Analyzing Vonnegut s Report On The Barnhouse Effect
The most common superpowers linked with meditation practice. The article Report on the Barnhouse
Effect, was based on the meditation, was published in 1950 by Vonnegut s as a first published work.
This report was the commentary on the nuclear race between the united states and the soviet union
during the cold war. The first atomic bomb was exploded by the soviets in august 1949, which help to
frame out the questions which was asked by the author on Barnhouse. Such as, Think we should have
dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima? Think every new piece of scientific information is a good
thing for humanity? . Answers for this questions are not understated. Vonnegut make us realized that,

The mention that, he calls an understandable tendency of thinking on Barnhouse as a god because of
his great power. This is only possible due to the high level of meditation. But the author explain that
the Barnhouse effect is the scientific understanding. Vonnegut s says that human have already
achieved the level of power like god have in the form of atomic bomb. If we have to think of
particular great power as remote from scientific ability, the we have ignore the horrific ability for
death. The only we know and realize that we all are equal responsible for saving our own

The Representative Democracy of Australia
Australian government takes the form of a representative democracy. Encompassing a political system
which allows eligible citizens to vote to elect candidates to govern the nation on their behalf. In
conjunction, there are numerous principles Australians consider democracy must embody, if the nation
is to be considered a democracy at all. At the heart of Australian democracy are the core defining
values of: freedom of election and being elected; freedom of assembly and political participation;
freedom of speech, expression and religious belief; the rule of law; and other basic human rights. Such
as those proposed by The Honourable Aharon Barak, President of the Supreme Court of Israel, who
having noted that all democracies share common characteristics, suggested these included public
safety and security, the democratic values of the State and its very existence.
The premise of terrorism has expedited the initiation of integral changes to the legal system, reducing
the rule of law and eroding established civil liberties and legal protections. The counter terrorism
measures introduced in Australia confer a power to compel submission to interrogation, a power to
detain and interrogate without charge, and a power of preventative detention. In doing so these laws
jeopardise the rule of law, expand executive power, diminish existing rights, endanger the separation
of powers, and undermine judicial procedures. Further the legislative definition of terrorism provides

Archduke Ferdinand Causes
It is taught in social studies classes around the world that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of
Austria Hungary was the direct cause of World War One, but there were actually many underlying
causes that led up to the start of the war. What many people fail to realize is that the many underlying
causes that were already prevalent were the real cause of the war. The underlying causes can be
broken down into four subcategories: militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. The
assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was one of the first effects evident of the war, it was the first
casualty of the war. Militarism is the first underlying cause; it s all about nations glorifying war and
their military. Militarism means that the army ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and makes them subject to their rule.
( World War One Causes ). Some countries took over other lands for natural resources/raw materials
that they needed to make industrial goods, just like Japan did in the twentieth century. Other countries
such as Germany conquered colonies because they wanted an empire. This caused conflict over
colonies, especially in Africa. ( Long term underlying causes of war 1). In the 19th century, Europeans
started to explore The Dark Continent known as Africa. Africa was known as The Dark Continent
because no one has explored it yet. European countries starting taking over African colonies in this
Scramble for Africa once their missionaries started to explore Africa, and come back to their countries
with reports of abundant natural resources such as gold, ivory, and salt. With many world powers
competing to get the most colonies they can, conflicts between nations surfaced. This was seen during
the Boer War, which was between the British and Dutch with the help of Germany fighting over South
Africa. This now sparked a new tension between the British and the Germans. The more colonies
owned by a nation, the more powerful the nation seemed. This is the reason the Austro Hungarian
empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina in 1908. The annexation greatly inflamed Serbian nationalism. (

Mate Selection Sociology
Family as a word is not easy to define, because it is so significant and universal to humanity. The
worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common elements.
The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or groups, though,
have family forms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad definition of family is when
certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption.
Human groups have many forms of mate selection, ways to trace descent, and methods to assign
authority and pass on property. Each group perceives its own forms of family as natural.
In the functionalist perspective, they stress that to survive a society, one must meet its basic needs.
They examine family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When ideas are right or wrong change, it leads to new norms that guide behavior in new directions.
Like said above, it was once an aforethought right for a wife who worked full time to also do all the
housework but it is no longer the case. Though there are apparent differences in how husbands and
wives spend their time, in what sociologists refer to it as gendered division of labor, where husbands
still talk the primary responsibility for earning the income and the wives take primary responsibility
for taking care of the house and children; still there is still a shift taking place in the traditional gender
division of labor: wives spend more time than they used to earn family income while husbands spend
more time than they used to on housework and child care so these trends are part of changing thoughts
of gender of what is deliberately the right for husbands and wives. In ushering these new norms and
behavior or what is deliberately appropriate maybe in the future greater marital equality can be

The Great Depression
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, is a famous quote once said during the Great Depression
by Franklin D. Roosevelt. After one world war, great financial fallout, and another world war to
follow, the twentieth century was already shaping out to be a handful. When the Great Depression was
coming to an end and the economy was trying to turn around, jobs started opening up and a new wave
of immigrants came into New York, the Puerto Ricans. For some the American dream was to come to
America and start a new life, but for others already here, it was about making it big in show business.
West Side Story , a twentieth century musical, was greatly influenced by the immigration during that
time.
Before West Side Story was written, there were some major events that occurred. For instance, in
1914 America entered WWI. Then in 1920, women were given the right to vote and women s suffrage
was a big focus of the twenties (Unstend 6). Soon after in October of 1929, the Great Depression
followed, causing massive economic downfall to the United States. Families during that time were
very poor, but millions still went to watch films at local theaters (Unstend 12). One technological
advance was the first television which began in 1936 (Unstend 30). After the Great Depression hit,
WWII came shortly after and America entered the war on December 7, 1941 after Japan attacked Pearl
Harbor (Unstend 18). In 1945, the U.S. possessed the atomic bomb helping to protect the U.S

Law Enforcement Officer
Why is anyone considered a hero? Well one person who pops right into my mind is our law
enforcement officers. In fact, they are constantly looking fear in the face right here at our home. As a
matter of fact, the typical hero everyone thinks of is our service men and women, but think about the
men and women who you call when there s a robbery, or a disturbance, or someone is slinging dope
on the street. You don t call the national guard, or the marines you dial 911.
First, let s look at what a police officer must go through on a daily basis. Sure, some cops just answer
domestic disturbances, whereas Phil, a drunk and disorderly man, is throwing the handset phone at his
wife and threatening her life, who does she call? Not the military, no she ... Show more content on

