Taking a Look at Ski Jumping
The 2014 Olympics held a wide range of competitions for athletes. One of the events, ski jumping,
was part of the Olympics since the first games in 1924. Ski jumping was born in 1860 when
Norwegian Sondre Norheim, built the first measured jump and flew 30 metres. That record held for
more than three decades. Ski jumping is a sport where skiers go down a ramp, jump, attempt to fly as
far as possible, and land safely. Judges give points to skiers for proper technique and style, but those
points do not add much to the total as the distance contributes to the majority of the scoring. Over the
last 100 years, ski jumping has changed enormously due to the new technology made available. The
modern sport involves a extreme amount of practice, patience and confidence. The sport is very
popular, but also very dangerous. Factors like wind can severely effect a skiers score.
The top of the hill is the start. There is a bar at the top that the jumper sits on while they are waiting
and getting ready. Once ready, the ski jumper will lean forward and will naturally start accelerating
down the pre made path on the platform. The in run usually has an angle of 38o to 36o, which then
turns into the jump at the end of the run. The end of the run usually has an angle between 7o and 12o
downhill. The ground after the jump is precisely made so the jumper is never over 6 meters over the
ground. This measure is in place so if the jumper loses balance, they will not fall very far before

Citigroup and Subprime Lending Case Study
Citigroup and Subprime Lending Unit 7 Case Study Pg 714 716 1. Are there moral concerns
associated with subprime lending? Are those moral concerns based on utilitarianism, rights, or justice
considerations? Before we discuss the first question let s get a working description of what subprime
leaning is. A subprime lender is financial entity that has an inclination to lend to consumers that are
not qualified for traditional loans due to their poor credit status and history of repayment difficulties.
Lending to subprime candidates helped lead to secondary mortgage market issue sin 2008 ( Subprime
lender, 2011). A subprime loan is a loan with elevated fees and interest, given to someone with a lower
credit score ( Subprime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic liberties such as freedom of speech and rights such as equal opportunity are fundamental
concepts that express consideration of freedom, autonomy and basic equality. Rights may be derived
from moral principles or may be established through political choice. Rights are often categorized as
positive or negative (Baron, 2010). In this case I would say that some basic rights of the consumers
may have been violated by CitiFinancial because they were not completely up front about the small
print that told the true story about the consolidation loans. Other moral philosophies emphasize
justice, which requires comparisons of situations of individuals. Justice theories are concerned with
how different individuals stand relative to each other on dimensions including, but not limited to,
rights, liberties and consequences. The three principal categories of justice theories are distributive,
compensatory and retributive. Distributive justice is concerned with providing incentives to contribute
to well being in society and with providing a fair and just distribution of the rewards of those
contributions. Compensatory justice is concerned with determining how individuals should be
compensated for the harm done by others. Retributive justice is concerned with punishment of actions
that are contrary to a moral rule or societal well being. Retributive justice may be used to justify
deterring harmful actions (Baron, 2010).

A Comparison of the Attitudes Shown in The Man He Killed...
A Comparison of the Attitudes Shown in The Man He Killed By Tomas Hardy and in My Last
Duchess by Robert Browning
The attitudes shown in the two poems The Man he Killed by Tomas Hardy and My Last Duchess
Robert by Browning are very different; where as Hardy creates a modest, baffled character who feels
very guilty, Browning s Duke is a vain, proud man who has killed his wife in a premeditated manner.
These characteristics are also revealed through the poet s use of stanza, structure and language
choices.
Both of the poems are about killing In the Man He Killed the solider feels very guilty for his actions;
this is evident when he says;

If he was put in that position again then he might shoot to kill somebody to save his life. However In

The men both display different attitudes towards their actions.
In the poems the Duke is haughty and dismissive and in the man he killed the solider is very humble.
And regretful. In the Man he Killed another key difference between the two poems are the attitudes

The langue he used is very basic and monosyllabic, and he is also very agitated about what he has

The simple language shows how he is struggling to come to terms with what he has done. In My Last

The Secret Truth About Napping Analysis
Sometimes I think that sleeping isn t important because I thought that sleep wouldn t help your body.
Well I was wrong to say that because it does help your body. The amount of sleep you get each day
impacts over the course of your life. I was asked if sleep had a huge impact on your health. Well my
answer is yes it does have a huge impact. Some people don t have enough hours of sleep, some have
too much, and some don t know how much their suppose to sleep. Despite the fact that some people
think that sleep isn t important, I m going to prove that sleep is important According to Source 1, if
you routinely lose sleep or choose to sleep less then needed, the sleep loss will add up. The total sleep
loss is like your sleep debt. For example, if you lose 2 hours of sleep each night, you ll have a sleep
debt f 14 hours after a week. Some people night take naps as a way to deal with sleepiness. Naps can

They also think that only little children should take naps. Their wrong if they think that only little
children should take naps. My reason is that there is evidence that napping can benefit people of all
ages. Many famous historical figures take naps. Napping helps people deal with stress and it could
renew a person s energy. For example, if the brilliant scientist Albert Einstein didn t take naps he
would ve never had invented the light bulb. If the amazing artist Leonardo Da Vinci didn t take naps,
eh would ve been too sleepy to paint the Mona Lisa. The human body operates according to the

Introduction . In High Acute Settings, Such As Intensive
Introduction
In high acute settings, such as intensive care units essential nursing care such as oral care is very vital
to prevent life threatening complications such as nosocomial acquired, Ventilator Associated
Pneumonia (VAP), and also most patients in intensive care are on oral intubation, and medications
such as anticholinergics, antihypertensives, which may lead to xerostomia (dry mouth). One of the
challenging nosocomial infections is VAP, and a leading cause of mortality in hospital patients in high
acuity settings (Jones, 2007). The development of VAP is occurred due to mechanical ventilation,
longer ICU stays and longer intubation periods, increasing the mortality of ICU patients to as high as
70 per cent (Jones, 2007). Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which may further lead to prioritising oral care as a less priority for nurses than other aspects of care
(H. Jones et al., 2004). In turn, even the tapes that are used in the fixation of the tube quickly become
heavily contaminated with the bacterium in the existence of salivary secretions and the hitches
associated with cleaning the mouth (Abidia, 2007). So, they have greater susceptibility to nosocomial
acquired infections such as ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) (Zurmehly, 2013). Patients who
are intubated are also forced to keep their mouths open which leads to xerostomia, caused due to
dryness of oral mucosa (Miranda, de Paula, de Castro Piau, Costa, Bezerra, 2016). Furthermore,
patients who may have some medical conditions have oral manifestations such as diabetes, Crohn s
disease, Leukaemia (H. Jones et al., 2004). In order to prevent these life threatening complications, it
is important to prioritise oral care as an essential nursing priority in high acuity settings by doing
appropriate and more frequent oral assessments followed by mouth care with an evidence based
approach.
Oral Assessment
To initiate interventions, patients oral care requirements are to be identified. To process and evaluate,
assessment needs to be performed. Evidence suggested oral assessment should be performed using a
checklist within the 24 hours

The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s was a series of sit ins, boycotts, freedom rides, and marches.
They were all used as ways to peacefully protest the fight for freedom and equality for all. These
events took place to try and stop the discrimination and racism of all people but especially people of
color. A major leader and influencer of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement was Martin Luther King Jr.,
whom along with many others, participated in many of the peaceful protests and marches put together
by the people of the Freedom Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. brought new perspective to the
whole fight for freedom through his iconic I Have a Dream speech. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of
the most recognized and well known advocates, but there were also many others that led protests and
were involved in the movement. Some were into peaceful protests like Rosa Parks, but others wanted
to take a more aggressive and loud approach like W.E.B. Du Bois. There were many historical events
that shaped the Civil Rights Movement, and these events were the foundations for the Civil Rights Act
and the Voting Rights Act. The Montgomery bus boycotts, the freedom rides, and the Selma marches
were some of the most memorable major contributing events to the series of protests in the fight for
Civil Rights. The Montgomery bus boycotts were a series of protests against the Alabama public
transportation system due to the unruly arrest of Rosa Parks. In Montgomery, Alabama the buses of

