Analysis Of Teenage Drivers
We has humans are prone to accidents. Because of this, you often see news articles consisting of fatal
and devastating crashes, of which are most oftenly new teen drivers. As such, there is extra
precautions taken by the government or the school you might go to to help prevent these crashes from
happening. In the article Teen Drivers the writer discusses many points on why these bizarre accidents
are in fact worse than they appear to be. As a result of reading the article, my views on teenage driving
have been confirmed.
Following the writer explains how teens driving is prone to accidents while driving with friends. As
Brian O Neill of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states, Put one teenager in a car, and you
may have a decent driver...Put four teenagers in a car, and you have a prescription for immature,
irresponsible behavior (Holt). This is a fact, have you ever been in a crowded car in which everyone is
talking? Maybe you happened to be the driver you the driver? If not, it is not hard to imagine the
emotions that the driver must be dealing with as they have to focus 360 degrees around them: on the
road, on the lights, the cars around him/her, the marking on the road, pedestrians. Maybe they are also
inclined to state their input on the conversations in the car possibly having to fulfill the demands of
those passengers. Now, imagine that situation with a teenager who just go their license, it is scary, I
know; as The odds of having a serious accident

Utilization of Biodegradable Kitchen Wastes into Organic Fertilizer Using Earthworms * Abstract
One of the effective means to at least lessen the occurrence of our present garbage disposal problem is
through the use of methods that are non toxic, less expensive, less harmful, and yet equally effective.
This project aims to provide for a natural and effective way of disposing garbage.
During the experiment, kitchen wastes were collected. The materials were shredded and placed in
garbage bags with small holes. The temperature inside the bags was allowed to lower.
Three set ups were prepared and were covered with plastic. The first box contained pure carabao

Every living cell contains nitrogen and its abundance leads to green, succulent growth.
Phosphorous occurs in the protoplasm, with its great concentration in seeds thereby increasing their
production. Potassium influences the uptake of other elements and affects both respiration and
transpiration (Fitzpatrick, 1974). * Methodology
Kitchen wastes, composed mainly of vegetable and fruit peelings, were gathered, shredded, and placed
in garbage bags with small holes. Temperature build up inside the bags due to partial decomposition
was measured and allowed to lower down for one month until three consecutive declining of
temperature were achieved.
Three set ups measuring 15 x 8 inches were prepared and were covered with plastic. One box
contained pure carabao manure, the other box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent
processed kitchen wastes and the last box contained pure processed kitchen waste. About one hundred
pieces of Lumbricus terrestris were placed in each set up. The boxes were placed in a lighted area to
prevent the worms from escaping Since worms are known to be light sensitive. The set ups were
checked daily and watered to keep moisture. Upon consumption of the contents of the boxes, as
evidenced by the appearance of brown granular structures, the set ups were spread on newspapers
under the sunlight. The Lumbricus terrestris were gathered. The resultant product, called earthworm
castings, were then sun dried and passed

Three Perspectives On Social Support
There are various social support approaches from which to draw from, for the purpose of this paper, I
will adopt and briefly introduce the three social support perspectives on social support research
outlined by Lakey and Cohen (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000, p. 29). The three perspectives on
social support are the (a) stress and coping perspective, (b) the social constructionist perspective and
(b) the relationship perspective (Lakey Cohen, 2000). The first perspective suggests that social support
acts as a buffer for the effect of stress (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The second proposes that
our health is influenced by confidence in oneself, which is a consequent of social support (Cohen,
Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The third perspective however focuses on the foundations of
relationships built within social support systems and how the relationships are also considered to have
an effect on health (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Applying theory and understanding to social support is significant however; it is a broad concept
which may limit our understanding of psychological stress. An examination of peer support will

In The Mood For Love Essay
What is the ultimate form of a tragic love? For Wong, it is neither denial nor acceptance, but an eternal
state of longing and waiting. Among Wong Kar Wei s internationally acclaimed productions, Days of
Being Wilde (1990), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004) are loosely counted as a trilogy of
love. In the end chapter of his trilogy 2046, Wong continues to focus on Chou Mu Yun, a sentimental
yet callous writer and womanizer. Revolving around the affairs of Chou, 2046 presents to its audience
three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in happiness, to move on after the denial from
the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love in perpetuity. Chou is undoubtedly chosen to be
the bearer of the last pathway. As the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as
postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in
narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with several
postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative organization to
postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet. (p17, Mazierska and
Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In Wong Kar wai that Wong
s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of denying his Hong Kong identity
and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson
discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence and future in 2046 as the manifestation of
Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to the notion that virtual and the real intermingles
in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates that the sense of resisting the advancement of time
correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as longing for the present. (Teo, p358) Although it is
evident that every production of Wong concerns the subject of love, few theorists have been found so
far who posit Wong s interpretation of love in a post modernistic framework. The one who got closest

Othello Tragic Hero
Tragedy is characterized as a drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or
suffer sorrow, especially as a result of tragic flaw. This tragedy is innate to the main character. The
tragic hero must be honorable, having a high stature than most men, must have a tragic flaw and this
flaw must play as essential part in his defeat. In William Shakespeare s Othello, Othello is a tragic
hero. Othello is a honorable man and a general in Cyprus. He has several people under his command.
Cassio is his lieutenant and Iago is his ancient. Othello s tragic flaw is gullibility. Othello trust Iago s
words and he doesn t pay consideration on anyone around him. As the play proceeds, Iago continually

Othello was first performed by the King s Men at the court of King James 1 on November 1,
1604.Shakespeare borrowed freely from other sources for his plays. It is the manner in which he traces
his character which transforms his sources so exquisitely. His concept of tragedy is partly Greek and
partly his hero through the arousing of pity and fear. The Greek concept of a tragic hero is a noble
character suffering for no fault of his own, due to a malevolent God. Though destiny plays a distinct
part in Shakespearean tragedies as well, the tragic catastrophe occurs due to a flaw in hero s character.
Othello is a tragic hero. However, the theme of the play revolves more around Iago than Othello. From
the very beginning, Othello is an outsider in the public arena. He is a Moor, an outsider and a black
man from North Africa and is consequently victimized in an all white society. However, his expertise
as a pioneer and a military general make him a reputed personality to the Venetian government. Before
all else, he is generally popular and loved among his solider and the population of Venice. There are
three characters specifically that despise him: Iago, Roderigo, and Brabantio. Each has his own
purpose behind despising Othello and each will play a role in his