In return, the gang may now send goons to take out the officer sitting in his patrol car, or send them
after his family. Meanwhile, police officers are recommended to not carry photos in their wallets with
them for these specific purposes. The job of a police officer is never easy. In return, they should be
shown the respect they deserve.
My final point I d like to make is all of the situations the officer goes through on the job causes a lot of
stress. The officer may bring these horrible moods home and argue with his or her spouse or he or she
may take it out on the kid. With the parent never home this neglects the kid from his or her parent. The
quality time that child is required is stripped of him, when a parent straps on their utility belt and
badge. Being a police officers has its ups and downs, many people s lives can fall apart because of
their career.
In conclusion, I believe all of these traits consequently, make a police officer a hero. They fight crime,
deals with sometimes unbearable amounts of stress, and ranking bears more vigorous training. All of
these traits make men and women of law enforcement, America s domestic heroes. We should be
grateful 911 is available for calling because who else is going to help you when

Coming of Age in Mississippi and Segregation Essay
Coming of Age in Mississippi is an autobiography of the famous Anne Moody. Moody grew up in
mist of a Civil Rights Movement as a poor African American woman in rural Mississippi. Her story
comprises of her trials and tribulations from life in the South during the rise of the Civil Rights
movement. Life during this time embraced segregation, which made life for African Americans rough.
As an African American woman growing up during the Civil Rights movement, Moody has a unique
story on themes like work and racial consciousness present during this time. Moody s position as an
African American woman provides a unique insight into these themes through her story. As a little
girl, Moody would sit on the porch of her house watch her parents go ... Show more content on

I liked everything about the Johnson s house... It was everything ours wasn t (Moody 41). This was
the beginning of her racial consciousness between whites and blacks. However, fully understanding
what was going on around her in the world between white and blacks would be very difficult for a
young girl. Even though this is a very basic theme of segregation, this was the first experience Moody
had to it, and it was the beginning to her charge for equality. Through work, Moody would slowly start
to realize more things about segregation and how it impacts African Americans and her life. As Moody
grew up in the South, in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, she began to understand
segregation on a larger context. Her work experiences tell us a lot about racial segregation and
inequality. As work offered women new opportunities outside the house, it was different for African
American women. They would work in trades least affected by mechanism, like domestic services,
such as maids for white families. Moody and her mother both worked to help support the family and
worked domestic service jobs. After Linda Mae moves away, Moody had to work somewhere to help
support the family, so she worked for Mrs. Burke, even though she was very racist. Moody explains
the reason she stuck with it and worked for Mrs. Burke, I had to help secure that plate of beans
(Moody 116). Moody and African Americans a like, were working for more than just making

1. Explain what is meant by there was a time when you could work on your car .
The quote stated in article two by Ceruzzi (2005), there was a time when you could work on your car ,
is a metaphor explaining how this current era has dramatically changed due to advancements in
technologies, information, and media. Ceruzzi (2005) explained in his journal how software such as
Microsoft (PowerPoint), Adobe and AOL provides more convenience and assists us in our
presentation of information by just a few clicks of a wireless computer mouse. Ceruzzi (2005) states,
How far removed this is from the days when many of us used jacks, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other
tools to replace broken or worn parts on our cars, reinstalled everything, tested it, and then drove off!

Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study
The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation
compared to the surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for this
anomaly was due to the Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower Bakken
shale into the upper Three Forks. Current assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is a tight and
fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The Pronghorn is believed to only partially inhibit
primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor performance across Painted Woods. The
lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This thinning greatly reduces
the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected from
core (Figure 19), the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and lower Bakken
shales. The lack of permeability is supported by lithological analysis indicating a clay content of up to
50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods asset. The low permeability and high clay content shows
that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude primary migration of hydrocarbons from the
lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However, this only has a minimal effect on
the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole. Saturation trends in the Pronghorn and the
upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower Bakken
into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn
to the base indicating less hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil
saturation never reach 0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil
saturation then gradually increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone.
This trend is observed throughout all the wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of
the Pronghorn. Even though there is less volume of generated lower Bakken hydrocarbons, oil is still
able to be transmitted through the Pronghorn across Painted Woods. However, the quantities
transmitted are likely less compared to other

Arthur Dimmesdale As A Role Model
A role model, in a modern definition, is a person another individual looks up to. In The Scarlet Letter
this isn t the case. Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts the character of Arthur Dimmesdale as a sinful priest
who committed adultery, showing that even highly respected members of society are not perfect.
Dimmesdale is one of the respected mentors the townspeople look up to. The thing the townspeople
don t know is that he doesn t practice what he preaches. Dimmesdale committed adultery with Hester
Prynne, and if members of society found out, they would be deranged. He tried to tell them multiple
times, but he just couldn t say exactly what he had done because he was scared of letting them all
down. In one of Dimmesdale s sermons, he said, I am a viler companion of the vilest, the worst of the
sinners, an abomination (Hawthorne 131). Though he was trying to confess, he never actually told the
townspeople the real sin he had committed. This gave all the townspeople listening the thought that
they were even worse sinners than their respected minister, which is the opposite of what Dimmesdale
wanted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

resort to physical torture, trying to make up for the sin he had committed. As a result of this

should make trial of the physician s offered skill. Mr Dimmesdale gently repelled their entreaties

was nothing wrong with him that a doctor could cure. The real problem was nobody could help him

Anxiety And Anxiety Disorder
Fear and anxiety are feelings that are natural human responses. These feelings are necessary in
humans and animals for survival and to deal with dangerous and stressful events. They/such feelings
help individuals cope with adverse or unexpected situations. However, there are certain individuals
who will experience these feelings on a daily basis for long periods of time. The constant fear and
anxiety interferes with individual s daily lives and it is then when these feelings become a mental
health problem, identify as Anxiety Disorders (Steimer, 2002). One of these anxiety disorders is Panic
Disorder. Panic Disorder is characterized by individuals suffering from unpredicted and constant
attacks of fear which normally last between 10 to 20 minutes. These attacks are known as panic
attacks. Panic attacks are identified by fear of losing control even in situations where there is no real
danger. Some of the most frequent symptoms a person experience when having a panic attack are
chest pain, palpitations, sweating, feeling short of breath and the feelings of going crazy or having a
heart attack (National Institute of Mental Health, 2016). Furthermore, people who suffer from Panic
Disorder often develop other conditions such as depression, phobias and drug abuse. Many people
with Panic Disorder will avoid certain situations and environments because they fear they may suffer a
panic attack. Because of this, it is also very common for individuals with Panic Disorder to develop
agoraphobia (NIH, 2016). As a consequence of fearing a panic attack, people with this disorder often
engage in catastrophic and negative thinking. A common example is my heart is beating fast, I am
having a heart attack (Steimer, 2002). Therefore, Panic Disorder is a condition that have a negative
impact on people s family, social and working lives (Kessler et al., 2005). Panic Disorder is treatable,
and numerous treatments exist which help reducing the severity of the symptoms as well as decreasing
the number of panic attacks that occur in the disorder. These treatments are biological treatment,
which involve pharmacological drugs, psychotherapy or a combination of both (National Institute of
Health and Care Excellence, 2013). This essay

