie Get Your Gun
performed by Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton, is one of many examples that are still battled today
on the topic of gender roles playing essentially to modern society. Historically, the relationship
between female and male has almost always been unequal and oppressive; but, a feminist critic would
aim to critique the nature of gender roles. In a feminist theory, it mainly focuses women s role as well
as their social standing in a society. In today s society, women empower society to promote matriarchy
whereas a female becomes the head of the family. Since the nineteenth century up until today in the
twenty first century, society has made assumptions about female based on their gender. For instance,
people often assume that men are strong and women are weak and that women cannot control their
emotions, and that men are better at hunting, and that women belong in the kitchen. Oftentimes, books
and movies can confirm such stereotypes of males as action heroes and women as housewives;
however, through the characters of Katniss and Peeta in The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins tries to
show her readers that these assumptions are false.
Moreover, Katniss is an individual who breaks away from the typical gender stereotypes that one
would assume while reading. In fact, showing her feminine side to readers, Katniss is simply a
nurturer because of how she takes care of others like Rue and Peeta

Analysis Of Where Have All The Flowers Gone
Where Have All the Flowers Gone
Where did Seeger s song come from? Are the words even his or did he read them in a book a long
time ago? Did he steal the melody? It might be from a railroad song. Many questions surround this
song as the research will show.
Where Have All the Flowers Gone was originally written by Pete Seeger. He took words from the
book And Quiet Flows the Don by Mikhail Sholokhovl, in which Czarist Russia soldiers sang while
riding to join the army. He added a few lines changing the mood from semi mocking to melancholy.
He gave it a melody. His version originally only had the first three verses. Joe Hickerson, a camp
counselor, heard Seeger perform in 1955 and later added two more verses and a rhythm to the song.
Seeger gave him a percentage of the royalties for his contributions and writing credit. The resulting
song is a haunting narrative of the futility and endlessness of the peace war peace cycle. Seeger
included it in 1960 on his The Rainbow Quest album (Hutchinson).
There have been several controversies alluding to plagiarism but by other artists and Seeger himself.
Attempts have been made to clear these up. Since Seeger spoke of one in the 2006 documentary about
the KT 50 Years Of Having Fun and a major information website published the other it has been
difficult for those seeking the truth behind them (Moran).
One of the many controversies surrounding the song is that Kingston Trio heard Peter, Paul and Mary
perform the song 1961 and,

Jeopardy Test
To find out whether a computer can not only hold vast amounts of data, but to be able to assess that
data quickly, Jeopardy is a logical way to test it. The reason Jeopardy makes sense as a test platform is
because the average contestant on Jeopardy has such a complex understanding of different subjects,
viewers have often compared them to computers. Eugene Finerman told the Wall Street Journal (1990)
that he had to scan over at least 200 issues of Time magazine to feel like he could answer a good
amount of questions. However, testing the computer on a quiz show means that the computer only had
to be as smart as the human players it was competing against. Testing multiple computers (with
different knowledge, software, or with some other difference) would be more adequate competitors.
The computer used in the test was set up specifically for the process of retrieving data. If that is all
you are wanting from a computer, then it is acceptable. I find a computer retrieving data, like Watson,
to be like the Criminal Minds character Dr. Spencer Reid. When Dr. Reid hears something that he

Mandala And Sunyata Are Codependent
The mandala and sunyata are codependent, as the mandala allows one to fully comprehend sunyata.
However, in order to understand sunyata, one must first acknowledge and comprehend the Theravada
Buddhist teachings. Teachings, such a dependent variation, the no self, and even impermanence, are
also intertwined with both each other, the sunyata, and the mandala. Therefore, while both sunyata and
the Theravada Buddhist teachings may be taught through the mandala, these teachings are crucial in
demonstrating the sunyata. The mandala provides a religious experience through visualization and are

Just like the seed, various different elements, past practices, and studies throughout years and years
were necessary for the creation of the seed. The creation of the seed and its journey into existence is
similar to that of the mandala. Both creations took significant effort, an excessive amount of time, and
the presence of the right elements to form the creation. Another Theravada Buddhist teaching used to
understand sunyata, is anaatman, or the no self. To begin, anaatman explains that one does not
recognize that everything is casually connected; rather, people cling to words such as I and self,
believing they have a fixed personality. This is not the case as we do not have a fixed independent self
rather, we exist in a constantly changing and advancing process. The mandala demonstrates anaatman
because of the fact that it a tool used to transform behavior through psychic realization. As stated
previously, the mandala is a design to connect the universe with human being s consciousness and
matter, representing a way to reach enlightenment. Because of this, the mandala should be viewed as a
tool that can communicate, and even deliver enlightenment. While viewing the mandala, it works to

