Theme Of Pride In House Of Mirth
It can be duly noted that, regardless of the time period, the history of American lifestyles follow
similar patterns. One can easily identify major stepping pinnacles through the literature published at
that time. Throughout the novels House of Mirth, A Mercy and the play Death of a Salesman, the
thematic realms of Freedom and Confinement, Pride, Respect and Reputation are often explored and
we can identify that the lives of these very different set of New Yorkers experience great hardships.
First, we will explore the theme of Pride within the novel House of Mirth. Pride is not a
groundbreaking theme but is very much evident in numerous characters. Lily Bart herself is guilty of
pridefulness and one could argue that her pride had caused her ... Show more content on

Gryce s assessment of this group, there are boundaries within it which should not be crossed, limiting
the members of the society in House of Mirth to a sense of restriction. The self imposed rules prevent
people from doing as they please or experiencing the tribulations that life throws at them. Examples of
this is that women marry solely for financial purposes, women should not befriend married men or
even smoke cigarettes. The people are expected to play their role in this high end society and any
deviance from this is condemned. The following quote examines Lily s appearance towards everyone
and how she was expected to act.: To Selden s exasperated observation she was only too completely
alive to them. She was perfect to every one: subservient to Bertha s anxious predominance, good
naturedly watchful of Dorset s moods, brightly companionable to Silverton and Dacey. (Wharton,
2.1.43) The freedom in this society is minimal, even to those who are financially adept. Selden states
that his version of success is freedom. Despite that he continues to participate in the menial activities
of this society. Previously, we noted that Selden is less restricted in this society and his male gender
allows his reputation to stand strong. This is also the case for his sense of freedom. He can feel free
only because he is a male and women are constantly confined because they are female. Similarly,
Bertha Dorset is completely aware of her downfall if her

Health Information Management (HIM) And Health Informatics
The history of Health Information Management (HIM) and Health Informatics (HI) has evolved from
using descriptive anatomical terminology within documents...to an electronic system where medical
personnel can store and retrieve patient health information (Green Bowie, 2016). Distinctively defined
as different entities, by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), both
the HIM and HI bring to the forefront patient data that can be expended by diverse agencies and
departments (American Health Information Management Association, 2016). From its appearance
almost 3,000 years ago several organizations specializing in specific areas of healthcare have had a
great influence on its operations (Green Bowie, 2016). Some of the

Special Education Teacher For Extended School Year
What is it like to be a Special Education Teacher for Extended School Year? I learned during my field
observation that being a special education teacher for Gwinnett County Public School (GCPS) opens
the door to many opportunities, one of which is the availability to work as a teacher for Extended
School Year (ESY). I also learned in order for students to be eligible for ESY services, they must have
an IEP, be in a self contained classroom during the regular school year, and have data to support
significant growth/gains made on their individual goals and objectives. In addition, the student has
displayed regression when returning from a break. There are limited sites for ESY at the elementary
level, as a result ESY is a competitive data based program for both students and teachers. The site I
visited was Chattahoochee Elementary School in Duluth, Ga, there I had the opportunity to shadow a
teacher in the Moderate/ASD program. Chattahoochee ES is an older, red brick building with a newer
addition added to the top of the school. The wing where ESY is held was part of the new addition. It
had tile floors, an exterior office, and six classrooms. Two of the six rooms are used as alert and
calming areas, within these rooms there was adapted equipment, like a squeeze machine, listening
station, and a trampoline. The classroom was divided into sections/areas, using gray partitions and
study carols. Within these sections was a play area, individual task area, and reading area. There

American Involvement In Ww2
Although the U.S. had yet to become officially involved in the war, most Americans supported the
Allies and saw the Germans as antagonists. Americans felt a connection to Great Britain, in particular,
because of cultural similarities. When the Germans sunk the Lusitania, a British cruise ship, in 1915,
128 Americans were among those who lost their lives, causing America to become even angrier
towards the Germans. At the same time, the British intercepted a message from Germany to Mexico
called the Zimmerman Note, asking the government of Mexico to declare war on the U.S. if war broke
out between the U. S. and Germany. The note also promised to help Mexico regain the territory of
Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico if Mexico declared war on the United States. This note was the final
push that caused America to fall into the want of war. Thus, on April 6, 1917, the U.S. Congress
declared war on Germany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is It Wrong To Judge Corduroy
Everyone wishes they could be perfect, but sometimes this is not the case. You learn as you get older
that everyone has flaws. People have all different tastes, opinions, likes, and dislikes. No matter how
people may look, the readers learn in Corduroy that it s wrong to judge people based on their
appearance. According to Allure, A national survey taken of 2,500 people, found that 64 percent of
people said that the first thing they notice about a person is how attractive he or she is (Conde Nast,
2016). People are judged wrongly on a daily basis, especially in a high school setting. When you
judge someone based off of their appearance, or even how they act, you never know what you could
be missing out on. The person that you decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes people do not even know they are judging them. It starts when you ask one of your friends
about a teacher they have had before because you are about to take that individual class. When your
friend tells you how they liked the class, how they liked the teacher, and how they liked the work, you
automatically have a standard set for that class. Your friend could also tell you that the teacher in the
class has been the worst teacher ever. You need to make your own judgment, not go off of what your
friends tell you. Your friends could hate the class and the teacher more than anything, and you could
end up loving the class and the teacher. Rumors are also another way how students judge the teachers.
You go your whole high school career hearing about how bad a particular class or an individual
teacher is. You hear about how hard the class is to pass, and you automatically dread having to take
that class, but still have two years to go until you take the class. Sometimes the nicest teacher in the
world could have a bad day and a student from that class tell everyone how mean she is. Just like with
other students, do not judge them until you have been a part of their class and then you can decide if
the people were right or wrong about

A Study on Operant and Classical Conditioning
Operant and Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning best explains reflective responding that is
largely controlled by stimuli preceding the response, while operant conditioning is the kind of learning
influenced by stimulus events that follow the responses. (Weiten). In operant conditioning,
reinforcement is defined as after the fact. Reinforcement follows a response and increases tendency to
make the response. In classical conditioning, the reinforcement comes before the response is made and
increases tendency to make the response. A middle school teacher intercepted a note that contained
personal information, read it out loud, and the student the note was intended for leaves the class and
school, feels sick at going to school the next day, and becomes ill at the thought of the teacher. This is
a classical conditioning case. (Daniels, 2009). If the student s behavior had happened before the
teacher intercepted the note and read it out loud, it would have been a case of operant conditioning. In
classical conditioning, the student s reaction to the teacher, classroom, and the school is a conditioned
response and creates a physiological reaction. In operant conditioning, the teacher s reaction to the
student s behavior, if reversed, would have been conditioned and creates a physiological reaction.
Operant responding is controlled by consequences as response outcomes (R O) are learned. In operant
conditioning the student s response can be considered a consequence

Accounting Policies While Preparing Their Financial...
Companies use accounting policies while preparing their financial statements. All financial statements
are set to follow an international standard guideline. These policies are available to users of financial
statements while making financial decisions in order to make sure that the proper decisions are being
made. According to The Financial reporting and analysis article by Gibson, the full disclosure
principle states that a company s financial statements should include all the information needed in
order for the reader to fully understand statements (Gibson, 2012). Disclosures not only provide
extensive information to users but also monitor the preparation of financial statements to guarantee
that it is free from any misleading policies that might have been used by management while preparing
financial statements. Some of the requirements by the disclosure when preparing financial statements
are reporting all transactions and trades that occurred during the period that the financial statements
are covering are actually reflected on the financial statements. This includes any errors that might have
caused any false calculations should also be reported on the financial statements. In addition to that,
footnotes should be provided along with the financial statements to support and better explain
financial reporting (Prentzas, 2012). The two common disclosures required and applied on financial
reporting are fixed assets and notes payable. Fixed assets disclosure categorizes

