Overview of case study
I was the counselor for Sean, a gay man that is experiencing high anxiety and hopelessness. Sean
recently moved to the area and his support system is lacking. When Sean came out to his parents three
months ago, his parents were not receptive. His father offered to pray for him and said Sean would
have to find somewhere else to live unless he wants to change being gay. His father is a high profile
political figure that recently pushed anti LGBTQ legislation in a different state. Sean s relationship
with his parents has been strained since he came out to them, and he really only speaks to them when
he needs money.

Many times the counselor is the one person in the client s life that does not offer judgement and gives
them the space to think through the issues affecting them, and the counselor can help in creating a
bigger picture with the connections between the emotional, psychological, and physical problems
affecting their functioning. To gain a better understanding of the connections a counselor can ask
questions and present challenges, and this experience confirmed that I still struggle with my
confidence in that area. Something that I believe will strengthen my ability in this aspect is to consider
my intention behind it and know that the client can handle my questions and challenges, and that I do
not have that much power in the room. The client does not need my protection in the room, and my
protection can make the situation worse for them. The biggest element of this experimental project
was the reconfirmation of we are all humans and just want to be treated with respect. We all have
different experiences and identities that have formed who we are, and that does not mean that we need
to treat each other differently. Instead just be a fellow human being that is there to listen, provide
respect and support, and empower them to find that support both in themselves and in outside
relationships so they will no longer need our

Radiology Radiology is a branch of medicine that uses some forms of radiation (such as X rays or
MRI s) to diagnose and treat diseases ( Radiology ). Radiology has drastically changed the field of
medicine especially when MRI was discovered. MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging which
is a technique in which radio waves are used to process detailed pictures of your organs and tissues
within the body ( MRI ). MRI s have changed the field of Radiology due to the discovering s of
Raymond Vahan Damadian and made a lasting global impact on the field of medicine in general. The
invention of the MRI did not only impact a generation but it impacted the medical world as a whole. I

physicians but gave them a new perspective and a broader range of ways to treat patients. The MRI

When we were little you use to lock me in the closet. One time, Mother found me after she heard
crying. You said we were playing hide and seek. I did not recall playing, I think I must have missed
something when you screamed in my face and shoved me back into that closet, shut the doors. Locked
them. I never heard any hesitation, I never heard your feet still on the old floor boards when I cried out
because I was afraid of the dark. I screamed at first, and when you finally let me out I listened to you

because you were Shade Santoro and you were the man who always had something to say. Where are

Advantages Of The Maghrib
The modernization of the Maghrib was not beneficial to the culture and modernization of North
Africa. Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas
about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions, and
the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North Africa
that includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria was very
important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this region. Along
with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and experiences of Khayr
al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives of the Maghrib were
weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their new implementation of
laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the region.
Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including
ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The
mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish
cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the French
came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a gorgeous
mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town square where
there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding the rest of the
square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and as big as the
grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and architecture of the region
was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French architecture.
The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought
their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed it
to. As stated in the Colonial Mythologies article, the idea was

Origen Of Alexandria s Intellectual Framework Of The...
Origen of Alexandria was one of the earliest and most important Christian scholars. Origen originated
from a Christian home and as a young man he provided for his family by selling his secular books and
later on, he began his extraordinary career as a teacher and scholar (Shelley 84). At a very tender age
of eighteen years old, leadership was surrendered to him by Clement, the first Christian scholar
(Shelley 83). Just as Clement, Origen traced man s thirst for knowledge to the work of God. The
desire to bring all truth into God s plan of salvation provided by Christ was Origen s ultimate aim.
While under his bishop, Demetrius, he was invited to Athens. While traveling to Athens, he passed
through Caesarea, where he accepted ordination to the ministry. After finding out about Origen s
ordination, Demetrius led in a public condemnation of Origen. As a result, he made Caesarea his
home. This was the ultimate beginning of Origen s accomplishments. Thus, ... Show more content on

For instance, he addressed a wide range of subjects for Christians and against pagans and he also
wrote many entries based on the Old Testament entitled the Hexapla (Shelley 85). As stated in the text,
Origen believed that if Christianity were to succeed in shaping civilization, it must justify itself to the
intellect as well as to the heart of mankind. In comparison, he stated if we see some admirable work of
human art, we are at once eager to investigate the nature, the manner, the end of its production; and
the contemplation of the works of God stir us with an incomparably greater longing to learn the
principles, the method, the purpose of creation. This desire, this passion, has without doubt been
implanted in us by God. And as the eye seeks light, as our body craves food, so our mind is impressed
with the natural desire to know the truth of God and the causes of what we observe (Shelley

