Intervention Programs ( Anjour )
Intervention Programs (Anjour)
Early alert intervention programs can be beneficial to colleges to assist them with identifying students
who are at risk of not being academically successful (Tampke, 2012 2013; Bryan Simmons, 2009).
Equally important, students entering college for the first time encounter significant changes from
those encountered in high school as the academic demands are usually more rigorous. In addition,
some freshman students struggle with academic success, which impacts persistence; therefore, early
intervention programs should be considered. According to Vanthournout, Coertjens, Donche, and Van
Petegem (2012), student academic persistence is an expected outcome of early intervention programs.
Learning Methods Course. Tuckman and Kennedy (2011) compared a group of 702 freshman college
students at a large mid western university: half of the students took a learning methods course, and
half of the students did not take the course. The purpose of the course was to assist students with
increasing accountability, self esteem, learning modality, readiness skills, and managing their personal
responsibilities. Data from the study concluded that students who completed the methods course had a
higher rate of persistence towards academic achievement, and graduated at a higher rate than the
students who did not take the course. Moreover, the occurrence of graduating was 50% greater for
those students who were experiencing academic difficulty. For this

Cultural Identity Vs American Culture
What is a person s cultural identity based off of? According to Google, Cultural identity is often
defined as the identity of a group, culture or an individual, influenced by one s belonging to a group or
culture. So what is my cultural identity? I believe no one person has one singular cultural identity. I
can identify myself as a daughter, a sister, a Swede, an American, a water polo player, a swimmer, a
Mormon, a high school student, or even a world traveler. In this paper the one I will identify as an
American. As a world traveler there are many cultures I have seen very different from the American
culture. Things that make other cultures different from the way Americans do things are based off of
their customs, their routines, and their traditions. For example, in Greece it is customary for the
unfamous and poor to pay for the rich and famous s weddings and funerals. That is different from the
American culture because here in America it customary that families and sometimes even friends plan
and pay for their own family member s wedding or funeral. Another example of a difference between
American culture and other cultures is the way we celebrate holidays. For example, my European
family celebrates their countries independence day with solemn parades and reserved attitudes, while
as Americans we celebrate our independence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m not saying that every single American is like that, there are many Americans that are up for
anything and are willing to try something new, but for most for Americans new things are stressful and
too foreign. Most Americans like familiar and consistent, not new and unknown. It s no one s fault
necessarily, it s just the way they were raised. As Americans we learn at an early age that we are
citizens of the greatest and most free country. Why would we want to live anywhere

Carol Stack’s Call to Home Essay
Progress and individualism are very much celebrated in American culture. Many people migrate to
urban cities in the search of economic prosperity and to achieve the elusive American Dream. City life
can often come as a shock to individuals not accustomed to a fast paced lifestyle; conversely it can
change a person. Such change can transform a person to lose the values and beliefs they were raised
with which consequently attribute to losing the bonds that they once held with their families. This is
not the case with the families portrayed in Carol Stack s ethnography Call to Home. The book depicts
Southern African American families living in rural, North and South Carolina s towns which migrate
to northern urban cities for economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in the north, individual s sustained close bonds with their families and home. The adults often
flocked home during summer vacations or whenever possible. Moreover the children were key players
in maintaining close relations between the families in the North and South. Children were often sent to
the South for summer vacations, semesters during the school year and some for most of their
childhood when their parents moved away. It was not that parents did not want to take them but it was
that they wanted the grandparents to raise their children as to instill and not lose sight of family values
(Stack, 1996). Although most children were left for grandparents to rear, the children and the young
adults were also caring for the elderly by helping them cope with ailments due to old age. In turn the
adults in the north were helping their communities back home by sending their hard earned money.
Family values and traditions are very important in maintaining social bonds in African American
families. In addition, it is clear that African American families are matrifocal and matriarchal.
Matrifocality is present in Burdy s Bend Miss Pearl is a great example (Stack, 1996), in the film The
Language You Cry In, and as discussed in Dr. Stevenson s in class lecture (J. Stevenson, personal
communication, November 18, 2013). The community members in Burdy s Bend, all knew they could
count on Miss Pearl whenever they needed help. As noted

A Study on Conservative Resurgence
Conservative Resurgence (Order #A2065848) For many years the Republican party and its
conservative base was the central point of blame for the economic woes that had occurred in America
during the Great Depression. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his liberal Democratic party were
portrayed as the saviors of the United States economy and the only intellectual and political tradition
that remained for America. However, the social excesses, political instability and economic turmoil
that the liberals of the late 1960 s and early 1970 s created, led to a resurgence in conservative
thinking. Americans began to reject the complete dependence on the government, and the inefficiency
and corruption associated with it, in favor of a more independent and politically conservative way of
thinking. As a result, 1980 saw the election of Ronald Reagan, a hard core conservative Republican as
President of the United States. Reagan s victory over then President Jimmy Carter signaled a distinct
resurgence in conservative values and political activity. In the 1950 s, Lionel Trilling, famous literary
critic and writer, stated that in the United States at this time liberalism is not only the dominant but
even the sole intellectual tradition. (McPherson, 2008, p.30) This belief was maintained throughout
the 1960 s and 1970 s within the American intellectual and political community. In addition, the
conservative opposition to the civil rights movement, although for constitutional reasons, had

Understanding The Physical And Mental Language
This observation report shows the study of the reaction of people interacting with each other,
understanding the physical and mental language that each individual possesses. The observation was
conducted at the Fort Campbell, Kentucky Commissary, using Sociology to point out the positive and
negative norms. Identify every aspect of the norm that associates within each person finding the
reaction which many either do or do not expect. Chambliss stated that, norms are accepted social
behaviors and beliefs, or the common rules of a culture that governs the behavior of people belonging
to that culture (2015). Norms that are utilized daily are; mores and laws norm are used in daily life
within today s population including myself. Mores norm in simple terms is explained by, creating a

Dbq Italian Cantata
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: CANTATA In the Seventeenth century a new style of composition
had its origin in Rome, Italy. This style is known as the cantata da camera or secular cantata. The
study of the cantata shows that there were some problems which remained and could not be solved
due to the huge numbers of compositions during the baroque era. Vocal chamber music performed in
private for the wealthy at their houses, became the most common or popular social entertainment way
of the moment. The performing group for this entertainment was cooperated by one, two or three
voices accompanied by the basso continuo (which was rarely a pair of solo strings). Something that

the raise in the importance of the gospel settings, psalm settings and works based on chorales was
given because of the textual division into verses such an important fact that supported the mixture of
musical styles that was to become a hallmark of the cantata. Poetic texts became more frequent, and
particularly important were those works which combined arias and Biblical texts to become the
concerto aria cantata, which normally began and ended with a setting of a Biblical text, between

Essay about Theme of Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown Theme The themes in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown are
not as obvious as might be expected. This essay intends to present an interpretation of the tale along
the lines of theme. In reading Hawthorne s tales, Herman Melville in Hawthorne and His Mosses (in
Literary World, August 17, 24, 1850) makes discoveries relevant to the themes: Where Hawthorne is
known, he seems to be deemed a pleasant writer, with a pleasant style, a sequestered, harmless man,
from whom any deep and weighty thing would hardly be anticipated: a man who means no meanings.
But there is no man, in whom humor and love, like mountain peaks, soar to such a rapt height, as to

Enroute along the path with the sinister fellow traveler, Goodman repeatedly recalls his feelings for
his wife: Well, then, to end the matter at once, said Goodman Brown, considerably nettled, there is my
wife, Faith. It would break her dear little heart; and I d rather break my own! Friend, said he,
stubbornly, my mind is made up. Not another step will I budge on this errand. What if a wretched old
woman do choose to go to the devil, when I thought she was going to Heaven! Is that any reason why
I should quit my dear Faith, and go after her? Faith! shouted Goodman Brown, in a voice of agony and
desperation; and the echoes of the forest mocked him, crying Faith! Faith! as if bewildered wretches
were seeking her, all through the wilderness. And when Goodman thinks that he has lost his Faith to
the devil, he despairs: My Faith is gone! cried he, after one stupefied moment. There is no good on
earth; and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given. And maddened with despair,
so that he laughed loud and long, did Goodman Brown grasp his staff and set forth again, at such a
rate, that he seemed to fly along the forest path, rather than to walk or run. At the very climax of the
tale the protagonist does not think about himself, even though he feels that his wife has gone to the
devil; rather Goodman persists in trying

