How Did Henry Contribute To 1776 Dbq
On July 4th, 1776 the thirteen colonies declared Independence from England. The Actions and Laws
that I will address in this DBQ led to the revolution of the the thirteen colonies. Two British laws that
caused this were the Intolerable Acts which punished the colonists for the outcome of Boston Tea
Party which was when the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped chests of tea into the
Boston Port, and the Stamp Act which was when the British placed a tax on all stamps. The action the
colonists took was that they stripped, tarred, and feathered British soldiers and they also started to
rebel against the taxes. In May of 1765, Patrick Henry addressed the issue of the Stamp Act to the
Virginia House of Burgesses. In Patrick Henry s speech he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is known as the Boston Tea Party, the Sons of Liberty did this in response to the British placing a
tax on tea. George Hughes wrote about disguising himself as an indian and boarding the ships. This is
what he said... It was now evening, and I immediately dressed myself in the costume of an Indian,
equipped with a small hatchet, which I and my associates denominated the tomahawk, with which,
and a club, after having painted my face and hands with coal dust in the shop of a blacksmith, I
repaired to Griffin s wharf, where the ships lay that contained the tea. When I first appeared in the
street after being thus disguised, I fell in with a many who were dressed, equipped and painted as I
was, and who fell in with me and marched in order to the place of our destination. We then were
ordered by our commander to open the hatches and take out all the chests of tea and throw them
overboard, and we immediately proceeded to execute his orders, first cutting and splitting the chests
with our tomahawks, so as thoroughly to expose them to the effects of the water. (Document

The Practice Of Trade Before Gatt Essay
2.1 Practice of trade before GATT
The history of GATT discussions and the present WTO are the birth right of commitments that the
countries have voluntarily agreed with each other. To appreciate the foundation of the present
blueprint of import protection across WTO member countries in addition to products and industries
within those countries, it is important to turn to the past. Western Europe after the World War I was
caught up with economic instability and disparity of the economic recovery following the World War
II was more evident in the context of international trade relations. Economic reconstruction after the
World War I was deficient in institutional machinery to make possible the reduction of trade barriers
that has arisen during the war and had become well established thereafter. The European countries had
faced political weaknesses and it was reflected in trade policies which was evident with the proposal
of equality of trade conditions in draft League of Nations was discarded in favour of a the provision
for the equitable treatment. The World Economic Conference held in 1927 found it indispensible to
call upon the governments to do away with maritime controls on trade, which incorporated, licensing
requirements, import quotas and foreign exchange controls. After over a decade of its formation, the
League of Nations had nevertheless had yet to sponsor any negotiations on liberalizing world trade
from high tariffs, and the commencement of the depression

Knowledge In The Giver
One of the most powerful abstract in the world is knowledge. It can change people s decisions and the
way they look at other people and how they view life. In the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, the
author makes it clear that knowledge has the power to change dreams, opinions, and fears.
Knowledge has the power to change people s dreams. For example, There s much more. There s all
that goes beyond all that is Elsewhere and all that goes back, and back, and back. I received all of
those, when I was selected. And here in this room, all alone, I re experience them again and again. It is
how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future (71). Jonas and The Giver know that Elsewhere is
a very important place. This is important because Jonas and the giver have a dream of making a plan
for Jonas to go to Elsewhere to release the memories to the community, which they eventually do. The
Giver also dreams of having his daughter back. You can understand then, that that s what I felt for ...

The Giver shows a video to Jonas and his opinion on his Father changes. He killed it! My father killed
it! Jonas said to himself, stunned at what he was realizing (188). Jonas and The Giver were talking
about what release really is and The Giver insisted on showing him a video of that morning s release.
Jonas saw his father kill a little baby and realizing that when people are released, it means that they
are killed. This is important because the only people that can understand death are Jonas and The
Giver. One day, The Giver showed Jonas a memory of love. He felt such love for Asher and for Fiona.
But they could not feel it back without the memories. And he could not give them those (135). After
receiving the memory and knowing what love is, Jonas realizes that he loves his two friends Asher and
Fiona. This is important because love is such a strong feeling and everyone in the community says that

Websites Advantages And Disadvantages
Today, most online websites have their own online assistance such as live chat room, email and FAQ
(frequently asked questions) that offer the customers an easy way to get in touch when they need help.
Help desk has been here for many years. Its history is very important because it has structured how
users handle their technical issues. Before the computer boom, users with technical problems would
have to get in contact with a call center to resolve their problems. With the constant growth of the
technical advancement, help desk is something that is very much needed. Websites have helped users
with online assistance because of the convenient it offers compared to pre websites. One of the major
things customers and users look for is convenience. Websites have helped make it like this because of
the many ways that they can receive contact. One of the ways to contact websites are through email.
Instead of calling a call center and having to be on hold for a long period, the user could just send
them an email regarding the question they have. Typically, emails are answered within a couple
business days. Each company has their own methods of answering emails, a popular one is auto
responder. An auto responder is a script that automatically returns a prewritten message to anyone who
submits e mail to a particular address (What is the purpose of an auto responder?). This not only
makes it easier for larger companies because of the time they save it also saves the time of the