Pathogenesis of Menstural Migraines Essay
A migraine is a common, chronic, and debilitating neurovascular disorder. It is characterized by
attacks of serve headache along with autonomic nervous system dysfunction and some patients an
aura neurological symptom (Goadsby, Lipton, Ferrari, 2002). Migraine attacks start at any age but
they peak in the early to mid adolescence age. Migraines rates were observed for a year and the results
showed the prevalence of migraines being 11% overall, 6% among men and 15 18% in
women(Stewart WF, Lipton RB, Celentano DD, Reed ML, 1992). Although prevalence of migraine is

The Rule of Law, enforced by the courts, is the ultimate controlling factor on which our constitution is

The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles of UK s unwritten or uncodified constitution .The
key idea of the rule of law is that the law should apply equally to all, rulers and ruled alike. This in the
words of the 19 century constitution expert, A.V.Diecy ensures a government of law and not a

The Law Is Always Applied
Disputes must be resolved by the application of the law rather than by other means. This means that
there must be a certainty of punishment for breaches of law law cannot apply in certain circumstances,
but not in others. By the same token, there should be punishment only for breaches of law people
should not be penalized except through the due process of law.
However, concerns have been expressed about the extent to which this principle applies in the UK; *
Not all crimes are reported and therefore legally addressed ( this applies, for instance, in the case of
most rapes) * As polices resources are limited many crimes are not detected ( for example , speeding
offences) * Trial by the media means that people may be punished without legal proceeding having
taken, or, perhaps, despite being acquitted.

If people s rights have been infringed (whether by other citizens, organizations or the state,) they
should be able to protect themselves through the law. For many legal experts and a growing body of
senior judges this implies that the law should defend fundamental human rights .This is the aspect of
the rule of law that safeguards the individuals from the state.
However, concerns have been expressed about the extent to which this principle applies in the UK: *

The Portrayal Of Women Of Contemporary Rap Videos
The aim of this study is examine the portrayal of women in contemporary rap videos, and to see if it
could be potentially harmful. Unfortunately within the music industry like many industries sex sells,
and the media has brought to light this fixation. Hip hop has persuaded a large portion of society that
this is how women should be treated, but new times call for new measures and it is time that people
realise this and give women the respect and dignity that many believe they surly deserve. In the rap
world, women are a status of success, and they are treated almost as trophies: a way for rappers to
show that they have made it to the top of their game. It is not that rappers feel that women are inferior,
but they feel treating women like a collector s item is how they should go about flaunting their new
found success. Rappers always try to have the best looking girls in their videos, which make other
people, predominantly young men, think how they are living the high life, being able to get the best
looking girls, girls they could only dream of getting. The intent of this façade is to simply make
money, but rappers do not realise how much of an impact their music is having on the younger
generations. When the younger generation watch television and see artists throw money in the air,
with expensive cars and women, that image is stored in their minds as the definition of success. They

They are used to pick up and manipulate any object at a distance. Wherein it is the biggest challenge
we will encounter in this study. Robotics only managed to carry through their precision by being large,
expensive, and most likely to consume or use lots of energy and are wasted. Nothing beats hydraulic

Something s Got Ta Give
Something s Gotta Give Research Essay Something s Gotta Give is an award winning movie written
by Nancy Meyers. This romantic drama is greatly known for its middle aged comedic relief because it
highlights the sexual encounters between an old bachelor and a cougar of a woman. The reviews
written by Roger Ebert, A.O. Scott and Christopher Orr are about the movie Something s Gotta Give
which will include an opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of how each review is written.
Roger Ebert s 2003 movie review of Something Gotta Give was more informational than it was a
review. Ebert used a tone in his writing that would lead readers to believe more details are needed
about the characters and set to understand and form an opinion. Ebert made sure readers were aware
of the award winning cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Amanda Pete and
Frances McDormand. Ebert observed while watching this film that he himself was moved by the
characters. Toward the end of his informational bit Ebert makes an observation that there is a sexual
mystery surrounding the situation between Erica played by Diane Keaton, Dr. Mercer played by
Keanu Reeves and the notorious Harry played by Jack Nicholson. With plenty of nudity to go around
Ebert suggests Nicholson might have contributed to the screenplay.

