Workplace Discrimination And Its Effects On Social...
Workplace discrimination is still prevalent and could have disastrous effects on social cohesion and
political stability if it continues unchecked. While the most blatant forms of discrimination at work
may have faded, many remain a persistent and daily part of the workplace, or are taking on more
subtle forms. Every day, around the world, discrimination at work is an unfortunate reality for
hundreds of millions of people. Women are by far the largest discriminated group, with the pay gap
between the sexes still significant in most countries. Racial discrimination also persists, though older
theories of the purported superiority of one racial or ethnic group over another have been replaced by
allegations that foreign and incompatible cultures may have disruptive effects on the integrity of
national identities. New forms of discrimination based on disability, HIV/AIDS, age or sexual
orientation have now become cause for growing concern.
Inequalities within discriminated groups are widening. Affirmative action policies, for example,
helped create a new middle class of formerly discriminated persons in some countries. A few rise to
the top of the social ladder, while most remain among the low paid and socially excluded.
Discrimination often traps people in low paid, informal economy jobs. The discriminated are often
stuck in the worst jobs, and denied benefits, social protection, training, capital, land or credit. Women
are more likely than men to be engaged in these more

Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto
Islam and Democracy: A Reflection
In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are not
mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up this
theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader with
reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious extremism
and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United States talent
for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S. economy. To give the
reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the preamble of Pakistan s
Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that sovereignty over the entire
Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the Constitution goes on to lay out some
beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The document claims that the principles of
democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice... shall be fully observed... (and the citizens
of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights, including... social, economic, and political justice,
and freedom of thought, expression, belief; faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes
on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic State based on Islamic principles of social justice...
dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175 176). This passage presents the reader with the idea
that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also
preaches many of the values familiar to democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)...
created people of different views and perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to
offer her interpretation of the holy book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with
rights (democracy) (178). By using multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the
governing body of Pakistan and the Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority
on the subject. This leads the reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and

A New Set Of National Patient Safety Essay
Introduction
In health care settings across the country patient care is compromised by various preventable mistakes.
Health care workers (HCW) are continuously pushing the boundaries of time constraints. As these
demands are increased the possibility for poor patient outcomes also increase. Prevention is the first
line of defense and promotes healthy practices for HCW and patients. The Joint Commission (TJC)
collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case and establishes a national
quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care establishments with the goal to
provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each setting. In 2016 TJC released a new
set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are meant to bring awareness to the accredited
facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to be focused on. For instance, using two
identifiers when identifying a patient to prevent medical errors, and preforming hand hygiene to
reduce the risk of infections.
Accuracy of Patient Identification
The Joint Commission, NPSG.01.01.01 is the goal for improvement of accurately identifying a
patient. The use of two patient identifiers such as name, date of birth, or a type of security number that
will assure the right patient gets the right treatment, care, or service. Complications that arise from
misidentification of a patient may range from mild to Sentinel event. One could consider an

Relationships In John Steinbeck s How I Met Your Mother
In the famous television show How I Met Your Mother we see many different relationships. Ted,
Robin, Barney, Marshall, and Lily are best friends living in New York City experiencing true
adulthood and all that comes with it. Although a few of the friends date each other on and off,
Marshall and Lily are the exemplary relationship for the rest of the group. We get an insight into their
daily lives as a married couple and how their relationship began. Marshall and Lily met on their first

Analysis of London by William Blake Essay
Historic poetry is unique in the respect that it gives readers an insight into a certain historic time
period that textbooks cannot provide. Historic poetry not only gives a description of the time period
but it allows the readers to connect to the emotions of the poet and to a point experience what it would
have felt to live in that era. This is the case with William Blake s poem London. London not only
describes the horrid condition of England s lower class during the industrial revolution but it also
connects this description with a strong emotion response from the speaker. Blake s stylistic and
structure choices through out the poem paint a dark and morbid view of London but the emotion of the
poem remains divide. The words of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker s apparent age suggests that London is a poem of experience rather than innocence. This
is an important distinction because the experience of the speaker means that he is old enough to
envision an ideal world and to ask questions and make judgment towards the people in power. It is
from the format of the speaker s judgments and questions that the poem is able to evoke the two
emotions of sympathy and bitterness in the readers. The delivery of the speaker s comments about
London s inhabitants creates a separation between him and the events of the poem. The speaker makes
mention of people but it is always of what they have left behind or what he can hear from them. For
example the speaker says In the cry of every Man ( Blake 5) instead of saying he sees the men crying.
The wording of the statements implies that the speaker is not talking to the lower class of London but
rather using them as examples to address and chastise the upper class for ignoring the hardships that
continue to endure around them. However, because he is not directly interacting with the people who
need his help, it feels like he is doing this for his own gain and that he is just using the people to prove
a point about the running of the government. He could have chosen any negative aspect of life in
London but settled on the lower class because their suffering is the most noticeable. This evokes a
stronger sense of sympathy form the readers towards the

The Role Of Social Class In The 1880s
During the 1880s, access was a large problem throughout the world for social class and women. One
known sector that occurred around the 1880s was the Cinderella sector, the government created many
evening classes to allow students to gain education throughout the nights. This increased the number
of students that were in education as children would have worked all day to earn money for their
families. The government never made this a priority, but they were becoming more focused to create
elementary and secondary schools which we have today. This sector was more focused on further
education as it was aimed for students who had left education (Bailey,2002).
Lowe (2002) suggested that around the time of the 1870s, traditional universities were

Analysis Of Beethoven s 9th Symphony
For the second and final concert report, I listened to the performance of Beethoven s 9th symphony, as
played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Beethoven lived in Germany during the late 16th and
early 17th centuries, and was an influential figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic
eras in western music. The performance requires a large number of instruments, with woodwinds,
brass, percussion, strings, and even a choir during the 4th movement. The first movement of
Beethoven s 9th is quick, driving forward and at times giving the feeling of rushed urgency, while
maintaining a composed majesty beneath the surface. This is reflected in the original tempo marking
of allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso, meaning literally quickly but not too fast, a little majestic
. The movement begins with a the strings playing intervals over a quiet string tremolo, reminiscent of
an orchestra tuning themselves before a performance. This crescendos to a loud and bombastic
introduction of the first movement s main theme and the introduction of the brass section. The first
movement also makes heavy use of dynamic contrast, with large crescendos that swell in time with the
music and diminuendos that quickly reign in the impressive power of the full symphony orchestra.
The first movement also follows a traditional sonata form, with the main theme having variations
throughout the roughly 18 minutes of play time. Personally, I found the ending of the first movement