Tld-400 Final Paper
The manufacture and process of TLD 400 produces small variations. Each TLD varies in size and
composition; even within the same batch they were produced, meaning they are not all entirely
identical. Because of these discrepancies, each TLD will have a characteristic response that will differ
from the response of other TLDs. To compensate, every TLD element is assigned a correction factor.
This correction factor is called the Element Correction Coefficient (ECC). The ECC is determined by
the following equation: ECC = / Qj is the average sum of charge in nano coulombs (nC) of all the
calibrated TLDs. Qj is the total charge for a specific TLDj, also in nano coulombs (nC). Twenty three

Gun Control Regulations Act Of 1975
Aurora, Newtown, Chattanooga, and Lafayette have recently been the settings of dreadful tragedies.
Each of these catastrophes results in select politicians, and even President Barrack Obama, demanding
Gun control across the United States of America. Some anti gun activists desire stricter gun laws,
while other anti gun activists have acquired aspirations for a ban on all guns across the nation. They
claim that the Second Amendment is outdated, and that we will be safer in the complete absence of
firearms. This has been, and continues to be, a popular topic of discussion especially with the
Presidential Race coming upon us. This highly debated subject can be summarized into one question;
does gun control work? The first manner of business in discovering the answer to this question would
consist of analyzing the eligible statistics. Our nation s capital, Washington D.C., enacted some of the
strictest gun control laws in the United States. This was known as the Firearms Control Regulations
Act of 1975. This act prohibited residents from owning handguns, automatic firearms, and high
capacity firearms. The Supreme Court, in 2008, ruled the act a violation of the Second Amendment
resulting in the regulations being dropped. Within the 33 year time frame that these firearm
regulations were being enforced, Washington D.C. experienced a drastic increase in violent crime.

The Environmental And Environmental Impacts Of The Fast...
The fashion industry has changed a lot since ancient times and the 1800s. The way fabric was traded
and made is different now. The fabrics in past decades were more natural and handmade. More
recently fabrics have changed to a manmade or synthetic fabric. These fabrics pollute the environment
and make it harder for people to live.
Many people buy cheap clothes from chain clothing stores, like forever 21, H M, and Zara. Although
these clothes are cheap, these clothes have a big backstory before they get to the stores. They have lots
of reasons why these clothes are so cheap. There is a term for clothes that are made from overseas, by
workers who are paid less. It called Fast Fashion, fast fashion are clothes are cheaper and are usually
low quality (Ojiala). Fast fashion has been developing over the past two decades(Pagotto). Many of
the brands that support the fast fashion trend release 18 collections a year ( Cris in Our Closets ). The
Fast fashion industry provides marketplaces with inexpensive clothes for most young women (Luz).
Fast fashion has a big impact on the environment and on the employees of the fashion industry. The
environment is deteriorating because of the fabric and clothes in the industry. The fast fashion industry

mother was a housewife Most of his childhood he spent building things. Often times he would build
gadgets for example a cart with steering that worked backwards by mistake. He then went to Hamilton
College, where he developed a passion for writing. He tried to make writing a profession after
graduating but he had no success in it. When Skinner was the age of 24 he enrolled in Harvard
University to study Psychology. In his time there he constructed the cumulative recorder, a mechanical
device that recorded every response as an upward movement of a horizontally moving line. In 1936
when Skinner was thirty two years old he married Yvonne Blue and the couple moved to Minnesota.
Around this time Skinner was busy with his family and did not really advance in the science he did

Dancer in the Dark Film Review Essay
If I was to reduce my description of Dancer in the dark to one word, it would be daring. Its immediate
effect on me was stronger than that of maybe any other film I ve ever seen. It shook me, stirred my
emotions, made me think and reflect, it disturbed me in the most positive sense of the word and it still
does. Its radical make, boldness and consistency exceeds all expectations and probably everything that
s come before. This is the perfect example of a director s vision uncompromisingly realized.

Selma, however, harbours a dark secret. She is afflicted with a hereditary blinding disease that eats
away at her sight as she grows older. She works horrendous hours of every day and night to save up to
pay for an operation that will give her son the chance of a life free of blindness. Selma is saved from
the crushing sadness of her existence by music. Music she hears on the factory floor, the passing train,
echoed footfalls, the air shaft in the wall. Every time she hears or feels a beat she imagines herself
breaking into a spontaneous song and dance routine like she had seen so many times in her childhood.
Any rhythmic sound source is likely to elevate her to the world of musicals. Sounds of her
surroundings are the bass line to an extravagant musical fantasy world, this not only allows her to
break away from the horrors of the situations she finds herself in, but also allows Von Trier to briefly
break away from the confines of his Dogma. As the movie progresses we get to witness her life
crumbling and falling apart around her.
There are many aspects about Dancer in the Dark that make it stand out so distinctly. Relating to the
songs, the first phrase that came to my mind after seeing the film was: a musical for people who
dislike musicals. The whole mood and depressing atmosphere formed a contrast to what we think of
when we hear musical. In addition, the songs were not embedded realistically in the film (that s

computers would be a used for as a part of crime or they might be targeted. Net wrongdoing alludes to
criminal utilization of the Internet. Cyber crimes are characterized into two components and it can
defined as offenses that bounds people or group of people with a criminal motive to purposefully
effect the fame of the victim or cause any physical or mental harm to the person by utilizing current
telecommunication systems such as Internet, messages, cell phones etc., Cyber forensics investigation
requires collecting, examining, operating and reporting of information. The best possible way of
collecting and examining the information helps examiner to determine better security
countermeasures. Through the execution of information, storage devices and modern networks

local popularity among visitors to Naples who would went into the poorer sections to taste the dish
made by men called pizzaioli. Pizza started to gain more popularity, but was not at the level where it

managed to be acknowledge by the people of Naples and pizza was sold in the streets in Naples at
breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The popularity got to the point where stalls were set up where the
customers could custom order their pizza to suit what they wanted. The stalls soon developed into the

America Needs Media Censorship Essay
America Needs Media Censorship
Introduction
In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a
normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did
this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of
society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world
has become desensitized to the acts shown on television, movies, video games or printed in
newspapers and magazines. Censorship must be employed if morals and decency are to be preserved.
Censorship is a controversial word that has been with us since who knows when. Ancient dictators

Evidence that shows censorship may be positive is explained when we examine what drives
delinquent activity. ?To see this, we must take a look at what is inside the mind of a criminal. Eighty
one percent of criminals rate pornography as their highest sexual interest. This means that a clear
majority of criminals like pornography and find it highly interesting. Most other people probably rank
other human beings as their highest sexual interest.? Further evidence of the relation between
pornography and crime is seen when an adult bookstore is closed; the crime rate in the surrounding
areas falls significantly. With this we see that censorship is a helpful idea for America. People don?t
realize that violence on television or video games does have effect on them. Take, for example, the
video game ?James Bond,? one of the highest selling games ever. This games put you in the eyes of an
assailant and makes killing look like fun, or that its no big deal. Another example is sex on T.V. A boy
that has been brought up with never watching sexual explicate material or being surrounded by people
that talk about sexual activities, would be less likely to be as interested in the practice of sex, as a kid
that watches porno all the time, making him less likely to commit a sexual crime. ?A lot of people in
the world are against censorship just for the mere reason they say it?s unconstitutional;? they believe it