Mind and Body
Mind and Body The concept of mind and body interactions has been debated among many modern
philosophers. Some believe that our minds and bodies are different things, thus existing separately,
while others believe that they exist as a whole. In this paper, I will be introducing two rationalist
philosophical views regarding this topic, one which is by Rene Descartes and the other by Gottfried
Wilhelm Leibniz. Rationalists, in philosophical terms, are the ones who obtain their knowledge
through reasoning rather than the human senses. Descartes and Leibniz both have similar perspectives,
but Leibniz takes a slightly different approach to improve Descartes argument. This paper will first
show Descartes original argument, an example that proves the argument to be invalid, and then lastly,
a revised version of the argument with Leibniz s help. Rene Descartes is a modern French philosopher,
who is famous for his line, I think, therefore I am. The meaning of this quote is that he must exist
because he has the ability to think. In Descartes most famous work, The Meditations, he starts off by
doubting everything, which is known as the Method of Doubt. He believes that our senses are always
deceiving us in some way and so our senses are unreliable in proving anything. By this, he means that
when we use our senses, such as our vision, to look at something, the way that the object looks from
afar is different from the way it looks upfront, thus, deceiving us. However, Descartes

The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives
Healthy Marriage Initiative
To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education
services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and
sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage
Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the
Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have
been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper
will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage
Initiative.
A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of
Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided
assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white
women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of
color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to
become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under
this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families

[Note Fig. 7.1.] III. ECONOMIC RATIONALES FOR GOVERNMENTAL INTERVENTION
Government intervention in the trade process may be either economic or noneconomic in nature. [See
Table 7.1.] A. Unemployment Persistent unemployment pushes many groups to call for protectionism;
one of the most effective is organized labor. By limiting imports, local jobs are retained as firms and
consumers are forced to purchase domestically produced goods and services. However, unless the
protectionist country is relatively small, such measures usually do little to limit unemployment. On the
other hand, they may result in a decline in export related jobs because of (i) price increases for
components or (ii) lower incomes abroad. Further, such measures are likely to lead to retaliation
unless either the protectionist or the affected country is relatively small. Thus, governments must
carefully balance the costs of higher prices with the costs of unemployment and the displaced
production that would result from freer trade when enacting such measures. B. Infant Industry
Argument First presented by Alexander Hamilton in 1792, the infant industry argument holds that a
government should temporarily shield emerging industries in which the country may ultimately
possess a comparative advantage from international competition until

