Systemic Review
Appraisal of Systemic Review
Healthcare workers, especially nurses, have for ultimate goal to provide the best care possible for
patients. Caring for patients does not only include making sure that they are safe and well taking care
of but it also requires for nurses to act as patients advocate and ensure that the best methods are used
to provide care. Nurses contribute to ensuring that the patients are as comfortable as possible and help
prevent or reduce pain as much as they can (Dearholt. Dang, 2012, p. 12P). People have a different
reaction to pain. For some patients being pain free might be one their ultimate goal while they are in
the hospital and if a nurse can help achieve that goal that will significantly contribute in making the ...

This rating scale is used to determine whether or not research is worth putting into practice. During
the appraisal of research, there is a different level of evidence that is taking into consideration. There
is three quality rating with five different categories. The quality rating is graded from high, good, and
low or major flaw level of evidence. A high quality research requires the study to be well structured
and organized with all the necessary elements and definite conclusion. Research is considered good
when the result is within normal limits and the conclusion although not conclusive can lead to more
research. Lastly, a low quality rating did not provide much information and stayed inconclusive
(Dearholt. Dang, 2012, p. 12P). There is five level of evidence in which research can fall under. The
level is from I to V. the level I includes all systematic review researches that are experimental with a
randomized controlled trial. These researches might be randomized with or without meta analysis.
Level II includes all the systematic review that are quasi experimental studies. These researches might

The Book Thief Book Report
Through the eyes of Death, Liesel Meminger s story is told. Young Liesel and her brother, escorted by
their mother, are travelling by train to live with their new foster parents, Rosa and Hans Hubermann.
During this trip, Werner, her brother, dies a mysterious death. During his burial, Liesel snags a book
from the gravedigger. This was the first of many books to be stolen. When Liesel and her mother
arrive in Molching, Germany, Liesel is reluctant to leave. Hans coaxes her inside and becomes the
fatherly figure she never had. Liesel adjusts to her new life, but is tormented by nightmares of her
brothers death. Hans helps her cope by teaching her to read. She soon learns the value of words and
steals another book at the book burning held to celebrate Hitler s birthday. She also begins to steal
books from Ilsa Hermann, a former customer of their laundry business. While attending school, Liesel
meets Rudy Steiner, who happens to be her neighbor. Rudy is obsessed with Jesse Owens, for he went
as far as to paint himself with charcoal when practicing his sprints. Despite this incident, Liesel still
befriends him. Liesel also becomes good friends with Max, a Jew that Hans begins harboring in their
house. However, after a while, Max s safety is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitler enforces his idea of a superior race by wiping out all books deemed untrustworthy or against
their religious beliefs. For example, books threatening Hitler s power were publicly burnt. Liesel was

her misdeed. She fears that someone saw her, for those books went against Hitler s beliefs, and if she s
caught, she will be punished. As these books, the ones threatening Hitler s ideal society, were being
destroyed, new ones were being created. A well known example is Hitler s Mein Kampf. Hans buys

The Labor Of Migrant And Seasonal Farmworkers
Many economically important field crops in the United States depends on the labor of migrant and
seasonal farmworkers. Over the past years the United States has had the largest population of
immigrants. Of course many of these immigrants are from different places in the world; but the largest
population is from Latin America. Over half of the immigrant population is from Latin America and
almost 40% entered the US in the past decade (Pransky, 2002). Recently many of these immigrate live
and work in the metropolitan area. The ages rang from 18 to 64. Considering the number of
immigrants thriving the health status and needs of immigrants is important. This issue of immigrant
farmworker is not being discussed in day to day basis. Many of these immigrants migrate for work but
find themselves living in poverty, language barriers, working conditions, no health insurance and

Causes Of The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident
The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident was a devastating nuclear accident. It happened April 26, 1996 at the
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The accident happened during a yearly test (Robinson). The test that
occurred had been done the year before and when fine, but when tested again, it went amiss (
Chernobyl Accident: Sequence of Events, World Nuclear Association). There are many causes for why
the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened like a flawed system, human error, and no plans if an
emergency should happen. There are also many health effects of what happened after the Chernobyl
Nuclear Accident like mental instability, a higher chance for thyroid cancer, and more cases of
leukemia.
One of the main reasons that the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident happened was because the reactor was
flawed. Although every Nuclear Power Plant has flaws, Chernobyl had some pretty noticeable ones. A
big design flaw was the way the reactor was made. Another design flaw is the lack of safety features.
The last main design flaw is the flaws that could have been prevented.
When building the reactors at Chernobyl, it was decided to build an RBMK reactor (The Chernobyl
Gallery). An RBMK reactor is also known as a boiling water reactor (The Chernobyl Gallery). The
Soviets did not think that an RBMK reactor was capable of exploding (Read). An RBMK reactor was
at the time considered the cheaper and safer option although it did release roughly 40 times the
amount of radiation of a Pressurized Water Reactor

