Renaissance And Artemisia Gentileschi ( Baroque )
Lane Sofonisba Anguissola (Renaissance) and Artemisia Gentileschi(Baroque) The renaissance began
in Italy from the 14th to the 16th century, and was followed by the baroque period which roughly was
between 16th to 17th century, each revolutionized the period prior. This is perfectly represented by
two very different and yet very similar artists: Sofonisba Anguissola and Artemisia Gentileschi.
Though one more so paved the way for the other, there connection appears to have nearly materialized
out of thin air, and begs the age old psychological question of nature Vs. nurture.
Anguissola started life in Cremona, Italy in about 1532, during the renaissance period. She would go
on to dazzle all those before her with her virtuousness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is similar to Gentileschi, who moved to a variety of places such as London, Florence, Venice, and
Naples. I suspect that the two mutually wanted to escape and pursue brighter futures while developing
their already noteworthy talents. Another interesting commonality between the two is that Anguissola
s mother died when she was around 4 or 5. Similarly, Gentileschi lost her mother at a young age, when
she was around 12 years old. Gentileschi must have struggled more as a result than her fortunate
predecessor, as she was not from prestigious family. Her father was a fairly well known artist who
worshipped Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio s style, especially his use of tenebrism. This adoration
was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style. Intriguingly, there is a bizarre
connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that Anguissola had sent to the famed
artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more famous one), had ended up in a
notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have been discovered by Caravaggio, which
later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . There is a clear connection through time between
these two women. Yet, in a way seems to have been founded through pure chance and phenomenon.
As hard as it is to believe, this is not the only person who intertwines these women together. Anthony
Van Dyke visited Anguissola when she was very old, and blind, but spent hours

Reflection Of A Journey To The Lake Of The Woods
The other day I was making a gratitude list. I do this periodically after I m reminded by someone to
make it a daily practice. I can attest that as it makes me more aware of what people, birthright and
luck brings to one s life. My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my
friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in
Northern Minnesota.
My father just pushed past ninety three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed a
relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company in a
place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our
vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences.
Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock
and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, It s a cabin in the sticks . The island s inhabitance
began in the 1920 s by my father s father. It s both humble and grand. More than once will I hear the
word Paradise as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on all sides. You can
only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as timeless . Regardless of
modernization, the vista is an enduring expanse of green cedar and white pine trees whose gnarly roots
hang on for dear life to the granite. It s a wonder

The Role Of Cancer In Men
Many Americans and individuals worldwide live with one of the most deadly diseases, cancer
(American Cancer Society (ACS), 2015). ACS (2015) defines cancer as a disease in which abnormal
cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissues. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in
the world today. Although both men and women can contract the disease, genetic studies show that 1
in 3 American men will suffer some form of cancer during their long or short lifespan. There are
numerous kinds of cancer that affect different parts of your body. However, in American men the three
most common life threatening cancers target the colon and rectum, lungs, pancreas and liver.

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer
death in men. Many of the colorectal cancers develop from precanurous polyps. Polyps are growths
that rise in the lining of the colon and can be visible when the bowel is examined by endoscopy. There
are two types of polyps: Aderiomatous and hyperplasic polyps. Aderiomatous polyps can become
cancerous over the time and progress takes at least ten years in most men. Signs of colon cancer
include a change in your bowel system (diarrhea or constipation or a change in the constant of your
stool) that last for more than four weeks. Rectal signs are bleeding or blood in your stool. Many
people may feel discomfort, such as pain or cramps. Others may even become weak or even fatigue.
Multiple people who have colon cancer may experience no symptoms in the early stages of the
disease. When the symptoms finally appear, they will likely vary, depending on the cancers size and
the location in your large intestine. The primary goal of the screenings is to prevent deaths from colon
cancer. Screening test can help identify cancers at an early and potentially at a curable stage.
Screening can even prevent you from also true development of cancer by identifying and treating
precancerous abnormal growths that can be removed before they become malignant. Physicians
recommend that adults undergo colon cancer screening starting at the age 50 or maybe even earlier
just depending on their risk of developing colorectal cancer. The screening tests are currently available
each of which has advantages and disadvantages. Treatment for colon cancer is based on how severe
the stage of cancer, but there are other important factors. People with colon cancer that have not
spread to distant sites usually have surgery as the main or

Sign Music Personal Statement
I have wanted to study abroad since I was young, and will have the opportunity to do so next year at
the University of Quebec. There, I will study French and hopefully a bit of music in hopes to pursue
my lifelong goal of learning. I believe with education and willingness the world is without borders!
Originally from the area, I graduated from Shepherd High School in Isabella County in 2012, and was
honored to have been the Maple Syrup Queen my graduation year. In high school was very involved
with the choir program, and loved singing. I had a little exposure to French, but at the time I was more
curious about American Sign Language (ASL). When I went to Central Michigan University I decided
to pursue my greatest passion, vocal music, with a minor ASL. I am currently in my senior year in
college, and will be entering a fifth and final year, with two majors slightly different than when I first

two years of my involvement within the department I did not complete the minor. In pursuing ASL, I
became quite good, and was very active in the American Sign Language Society, having served as the