  • 3. The Lottery Symbolism Essay One of most interesting parts of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is simply trying to understand what the symbols in the story mean. These symbols included the lottery, the tools used in the lottery and even the people of the town. Within the first few lines of Shirley Jackson described a picture of a clear, sunny, fresh and warm summer day. She continues this sense of comfort by adding small children playing after being released from school for the summer, and the townspeople gathering calmly for the annual Lottery . Jackson leads us into believing that the story is going to be a happy cheery one just as the summer day that she initially described. Man, where we mislead! Through the use of symbolism, Shirley Jackson reveals to the us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows Mr. Summers lack of empathy for his fellow townspeople, even thou their fate rests in his hands. Another great name in this story belongs to Mr. Summer s assistants. His name is Mr. Graves, which does not become meaningful until the end of the story. Old Man Warner s character represents the stubborn, closed minded, old traditional way of thinking that supports this mindless type of rituals. His answer to the comment made that some places up north giving up the lottery was, Pack of crazy fools listening to the young folks, nothing s good enough for them. His reasoning was, There s always been a lottery . He had been involved in the lottery for 77 years, which has him believing that the town was still doing the correct thing, it is tradition after all. The method of execution at the end of the story is certainly not random. Stoning is one of the oldest and most common forms of execution, but it is also one of the most symbolic. It has strong connection to many people due to its use throughout The Bible. One reason, that stoning was used in the past as well as the reason that it is important in this story is that there is no single executioner. This means that there is not a single person that has passed judgment or has to carry the guilt for taking a life alone. This is important for the story of The Lottery because it helps to make clear who the enemy in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Health Care Trends and Perceptions Regarding the Insurance... Health Care Determine what correlations can be made regarding the increase in population and the public perception of the health insurance system. Be sure to present your thoughts in a credible manner that is non offensive yet factual. The population has been steadily increasing in the United States since its founding. For a long period the US led the industrialized world in its fertility rate however, though this rate has slowed in recent generations with Americans having few babies per household, immigration into the US has become one of the main drivers of the expanding population (Wang, 2013). Furthermore, the population is also steadily aging and therefore often requires more in terms of health care services. All of these factors contribute to a trend in which health care accessibility is becoming more and more limited in all types of coverage s. For example, those who have private health insurance may be faced with higher out of pocket costs and limited services to attempt to control costs while those without private insurance could be potentially excluded from service all together. One study found that in 2007 nearly two thirds of all bankruptcies were related to medical expenses; a trend that has been rapidly increasing since the turn of the century (McCarthy, 2009). It is reasonable to believe that such trends correlate to a negative perception of the health insurance system. Consider the health trends in the U.S. over the last two decades and make some ... • 5. The Dining Halls At Virginia State University Food plays an important role in our lives, especially in college. Food affects people financially, nutritionally, and educationally. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these dining halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the limited options we have. At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they spend $4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if they were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be receiving a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited choices at VSU; usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or Foster, you are forced to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become quite expensive for an unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students who do not have transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are located on the main campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have to walk across campus for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline to take the long walk for café food that isn t even satisfying. The United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His reason for writing the book was the hope that humans would read it and come to a realization that our world was headed toward a dictator like or tyrannical style of government. Some ignorant people living in first world countries might say that he was wrong, but those smart enough know just how right he was. These terrifying places are very much real in the world today. The people living in these cruel environments are often times isolated by their leaders and told they are living in the best country in the world, and that their reason of isolation is to keep the rest of the world out. Maybe it has to do with their early life, for example, Niyazov being orphaned starting from a very young age after the death of most of his mother and father ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Perhaps though, it has nothing to do with our upbringing, and maybe it only our internal hunger for power is to blame. Whichever way that created a person as monstrous as Niyazov, definitely created something huge. During Niyazov s rule he controlled everything he possibly could. Controlling the minds of his people was his specialty. Forcing them to have the will to change their beliefs, their routines, their individuality, was one of the reasons Niyazov succeeded in being one of the world s dictators ( Saparmurat Niyazov. ) Turkmenbashi put many laws in place of ridiculous nature, because he able to. He