How Intifada Affected the Peace Process in the Middle East...
The First Intifada changed the direction of the peace process and affected every Palestinians life. The
Intifada was a mass movement against the Israeli authority through boycotts, civil disobedience and
general strikes. Israel reacted to the Intifada by deploying 80,000 troops to stop the uprising by
breaking Palestinians bones [Footnote]. The Oslo Accords were signed by both Israel and Palestine to
end the Intifada and create a stable peace which gave Palestinians freedom and Israelis security. The
Palestinian Liberation Organisation was recognised by Israel and to represent the Palestinian people in
future summits. The accords failed to give either country what they desired and were never a final
solution to the Middle East Crisis. Due to the failure of the Oslo accords and subsequent agreements
the Palestinian people marched in protest of worsening conditions. The Second Intifada came soon
after the failure of the Camp David Summit suggesting the lack of a political solution results in
increased tension and outbursts of violence . The peace process was hugely aided by the Intifada as the
First Oslo Accord was agree to end the rebellion. The uprising was primarily a reaction to the killing
of four Palestinians but developed into a countrywide demonstration after more were killed at the
funerals by Israeli troops. They demanded an end to Israel s control over occupied territories . If the
Palestinians were granted this it would increase the likelihood of a

The Protestant Ethic And Spirit Of Capitalism
Brayan Munante Spring 2017
Prof. Delia TERM PAPER
Sociology 101
The Protestant Ethic and Spirit of Capitalism Max Weber (1864 1920) considered seriously about the
emerging dilemmas from the socio cultural and political state of affairs in Germany and criticised
purely the historical materialistic concept of explanations. Within his book The Protestant Ethic and
the Spirit of Capitalism , Weber instead depicts a more conceivable and pragmatic explanation that the
materialization of capitalism owed much to the specific patterns of religious motivational explanations
in Calvinism between various industrialists at that period. As these people (Calvinists) believed that
god s knowledge and astuteness was immeasurable to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Weber explains that the progress in administrative sphere can be directed only through a
guided reckoning, impartiality and competence. In the intellectual sphere, progress was thought to be
achieved by the aid of scientific methods, testing skills, experiential data collection because theories
that are imitative through scientific reasoning supersede to those that are previously attributed to
magical causes. However, this particular enlightenment ideology of motive and self realisation is
distinguishable with that of Marx s view of progress and is still qualified by Weber by the
rationalisation itself.
Compared to Marx perspective, the rationalisation and progress according to Weber involve the
positive features of effectiveness, manageability, uniformity, unavoidability and impartiality. These
positive aspects of rationalisation can result in enhanced capacity, the development of capacity and
power relations and thereby assists in attaining progress in each sphere depicted above. Unlike Marx,
rationalisation in economic perspective as witnessed in Western Capitalism was been considered by
Weber as the process of reasoning out unreasonable sentiments that hamper accrual and estimation of
profit, progress and sentiments like faith, thoughtfulness solidarity

The Culture Of The Philippines
The Culture of the Philippines The Republic of the Philippines was named to honor King Philip the
second of Spain in 1543. The purpose of this paper is to have a complete understanding of the
different type culture from every country which is beneficial in knowing how much we all share or
have in common as far as race, national origin, gender, class, or religion. (Axner) When military
leaders examine the culture of the country they are in, there are six major characteristics that they
must take into consideration: 1) one must comprehend the meaning of culture; 2) identify what the
five characteristics are that define a culture; 3) describing the common culture characteristic of a
region of the world; 4) the country s physical geography; 5) any previous involvements in military
conflicts; and 6). All six of these characteristics play an important role in determining what the norms
are and why the people in that specific region are the way they are. The focus of this paper will center
on the cultural understanding and awareness of the country known as the Philippines. When looking
for a definite answer as to the meaning of culture, there are a large number of definitions that follow it.
Culture is defined as a way of life of a group of people; the beliefs behaviors, values, and symbols that
they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and
imitation from one generation to the next. (University) These factors

The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
The unexamined life is not worth living. (Apology, 41e) Socrates held this statement to himself to a
point where he allowed the courts to take his life because they don t want him to continue his quest of
insights, questions and knowledge. The philosophy of Socrates as explained by Plato offers an
important concept of what it means to live the examined life and what makes a life either examined or
unexamined. The combination of Euthyphro, The Apology and the Republic help understand what
Socrates means when he says that the unexamined life is not worth living, proving it what he believed,
a valid statement. What Socrates means by an unexamined life, is we are just coasting through and not
making any decisions or asking any questions. What Socrates means by living the examined life, that
it s logical when people are striving to know themselves and to understand our lives if they have any
meaning or value to them. An examined life would be trying to understand your purpose of why you
are here and what you are presently thinking. By examining your life, you therefore are understanding
yourself and will not be subject to actions motivated by passion or instinct.Socrates uses examples
defending his case about the unexamined life. That is because I am so desirous of your wisdom, and I
concentrate my mind on it, so that no word of yours may fall to the ground. (Euthyphro, 18d) Socrates
could not see a point in living if you were unable to ask questions and challenge your way

Ester Lucero Essay
Cassie Essary Tim Petete Ethnic American Literature November 12, 2009 Angel s Psyche in Ester
Lucero One of the most fascinating aspects of any story is the formation of it scharacters. The way the
author chooses to describe them, give them personalities, is how the reader will see their lives. A
character s psyche and the way he thinks about events around him change the way a reader perceives
the story. Authors have an amazing chance to shape and bend a story to fit what they want it to be
through the characterization of the people they write about. If an author is incapable of making
characters believable and understandable, the story won t survive. In Isabel Allende s Ester Lucero ,
Angel is described in a way that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, Angel seems to have fixated on Ester as a way of getting past his ownproblems. Ester became
something that he desperately wanted, but could never allow himself to have. She was a child, and he
would not allow himself to touch her for that reason, and because his obsession with her is what keeps
him going. Ester became the focus of all his attention so he didn t have to deal with anything else in
his life. Another issue with Angel is the fact that he has a bullet in his groin. The women of the town
question his masculinity and begin to wonder if maybe the malaria or that bullet he has there in his
crotch rid him forever of a taste for women (Pearson 10). They don t realize that he has become
completely engrossed with Ester and therefore uninterested in the other women of the town. Since
Angel does have a bullet in his groin, and purposefully chose an unavailable girl to fixate on, it makes
the reader wonder if the bullet did cause some sort of dysfunction. Perhaps the reason that Angel
deliberately chose a girl that he could never have was because he knew women wouldn t want him if
they knew that he was impotent. Early on, when it is Angel s turn with a bride for the moment he
found no consolation ...he would have to search for that girl, if for no other reason than to determine
whether she was a mirage (Pearson 9). This passage

these words on their wedding day, the day that two become one, the day that two people begin a life