Resistance in a Wire Coursework
Resistance in a Wire Coursework In this investigation we are trying to look for resistance in a piece of

(thickness) temperature material What things can affect the resistance in a wire? The temperature can
affect the resistance in a wire, because the more thermal energy a component has the more the atoms

The thickness of the wire decreases. Once you have figured out the thickness of the wire (length x
width), you will be able to calculate the ohms law. Prediction My prediction for this experiment is,
once the length of the wire increases, so will the resistance. What my results show me My results
show me that once the readings on the ammeter and the voltage increase, so will the resistance,
because of this we decided to increase the length of wire used by 10cm each time a reading was
recorded. Method 1. Set up the series circuit. 2. Connect the crocodile clip to 30cm along the wire. 3.
Switch on the power supply. 4. Record readings from the ammeter and voltmeter. 5. Switch off the
power supply. 6. Repeat the stages of 2 6 three times at length 30cm intervals up to 1 metre. What I
did and why I kept my experiment a fair test in the following ways: I did not change any parts of the
circuit (wires, ammeter, voltmeter or battery pack) in between the measurements this would have
prevented small discrepancies between circuit components from affecting the results. When taking the
measurements from the voltmeter and ammeter, I waited for the reading to settle completely. If it didn
t settle, then I would have made an estimate of the middle value being shown. Waiting for the reading
to settle prevented accidentally taking a reading while the value is fluctuating randomly when the
power is first turned

youth who have access to a wide array of resources provided to them. This may include more teachers,
which have a higher standards of testing, the teachers who are trained exclusively in provincially
accredited teachers colleges aren t trained properly...to teach in our schools and our kids have been
suffering for way too long as a result (Barrera, J. ATPN National News, para. 21). There seems to be
multiple sub categories that Aboriginal youth within Canada today are confronted with; isolation,
depression, suicide, racism, bulling, hate crimes, poverty, substance abuse, crime, and mistrust of the
education system due to colonialism, lack of a support systems and a lack of confidence to further
their education with the absence of empowerment in their current environment. This is a systemic
cycle that has certainly not been resolved and continues to be a hardship for the First Nations society.
Considering these multifaceted elements that add to First Nations adolescent barriers of the non equal
educational opportunities or privileges as other adolescents in Canada. Therefore what are the next
steps to prevail for the Aboriginal peoples, is there anything that can be held accountable or done?

The Innovator s Dilemm Case Study
Introduction to the Book The Premise The book The Innovator s Dilemma talks about how the well
managed companies often fail to stay at the top when they confront certain types market and
technological changes. The book not only talks about small or any one company, but those companies
which are big and well known for their offerings and timely innovations. There are many factors that
lead companies to stumble. They are bureaucracy, arrogance, tired executives, poor planning, short
term investment horizons, inadequate skills and resources and sometimes just a bad luck. In the book,
the author have not talked about the weak companies, but the ones that are doing well off in the
industry with top level competitors, who listen to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sustaining technologies improve the products and services which help in achieving the same result but
in a better way. This helps the customers to understand the value of improvement. Sustaining
technologies are easier to use in already established firms than in new emerging firms. They focus on
improved quality and refine service over the period of time which leads to increase in cost but is
justifiable. Disruptive Technologies Disruptive technologies are the ones that bring different value
preposition to the market. They are usually cheaper and underperform the products in mainstream
markets. Being cheaper, disruptive technologies are also simpler, smaller and more convenient to use
too. They are usually technologically straight forward and capture emerging markets. As disruptive
technologies improve faster, this serves as a danger to established firms because they are so rapid that
by the time you know about them, they have had already grown up and are cheaper and better than
other competitors in the market. Principles of Disruptive Innovations The author have offered five
principles which would help the managers and entrepreneurs to deal with disruptive technologies. 1.
Companies depend on customers and investors for resources. Customers and investors are company s
value network and the companies make their decisions on the basis of their value network. Disruptive
technologies come up with different value, so the existing customers who are generally

The And The Bible
Introduction
For centuries predestination has been a meticulously discussed subject which causes many divides in
opinion due to some verses in the Bible being potentially ambiguous or contradictory and it is
therefore necessary to look at this ancient text as a whole in order to get an accurate understanding.
Predestination is a significant topic as it brings into question the nature of the traditional Judeo
Christian God who has long been seen as omniscient (possessing universal and complete knowledge),
omnibenevolent (infinitely good and all loving), omnipotent (all powerful) and immanent
(permanently interacting with the universe). For some, the idea of having a supreme god and yet a sin
filled world is either impossible or simply means that this god is the father of all evils . Could it be
that God is the alpha and the omega (the beginning and the end) but not the intermediate because he
lacks the power, knowledge and love to regulate this world which has been spiralling out of control
since the Fall of Man in Genesis 3? Another reason as to why it is significant is that it will reveal to us
whether we are accountable for our actions or whether God s sovereignty takes precedence over our
culpability. The examination can be fragmented into two opposing perspectives, Calvinism and
Arminianism, which both try to explain the predicament of predestination in regards to seven key
areas: sovereignty, man s depravity, election, Christ s atonement, grace, man s will and

Abortion, An Act Of Killing
Abortion has been a topic of ethics for as long as time can remember. Abortion is a difficult and
controversial moral issue that most have dealt with or heard about. Most would argue that no one has
the right to demand large sacrifices from another simply to sustain their own lives, while others see
abortion as an act of killing, which is clearly wrong. Both sides have important moral insights, even if
ultimately these insights are outweighed by the insights of the other side. Each and every person has
their own viewpoint that is biased simply because of their religion or how they were raised. Opinions
are passed on generation to generation and each generation with a more developed educated view
attempts to change these views. The goal of this ethical argument is not to convince to accept one
position or the other, but to help to understand both sides.
Without knowledge of both sides, the argument continues. Beware of the labels Pro life and Pro
choice. They imply that the other side is against life or against choice. They ignore the nuances in a
person s position. There are two principal moral considerations. People consider the moral status of
the fetus and on the other hand the rights of the pregnant woman. There are distinctions to whether it
is immorally wrong or if it should be illegal. These are distinct issues. Not everything that is immoral
is necessarily illegal. We may, for example, want to say that being unfaithful in one s marriage is
immoral, but we

The Lion King is considered a classic and one of the greatest animated films of all time. Many say that
it draws on the epicness of its source material, William Shakespeare s timeless play Hamlet . While
the themes of revenge and death are represented in Lion King , it is toned down in order to appeal to
the primary target audience of children. One message directed towards the audience of children and
adults is how natural enemies can cooperate and even become friends, as evidenced in the friendship
of Timon, Pumbaa, and Simba. Simba, the prince of Pride Rock, is destined to be the King after his
father, but the representative of manipulation and evil, Simba s uncle Scar, stages a takeover by

Disadvantages Of Distance Education
1. Introduction Distance education (e.g., online course programs, e learning programs), have presented
challenges for both students and instructors, leading to extensive research on the tenets of what
constitutes quality learning in the differing virtual settings (Boling, Hough, Krinsky, Saleem, Stevens,
2012; Oncu, Cakir, 2011). Preference of online learning has become the norm for over 25% of
students who enroll in an online course at some point during the completion of an undergraduate,
graduate or postsecondary level degree (Young, Bruce, 2011; Elaine Allen, Seaman, 2007). Data