Birth Order And Identity
Identity relates to the overarching question of who are we? In order to understand this question, a
person must first look at the what they may value and what they want their identity to be. Children
come to define themselves in terms of how they think their parents see them. If their parents see them
as worthless, they will come to define themselves as worthless. People who perceive themselves as
likable may remember more positive qualities about themselves than negative statements. Others may
base everything off of what their sibling may do. Therefore the question lies does birth order
determine one s identity or does someone define their own identity. Birth order is a factor that allows a
person to unveil the mysteries of human behavior. The Role birth order plays has been significant
from ancient civilization to today. Many children born second in the family are physically inferior to
the firstborn child. Therefore in ancient civilizations, many of the firstborns survived and mortality
rates were low compared to children born after. In ancient civilizations, this could have been because
the firstborns were considered precious and therefore they were nourished and treated better than the
following children. The treating of the first child being precious can be seen in royal families as they
have passed down the thrown to the firstborn while the second and third children do not receive
anything. The firstborn child is the parents are in constant awe of the child and

Hood starts as a character that gets picked on and pressured by others who has trouble understanding

to him to realizing that life as a yeoman in the forest is the best, and that is the life he wants to live. In

Biological And Social Effects On Sexual Orientation
The Biological and Social Effects on Sexual Orientation
The origin and cause of human sexual orientation have been highly debated topics between sociologist
and biologists. Most scientists believe sexual orientation is biologically determined while sociologists
argue that it is socially constructed. There is a third belief that human sexual orientation is not solely
biologically determined or socially constructed. From this belief come theories that combine both
arguments, where human sexual orientation contains a biological component and a social component.
One of the conjoint theories is that humans are born with a propensity for certain sexual tendencies
which are determined biologically, and these tendencies are developed into a complex sexual identity
as an adult. This development of sexual tendencies into a sexual identity is influenced by society, and
therefore, sexual orientation depends on biological influences as well as society and social influences.
There is various evidence and arguments for biological determination and social construction of
sexual orientation, as well as a few conjoint theories of sexual orientation, but there are also criticisms
of each theory and the validity of these arguments will be explored.
Biological determinism of sexual orientation is also known as the evolutionary psychologist s view of
sexual orientation. Evolutionary psychologists believe that the human mind has developed according
to evolutionary methods, such as natural

The Definitions Of Scientific Management
Scientific Management
The term scientific management is the blend of two words i.e. scientific and management. Scientific
means efficient diagnostic and target approach while management means completing things through
others. In basic words scientific management implies utilization of standards and routines for science
in the field of administration. Scientific management is the craft of knowing best and least expensive
way . It is the craft of knowing precisely what could possibly be done whom it is to be done and what
is the best and least expensive method for doing it. Scientific routines and procedures are connected in
the field of management i.e., enrollment, choice, preparing, situation of laborers and techniques for
doing work in the best and least expensive way.
Definitions of Scientific Management
The main definitions of scientific management are as follows:
According to Fredrick Taylor (1911), The management of science means knowing exactly what you
want workers or employees to do and seeing that they do it in the best and the cheapest way.
As indicated by Harlow Person (1947) The management of science portrays that type of association
and methodology in purposive aggregate exertion which lays on standards or laws inferred by the
procedure of scientific analysis and investigation, rather than convention or on approaches decided
empirically and casually by the procedure of experimentation.

The Importance Of A Cultural Framework That Is Suitable...
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Budgets are very important part of business environment. They are considered to be essential key
drivers and evaluators for planning and control as well as managerial performance since 1920 (Reka et
al., 2014). This report aims to investigate how to promote a cultural framework that is suitable for the
modern dynamic business environment. Firstly, it will explain the concept of budgetary control, It will
then point out advantages and disadvantages of the current traditional system and how some
weaknesses can be addressed by implementing Beyond Budgeting (BB) using practical examples of
organisations that have been successful and what were the problems that they have encountered. It will

2.2 Benefits of Traditional Budgeting
Budgeting is a management control technique that can be used as an early warning system. Budgets
are of great help as a support performance management (Pietrzak, 2013). It can provide a detailed
information insight of the next fiscal year, which allows managers to set performance objectives much
more easily, make decisions and plan ahead. For example: When recession hit Europe in 2008, Davis
Service Group was able to assess effects and was able to build new and accurate theories for the
remainder of 2008. By recognizing and handling risks, Davis has been able to return profits, dividends
and cash flow for shareholders in a challenging economic environment.
Budgets generate a point of reference, making it easier for managers to accomplish activities with
stability. As long as managers can meet the set parameters, budgeting and the use of budget cost
centers provide them with the liberty to run their operations (Neely at al., 2003).
Budgets are a great communication tool used when obtaining information about company or e.g.
activities of its competitors. They also help in expressing ideas, goals and strategies of projects
between team members/employees and outside resources or potential investors, motivating employee
to drive forward.
2.3 Drawbacks of Traditional Budgeting
To make budgets is a very long and time consuming process, when organisations are trying to get

The Street By Ann Petry Essay
Ann Petry s novel The Street (1946) is a commentary on the social injustices that confronted the
protagonist Lutie Johnson. Lutie is a single African American mother who lives in segregated America
during the 1940 s. Throughout the novel, we see that during this time period Lutie is confronted by
racism, sexism, and classism on a daily basis while in her pursuit of the American Dream for herself
and her son Bub. Lutie is convinced that if she follows the example of Benjamin Franklin, by working
hard and saving wisely, she will be able to achieve the dream of being financially independent and
therefore be able to move out from the Street in which she is confined to. Benjamin Franklin is
embodied in the text through the character Junto. It is Junto that is supposed to get Lutie closer
towards her dream. However, Junto, through his secret manipulations tries to possess Lutie sexually,
ultimately leading Lutie towards her path of destruction and she ends up committing the murder of
Junto s henchman, Boots. Junto represents the writer Petry s deep disillusionment with this cultural
myth of the so called American dream. In Richard Wright s novel Native Son (1940), The protagonist
Bigger Thomas, is a 20 year old African American youth who grew up in segregated America during
the 1930s. Throughout this novel, we see Bigger also striving towards the pursuit of the American
Dream. Bigger risks everything to not compromise his pursuit towards success. Unfortunately, he ends

Good Night And Goodluck Analysis
Good Night. And, Good Luck by George Clooney and Grant Heslov follows CBS reporter Edward R.
Murrow and his producer Fred Friendly who resolve to take a stand against Senator Joseph McCarthy.
There was an air of fear and paranoia in the United States, in the 1950 s, because of Communism.
Those fears were manipulated by McCarthy, who wanted to gain more power by calling out people
who he claimed to have communist ties. His only piece of evidence involved a sealed envelope that no
one could see the contents of. Murrow and his reporting team decide to do a piece on those