Influence Of Peter The Great
There have been many absolute rulers that ruled societies throughout history. Some of those rulers that
had power would use it to either abuse their power to control everyone and have their own rules or the
rulers would enlighten their power and give the people more privileges. One ruler that enlightened his
power was Peter the Great. Peter the great used his power to improve society and used ideas from the
ruler before. Those ideas from the ruler before that was never used peter the great took those ideas and
made the ideas happen for the people and society.
When peter the great first came into power peter the great wanted to take old ideas and improve them
for him the people and society. peter the the great wanted to change how the people looked and
dressed and Peter the Great made people shave their beards if they wanted to keep their beards they
would have to pay a special tax in order to keep the beard. Peter wanted the people also to get rid of
their old clothes and wear new clothes that were better. Peter as a ruler made sure his ideas could be
perfect for him and the people and make sure his ideas were what the people wanted. One great idea
Peter the Great had was finding a way to make trade available for the people because in europe at that

Why Did The Viggoth Invade The Greeks
The Visigoths were a part of the german barbaric tribe the Goths. They were settled in the western part
of Germany near the black sea, this was their original origin. Their enemy were The Huns, a barbaric
group from modern day central Asia. This is important information because The Huns were the reason
why the Visigoths went to Rome. The Huns had started to invade and The Visigoths asked roman
emperor Valen for shelter. The Romans were happy with having them there and they wanted them to
assimilate to Roman culture. They ended up settling in an area near Danube. By 376 CE. The
Visigoths began to feel mistreated by the Roman governors and began to rebel. This barbaric rebellion
led to The Gothic Wars between roman forces and the Visigoths. ... Show more content on

After the Valens death the new emperor Theodosius tried to create peace between the Romans and the
Visigoths. This was only successful until the death of Theodosius in 395 CE. After that the Visigoths
began to see Alaric I as their king. He tried to bring Visigoth culture into Roman culture by using
Visigoth governors. Alaric I took Visigothic forces into Greece to begin and take over. After he was
done with Greece he went back to Italy and in 410 CE began to sack Rome. When Alaric I died,
Athaulf was the new leader and he took over Gaul and created the Visigothic Kingdom of Toulouse.
Many leaders later the Visigoths managed to take over a large chunk of Spain. In 507 CE, Frank leader
Clovis defeated Visigoth leader Alaric II in the battle of Clovis and the Visigothic kingdom became
Frankish. The legacy that the Visigoths left were that they are seen as nation builders. They were the
first to create a united kingdom and be successful. The Visigoths themselves did not make any
inventions but they basically created Hispania and then they therefore led to the inventions of glass

The Importance Of Satirical Humor
Satirical humor can form an idea of the comedy that expresses a humorous way to entertain the
audience; it shows the different perspectives on how they manipulate the ideas and turn it into
something funny to the audience. Satire always has different flavors on how they appeal enjoyable to
the audience. Satire demonstrates something secure and ironic. Satirical humor is a communication
tool to get involved more in politics in a positive way to people. Sometimes, satire can misunderstand
people about their jokes are very insulting to the society. Satirical humor expresses some opinions
about political acts so people can view them more critically. The satirical humor expresses the social
criticism on wider issues about politics. Satirical humor can help involved with people with
entertainment through media in politics, and it gains the people s attention. Satire features a
heightened sense of irony, highlighting contradictions, inconsistencies, absurdities, mining them for
their humor, and even highlighting flaws and fakeries to people (Day 256). The satirical humor reveals
everything about hypocrisy and foolishness of people, organizations, society, and governments. Also,
satire can involve people to know more about their politics because it can easily seduce them to
experience as a passive form of humor rather than as a source of moral distress in requiring citizen
activism. For example, The Colbert Report is one that uses satirical humor to expose U.S. politics. The

How Did Emile Durkheim Characterize Suicide
Introduction
The primary source that will be discussed in this paper is Suicide written by Emile Durkheim.
Durkheim was a French sociologist who was most famous in the 19th and 20th century for his work
on the structure of society. During the time of his writings, he analyzed different social institutions and
the roles in which they play in society. As a result, his work was associated with the theoretical
framework of structural functionalism. The 19th century was most known for the Industrial
Revolution. This is evident in Durkheim s writing in Suicide.
Suicide The intent of Durkheim s writing was to discover why there was such an increase of suicide
rates as nations became industrialized and consumer capitalism became dominant. Durkheim s ...

