How the United States can Solve the Debate on Female...
Historically, only men have fought in wars. Other than a few exceptions, such as Joan of Arc, this
has largely remained true to this day. However, in 2013, the Pentagon announced that by 2016, the
ban preventing women from entering combat will be fully revoked. This means that women in the
United States militarywill be placed into combat roles, such as Army and Marine infantry units,
artillery, armor, Special Operations Forces, and the Navy SEALs. This shift, which will open more
than 250,000 combat related jobs to women in the military, has generated mixed feelings from those
in the armed forces. A large number of female soldiers believe that this ban removal is simply a
formalization. This is because women have been deployed at or... Show more content on

One safeguard is that women s physical fitness requirements should not be lowered just so they can
be permitted into combat. Another precaution, one that may be expensive, is that separate facilities
and ground units should be established for women in deployment to help avoid sexual assault.
Also, a restriction that should be put in place is that women in the military should not be forced
into these combat roles. It s also very important to ensure that civilian women aren t included in the
draft. These proposals are within reason, and I believe that with them in place, the implementation
of women into combat will be successful.
The first precaution I mentioned was that women should not be held in a double standard,
meaning that the combat physical fitness requirements should not be lowered for them. We
wouldn t be doing female soldiers any favors by lowering these standards. In fact, they should be
raised to match the men s requirements so that they are better prepared for combat. The Pentagon
has noted that there will be gender neutral standards. They ve also stated that women, for
example, must be able to load a tank with fifty five pound shells, carry a backpack of over seventy
pounds, and be able to carry an injured man that weighs at least two hundred pounds

Comparing Byzantine And Western Culture
The two halves shared some similarities and one of them was the form of entertainment that
occurred in their culture. The Roman Empire and Byzantine cherished watching gladiator fights as
well as chariot races at the big stadiums. In Rome they watched at the coliseum while in Byzantine
the watching was done at Circus Maximus.
Both the Western and the Eastern halves considered themselves Roman s even though Eastern
Rome was greatly influenced by Greek Culture. However, the Eastern half has its headquarters in
Constantinople city and not Rome. The end of the late antiquity marked the split of the Roman
Empire into two, i.e. Western Rome and Eastern Rome. The former mainly spoke Latin while the
latter spoke Geek. The Western Rome was less densely

The Struggle To Achieve The American Dream
The American dream is to slide through an effortless and easy life. An easy life, one where things
are handed to you from the beginning, a movie picture life, is what Americans truly dream of.
People dream of a family, money, health, and material possessions at their fingertips for all their
lives. Many dream of something they really would not even wantin the end. Most people are not
handed all of these things and therefore are not capable of truly achieving the American dream,
but those few who live their lives easily, are left feeling unfulfilled, while those who have earned
the lives they lead are more likely to be content with the outcome. Many people live their lives,
from beginning to end, with little to no struggle, but the struggle helps you grow. Though they
may live and die happy, they will never understand what it truly feels like to achieve your goals.
Tom Buchanan has been given his life. Coming from a family with everything, he had the
American dream from the day he was born. He was born to a family with money and grew up
wealthy. He is healthy, though it was never mentioned how he kept himself that way and seems to
have come to him naturally. Easily, he convinced Daisy to marry him. He has all he could ever need

What Are America s Gifts To My Generation
America s Gift To My Generation
America has offered us many things to be proud of. But often times, we fail, and only look at the
simplest things. We think of our freedoms; speech, religion, press. But while those are our valuable
gifts, we forget to look inside of those gifts, to find something more meaningful. This essay is about
my generation s gift, but also everybody else s gift, unique in it s own time. It is believable, that
over the past 241 years, that the greatest gift, that shows up stronger in every generation, is the
spirit of us, a spirit We the people . In recent events, we may forget that we are one, but I know, that
we are, hand in hand. We founded this nation amidst a complication and confusion of divided
colonies, but linking arms and gritting our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And if people think that that has changed, through the division of Democrats and Republicans,
white and black, then we are inaccurate... because we forget what united us in events like the
World Wars. We forgot that every man, every woman, and even children were fighting to bring
about success, and sacrificed, everything, together. Do we even care to remember the
Revolutionary War, which is the reason why I am writing this, for you to read? We omit the
gory details from history, that actual ones that brought us home, home to a new nation. America
sometimes fails to realize that in order to be united, it is acceptable to mess up, as long as we
are determined to learn from it. The Civil War might ve been a mistake, something that never
should have happened, because we should have been treating everyone the equally in the first
place. America s mistake, the people s mistake, I admit it. But a learning process, all the same.
So here we are. Too blinded to see the greatest gift to our nation, that has always been one of the
best blessing ever bestowed upon us. Will we be the generation that wakes up and sees it for what
it is, and

The Benefits Of Abstinence-Only Curriculum
One of the most taboo topics within the American culture is sex. It is considered inappropriate to
speak of such a topic in any situation, especially around teenagers. Even in schools, many students
education have been censored in order to teach a curriculum that aligns with the core beliefs of
others who may not have the best interests of the students in mind. While the purpose of an
education is to equip a student with knowledge, the information that is currently being given about
sex educationis not beneficial because it is focused on an approach that has been proven ineffective.
In order to prepare teenagers for healthier and safer lifestyles, North Carolina students should
receive a more comprehensive sexual education including contraceptives in contrast to the current at
a glance abstinence based sexual education that is currently offered to students.
To understand the shortcomings of the current sex education curriculum, one must first examine the
structure of the present system and those who create it. The idea of an abstinence only curriculum
became a dominant force within the education system in the early 1970 s when nearly half of the
states voted to restrict and or abolish sex education. It was not until the mid 1980 s and the ... Show

resist becoming sexually active, preventing the transmittance of sexually transmitted diseases and
infections and allowing them to become responsible, sexually healthy

The Educational Work Of Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Maria got
her quest for knowledge from her parents who were both well educated. She started her education at
a local state school and proceeded onto a technical institute where she intended to pursue a career in
engineering. This was unusual at the time as there were barriers that constrained women s careers,
leaving them with fewer options to pursue technical careers than their male contemporaries.
Even after graduating from technical Maria yearned for me, this yearning led her to enroll in
medical school against her father s wishes and faced with the challenges and prejudice she would
face in this field. She triumphed through it all and in 1896 became the first woman to qualify as a
doctor in Italy. A little into her career, Maria began working with mentally retarded children it was
here that her observations would become fundamental to her future educational work.
Montessori began to develop her philosophy and methods in 1897. She caught everyone s attention
when most of her uneducable students passed the state test in reading and math, some scoring
above average. Curious how such principles would work with the mainstream population of
children, Montessori then opened her first school; Casa dei Bambini (Children s House) in 1907.
Montessori education spread to the United States in 1911 and became popular and widely accepted.
The educational philosophy however began to conflict with

Vacation cousin The drive to North Carolina was very long and boring . When will we be at the
hotel? I had asked, In about 4 hours. My dad told me. Over the summer, my family and I went to
North Carolina to celebrate my grand parent s 50th anniversary and my cousins were driving up
from Florida to meet us at the beach house. My grandparents took a plane up to Michigan to
spend a lot of time with us. They also came up to see some old friends and help at my house. I
was looking forward to spend a lot of time with mys who I hadn t seen in at least a year. The only
entertainment I had was a book that I had finished and my phone. The whole time my brother was
being loud, Ben can you quiet down?
No
Mom can you tell Ben to be quiet? I asked, Ben be quiet
Okay
I could finally try to sleep but couldn t find a comfortable spot to sleep. When I turned to the left,
the seat belt was in my face and when I turned right, I would fall into the middle of the seats.
When we finally reached the hotel, we unloaded and when out to dinner at a Texas Steak House
that was right across the street from the hotel that we were staying at.
When we got back to the hotel, I looked for my bed and it looked like I was sleeping on the pull
out couch but that was fine with me. When I woke up, I felt like I slept better on that pull out
couch then in my bed at home. I got dressed in clothes that I could wear i n the car for a long time
and went down to the main floor of the hotel to eat breakfast with my grandparents.
After a while, my parents, sisters ,and younger brother came walking down into the cafeteria to
eat and it was about 7:00 and we were going to leave at about 8:00 so we had time. The cafeteria
was full of people traveling in and out of the hotel. There was a long line of trying to figure out
what they were going to eat and little kids running around.