Fundamental Analysis of Pharmaceutical Stocks
Fundamental Analysis
Fundamental analysis is a technique that attempts to determine a security s value by focusing on
underlying factors that affect a company s actual business and its future prospects. On a broader scope,
you can perform fundamental analysis on industries or the economy as a whole. The term simply
refers to the analysis of the economic well being of a financial entity as opposed to only its price
movements.
Fundamental analysis serves to answer questions, such as:
Is the company s revenue growing? * Is it actually making a profit? * Is it in a strong enough position
to beat out its competitors in the future? * Is it able to repay its debts? ... Show more content on

resolutions. The third resolution states, that woman is man s equal was intended to be so by the
Creator, and the highest good of the race demands that she be recognized as such. The ninth resolution

Theme Of Symbolism In Heart Of Darkness
What are the symbols used in the novel The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad?
In 1885 to 1960 Belgian colonized the Congo and people and the resources are being exploited by the
colonizer. In the novel Heart of Darkness Conrad use various symbols to explore the theme or to show
the concept of the novel. The author use various symbols in the novel from which there are several
symbols which represent the theme and the concept of the novel. The symbols which helped to
explore the theme of the novel are colonization by the European country to African people, ivory
which made the Native people slave and the moral degradation of the women in the country.
The theme colonization was portrayed by the symbol Darkness where the title of the novel itself tells
the Heart of Darkness , according to Odak darkness places for the thoughts those are evil, insanity and
corruption. Marlow travels to the Congo as a captain of the boat without knowing anything about the

Nutrition during pregnancy is extremely important during fetal growth and development
Micronutrients are necessary for normal growth and development of the fetus and deficiencies have
been found to be associated with fetal growth retardation and small for gestational age infants (9).
Even some animal models have shown that micronutrient deficiencies during pregnancy can
potentially increase adiposity to the offspring at birth (9).

Epigenetic changes may last throughout all cell divisions for the remainder of the cell s life and for

Maternal health and nutrition doesn t stop at the mom
The fetus depends entirely on the mother for the supply of multiple nutrients during the pregnancy
(10).
Maternal health begins encoding and programing the fetus s DNA.
The genes passed from mother to father to child are like a loaded gun and what happens during the
life, including fetal life, instructs to which bullets are fired
Some studies have linked maternal nutrition exposures during pregnancy and later disease risk in
infants with a wide range of birth weights, not just low birth weights (4). Low birth weight or early
gestational age are two of the most common adverse outcomes of negative maternal health. Infants
born low birth weight or preterm are at much higher risk of dying within the first year of life when
compared to larger and older newborns (4). Negative health affects do not just stop after the first year
of life, preterm and low birth weight babies are at a higher risk of developing a large variety of
conditions later in life as well.
Infants born preterm are at greater risk than other infants of death, neurological problems reflected
later in low IQ scores, congenital malformations, and chronic health problems such as cerebral palsy.

The Jew Of Malta Essay
The Jew of Malta is a rich with religious themes. From the biblical references in the naming of the
characters, to the conflict of the play being entirely religiously motivated. The Jew of Malta reads like
a religious history book; Catholics against Jews, Muslims against Catholics, and Jews against pretty
much everyone. And although something feels off about reading that many anti Semitic stereotypes in
one place, the work makes sure to criticize every group present in its pages, including the Christians.
Protestants are completely absent from this narrative so it could be argued that Marlowe was going for
a pro protestant message by pointing out the hypocrisy and corruption present in the other three major
Abrahamic religions of Europe. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critic Sara M. Deets analyzed the relevance of The Jew of Malta s rampant biblical references,
pointing out that Barabas serves as a mockery of many major characters from Job to the Antichrist.
Deets explains, On Marlowe s great stage of fools and knaves, the protean Jew plays many parts,
becoming alternately a mock Christ, a mock Job, a mock Abraham, and a mock Isaac (Deets 28). Yet
Barabas is very far from a biblical success story, so this observation only strengthens the argument
that Marlowe is seeking to reject religion for its short comings and promote a more enlightened world
view. Deets further explains Barabas function as a Biblical parody, Barabas continues his mock
imitation of Christ: he is betrayed by his supposed heir and leading disciple Ithamore; he is
apprehended and condemned to death by the establishment; he undergoes a sham death and a bogus
resurrection like everything in Barabas life, a purely physical rather than a spiritual ordeal (Deets 31).
This profound parallel with biblical Christ is what leads to the conclusion that The Jew of Malta
serves more as a criticism of religion in general than anything else. The members of the religion are
being criticized, but the ideology itself is also being

Abstract This case study is about analyzing the Whistler Corporation business issues. The Whistler

the company should continue manufacturing operations in the US or not. The company had experience

In 1986, the companies profit started to decrease drastically. The Whistler corp. loss more than
$500,000 per month. It was the time to do something radical to recover the company and to turn it
back to the top of the market.
In that period Charles Stott was on the head of Whistler corp. To save the companies future he put in
action three alternatives. Firstly, he focused on the the whole reconstruction of the biggest problem in
company, the production process, such as control of inventory process, but many other things had to
be reconstructed in order to achieve these goals such as new inventory process, products with the
bigger quality, better functionality of processing, and usage of the plant had to be more organized.
Secondly, the company would have to hire an affordable supplier of their radar detectors, which will
improve the relationship with company and external suppliers, usage of the both plants and lower
price. The third alternative and the last one was closing the doors of both plant, and making a big
change on the production district by moving the whole production process to an off shore location,
that would not be easy to apply, but it would crucially decrease the cost of production process. The
issues with the market competition, and foreign suppliers, in this case east Asia market didn t only
reflected only on the Whistler Corporation, it reflected on many other companies in manufacturing
market, they also had issues and had to