Bravery In The Giver
Character Analysis when focused on survival Bravery is a hard trait to come by, but many people have
this quality even if they don t know it yet. In both The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan and
The Giver by Lois Lowry the main characters find their own bravery when focused on their own
survival. In The Giver, Jonas bravery shined through when he decided to leave his community for the
better of others. In The Forest Of Hands and Teeth, the bravery in Mary is evident when decided to
leave her community on the risky, forbidden path that she had always been warned of. Both of the
characters bravery is shown when their lives are put at risk and they are able to go after their own
wildest dreams without restriction. Specifically, Mary s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dangerous it would be to bring Gabriel with him, and does it anyway. Jonas was very aware that there
was a uge chance that Gabriel would not survive the trip. They could starve, freeze, and get caught by
his community. Jonas decided to take gabe anyway and they made it. Jonas was brave enough to not
only risk his own life, but also Gabriels for the people in his community. Joas was trying to save his
community and he left the safety of it to help it. He put his life before everyone else s and that is
brave. In The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan, Mary also discovers her bravery when trying
to survive. Primarily, Mary has a strong desire to see the ocean. This is brave because the ocean is a
very dangerous place. Unconsecrated roam the beaches and wash up on shore. Mary learns this but
refuses to let her greatest desire die. Mary has watched both her mother and father pass, and those are
the people who spoke to her about the ocean and told stories about how beautiful it is. They told her
that it s out there somewhere beyond the Forest Of Hands And Teeth. When Mary and the rest of her
friends are forced out of her village Mary is Forced to survive. When she is fighting for her life she
realizes that she will not give up the ocean (Ryan 264). Mary is not going to let this desire become a
fantasy again, she will not give up hope in finding the ocean. She watches almost all of the important
people in her life die and all she has left is the ocean. Her bravery allows her to do what she couldn t
do if she was still stuck in that village and not forced to survive. She leaves her group to find the

What Is The Theme Of The Blue Bowl By Jane Glaser
Death whirls around us, handpicking our inevitable fate. Some seek it; some ignorantly fall upon it.No
writer conveys an equal perspective on death. Both Elton Glaser and Jane Kenyon use similes,
onomatopoeia and imagery to illustrate their opinions. In Smoking , Glaser pinpoints the widely
eclectic range of sentiments that derives from an artificial form of death. However in The Blue Bowl
Kenyon focuses more on the subject of closure and reacting to death.
Elton Glaser uses similes to warn us of the long term consequences of smoking, whereas Jane Kenyon
uses them to express her opinion on closure. In the middle of the poem, Glaser uses similes to describe

Glaser calls attention to the speaker s fascination of the flame of his lighter through the descriptions of
it s Boldface of fire and the rage and sway of it . This fascination is also brought up when describing
the blaze in detail raw blue at the base, and a slope of gold, a touch to the packed tobacco . In contrast,
he also uses negative imagery to detail the process of how smoking destroys the body. He introduces a
destructive mood to the poem when referring to the way that smoke gets To the black crust of lungs ,
the Veins tight and the heart slow both due to the lack of blood flow. Glaser, therefore, introduces the
theme of decay and death, as the poem progresses. Kenyon uses imagery at the very beginning of the
poem to give color to the cat by mentioning his long red fur , the white feathers between his toes and
his long, not to say aquiline, nose , a trait that defines his visage. She also uses it to illustrate the
fragile and gloomy mood at the beginning of the poem. Specifying Barehanded, we scraped sand and

Review of Index Building Methodologies
Introduction:
In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed greater
focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##. Measures of
national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic considerations,
such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing are now widely
understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through measurements of
income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge of constructing
metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable index. The following
summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and provide a brief
overview of their strengths and weaknesses.
Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to convert
the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units. That is, to find a
way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the range of tens of
thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into the same scale of
measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as transformation
functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index formation into five

Protagonist In The Storm
What Makes a Protagonist A protagonist is a literary device used to develop a story: the story revolves
around the struggle of the protagonist who may undergo a change, usually at the climax (Literary
Devices). Using this definition, deciding the protagonist ought to be straightforward; however, if the
story follows many characters who undergo some change at the climax of the story, then deciding who
the protagonist is will be a bit more complicated. In the story Sweat, Delia can easily be labelled as the
protagonist: the story, for the most part, follows her life as she tries to cope with a loveless marriage.
She does undergo a change, twice in fact, when she decides not to put up with her husband s abuse,
anymore, and when she decides not to help him when he is bitten by a rattlesnake. In The Storm,
however, deciding the protagonist is a little more murky. The story focuses on multiple characters and
two of the characters undergo a struggle and a change. Calixta and Alcée can both effectively argued
as the protagonist of their story, whereas Alcée s struggle and Calixta s character change are ... Show

Initially, he began exploring the oil industry and formed his own oil exploration company. While