Taking a Look at Racism
Racism has presented itself countless times throughout the history of human existence. It exists in
many forms, and its consequences have proven dire several times. The definition of racism varies
depending on the dictionary, but the common theme throughout all definitions is one of intolerance
or hatred toward a culture. The concept of a culture, however, is a socially constructed concept in
order to classify humans based on their behavior, mannerisms, social ideals, ethnicity, age, faith,
skin color, or other category deemed identifiable. Every single one of the categories created to
define a culture was just that; they were created. On the grounds that culture is a social construct,
by the virtue of the definitions at hand, the hatred of a culture and therefore racism is in fact a
social construct. Presented with the question of What is racism and in what forms does it exist
today? it can be answered in a notably extreme way with a multitude of genocides occurring
throughout the world at this very moment. The very concept of a genocide is one built upon the
social construct of racism that has turned violent. The continent of Africa is most known for the
major genocides occurring today, such as in Darfur, Central African Republic, and many other
countries within the continent. Racism at its root is taking a socially constructed category, deeming
it lesser than the category that you put yourself into and using other socially constructed reasoning
to justify actions

Pros And Cons Of The 1920s Essay
The 1920s remodeled the country into the one we all know today. People s values, political
views, mindset, and lifestyle evolved with this new era. For instance, women roles went from
aspiring housekeepers to a new generation known as flappers. Flappers were free and adventurous
women who wore loose clothing They enjoyed drinking, smoking, dancing and proudly
disrespecting authority. Technology soon advanced as well. Inventions such as radios were
developed. The mass production of fords automobiles began and many companies adopted the idea
of assembly lines within their factories. The Great Migration not only brought many African

()Eventually, schools were also affected by the depression worsen education budgets were cut.
It soon reached a point where many began to die of starvation(). This is when trickle down
economics also known as supply side was viewed as a quick solution for this pending issue.
Trickle down economics logic is like a three level pyramid with a few holes punctured at each
status. The point of the pyramid would represent the wealthy business owners. The middle
would represent the middle class. Lastly, the base would represent the third class or poor. Taxes
would be cut from the first class in order for them to obtain more money. This is important
because it was believed if the rich had more money they would use it to benefit their businesses.
Then they would have enough money to hire employees. which would give employees money
and that money that employees received could go to them and their families to purchase goods
they were in need of. This money would help other businesses as well. Overall this plan would
ideally provide job opportunities, salaries, and consumption that would help pull the economy
out of the wreak it was currently in. However many people opposed the trickle down economics
plan. They believe it was set up to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Even future president
Franklin Roosevelt spoke out while he was governor of New York. In April of

The first individual variable is Location . We can characterize it as a categorical variable. For this

categorical variable, the events and measures of its central tendency and descriptive statistics cannot

Failure Of Appeasement Research Paper
Failure of Appeasement was the main reason WW2 occurred. How far do you agree?
The policy of appeasement was used between 1935 and 1939 by the League Of Nations towards
Nazi Germany. It involved making concessions to Germany, allowing Hitler to do things such as
Anschluss and invade the Sudetenland. Many historians, including Winston Churchill, critisied
appeasement at the time. One way in which Appeasement failed and contributed to the outbreak of
WW2 was that it encouraged Hitler to follow his expansionist policies (Lebensraum). This is shown
by the risks Hitler was taking, hoping no repurcussions would occur. One example of this the
remiliterisation of the Rhineland in March 1936 which, directly contradicting the terms laid out in

The league was designed to democratically complete its main aims; enocouraging disarmament
and improving working conditions and upholding peace. The League failed in these aims and
allowed powerful nations to gain unlawful global strongholds. One example of this was the
italian invasion of Corfu in 1923, the League failed to enforce sanctions and allowed mussolini to
demand compensation and an apology from greece. Mussolini could see the League was weak
and later invaded abysinnia in 1935. The league, once again, failed to act and the world lost
confidence in its ability to keep it safe.
The nazi soviet pact was signed between germany and russia, agreeing to complete non aggression
and the divison of poland. This meant Hitler could focus on the western front and gave him
confidence in winning the war. This meant the likelyhood of war breaking out was massivly
increased.
Overall, I believe the faliure of appeasement isnt the main reason for the outbreak of the second
world war because it bought Britain time to prepare for conflict. The failure of the League Of
Nations to prevent expansionist foreign powers was to blame. It didnt enforce sanctions on Italy,
Germany and Japan (as seen in the manchurian crisis) and allowed them to gain the confidence to

Absolute Affluence In Peter Singer s Rich And Poor
In Rich and Poor, Peter Singer argues that the existence of absolute affluence, allows the suffering
and death of others who are in absolute poverty, and this is morally equivalent to murder. In this
paper I plan to argue that although absolute affluence is an issue that should be addressed through
spending money on luxury items such as technology, we are able to advance our education, which
can ultimately lead to bringing the affluent and the impoverished together to create a world where
povertydoes not have to exist at all.
Singer argues we are responsible for the consequences of our actions, which means that frivolous
spending on luxury items instead of using that money to benefit the people in absolute poverty has
the consequence of someone in absolute poverty suffering or dying. This results in the frivolous
spender being responsible for their death. Although the people in absolute affluence do not set out
with the intent to murder, or even have the malice behind it, they still are considered morally
responsible. The idea is the death could have been prevented with the monetary help from the
luxury spender. Instead the luxury spender ignored their suffering, and thus the consequence is the
luxury spender is in part to blame for their death. Singer brings up the argument against this belief.
The absolute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Speaking from the perspective of someone whose parents are considered to be absolutely affluent, I
know limiting my parents in their free will decisions will not ultimately fix the suffering of those in

Stand Your Ground Law And Black Youth
ABSTRACT
Stand your Ground Law and Black Youth
The controversies surrounding Stand your Ground Laws have recently captured the nation s
attention. From the infamous Trayvon Martin case, in Florida alone, 26 children have been killed
in Stand Your Ground cases. Since 2005, eighteen states have passed laws extending the right to
self defense with no duty to retreat to any place a person has a legal right to be. Despite the
implications that these laws may have for public safety, there has been little empirical investigation
of their impact on crime and victimization. In this paper, I will be researching reasons why Stand
your Ground Law was implemented, the impact of this law on crime and victimization against
black youth. Focusing on many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was claimed to have used justifiable use of force though he was told not to follow Trayvon,
and he was not suppose to have gun being the community watchman. Due to the conditions that
triggered the shooting this induced major media coverage and the big topic being discussed at the
time was using Stand Your Ground laws which allows individuals to use force, including lethal
force, in self defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without having any duty to retreat
first. Stand your Ground law states that a person may use deadly force in self defense without the
duty to retreat when faced with a reasonable perceived threat. When Stand your Ground laws
were advocated in Florida and other states, their proponents marketed them as a reestablishment
of a natural right, arguing the duty to retreat has not always been a part of the common law .
The historical context may be misleading, allowing self defense only when reasonably necessary,
and a duty to retreat when attacked outside one s home. The National Rifle Association seek to
influence the Stand your Ground Law as a away for people to protect themselves. Though
opponents who were against this law worried it would encourage the use of deadly force. For
example, a 2004 case James Workman, a seventy seven year old retiree who was sleeping in his RV,
where an intruder busted into the trailer. James shot the intruder and had to wait months for the
verdict. Prosecutors then decided the shots he