As a journalist Murrow strongly believed that everyone should be aware of the affairs of the world in
rightful way. He found McCarthy to be a liar who was taking away peoples right and wanted to open
people s eyes, to show them that they have the right to speak out. Toward the end of his program,
Murrow gave a memorable speech: This is no time for men who oppose Senator McCarthy s methods
to keep silent, or for those who approve. We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot
escape responsibility for the result. There is no way for a citizen of a republic to abdicate his
responsibilities. As a nation we have come into our full inheritance at a tender age. We proclaim
ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, wherever it continues to exist in the world, but
we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home. After Murrow s show ended, McCarthy
political influence diminished. Unfortunately, the consequences of going after McCarthy caused

How Long Bike Research Paper
How long should I ride on the exercise bike?
How fast do you ride a bike, 20 km / h, it is right? How long a day it is great to ride a bike?
Hoping for a quick answer so I know I am right.
It is best if you vary your workout, both in intensity and duration. The speed cycling with is not
decisive, the important thing is how difficult / you experience intense workout. Here is an example
based on the riding four days a week: Monday: 60 minutes long bike workouts. Warm up for 5 10
minutes, gradually increasing pace and gradually increasing resistance. Then keep a steady paced pass
through. You will experience cycling as significantly challenging, but not worse than you can manage
to keep the same tempo (or almost the same pace) pass through. Strive to maintain a pace where you

target: stay where it (for all passports). Friday: If your exercise bike has a random program / random ,
set the example, and 45 60 minutes. It will be challenging but at the same time give you rest breaks.
Saturday or Sunday: Run a really long spell at 90 120 minutes in quiet but steady high pace. Listen to
music, watch TV or video, or listening to a Kassettbok the meantime, if you want a little
entertainment. NOTE! Can you not riding this much and so intensely here in the beginning so it s

How Drugs Destroy Athletic Ability
The human body can do a magnitude of activities, from running to climbing to lifting extremely heavy
objects that can all go away in the blink of an eye by using drugs. One of the key things to a healthy
and athletic human is cardiovascular ability, or the strength of the heart and how efficient it is
pumping blood throughout the body. Just by preforming around thirty minutes of exercise a day, can
improve the body s cardiovascular health drastically. Just by preforming that little bit of exercise a day
the body can reduce in fatty weight. The cholesterol levels drastically change too by increasing in
HDL (good cholesterol) and decreasing in LDL (bad and total cholesterol) . The body s blood pressure
also changes for the better because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a couple of weeks or so of drinking alcohol it begins to put strain on the heart mostly because of
weight gain. While drinking alcohol it blunts the nervous system down and the body loses most or
almost all of muscle control. Alcohol does not exactly destroy muscle but weight gain makes it harder
to exercise, so lack of exercise could be a reason for muscles to whiter away. A lot of athletes use meth
to decrease body fat. This can be done because of the drastic changes in the body s metabolism. The
drug is used because of the effects on the human brain. It releases stimulants in the brain to make it
seem like the body is having an adrenaline rush. The only plus side to meth is that it helps ADHD by
giving the opposite affect to people that have that condition. A normal person who does not have
ADHD makes them almost go insane. Meth is super addictive and a lot of times the person doing the
drug will commit extremely violent acts to acquire money to buy more of the mid priced drug. The
person can have extreme mood swings and become depressed or even suicidal. Panic attacks can acre
because the person doing the drug is expecting something and it doesn t happen. The body starts to
lose control of the muscles and the body. The person can start to have ticks close to Parkinson s or
turrets. Also permanent brain damage and nervous system damage can occur just by doing the drug

Essay about E.E. Cummings
Edward Estlin Cummings is a famous poet and novelist. A true man of the arts, he also enjoyed
playwrights, painting, and drawing. His lifetime lasting from 1894 1962 was vivaciously lived! He
spent a large portion of his life in his birth state, Massachusetts, although certain life events lead him
beyond the United States. Cummings served in the U.S. Army during World War I, and was a
volunteer in an ambulance unit as well. A great portion of his life was also dedicated to his Harvard
education and multiple romantic relationships. Despite these things that took up most of his time,
Cummings managed to find time for his passion, writing. E.E. Cummings unique style of writing is

Once his name received a wonderful reputation he was easily able to expand beyond novels to his true
desire, poetry, and become more successful as a poet. Cummings impressive education consists of a
Bachelor s and Master s degree from Harvard, in which he graduated near the top of his class. He
submitted many of his poems to the newspaper at Harvard, which sparked his interest towards a career
as a poet. When his first poem was published, the publisher left all the letters of E.E. Cummings name
lowercase. Cummings soon adopted this as his own personal trademark. The style of Cummings
writing was what made his poems so distinctive. No matter what the topic, he always incorporated a
lyrical flow to the poem. Cummings experimented with typography, slang, dialect, jazz rhymes, and
jagged lines (Anderson et al). By exploring the possibilities of poetry, Cummings was able to create
poems that have a beat that corresponds with the tone, mood, and theme of the poem. Aside from
Cummings busy life activities he was able to fit in an extremely demanding love life. He moved from
France back to America to pursue an affair with Elaine Thayer. Elaine was the wife of Cummings
good friend and mentor, Scofield Thayer; however, she became Cummings first wife. Their marriage
was short lived as she ended up leaving Cummings for yet another man to marry. Anne Barton was

Target was able to effectively use the money it borrowed from investors and creditor to create value
for the organization. This occurred because of a surge in economic activity from 2005 2007 (United
States Department of Labor, 2011). Why did the ROIC take a down turn? What was the cause?
According to the Wall Street Journal, Target Corp. s credit card portfolio hurt its performance in the
recession, as delinquencies and defaults soared. The economic recession that began in 2007 was the
main catalyst behind Targets decrease in ROIC. The company s ROIC decreased through much of the

How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable...
It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie
in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance
between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several
other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms
of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between
themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher,
and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential
increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally
socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and
Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern
for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the rising Swedish Democratic
Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as a correlation between influxes
in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti immigrant sentiment. Socialist
democracies in Scandinavia were brought about in correlation with the Nordic model of governance,
also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. A prevalent system of governance since
the 1980s, the

Comparing Maus I And Maus II
Maus I and Maus II: Intricate Frames of Identity and Experience
Maus is self referential a number of times throughout each volume, with a variety of purposes. The
narrative moves through several interpretive frameworks Vladek s perspective, and Artie s
perspective, both of his father and of his father s story and how he s choosing to tell it. Throughout
these various levels of interpretation, questions are posed in innumerable ways. Vladek s behavior
when he talks about (or even uses) his experiences, Artie s perspective of his father, and the symbolic
representation of the animals, are all expressions of identity that come through as the result of the
individual s frame of interpretation. The text and its subjects are self aware in a variety ... Show more