The Inspirational Nature of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
Oliver Twist is a popular book written by Charles Dickens among many others
such as David Copperfield and A Christmas Carol. Charles Dickens wrote many short
stories, plays, novels, fiction, and nonfiction stories during his lifetime. He wrote a
lot about the different types of people in the world, especially about the poor. This
type of writing showed in the book Oliver Twist. This book is told by a 3rd
omniscient narrator.
Oliver Twist is the main character in this book as the story is based around
his life. He is an orphan boy who is in need of a good home. He lives in a workhouse
at first and escapes right away to look for better living conditions. The story of
Oliver s life is a main part of the whole book. Mr. Brownlow and Fagin are just a
couple that are mentioned more than others throughout the book. Mr. Brownlow is
a kind old gentleman that ends up taking care of Oliver. He is very important in the
story because he is the character that figures out the story behind Oliver s life. The
Brownlow household is the first place that Oliver has actually liked to be and not
wanted to escape. Oliver felt safe there after he had escaped the group of thieves he
had run across that was led by Fagin. Fagin was a thieve, murderer, and robber. His
plan was to make a bad kid out of Oliver, but by the end of the book that wasn t
going to happen. Fagin was a big part of the book because once Oliver had escaped

Reality Is A Hard Trail
Reality is a hard trail that everyone in the world has to face. Reality comes with many aspects that are
constantly changing and that can be confusing or scary to many people. Coming to terms with reality
is difficult sometimes but, no one must shy from aspects of reality for that reason. If they were to shy
away and hide themselves from knowledge or experience then they will never be able to overcome
their conflictions with the issue. In order to grow, people have to properly come to understand and
face harsh realities. There are no safe spaces or trigger warnings in most places of the world. That s
the lesson that the incoming students of University of Chicago, whom may expect the inclusion of
trigger warning and safe spaces into the education system, need to understand. A safe space is an area
located anywhere, where anyone can escape from things they find harmful, such as controversial
topics or different ideals. They are also able to fully express themselves, without having to worry
about being uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe. A trigger warning is an essentially a warning that
the presented content through verbal or visual means, may be considered disturbing or upsetting to
many. Some students of Chicago University may think that their school is in need of these concepts in
order to protect themselves however the University has rejected the idea in a letter they sent, on the
basis that it could prove harmful to their academic freedom. The University of

A Comparison Of Harry Potter And The Sorcerer s Stone
The Harry Potter world appeals to many people everywhere but, it is lesser known that its stories
follow the same tropes as numerous other books and movies. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by
J.K. Rowling and The Odyssey by Homer both closely relate in the fact that they follow the Hero s
Journey, a pattern of narrative identified by Joseph Campbell. Both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s
Stone by J.K. Rowling and The Odyssey by Homer each follow the Hero s Journey tropes, including
their mentors, allies, and supreme ordeals.
As Odysseus from The Odyssey has his shipmates as his allies, Harry Potter from Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer s Stone has Hermoine Granger as his ally. A quote from the Fitzgerald translation of The
Odyssey states, So doom appeared to us, dark word of Zeus, our evil days. My men stood up and
made a fight of it backed on the ships, with lances kept on play... (55 58). This quote shows that even
when the dark times hit Odysseus shipmates, they still decided to stay with him and keep fighting. A
quote that proves Hermoine Granger is his ally states, Hermione had fought her way across to the
stand where Snape stood and was now racing along the row behind him. She didn t even stop to say
sorry as she knocked Professor Quirrell headfirst into the row in front. Reaching Snape, she crouched
down, pulled out her wand, and whispered a few, well chosen words. Bright blue flames shot from her
wand onto the hem of Snape s robes. In this quote, to many it seems like Professor Snape is cursing
Harry, so Hermoine set his robe on fire, making him lose focus on his spell. This shows that she is
able to go great lengths to help her friend, which perfectly describes a good ally. Although the allies
seem very different in each book, they overall serve the same purpose.
In both stories, the main character has either one, or multiple mentors. The mentor is someone who
serves as a teacher or counselor to the hero. They usually give them some type of advice or wisdom to
them too. A quote from The Odyssey states, Son of Laertes and the gods of old, Odysseus, master of
landways and seaways, dissemble to your son no longer now. The time has come: tell him how you

The Characteristics Of Generational Differences In The...

Generational Differences in the Classroom
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It
should be noted that there is not a one size fits all method when it comes to learning. The key to being
able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to
satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and
those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials.
This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ,
and what to provide to each group in order for their learning experience to be most rewarding.
The Silent Generation was born between the mid 1920 s to early 1940 s. The silent generation was
born in the middle of the Great Depression, and saw their parents struggle with finance issues
(Levonius, 2015). This generation learned to value the money that they had and tended to save more
than spend. This generation was raised in the midst of the World War, therefore this generation
preferred to keep their heads down and stay silent while working hard to achieve slow progress
(Levonius, 2015). In the classroom, members of this generation prefer to be in the background and not
the center of attention. They are a group that respects authority, does what is asked of them and does
not quit the job until complete. This generation grew up in a teacher centric educational system,
meaning that children should be seen and not heard. While they were in school if they spoke out of
turn there was usually some sort of punishment. The silent generation has a learning style that is based
on the classic classroom structure, and what that means is they prefer to sit in front of an instructor
and listen to the lecture. They like for learning to be taught in a linear format with feedback that is
clear (Levonius, 2015). It is common that this generation has decided to return to school simply for the
fact that they want to keep their minds sharp, after retirement. It is important for these adult students

Adrenal Gland Essay
Adrenal gland
In mammals, the adrenal glands (also known as suprarenal glands) are the triangular shaped endocrine
glands that sit on top of the kidneys. They are chiefly responsible for releasing hormones in
conjunction with stress through the synthesis of corticosteroids and catecholamines, including cortisol
and adrenaline (epinephrine), respectively.
Anatomy and function
Anatomically, the adrenal glands are located in the retroperitoneum situated atop the kidneys, one on
each side. They are surrounded by an adipose capsule and renal fascia. In humans, the adrenal glands
are found at the level of the 12th thoracic vertebra. Each adrenal gland is separated into two distinct
structures, the adrenal cortex and medulla, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The suprarenal veins may form anastomoses with the inferior phrenic veins.
The adrenal glands and the thyroid gland are the organs that have the greatest blood supply per gram
of tissue. Up to 60 arterioles may enter each adrenal gland.[4]
Terminology
The adrenal glands are named for their location relative to the kidneys. The term adrenal comes from
ad (Latin, near ) and renes (Latin, kidney ). Similarly, suprarenal is derived from supra (Latin, above )
and renes. Colloquially, they are referred to as kidney hats .
Adrenal cortex
Situated along the perimeter of the adrenal gland, the adrenal cortex mediates the stress response

The American Political System Essay
The American Political System The American political system is a federal system, which consists of
division of a national government and state governments. However, it was not always a federal
system, it was not based on the Constitution, but on the Articles of Confederation. This system divides
authority between sovereign national and state government. Under the Articles of the Confederation,
each state retained its ultimate governing authority. .[1] The power of government must be equal to its
responsibilities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state government was protected under the Articles of Confederation and had the ultimate
governing authority. 2 The government of the Articles was a union of states rather than also of people.
The result was a weak national government, since its strength depended entirely of the states
willingness to cooperate (p 61). If the states refused to pay the national government could not do
anything to get the money. The final result of non payment from the states was a weaker national
defense. The states wanted to retain their sovereignty and argued that the national government would
not be able serve the people as well as the union of states. Under the new governing system known as
federalism the state government would have the responsibilities of the chartering of local
governments, education, public safety, registration and voting, intrastate commerce.
In 1787 a new form of government was introduced at the Philadelphia convention, which changed the
power between national and state governments. 3 The Philadelphia convention thereby devised a
governing system that came to be known as federalism. Federalism is the division of sovereignty, or
ultimate governing authority between a national government and regional (that is, state) governments.
Each directly governs the people and derives it powers