Coming into a big school and leaving everything you know, often leads individuals to feel
overwhelmed and stressed. Additionally, when these individuals feel as though they do not fit in, they
are often lost. In the first year of university, students are experiencing so much more freedom than
they are used to. This adds pressure and as a result, not all individuals in these situations know how to
cope. In university, there are certain guidelines and expectations. This falls into altruistic suicide. You
are told as a student that you have to reach a certain GPA, be involved in clubs and sports and have a
job. This is over involvement and as a result students can become easily overwhelmed with the
expectations of school. Lastly, Durkheim discusses anomic suicide, which can be applied to the
confusion and lack of social direction as new students come into the new community of university.
Additionally, students have left their family, which has acted as a community, and have been placed in
an institution much how Durkheim was explaining. There is more likely to be moral confusion and
with a lack of direction, students have the ability to make bad decisions. The idea of failure is hugely
stigmatized in university students and can be seen as something university students fear the most.
Being afraid of failure or not knowing what path to take or what direction of job you should

The Effect Of Plasma On The Membrane Performance
Introduction When put under stress, at some point materials begin to decline and perform poorly. Cell
membranes are no different. The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for the
regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks carried
out by the cell membrane and endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical stress,
however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to perform its
tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between membrane
performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in a 50%
methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The
membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by
the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s
hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The
membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in
temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by
amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off, and
therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the temperature the
sample is put through, and the controlled variables

Money, Luck, Love in Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence
The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence is a story, which emphasizes the battered relationship
between a mother and her child. The author s work is known for its explorations of human nature and
illustrates the nature of materialism. The author employs techniques of the fairy tale to moralize on the
value of love and the dangers of the money. D.H. Lawrence presents an upper class family that is
destroyed by greed because they always felt like no matter how much money they had, they always
needed more. He tells the reader about the downfall of an upper middle class family struggling to
maintain appearances through habitual overspending. The author displays the negative ... Show more

She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her, and she could not love them
(Lawrence 225). The quote creates an image of how cold the mother is towards her children. Hester
stops respecting and loving her husband, once he is unable to provide her with all her extravagant
taste. Hester blames their financial failure to her unlucky husband (Gordon 160). The situation makes
her grow bitter. Hester s priorities are obviously not her children but her greed, which has made her
unable to display any affection toward the children. The narrator tells the reader about the feelings of
the mother towards her children as she says, Only she herself knew that at the center of her heart IS a
hard little place that could not feel love, no, not for anybody (Bloom 323). Along with that the author
shows the situation that is arising everyday within their family. For example, the mother had a small
income, and a father had a small income, but not nearly enough for a social position, which they had
to keep up (Lawrence 221).
The author depicts a common demon the human race faces that is greed and society s need for more
possessions and money. This is projected throughout the story showing that Paul s family enjoyed
living in style yet always lived beyond their means. There is never enough money, causing a great deal
of anxiety in the house (Lawrence 221). The family believes that they are

What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act
In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the
colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had
to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and
playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants,
printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was
not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the
first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts
in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt
deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Per the
unwritten British Constitution, only representatives for whom British subjects voted could tax them .
Although the British Parliament imposed taxes and was the representative body of the colonists, the
colonists did not have actual or direct representation in it. Proponents of the Stamp Act in the British
Parliament argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Daughters of Liberty encouraged the locals to refuse buying British goods. They made their own

There is a plethora of exemplary leadership examples depicted in the movie entitled We Were Soldiers
Once. Mel Gibson was brilliant in his leading role as Lt. Colonel Hal Moore who led his brigade into
battle in Vietnam by being and doing exactly what he expected of his troops. He led by example. He

In so doing, they empower their subordinates and build their confidence.
This is vital to a thriving organization because empowerment says that the leader will stand behind
you and support you when the going gets tough. He was also very direct and honest. He gave them no
false hope by being straightforward with them about the possibility of not coming home alive.
However, he did promise that they would all come home, dead or alive. Leaders have to be authentic
and even at the worst possible outcome show integrity. This is how one creates a climate of trust and
creating a climate of trust should be a leader s first order of business. If there is mutual trust among the
leader and his constituents, they can carry out their assignment with diligence, commitment and
empowerment; when subordinates feel empowered they can move forward with creativity and
initiative.
Colonel Moore demonstrated his creativity in the scene where the cannon would not fire because it
was too hot and they had no water supply to cool it off. He showed that he was a leader who could
think on his feet and improvise. He stood up and starting pissing on the cannon to cool it off and
ordered his men to do the same. In war, and many times in business and personal