Poverty Today s Day And Age Has Become More Common Than...
Poverty in today s day and age has become more common than ever before. Poverty involves not
being able to participate in activities that most other people are able to do (Raphael 2015, Lecture).
The topic of poverty connects with inequality, where living conditions produce material and social
deprivation that intensively threaten health and reduce the quality of life for an exclusive subset of the
population (Raphael 2011, preface). For children, this has been a disregarded subject and deserves
much more attention and consideration worldwide. In health, education, and material well being, there
comes this impression of children falling behind (Adamson 2010, p. 1). In a well established country
like Canada, the topic of poverty, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). The second dimension of inequality is the inequality in young people s achievement through their
education (Adamson 2010, p. 9). The third dimension of inequality involves three indicators that are
used in children s self reported health complaints; healthy eating; and frequency of vigorous physical
activity (Adamson 2010, p. 13). Through economic causes, its social costs and its possible remedies,
inequality has become a major concern over the last three decades (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Inequality is
an example of the changes in both the ability and effort it provides for further progress in all types of
fields that engage in human endeavor (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Before the economic crisis in 2008,
surveys were conducted to measure inequality and deploy data. Since well being has many
dimensions, survey s were conducted favoring multidimensional measurements (Adamson 2010, p. 3).
In terms of measuring the gap, based on the data that is available, there are two different methods that
are used for approximating how far behind children are being allowed to fall (Adamson 2010, p. 4).
The first method compares the child at the 10th percentile with the child at the 50th percentile. Then
the degree of inequality is measured by the gap in between these two individuals, and that is shown as
a percentage of the median position that exists. The second method compares the level of

For Many Years, Romanticism Dominated English Literature,
For many years, Romanticism dominated English literature, and consequently American literature, as
American writers were heavily influenced by the English. Writers like Poe and Hawthorne were
leaders in this form of literature. As thinking changed scientifically, philosophically and spiritually, so
did literature. Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn showed American culture in a way it had never been
shown, and in doing so became arguably the most famous piece of realist literature. His novel
exemplifies the rejection of romantic ideals. Realism started in France, as the rejection of the popular
romantic novels. While romantic novels were usually overly dramatic and emotional, realist novels

He shows the other characters personalities for what they really are, He just gives details of what he
sees, giving the reader a realistic view.
Huck s literalness and practicality sometimes make it difficult for him to even play and fantasize the
way children do. For example, Tom; a very romantic character, starts a gang with the local boys.Tom
says the gang must sign a blood oath, and if they leave the gang their whole family must be murdered.
He talks about how the gang will be highwaymen, robbing and killing caravans as they pass by. Huck,
being the realistic character he is, takes this completely literal. The gang conducts a raid on what Tom
said was a huge meeting between Spanish merchants and Rich A rabs; when it turns out to be a sunday
school picnic, Huck is disappointed. Tom then convinces Huck that Genies had made the whole thing
disappear, he then tells Huck how to get conjure the Genie. Huck tries, and reaction shows his realist
personality and his reluctance to trust superstition So then I judged that all that stuff was only just one
of Tom Sawyer s lies. I reckoned he believed in the A rabs and the elephants, but as for me I think
different. It had all the marks of a Sunday school. (Twain, 1884, p. 115, lines 3 5).
Huck deals with many hardships in his life, which is a very real concept, as everything is not always
perfect and easy. His hardships include a dead mother and a drunken father.

In 1973, the Supreme Court took on the case of Roe v. Wade. This Supreme Court case was based on
the right of privacy in reference to abortion. The case ruled that the U.S Constitution effectively

Rural Food Security And Nutrition
The potential of crossbreeding indigenous chickens to improve rural food security and nutrition in
southern Africa a review
Abstract
The need to increase poultry production in southern Africa to meet the increasing protein requirement
of the growing population is becoming a great concern. The quality of poultry meat and eggs produced
in terms of taste, texture, flavour and leanness are of importance to consumers. Crossbreeding
indigenous with exotic strains of chickens is one of the main factors that can improve food and
nutrition security in southern Africa. In this paper, ways in which the quality and quantity of poultry
meat and eggs can be improved for sustainable food and nutrition security in southern Africa, with
emphasis on crossbreeding as a prospective food security (protein) stability technique are discussed.
This paper is based on critical analysis of the literature and discusses and evaluates various
crossbreeding methods of chickens that have been carried out in African countries. Comparative
studies on the implementation, failures and successes of crossbreeding of chickens in African
countries, such as Egypt, Botswana, Malawi and South Africa among others are reviewed.
Crossbreeding, combined with selection, information dissemination, improved management and
technology, is recommended for the geometric increase in poultry meat and egg production in
southern Africa to improve food and nutrition security.