In this book of 330 pages it describes how to decorate cake cookies .She shows all the material that

(skinny) is only to paint details onto the cake, there are too many brushes that you can use. The cake
slicers are used to divide a cake layer for torting (torting means splitting or cutting the layers of your
cake). Cutters are available to create accents for cakes; cutters cut gum paste and make it into 3D
accents. Spatula is a thin spatula about 10 or 12 diameters, the spatula used to easily lift the cake. Use
a large rolling pin to roll fondant, silicon pin works good for pastry and cookie.
This book is easy to understand because it shows pictures of the tools and explains what the tools are
for. What she says was interesting because she says that you need to have one brush for every part of

The Importance Of Special Needs In Special Education
I am currently teaching a practicum where my students (who are actually teachers getting their master
s degree in special education) are teaching students with special needs. Some of these teachers are
encountering students with autism for the first time and have felt some anxiety about this so they
asked for some ideas and strategies to help them in the classroom. These are some of the suggestions
that I have given them that I have used in the classroom successfully.
1. Use Task Analysis very specific, tasks in sequential order.
2. Always keep your language simple and concrete. Get your point across in as few words as possible.
Typically, it s far more effective to say Pens down, close your journal and line up to go outside than It
looks so nice outside. Let s do our science lesson now. As soon as you ve finished your writing, close
your books and line up at the door. We re going to study plants outdoors today .
3. Teach specific social rules/skills, such as turn taking and social distance.
4. Give fewer choices. If a child is asked to pick a color, say red, only give him two to three choices to
pick from. The more choices, the more confused an autistic child will become.
5. If you ask a question or give an instruction and are greeted with a blank stare, reword your
sentence. Asking a student what you just said helps clarify that you ve been understood.
6. Avoid using sarcasm. If a student accidentally knocks all your papers on the floor and you say
Great! you

Public Humiliation As A Deterrent Against Future Crimes
Public humiliation can be extremely effective and valuable for improvement in discipline and serves
as a deterrent against future crimes. Public shaming has been employed since the beginning of time
and is practiced worldwide. Throughout history, the advantage of the practice of public humiliation
was exploited by early civilization for the prime and propitious results. In Ancient Rome, public
humiliation was frequently utilized during crucifixion, when a person was killed for a sin. Crucifixion
was as defined by Dr. Dan Hayden, the most humiliating and degrading form of public death ever
devised. (Hayden, Hung On a Tree ). The method of crucifixion was not only shameful for the one
being punished but also was as an incentive for the public. It served as a reminder to avoid committing
a sin. In the Middle East, nations such as Iran and Afghanistan, authorities... amputated the hands of a
convicted thief in front of other prisoners... (Associated Press, Iran Cuts Off Man s Hand For Stealing
). The purpose of this form of public humiliation serves similar to the motives of the crucifixion.
These are just two of the countless historical records that assert the usage of public humiliation for
stabilization within the society. It was constantly used in the former times and is still used in the
modern era. The effectiveness of this form of discipline was and is still witnessed by numerous
individuals. The form of discipline portrayed by public humiliation persuades and serves as

Forrest Hall Building For University Essay
I agree with the students who want to change the name of the Forrest Hall Building on MTSU campus,
because I think our students have the responsibility as those with the power to change this name since
we don t want to our state university to represent something hateful. When MTSU built its ROTC

Laura Keene s The American Theater Business
Mary Frances Moss, better known as Laura Keene, is a British woman who took the American theatre
business by storm. Laura Keene is truly an inspiration. With her roots as an incredibly talented actress,
Laura Keene managed to branch out and accomplish many incredible feats that no one thought
possible for a woman in her time. She was the first woman in the United States to manage her own

Jane Moss and Thomas King were ecstatic to be welcoming their fourth child into the world, and their
other children, Edward, Hannah, and Thomas, were all equally excited to meet the newest edition to
their family. Jane Moss was revered as a well educated woman, and wanted to raise her children to be
just as knowledgeable as she. Inspired particularly by Mary Wollstonecraft s writings on the
controversial topic of women s education, Jane Moss strongly believed in educating her daughters just
as meticulously as her sons. Mary was described as being a sunny little girl with auburn hair and large,
honey brown eyes; she could always be found with her nose in a book, and oftentimes, she would

Why Is Social Exchange Theory Important
Ever had a friend that used to be so close to but suddenly never see anymore? How many people
would you say have left your life, even if they were extremely close to you at some point? It s a fact
that not all friendships last forever. One thing I ll always ask myself is, why is it that we stay
connected with some people but not with others? According to the Social Exchange theory, people
analyze the benefits and probable risks of social relationships. When the risks exceed the rewards, the
individual dismisses that relationship.
Social exchange theory studies the reciprocal action between two parties by looking at the costs and
benefits to each one of them. The central point of the theory is that it expects that both parties

Impact Of Thomas Jefferson And Geroge Washington On The...
Thomas Jefferson and Geroge Washington played a large role in the stability of the government.
George Washington was well respected among the public, which is why he was elected as the first
president of America after the U.S. had officially become independent from Britain. Moreover,
Thomas Jefferson was also a well respected leader and believed in economic equality for everyone.
Overall they both helped shape America for the better in the ways they led the country throughout
their presidency.
Washington was a man of character and rarely used force to settle issues. During the Whiskey
Rebellion, which was caused by the tax placed on whiskey, George Washington personally led his
troops to go stop the rebellion. This was the first realization of the need for a stronger central
government. Although many Americans did not like the strong central government style of leading
because it reminded them of their past rulership, it was needed for America to become stable.
Washington s response to the uproar helped build relations between people and the tax collectors,

foreign countries. Although this was disliked, it helped create America s manufacturing. This also
helped to stabilize the economy of America. Although Thomas Jefferson opposed the bank, he
opposed it because he thought it gave too much power to the national government. He also believed
that the constitution did not have the power to do this. This helped stabilize the government because it

Games Design As Narrative Architecture By Henry Jenkins
Narrative research
Introduction
Games and story, which on opposite sides of the interactivity. After reading a paper named Games
Design as Narrative Architecture by Henry Jenkins, I think controlling the balance of gameplay and
storytelling is important to game designers if they want to design a game with narrative. For this essay
I will be analysing two completely different examples, focusing on their narrative and gameplay in
order to explain this issue. In addition to this, I will also provide some games I have played and
combine the theories in this paper and other books to analyse their different ways to create immersive
narrative experience in the game.