An Objective For The Week 5 Reflection Paper
An objective for the week 5 reflection paper includes highlighting and summarizing some of the most
distinctive core competencies that were galvanized as the result of exposure to course materials. The
topics discussed over the previous 4 weeks have helped to identify and distinguish between various
key leadership elements which stand to benefit tremendously from developing a conscious awareness
pertaining to the concepts themselves. Throughout life, individuals must overcome a seemingly
infinite array of obstacles and challenges, for some, succumbing to failures were never an option.
While taking everything into consideration, many realizations began to occur, the following paper
reveals the importance for having leadership and conflict resolution strategies in place and available at
a moment s notice. Personal and professional environments are always subject to change, one day a
person might be washing dishes for a restaurant and instantaneously becomes wealthy and decides to
purchase the restaurant. Examples like these are all too common, also reflective of challenges and
obstacles currently faced with on a daily basis. Last year, a professional job title comprised of an
ownership role for a car dealership, last week entailed a reserve insurance agent for Farmers Insurance
Group, and as of Friday, the money was paid to the current agency owner whereby a deal transpired to
purchase the entire agency lock, stock, and barrel. The agency acquisition date is set

Real Life Couple s Trouble in The Stockton Civic Theatre’s...
The Stockton Civic Theatre s production of Avenue Q last Thursday night depicts an accurate
portrayal of life after graduating from college. The protagonist is a fresh out of college puppet named
Princeton who is trying to seek a job and housing in the outer borough of New York City. After finding
a cheap and unoccupied room in an apartment located on Avenue Q, Princeton befriends his neighbors
who are made up of both people and puppets. Princeton meets and falls in love with an elementary
teacher, Kate Monster. Together they face the same real life problems couples deal with in present
times. Throughout the whole performance, Princeton is constantly troubled about finding his purpose
in life. Princeton, who is played by Jacob Bronson has the ability to connect with the audience despite
being visible holding the puppet on stage. Bronson is not only a good actor, but also excels in his
singing. He has a very loud and distinctive voice which is proven in the beginning of the play, What
Do You Do with a B.A. in English? Kate Monster, who is played by Randi Linee also has the ability to
connect with the audience even though she is clearly visible holding the puppet. She gives Kate a very
vibrant and expressive character and uses hand movements to help show Kate s emotions. Kate s hand
gestures are not a big distraction unlike the other actors holding puppets. Linee s representation of the
emotion of being distraught over love is very realistic and makes the audience

Analysis Of A Christmas Story By Truman Capote
In the short story A Christmas Story by Truman Capote, the theme of friendship and its importance to
enjoy a valuable life is key to the development of the story. In this tale, a young boy named Buddy
lives with both his family, and his best friend. This best friend happens to be one of his distant sixty
year old woman cousins. These relatives they live with treat both Buddy and his friend as if they are
inferior, but though [the rest of the family has] power over [them] and frequently [makes them] cry,
[they] are not, on the whole, too much aware of them. [They] are each other s best friend (Capote).

difficult to buy anything in their situation. Instead of buying new materialistic things that they can t

I never doubted that equal rights was the right direction. Most reforms, most problems are

more equality. From movements like Gay Rights and #blacklivesmatter down to equal rights for
people in the workforce America is truly pushing for the rights to encompass all. On specific

In recent polls conducted by TV stations here in Houston it was shown that supporters of the
ordinance [have] a slight lead, but each poll indicated that about one fifth of likely voters were
undecided (Lozano). Sally Field, an Oscar winning actress, supports H.E.R.O on the bases that this is
very personal to her because her mother and grandmother were both born here in Houston, and she s
the mother of a gay son (Karedes). Although many are for the act, on the other side of the ballpark
opponents contend the ordinance would infringe on their religious beliefs against homosexuality
(Lozano). Taking the view points on H.E.R.O from two gay friends shows both viewpoints on the
ordinance. One, Sydney, stated that they were okay with the act and that [the] country was founded on
equality (Hinojosa). The other, Amanda, is fearful that there is a potential that their friends might get
hurt if people misuse the equality of the bathrooms (Hinojosa) and is focused more on just one aspect
of the ordinance. Regardless of both viewpoints on H.E.R.O the effects of the act will only come to

Porter Robinson And Madeon Concert Report
On November 16th, I attended a Porter Robinson and Madeon concert at Echostage in Washington
D.C. Porter Robinson and Madeon are both electro house, dubstep, synthpop, and EDM (Electronic
Dance Music) music DJ s, who have decided to collaborate and tour together. Doors opened for the
concert at 9 PM, with DJ s Robotaki (Ro bo ta key) and Danger opening for them. Robotaki focused
more on house music, while Danger was more heavy drum and bass electronic music. Although, the
opening DJ s varied in their style of music, they helped to set the mood and prepare the crowd for the
main event.

A common theme throughout the show was the use of the Wall of Sound, where many different
instruments and beats were being played simultaneously. This made the entire room fill with sound,
making it almost impossible to distinguish between the multiple layers of beats hitting you. Although,
this may have been true for much of the concert, the DJ s also incorporated the concepts of
minimalism into their work, by using very few instruments: drums, piano, a synthesizer, and
turntables. The tempo of the songs varied greatly throughout their performance, with some songs
being slowed down to incorporate new, unique sounds, and others being sped up to introduce the next
track. The canons of the songs vary greatly, with some sets of songs sounding very similar to each
other, then it will become quiet, and then the canon will change again as the concert progresses into its
next stages. Repetition also plays a major role in Porter Robinson and Madeon s music, creating a
steady beat that s easy to move to, with the rest of the song never deviating greatly from the original
beat. A great example of this is Porter Robinsons song, Divinity, where the initial beat sets the theme
for the rest of the song. In every song the musical elements build upon each other. For example, in
their song, Shelter, it starts with a beat and an electronic voice speaking. As the song progresses these
elements still exist, but other beats and sounds are

SWOT Analysis Of Persistent Poverty In South Carolina
Poverty in South Carolina is an issue for all citizens. The issue is particularly acute if you are a citizen
living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support those areas
stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent poverty
corridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others along Interstate 95. Allendale
County stands out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address multigenerational
poverty. This paper deals with Allendale County poverty beginning by offering insight into poverty
issues within South Carolina, followed by a SWOT analysis, a finagling offering a few possible
solutions.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty
threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 1960s to
benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for
inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually.
Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient
resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount
is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income, as defined by the federal rules, can
include cash and cash like welfare

The Drought In California s Water System

miners mining for gold, the rivers became polluted and freshwater became limited. After the

made a plan to built a dam in Hetch Hetchy. Many people argue as to whether to build the dam and in
the end the dam was built and that has shape California s water system hugely. The use of water in
California now has not been in the best interest of the state because The amount of water use for
agriculture is disportional, laws are making us use more water than needed and the Indians and

Indians for example are being poorer. In 1853 E.A. Stevenson states, The Indians in this portions of
the State are wretchedly poor, having no horses, cattle or other property. They formerly survived on
game, fish, acorns, etc. but it is now impossible for them to make a living by hunting or fishing (Doc
2). This is due to miners turning the stream to mines to look for gold and they can do that because of
the law of prior appropriations And after being use up, the stream become muddy causing fish to seek
for new houses which will also be destroyed due to more miners using the streams carelessly. This
causes Indians, animals and habitats to die. It is stated by Jerry Stanley in 1997, The gold rush meant
death by starvation for thousands of Native Californians, and death from disease for thousands more
(Doc 7). This shows the consequence made by the miners. They use the water for their gold, polluting
the rivers with mercury and to the Indians that drink the water they are die and if they don t they will
sooner ar later die of dehydrations. It also stated by Jerry Stanley that due the tree being cut downs,
animals left which were a food source for Indians. The Indians are not the only one who were being
harm. The environment is being harm. They cut down tree which are habitats for animals and the
animals have to leave home and find a new one buts people will continue cutting trees and polluting
water, and taking their home away again and the animals will sooner or later die out This create a

Compare And Contrast Alternative Family And Nuclear Family
The nuclear family vs. alternative family structure
Initially a picture of a nuclear family would best describe a so called family but today alternative
family structure is increasing because of the changing nature of families. This is due to things such as
technology, changing structure of families e.g. women entering workplace and divorce rate that cause
s initial structure to be broken down as people live as they please. In this essay nuclear family
structure verses the alternative family structure will be discussed through sociological imagination. A
family is a group of people that are interlinked through blood, the law (marriage), co residence or

difference in these structures, from financial security to emotional security, makes it flexible for
people to move about because of the decrease in dependence on men from women. This had been said,
does not make the people incapable of raising of children, but highlights their level of independency.
They are also able to provide a safe and nutritious life for their children as in nuclear families.