Racism in America
Racism in America

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to show the effects of racism in America. Racism is defined as one
group assumes superiority over other groups that develop attitudes of arrogance and ignorance.
Despite many laws and legislation attempts to eliminate the evils of racism, the problem focuses on
the cultural differences of race, color and biological supremacy. Racism comes in the form of ethnic
cleansing, hate groups, discrimination and restraint of equal rights. Over the last decade the media has
become one of the major contributors of racism in the 21st century. The media have displayed labels

Racism has a long continuous history in America that began from slavery to the passage of the Civil
Rights Act (1964).There are many forms of racism: open, violent and covert. Open racism focuses on
individual freedom to express racial thoughts and speech. Open racism exist in America because of an
individual s freedom of speech derived from the first amendment (Deo, 2012). Societal use of open
racism in America is declining and found unconstitutional and politically incorrect. Violent racism is a
form of racism that the use of violence is exhibited through imposing fear from racial groups to
express their agendas. Covert racism is the most common type of racism used today. The covert racist
is unaware that they are racist. Covert racists uses this tactic to intimidate groups or cultures that are
inferior to their culture. Individual racism is a form of racism that has one person discriminates against
another. Institutional racism is a form of racism when institutions discriminate against a race for unfair
and biased reasons, the same reason the individual racist would do (racial profiling). Lastly racism is
in the form of people displaying attitudes about other races and cultures. Since post 9 / 11 attitudes

New Zealand is an island country in the South Western Pacific Ocean and it is located east of
Australia. The country is small, similar in size with Great Britain or Japan, and their population is of

Many tourists visit New Zealand just to see and experience their culture. In a report from
Kwintessential.co.uk, it is written: A Maori will spontaneously launch into speech and song. Even
though they may not have met each other, they will know many songs they can sing together and often
use these to close or enhance speeches. They will often call for visitors to do the same and it would be
wise to have 2 or 3 practiced songs from your own country to reply with.
In addition to the Maoris speeches and songs, they have a dance called Haka . It is an ancient war
dance used on the battlefield and when groups came together in peace. According to newzealand.com,
the dance include violent foot stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany
a loud chant. It shows a tribe s pride, strength and unity. New Zealand s rugby team All Blacks,
performs the Haka dance to challenge the opponents on the sports field before their matches

Another big part of the Maoris culture, is art. Their visual art consists of weaving, carving, tattooing
and painting. According to Wikipedia.org, their art is highly spiritual and the creation of art is
governed by the rules of Tapu. There are a lot of different styles of art, and they vary from region to
region. The most common and traditional art is highly stylized and featured motifs such as the spiral,
the chevron and the koru. There are three dominating colors black, white and red.

The background of the paintings and some visual elements are the same when it comes to the meaning
of the painting. To a non art student the visual at first glance is very important to set the tone of the
paintings. This helps the viewer understand the groundwork of the subject matter. Picasso s Guernica
is very representational but I can also see so abstract aspects in a weird way. Goya s Third of May is
naturalistic and representational but unlike Guernica we can clearly see the people who are in charge
causing the struggle. In both paintings the value of the light plays important role in the paintings.
Picasso uses shades of black and white to show all the different aspects and the painting. Goya uses
the value of the light to direct our attention to the main events in the painting. The lines in Guernica is
more curvy, where as Goya s third of May has more straight lines which effects the flow of the
painting. In both of the paintings the background of the paintings are very similar. People, places,
animals and things are being destroyed because of ruling issues. In Goya s painting to can see
hopelessness and suffering on the man s face while begging for his life. Both of the paintings we can
feel the senseless violence that was depicted. The violence that took place was recorded and reported

The role of the principal is multi faceted. The techno century s principalship in its epitomized role is
about ensuring the relevance of aims, content, practices, and outcomes of formal education to digital

These shall be leaders having a strong moral purpose and commitment to working to help all schools
improve performance. This view that, in the techno century the days of the self contained, stand alone
school will be superseded, is also argued by the eminent Australian educationalist Hedley Beare: The
best schools are part of a living ecology of learning localities and sites, and can access learning
modules from almost anywhere. The school, therefore, acts not as a sole and exclusive provider of
programs for students enrolled, and does not assume its own curriculum offerings are confined to its
own campus. Rather, it acts as a learning broker to find, contract in, and then manage what is available
on its web of contacts. The opportunities for leadership within this model are immense. The walls of
the school are removed and educators of all levels can contribute to the development of individuals,
groups, schools, and networks both national and international. The challenge for each nation is to
develop the culture and the capacity for the new style of leadership.
Now as effective leadership is recognised as a key feature of successful schools, however, is the style
of leadership needed in the techno century the same as what was required in the 20th century? We can
use examples from industry and business to help us understand leadership for the techno century. Jim
Collins has a five level hierarchy of leadership: Level V: Executive. Builds enduring