Narrative, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storytelling is one of the most important forms of play indeed (Crawford, 2013), however not every
player would like to read story in games, they enjoy the process of achieving goal, too much narrative
even can be experienced as an unwelcome interruption (Jenkins, 2004). In order to avoid this
situation, game designer should using environmental storytelling in various ways to build a game
space which full of narrative. So players can enjoy the game itself and narrative in same time.
Here is an example, which is not positive but can demonstrate the importance of keeping balance of
game and narrative. Ensemble Star is a Japanese smartphone game, which I have played for one year.
Its narrative is completely attractive and impressed, however, its experience of gameplay is very
inconspicuous. Players only need to read stories, spend money to get cards and collect items to
strengthen their cards. Players can make some choices, but their choices cannot cause serious
consequences to the overall stories. So strictly speaking, I think it is not a game but a novel with
interactive function. Yet, its Chinese version add some game mechanics and blend into game story,
which makes this interactive novel more like a game. For example, every character have their back
stories. In Japanese version, players only can tap stories button to read. But in Chinese

School Uniforms Should Be Implemented Into The Nation
School uniforms are increasingly popular across the nation. In fact, it becomes a huge controversial
argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their schools. However, school
uniforms are not a negative thing; in fact, it could be positive in many ways by: eliminating cliques,
saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying from students less fortunate. Meanwhile, on
the other side of the argument, people believe that school uniforms will violate students freedom of
expression, create a financial burden on families, and uniforms will not alleviate problems. However,
with a solution that would benefit both parties, the public school systems in Oklahoma City district
would benefit greatly if this policy were adopted in all the schools; since, the district only has 74
public schools in uniforms, while 17 schools are not. First of all, these school uniforms should be
implemented into the rest of these 17 schools, because it would diminish economic and social barriers
between students. For instance, people come from different social classes such as: Upper, Middle and
Lower class. Many lower class families often cannot afford to purchase non essential items for their
children; especially for school, many struggle just to purchase the necessity items such as: food,
housing, transportation etc. According to the Oklahoma City Board of Education, if families are not

Understanding Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecology Model of...
Abstract A number of important sociological and psychological models track the individual across the
lifespan, exploring how different aspects of life ebb and flow in importance as an individual grows
older. Other models focus on how an individual interacts with the microcosm of their daily lives and
how this in turn affects their interaction with all of the broader cycles of their life. This paper explores
the process of grieving and healing experience by a 56 year old woman who has just lost her husband
of 30 years through the lens of Bronfenbrenner s social ecology model. This model allows for a multi
dimensional analysis of change across both time and psychosocial space. Healing after Loss Most
women will outlive their husbands or male partners. This fact arises from actuarial mathematics:
Women tend to live longer than men. The actuarial facts are exaggerated by the fact that women tend
to marry (or partner with) men who are older than they are, a trend that reflects cultural mores and
economic dictates. Thus the profile of grief described below must be acknowledged as a common one,
a fact that itself is relevant to the experience. Women know that they are likely to face a certain
number of years (even, perhaps, decades) and this foreknowledge helps mitigate the pain of the
experience, although of course it does not allow one to avoid the grief. Losses that we do not expect or
that run counter to our sense of how the world should work can be the hardest to

Wound Care Education
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to identify a patient health issue that would benefit from patient
education. During the clinical rotation at Jackson South the group identified a need in wound care
especially for patients with other underlying health issues such as diabetes. A large percentage of
patients had wounds that would require patients to properly care for them once discharged. The group
identified a lack of patient knowledge on how to care for these wounds and decided to develop a
patient education pamphlet to teach patients how to care for wounds while not in a hospital setting.
The group identified one particular patient that had insufficient knowledge in self care.

Given the proper investment of time and effort, this book will assist any believer in both repairing
their interpersonal relationships as well as assisting in the eternal redemption of others. Thompson
once convinced of the validity of this patter, both re thought and re taught everything he was doing in
the field of evangelism. The pattern consists of seven concentric circles that represent seven different
levels of relationships. Beginning with one s self moving progressively outward through family,
relatives, friends, neighbors and associates, acquaintances to person X (that unexpected kingdom
connection). The author then leads the reader through a seven step process that helps insure that each
relationship is whole and accessible to the Holy Spirits uninterrupted flow. That process begins with
getting right. This encompasses the clearing of past offenses, getting right with God, yourself and
others as mentioned in Matthew 5:23 24. The readers is then led to precede to survey existing
relationships. This helps to determine those previously overlooked opportunities to share Christ love.
Thirdly, we are to assume a posture of prayer, allowing God s Holy Spirit to work in and through us in
intercession and reconciliation. The fourth step in the process is the building of relational bridges into
the lives of those God has revealed to us. These bridges are reinforced by step five, the showing of

a. Identify at least two of the pioneers of the IQ testing movement and explain their contributions to
the field
Two of the pioneers of the IQ testing movement I chose were Alfred Binet (who collaborated with his
colleague Theodore Simon and Lewis Terman who also worked with Binet on the American version.
Alfred Binet is a French psychologist who is known to have developed the very first practical
intelligence test which became the basis for contemporary intelligence tests. He worked with a young
medical student who was also his research assistant to come up with what became simply as the Binet
Simon Scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis Terman, a Stanford University psychologist is another pioneer in the field of IQ Testing because
he was instrumental in bringing the Binet Simon Scale from France to the United States. He adapted
the test which became Stanford Binet Intelligence Test and was widely used that it has become the
standard intelligence testing in the US. This was when the concept of intelligence quotient (or IQ) was
first introduced. Terman also contributed to the development of the first reliable mass group
intelligence test during the World War 1 which was used by the U.S. Army Alpha and Beta programs.
b. What do you think are some potential pros and cons of the use of IQ testing in schools?
There are two opposing sides when it comes to the issue of IQ testing in schools. Many advocates
believe that IQ testing is the best way to identify and assess children s levels of aptitude and that it is
useful in determining who amongst the general school population need additional specialized or
differentiated instruction and extra services (GATE or even IEP) that may not be otherwise be
provided for in a regular classroom. It is also a tool which can be taken advantage of to help teachers
prepare, develop and design better strategies that meet the requirements of all types of learners in the
classroom. Should there be perceived and observed learning challenges and disabilities,

Disney Essay
Colin Wells Sherry Minkowski Government 12 26 March 2000 Disney s Influence on American
Culture How does one begin to describe a king? As generations change, society calls for new leaders
and kings, that will continue to push the boundaries. Steven Watts describes it as: Hollywood s leading
fantasy factory... (187) Disney is much more prominent in society, its impact now lives in every
household, as well as a place in everyone s soul. Behind it all is a thriving business that will out live
most humans now and in the future. Steven Watts breaks it down quite simply: Mickey Mouse and
Donald Duck embodied a collective desire to escape the pressures of modern life and return to
childhood. (127) The escape from reality, which Disney has provided ... Show more content on