How Did Religion Affect European Society
The birth of modern science created conflict between religion and science in European societies. With
the conflicts, the people had started to question the church. These conflicted changes between religion
and science, had positively impacted the common people and had greatly damaged the stability of the
church itself. The idea that everything was to be perfect affected the communities of the people. The
ideas that the church had displayed in decades past, rejected any further discoveries or advancements
that they didn t see fit.
The geocentric model created by Ptolemy, and the heliocentric model created by Copernicus, had
greatly differed in which force of being (the sun or the earth,) was the center of the universe. Ptolemy

Aristotle was a Greek astronomer who theorized that the moon and the stars were made of pure and
perfect substance, and that they were perfect spheres. Galileo had differed in his discovery of the
moon and the stars, they were in fact, not perfect. According to the artist of the cartoon, Galileo had
discovered that the moon was rough and had craters. The Catholic church had not liked his discovery,
compared to Aristotle s claim, because he proved that not everything was not ideal to their opinions or
beliefs. The Catholic church perhaps believed in Aristotle s discovery more so, because it showed that
everything was in unison with each other. Galileo and Copernicus were one in the same, as their
opinions and theories went against the Catholic church s knowledge of the world and everything
around it. Once again, science was rejected over religion. (document three.)

A Good Man Is Hard To Find By Flannery OConnor
Religion can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the believer. In fact, people have
different ideas and believe of grace and redemption. Many writers and artists exert their religious
values and beliefs in their work. A Good Man is Hard to Find is a short story written by Flannery O
Connor in 1953. Her ideas and beliefs of grace and violence are reflected throughout the whole story.
The theme of violent versus grace is represented by the character of grandmother s family, the Misfit,
and the grandmother. Flannery O Connor represents the theme of grace versus violence through the
grandmother s family. In the conversation between Bailey and grandmother, she states that [she]
wouldn t take [her] children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it. [She] couldn t
answer to [her] conscience if [she] did (O Connor 6). Bailey and the children ignore her comments
and he continues reading. The newspaper foreshadows the arrival of the Misfit and presents the
family, especially the grandmother, as a self centered character. The family is unlikely to be the
recipient of grace by their arrogant, selfish, and uncaring characteristics. During the accident on the
trip, June Star states that nobody s killed with disappointment (O Connor 19). Her action reveals how
unserious she is about the accident and death. Consequently, she acts thoughtlessly in front of Bobby
Lee, calling him pig . The family is inconsiderate of the prospect of violence and death and

Analysis Of The South By Carson Mccullers
The South has a history of deep rooted traditions, some more sinister than others. The deteriorating
antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters
and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally
connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature
understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category
perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their
inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence.
McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that
felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through
her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels
is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always
be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned
by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to
become part of something greater than themselves. People want to believe that human life has more
purpose than first meets the eye, but with no evidence to prove there is a

Effects Of The Conquest Of Mexico
The Conquest of Mexico And Epidemics
The Aztec and Central American (Mesoamerican) indigenous civilizations were onlookers to one of
the worst demographic catastrophes in history seeing citizen deficits of almost ninety percent, down to
one million residents almost one century after conquest (Marr and Kiracoffe 2000). These
demographic disasters were in the form of disease outbreaks of New and Old World commencement
and a consequence of and crucial contributing components to the accomplishment of the Spanish
annihilation of the region. As Spaniards infiltrated the region, introducing new cultural, political and
socioeconomic practices, the indigenous peoples found themselves subordinated and severely
weakened by plagues caused by the growing Spanish population and the unknown climatic factors of
the period and unable to resist to Spanish dominance. The epidemics that ravaged the Mexican
indigenous populations in the sixteenth century ensured the success of the Spanish Conquest forever
altering the face of Mexican history, demography, and culture.
Historically, the epidemics that decimated the indigenous population permanently altered the
trajectory of Mexican society. Pre Conquest Mexican society was well developed, arguably more so
than Spanish society: Mexico was clean: wastes were hauled away by barge and composted for
fertilizer; a thousand men swept and washed the streets each day...Most of Mexico s streets were
canals, laid out on a grid still followed by the modern

The Personality Analysis Of Wendy Williams
The Personality Analysis of Wendy Williams
Wendy Williams was born on July 18, 1944 in New Jersey. She spent most of her life there, but would
eventually rise to fame when she moved to New York to Pursue a career in broadcasting. She is now
best known as a radio and television personality. As of now, she is the host for the Wendy Williams
show, along with being a designer, a host, and a comedian, among other things. When watching her, it
is very clear that out of all the Big Five Personality traits, she is more of an extrovert than anything
else.
An extrovert, by definition, is an outgoing or expressive person. According to Kendra Cherry (2016),
it is often characterized by excitability, sociability, talkativeness, assertiveness and high amounts of
emotional expressiveness. In addition to those traits, Kennon M. Sheldon, Richard M. Ryan, Laird J.
Rawsthorne, and Barbara Ilardi also found that vigorousness is part of the traits associated with
extraversion (1997, p.4) That would make sense because if you watch Wendy Williams show, you will
see her express most,if not all of those traits.
Those who are extroverts score high in excitement seeking (or excitability) and adventurous behavior.
This means that they are very much into the idea of thrill seeking, and will grow bored without some
level of stimulation (class, 9/8/16). This idea could explain why Wendy is in the show business. When
you watch her show, every time the curtains rises, you see the excitement in her face.

A Quilted Balance Essay
The earth is filled with all sorts of substance, all sorts of matter. This is the fabric that sews it together.
That is how our faith should be, filled with all sorts us substance. We sew pieces of God s instructions
together for our faith to work and keep the seams nice and tight so the seam does not come lose. For
example, those pieces are belief, practice, knowledge, testing, exercising, growing pains, strength, and
stableness. All those substances are allowing for God to make us as a beautiful quilted blanket.
Faith cannot be seen with the physical eye. That is why the word says that we walk by faith and not by
sight. Each piece of fabric that we add to our faith makes up that quilted blanket, it starts takes up
space. The pieces fit together to fulfill a purpose. When we give faith a place in our lives, we are

Soccer consist of two teams trying to score a soccer ball into a goal on the opposing team s side of the

in many ways. The basic movement of kicking a soccer ball requires force, the release of kinetic
energy, acceleration etc. I will be discussing the importance of Physics in soccer and how it impacts
the overall game. In the sport Soccer the players are kicking the soccer ball up and down the field.