named some of the months and days of the weeks after his family. Only six years after he had become President, he ban smoking because after a major heart surgery he had quit. Other things like music, dance, and long hair on men were also halted, simply because he did not like them ( Obituary: Saparmurat Niyazov ). Niyazov also neglected his citizens. He starved worked his people to the bone. Today, Turkmenistan is lead by a man who works in a very similar way to that of Niyazov. His name is Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and he has transitioned the country to start favoring him over their old great leader and they have begun to be recreate the country for the new President. • 9. Critique Of Stephen Seamands Ministry Critique of Stephen Seamands Ministry in the Image of God Trinitarian Ministry Stephen Seamands proffers a Trinitarian description of Christian Ministry as the ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son, to the Father, through the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the church and the world. The author seems to presume that many in the Christian faith have not adequately observed or applied the doctrine of the Trinity significantly in the vocation of ministry. It is with this perception that he postulates a Trinitarian approach of ministry that emphasizes communion with God shaping our language about God to shape our heart so we might share in the life of God. In arriving at his conclusions, Seamands uses well grounded Scriptural foundations, along with a descriptive of the Icon of the Holy Trinity painted in 1425 by a Russian Monk, Andrei Rublev, including the historical significance that is traced back to the Enlightenment, and the findings of renowned theologians beginning with Karl Barth. The preponderance of evidence provided supports the author s contention that the grammar of the Christian faith and life is rooted in the doctrine of the Trinity having created the current Trinitarian renaissance. There are three foundational points in this theological approach that provide comprehension for that which seems beyond understanding God in one being; God in three persons. First, the main idea is centered on joining with Christ in the continuing ministry that substantiates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Artificial Intelligence In Nicholas Carr s Is Google... The Advancement of Intelligence With every passing year, it seems as though humans are becoming more attached to their electronic devices as technology advances at an astounding rate. As a result of this, many people believe that the trade off for having such advanced technology is a decrease in overall brain function, a point that is essentially what Nicholas Carr is arguing is true in his essay Is Google Making Us Stupid?. However, a majority of Carr s argument lies in the fact that people do not read as much because of the Internet, only want information directly given to them instead of having to read through pages of words, and are becoming dangerously reliant on artificial intelligence. However, based on the recent surge of technological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, he bluntly says throughout his article that the Internet and search engines such as Google are making us stupid . He goes on to explain how the rise of the internet is adverse to the intellectual mind because it is starting to replace physical reading, and reading allows for intellectual vibrations to be set off within the minds of the people (Carr 28). However, it clear to see that as technology evolves, so does the world and its views on what is considered to be intellectual. While people may not be reading as many physical books anymore, they do tend to educate themselves on the world around them in other ways. Even on seemingly casual social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram, people speak out about what they understand and feel about the world around them, showing how intellectual vibrations are now set off differently than in years past. A technology press conference, a controversial social media post, or a compelling article from an online news source could get a person to deeply think about something just any form of physical print would be able to; this is made evident by how the younger generations are currently using the Internet and its sites. In fact, Carr even quotes an Italian humanist by the name of Hieronimo Squarciafico who stated that the introduction of the Gutenberg printing press and readily available publications would make men less studious (28). However, the introduction of readily available literature has proven to have had the opposite effect, with the most studious of people accepting books and other printed publications as some of their most treasured intellectual resources. In the same way, a parallel can be drawn to the Internet, which will likely turn out to be a blessing for intellectuals around the world just as the printing press was all those years ago. He doesn t even smile...Do his chores. He pays no attention...Say I m sorry but he won t listen (145), this quote shows he is very sorry that he hurt his brother and made him go to the hospital. In the book it also says, Well, I will talk to her about this job thing, since it means so much to you. Cain delves further in exploring the extroverts and the ones who disguise themselves as extroverts, hiding their true introvert selves. Her initiative is to take a look at how the Western culture and life has designed everything around extroverts, ignoring and dismissing some of the introverts to psychological discomfort and some to pretending to be extroverts. Comparing Macbeth And Goold s Play Macbeth, a play written by Shakespeare in 1606 is a tragedy surrounding a man Macbeth as he unknowingly seals his own fate due to his own excessive ambition and greed. This tragedy has since been taken to the big screen by many, one of which is director Rupert Goold. In 2010 Goold released a television film version of play on the BBC. Despite the differences between the two, the movie does effectively convey the overall message of the original story. In Goold s version, we see pivotal moments such as the breaking of Macbeth and Lady Macbeths bond. This moment is stressed just as much in the film as it is in the play because not only does it show the breaking of such a strong bond, but it also leads into another important moment