Carl Hiaasen expresses the other side as well: Disney touches virtually every human being in America
for a profit.
That is rapidly becoming true as well in France, Spain, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, Australia,
China, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada. Disney will devour the world the same way it devoured this
country, starting first with the youth. Disney theme Wells 3 parks have drawn more than one billion
visitors, mostly kids. Snag the children and everyone else follows parents, politicians, even the press.
Especially the press. We re all suckers for a good cartoon.
(10 11) Not everyone on the planet wants G rated fare. When Disney targets adult tastes, it s careful to
leave Walt s name off the credits. The same folks who brought you 101 Dalmatians, a movie about
adorable puppies, also brought you Pulp Fiction, a movie featuring junkies, hit men, and bondage
freaks. The same folks who produce Home Improvement, a program about a wisecracking TV
handyman, are also responsible for Ellen, a program about a wisecracking lesbian. (11 12) If anything
is more irresistible than Jesus, it s Mickey. (12) Corporations have always had a dark side, just as
Disney does.
Balance is needed in life; there is a downside to everything. Nothing, not even Disney can be perfect.
Disney benefits society far more than it harms it. The joy a child gets from seeing Peter Pan flying
over Neverland can t be bought, it is already inside,

Strange Fruit Controversy
Following our nation s reconstruction, racist sentiments continued to occur and White on Black
violence was prevalent throughout society. The horrible act of lynching African Americans was
thoroughly widespread in the United States, particularly in the South. It is said that approximately
4,742 individuals were lynched between 1882 and 1968; of the victims, 3,445 or seventy three percent
were African American (Perloff 315). An image of two lynched young men inspired Abel Meeropol to
create the poem, Strange Fruit, later converted into a song by Billie Holiday. On August 7, 1930 in
Marion County, Indiana, three young African American men, Thomas Shipp, Abram Smith, and James
Cameron were charged with the murder of a white man and the rape ... Show more content on

The lyrics paint a picture that most would want to turn away from. He uses vivid imagery by referring
to the black bodies in the beginning of the song by stating that southern trees bear a strange fruit (1).
Fruit is usually sweet and appealing however, in this case, Meeropol uses the fruit as a metaphor to
describe the bodies hanging from the trees giving the lyrics tremendous significance. Also, in the first
stanza, Meeropol says blood on the leaves and blood on the root (2) to signify that the guilt of the
white people forever remains on the southern trees. This line is powerful because Abel Meeropol is
outwardly deploring the South for lynching. At this time, there had been no other African American
who had spoken out against racists and White on Black violence, making Strange Fruit such an
important touchstone. Meeropol shows the extent of racism by

Brief Summary Of Psycho s Unfiltrate The Army
The time for the Master is at hand and Alessandra has ordered that the shifters are to be exterminated
permanently. For us to infiltrate the castle we will need to overwhelm them with greater numbers. I am
not interested in taking any prisoners, kill them all. Psycho shouted to the crowd giving the best war
cry so that he could in an attempt raise the confidence level and work them up into an uncontrollable
rage. Nearly all the raids that Psycho had launched against the shifters have come as a total surprise
because Psycho s men were notorious for lying in wait in an ambush position by using the woods as
cover and waiting for people walking along established roads much as a crocodile would wait under
water for an animal to come and drink ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These swords were designed for slashing and cutting and not for thrusting, so the blades had to be
carefully sharpened while leaving the tip relatively dull. He thought that if they were confronted by
legitimate forces in raids they could create a wedge formation, with their biggest and strongest men at
the front of the wedge. They would rush this wedge through the enemy lines where they could engage
in hand to hand combat, which was their forte. But the wedge formation would only serve as a
distraction because the real plan is while the shifters are concentrating all their efforts to defend the
gate at the front of the fortress an advanced scouting party will be well under way at digging out the
dirt from underneath the castles back wall to weaken its foundation and pull it down with an entire
squad of swordsmen and archers that will flood into the courtyard from behind and catching the
shifters by surprise. Psycho s military tactics succeeded mainly because he ignored common
battlefield tactics, methods, and customs of the time such as ignoring the unspoken rule of warfare that
gave holy sites immunity from becoming a battle site. He had always thought that the battleground
always picked you and that you never get to choose where or when a battle might break out, even if it
means trampling on the ground of long ago dead

The Defence Of Gray V Thames Trains Limited, And The...
Tort Law Essay 2 Introduction The defence of illegality, otherwise referred to as ex turpi causa non
oritur actio, meaning no action can be founded upon a wicked act , has developed irregularly over the
last 20 years. The defence applies to all torts including negligence, and arises when a plaintiff engaged
in illegal activity makes a claim for compensation when injured in the course of that activity. The
precise basis for this doctrine is indeed difficult to discern , especially with recent cases from the
Supreme Court reaching seemingly inconsistent decisions. In Hounga v Allen , Lord Wilson identifies
several conceptualisations of the illegality defence, namely, the public conscience test, the reliance
test, the inextricable link test, the causation approach in Gray v Thames Trains Limited , and the
public policy approach. Soon after Hounga, a differently constituted Supreme Court in Les
Laboratoires Servier v Apotex adopted a vastly different reasoning in applying the doctrine, while
Jetivia v Bilta revisited the same issue not long after, with Lord Neuberger concluding that the correct
course of action was for the Supreme Court to address this topic again in front of seven or nine
Justices, with full argument on the illegality defence. I believe that Lord Wilson is necessarily right in
saying that the foundation for the illegality doctrine is difficult to ascertain, and will remain so until
Parliament or the Supreme Court settles the issue clearly. Public Conscience

Thursday s Child Analysis
During the Great Depression, when every ounce of life was bleak, withering, and hopeless,
maintaining fortitude through adversity differentiated living another day and meeting the ravenous
hands of death. Thursday s Child, a historical fiction novel written by Sonya Hartnett, explores the
struggles of an Australian family during the Great Depression. Harper Flute, the narrator of the novel,
reflects on the events of her early life with her family members. Da (Court) is the patriarch of the
Flute family and is the deplorable and cowardly father of Audrey, Harper s older sister, Devon, Harper
s older brother, Tin, Harper s younger brother, and Caffy, Harper s youngest brother. Mam (Thora),
Harper s mother, maintains her sense of bravery during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Devon receives a sum of money belonging to the recently deceased Grandda (Court s father),
Ma explains the disagreeable relationship between Court and his father. During World War I, Grandda
coerced Da to volunteer as a soldier, because he was jealous that his son was impeding on his chances
of ascending the corporate ladder. As Thora describes him, Grandda warned, Your children...will
forever hang their heads in shame (Hartnett 76 77). Da finally decides to enter the war, but returns
with alive. As a way of permanently preventing Da from jeopardizing Grandda s career success, he
implants the idea of moving into the country into Da s head. Similar to entering into the war, Da also
succumbs to Grandda s persuasion, and moves into the country with the rest of the Flute family. This
dysfunctional relationship between Da and his father is a likely cause for Da s cowardly nature.
Grandda s cold hearted nature and disinterest towards his son continuously haunts Da for the rest of
his life. For example, after Devon volunteers to work for the sinister Mr. Vandery Cable, he returns
him disappointed that he did not receive his week s wage. Da initially confronts Cable with authority
by stating, Where s your heart, Mr. Cable?...You owe my son a week s wages (59). However, Cable
quickly commandeers Court s confidence and consequently belittles Da. He wrung his hand in silence,
buckling his hat and limped the journey back home. Hartnett s diction is masterful in transforming Da
s courage and assertion into cowardliness and passivity. This interaction between the affluent pig
farmer, Cable, and the impoverished father, Da, is a parallel to Court s relationship with his father.
Similarly, Da is a man that ultimately has no sense of determination or self confidence in any regard.
However, years later, when Audrey returns home after working for

