The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student...
There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today
particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests
notwithstanding, they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities
and needs. Having worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of
Paramus (Bergen Tech), a vocational technical high schoolwith a predominantly special needs
population, I find it unfortunate that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in
recent years been directed to focus on cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of
Achievement and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive
measures that could provide insight into student emotional health and personality. For school staff
endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to adulthood and guide them toward brighter more
fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be used to help clarify needs, determine the severity
of problems, make predictions about future behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations.
It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo
tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality
testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and
respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the

Harlem Vs Post-Modernism
Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness said by Alejandro Jodorowski. Writing between the
Harlem Renaissance and Post Modernism is very similar in that they both address social issues,
from racism to self harm. The Harlem Renaissance poems, The Negro Speaks of Rivers and I,
Too can be compared to the Post Modernist poems Cut and Manhattan Buddha through the use of
figurative language and subject material. In both stories Cut by Sylvia Plath and I, Too by
Langston Hughes, they address serious issues. In Cut a girl finds joy in cutting her thumb instead
of an onion (Plath 2). Self harm is a serious issue in today s society. Plath does a good job at
portraying the way the girl enjoys inflicting pain on herself and admires the cut. Another serious
issue that has been around for centuries is racism. In the story I, Too , Hughes displays the feelings
the man gets when he is left out at dinners when they have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In The Negro Speak of Rivers , the man is describing the things he has seen and the way his soul
has grown deep like the rivers (Hughes 3). Hughes uses pathos in this story to relate to the
reader and make it mean something to them in the way that the man is so appreciative of simple
things such as rivers. He bathed in rivers and lived next to them and still appreciates what they
have done for him. This is similar in Manhattan Buddha when a man is torn between jumping
from a building or burning in it. Even with a choice of how to pass he sees it all and smiles
(Smith Soto 8). This relates to pathos to make the readers think about how content and at peace he
was with what was happening. It also relates back to the reader s emotions relating to the events at
9/11. Both Hughes and Smith Soto tap into the reader s emotions by their use of figurative

Cultural Diversity
What kinds of clothes do you wear? What types of music do you like? What foods do you eat?
Your clothing, music, and foods, along with other factors such as religion, family structure, and
values, are all part of your culture. Culture refers to the attitudes, values, customs, and behavior
patterns that characterize a social group (Banks, 2001). The enormous impact of culture is
illustrated by its influence on all aspects of our lives (Gollnick Chinn, 2002). An activity as basic
as eating is one example:
в—Џ
Culture not only helps to determine what foods we eat, but it also influences when we eat (for
example, one, three, or five meals and at what time of the day); with whom we eat (that is, only
with the same sex, with children or with the extended family); how we eat (for example, at a table
or on the floor; with chopsticks, silverware, or the fingers); and the ritual of eating (for example, in

Andrew Jackson Was A Leader
Introduction Andrew Jackson was a leader. He was a leader on the battlefront, a leader in office
and a leader in his beliefs. Jackson had certain fundamental beliefs that shaped him as a person
and would be the foundation for which he would rule the country. He stood by those beliefs and
fought for what he saw as the right way. During his life, Jackson would fight many battles and
tackle many fundamental opponents. Here, the topic brings into focus one area of importance to
Jackson, the national bank, and individual states rights, as well as some the opponents he faced
during only a few of the many issues he would take on during his lifetime. A few years into his
term, Jackson set out to shut down the Second Bank of the United States.... Show more content on

Biddle then stated that the Bank would spear head one of Jackson s personal causes by
intending to pay off the National debt, in Jackson s honor. The offer came with the condition
that the Bank would be granted a charter extension. Biddle also began to offer loans and
financial favors to Jackson s friends and backers, proving to Jacksons that his initial thoughts
were correct in thinking that the Bank could play to the political policies and involve themselves
in political processes. (Warshauer) Biddle took Jackson by surprise when he asked for a re
charter four years before their current charter expired, which also happened to be an election year.
Biddle played on the belief that he could force Jackson s hand out of fear from causing an election
issue in the upcoming voting. Biddle was incorrect. (Warshauer) The re charter bill went on the
Senate floor in March and was graciously met with much support. Jackson issued a veto that would
try not to anger the public and in return, not cost the Democrats support in the fall election. Jackson
s veto played off of the stockholding policies of foreign citizens and the questions the Bank s
monopoly, which brought up questions about the Constitutional laws that it might infringe upon.
Jackson argued that its favoritism went against the role of a government that should stand for
honesty, equality, and fairness. Congress tried

Classical Conditioning Vs. Operant Conditioning Essay
1.
a) Define Classical Conditioning and Behaviorism. b) Identify the two major characteristics that
distinguish classical conditioning from operant conditioning.
Classical Conditioning is a type of learning process of an individual when they come in contact
with certain stimuli. According to Pavlov, a Russian psychologist, he developed several
experiments on learning and he discovered that classical condition is the basic form of learning for
an individual. However, according to Pavlov, behaviorism is the view that psychology should be the
main objective science that studies behavior without including mental processes of an individual in
the investigation. Behaviorism is more about the person s behavior and how they were influenced
to act a certain why, including their surroundings. Thus, from this learning process many
behaviorist believes that the basic laws of learning are similar for all different species, including
humans. Furthermore, the two major characteristics that distinguish classical conditioning from
operant conditioning is that in classical conditioning, an unconditioned response is an event that
happens naturally in response to some stimuli such as salivation. Another characteristic is an
unconditioned stimuli, which is a process where an individual naturally discovers something
without learning the process and reacts to the unlearned response, For instance, when someone put
food in there mouth this causes salivation. A conditioned stimuli in classical

Timeless Literature Project
Earlier this year I was assigned the Timeless Literature Project. I went straight to my mom and
asked what book she recommended I read, she told me to read Lord of the Flies. Now that I ve
read it and spoken to her many times about the book, I d like to share some thoughts that we
generated in our final discussion. We spoke about how the Cold War was a major influence in
my mom s life and how she thought that the book was set in that time. I talked about how I
could relate Ralph s losing of innocence. We both agreed that this story can be applied in areas of
today s culture such as my mother s pre school class, the turmoil in the middle east, or even
Langston Hughes Middle School. The overarching question we had was if all of this anarchy,...

However, I greatly enjoyed reading the book and got a lot out of it. For one thing, recreations of
this story can be seen everywhere in society and in my life, I don t think I ll see the world
through the same lens. I thought that Ralph was a very relatable character, in that he only asked
the boys to do one thing (keep the fire going) and they wouldn t listen. I find myself in that
situation quite often. Lord of the Flies was a relatively short and fast paced book, so my mom hit
that right on the nose, but the recommendation was a little bit advanced for my reading level.
Nevertheless, I could still understand the main points and themes. I deem this book timeless
because of it s unique ability to explain the dark desires of human nature in a way that applies to
everyone. My discussion with my mom was awkward at first, but as we got into the groove of
things I learned a lot about her and gained a whole new perspective on the book. I recommend this
book to a peer with a greater reading ability than me, and a better grasp on the themes of life
because having that deeper understanding of literature and human existence would only enhance
the reader s experience with Lord of the

Vera Cooper Rubin was born July 23, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA. Her father was Philip Cooper, an
electrical engineer, and her mother Rose. She first developed an interest in astronomy at the age
of 10 while stargazing from her home in Washington D.C. Her father encouraged her to follow
her dreams and took her to amateur astronomer meetings. She earned her Bachelor s degree from
Vassar University in 1948 of which she was the only astronomy major that year. Later she earned

Famous For She is most notable for providing a great deal of compelling evidence, alongside Dr.
Kent Ford, that proved Fritz Zwicky s Theory of the existence of Dark Matter.2 Zwicky stated that
individual galaxies within the Coma Cluster were moving so fast that if they were only held by
the gravity of its visible mass that it would escape. Since he found no evidence of the cluster
falling apart he concluded that there must be something else holding it together that was nearly
10 times that of visible matter, he called this Dark matter.2 While working with Dr. Ford, they
began analyzing the light coming from stars in spiral galaxies. They used what is called the
Doppler effect which states the wavelength shift is proportional to the speed of the light source
relative to the observer. This uses the wavelength of light in how it is approaching or moving
away from the observer. When a light source moves away from you it presents a red color and
when it comes toward you it presents a blue light. After measuring several stars in different parts