Rousseau and Golding are both philosophers and are both known for different similar topics.
Rousseau is known for his first book, A Discourse on the Sciences and Arts, about his philosophies

Throughout the first act of the film, just by being introduced to Sarah s family the audience can see
that Sarah is a stubborn and selfish character. However, as Sarah is first implied as being elaborate and
mean we also see Sarah s considerate side come out as she begs the Goblin King to give Toby back to
her.
The first character from the labyrinth Sarah is introduced to is the Goblin King Jareth himself, who is
the antagonist in the film. Jareth takes Toby as he believes this is what Sarah wants.
Throughout the film we see that Sarah is drawn to the character of Jareth, however she also shows
annoyance towards the character. We see she initially has an connection to Jareth at the start of the
film as she s reading the book. Jareth gives Sarah the opportunity to grow courage and heroic
characteristics throughout the film. He does this by taunting her. We see that Sarah s character develop
as she gains courage and becomes heroic in the last act when she defeated Jareth. Jareth says at the

Without properly cleaning, transforming and structuring the data prior to the analysis, one cannot
expect to find meaningful knowledge. In a KDD process, the preprocessing step represents at least
60% of the entire process for about two thirds of the Data Mining experts responding to the survey .
Very often, the WUM methods just translate the logs into the proper input format for the DM
algorithm. However, this would negatively affect the entire process. As an example, let us consider the
following hypothetic situation: a Web access log with two requests one for http://website/A/page.htm
and another one for http://website/ A/B/C/../../page.htm. The two requests are in fact for the same
resource ( ../ is interpreted as the parent folder), but they would be treated as two distinct URLs, by
most of the translation tools. Therefore, the first problem we aimed to solve was the lack of a complete
methodology for preprocessing in WUM.

Realism And Mary Gaitskill s Six Motives For Creative Writing
When interpreting art, there are many questions that can be asked. Who made the art? What was their
inspiration? Is this true art? The list of questions go on and on. But, there is really no wrong question.
It all depends on your perspective and curiosity. Perspective is something that everyone has; it shows
the way that their brain thinks and it also shows opinions. In my perspective, the most important
question is why make art? Unit 1: Why Make Art was a great thing to start off with. The unit not only
gave us knowledge to walk away with, but we learned many of the reasons of why people do make art.
I learned why Realists and Romantics make art, how and why the use of machines is making art, and
Mary Gaitskill s six motives for creative writing.
The Realist and Romantic Era was very different from each other, but at the same time, they attributed
similar characteristics and traits. When we were in class discussing the movie we watched on realism,
I noticed that realists were usually black and white. They painted to show what the real world was
like. The artists objective was not to make you lust for what everyday people already have. The
realists showed true emotions. They showed what it was like to be a working man, stay at home mom,
Realism showed war and so much more. The point of making art was to show reality and the truth of
human nature. The name itself is self explanatory; Realism. I am a realistic person, however, I am not
strictly black and white biased. The

state a curse from nature itself all caused by disrupted sleep. Not only is his crime evident in the order
of the universe, but also with his internal order.
The killing of Duncan leads to a very bizarre switch in roles within nature. A falcon, tow ring in her
pride of place,/Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed, (2.4.13 14). This reversal brings
discomfort, since even the animal kingdom is starting to be affected by the unravelling of chaos. An
even worse example, King Duncan s horses, Beauteous and swift, the minions of their race,/Turn d
wild in nature, broke their stalls, flung out,/War with mankind. (2.4.15 16,18). There is nothing a king
trusts more than his valiant steed, and similarly both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were trusted vassals
of King Duncan, who was oblivious of their traitorous nature. However, even the most trusty steed can
turn his back on his master upon smelling the faintest scent of fear. Thus, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
s thirst for power filled to the extent where they were willing to overthrow their master.

Oxidative Stress Key Research Data and Analysis
Key Research Data and Analysis Study 1: Ipc1 controls the Pkc1 activation by modulation of DAG
Regulation of DAG and phytoceramide by Ipc1. When Wild type and GAL7::IPC1 strains were
exposed to galactose and glucose, DAG (activator of PKC1) levels in the GAL7::IPC1 strain increased
when IPC1 was induced by galactose, and decreased when IPC1 was repressed by glucose.
Furthermore, phytoceramide levels were increased when IPC1 was down regulated by glucose in the
GAL7::IPC1 strain. In both wild type strains, no change was seen when IPC1 was up or down
regulated, as expected (Fig. 2). PKC1 activity in relation to DAG and Phytoceramide exposure. Since
IPC1 regulates DAG and phytoceramide levels, the authors wanted to explore if DAG or
phytoceramide can control PKC1 activity. DAG or phytoceramide were delivered in Triton x 100 lipid
micelles and histone phosphorylation by recombinant PKC1 was measured in absence or presence of
lipids. Without lipids, Pkc1 activity was 31.5 pmol/min/mg. When DAG subspecies were added, Pkc1
activity increased up to two fold (Fig. 3A). In order to make sure kinase activity measured was
specific to Pkc1, APP1 activity was measured when exposed to DAG subspecies and as expected, did
not cause phosphorylation of histone, which was expected (Fig. 3B). When phytoceramide lipids were
added, Pkc1 activity decreased by about 50% compared to no phytoceramide, which was expected
because phtyoceramide is an inhibitor of Pkc1 (Fig. 3C). Study 2:

Sustainability For New And Existing Hospitality Assets
The concept of sustainability has gained momentum in recent years within the global investment
community resulting in significant financial implications for new and existing hospitality assets.
As we outline in this journal, the roots of environmentalism and sustainability in the hospitality sector
became evident over half a century ago, when a few enterprising hoteliers realized they could provide
an enhanced guest experience by integrating natural elements into the resort experience. In the years
that followed, factors such as increasing regulation and rising utility costs encouraged hotel owners
and managers to adopt a number of environmental best practices. We have observed a remarkable shift
in investor sentiment in recent times, as evidenced by the establishment of numerous corporate social
responsibility (CSR) programs, as well as the prevalence of green building programs for new
development projects.
The past several decades have seen a growing awareness amongst hoteliers and investors regarding
the environmental and social impacts of hotel development and operations to the extent where
sustainability issues have permeated nearly every aspect of the hospitality industry. This has been
driven by multiple factors including owners and operators desires to reduce operational costs,
changing investor attitudes toward the environment (and the coinciding emergence of corporate social
responsibility programs), increased regulatory focus on facility operations and