It did not take a genius to see that Minerva s hatred had true root within her heart, and her extensive
knowledge of the dictators corruption just drove this even more so.
The youngest sister, Maria Teresa is often portrayed in a light of innocence and this enforced by her
quiet nature. Throughout her narration she refers to death a lot, discussing it as a fear and having
recurring dreams of a coffin. This was evident to the effect her fathers death had on her. Her marriage
to Leandro and birth of daughter Jacqueline brings her out of her shell and like her elder sisters, she
joins the fight with same tenacity.
The second sister, Dedè was the only sister not a confident member of the revolutionary movement,
and the only one who survived Trujillo s reign. Her husband Jaimito was the reason for her lack of
participation and the father to her three children, Enrique, Rafael and David. It was Dedè caution that
saved her life but led her too much regret when conflict began to tear Dedè and her husband apart.
Whilst her suspicions about her sisters being killed were always very real, she never thought that her
worst fear would come true.
The final revolt saw The Butterflies with six official standing members; the Mirabal sisters and their
husbands. Their children and various members of other revolutionary groups had also been identified.

Persuasive Essay On Nike Advertising
People take in all sorts of advertisements from all around them every day, from weight loss solutions

ad requires a lot of hard work, in order to have a successful launch. Companies spend copious
amounts of money, as well as time, to get achieve their number one goal, making money. Nike, a very

The Pros And Cons Of College Sports
Sports can have an effect on many people, and that effect is basically allowing people to forget about
the problems that are going on in the world. Many of the problems are usually nationwide, or the
problems could be individual problems. Sports provide an opportunity for fans to come together and
share a common interest. Also, sports on the collegiate level presents an even bigger opportunity for
fans to come together because of the many diverse schools. Studies show that colleges and universities
are education driven, but sports can provide organizations with an opportunity to upgrade facilities, as
well as educational opportunities through the profits that are gained. Colleges and universities not only

If high school sports are about having fun, making friends, and representing your school, college
sports are about those things, but also about making money and obtaining national recognition for the
college, which may enable it to attract more applicants and more financial support from alumni and
friends. (Porto, 2014). The NCAA was formed when President Theodore Roosevelt called for safer
practices in college football due to the amount of injuries and deaths that were causing many schools
to question whether or not their school should continue to participate in sports. The NCAA was more
of a group that met in order to discuss the landscape of collegiate sports and to develop rules for the
participating sports.
Additionally, in 1921 the first ever NCAA National Championship was implemented and from there
addtional sports was added which lead to the need for a more formal governing body. Sports and
sporting events can have both positive and negative effects on the education system. Although, many
people usually enjoy a fun sporting event. The
NCAA s structure consists of governing bodies that oversee legislative bodies in that are made up of
volunteers of the participating schools. These committees manage

Luxury Brand Marketing
LUXURY BRAND MARKETING
What is LUXURY?
While the word luxury is used in daily lives to refer to certain lifestyle, the underlying construct s
definition is consumer and situation specific. If you earn less than 15000 a month, a pair of reebok
shoes would be a really big luxury item for you. On the other hand, if you are going to a party with
some big wigs a $100,000 car may not be a luxury. The word luxury originates from the Latin term
luxus signifying, soft or extravagant living, indulgence, sumptuousness or opulence
The meaning of luxury is extremely subjective and multidimensional in nature. It depends on
dimension such as high price, high quality, uniqueness, exclusivity etc.

A Generation Of Slackers By Catherine Rampell
As generations go by, our predecessors assume we are skipping out on important aspects of life just to
get a few extra minutes on our devices. In Catherine Rampell s A Generation of Slackers? Not So
Much , it is said the older generations believe Generation Y is coddled, disrespectful, narcissistic, and
impatient (Rampell 388). In all reality our generation is just doing what it has to in order to thrive in
the world we live in, where technology is one of the largest parts of our everyday lives. If the older
generations that criticize Generation Y had grown up in Generation Y they would realize the world we
live in requires the use of technology. The advancement of society with technology has shaped
Generation Y to be the people that they are, relying on technology; however, older generations believe
Generation Y is lazy. The world we live in today depends on technology to run. We have phones that
can practically do anything. That is where the older generations say we are lazy, it is not that we are
lazy, instead we are intuitive and resourceful. These words are viewed differently by Generation Y as
we are trying to simplify everything, allowing work to be done faster. For example, in A Generation of
Slackers? Not So Much it states, College students also spend fewer hours studying then their
counterparts in 1961... (Rampell 389). We no longer need to go to the library because we can access
the wealth of information on the internet, which is always at our fingertips.