Americans is rampant. In society today divorces are as common as marriages themselves. Couples

the accusations, the past threats to move out. I was well aware of the reasons. Although there was
never any physical violence there was enough screaming and yelling to make up for it. Usually, my
mother started most of the arguments; my dad is a quite man. My mother could never let anything rest
she loved to argue. It didn t matter if it was money, family, jealousy, or the color of the clouds in the
sky that particular day; she just loved to bitch. Then one day my dad had enough and he left. Let me
go back up and say that my dad was not perfect by any means. He was a hard worker and a good
provider and he loved my mother and us. But he also allowed my mother to always be in control of the
household, the finances and the discipline. My mother resented him for this and when things went
wrong she wanted to blame him for his lack of input. Anyway, the day my dad moved out was a day of
mixed emotions, I felt like the largest weight in the world had been lifted off of my shoulders and at
the same time the sadness that I felt was just weighing me back down. I was so glad my dad was
finally going to take a stand and stop the arguing but I was so sad that he was going to have to leave to

Tourism And Its Effects On Tourism Essay
1. Introduction:
In today s world, tourism has become one of the key factors of many countries, which contributes
significantly not only to the countries economies, but it also helps resolving lots of problems such as
employment. According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), n.d., tourism consists of activities
of people travelling and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one year
for leisure, business, and other purposes. Nevertheless, in order to stay overseas for a period of time,
travelers have to use the currency of the country that they are staying by exchanging with their own
currency. Business Dictionary (n.d.) defines exchange rate among the currencies as the prices, which
is influenced by the interest rates, inflation rate, political stability, and so on. However, the currency
exchange rates among countries are changing every day. Consequently, tourism will be affected by the
fluctuations, and it is believed that they do have both negative and positive effects on tourism. In this
report, the researcher will investigate the following question, How do USD NZD exchange rate
fluctuations influence New Zealand s tourism patterns? in order to provide insights for the New
Zealand tourism industry as well as travelers.
Research questions:
What is the current situation of NZ s tourism?
What are the effects exchange rate fluctuations have on tourism?

Both Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Judith Guest s Ordinary People display the consistent theme of
abandonment by guardians. Both protagonists, the Creature and Conrad, experience rejection from
their parents and constantly try to search for love and attention in different aspects of society since
they unfortunately can not receive it from their parents. Given that no individual wants to associate
with the Creature, he becomes immorally and seeks revenge on the entire human race for not

him, ultimately leading him to lash out at her, listen, don t give me that, the only reason you care, the
only reason you give a fuck about it is because someone else knew about it first! You never wanted to
know anything I was doing or anything I wasnt doing (Guest: 110). It is evident that Conrad
constantly tries to spark conversations with his mother hoping that she will give him her undivided
attention, but it only results in him feeling as though he is a burden. The emotional detachment from
his mother forces him to distance himself from his entire family thinking that it would some how
make Beth happy. Instead of forcing himself to deal with his mom s distant attitude he exclaims, I
know why she never came out there, not once! I know! Hell she was going to goddamn Spain and
goddamn Portugal, why should she care if I was hung up by the goddamn balls, revealing that he
knows his mom has abandoned him as a son and has to deal with the fact that he is not the favorite son
in the family. He also comes to the realization that his mom is constantly trying to run away from the
responsibility of parenting and is still unable to show any kind of affection to her son who just tried to

Are They All From Down Under? When you think of animals in Australia, you think of koala bears
and kangaroos, but you do not think about the species that have migrated there. Most animals in
Australia are originally from there and do not live anywhere else in the world. Wombats, can toads,
and kangaroos are three great examples, native or not, of how these fascinating animals who live
down under survive. Wombats are native animals of Australia and over the years they have had to
adapt in many ways to survive in their environment. According to Source 1, wombats have four

Source 2 discusses, these toads were brought to Australia from Hawaii to try and lower the cane beetle
population. However, these toads had no effect on these creatures, but they do have some physical
attributes which are deadly to other native creatures of Australia. These toads are toxic, predators who
are native to Australia do not have any immunization to this poison (Source 2). The cane toads
poisonous abilities allow it to protect itself from predators it may have in Australia. These abilities
also allow the toads to capture their prey with more ease because their prey are not immune to their
poison. Source 2 states, cane toads kill native predators such as the quoll, a cat like marsupial . These
toads feed on native animals of Australia, whether they are eating the right animals is another debate.
Since these animals feed on native predators of Australia, there is not a shortage of them in their
habitat. The cane toad can easily find food in Australia, therefore they can easily stay healthy and
survive in Australia. Therefore, their reproduction rate is very high. According to Source 2, the cane
toad population has reached beyond two hundred million. Their high reproduction rate shows the cane
toads have not struggled to mate whilst living in the conditions of Australia. Therefore, since cane
toads have easily been able to adapt to life in Australia, they have been able to continuously
reproduce, generation after generation. Even though cane toads are not native to Australia, they have
not struggled to adapt to life