Current research attempts to find neurobiological or genetic evidence as possible sources for ASD.
Within the research and medical communities, there are disagreements as to which characteristics
define an individual as having a condition within ASD. For example, the changes within the 4th and
5th editions of the American Psychiatric Association DSM, removes Asperger s Syndrome as a
condition, causing much controversy. It is this controversy about Asperger s Syndrome significance
that this review hopes to elucidate.
Background:
Asperger s syndrome is on the higher functioning spectrum of ASD. Individuals with ASP have
similar social awkwardness as in other ASDs; however they are not as incapacitated. There are 3 main
deficits that must be present in an individual for Autism to be diagnosed. As referenced in Woodbury
Smith and Volkmar 2009 article Asperger Syndrome: absence of cognitive, developmental or language
delay in childhood. However, Asperger s, is characterized by severe social impairments, such as
restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests and activities [2]
Meanwhile, Autism, as defined by the 5th edition of the DSM is, a persistent deficit in social
communication and social interaction across multiple contexts [1] there are three main deficits an
individual must show in order to be diagnosed with autism. They are: deficits in social emotional

Symbolism and the Power of Three in Sir Gawain and the...
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a late 14th century Middle English alliterative romance about the
adventure of Sir Gawain, King Arthur s Knight of the Round Table. This great verse is praised not
only for its complex plot and rich language, but also for its sophisticated use of symbolism.
Symbolism is a technique used in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to give a significance to the plot.
The Green Knight, the Green Sash, and Sir Gawain s Shield are three of the most prominent symbols
given to us in this verse. The Green Knight, serves as a symbol himself. He is presented as a mixture
of foreign and familiar, evil and good. In the beginning the Green Knight is carrying peace(holly
branch) in one hand and war(battle axe) in the other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In English folklore green was used to show rebirth, and a youth s passing (Lewis 50 51). In the story
the sash also represents cowardice, he gave into the lady and lied about the present (Goldhurst 61 65).
The fear of death ended up causing his downfall. In the end the sash was worn by all at the Round
Table, to show them the lesson learned by Gawain both in his rebirth in learning his lesson and in
remembrance of his sacrifice for King Arthur. The Power of Three is also a strong occurrence in this
writing, and in many Old English works. Sir Gawain has three different events in three stages: the
three hunts, the three seductions, and the three axe swings; all three relate to each other. The hunt by
Sir Gawain s host and the Seduction of Gawain by the lady are closely related to each other, but with a
twist, in the seduction scenes it is the hunter being hunted by the prey. During the first hunt, the Lords
prey is a deer. The deer is skittish and an easy catch, in the seduction scene Sir Gawain is able to
easily escape the trap from the lady. The Lord let the buck pass by as it was counted a crime to molest
the male deer (Poet 1154 6). As it was a crime to molest a male deer, it was also a crime for the lady to
molest the male deer. The Lady intimidated Sir Gawain, and this is where the first swing of the Green
Knights axe relates. The Green Knight stops the first swing just as Sir Gawain stopped the first
seduction. His fear of death causes him to

Ignatius J. Reilley In John Kennedy Toole s Confederacy Of Du
Ignatius J. Reilly is the main character in the humorous book Confederacy of Dunces, by John
Kennedy Toole, which is set in the city of New Orleans in the early 1960s. Ignatius is an educated
man of thirty who lives in Uptown New Orleans with his mother Mrs. Irene Reilly. Throughout the
book Ignatius searches for a job and encounters many difficulties while roaming the city. His
insatiable appetite, overpowering laziness, and outlandish personality adds a comical view of him
which builds throughout the novel. Ignatius J. Reilley can best be described in three words which
dominate his character throughout the entirety of the novel: disrespectful, idealistic, and arrogant.

sense. When told to find a job, Ignatius believes he can hold almost any position but later discovers
that is untrue and states Apparently I lack some particular perversion which today s employer is

Ignatius was on his normal hot dog selling route, the Ladies Art Guild was having a hanging of their
paintings, and Ignatius decided to take a look. Upon seeing a picture of a camellia painted by one of
the women, Ignatius exclaimed You ladies need a critic with some taste and decency (224). Ignatius
thinks very highly of himself as being a scholar and man of the arts, yet he continues to act like a child
and a fool throughout the story.
Ignatius J. Reilly is a character readers either love or hate because of his personality. He is a very odd
character who brings humor to readers across the world who share in his humorous spirit. For reasons
such as his personality, humor, and creativity, Ignatius J. Reilly is one of the most studied characters at
Jesuit High School and causes people to continue to study his character even to this

The Many Deities of Death Have you ever wondered how other religions viewed death? Have you
wondered why others celebrate it? Have you wondered which religions had which gods or goddesses
assigned to certain roles in the death hierarchy? Well, as you read this essay, you will learn each of
these things and more. While reading, remember that other religions are quite different from your own
and they may differ into the extremes.

One deity, often pictured darker or more menacing, is assigned the job of presiding over death. Some
polytheistic religions have a departmental deity of death. They make death seem as if it is an amazing
journey, but they do not glorify the points of death or dying. In monotheistic religion, one god governs
life and death. When a monotheistic is in practice, this seems to manifest in different rituals and
traditions. These rituals and traditions vary depending on geographical location, local politics, main
traditions, and the influences of other religions.
One of the many polytheistic religions is that of Babylonian Mythology. They have Freshkigal, the
first lady of the underworld. They also include Nergal as the second lord of the underworld. Another
polytheistic religion is Aztec Mythology. Their lord of the underworld is called Mictlantecuhtli, while
their queen of the underworld is called Mictecacihuatl. In Egyptian Mythology, they not only have
their lord of the dead, Osiris, they also have Anubis, he is the guardian of the dead, mummification,

Margaret Cavendish s Use Of Imagery
To hunt or be hunted
Imagery of the hunt traces back to Francesco Petrarch s sonnets, and perhaps further. This imagery has
been predominantly used by male writers, and consequently the trope is framed through the male
voice. It generally features a male lover in the position of the huntsman, and his female object of
desire in the position of the hunted, often represented as a deer or a bird. As a result, the metaphor of
the hunt is often romanticized and huntsmans are disarmed and portrayed as lovers. Margaret
Cavendish responds to this trope with her poem The Hunting of the Hare, in which she provides a
much different understanding of the interaction by writing from the point of view of the hunted.
Cavendish flips the narrative to expose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with sympathy: Cavendish sets up the hunted, rather than the huntsmen, as the object of
sympathy. In order to do so, she first personifies the hare. She gives him a name: Wat, which already
humanizes the creature and directs the reader s sympathy towards the hare rather than the huntsmen,
who have yet to be introduced. The hare is also depicted using his forefeet [to rub] his face from dust,
and sweat (40), an action similar to a person using their hands to wipe their face. Furthermore,
Cavendish describes the hare s weeping eyes (81), and since most animals cannot weep it further
personifies the hare by ascribing to him a human expression of deep emotion. In personifying the hare,
Cavendish diminishes the distance between the creature and her readers, making it easier to relate to
and sympathize with the hare. Secondly, Cavendish sets Wat up to be an intelligent and rational
creature. She opens the poem by presenting him lying in a calculated and well thought out position to
stay warm and fend off the wind. She further claims that he is wise (7), and references His thoughts
(24). Lastly, Wat s intelligence is exemplified by his clever use of a strategy: he decides to try Winding
about, for to deceive [the dog s] scent (36). By establishing that the hare is a thinking being,
Cavendish elevates him to somewhere between man and the beast. In doing so, she allows her readers
to relate to him better, and it helps demonize the hunters who do not treat him as a thinking