Alberta Oil Sands
The Canadian Alberta Oil Sands are the third largest oil reserves in the world and has an investment
value of over $27 billion. Over 100,000 employment opportunities are generated as a result of the oil
sands and it leads to a production rate of approximately 2.3 million barrels per day. One of the largest
controversies in Canadian politics is whether to oust the oil sands production or expand it. However
between the two articles, Why Canada needs to develop the oil sands by Konrad Yakabuski and the
article Stop oilsands expansion, Canadian and U.S. researchers say by CBC News, the debate is
whether to expand the reserves or remain the same. After analysing the two articles it is evident that
the author Konrad Yakabuski wrote his article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article, Stop oilsands expansion, Canadian and U.S. researchers say by CBC News is a convincing
model of how Canada should progress with the oil sands in the future due to the credibility of the
arguments. As stated in the article, The answer isn t a moratorium, but even more spending on
research to mitigate the industry s impacts . All in all, the article was convincing as the analysts show
maturity and a sense of realism to understand that the Canadian economy needs the oil sands so
expansion may be harmful, but a moratorium is out of the

The Death Of Robert F. Kennedy
The American Dream: success, happiness, riches, stability; all of these went out the window after the
stock market crash in 1929. As we ve all read about in history books and listened to the monotonous
lectures in high school, America was a place of promise and full of revolutionary new ideas. Men were
investing, women were working, and kids could play in the streets with a twinkle in their eye. Arthur
Miller was the prodigal son of hard working American immigrants who struggled through the
depression. Married three times, once to the famous Marilyn Monroe, Miller was a critic at heart;
chasing the American Dream in the 1940 s until the sole wore out of his shoes. Because America has
been bigger on promises than any other country, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Backing down or slowing up was never an option because the kids needed clothes, the refrigerator
needed a new belt, the old Chevrolet needed a new carburetor, or the life insurance was due. Drive and
ambition was never lacking in the heart of Willy Loman. Whether it was driving 4oo miles a day to
pitch a sale in a place where no one knew him, or put new plaster on the ceiling of his worn and
dilapidated home, Mr. Loman could support his family and keep them off the bottom. Well, until he
aged. Pride can build a man into a great hero or it can tear a man apart; as was the case for old Willy
Loman. He compares his sons to the Greek God s, Adonis in particular, when he talks about their
physical appearance. He also calls his eldest son, Biff, Hercules, as he is walking onto the football
field (Rosinger, Web). Biff was the promise child, the goose that laid the golden eggs. He had good
looks that aroused the girls in high school and football skills that attracted three different college
scouts. What Biff lacked was brains and dedication, and Willy knew it. Through a family friend
Bernard, Willy found out that Biff was on the verge of flunking his final math class and losing all
scholarship offers and any chance of a successful future. Here comes the pride though that let it go.
The end of the year came and Biff failed his senior year, and that is when a lot more things ended
between Biff and Willy. After failing, Biff races to Boston to beg his dad,