Self Esteem And Eating Disorders
Throughout history, women have transformed their appearances to match the current beauty ideal.
Today, the idea of being a size zero has transformed itself from a trend into being an obsession. The
fascination to be thin and perfect has invaded the minds of women and girls all over the world, it feels
as if the pressure to have the perfect body everywhere. The ideals of beauty have been constantly
focussed on women s bodies. It s gone from the boyish figure during the roaring twenties to an
hourglass figure that swept the 1930s and 1950s. Every year beauty standards change and continue to
impact women s lives.
Many sources talked about self esteem and eating disorders relating to the pressure for the perfect
body throughout young girls and women. Other sources focused on the misleading influence of media
on women and girls. In one article, Body Image Dissatisfaction: Gender Differences in Eating
Attitudes, Self Esteem, and Reasons for Exercise (Furnham, Badmin, Sneade), it talked about women
and how they are more likely to judge themselves about their weight or size than men would. It also
talked about the different struggles that men and women go through with their bodies. The article,
Perfect Body Image , talked about what people are seeing in the news as being perfect. It also brings
up the dangers of people thinking and being pressured into these standards. Dangers such as Anorexia,
Bulimia, and other eating disorders, are becoming more and more common in society

Essay about The Schlieffen Plan by Alfred Von Schlieffen
In this essay I will explain what Schlieffen plan was and why it did not work step by step.It began
when Germany declare war on Russia and France. However their allies Britain and Belgium stepped
in to help while Austro Hungary was alliance to Germany. The Schlieffen plan had been created by
Alfred Von Schlieffen but he had died before world war one started. The plan was meant to be
foolproof. First of all, Germany planned to defeat France quickly by marching through Belgium
before Russia could get involved. It was intended to avoid a war on two fronts. Germany believed that
Russia would take six weeks to mobilize their troops. Germany would hold the French on the frontier
with their weak forces and follow this by holding up Russian ... Show more content on

This resulted in the German advance being further delayed. Furthermore, I will describe how French
troops retreated to defend Paris from the German advance. The Germans imagined that their
advancement would be speedy and France would not be able to defend. Nevertheless, France was able
to actually relocate their troops very quickly and effectively. France had a war plan, it was called Plan
XVII and it was essentially offensive form the Maginot line into Alsace Lorraine. Eventually, over
300,000 French soldiers were killed within two weeks. The French generals then abandoned Plan
XVII, they ordered their forces to return to protect Paris. The mobilisation of the French troops were
done by train, taxis and marching, together with help from Britain and Belgium to slow German
advancement. This enabled France to succeed in mobilisation of their troops. The German greatly
underestimated how well France would be able to do this. By te time the Germans arrived in france
the french troops were there already waiting for them, France force were ready and well prepared.
Moreover, I will explain how the Russian mobilisation of the army was much more quickly than
expected. The mobilisation began on 26th July, when it became evident that Austria hungary would
not stand for Serbia s partial acceptance of their demand. Germany thought that Russian would take at
least six weeks to move. In the reality, Russia

The media is perhaps more controversial in recent times than it has ever been. The one thing that

Analysis Of Loving V. Virginia
The movie Loving is based off of the court case Loving v. Virginia. Even after the Civil Rights act of
1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, origin, and religion, had not yet edified the question
of marriage. States, such as Virginia, still imposed a ban on interracial marriages. The charges against
the protagonists, Mildred and Richard Loving, spiked my interest because of the enhanced step taken
by society as was taken in modern times during the same sex marriage case Obergefell v. Hodges. The
court during the twentieth century was forced to question our evolving standards of decency and
define our Constitutional rights given to us by Equal Protection and Due Process laws of the fifth and
fourteenth amendment. The prosecution in Loving v. Virginia had to display their reasoning for their
holding by under the levels of scrutiny in the Equal Protection Clause. The defense had to prove there
was inconsistent levels of scrutiny, a lack of compelling governmental interest, and that marriage was
a fundamental right. Once proven, the institution of marriage, licensing, and recognition of interracial
couples was Constitutionally protected.

Intersectionality And Intersecting Identities
Intersectionality is a concept that is utilized to better understand the dynamics of oppression and
privilege in regards to an individual s identity. Intersectionality is how different identities align and
cross (intersect) to create more identities and experiences. For example, a black woman who is
homosexual must deal with the prejudices and challenge that both of those identities present.
Recognizing and understanding intersectionality is vital for facilitating a beneficial intercultural
dialogue. A beneficial intercultural dialogue can garber a more advanced and open sense of empathy
and knowledge for intersecting identities that an individual may not have had before. This is due to
their position in relation to other individual s identities, positionality, which plays a significant role in

the positional hierarchy usually have a better view on the variety of standpoints beyond their own, as
they need these understandings to survive. I, myself, have a variety of identities that intersect in many
different ways. I identify most strongly with my identities in respect to my age, race, class, and