The Self Image Of Young Adults
For many, many decades Americans have suffered from self image because of inner conflicts causing
very low self esteem issues. Many of these conflicting identity issues play into these severe inflictions
with one s self. Teens and young adults have a troubled existence of feeling incompetent, unloved,
unworthy and leaving them unable to fit into the crowd because of their body image leaving an
imprint of a certain way to look. As Early as age five, children have been brainwashed with secular
television shows and cartoons with figures of slimming women with twenty four inch waste lines and
voluptuous, flawless petite bodies. But it is not only young girls being attacked of self image but boys
to revise things lacking of self image, growing facial hair and muscles rippling through their shirt with
a six pack to prove their masculinity. Media and parents have set a standard to how you should look,
and what is presentable and what is not; leaving them with an impaired self worth. The lifestyle of an
all American individual self image and low confidence withers through media, disengaged parental the
lack of awareness from educational resources. Media and television show, orbit around America and

Summary Of Human Trafficking In Little Princess
In Little Princess, Conor Grennan goes on a journey to Nepal for a year. His mission was at first just
to have something on his resume and to help him figure out his life. He was going to Nepal to
volunteer at an orphanage. Nepal was in a critical time, a brutal Civil War. On entering the orphanage
his perceptive of volunteering was nothing too deep. He begins to bond with the orphans and
understand their stories. Many of the children had been taken away from their families and tricked into
thinking they were going to a better place. When he departs from Nepal, he realizes how much he
misses the kids and wants to go back. In Part II, he returns to the orphanage but leaves for two months
to go volunteer around the globe. Through out the book, he searches for the orphan s families, opens
his own children s home and changes his life.
Human trafficking is a modern day multibillion slavery business, involving victims who are
kidnapped, smuggled and/or recruited then forced into slavery, labor and/or sexual exploitation. The
primary cause of human trafficking is poverty. It is a global epidemic sweeping the nations and has
been for years. It is more prevalent in third world countries, yet it is occurring all over the world.
Traffickers make an income and a way of living from offering humans for slavery, labor, and sexual
exploitation. According to Equality Now, At least 20.9 million adults and children are bought and sold

The Man I Killed, By Tim O’Brien
Usually when someone is murdered, people expect the murderer to feel culpable. This though, is not
the case in war. When in war, a soldier is taught that the enemy deserves to die, for no other reason
than that they are the nation s enemy. When Tim O Brien kills a man during the Vietnam War, he is
shocked that the man is not the buff, wicked, and terrifying enemy he was expecting. This realization
overwhelms him in guilt. O Brien s guilt has him so fixated on the life of his victim that his own
presence in the story as protagonist and narrator fades to the black. Since he doesn t use the first

imagining an entire life for his victim, from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the same fantasy, he also tortures himself, by imagining exactly why the man s death might
be such a horrible tragedy. O Brien feeds his guilt by imagining that the man he killed was in the
prime of his life. By imagining that the man he killed wrote romantic poems in his journal and had
fallen in love with a classmate whom he married before he enlisted as a common rifleman, O Brien
can more easily identify with his victim and understand the terrible nature of the killing. When
describing the life of the man he killed O Brien starts every sentence with the word He as if to make it
clear that even though the man and O Brien were similar, it was still the man s life that was ended not
O Brien s. Also by continuously using He O Brien tries to separate himself from the man to make him
the enemy but in the end he fails. O Brien can t justify what he did because the realization that the
man was just a regular man shatters his idea of the Vietnamese deserving the violence. The futile
comments and half hearted attempts of comfort made by the other soldiers along with the conspicuous
silence demonstrate that nothing can erase the harsh reality of what has occurred. Azar s pitiless offers

Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The life and ministry of Jesus is usually defined as the moment where God intervened in human
history for a special purpose. This intervention occurred so humanity s relationship could be restored
to the way it was originally intended to be. Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first

of Jesus power. Presenting the comparison between His divine nature and the Holy Spirit should not
be a focused issue rather it should promote insight to the interworking of Jesus ministry.
The power of the Spirit in Jesus should be an example of how believers should interact with the Spirit.
As Jesus told His disciples of the helper He would send to them (Jn 15:26), believers today have the
privilege to be empowered by the Holy Spirit as well. The disciples witnessed the miracles which
Jesus performed and from this example they were able to have powerful ministries as well. Jesus
ministry consisted of redeeming humanity from sin, performing miracles full of the Spirit and making
available the power of the Spirit. His mission did not stop at establishing the Kingdom on earth, the
great commission provides guidance to believers with what He wants for the Kingdom. The work of
the Holy Spirit in Jesus ministry did not start at the baptism at the Jordan rather it started much earlier
than His three years with the disciples.

Aristotle s Philosophy On The View Of Friendship
Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher. Aristotle s philosophy was his logical concept. Aristotle s
objective was to come up with a universal process of reasoning that would allow man to learn every
imaginable thing about reality. He wrote on a vast amount of subjects during his lifetime, such as
biology, chemistry, physics, ethics and logic. Aristotle wrote a book called, Nicomachean Ethics. This
book describes the view of friendship. He also describes three different type of friendship, which in
reality is exactly how friendship is in today society. The question while reading this information is
what is friendship in Aristotle point of view? Aristotle believes that there are three different kinds of
friendship; that of utility, friendship of pleasure, and virtuous friendship. In his book he describe
exactly what each type of friendship really is. Friendship that is of utility is where both people derive
some benefit from each other. Is like saying that these people are friends from each other by gaining
something else from the other. They are not friends for the good of it; they are friends because there
are benefits coming from them. Aristotle describes a friendship of utility as narrow, easily dissolved or
for the old. He views them as such because this type of friendship is easily broken and based on
something that is brought to the relationship by the other person. Most of the people that have this
type of friendship are the young people. They do not know

Protein Synthesis Essay
Protein Synthesis
Protein synthesis is one of the most fundamental biological processes. To start off, a protein is made in
a ribosome. There are many cellular mechanisms involved with protein synthesis. Before the process
of protein synthesis can be described, a person must know what proteins are made out of. There are
four basic levels of protein organization. The first is primary structure, followed by secondary
structure, then tertiary structure, and the last level is quaternary structure. Once someone understands
the makeup of a protein, they can then begin to learn how elements can combine and go from genes to
protein. There are two main processes that occur during protein synthesis, or peptide formation. One is
transcription and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new formations are held together by hydrogen bonds. The third level is the tertiary structure.
The tertiary structure of a protein is a contorted secondary structure being twisted and folded all out of
shape to form a 3 d complex. The type of bonding that holds these formations together are weak
interactions such as hydrophilic, hydrophobic, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. These bonds are
individually weak, but collectively strong. The forth level, which completes a protein, is quaternary
structure, which occurs when two or more tertiary structures are joined together by polypeptide bonds.
The formation of a protein begins in the genes, which contain the basic building information for all
parts of living organisms. There are four DNA nucleotides that make up genes: A, T, C, and G. A
codon is any arrangement of three of these nucleotides. Each triplet of nucleotides codes for one
amino acid. First transcription will begin in the nucleus where mRNA will transcribe the DNA
template. During both transcription and translation, there are three steps. The first step in transcription
is initiation where RNA polymerase separates a DNA strand and binds RNA nucleotides to the DNA.
RNA nucleotides are the same as DNA ones except that U replaces the T. The second is just the
elongation of the mRNA. The third step of transcription is termination. This occurs when RNA
polymerase reads a codon region and the mRNA separates from the