Political Regimes And Degree Of Pluralism
Introduction
The decolonization process after the Second World War brought a new hope for a more democratic
world. In Africa, however, the process did not provide the results expected by the West as most of the
African states turned rapidly into various forms of authoritarian regimes with only a few adopting
more democratic rule. Reasons for that are manifold. Authoritarianism, in the African context, is
defined by a lack of state and ruling elites capacity to transform [...] power into effective political,
economic, and cultural policies thus undermining the presence of an overarching authority and being
often, but not always, repressive (Fatton Jr, 1988, p. 255). The differences in political regimes and
degree of pluralism can be analysed during the transition period in early post independence years,
determined by ways in which leaders centralized power differently across Africa (Bratton Van der
Walle, 1994, p. 468). While some argue that colonial legacies have laid the ground for the prevalence
of authoritarianism after independence, others would see this explanation as reductionist and
simplistic, failing to consider other historical, social and cultural aspects. This essay will review some
of the structural limitations that emerged in the colonial period and were reinforced by other factors
such as the international environment and informal politics, upholding authoritarian practices and
corruption across almost all of the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). First, I will

instance, during the first half of the 1990 s, the airline industry suffered a lot because of world

After this, the member airlines realized that if they want to survive and become profitable, it is

Esther And Judith Essay
Scripture or Not: Esther and Judith
Esther, an early secular novel, never mentions God but is Scripture (included in the canon). A Jewish
historical novel that portrays Judith, who saves her people through honoring vows, praying and
creative action; has been rejected/accepted in Judaism and Christianity so that it is Scripture/not
Scripture depending on the applied canon (list of authoritative/sacred works). For Protestants it is not
(Countryman; Coogan 8). Disparity in treatment of these works is attributable to the evolution of the
Hebrew/Old Testament canon. In fact, only the Torah has generally been accepted since Old Testament
times.
The Hebrew Bible included, along with the Torah, the closed sets of Neviim (prophets) and Ketuvim
(writings) together called the Tanakh (Coogan 3 4). These, including Esther, were upheld as canon at
Jamnia (AD 90) by agreement with three criteria: written prior to 399 BCE, in Hebrew (with
allowances made for Aramaic), and widely used (Schwab, Sharon; Coogan 5 6). Esther was set in the
Persian period and possibly written as early as the fifth century BCE (Crawford 855). It provided
etiology and the megillot used for a celebration not prescribed by the Torah; and was included for this
reason (Coogan 518, 6). Judith may have originally been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Horror Of The Zombie
Without question, in today s society the most favored monster in pop culture is the modern day

evolved to its modern state alongside the psychological state of society.
Zombies originated in Haiti from a belief that witch doctors could create a hypnotic slave through
magic, a potion, or hypnosis (Lockhurst). The zombie first appeared in White Zombie, a cinematic

Francis Scott Key s The Star-Spangled Banner
The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched his fellow Americans stand
strong in their darkest hour. For over twenty four hours Fort McHenry was bombarded by British
Navy, but the American troops fought, and so did their families. The Americans rallied around the
singular flag that stood high in the fort, and a flag that was a target for the British armada. They
planned to destroy the flag to disrupt moral, but the Americans refused to let it fall. They used that
singular flag as motivation, and motivation that eventually won them the battle. The flag still holds the
same purpose today. To remember those who have fought, or are currently fighting in our armies. It
also serves as a source of pride, motivation, and patriotism towards our country. Knowing what our
flag means to our history and our country, we can t possibly keep letting our countries source of pride
be disrespected by those attempting to promote their own cause. Are nations athletes that choose to

Global Environmental Problems
Global environmental problems have taken a turn for the worst in recent years. For water pollution,
carbon emissions, and hurricanes have been at their highest peak in 2017. These issues have only
begun to get worse due to power plants, burning of fossil fuels, and several other environmentally
hazardous factories. In just 2017, six major hurricanes have occurred due to a combination of climate
change, warming of the oceans, air and water pollution, overpopulation, and several other
environmental polluters. Countries, including the United States of America, are drastically being
affected by these events, some more than others. Global environmental problems have increased over
the years and will continue to grow worse if actions are not taken to change this pattern. If the
population continues to grow exponentially, like it is now, Homo sapiens will drastically feel the
effects of global environmental changes including a lack of water, polluted waters and air, and a
drastically lower life expectancy. According to the article, Food by World Wildlife 7.3 billion people