The Book Of The City Of Ladies
INTRODUCTION Historically, women were thought of as inferior in physical strength, religious
traditions, philosophical and have faced intense discrimination from a lack of legal rights and very
little independence from their husbands and society at large. In many societies, women have long
been viewed as less than fully human. Christine de Pizan in her book The Book of the City of
Ladies 1405, wrote that the oppression of women is founded on irrational prejudice, pointing out
numerous advances in society probably created by women. Under the end of the 19th century,
women were excluded from taking part in voting and politics, certain public events, education and
in many professions. By the late 19th century and the turn of the 20th century, witnessed
strengthening of the women s movement both at the local and international level, leading to an
increase in the public awareness of women s rights, women the world over were pushing for
greater equality. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in the United States, and the
Suffragettes led by the Pankhurts in England were among the first pioneers of the women s
movement. This was a period of much activity as women organized themselves into public and
high profile advocacy groups, campaigning for the right to vote and equality in economic and
property rights. As a result, starting from the latter half of the 1990s, the relevant national
legislation has been undergoing a process of review and important steps have been taken

Esthetic Considerations in complete denture
What would an edentulous patient wish for other than restoring back his teeth, smile and beauty?
Of course, when dealing with artificial teeth in complete dentures, many will be terrified of the idea
of their future artificial appearance and will think restoring old natural appearance is impossible,
but they have no idea that removable prosthodontics is the art branch of dentistry, and that it has in
its dictionary what we call Denture esthetics: the cosmetic effect produced by a dental prosthesis
which affects the desirable beauty, attractiveness, character, and dignity of the individual.
Denture esthetics combines and blends science and art, therefore it does not have any set rules, but
relies on the artistic view of the dentist, guided by his scientific knowledge.
Since the days of Hippocrates in the 5th century BC, till recently, many concepts were presented for
teeth selection and arrangement, each trying to add more natural aspect of an artificial dentition .
After combining and summarizing most of these concepts, we can list some of the main points a
dent art ist follows to make his patient s face and mouth appear as natural as before.

Essay on God and Daniel Defoe s Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe and God
As Robinson Crusoe salvages anything useful for his subsistence off of the shipwreck, he alludes to
his materialism.
...O Drug!.. what art thou good for, thou art not worth to me, no not the taking off of the ground,
one of those knives is worth all this heap, I have no manner of use for thee, e en remain where
thou art, and go to the bottom as a creature whose life is not worth saving...
However, upon second thoughts, I took it away... (Defoe 57)

however, Crusoe sees real beauty in the saving hand of God. The dominant theme in Robinson
Crusoe is that sin has its retribution, but peace can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even after the first stage in his adventures, which he culminates in Crusoe s amassing a modest

says, he leaves his plantation and once again takes up the uncertain life of seatrade.
But I, that was born to be my own destroyer, could no more resist the offer than I could restrain
my first rambling designs, when my father s good counsel was lost upon me. (Defoe 29) He again
provokes Providence by becoming a salve trader. As punishment his ship is wrecked in a storm, and
he escapes to an uninhabited island.
Stripped of all his illusions, limited by necessity to one small place, Crusoe is thrown back upon
himself, confronted by an immense emptiness. What is this earth and sea which I have seen so
much? Whence is it produced? And what am I and of the creatures, wild, tame, human and brutal?
Whence are we?
All of these questions predate Crusoe s religious conversion, the central and most significant act of
the novel. His answer to the question is that all creation comes from God and that the state of
creation, including his own, is an expression of the will of God.3 Upon this act of faith, he rebuilds

How To Legalize Marijuana In The United States
The legal status of marijuana in the US has been a subject of controversy since its introduction in

Legalizing marijuana would not only be an economic boon for the US and be beneficial for our

Nazi Oppression Of Sports In The 1936 Summer Olympics
The 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany was a key moment whereby African American
and Jews used sports to politically challenge the Nazi ideology of Aryan supremacy and non
Aryan inferiority. Paul Taylor argues that sports is one of the most powerful weapons in the
hands of those suffering under racial prejudice or political oppression. During the 1936
Olympics, Hitler dialed down the anti Semitic propaganda due to international pressures, but in
official Nazi sporting hand books it specifically targeted Jews and African American s as being
physically inferior to the Aryan race as they lacked athletic ability. Also, Nazi theorists like Kurt
Munch claimed that Jews and Blacks were feeble athletes and had never achieved any success in
athletics. The creator of the Olympic games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, believed that the Olympic
games encouraged people to look beyond the interests they had in common by bringing the best
athletes from every country, culture, and race, and giving them a platform where they could earn
respect and admiration based on skill and not race, creed, or nationality. Although, African
Americans and Jews did not voice their political beliefs they used their athletic skill and would
have acquired praise from Coubertin because they directly challenged Hitler s ideology that non
Aryan s were inferior.Jessie Owens, who was a famous African American sprinter, fought back
against Hitler s racial stereotypes of Blacks by winning four gold medals

develop the theme in both Evolution and Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer. Although
the two poems express similar themes, there is a contrasts between the two poems due to the tone
of each piece and the literary elements employed. Due to the fact that both poems were written
within twenty years of each other, each author conveys a similar message. In both poems, there is
a sense of deprivation for the Native American identity. Alexie takes a more blunt approach on
expressing this theme: ...when the last Indian has pawned everything but his heart, Buffalo Bill
takes that for twenty bucks... (Lines 11 12). This informs the reader that Buffalo Bill, a historical
reference to a white explorer and hunter, will take every last item down to a heart. As a result,
Native Americans are knowingly giving up their

Lymphoma Case Study
Treatment of lymphoma may cause fibrosis and necrosis in lymph nodes which can limit size
based response assessments. In 1999, the IWG criteria commonly known as Cheson criteria,
defined five categories of clinical response based on CT imaging of lesion size for non Hodgkin
Lymphoma (NHL) [36]. Original criteria had limitations such as a high variability, the failure to
consider 18FDG PET, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and flow cytometry and the failure to take
into account non nodal disease. Revised criteria by the IWG published in 2007, were applied to
NHL and also Hodgkin s disease [37]. It integrates 18FDG PET, IHC, and flow cytometry into
original criteria which adds more sensitivity to both staging and evaluation of treatment response....