Air Pollution essay
Air pollution has become a major problem in the United States. The agricultural industry must help
maintain air quality. By doing that the United States has started trying to make machines that will help
reduce the pollution in the air which will help the environment. One way the United States has tried
stopping air pollution and that is to create a solar powered machine which decreases air pollution. But
also there are some ways that the people of the United States can help stop air pollution.
Air pollution affects the health of people in a major way. The presence of carbon monoxide in the air
we breathe causes headache nausea and suffocation. Tuberculosis, bronchitis and asthma are common
in our country due to poor air quality. Dust in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When growing plants the Plants can reduce the air pollution by producing the oxygen which is very
important for human life to breathe.
Another solution is that the United States should limit factories how much they should make a year
because less smoke means less pollution. Also that would be sort of a bad thing but if we had less
pollution we would have more air. Such as recycling and reusing things like plastic bags so we don t
waste the plastic items. Doing the recycling go green way will help in getting the environment in a
better place. Another thing that will help the environment get different type of gas for cars that is
harmless to the environment.
But some ways that we can help the environment are to sometimes ride a bike instead of a car. Doing
that will do well for the environment and you because you are getting a good workout. But a substance
in the air that can be harmful to humans and the environment is known as an air pollutant. Air
pollutants are the gases such as carbon dioxides. Which mainly come from factories and cars.
Air pollution can be spread volcanic eruptions which send sulfur dioxide, tons of ash, and soot into the
air which mixes with water vapor to form acid rain. Dirt particles can also be carried to the
atmosphere during wind erosion. This happens in areas with less vegetation where soil cannot be held
together. Such as on islands for an example Hawaii.
People get exposed to air pollution not just outdoors. Even in

Z For Zachariah Character Analysis
One who may be viewed as evil is someone who enjoys hurting others and may not think about the
consequences their actions towards someone or something may do to harm or affect the people around
them. Through the book Z for Zachariah written by Robert O Brien one of the two main characters Mr
Loomis some may consider as evil. The other main character is young female called Ann who lives on
her own until Mr Loomis entered the valley. Through the book, Mr Loomis has proven to be evil
firstly because he had attempted to shoot Ann while she was doing him a favour because he had driven

Because Mr Loomis was continuing to get his energy back from being so sick from the toxic lake out
of kindness Ann continued to come back to the house and look after the garden and animals as Mr
Loomis was unable to. Each day Ann would collect the eggs, milk and many vegetables, she would
always give half to Mr Loomis and keep half for herself. On Top of this kind action after all the hard
work of working in the garden, she would walk up to the abandoned store and get anything she
believed Mr Loomis would need for cooking as he now had to cook his own meals. She would never
disturb Mr Loomis so she would always place all her findings from the garden and the store on the
front doorstep. Not only was this hard work for Ann but it also was stressful as she always had the
feeling like Mr Loomis was watching her through the kitchen window as she worked. One day on her
way to work in the garden Mr Loomis had shot her just as she was crossing to come and do him a
favour, he only had hit her leg not killing her but did cause an enormous amount of pain. Both the
reader and Ann was confused about why he had only shot her leg, not knowing his level of skill with a
gun it could ve been by accident and was meaning to kill her, an alternative was that he was only
attempting to injure her in that he had succeeded. This is an example of evilness because he was

How Youth Workers Can Help With The Issue Of Young Offenders
This essay will examine how youth workers can help with the issue of young offenders, with the use
of relevant policies along with historical and current context to show how. It will also point out key
policies and legislative frameworks linked to young offenders and how these policies promote social
justice and equality.
The term young offender refers to a person (male or female between the ages of 10 17) who has been
convicted of or cautioned about a criminal offence. The term young offender is often used because the
criminal justice system deals with young people who offend in a different way to adults who offend
(ACS Distance Education 2011). Crime is a widespread issue in society and criminal activities are
beginning to get worse. Along with that a lot of young people are now getting involved in criminal
activities. Statistics show that there were over 47,000 criminals between the ages of 16 21 committing
crimes (Whitehead 2014). There are many reason why young people choose to commit crimes, these
would include problems at home, peer pressure, boredom, poverty etc. it was found that poverty is one
of the main reasons that young people turn to crime due to job cuts and other factors (Association of
Chief Officers of Probation 1993). A report was carried out in Southmead and it showed that young
people were the only group that were identified as criminals (Brent 2006:26). The main conflict
between adults and young people seems to be based around behaviour in public.

New Media Art With Its Intrinsic Characteristics
Crowdsourced Documentation New media art with its intrinsic characteristics (instability and
variability)[1] poses complex challenges in documentation, this observation is not new, and initiatives
such as DOCAM[2] and Variable Media Network[3] have provided methods and tools to properly

presents new challenges for established documentation methods and standards. This essay aims to
address this subject by referencing recent exhibition and art practice frequently involve public

Great Expectations Manipulation
Some people spend their whole life trying to accomplish a particular something. It might be an
achievement or just simply trying to be perfect, but what actually define us as a person and the true
value of our lives? How can we possibly know if the life we are living now will be worthy in the end
and we will not regret anything when we look back onto it? In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens,
he states that life would not be as gratifying if one s life is filled with manipulation and comparison,
instead one must self seek and enhance himself/herself in every aspect throughout the course of life.
In the first part of Dickens novel, all I can deduce from Joe, Pip s brother in law, is the fact that he

pointless to live, as one cannot appreciate the goodness in life. No doubt education plays a crucial role
in creating a success life, however do not let those standards conceal who you truly are or alter your

you successfully seek your own self and find your own purpose in life by improving a little bit each