in which Lady Macbeth is starting to get sort of delirious. The film also keeps up with the play and how it makes sure to highlight certain symbols and motifs such as blood and darkness through setting and lighting choice, special effects, staying true to the lines, etc. the director even goes as far as to reinforce death through a different motif (dead children). This is found most clearly in the men of the loftiest genius and greatest souls. They wonder why they should toil and strain in life when it is much easier to do the basic necessities. However, many people of the past and present have sacrificed their lives for something that they believe in and value. This can be many different ideas and institutions of life. Many that sacrifice do this because of the thought that their names and deeds would continue after them. They believed in the idea of immortality, not of the body, but rather of the soul and that it will continue long after them. This is supported by the voice of nature and the general opinion of people. Those in great power believe in this idea and this motivates their actions. This idea even carries over to even poets and philosophers with their desire for fame even after their death. Their view towards death is important in how they live their lives. A forward thinking mindset is useful for life and how they prepare for death. This adds to the value of their lives and the work they perform. I agree that we are aware of the future and act accordingly with the pursuit of higher things in life. Immorality is an important motivator of how we act. The IASB and the FASB have both established frameworks for the reporting of financial information, however, despite their apparent similarities several key differences exist between their structures. For example, U.S. GAAP has been traditionally defined as being a more rules based standard, which has established strict guidelines and contingencies for reporting financial information. Given its history and the recent tumultuous financial environment, particularly the 2008 financial crisis, U.S. GAAP has become a very robust and strictly enforced set of standards. This has given rise to concerns that some preparers of financial statements may commit accounting fraud by circumventing or manipulating the rules of U.S. GAAP. Supporters of IFRS argue that the more detailed the guidance, the greater the opportunity to find the loopholes in the guidance (Hillman, Heaston, and Dodd 5). Despite these concerns, however, U.S. GAAP continues to be the preferred standard of most accounting professionals. Conversely, IFRS is a principles based standard. The principles based approach of IFRS grants management the discretion to use different accounting methods when preparing financial data. Each time I entered a school, I generally knew what age student I would be teaching, the progression of skill I planned to teach them, and how much time I had to complete my lesson plan. What I did not know was how many students I would be managing, if my students could speak English, what level of physical competency my students had mastered, or if I would be dealing with any physical or mental impairments. I learned to think quickly on my feet and to adapt to the class size; for instance, on my last day of teaching, I had prepared a lesson around using scoops, because I thought my students already knew how to use them. When I found out they did not know how to use them, I adapted, by changing from the games I had planned on teaching, to teaching the basics of handling the scoops and practicing over hand and under hand throws and catching with the scoops. The new skills were easy for some, yet hard for others; therefore, I adapted exercises to meet the needs of diverse students. For some, I simplified, and, for others, I made the tasks more difficult. Annie Get Your Gun By Ethel Merman And Ray Middleton Anything you do, I can do better; I can do anything, better than you , in Annie Get Your Gun performed by Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton, is one of many examples that are still battled today on the topic of gender roles playing essentially to modern society. Historically, the relationship between female and male has almost always been unequal and oppressive; but, a feminist critic would aim to critique the nature of gender roles. In a feminist theory, it mainly focuses women s role as well as their social standing in a society. In today s society, women empower society to promote matriarchy whereas a female becomes the head of the family. Since the nineteenth century up until today in the twenty first century, society has made assumptions about female based on their gender. For instance, people often assume that men are strong and women are weak and that women cannot control their emotions, and that men are better at hunting, and that women belong in the kitchen. Oftentimes, books and movies can confirm such stereotypes of males as action heroes and women as housewives; however, through the characters of Katniss and Peeta in The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins tries to show her readers that these assumptions are false. Moreover, Katniss is an individual who breaks away from the typical gender stereotypes that one would assume while reading. In fact, showing her feminine side to readers, Katniss is simply a nurturer because of how she takes care of others like Rue and Peeta ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Analysis Of Where Have All The Flowers Gone Where Have All the Flowers Gone Where did Seeger s song come from? Are the words even his or did he read them in a book a long time ago? Did he steal the melody? It might be from a railroad song. Many questions surround this song as the research will show. Where Have All the Flowers Gone was originally written by Pete Seeger. He took words from the book And Quiet Flows the Don by Mikhail Sholokhovl, in which Czarist Russia soldiers sang while riding to join the army. He added a few lines changing the mood from semi mocking to melancholy. He gave it a melody. His version originally only had the first three verses. Joe Hickerson, a camp counselor, heard Seeger perform in 1955 and later added two more verses and a rhythm to the song. Seeger gave him a percentage of the royalties for his contributions and writing credit. The resulting song is a haunting narrative of the futility and endlessness of the peace