Critical Analysis Of Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely As A...
Critical theory , in terms of literature, can be defined as a form of criticism through the close
reading of a text and the application of knowledge acquired from the study of the humanities. The
multiple readings mentioned in the question refers to the different schools of literary criticism for
example, structuralism, feminist theory, new historicism/cultural materialism, ecocriticism and
postcolonial criticism. It is true to say that Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud can be
read and interpreted in many different ways, especially when both the original and revised versions
of the poem are taken into account. In my opinion, the most interesting criticism that can be applied
to this poem is structuralism, which I will be analysing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Conduction I Thermal Radiation Research Paper
Everything in the universe is made up of matter, which is composed of atoms. Atoms move at a
constant rate of motion and the motion of the atoms create or form heat or thermal energy. The
idea or theory of heat was contrived in 1738 by Sir Benjamin Thompson but was gradually
developed by French physicist, Sadi Cornot. Because technology has modernized, the theory of heat
has been developed immensely, which has resulted into variations of forms. Besides the scientific
research that requires heat, heat is also the main component for things such as cooking food. Heat
is identified by components that practice different roles based on the reactions or effects produced.
Heat can only be transferred by conduction, convection, and radiation. Although they categorized
under the same context, heat, they produce effects that varies and separates them.

The amount of energy that is emitted from the light source is based on the temperature of the object.
Radiation is a form of transferring heat that does not require any direct physical contact between
the source of heat and the object receiving the heat. The electromagnetic form of radiation is
called, infrared radiation, which is that passing of heat in empty space. No mass is exchanged
and no medium is required during this process. Common examples of radiation found in
everyday life is the sun rays giving of heat that effects the organisms that receives the energy of
them indirectly or heat released from light bulb. Thermal energy is a component of life that

Will Hydrating Before Exercise Really Improve Athletic...
Introduction Athletes everyone always hear you have to stay hydrated: make sure you drink
plenty of fluids , etc., but what does that actually mean, and what does it do to improve athletic
performance. Our bodies require adequate amounts of water in order to survive because water
regulates our body s temperature, transports nutrients, and circulates blood throughout our entire
bodies. If our bodies loose too much water we become dehydrated. During exercise, our bodies
sweat out a lot of the water in our bodies. Too much water loss can lead to dehydration, which can
potentially decrease the athletic performance, physically and mentally and lead to serious injury
and illness (1). Will hydrating before exercise really improve athletic performance? Discussion

physiological function, and increases that risk for heat related illness (1). If you are going to let

Shingles On The Roof Research Paper
What To Do About Damaged Shingles On Your Roof
Replacing a loose shingle is a common type of roof repair you may have to make, especially if
you have trees that grow too close to your roof. When tree branches scrape the shingles, they lift
up the edges and the shingles eventually curl. Then the wind catches them during a storm and
finishes ripping the shingles off the roof. Even if the shingles aren t missing completely, you still
want to repair them when you notice they are twisted out of place or curled up on the ends. Here s
how to go about making these roof repairs.

Making The Repairs
You can buy all the supplies you need for roof repairs at a home improvement store. It may be
difficult to find an exact color match if your shingles are old and faded due to sun exposure, so
you ll have to do the best you can. In addition to shingles, you ll need roofing nails, a crowbar,
hammer, and roofing adhesive. In places where a shingle is completely missing, you can slide a
new one into the empty space and nail it down using the same nail holes used for the old shingle.
If a shingle is badly curled or cracked, decide if you want to replace it or repair it. Replacing it
might be quicker if you have extra shingles on hand. Use the crowbar to pry up the old shingle.
Pull the nails out, and then slide in the new shingle and nail it in place. If you want to repair the
shingle instead, all you have to do is put roofing adhesive under the curl or over the crack. Place a
brick over the curled portion of the shingle to hold it in place until the adhesive

Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia
Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immune system disorder where the reaction of the
immune system attacks itself causing a low platelet count, placing those affected at risk for
severe hemorrhage. Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) formally known as idiopathic
thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP), is now defined as an immunological disorder where the body
attacks its self and destroys platelets (McCare 2011). ITP a disorder defined by a low platelet
count in which platelet productions are both impaired and destroyed by anti platelet antibodies.
ITP is diagnosed with a platelet count less than 100,000/uL with no known evidence of anemia or
leukopenia. ITP can have a negative effect on life expectancy reducing it by approximately 20 years.

The body views the platelets as a foreign body and causes a response that produces antibodies that
marks the spleen to destroy and remove the platelets. The platelet count is affected by antibodies
produced by individuals with ITP. The antibody produced covers the surface of the platelets
making them easily destructible by macrophages. Once the macrophages destroy the platelets faster
than they are produced, the number of platelets are greatly reduced causing a decrease in blood
clotting.
Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia is most common in women between the age of 20 40 years of age
and also commonly known to affect children with a recent viral infection such as Rubella or
German Measles. ITP can be both chronic and acute. Chronic ITP is progressive and insidious
found more common with women between the ages of 20 40, with complications noted mostly
during childbirth. Acute ITP self limiting and is often seen in the pediatric population after a viral
infection and spontaneously resolves without treatment within 6 months (McCare

Tarkovsky s Cinema Essay
Tarkovsky s Cinema
To begin, Tarkovsky s cinema is not about historical realism or exposing the everyday as it really
is. Cinema is unavoidably an especially paranoid representation of experience. Sculpture hewn in
time resembles everyday events no more than wood sculpture does stumps. What makes Tarkovsky
interesting might be gotten at in terms of doors and windows. Dalle Vacche[1] approaches the
array of moments and differences in the style:
Tarkovsky s refusal to attach these faces to a situation, to a decision, or to an exchange of looks
with another character makes these anonymous and minor figures especially elusive. Yet their

Like Florensky s[3] idea of reverse perspective in Russian iconic painting, here the level of reality
of the Archimedean point of perspective flips from earthly to spiritual. It makes us dreamers.
Renaissance painting subordinates every scene to the single eye with all light converging at this
single point, but Florensky sees the reverse of this convergence in icons. Multiple sides are visible
and the perspective of the painting does not overwhelm that which is seen. Andrei Rublev is, in this
way, not such a work of art.
If usual film is paranoid experience because, unlike day to day life where the connection between
one experience and another depends mostly on faiths in your self, all moments are meaningful
and relative, Tarkovsky may reverse this. In film, all gestures, characters and textures ultimately
link back together in ways it is yours to discover. In life , the significance of all the parts, worry
not, will happen to you. Looking into Andrei Rublev is such a wasted moment of voyeurism that
the transaction is less about vision going out the window than what drifts back in. Lives and times
are no longer packaged in the comfortable realistic perspectives that conventions such as third
person narrative strive to maintain. The activity of looking through windows ... implies a viewer in

The Risk Of Individual Investments
To remedy for the latter, the risk of individual investments in the portfolio is mapped to more
common market risks when we compute VaR. Before we proceed with an example involving
bonds, two terms have to be defined: coupon bond and a zero coupon bond. A coupon bond is a
debt investment in which an investor loans money to a company for a period of time. The
company, the borrower, in return promises to make interest payments called coupons over a
defined period of time and also pay the full amount of the loan at the end of the period. A zero
coupon bondon the other does not pay coupon interest. Suppose that we want to determine the VaR
of a 10 year coupon bond with annual coupons C in our portfolio. First, we break the 10 year coupon

Finally, we compute the Value at Risk by using the weights on the standardized instruments that we
previously computed. Again, before we proceed with an example involving this time forward
contract, we should define what a forward contract is and how it is used in financial markets.
Futures contracts are contractual agreement to buy or sell a particular commodity or financial asset
at a predetermined price in the future. The contract usually details the quantity and quality of the
underlying asset to be delivered in the future. Suppose now that we want to find the VaR of a six
month dollar to euro forward contract. We compute the VaR going through the following four steps:
We first map the standardized market risks and instruments underlying this security. Second, we
determine the position needed to be taken in the standardized instruments. We then estimate the
variances and covariance of these instruments and we finally compute the VaR in the forward
contract.
Step 1: Again, we are looking forward to map the standardized market risks and the instruments
underlying this security. The market variables that affect the six month forward contract are the
six month risk free rate in each currency (dollar and euro) and the spot exchange rate. We hence
match up the previous market factors respectively to a six month zero coupon dollar bond, a six
month zero coupon euro bond and the spot dollar to euro.