The authors concluded that while increasing gastroenterology capacity is important (i.e., capital and
funding availability, plus searching the local labor market for gastroenterology physicians, nurses, and
physician assistants), it may not be as beneficial as redirecting the focus on healthcare system process
changes. Access limitations may be due to suboptimal management of current capacity rather than
inadequate levels of capacity (Powell et al., 2009). As the largest healthcare system in the world, the
VHA cannot rely solely on hiring and training more gastroenterology staff when process management
is also in urgent need of simultaneous, coordinated improvement. As a response to this colossal
demand to expand gastroenterology trained and credentialed providers to perform colonoscopy, a
small number of VHA facilities and gastroenterology departments sought new and innovative ways to
build provider and space capacity to mitigate this challenging, unmet need. Dr. Jason Dominitz,
National Program Director for Gastroenterology Patient Care Services, reported there are at least a
half dozen or more credentialed nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) performing
colonoscopy at various VHA facilities. The non physician endoscopists have collectively provided

Bartleby, The Scrivener, By Herman Melville
In short, Herman Melville s story Bartleby, the scrivener , tells the tale of a successful lawyer hiring a
new copyist and the challenges he faced with his new hire. Initially, the new hire, Bartleby, was
extremely driven and very efficient. He had a great work ethic, and had an extraordinary output of
writing for the head lawyer. On the third day Bartleby stunned his boss by preferring not to comply
with his boss s request. Bartleby s refusal to comply was at first directed at anything outside of his
copyist responsibilities, but gradually shifted toward refusing to do anything including his
responsibilities as a copyist. Upon further analysis into Bartleby s descent from a productive scrivener,
to utterly useless in the office. I have found a connection between the people that isolate others
because of differences, and the people that choose to stray away from normal behavior . This impacts
the isolated person, people are negatively impacted when they live in isolation and have little personal
and emotional connection with others. Without any emotional connection or contact with others,
humans lose their purpose in life, or become useless like in Bartleby in the office. Refusing to do any
work did not deter Bartleby from the office. In fact, he used the office for everything in his life such as
sleep, shaving, eating and spending all of his time. Bartleby lived in the office in complete isolation
from anyone else in the world besides his coworkers. With seemingly no

What Is The Purpose Of The Seven Samurai
Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai (1954) is not only a great film in its own right, but the source of
a genre that would flow through the rest of the century. The critic Michael Jeck suggests that this was
the first film in which a team is assembled to carry out a mission an idea which gave birth to its direct
Hollywood remake, The Magnificent Seven, as well as The Guns of Navarone. The Dirty Dozen, and
countless later war, heist and caper movies. Since Kurosawa s samurai adventure Yojimbo (1960) was
remade as A Fistful of Dollars and essentially created the spaghetti Western, and since this movie and
Kurosawa s The Hidden Fortress inspired George Lucas Star Wars series, it could be argued that this
greatest of filmmakers gave employment to action heroes for the next 50 years, just as a fallout from
his primary purpose.
That purpose was to make a samurai movie that was anchored in ancient Japanese culture, and yet
argued for a flexible humanism in place of rigid traditions. One of the central truths of The Seven
Samurai is that the samurai and the villagers who hire them are of different castes, and must never
mix. Indeed, we learn that these villagers had earlier been hostile to samurai and one of them, even
now, hysterically fears that a samurai will make off with his daughter. Yet the bandits represent a
greater threat, and so the samurai are hired, valued and resented in about equal measure.
Why do they take the job? Why, for a handful of rice

The Learning And Teaching Strategies
Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few
learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly
discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the
brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of
the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique
occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being
treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and
perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next,
perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand
positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy
that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of
information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words
stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case
of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing
technique. The final relevant strategy from the text is that if interleaving, a cognitive science

The war lasted six months, three weeks and five days. However, Operation Desert Storm officially
ended on 30 November 1995. The war took place in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Israel. The initial
conflict was to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait. This conflict was between Iraq and a Coalition Force
of 34 nations, which was mandated by the United Nations and led by the United States. The forces
that made up the allied coalition force of thirty nine countries. Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia,
Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece,

During this war in all areas, the weather varied, but slightly during the day and night. It was very hot
in these areas; high winds, low pressure, and winds at times as high as 25 knots but during the night as

Chinese Triads Research Paper
Threat: Chinese Triads pose threats to U.S. national security in relation to drug and human trafficking.
In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a large Chinese
population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these areas they are often
responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and
intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United States reached a peak
in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within the
Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads are
active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to U.S.
security and its interests.
Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the history
of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. The original Chinese Triad formed during the 17th century,
and wanted to overthrow the Qing dynasty and bring back the Ming dynasty. However, by the early

to see who can outsmart the other. In a case so tight, will the good guys finally prevail? Although the
chase seems never ending, and too complicated to solve, it makes for some great entertainment that
will keep us on our toes. With a movie so jampacked with excitement, it s hard to believe that people
still prefer the first film, The Silence of the Lambs. Despite the comparison, the director, Brett Ratner,
does a brilliant job of piecing the Red ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They say it s because The Silence of the Lambs was the first movie of the Hannibal Lecter series to be
aired. But how can we compare based on which one came out first? Although it may be the first, the
events that took place in The Silence of the Lambs theoretically happened after the Red Dragon, thus
making Red Dragon the prequel. The Silence of the Lambs stars Jodie Foster, who plays an F.B.I
agent in pursuit of yet another serial killer, and surprise surprise, seeks the help of Hannibal Lecter.
Sound familiar? Although both plots are practically the same, one slightly outshines the other. Red
Dragon does a good job of focusing on the details. Although Silence was the first film, it was never
mentioned how Hannibal Lecter was put behind bars. Red Dragon takes that focus and shows us
exactly how and whom was able to defeat the unstoppable murderer. There is also a big difference in
character development for the killers in both movies. In Silence, the killer is ruthless, but we don t get
to see how he became that way. However, in Red Dragon, the killer is unrelenting, but we get to see
his back story, and in the end we almost have sympathy for him. Both films are very well made
thrillers, but it doesn t mean that the first is better than the second. The film with fine tuned details and
a more likeable serial killer should come out on