Kudler Fine Foods Network Review and Proposal
Introduction
Kudler Fine is evaluating their current network and creating a logical design document that will show

Reliability and Uptime
Network reliability is the ability of a network to maintain or restore an acceptable level of
performance during network failures by application various restoration techniques and prevention of
service outages from network failures by applying preventative techniques. (Network Survivability,
2001). Computing the reliability of a network is quite difficult; therefore estimation by means of
simulation is a popular choice for determining network reliability.
System Response Time
System response time is the interval between the instant a request is entered which requires a response
from a remote networked node and the instant that response is received. Most of the network nodes on
the system are Pentium II PC s with Windows 98 operating systems. There is one Pentium III
Windows NT server located at Del Mar and La Jolla. Del Mar and La Jolla employ the use of one print
server at each location, while the Encinitas location does not.
The 56K modem between sites severely impacts the system response time for Kudler s network nodes.
Information that is traveling across sites at that low of a speed means that response times are going to
be rather lengthy. The

What Are The Challenges Of A Senior Team Leader
Introduction:
The World Health Organization (WHO) is one of the United Nations (UN) agencies. WHO is working
in 150 countries with the mission to provide a healthier life (WHO 2016). The WHO s working
strategy is to work with governments and other local and international partners to achieve their mutual
health related goals (WHO 2016). To obtain these goals, strong leadership skills and understanding of
the local problems is critical for anyone in a decision making position. Mendenhall et al (2012)
deliberated that leaders who lead teams at an international level must have the capability to bring
change in the organization by not only creating strong linkages within their teams, but also involve
with internal and external stakeholders, including counterparts, other leaders, the people from the
various governments and organizations they work with. This requires cross cultural understanding and
the ability to work within and across different sectors. For example, not only health, but also
governance and education.
This paper examines the challenges (which may be) experienced by an official who is recently
appointed as a senior team leader in the WHO in Geneva, during the first thirty days of leaders
engagement. A leader needs to focus on four domains 1) creating

Companionship In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Humans Crave Companionship When one infant in a pair of prematurely born twins drew near death
soon after birth, the doctors tied everything to save her, but the only thing that could improve her
health was sharing the same crib with her sister. When they were placed in the same crib, the infant s
health immediately started to improve and she became healthy and strong(Townsend). This story of
twin sisters shows just how important companionship is for people to thrive in life. With her twin
there, the infant s health immensely improved. This is why companionship is important: People need it
to live long and happy lives. Without companions, humans will feel isolated, depressed, and even have
a 50% increase in chances of premature death(Harvard Women s Health Watch). John Steinbeck

The Medical Equipment Rental Industry
The market size of the medical equipment rental industry has seen a large increase over the past five
years. Starting in 2009, the market has seen an increase due to both a recession and the rising costs of
medical equipment (Turk). Because of both of these factors, medical facilities have been forced to cut
back and find new ways to save money. Through this industry, hospitals have begun to rent their
medical equipment rather that to buy it, saving the facilities money while not hurting patient care.
According to IBIS World, the medical equipment rental industry makes around a 1.3 billion dollar
profit each year as well as employing around twenty thousand employees (Turk). Furthermore, the
market is growing at 4.7 percent annually and is expected to grow even faster in future years (Turk).
While the medical equipment rental industry seems like it is targeted to one group of consumers the

The Microsoft Monopoly Issue Essay
The Microsoft Monopoly Issue
The best position on the Microsoft monopoly problem is one best for the general public, those who are
and will be using Intel PC products. This position is in opposition to Microsoft and to support the
State and the public. This will consequently give the public better choice, thereby keeping the price of
the product down and benefiting the general public. To understand why this position is the best choice
two simple questions must be answered. The first is, is Microsoft a monopoly? And the second is,
whether Microsoft is a monopoly or not, does that have a negative effect on the consumer? The
answer to the first question is found by examining Microsoft and the second question is found by

Essay On DECA
I was born May, 30th 1989 at Wadley Medical in Texarkana, Ar. I was born to Kym Crispino from
Queens, NY and William Lee of Hot Springs, Ar. My parents were young when they had me. We were
very poor at times, but they always made sure I had what I needed. I was an only child, but grew up
around plenty of cousins. I have lived in Texarkana my entire life. My parents split up when I was
twelve, and my mother and I moved out into the country on a dead end street with no children in the
area, I became very sheltered and a little socially awkward.
My education experience is nothing out of the norm. I only switched schools one time in the fifth

The requirements for the work release program in high school, were that you had to have a job that

nervous and wearing dress clothes that were three sizes too big, but I got the job as a bus boy. After
about two months, most of the senior bus staff had left, so management asked if I would become their

The s First Appearance On The Show Meyer Lansky
In his first appearance on the show Meyer Lansky gives a very earnst and well worded but fake
business proposal, forces someone to shake his hand (and thus acknowledge him) and muses on the
future importance of the petrol industry, all of which allow for a good character defining moment. His
main motivation and driving force through out the series is his own ambition to gain money, power
and respect. While it s not not hard to connect this ambition to a childhood of poverty and ethnic
oppression, it goes even deeper than that: in 1931 Lansky has achieved more than he could have
dreamed of as a child and yet still looks to take even more Atlantic City, the Commission, etc. etc.

