Hydrogen Extraction Process For The Recovery Of Heavy Oil...
Abstract
Vapor extraction process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen was originally proposed by Dr.
Butler during 1989 1991. Since its evolution, vapor extraction has emerged as a very effective and
promising technique mainly due to its environment friendly nature and cost effectiveness as compared
to other recovery techniques. Vapex is basically an in situ recovery process which injects a vaporized
hydrocarbon solvent in the injection well to reduce the viscosity the heavy oil and bitumen and allows
it to drain out of the production well through gravity drainage. Mass transfer of vaporized solvent to
heavy oil and the gravity drainage are the key parameters which mainly determine the production rate
of heavy oil and bitumen with reduced viscosity. This report provides a brief idea about the current
heavy oil and bitumen deposits in Canada, a better insight of the Vapex process and the factors which
affect the efficiency of the process. Several factors that scale up the performance of the process and
important limitations are also indentified that need further research for future growth of the process.
INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Energy is the most important factor for growth and development. Petroleum being the primary source
of energy can be categorized into conventional and non conventional forms based on the viscosity and
API gravity. Heavy oil and Bitumen are the non conventional forms of energy which are often referred
as oil sands or tar sands having high

Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay
Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in
an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency,
decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of
health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an
important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is
very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite
considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics
health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now
kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical
history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of
medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow
patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email
access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of
information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake,

The Mystery Of The Vampire
The vampire is the popular character in folklore from early civilization to modern life. The vampire
appears in people mind with the passion of immortality, fear, love and mystery. People are attracted
with vampire because the superstition of the vampire has done for centuries. Are they real? What are
they? Where they come from? There are a few of thousand questions about the beliefs of vampire
during many centuries. People don t stop their curiosity with vampire the legend that emulates the
world cultures and religions. One of the most important reason that made vampire still popular until
today is the great transformation. During the time, with the creative of human, vampire reforms to fit
with modern age. According to the Jung and the Jungians on Myth , Steven Walke implies myth is a
metaphor and come from the collective of human psyche. People use vampire as the tools to explain
human thinking. Therefore, the charging in the thinking of people in different period of time will
effect to the symbol of vampire. The research will explain the transformation of vampire by diving to
three main topics: the vampire in the historical and religion thinking; the charging of vampire in
literature and movie; the symbol of vampire in modern people thinking. Although three main topics
seem separately, these connect and develop other idea like cause and effect. Depend on the
information of history, the image of vampire in novel become reality. From the idea of vampire in

Lady Macbeth s Assassination Of King Duncan
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, lady Macbeth is mostly responsible for the murder of
King Duncan. Although, Macbeth killed the king it was lady Macbeth s manipulation towards her
husband Macbeth which made him murder King Duncan. Lady Macbeth ridiculed Macbeth that he
will not be a man unless he commits this immoral act. Lady Macbeth s greed also plays a tremendous
role in the murder of king Duncan as she wants to become the Queen and have more power. Lady
Macbeth is also very persistent to achieve that title. Therefore, Lady Macbeth is most responsible for
the assassination of King Duncan because she ridicules Macbeth, she is very manipulative and she is
persistent in her efforts to become Queen.

Organizational Culture at Chrysler
Organizational culture
Organizational culture can loosely be defined as the shared assumptions, beliefs, and normal behaviors
(norms) of a group. These are powerful influences on the way people live and act, and they define
what is normal and how to sanction those who are not normal. To a large degree, what we do is
determined by our culture.
Organizational culture is similar to, say, regional culture. The same person in different organizations
(or parts of the same organization) would act in different ways.
Culture is very powerful. (One example is the cultural change effort at British Airways, which
transformed an unprofitable airline with a poor reputation into a paragon of politeness and profit).
An example: Cultural change at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than have a small number of people control new products, Jeep/Truck product manager Jeff
Trimmer said planners were speaking out for customer wants and needs in the initial stages...and
working along with each of the various functional groups...The role becomes more advisory. Everyone
who would be involved participated to harness the best ideas and creativity.
Even the assembly line workers were included; with the new Ram trucks, they were working with
engineers six months before production started. Mechanics were consulted early, to help prepare the
cars and trucks for real life maintenance.
Product teams followed vehicles through their development to identify systems and process issues.
Today, we feel we have a lot more facts, and more of a groundswell of information that comes from
groups of people who know exactly what we re trying to do, reported Robert Johnson of Dodge
Trucks.
Agreeing on Objectives
One change which helps to keep projects pure is setting down objectives clearly, at the beginning.
Core objectives were agreed on at the beginning by all parties; because Everybody agrees up front and
we stick to the plan, (Bernard Robertson, Jeep/Truck team), there were no last minute changes in
focus, which can result in expensive disasters (such as the Corvair, Vega, and Fiero). Because
everyone was involved in setting goals, they took responsibility for living up to them.

A Series Of Biochemical Tests
A series of biochemical tests were conducted in order to determine the identity of an unknown gram
negative bacterium. The unknown had the potential to be one of six different gram negative bacteria:
Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella
pneumonia, or Salmonella typhirmurium. After using the T streak method to isolate pure colonies and
confirming the gram negative nature of the unknown bacterium the unknown was subjected to seven
biochemical tests and the results compared to the results of the six known bacteria for the same tests.
After performing the Triple Sugar Iron Agar Test, Sulfur Indole Motility Test, Methyl Red Test, Voges
Proskauer Test, Citrate Test, Urease Test, and Gelatin Test it was confirmed that identity of Unknown
#15 was Salmonella typhirmurium.
While all bacteria retain basic qualities identifying them as prokaryotes they do not function, grow, or
even metabolize in the same way. These differences distinguish bacterial species from one another,
like a thumb print identifies a single individual from every other person on earth. Testing for these
unique factors through a series of biochemical tests and staining techniques allows for an unknown
bacterial strain s thumb print to be generated. From there the unknown s thumb print can be compared
to the thumb print of known bacterial species allowing for identification.
The first step in identification is performing a Gram Stain. Due to the fact

Early Entrance Of The National Football League Draft
Early Entrance: The Road to the National Football League Draft A recent article in the Wall Street
Journal written in March 2014 discusses why underclassmen were suddenly leaving in droves for the
NFL draft. A picture on the front depicts Johnny Manziel who decided to leave Texas A M after his
redshirt sophomore season. The article states, Throughout the offices and film rooms of NFL teams,
the whispers are building: This may be the deepest NFL draft ever. It also may be the one that ruins
college football (Clark, 2014). A modification in the NFL s collective bargaining agreement with its
players, which was signed in 2011, is being accused for a shift so dramatic, some within the game
worry that the talent and recruiting of college football could possibly never be the same. The point
Clark (2014) is trying to get across is that players are rushing to drop out of college early to start their
professional careers. According to the article, in the 2014 NFL draft there were 98 underclassmen, a
34% increase from 2013 and an 85% increase from 2010, the year before the latest collective
bargaining agreement. The average age of an NFL player last season was 26 years 308 days, the
youngest since 1987 (Clark, 2014). Since the late 1980s, players who are three years out of high
school have been eligible to enter the draft. For the first few decades when underclassmen were
permitted in the draft, teams paid massive amounts of money on the top pick players who were then