If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these
equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they need
to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to score.
Cowans 3
Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This
means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount of
strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass, than
soccer ball. When we apply force to the ball the same amount does come back, but because of the
unbalanced masses, we don t fill the push back, and this also means we have a greater Inertia because
of our leg s resistance. Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the soccer ball has a very
important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the ball they transfer their
momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times it s mass. Once your
momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be demonstrated when someone
passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum in the ball. You are controlling
the momentum. THE MAGNUS EFFECT Everything above is all because of the Magnus Effect. The

Moral Distress And Avoidance Behavior
In the article ¨Moral Distress And Avoidance Behavior In Nurses Working In Critical Care And
Noncritical Care Units, by Mary Jo De Villers, she states ¨it has been predicted that there will be a
shortage of 500,000 nurses in the United States by 2025.¨ This counts for the United States alone.
Many articles state that more and more research is being done on moral distress relating to nurses all
around. This leaves researchers wondering, could this be the main reason for the shortage of nurses?
Moral distress comes into play dramatically with specific nurses such as pediatric intensive care,
neonatal intensive care, and intensive care unit. Many of the nurses have to deal with life or death
situations on a daily basis working in those units. Dealing with that dilemma daily makes it harder for
this medical staff to go back to the hospital. All nurses deal with some kind of moral distress, but
critical care nurses suffer from a more intense level of distress. There are many factors that play into
the shortage of nurses. In Anthony Tuckett s study, he discovers reasons why nurses are leaving the
profession. In attempt to understand, he interviewed nurses and asked for their opinion on the lack of
physicians assistant. Overall, Tuckett concluded that the primary reasons for this are no manager
support, co worker support, and the fact that business policies are put before caring for the patient
(364). New nurses feel belittled when entering the profession and old nurses feel as

Organizational Behaviour (Busi 2733 X2)

Organizational Behavior is a field of study devoted to understanding, explaining, and ultimately
improving the attitudes and behaviours of individuals and groups in organizations (Colquitt, LePine,
Wesson, 2013, p. 7). One way in which we can understand an individual s behaviour in an
organization is by researching why workers may feel alienated on the job. Kai Erickson, an American

insecure, useless and empty .It may even leave them feeling aggravated and inadequate of actually
making a difference in the product that they are making. Erickson explained why this happens by
stating For one thing, people can be said to be alienated when they lose contact with the product of
their own labour (Erickson, 1986, p. 2). In Fact ,these feelings may become apparent when workers
are given tedious tasks to perform with no rewards or consideration to how they feel. For example, the
following excerpt relates the personal experience of Xu Lizhi an employee of Foxann Company that
produces I phones in China:
Even the machine is nodding off ,Sealed workshops store diseased iron ,Wages concealed behind
curtains , Like the love that young workers bury at the bottom of their hearts ,With no time for
expression, emotion crumbles into dust they have stomachs forged of iron Full of thick acid, sulphuric
and nitric Industry captures their tears before they have the chance to fall Time flows by, their heads
lost in fog Output weighs down their age, pain works overtime day and night In their lives, dizziness
before their time is latent The jig forces the skin to peel And while it s at it, plates on a layer of
aluminum alloy Some still endure, while others are taken by illness I am dozing between them,

The Pros And Cons Of The Miranda Warning
A lot of police officers note that the Miranda Warning is crucial to not only citizen s, but to law
enforcement agents as well. They force police officers to gather other scientific, and forensic evidence
to support their case, rather than just the words from the suspect. A Chicago study found that only four
out of ten thousand cases have suppressed motions due to a problem with the Miranda Warning. In
fact, Lieutenant James Blanchette of the Hartford Police Department said the majority of suspects
waive their rights (Blanchette 2006). If this is the case, then it can be argued that the Miranda Warning
does not negatively affect cases at all. In the landmark case of, Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court
ruled that suspects that are detained, cannot be questioned by the police, until they are read their
Miranda rights. Ernesto Miranda was charged with kidnapping, robbery, and rape. He was interrogated
for two hours, and then confessed to his crimes. There was no lawyer present, and Miranda was
mentally unstable. There was no other evidence against Miranda besides his confession. He was
sentenced to prison, but immediately appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court. That didn t work, so he
appealed to the U.S Supreme Court, which accepted. The Supreme Court ruled that Miranda s
confession cannot be used because the police officers failed to read Mr. Miranda his rights. This case
alone proved the power of knowing your rights. And now the way law enforcement agents conduct
their day to day jobs is changed. If Miranda had his rights read out to him, and the cops respected
those rights the cops would ve had to get actual evidence against Miranda. This infringement of
Miranda s rights proves that no matter the case, everyone should know their rights when arrested.
There have also been cases on the state level that have ruled against the correct use of the Miranda
warning. In the case of Dickerson v. United States, Charles Dickerson admitted to driving the getaway
car in a series of different bank robberies. Dickerson was under arrest when he confessed. When the
case went to court he filed a motion to get his statement suppressed because he claimed he was not
read his Miranda Rights before he made his statement. The FBI

Honesty In Americanah
Honesty is regarded as a virtue, especially in relationships, where both individuals are expected to be
honest with each other. Conversely, lying in relationships is seen as disingenuous and often destroys
the relationship. Yet in Americanah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie destabilizes our notion that lies are
inherently negative by using a lie to ground a seemingly easygoing relationship between Obinze, the
male protagonist, and his mother. Obinze and his mother have the perfect relationship, but it all seems

When Obinze puts his mother s lie in context, he realizes that she [had] lied for him as he had a better
chance of achieving his dream to go to America from England than from Nigeria (290). From this,

him enough to willingly sacrifice her own integrity just to help him. Struck with this newfound
perspective and emotional regret, once he returned to Nigeria, he spent a lot of time with her,
determined to make amends (291). This rough patch between Obinze and his mother not only brings
the two closer together, but also grounds their relationship in reality, as no good relationship is perfect.
Even after his mother s death, Obinze confesses how he sometimes forgot she had died and would
make cursory plans about flying to the east to see her (458). This demonstrates the integral role his
relationship with his mother played in his life, and how their relationship most likely recovered, and
even strengthened, after the lie. After all, it seems that even death was not strong enough to break

The Expansion of Computer Knowledge
Since the advent of silicon chips and microprocessors the worldwide demand for computers has
skyrocketed. Computer scientists around the world are pushing the boundaries of what is considered
possible in their field by making their creations more sophisticated and capable year by year. Artificial
Intelligence (A.I) is the idea of a computer system that can display acts of intelligence and
independent thought similar to humans. Many people approach the prospect of artificial intelligence
with fear and caution but for intrepid computer scientists true artificial intelligence is the ultimate
goal. People are reaching an ever more symbiotic relationship with computers and as the world moves
forward the question must be posed: Will computer intelligence ever eclipse our own?
Gordon E. Moore, the Intel co founder, stated in 1965 that the number of transistors on a one inch
diameter of silicon doubles every X number of months (X is taken to be between 18 and 24 months).
The aptly named Moore s Law now forms the basis of the semi conductor industry and its prediction
has proved remarkably accurate. Put simply, computers get twice as fast every two years. The
incredible advancement of computers processing power can be interpreted as indicating an inevitable
future where computers outstrip people. The issue with this assertion is that it makes the assumption
that increases in progress will stay constant; even the semi conductor industry acknowledges that the

enter the alternately complex, lonely, joyful, and strange lives of the inhabitants of the small town of
Winesburg, Ohio. While each character finds definition through their role in the community, we are
witness to the individual struggle each faces in trying to reconcile their secret life within. A perfect

Alice holds on to Ned and his promised love, even though was full of illusions, as an absolute truth.
I want to avoid being so much alone. If I am not careful I will grow unaccustomed to being around
people. (Anderson 118). Thus she joins new groups and attempts to recreate ties to her community.
However, she is unable to pass beyond her limiting life denying truth. A perfect example of this is not
even considering any type of relationship with Will Hurley, who she had met at a Church group. Alice
reaches the point of loneliness by the end which had been described in the beginning because,
regardless of her attempts to move on, her search from communal bonds and humanity had been

In the short story, Loneliness , Enoch Robinson also lives a life of illusions and loneliness. The story

Cryptosporidium species are intestinal protozoan parasites with a worldwide distribution, responsible
for diarrheal disease in a large number of vertebrate hosts including humans, and zoonotic infection

identified (Casemore and Jackson, 1984) and infection is maintained by several routes: direct person

contaminated food, fomites and especially drinking and recreational water (Atherton et al., 1995;

represents the major source of human infection (Fayer, 2004; Ramirez et al., 2004). Waterborne

prevalence of C. parvum in calves, however it is still debated whether sheep might have an
epidemiological role for zoonotic transmission (Robertson, 2009). Species within the genus
Cryptosporidium have been traditionally classified upon host range, oocyst morphology and site of