Court Terminology
In the United States, we have laws that require punishment for people that conduct themselves in a
negative social behavior. Understanding how our court systems utilize this legislation to ensure that
negative social behavior can be corrected. When looking at how these laws are placed into use in
our criminal justicesystems, one must understand the difference between the court terminology of
law on the books and law in action (Neubauer and Fradella, 2009).
When studying the language of law on the books, a person must understand that this means the
letter of the law (Neubauer and Fradella, 2009). These laws are seen in different places such as both
state and federal legislation in the United States that find their force from the Constitution ... Show

This case was one that was charged with many emotional aspects involved due to the number of
victims, and the amount of violent that took place in this house of worship. Dylann Roff
maintained his innocents and forced the case to trial (Martinez, 2015).
When looking at the other element of the functionality of law in our court systems, the law in
action, one must understand that this is literary the way the actors in the courtroom interpret the
letter of the law. These players in the court room are the judges, lawyers, the defendant, and victims
(Neubauer and Fradella, 2009). The law in action can be very confusing to the average person
because of the many different interpolations that can come from so many different actors in the
court system.
In the case of Roff, the interpterion of the rule of law as the term hate crime is an enhancement
factor in the sentencing stage of a murder conviction (The Guardian, 2017). The judge and jury
heard the arguments of both the prosecution and the defense, Mr. Roff, on why this murder
conviction meet or did not meet the status of a hate crime. In the end, Mr. Roff was sentenced for
the actions of committing a hate crime. This case shows us the application of both the law on the

Brutal abuse, the true love that cannot come into fruition, and not allowed to think for oneself a
normal or un strong person would have crumbled under these situations. In the book Like Water

the many themes in this book. Theme is defined as the main idea or an underlying meaning of a
literary work. Throughout the book we are encountered with examples of violence or abuse that
leads to the strengthening of the character Tita. The true love that characters Pedro and Tita are
denied and when they do find it, it lasts only for a mere moment. Lastly the emotional repression

Similarly, Dr. Joseph S. Volpe a B.C.E.T.S. (Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress) states in
his research that those who suffer from domestic violence or abuse may become withdrawn, non
verbal...and [have] sleep difficulty (Volpe). All traits that Tita suffered at one point or another in
the book for example, the case of insomnia Tita developed and so she worked on the bedspread
and wept furiously, weeping and working until dawn... for as long as she lived (Esquivel 19). As
is show by both author and trauma expert Tita was so far pushed by her mother that she ended up
breaking.
Furthermore, Esquivel builds up Tita and Pedro s characters through the theme of true love by
denying that love to them. As an example, this is displayed to the reader almost immediately in
the book when Pedro comes to ask Mama Elena for the hand of Tita in marriage but is immediately
denied that request by Mama Elena. Pedro is then forced to accept her counter offer of marrying
her sister Rosaura When you re told there s no way you can marry the woman you love and your
only hope of being near her is to marry her sister, wouldn t you do the same (15). As well as when

infrastructure from a networking perspective are standardized service interfaces between different
clouds; the existing publish find bind pattern for service interaction can be reused. The SDI can
incorporate data mining techniques that would help in creation of geospatial or aspatial
relationships between data based on the ontology or geographic information. This would help

The Andes Mountains Of Bolivia
In the Andes Mountains of Bolivia, in a far, tucked away corner lay a beautiful green field. This
place had a family living on it who were very hard workers, but they also were very poor. There
was a middle aged man and women living on this farm. Along with them they had a son. The
father and his son would get up just before the crack of dawn and would work until lunch and then
keep working until dusk. For all this hard work they made very little money. The familycould not
afford an education for their son, so the motherhome schooled the boy at night so he could work
in the fields during the day. The boy and his father would go into town every week to get much
needed groceries for themselves. They would get a lift from a local friend who knew the family
very well. When they went into town, which only had a population of about 250 people, the boy
would look in amazement at how many people could fit into one place. The one thing that the boy
took notice to were the posters placed all over the place. Here, there, everywhere, were posters of
the famous Bolivian Formula Onedriver who had grown up with nothing and is now living and
racing on a grand scale, and is leading for the Formula One drivers championship. The poster next
to him said Karting Jr. race league! First race next Saturday! $30 dollars to join.

Dispute: Humans and fish are nothing alike: we have hands with fingers, they have fins. It s an

being that humans may after all be closely related to fish. When first hearing this theory, for
anyone it is hard to believe. Humans have fingers and fishes have fins! They have gills and we
have lungs! Many things point towards the fact that humans have nothing in common with fish
until one looks at the bone structure of each and how exceptionally similar they are. The reason
for the similarity is because both species share a common ancestor. All animals with limbs have
a common design. If a batwing were to be formed from a person s hand, make the fingers
extremely long; a horse elongates the middle fingers and reduce and lose the outer ones; frogs
elongate the bones of the leg and fuse several of them together. All in all, despite radical changes
in what limbs do and what they look like, this underlying blueprint is always present. Before

Kiss Of Judas Essay
1.The painting I have chosen is called the Kiss of Judas by Giotto di Bondone, a Florentine
painter and architect. This painting is standing approximately twelve feet tall. It was created in
the fourteenth century between the early years of 1305 1306 in the South Wall of Scrovegni,
Chapel in Padua, Italy. The materials Giotto di Bondone used were called fresco painting.
Fresco is Italian for the word French According to ArtLex it is A method of painting on plaster,
either dry (dry fresco or fresco secco) or wet (wet or true fresco). In the latter method, pigments
are applied to thin layers of wet plaster so that they will be absorbed and the painting becomes part
of the wall .

When it comes down to the visual elements of a painting Giotto di Bondone knows how to make
his paintings come to life. The Kiss of Judas, to me, seems to be a painted with a sense of
realism. Not only with the way had the clothes fit around the people in these paintings bodies but
also the color. Blue, yellow, and red is shown to be very important colors to capture this moment.
With these colors the shadows are brought out to make this painting look natural. As I mentioned
before the setting is a bit dark and Bondone uses a certain balance between what the people are
wearing and the outside frame. The most important element I seen was the lines. When Judas is
kissing Jesus you can see the torches creating a certain line focusing on their faces of this kiss. The
second thing I notice is the space in this painting. Looking to the left there is a man pulling another

Urinary System Lab Report
The urinary system s primary function is to filter the blood and remove the body s excess ions as
well as waste, all whilst preserving water and other substances the body requires. The major
components of this system are the kidneys, ureters and the urethra [1].
The nervous system receives its continuous supply of nutrients from the blood any disruption to this
flow, and brain damage or death could result. The stability of the internal environment is known as
homeostasis. Under normal circumstances, water consumption and loss vary significantly.
Therefore, it is vital that humans have mechanisms to control this system. In a 70kg person,
approximately 60% of that body weight is water [2].

The Major Problem With Nhst Essay
The Major Problem With NHST
Kirk (1996) had major criticisms of NHST. According to Kirk, the procedure does not tell
researchers what they want to know: In scientific inference, what we want to know is the
probability that the null hypothesis (H0) is true given that we have obtained a set of data (D);
that is, p(H0|D). What null hypothesis significance testing tells us is the probability of obtaining
these data or more extreme data if the null hypothesis is true, p(D|H0). (p. 747) Kirk (1996) went
on to explain that NHST was a trivial exercise because the null hypothesis is always false, and
rejecting it is merely a matter of having enough power. In this study, we investigated how textbooks
treated this major problem of NHST. Current best practice in this area is open to debate (e.g., see
Harlow, Mulaik, Steiger, 1997). A number of prominent researchers advocate the use of confidence
intervals in place of NHST on grounds that, for the most part, confidence intervals provide more
information than a significance test and still include information necessary to determine statistical
significance (Cohen, Gliner, Leech, Morgan 85 1994; Kirk, 1996). For those who advocate the use
of NHST, the null hypothesis of no difference (nil hypothesis) should be replaced by a null
hypothesis specifying some nonzero value based on previous research (Cohen, 1994; Mulaik, Raju,
Harshman, 1997). Thus, there would be less chance that a trivial difference between intervention
and control

Liberty Was Not Absolute For Anyone In The Beginning Stages
Liberty was not absolute for anyone in the beginning stages of America. An anonymous author
wrote, God gave mankind freedom by nature and made every man equal to his neighbor.
Unfortunately, for the African American slaves, women and the Native Americans, freedom was
hard to obtain until the American Revolution changed the principals of independence.
African Americans have an extraordinary past that includes the lifestyles before slavery, during
slavery, and the beginning of the abolition and petitions which lead to their freedom. Many people
are unaware of the African American lifestyle before slavery took place. Much like the Europeans,
African Americans lived similar lifestyles with homes and families, rich and poor classes, enjoyed