Founding Brothers Sparknotes
Joseph J.Ellis provides an insight of how a nation emerged, with a group of memorable individuals
that founded the American Republic. Founding Brothers deals with confrontations and crucial issues
that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Aaron Burr, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James
Madison, and George Washington encountered during an undefined decade where a fragile nation was
being formed. With its main and secondary theme that focuses on the struggles the leaders of the
Revolutionary Generation dealt with for the success of a Union, Founding Brothers is a marvelous
book for historical readers that want an understanding of the political chaos of the early republic.
Founding Brothers immerses the reader into the minds of the founders of America and explores the
consequences of their actions. Divided into six chapters, Ellis demonstrates the thoughts, actions, and
interactions of the figures that created a nation. Collaboration is the main theme because without

The Public Safety Canada
According to the Public Safety Canada, in the year of 2015 there were over 500 offenders who
received special designations and who were serving an indeterminate sentence, twenty one offenders
were serving both a life sentence and an indeterminate sentence. More than 95 percent of dangerous

Analysis Of There Will Come Soft Rains
The text, There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury tells the story of a robotically controlled
house left standing in a post apocalyptic world. Every day, life continues as normal for the house until
it meets the same fate of death as it catches on fire and burns to the ground, leaving only one voice
behind.
This story made me think about how, even though you may not be there, time still passes on and does
not stop for anybody. Throughout the text, it continues to refer to the time of day it is, and elaborates
on how the day is progressing, like one of the first lines, Tick tock, seven o clock, time to get up, time
to get up, seven o clock! Everything, apart from the fact there is nobody around, seems completely
normal, and a routine is still kept in place. The house continues on as if what s going on is completely
normal, as it knows no different from what it has been programmed to do. The writer makes me think
about how we need to make the most of our time on our Earth. We never know when our last day will
be, and our lives are honestly quite fleeting. I personally know that I don t like or enjoy coming out of
the routine I have set for myself on a day to day basis, although this makes a lot of my days feel the
same in an overall sense. The message about how time won t, and can t, stop for anybody, and how
life is so fragile, makes me think about how, maybe, I am not living to my fullest potential. This is the
case for a lot of other people as well, and is a wide

Moralism In The Cask Of Amontillado
Looking at The Cask of Amontillado one can usually see the issue and theme of Montresor s rationale

His uneasy inner voice has turned into a sort of retaliation for his wrongdoing, and the blessing In

They could be used only on a very low level. quot; The use of credit cards by retailers began in 1914

to World War I, few hotels, oil companies and department stores issued credit cards. Then in 1931 the
airline companies introduced the credit cards in their business (Lewis, 1990). The evolution and the
expansion of the card went lide the speed of light. The most important step was the introduction of the
credit card to the Internet in the 90 s. Today, Web servers enable payments by credit card. A credit card

Greek-American Culture Analysis
Compared to other American groups, Greek Americans are sought out to be wealthy, educated, and

of migration for the Greeks to the United States. The First period was from 1890 1924, and the second
period was from 1925 1968 (Markus, 1986). Greeks, on average, have higher education, and higher

though Chinese people primarily speak Mandarin, sometimes its dialect makes it difficult to
communicate at times. China has adopted the pinyin system using Roman letters for spelling Chinese
names and places as well as a pronunciation tool for learning the Chinese characters (Countrywatch).
Men haave a higher rate of literacy in China than women do. For men, it is 95 percent and for women
86.5 percent. While many speak in their native language, English is taught in Chinese schools. From
the time the child starts school until he/she graduates, English is taught in every grade.
Food is an important staple in Chinese culture. When families get together, they eat and enjoy each
other s company. Chinese food has five key flavors that must be balanced according to Chinese
medicine (ChinaHighlights). These flavors include, but are not limited to, sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and
spicy. The Northern part of China chooses to eat more dumplings and noodles. The North prefers
wheat products over rice dishes. The south prefers rice with most meals. Vegetables are not just eaten

Fpl Harvard Business Casw
The fourth largest electric utility company in the United States and the largest electric utility in Florida
is the FPL Group, which formed in 1925 from the consolidation of several gas and electric companies.
FPL as a company continued to grow after 1925 because the ever increasing Florida population
demanded more and more electricity. This trend continued until the 1970s when operating problems,
and the rising cost of fuel and construction, caused a reduction of the company s profitability. To
address this issue, then Chairman Marshall McDonald, decided to make four major acquisitions:
Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company, Telesat Cablevision Inc., CBR Information Group Inc., and
Turner Foods Corporation. FPL also attempted to improve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The fear in cutting dividends though always is in the hands of the shareholders, where their fears
could cause a large drop in stock price.
The four options for dividend disbursement that FPL has are to first to keep the dividends at the status
quo of 1.6%, second to slower the dividend growth to 1%, third to freeze dividend, and last to reduce
or eliminate the dividend completely. When analyzing the first option, which is the keep the dividends
at an increasing 1.6% per year, exhibit TN 4 shows that dividend payouts do increase from $468.38
million in 1994 to $499.08 million in 1998 with a resulting negative net cash after dividends every
year till 1997 when cash is $110 million and 1998 when cash is $102 million. The payout ratio
however does reduce to 84% by 1998.
The second option available for FPL was to slower the dividend growth to 1%. Analysis of exhibit TN
4 here shows that dividends grow from $465.61 million in 1994 to $484.52 million in 1998. The
resulting negative net cash flows are still eminent in years 1994 1996 but become positive in 1997
with $121 million and 1998 with $116 million. The payout ratio is this option does become closer to
the desired 80% by 1998 when the payout ratio is 81%
The third option was to freeze the dividend at $2.48 per share. The dividend payout stayed constant at
$461 million from 1994 to 1998. With this, the