No Child Left Behind Argumentative Essay
Four words drove me into retirement No Child Left Behind. I could no longer attend to the needs and
wants of my students. All I was supposed to do was get them ready to take tests (Steve Eklund). Steve
Eklund, a schoolteacher in California, states this claim when asked his opinion on No Child Left
Behind by Education Votes, a page run by the National Education Association. Through this, he shows
his complete disapproval of the act and expresses just one of the reasons that many see it as a burden
to American education. Beginning in 2001, George W. Bush declared to the American people that it
was time to make a change in the American education system. The idea was dubbed No Child Left
Behind. The bill was later signed into law on January ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The act was made to follow up Lyndon B. Johnson s Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which
was created on April 9th, 1965. However, the No Child Left Behind act twisted itself to negatively
influence the American education system by implementing inane standards and learning targets that do
not measure actual learning.
One overlying problem seen is within the testing that takes place. Through the act standardized testing
is implemented as a way to determine student proficiency levels, taking typical daily subjects out of
the day to make room for test taking curriculum. Teachers are no longer spending a majority of time
on practical real world skills, but are cramming the days with test taking strategies and skills needed to
prove their intelligence to the United States government. High stakes testing causes teachers to teach
to the test, which means narrowing content to focus solely on topics covered by the tests (Bohrnstedt
et. al. 324). Students are no longer yearning for an education but rather more are dropping out yearly
since No Child Left Behind has taken place, due to the intense testing that is now required. Teachers
are having to

Galveston Hurricane Analysis
The catastrophic hurricane marked its aims on galveston on september 8, 1900 on the day of saturday.
It did a huge amount of damage, trees were uprooted, city was flooded with high speed wind that tor
off blinds, frames and all kinds of debris in the air which destroyed most of the houses. This deadliest
hurricane in the U.S history took lives of 6000 to 12000 people. Inhabitants of Galveston were warned
of the storm but not of the severity of it. My reason behind this would from, Ida smith Austin who was
also a resident of Galveston was aware of the storm but never thought of the storm to be this bad, that
that water will reach her house as it had never come close to it.
The local forecast Official stationed at galveston was Dr.cline. The

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Zinc Oxide
Zinc oxide is a semiconductor material II VI studied since the middle of 20the century. Most of the
physical properties of massive ZnO are therefore well known for several decades. The interest of the
researchers then declined, partly because of a major technological lock for the use of ZnO in
optoelectronics, namely the impossibility of doping the p type ZnO.
The ability to grow thin layers and low dimensional hetero structures (quantum wells, nano columns,
etc.) of good crystalline quality recently revitalized the research effort on ZnO, particularly with the
aim of obtaining effective devices for optoelectronics in the blue and near ultraviolet, in complement
gallium nitride. For this purpose, the main advantage of ZnO GaN is a lower cost, enabled by the
relative abundance of zinc over gallium. Zinc oxide powder is also used as an additive in numerous
products, for example plastics, ceramics, paints, pigments, cosmetics, etc.
In material science, another major benefit of zinc oxide is its strong exciton binding energy which
allows to preserve the exciton properties up to Room temperature. The cohesion energy of the exciton
is indeed twice greater in ZnO ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is the growth of quantum wells along non polar axes. These axes, perpendicular to the axis c,
make it possible to overcome the internal electric field. The main axes used in growth are axes a and
m. The first samples quantum wells of ZnO / (Zn, Mg) O non polar plan A were grown in 2007 on
sapphire substrates [Cha07]. The other axis is to reduce the density of defects crystalline, responsible
for non radiative losses. Most of the centers non radiative are crystal dislocations, which arise from
mesh clash inherent to the heteroepitaxy method. Homoepitaxy, and therefore the use of massive ZnO
substrate, theoretically promises a clear improvement in quality crystalline. A significant improvement
was observed only very recently

Who Is To Blame For Neil s Suicide
Boys, you must strive to find your own voice, because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you
are to find it at all. Thoreau said, Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. Don t be resigned to that.
Break out! Dead Poets Society is a movie that brings up much thought relating towards the astounding
English teacher, who s beliefs are shunned by those sceptical of his teachings, due to the suicide of a
beloved student at the private school he once taught at. The English teacher, Mr. John Keating, was
and was not to blame for the student s death. Mr. Keating might have been somewhat responsible for
the death of Neil Perry, the student, because he was a teacher with his own methods of teaching. I
always thought the idea of education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keating is definitely not responsible for Neil s own suicide, for Keating himself is not physically
liable for Neil. Mr. Keating does not kill Neil; Neil takes his own life. Neil did not want to let people
see him as a conformant to his father, he just wants to be an actor, but to his dismay he knew in reality
it was not going to be. Mr. Keating tells Neil to stand up to his father and Neil does so by performing
in the play; he meant no harm to any of the boys. I just talked to my father. He s making me quit the
play at Henley Hall. Acting s everything to me. I But he doesn t know! He I can see his point; we re
not a rich family, like Charlie s. We But he s planning the rest of my life for me, and I He s never
asked me what I want! says Neil. Mr. Keating says, Have you ever told your father what you just told
me? About your passion for acting? You ever showed him that?...Then you re acting for him, too. You
re playing the part of the dutiful son. Now, I know this sounds impossible, but you have to talk to him.
You have to show him who you are, what your heart is! All Mr. Keating wants to do is to teach them
the life lesson of the urge of someone to make the most of the present time and give little thought to
the future. Neil s future was all mapped out, yet he makes the best of it in his eyes. Neil s suicide can
be depicted through a quote of Mr. Keating, This is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your
hearts and

Outline And Explain Abrahams Behaviour Using 2 Different...
Abrahams Problem Abraham has a problem with alcohol. He started drinking his father s whiskey
when he was 12 and had difficulties attending school. Abraham s family all like to have a drink and at
family parties they tend drink to excess. Abraham says that drinking makes him feel like a big man ,
without a drink Abraham is quiet and unhappy. Abraham is unemployed and he spends most of his
benefits money on cheap alcohol. The aim of this study is to outline and explain Abrahams behaviour
using 2 different psychological Psychodynamic Approach The first thing to look at is that Abraham
has a problem with drinking, this problem can be explained with the fixation on a certain stage of
childhood development. According to Freud growing up we go through certain stages of development
he named psychosexual because they all represent certain erogenous zones of the body these are oral,
anal, phallic, latent and genital (Catatan ku, seorang doktor 2011). We are said to go through these
stages from birth all the way to adulthood, at different ages we gratify these different sexual areas with
different stimulation (breast feeding, expulsion of faeces, etc.) Abraham should be in the genital stage
that effects a child from puberty onwards, he should show heterosexual interest in people of a similar
age and have the ability to form mature relationships assuming he has successfully transitioned
through each stage. Failure to transition a stage would result in what is called a fixation

A Report On The Ponzi Scheme
Executive Summary
This report provides a breakdown and assessment of the Ponzi scheme run by American swindler and
former stockbroker, investment advisor, and financier Bernard Bernie Madoff. The research draws
attention to the biggest fraudulent scheme in U.S. history, emphasizing the use of the so called Ponzi
scheme. Madoff used a variety of techniques that made it difficult to disclose the scam. At the end of
each month Madoff sold all stocks and financial instruments so that the hedge fund only reported the
amount of cash to the authorities. Further on, investors did not have any online access to their
investments, instead they received a mail with their account information and balance each month. The
report iterates the details of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man behind it managed to keep the scheme running for over 15 years in one of most monitored
economic systems in the world. The man in charge of the operation, Bernard L. Madoff, got arrested
for his scheme and pled guilty to the embezzling of billions of US dollars. This report gives an insight
on how the Madoff fraud was carried out, how it could go unnoticed for so long and if similar frauds
could be prevented in the future.
Body

Investment securities and former chairmen for NASDAQ. Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities
LLC operates as a securities broker/dealer in the United States and internationally. It provides
executions for broker dealers, banks, and financial institutions. The company was founded in 1960 and
is headquartered on Wall Street in New York, New York.
Madoff is responsible for the biggest corporate scandal in American history, known for pulling of the
Ponzi scheme and stealing up to $65 billion on paper cash. Ponzi schemes are considered as highly
illegal and a fraudulent investment operation. It operates by luring investors in by guaranteeing
unusually high returns. Ponzi schemes are run by a central operator, who uses the money from new,
incoming investors to pay off the promised returns to older ones. This makes the operation seem
profitable and legitimate, even though no actual profit is being made. Meanwhile, the person behind