Academic Tenure
Climbing the academic ladder to tenure is a long process that requires patience, persistence and
dedication. As tenures decline , it is important to think about ways to secure a job in the academia. I
believe that tenure in universities depends on teaching as well as research and publishing. Great
scientists such as Einstein had considerable amount of published papers even before he got the
academia job and PhD. On the other hand, I believe that a high quality teaching professor, who also
focuses on research deserves a tenure position. Landing in a tenure position is very difficult, but

Additionally adhering to the right publishing strategies and guidelines can facilitae the road to tenure

Actions for Wrongful Birth and Wrongful Conception
Actions for wrongful birth and wrongful conception Actions for wrongful birth and wrongful
conception frequently raise moral, ethical and philosophical issues. Legal judgments have often been
contradictory and on occasions have arrived at their conclusions without addressing all the pertinent
issues. Actions for wrongful conception or wrongful birth are variants of clinical liability and
negligence. The initiative to bring an action lies with the parents. This is different for actions for

The second is for the costs associated with raising the resultant child. Whilst the costs associated with
a child s upbringing are also foreseeable their award has posed a greater dilemma for the courts. A
child resulting from a pregnancy arising from a doctor s lack of care would appear to have a tortious
claim to such damages. The concept of compensating for a healthy child has led to moral and policy
concerns. In the Canadian courts some years ago this matter was aired in Doiron v Orr the judge
awarded damages for mental anguish related to the pregnancy but there would be no liability for the
cost of bringing up an unsought child. A range of views has developed from never awarding damages,
always doing so or doing so in a graded fashion by offsetting the benefits of parenthood with the
economic costs. In an action for unwanted pregnancy in Udale v Bloomsbury Area Health Authority
there was an award for pain and suffering along with loss of earnings following a negligently
performed operation. However an award for the economic costs of bringing up a child was rejected. In
his judgment Jupp J felt that the joy and love of a child should be set against economic loss. There was
a different view in Emeh v Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Area Health Authority where the
Court of Appeal awarded damages which included the cost of rearing a child. The court rejected the
policy objections cited in Udale.

Robin Hood Creed Quotes
Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also mainly
known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he leads a group
of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the rich and give the
stolen money to the poor and helpless. As the Normans believe that the Merry Men are all bandits,
they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code that is similar to the
Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that they must defend the
weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle. One knightly code that the
Merry Men present was defending the weak and helpless. When an order was given to hang certain
people by Prince John, the Merry Men went to each and every public execution to save each person
before they are hanged. The people that were to be hanged are obviously weak and helpless, but the
Merry Men could have cared less. They could have let them die without bothering and risking their

Analysis Of Self-Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay, titled Self Reliance, he centers around how individuals should avoid
conformity and false consistency. While still following their own beliefs and ideas, people should
follow their hearts and be true to themselves. He idolizes the idea of expressing yourself and not being
afraid to share your opinions, even if it may be incorrect. Additionally, Emerson strongly argues that
people should refuse to conform and be pressured into the ways of popular culture and their ideas,
such as giving back to charity. He expresses how it is okay to be misunderstood by others and to not
be afraid to change your mind about things. People should not be intimidated or scared to be

A significant point made was, that imitation is suicide meaning that when one imitates another, they
give up who they truly are. Giving up who you are is equivalent to abandoning your personality and
attempting to be someone else is unoriginal. Therefore, imitation is like killing yourself both inside
and out. Society is obsessed with the lives of celebrities and it has been found that American s are very
focused on celebrity culture. According to Howard Altman s article on Celebrity Culture, he includes a
statement claiming that, The constant barrage of celebrity has led more and more people to risk their
dignity, and even their lives in some cases, for the crack like high of their 15 minutes of fame, as artist
Andy Warhol famously put it (Altman). Humans are so fascinated with the attention that famous
celebrities receive in their daily lives. They are willing to set themselves up for failure or humiliation
just for fame. Society has conformed so much to popular culture they must follow exactly what
celebrities do. Altman also infers that the culture of celebrities brings negative effects on society. He
asserts that, ... children s mental health suffers the more they believe that happiness comes from
money, fame and beauty (Altman). This comes to show that humans should not conform to the ways
of popular culture, as it negatively impacts the way people think life should be like. Emerson also
feels that society takes a toll on the growth of individuality. It restrains one s self from being unique
and original. Not only does he urge his readers to avoid conformity throughout his essay, additionally,

Disturbances of Acid-Base Balance Essay
Disturbances of Acid Base Balance
If an acid base disturbance shifts the pH outside of the physiologic range, various control measures are
activated to resist the change in pH. Compensatory mechanisms try to preserve the normal 20:1 ratio
of bicarbonate to carbonic acid to keep the pH at normal range. The body works to maintain normal
ratios through a compensation mechanism using renal and respiratory methods (Crowley, 2010).
Metabolic Alkalosis
Metabolic alkalosis is seen by an increase in the concentration of plasma bicarbonate relative to the
concentration of carbonic acid, which shifts the pH to the alkaline side of the physiologic range (case
study pH 7.5). The main causes of metabolic alkalosis are loss of gastric juice or ... Show more