Many different ideologies have been practiced throughout history and many have failed to work.
The ideology that I think has created the most success for the government and its people is
democracy. The definition of democracy is a political system of mass participation, competitive
elections, and human and civil rights (Roskin 88). This is the clear definition of democracy, but
there are many different forms for example there is a representative democracy and illiberal

The winner would be determined by popular vote because it make things less complicated. After
the people vote the candidate in they would then be able to vote on certain issues they would
like the government to fix or get rid of. The voting would be direct because then the people
would be voting on exactly what they want. The indirect way of voting allows for the people in
power to manipulate the issue to the benefit of the government and that s not they it should be.
The government would control all of the international business that doesn t directly affect the
people in my country. The government would also be allowed to declare war if the people s
safety is put in immediate danger. They would have this power because if the country is being

How Did Mughal Decline
Mughal Decline, the debate that won t die among historians. It s one of the major topics of
South Asian History. There are about 500+ books on this subject matter. This subject has been
quite extensively discussed over the past century and why won t it be? There are several
questions that need to be answered. How the empire that ruled over two centuries with
exceptional power and wealth came to decline? How the empire that had brilliant military
strategy and superior artillery of Babur (1483 1530), which stimulated a new level of settled
agriculture, military capability, and geographic integration, can become so weak that it was
controlled by sundry courtiers and later by various rising warlords. How did the invaders like

One of the reason could be as Mughal power began to falter, the East India Company found its

Schools Should End Up Hurting American Students
America has always been a place where people from all over the world have strived to travel in
hopes of creating a better and more promising future for themselves. In today s classrooms, teachers
are experiencing the culture and language related effects of that endeavor. With an increasing
amount of non English speakers entering the country each year, the population of students who
speak English as a second languageor no English at all increases as well. Not only are these students
entering with knowledge of another language but they also enter with the history of another culture.
These students are taught and raised to love their traditional languages and cultures. To take these
aspects away from them in order to make them understand our way of life is not fair nor is it
educationally beneficial. Some say foreigners need to assimilate because they are entering our
country and by trying to accommodate their tradition, schools will end up hurting American
students educational progress. This is not found to be true in as many cases as one would think
though. By incorporating home or second language and diverse cultural exploration in combination
with Standard English and American culture into the classroom, all students will benefit in multiple
areas of learning and life. With evidence from studies, it is exemplified that implementing home
language and culture in combination with English and American culture may improve the

Adam Goodes Booing In Australia Analysis

Adam Goodes booing is firstly not about his background and where on this planet he came from.

He attracted billions of dollars and several large hedge funds also invested in the firm because he
did not charge usual fees and only collected fees for processing trades. Madoff offered modest
and steady returns to exclusive clients instead of offering high returns to all clients, giving the
appearance of his firm to be exclusive. The firm s annual returns were abnormally consistent, a
key factor in achieving the fraud.7 Most business men believed the story that a single person
could generate returns of 12 to 13 percent a year trading the stock market no matter what
happens without a single down quarter.7 Some of these people applied for membership to the
clubs that Madoff was a member of, in order to meet and be accepted by him. In addition, he
never hustled anyone for investing with him; instead he let them come to him. Thus, he created
this aura of exclusivity around him and everyone wanted to be a part of his club. One of the
groups targeted by Madoff was the Jewish circuit. Being Jewish, Madoff attracted many wealthy
Jewish people he met at country clubs on Long Island and Palm Beach. This was an Affinity Ponzi

In addition to litigation costs, corporate s reputation has been damaged and fewer skilled workers
are willing to work for it.
2.High employee turnover. The business suffers from high employee turnover that increases firm s
costs, as it has to train new employees more often. The main reason for high employee turnover is
low skilled, poorly paid jobs.
3.Little differentiation. Walmart has no differentiation compared to its competitors, which might
hurt the company in the future if commodity prices or average consumer income would increase.
In this case, low cost leadership strategy wouldn t be as effective as it currently is and Walmart s
main competitive advantage would erode.
4.Negative publicity. The company is often criticized for its questionable practices such as bribery
of authorities or poor work conditions. Negative publicity damages corporate s reputation.
Opportunities
1.Retail market growth in emerging markets. Retail markets grew by at least 5% on average in
emerging markets in the last year, opening huge opportunities for Walmart s revenue growth. The
business currently operates in Brazil, Mexico, China and India markets. Walmart should increase its
presence in these markets to sustain future growth.
2.Rising acceptance of own label products. The sales of private label products have increased by
more than 40% over the last 10 years. This reveals increasing consumer acceptance of supermarket

Ecology And Plant Ecology
In this article examples are going to be discussed of the application of molecular biology in the
field of plant ecology, what molecular biology is as well as what plant ecology is. Plant ecology is
one of the branches in the scientific field of ecology that mainly focus on plant population and their
surroundings (McMahon, 2016). Plant ecologists also look at other factors that have an impact on
the plants and their environment. According to the MIT Department of Biology, plant molecular

Researchers do not just look at the plant but keeps in mind how the plants interact with each other
and their environment. A Plant ecologist do not just look at plants but also the soil conditions,
animals and other influences that might have an impact on the plants environment. According to
McMahon (2016) plant ecology is not just a plant itself but, is everything from understanding
the plants environment functions as well as the interaction of humans with the natural
environment. The area most focused on in plant ecology is topics like climate change, plant
diseases and the symbiotic relationship between plant species and how plants spread in nature
(McMahon, 2016). Plant ecology involves a lot of field work because the plant needs to be
viewed in their natural habitat to understand why the plant looks like it does. Plant ecology
covers a wide range of research for instance the study of plants growing in a specific ecosystem
for example the rainforest, or a specific area that is of interest, like a population of plants that is
growing next to a polluted river or dam. It can also help researchers to study endangered
ecosystems and plant populations including not vascular plants like mosses. Plants make up a very
large part of the natural environment. Plants do not just provide people and animals with food but
also with shelter for animals, prevents erosion and the most important part is that plants provide us
with oxygen (McMahon,

Symbolism In Night By Elie Wiesel
Casey Shafer 1.
Ms. Scannell
English II

Analysis of Night Elie Wiesel went through some dark times, as a result he uses symbols to
describe these trying times. A literary symbol is used to unite an image and an idea to evoke
thought. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, night, fire, and silence are used as symbols to describe
the darkness of his history. In this article i intend to analyse how night is used to show the
darkness of humanity in this time period throughout the novel, how fire represented that they
were in hell, and how silence is used to show the loss of faith and fear. The biggest symbol used
in the novel is night it s even used as the title to hint towards the story s darkness. Wiesel uses the
word night to show death, darkness, and a world without God. Throughout the book there were
many last nights ; for example, the last night in Sighet, the last night with his father, and even the
last night of innocence. The worst suffering in the book happens at night, the train ride to the
concentration camp was his last night of freedom before they got there, the first selection was at 9