Instructors gravitate towards systematized teaching approaches online in an effort to reduce confusion
and increase course completion (Jimoyiannis, 2012). However little research has shown a direct link
between course completion and structured organization of course content (Mayadas, Bourne, Bacsich,
2009). Studies over the past decade instead suggest bridging traditional face to face (F2F) classroom
norms in an online setting by building community in an effort to infuse proponents of social learning
(Young, Bruce, 2011; Cheung, Liu, Lee, 2015; Garrison, Cleveland Innes, Fung, 2010). Researchers
have argued that what motivates students to acquire new knowledge are interpersonal interactions
within a classroom environment (Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Yu, Tian, Vogel, Chi Wai
Kwok, 2010).
Findings have indicated that students desire for elements of personal agency have not changed
(Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Kuo, Walker, Schroder, Belland, 2014). Zhan, Mei (2013)
connected student satisfaction with interpersonal elements of online learning environments, indicating
that students preferred online course options which incorporated social elements. Additional studies
exploring academic outcomes and increased presence of instructors and student discussions have
found that students motivation have been impacted by the level of interaction experienced by the
student (Robinson, 2011; Harmon,

As the old saying goes, in this world nothing can be said to be sure, except death and taxes. Even
everyone knows their life must have an end, but most of them still fear the death. In the short stories,
A Drowning by Mark Ferguson and Red Bean Ice by Nancy Lee, authors have demonstrated the
reaction and feeling of people to death. In these two stories, the characters are unlike the other person
when death comes. They are both calm facing to death, and they are all insisting their hope. However,
the reaction of people around them for their death is different. Firstly, both of characters in the short
stories are very calm before their death. In the story A Drowning , the narrator in a boat saw a man

Ancient China was extremely advanced and many of its discoveries are still in use today s world.
Perhaps the Chinese has contributed more to the advancement of human kind than any other ancient
culture. They have contributed to our world civilization s achievements in the fields of agriculture,

inventions such as gunpowder, silk, paper, printing, tea, wheel barrow, iron plows, deep drilling,

The instrument resembled a spoon which when placed on a plate on the ground, the handle points to
the south. This enabled the compass to be used for sea navigation for the first time ( The Compass ,

would be lost. Besides the continued use in hiking and boating, the compass is now used in vehicles.
GPS systems Global Positioning Systems in vehicles are just re modulated compasses. Of course, its
primary use is still navigation. It is intriguing to reflect on the fact that an item invented century ago is
still useful in modern life.

Contraceptives And Birth Control
Contraceptives or birth control are methods that prevent unplanned pregnancies but are also used
promote family planning, reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and treat
cosmetic and gynecological conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent,
about 45% of all pregnancies in 2011 were unplanned in the United States, which was a 51% decline
since 2008.1 Of those about 50% resulted without birth control use and the other half reported using a
method of birth control. In addition, of the 45% of unplanned pregnancies, higher rates are seen in
adolescents and ethnic minorities, which leads to an increase risk for poor maternal and infant
outcomes and an increase in abortions across the globe.2 According to the World Health Organization
(WHO), 16 million births to mothers aged 15 19 years old were reported in 2008.3 This represented
11% of births worldwide and of these births 95% were in developing countries.3 The 2014 World
Health Statistics reported that the average global birth rate for 15 19 year old girls is 4.9%, where the
rates are the highest in sub Saharan Africa.4 Although there is no universal trend toward early
initiation of sexual activity, the higher rate of pregnancies seen in teens, adolescents, and ethnic
minorities can be related to cultural influences, gender and social norms, lack of sexual and primary
education, improper use of contraceptives, and/or the restricted access of reproductive health care
services.3

Taking a Look at Poltergeist
Poltergeist are loud supernatural ghosts that are not something you want to mess with. Have you ever
had the bed shake unexpectedly? Or have the power go out when there s a not even a storm? Or
maybe even had some disappearing objects... Well this could be the result of a Poltergeist. We believe
that Poltergeists are real. (MOLLY)
Poltergeist hauntings have been going on for a very long time. Several historical poltergeist cases have
been well documented. One of the first poltergeist cases was the Thornton Heath Poltergeist Case. One
August night the family was woken in the middle of the night by their radio, which had somehow
turned itself on. The radio was turned to the foreign language station. At christmas time an ornament
was taken off the tree by an unseen presence, and thrown a the fathers forehead. Near new years eve
footsteps were heard in the attic. Accounts of poltergeist encounters have been happening since this
time. People in history probably wouldn t lie about there being a ghost in their house. If it was just a
made up thing how would so many people have evidence of poltergeist? So do you believe
poltergeists are real? (CLAIRE)
Poltergeists center people usually that are teens. Their attacks are usually towards people that have
sadness in their life and depression. They are life like creatures that throw things, scratch you, and just
wreck your house. They are not nice to you and can last anywhere from 3 hours to 3 years it can be
super short or super long.

The Myth Of The Atlantis
Atlantis , one of the most fascinating enigmas of the past, has never ceased to fascinate and make the
world dream. 2400 years after this myth was built by the Greek philosopher Plato, researchers revived
the ancient legend of this lost paradise myth. The origin of the myth goes back of course to Plato who
describes the Atlantis as a civilization barbaric, greedy luxury and whose decadence provoked the
anger of the gods who, punishment, caused a cataclysm that engulfs the city. But, researchers and
scientists evidence prove that Atlantis is only a myth.

The Sound and the Fury Essay
The Sound and the Fury
Title:
The title of this novel is The Sound and the Fury. This title is derived from one of Shakespeare s most
intriguing plays, Macbeth. Within Macbeth, Shakespeare describes life as a tale told by an idiot, full of
sound and fury. And if life is a tale told by an idiot, there is justification as to of why Faulkner begins
the book through the eyes of Benjy, a thirty three year old retard.
Author:
The author of The Sound and the Fury is William Faulkner. He grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. After
dropping out of high school, Faulkner pursued his studies at the University of Mississippi. And he was

This eventually leads him to commit suicide. He is the only character in the novel who is obsessed
with honor and sexuality. And when he can t find any love from his mother, he turns to Caddy.
Quentin does not want to forget how he handled Caddy s promiscuity because he believes that if he
were to forget the entire experience would be meaningless although he is haunted by it. And in the
end, Quentin commits suicide by drowning himself in the river.
The next major character of this novel is Jason Compson. And the third section of the book is seen
through his eyes and revolves around him. From this section, the reader learns that Jason is a selfish,
demented, and emotionless bachelor who would never give in to the idea of marriage. Jason is selfish
in that he believes that he is always right and that the world should work the way that fits him best. He
is demented in that he enjoys quarreling with people. One good example of this is when he arrives to
work late in hopes that he will have the chance to argue with his boss. And he is emotionless in that he
doesn t feel for anyone and doesn t believe in love.
The next major character found in the book is Dilsey. And although the last section is from the author
s point of view, it revolves around Dilsey, the cook for the Compson family. She treats Benjy like a
normal person and assumes that his needs are the same as the rest

Despite the radicalized economic, social, and political dimensions of US immigration, policymakers
like President Obama continue to sustain a singular view of US immigration that I have argued is
oriented around a white and European immigration experience. By revealing how Chinese, Japanese,

Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast
Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that Savitar uses the speed
force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force allows him to break the time barrier.
Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time travel. In the second to last episode of the Flash that
premiered before this article was written(which was the seventh episode of the third season) Savitar
demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and reappearing in different
places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the characters assume that Savitar is, in fact, running
fast enough for Barry s suit tracker to show that he is seemingly teleporting. Here is where my theory
comes into play. What if Cisco and the rest of Team Flash are wrong? ... Show more content on