Determining Unknown in Microbiology Lab
Determining an Unknown Through Deferential Stains and Biochemical Tests Introduction There are
many reasons for knowing the identity of microorganisms. The reasons range from knowing the
causative agent of a disease in a patient, so as to know how it can be treated, to knowing the correct
microorganism to be used for making certain foods or antibiotics. This study was done by applying all
of the methods that have been learned so far in the microbiology laboratory class for the identification
of unknown bacteria. The identification process can be completed with a series of deferential stains

this test and needs to be inoculated with the gram negative bacteria. A pink color in the medium
indicates a urease positive organism, an orange or yellow is negative. The IMViC test is a series of
different tests that differentiate between enterics. One is the Indole test. This test tells whether the
bacterium possesses tryptophanase which is the enzyme that breaks down tryptophan into indole. The
agar contains tryptic soy broth so if the bacterium contains tryptophanase, indole is produced. This
production of indole is seen by adding Kovac s reagent which causes a red ring to be seen at the top of
the tube. The citrate test is also used to see which kind of products the bacteria make. It uses a green

Emotional Intelligence And Criminal Behavior
There has been a considerable number of emotional intelligence studies done on a variety of
disciplines such as psychology, sociology and criminology. For many decades, criminal behavior has
been studied by these disciplines. Recently, these studies have focus on the relationship of criminal
behavior, with intelligence and personality traits. There also exists a large number of studies that
evaluate the emotional intelligence of both, transgressors and non offenders. However, a small amount
of these studies explore the transgressor population. In the cases where the studies consider felons as
direct variables, the results have been inconsistent. Perhaps, two of the major problems with these
studies, resides in the low sample taken into consideration, as well as, the non disparity of offences
committed. The author of the article Emotional Intelligence and Criminal Behavior assesses the
connection between emotional intelligence (EI) and criminal behavior. This research concentrates on
the emotional intelligence of transgressors. Centering its attention on the deficiencies expresses above,

The Painted Door Short Story
Sinclair Ross wrote the short story The Painted Door in 1939 for Queens Quarterly, a magazine, in
Canada. Within the short story Ross emphasized the struggles of experienced by those on the 1930 s
Post Depression Canadian prairie. He does this by describing one day where a farmer named John
makes the nineteen mile march across the snow covered hills to his father s home, to make sure he is
okay before the blizzard. Meanwhile John s wife Ann is at home with their young neighbor Steven
having dinner and playing cards. As the night wares on the two sleeps with one another and John, who
has finally made it home, turns back out to face the blizzard and freezes to death. Through this harsh
and realistic short story Ross highlights the importance of loyalty, sacrifice, isolation, and aging. In the
short story the reader finds the story set in the middle of winter on the Canadian prairie as a blizzard is
brewing. John, a farmer, plans to check on his aging father, who lives seventeen miles away over the
hills, before the blizzard hits them. John s wife Ann doesn t want him to make the journey as she is
afraid of being alone. So, John then invites their young neighbor, Steven, over to keep her company by
eating and playing cards till Johns return. There is a break in the story that describes how John and
Ann have been married seven years. John is big, strong, and quiet, and wants to pay off their mortgage
so they can move into a bigger house and Ann can get some nice cloths.

I Am Bigfoot
For my essay I will discuss the theory of formalism, and how it is described in Shlovsky s Art as
Technique. Using my formulated definition, I will then apply my findings to the text I am Bigfoot, in
order to relate the text to the definition. The definition of formalism is to study a text without any
outside influences. In Victor Shklovsky s Art as Technique formalism is suggesting that art makes
objects unfamiliar. Art is a way of experiencing the artfulness of an object: the object is not important.
Understanding the text with the concept of formalism in mind, art alters our perceptions of item that
we once believed were understood. Art alters our perception by presenting it self in a different way, or
in a new context. Formalism comes into play during this topic for in order to ... Show more content on

Now applying this theory to the short story I am Bigfoot, we need to focus less on the absurdity of the
situation, and more on what the text is trying to present to us. I am Bigfoot written by Ron Carson, is a
story where Bigfoot formally addresses himself to the public eye. Ignoring Carson s previous work
Bigfoot Stole My Wife we experience Bigfoot in a different way. The Bigfoot that we knew is a
universal mythical figure that everyone has either heard of, and some have claimed to see. This
Bigfoot is universally depicted as animalistic, as a posed to the poised figure that is presented to us in
the text. In the story we are instead being introduced to the real Bigfoot, and hearing his testimony
against his involvement of the kidnapping of wives. By the end of the story our perception of Bigfoot
has been changed from a wild beast, towards more of an arrogant home wreaker. Referring to the
quote up above one may ignore, or replace the object(Bigfoot), for the object is not important Bigfoot
could be replaced by another mythical legend, or even human the object does not matter. The context