Hawaiian Culture Essay
There are still debates about the origins of Polynesian culture, but one thing we can ensure is that
Polynesia is not a single tribe but a complex one. Polynesians which includes Marquesans, Samoans,
Niueans, Tongans, Cook Islanders, Hawaiians, Tahitians, and Māori, are genetically linked to
indigenous peoples of parts of Southeast Asia. It s a sub region of Oceania, comprising of a large
grouping of over 1 ,000 islands scattered over the central and southern Pacific Ocean, within a triangle
that has New Zealand, Hawaii and Easter Island as its corners.
People who live in these islands are regarded as Polynesians for their similar traits in language,
customs, society and culture.

A second wave of migrations may have arrived around 1100 AD from Tahiti. The isolated Hawaiians
had less and less contact with the rest of the Polynesian world and developed their own distinct
culture. Hawaiian culture was certainly well established by 1400 AD, the exciting history and culture
of ancient Hawaii was in full swing!
The Polynesian migration to Hawaii was part of one of the most remarkable achievements of
humanity: the discovery and settlement of the remote, widely scattered islands of the central Pacific.
When European explorers found the islands of Polynesia, the common ancestry of the Polynesians
was evident the inhabitants of widely separated islands looked alike, spoke alike, and had similar
cultural practices. Their manufactured products such as fishhooks, trolling lures, adzes, and ornaments
also revealed similarities. And they had the same basic stock of domesticated plants and animals.
The Polynesian people are considered to be by linguistic, archaeological and human genetic ancestry a
subset of the sea migrating Austronesian people and tracing Polynesian languages places their
prehistoric origins in the Malay Archipelago, and ultimately, in

The Statement Of Teaching Philosophy
My Philosophy
Introduction
The statement of teaching philosophy (also called the teaching statement or teaching philosophy
statement) promotes reflective practice by encouraging instructors to describe their teaching methods,
to justify why they use those methods, to analyze the effectiveness of those methods, and to consider
how they might appropriately modify those methods in future courses. (Schönwetter et al., 2002)
Stake holder motivation, engagement, cognitive associations, and personal values are the principal
elements of education. The attainment of knowledge, standards mastery, and the ability to reason
come second to a student s overall well being. Elements of behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism,
existentialism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, many first drafts include general statements about learning goals as well as teaching
practices. (Kearns Sullivan, 2011) Teachers are encouraged to systematically change declarative
statements about their passion for teaching moments in the classroom that speak of learning goals and
personal qualities. It is through reflection of experiences that teachers can build personal expectations
of themselves.
Review of the Literature Within a framework of teaching, educators focus on the nature of knowledge
and how students gain that knowledge. There are five established, major educational philosophies.
They are behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and perennialism. These
philosophies greatly focus on what should be taught. Behavioral learning theories are simply
explained as reinforcing behaviors one would like to see repeated. Slavin states, Reinforcement will
increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences. (2012, p. 120) The
student environment impacts student decisions and learning. Positive reinforcement is the application
of a stimulus. Negative reinforcement is the application of a punishment. The role of teachers in
behavioral learning theories is to provide immediate and concise feedback of behaviors. Teachers
should provide tasks with small,

The Effects of Internet Addiction Disorder and Technological Tools.
Problematic Internet Use
The issue of Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) has become a topic of discussion for the newer
generations exposed to technological tools (smartphones, tablets etc.). Considering the effectiveness
of computer mediated communication (CMC) compared to the traditional face to face, there is a larger
chance to become addicted to the internet since technological tools have been developed to be
conveniently accessible. Using technological tools as a mediator, it can be possible that individuals
prefer CMC due to the three main components that it offers: anonymity, asynchronicity, and
accessibility (Valkenburg Peter, 2011). With this being said, it can ... Show more content on