Excessive use of antacids (case study using more than the recommended dose) may also cause
metabolic alkalosis by neutralizing gastric acid, which has the same effect as loss from vomiting.
Ingesting sodium bicarbonate as an antacid to neutralize gastric acid has the same effect as any other
antacid. Any sodium bicarbonate ingested that exceeds the amount required to neutralize the gastric
acid will be absorbed, contributing further to metabolic alkalosis.
Chloride depletion also results from loss of GI secretions caused by severe vomiting (case study) or
diarrhea. Chloride and bicarbonate are the two main anions in the plasma, and their concentrations
vary inversely. When the plasma chloride falls, plasma bicarbonate rises to keep the total
concentration of anions in the extracellular fluids in check.
An excess secretion of adrenal corticosteroids that regulate salt and water metabolism
(mineralocorticoids) often causes metabolic alkalosis, and potassium depletion. A major site of action
of corticosteroids is the distal renal tubule, where the hormone promotes absorption of sodium in
exchange for potassium, which is secreted into the tubular filtrate. An excess of mineralocorticoids
increases absorption of sodium in

is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to an accident are

them on how to recognize and respond to dangerous icing conditions. (Krock, 2004, 4). As a step to

such as: Monitoring ice build up, and getting out of icing conditions if the buildup is unusually high,
on anti icing equipment sooner rather than later, avoid abrupt and excessive maneuvering that may

Difference Between Art And Contemporary Art
Christian Casas
Rafael Hernandez
LIT3400
The Everyday
A typical way of relating social/political issues to art assumes that art represents the thing one way or
another. But there can be a more interesting perspective, which is looking at the field of art as a place
of work. Basically look at what it does not what it shows. Amid all other forms of art, fine art has been
associated with post Fordist ideology. Post Fordism is a popular system of economically based on
production, consumption and has been in most industrialized countries since the late 20th century.
Contemporary art is not an out of this world discipline hidden away in some remote building. In fact,
it s the opposite because it positions itself in the thick of things. It can function as a brand name
without a brand feeding off the bits and pieces of social and political issues. Presently, contemporary
art has grown apart from important hubs, which gives the artist a wider range of production and
provides various opportunities for showcasing the work. In contrast, this has not always been the case.
Artist in novels about portraitures are depicted as servants due to the flow of cash. Art should be
functioning on its own without the need of an institutional backing in order to create separation
between the artist and their work as well as what the work can do .
Portraits appear as an object already existing in the world and about whose producer and the process
of production not much (most often nothing) needs

Common Core State Standards Act
Common Core State Standards Common Core State Standards is being heard throughout the education
world. Many cringe when the words are spoken and many fight to support what the words stand for.
Common Core was introduced in 2009 by state leaders. Common Core State Standards were
developed to prepare children for the business world or the reality after grade school. The Common
Core is a set of high quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy,
also known as ELA (About the Standards, n.d.). The goals for the standards outline what students
should know before leaving his or her current grade level. The standards were created to ensure that
all students graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college,
career, and life, regardless of where they live (About the Standards, n.d.). This is an ambitious goal,
but with much support can be accomplished. According to Common Core State Standards Initiative
(n.d.) The Common Core has been adopted by forty two states already and is accompanied by District
of Columbia and Department of Defense Education Activity. Common Core was developed to
improve the academics in society s schools. Academics in the past years have not been successful and
the United States has fallen behind international education. One root cause has been an uneven
patchwork of academic standards that vary from state to state and do not agree on what students
should know and be able to do at each

How Did Norse Mythology Change The World
The Norse used to believe that it was an honor to die in battle and that if you did so you would be
rewarded in the afterlife in Valhalla. The modern portrayal of Norse mythology however view death as
a heavy loss and try everything in their power to save lives. Changing the world was another concept
that the new and old Norse myths differ on. The old Norse believed they could not change fate but
simply postpone it and the modern Norse believe that they can change fate and take control of it. The
modern Norse try not to fight if they can; Odin from the Thor movie wanted peace but Odin from the
myths would have fought to the death. So through the themes of loss, resolve, and fate we can see that

Mexican American War Manifest Destiny
During the late 1840s the Mexican American War took place. The war started with the U.S annexation
of Republic of Texas and was the result of a dispute over where the Mexican American border should
be. President James K. Polk, who believed the United States had manifest destiny to spread across the
continent to the Pacific Ocean, ordered U.S. troops into an area between the Nueces River and the Rio
Grande, a region that was claimed by both Mexico and Texas, openly antagonizing Mexico. The
purpose of this paper is to provide a general overview and analysis of how the Mexican American War
contributed to Manifest Destiny. The region of Texas, which was originally a part of Mexico, declared
independence as a nation in the year 1836. Mexico was primarily a territory of Spain, and the
American settlers sought permission from Spain to develop land within the region of Texas. When
Mexico became independent from Spain, the arrangements were conducted with the government of
Mexico; however, this quickly caused a serious conflict, as the Americans in the region of Texas
began to outnumber the native Mexicans in the region. When the number of Mexican immigrants
increased, the situation escalated into military conflicts causing the famous Battle of Alamo, which the
U.S claimed victory. Two major figures involved in this conflict included Stephen F. Austin, a young
immigrant from Missouri, and Sam Houston, after whom major cities within present day Texas are

Essay on Total Environmental Health and Safety Management
Unit Three Question 2
Explain the difference between authority, responsibility, and accountability as they apply to OSH
program management. In your discussion, provide examples of how your current organization
implements these concepts. Is it effective? How can you tell? What recommendations do you have for
improvement?
Total Environmental Health and Safety Management
There is a tremendous amount of difference between authority, responsibility, and accountability as
they apply to the OSH program management. As read in the textbook by Manuele (2008 p. 86) and
under the section 3.1.3, Responsibility And Authority of the Z10, requires that management define the
roles, assign responsibilities and the authority, provide the necessary ... Show more content on