The new independence talks about having freedom and unfree labor but that s not the case for
African Americans. The abolition and emancipation was a slow process because veterans of the
war were promised 300 acres of land and a slave. This made the process difficult for whites to
accept the fact that if the slaves were granted freedom, they would possibly have their land taken
as well as their slaves. Another possible cause for the slow start of slave freedom is that all the
founding fathers owned slaves which then made people think that it s okay to own slaves as well.
Slaves began to run away from their masters to British lines and would try to pass as freeborn.
General Henry Clinton offered sanctuary to any slave that escaped to British lines. Soon, Northern
states and the upper parts of the south began emancipation of slaves. Free communities started to
emerge which led to families, schools, churches and leaders to grow and live. Finally, African
Americans had their freedom back and began to start a community.
Women before the American Revolution were viewed as weak, less important and not as
intelligent as men. The rights and freedom of women were nonexistent; women couldn t vote,
own property, sign contracts and/or wills or divorce their husbands. The man of the family had
total power and authority over their wives and children. The common role for a woman was to

Political Participation Case Study
3. Write an essay in which you discuss how public opinion differs among various groups in
America according to race and ethnicity, religion, and region. What impact, if any, may this have
on each group s level of political participation and responsiveness by elected officials?
Public Opinion differs greater among various groups in America according to race and ethnicity,
religion, and region. This has a great effect on group s level of political participation and
responsiveness by elected officials. This can be seen especially in the case of race and ethnicity. An
example of this is the Mexican community and the issue of immigration. As many individuals a part

As Caucasians in the United States have started the #Alllivesmatter, as well as the
##blacklivesmatter movement against the #blacklivesmatter movement. Caucasians also have
more political influence, as many elected officials are caucasian, and therefore there is a quicker
response time compared to other races and ethnicities. This distinction is also seen in religion, in
the case of Islam and Christianity. For example, the islamic community takes offense to the term
radical Islam, however many individuals not a part of that community view it as dangerous.
This is partially due to terrorism efforts, such as that of I.S.I.S., and the 9/11 attacks. Meanwhile
we can see that there is a larger response by the media on the war on Christmas against
Christianity, in which Christmas novelties are being removed from public spaces. This has
garnered the response of media groups such as Fox, who are against the war on Christmas. This
has all led to an increase in political participation by Christians compared to Muslims, due to the
fact that the communities are being persecuted when they do participate. We can also see that
Christians see a quicker response time in this. Region also plays a major

Plastic Pollution Case Study
There are a variety of stakeholders involved in the worldwide issue of plastic pollution including
local, national and international governments, non government organizations (NGO s) and
corporations with all these stakeholders having a different range of perspectives and solutions on
the matter it is increasingly difficult to gain consensus on how to jointly address this global
problem. (reference).
The Department of the Environment and Heritage NSW, Local GovernmentNSW (Local), The
Government of NSW (State), The Australian Government (National) and The United Nations
(International) seem to underestimate the effects of plastic and general marine pollution. Most
government agencies seem to be more worried with economic issues of the clean up and
enforcement costs. Resources like the fishing and tourism industries, public opinion, government
policies, laws and legislations, future elections, risks of high unemployment rates if major
corporations are taxed excessively or policies such as Extended Producer Responsibility are
enforced may affect the economy and the health of the population and the environment. On the
other hand, Non government stake holders such as Boomerang Alliance (Local), Clean up Australia
(National) and Greenpeace (International) are trying to raise awareness for the issue and educating
the public on the long term negative effects of plastic marine pollution and preserving the health of
the environment and oceans for the future generations to come (Plastic Pollution Coalition, 2017).
A variety of these nongovernment organisations are raising funds to help with cleaning up the
environment and putting pressure on the governments locally, nationally and internationally to
recognise the global impact of plastic marine pollution and take responsibility for the damage this
pollution causes and help with the clean up and maintenance of the marine environment to keep the
problem under control. Although there are major corporations as stakeholders that are trying to
help and support the clean up of the environment such as Coca Cola Amatil, Nestle, Schweppes
Australia, Lion Pty Ltd and PepsiCo, they are also major contributors to the issue due to the types
of packaging that they use for their

Investigating The Biochemical Systems Evolved
By looking at the basic biochemistry most organisms share, we can start putting together how the
biochemical systems evolved. However, up until the eighties, scientists were still baffled by a
chicken and egg debate. All modern organisms require nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to build
proteins (Leslie 99), and the proteins are needed in the formation of nucleic acids. The mystery of
which came first: RNAor DNAwas solved when a new property of RNA was discovered. There
are some RNAs that are capable of catalyzing chemical reactions. This means that RNA is capable
of storing genetic information, as well as cause chemical reactions vital for self replication. This
breakthrough tentatively solved the mystery of which came first: RNA or DNA.... Show more

Analyzing ATP together with other molecular fossils, scientists have discovered that catalytic
RNA and molecular fossils are closely related to nucleic acids; suggesting that RNA was crucial to
earth s first life. This observations support the RNA world hypothesis, that earth s first life used
RNA for basic cellular process rather than the mix of proteins, DNA and RNA used by current
organisms (Lazcano et al. 283).
Genetics with inheritable evolutionary selection could have come into place with RNA
servicing as a self replicator, hence uniting the properties a replicator capable of inheriting
information at the same time having the ability to evolve (Leslie 100). Explaining how RNA
molecules came about on the basis of prebiotic chemistry is challenging but possible (Choudhary
655). Therefore, experiments have illustrated that RNA can form self replicating molecules, and
RNA has been applied successfully in directed evolution experiments (Biebricher et al., 630). In
addition, there are numerous potential traces of RNA world present in modern cells. Several
viruses use RNA as their genetic material; this proves that RNA is capable of carrying genetic
information. RNA can also reversely transcribed into DNA, and the biological synthesis process
leading to deoxynucleotides is founded on desoxylation of ribonucleotides, showing that RNA
preceded DNA. Additionally, RNA is a functional and structural

Poly (Оµ caprolactone) is an aliphatic polyester that is commonly used for biomedical
applications as well as for tissue engineering and drug delivery. The physical and biological
properties of PCL makes it a useful biomedical material[7].
Because PCL contains five CH2 Moieties in its repeating units, it doesn t degrade quickly which
makes it suitable for commercial sutures or delivery devices as well as for applications requiring
a long term load[8]. In addition, due to the fact that the aliphatic ester linkage of PCL is
susceptible to hydrolysis, it is likely to undergo hydrolytic degradation [4, 5, 9].
Poly(lactic co glycolic acid) (PLGA) is a good material for preparing scaffolds because its material

Essay on Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Abstract
In this paper I intend to evaluate the voting habits of the American public. I will look at how race,
sex, education level, marital status, income level, current employment status, and age affects
whether or not people vote. I am also going to examine which political parties these groups have
historically voted for, why they vote for them, how this has changed over the years if it has
changed at all, and why it has changed.
I believe that from previous voting information you could fairly well predict the voters choices. I m
not saying you could foretell the outcome of upcoming elections, but you could figure out what to
expect given the state of current affairs.

This difference is made up of people who do not have United States citizenship. This is important
for the consideration of racial and ethnic differences in voting rates. Immigration has affected the
non citizen population of many groups. Only two percent of Non Hispanic whites are not citizens
and six percent of Blacks are not citizens. This is in stark contrast to the thirty eight percent of
Hispanics and thirty eight percent of Asians and Pacific Islanders who do not have citizenship.
This can be seen in the nineteen percent of voting age Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders who
voted compared to the thirty percent of the voting age citizen population who voted. This is
illustrated well in the following graph.
The overall percentage of 18 and over citizens who voted in the 2002 congressional election was at
the second lowest with the 1998 election being the lowest. There has been an increase in the
overall number of people eligible to vote, but a decrease in the percentage that register to vote and
the percentage of registered voters that do. I believe this comes from an increase in the
sensationalism of the presidential elections that over shadows the congressional elections. The
hype and prominence isn t present so it tends to slide by unnoticed. You can see this in the average
difference of thirteen percent more voters in presidential elections since 1964. The people who do
vote in these elections are the ones, I

Mirrormask Movie Analysis
Dave McKean is the mastermind of MirrorMask, MirrorMask is a fantasy/drama film that
released on September 30th, 2005. This movie was very different from a normal fairy tale, It
didn t have an evil stepmother, an absentee father and not really a prince charming at the end of
the film. This story is about a girl named Helena, she worked in a circus with her Mom and Dad
and they barely got by financially. Helena didn t want to work in the circus anymore; she wanted
to be normal like everybody else. Helena is also an incredible artist, her room was filled with
drawing which symbolize her emotional expression. When she falls asleep one day, she woke up
in a magical land that was filled with her drawings. After finding out they need to get the
mirrormask to save the kingdom, she embarks on an adventure to save the queen. Along the way,
she meets a guy, Valentine that accompanies alongside with her. Is it true love? This movie is
about growing up and realizing that even if you don t have much, you should still be grateful for
what you have. Helena was very ungrateful, she had two parents that were always there for her,
they didn t have a lot of money, but they had each other and Helena didn t seem to understand that.
Helena even got into a fight with her mother and wish death upon on herself, how mean it that?