war peace cycle. Seeger included it in 1960 on his The Rainbow Quest album (Hutchinson). There have been several controversies alluding to plagiarism but by other artists and Seeger himself. Attempts have been made to clear these up. Since Seeger spoke of one in the 2006 documentary about the KT 50 Years Of Having Fun and a major information website published the other it has been difficult for those seeking the truth behind them (Moran). One of the many controversies surrounding the song is that Kingston Trio heard Peter, Paul and Mary perform the song 1961 and, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason Jeopardy makes sense as a test platform is because the average contestant on Jeopardy has such a complex understanding of different subjects, viewers have often compared them to computers. Eugene Finerman told the Wall Street Journal (1990) that he had to scan over at least 200 issues of Time magazine to feel like he could answer a good amount of questions. However, testing the computer on a quiz show means that the computer only had to be as smart as the human players it was competing against. Testing multiple computers (with different knowledge, software, or with some other difference) would be more adequate competitors. The computer used in the test was set up specifically for the process of retrieving data. If that is all you are wanting from a computer, then it is acceptable. However, in order to understand sunyata, one must first acknowledge and comprehend the Theravada Buddhist teachings. Teachings, such a dependent variation, the no self, and even impermanence, are also intertwined with both each other, the sunyata, and the mandala. Therefore, while both sunyata and the Theravada Buddhist teachings may be taught through the mandala, these teachings are crucial in demonstrating the sunyata. The mandala provides a religious experience through visualization and are often employed to dissociate a human from their ego and the egotistic perceptions humans tend to cling to. Just like the seed, various different elements, past practices, and studies throughout years and years were necessary for the creation of the seed. The creation of the seed and its journey into existence is similar to that of the mandala. Both creations took significant effort, an excessive amount of time, and the presence of the right elements to form the creation. Another Theravada Buddhist teaching used to understand sunyata, is anaatman, or the no self. To begin, anaatman explains that one does not recognize that everything is casually connected; rather, people cling to words such as I and self, believing they have a fixed personality. This is not the case as we do not have a fixed independent self rather, we exist in a constantly changing and advancing process. The mandala demonstrates anaatman because of the fact that it a tool used to transform behavior through psychic realization. As stated previously, the mandala is a design to connect the universe with human being s consciousness and matter, representing a way to reach enlightenment. Because of this, the mandala should be viewed as a tool that can communicate, and even deliver enlightenment. While viewing the mandala, it works to bring you to experience a sacred world by striving to bring the human to the manda or its center or essence and works as a la ... It is characterized by attacks of serve headache along with autonomic nervous system dysfunction and some patients an aura neurological symptom (Goadsby, Lipton, Ferrari, 2002). Migraine attacks start at any age but they peak in the early to mid adolescence age. Migraines rates were observed for a year and the results showed the prevalence of migraines being 11% overall, 6% among men and 15 18% in women(Stewart WF, Lipton RB, Celentano DD, Reed ML, 1992). The Rule of Law, enforced by the courts, is the ultimate controlling factor on which our constitution is based. Discuss. The rule of law is one of the fundamental principles of UK s unwritten or uncodified constitution .The key idea of the rule of law is that the law should apply equally to all, rulers and ruled alike. This in the words of the 19 century constitution expert, A.V.Diecy ensures a government of law and not a government of men . The alternative to the rule of law is there for arbitrary government. In this way, the rule of law establishes the relationship between government and the people. AS John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that there must be a certainty of punishment for breaches of law law cannot apply in certain circumstances, but not in others. By the same token, there should be punishment only for breaches of law people should not be penalized except through the due process of law. However, concerns have been expressed about the extent to which this principle applies in the UK; * Not all crimes are reported and therefore legally addressed ( this applies, for instance, in the case of most rapes) * As polices resources are limited many crimes are not detected ( for example , speeding offences) * Trial by the media means that people may be punished without legal proceeding having taken, or, perhaps, despite being acquitted. 4. Legal Redress Is Available Through The Courts If people s rights have been infringed (whether by other citizens, organizations or the state,) they should be able to protect themselves through the law. For many legal experts and a growing body of senior judges this implies that the law should defend fundamental human rights .This is the aspect of the rule of law that safeguards the individuals from the state. • 37. The Portrayal Of Women Of Contemporary Rap Videos The aim of this study is examine the portrayal of women in contemporary rap videos, and to see if it could be potentially harmful. Unfortunately within the music industry like many industries sex sells, and the media has brought to light this fixation. Hip hop has persuaded a large portion of society that this is how women should be treated, but new times call for new measures and it is time that people realise this and give women the respect and dignity that many believe they surly deserve. In the rap world, women are a status of success, and they are treated almost as trophies: a way for rappers to show that they have made it to the top of their game. It is not that rappers feel that women are inferior, but they feel treating women like a collector s item is how they