I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically different than the way
that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry uses the speed force is a topic for a different
day, but he clearly does not use it in the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think that Savitar
teleports by breaking the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal into the speed
force, enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing. What Savitar seems
to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal, and then emerging at a point in
space of his choosing. This explains why everything looks like it does in the speed force when Savitar
runs. It looks like Savitar is in the speed force because he is in the speed force. This means that Savitar
may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if we attribute his victory over Barry in the
beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught off guard and Barry being distracted by both
Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the people around him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast

Architecture And Design Of The Modern Era
As individuals, we all have multifarious requirements for the buildings we use and the places we live
in, work and socialise in needs to mirror this diversity. In other words, to suit whatever purpose we
require from the structure and to make sure it functions as the designer envisaged.
Construction methods are constantly changing, and yet we can still appreciate the beauty, charm and
graceful lines of architecture dating back hundreds of years. This includes magnificent buildings of the
modern period as well as the traditional historical ones, brought to us from across the world by the
medium of pictures, either as moving images or stills.
Artists of each progressive era found these buildings a source of fascination, as they revealed a breath
taking beauty in the urban landscape.
It can be argued that architecture and design have proved more significant in the establishment of
cultures as civilisations developed. For the vast majority of the population, buildings are what they
saw and used in their everyday lives, it was either a place they lived in, worked in or sometimes
visited. Generally it was only the rich and privileged and this included religious establishments who
saw, and more importantly appreciated what was known as art . The general population was fairly
ambiguous to art and the aesthetics of architecture by adopting a more pragmatic view of their
surroundings. For most of them it did not excite their intellect, as they were more concerned about
order and

The Importance Of Happiness Is The Key To A Perfect Life
I once was told by my mother, happiness is the key to a perfect life . Throughout my life, I have
carried that statement in my heart. Those few words have taught me how valuable the little things in
life truly are. Some of the little things in life that allow me to be the happiest person I can be are the
following: My boyfriend Dominic, family, my dog Riley, and Netflix. Dominic brings out my
happiness by always makes sure I don t go a minute without smiling. If it wasn t for my family, I
wouldn t be where I am today and I m incredibly happy with how much they push me to be the best I
can be. When I m sad, my dog always knows how to cheer me up by licking my tears away or she lays
next to me and watches Netflix. Netflix makes me happy due to the fact that I don t have to do
anything but lay back and enjoy a funny movie or show with the people I love. These things are what
make my world go around every day.
Anytime that I am feeling stressed or down, Netflix cheers me up. Netflix allows me to sit back and
relax. Watching the tv provider, allows me to forget all my problems, and allows me to watch other
people have problems. Netflix to me is like a bottle of milk to a baby because its calms me down,
takes the stress away, and overall just makes me a happier person. The best part about watching
Netflix is when my dog Riley lays next to me to watch the other animals on the tv.
The best part of life, is owning an animal. Animals, such as dogs, are proven to help relieve stress

Gary Ridgeway An American Serial Killer Who Has Made The Us
Gary Ridgeway an American serial killer who has made the U.S. panic in the start of the mid 1980 s
and was sentenced in the year 2001. Ridgeway had an infatuation with prostitutes but still tried to live
the Godly life he was trying to portray as well. He was undergoing various tribulations by killing the
prostitutes after he had sexual intercourse with them it was an excitement to him. He always wanted to
know what it would feel like to kill someone he once said and then chuckled right after.
His physiological mind comes off in various vibes leaving you confused; but many looked and
believed he was the perfect neighbor . In 1980 is when they started finding woman s bodies and by
1986 they already found thirty six bodies believing Gary Ridgeway was a suspect but was not
sentenced than. Much of his childhood along with what his household was like in his younger years,
somewhat made him out to be the man he is today a sexual homicide offender . His interactions he had
with his mother and father led him to be an angry child at times. His mother would dress and undress
inappropriately in front of him causing him either to be sexually aroused or calling her a whore. While
his father and he would engage in sexual activities which led Ridgeway to become interested in
necrophilia becoming aroused by killing his victims.
This than puts him in the category of psychological profiling and noticing how Gary Ridgeway reacts
in his crimes he conducts reacting off the basic premise

Bodies At Rest
Bodies in Motion and at Rest So I m over at the Hortons with my stretcher and minivan and my able
apprentice, young Matt Sheffler, because they found old George, the cemetery sexton, dead in bed this
Thursday morning in ordinary time. And the police have been in to rule out foul play and the EMS
team to run a tape so some ER doctor wired to the world can declare him dead at a safe distance. And
now it s ours to do Matt s and mine to ease George from the bed to the stretcher, negotiate the sharp
turn at the top of the stairs, and go out the front door to the dead wagon idling in the driveway and
back to the funeral home from whence he ll take his leave waked and well remembered a Saturday

opening or closing graves, George could be counted for tidy answers. Self schooled in the Ways of the
World, he confined his reading to the King James Bible, The Wall Street Journal, Golf Digest, the
Victoria s Secret catalog and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. He watched C SPAN, The
Home Shopping Network and The Weather Channel. Most afternoons he d doze off watching Oprah,
with whom he was, quite helplessly, in love. On quiet days he d surf the Web or check his portfolio on

Weekday mornings he had coffee with the guys at the Summit Café before making the rounds of the
half dozen cemeteries he was in charge of. Wednesdays and Saturdays he d mostly golf. Do the math I
heard him give out with once from the cab of his backhoe for no apparent reason. He was backfilling a

Aristotle s Characteristic Perspectives Of Happiness
Many individuals attempt to characterize and consider diverse meanings of what happiness is, and I
believe that Plato and Aristotle offer intriguing perspectives of happiness and what it implies for one
to live a good life with great things surrounded by himself. Our two Philosophers concur that
happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to carry on with a
decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose, or goal. For
example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best understands what a chair
is. True happiness is when we see an end in itself which is supreme good . However, it is very
important to identify the true happiness from the false happiness. This confusion might lead us to a
life in a bubble with lot of imaginations.
It is very true that Happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue . Having a good job, loving wife,
and awesome lifestyle does not mean that someone has true happiness, but morally and spiritually
sound, good qualities, kindness, honesty, etc. Like Aristotle says main door(hallmark) for true
happiness which is virtue is achieved by how we maintain the mean which is how we balance two
excesses. (1106a 24 29) In Simple plan even though Hank had all those great achievements in his life
to be successful such as wife, house. Job, vehicle, he does not have a pure heart. That is why once he
saw the large amount of money he started showing

Religion s Reflection in Architecture
How have architectural styles reflected the philosophies, religions, and politics of various cultures
throughout history?
I would like to focus my discussion on religion s reflection in architecture and hope it will not be too
lengthy.
Religion forms the foundation of cultural identity and has decisively shaped world civilizations based
on differing, but not exclusive, views of ultimate value: mercy and benevolence in Buddhism,
morality and ethics in Confucianism, respect in Shintoism, devotion and mystical unity of divine Self
in Hinduism, obedience and perseverance in Judaism, love for the Creator and one s fellowman in
Christianity, and submission to the will of Allah in Islam.

The product of two streams of development, one in the Mediterranean and the other in south central
Asia, Muslim architecture is fundamentally centered upon worship. At its heart is the mosque, whose
characteristic domes, minarets, and stylized decorative art encouraged contemplation and prayer.
After the destruction of the Temple and dispersal of Jews from Israel in 70 C.E., Judaism focused on
family ritual and synagogues that housed prayer sanctuaries which faced Jerusalem. By the fifth and
sixth centuries, many Arabs respected the non sexualized symbols of Judaism, its ascetic monotheism,
and the Jewish devotion to family life and education. The Arabs called the Jews People of the Book,
and Jews and Arabs lived side by side in peace.