What drug did the French doctor use to help curb his cravings for alcohol?
In order to curb his cravings for alcohol, the French doctor used a muscle relaxant named baclofen to
flip a switch and get rid of his cravings for alcohol. He initially tried lower doses which did not seem
to have an effect, but higher doses of the drug allowed the doctor to rid himself of the cravings for
alcohol, and eventually he was indifferent to alcohol after the drug. Later it was found that there were
more cases where this finding was supported.
2. The female journalist telling the story mentions that she was torn while attempting to write the
piece on the doctor and the medicine to deal with addiction. Why was she torn?
The journalist Amy, was torn as someone who was both a journalist, somebody who had to be
skeptical when taking into account the story of the French doctor, and as somebody who had
personally witnessed the effects of alcohol on a loved one in a past relationship, she wanted to believe
in a cure or a treatment that could resolve the addiction issue associated with alcohol use. She wanted
there to be a treatment for this wide spread issue that plagued lots of people, but she also had to be
skeptical as professional, because she was a journalist.

The Miller s The Crucible Self Reputation
Reputations Matter More Than You Think Self reputation is an important part of keeping pride and
moralities in a person s life, but self absorption can eventually develop from an outstanding care for
reputation. Self absorption is a negative trait found in all people sometimes and it can end up causing
things to go very wrong for yourself and others. Once someone is purely focused on keeping their
reputation and worrying too much of what others think of them, they are overwhelmed by the thought
of hiding all mistakes and always making themselves feel superior to others. Throughout Arthur Miller
s The Crucible self reputation is a major motivation felt by Abigail Williams and Reverend Parris,
which results in Abby accusing innocent people of witchcraft and Parris not helping his people in a
time of need; leaving the town in complete disorder and chaos. Abigail Williams is always making
sure the people of Salem believe her act of innocence and lying to keep her name white in the town.
She wants everyone to think she always tells the truth and is pure, so she will never get in trouble for
the dreadful acts she does. She secretly deceits others to keep them on her side and will make up any
story to get the blame off of her and on someone else. When Parris confronts Abigail about what the
girls did the in woods she says to him with assertion, Uncle, we did dance; let you tell them I

Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System
So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric
system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in
the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act
was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food
labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body weight
scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to the U.S., or
any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better interaction
with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international commerce, the United
States should convert to the metric system.
First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric system
is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo, milli, and
centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use. We shouldn t

The Effects Of Drought On Human Consumption
Throughout the past century many areas of the Western United States have faced agricultural
concerns, many environmental hazards, and economical stressors stemming from severe drought.
According to livescience.com, a drought can be described as a period of unusually dry weather that
persists long enough to cause environmental or economic problems. (Oskin, 2014) Droughts are
natural occurrences that have been happening for hundreds of years, and although their effects haven t
been documented that long, scientists have been able to identify their impacts by using various
research methods. Droughts are fairly complex issues that can have many impacts on humans as well
as be influenced by human interactions with the environment. Negative impacts are being felt
currently in the Western US and are not showing signs of slowing up. Drought is highly dependent on
human consumption of water be it for agricultural, industrial, or household uses. There are many
issues regarding human consumption of water, but one of the most notable is the fact that we have
very little fresh water available that can be accessed and used by humans. According to the USGS,
about 71% of the Earth s surface is water covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth s
water (Perlman, 2014). This is a pretty humbling statistic, and brings to light how easily water can
become scarce. With less than 3% of the Earth s water being readily available for consumption,
humans do not have much room for waste.

Italian Immigration Policy Analysis
Italy
Italy s basic information which consists of its capital Rome, and the name of Italy s president is Sergio

2013. In addition to these facts Italy has themes that connect together, and to its historical context.
Specifically, I will focus on 3 current events that have happened in Italy that pertain to immigration,
which stems from broader themes like Italy s political system, and nationalist nature. Through some
journal articles I was able to find information that pertains to my current events on Italy s immigration
policies, and its historical context. Therefore, these themes make up Italy s history and characteristics

immigration policy specifically in the fact that recently in the last decade, Italian immigration policies
have hardened, above all in the period 2008 2011, with the advent of a securitarian discourse.
Additionally, we learned that Italian policies have weakened social cohesion by reproducing and
reinforcing structural inequalities among immigrants. It was intriguing that, many civil society
organizations struggled against these policies. , which could show Italy s vulnerability. It is also
important to note that, Italian migration and citizenship policies tend to deny the fact that immigration
in Italy is now a structural phenomenon embedded in the labor market and Italian society , ultimately
affecting Italy s social structure. Likewise, through my research I found that one author of my research
articles, argues that this reluctance to accept the fact of immigration is exacerbated by Italy s fragile
national social cohesion, which has led to policy attempts to buttress social cohesion with respect to
immigrants relationship to Italian society. The Italian version of social cohesion is based on an implicit