Examples Of Certainty In Hamlet
Certainty In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, examples of the impossibility of certainty
are prevalent. The Play takes place in a kingdom that was in an extreme amount of turmoil, due to
the death of their long King, Hamlet; as well as the theft of the throne by Claudius, Prince Hamlet s
uncle. The young Hamletis very distraught to start the play, and this tendency increases and
continues throughout. Hamlet is in such a state of mind, due to these circumstances, that he
questions everything; from his love for Ophelia, to pondering life after death. Hamlet s moral
uncertainty was the prominent reason that he fails in his task of taking his rightful place as king of
the Danes.
Hamlet s love for Ophelia is never clearly explained through the duration of the story. At Ophelia
s funeral, he blatantly says I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers could not with all their
quantity of love make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her? (VI.i.285 287) Some may be led to
believe that this is true and spoken from his heart; and others look at the way that Hamlet treated
her, and how he is the reason for her madness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most obvious being when he was going to plunge his rapier through him during Claudius s
prayer. Most people would see the passion that Hamlet has to avenge his father, as well as
become king, and expect him to kill Claudius without remorse. However, in reality, he doesn t
know whether or not enough pain would be inflicted onto him with such a simple death. He wishes
Claudius to be damned to Hell for what he has done to him, and his family, and he questions if that
will happen given Claudius was repenting at the time the murder would ve happened. You see
this indecision when hamlet says Now might I do it pat, now he is praying; and now I ll do t.
And so he goes to heaven; and so am I revenged. That would be scann d.

underwent into dramatic transformations.
Stage 1: Before 1949 Pre Industrial Faridabad
Until 1950 Faridabad was intended to be a marketing centre for milk and vegetables. The
relationship to the surrounding country was less important than the influence of Delhi as
consumption and employment centre.
Stage 2: 1949 2000 Creative Phase of Faridabad as an Industrial Hub
Resettlement of Refugee
After independence, the town became an important centre for the resettlement of refugees because
of India Pakistan partition. They were rehabilitated by Jawaharlal Nehru as part of the Pakistani
Refugee Resettlement Project (PRRP) following partition in 1947. Also in an attempt to de clog
Delhi, many central government offices were consciously moved to this city. What was previously
just a wasteland was converted into a thriving colony. This was also a big and unique human

Designing A Mini Models Of Ourselves
I squinted as the bright, afternoon sun was peeped through the window where it was not covered
with art projects. There were drawing of flowers, cars, Disney princesses, and basketballs all
around the art room.
Ok class, today we are going to make mini models of ourselves, Mr. Bushier said as he brought out
supplies. We all excitedly scurried towards the table with colored paper neatly placed in stacks. I
took a tanish and brown colored paper and tried to cut it out to be the shape of my face. It did not
look like a head at all, and then I realized that I forgot the neck. Frustrated, I crumpled it up and
threw it away. Just like the next piece of paper and the next. After I repeated this multiple times, I
finally got it.

It is a break from school, and when I paint it is the only thing I think about. Sometimes I give my
paintings as a gift. This is mostly for close family members, like my grandfather. My grandfather
worked for a forest organization before he retired. He loves animals, plants and nature in general.
Most of my family lives in India, and we go to visit once in awhile. Three years ago, before we
went to visit him I worked on a painting of a lion cub. The painting had a bright sap green
background with a orangish brown cub. The cub had big, silvery, gray eyes that sparkled in the
light. It took me two months to finish it with school and other activities. Then I neatly wrapped
it up and placed it my suitcase. I couldn t wait to give it to him. Grandparents like whatever you
do no matter how it is. For them it is the thought that counts. Just hearing I did this for him made
his eyes light up with joy. When I showed it to him he was really excited and knew exactly where
to put it. Now, it hangs on the door of a creamy white cupboard in my grandpa s room. It is the
first thing that can be seen when you open the bedroom door. Once I started seriously trying to
learn how to new techniques, my parents encouraged me to take art lessons. Every year my
teacher held an art gallery. For that, she encouraged her students to have at least one piece they
want to showcase. My piece was a scenery of a

Hosea And Goman Analysis
In the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer, Hosea shows his unwavering faithfulness to his wife
Gomer and to God. Hosea in this story, fully demonstrates the term chesed which means showing
an unwavering faithfulness to people who are unfaithful. Gomer a former prostitute, leaves her
husband and sells herself back into prostitution. Hosea then goes out looking for Gomer and
eventually buys his wife out of prostitution. Hosea in the story is a direct reflection of God
because; he shows God s chesed, he replicates God s love to all races and backgrounds, and he
shows how God doesn t put a price on love and salvation. As stated earlier Hosea showed
faithfulness to Gomer, who in reality did not deserve Hosea s faithfulness. However, Hosea acted...

Hosea saw that he was saving his wife from being sold back into prostitution, and gave her a safe
place to live. Most people would see that Hosea gets nothing out of the deal, but Hosea saw that
the deal couldn t have gone any better. This story of Hosea buying back what he owns
foreshadows God buying back his Kingdom in the New Testament. God had to buy back his
Kingdom, which he already owned and he paid for this with his Son Jesus Christ. God doesn t give
any challenges that he wouldn t challenge himself with, and in this story he challenged Hosea and