Summary Of Drug Policy And The Public Good
Marijuana is the most popular and widey used illegal drug internationally. According to Room et al, 4
percent of the adult around the world population used marijuana(Room et al, 2011, pg.1). This number
represents much more than other illicit drugs used combined, including cocaine and other extreme
serious drugs. However, our global attention on drug problems focus on the serious drugs which is
known to be very harmful, and destructive when the number of marijuana users are consistently rising
every year(Schelling, 2011).
Our current drug policies are definitely minimizing the negative effects caused by the psychoactive
illegal drugs on the health and safety of the population. The textbook Drug Policy and the Public

The Discovery That Double Stranded Rna Can Efficiently...
The discovery that double stranded RNA can efficiently silence gene expression (RNA interference,
RNAi) was made by Andrew Fire and Craig Mello in 1998 in the worm C. elegans (Fire et al., 1998).
It has since been hailed as one of the most important innovations in modern molecular medicine and
accordingly, the pair were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 2006. This
discovery opened up a whole new field of biological research which has impacted all aspects of
medicine including neuroscience. The reason underlying this is that RNAi is now one of the most
powerful and widely used tools to selectively inactivate gene expression. This technique has been used
not only to enhance our understanding of gene function, but also as ... Show more content on

RNAi challenges this notion by demonstrating that RNA can also disrupt this flow of genetic
information and prevent protein expression. Since 1998 the exact mechanism of RNAi has been
thoroughly investigated, and it has been shown that the RNAi machinery, known as RNA induced
silencing complex (RISC), is activated when two fragments of RNA combine to form double stranded
RNA (Ramachandran et al., 2013). RISC then binds to one of these RNA fragments, which acts as a
template allowing RISC to search for its complementary sequence on the target mRNA. As such, this
fragment is known as the guide or antisense strand (Wang et al., 2011). When RISC detects its
matching sequence, the target mRNA is cleaved by certain nucleases or degraded by the cellular
machinery, which effectively prevents translation of the transcript and silences expression of the
protein (Wang et al., 2011). As described, the initial step in this process relies on the formation of an
RNA duplex, which can occur in two pathways. Firstly, dsRNA can form in an endogenous manner
due to the presence of non coding regulatory RNA called micro (mi)RNA. miRNAs were discovered
in the early 2000s as a result of Fire and Mello s work, and they function as important post

is capable of normal sight. The possibilities are endless as many things can be done and many doctors

superhuman? How? Well, light comes in different wavelengths and humans can only see the visible
spectrum made of colored light. If a bionic eye could let us see the entire electromagnetic spectrum,
from radio waves to gamma waves we d be able to see heat, identify types of gases by sight, and even
look through walls. In a future of humans with a computer in their eyes bionic eyes will be an ongoing
topic of the future. With a camera as an eye, humans will be able to do things like: zoom in and out
like a camera lens, have UV vision, record what we see, and even automatically be able to sync it to

It is to be noted that despite of using all these methods for removing rectal tags, be it cosmetic

anal tags might get infected.
Are anal tags the cause of any health complications?
No, as already mentioned above anal tags are harmless, but if they get ruptured from anal intercourse
or by passing a hard stool, they can get infected which can further lead to lots of health complications.
Although they are not contagious but if they gets inflamed, or gets injured they can take serious

The Utilization Of Prescription Drug
The utilization of prescription drug has increased in recent times. The availability of these medications
has resulted in the treatment of numerous infections and ailments. These drugs alleviate chronic pain,
depression and anxiety, sleep apnea, and much more. For an efficient health system, the main goal is
to provide quality health care to all patients. However, over the years, there have been many legal and
health controversies over drugs and the effects that they have on the body. The process of prescription
drug starts from a lab and ultimately sojourns with the end user. The drugs undergo testing and are
often developed to treat a specific disease before being reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA).
Healthcare organizations use formulary systems in order to efficiently dispense prescription drugs.
According to Steiner (2014), a formulary system is an ongoing process whereby healthcare
organization establishes policies regarding the use of drugs. This system also identifies the best
medically appropriate and cost effective drugs to best serve patients. The process of this method
includes a list of drugs approved by healthcare professionals. Some of the issues involved in
implementing formulary systems stem from legal challenges such as anti substituting or generic
substituting laws, federal and state drug laws, and trademark laws (Steiner, 2014). In the case of anti