Conference Chair For The Asian American Student Union
Conference Chair AASU As the conference chair for the Asian American Student Union, I
spearheaded a school wide conference on Asian American issues and advocacy. This conference
brought in speakers from across the United States, including members of the U.S. government, and
had over 100 participants. In addition, I led a group of twenty students to the East Coast Asian
American Student Union conference at Columbia University. I developed preparatory pre departure
workshops, handled scholarship distribution, and outlined travel logistics. As a member of the AASU
board, I had the opportunity to develop my own general body meeting on the topic of Asian American
portrayal in the media. My position as Conference Chair was my first large responsibility in college.
This position developed my interpersonal and team working skills; it also instilled the importance of
time management and organizational habits. Through the inspiration of my peers, I became committed
to bring creativity and innovation to all events that I planned. This position allowed me to explore my
passion of minority advocacy though the Asian/Asian American population and serve as a catalyst for
the promotion of education and awareness of Asian history and culture. Our greatest accomplishment
was the development and passing of the Asian American Studies Minor at the University of Florida.
Our first step was garnering support from the community through assembling a committee of students
and faculty, and created

Ford Hybrid Case Study
Paper # 2 Ford Hybrid
09/13/2012
Abstract
Which stages of the project life cycle are evident in the case study?
Did Martens select the right two project managers in Patil and Wright?
What are toughest challenges faced by the project manger during a high visability and high risk
project?
Would you like to have been involved with the Ford Escape Hybrid project?
Paper # 2: Ford Hybrid
The Ford Escape Hybrid program was the midterm step of the company s steps of sustainability. The
program was included in the company s long term plans for more than two decades. The program in
the past decade accelerated rapidly due to increased pressure from recently enhanced EPA regulations
for improved gas mileage and pollution standards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hybrid Project personnel Decisions The task of managing a project of the magnitude Martens was
assigned could either fail, succeed. The scope of the job contains extremely complex engineering feats
combined with a rigid timeline. The only path for success was to find a project manager well versed in
both aspects of the project. Instead Martens decided to split the responsibilities of the project with two
managers with different experience and subject matter expert qualities. Patil was brought his PhD
scientific experience to the table. While Wright brought the can do spark plug approach to the project.
The two will be instrumental in the projects outcome (Salter 2004).
Challenges
This type of project required an organized approach to working out side of the normal confines of
Ford s production models. The bench mark for success is not in comparison to other previous projects.
Large scale engineering designs had been implemented in the past, but never a machine with dual
means of propulsion. The company had already announced release of the Hybrid and the whole world
was waiting to see the outcome (Tierney 2005).
Member of the Team Having the opportunity to be part of a team steeped in innovative engineering
tradition would be an honor for anyone in the automotive production industry. The overall project
requires more than just strong management, designers, and engineers. The entire project requires

Religion In Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury tales collection by Geoffrey Chaucer presents varied characters that each one have to
tell a tale in their way to Canterbury, those characters belongs to different social, religious classes. In
the time of many religious social differences has happened, such as the raise of doubt towards
corrupted churches and religion in general, it could be noticed how Chaucer portrays the characters in
several different ways, there are the good heroine characters, the low class characters, the holly
religious characters, the corrupted greedy characters and so on. Through roaming in the Canterbury
tales collection, there were several tales were told by religious characters that have drawn my attention
to it, such as the Prioress s Tale and the second Nun s Tale. Both of these tales opened my eyes to
notice how Chaucer uses the concept of religion in an ambiguous way to serve his portrayed aim
behind each tale. Therefore, in this paper I tend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people; there are Jews, who are corrupted and are living for shaming proposes, for money and material
causes. By saying that there is a great city of Christian that contains Jews, the reader could notice the
racism toward Jews, in the linguistic way of telling the story; it is like the Jews are the black spot in

Why Is Socrates Wrong
Socrates is known as the father of Western philosophy . In his teachings, he encouraged people to
question life and not listen to what they were told. He inspired people to search for answers, and reject
popular beliefs. As a result, Socrates was brought to trial by the dikasts (male jurors) on two charges.
Socrates had three premises that all led to the conclusion of him not being innocent and the charges
being false.
First, Socrates defended himself against the charge of corrupting the youth in Athens. Socrates
explained that he would be also be harming himself if he was intentionally corrupting the youth.
Socrates was surrounding himself with people who would follow his beliefs, not people he was trying
to corrupt. In the bible it says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father was Sophroniscus who was a stone mason. Socrates learned from his father while receiving
a basic Greek education. After working for his father for a few years he pursued philosophy. Socrates s
married Xanthippe and they had three sons together. Socrates cared more about the youth of Athens s
than his own sons. This shows that Socrates was not devoted to his family, but cared about his
teachings. This also proves that Socrates was not committing a crime, but doing what he felt was his
calling.
It is impossible to claim that Socrates is guilty of the crimes he was charged with. Socrates did not act
intentionally. He thought he was doing what he was called to do and felt he was inspiring people to
think in a new way. His teachings go against the norm which many people did not agree with.
Socrates accepted his punishment of a death sentence (drinking hemlock) since he knew he died a
hero. He showed no remorse for his actions, but instead mocked the jurors after he was sentenced.
This shows that Socrates knew his punishment was a joke since he committed no crime. Socrates
believed, even before he died that he did the right thing by speaking out against the authority. Plato
said, Such was the end of our friend, a man, I think, who was the wisest and justest, and the best man I

Midnight Without A Moon Analysis
Introduction
People often take for granted their right to vote. During civil rights African American men had a hard
time registering to vote and women all woman had no voting rights. In the historical fiction novel,
Midnight Without a Moon by Linda Williams Jackson, the main character Rose Lee Carter is affected
by black people being shot for registering to vote. One person that was shot was a person named Levi
Jackson who worked on her grandparents farm. African American men had a hard time registering to
vote unlike white men in the civil rights era. In the story author altered and used history to add drama
and show people what used to happen when African American men registered to vote or helped others
register to vote.
Body Paragraph 1 Summary from the Book (Connected to Major Historical Event)

college. Except Levi would never again set foot in a college, thanks to the fool who put a bullet in his
head. (p.83) Then there were more murders because people were registering to vote and people where

Re: CPA Report
Below I have summarized an explanation to the questions that came about during your examination of
a subsidiary that has been set up as a corporation.
The methodology used to determine deferred taxes.
The deferred taxes reported are a temporary difference. The deferred taxes were calculated based on
what needed to be reported versus what has been posted to the corporations books. The temporary
difference is the difference between the tax basis of an asset or liability and its reported (carrying or
book) amount in the financial statements, which will result in taxable amounts or deductible amounts
in future years (Kieso, el. 2007, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The corporation and stockholders have the tax burden in a corporation. In whole, from the owners
point of view, it is more sensible to form a corporation that has a little more flexibility and less
liability versus a partnership or sole proprietorship.