The Negative Impacts Of Financialization
History shows that financialization has not only touched the United States, but has been a part of the
cycle of economies throughout time. It affected Spain in the 1300s as well as England in the 1800s
and 1900s. The definitions of financialization are many. One definition says that with regard to the
operation of the economy, it has to do with the increasing importance of financial markets, motives,
institutions, and elites (Assa 2012). Adam Smith defined it as the growing scale and profitability of the
finance sector at the expense of the rest of the economy and the shrinking regulation of its rules and
returns (Collins 2015). It has also been said that in addition to its influence over the economy, its reach
extends to other societal institutions such as government (Gautam 2014). The literature on
financialization written in the last few decades highlights negative impacts on both the real and
financial sides of the economy (Assa 2012).
According to Palley (2007), financialization causes economies to slow their growth and become
fragile with a very real potential outcome being recession. When the financial sector has more power,
it takes precedence over the real sector. It takes money from the real sector and gives it to the financial
sector resulting in huge wage disparities and stagnation in the real sector. The effects on those outside
of the financial sector have been great. Household debt to income ratios have increased, as have
corporate debt to equity ratios

Fallacies Of The Body Of Work Essay
The body of work, Logical Fallacies Handlist: Arguments to Avoid when Writing, explains that
fallacies are statements that may sound logical, but contains information that makes it illogical.
Fallacies, when detected, can depict the writer as an individual that lacks intelligence or the ability to
be honest, which is why it is important to avoid this when composing an argument. Having the
capacity to identify them in others arguments is equally as important, as it allows the reader to identify
when the arguer attempts to mislead them. Fallacies of relevance do not, logically, relate to the
argument, but does so emotionally or psychologically. For instance, Argumentum ad Baculum, also
known as the appeal to force, uses force, or threats of force by the writer, to persuade the reader to
side with them. Also, genetic fallacies are similar to argumentum ad hominem and base its claim on
the idea that the premise is correct due to its origin. Although analogous to genetic fallacies,
argumentum ad hominem diverts the discussion of an argument by criticizing or praising the
individual that is making the case. Argumentum ad hominem is fallacious in that the debater s
character does not validate or negate an argument. Used by numerous propagandist and advertisers,
argumentum ad populum uses emotionally charged language to provoke strong emotions and persuade
the audience to accept the conclusion. Furthermore, argumentum ad populum uses three different
approaches. Bandwagon, which

Essay about A Proposed ICAAlgorithm
Proposed ICA algorithm This algorithm performs adaptive optimization of kurtosis based contrast
function in floating point arithmetic. The main aim of this algorithm development is to reduce the
number of manipulations and to improve the performance of ICA algorithm in terms of convergence
speed, area, frequency and power. The convergence speed of the algorithm is improved by focusing
the search in particular directions rather than searching for the solution in a random manner. The
random number generator unit present in FastICA has been replaced by an adaptive optimization unit

Mark Twain s The Chimney Sweeper
The Chimney Sweeper reflects the hope that God can give to people even when they are miserable and
hopeless. The kid in the poem is sold at a very young age and he is devastated with the things he is
forced to do, but his perspective changes once he sees his future.
At the beginning of the poem, the narrator feels anger and sorrow since he is forced to clean chimneys
instead of being able to run and play like a normal kid would usually do, but as the poem continues to
develop, there s a shift present. This shift happens when the kid has a dream about a thousand of
chimney sweepers like him being happy and having fun in the clouds. During the dream there s
symbolism of death portrayed by the coffins. The angel goes to the coffins with a magical key and sets
them free. This is also a symbol of heaven because the kids are floating in the clouds in a fantasy
world. The shift in this story is very powerful because it gives the kid a purpose for living his
miserable life and changes his attitude and perspective towards it. ... Show more content on

The rhyme scheme in the poem helps the audience understand with more simplicity what the author is
trying to convey. Both rhyme schemes are very easy to identify since they vary between two very
common patterns which are: AABB and ABAB. The author makes it very simple since his biggest
goal is to convey the message that the chimney sweepers suffered back in those days. Another
similarity between the poems, is the use of figurative language. in The Chimney Sweeper, the author
uses a simile in order to describe the physical appearance of Tom. his head that curl d like a lamb s

Wheattone Bridge Essay
Introduction In the 19th century, Samuel Hunter Christie invented the diamond method for circuits,
the initial idea to the Wheatstone bridge. However, bridge circuits, circuits with parallel resistors,
bridged by a branch between them, were used to measure small voltages; but, the Wheatstone bridge is
used to measure an unknown resistance using all the others three known resistance in the circuit.
During the lab, the Wheatstone Bridge concept for a bridge circuit was used to determine the unknown
resistor in the circuit, see in figure 1. The objective was to measure the voltages between points on the
branch between the first two resistors in series on top and bottom ones, in which were connected in
parallel. Thereafter, test the voltage calculated at different temperatures, those being room
temperature, ice water and hot water; by using a thermistor in the circuit, that helps calibrate the
Wheatstone bridge as a thermometer.
Methods
Firstly, the protoboard was powered with 1 volts coming from the power supply. The circuit was
assembled by connecting two resistors in series on top and one resistor and the thermistor in series on
the bottom connected to the top branch in parallel. The left end of the circuit was powered by 1 v from
the power supply and the rightmost end was grounded. The thermistor was placed on the bottom
branch of the circuit by two wires that connected to the protoboard and to the thermistor in which
were long enough to allow the thermistor to be

The Use Of Electroencephalographic ( Eeg ) Signals For...
Introduction
This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for
biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based
identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification
systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition,
however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity. A
range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to
recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals: they
may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1].
One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data capture
using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with recordings
from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to justify the
statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data from the low
cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the recognition
performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a recording of the electrical activities of the brain along the scalp,
which is generally considered

The Bloody Chamber is a collection of short stories written in 1979 by Angela Carter during a time
known as second wave feminism. Carter s work was highly influenced by the genre of fairy tales,
Carter has been quoted saying her stories in The Bloody Chamber are stories about fairytales in order
to show what is wrong with them. Carte writes within and against fairy tales by this it is meant that
she both conforms to some of the conventions of the genre and deliberately deviates from them

Extraterrestrial Life Exist Essay
Imagine that out of the infinite stars and planets in the vast universe, only one solitary planet can
sustain life. Heavily disputed arguments have arisen about whether humans are the sole intelligent
beings in the universe. Scientists continuously search for the answer, but the search has not as yet
yielded positive results. Billions of dollars have been spent in research, causing controversy about
whether scientists should invest in the hunt for extraterrestrial beings. Due to inadequate technology,
humans cannot currently identify whether extraterrestrial life exists, leading to arguments that
scientists should refrain from searching for them. Findings on Earth and other planets suggest