He also has the responsibility of informing the safety committee or representative of his possible
unsafe conditions. And he is held accountable in that management expects him to be active informing
management of any unsafe actions or conditions. My past and present employer ought to take heed of
what Manuele and his cohorts have to say. Most of my employers may spout off what they desire in
their safety program but don t have the least bit of concern to lead by example, much less show that
they are truly concerned about the safety program for their employees. They have shown blatant
disregard for their safety policies and practices to include their lack of flexing of authority to ensure
that a safety program is followed, for their lack of taking responsibility incorporating the safety
program into all aspects of the business and being accountable for their lack of actions. Needless to
say, the more I learn about how my past and present management is supposed to mold themselves, the
more focused I become to try to get them on the correct tangent. My current employer assumes no
responsibility of safety. He speaks of being safety conscience and this is pretty much the end of the
conversation. He, my present employer, uses intimidation and threatens myself and the other
employees about how much being out of work will cost us when we re at home without a paycheck if
we re

Comparing Randall Jarrell s Say Good-Bye To Big Daddy
No matter how big or great one is, he cannot escape death. In Randall Jarrell s 1963 writing of Say
Good bye to Big Daddy, the poet describes Big Daddy Lipscomb as a football lineman superstar. His
goliath size makes him impenetrable on the football field. Randall describes Big Daddy as the Rock of
Gibraltar ; however, it may also be Big Daddy s sportsmanship and compassion for others that has
made him a superstar. Although he was capable of pulling the largest of men to the ground, he was
always sure to help them back up. Big Daddy is conscious of the fact that his actions are viewed by
not only adults but also young impressionable children. He doesn t want those young minds to think of
him in a negative manner, and this is one reason he helps those he tackles back to their feet. Big
Daddy is viewed by his fans as invincible. As they watch him play from the comfort of their home,
they are mesmerized by his size and skill. Jarrell writes, The big black man in the television set whom
the viewers stared at sometimes, almost were . Big Daddy Lipscomb is a man that is perceived to be
flawless. His fans don t realize that he is subject to the same grim realities of life that they are. They
assume Big Daddy Lipscomb will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the very things that make him famous also cause him great pain. Big Daddy is ashamed of his
mammoth stature. Having abnormal qualities like Big Daddy s size can cause stress and have a
negative impact on one s self worth. He admits to being scared most of his life and being depressed to
the point of crying himself to sleep. Big Daddy Lipscomb experiences three failed marriages. His
personal struggles may have contributed not only to his failed marriages but also to his demise. He
turns to a life of heroin use as a way to escape the overwhelming realities of his daily life. The lethal
effect of heroin is what causes Big Daddy Lipscomb to stumble and eventually