The Basic Level For A Good Programmer
Abstract of the Project: The compilers are the softwares which translates the computer language
(source code) into a language more basic to the machine level. The languages such as C, C++, etc are
some famous compilers. In this project, the main concept was about the understanding of compilers
but the best way to explain was with the help of famous and easy Object Oriented Programming
language C++.
The project gives the vivid and simple view of C++ from the most basic level to the required high
level for a good programmer. The project can be treated as a book on C++ in simple language by the
student for the student. The project later on comprises of topics from the basic level Identifiers and
keywords, Data types, operators and types of operators then to an upper level Operator Overloading,
Polymorphism, Inheritance, Encapsulation, Constructors and Destructors, Inline functions, etc. All the
topics are discussed precisely and in simple language with suitable examples.
1. Introduction:
A compiler is a computer program that translates a computer program written in one computer
language (source language) into an equivalent program written in another computer language (target
language). Interpreter is similar to compiler but interpreter compiles line by line while compiler
compiles as a whole. Examples: C, C++, BASIC, COBAL, etc. The C programming language has
been used for last few decades for almost all the applications. Recently, the C++ with Object Oriented

Beowulf Versus Batman
Beowulf vs Batman Beowulf was the first superhuman ever to be written about; he s basically the
great grand father of all modern day fictional heroes. But does that mean that all heroes are modeled
exactly like Beowulf? Well, let s take a look at Batman whose known by every kid and adult out there.
He like Beowulf had years of rigorous training in order to become too strong muscular hero that we
see; and that is where they split apart Beowulf s and Batman s back stories are as different as their
personalities. In the end though everyone comes to the point where they realize that they aren t as
young as they used to be and with their line of work it can come quick and fast. So as they re final act
they name a successor to protect the people in their charge. These heroes both protect people but they
do it it for different reasons entirely.