The wide range of tools offered by different social networking sites can factor into the frequent use of
technological tools and the internet. Using Facebook as an example, it can be fairly easy to control the
information and media posted onto a user s profile. Burke Ruppel (2015) suggest that for the most
part, people have the ability to control the information and pictures they post on Facebook (in addition
to controlling the dissemination of others information about them, such as by deleting wall posts or
removing tags that identify them in others pictures), giving them the tools to convey a desired
impression to others. Being able to control and avoid certain insecurities on their online profile is what
makes sites like Facebook display a social medium between text and media posted while conducting
research.
Communication effectiveness overall in Computer mediated friendships
Taking in consideration the amount of time spent on the internet actively engaging with others, it is
more than likely that friendship development online will become a common preference amongst
adolescences in the foundation of establishing and maintaining relationships. Overall, CMC has
effected the way we communicate with others online. Unlike face to face communication, it is easier
to enhance the controllability of self presentation and self disclosure in

Jane Eyre Development
Jane Eyre follows the moral development of a young scared girl to a strong and unwavering woman.
Through each stage of her development was an imperious male character. Jane first encounters John
Reed, a spoiled and obscene person. She shortly after encounters the intensely bitter Mr. Brocklehurst.
Mr. Brocklehurst seemed like a good man at first but proved to be far from that. Next was Edward
Rochester. While he was by no means as harsh as John Reed or Mr.Brocklehurst he was cruel in his
own way. Finally, the last strong male character was St. John Rivers. He is cold hearted and repressed.
The exact opposite of the fiery Rochester. These characters vary greatly and all had an immense
impact on Eyre s development along with Brontë s construction ... Show more content on

social backgrounds but despite this, he is kind spirited to her. Edward is Jane s lover and the owner of
Thornfield Manor. Jane finds Rochester attractive and sensual. He is the first person to show Jane
what love is. Up until that point in her life she never experienced love from anyone. During their
relationship, Jane learns about Edward s dark past with Bertha. She flees to Thornfield because she
realized she was too dependent on one person. This is the first time she was really ever alone in life.
During her other stages of life she had others to lean on however, for the first time she was finally
independent. Edward constantly challenged Jane to be strong and to stand up for herself. Jane finds
friends and families and ultimately herself during this time. She is later able to return to

Smart Grid Advantages And Disadvantages
When someone inserts a code to a computer that changes the logic, code or data, cybercrimes occur as
a result. The identity or information theft is called cyberattack. Cyberattack is a deliberate maneuver
that people or institutions employ to get information from other people by hacking their systems. USA
and Israel were accused by Iran for making a virus called Stuxnet and deploying it to their nuclear
facility. The virus worked to destroy about a fifth of the nuclear plants. The success came as a result of
the plants spinning out of control. The government also discovered Flame that was used to acquire
private data and information. Kaspersky say that unlike Stuxnet, Flame did not cause any physical
damage, but was used to gather very sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the complex system, the security is in layers that consist of a variety of security barriers. With the
different barriers, the attack may be prevented by a layer. If this does not happen, a response is
triggered and the attacked system is shut down. The system also acquires information of the attacker
through the automated system of audit logs that give proof of who did what and when. The security
ensured by the system is not foolproof but is very efficient and the chances of cyberattacks are few
thus more and more people are able to access power efficiently and with accountability in tow