In the first volume, Artie ruminates on the subject of Jewish stereotypes and the ways in which his
father fits into them. In one panel, he says, In some ways he s just like the racist caricature of the
miserly old Jew (Maus I, Spiegelman 131). It s important to Artie to portray his father accurately, but
he s understandably concerned about playing into stereotypes. Just like the animal and nationality
stereotypes, the stereotypes that Vladek fits into work in two ways. Vladek is the miserly old Jew but
the text shows over and over again that this same pragmatic tendency helped him survive a lot of
times in the war, and so in some ways validates the practice. It s important to note though, that the
tendency to save negatively affected Mala and Artie; they both carried a lot of resentment towards
Vladek in the ways that he denied them a lot of basic necessities, and in a lot of ways prioritized
material items and money over members of his family. So while the text shows an explanation of sorts
for Vladek s behavior, it doesn t necessarily make excuses for the problems he caused with his actions
later on. The engagement between cultural perceptions and lived experience continues the subversive
action that is the basic underlying function of the texts. (Maus II,

Exordium By Søren Kierkegaard
Often times, existential philosophers question existence; why something is the way it is. Søren
Kierkegaard such these sort of questions and this is clear in his book Fear and Trembling in the section
entitled Exordium. In this section, there are four different ways a particular story is told of Abraham
contemplating fulfilling a duty to God by sacrificing his son to God. In each of these stories, there is a
different ending trying to get at why Abraham is the greatest. In each of these stories, they show
Abraham s commitment to God in different scenarios. Kierkegaard, writing under the name of
Johannes, tells the story of Abraham taking his son, Isaac, to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him to God to
show his faithfulness. In each of these stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing his
son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four stories,
Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of faith. Even in the
third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for forgiveness for even
contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a lot of commitment. Abraham
realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before anything, and that for one to truly be
connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy his requests. By showing his faith to God
and putting Him first, he at least contemplates sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty,
and that is some extreme faith that is incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so
great, and because of the amount of faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham
tries to cover up the fast that he would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by
pretending to have gone mad and psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in
Abraham. In the second story, Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow
through because God provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. In the third story, Abraham

Patriot Movie Vs History
Movies are a brilliant way to immerse yourself into a wonderful story, full of well developed,

based on historical events that we learned in history class. Yes, a movie might be able to teach you a

The Battle of Camden was shown briefly; it was being observed from an abandoned house by
Benjamin and Gabriel when they left to join the war. Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his troops.
It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis s army in
the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens and the
Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the end battle
of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took charge of the
militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin Martin taking the
spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where they cannot run.
Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This made it so the
militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any kind of river
around the area. Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up with seasoned
men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops (Phillips). Even the British pointed out in The
Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn t know was that
Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread about 150 yards
away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the further it went
back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the ones on the
frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire two shots,
then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them. Then the next
line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together. Tarleton s

Political Influence President Raul Castro of Cuba met with President Obama of the United States at

normalization between both countries and how it can benefit future economical businesses. President
Obama made it clear that the embargo for trade is going to change to a hassle free trade between the
two countries and in support of human rights in Cuba. Cuba has opened up their borders for U.S
companies, allowing U.S investors to physically step foot on country for travel and open up business

I Am A Missionary, By Albert Schweitzer s The Primeval...
In class we discussed various meanings for what it means to be a missionary. Overall we came to the
general conclusion on the first day of class 09/07/2016 that a missionary is someone who goes to a
different community to help fulfill some sort of purpose. The words italicized is what we as a class
decided are integral parts of the identity and mission of a missionary. In addition to this baseline
definition we also discussed possible reasons in which one may feeled compelled to take on a mission.
Some of the ideas brainstormed include: taking on the mission to fulfill a calling, for gratification, or
for religious and ideological agendas. The reading I will be focusing on is from Albert Schweitzer s
The Primeval Forest specifically the chapter titled The Mission . The reading fits into this definition
quite well. Specifically the chapter shows a lot about Schnitzer s purpose and reasons for embarking
on a mission trip in the Ogowe. Throughout the reading Schnitzer discuss a lot about Christianity and
the capacity in which he believes the people of the Ogowe may or may not be able to digest
Christianity.
They have, then, a great natural capacity for taking in the elements if religion, though the historical
element in Christianity lies, naturally, outside their ken. ... Christianity is for him the light that shines

Analysis Of The Article The Pelican Brief
The Wetlands In Grisham s novel, The Pelican Brief, he presents a case where an organization
attempts to protect the coastal marshes of Louisiana against the selfish oil companies and citizens that
wish to destroy it for money. This is a tremendous concern that people deal with in America. John
Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana s
marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows extensive
knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered Brown Pelican
and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of waterfowl, birds,
and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks to non native species,
humans and a numerous amount of different causes. The Brown Pelican, Louisiana s state bird, has
been endangered until 1995, and about half of all the geese in North America spend the winter in the
coastal marshes (Elliott, Charles). Additionally, Louisiana is the leading state for the number of
wintering ducks (¨SGP¨). The marshes are extremely important to the fowl that live there year round
and for the ones that do not. The Bobwhite Quail, that live there year round, have suffered huge losses
to their population. From 1966 they have declined 75%, primarily due to habitat degradation (¨SGP¨).

Hume s Problem Of Induction Essay
Hume provided an integral philosophical question analyzing the problems of causality and of
induction. Following Hume s claims, Kant offered his attempt to solve Hume s problem (or, more
broadly, the problems that empiricism faced). By carefully explaining what the problem is that Kant is
attempting to solve, then explaining vigilantly how Kant tries to solve it. Thus leading to a concluding
critical examination to Kant s solution, indicating whether it s successful and why or why not that s so.
Hume asserts that there is no form of good reasoning that leads to the conclusion that the future will
resemble the past, or that similar causes will lead to similar effects. Hume dedicated his philosophical
work trying to uncover the problem of induction, and his skepticism of causality. Hume s claims stem
from separating two asserts of knowledge as relations of ideas priori, meaning that they are certain and
it is impossible to imagine them to be false, they tell you about the meaning of words, knowledge of
truths and facts and matters of fact much of what the scientific community uses, there are craters on

Gender Roles And The Media
In the 21st century, we see women in the media have many roles that men have, such as, police officer,
doctor and running to become president, while a nurse and teacher have emerged as both men and
women jobs. Over time, the media show how gender role had changed but are what the media is
showing the truth about the gender roles in the United States. Historian and scholar had written about
this subject of gender roles and how the media affect our view.
Thesis statement
Reality vs. Fiction Is the media giving the public a reality of how gender roles are portrayed during a
period or is it a fiction story that helps people cope with the fact of gender role during the time. The
media played an important role as people tried to deal with and interpreted the social change in their
midst.