Writing Is The First Nonmilitary Course I Have Taken
Writing 101 is the first nonmilitary course I have taken in the last 10 years. The reason I elected to
take writing 101 was twofold. There is the obvious reason which is of course, that I need to complete
this class to move forward with my educational goals in getting my bachelor s degree. The second
reason is that I have always had a great interest in writing both from view point of the writer and that
of the reader. I have spent the last 17 years reading and writing many different products for the Navy
from instructions to messages, each having their own unique format and purpose. The military style of
writing is very different from how we write in the civilian world; each one has their place but I find
that writing nonmilitary works are more enjoyable, yes even the academic papers. When I first started
the WRTG 101 class my writing and sentence structure skills were rusty to say the least. Now at the
end of the writing 101 class I can say that my writing and sentence skill levels have improved but by
no measure the best they can be.
Using an unfamiliar format and tools was an interesting obstacle to overcome to say the least but not
the end point of what I learned in this course. The Communications Fitness or COMFIT website was a
great tool I liked that it took you many different directions to help you understand a topic. The two
topics I can say that COMFIT really helped with were commas and colons and semicolons. The
examples and tests helped me better understand

A time management system is a designed combination of processes, tools, techniques, and methods.
Usually time management is a necessity in any project development as it determines the project
completion time and scope.
In business, time management has morphed into everything from methodologies such as Enterprise
Resource Planning through consultant services such as Professional Organizers. When we think of
time management, however, we tend to think of personal time management, loosely defined as
managing our time to waste less time on doing the things we have to do so we have more time to do
the things we want to do. Therefore, time management is often thought of or presented as a set of time
management skills; the theory is that once we master the time management skills, we ll be more
organized, efficient, and happier. There are an abundance of books, classes, workshops, day planners,
and seminars on time management, which teach individuals and corporations how to be more
organized and more productive. Time management has become crucial in recent years thanks to the
24/7, busy world in which we live.
Time management is important for everyone. While time management books and seminars often place
their focus on business leaders and corporations, time management is also crucial for students,
teachers, factory workers, professionals, and home makers. Time management is perhaps most
essential for the person who owns his or her own business or who runs a

Jose Garcia Villa s Footnote To Youth
The short story Footnotes to Youth , written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a young
boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then the
obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life. This goes
for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household
chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became miserable after
having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text Footnotes to Youth , it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is applied
in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the characters of
the story had inner feelings within them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thought that life had been made ugly for him after his marriage to Teang. Teang felt the same, as
she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when
Blas told his father, Dodong, about his proposal to Tona. Dodong couldn t believe that his son was
doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give his
blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found
that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the short
story Footnotes to Youth , it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in Dodong
s mind, as he constantly dreamt of her day and night. He desired her, and wanted to marry her. Tona
was the anima in Blas mind as well. The statement he gave to his father, Dodong, that he wanted her,
suggested that he had a sense of possessiveness within

Tenet Healthcare Case Study
In the early history, Tenet Healthcare originated from a company named American Medical
International (AMI), which was purchased by National Medical Enterprises (NME) in 1995. Between
the 1970s through 1985, NME grew its presence by focusing on acute care facilities and specialty
facilities, such as nursing homes, substance abuse facilities, rehabilitation services and psychiatric
hospitals. In fact, about 40% of NME s $587 million of operating profits were generated from
psychiatric hospitals. However, NME was sued for fraudulent overbilling in the early 1990 s.
Subsequently, NME pled guilty to the charges and had to sell all of its psychiatric facilities. NME
changed its name to Tenet after acquiring AMI and refocused to specialize on only acute care hospital
operations. Hence, Tenet grew from 70 hospitals in 1995 to 144 hospitals in Southern ... Show more

Survive Cheer Practice
How to Survive Cheer Practice
Cheerleading practice can be harder than someone might think, whether you are new to cheer or if you
have been doing it all your life. Just getting through conditioning can tire the body out. Also, all those
chants and dances can fill the brain up to the brim. Memorizing all of them takes practice. Here are
some ways to survive cheer practice. First, before practice even starts try not to eat to much. Bingeing
on fatty foods before practice can cause severe consequences during practice, like vomiting. Try to eat
a healthy snack, like a banana or an apple. A banana before a workout will help keeps nutrient levels
high. They keep the body energized for a long period of time; unlike sugar which only gives a buzz of
energy for a couple of minutes and then tires the body out. Remember to also pack a snack for after
practice. A recommended post workout snack from fitnessdaily.com is a healthy sandwich on whole ...

Reflection On Clinical Placement
DESCRIPTION During my clinical placement, I have done the nursing standard 2 which is engaging
in therapeutic and professional relationships. An example of one event in my placement where I have
done this standard is when doing interviews in my two week community placement at the Community
Rehabilitation in Armadale Hospital. For my reflection, I will be using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle
(1988). FEELINGS I am normally a very shy person so when we were told that we were to do
interviews on the first day of my community placement I felt scared. I did not know how to approach
people confidently let alone do an interview. I knew I could do it but I was not confident enough. I
was already feeling overwhelmed because it was my first time to be placed in a hospital.
EVALUATION The good thing in my experience would be that I got to have the experience of doing
interviews and I actually enjoyed it. I also gained more confidence in interacting with my patients. The
not so good thing would be that I have gained confidence in talking to my patients but not the staff or
the people I was working with. I was still very shy in communicating with them. ANALYSIS I have
learnt to do interviews during my placement. Because I took that step out of my comfort zone I
believe that I have learnt a lot. I have learnt to take a step out of my shell and try. I have learnt that it is
not worth getting worked up over doing interviews and talking to people, as it will be a major part of

Essay about Folic Acid Supplementation and Pregnancy
Scope of the Research Proposal
The purpose of this study is to analyze the preventative effects of folic acid supplementation during
preconception and pregnancy in women. Folic acid supplementation is a standard recommendation
among a variety of vitamins and minerals during preconception and is said to prevent congenital
defects, primarily neural tube defects in children. However, various studies suggest that folic acid
supplementation is not directly correlated with the prevention of neural tube defects, but other factors
such as socioeconomic status, healthcare, and education come into play (Banhidy, 2011). The use of
folic acid to prevent neural tube defects is widely accepted and recommended by health professionals

However, the weakness of the study was that the mothers were not picked at random and some were
voluntary participants. This factor may have affected the study since the volunteer mothers may have
practiced healthy behaviors prior to the data collection, such as prenatal care and avoiding unhealthy
lifestyle habits. With these factors, it is unclear if FA supplementation has a direct impact on the
lowered risk of NTDs (Li, et al., 2013). Another study analyzed a different portion of FA
supplementation effects. The preventative effects of FA supplementation were evaluated and
estimated. Pregnant women with malformed fetuses and women who had healthy babies, with or
without FA supplementation, were studied. Based on the data that was gathered, the assumed
beneficial effects of supplementation against congenital abnormalities are clear, but other factors may
have a role in the perceived effects. It was concluded that FA supplementation in women before
pregnancy lowers the risk of congenital abnormalities, but socioeconomic status and medical care
were not taken into account during the study, possibly skewing the results (Banhidy, et al., 2011).
Other studies found very similar results in terms of lowered risk of congenital abnormalities with FA
supplementation. A study reported that FA supplementation in early pregnancy reduces the risk of