Taking a Look at Sports Psychology
Don t think of a pink elephant. Come on don t let the picture creep into your mind. Stop thinking of

cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell
themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team
score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into the
net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete might
end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might take the
three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that shot before.
These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in sports, is so
important it can completely change the outcome of the game.
Sports Psychology has become more and more influential in understanding how to play the game.
Serious athletes are now training their mind just as much as they train their body. They have found
that to be a champion, it now takes more than just being fit and having talent. As the pressure to
succeed continues to increase, athletes continually add both physical and emotional stress to their
bodies. Mental toughness, or the ability to perform at one s optimal level regardless of their

The Building Blocks Of Successful Leadership Essay
4 The building blocks of successful leadership pipeline
Despite the benefits listed above, leadership succession remains a cause of concern for a number of
organisations. DDI s Global Leadership Forecast from 2011 showed how only 38% of participating
leaders said the quality of leadership within their organisation is either very good or excellent. More
importantly, only 18% of HR professionals in the same survey felt the organisations have a strong
bench to respond to future needs. In order to make the most of the leadership pipeline model,
organisations must also focus on the following four elements.
A simple system with buy in from the senior leadership team
The focus should be on creating a clear and simple pipeline framework. The more complex the
program, the more it risks failing at some point. If the organisation is able to reduce the bureaucracy
required to run the system, then it ensures the system is based on clarity and effectiveness. One way to
remove complexity from the system is by narrowing its focus. The processes used must be focused on
the actual objectives and needs of the organisation. There s no reason to add broadness by creating a
far reaching process when there is no need for it. The scope is at its best when it doesn t focus on
every person within the organisation, but narrows the effort down towards a few key players.
Furthermore, it s important to ensure the system is flexible enough to respond the changing needs
within the organisation.