  • 2. Workplace Discrimination And Its Effects On Social... Workplace discrimination is still prevalent and could have disastrous effects on social cohesion and political stability if it continues unchecked. While the most blatant forms of discrimination at work may have faded, many remain a persistent and daily part of the workplace, or are taking on more subtle forms. Every day, around the world, discrimination at work is an unfortunate reality for hundreds of millions of people. Women are by far the largest discriminated group, with the pay gap between the sexes still significant in most countries. Racial discrimination also persists, though older theories of the purported superiority of one racial or ethnic group over another have been replaced by allegations that foreign and incompatible cultures may have disruptive effects on the integrity of national identities. New forms of discrimination based on disability, HIV/AIDS, age or sexual orientation have now become cause for growing concern. Inequalities within discriminated groups are widening. Affirmative action policies, for example, helped create a new middle class of formerly discriminated persons in some countries. A few rise to the top of the social ladder, while most remain among the low paid and socially excluded. Discrimination often traps people in low paid, informal economy jobs. The discriminated are often stuck in the worst jobs, and denied benefits, social protection, training, capital, land or credit. Women are more likely than men to be engaged in these more ... • 3. Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto Islam and Democracy: A Reflection In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are not mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up this theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader with reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious extremism and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United States talent for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S. economy. To give the reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the preamble of Pakistan s Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the Constitution goes on to lay out some beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The document claims that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice... shall be fully observed... (and the citizens of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights, including... social, economic, and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief; faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic State based on Islamic principles of social justice... dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175 176). This passage presents the reader with the idea that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also preaches many of the values familiar to democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)... created people of different views and perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to offer her interpretation of the holy book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with rights (democracy) (178). By using multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the governing body of Pakistan and the Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority on the subject. This leads the reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A New Set Of National Patient Safety Essay Introduction In health care settings across the country patient care is compromised by various preventable mistakes. Health care workers (HCW) are continuously pushing the boundaries of time constraints. As these demands are increased the possibility for poor patient outcomes also increase. Prevention is the first line of defense and promotes healthy practices for HCW and patients. The Joint Commission (TJC) collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case and establishes a national quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care establishments with the goal to provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each setting. In 2016 TJC released a new set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are meant to bring awareness to the accredited facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to be focused on. For instance, using two identifiers when identifying a patient to prevent medical errors, and preforming hand hygiene to reduce the risk of infections. Accuracy of Patient Identification The Joint Commission, NPSG.01.01.01 is the goal for improvement of accurately identifying a patient. The use of two patient identifiers such as name, date of birth, or a type of security number that will assure the right patient gets the right treatment, care, or service. Sharpie Research Paper Sherley Belizaire Dr. Johnson General Chemistry II 5 December, 2017 The Chemistry Behind Ink Pens Do we not hate when we have to ask another other person for a writing utensil? • 7. Analysis of London by William Blake Essay Historic poetry is unique in the respect that it gives readers an insight into a certain historic time period that textbooks cannot provide. Historic poetry not only gives a description of the time period but it allows the readers to connect to the emotions of the poet and to a point experience what it would have felt to live in that era. This is the case with William Blake s poem London. London not only describes the horrid condition of England s lower class during the industrial revolution but it also connects this description with a strong emotion response from the speaker. Blake s stylistic and structure choices through out the poem paint a dark and morbid view of London but the emotion of the poem remains divide. The words of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker s apparent age suggests that London is a poem of experience rather than innocence. This is an important distinction because the experience of the speaker means that he is old enough to envision an ideal world and to ask questions and make judgment towards the people in power. It is from the format of the speaker s judgments and questions that the poem is able to evoke the two emotions of sympathy and bitterness in the readers. The delivery of the speaker s comments about London s inhabitants creates a separation between him and the events of the poem. The speaker makes mention of people but it is always of what they have left behind or what he can hear from them. For example the speaker says In the cry of every Man ( Blake 5) instead of saying he sees the men crying. The wording of the statements implies that the speaker is not talking to the lower class of London but rather using them as examples to address and chastise the upper class for ignoring the hardships that continue to endure around them. However, because he is not directly interacting with the people who need his help, it feels like he is doing this for his own gain and that he is just using the people to prove a point about the running of the government. He could have chosen any negative aspect of life in London but settled on the lower class because their suffering is the most noticeable. • 8. The Role Of Social Class In The 1880s During the 1880s, access was a large problem throughout the world for social class and women. One known sector that occurred around the 1880s was the Cinderella sector, the government created many evening classes to allow students to gain education throughout the nights. This increased the number of students that were in education as children would have worked all day to earn money for their families. The government never made this a priority, but they were becoming more focused to create elementary and secondary schools which we have today. This sector was more focused on further education as it was aimed for students who had left education (Bailey,2002). • 10. Analysis Of Beethoven s 9th Symphony For the second and final concert report, I listened to the performance of Beethoven s 9th symphony, as played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Beethoven lived in Germany during the late 16th and early 17th centuries, and was an influential figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in western music. The performance requires a large number of instruments, with woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings, and even a choir during the 4th movement. The first movement of Beethoven s 9th is quick, driving forward and at times giving the feeling of rushed urgency, while maintaining a composed majesty beneath the surface. This is reflected in the original tempo marking of allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso, meaning literally quickly but not too fast, a little majestic . The movement begins with a the strings playing intervals over a quiet string tremolo, reminiscent of an orchestra tuning themselves before a performance. This crescendos to a loud and bombastic introduction of the first movement s main theme and the introduction of the brass section. The first movement also makes heavy use of dynamic contrast, with large crescendos that swell in time with the music and diminuendos that quickly reign in the impressive power of the full symphony orchestra. The first movement also follows a traditional sonata form, with the main theme having variations throughout the roughly 18 minutes of play time. Personally, I found the ending of the first movement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oliver felt safe there after he had escaped the group of thieves he had run across that was led by Fagin. Fagin was a thieve, murderer, and robber. • 13. Reality Is A Hard Trail Reality is a hard trail that everyone in the world has to face. Reality comes with many aspects that are constantly changing and that can be confusing or scary to many people. Coming to terms with reality is difficult sometimes but, no one must shy from aspects of reality for that reason. If they were to shy away and hide themselves from knowledge or experience then they will never be able to overcome their conflictions with the issue. In order to grow, people have to properly come to understand and face harsh realities. There are no safe spaces or trigger warnings in most places of the world. That s the lesson that the incoming students of University of Chicago, whom may expect the inclusion of trigger warning and safe spaces into the education system, need to understand. A safe space is an area located anywhere, where anyone can escape from things they find harmful, such as controversial topics or different ideals. They are also able to fully express themselves, without having to worry about being uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe. A trigger warning is an essentially a warning that the presented content through verbal or visual means, may be considered disturbing or upsetting to many. • 14. A Comparison Of Harry Potter And The Sorcerer s Stone The Harry Potter world appeals to many people everywhere but, it is lesser known that its stories follow the same tropes as numerous other books and movies. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling and The Odyssey by Homer both closely relate in the fact that they follow the Hero s Journey, a pattern of narrative identified by Joseph Campbell. Both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K. Rowling and The Odyssey by Homer each follow the Hero s Journey tropes, including their mentors, allies, and supreme ordeals. As Odysseus from The Odyssey has his shipmates as his allies, Harry Potter from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone has Hermoine Granger as his ally. A quote from the Fitzgerald translation of The Odyssey states, So doom appeared to us, dark word of Zeus, our evil days. My men stood up and made a fight of it backed on the ships, with lances kept on play... (55 58). This quote shows that even when the dark times hit Odysseus shipmates, they still decided to stay with him and keep fighting. A quote that proves Hermoine Granger is his ally states, Hermione had fought her way across to the stand where Snape stood and was now racing along the row behind him. She didn t even stop to say sorry as she knocked Professor Quirrell headfirst into the row in front. Reaching Snape, she crouched down, pulled out her wand, and whispered a few, well chosen words. Bright blue flames shot from her wand onto the hem of Snape s robes. In this quote, to many it seems like Professor Snape is cursing Harry, so Hermoine set his robe on fire, making him lose focus on his spell. This shows that she is able to go great lengths to help her friend, which perfectly describes a good ally. Although the allies seem very different in each book, they overall serve the same purpose. In both stories, the main character has either one, or multiple mentors. The mentor is someone who serves as a teacher or counselor to the hero. They usually give them some type of advice or wisdom to them too. A quote from The Odyssey states, Son of Laertes and the gods of old, Odysseus, master of landways and seaways, dissemble to your son no longer now. The time has come: tell him how you ... The key to being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those four generations are: The Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ, and what to provide to each group in order for their learning experience to be most rewarding. The Silent Generation was born between the mid 1920 s to early 1940 s. The silent generation was born in the middle of the Great Depression, and saw their parents struggle with finance issues (Levonius, 2015). This generation learned to value the money that they had and tended to save more than spend. This generation was raised in the midst of the World War, therefore this generation preferred to keep their heads down and stay silent while working hard to achieve slow progress (Levonius, 2015). In the classroom, members of this generation prefer to be in the background and not the center of attention. They are a group that respects authority, does what is asked of them and does not quit the job until complete. This generation grew up in a teacher centric educational system, meaning that children should be seen and not heard. While they were in school if they spoke out of turn there was usually some sort of punishment. The silent generation has a learning style that is based on the classic classroom structure, and what that means is they prefer to sit in front of an instructor and listen to the lecture. They like for learning to be taught in a linear format with feedback that is clear (Levonius, 2015). It is common that this generation has decided to return to school simply for the fact that they want to keep their minds sharp, after retirement. It is important for these adult students to ... However, it was not always a federal system, it was not based on the Constitution, but on the Articles of Confederation. This system divides authority between sovereign national and state government. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The state government was protected under the Articles of Confederation and had the ultimate governing authority. 2 The government of the Articles was a union of states rather than also of people. The result was a weak national government, since its strength depended entirely of the states willingness to cooperate (p 61). If the states refused to pay the national government could not do anything to get the money. The final result of non payment from the states was a weaker national defense. The states wanted to retain their sovereignty and argued that the national government would not be able serve the people as well as the union of states. Under the new governing system known as federalism the state government would have the responsibilities of the chartering of local governments, education, public safety, registration and voting, intrastate commerce. In 1787 a new form of government was introduced at the Philadelphia convention, which changed the power between national and state governments. 3 The Philadelphia convention thereby devised a governing system that came to be known as federalism. Some of these teachers are encountering students with autism for the first time and have felt some anxiety about this so they asked for some ideas and strategies to help them in the classroom. These are some of the suggestions that I have given them that I have used in the classroom successfully. 1. Use Task Analysis very specific, tasks in sequential order. 2. Always keep your language simple and concrete. Get your point across in as few words as possible. Typically, it s far more effective to say Pens down, close your journal and line up to go outside than It looks so nice outside. Let s do our science lesson now. As soon as you ve finished your writing, close your books and line up at the door. We re going to study plants outdoors today . 3. Teach specific social rules/skills, such as turn taking and social distance. 4. Give fewer choices. If a child is asked to pick a color, say red, only give him two to three choices to pick from. The more choices, the more confused an autistic child will become. 5. If you ask a question or give an instruction and are greeted with a blank stare, reword your sentence. Asking a student what you just said helps clarify that you ve been understood. 6. Avoid using sarcasm. If a student accidentally knocks all your papers on the floor and you say Great! you ... Public Humiliation As A Deterrent Against Future Crimes Public humiliation can be extremely effective and valuable for improvement in discipline and serves as a deterrent against future crimes. Public shaming has been employed since the beginning of time and is practiced worldwide. Throughout history, the advantage of the practice of public humiliation was exploited by early civilization for the prime and propitious results. In Ancient Rome, public humiliation was frequently utilized during crucifixion, when a person was killed for a sin. Crucifixion was as defined by Dr. Dan Hayden, the most humiliating and degrading form of public death ever devised. (Hayden, Hung On a Tree ). In fact, it becomes a huge controversial argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their schools. However, school uniforms are not a negative thing; in fact, it could be positive in many ways by: eliminating cliques, saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying from students less fortunate. Meanwhile, on the other side of the argument, people believe that school uniforms will violate students freedom of expression, create a financial burden on families, and uniforms will not alleviate problems. However, with a solution that would benefit both parties, the public school systems in Oklahoma City district would benefit greatly if this policy were adopted in all the schools; since, the district only has 74 public schools in uniforms, while 17 schools are not. • 38. Understanding Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecology Model of... Abstract A number of important sociological and psychological models track the individual across the lifespan, exploring how different aspects of life ebb and flow in importance as an individual grows older. Other models focus on how an individual interacts with the microcosm of their daily lives and how this in turn affects their interaction with all of the broader cycles of their life. This paper explores the process of grieving and healing experience by a 56 year old woman who has just lost her husband of 30 years through the lens of Bronfenbrenner s social ecology model. This model allows for a multi dimensional analysis of change across both time and psychosocial space. Healing after Loss Most women will outlive their husbands or male partners. This fact arises from actuarial mathematics: Women tend to live longer than men. The actuarial facts are exaggerated by the fact that women tend to marry (or partner with) men who are older than they are, a trend that reflects cultural mores and economic dictates. Thus the profile of grief described below must be acknowledged as a common one, a fact that itself is relevant to the experience. Women know that they are likely to face a certain number of years (even, perhaps, decades) and this foreknowledge helps mitigate the pain of the experience, although of course it does not allow one to avoid the grief. Losses that we do not expect or that run counter to our sense of how the world should work can be the hardest to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the clinical rotation at Jackson South the group identified a need in wound care especially for patients with other underlying health issues such as diabetes. Mobility is also a significant factor (Heller, 2014). If J.G. cannot get out of bed and walk a round, it is important for his daughter to turn him ever 2 hours to avoid pressure ulcers from forming. J.G. has a history of wound infection. If there is any presence of pus or bleeding, excessive pain, or odor, the wound may be infected. It is essential that J.G. and his daughter know what signs may indicate infection and that they call their health care provider if infection is suspected. If infection develops it can have a great impact on the wound healing process and can lead to hospitalization (Grothie amp; Ousey, 2014). This can lead to chronic wounds. Chronic wounds are slow to heal and take over 6 weeks. Chronic wounds might need a referral to a wound clinic. A wound clinic will help the patient develop a healing plan and monitor the size and progress of the wound. In part of patient education it is important to refer to additional resources outside of the hospital setting (Heller, 2014). The ultimate goal for J.G. and his daughter is ... They would rush this wedge through the enemy lines where they could engage in hand to hand combat, which was their forte. But the wedge formation would only serve as a distraction because the real plan is while the shifters are concentrating all their efforts to defend the gate at the front of the fortress an advanced scouting party will be well under way at digging out the dirt from underneath the castles back wall to weaken its foundation and pull it down with an entire squad of swordsmen and archers that will flood into the courtyard from behind and catching the shifters by surprise. • 46. The Defence Of Gray V Thames Trains Limited, And The... Tort Law Essay 2 Introduction The defence of illegality, otherwise referred to as ex turpi causa non oritur actio, meaning no action can be founded upon a wicked act , has developed irregularly over the last 20 years. The defence applies to all torts including negligence, and arises when a plaintiff engaged in illegal activity makes a claim for compensation when injured in the course of that activity. The precise basis for this doctrine is indeed difficult to discern , especially with recent cases from the Supreme Court reaching seemingly inconsistent decisions. In Hounga v Allen , Lord Wilson identifies several conceptualisations of the illegality defence, namely, the public conscience test, the reliance test, the inextricable link test, the causation approach in Gray v Thames Trains Limited , and the public policy approach. Soon after Hounga, a differently constituted Supreme Court in Les Laboratoires Servier v Apotex adopted a vastly different reasoning in applying the doctrine, while Jetivia v Bilta revisited the same issue not long after, with Lord Neuberger concluding that the correct course of action was for the Supreme Court to address this topic again in front of seven or nine Justices, with full argument on the illegality defence. I believe that Lord Wilson is necessarily right in saying that the foundation for the illegality doctrine is difficult to ascertain, and will remain so until Parliament or the Supreme Court settles the issue clearly. As Thora describes him, Grandda warned, Your children...will forever hang their heads in shame (Hartnett 76 77). Da finally decides to enter the war, but returns with alive. As a way of permanently preventing Da from jeopardizing Grandda s career success, he implants the idea of moving into the country into Da s head. Similar to entering into the war, Da also succumbs to Grandda s persuasion, and moves into the country with the rest of the Flute family. This dysfunctional relationship between Da and his father is a likely cause for Da s cowardly nature. Grandda s cold hearted nature and disinterest towards his son continuously haunts Da for the rest of his life. For example, after Devon volunteers to work for the sinister Mr. Vandery Cable, he returns him disappointed that he did not receive his week s wage. Da initially confronts Cable with authority by stating, Where s your heart, Mr. Cable?...You owe my son a week s wages (59). However, Cable quickly commandeers Court s confidence and consequently belittles Da. He wrung his hand in silence, buckling his hat and limped the journey back home. Hartnett s diction is masterful in transforming Da s courage and assertion into cowardliness and passivity. This interaction between the affluent pig farmer, Cable, and the impoverished father, Da, is a parallel to Court s relationship with his father. Similarly, Da is a man that ultimately has no sense of determination or self confidence in any regard. However, years later, when Audrey returns home after working for ...