Callaway Golf Case Essay
Summary: In 1998, Callaway, one of the most famous brands in the golf domain, has experienced its
first loss of $ 27 million after 10 years of growth. To resolve this problem, Ely Callaway, the founder
of this company, wondered if CGC (Callaway Golf Company) would have to revise the way it

confusion, should the communication strategy shift? In fall 1999, Callaway faced amount of

as a professional sign. So there is difficulty for the new brand to threaten Callaway s current market.
Power of suppliers:
1. As the case mentioned, Callaway adjusted the wholesale prices of Big Bertha metal woods rather
infrequently because they are confident in their own products with so many efforts on budget and R D.
They strongly believed that after using the products, customers would understand and accept the
reason why their products prices were higher than others .
2. Callaway spent lots of money on R D, and that was why the prices were higher. So, for beginning
golf customers, buying new Callaway clubs was a daunting task, even if Callaway s target market

A Crucifixion Outside The City Of Jerusalem
This painting depicts a crucifixion outside the city of Jerusalem, discernible by the centrally planned
church and rounded red rotunda in the background of the city. Rounded structures that resemble
towers align the walls of the city, another definitive element of the biblical city. Although the painting
clearly represents an idealized Jerusalem, it emulates a contemporary European town of the Northern
Renaissance age, with Gothic architecture and what resembles shops at the front of the city. The
painter also depicts the mountainous terrain of Jerusalem, but portrays greenery that the actual desert
city would not have. The contemporary background makes the painting less abstract and more
relatable to the viewer. The overall composition of the painting is naturalistic: emphasized by the light
and shadow on the figures, the use of three dimensions, and the additional details in the clothes of the
figures. The body on the cross demonstrates the most amount of modeling. The face and legs of the
person are covered by shadow, while the light hits the left side of the body at the chest the most. Also,
there is an attention to showcasing three dimensions: the objects towards the back of the painting get
smaller, while the objects in the front are larger. The three dimensions frame the picture, and create a
sense of directly looking into the scene from a front viewer. Lastly, the folding and drapery of the
clothing accentuate the naturalism of the painting by looking similar to

The Greed In Edith Wharton s The House Of Mirth
Throughout society, people tend to have something that they are obsessed with, and willing to do
anything for. Some people fawn over power, and those who possess it, attempting to join their forces
in the hopes of syphoning off some of that power for themselves. Others focus on wealth, and the
ability to be control the economic wealth of everyone around you. Some may feel that they are
obsessed with love, attempting to find the perfect person to spend the rest of their life with. In Edith
Wharton s The House of Mirth, the character of Lily focuses on love, which is the main reason for her
downfall throughout the story. Through this character, Edith Wharton attempts to convey to the reader

She was able to see many inferior humans be looked at as lesser people solely because of who they
were, and not due to some legitimate factor. As a woman, she experienced this herself. Throughout her
life, despite being a very good poet and writer, she was forced to write under an alias, due to a woman
writer looking improper for the time. Her family, despite supporting her, still wanted to make sure that
the family name was not besmirched with a potential scandal resulting from their daughter s writing.
As time went on and people slowly began to get rid of their Social Darwinism ways, she was able to
write as herself, and eventually was rewarded for her writings, winning a Pulitzer Prize as well as
being nominated multiple times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Despite all that she was able to do
for women during her time, she still could see the problems that women had to face, being unable to
make all of the decisions that a man could make at the time, and not being as well recognized for her
success. Even during her successes, much help was needed to obtain the awards, as some people did
not believe that she was worthy, due to her being a woman. Throughout her life, Edith Wharton faced
many of the issues that Lily Barth faced, and that resulted in a better understanding of the Social

Whether it is an experience in which they face that day, or it is something that they hear, it will always
stay with them as the greatest moment in their life. In Looking for Alaska the characters talk about
their best and worst days in a drinking game made up by Alaska. To these characters, their best days
are with them all and each one has a special meaning to them. For Miles, he takes a brief moment to
think about it, then starts saying how his best day was the same day they played the game. He
described how everything that he did that day involved being with his new friends from Culver Creek.
To Miles, this is clearly his best day because he came to realize that he finally has friends he can rely
on and that he is not invisible to classmates, like he felt in Florida. For these characters, the best days
have helped them live their lives better and pickup them up when they are down. With every best day
in someone s life comes with a worst day. Worst days will make you sad for a length of time and you
will feel hopeless during these stretches of time. People will come to see that worst days will involve
the death of a loved one in a family. There were two instances of this for characters in Looking for
Alaska. Alaska had a terrible loss of someone very close to her. After her and her mother went to the
zoo, Alaska went upstairs to do homework so she could watch TV later at night. She heard her mother
scream then fall down on the floor, where she held her head and started jerking around. Alaska freaked
out and thought that she should have called 911 but she laid there crying and figured her mother had
fallen asleep and waited for her father to come home. Her father came home and started yelling at her
and asked why she did not call 911 and tried to give her CPR, but it was too late. This event in Alaska
s life plays major roles in why she does things that she does. Worst days in people s lives are

Ginsberg And The Beat Generation
The Beat Generation was gleaned from the way we heard the world beat spoken on street corners on
Times Square and in other cities in the downtown city night of postwar America beat, meaning down
and out but full of conviction (qtd. in Beat) according to Jack Kerouac, a past American Beats
novelist. Kerouac expresses the aroma of melancholia that followed the end of World War II. In came
a sense of fear for the technological innovation made towards nuclear warfare. Because of this, the
years following became a time of conformity and artistic suppression. Poets like Allen Ginsberg
emerged from the shadows and started to shed a new light on the meaning of life and a free mind. This

Allen Ginsberg, one of the most innovative poets of the age, characterized his poetry as the desire to
be [...] in a time of apathy (Tytell, 313). Howl, Ginsberg s most esteemed piece of work, surprised the
majority of readers due to its vulgarity and explicit content. The urban settings across the United
States greatly influence beatniks in writing about the environment of post World War II. This new
mindset of free spirit allowed Ginsberg to explore new, but vulnerable subjects that may cause one to
cringe. The literary experience present in Howl allow[ed] an individual to discover his own
vulnerability, his humanness, without cowering (Tytell, 313). This was an important theme that
encourage artistic development in the midst of conformity and bleakness. In the first line of his poem,
he mentions how he saw the best minds of [his] generation destroyed by [the] madness (ln 1) of
materialism and pressure of technological advancement. The free spirited lifestyle that hipsters
promoted distracted many authors and writers into getting hooked on drugs, sex and alcohol, which
are main topics Ginsberg discusses throughout the poem. Through his writings, Ginsberg strives to
exorcise the shame, guilt and far that he [saw] as barriers to self realization and total being (Tytell

creative potency in an age of silence. For example, Howls presents a range of tones ranging from
severe anguish to uncontainable excitement. This literary aspect of his poems provided a way for
readers to retain the ability to feel in numbing times [...] in the face of materialistic culture (Tytell