Is The Language Used In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
Imagine living in a world where thinking was against the law and that only used the most simple form

mirror the modern world.
In the book 1984, the vocabulary is quickly decreasing in words, mirroring the use of text talk instead
of saying or typing full words. On page 46 in 1984 Syme states that newspeak, the language used in
Britannia, is the only language that shrinks every year. In the modern times phrases such as LOL,

Death is a scary thing because of the unknowns that surround death. Religion often help to answer all
the unknowns because we get an end point in our life just like Heidegger said. The end point and
beginning point of our world and life help us find closure. So, to answer the question what emotions
should we face when we are about to die, and should we be afraid of death? The emotions that
surround death will always change with the circumstance, but fear is a very normal and acceptable
emption to fear, especially without a belief in an afterlife. However, it is also acceptable to not fear
death. I don t think there is actually an acceptable emotion or answer to the question that I posed. By
looking at several of the characters in Game of Thrones I noticed that all of the characters went
through different emotions right before their death. I also noticed that none of the emotions that they
felt were incorrect or not justified. Depending on age, circumstance of death, and belief in
religion/afterlife you will have different feelings towards death, but all of these feelings are valid.

Al Seckel Visual Illusions
Al Seckel, a cognitive neuroscientist, explores the idea that a violation in our visual perception can
cause us to feel a sense of joy during a TedTalk presentation in Monterey, California on February 26,
2004. He elaborates on this idea by presenting the audience with various examples of visual illusions
concerning a violation in depth, colour, shape, size, and etc. The lecture is packed with various types
of visual illusions ranging from old to new, from artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci to Arthur Ganson
and he even included several examples of the visual illusions he has created. His hypothesis regarding
the delight in visual illusions is correct, as throughout the lecture, when presented with new visual
illusions the audience is entertained and joyful.
Textual Connections
Several connections can be drawn between the topics and types of visual illusions covered in the
textbook and the types of visual illusion shown by Al Seckel in the TedTalk lecture. One of the
connections I was able to draw from reading the chapter in the textbook regarding visual illusions and
watching the TedTalk lecture was the violation of size, accomplished by using a converging line. The
textbook shows the Ponzo Illusion, where the line closer to the converging line is perceived as being
much larger than the line farther away from the converging line (Cramer et al., 2017). Al Seckel shows
an image he has created using the Ponzo Illusion, called Pick on Someone Your Own Size (Seckel,
2007). In

John Donne s The Sun Rising and Auden s Funeral Blues use hyperbolic language to convey intense

their love is all they have and all they need, to vastly differing effects. In Funeral Blues Donne s