history of women and how they should act by telling a story. Janet Mickish and Patricia Searles article
published in 1984, even though this article is over 32 year old, their viewpoint is still a subject that is
still talked about today. Mickish and Searles analyze The Ladies home Journal, which first published
in 1883, but they pick articles that issued in 1905. Patricia Searles and Janet Mickish are not a
historian, but many others have cited their work over the year. Melissa R. Klapper books, Jewish Girl

Don Quixote Research Paper
To me the story of Don Quixote is one of a valiant fool. Quixote is a dreamer who wants to do good
and be a hero like the characters in his books, but he is not right in the head and ends up damaging
things more than fixing them. He wants to be a heroic knight and believes he is defending the
peasantry, yet he is mocked and tricked by his neighbors and superiors alike. He is described by the
other characters as mad and a potential danger to himself and others. Don Quixote s madness is central
to the novel, but is that madness really a bad thing? Is Quixote s return to sanity at the ends of the
story a positive ending? I would like to argue that Don Quixote s end game sanity is actually a tragedy.
From the beginning, Don Quixote intended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Believing that his books were responsible for his madness, the towns folk snuck into his home and
burnt all his knight books hoping it would convince him to stop. Unfortunately, with humiliation after
humiliation and being defeated by the Knight of the White Moon (Part 2, Chapter 65, Page 2660) he
came to his senses and hung his lance up, living his remaining days in quite embarrassment.
This to me is tragic as Don Quixote was an unsung hero. Quixote was crazy when pretending to be a
knight and yes, he did cause trouble every now and then, but he also brought joy to people s hearts.
Despite his madness, Quixote wanted to defeat evil trolls, fight monsters, defend women and children
and to his understanding, he was doing just that. He dragged Sancho into his adventures and at first
though he was skeptical, it did not take long until they were inseparable. Sancho knew that though
Don Quixote was mad, he had a heart of gold and truly was trying to make the world a better

The Crime Of The Criminal Justice System
The criminal justice system in England and Wales is made up of multiple agencies which all have
different responsibilities, however they share the main objective of maintaining and enforcing the rule
of law. The International Bar Association (2005) describes the Rule of Law as the foundation of a
civilized society with a society s formal response to crime being the responsibility of the criminal
justice system more specifically in terms of a series of decisions and actions being taken by a number
of agencies (Criminal Justice). Law enforcement, courts, the penal system, and crime prevention are
the four key agencies that make up the criminal justice system.
The criminal justice system is intricate, in addition to the officials and ... Show more content on

Through such mediums as the media, political debates and official statements the public is made
aware and so is able to form opinions and ideas about the way the criminal justice system, and the
agencies involved, function and its effectiveness. When looking at other countries clear differences
can be seen in the structures and practices in place; such things as the contents of the law, the various
sentences enforced by the courts, and countries citizens perspectives of crime and punishment.
In England and Wales adversarial justice is the main principle used in the criminal justice system. The
adversarial system is not designed to establish the truth about an incident, that responsibility is placed
onto law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. Once having identified a suspect it is their
responsibility to gather enough evidence to convince a court of their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
An already stated above, the purpose of an adversarial system of justice is not to get to the truth, the
first barrier to a conviction is the lack of evidence. Once law enforcement has a suspect and has
collected all the evidence possible the case is put to the CPS who will then have to decide whether it is
likely a trial shall result in prosecution, and also whether it is in the public interest to proceed. Once a
decision has been

Investigating The Correlation Between Surface Area And Volume
AIM
To investigate the relationships between the shape of an object and the time taken for a substance to
diffuse into its center and to investigate the correlation between surface area and volume in regards to
cellular transport.
BACKGROUND THEORY / INTRODUCTION
Cells are the basic unit of life of which all living organisms are built upon, they are the smallest living
organizational unit and they all come from pre existing cells which has been supported by several
scientists in the formation of cell theory [Biological physics, 2013]. The structure of a cell is strongly
correlated with its function and the way it acts in relation to other cells and biological processes such
as diffusion. Cells are specialized for many different purposes and their structures reflect these
functions. Every living organism can be classified into two different cell groups; eukaryote cells and
prokaryote cells.
Image 1 [Biochemanics, 2014]
In the comparison image between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells it highlights the specialised
structures of both cell types, the specialised cell structures allow cells to perform certain functions
needed in the organisms it contains. Prokaryotic cells contain flagella which eukaryotic cells do not
and eukaryotic cells have many important structures such as the nucleus or information processing
centre of the cell.
Eukaryotic cells have a defined nucleus and their cytoplasm contains specialized organelles bound to
the cell membrane whereas prokaryotic

Puritan Influence On American Culture
The human brain is a story book filled with experiences. Every experience is a new page, and all of
these pages combine to form our personal perspective on the world. In America, we all have an idea of
what is right and what is wrong based off of our own experiences. This causes us to have many biased
views that do not capture the full picture. The values of our immigrant ancestors define who we are
today.
When we are children, we read various stories, and also taught many values from our parent s own
personal views. At the beginning of new generations, this cycle of teaching values repeats itself. Many
of these values we are taught today trace back to the groups that build our country.
When the Puritans landed upon the shores of America, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They viewed themselves as special people who had a covenant with God. They came to America
seeking to build a theocratic nation with religion as the focal point(PBS par. 2). This is why still to this
day, America is centered around religion.
The holiday of Christmas has always been a part of our Christian nation. The commercialization of the
holiday, however, came to be with the arrival of German immigrants. They brought with them the idea
of Santa Claus, the Christmas Trees, and the Easter Bunny(Chicchi par.6). Think of how different
Americans would be if only Christians celebrated Christmas, and Santa Claus was not a part of the
holiday. All of the ads and commercials around this time of year would be drastically different, as well
as our literature. All of the books that spur children s imagination about elves and the North Pole
would be lost. Some of the greatest memories I have of reading came from my childhood around
Christmas time. I loved reading novels inspired by Santa Claus like The Polar Express. Stories of
elves building toys and reindeer pulling sleighs give children across our country a great imagination
from a young