Economic Growth Essay
Economic Growth Economic growth refers to the rate of increase in the total production of goods and
services within an economy. Economic growth increases the productivity capacity of an economy,
thereby allowing more wants to be satisfied. A growing economy increases employment opportunities,
stimulates business enterprise and innovation. A sustained economic growth is fundamental to any
nation wishing to raise its standard of living and provide a greater well being for all. Gross domestic
product (GDP) is the monetary value of all final goods and services produced over a year. It is the

Real GDP is measured by the following formula; [(current year quantity) x (based year price)]. A more
reliable measure of economic growth is real GDP per capita; this measurement takes into account both
the total production of the nation and the total population. Real GDP per capita measures the real
income per head of the population.
This can be measured by the following formula; Per capita nominal GDP = Nominal GDP /
Population, Per capita real GDP = Real GDP / Population. Seven factors determine economic growth.
Natural resources such as land, mineral deposits, waterways; climatic conditions provide an essential
foundation to economic growth. Combined with the other resources of capital, labor and enterprises,
natural resources can be developed and organized to increase the productive capacity if the nation.
Consequently the quality and size of the labor force is a major determinant of economic growth.
Education and vocational training are essential the growth potential of a nation. The promotion of
education and job training schemes increase the knowledge, skills and flexibility of the workforce that
contributes to potentially higher levels of productivity and efficiency. Whether from natural increase

The Negative Effects Of Pornography
With the surge of wider spread accessibility to the internet on mobile phones and laptops comes a
surge in the accessibility and viewing of pornography. Much research has been done to study how
such an increase in pornography consumption is impacting the marriage relationship. Some findings
have indicated that users incur serious negative effects, including a 25% higher divorce rate, are 101%
more likely to be unfaithful to a spouse, and were 12% less likely to describe their marriage as very
happy (Doran Price, 2014). Interestingly, various studies have also noted that the effects may be
different for men than they are for women, stating that for women who viewed pornography in ranges
between 2 3 times a month and once a day or more, their marital quality was actually higher than
those who never viewed pornography... (Perry, 2017). Considering such contradictory findings, it can
be difficult for couples to know how pornography use plays into a healthy marriage, if it does at all.
Pornography use, at the very least, has been shown to create conflict and stress between spouses if the
non using partner is more religious or has negative views surrounding pornography. Is has also been
linked with lower self esteem in women. The affects of this activity must be viewed not only through
an individual lens, but through a couple s view. Taking such a view may reveal that regardless of the
empirical outcomes of porn use, perceptions, even, can have a serious negative impact

Education can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 8 years, depending on what allied health profession is

as 8 weeks but not longer than 2 year. This choice is typically economical for minorities, however, the
question remains as to whether job security outweighs the low income an allied health position often

Professional growth is most certainly important to individuals in any allied health profession. Often,

How Did Jp Morgan Help The Government Out Of The Panic Of...
In the 1890 s, J.P Morgan was famous for helping the government out of the Panic of 1893. While
doing this, he made a lot of extra money in the process. This caused a lot of negative controversy in
the public, and the people began to doubt the government s liability. From the book Grover Cleveland,
a Study of Courage, the author comments, hard handed Americans believed that Cleveland... had sold
the credit of the republic to the Morgans... and had pocketed a share of the price. Their vituperative
anger was additional evidence of a sectional and class bitterness (Nevins 665). This shows the side of

What Morgan was doing was using his power to gain control of all railways and, this resulted in
stopping other companies from trading along these railroads. This made companies very upset, and
that the fact that this entire incident was illegal forced Morgan to close one of his companies down. As
a middle class citizen, this would make you wary of all of Morgan s other monopolies also, because if
he almost got away with one illegal act, what else could he do? On another note, Morgan dominated
certain insurance companies, and was again using his power and wealth to end up making the people
pay for his expenses. In an article discussing this, They[Morgan s company] had $50 million a year to
invest money given by ordinary people for their insurance policies . This is just another example of
how J.P Morgan used other people s money for his own self. If you begin to think in the public
mindset, the phrase, They control the people through the people s own money , begins to make sense.
This all connects to a political cartoon showing Morgan controlling a machine labeled Wall Street that
was controlling the people s money and forcing an American citizen to work for the company at the
same time. Overall, Morgan used tactics that were only for himself, and negatively impacted society.

freely between each other. Currently the EU is facing a serious economic crisis; it is trapped in a cycle

independence they would have played a key role in ensuring the EU obtained some form of recovery.
If Scotland was a member of the EU they would benefit from free movement of goods and services
allowing Scotland to trade with other member states. As a result other member states would have
access to Scotland s oil reserves and would be able to reduce its dependency on importing oil from
countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan who are all non members and would be selling oil

Taking a Look at the Earth s Biosphere
The Earth s biosphere is considered to be the most inclusive layer on the planet; simply put, the
biosphere is where life happens. What makes the biosphere so exceptional is the fact that there is no
record of life existing anywhere else in space. All of the organisms that inhibit the biosphere impact it
in some way. However, humans have the largest impact on the biosphere through the means of
industrialization, reproduction, and consumption. As with all of the other organisms inhibiting the
biosphere, humans have basic needs in order to thrive. We need habitats, protection, reproductive
success, and sustenance. However, unlike other organisms, we have proclivities that span beyond the
essential tools needed to survive. We have the unique gift of insight, and with it, the ability to innovate
beyond the parameters of any other species on the planet. From the use of fire to the invention of the

trying to offend minorities and such Is funny just for the sake of comedy. But instead of trying to get
rid of that type of Comedy people should talk with their wallet instead. If they don t like it they should
not endorse that person and move on with their lives. Although they might not like it their are others
that do. As with any opinion our country we are gifted with the freedom of speech we are allowed to
speak and have any opinion that we choose no matter how Controversial. But certain countries such as
Canada do not seem to share the same opinion as us. Where comedians have been fined for making
offensive jokes directed towards certain people. Such is the case of Mike Ward a Comedian fined $42k

How Lomax and Fellow Prisoners are Treated Essay
How Lomax and Fellow Prisoners are Treated
In this essay I will be looking at ways in which Lomax conveys how he and his fellow prisoners are
treated here in this passage from the book. To show evidence of this I will select quotes which show
choices of form, style, vocabulary and narrative viewpoint. Overall I aim to highlight the ways in
which the attitudes and values are conveyed to the reader.
Lomax Perfectly describes his transition from a P.O.W camp to Outram
Gail. What our captors were in fact doing was consigning us to a lower circle of hell . This extremely
poignant statement shows use of imagery in a way that stands out to the reader. He uses lower circle of
hell , which is a simile to emphasize the absurdity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mostly from the viewpoint of Lomax now, as an old man who can look back and comment on
it with toned down emotion and consideration.
Moving on to the use of adjectives which Lomax has liberally used throughout the first paragraph we
get the impression that there was no pre meditated violence or planned torture, it was just neglect of
the most damaging kind. some of his colleagues were bored, slovenly and brutal . Both bored and
slovenly are adjectives that describe well the casual attitude of the guards. I would imagine that the
attitudes of these guards were strongly disliked by Lomax morals. He doesn t believe in laziness, to
him every thing must have a purpose and he likes to carefully consider and plan any thing he does. I
cannot imagine that this lax, thoughtless behaviour impressed him much.
Further on in the second paragraph there is more evidence of imagery, and how Lomax uses it to good
effect. cradling those frail creatures of skin and bone in his own emaciated arms . This comes across
strongly in many ways; firstly he is implying that these creatures have taken on a kind of sub human
form through their illness and horrific neglect and deprivation. Secondly the man looking after them is
also rather emaciated . A rather juxtaposed statement as the carer is almost as weak and sick as whom
he is caring for. The descriptive