My Experience With Doctor Visits
Twisted Something was wrong. Every fiber within me was screaming this but my mind refused
to accept it. The nausea, lack of energy, and the constant feeling of being tired were becoming
commonplace in my daily life. The thought of going to see a doctor was not something I was
looking forward to and had not been entertained frequently by me in the past. I had always taken
pride in being active and healthy. Unbeknownst to me, doctor visits would become a regular,
unpleasant, occurrence for me in the months to follow. It was a cool crisp fall morning in
October 2013. The air had the distinct aroma of the winter months that were pressing hard to
reveal themselves. A light breeze softly scattered the leaves gently across our front yard. It held
the promise of becoming a beautiful day, but not for me. Thinking back, I remember how I used
to love this time of year, but this year felt very different. My husband Darrell and I had finally
found the perfect house to rent after a year of searching. Even though we hated the process of
moving it was something we had looked forward to for such a long time. Darrell was up early
that morning packing, labeling, and busying himself with various other tasks required for such an
event. Normally this was something I would gladly have jumped right in and helped with.
However, I was not as energetic as he was. I had noticed lately I was lacking in the motivation

The Third Man
CARITA MARSILI
The Third Man (Reed, 1949) encompasses the notion that art is a derivative of pain, and is most
successful when the audience is overwhelmed with a state of lamenting sadness. Through variance
in narrative, form and tone, The Third Man reaches audiences critical understanding of art, and
challenges it in devious ways.
The style of the film takes on a classic film noir, depicting the rubbles of Vienna post war. This
world is reflexive of the theme that art is derived from pain. An American author, Holly Martins,
arrives to Vienna with hopes of meeting with his friend and finding literary inspiration, but
inevitably finds a world of despair. His friend has been mysteriously killed in a car crash and he
must find out the truth. With high key lighting, gorgeous depictions of Vienna post war, and an
excessive use of Dutch angles, a beautiful apprehension is strongly depicted throughout the film.
The film consequently uses its location as a representation for uneasiness. The final scene of the
film takes place on a hunt for Harry Lime in the sewers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through his unanimous connection with all the characters involved, Martins becomes our passive

withholding too much of a bias. He just makes the right decisions nearly every time, and keeps
trying to do the right thing although it doesn t always work out for him. He glides us throughout
the story, and trips over the traps to set the right plot points but he isn t interesting. What is

Section 306 states company officers cannot trade during pension fund blackout periods. Section
402 prohibits insider loans. Section 403 mandates electronic filing of insider transactions. In
other words, if the CFO decides he should sell his stock, the immediacy of the sale would have to

Descriptive Essay About The Woods
The Woods There s been stories floating around regarding the forest lining the edge of town. Some
folk around here think that there s animals and creatures beyond imagination past the treeline,
others think that s a bunch of bologna. One night, about twenty years ago, a young boy ran away
from home and fled to the forest. Forty eight hours later the police declare him missing, and for
three weeks police, detectives, and civilian volunteers were searching for the boy. And so the weeks
turned into months, and months turned into years, but the little boy never came home. Dude, what
are you doing? Zach yelped, scurrying after his friend, tripping on branches. Earlier that evening,
Carson, Zach, and a few other of their friends were hanging out at the annual Halloween bonfire.
They were heading home when one of the boys decided they should take a shortcut, taking an
alleyway behind the grocery store that cuts to a bumpy run down street littered with trash and
cracks. Coincidentally, this winding road cuts a corner through the forest, emerging on the other
side of town. Wandering along the pothole laden street, the wind starts howling, and the group hears
a strange noise from amongst the trees, snapping branches and crunching leaves. Stopping, the boys
peer in every direction, but notice nothing except the trees in the pale moonlight. Did you hear that?

this curiosity and to determine, through textual and visual analyses, if the 1986 television series
also carries a Confucian message, or whether it was solely produced for entertainment purposes.
This leads to the following research question:
How does the 1986 television series Journey to the West convey the novel s original Confucian
message, and what does this suggest for its production purposes?
I argue that authors and producers often attempt to impose their own set of cultural and political
ideologies on its audience through a certain depiction of right and wrong. In this manner, works of
fiction might influence, perhaps even alter, the ideologies of the audience.[3] Accordingly,
analyzing the depiction of ideologies in media content can serve as a basis for further research on if
and how producers intend to influence their audience.
This particular case of Confucianism in the 1986 Journey to the West television series is especially
interesting, due to China s socio political setting of that time. The influence of the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) on media content[4] combined with its usage of Confucianism to secure
its own right to rule[5] make the Journey to the West television series the perfect medium to
promote Confucianism to the masses. The enormous popularity of Journey to the West

The Most Tech Savvy Person
The next day, oddly enough, Leorio finds himself back at the library, sipping coffee out of a
paper cup with a bored expression on his face. For all last night s build up, the first official day
of their partnership couldn t possibly have begun more mundanely; honestly, Leorio had no idea
what he was expecting, but it wasn t this. He tried not to fidget as he peeked over Kurapika s
shoulder, but watching his friend use a computer was actually kind of painful. Kurapika typed fast

All done? Leorio asked, immediately perking up. Kurapika nodded. Good news is, I managed to
get us on the first flight out to Keystone City. It s economy class, so it won t be very comfortable,
but... Shweet! Leorio jump shot his empty coffee cup into the nearest wastebasket (earning the
disapproving glance of a passing librarian) and scooped his lacquered briefcase off the floor.
Then he paused, blinking, Kurapika s words slowly sinking in. Wait, what s the bad news?
Kurapika smiled ruefully. Our flight doesn t leave til five. Leorio blinked. But...but that s...
Quite a few hours from now, yes, Kurapika sighed. On such short notice, it can t really be helped.
Barring any mishaps, we should be in Keystone by tomorrow afternoon. Leorio checked his
watch, suddenly dubious; it was a little past seven in the morning an ungodly hour, in his
opinion. No one should ever have to get up before nine. Well, shit. That pretty much leaves us the
whole day... he said slowly, oddly intrigued by the idea. Leorio honestly had no clue what Gon
and Killua got up to for the literally hours on end they spent alone; even now, he couldn t imagine
hanging out with one person so much. Maybe it was because they were so young, flush with the
wonder of their first real friendship? Yeah, that must be it Gon and Killua were busy bonding.
Maybe he and Kurapika could do some that cool bonding stuff too...or whatever. Stop kidding

glass fibers which are commonly used in commercial industries. They are E glass and S glass; the
E glass has the lowest of all commercially available reinforcing fibers which makes the reason for
its widespread use in the industry. The S glass was originally developed for the aircraft components
and missile casting; as they have the highest tensile strengthof all fibers in use [29].
3.Carbon fibre reinforced polypropylene
When carbon fibers are reinforced with polypropylene composites they provide high impact
resistance and rigidity, which makes it favorable to use in automotive and structural engineering. In
the recent years more functions such as easy paintability, low coefficient of thermal expansion and
scratch resistant property has been a great concern. Automotive parts such as bumpers faces are

However the strength and stability of polymer fiber interface determines the final properties of the
polypropylene composites. The main advantages of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene
composites are high tensile strength, low cost, high chemical resistance and good insulating
properties. The disadvantages are high specific gravity, low tensile modulus, high hardness and low
fatigue resistance. One of the methods used to improve final properties of the glass fiber
polypropylene is by matrix modification. In this method, polar functional groups are introduced to
polypropylene chains so as to improve compatibility with polar strengthening and achieve a
homogenous dispersion of fillers, reinforcements and additives [37]. Apart from automotive
bumpers glass reinforced polymers are used for structure and function parts such as washing
machine parts, axial fan blades of industries, irrigation equipment parts, skeleton of instrument panel