Since odd creatures are found in environments similar to Europa s on Earth, then life can possibly
survive on the moon. Experts cannot rule out life under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities
to the Earth s environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar
environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when
discovering life. Open University s Preston says, Most of the environments we used to think were
sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we ve found somewhere on Earth that life can t
survive in, we go and find a part of life that can (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so
scientists do not have to look for planets with similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted
to a different environment than Earth s. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on Earth
which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as
well. Once again, with this new knowledge, scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials.
Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some evidence proves
otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for
extraterrestrials discourages scientists to continue with the investigation. It is possible that if humans
ever find aliens, it could be

The method of using factual guilt would allow more convicts to be sentenced with innocent citizens
also being punished as where the current method of legal guilt will protect innocent people from being
sentenced but allowing more suspects getting away with the law. With Sinclair s case, the due process
of legal guilt protects one s right till proven guilty was applied and executed as intended without
having conflicts with the law, evidence was provided and a violation in the law was found thus
confirming his sentence. The methodology has proven to work in this case and in several other cases
as well. If factual guilt was used, the chances of Sinclair getting the same sentence would be
considerably high. The reason why legal guilt would be better is to prevent people from being
punished unnessarily. Also the Code mentions how one s rights should not be abandoned under any
circumstances and is innocent till proven guilty. Arguments can be made that factual guilt can be more
beneficial, preventing murders like O.J. Simpson escaping from the law, making communities more
safe. The drawback of this is the violation of section 11 in the Charter of rights and freedom
preventing people feeling confident in their law enforcement and increasing their chances of being

Grammar, History, Development And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction Do you think grammar is important? Do you know the function of grammar? Can you
imagine living a life without grammar? Grammar is a set of rules for language. In this chapter, we will

learners learn grammar. 3.1 Definition of Grammar Grammar is certainly a common word, it may be a
boring subject to you or an explorative subject that you want to probe for. No matter what, grammar
has been a long established academic term and it is an imperative part of language. First, get to know

of different sentence types); 2) Morphology(how letters/sounds combine to make meaningful units);
3) Phonology(study of sounds/significant sounds (phonemes)); 4) Semantics(the study of meaning)
and Pragmatics(how to understand other speakers intended meaning) 3.1.1 Descriptive grammar and
Prescriptive grammar One basic distinction of grammar is between Descriptive grammar and
Prescriptive grammar. Descriptive grammar refers to the structure of a language as it is actually used
by speakers and writers, it is from living language and up to date. The language in descriptive
grammar is constantly changing, fluid and organic, it also describes reality from authentic data.
Prescriptive grammar refers to the structure of a language as certain people (usually learned scholars)
think it should be used, it emphasis on correctness. It is the unchanging set of rules, which is seen as
the idealised perfection . 3.1.2 Different Types of Grammar There are different varieties of grammar,
which is the different ways of describing and analyzing the structures and functions of language. Apart

got disqualified for all of his races. My cousin was crying. He went to my parents sorrowfully to tell
him. Annabelle went up to congratulate me. I said thanks. My cousin was still crying. I went to the
snackbar and got two of those very overpriced hotdogs 6 dollars each! I found out that my cousins
coach was working.
Me: Did you know why my brother got DQ?
Coach: Yes, he waited too long on the flip turn.
Me: Oh, is there any way we can fix it.
Coach: Yes if we talk to the official.

Getting A Dental Implant? 2 Things To Know About The Recovery Process
Have you decided to get a dental implant to permanently fix a missing tooth? If you, you may be
looking forward to having a replacement tooth that looks and feels like a real tooth. Unfortunately, the
implant process doesn t stop when you leave the dentist s office, since there are some key things to
know about recovering from the surgery.
The Length of Recovery
There are many factors that play into how long it will take to recover from dental implant surgery.
This includes how many implants you received and the strength of the jawbone the implant was
placed in. In fact, it can take several months for the implant to fully recover and feel completely
natural. However, most of the recovery process will take place over the first few days after the
procedure. What you do can end up prolonging or shortening your overall recovery time. ... Show

Practice Good Oral Hygiene
The dental implant may be a fake tooth, but it is more important than ever that you practice good oral
hygiene to keep your gums and jawbone protected. Bacteria runs the risk of slowing down your
recovery process, and has the potential to cause an infection in your gums.
All you need to do is floss and brush regularly to remove harmful bacteria that can become stuck
around the implant surgical site. Your dentist may suggest that you use a mouthwash as well, and even
subscribe one that is prescription strength in some situations.
Avoid Pressure
You should avoid any activities that can put excessive pressure on a dental implant and cause damage
while it is healing. For example, you will need to break any habits you have of chewing on ice cubes.
You should be eatings foods that are moderately soft as well. The risk of putting too much pressure on
a dental implant is that the actual implant can become dislodged while in the healing

Lady Of Shalott
The Lady of Shalott This is a marvelous piece, which has been renewed and revised a countless
amount of times. The earliest story, which relates to this poem, is Shrek. The reason why it is related is
because, in The Lady of Shalott the lady is trapped in the tower and can t get out (or the curse that is
put on her will be unleashed). In Shrek, Fiona (which is the lady in the movie) must stay in the tower
until her true love comes to her rescue (orders from her dad). Fiona is guarded by a dragon and she s
locked up in a tall tower which is surrounded by lava, so someone has to build up enough courage to
deal with all that hoopla. She is also cursed though, when dawn hits and until the sun comes up, she
turns into an ogre. So these stories, which are very different at parts, are so similar in others. The
author of The Lady of Shalott is Mr. Tennyson (Alfred, Tennyson). He also wrote In Memoriam,
A.H.H. , Tears, Idle Tears , and a passage we have already been through Ulysses . This is an extremely
important author of his time, even our time. He wanted to show what was wrong with not just
ourselves, but society. He also wanted to comfort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wants Lancelot, the world, the town, etc. She is just sick of looking from a mirror so, when she looks

couldn t take back what she started. She had to hurry because she was in trouble so she jumped out the
tower and started running into town. She was on her way and then got in a boat to make her trip faster,

The Rise Of Consumerism During World War II
In today s times, Americans are never too far from a drive through fast food restaurant or a shopping
mall. Products such as televisions, microwaves, and cars are necessities in homes in 2014. America
was not always the consumerist nation it is now. With thousands of American servicemen returning
home after World War II, the United States was filled with an energy that had long been repressed by
an economic depression in the 1930 s. By the 1950 s, Americans were ready to move on from the war
and start families. Thousands of jobs were created to accommodate all those retuning home, which
caused the United States economy to flourish. Since more people were working and receiving higher
wages, they were eager to start spending. Because of this, consumerism skyrocketed in the 1950 s.
Along with positive post war attitudes, suburbanization and the development of new products can also
be attributed to the rise of consumerism during this period.
As many American men fought in World War II, the United States economy had slowly started to pick
itself up after a devastating crash in 1929 that lasted over a decade. Most men were drafted into the
war, which left many jobs open back in the States. To fill these jobs women and African Americans
were recruited to fill them, thus making unemployment nearly nonexistent during this period. After
World War II had ended, Americans came home with a determination to keep the recovery going. A
key way to achieve this was to spend money.