Chinese Business Culture
The Chinese culture is very different than the culture in the United States of America and business
meetings require preplanning if they are going to be successful. * How should you handle the
introduction, greeting, and handshaking?
Although in the Chinese culture, a nod and slight bow is a general way of greeting, Chinese business
men are comfortable with a handshake. Address the most Senior Chinese person in the room first, and
introduce yourself as you shake hands. Remember that in the Chinese culture it is a sign of respect if
they shake your hand softly and do not make eye contact. In Chine, the family name comes before the
given name, and calling someone by his name is considered disrespectful unless you are close to the ...

Exchanging gifts is appropriate and well thought of in the Chinese Culture. When you present gifts,
always give them to your guest in the order the guests were introduced to you. Seniority is very
important. Be prepared to present a modest fit at the first meeting. Give the gifts to everyone in
attendance at the meeting. * How will you begin business discussions?
When you begin your first meeting, expect the first conversations to be personal. Take the time to get
to know your Chinese counterpart and allow them time to get to know you. Remember that the
Chinese have a rich culture and they are proud of their historical background. Taking the time to build
a personal relationship can result in a stronger business relationship. (Chinese Business Etiquette,
2014) * What should not be brought up in business discussions?
Negative topics should not be brought up in business meetings. Good topics of personal conversation
include the weather, hobbies and positive experiences you have had in China. (Business Meeting,
2014) * Is there anything else you should prepare for?
Chinese people do not like to be touched. Do not hug, tap, back slap or lock arms with Chinese
business people. Burping and slurping soup are acceptable during meals.

Why Is Social Media Good Or Bad
Have you ever had a good or bad experience with social media? Have you ever been a part of a protest
that was started on social media? I think that social media is a good thing because you can have so
much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids in your
neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with or they do
not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently I have found
some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without social media I
would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and have no one to
talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho they live far away.
Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind of person you are and
if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it
and you can make friends. Things like Facebook are so convenient to talk with friends or family
without that we would need to call them and that is just so much harder to do then ... Show more

But you can aways friend you child on Facebook to protect them. Even tho they know what to do to be
safe online and what to do if something bad hapens but the odds of that happening is very small. Also
people think that social media is a waste of time but that is not true becuse you can learn so much
online and find so many cool and interesting things about things you did not even know existed. Also
you can buy things online so you do not have to go look for it in a store and have it not be there which
is a big waste of time. With the web you can buy things that you know they have and it comes right to
you. Al you have to do is wait for it to come to your house and that is

Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue
Isaiah Tuppince
Mr. Greer
English 2
October 21st, 2015
Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can they
reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right now and I
believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing
technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin
Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the well being of a
person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong when right can be done, especially
when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so
keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that
animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options are
available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for
Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program that was designed to begin vitro testing. This
program was established by Johns Hopkins. The CAAT was created in 1988 and funded by more than
70 corporations (Hunter). These corporations funded this program to change animal testing a find
alternative ways to test drugs other than on animals. Millions of dollars were given to this program by
these corporations to

Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
This essay will evaluate the presentation of Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance in the
world of social psychology. Throughout I will discuss the establishment of his theory, it s supporting
evidence and any limitations of this. I will also deliberate what it can explain and the alternative
explanations presented by other psychologists; how they differ from Festinger s, how they add to
Festinger s original theory and finally how they extend the knowledge in understanding the interaction
between thoughts and actions to question the position of rivalry over cohesion between them all.
The theory of cognitive dissonance was introduced by Leon Festinger in 1957, a time where many
claimed social psychology had lost the social aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is regarded as a counterintuitive social theory as it implied that actions influenced attitudes as
opposed to the alternative notion, once seen as the more reasonable, (Miller J. L., 2012). His theory of
cognitive dissonance is still referenced today in numerous credible and published work either in
support of the theory or to suggest revisions, (Dember Jenkins, 1970) cited from Cognitive
Dissonance Theory (n.d.), revealing a lasting impact.
Social psychologist Herbert C. Kelman (1953) first investigated cognitive dissonance through the
consequences of forced compliance and hypothesised the opposite of his data findings, which revealed
that counter attitudinal advocacy occurred more often in low reward circumstances in comparison to
higher reward.
Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959), similarly followed to find supporting evidence of the
cognitive dissonance theory. They conducted an experiment in the U.S. concerning the cognitive
consequence of forced compliance and found similar results. The study involved 71 male participants
where they were given two monotonous tasks of filling a tray and turning 48 pegs clockwise, both
with one hand and for half an hour each. The participants where split into groups, where one received
one dollar for their time and the other received twenty dollars. Both low reward and high reward
groups where then asked to recommend the experiment to future participants, who were secretly
confederates.

The Disease Of Common Diseases
Common diseases such as diabetes, cancer, autism, and age related macular degeneartion effect
substantial number of people. Understanding of genetic causes of these diseases will provide
fundamental insight for preventing, diagnosing, and eventually curing these diseases. In the past few
decades, more than a thousand of rare Mendelian diseases causative genes have been identified by
combination of linkage analysis with positional cloning (http://omim.org/). However, this strategy
does not have enough power as applied to common diseases, in which usually multiple genetic and
environmental risk factors contribute to disease development, and each risk factor only account for a
small fraction of the influences (Risch, 2000).
Thereafter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In GWAS, a set of sequence variants are used as genetic markers to discover disease associated
regions across the human genome, and subsequently to detect causative variants within these regions.
As relying on the assumption that the disease risk variants will be in linkage disequilibrium (LD) with
one of the marker variants tested, this strategy provides the potential to test any region and gene across
the genome for disease association. To apply GWAS, it is necessary to establish a human genetic
variant catalog with characterization of their allele frequencies and LD pattern among different
populations.
The first human genome sequence variation map with 1.42 million SNPs was created by the
international SNP Map Working Group in 2000 (Sachidanandam et al., 2001). The SNPs localize
either within or close to exons, and the map only described the information on the nearby genes and
other genomic features of the SNPs without characterizing their allele frequencies and LD patterns. It
was applied for linkage study, but not enough for association studies
Until 2002, the international HapMap consortium launched a project with aim to construct the first
comprehensive human genetic variant database to facilitate investigation of the genetic risk factors of
human diseases, especially common diseases (2003). The HapMap project consists of three phases
lasting from 2002 2009. The