Friendship In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
Friends for life can be hard to find, but with a good reason. Hermann Hesse addresses friendship in

Daniel
The book of Daniel is one of the most highly criticized books of the bible, yet the messages in
Daniel are well defined and distinct. Authored by the Prophet Daniel, the key theme of Daniel is
faithfulness and the book of Daniel clearly calls all of God s people to understand God s
sovereignty over the nations of the world and to openly acknowledge him and faithfully represent
and follow him in the world. Other distinct meanings in Daniel include symbolic prophesies and
the return of Christ, persecution of God s people, and the emphasis that God s people can still
thrive in times of difficulty or captivity as long as they remain faithful and believe in God. Daniel

The writings in Daniel record his experiences as well as the records and events during the
Babylonian captivity from 560 to 535 B.C. The purpose of Daniel can be seen as two fold with a
focus on the sovereignty of God and faithfulness of the people and also the prophetic information
that is relayed through Daniel s visons in the later chapters. The major events of Daniel begin
with Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah being taken into Babylonian captivity. Hananiah,
Mishael, and Azariah were given the Babylonian names of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
and survived the fiery furnace to demonstrate their faithfulness to God by refusing to bow to the
statute of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel becomes well known for his wisdom and
interprets Nebuchadnezzar s dream regarding the giant statue (Daniel 2) that represents gold in
the Babylonian empire, silver in the Medo Persian empire, bronze in the Greek empire, Iron in
the Roman empire, and the significance of iron and clay at the feet and the rock that represents
the Kingdom of God. In Chapter five Nebuchadnezzar is killed for not humbling before God. In
Daniel Chapter six, Daniel is thrown into the Lion s Den for praying to God and is protected by the

The Main Achievements of Disraeli s Ministry 1874 1880 in the Field of Social Reform When
Disraeli was attempting to get back into government in 1873 and 1874, he made a number of
speeches to try to win voters. It is said that the speeches he made, especially the ones he made in
Manchester and at Crystal Palace, were very influential, and vital for the Conservatives recovery,
and eventual victory in 1874. The main target which the Conservative government would be
aiming for in the field of social reform, he said, would be to elevate the condition of the people . If
this was his real aim, we must look at the reforms his ministry introduced, and question whether

Overall, this was an Act which was exceedingly beneficial for the working man, and if applied in
his area, would improve his lifestyle a great deal. A different problem for the working class at
the time, and therefore a problem for Disraeli when trying to keep their votes, was the long
working hours the working people of England were having to endure. Although it did not satisfy
the demands of the Nine Hours Movement, a pressure group largely supported in Yorkshire and
Lancashire, the Factory Act of 1874 did reduce the number of maximum working hours in a day
to ten hours allowing a half day on Saturday. The Factories and Workshops Act of 1878 further
reinforced previous factory legislation and also applied to workshops, where only a dozen or so
people worked. For the Conservatives, this was a good achievement, and it pleased the working
class who literally sung the praise of Cross, the man who had brought in the Acts. This strongly
contributed to keeping the support of the working class on the Conservatives side, which was of
vital importance in a time when the working men made up a large proportion of the electorate. The
restrictions Gladstone s government had placed on Trade Unions had frustrated the working people
greatly. Even the Liberals had promised to change, the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1871 if
they got back into power.

The Family Reunion By Jeredith Merrin
Estranged
The Family Reunion by Jeredith Merrin is a very jaunty poem. The author invites her readers into
the setting of her own family reunion. She relates to her personal situation and how one seems to
forget about their history. With the Unites States having a fifty percent divorce rate it make this
poem very real and relatable. Family Reunion is a poem about a modern day family that initially
sets a calm atmosphere; but quickly changes as she creates the reality of today s normal occurrence
that divorce has set in the world.
Merrin creates a theme of divorce and separation in each of the poems four lined stanzas. She
begins with the divorced mother and her divorcing/ daughter (1 2) setting the theme for the ongoing
element of separation.

in his house. He thought it was an intruder. Oscar then reached under his bed and grabbed
his 9mm. Then walked on his nubs to where he heard the noise. He told his girlfriend in a

Another witnessed Johan stander, manger of the estate where Pistorius lived,
testified that Pistorius called saying please please come to my house. I shot Reeva, I
thought she was an intruder. Please please come quick . He went with his daughter and
found Pistorius coming down the stairs with Steenkamp in his arms. Standard testified,
he was broken, he was screaming, he was crying, he was praying, I saw the truth that
morning. This was raw emotion that could not be faked.
It is evident Pistorius loved and cared deeply for his girlfriend even though the
prosecution brought into evidence of arguments. This happens in all relationships. His
testimony of not having his prosthetic legs on and shooting threw the bathroom door was
verified by the investigators. There were also recorded evidence of break ins around the
neighborhoods. Also testimony from witnesses at the scene showed his shock and
remorse over a horrible mistake.
After all the evidence that we have found after studying this case it would be
fairly hard to convict him of murder. Accidents happen everyday around the world.

The Specialization Of Domesticated Animals
1 In this context, the word domestication mean the way crops are changed by the hand of Humans.
2. Food sources, especially cereal crops, were easy to domesticate due to the conveniences of

Concussions in Football
Concussions in football A traumatic brain injury (TBI) also known as a concussion is a serious
health problem to athletes, especially to football players. The brain controls the body and gives a
person personality and defines every aspect of his or her life. A brain injury can disrupt a person s
life in an instance and like broken bones or bruises; TBI can limit or prevent normal body
functions. A braininjury, unlike common injuries can damage mental abilities to include memory
and speech. There are only two classifications in TBI; mild and severe. Mild TBI is classified as
loss of consciousness and or confusion and disorientation for less than thirty minutes. Severe TBI is
thirty or more minutes and with memory loss. A person... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key to the concussive blows in football is the result of the head down position, which increases
the mass and momentum of the striking player and amplifying the energy transfer to the struck
player. Falls to the ground resulted in the lowest impacts because when the back of the helmet hits
the ground, the closing energy is only coming from the one player. The biomechanical analysis has
resulted in stricter enforcement of rules against head down and head to head tackling techniques.
The frontal area is the brain s largest lobe and the most common area of damage in football players.
The frontal lobes are where reason and thinking takes place. It is responsible for voluntary
movement, attention span, and judgment. The frontal lobe regulates mood and emotion. Using
special computers that measure impacts and damage to football players; researchers reveal there is
an increase in strain and head displacement after the initial impact from the frontal cortex and
temporal lobes to the mid brain. Twenty milliseconds after the initial impact, the strain had moved
to the mid brain and increased to four times the displacement and correlated with the occurrence of
unconsciousness. Strain and head displacement are connected to memory, cognition problems, and
irrational behavior. The mid brain controls vision, hearing, breathing, reflexes, and swallowing. The
thalamus and hippocampus are located in the mid brain. It is essential to reduce swelling in

Thesis Statement For Supernovas Essay
Supernovas Ebaad Usmani P1 Thesis Statement: Supernovas are big explosions of light that
occur when a star has a lot of fuel inside it which causes the star to explode. Supernovas are when
stars die, they turn into brilliant points of light and explode. Supernovas are considered the
largest explosion to take place in space, and in galaxies, they usually appear in other galaxies, but it
s really hard to find one in our own galaxybecause there is always dust that blocks our way, so it
can be tough to find a supernova. There are 2 ways a supernova can occur. The first way a
supernova can happen is when a stargathers up a lot of matter from nearby stars until the star has a
nuclear reaction and explodes which causes a supernova. The second way a supernova can occur is
when a star is much bigger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One type of supernova has shown scientists that according to the solar system, there are other

explodes, there are always random scraps of thing flying everywhere, so when a star explodes, it
does the same and it shoots elements and debris everywhere around space. Most of the elements
are the core of stars, these elements form to create new stars, and small planets in the solar
system and in many other solar systems. Scientists look for supernovas by using advanced
telescopes, and items. Some of these telescopes are used to look at other explosions in space