The Importance Of Volunteering In The Community
Volunteering in the community helps develop a connection with the community. Communities are
people who help one another to make an impact in someone s life. Giving back to those that helped
one previously can make a difference. Giving up a few hours during the week to volunteer at a
summer reading program at the community library can bring joy in some child s life. Supporting and
helping younger children learn in our community brings me pride. Volunteering is a way to give back
to your community and gain work experience at the same time. On Thursdays from 6:00 8:00, my
sister and I volunteer at Norther Tier Library supporting the summer reading program. The program
involves children from birth to 18 years old. Each age group receives ... Show more content on

Helping the local library in the summer reading program is an effective way to give back to the
community. The most satisfying part of the reading program was when children came to report on
books they read. We used the computers to fill out the information, give prizes, and stamps. We often
ask about the books they read to hear the children explain and report on the book and if they enjoyed
reading the book. The most challenging part of the reading program is when several children came at
once. Since there are only two volunteers helping during each time when several children come in at
once it can be difficult to help each child like we would like. The reading program is over in the
middle of August, I expect to continue participating until the end of the program. Volunteering for the
summer reading program was pleasing to me and I gained a fresh perspective of discovering my
passion for teaching. Some other ways people can educate and raise awareness of reading in the
summer could be hosting summer book clubs, school reading programs, or take home reading books
to promote continued reading throughout the school year. Alexander et al. (2007) states, teachers
typically spend between 4 to 6 weeks re teaching material to students who have forgotten it over the
summer (Alexander et al. 2007). Many teachers must review several lessons and skills with children
who do not continue to use these

John Cena s Accomplishments
A man that can lift nearly 700 pounds can be admired for his strength alone. A man that grants over
500 Make a Wish wishes can be admired for compassion alone. A man that gives his heart and soul to
his industry can be admired for his work ethic alone. All of these reasons prove why John Cena is one
of the greatest human beings to ever exist. As a young child I loved professional wrestling, namely
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and I carried that intense love into my adult life. As a young
child I saw John Cena obtain stardom despite all the hate he received from more traditional wrestling
fans. John Cena says the 3 character aspects that enable him to succeed are hustle, loyalty, and respect.

To me hustle means to work industrious and never give up. I was born into a family were school was
an afterthought. From the moment I was born I was destined to join the family auto upholstery
business (repairs to the interior of a vehicle). My older brother started working in the family business
in his sophomore year and dropped out school in his junior to work fulltime. When my sophomore
year came around I also had to fulfill my obligations to the family business. It was arduous having to
work 20 30 hours and have a loaded high school schedule (7 classes, 4 AP). It would have been easy
to give up school and focus on work. It was during these difficult moments that I thought back to the
perseverance of John Cena. When I reached my junior year I was working practically full time and
had a college course load in high school. If it wasn t for the notion of hustle I would ve given up.
Believing in myself and working diligently in all areas of my life enabled me to have success. I
graduated with a 4.6 GPA and a wealth of trade knowledge. I am currently in college and still working
long and hard hours. Every time my spirit gets low I recollect the idea of hustle and power through
those tough

Comparison Of Halo And Call Of War
Let s analyze this. Halo and its single player campaign held a vast universe and followed the Spartan
warriors into battle to save the Earth from the alien invasion of 2 different races while Call of Duty
has switched from World War 2 and the Modern era. I must say, the World War 2 story lines were
quite boring, being the same in almost every way, but the Modern Warfare story line caught my
attention. With the evil villain Makarov and the twists and turns the story made in Modern Warfare 2, I
was on the edge of my seat. But, Halo was in every way better in the single player front. Following
genetically enhanced Spartan warriors into battle fighting off hordes of aliens I was amazed with how
deep the story got and how Bungie used every asset they could to enhance the story further in a not so
crazy way.
Ah co op. The lovely days of playing a game with a friend right beside you on a Saturday will never
be forgotten. When co op was finally introduced into the CoD series in World at War, I was very
impressed. The co op campaign ability never really took for me, but what really got me and the rest of
the world was Zombies. Nazi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This finally paragraph will analyze the uniqueness of each game. Starting with Halo, the Forge mode
brought to us by Halo 3 revolutionized multiplayer maps and gametypes far beyond what we could ve
imagined. Also, the theater mode brought by Halo 3 helped the creative minds of the community. Now
Call of Duty...well Call of Duty didn t really bring that much uniqueness but it did help evolve the
modern fast paced shooter into what it is now. In addition, the 60 frames per second on that game
makes it a Call of Duty title while Halo and basically all other games lack that aspect. As I ve said too
many people, Halo is a crappy game at the start that eventually evolves into a giant while CoD is
awesome until exploits in the game are