  • 2. Hydrogen Extraction Process For The Recovery Of Heavy Oil... Abstract Vapor extraction process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen was originally proposed by Dr. Butler during 1989 1991. Since its evolution, vapor extraction has emerged as a very effective and promising technique mainly due to its environment friendly nature and cost effectiveness as compared to other recovery techniques. Vapex is basically an in situ recovery process which injects a vaporized hydrocarbon solvent in the injection well to reduce the viscosity the heavy oil and bitumen and allows it to drain out of the production well through gravity drainage. Mass transfer of vaporized solvent to heavy oil and the gravity drainage are the key parameters which mainly determine the production rate of heavy oil and bitumen with reduced viscosity. This report provides a brief idea about the current heavy oil and bitumen deposits in Canada, a better insight of the Vapex process and the factors which affect the efficiency of the process. Several factors that scale up the performance of the process and important limitations are also indentified that need further research for future growth of the process. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Energy is the most important factor for growth and development. Petroleum being the primary source of energy can be categorized into conventional and non conventional forms based on the viscosity and API gravity. Heavy oil and Bitumen are the non conventional forms of energy which are often referred as oil sands or tar sands having high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Health Information Technology ( Hit ) Essay Executive Summary: Health information technology (HIT) involves trading of health information in an electronic format to advance health care, reduce health expenditures, improve work efficiency, decrease medication errors, and make health care more accessible. Maintaining privacy and security of health information is crucial when technology is involved. Health information exchange plays an important role in improving the quality and delivery of health care and cost effectiveness. There is very little electronic information sharing among clinicians, hospitals, and other providers, despite considerable investments in health information technology (IT) over the past five years (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2014, p. 1). Per HeathIT.gov (https://www.healthit.gov/patients families/basics health it), HIT includes the following: 1. Electronic health records (EHRs): Medical records are now kept in an electronic versus a paper chart. All health information regarding past and current medical history, treatment plans, and medications are kept in the EHR. The system also allows sharing of medical information from provider to provider as needed. Many HER systems have a feature to allow patients to log into a patient portal to review lab results, diagnostic tests, plans of care, and email access to the provider 2. Personal health records (PHRs). PHRs allow patients to monitor and track of information from provider visits. PHR can also follow the trajectory of food intake, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lady Macbeth s Assassination Of King Duncan In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, lady Macbeth is mostly responsible for the murder of King Duncan. Although, Macbeth killed the king it was lady Macbeth s manipulation towards her husband Macbeth which made him murder King Duncan. Lady Macbeth ridiculed Macbeth that he will not be a man unless he commits this immoral act. Lady Macbeth s greed also plays a tremendous role in the murder of king Duncan as she wants to become the Queen and have more power. Lady Macbeth is also very persistent to achieve that title. Therefore, Lady Macbeth is most responsible for the assassination of King Duncan because she ridicules Macbeth, she is very manipulative and she is persistent in her efforts to become Queen. • 6. Organizational Culture at Chrysler Organizational culture Organizational culture can loosely be defined as the shared assumptions, beliefs, and normal behaviors (norms) of a group. These are powerful influences on the way people live and act, and they define what is normal and how to sanction those who are not normal. To a large degree, what we do is determined by our culture. Organizational culture is similar to, say, regional culture. The same person in different organizations (or parts of the same organization) would act in different ways. Culture is very powerful. (One example is the cultural change effort at British Airways, which transformed an unprofitable airline with a poor reputation into a paragon of politeness and profit). An example: Cultural change at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than have a small number of people control new products, Jeep/Truck product manager Jeff Trimmer said planners were speaking out for customer wants and needs in the initial stages...and working along with each of the various functional groups...The role becomes more advisory. Everyone who would be involved participated to harness the best ideas and creativity. Even the assembly line workers were included; with the new Ram trucks, they were working with engineers six months before production started. Mechanics were consulted early, to help prepare the cars and trucks for real life maintenance. Product teams followed vehicles through their development to identify systems and process issues. Today, we feel we have a lot more facts, and more of a groundswell of information that comes from groups of people who know exactly what we re trying to do, reported Robert Johnson of Dodge Trucks. Agreeing on Objectives One change which helps to keep projects pure is setting down objectives clearly, at the beginning. Core objectives were agreed on at the beginning by all parties; because Everybody agrees up front and we stick to the plan, (Bernard Robertson, Jeep/Truck team), there were no last minute changes in focus, which can result in expensive disasters (such as the Corvair, Vega, and Fiero). • 7. A Series Of Biochemical Tests A series of biochemical tests were conducted in order to determine the identity of an unknown gram negative bacterium. The unknown had the potential to be one of six different gram negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumonia, or Salmonella typhirmurium. After using the T streak method to isolate pure colonies and confirming the gram negative nature of the unknown bacterium the unknown was subjected to seven biochemical tests and the results compared to the results of the six known bacteria for the same tests. After performing the Triple Sugar Iron Agar Test, Sulfur Indole Motility Test, Methyl Red Test, Voges Proskauer Test, Citrate Test, Urease Test, and Gelatin Test it was confirmed that identity of Unknown #15 was Salmonella typhirmurium. While all bacteria retain basic qualities identifying them as prokaryotes they do not function, grow, or even metabolize in the same way. These differences distinguish bacterial species from one another, like a thumb print identifies a single individual from every other person on earth. Testing for these unique factors through a series of biochemical tests and staining techniques allows for an unknown bacterial strain s thumb print to be generated. From there the unknown s thumb print can be compared to the thumb print of known bacterial species allowing for identification. The first step in identification is performing a Gram Stain. • 8. Early Entrance Of The National Football League Draft Early Entrance: The Road to the National Football League Draft A recent article in the Wall Street Journal written in March 2014 discusses why underclassmen were suddenly leaving in droves for the NFL draft. A picture on the front depicts Johnny Manziel who decided to leave Texas A M after his redshirt sophomore season. The article states, Throughout the offices and film rooms of NFL teams, the whispers are building: This may be the deepest NFL draft ever. It also may be the one that ruins college football (Clark, 2014). A modification in the NFL s collective bargaining agreement with its players, which was signed in 2011, is being accused for a shift so dramatic, some within the game worry that the talent and recruiting of college football could possibly never be the same. The point Clark (2014) is trying to get across is that players are rushing to drop out of college early to start their professional careers. According to the article, in the 2014 NFL draft there were 98 underclassmen, a 34% increase from 2013 and an 85% increase from 2010, the year before the latest collective bargaining agreement. The average age of an NFL player last season was 26 years 308 days, the youngest since 1987 (Clark, 2014). Since the late 1980s, players who are three years out of high school have been eligible to enter the draft. • 9. Writing Is The First Nonmilitary Course I Have Taken Writing 101 is the first nonmilitary course I have taken in the last 10 years. The reason I elected to take writing 101 was twofold. There is the obvious reason which is of course, that I need to complete this class to move forward with my educational goals in getting my bachelor s degree. The second reason is that I have always had a great interest in writing both from view point of the writer and that of the reader. I have spent the last 17 years reading and writing many different products for the Navy from instructions to messages, each having their own unique format and purpose. The military style of writing is very different from how we write in the civilian world; each one has their place but I find that writing nonmilitary works are more enjoyable, yes even the academic papers. When I first started the WRTG 101 class my writing and sentence structure skills were rusty to say the least. Now at the end of the writing 101 class I can say that my writing and sentence