Argumentative Essay On Gay Rights
The bible is a collection of accounts, the first of these were compiled over 3500 years ago and the full
bible was first compiled around 1900 years ago. So can this book which was written in an age with
crucifixion and inequality be applicable to a society now driven by phones and jet flights? It is a
comfort to many an enemy to others but can it help untangle the mystery of modern life and help you
find a deeper meaning and purpose for the things you do on earth. This is the question that i m going
to be giving my opinion on in this piece.
Gay rights is something that many in the twenty first century have strived to achieve for people.
However written in the bible (NIV, 1st corinthians 6:9 11) Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor
slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. this was written by paul one of jesus s
apostles who had been taught by jesus himself. This quote from the bible shows that society has
changed a lot since the writing of the bible and some of the views expressed in the bible are no longer
applicable to modern life.
The core morals that are in the bible are still applicable today even more today than maybe be before
as there is growing social unrest , crime is increasing and the wage gap is increasing. One of the main
rules spoken by jesus himself is love your enemies , bless them that curse you, do good to them that
hate you, and pray

  • 2. Theme Of Pride In House Of Mirth It can be duly noted that, regardless of the time period, the history of American lifestyles follow similar patterns. One can easily identify major stepping pinnacles through the literature published at that time. Throughout the novels House of Mirth, A Mercy and the play Death of a Salesman, the thematic realms of Freedom and Confinement, Pride, Respect and Reputation are often explored and we can identify that the lives of these very different set of New Yorkers experience great hardships. First, we will explore the theme of Pride within the novel House of Mirth. Pride is not a groundbreaking theme but is very much evident in numerous characters. Lily Bart herself is guilty of pridefulness and one could argue that her pride had caused her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gryce s assessment of this group, there are boundaries within it which should not be crossed, limiting the members of the society in House of Mirth to a sense of restriction. The self imposed rules prevent people from doing as they please or experiencing the tribulations that life throws at them. Examples of this is that women marry solely for financial purposes, women should not befriend married men or even smoke cigarettes. The people are expected to play their role in this high end society and any deviance from this is condemned. The following quote examines Lily s appearance towards everyone and how she was expected to act.: To Selden s exasperated observation she was only too completely alive to them. She was perfect to every one: subservient to Bertha s anxious predominance, good naturedly watchful of Dorset s moods, brightly companionable to Silverton and Dacey. (Wharton, 2.1.43) The freedom in this society is minimal, even to those who are financially adept. Selden states that his version of success is freedom. Despite that he continues to participate in the menial activities of this society. Previously, we noted that Selden is less restricted in this society and his male gender allows his reputation to stand strong. This is also the case for his sense of freedom. He can feel free only because he is a male and women are constantly confined because they are female. Similarly, Bertha Dorset is completely aware of her downfall if her ... • 4. Special Education Teacher For Extended School Year What is it like to be a Special Education Teacher for Extended School Year? I learned during my field observation that being a special education teacher for Gwinnett County Public School (GCPS) opens the door to many opportunities, one of which is the availability to work as a teacher for Extended School Year (ESY). I also learned in order for students to be eligible for ESY services, they must have an IEP, be in a self contained classroom during the regular school year, and have data to support significant growth/gains made on their individual goals and objectives. In addition, the student has displayed regression when returning from a break. There are limited sites for ESY at the elementary level, as a result ESY is a competitive data based program for both students and teachers. The site I visited was Chattahoochee Elementary School in Duluth, Ga, there I had the opportunity to shadow a teacher in the Moderate/ASD program. Chattahoochee ES is an older, red brick building with a newer addition added to the top of the school. The wing where ESY is held was part of the new addition. It had tile floors, an exterior office, and six classrooms. Two of the six rooms are used as alert and calming areas, within these rooms there was adapted equipment, like a squeeze machine, listening station, and a trampoline. The classroom was divided into sections/areas, using gray partitions and study carols. Within these sections was a play area, individual task area, and reading area. There ... • 5. American Involvement In Ww2 Although the U.S. had yet to become officially involved in the war, most Americans supported the Allies and saw the Germans as antagonists. Americans felt a connection to Great Britain, in particular, because of cultural similarities. When the Germans sunk the Lusitania, a British cruise ship, in 1915, 128 Americans were among those who lost their lives, causing America to become even angrier towards the Germans. At the same time, the British intercepted a message from Germany to Mexico called the Zimmerman Note, asking the government of Mexico to declare war on the U.S. if war broke out between the U. S. and Germany. The note also promised to help Mexico regain the territory of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico if Mexico declared war on the United States. This note was the final push that caused America to fall into the want of war. Thus, on April 6, 1917, the U.S. Congress declared war on Germany. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People have all different tastes, opinions, likes, and dislikes. No matter how people may look, the readers learn in Corduroy that it s wrong to judge people based on their appearance. According to Allure, A national survey taken of 2,500 people, found that 64 percent of people said that the first thing they notice about a person is how attractive he or she is (Conde Nast, 2016). Sometimes people do not even know they are judging them. It starts when you ask one of your friends about a teacher they have had before because you are about to take that individual class. When your friend tells you how they liked the class, how they liked the teacher, and how they liked the work, you automatically have a standard set for that class. Your friend could also tell you that the teacher in the class has been the worst teacher ever. You need to make your own judgment, not go off of what your friends tell you. Your friends could hate the class and the teacher more than anything, and you could end up loving the class and the teacher. Rumors are also another way how students judge the teachers. You go your whole high school career hearing about how bad a particular class or an individual teacher is. You hear about how hard the class is to pass, and you automatically dread having to take that class, but still have two years to go until you take the class. Sometimes the nicest teacher in the world could have a bad day and a student from that class tell everyone how mean she is. • 7. A Study on Operant and Classical Conditioning Operant and Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning best explains reflective responding that is largely controlled by stimuli preceding the response, while operant conditioning is the kind of learning influenced by stimulus events that follow the responses. (Weiten). In operant conditioning, reinforcement is defined as after the fact. Reinforcement follows a response and increases tendency to make the response. In classical conditioning, the reinforcement comes before the response is made and increases tendency to make the response. A middle school teacher intercepted a note that contained personal information, read it out loud, and the student the note was intended for leaves the class and school, feels sick at going to school the next day, and becomes ill at the thought of the teacher. This is a classical conditioning case. (Daniels, 2009). If the student s behavior had happened before the teacher intercepted the note and read it out loud, it would have been a case of operant conditioning. In classical conditioning, the student s reaction to the teacher, classroom, and the school is a conditioned response and creates a physiological reaction. In operant conditioning, the teacher s reaction to the student s behavior, if reversed, would have been conditioned and creates a physiological reaction. Operant responding is controlled by consequences as response outcomes (R O) are learned. In operant conditioning the student s response can be considered a consequence ... • 8. Accounting Policies While Preparing Their Financial... Companies use accounting policies while preparing their financial statements. All financial statements are set to follow an international standard guideline. These policies are available to users of financial statements while making financial decisions in order to make sure that the proper decisions are being made. According to The Financial reporting and analysis article by Gibson, the full disclosure principle states that a company s financial statements should include all the information needed in order for the reader to fully understand statements (Gibson, 2012). Within the research and medical communities, there are disagreements as to which characteristics define an individual as having a condition within ASD. For example, the changes within the 4th and 5th editions of the American Psychiatric Association DSM, removes Asperger s Syndrome as a condition, causing much controversy. It is this controversy about Asperger s Syndrome significance that this review hopes to elucidate. Background: Asperger s syndrome is on the higher functioning spectrum of ASD. Individuals with ASP have similar social awkwardness as in other ASDs; however they are not as incapacitated. There are 3 main deficits that must be present in an individual for Autism to be diagnosed. As referenced in Woodbury Smith and Volkmar 2009 article Asperger Syndrome: absence of cognitive, developmental or language delay in childhood. However, Asperger s, is characterized by severe social impairments, such as restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests and activities [2] Meanwhile, Autism, as defined by the 5th edition of the DSM is, a persistent deficit in social communication and social interaction across multiple contexts [1] there are three main deficits an individual must show in order to be diagnosed with autism. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a late 14th century Middle English alliterative romance about the adventure of Sir Gawain, King Arthur s Knight of the Round Table. This great verse is praised not only for its complex plot and rich language, but also for its sophisticated use of symbolism. Symbolism is a technique used in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to give a significance to the plot. The Green Knight, the Green Sash, and Sir Gawain s Shield are three of the most prominent symbols given to us in this verse. The Green Knight, serves as a symbol himself. He is presented as a mixture of foreign and familiar, evil and good. In the beginning the Green Knight is carrying peace(holly branch) in one hand and war(battle axe) in the other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In English folklore green was used to show rebirth, and a youth s passing (Lewis 50 51). In the story the sash also represents cowardice, he gave into the lady and lied about the present (Goldhurst 61 65). The fear of death ended up causing his downfall. In the end the sash was worn by all at the Round Table, to show them the lesson learned by Gawain both in his rebirth in learning his lesson and in remembrance of his sacrifice for King Arthur. The Power of Three is also a strong occurrence in this writing, and in many Old English works. Sir Gawain has three different events in three stages: the three hunts, the three seductions, and the three axe swings; all three relate to each other. The hunt by Sir Gawain s host and the Seduction of Gawain by the lady are closely related to each other, but with a twist, in the seduction scenes it is the hunter being hunted by the prey. During the first hunt, the Lords prey is a deer. The deer is skittish and an easy catch, in the seduction scene Sir Gawain is able to easily escape the trap from the lady. The Lord let the buck pass by as it was counted a crime to molest the male deer (Poet 1154 6). As it was a crime to molest a male deer, it was also a crime for the lady to molest the male deer. The Lady intimidated Sir Gawain, and this is where the first swing of the Green Knights axe relates. The Green Knight stops the first swing just as Sir Gawain stopped the first seduction. • 13. Margaret Cavendish s Use Of Imagery To hunt or be hunted Imagery of the hunt traces back to Francesco Petrarch s sonnets, and perhaps further. This imagery has been predominantly used by male writers, and consequently the trope is framed through the male voice. It generally features a male lover in the position of the huntsman, and his female object of desire in the position of the hunted, often represented as a deer or a bird. As a result, the metaphor of the hunt is often romanticized and huntsmans are disarmed and portrayed as lovers. Margaret Cavendish responds to this trope with her poem The Hunting of the Hare, in which she provides a much different understanding of the interaction by writing from the point of view of the hunted. Cavendish flips the narrative to expose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with sympathy: Cavendish sets up the hunted, rather than the huntsmen, as the object of sympathy. In order to do so, she first personifies the hare. She gives him a name: Wat, which already humanizes the creature and directs the reader s sympathy towards the hare rather than the huntsmen, who have yet to be introduced. The hare is also depicted using his forefeet [to rub] his face from dust, and sweat (40), an action similar to a person using their hands to wipe their face. Furthermore, Cavendish describes the hare s weeping eyes (81), and since most animals cannot weep it further personifies the hare by ascribing to him a human expression of deep emotion. In personifying the hare, Cavendish diminishes the distance between the creature and her readers, making it easier to relate to and sympathize with the hare. Secondly, Cavendish sets Wat up to be an intelligent and rational creature. She opens the poem by presenting him lying in a calculated and well thought out position to stay warm and fend off the wind. She further claims that he is wise (7), and references His thoughts (24). Lastly, Wat s intelligence is exemplified by his clever use of a strategy: he decides to try Winding about, for to deceive [the dog s] scent (36). By establishing that the hare is a thinking being, Cavendish elevates him to somewhere between man and the beast. In doing so, she allows her readers to relate to him better, and it helps demonize the hunters who do not treat him as a thinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aristotle s objective was to come up with a universal process of reasoning that would allow man to learn every imaginable thing about reality. He wrote on a vast amount of subjects during his lifetime, such as biology, chemistry, physics, ethics and logic. Aristotle wrote a book called, Nicomachean Ethics. This book describes the view of friendship. He also describes three different type of friendship, which in reality is exactly how friendship is in today society. The question while reading this information is what is friendship in Aristotle point of view? Aristotle believes that there are three different kinds of friendship; that of utility, friendship of pleasure, and virtuous friendship. In his book he describe exactly what each type of friendship really is. Friendship that is of utility is where both people derive some benefit from each other. Is like saying that these people are friends from each other by gaining something else from the other. They are not friends for the good of it; they are friends because there are benefits coming from them. Aristotle describes a friendship of utility as narrow, easily dissolved or for the old. There are many cellular mechanisms involved with protein synthesis. Before the process of protein synthesis can be described, a person must know what proteins are made out of. There are four basic levels of protein organization. The first is primary structure, followed by secondary structure, then tertiary structure, and the last level is quaternary structure. Once someone understands the makeup of a protein, they can then begin to learn how elements can combine and go from genes to protein. These new formations are held together by hydrogen bonds. The third level is the tertiary structure. The tertiary structure of a protein is a contorted secondary structure being twisted and folded all out of shape to form a 3 d complex. The type of bonding that holds these formations together are weak interactions such as hydrophilic, hydrophobic, ionic, and hydrogen bonds. These bonds are individually weak, but collectively strong. The forth level, which completes a protein, is quaternary structure, which occurs when two or more tertiary structures are joined together by polypeptide bonds. The formation of a protein begins in the genes, which contain the basic building information for all parts of living organisms. There are four DNA nucleotides that make up genes: A, T, C, and G. A codon is any arrangement of three of these nucleotides. Each triplet of nucleotides codes for one amino acid. First transcription will begin in the nucleus where mRNA will transcribe the DNA template. During both transcription and translation, there are three steps. The first step in transcription is initiation where RNA polymerase separates a DNA strand and binds RNA nucleotides to the DNA. RNA nucleotides are the same as DNA ones except that U replaces the T. The second is just the elongation of the mRNA. The third step of transcription is termination. This occurs when RNA polymerase reads a codon region and the mRNA separates from the ... It affected Spain in the 1300s as well as England in the 1800s and 1900s. The definitions of financialization are many. One definition says that with regard to the operation of the economy, it has to do with the increasing importance of financial markets, motives, institutions, and elites (Assa 2012). Adam Smith defined it as the growing scale and profitability of the finance sector at the expense of the rest of the economy and the shrinking regulation of its rules and returns (Collins 2015). It has also been said that in addition to its influence over the economy, its reach extends to other societal institutions such as government (Gautam 2014). The literature on financialization written in the last few decades highlights negative impacts on both the real and financial sides of the economy (Assa 2012). According to Palley (2007), financialization causes economies to slow their growth and become fragile with a very real potential outcome being recession. When the financial sector has more power, it takes precedence over the real sector. It takes money from the real sector and gives it to the financial sector resulting in huge wage disparities and stagnation in the real sector. Fallacies Of The Body Of Work Essay The body of work, Logical Fallacies Handlist: Arguments to Avoid when Writing, explains that fallacies are statements that may sound logical, but contains information that makes it illogical. Fallacies, when detected, can depict the writer as an individual that lacks intelligence or the ability to be honest, which is why it is important to avoid this when composing an argument. Having