Encompassing a political system which allows eligible citizens to vote to elect candidates to govern the nation on their behalf. In conjunction, there are numerous principles Australians consider democracy must embody, if the nation is to be considered a democracy at all. At the heart of Australian democracy are the core defining values of: freedom of election and being elected; freedom of assembly and political participation; freedom of speech, expression and religious belief; the rule of law; and other basic human rights. Such as those proposed by The Honourable Aharon Barak, President of the Supreme Court of Israel, who having noted that all democracies share common characteristics, suggested these included public safety and security, the democratic values of the State and its very existence. The premise of terrorism has expedited the initiation of integral changes to the legal system, reducing the rule of law and eroding established civil liberties and legal protections. The counter terrorism measures introduced in Australia confer a power to compel submission to interrogation, a power to detain and interrogate without charge, and a power of preventative detention. In doing so these laws jeopardise the rule of law, expand executive power, diminish existing rights, endanger the separation of powers, and undermine judicial procedures. Archduke Ferdinand Causes It is taught in social studies classes around the world that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria Hungary was the direct cause of World War One, but there were actually many underlying causes that led up to the start of the war. What many people fail to realize is that the many underlying causes that were already prevalent were the real cause of the war. The underlying causes can be broken down into four subcategories: militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was one of the first effects evident of the war, it was the first casualty of the war. Militarism is the first underlying cause; it s all about nations glorifying war and their military. Militarism means that the army ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries and makes them subject to their rule. ( World War One Causes ). Some countries took over other lands for natural resources/raw materials that they needed to make industrial goods, just like Japan did in the twentieth century. Other countries such as Germany conquered colonies because they wanted an empire. This caused conflict over colonies, especially in Africa. ( Long term underlying causes of war 1). In the 19th century, Europeans started to explore The Dark Continent known as Africa. Africa was known as The Dark Continent because no one has explored it yet. European countries starting taking over African colonies in this Scramble for Africa once their missionaries started to explore Africa, and come back to their countries with reports of abundant natural resources such as gold, ivory, and salt. With many world powers competing to get the most colonies they can, conflicts between nations surfaced. This was seen during the Boer War, which was between the British and Dutch with the help of Germany fighting over South Africa. This now sparked a new tension between the British and the Germans. The more colonies owned by a nation, the more powerful the nation seemed. This is the reason the Austro Hungarian empire annexed Bosnia Herzegovina in 1908. The annexation greatly inflamed Serbian nationalism. ( Background to World War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The worlds cultures display so much variety of family that it is difficult to base it off of common elements. The western world regards family as a wife, husband, and children. Other countries or groups, though, have family forms consisting of more than one wife or vice versa. A broad definition of family is when certain people consider themselves related by blood, marriage, or adoption. • 6. The Great Depression The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, is a famous quote once said during the Great Depression by Franklin D. Roosevelt. After one world war, great financial fallout, and another world war to follow, the twentieth century was already shaping out to be a handful. When the Great Depression was coming to an end and the economy was trying to turn around, jobs started opening up and a new wave of immigrants came into New York, the Puerto Ricans. For some the American dream was to come to America and start a new life, but for others already here, it was about making it big in show business. West Side Story , a twentieth century musical, was greatly influenced by the immigration during that time. Before West Side Story was written, there were some major events that occurred. For instance, in 1914 America entered WWI. Then in 1920, women were given the right to vote and women s suffrage was a big focus of the twenties (Unstend 6). Soon after in October of 1929, the Great Depression followed, causing massive economic downfall to the United States. Families during that time were very poor, but millions still went to watch films at local theaters (Unstend 12). One technological advance was the first television which began in 1936 (Unstend 30). After the Great Depression hit, WWII came shortly after and America entered the war on December 7, 1941 after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor (Unstend 18). In fact, they are constantly looking fear in the face right here at our home. As a matter of fact, the typical hero everyone thinks of is our service men and women, but think about the men and women who you call when there s a robbery, or a disturbance, or someone is slinging dope on the street. You don t call the national guard, or the marines you dial 911. First, let s look at what a police officer must go through on a daily basis. Sure, some cops just answer domestic disturbances, whereas Phil, a drunk and disorderly man, is throwing the handset phone at his wife and threatening her life, who does she call? Not the military, no she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In return, the gang may now send goons to take out the officer sitting in his patrol car, or send them after his family. Meanwhile, police officers are recommended to not carry photos in their wallets with them for these specific purposes. The job of a police officer is never easy. In return, they should be shown the respect they deserve. My final point I d like to make is all of the situations the officer goes through on the job causes a lot of stress. The officer may bring these horrible moods home and argue with his or her spouse or he or she may take it out on the kid. With the parent never home this neglects the kid from his or her parent. • 8. Coming of Age in Mississippi and Segregation Essay Coming of Age in Mississippi is an autobiography of the famous Anne Moody. Moody grew up in mist of a Civil Rights Movement as a poor African American woman in rural Mississippi. Her story comprises of her trials and tribulations from life in the South during the rise of the Civil Rights movement. Life during this time embraced segregation, which made life for African Americans rough. As an African American woman growing up during the Civil Rights movement, Moody has a unique story on themes like work and racial consciousness present during this time. This was the beginning of her racial consciousness between whites and blacks. However, fully understanding what was going on around her in the world between white and blacks would be very difficult for a young girl. Even though this is a very basic theme of segregation, this was the first experience Moody had to it, and it was the beginning to her charge for equality. Through work, Moody would slowly start to realize more things about segregation and how it impacts African Americans and her life. As Moody grew up in the South, in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement, she began to understand segregation on a larger context. Her work experiences tell us a lot about racial segregation and inequality. As work offered women new opportunities outside the house, it was different for African American women. They would work in trades least affected by mechanism, like domestic services, such as maids for white families. Moody and her mother both worked to help support the family and worked domestic service jobs. After Linda Mae moves away, Moody had to work somewhere to help support the family, so she worked for Mrs. Burke, even though she was very racist. • 11. Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation compared to the surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for this anomaly was due to the Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower Bakken shale into the upper Three Forks. Current assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is a tight and fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The Pronghorn is believed to only partially inhibit primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor performance across Painted Woods. The lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This thinning greatly reduces the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected from core (Figure 19), the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and lower Bakken shales. The lack of permeability is supported by lithological analysis indicating a clay content of up to 50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods asset. The low permeability and high clay content shows that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude primary migration of hydrocarbons from the lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However, this only has a minimal effect on the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole. Saturation trends in the Pronghorn and the upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower Bakken into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn to the base indicating less hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil saturation never reach 0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil saturation then gradually increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone. This trend is observed throughout all the wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of the Pronghorn. Even though there is less volume of generated lower Bakken hydrocarbons, oil is still able to be transmitted through the Pronghorn across Painted Woods. Dimmesdale is one of the respected mentors the townspeople look up to. The thing the townspeople don t know is that he doesn t practice what he preaches. Dimmesdale committed adultery with Hester Prynne, and if members of society found out, they would be deranged. He tried to tell them multiple times, but he just couldn t say exactly what he had done because he was scared of letting them all down. In one of Dimmesdale s sermons, he said, I am a viler companion of the vilest, the worst of the sinners, an abomination (Hawthorne 131). • 13. Anxiety And Anxiety Disorder Fear and anxiety are feelings that are natural human responses. These feelings are necessary in humans and animals for survival and to deal with dangerous and stressful