skill levels have improved but by no measure the best they can be. Using an unfamiliar format and tools was an interesting obstacle to overcome to say the least but not the end point of what I learned in this course. The Communications Fitness or COMFIT website was a great tool I liked that it took you many different directions to help you understand a topic. The two topics I can say that COMFIT really helped with were commas and colons and semicolons. The examples and tests helped me better understand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A time management system is a designed combination of processes, tools, techniques, and methods. Usually time management is a necessity in any project development as it determines the project completion time and scope. In business, time management has morphed into everything from methodologies such as Enterprise Resource Planning through consultant services such as Professional Organizers. When we think of time management, however, we tend to think of personal time management, loosely defined as managing our time to waste less time on doing the things we have to do so we have more time to do the things we want to do. Therefore, time management is often thought of or presented as a set of time management skills; the theory is that once we master the time management skills, we ll be more organized, efficient, and happier. This goes for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. In fact, about 40% of NME s $587 million of operating profits were generated from psychiatric hospitals. However, NME was sued for fraudulent overbilling in the early 1990 s. • 16. Reflection On Clinical Placement DESCRIPTION During my clinical placement, I have done the nursing standard 2 which is engaging in therapeutic and professional relationships. An example of one event in my placement where I have done this standard is when doing interviews in my two week community placement at the Community Rehabilitation in Armadale Hospital. For my reflection, I will be using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988). FEELINGS I am normally a very shy person so when we were told that we were to do interviews on the first day of my community placement I felt scared. I did not know how to approach people confidently let alone do an interview. I knew I could do it but I was not confident enough. I was already feeling overwhelmed because it was my first time to be placed in a hospital. EVALUATION The good thing in my experience would be that I got to have the experience of doing interviews and I actually enjoyed it. I also gained more confidence in interacting with my patients. The not so good thing would be that I have gained confidence in talking to my patients but not the staff or the people I was working with. I was still very shy in communicating with them. ANALYSIS I have learnt to do interviews during my placement. Because I took that step out of my comfort zone I believe that I have learnt a lot. I have learnt to take a step out of my shell and try. I have learnt that it is not worth getting worked up over doing interviews and talking to people, as it will be a major part of my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Folic acid supplementation is a standard recommendation among a variety of vitamins and minerals during preconception and is said to prevent congenital defects, primarily neural tube defects in children. However, various studies suggest that folic acid supplementation is not directly correlated with the prevention of neural tube defects, but other factors such as socioeconomic status, healthcare, and education come into play (Banhidy, 2011). However, the weakness of the study was that the mothers were not picked at random and some were voluntary participants. This factor may have affected the study since the volunteer mothers may have practiced healthy behaviors prior to the data collection, such as prenatal care and avoiding unhealthy lifestyle habits. With these factors, it is unclear if FA supplementation has a direct impact on the lowered risk of NTDs (Li, et al., 2013). Another study analyzed a different portion of FA supplementation effects. The preventative effects of FA supplementation were evaluated and estimated. Pregnant women with malformed fetuses and women who had healthy babies, with or without FA supplementation, were studied. Based on the data that was gathered, the assumed beneficial effects of supplementation against congenital abnormalities are clear, but other factors may have a role in the perceived effects. It was concluded that FA supplementation in women before pregnancy lowers the risk of congenital abnormalities, but socioeconomic status and medical care were not taken into account during the study, possibly skewing the results (Banhidy, et al., 2011). Other studies found very similar results in terms of lowered risk of congenital abnormalities with FA supplementation. • 21. A Crucifixion Outside The City Of Jerusalem This painting depicts a crucifixion outside the city of Jerusalem, discernible by the centrally planned church and rounded red rotunda in the background of the city. Rounded structures that resemble towers align the walls of the city, another definitive element of the biblical city. Although the painting clearly represents an idealized Jerusalem, it emulates a contemporary European town of the Northern Renaissance age, with Gothic architecture and what resembles shops at the front of the city. The painter also depicts the mountainous terrain of Jerusalem, but portrays greenery that the actual desert city would not have. The contemporary background makes the painting less abstract and more relatable to the viewer. The overall composition of the painting is naturalistic: emphasized by the light and shadow on the figures, the use of three dimensions, and the additional details in the clothes of the figures. The body on the cross demonstrates the most amount of modeling. The face and legs of the person are covered by shadow, while the light hits the left side of the body at the chest the most. Also, there is an attention to showcasing three dimensions: the objects towards the back of the painting get smaller, while the objects in the front are larger. The three dimensions frame the picture, and create a sense of directly looking into the scene from a front viewer. Lastly, the folding and drapery of the clothing accentuate the naturalism of the painting by looking similar to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, humans have the largest impact on the biosphere through the means of industrialization, reproduction, and consumption. As with all of the other organisms inhibiting the biosphere, humans have basic needs in order to thrive. We need habitats, protection, reproductive success, and sustenance. However, unlike other organisms, we have proclivities that span beyond the essential tools needed to survive. We have the unique gift of insight, and with it, the ability to innovate beyond the parameters of any other species on the planet. From the use of fire to the invention of the smartphone, there is a continuum of technological advances. In today s industrialized societies, these technological conveniences have become vital in order for one to compete for resources. With this dependency, comes a cost, and it threatens the very system that supports life on earth. In North America, 700,000 tons of air pollution is released into the atmosphere every day (Biology). This stems from the use of fuel burning transportation, product manufacturing, and mining. There are two main classes of air pollution, particles and gases. The discharge of elements into the ... • 40. Health Care Case Study Health care reform continues to be an ongoing topic throughout the Unites States. A continuous focus remains on the restructuring of the delivery system. According to Si and Singh (2015) cost, access and delivery of care are three major aspects of a healthcare system and the United States (US) has a unique system unlike any other in the world. Specifically, the US does not have a government run health insurance program that entitles all citizens to have health insurance automatically. Additionally, the system does not function as a well integrated network of elements that complement each other, instead a fragmented structure is currently in place. Without equal access to healthcare through a uniform insurance platform, citizens struggle to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reauthorization expanded funding for children s coverage by $33 billion in federal funds over a 4.5 year period through 2013 and the ACA extended federal funding of CHIP through September 2015 (Raphael Giardino, 2015). Additionally, in January 2014, the ACA legally requires insurers to cover individuals with preexisting conditions and required the companies to charge everyone in the same plan the same rate (Hass, 2013). According to Shi and Singh (2015), prior to 2009 individuals with preexisting health conditions could not easily obtain health insurance in the individual health insurance market. Specifically, individuals were either denied coverage or could not afford what was available to them. The quality of care that is provided to patients is among one of the biggest focal points in regards to US healthcare systems. • 41. Is Comedy Really Censored Essay Comedy tends to be a very subjective thing, what you find funny another may not find all that amusing. But one of the most important rights we have in our country is the freedom of speech. Which lets whatever jokes be said no matter how funny or offensive someone may or may not find it. But in recent years this previously seemingly untouchable area that is comedy has seen it self almost censored. But should comedy be given a pass from the fervent pc culture of the 21st century? Comedians have always been the naughty child of the entertainment industry. Having the edgy opinions but still managing to not be chastised