  • 2. Taking a Look at Ski Jumping The 2014 Olympics held a wide range of competitions for athletes. One of the events, ski jumping, was part of the Olympics since the first games in 1924. Ski jumping was born in 1860 when Norwegian Sondre Norheim, built the first measured jump and flew 30 metres. That record held for more than three decades. Ski jumping is a sport where skiers go down a ramp, jump, attempt to fly as far as possible, and land safely. Judges give points to skiers for proper technique and style, but those points do not add much to the total as the distance contributes to the majority of the scoring. Over the last 100 years, ski jumping has changed enormously due to the new technology made available. The modern sport involves a extreme amount of practice, patience and confidence. The sport is very popular, but also very dangerous. Factors like wind can severely effect a skiers score. The top of the hill is the start. There is a bar at the top that the jumper sits on while they are waiting and getting ready. Once ready, the ski jumper will lean forward and will naturally start accelerating down the pre made path on the platform. The in run usually has an angle of 38o to 36o, which then turns into the jump at the end of the run. The end of the run usually has an angle between 7o and 12o downhill. The ground after the jump is precisely made so the jumper is never over 6 meters over the ground. This measure is in place so if the jumper loses balance, they will not fall very far before hitting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Are those moral concerns based on utilitarianism, rights, or justice considerations? Before we discuss the first question let s get a working description of what subprime leaning is. A subprime lender is financial entity that has an inclination to lend to consumers that are not qualified for traditional loans due to their poor credit status and history of repayment difficulties. Lending to subprime candidates helped lead to secondary mortgage market issue sin 2008 ( Subprime lender, 2011). Basic liberties such as freedom of speech and rights such as equal opportunity are fundamental concepts that express consideration of freedom, autonomy and basic equality. Rights may be derived from moral principles or may be established through political choice. Rights are often categorized as positive or negative (Baron, 2010). In this case I would say that some basic rights of the consumers may have been violated by CitiFinancial because they were not completely up front about the small print that told the true story about the consolidation loans. Other moral philosophies emphasize justice, which requires comparisons of situations of individuals. Justice theories are concerned with how different individuals stand relative to each other on dimensions including, but not limited to, rights, liberties and consequences. The three principal categories of justice theories are distributive, compensatory and retributive. Distributive justice is concerned with providing incentives to contribute to well being in society and with providing a fair and just distribution of the rewards of those contributions. Compensatory justice is concerned with determining how individuals should be compensated for the harm done by others. Retributive justice is concerned with punishment of actions that are contrary to a moral rule or societal well being. Retributive justice may be used to justify deterring harmful actions (Baron, 2010). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Comparison of the Attitudes Shown in The Man He Killed By Tomas Hardy and in My Last Duchess by Robert Browning The attitudes shown in the two poems The Man he Killed by Tomas Hardy and My Last Duchess Robert by Browning are very different; where as Hardy creates a modest, baffled character who feels very guilty, Browning s Duke is a vain, proud man who has killed his wife in a premeditated manner. Each of these catastrophes results in select politicians, and even President Barrack Obama, demanding Gun control across the United States of America. Some anti gun activists desire stricter gun laws, while other anti gun activists have acquired aspirations for a ban on all guns across the nation. They claim that the Second Amendment is outdated, and that we will be safer in the complete absence of firearms. This has been, and continues to be, a popular topic of discussion especially with the Presidential Race coming upon us. This highly debated subject can be summarized into one question; does gun control work? The first manner of business in discovering the answer to this question would consist of analyzing the eligible statistics. Our nation s capital, Washington D.C., enacted some of the strictest gun control laws in the United States. This was known as the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975. This act prohibited residents from owning handguns, automatic firearms, and high capacity firearms. The Supreme Court, in 2008, ruled the act a violation of the Second Amendment resulting in the regulations being dropped. The fabrics in past decades were more natural and handmade. More recently fabrics have changed to a manmade or synthetic fabric. These fabrics pollute the environment and make it harder for people to live. Many people buy cheap clothes from chain clothing stores, like forever 21, H M, and Zara. Although these clothes are cheap, these clothes have a big backstory before they get to the stores. They have lots of reasons why these clothes are so cheap. Its radical make, boldness and consistency exceeds all expectations and probably everything that s come before. This is the perfect example of a director s vision uncompromisingly realized. Selma is saved from the crushing sadness of her existence by music. Music she hears on the factory floor, the passing train, echoed footfalls, the air shaft in the wall. Every time she hears or feels a beat she imagines herself breaking into a spontaneous song and dance routine like she had seen so many times in her childhood. Any rhythmic sound source is likely to elevate her to the world of musicals. Sounds of her surroundings are the bass line to an extravagant musical fantasy world, this not only allows her to break away from the horrors of the situations she finds herself in, but also allows Von Trier to briefly break away from the confines of his Dogma. As the movie progresses we get to witness her life crumbling and falling apart around her. There are many aspects about Dancer in the Dark that make it stand out so distinctly. Relating to the songs, the first phrase that came to my mind after seeing the film was: a musical for people who dislike musicals. However, pizza was not well known because the dish was recently developed and did not had time to gain popularity with the locals in Naples yet. Only until the 17th century did pizza achieved a local popularity among visitors to Naples who would went into the poorer sections to taste the dish made by men called pizzaioli. Pizza started to gain more popularity, but was not at the level where it was countrywide because no major figures had took notice of the new dish to promote it. Pizza managed to be acknowledge by the people of Naples and pizza was sold in the streets in Naples at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The popularity got to the point where stalls were set up where the customers could custom order their pizza to suit what they wanted. The stalls soon developed into the pizzeria where people can come together to eat, drink, talk, and soon become a common sight in Naples. America Needs Media Censorship Essay America Needs Media Censorship Introduction In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world has become desensitized to the acts shown on television, movies, video games or printed in newspapers and magazines. Censorship must be employed if morals and decency are to be preserved. Censorship is a controversial word that has been with us since who knows when. Ancient dictators would burn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence that shows censorship may be positive is explained when we examine what drives delinquent activity. ?To see this, we must take a look at what is inside the mind of a criminal. Eighty one percent of criminals rate pornography as their highest sexual interest. This means that a clear majority of criminals like pornography and find it highly interesting. Most other people probably rank other human beings as their highest sexual interest.? Further evidence of the relation between pornography and crime is seen when an adult bookstore is closed; the crime rate in the surrounding areas falls significantly. With this we see that censorship is a helpful idea for America. People don?t realize that violence on television or video games does have effect on them. Take, for example, the video game ?James Bond,? one of the highest selling games ever. This games put you in the eyes of an assailant and makes killing look like fun, or that its no big deal. Another example is sex on T.V. A boy that has been brought up with never watching sexual explicate material or being surrounded by people that talk about sexual activities, would be less likely to be as interested in the practice of sex, as a kid that watches porno all the time, making him less likely to commit a sexual crime. ?A lot of people in the world are against censorship just for the mere reason they say it?s unconstitutional;? they believe it is taking away ... Resistance in a Wire Coursework Resistance in a Wire Coursework In this investigation we are trying to look for resistance in a piece of wire, and how the length of a wire can increase or decrease the resistance. The things that affect the resistance in a wire are: the length of the wire a certain amount of wire cross sectional area of the wire (thickness) temperature material What things can affect the resistance in a wire? The temperature can affect the resistance in a wire, because the more thermal energy a component has the more the atoms within it will vibrate and get in the path of the free electrons, so the higher the temperature, more resistance is being produced. Once you have figured out the thickness of the wire (length x width), you will be able to calculate the ohms law. Prediction My prediction for this experiment is, once the length of the wire increases, so will the resistance. What my results show me My results show me that once the readings on the ammeter and the voltage increase, so will the resistance, because of this we decided to increase the length of wire used by 10cm each time a reading was recorded. Method 1. Set up the series circuit. 2. Connect the crocodile clip to 30cm along the wire. 3. Switch on the power supply. 4. Record readings from the ammeter and voltmeter. 5. Switch off the power supply. 