  • 2. Renaissance And Artemisia Gentileschi ( Baroque ) Lane Sofonisba Anguissola (Renaissance) and Artemisia Gentileschi(Baroque) The renaissance began in Italy from the 14th to the 16th century, and was followed by the baroque period which roughly was between 16th to 17th century, each revolutionized the period prior. This is perfectly represented by two very different and yet very similar artists: Sofonisba Anguissola and Artemisia Gentileschi. Though one more so paved the way for the other, there connection appears to have nearly materialized out of thin air, and begs the age old psychological question of nature Vs. nurture. Anguissola started life in Cremona, Italy in about 1532, during the renaissance period. She would go on to dazzle all those before her with her virtuousness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is similar to Gentileschi, who moved to a variety of places such as London, Florence, Venice, and Naples. I suspect that the two mutually wanted to escape and pursue brighter futures while developing their already noteworthy talents. Another interesting commonality between the two is that Anguissola s mother died when she was around 4 or 5. Similarly, Gentileschi lost her mother at a young age, when she was around 12 years old. Gentileschi must have struggled more as a result than her fortunate predecessor, as she was not from prestigious family. Her father was a fairly well known artist who worshipped Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio s style, especially his use of tenebrism. This adoration was imparted to his daughter Artemisia, who often copied this style. Intriguingly, there is a bizarre connection even in this. There is some rumor that a drawing that Anguissola had sent to the famed artist Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (the more famous one), had ended up in a notebook belonging to Giorgio Vasari, and is suspected to have been discovered by Caravaggio, which later inspired his painting Boy Bitten by a Lizard . There is a clear connection through time between these two women. Yet, in a way seems to have been founded through pure chance and phenomenon. As hard as it is to believe, this is not the only person who intertwines these women together. Anthony Van Dyke visited Anguissola when she was very old, and blind, but spent hours ... • 3. Reflection Of A Journey To The Lake Of The Woods The other day I was making a gratitude list. I do this periodically after I m reminded by someone to make it a daily practice. I can attest that as it makes me more aware of what people, birthright and luck brings to one s life. My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in Northern Minnesota. My father just pushed past ninety three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed a relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company in a place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences. Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, It s a cabin in the sticks . The island s inhabitance began in the 1920 s by my father s father. It s both humble and grand. More than once will I hear the word Paradise as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on all sides. You can only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as timeless . Regardless of modernization, the vista is an enduring expanse of green cedar and white pine trees whose gnarly roots hang on for dear life to the granite. It s a wonder ... • 4. The Role Of Cancer In Men Many Americans and individuals worldwide live with one of the most deadly diseases, cancer (American Cancer Society (ACS), 2015). ACS (2015) defines cancer as a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissues. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world today. Although both men and women can contract the disease, genetic studies show that 1 in 3 American men will suffer some form of cancer during their long or short lifespan. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Many of the colorectal cancers develop from precanurous polyps. Polyps are growths that rise in the lining of the colon and can be visible when the bowel is examined by endoscopy. There are two types of polyps: Aderiomatous and hyperplasic polyps. Aderiomatous polyps can become cancerous over the time and progress takes at least ten years in most men. Signs of colon cancer include a change in your bowel system (diarrhea or constipation or a change in the constant of your stool) that last for more than four weeks. Rectal signs are bleeding or blood in your stool. Many people may feel discomfort, such as pain or cramps. Others may even become weak or even fatigue. Multiple people who have colon cancer may experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When the symptoms finally appear, they will likely vary, depending on the cancers size and the location in your large intestine. The primary goal of the screenings is to prevent deaths from colon cancer. Screening test can help identify cancers at an early and potentially at a curable stage. Screening can even prevent you from also true development of cancer by identifying and treating precancerous abnormal growths that can be removed before they become malignant. Physicians recommend that adults undergo colon cancer screening starting at the age 50 or maybe even earlier just depending on their risk of developing colorectal cancer. The screening tests are currently available each of which has advantages and disadvantages. Treatment for colon cancer is based on how severe the stage of cancer, but there are other important factors. Canada (Minister of National Defense) Facts: Liebmann applied for the position of Executive Assistant to the Commanding Officer in the Persian Gulf Operation. Staff Officers recommended he be appointed and the Commanding Officer agreed. When command staff became aware that Liebmann was Jewish they decided not to select him. Liebmann challenged the decision, as well as CFAO 20 53 (an enactment for which the decision was based upon) under s. 15 of the Charter. Issues: 1. Should the court consider the constitutionality of CFAO 20 53? 2. Does the Charter apply to the decision not to appoint Liebmann? 3. Since the addendum did not necessitate a signature or formal acceptance in any manner, it cannot be construed as an offer or formal rejection of prior terms. 2. The school, therefore, acts not as a sole and exclusive provider of programs for students enrolled, and does not assume its own curriculum offerings are confined to its own campus. Rather, it acts as a learning broker to find, contract in, and then manage what is available on its web of contacts. The opportunities for leadership within this model are immense. • 13. Political Regimes And Degree Of Pluralism Introduction The decolonization process after the Second World War brought a new hope for a more democratic world. In Africa, however, the process did not provide the results expected by the West as most of the African states turned rapidly into various forms of authoritarian regimes with only a few adopting more democratic rule. Reasons for that are manifold. Authoritarianism, in the African context, is defined by a lack of state and ruling elites capacity to transform [...] power into effective political, economic, and cultural policies thus undermining the presence of an overarching authority and being often, but not always, repressive (Fatton Jr, 1988, p. 255). The differences in political regimes and degree of pluralism can be analysed during the transition period in early post independence years, determined by ways in which leaders centralized power differently across Africa (Bratton Van der Walle, 1994, p. 468). While some argue that colonial legacies have laid the ground for the prevalence of authoritarianism after independence, others would see this explanation as reductionist and simplistic, failing to consider other historical, social and cultural aspects. This essay will review some of the structural limitations that emerged in the colonial period and were reinforced by other factors such as the international environment and informal politics, upholding authoritarian practices and corruption across almost all of the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). A Jewish historical novel that portrays Judith, who saves her people through honoring vows, praying and creative action; has been rejected/accepted in Judaism and Christianity so that it is Scripture/not Scripture depending on the applied canon (list of authoritative/sacred works). For Protestants it is not (Countryman; Coogan 8). Disparity in treatment of these works is attributable to the evolution of the