  • 2. How the United States can Solve the Debate on Female... Historically, only men have fought in wars. Other than a few exceptions, such as Joan of Arc, this has largely remained true to this day. However, in 2013, the Pentagon announced that by 2016, the ban preventing women from entering combat will be fully revoked. This means that women in the United States militarywill be placed into combat roles, such as Army and Marine infantry units, artillery, armor, Special Operations Forces, and the Navy SEALs. This shift, which will open more than 250,000 combat related jobs to women in the military, has generated mixed feelings from those in the armed forces. A large number of female soldiers believe that this ban removal is simply a formalization. This is because women have been deployed at or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One safeguard is that women s physical fitness requirements should not be lowered just so they can be permitted into combat. Another precaution, one that may be expensive, is that separate facilities and ground units should be established for women in deployment to help avoid sexual assault. Also, a restriction that should be put in place is that women in the military should not be forced into these combat roles. It s also very important to ensure that civilian women aren t included in the draft. These proposals are within reason, and I believe that with them in place, the implementation of women into combat will be successful. The first precaution I mentioned was that women should not be held in a double standard, meaning that the combat physical fitness requirements should not be lowered for them. We wouldn t be doing female soldiers any favors by lowering these standards. In fact, they should be raised to match the men s requirements so that they are better prepared for combat. The Pentagon has noted that there will be gender neutral standards. They ve also stated that women, for example, must be able to load a tank with fifty five pound shells, carry a backpack of over seventy pounds, and be able to carry an injured man that weighs at least two hundred pounds ... • 3. Comparing Byzantine And Western Culture The two halves shared some similarities and one of them was the form of entertainment that occurred in their culture. The Roman Empire and Byzantine cherished watching gladiator fights as well as chariot races at the big stadiums. In Rome they watched at the coliseum while in Byzantine the watching was done at Circus Maximus. Both the Western and the Eastern halves considered themselves Roman s even though Eastern Rome was greatly influenced by Greek Culture. However, the Eastern half has its headquarters in Constantinople city and not Rome. The end of the late antiquity marked the split of the Roman Empire into two, i.e. Western Rome and Eastern Rome. The former mainly spoke Latin while the latter spoke Geek. The Western Rome was less densely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Struggle To Achieve The American Dream The American dream is to slide through an effortless and easy life. An easy life, one where things are handed to you from the beginning, a movie picture life, is what Americans truly dream of. People dream of a family, money, health, and material possessions at their fingertips for all their lives. Many dream of something they really would not even wantin the end. Most people are not handed all of these things and therefore are not capable of truly achieving the American dream, but those few who live their lives easily, are left feeling unfulfilled, while those who have earned the lives they lead are more likely to be content with the outcome. Many people live their lives, from beginning to end, with little to no struggle, but the struggle helps you grow. Though they may live and die happy, they will never understand what it truly feels like to achieve your goals. Tom Buchanan has been given his life. Coming from a family with everything, he had the American dream from the day he was born. He was born to a family with money and grew up wealthy. He is healthy, though it was never mentioned how he kept himself that way and seems to have come to him naturally. Easily, he convinced Daisy to marry him. He has all he could ever need , and everything most Americans dream of.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She comes from old money and will never live a life without it. She earned being with Gatsby through the work it took to start and continue the affair, but Tom was easy. Her family approved of Tom, they were in the same class, and everything worked well for the two to be together. It fit with their lifestyle, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Are America s Gifts To My Generation America s Gift To My Generation America has offered us many things to be proud of. But often times, we fail, and only look at the simplest things. We think of our freedoms; speech, religion, press. But while those are our valuable gifts, we forget to look inside of those gifts, to find something more meaningful. This essay is about my generation s gift, but also everybody else s gift, unique in it s own time. It is believable, that over the past 241 years, that the greatest gift, that shows up stronger in every generation, is the spirit of us, a spirit We the people . In recent events, we may forget that we are one, but I know, that we are, hand in hand. We founded this nation amidst a complication and confusion of divided colonies, but linking arms and gritting our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And if people think that that has changed, through the division of Democrats and Republicans, white and black, then we are inaccurate... because we forget what united us in events like the World Wars. We forgot that every man, every woman, and even children were fighting to bring about success, and sacrificed, everything, together. Do we even care to remember the Revolutionary War, which is the reason why I am writing this, for you to read? We omit the gory details from history, that actual ones that brought us home, home to a new nation. America sometimes fails to realize that in order to be united, it is acceptable to mess up, as long as we are determined to learn from it. The Civil War might ve been a mistake, something that never should have happened, because we should have been treating everyone the equally in the first place. America s mistake, the people s mistake, I admit it. But a learning process, all the same. So here we are. Too blinded to see the greatest gift to our nation, that has always been one of the best blessing ever bestowed upon us. Will we be the generation that wakes up and sees it for what it is, and ... • 7. The Benefits Of Abstinence-Only Curriculum One of the most taboo topics within the American culture is sex. It is considered inappropriate to speak of such a topic in any situation, especially around teenagers. Even in schools, many students education have been censored in order to teach a curriculum that aligns with the core beliefs of others who may not have the best interests of the students in mind. While the purpose of an education is to equip a student with knowledge, the information that is currently being given about sex educationis not beneficial because it is focused on an approach that has been proven ineffective. In order to prepare teenagers for healthier and safer lifestyles, North Carolina students should receive a more comprehensive sexual education including contraceptives in contrast to the current at a glance abstinence based sexual education that is currently offered to students. To understand the shortcomings of the current sex education curriculum, one must first examine the structure of the present system and those who create it. • 8. The Educational Work Of Maria Montessori Maria Montessori was born on the 31st August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Maria got her quest for knowledge from her parents who were both well educated. She started her education at a local state school and proceeded onto a technical institute where she intended to pursue a career in engineering. This was unusual at the time as there were barriers that constrained women s careers, leaving them with fewer options to pursue technical careers than their male contemporaries. Even after graduating from technical Maria yearned for me, this yearning led her to enroll in medical school against her father s wishes and faced with the challenges and prejudice she would face in this field. She triumphed through it all and in 1896 became the first woman to qualify as a doctor in Italy. A little into her career, Maria began working with mentally retarded children it was here that her observations would become fundamental to her future educational work. Montessori began to develop her philosophy and methods in 1897. She caught everyone s attention when most of her uneducable students passed the state test in reading and math, some scoring above average. Curious how such principles would work with the mainstream population of children, Montessori then opened her first school; Casa dei Bambini (Children s House) in 1907. Montessori education spread to the United States in 1911 and became popular and widely accepted. The educational philosophy however began to conflict with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When we got back to the hotel, I looked for my bed and it looked like I was sleeping on the pull out couch but that was fine with me. When I woke up, I felt like I slept better on that pull out couch then in my bed at home. I got dressed in clothes that I could wear i n the car for a long time and went down to the main floor of the hotel to eat breakfast with my grandparents. After a while, my parents, sisters ,and younger brother came walking down into the cafeteria to eat and it was about 7:00 and we were going to leave at about 8:00 so we had time. • 10. Taking a Look at Racism Racism has presented itself countless times throughout the history of human existence. It exists in many forms, and its consequences have proven dire several times. The definition of racism varies depending on the dictionary, but the common theme throughout all definitions is one of intolerance or hatred toward a culture. The concept of a culture, however, is a socially constructed concept in order to classify humans based on their behavior, mannerisms, social ideals, ethnicity, age, faith, skin color, or other category deemed identifiable. Every single one of the categories created to define a culture was just that; they were created. On the grounds that culture is a social construct, by the virtue of the definitions at hand, the hatred of a culture and therefore racism is in fact a social construct. Presented with the question of What is racism and in what forms does it exist today? it can be answered in a notably extreme way with a multitude of genocides occurring throughout the world at this very moment. The very concept of a genocide is one built upon the social construct of racism that has turned violent. The continent of Africa is most known for the major genocides occurring today, such as in Darfur, Central African Republic, and many other countries within the continent. Racism at its root is taking a socially constructed category, deeming it lesser than the category that you put yourself into and using other socially constructed reasoning to justify actions ... For instance, women roles went from aspiring housekeepers to a new generation known as flappers. Flappers were free and adventurous women who wore loose clothing They enjoyed drinking, smoking, dancing and proudly disrespecting authority. Technology soon advanced as well. Inventions such as radios were developed. The mass production of fords automobiles began and many companies adopted the idea of assembly lines within their factories. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ()Eventually, schools were also affected by the depression worsen education budgets were cut. It soon reached a point where many began to die of starvation(). This is when trickle down economics also known as supply side was viewed as a quick solution for this pending issue. Trickle down economics logic is like a three level pyramid with a few holes punctured at each status. The point of the pyramid would represent the wealthy business owners. The middle would represent the middle class. Lastly, the base would represent the third class or poor. Taxes would be cut from the first class in order for them to obtain more money. This is important because it was believed if the rich had more money they would use it to benefit their businesses. Then they would have enough money to hire employees. which would give employees money and that money that employees received could go to them and their families to purchase goods they were in need of. This money would help other businesses as well. Overall this plan would ideally provide job opportunities, salaries, and consumption that would help pull the economy out of the wreak it was currently in. However many people opposed the trickle down economics plan. They believe it was set up to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. Even future president Franklin Roosevelt spoke out while he was governor of New York. In April of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Failure Of Appeasement Research Paper Failure of Appeasement was the main reason WW2 occurred. How far do you agree? The policy of appeasement was used between 1935 and 1939 by the League Of Nations towards Nazi Germany. It involved making concessions to Germany, allowing Hitler to do things such as Anschluss and invade the Sudetenland. Many historians, including Winston Churchill, critisied appeasement at the time. One way in which Appeasement failed and contributed to the outbreak of WW2 was that it encouraged Hitler to follow his expansionist policies (Lebensraum). This is shown by the risks Hitler was taking, hoping no repurcussions would occur. One example of this the remiliterisation of the Rhineland in March 1936 which, directly contradicting the terms laid out in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The league was designed to democratically complete its main aims; enocouraging disarmament and improving working conditions and upholding peace. The League failed in these aims and allowed powerful nations to gain unlawful global strongholds. One example of this was the italian invasion of Corfu in 1923, the League failed to enforce sanctions and allowed mussolini to demand compensation and an apology from greece. Mussolini could see the League was weak and later invaded abysinnia in 1935. The league, once again, failed to act and the world lost confidence in its ability to keep it safe. The nazi soviet pact was signed between germany and russia, agreeing to complete non aggression and the divison of poland. This meant Hitler could focus on the western front and gave him confidence in winning the war. This meant the likelyhood of war breaking out was massivly increased. Overall, I believe the faliure of appeasement isnt the main reason for the outbreak of the second world war because it bought Britain time to prepare for conflict. The failure of the League Of Nations to prevent expansionist foreign powers was to blame. It didnt enforce sanctions on Italy, Germany and Japan (as seen in the manchurian crisis) and allowed them to gain the confidence to begin the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper I plan to argue that although absolute affluence is an issue that should be addressed through spending money on luxury items such as technology, we are able to advance our education, which can ultimately lead to bringing the affluent and the impoverished together to create a world where povertydoes not have to exist at all. Singer argues we are responsible for the consequences of our actions, which means that frivolous spending on luxury items instead of using that money to benefit the people in absolute poverty has the consequence of someone in absolute poverty suffering or dying. This results in the frivolous spender being responsible for their death. Although the people in absolute affluence do not set out with the intent to murder, or even have the malice behind it, they still are considered morally responsible. The idea is the death could have been prevented with the monetary help from the luxury spender. Instead the luxury spender ignored their suffering, and thus the consequence is the luxury spender is in part to blame for their death. Singer brings up the argument against this belief. The absolute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the infamous Trayvon Martin case, in Florida alone, 26 children have been killed in Stand Your Ground cases. Since 2005, eighteen states have passed laws extending the right to self defense with no duty to retreat to any place a person has a legal right to be. Despite the implications that these laws may have for public safety, there has been little empirical investigation of their impact on crime and victimization. He was claimed to have used justifiable use of force though he was told not to follow Trayvon, and he was not suppose to have gun being the community watchman. Due to the conditions that triggered the shooting this induced major media coverage and the big topic being discussed at the time was using Stand Your Ground laws which allows individuals to use force, including lethal force, in self defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without having any duty to retreat first. Stand your Ground law states that a person may use deadly force in self defense without the duty to retreat when faced with a reasonable perceived threat. When Stand your Ground laws were advocated in Florida and other states, their proponents marketed them as a reestablishment of a natural right, arguing the duty to retreat has not always been a part of the common law . The historical context may be misleading, allowing self defense only when reasonably necessary, and a duty to retreat when attacked outside one s home. The National Rifle Association seek to influence the Stand your Ground Law as a away for people to protect themselves. Though opponents who were against this law worried it would encourage the use of deadly force. • 17. The Book Of The City Of Ladies INTRODUCTION Historically, women were thought of as inferior in physical strength, religious traditions, philosophical and have faced intense discrimination from a lack of legal rights and very little independence from their husbands and society at large. In many societies, women have long been viewed as less than fully human. Christine de Pizan in her book The Book of the City of Ladies 1405, wrote that the oppression of women is founded on irrational prejudice, pointing out numerous advances in society probably created by women. Under the end of the 19th century, women were excluded from taking part in voting and politics, certain public events, education and in many professions. By the late 19th century and the turn of the 20th century, witnessed strengthening of the women s movement both at the local and international level, leading to an increase in the public awareness of women s rights, women the world over were pushing for greater equality. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in the United States, and the Suffragettes led by the Pankhurts in England were among the first pioneers of the women s movement. This was a period of much activity as women organized themselves into public and high profile advocacy groups, campaigning for the right to vote and equality in economic and property rights. Aesthetic Considerations For Complete Denture Esthetic Considerations in Complete Denture Prepared by Meghetie Ketchedjian 201500949 Submitted to Dr. Maria Reslan Esthetic Considerations in complete denture What would an edentulous patient wish for other than restoring back his teeth, smile and beauty? Of course, when dealing with artificial teeth in complete dentures, many will be terrified of the idea of their future artificial appearance and will think restoring old natural appearance is impossible, but they have no idea that removable prosthodontics is the art branch of dentistry, and that it has in its dictionary what we call Denture esthetics: the cosmetic effect produced by a dental prosthesis which affects the desirable beauty, attractiveness, character, and dignity of the individual. Denture esthetics combines and blends science and art, therefore it does not have any set rules, but relies on the artistic view of the dentist, guided by his scientific knowledge. Since the days of Hippocrates in the 5th century BC, till recently, many concepts were presented for teeth selection and arrangement, each trying to add more natural aspect of an artificial dentition . During the 1936 Olympics, Hitler dialed down the anti Semitic propaganda due to international pressures, but in official Nazi sporting hand books it specifically targeted Jews and African American s as being physically inferior to the Aryan race as they lacked athletic ability. Also, Nazi theorists like Kurt Munch claimed that Jews and Blacks were feeble athletes and had never achieved any success in athletics. Although, African Americans and Jews did not voice their political beliefs they used their athletic skill and would have acquired praise from Coubertin because they directly challenged Hitler s ideology that non Aryan s were inferior.Jessie Owens, who was a famous African American sprinter, fought back against Hitler s racial stereotypes of Blacks by winning four gold medals ... Authors, Sherman Alexie and Leslie Marmon, expressed their view on Native American culture through poetry. The combination of Alexie s Evolution and Marmon s Where Mountain Lion Lay Down with Deer leads to similarities and differences. Although the two poems express similar themes, there is a contrasts between the two poems due to the tone of each piece and the literary elements employed. Due to the fact that both poems were written within twenty years of each other, each author conveys a similar message. In both poems, there is a sense of deprivation for the Native American identity. Alexie takes a more blunt approach on expressing this theme: ...when the last Indian has pawned everything but his heart, Buffalo Bill takes that for twenty bucks... (Lines 11 12). Again, before we proceed with an example involving this time forward contract, we should define what a forward contract is and how it is used in financial markets. Futures contracts are contractual agreement to buy or sell a particular commodity or financial asset at a predetermined price in the future. The contract usually details the quantity and quality of the underlying asset to be delivered in the future. Suppose now that we want to find the VaR of a six month dollar to euro forward contract. We compute the VaR going through the following four steps: We first map the standardized market risks and instruments underlying this security. Second, we determine the position needed to be taken in the standardized instruments. We then estimate the variances and covariance of these instruments and we finally compute the VaR in the forward contract. Step 1: Again, we are looking forward to map the standardized market risks and the instruments underlying this security. The market variables that affect the six month forward contract are the six month risk free rate in each currency (dollar and euro) and the spot exchange rate. We hence match up the previous market factors respectively to a six month zero coupon dollar bond, a six month zero coupon euro bond and the spot dollar to euro. Step2: ... The ideology that I think has created the most success for the government and its people is democracy. With an increasing amount of non English speakers entering the country each year, the population of students who speak English as a second languageor no English at all increases as well. Not only are these students entering with knowledge of another language but they also enter with the history of another culture. These students are taught and raised to love their traditional languages and cultures. To take these aspects away from them in order to make them understand our way of life is not fair nor is it educationally beneficial. Some say foreigners need to assimilate because they are entering our country and by trying to accommodate their tradition, schools will end up hurting American students educational progress. This is not found to be true in as many cases as one would think though. By incorporating home or second language and diverse cultural exploration in combination with Standard English and American culture into the classroom, all students will benefit in multiple areas of learning and life.