  • 10. How Did Emile Durkheim Characterize Suicide Introduction The primary source that will be discussed in this paper is Suicide written by Emile Durkheim. Durkheim was a French sociologist who was most famous in the 19th and 20th century for his work on the structure of society. During the time of his writings, he analyzed different social institutions and the roles in which they play in society. As a result, his work was associated with the theoretical framework of structural functionalism. The 19th century was most known for the Industrial Revolution. This is evident in Durkheim s writing in Suicide. Additionally, when these individuals feel as though they do not fit in, they are often lost. In the first year of university, students are experiencing so much more freedom than they are used to. This adds pressure and as a result, not all individuals in these situations know how to cope. In university, there are certain guidelines and expectations. This falls into altruistic suicide. You are told as a student that you have to reach a certain GPA, be involved in clubs and sports and have a job. This is over involvement and as a result students can become easily overwhelmed with the expectations of school. Lastly, Durkheim discusses anomic suicide, which can be applied to the confusion and lack of social direction as new students come into the new community of university. Additionally, students have left their family, which has acted as a community, and have been placed in an institution much how Durkheim was explaining. There is more likely to be moral confusion and with a lack of direction, students have the ability to make bad decisions. • 12. The Effect Of Plasma On The Membrane Performance Introduction When put under stress, at some point materials begin to decline and perform poorly. Cell membranes are no different. The specific design and structure of plasma membranes allows for the regular function of cells through transportation, facilitating reactions, and several other tasks carried out by the cell membrane and endomembrane system. When put under physical or chemical stress, however, the plasma membrane begins to falter and will eventually become unable to perform its tasks, which are necessary to cell life. Using beet root tissue, the relationship between membrane performance and temperature was tested. 3 samples of beet were prepared and placed in a 50% methanol solution and exposed to temperatures above, below, and at room temperature. The membrane s performance in repelling an unwanted solution in adverse conditions was measured by the amount of damaged membranes, which resulted in increases in released pigments. This lab s hypothesis is: varying temperature will have an inverse effect on the membrane performance. The membrane will perform more poorly under increased heat than increased cold, but both changes in temperature will negatively affect the performance of the membrane. This will be measured by amount of light reflected by the spectrophotometer, reflecting how much pigment was given off, and therefore how many membranes were compromised. The independent variable is the temperature the sample is put through, and the controlled variables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hester blames their financial failure to her unlucky husband (Gordon 160). The situation makes her grow bitter. Hester s priorities are obviously not her children but her greed, which has made her unable to display any affection toward the children. The narrator tells the reader about the feelings of the mother towards her children as she says, Only she herself knew that at the center of her heart IS a hard little place that could not feel love, no, not for anybody (Bloom 323). Along with that the author shows the situation that is arising everyday within their family. For example, the mother had a small income, and a father had a small income, but not nearly enough for a social position, which they had to keep up (Lawrence 221). The author depicts a common demon the human race faces that is greed and society s need for more possessions and money. • 14. What Are The Effects Of The Stamp Act In early spring of 1765, Prime Minister Grenville introduced the Stamp Act. As a direct tax on the colonists, the Stamp Act stipulated that anyone who used or purchased anything printed on paper had to buy a revenue stamp for it and these included items such as newspapers, legal documents, and playing cards. In a sense, the Stamp Act affected every level of society; landowners, merchants, printers, and sailors were all required to pay taxes for the printed papers they used. The Stamp Act was not welcomed with open arms in the colonists because it raised constitutional issues that initiated the first serious protests against British imperial policy. The colonists felt, compared to their counterparts in Britain, the British Parliament wasn t treating them fairly. The British colonists in America felt deprived of the rights they enjoyed as British subjects such as the right to representation. Only three countries in the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the Metric Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric system on things like food labels and in the military. • 29. Pep Rallies Essay Essay Question 1: Name two ways to get students interested in attending pep rallies. A pep rally is a great way to encourage school spirit. Most students enjoy them because they are able to skip class and won t have to worry about assignments. I appreciate pep rallies because I love to hear the sound of the crowd. When more people attend pep rallies, the crowd is extremely loud and proud! This makes it easier for us to pump up the crowd for game day! Two ways I can get students more interested in attending them include showing more school spirit around the school and letting them vote on the games we could play. One reason showing more school spirit could improve the attendance at a pep rally is because they are more influenced to go. By this, I mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, if there are less problems, most of us will not even have time to have negative attitudes. Essay Question 8: What is something the cheerleaders did last year that you felt was effective? One thing that I felt was most effective last year includes giving the locker rooms candy or sweet treats. The boys took our creative and inspiring posters that we had made for them and they kept them all year long. These posters influenced them to do their best at the game that night. • 30. The Effects Of Drought On Human Consumption Throughout the past century many areas of the Western United States have faced agricultural concerns, many environmental hazards, and economical stressors stemming from severe drought. According to livescience.com, a drought can be described as a period of unusually dry weather that persists long enough to cause environmental or economic problems. (Oskin, 2014) Droughts are natural occurrences that have been happening for hundreds of years, and although their effects haven t been documented that long, scientists have been able to identify their impacts by using various research methods. Droughts are fairly complex issues that can have many impacts on humans as well as be influenced by human interactions with the environment. Negative impacts are being felt currently in the Western US and are not showing signs of slowing up. Drought is highly dependent on human consumption of water be it for agricultural, industrial, or household uses. There are many issues regarding human consumption of water, but one of the most notable is the fact that we have very little fresh water available that can be accessed and used by humans. According to the USGS, about 71% of the Earth s surface is water covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5% of all Earth s water (Perlman, 2014). This is a pretty humbling statistic, and brings to light how easily water can become scarce. With less than 3% of the Earth s water being readily available for consumption, humans do not have much room for waste. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, I will focus on 3 current events that have happened in Italy that pertain to immigration, which stems from broader themes like Italy s political system, and nationalist nature. In addition, when researching on the themes of these articles I can focusing on Italy s immigration policy specifically in the fact that recently in the last decade, Italian immigration policies have hardened, above all in the period 2008 2011, with the advent of a securitarian discourse. Additionally, we learned that Italian policies have weakened social cohesion by reproducing and reinforcing structural inequalities among immigrants. It was intriguing that, many civil society organizations struggled against these policies. , which could show Italy s vulnerability. It is also important to note that, Italian migration and citizenship policies tend to deny the fact that immigration in Italy is now a structural phenomenon embedded in the labor market and Italian society , ultimately affecting Italy s social structure. Likewise, through my research I found that one author of my research articles, argues that this reluctance to accept the fact of immigration is exacerbated by Italy s fragile national social cohesion, which has led to policy attempts to buttress social cohesion with respect to immigrants relationship to Italian society. The Italian version of social cohesion is based on an implicit model of immigrant integration and a citizenship regime defined by jus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the nation named Britannia from 1984 the government, corporate, and technological control over the general populous closely mirror the modern world. In the book 1984, the vocabulary is quickly decreasing in words, mirroring the use of text talk instead of saying or typing full words. On page 46 in 1984 Syme states that newspeak, the language used in Britannia, is the only language that shrinks every year. In the modern times phrases such as LOL, LMAO, and BRB are becoming more common. In the third scene of the show someone is killed, and people are killed right up to season seven s finale. Almost everyone in Game of Thrones is faced with at least one near death experience, and all of the characters handle it in different ways. Being faced with death constantly leads to a couple of questions what emotions should we face when we are about to die, and should we be afraid of death? The emotions that surround death will always change with the circumstance, but fear is a very normal and acceptable emption to fear, especially without a belief in an afterlife. However, it is also acceptable to not fear death. I don t think there is actually an acceptable emotion or answer to the question that I posed. By looking at several of the characters in Game of Thrones I noticed that all of the characters went through different emotions right before their death. I also noticed that none of the emotions that they felt were incorrect or not justified. • 36. Al Seckel Visual Illusions Al Seckel, a cognitive neuroscientist, explores the idea that a violation in our visual perception can cause us to feel a sense of joy during a TedTalk presentation in Monterey, California on February 26, 2004. He elaborates on this idea by presenting the audience with various examples of visual illusions concerning a violation in depth, colour, shape, size, and etc. The lecture is packed with various types of visual illusions ranging from old to new, from artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci to Arthur Ganson and he even included several examples of the visual illusions he has created. His hypothesis regarding the delight in visual illusions is correct, as throughout the lecture, when presented with new visual illusions the audience is entertained and joyful. Textual Connections Several connections can be drawn between the topics and types of visual illusions covered in the textbook and the types of visual illusion shown by Al Seckel in the TedTalk lecture. One of the connections I was able to draw from reading the chapter in the textbook regarding visual illusions and watching the TedTalk lecture was the violation of size, accomplished by using a converging line. The textbook shows the Ponzo Illusion, where the line closer to the converging line is perceived as being much larger than the line farther away from the converging line (Cramer et al., 2017). Al Seckel shows an image he has created using the Ponzo Illusion, called Pick on Someone Your Own Size (Seckel, 2007). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Symbolic Tone John Donne s The Sun Rising and Auden s Funeral Blues use hyperbolic language to convey intense feelings towards the speakers beloved. Both believe all is lesser to their feelings, that even wise, celestial beings are less important than the existence of the one they love. They take on a dramatically different tone however, as the speaker of Funeral Blues laments the death of their loved, proclaiming I was wrong, while the lovers in The Sun Rising remain peacefully in their bed. Both speakers feel that their love is all they have and all they need, to vastly differing effects. In Funeral Blues Donne s persona is distraught, feeling that his love was his North, South, East, and West, conveying that now that he is gone the speaker feels he is without direction. This is evident in the titles of the works, the sun rising provoking thoughts of new beginnings and excitement. rising suggests an uplifting aura, though this is hampered by the speaker immediately calling the sun a busy old fool in opening. Combined these factors suggest youthful arrogance. The title Funeral Blues is even more indicative, setting the sombre tone of the work due to the death of a loved one. The structuring of the poems contributes also, with Funeral Blues having a regular AABB pattern, making lines feel uniform and serious. It suggests that while the speaker has lost so much he clings to structure and order. In comparison to this, The Sun Rising follows a less consistent rhyming scheme, with some lines rhyming with the one after, and some alternating. This creates a looser, less serious feel, reflecting the emotions of the poem. Lines are placed irregularly, some indenting further than others, giving the poem its playful feel as they run irregularly down the page.