events. They/such feelings help individuals cope with adverse or unexpected situations. However, there are certain individuals who will experience these feelings on a daily basis for long periods of time. The constant fear and anxiety interferes with individual s daily lives and it is then when these feelings become a mental health problem, identify as Anxiety Disorders (Steimer, 2002). One of these anxiety disorders is Panic Disorder. Panic Disorder is characterized by individuals suffering from unpredicted and constant attacks of fear which normally last between 10 to 20 minutes. These attacks are known as panic attacks. Panic attacks are identified by fear of losing control even in situations where there is no real danger. Some of the most frequent symptoms a person experience when having a panic attack are chest pain, palpitations, sweating, feeling short of breath and the feelings of going crazy or having a heart attack (National Institute of Mental Health, 2016). Furthermore, people who suffer from Panic Disorder often develop other conditions such as depression, phobias and drug abuse. Many people with Panic Disorder will avoid certain situations and environments because they fear they may suffer a panic attack. Because of this, it is also very common for individuals with Panic Disorder to develop agoraphobia (NIH, 2016). As a consequence of fearing a panic attack, people with this disorder often engage in catastrophic and negative thinking. A common example is my heart is beating fast, I am having a heart attack (Steimer, 2002). Therefore, Panic Disorder is a condition that have a negative impact on people s family, social and working lives (Kessler et al., 2005). Panic Disorder is treatable, and numerous treatments exist which help reducing the severity of the symptoms as well as decreasing the number of panic attacks that occur in the disorder. These treatments are biological treatment, which involve pharmacological drugs, psychotherapy or a combination of both (National Institute of Health and Care Excellence, 2013). This essay ... • 14. Birth Order And Identity Identity relates to the overarching question of who are we? In order to understand this question, a person must first look at the what they may value and what they want their identity to be. Children come to define themselves in terms of how they think their parents see them. If their parents see them as worthless, they will come to define themselves as worthless. People who perceive themselves as likable may remember more positive qualities about themselves than negative statements. Others may base everything off of what their sibling may do. Therefore the question lies does birth order determine one s identity or does someone define their own identity. Birth order is a factor that allows a person to unveil the mysteries of human behavior. The Role birth order plays has been significant from ancient civilization to today. Many children born second in the family are physically inferior to the firstborn child. Therefore in ancient civilizations, many of the firstborns survived and mortality rates were low compared to children born after. In ancient civilizations, this could have been because the firstborns were considered precious and therefore they were nourished and treated better than the following children. The treating of the first child being precious can be seen in royal families as they have passed down the thrown to the firstborn while the second and third children do not receive anything. • 16. Biological And Social Effects On Sexual Orientation The Biological and Social Effects on Sexual Orientation The origin and cause of human sexual orientation have been highly debated topics between sociologist and biologists. Most scientists believe sexual orientation is biologically determined while sociologists argue that it is socially constructed. There is a third belief that human sexual orientation is not solely biologically determined or socially constructed. From this belief come theories that combine both arguments, where human sexual orientation contains a biological component and a social component. One of the conjoint theories is that humans are born with a propensity for certain sexual tendencies which are determined biologically, and these tendencies are developed into a complex sexual identity as an adult. This development of sexual tendencies into a sexual identity is influenced by society, and therefore, sexual orientation depends on biological influences as well as society and social influences. There is various evidence and arguments for biological determination and social construction of sexual orientation, as well as a few conjoint theories of sexual orientation, but there are also criticisms of each theory and the validity of these arguments will be explored. Biological determinism of sexual orientation is also known as the evolutionary psychologist s view of sexual orientation. It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher, and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern for quite some time in Europe. Just like the animal and nationality stereotypes, the stereotypes that Vladek fits into work in two ways. Vladek is the miserly old Jew but the text shows over and over again that this same pragmatic tendency helped him survive a lot of times in the war, and so in some ways validates the practice. It s important to note though, that the tendency to save negatively affected Mala and Artie; they both carried a lot of resentment towards Vladek in the ways that he denied them a lot of basic necessities, and in a lot of ways prioritized material items and money over members of his family. So while the text shows an explanation of sorts for Vladek s behavior, it doesn t necessarily make excuses for the problems he caused with his actions later on. The engagement between cultural perceptions and lived experience continues the subversive action that is the basic underlying function of the texts. (Maus II, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Exordium By Søren Kierkegaard Often times, existential philosophers question existence; why something is the way it is. Søren Kierkegaard such these sort of questions and this is clear in his book Fear and Trembling in the section entitled Exordium. In this section, there are four different ways a particular story is told of Abraham contemplating fulfilling a duty to God by sacrificing his son to God. In each of these stories, there is a different ending trying to get at why Abraham is the greatest. In each of these stories, they show Abraham s commitment to God in different scenarios. Kierkegaard, writing under the name of Johannes, tells the story of Abraham taking his son, Isaac, to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him to God to show his faithfulness. In each of these stories ... In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing his son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four stories, Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of faith. Even in the third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for forgiveness for even contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a lot of commitment. Abraham realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before anything, and that for one to truly be connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy his requests. By showing his faith to God and putting Him first, he at least contemplates sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty, and that is some extreme faith that is incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so great, and because of the amount of faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham tries to cover up the fast that he would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by pretending to have gone mad and psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in Abraham. In the second story, Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow through because God provides a ram to sacrifice instead of Isaac. In the third story, Abraham ... People in the film industry work hard to come up with a plot line that can draw in many viewers. There are not only movies that are created as a work of fantasy, but also ones that are inspired by real events that has transpired. Many have been based on historical events that we learned in history class. Yes, a movie might be able to teach you a thing or two about the past. What better way to learn history, right? Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his troops. It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis s army in the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the end battle of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took charge of the militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin Martin taking the spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where they cannot run. Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This made it so the militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any kind of river around the area. Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up with seasoned men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops (Phillips). Even the British pointed out in The Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn t know was that Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread about 150 yards away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the further it went back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the ones on the frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire two shots, then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them. Then the next line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together. Tarleton s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overall we came to the general conclusion on the first day of class 09/07/2016 that a missionary is someone who goes to a different community to help fulfill some sort of purpose. The words italicized is what we as a class decided are integral parts of the identity and mission of a missionary. In addition to this baseline definition we also discussed possible reasons in which one may feeled compelled to take on a mission. Investigating The Correlation Between Surface Area And Volume AIM To investigate the relationships between the shape of an object and the time taken for a substance to diffuse into its center and to investigate the correlation between surface area and volume in regards to cellular transport. BACKGROUND THEORY / INTRODUCTION Cells are the basic unit of life of which all living organisms are built upon, they are the smallest living organizational unit and they all come from pre existing cells which has been supported by several scientists in the formation of cell theory [Biological physics, 2013]. The structure of a cell is strongly correlated with its function and the way it acts in relation to other cells and biological processes such as diffusion. Cells are specialized for many different purposes and their structures reflect these functions. Every living organism can be classified into two different cell groups; eukaryote cells and prokaryote cells.