by their respective fans. Where back then comedians only had one fear which was whether their audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comedy should not be restrained to rules that constrain what can be and what can t be said. Comedy is supposed to consist of a observational and satirical ideas and jokes and with the reality of life these jokes can be offensive to some. Although this also doesn t mean that someone being extremely crude trying to offend minorities and such Is funny just for the sake of comedy. But instead of trying to get rid of that type of Comedy people should talk with their wallet instead. If they don t like it they should not endorse that person and move on with their lives. Although they might not like it their are others that do. As with any opinion our country we are gifted with the freedom of speech we are allowed to speak and have any opinion that we choose no matter how Controversial. But certain countries such as Canada do not seem to share the same opinion as us. Where comedians have been fined for making offensive jokes directed towards certain people. • 42. How Lomax and Fellow Prisoners are Treated Essay How Lomax and Fellow Prisoners are Treated In this essay I will be looking at ways in which Lomax conveys how he and his fellow prisoners are treated here in this passage from the book. To show evidence of this I will select quotes which show choices of form, style, vocabulary and narrative viewpoint. Overall I aim to highlight the ways in which the attitudes and values are conveyed to the reader. Lomax Perfectly describes his transition from a P.O.W camp to Outram Gail. What our captors were in fact doing was consigning us to a lower circle of hell . This extremely poignant statement shows use of imagery in a way that stands out to the reader. He uses lower circle of hell , which is a simile to emphasize the absurdity of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is mostly from the viewpoint of Lomax now, as an old man who can look back and comment on it with toned down emotion and consideration. Moving on to the use of adjectives which Lomax has liberally used throughout the first paragraph we get the impression that there was no pre meditated violence or planned torture, it was just neglect of the most damaging kind. some of his colleagues were bored, slovenly and brutal . Both bored and slovenly are adjectives that describe well the casual attitude of the guards. I would imagine that the attitudes of these guards were strongly disliked by Lomax morals. He doesn t believe in laziness, to him every thing must have a purpose and he likes to carefully consider and plan any thing he does. I cannot imagine that this lax, thoughtless behaviour impressed him much. Further on in the second paragraph there is more evidence of imagery, and how Lomax uses it to good effect. cradling those frail creatures of skin and bone in his own emaciated arms . This comes across strongly in many ways; firstly he is implying that these creatures have taken on a kind of sub human form through their illness and horrific neglect and deprivation. Secondly the man looking after them is also rather emaciated . A rather juxtaposed statement as the carer is almost as weak and sick as whom he is caring for. The descriptive ... I think that social media is a good thing because you can have so much fun on it and even make friends on in. Without that you would be limited to the kids in your neighborhood and in some places there are not a lot of kids that you can make friends with or they do not live close so you have to drive there. That is all fixed with social media. Like recently I have found some friends on social media that I play games with. They are super nice and without social media I would have never had that experience I would have to play be myself all the time and have no one to talk to. But now I have the chance to make friends and have fun with them even tho they live far away. Also colleges and most jobs look at your social media account to see what kind of person you are and if you are able to work so not only can you have fun but you can also potentially make money from it and you can make friends. • 46. Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue Isaiah Tuppince Mr. Greer English 2 October 21st, 2015 Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can they reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right now and I believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman, Alternative testing technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote once said was by Martin Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong when right can be done, especially when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings and enjoy life as much as humans do so keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel and inhuman. It is understandable that animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans, but when alternative testing options are available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program that was designed to begin vitro testing. This program was established by Johns Hopkins. The CAAT was created in 1988 and funded by more than 70 corporations (Hunter). These corporations funded this program to change animal testing a find alternative ways to test drugs other than on animals. • 47. Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance This essay will evaluate the presentation of Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance in the world of social psychology. Throughout I will discuss the establishment of his theory, it s supporting evidence and any limitations of this. I will also deliberate what it can explain and the alternative explanations presented by other psychologists; how they differ from Festinger s, how they add to Festinger s original theory and finally how they extend the knowledge in understanding the interaction between thoughts and actions to question the position of rivalry over cohesion between them all. The theory of cognitive dissonance was introduced by Leon Festinger in 1957, a time where many claimed social psychology had lost the social aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is regarded as a counterintuitive social theory as it implied that actions influenced attitudes as opposed to the alternative notion, once seen as the more reasonable, (Miller J. L., 2012). His theory of cognitive dissonance is still referenced today in numerous credible and published work either in support of the theory or to suggest revisions, (Dember Jenkins, 1970) cited from Cognitive Dissonance Theory (n.d.), revealing a lasting impact. Social psychologist Herbert C. Kelman (1953) first investigated cognitive dissonance through the consequences of forced compliance and hypothesised the opposite of his data findings, which revealed that counter attitudinal advocacy occurred more often in low reward circumstances in comparison to higher reward. Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959), similarly followed to find supporting evidence of the cognitive dissonance theory. They conducted an experiment in the U.S. concerning the cognitive consequence of forced compliance and found similar results. The study involved 71 male participants where they were given two monotonous tasks of filling a tray and turning 48 pegs clockwise, both with one hand and for half an hour each. The participants where split into groups, where one received one dollar for their time and the other received twenty dollars. Both low reward and high reward groups where then asked to recommend the experiment to future participants, who were secretly confederates. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Disease Of Common Diseases Common diseases such as diabetes, cancer, autism, and age related macular degeneartion effect substantial number of people. Understanding of genetic causes of these diseases will provide fundamental insight for preventing, diagnosing, and eventually curing these diseases. In the past few decades, more than a thousand of rare Mendelian diseases causative genes have been identified by combination of linkage analysis with positional cloning (http://omim.org/). However, this strategy does not have enough power as applied to common diseases, in which usually multiple genetic and environmental risk factors contribute to disease development, and each risk factor only account for a small fraction of the influences (Risch, 2000). Thereafter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In GWAS, a set of sequence variants are used as genetic markers to discover disease associated regions across the human genome, and subsequently to detect causative variants within these regions. As relying on the assumption that the disease risk variants will be in linkage disequilibrium (LD) with one of the marker variants tested, this strategy provides the potential to test any region and gene across the genome for disease association. To apply GWAS, it is necessary to establish a human genetic variant catalog with characterization of their allele frequencies and LD pattern among different populations. The first human genome sequence variation map with 1.42 million SNPs was created by the international SNP Map Working Group in 2000 (Sachidanandam et al., 2001). The SNPs localize either within or close to exons, and the map only described the information on the nearby genes and other genomic features of the SNPs without characterizing their allele frequencies and LD patterns. It was applied for linkage study, but not enough for association studies Until 2002, the international HapMap consortium launched a project with aim to construct the first comprehensive human genetic variant database to facilitate investigation of the genetic risk factors of human diseases, especially common diseases (2003). The HapMap project consists of three phases lasting from 2002 2009. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