The Actions and Laws that I will address in this DBQ led to the revolution of the the thirteen colonies. Two British laws that caused this were the Intolerable Acts which punished the colonists for the outcome of Boston Tea Party which was when the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped chests of tea into the Boston Port, and the Stamp Act which was when the British placed a tax on all stamps. The action the colonists took was that they stripped, tarred, and feathered British soldiers and they also started to rebel against the taxes. • 3. The Practice Of Trade Before Gatt Essay 2.1 Practice of trade before GATT The history of GATT discussions and the present WTO are the birth right of commitments that the countries have voluntarily agreed with each other. To appreciate the foundation of the present blueprint of import protection across WTO member countries in addition to products and industries within those countries, it is important to turn to the past. Western Europe after the World War I was caught up with economic instability and disparity of the economic recovery following the World War II was more evident in the context of international trade relations. Economic reconstruction after the World War I was deficient in institutional machinery to make possible the reduction of trade barriers that has arisen during the war and had become well established thereafter. The European countries had faced political weaknesses and it was reflected in trade policies which was evident with the proposal of equality of trade conditions in draft League of Nations was discarded in favour of a the provision for the equitable treatment. The World Economic Conference held in 1927 found it indispensible to call upon the governments to do away with maritime controls on trade, which incorporated, licensing requirements, import quotas and foreign exchange controls. In the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, the author makes it clear that knowledge has the power to change dreams, opinions, and fears. Knowledge has the power to change people s dreams. For example, There s much more. There s all that goes beyond all that is Elsewhere and all that goes back, and back, and back. I received all of those, when I was selected. And here in this room, all alone, I re experience them again and again. It is how wisdom comes. And how we shape our future (71). Jonas and The Giver know that Elsewhere is a very important place. Websites Advantages And Disadvantages Today, most online websites have their own online assistance such as live chat room, email and FAQ (frequently asked questions) that offer the customers an easy way to get in touch when they need help. Help desk has been here for many years. Its history is very important because it has structured how users handle their technical issues. Before the computer boom, users with technical problems would have to get in contact with a call center to resolve their problems. With the constant growth of the technical advancement, help desk is something that is very much needed. • 6. How Intifada Affected the Peace Process in the Middle East... The First Intifada changed the direction of the peace process and affected every Palestinians life. The Intifada was a mass movement against the Israeli authority through boycotts, civil disobedience and general strikes. Israel reacted to the Intifada by deploying 80,000 troops to stop the uprising by breaking Palestinians bones [Footnote]. The Oslo Accords were signed by both Israel and Palestine to end the Intifada and create a stable peace which gave Palestinians freedom and Israelis security. The Palestinian Liberation Organisation was recognised by Israel and to represent the Palestinian people in future summits. The accords failed to give either country what they desired and were never a final solution to the Middle East Crisis. Due to the failure of the Oslo accords and subsequent agreements the Palestinian people marched in protest of worsening conditions. The Second Intifada came soon after the failure of the Camp David Summit suggesting the lack of a political solution results in increased tension and outbursts of violence . The peace process was hugely aided by the Intifada as the First Oslo Accord was agree to end the rebellion. The uprising was primarily a reaction to the killing of four Palestinians but developed into a countrywide demonstration after more were killed at the funerals by Israeli troops. Within his book The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism , Weber instead depicts a more conceivable and pragmatic explanation that the materialization of capitalism owed much to the specific patterns of religious motivational explanations in Calvinism between various industrialists at that period. However, this particular enlightenment ideology of motive and self realisation is distinguishable with that of Marx s view of progress and is still qualified by Weber by the rationalisation itself. Compared to Marx perspective, the rationalisation and progress according to Weber involve the positive features of effectiveness, manageability, uniformity, unavoidability and impartiality. These positive aspects of rationalisation can result in enhanced capacity, the development of capacity and power relations and thereby assists in attaining progress in each sphere depicted above. (Axner) When military leaders examine the culture of the country they are in, there are six major characteristics that they must take into consideration: 1) one must comprehend the meaning of culture; 2) identify what the five characteristics are that define a culture; 3) describing the common culture characteristic of a region of the world; 4) the country s physical geography; 5) any previous involvements in military conflicts; and 6). All six of these characteristics play an important role in determining what the norms are and why the people in that specific region are the way they are. (Apology, 41e) Socrates held this statement to himself to a point where he allowed the courts to take his life because they don t want him to continue his quest of insights, questions and knowledge. The philosophy of Socrates as explained by Plato offers an important concept of what it means to live the examined life and what makes a life either examined or unexamined. The combination of Euthyphro, The Apology and the Republic help understand what Socrates means when he says that the unexamined life is not worth living, proving it what he believed, a valid statement. What Socrates means by an unexamined life, is we are just coasting through and not making any decisions or asking any questions. What Socrates means by living the examined life, that it s logical when people are striving to know themselves and to understand our lives if they have any meaning or value to them. An examined life would be trying to understand your purpose of why you are here and what you are presently thinking. By examining your life, you therefore are understanding yourself and will not be subject to actions motivated by passion or instinct.Socrates uses examples defending his case about the unexamined life. That is because I am so desirous of your wisdom, and I concentrate my mind on it, so that no word of yours may fall to the ground. Ester Lucero Essay Cassie Essary Tim Petete Ethnic American Literature November 12, 2009 Angel s Psyche in Ester Lucero One of the most fascinating aspects of any story is the formation of it scharacters. The way the author chooses to describe them, give them personalities, is how the reader will see their lives. A character s psyche and the way he thinks about events around him change the way a reader perceives the story. Authors have an amazing chance to shape and bend a story to fit what they want it to be through the characterization of the people they write about. Ester became the focus of all his attention so he didn t have to deal with anything else in his life. Another issue with Angel is the fact that he has a bullet in his groin. The women of the town question his masculinity and begin to wonder if maybe the malaria or that bullet he has there in his crotch rid him forever of a taste for women (Pearson 10). They don t realize that he has become completely engrossed with Ester and therefore uninterested in the other women of the town. Since Angel does have a bullet in his groin, and purposefully chose an unavailable girl to fixate on, it makes the reader wonder if the bullet did cause some sort of dysfunction. Perhaps the reason that Angel deliberately chose a girl that he could never have was because he knew women wouldn t want him if they knew that he was impotent. The concept of compensating for a healthy child has led to moral and policy concerns. In the Canadian courts some years ago this matter was aired in Doiron v Orr the judge awarded damages for mental anguish related to the pregnancy but there would be no liability for the cost of bringing up an unsought child. Disturbances of Acid-Base Balance Essay Disturbances of Acid Base Balance If an acid base disturbance shifts the pH outside of the physiologic range, various control measures are activated to resist the change in pH. Compensatory mechanisms try to preserve the normal 20:1 ratio of bicarbonate to carbonic acid to keep the pH at normal range. The body works to maintain normal ratios through a compensation mechanism using renal and respiratory methods (Crowley, 2010). Metabolic Alkalosis Metabolic alkalosis is seen by an increase in the concentration of plasma bicarbonate relative to the concentration of carbonic acid, which shifts the pH to the alkaline side of the physiologic range (case study pH 7.5). Excessive use of antacids (case study using more than the recommended dose) may also cause metabolic alkalosis by neutralizing gastric acid, which has the same effect as loss from vomiting. Ingesting sodium bicarbonate as an antacid to neutralize gastric acid has the same effect as any other antacid. Any sodium bicarbonate ingested that exceeds the amount required to neutralize the gastric acid will be absorbed, contributing further to metabolic alkalosis. Chloride depletion also results from loss of GI secretions caused by severe vomiting (case study) or diarrhea. Chloride and bicarbonate are the two main anions in the plasma, and their concentrations vary inversely. When the plasma chloride falls, plasma bicarbonate rises to keep the total concentration of anions in the extracellular fluids in check. An excess secretion of adrenal corticosteroids that regulate salt and water metabolism (mineralocorticoids) often causes metabolic alkalosis, and potassium depletion. Difference Between Art And Contemporary Art Christian Casas Rafael Hernandez LIT3400 The Everyday A typical way of relating social/political issues to art assumes that art represents the thing one way or another. But there can be a more interesting perspective, which is looking at the field of art as a place of work. Basically look at what it does not what it shows. Amid all other forms of art, fine art has been associated with post Fordist ideology. Post Fordism is a popular system of economically based on production, consumption and has been in most industrialized countries since the late 20th century. Contemporary art is not an out of this world discipline hidden away in some remote building. In fact, it s the opposite because it positions itself in the thick of things. It can function as a brand name without a brand feeding off the bits and pieces of social and political issues. Presently, contemporary art has grown apart from important hubs, which gives the artist a wider range of production and provides various opportunities for showcasing the work.