The Choices Made Effect The Future
After graduating high school, life actually begins. The choices made effect the future, a big choice to
make is whether to go into the military. The military force closest to civilians is the National Guard.
National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is also true.
Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when deciding a future
in the National Guard. Humans only have so long to live, time wasted is time that cannot be
recaptured, time is a currency that without thriftiness can dwindle into nothing. When someone joins
the National Guard, he/she signs to work for eight years of their life. Depending on the force joined in
the National Guard, the basic training is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Civilians can achieve two Bachelor degrees, if money isn t a problem, in the eight years National
Guard members serve. Since civilians do not hold drills on weekends or go to mandatory meetings
they can hold a job because their schedule is more manageable (National Guard Members Struggle to
Keep Civilian Jobs). Family is less of an issue because civilians are not withheld by a contract to leave
the state by the federal government. All of the factors point that civilians are better equipped to save
time. Civilians might be better in the department of saving time but money is a different story. During
training, National Guard forces are paid as if they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the
training is over, the money declines for reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active
members. The pay is around two hundred to three hundred dollars for reserve members, and one
thousand five hundred dollars to two thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a
month (What will I get paid). The pay of the National Guard might not be exciting, but the military
truly shines in the area of education. At a local college, such as Brigham Young University of Idaho, it
would cost around twenty one thousand dollars for schooling (GI Bill Comparison Tool). However,
the National Guard can pay for all of it if the member drills and

The Impact Of The Automobile On Society
The automobile has contributed to the society of Americans in many different ways, for example in
1915 the car was invented and provided many new jobs for Americans across the country. The
automobile created jobs like gas stations, auto repair shops, also rubber and steel companies
skyrocketed. Getting jobs became a lot simpler with a car, it was a lot easier to drive a car to work
then walk to work that is 15 miles away. But to the new invention of the car there were down sides,
according to Facts Along the Road there were, 10.9 million auto mobile accidents and almost 36
thousand deaths in 2009. With the auto mobile there are good parts and bad parts. With these actions
happening I feel that the car should remain a part of our lives. Even