6. Repeat the stages of 2 6 three times at length 30cm intervals up to 1 metre. What I did and why I kept my experiment a fair test in the following ways: I did not change any parts of the circuit (wires, ammeter, voltmeter or battery pack) in between the measurements this would have prevented small discrepancies between circuit components from affecting the results. When taking the measurements from the voltmeter and ammeter, I waited for the reading to settle completely. If it didn t settle, then I would have made an estimate of the middle value being shown. Waiting for the reading to settle prevented accidentally taking a reading while the value is fluctuating randomly when the power is first turned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The And The Bible Introduction For centuries predestination has been a meticulously discussed subject which causes many divides in opinion due to some verses in the Bible being potentially ambiguous or contradictory and it is therefore necessary to look at this ancient text as a whole in order to get an accurate understanding. Predestination is a significant topic as it brings into question the nature of the traditional Judeo Christian God who has long been seen as omniscient (possessing universal and complete knowledge), omnibenevolent (infinitely good and all loving), omnipotent (all powerful) and immanent (permanently interacting with the universe). For some, the idea of having a supreme god and yet a sin filled world is either impossible or simply means that this god is the father of all evils . Could it be that God is the alpha and the omega (the beginning and the end) but not the intermediate because he lacks the power, knowledge and love to regulate this world which has been spiralling out of control since the Fall of Man in Genesis 3? Another reason as to why it is significant is that it will reveal to us whether we are accountable for our actions or whether God s sovereignty takes precedence over our culpability. The examination can be fragmented into two opposing perspectives, Calvinism and Arminianism, which both try to explain the predicament of predestination in regards to seven key areas: sovereignty, man s depravity, election, Christ s atonement, grace, man s will and ... • 26. Abortion, An Act Of Killing Abortion has been a topic of ethics for as long as time can remember. Abortion is a difficult and controversial moral issue that most have dealt with or heard about. Most would argue that no one has the right to demand large sacrifices from another simply to sustain their own lives, while others see abortion as an act of killing, which is clearly wrong. Both sides have important moral insights, even if ultimately these insights are outweighed by the insights of the other side. Each and every person has their own viewpoint that is biased simply because of their religion or how they were raised. Opinions are passed on generation to generation and each generation with a more developed educated view attempts to change these views. The goal of this ethical argument is not to convince to accept one position or the other, but to help to understand both sides. Without knowledge of both sides, the argument continues. Beware of the labels Pro life and Pro choice. They imply that the other side is against life or against choice. They ignore the nuances in a person s position. There are two principal moral considerations. People consider the moral status of the fetus and on the other hand the rights of the pregnant woman. There are distinctions to whether it is immorally wrong or if it should be illegal. These are distinct issues. Not everything that is immoral is necessarily illegal. Findings have indicated that students desire for elements of personal agency have not changed (Castillo Merino, Serradell Lopez, 2014; Kuo, Walker, Schroder, Belland, 2014). • 38. The Sound and the Fury Essay The Sound and the Fury Title: The title of this novel is The Sound and the Fury. This title is derived from one of Shakespeare s most intriguing plays, Macbeth. Within Macbeth, Shakespeare describes life as a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. And if life is a tale told by an idiot, there is justification as to of why Faulkner begins the book through the eyes of Benjy, a thirty three year old retard. Author: The author of The Sound and the Fury is William Faulkner. He grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. After dropping out of high school, Faulkner pursued his studies at the University of Mississippi. And he was a member of England s Royal Navy in World War I. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This eventually leads him to commit suicide. He is the only character in the novel who is obsessed with honor and sexuality. And when he can t find any love from his mother, he turns to Caddy. Quentin does not want to forget how he handled Caddy s promiscuity because he believes that if he were to forget the entire experience would be meaningless although he is haunted by it. And in the end, Quentin commits suicide by drowning himself in the river. The next major character of this novel is Jason Compson. And the third section of the book is seen through his eyes and revolves around him. From this section, the reader learns that Jason is a selfish, demented, and emotionless bachelor who would never give in to the idea of marriage. Jason is selfish in that he believes that he is always right and that the world should work the way that fits him best. He is demented in that he enjoys quarreling with people. One good example of this is when he arrives to work late in hopes that he will have the chance to argue with his boss. And he is emotionless in that he doesn t feel for anyone and doesn t believe in love. The next major character found in the book is Dilsey. And although the last section is from the author s point of view, it revolves around Dilsey, the cook for the Compson family. Through the Immigration Acts of 1917, 1921, and 1924, the US government insured that Japanese and Chinese immigrants could not immigrate to the United States by creating an artificial geographic area or Asiatic Barred Zone that denied entry to any immigrants who migrated from this area most likely Chinese or Japanese (Lee 2003, 39). Despite their initial economic adversity, German and Italian immigrants accessed more privileges because of their increasingly perceived whiteness among native Born Americans. As I have mentioned, the ideas of American immigration therefore refer to immigrants who conform to the Crevecoeurian Myth. Reconciling the Paradox of US Immigration Despite the radicalized economic, social, and political dimensions of US immigration, policymakers like President Obama continue to sustain a singular view of US immigration that I have argued is oriented around a white and European immigration experience. By revealing how Chinese, Japanese, Italian and German immigrants have faced economic, social, and political adversities, I have disproved President Obama s claim that the United States has been a beacon to the world to these immigrant groups. President Obama s claim is particularly problematic because it highlights how the paradox of immigration has diminished the severity and scope of United States exclusive immigration policies. As policymakers begin to address the current issues of the American immigration system, I argue that this objective is difficult to achieve. • 41. Summary Of Savitar s Running Fast Savitar is clearly a speedster just like the Flash. However, I do not believe that Savitar uses the speed force exactly like Barry does. Barry s use of the speed force allows him to break the time barrier. Breaking the time barrier allows Barry to time travel. In the second to last episode of the Flash that premiered before this article was written(which was the seventh episode of the third season) Savitar demonstrated that he is fast enough to make it seem like he is appearing and reappearing in different places over and over again. Cisco and the rest of the characters assume that Savitar is, in fact, running fast enough for Barry s suit tracker to show that he is seemingly teleporting. Here is where my theory comes into play. I believe that Savitar is actually using the speed force in a way that is drastically different than the way that Barry uses the speed force. Now, the way that Barry uses the speed force is a topic for a different day, but he clearly does not use it in the same way that Savitar seems to use it. I think that Savitar teleports by breaking the space barrier. When Barry time travels, he opens a portal into the speed force, enters the speed force, and then emerges in a point in time of his choosing. What Savitar seems to be doing is opening a portal to the speed force, entering the portal, and then emerging at a point in space of his choosing. This explains why everything looks like it does in the speed force when Savitar runs. It looks like Savitar is in the speed force because he is in the speed force. This means that Savitar may not actually be much faster than Barry. In fact, if we attribute his victory over Barry in the beginning of the seventh episode to Barry being caught off guard and Barry being distracted by both Dr. Alchemy and his want to protect the people around him, then Savitar might actually not be as fast as ... Architecture And Design Of The Modern Era As individuals, we all have multifarious requirements for the buildings we use and the places we live in, work and socialise in needs to mirror this diversity. In other words, to suit whatever purpose we require from the structure and to make sure it functions as the designer envisaged. Construction methods are constantly changing, and yet we can still appreciate the beauty, charm and graceful lines of architecture dating back hundreds of years. This includes magnificent buildings of the modern period as well as the traditional historical ones, brought to us from across the world by the medium of pictures, either as moving images or stills. Artists of each progressive era found these buildings a source of fascination, as they revealed a breath taking beauty in the urban landscape. It can be argued that architecture and design have proved more significant in the establishment of cultures as civilisations developed. For the vast majority of the population, buildings are what they saw and used in their everyday lives, it was either a place they lived in, worked in or sometimes visited. Generally it was only the rich and privileged and this included religious establishments who saw, and more importantly appreciated what was known as art . The general population was fairly ambiguous to art and the aesthetics of architecture by adopting a more pragmatic view of their surroundings. Anytime that I am feeling stressed or down, Netflix cheers me up. Netflix allows me to sit back and relax. Watching the tv provider, allows me to forget all my problems, and allows me to watch other people have problems. • 46. Aristotle s Characteristic Perspectives Of Happiness Many individuals attempt to characterize and consider diverse meanings of what happiness is, and I believe that Plato and Aristotle offer intriguing perspectives of happiness and what it implies for one to live a good life with great things surrounded by himself. Our two Philosophers concur that happiness is an essential factor in one s life and basically the substance of how to carry on with a decent life. For Aristotle, a thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose, or goal. For example, the purpose of a chair is to sit, and it is by seeing this that one best understands what a chair is. True happiness is when we see an end in itself which is supreme good . However, it is very important to identify the true happiness from the false happiness. This confusion might lead us to a life in a bubble with lot of imaginations. It is very true that Happiness depends on the cultivation of virtue . Having a good job, loving wife, and awesome lifestyle does not mean that someone has true happiness, but morally and spiritually sound, good qualities, kindness, honesty, etc. Like Aristotle says main door(hallmark) for true happiness which is virtue is achieved by how we maintain the mean which is how we balance two excesses. The product of two streams of development, one in the Mediterranean and the other in south central Asia, Muslim architecture is fundamentally centered upon worship. At its heart is the mosque, whose characteristic domes, minarets, and stylized decorative art encouraged contemplation and prayer. After the destruction of the Temple and dispersal of Jews from Israel in 70 C.E., Judaism focused on family ritual and synagogues that housed prayer sanctuaries which faced Jerusalem. By the fifth and sixth centuries, many Arabs respected the non sexualized symbols of Judaism, its ascetic monotheism, and the Jewish devotion to family life and education. The most satisfying part of the reading program was when children came to report on books they read. We used the computers to fill out the information, give prizes, and stamps. We often ask about the books they read to hear the children explain and report on the book and if they enjoyed reading the book. The most challenging part of the reading program is when several children came at once. Since there are only two volunteers helping during each time when several children come in at once it can be difficult to help each child like we would like. Volunteering for the summer reading program was pleasing to me and I gained a fresh perspective of discovering my passion for teaching.