Hebrew/Old Testament canon. In fact, only the Torah has generally been accepted since Old Testament times. The Hebrew Bible included, along with the Torah, the closed sets of Neviim (prophets) and Ketuvim (writings) together called the Tanakh (Coogan 3 4). These, including Esther, were upheld as canon at Jamnia (AD 90) by agreement with three criteria: written prior to 399 BCE, in Hebrew (with allowances made for Aramaic), and widely used (Schwab, Sharon; Coogan 5 6). Esther was set in the Persian period and possibly written as early as the fifth century BCE (Crawford 855). This number represents much more than other illicit drugs used combined, including cocaine and other extreme serious drugs. However, our global attention on drug problems focus on the serious drugs which is known to be very harmful, and destructive when the number of marijuana users are consistently rising every year(Schelling, 2011). Our current drug policies are definitely minimizing the negative effects caused by the psychoactive illegal drugs on the health and safety of the population. The textbook Drug Policy and the Public Good provide good descriptions and explanations of the most recent researches focused on the illegal drugs effects, and effects of drug policy. • 26. The Discovery That Double Stranded Rna Can Efficiently... The discovery that double stranded RNA can efficiently silence gene expression (RNA interference, RNAi) was made by Andrew Fire and Craig Mello in 1998 in the worm C. elegans (Fire et al., 1998). It has since been hailed as one of the most important innovations in modern molecular medicine and accordingly, the pair were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 2006. This discovery opened up a whole new field of biological research which has impacted all aspects of medicine including neuroscience. The reason underlying this is that RNAi is now one of the most powerful and widely used tools to selectively inactivate gene expression. This technique has been used not only to enhance our understanding of gene function, but also as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... RNAi challenges this notion by demonstrating that RNA can also disrupt this flow of genetic information and prevent protein expression. Since 1998 the exact mechanism of RNAi has been thoroughly investigated, and it has been shown that the RNAi machinery, known as RNA induced silencing complex (RISC), is activated when two fragments of RNA combine to form double stranded RNA (Ramachandran et al., 2013). RISC then binds to one of these RNA fragments, which acts as a template allowing RISC to search for its complementary sequence on the target mRNA. As such, this fragment is known as the guide or antisense strand (Wang et al., 2011). When RISC detects its matching sequence, the target mRNA is cleaved by certain nucleases or degraded by the cellular machinery, which effectively prevents translation of the transcript and silences expression of the protein (Wang et al., 2011). As described, the initial step in this process relies on the formation of an RNA duplex, which can occur in two pathways. Firstly, dsRNA can form in an endogenous manner due to the presence of non coding regulatory RNA called micro (mi)RNA. miRNAs were discovered in the early 2000s as a result of Fire and Mello s work, and they function as important post transcriptional ... The possibilities are endless as many things can be done and many doctors are foreshadowing them as possibilities. A future where having bionic eyes would make you superhuman? How? Well, light comes in different wavelengths and humans can only see the visible spectrum made of colored light. If a bionic eye could let us see the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to gamma waves we d be able to see heat, identify types of gases by sight, and even look through walls. In a future of humans with a computer in their eyes bionic eyes will be an ongoing topic of the future. With a camera as an eye, humans will be able to do things like: zoom in and out like a camera lens, have UV vision, record what we see, and even automatically be able to sync it to the net with our Wi Fi connected eyes. This is all just speculation but there s no denying that this type of technology as innovative as it is, is going to turn science fiction into reality one day. These techniques are the use of an angled dipole and vertical copper plates arranged on the ground plane for improvement in the radiation pattern of lower and upper bands, respectively radiation profile in both bands, namely similar gain, wide beamwidth. One of the popular techniques for broadening the patch antenna bandwidth is to incorporate a U slot on its surface. There are some classes of ultra wideband reflector antennas, such as planar, corner, and parabolic cylinder reflector antennas. In these reflector antennas, the planar reflector antenna is the simplest and yet most practical design. Principle of the planar reflector antenna is image theory. • 34. The Utilization Of Prescription Drug The utilization of prescription drug has increased in recent times. The availability of these medications has resulted in the treatment of numerous infections and ailments. These drugs alleviate chronic pain, depression and anxiety, sleep apnea, and much more. For an efficient health system, the main goal is to provide quality health care to all patients. However, over the years, there have been many legal and health controversies over drugs and the effects that they have on the body. The process of prescription drug starts from a lab and ultimately sojourns with the end user. The drugs undergo testing and are often developed to treat a specific disease before being reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Healthcare organizations use formulary systems in order to efficiently dispense prescription drugs. According to Steiner (2014), a formulary system is an ongoing process whereby healthcare organization establishes policies regarding the use of drugs. This system also identifies the best medically appropriate and cost effective drugs to best serve patients. The process of this method includes a list of drugs approved by healthcare professionals. Some of the issues involved in implementing formulary systems stem from legal challenges such as anti substituting or generic substituting laws, federal and state drug laws, and trademark laws (Steiner, 2014). It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into the net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete might end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might take the three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that shot before. These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in sports, is so important it can completely change the outcome of the game. Sports Psychology has become more and more influential in understanding how to play the game. Serious athletes are now training their mind just as much as they train their body. They have found that to be a champion, it now takes more than just being fit and having talent. The Building Blocks Of Successful Leadership Essay 4 The building blocks of successful leadership pipeline Despite the benefits listed above, leadership succession remains a cause of concern for a number of organisations. DDI s Global Leadership Forecast from 2011 showed how only 38% of participating leaders said the quality of leadership within their organisation is either very good or excellent. More importantly, only 18% of HR professionals in the same survey felt the organisations have a strong bench to respond to future needs. In order to make the most of the leadership pipeline model, organisations must also focus on the following four elements. A simple system with buy in from the senior leadership team The focus should be on creating a clear and simple pipeline framework. The more complex the program, the more it risks failing at some point. If the organisation is able to reduce the bureaucracy required to run the system, then it ensures the system is based on clarity and effectiveness. One way to remove complexity from the system is by narrowing its focus. The processes used must be focused on the actual objectives and needs of the organisation. There s no reason to add broadness by creating a far reaching process when there is no need for it. The scope is at its best when it doesn t focus on every person within the organisation, but narrows the effort down towards a few key players. Furthermore, it s important to ensure the system is flexible enough to respond the changing needs within the organisation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