To gain a better understanding of the connections a counselor can ask questions and present challenges, and this experience confirmed that I still struggle with my confidence in that area. Something that I believe will strengthen my ability in this aspect is to consider my intention behind it and know that the client can handle my questions and challenges, and that I do not have that much power in the room. The client does not need my protection in the room, and my protection can make the situation worse for them. The biggest element of this experimental project was the reconfirmation of we are all humans and just want to be treated with respect. We all have different experiences and identities that have formed who we are, and that does not mean that we need to treat each other differently. Although there were benefits relating to the architectural upgrades and the spread of ideas about politics and the modern world, the forcing of the French culture, division between religions, and the external French motivations were overall not beneficial. The Maghrib is a section of North Africa that includes Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and sometimes parts of Libya. Specifically, Algeria was very important to this region as well as the French who tried to colonize and modernize this region. Along with Tunisia, whose impacts from the French are shown through the travels and experiences of Khayr al Din. Ever since the beginning of the French colonization efforts, the natives of the Maghrib were weary of the concept. The French true motivations are evidenced through their new implementation of laws, cultural integration, and disregard for the religious groups of the region. Originally, the Maghrib architecture was distinctly North African, simple in design, and including ornate mosques. Fez is a grand example of the architecture region and all that it has to offer. The mallah section of Fez involves a lot of traditional North African architecture along with Jewish cultural influences. Although the architecture in this region was stunningly beautiful, when the French came in they upgraded a lot of buildings and public areas. Consequently, the region has a gorgeous mix of French colonial and native architecture. A great example of this resides in a town square where there is a mosque in the center and beautiful French colonial architecture surrounding the rest of the square in Algeria. The French influenced architecture as small as the lamp posts and as big as the grand, efficient highways. Due to this, the roadways and general design and architecture of the region was an incredible blend of ancient North African and modern French architecture. The French did not try to fully push their ideas upon the natives of the Maghrib, but instead brought their ideas with them and let the ideas assimilate with the natives to the degree the natives allowed it to. Origen originated from a Christian home and as a young man he provided for his family by selling his secular books and later on, he began his extraordinary career as a teacher and scholar (Shelley 84). At a very tender age of eighteen years old, leadership was surrendered to him by Clement, the first Christian scholar (Shelley 83). Just as Clement, Origen traced man s thirst for knowledge to the work of God. The desire to bring all truth into God s plan of salvation provided by Christ was Origen s ultimate aim. While under his bishop, Demetrius, he was invited to Athens. While traveling to Athens, he passed through Caesarea, where he accepted ordination to the ministry. In comparison, he stated if we see some admirable work of human art, we are at once eager to investigate the nature, the manner, the end of its production; and the contemplation of the works of God stir us with an incomparably greater longing to learn the principles, the method, the purpose of creation. • 10. Review Of Index Building Methodologies Essay Alexander Khoury 11/7/2014 Review of Index Building Methodologies Introduction: In recent decades, academics, policymakers and non governmental organizations have placed greater focus on establishing more comprehensive metrics of well being and development ##. Measures of national welfare have conventionally centered on a fairly narrow band of economic considerations, such as gross domestic product (GDP) and employment rate. Poverty and wellbeing are now widely understood as multifaceted concepts which cannot be adequately described through measurements of income alone. Economists and development experts are faced with the challenge of constructing metrics to distill the various components of wellbeing into an easily comparable index. The following summarizes the most salient contemporary methods of index construction and provide a brief overview of their strengths and weaknesses. Transformation Functions: In order to build a multi dimensional index it is first necessary to convert the various components deemed relevant into a comparable, aggregatable set of units. That is, to find a way to bring variables like average income (which may be expect to fall in the range of tens of thousands of dollars) and life expectancy (which would rarely exceed 90 years) into the same scale of measurement. The mathematical tools used to accomplish this task are known as transformation functions. We can sort the transformation functions which are relevant to index formation into five ... Protagonist In The Storm What Makes a Protagonist A protagonist is a literary device used to develop a story: the story revolves around the struggle of the protagonist who may undergo a change, usually at the climax (Literary Devices). Using this definition, deciding the protagonist ought to be straightforward; however, if the story follows many characters who undergo some change at the climax of the story, then deciding who the protagonist is will be a bit more complicated. In the story Sweat, Delia can easily be labelled as the protagonist: the story, for the most part, follows her life as she tries to cope with a loveless marriage. She does undergo a change, twice in fact, when she decides not to put up with her husband s abuse, anymore, and when she decides not to help him when he is bitten by a rattlesnake. In The Storm, however, deciding the protagonist is a little more murky. The story focuses on multiple characters and two of the characters undergo a struggle and a change. • 39. Fpl Harvard Business Casw The fourth largest electric utility company in the United States and the largest electric utility in Florida is the FPL Group, which formed in 1925 from the consolidation of several gas and electric companies. FPL as a company continued to grow after 1925 because the ever increasing Florida population demanded more and more electricity. This trend continued until the 1970s when operating problems, and the rising cost of fuel and construction, caused a reduction of the company s profitability. To address this issue, then Chairman Marshall McDonald, decided to make four major acquisitions: Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company, Telesat Cablevision Inc., CBR Information Group Inc., and Turner Foods Corporation. Review of the Literature Within a framework of teaching, educators focus on the nature of knowledge and how students gain that knowledge. There are five established, major educational philosophies. They are behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and perennialism. These philosophies greatly focus on what should be taught. Behavioral learning theories are simply explained as reinforcing behaviors one would like to see repeated. Slavin states, Reinforcement will increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences. (2012, p. 120) The student environment impacts student decisions and learning. Considering the effectiveness of computer mediated communication (CMC) compared to the traditional face to face, there is a larger chance to become addicted to the internet since technological tools have been developed to be conveniently accessible. The wide range of tools offered by different social networking sites can factor into the frequent use of technological tools and the internet. Using Facebook as an example, it can be fairly easy to control the information and media posted onto a user s profile. Burke Ruppel (2015) suggest that for the most part, people have the ability to control the information and pictures they post on Facebook (in addition to controlling the dissemination of others information about them, such as by deleting wall posts or removing tags that identify them in others pictures), giving them the tools to convey a desired impression to others. Being able to control and avoid certain insecurities on their online profile is what makes sites like Facebook display a social medium between text and media posted while conducting research. Communication effectiveness overall in Computer mediated friendships Taking in consideration the amount of time spent on the internet actively engaging with others, it is more than likely that friendship development online will become a common preference amongst adolescences in the foundation of establishing and maintaining relationships.