The Importance Of Social Class In The Canterbury Tales
What importance does social class have over population as a whole, has it s importance changed
and if it hasn t will it ever change? While reading The Canterbury Tales, many of these questions
were answered before anyones could even create them through the stories of the Prioress, Parsons
and the Knight. For instance, in modern day we place; the rich, famous, and politics in the upper
class. But has that changed over time and do you think that it ever will? Many do believe that
social classdeficiency has changed and that it will not cease to change. Now, whether it s changes
for the better or worse, that s for individuals to decide. In the Middle Ages, social classesconsisted
of about five groups; Royalty, Nobility, Church, Merchants, and Peasantry. As we learned during
the reading, nobility and clergy were for the most part, interchangeable. It becomes evident that
The Canterbury Tales were written about these five groups with stories and lives from each.
Interaction between the social classes wasn t unheard of, but it wasn t a generous interact, if that
makes sense. If and higher class encountered a lower class, then the lower class was almost
always treated as a lower class member. Social classes have changed, but how and why? For
instance, while reading, the Prioress is constantly being shown with an attitude of a higher class
member, That in her cup no single speck was seen of grease, because she drank so neat. (Chaucer
1861) In this it is evident that people

  • 2. The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student... There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests notwithstanding, they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities and needs. Having worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of Paramus (Bergen Tech), a vocational technical high schoolwith a predominantly special needs population, I find it unfortunate that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in recent years been directed to focus on cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive measures that could provide insight into student emotional health and personality. For school staff endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to adulthood and guide them toward brighter more fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be used to help clarify needs, determine the severity of problems, make predictions about future behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations. It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Harlem Vs Post-Modernism Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness said by Alejandro Jodorowski. Writing between the Harlem Renaissance and Post Modernism is very similar in that they both address social issues, from racism to self harm. The Harlem Renaissance poems, The Negro Speaks of Rivers and I, Too can be compared to the Post Modernist poems Cut and Manhattan Buddha through the use of figurative language and subject material. In both stories Cut by Sylvia Plath and I, Too by Langston Hughes, they address serious issues. In Cut a girl finds joy in cutting her thumb instead of an onion (Plath 2). Self harm is a serious issue in today s society. Plath does a good job at portraying the way the girl enjoys inflicting pain on herself and admires the cut. Another serious issue that has been around for centuries is racism. In the story I, Too , Hughes displays the feelings the man gets when he is left out at dinners when they have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Negro Speak of Rivers , the man is describing the things he has seen and the way his soul has grown deep like the rivers (Hughes 3). Hughes uses pathos in this story to relate to the reader and make it mean something to them in the way that the man is so appreciative of simple things such as rivers. He bathed in rivers and lived next to them and still appreciates what they have done for him. This is similar in Manhattan Buddha when a man is torn between jumping from a building or burning in it. Even with a choice of how to pass he sees it all and smiles (Smith Soto 8). This relates to pathos to make the readers think about how content and at peace he was with what was happening. It also relates back to the reader s emotions relating to the events at 9/11. Both Hughes and Smith Soto tap into the reader s emotions by their use of figurative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Acquiring such professional knowledge, however, gives teachers additional tools for increasing learning for all students, and it presents enormous opportunities for professional growth. This chapter is designed to help you start the journey toward meeting the challenges and capitalizing on the opportunities of the diverse classroom. Cultural Diversity What kinds of clothes do you wear? What types of music do you like? What foods do you eat? Your clothing, music, and foods, along with other factors such as religion, family structure, and values, are all part of your culture. Culture refers to the attitudes, values, customs, and behavior patterns that characterize a social group (Banks, 2001). The enormous impact of culture is illustrated by its influence on all aspects of our lives (Gollnick Chinn, 2002). An activity as basic as eating is one example: в—Џ Culture not only helps to determine what foods we eat, but it also influences when we eat (for example, one, three, or five meals and at what time of the day); with whom we eat (that is, only with the same sex, with children or with the extended family); how we eat (for example, at a table or on the floor; with chopsticks, silverware, or the fingers); and the ritual of eating (for example, in ... • 5. Andrew Jackson Was A Leader Introduction Andrew Jackson was a leader. He was a leader on the battlefront, a leader in office and a leader in his beliefs. Jackson had certain fundamental beliefs that shaped him as a person and would be the foundation for which he would rule the country. He stood by those beliefs and fought for what he saw as the right way. During his life, Jackson would fight many battles and tackle many fundamental opponents. Here, the topic brings into focus one area of importance to Jackson, the national bank, and individual states rights, as well as some the opponents he faced during only a few of the many issues he would take on during his lifetime. A few years into his term, Jackson set out to shut down the Second Bank of the United States.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biddle then stated that the Bank would spear head one of Jackson s personal causes by intending to pay off the National debt, in Jackson s honor. The offer came with the condition that the Bank would be granted a charter extension. Biddle also began to offer loans and financial favors to Jackson s friends and backers, proving to Jacksons that his initial thoughts were correct in thinking that the Bank could play to the political policies and involve themselves in political processes. (Warshauer) Biddle took Jackson by surprise when he asked for a re charter four years before their current charter expired, which also happened to be an election year. Biddle played on the belief that he could force Jackson s hand out of fear from causing an election issue in the upcoming voting. Biddle was incorrect. (Warshauer) The re charter bill went on the Senate floor in March and was graciously met with much support. Jackson issued a veto that would try not to anger the public and in return, not cost the Democrats support in the fall election. Jackson s veto played off of the stockholding policies of foreign citizens and the questions the Bank s monopoly, which brought up questions about the Constitutional laws that it might infringe upon. Jackson argued that its favoritism went against the role of a government that should stand for honesty, equality, and fairness. Congress tried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Classical Conditioning Vs. Operant Conditioning Essay 1. a) Define Classical Conditioning and Behaviorism. b) Identify the two major characteristics that distinguish classical conditioning from operant conditioning. Classical Conditioning is a type of learning process of an individual when they come in contact with certain stimuli. According to Pavlov, a Russian psychologist, he developed several experiments on learning and he discovered that classical condition is the basic form of learning for an individual. However, according to Pavlov, behaviorism is the view that psychology should be the main objective science that studies behavior without including mental processes of an individual in the investigation. Behaviorism is more about the person s behavior and how they were influenced to act a certain why, including their surroundings. Thus, from this learning process many behaviorist believes that the basic laws of learning are similar for all different species, including humans. Furthermore, the two major characteristics that distinguish classical conditioning from operant conditioning is that in classical conditioning, an unconditioned response is an event that happens naturally in response to some stimuli such as salivation. Another characteristic is an unconditioned stimuli, which is a process where an individual naturally discovers something without learning the process and reacts to the unlearned response, For instance, when someone put food in there mouth this causes salivation. A conditioned stimuli in classical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Timeless Literature Project Earlier this year I was assigned the Timeless Literature Project. I went straight to my mom and asked what book she recommended I read, she told me to read Lord of the Flies. Now that I ve read it and spoken to her many times about the book, I d like to share some thoughts that we generated in our final discussion. We spoke about how the Cold War was a major influence in my mom s life and how she thought that the book was set in that time. I talked about how I could relate Ralph s losing of innocence. We both agreed that this story can be applied in areas of today s culture such as my mother s pre school class, the turmoil in the middle east, or even Langston Hughes Middle School. The overarching question we had was if all of this anarchy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I greatly enjoyed reading the book and got a lot out of it. For one thing, recreations of this story can be seen everywhere in society and in my life, I don t think I ll see the world through the same lens. I thought that Ralph was a very relatable character, in that he only asked the boys to do one thing (keep the fire going) and they wouldn t listen. I find myself in that situation quite often. Lord of the Flies was a relatively short and fast paced book, so my mom hit that right on the nose, but the recommendation was a little bit advanced for my reading level. Nevertheless, I could still understand the main points and themes. I deem this book timeless because of it s unique ability to explain the dark desires of human nature in a way that applies to everyone. My discussion with my mom was awkward at first, but as we got into the groove of things I learned a lot about her and gained a whole new perspective on the book. I recommend this book to a peer with a greater reading ability than me, and a better grasp on the themes of life because having that deeper understanding of literature and human existence would only enhance the reader s experience with Lord of the ... She is the author to several books and over 200 articles about galaxies and their motions.3 Famous For She is most notable for providing a great deal of compelling evidence, alongside Dr. Kent Ford, that proved Fritz Zwicky s Theory of the existence of Dark Matter.2 Zwicky stated that individual galaxies within the Coma Cluster were moving so fast that if they were only held by the