Japan Was Colonised Essay
According to Moritz Bonn, the modern world is the result of colonisation, and colonisation is
generally defined as the transfer of political, economic, and cultural institutions from one society to
another. During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the world was in chaos. A number
of countries from all over the world had colonised other states or had been colonised by others.
However, among the states that had escaped from the fate of being colonised, Japan stood out more
noticeably as it had become westernised, and turned itself into the only nation in East Asia with a
strong and competent military power as other Western countries, such as the U.S., Germany, and
British. There are several major factors that contribute to the fact that Japan was not colonised by the
Western powers. Firstly, it is primarily related to the success of social and cultural reforms of Japan
during the Meiji period. Secondly, it is correlated to the Japan s completion of westernisation and
industrialisation.To begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Intervention Programs ( Anjour ) Intervention Programs (Anjour) Early alert intervention programs can be beneficial to colleges to assist them with identifying students who are at risk of not being academically successful (Tampke, 2012 2013; Bryan Simmons, 2009). Equally important, students entering college for the first time encounter significant changes from those encountered in high school as the academic demands are usually more rigorous. In addition, some freshman students struggle with academic success, which impacts persistence; therefore, early intervention programs should be considered. According to Vanthournout, Coertjens, Donche, and Van Petegem (2012), student academic persistence is an expected outcome of early intervention programs. Learning Methods Course. Tuckman and Kennedy (2011) compared a group of 702 freshman college students at a large mid western university: half of the students took a learning methods course, and half of the students did not take the course. The purpose of the course was to assist students with increasing accountability, self esteem, learning modality, readiness skills, and managing their personal responsibilities. Data from the study concluded that students who completed the methods course had a higher rate of persistence towards academic achievement, and graduated at a higher rate than the students who did not take the course. Moreover, the occurrence of graduating was 50% greater for those students who were experiencing academic difficulty. For this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cultural Identity Vs American Culture What is a person s cultural identity based off of? According to Google, Cultural identity is often defined as the identity of a group, culture or an individual, influenced by one s belonging to a group or culture. So what is my cultural identity? I believe no one person has one singular cultural identity. I can identify myself as a daughter, a sister, a Swede, an American, a water polo player, a swimmer, a Mormon, a high school student, or even a world traveler. In this paper the one I will identify as an American. As a world traveler there are many cultures I have seen very different from the American culture. Things that make other cultures different from the way Americans do things are based off of their customs, their routines, and their traditions. For example, in Greece it is customary for the unfamous and poor to pay for the rich and famous s weddings and funerals. That is different from the American culture because here in America it customary that families and sometimes even friends plan and pay for their own family member s wedding or funeral. Another example of a difference between American culture and other cultures is the way we celebrate holidays. For example, my European family celebrates their countries independence day with solemn parades and reserved attitudes, while as Americans we celebrate our independence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m not saying that every single American is like that, there are many Americans that are up for anything and are willing to try something new, but for most for Americans new things are stressful and too foreign. Most Americans like familiar and consistent, not new and unknown. It s no one s fault necessarily, it s just the way they were raised. As Americans we learn at an early age that we are citizens of the greatest and most free country. Why would we want to live anywhere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Carol Stack’s Call to Home Essay Progress and individualism are very much celebrated in American culture. Many people migrate to urban cities in the search of economic prosperity and to achieve the elusive American Dream. City life can often come as a shock to individuals not accustomed to a fast paced lifestyle; conversely it can change a person. Such change can transform a person to lose the values and beliefs they were raised with which consequently attribute to losing the bonds that they once held with their families. This is not the case with the families portrayed in Carol Stack s ethnography Call to Home. The book depicts Southern African American families living in rural, North and South Carolina s towns which migrate to northern urban cities for economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While in the north, individual s sustained close bonds with their families and home. The adults often flocked home during summer vacations or whenever possible. Moreover the children were key players in maintaining close relations between the families in the North and South. Children were often sent to the South for summer vacations, semesters during the school year and some for most of their childhood when their parents moved away. It was not that parents did not want to take them but it was that they wanted the grandparents to raise their children as to instill and not lose sight of family values (Stack, 1996). Although most children were left for grandparents to rear, the children and the young adults were also caring for the elderly by helping them cope with ailments due to old age. In turn the adults in the north were helping their communities back home by sending their hard earned money. Family values and traditions are very important in maintaining social bonds in African American families. In addition, it is clear that African American families are matrifocal and matriarchal. Matrifocality is present in Burdy s Bend Miss Pearl is a great example (Stack, 1996), in the film The Language You Cry In, and as discussed in Dr. Stevenson s in class lecture (J. Stevenson, personal communication, November 18, 2013). The community members in Burdy s Bend, all knew they could count on Miss Pearl whenever they needed help. As noted ... • 5. A Study on Conservative Resurgence Conservative Resurgence (Order #A2065848) For many years the Republican party and its conservative base was the central point of blame for the economic woes that had occurred in America during the Great Depression. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his liberal Democratic party were portrayed as the saviors of the United States economy and the only intellectual and political tradition that remained for America. However, the social excesses, political instability and economic turmoil that the liberals of the late 1960 s and early 1970 s created, led to a resurgence in conservative thinking. Americans began to reject the complete dependence on the government, and the inefficiency and corruption associated with it, in favor of a more independent and politically conservative way of thinking. As a result, 1980 saw the election of Ronald Reagan, a hard core conservative Republican as President of the United States. Reagan s victory over then President Jimmy Carter signaled a distinct resurgence in conservative values and political activity. In the 1950 s, Lionel Trilling, famous literary critic and writer, stated that in the United States at this time liberalism is not only the dominant but even the sole intellectual tradition. (McPherson, 2008, p.30) This belief was maintained throughout the 1960 s and 1970 s within the American intellectual and political community. In addition, the conservative opposition to the civil rights movement, although for constitutional reasons, had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Dbq Italian Cantata JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: CANTATA In the Seventeenth century a new style of composition had its origin in Rome, Italy. This style is known as the cantata da camera or secular cantata. Vocal chamber music performed in private for the wealthy at their houses, became the most common or popular social entertainment way of the moment. This essay intends to present an interpretation of the tale along the lines of theme. In reading Hawthorne s tales, Herman Melville in Hawthorne and His Mosses (in Literary World, August 17, 24, 1850) makes discoveries relevant to the themes: Where Hawthorne is known, he seems to be deemed a pleasant writer, with a pleasant style, a sequestered, harmless man, from whom any deep and weighty thing would hardly be anticipated: a man who means no meanings. It would break her dear little heart; and I d rather break my own! Friend, said he, stubbornly, my mind is made up. Not another step will I budge on this errand. What if a wretched old woman do choose to go to the devil, when I thought she was going to Heaven! Is that any reason why I should quit my dear Faith, and go after her? Faith! shouted Goodman Brown, in a voice of agony and desperation; and the echoes of the forest mocked him, crying Faith! Faith! as if bewildered wretches were seeking her, all through the wilderness. And when Goodman thinks that he has lost his Faith to the devil, he despairs: My Faith is gone! cried he, after one stupefied moment. There is no good on earth; and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this world given. And maddened with despair, so that he laughed loud and long, did Goodman Brown grasp his staff and set forth again, at such a rate, that he seemed to fly along the forest path, rather than to walk or run. At the very climax of the tale the protagonist does not think about himself, even though he feels that his wife has gone to the devil; rather Goodman persists in trying ... The topics discussed over the previous 4 weeks have helped to identify and distinguish between various key leadership elements which stand to benefit tremendously from developing a conscious awareness pertaining to the concepts themselves. Throughout life, individuals must overcome a seemingly infinite array of obstacles and challenges, for some, succumbing to failures were never an option. While taking everything into consideration, many realizations began to occur, the following paper reveals the importance for having leadership and conflict resolution strategies in place and available at a moment s notice. Personal and professional environments are always subject to change, one day a person might be washing dishes for a restaurant and instantaneously becomes wealthy and decides to purchase the restaurant. • 12. Real Life Couple s Trouble in The Stockton Civic Theatre’s... The Stockton Civic Theatre s production of Avenue Q last Thursday night depicts an accurate portrayal of life after graduating from college. The protagonist is a fresh out of college puppet named Princeton who is trying to seek a job and housing in the outer borough of New York City. After finding a cheap and unoccupied room in an apartment located on Avenue Q, Princeton befriends his neighbors who are made up of both people and puppets. Princeton meets and falls in love with an elementary teacher, Kate Monster. Together they face the same real life problems couples deal with in present times. Throughout the whole performance, Princeton is constantly troubled about finding his purpose in life. Princeton, who is played by Jacob Bronson has the ability to connect with the audience despite being visible holding the puppet on stage. Bronson is not only a good actor, but also excels in his singing. He has a very loud and distinctive voice which is proven in the beginning of the play, What Do You Do with a B.A. in English? Kate Monster, who is played by Randi Linee also has the ability to connect with the audience even though she is clearly visible holding the puppet. She gives Kate a very vibrant and expressive character and uses hand movements to help show Kate s emotions. Kate s hand gestures are not a big distraction unlike the other actors holding puppets. Linee s representation of the emotion of being distraught over love is very realistic and makes the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice Paul (Alice Paul Quote) Due to recent events unfolding all across the nation many efforts have been made to push for more equality. From movements like Gay Rights and #blacklivesmatter down to equal rights for people in the workforce America is truly pushing for the rights to encompass all. In recent polls conducted by TV stations here in Houston it was shown that supporters of the ordinance [have] a slight lead, but each poll indicated that about one fifth of likely voters were undecided (Lozano). Sally Field, an Oscar winning actress, supports H.E.R.O on the bases that this is very personal to her because her mother and grandmother were both born here in Houston, and she s the mother of a gay son (Karedes). Although many are for the act, on the other side of the ballpark opponents contend the ordinance would infringe on their religious beliefs against homosexuality (Lozano). Taking the view points on H.E.R.O from two gay friends shows both viewpoints on the ordinance. One, Sydney, stated that they were okay with the act and that [the] country was founded on equality (Hinojosa). The other, Amanda, is fearful that there is a potential that their friends might get hurt if people misuse the equality of the bathrooms (Hinojosa) and is focused more on just one aspect of the ordinance. Porter Robinson and Madeon are both electro house, dubstep, synthpop, and EDM (Electronic Dance Music) music DJ s, who have decided to collaborate and tour together. Doors opened for the concert at 9 PM, with DJ s Robotaki (Ro bo ta key) and Danger opening for them. Robotaki focused more on house music, while Danger was more heavy drum and bass electronic music. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A common theme throughout the show was the use of the Wall of Sound, where many different instruments and beats were being played simultaneously. This made the entire room fill with sound, making it almost impossible to distinguish between the multiple layers of beats hitting you. Although, this may have been true for much of the concert, the DJ s also incorporated the concepts of minimalism into their work, by using very few instruments: drums, piano, a synthesizer, and turntables. The tempo of the songs varied greatly throughout their performance, with some songs being slowed down to incorporate new, unique sounds, and others being sped up to introduce the next track. The canons of the songs vary greatly, with some sets of songs sounding very similar to each other, then it will become quiet, and then the canon will change again as the concert progresses into its next stages. Repetition also plays a major role in Porter Robinson and Madeon s music, creating a steady beat that s easy to move to, with the rest of the song never deviating greatly from the original beat. A great example of this is Porter Robinsons song, Divinity, where the initial beat sets the theme for the rest of the song. In every song the musical elements build upon each other. For example, in their song, Shelter, it starts with a beat and an electronic voice speaking. As the song progresses these elements still exist, but other beats and sounds are ... The issue is particularly acute if you are a citizen living in poverty, but the issue is of critical importance to those citizens that must support those areas stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent poverty corridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others along Interstate 95. Allendale County stands out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address multigenerational poverty. This paper deals with Allendale County poverty beginning by offering insight into poverty issues within South Carolina, followed by a SWOT analysis, a finagling offering a few possible solutions. Persistent Poverty in South Carolina Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the 1960s to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to account for inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold levels annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a family has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. The deteriorating antebellum era makes the perfect backdrop for gothic literature, which highlights grotesque characters and themes of death, terror, and social isolation. Carson McCullers, born in Georgia, felt personally connected to these themes. She was a young genius, and felt alone in her advanced ideas and mature understanding of social issues. In a world full of labels and boxes, McCullers fit in no category perfectly, and felt the pain of that isolation acutely. The one thing all people are united by is their inability to feel united, and McCullers s novels strives to depict this dilemma of human existence. McCullers turned to writing to express her suffering and offer solace to people like her in a world that felt lonely and unfair. Carson McCullers uses her novels much like how some use a diary, and through her characters she expresses her deepest fears and mental anguish. Throughout each one of her novels is a prevailing theme of isolation from society, which manifests itself in different ways, but can always be tied back to the inescapable loneliness of the author. McCullers and her characters felt abandoned by God, the one thing that is supposed to be comforting and constant, and alone in their quest to become part of something greater than themselves. As of now, she is the host for the Wendy Williams show, along with being a designer, a host, and a comedian, among other things. When watching her, it is very clear that out of all the Big Five Personality traits, she is more of an extrovert than anything else. An extrovert, by definition, is an outgoing or expressive person. According to Kendra Cherry (2016), it is often characterized by excitability, sociability, talkativeness, assertiveness and high amounts of emotional expressiveness. In addition to those traits, Kennon M. Sheldon, Richard M. Ryan, Laird J. Rawsthorne, and Barbara Ilardi also found that vigorousness is part of the traits associated with extraversion (1997, p.4) That would make sense because if you watch Wendy Williams show, you will see her express most,if not all of those traits. Those who are extroverts score high in excitement seeking (or excitability) and adventurous behavior. This means that they are very much into the idea of thrill seeking, and will grow bored without some level of stimulation (class, 9/8/16). This idea could explain why Wendy is in the show business. If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they need to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to score. Cowans 3 Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount of strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass, than soccer ball. Many articles state that more and more research is being done on moral distress relating to nurses all around. This leaves researchers wondering, could this be the main reason for the shortage of nurses? Moral distress comes into play dramatically with specific nurses such as pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, and intensive care unit. Many of the nurses have to deal with life or death situations on a daily basis working in those units. Dealing with that dilemma daily makes it harder for this medical staff to go back to the hospital. All nurses deal with some kind of moral distress, but critical care nurses suffer from a more intense level of distress. There are many factors that play into the shortage of nurses. In Anthony Tuckett s study, he discovers reasons why nurses are leaving the profession. In attempt to understand, he interviewed nurses and asked for their opinion on the lack of physicians assistant. • 34. The Pros And Cons Of The Miranda Warning A lot of police officers note that the Miranda Warning is crucial to not only citizen s, but to law enforcement agents as well. They force police officers to gather other scientific, and forensic evidence to support their case, rather than just the words from the suspect. A Chicago study found that only four out of ten thousand cases have suppressed motions due to a problem with the Miranda Warning. In fact, Lieutenant James Blanchette of the Hartford Police Department said the majority of suspects waive their rights (Blanchette 2006). If this is the case, then it can be argued that the Miranda Warning does not negatively affect cases at all. In the landmark case of, Miranda v. Arizona, the Supreme Court ruled that suspects that are detained, cannot be questioned by the police, until they are read their Miranda rights. Ernesto Miranda was charged with kidnapping, robbery, and rape. He was interrogated for two hours, and then confessed to his crimes. There was no lawyer present, and Miranda was mentally unstable. There was no other evidence against Miranda besides his confession. He was sentenced to prison, but immediately appealed to the Arizona Supreme Court. That didn t work, so he appealed to the U.S Supreme Court, which accepted. The Supreme Court ruled that Miranda s confession cannot be used because the police officers failed to read Mr. Miranda his rights. This case alone proved the power of knowing your rights. And now the way law enforcement agents conduct their day to day jobs is changed. If Miranda had his rights read out to him, and the cops respected those rights the cops would ve had to get actual evidence against Miranda. This infringement of Miranda s rights proves that no matter the case, everyone should know their rights when arrested. There have also been cases on the state level that have ruled against the correct use of the Miranda warning. In the case of Dickerson v. United States, Charles Dickerson admitted to driving the getaway car in a series of different bank robberies. Dickerson was under arrest when he confessed. When the case went to court he filed a motion to get his statement suppressed because he claimed he was not read his Miranda Rights before he made his statement. The FBI ... Cleveland Museum of Art (Ohio) has in its collection a very valuable piece an Athenian neck amphora produced in c. 550 500 BC. The vase was executed in the black figure technique, and it is attributed to Antimenes Painter. The amphora is richly decorated. One part represents Herakles and the lion between Iolaos holding club and Athena with Boeotian shield. The other part features Dionysos standing with satyrs and maenads. I like the amphora very much, especially its decoration and an interesting subject matter. The First Labor of Herakles is the subject of the front side. • 37. The Expansion of Computer Knowledge Since the advent of silicon chips and microprocessors the worldwide demand for computers has skyrocketed. Computer scientists around the world are pushing the boundaries of what is considered possible in their field by making their creations more sophisticated and capable year by year. Artificial Intelligence (A.I) is the idea of a computer system that can display acts of intelligence and independent thought similar to humans. Many people approach the prospect of artificial intelligence with fear and caution but for intrepid computer scientists true artificial intelligence is the ultimate goal. People are reaching an ever more symbiotic relationship with computers and as the world moves forward the question must be posed: Will computer intelligence ever eclipse our own? Gordon E. Moore, the Intel co founder, stated in 1965 that the number of transistors on a one inch diameter of silicon doubles every X number of months (X is taken to be between 18 and 24 months). The aptly named Moore s Law now forms the basis of the semi conductor industry and its prediction has proved remarkably accurate. Put simply, computers get twice as fast every two years. The incredible advancement of computers processing power can be interpreted as indicating an inevitable future where computers outstrip people. The issue with this assertion is that it makes the assumption that increases in progress will stay constant; even the semi conductor industry acknowledges that the speed at which processing ... • 38. Winesburg Ohio Critical Analysis Essay Written by Sherwood Anderson in 1919, Winesburg, Ohio, a collection of short stories, allows us to enter the alternately complex, lonely, joyful, and strange lives of the inhabitants of the small town of Winesburg, Ohio. While each character finds definition through their role in the community, we are witness to the individual struggle each faces in trying to reconcile their secret life within. A perfect example of two characters are Alice Hindman and Enoch Robinson. The loneliness and illusion that encompass the lives of Alice Hindman and Enoch Robinson are the result of the discrepancy between their own capacity for intimacy and affection and the inability of others to truly understand them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alice holds on to Ned and his promised love, even though was full of illusions, as an absolute truth. I want to avoid being so much alone. If I am not careful I will grow unaccustomed to being around people. (Anderson 118). Thus she joins new groups and attempts to recreate ties to her community. However, she is unable to pass beyond her limiting life denying truth. A perfect example of this is not even considering any type of relationship with Will Hurley, who she had met at a Church group. Alice reaches the point of loneliness by the end which had been described in the beginning because, regardless of her attempts to move on, her search from communal bonds and humanity had been fruitless . In the short story, Loneliness , Enoch Robinson also lives a life of illusions and loneliness. The story of Enoch is in fact the story of a room almost more than it is the story of a man. (Anderson 168). The room and its inhabitants are applied to Enoch and his mysterious, illusional character. As Enoch grew up in Winesburg, his mother s house lay dark because all the window blinds were kept closed. Enoch was described as a quiet, dense child. Enoch s home symbolizes his personality and his outlook toward others. Enoch would walk top school with his nose in a book, not seeing the passing traffic. Cryptosporidium species are intestinal protozoan parasites with a worldwide distribution, responsible for diarrheal disease in a large number of vertebrate hosts including humans, and zoonotic infection has long been acknowledged, as it is life threatening in immunocompromised patients (Current et al., 1983). The disease has a faecal oral cycle, occurring with the ingestion of infecting oocystes, which have environmental resistance. Separate anthroponotic and zoonotic transmission cycles have been identified (Casemore and Jackson, 1984) and infection is maintained by several routes: direct person to person transmission, animal to person contact either directly or indirectly and by ingestion of contaminated food, fomites and especially drinking and recreational water (Atherton et al., 1995; Casemore, 1990; Gallaher et al., 1989; Joce et al., 1991; Meinhardt et al., 1996). To date it is considered one of the most difficult to control waterborne microorganism and contaminated water represents the major source of human infection (Fayer, 2004; Ramirez et al., 2004). Waterborne outbreaks in human from agricultural sources have long been ascribed to cattle due the high prevalence of C. parvum in calves, however it is still debated whether sheep might have an epidemiological role for zoonotic transmission (Robertson, 2009). Steve Eklund, a schoolteacher in California, states this claim when asked his opinion on No Child Left Behind by Education Votes, a page run by the National Education Association. Through this, he shows his complete disapproval of the act and expresses just one of the reasons that many see it as a burden to American education. Beginning in 2001, George W. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The act was made to follow up Lyndon B. Johnson s Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which was created on April 9th, 1965. One overlying problem seen is within the testing that takes place. Through the act standardized testing is implemented as a way to determine student proficiency levels, taking typical daily subjects out of the day to make room for test taking curriculum. Teachers are no longer spending a majority of time on practical real world skills, but are cramming the days with test taking strategies and skills needed to prove their intelligence to the United States government. High stakes testing causes teachers to teach to the test, which means narrowing content to focus solely on topics covered by the tests (Bohrnstedt et. al. 324). Most of the physical properties of massive ZnO are therefore well known for several decades. The interest of the researchers then declined, partly because of a major technological lock for the use of ZnO in optoelectronics, namely the impossibility of doping the p type ZnO. The ability to grow thin layers and low dimensional hetero structures (quantum wells, nano columns, etc.) of good crystalline quality recently revitalized the research effort on ZnO, particularly with the aim of obtaining effective devices for optoelectronics in the blue and near ultraviolet, in complement gallium nitride. For this purpose, the main advantage of ZnO GaN is a lower cost, enabled by the relative abundance of zinc over gallium. Zinc oxide powder is also used as an additive in numerous products, for example plastics, ceramics, paints, pigments, cosmetics, etc. In material science, another major benefit of zinc oxide is its strong exciton binding energy which allows to preserve the exciton properties up to Room temperature.