the capacity to identify them in others arguments is equally as important, as it allows the reader to identify when the arguer attempts to mislead them. Fallacies of relevance do not, logically, relate to the argument, but does so emotionally or psychologically. For instance, Argumentum ad Baculum, also known as the appeal to force, uses force, or threats of force by the writer, to persuade the reader to side with them. Also, genetic fallacies are similar to argumentum ad hominem and base its claim on the idea that the premise is correct due to its origin. Although analogous to genetic fallacies, argumentum ad hominem diverts the discussion of an argument by criticizing or praising the individual that is making the case. Argumentum ad hominem is fallacious in that the debater s character does not validate or negate an argument. At the beginning of the poem, the narrator feels anger and sorrow since he is forced to clean chimneys instead of being able to run and play like a normal kid would usually do, but as the poem continues to develop, there s a shift present. This shift happens when the kid has a dream about a thousand of chimney sweepers like him being happy and having fun in the clouds. During the dream there s symbolism of death portrayed by the coffins. The angel goes to the coffins with a magical key and sets them free. This is also a symbol of heaven because the kids are floating in the clouds in a fantasy world. The shift in this story is very powerful because it gives the kid a purpose for living his miserable life and changes his attitude and perspective towards it. ... Both rhyme schemes are very easy to identify since they vary between two very common patterns which are: AABB and ABAB. The author makes it very simple since his biggest goal is to convey the message that the chimney sweepers suffered back in those days. Another similarity between the poems, is the use of figurative language. in The Chimney Sweeper, the author uses a simile in order to describe the physical appearance of Tom. his head that curl d like a lamb s back. with the imagery of the poem. in addition to that, in the other poem the author uses a metaphor to symbolize death. • 30. Wheattone Bridge Essay Introduction In the 19th century, Samuel Hunter Christie invented the diamond method for circuits, the initial idea to the Wheatstone bridge. However, bridge circuits, circuits with parallel resistors, bridged by a branch between them, were used to measure small voltages; but, the Wheatstone bridge is used to measure an unknown resistance using all the others three known resistance in the circuit. During the lab, the Wheatstone Bridge concept for a bridge circuit was used to determine the unknown resistor in the circuit, see in figure 1. The objective was to measure the voltages between points on the branch between the first two resistors in series on top and bottom ones, in which were connected in parallel. Thereafter, test the voltage calculated at different temperatures, those being room temperature, ice water and hot water; by using a thermistor in the circuit, that helps calibrate the Wheatstone bridge as a thermometer. Methods Firstly, the protoboard was powered with 1 volts coming from the power supply. The circuit was assembled by connecting two resistors in series on top and one resistor and the thermistor in series on the bottom connected to the top branch in parallel. The left end of the circuit was powered by 1 v from the power supply and the rightmost end was grounded. The thermistor was placed on the bottom branch of the circuit by two wires that connected to the protoboard and to the thermistor in which were long enough to allow the thermistor to be ... Introduction This thesis is devoted to an investigation of the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for biometric person recognition. The traditional ways of access control include using token based identification systems, such as a driver s license or passport, and knowledge based identification systems, such as a password or personal identification number [1]. Biometric person recognition, however, relies on human physiological and/or behavioural characteristics for establishing identity. A range of such distinctive, measurable characteristics can be used have been successfully used to recognize individuals. Biometric modalities/identifiers are considered to be unique to individuals: they may be more reliable in verifying identity than token and knowledge based methods [1]. One limitation of the specially designed database is the number of subjects included for data capture using the low cost sensor system. The self collected database contains 27 subjects with recordings from multiple sessions made on different days, which may still not be large enough to justify the statistical significance of the obtained results. Furthermore, due to the quality of the data from the low cost sensor, it can be predicted that with the number of subjects further increasing, the recognition performance of the EEG biometric system tends to reduce. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a recording of the electrical activities of the brain along the scalp, which is generally considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carte writes within and against fairy tales by this it is meant that she both conforms to some of the conventions of the genre and deliberately deviates from them purposely to illustrate her points. Billions of dollars have been spent in research, causing controversy about whether scientists should invest in the hunt for extraterrestrial beings. Experts cannot rule out life under the ice on Europa, because of the similarities to the Earth s environment. Therefore, they must carry on researching. Even though finding similar environments to inhabitable areas on the Earth is helpful, it may hold little importance when discovering life. Open University s Preston says, Most of the environments we used to think were sterile are proving to have life. Every time we think we ve found somewhere on Earth that life can t survive in, we go and find a part of life that can (Fecht). This could be true on other planets as well, so scientists do not have to look for planets with similar environments to Earth. Aliens may have adapted to a different environment than Earth s. Scientists have discovered living beings in places on Earth which seemed unlivable, so if humans look at planets that seem uninhabitable they may find life as well. Once again, with this new knowledge, scientists should proceed in searching for extraterrestrials. Although some evidence suggests that extraterrestrial life exists in outer space, some evidence proves otherwise. Lack of valid evidence and economic consequences associated with the search for extraterrestrials discourages scientists to continue with the investigation. The methodology has proven to work in this case and in several other cases as well. If factual guilt was used, the chances of Sinclair getting the same sentence would be considerably high. The reason why legal guilt would be better is to prevent people from being punished unnessarily. • 42. Lady Of Shalott The Lady of Shalott This is a marvelous piece, which has been renewed and revised a countless amount of times. The earliest story, which relates to this poem, is Shrek. The reason why it is related is because, in The Lady of Shalott the lady is trapped in the tower and can t get out (or the curse that is put on her will be unleashed). In Shrek, Fiona (which is the lady in the movie) must stay in the tower until her true love comes to her rescue (orders from her dad). Fiona is guarded by a dragon and she s locked up in a tall tower which is surrounded by lava, so someone has to build up enough courage to deal with all that hoopla. She is also cursed though, when dawn hits and until the sun comes up, she turns into an ogre. So these stories, which are very different at parts, are so similar in others. The author of The Lady of Shalott is Mr. Tennyson (Alfred, Tennyson). He also wrote In Memoriam, A.H.H. , Tears, Idle Tears , and a passage we have already been through Ulysses . • 45. The Rise Of Consumerism During World War II In today s times, Americans are never too far from a drive through fast food restaurant or a shopping mall. Products such as televisions, microwaves, and cars are necessities in homes in 2014. America was not always the consumerist nation it is now. With thousands of American servicemen returning home after World War II, the United States was filled with an energy that had long been repressed by an economic depression in the 1930 s. By the 1950 s, Americans were ready to move on from the war and start families. Thousands of jobs were created to accommodate all those retuning home, which caused the United States economy to flourish. Since more people were working and receiving higher wages, they were eager to start spending. Because of this, consumerism skyrocketed in the 1950 s. Along with positive post war attitudes, suburbanization and the development of new products can also be attributed to the rise of consumerism during this period. As many American men fought in World War II, the United States economy had slowly started to pick itself up after a devastating crash in 1929 that lasted over a decade. Most men were drafted into the war, which left many jobs open back in the States. To fill these jobs women and African Americans were recruited to fill them, thus making unemployment nearly nonexistent during this period. After World War II had ended, Americans came home with a determination to keep the recovery going. A key way to achieve this was to spend money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a comfort to many an enemy to others but can it help untangle the mystery of modern life and help you find a deeper meaning and purpose for the things you do on earth. This is the question that i m going to be giving my opinion on in this piece. Gay rights is something that many in the twenty first century have strived to achieve for people. The core morals that are in the bible are still applicable today even more today than maybe be before as there is growing social unrest , crime is increasing and the wage gap is increasing.