gravity of its visible mass that it would escape. Since he found no evidence of the cluster falling apart he concluded that there must be something else holding it together that was nearly 10 times that of visible matter, he called this Dark matter.2 While working with Dr. Ford, they began analyzing the light coming from stars in spiral galaxies. They used what is called the Doppler effect which states the wavelength shift is proportional to the speed of the light source relative to the observer. This uses the wavelength of light in how it is approaching or moving away from the observer. When a light source moves away from you it presents a red color and when it comes toward you it presents a blue light. After measuring several stars in different parts ... • 9. Court Terminology In the United States, we have laws that require punishment for people that conduct themselves in a negative social behavior. Understanding how our court systems utilize this legislation to ensure that negative social behavior can be corrected. When looking at how these laws are placed into use in our criminal justicesystems, one must understand the difference between the court terminology of law on the books and law in action (Neubauer and Fradella, 2009). When studying the language of law on the books, a person must understand that this means the letter of the law (Neubauer and Fradella, 2009). This case was one that was charged with many emotional aspects involved due to the number of victims, and the amount of violent that took place in this house of worship. Dylann Roff maintained his innocents and forced the case to trial (Martinez, 2015). When looking at the other element of the functionality of law in our court systems, the law in action, one must understand that this is literary the way the actors in the courtroom interpret the letter of the law. These players in the court room are the judges, lawyers, the defendant, and victims (Neubauer and Fradella, 2009). The law in action can be very confusing to the average person because of the many different interpolations that can come from so many different actors in the court system. In the case of Roff, the interpterion of the rule of law as the term hate crime is an enhancement factor in the sentencing stage of a murder conviction (The Guardian, 2017). The judge and jury heard the arguments of both the prosecution and the defense, Mr. Roff, on why this murder conviction meet or did not meet the status of a hate crime. In the book Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel takes us on a roller coaster of emotions beautifully inscribed by the many themes in this book. Theme is defined as the main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work. Throughout the book we are encountered with examples of violence or abuse that leads to the strengthening of the character Tita. All traits that Tita suffered at one point or another in the book for example, the case of insomnia Tita developed and so she worked on the bedspread and wept furiously, weeping and working until dawn... for as long as she lived (Esquivel 19). As is show by both author and trauma expert Tita was so far pushed by her mother that she ended up breaking. Furthermore, Esquivel builds up Tita and Pedro s characters through the theme of true love by denying that love to them. As an example, this is displayed to the reader almost immediately in the book when Pedro comes to ask Mama Elena for the hand of Tita in marriage but is immediately denied that request by Mama Elena. Pedro is then forced to accept her counter offer of marrying her sister Rosaura When you re told there s no way you can marry the woman you love and your only hope of being near her is to marry her sister, wouldn t you do the same (15). This place had a family living on it who were very hard workers, but they also were very poor. There was a middle aged man and women living on this farm. Along with them they had a son. The father and his son would get up just before the crack of dawn and would work until lunch and then keep working until dusk. For all this hard work they made very little money. The familycould not afford an education for their son, so the motherhome schooled the boy at night so he could work in the fields during the day. The boy and his father would go into town every week to get much needed groceries for themselves. They would get a lift from a local friend who knew the family very well. When they went into town, which only had a population of about 250 people, the boy would look in amazement at how many people could fit into one place. The one thing that the boy took notice to were the posters placed all over the place. Here, there, everywhere, were posters of the famous Bolivian Formula Onedriver who had grown up with nothing and is now living and racing on a grand scale, and is leading for the Formula One drivers championship. The poster next to him said Karting Jr. race league! First race next Saturday! $30 dollars to join. The boy asked his father if he could join but his father said, No, we can t afford it. All educated guesses even preschoolers can notice. The discovery of Tiktaalik has given many scientists something to think about. The first being that humans may after all be closely related to fish. When first hearing this theory, for anyone it is hard to believe. Humans have fingers and fishes have fins! They have gills and we have lungs! Many things point towards the fact that humans have nothing in common with fish until one looks at the bone structure of each and how exceptionally similar they are. The reason for the similarity is because both species share a common ancestor. All animals with limbs have a common design. If a batwing were to be formed from a person s hand, make the fingers extremely long; a horse elongates the middle fingers and reduce and lose the outer ones; frogs elongate the bones of the leg and fuse several of them together. All in all, despite radical changes in what limbs do and what they look like, this underlying blueprint is always present. Before Tiktaalik was named, Fred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This painting is standing approximately twelve feet tall. It was created in the fourteenth century between the early years of 1305 1306 in the South Wall of Scrovegni, Chapel in Padua, Italy. The materials Giotto di Bondone used were called fresco painting. With these colors the shadows are brought out to make this painting look natural. As I mentioned before the setting is a bit dark and Bondone uses a certain balance between what the people are wearing and the outside frame. The most important element I seen was the lines. When Judas is kissing Jesus you can see the torches creating a certain line focusing on their faces of this kiss. The second thing I notice is the space in this painting. • 18. The Major Problem With Nhst Essay The Major Problem With NHST Kirk (1996) had major criticisms of NHST. According to Kirk, the procedure does not tell researchers what they want to know: In scientific inference, what we want to know is the probability that the null hypothesis (H0) is true given that we have obtained a set of data (D); that is, p(H0|D). What null hypothesis significance testing tells us is the probability of obtaining these data or more extreme data if the null hypothesis is true, p(D|H0). (p. 747) Kirk (1996) went on to explain that NHST was a trivial exercise because the null hypothesis is always false, and rejecting it is merely a matter of having enough power. In this study, we investigated how textbooks treated this major problem of NHST. Current best practice in this area is open to debate (e.g., see Harlow, Mulaik, Steiger, 1997). A number of prominent researchers advocate the use of confidence intervals in place of NHST on grounds that, for the most part, confidence intervals provide more information than a significance test and still include information necessary to determine statistical significance (Cohen, Gliner, Leech, Morgan 85 1994; Kirk, 1996). For those who advocate the use of NHST, the null hypothesis of no difference (nil hypothesis) should be replaced by a null hypothesis specifying some nonzero value based on previous research (Cohen, 1994; Mulaik, Raju, Harshman, 1997). Thus, there would be less chance that a trivial difference between intervention and control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An anonymous author wrote, God gave mankind freedom by nature and made every man equal to his neighbor. African Americans have an extraordinary past that includes the lifestyles before slavery, during slavery, and the beginning of the abolition and petitions which lead to their freedom. The new independence talks about having freedom and unfree labor but that s not the case for African Americans. The abolition and emancipation was a slow process because veterans of the war were promised 300 acres of land and a slave. This made the process difficult for whites to accept the fact that if the slaves were granted freedom, they would possibly have their land taken as well as their slaves. Another possible cause for the slow start of slave freedom is that all the founding fathers owned slaves which then made people think that it s okay to own slaves as well. Slaves began to run away from their masters to British lines and would try to pass as freeborn. General Henry Clinton offered sanctuary to any slave that escaped to British lines. Soon, Northern states and the upper parts of the south began emancipation of slaves. Free communities started to emerge which led to families, schools, churches and leaders to grow and live. Finally, African Americans had their freedom back and began to start a community. Women before the American Revolution were viewed as weak, less important and not as intelligent as men. The rights and freedom of women were nonexistent; women couldn t vote, own property, sign contracts and/or wills or divorce their husbands. The man of the family had total power and authority over their wives and children. The common role for a woman was to cook, clean, sew, take care of the family garden and care ... This has garnered the response of media groups such as Fox, who are against the war on Christmas. Plastic Pollution Case Study There are a variety of stakeholders involved in the worldwide issue of plastic pollution including local, national and international governments, non government organizations (NGO s) and corporations with all these stakeholders having a different range of perspectives and solutions on the matter it is increasingly difficult to gain consensus on how to jointly address this global problem. (reference). The Department of the Environment and Heritage NSW, Local GovernmentNSW (Local), The Government of NSW (State), The Australian Government (National) and The United Nations (International) seem to underestimate the effects of plastic and general marine pollution. Most government agencies seem to be more worried with economic issues of the clean up and enforcement costs. Resources like the fishing and tourism industries, public opinion, government policies, laws and legislations, future elections, risks of high unemployment rates if major corporations are taxed excessively or policies such as Extended Producer Responsibility are enforced may affect the economy and the health of the population and the environment. On the other hand, Non government stake holders such as Boomerang Alliance (Local), Clean up Australia (National) and Greenpeace (International) are trying to raise awareness for the issue and educating the public on the long term negative effects of plastic marine pollution and preserving the health of the environment and oceans for the future generations to come (Plastic Pollution Coalition, 2017). A variety of these nongovernment organisations are raising funds to help with cleaning up the environment and putting pressure on the governments locally, nationally and internationally to recognise the global impact of plastic marine pollution and take responsibility for the damage this pollution causes and help with the clean up and maintenance of the marine environment to keep the problem under control. However, up until the eighties, scientists were still baffled by a chicken and egg debate. All modern organisms require nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to build proteins (Leslie 99), and the proteins are needed in the formation of nucleic acids. The mystery of which came first: RNAor DNAwas solved when a new property of RNA was discovered. There are some RNAs that are capable of catalyzing chemical reactions. This means that RNA is capable of storing genetic information, as well as cause chemical reactions vital for self replication. This breakthrough tentatively solved the mystery of which came first: RNA or DNA.