should go about flaunting their new found success. Rappers always try to have the best looking girls in their videos, which make other people, predominantly young men, think how they are living the high life, being able to get the best looking girls, girls they could only dream of getting. The intent of this façade is to simply make money, but rappers do not realise how much of an impact their music is having on the younger generations. Robotic arms are used in industrial robotics nowadays. They are used to pick up and manipulate any object at a distance. Wherein it is the biggest challenge we will encounter in this study. Robotics only managed to carry through their precision by being large, expensive, and most likely to consume or use lots of energy and are wasted. Nothing beats hydraulic propulsion. This romantic drama is greatly known for its middle aged comedic relief because it highlights the sexual encounters between an old bachelor and a cougar of a woman. The reviews written by Roger Ebert, A.O. Scott and Christopher Orr are about the movie Something s Gotta Give which will include an opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of how each review is written. Roger Ebert s 2003 movie review of Something Gotta Give was more informational than it was a review. Ebert used a tone in his writing that would lead readers to believe more details are needed about the characters and set to understand and form an opinion. Ebert made sure readers were aware of the award winning cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Amanda Pete and Frances McDormand. Ebert observed while watching this film that he himself was moved by the characters. Toward the end of his informational bit Ebert makes an observation that there is a sexual mystery surrounding the situation between Erica played by Diane Keaton, Dr. Mercer played by Keanu Reeves and the notorious Harry played by Jack Nicholson. With plenty of nudity to go around Ebert suggests Nicholson might have contributed to the screenplay. A review written for the New York Times by A.O. • 41. Mind and Body Mind and Body The concept of mind and body interactions has been debated among many modern philosophers. Some believe that our minds and bodies are different things, thus existing separately, while others believe that they exist as a whole. In this paper, I will be introducing two rationalist philosophical views regarding this topic, one which is by Rene Descartes and the other by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Rationalists, in philosophical terms, are the ones who obtain their knowledge through reasoning rather than the human senses. Descartes and Leibniz both have similar perspectives, but Leibniz takes a slightly different approach to improve Descartes argument. This paper will first show Descartes original argument, an example that proves the argument to be invalid, and then lastly, a revised version of the argument with Leibniz s help. Rene Descartes is a modern French philosopher, who is famous for his line, I think, therefore I am. The meaning of this quote is that he must exist because he has the ability to think. In Descartes most famous work, The Meditations, he starts off by doubting everything, which is known as the Method of Doubt. He believes that our senses are always deceiving us in some way and so our senses are unreliable in proving anything. By this, he means that when we use our senses, such as our vision, to look at something, the way that the object looks from afar is different from the way it looks upfront, thus, deceiving us. The Mission Statement Of The Healthy Marriage Initiatives Healthy Marriage Initiative To help couples, who have chosen marriage for themselves, gain greater access to marriage education services, on a voluntary basis, where they can acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to form and sustain a healthy marriage ( Healthy Marriage Initiative , 2012). This is the Healthy Marriage Initiatives Mission statement. As part of Welfare reform, President George W. Bush implemented the Healthy Marriage Initiative. It was enacted to address the growing issues low income families have been facing for decades, including social problems that affect both children and the parent. This paper will address the background, implementation, oversight, cost, and outcomes of the Healthy Marriage Initiative. A little background, from 1935 to 1996 a federal assistance program managed by The Department of Health and Human Services, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children(AFDC) provided assistance to the children of low income families. Initially, the program was restricted to white women, but after some adjustment, the government graciously (insert sarcasm) permitted people of color to claim the benefit. As time went on, officials (and citizens) felt it was encouraging women to become single mothers and avoid joining the workforce. These concerns led to the development of The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996(PRWORA), Under this act, AFDC was replaced by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families ... ECONOMIC RATIONALES FOR GOVERNMENTAL INTERVENTION Government intervention in the trade process may be either economic or noneconomic in nature. [See Table 7.1.] A. Unemployment Persistent unemployment pushes many groups to call for protectionism; one of the most effective is organized labor. By limiting imports, local jobs are retained as firms and consumers are forced to purchase domestically produced goods and services. However, unless the protectionist country is relatively small, such measures usually do little to limit unemployment. On the other hand, they may result in a decline in export related jobs because of (i) price increases for components or (ii) lower incomes abroad. Further, such measures are likely to lead to retaliation unless either the protectionist or the affected country is relatively small. Thus, governments must carefully balance the costs of higher prices with the costs of unemployment and the displaced production that would result from freer trade when enacting such measures. B. Infant Industry Argument First presented by Alexander Hamilton in 1792, the infant industry argument holds that a government should temporarily shield emerging industries in which the country may ultimately possess a comparative advantage from international competition until ...