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analyzing ATP together with other molecular fossils, scientists have discovered that catalytic RNA and molecular fossils are closely related to nucleic acids; suggesting that RNA was crucial to earth s first life. This observations support the RNA world hypothesis, that earth s first life used RNA for basic cellular process rather than the mix of proteins, DNA and RNA used by current organisms (Lazcano et al. 283). Genetics with inheritable evolutionary selection could have come into place with RNA servicing as a self replicator, hence uniting the properties a replicator capable of inheriting information at the same time having the ability to evolve (Leslie 100). Explaining how RNA molecules came about on the basis of prebiotic chemistry is challenging but possible (Choudhary 655). Therefore, experiments have illustrated that RNA can form self replicating molecules, and RNA has been applied successfully in directed evolution experiments (Biebricher et al., 630). In addition, there are numerous potential traces of RNA world present in modern cells. Several viruses use RNA as their genetic material; this proves that RNA is capable of carrying genetic information. • 34. My Experience With Doctor Visits Twisted Something was wrong. Every fiber within me was screaming this but my mind refused to accept it. The nausea, lack of energy, and the constant feeling of being tired were becoming commonplace in my daily life. The thought of going to see a doctor was not something I was looking forward to and had not been entertained frequently by me in the past. I had always taken pride in being active and healthy. Unbeknownst to me, doctor visits would become a regular, unpleasant, occurrence for me in the months to follow. It was a cool crisp fall morning in October 2013. The air had the distinct aroma of the winter months that were pressing hard to reveal themselves. A light breeze softly scattered the leaves gently across our front yard. It held the promise of becoming a beautiful day, but not for me. Thinking back, I remember how I used to love this time of year, but this year felt very different. My husband Darrell and I had finally found the perfect house to rent after a year of searching. Even though we hated the process of moving it was something we had looked forward to for such a long time. Darrell was up early that morning packing, labeling, and busying himself with various other tasks required for such an event. Normally this was something I would gladly have jumped right in and helped with. However, I was not as energetic as he was. • 35. The Third Man CARITA MARSILI The Third Man (Reed, 1949) encompasses the notion that art is a derivative of pain, and is most successful when the audience is overwhelmed with a state of lamenting sadness. Through variance in narrative, form and tone, The Third Man reaches audiences critical understanding of art, and challenges it in devious ways. The style of the film takes on a classic film noir, depicting the rubbles of Vienna post war. This world is reflexive of the theme that art is derived from pain. An American author, Holly Martins, arrives to Vienna with hopes of meeting with his friend and finding literary inspiration, but inevitably finds a world of despair. His friend has been mysteriously killed in a car crash and he must find out the truth. With high key lighting, gorgeous depictions of Vienna post war, and an excessive use of Dutch angles, a beautiful apprehension is strongly depicted throughout the film. The film consequently uses its location as a representation for uneasiness. The final scene of the film takes place on a hunt for Harry Lime in the sewers of ... Forty eight hours later the police declare him missing, and for three weeks police, detectives, and civilian volunteers were searching for the boy. And so the weeks turned into months, and months turned into years, but the little boy never came home. Dude, what are you doing? Zach yelped, scurrying after his friend, tripping on branches. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since, I wondered whether this impression was correct. The goal of this thesis is to satisfy this curiosity and to determine, through textual and visual analyses, if the 1986 television series also carries a Confucian message, or whether it was solely produced for entertainment purposes. This leads to the following research question: How does the 1986 television series Journey to the West convey the novel s original Confucian message, and what does this suggest for its production purposes? I argue that authors and producers often attempt to impose their own set of cultural and political ideologies on its audience through a certain depiction of right and wrong. In this manner, works of fiction might influence, perhaps even alter, the ideologies of the audience.[3] Accordingly, analyzing the depiction of ideologies in media content can serve as a basis for further research on if and how producers intend to influence their audience. This particular case of Confucianism in the 1986 Journey to the West television series is especially interesting, due to China s socio political setting of that time. The influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on media content[4] combined with its usage of Confucianism to secure its own right to rule[5] make the Journey to the West television series the perfect medium to promote Confucianism to the masses. The Factories and Workshops Act of 1878 further reinforced previous factory legislation and also applied to workshops, where only a dozen or so people worked. The brain controls the body and gives a person personality and defines every aspect of his or her life. A brain injury can disrupt a person s life in an instance and like broken bones or bruises; TBI can limit or prevent normal body functions. A braininjury, unlike common injuries can damage mental abilities to include memory and speech. There are only two classifications in TBI; mild and severe. Mild TBI is classified as loss of consciousness and or confusion and disorientation for less than thirty minutes. Severe TBI is thirty or more minutes and with memory loss. A person... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The key to the concussive blows in football is the result of the head down position, which increases the mass and momentum of the striking player and amplifying the energy transfer to the struck player. Falls to the ground resulted in the lowest impacts because when the back of the helmet hits the ground, the closing energy is only coming from the one player. The biomechanical analysis has resulted in stricter enforcement of rules against head down and head to head tackling techniques. The frontal area is the brain s largest lobe and the most common area of damage in football players. The frontal lobes are where reason and thinking takes place. It is responsible for voluntary movement, attention span, and judgment. The frontal lobe regulates mood and emotion. Using special computers that measure impacts and damage to football players; researchers reveal there is an increase in strain and head displacement after the initial impact from the frontal cortex and temporal lobes to the mid brain. Twenty milliseconds after the initial impact, the strain had moved to the mid brain and increased to four times the displacement and correlated with the occurrence of unconsciousness. Strain and head displacement are connected to memory, cognition problems, and irrational behavior. The mid brain controls vision, hearing, breathing, reflexes, and swallowing. The thalamus and hippocampus are located in the mid brain. It is essential to reduce swelling in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Thesis Statement For Supernovas Essay Supernovas Ebaad Usmani P1 Thesis Statement: Supernovas are big explosions of light that occur when a star has a lot of fuel inside it which causes the star to explode. Supernovas are when stars die, they turn into brilliant points of light and explode. Supernovas are considered the largest explosion to take place in space, and in galaxies, they usually appear in other galaxies, but it s really hard to find one in our own galaxybecause there is always dust that blocks our way, so it can be tough to find a supernova. There are 2 ways a supernova can occur. The first way a supernova can happen is when a stargathers up a lot of matter from nearby stars until the star has a nuclear reaction and explodes which causes a supernova. The second way a supernova can occur is when a star is much bigger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One type of supernova has shown scientists that according to the solar system, there are other universes out there, we just don t know what they look like. According to scientists, supernovae play a key role in distributing elements throughout the universe. Ordinarily when something explodes, there are always random scraps of thing flying everywhere, so when a star explodes, it does the same and it shoots elements and debris everywhere around space. Most of the elements are the core of stars, these elements form to create new stars, and small planets in the solar system and in many other solar systems. Scientists look for supernovas by using advanced telescopes, and items. Some of these telescopes are used to look at other explosions in space beside supernovas. Others are used to study x rays and gamma rays. Either way, they are all used to study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Importance Of Social Class In The Canterbury Tales What importance does social class have over population as a whole, has it s importance changed and if it hasn t will it ever change? While reading The Canterbury Tales, many of these questions were answered before anyones could even create them through the stories of the Prioress, Parsons and the Knight. For instance, in modern day we place; the rich, famous, and politics in the upper class. But has that changed over time and do you think that it ever will? Many do believe that social classdeficiency has changed and that it will not cease to change. Now, whether it s changes for the better or worse, that s for individuals to decide. In the Middle Ages, social classesconsisted of about five groups; Royalty, Nobility, Church, Merchants, and Peasantry. As we learned during the reading, nobility and clergy were for the most part, interchangeable. It becomes evident that The Canterbury Tales were written about these five groups with stories and lives from each. Interaction between the social classes wasn t unheard of, but it wasn t a generous interact, if that makes sense. If and higher class encountered a lower class, then the lower class was almost always treated as a lower class member. Social classes have changed, but how and why? For instance, while reading, the Prioress is constantly being shown with an attitude of a higher class member, That in her cup no single speck was seen of grease, because she drank so neat. (Chaucer 1861) In this it is evident that people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