  • 2. Analysis Of Teenage Drivers We has humans are prone to accidents. Because of this, you often see news articles consisting of fatal and devastating crashes, of which are most oftenly new teen drivers. As such, there is extra precautions taken by the government or the school you might go to to help prevent these crashes from happening. In the article Teen Drivers the writer discusses many points on why these bizarre accidents are in fact worse than they appear to be. As a result of reading the article, my views on teenage driving have been confirmed. Following the writer explains how teens driving is prone to accidents while driving with friends. As Brian O Neill of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states, Put one teenager in a car, and you may have a decent driver...Put four teenagers in a car, and you have a prescription for immature, irresponsible behavior (Holt). This is a fact, have you ever been in a crowded car in which everyone is talking? Maybe you happened to be the driver you the driver? If not, it is not hard to imagine the emotions that the driver must be dealing with as they have to focus 360 degrees around them: on the road, on the lights, the cars around him/her, the marking on the road, pedestrians. Temperature build up inside the bags due to partial decomposition was measured and allowed to lower down for one month until three consecutive declining of temperature were achieved. Three set ups measuring 15 x 8 inches were prepared and were covered with plastic. One box contained pure carabao manure, the other box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent processed kitchen wastes and the last box contained pure processed kitchen waste. About one hundred pieces of Lumbricus terrestris were placed in each set up. The boxes were placed in a lighted area to prevent the worms from escaping Since worms are known to be light sensitive. • 4. Three Perspectives On Social Support There are various social support approaches from which to draw from, for the purpose of this paper, I will adopt and briefly introduce the three social support perspectives on social support research outlined by Lakey and Cohen (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000, p. 29). The three perspectives on social support are the (a) stress and coping perspective, (b) the social constructionist perspective and (b) the relationship perspective (Lakey Cohen, 2000). The first perspective suggests that social support acts as a buffer for the effect of stress (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The second proposes that our health is influenced by confidence in oneself, which is a consequent of social support (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). The third perspective however focuses on the foundations of relationships built within social support systems and how the relationships are also considered to have an effect on health (Cohen, Underwood Gottlieb, 2000). ... Among Wong Kar Wei s internationally acclaimed productions, Days of Being Wilde (1990), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004) are loosely counted as a trilogy of love. In the end chapter of his trilogy 2046, Wong continues to focus on Chou Mu Yun, a sentimental yet callous writer and womanizer. Revolving around the affairs of Chou, 2046 presents to its audience three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in happiness, to move on after the denial from the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love in perpetuity. Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with several postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative organization to postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet. (p17, Mazierska and Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In Wong Kar wai that Wong s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of denying his Hong Kong identity and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence and future in 2046 as the manifestation of Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to the notion that virtual and the real intermingles in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates that the sense of resisting the advancement of time correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as longing for the present. Deets explains, On Marlowe s great stage of fools and knaves, the protean Jew plays many parts, becoming alternately a mock Christ, a mock Job, a mock Abraham, and a mock Isaac (Deets 28). Yet Barabas is very far from a biblical success story, so this observation only strengthens the argument that Marlowe is seeking to reject religion for its short comings and promote a more enlightened world view. Deets further explains Barabas function as a Biblical parody, Barabas continues his mock imitation of Christ: he is betrayed by his supposed heir and leading disciple Ithamore; he is apprehended and condemned to death by the establishment; he undergoes a sham death and a bogus resurrection like everything in Barabas life, a purely physical rather than a spiritual ordeal (Deets 31). When Wild type and GAL7::IPC1 strains were exposed to galactose and glucose, DAG (activator of PKC1) levels in the GAL7::IPC1 strain increased when IPC1 was induced by galactose, and decreased when IPC1 was repressed by glucose. Furthermore, phytoceramide levels were increased when IPC1 was down regulated by glucose in the GAL7::IPC1 strain. In both wild type strains, no change was seen when IPC1 was up or down regulated, as expected (Fig. 2). PKC1 activity in relation to DAG and Phytoceramide exposure. Since IPC1 regulates DAG and phytoceramide levels, the authors wanted to explore if DAG or phytoceramide can control PKC1 activity. DAG or phytoceramide were delivered in Triton x 100 lipid micelles and histone phosphorylation by recombinant PKC1 was measured in absence or presence of lipids. Without lipids, Pkc1 activity was 31.5 pmol/min/mg. When DAG subspecies were added, Pkc1 activity increased up to two fold (Fig. 3A). In order to make sure kinase activity measured was specific to Pkc1, APP1 activity was measured when exposed to DAG subspecies and as expected, did not cause phosphorylation of histone, which was expected (Fig. 3B). Sustainability For New And Existing Hospitality Assets The concept of sustainability has gained momentum in recent years within the global investment community resulting in significant financial implications for new and existing hospitality assets. As we outline in this journal, the roots of environmentalism and sustainability in the hospitality sector became evident over half a century ago, when a few enterprising hoteliers realized they could provide an enhanced guest experience by integrating natural elements into the resort experience. In the years that followed, factors such as increasing regulation and rising utility costs encouraged hotel owners and managers to adopt a number of environmental best practices. We have observed a remarkable shift in investor sentiment in recent times, as evidenced by the establishment of numerous corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, as well as the prevalence of green building programs for new development projects. The past several decades have seen a growing awareness amongst hoteliers and investors regarding the environmental and social impacts of hotel development and operations to the extent where sustainability issues have permeated nearly every aspect of the hospitality industry. On Top of this kind action after all the hard work of working in the garden, she would walk up to the abandoned store and get anything she believed Mr Loomis would need for cooking as he now had to cook his own meals. She would never disturb Mr Loomis so she would always place all her findings from the garden and the store on the front doorstep. Not only was this hard work for Ann but it also was stressful as she always had the feeling like Mr Loomis was watching her through the kitchen window as she worked. One day on her way to work in the garden Mr Loomis had shot her just as she was crossing to come and do him a favour, he only had hit her leg not killing her but did cause an enormous amount of pain. Both the reader and Ann was confused about why he had only shot her leg, not knowing his level of skill with a gun it could ve been by accident and was meaning to kill her, an alternative was that he was only attempting to injure her in that he had succeeded. How Youth Workers Can Help With The Issue Of Young Offenders This essay will examine how youth workers can help with the issue of young offenders, with the use of relevant policies along with historical and current context to show how. It will also point out key policies and legislative frameworks linked to young offenders and how these policies promote social justice and equality. The term young offender refers to a person (male or female between the ages of 10 17) who has been convicted of or cautioned about a criminal offence. The term young offender is often used because the criminal justice system deals with young people who offend in a different way to adults who offend (ACS Distance Education 2011). Crime is a widespread issue in society and criminal activities are beginning to get worse. Along with that a lot of young people are now getting involved in criminal activities. Statistics show that there were over 47,000 criminals between the ages of 16 21 committing crimes (Whitehead 2014). There are many reason why young people choose to commit crimes, these would include problems at home, peer pressure, boredom, poverty etc. it was found that poverty is one of the main reasons that young people turn to crime due to job cuts and other factors (Association of Chief Officers of Probation 1993). A report was carried out in Southmead and it showed that young people were the only group that were identified as criminals (Brent 2006:26). The main conflict between adults and young people seems to be based around behaviour in public. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The authors concluded that while increasing gastroenterology capacity is important (i.e., capital and funding availability, plus searching the local labor market for gastroenterology physicians, nurses, and physician assistants), it may not be as beneficial as redirecting the focus on healthcare system process changes. Access limitations may be due to suboptimal management of current capacity rather than inadequate levels of capacity (Powell et al., 2009). As the largest healthcare system in the world, the VHA cannot rely solely on hiring and training more gastroenterology staff when process management is also in urgent need of simultaneous, coordinated improvement. As a response to this colossal demand to expand gastroenterology trained and credentialed providers to perform colonoscopy, a small number of VHA facilities and gastroenterology departments sought new and innovative ways to build provider and space capacity to mitigate this challenging, unmet need. Bartleby, The Scrivener, By Herman Melville In short, Herman Melville s story Bartleby, the scrivener , tells the tale of a successful lawyer hiring a new copyist and the challenges he faced with his new hire. Initially, the new hire, Bartleby, was extremely driven and very efficient. He had a great work ethic, and had an extraordinary output of writing for the head lawyer. On the third day Bartleby stunned his boss by preferring not to comply with his boss s request. Bartleby s refusal to comply was at first directed at anything outside of his copyist responsibilities, but gradually shifted toward refusing to do anything including his responsibilities as a copyist. Upon further analysis into Bartleby s descent from a productive scrivener, to utterly useless in the office. I have found a connection between the people that isolate others because of differences, and the people that choose to stray away from normal behavior . This impacts the isolated person, people are negatively impacted when they live in isolation and have little personal and emotional connection with others. Without any emotional connection or contact with others, humans lose their purpose in life, or become useless like in Bartleby in the office. Refusing to do any work did not deter Bartleby from the office. In fact, he used the office for everything in his life such as sleep, shaving, eating and spending all of his time. • 33. What Is The Purpose Of The Seven Samurai Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai (1954) is not only a great film in its own right, but the source of a genre that would flow through the rest of the century. The critic Michael Jeck suggests that this was the first film in which a team is assembled to carry out a mission an idea which gave birth to its direct Hollywood remake, The Magnificent Seven, as well as The Guns of Navarone. The Dirty Dozen, and countless later war, heist and caper movies. Since Kurosawa s samurai adventure Yojimbo (1960) was remade as A Fistful of Dollars and essentially created the spaghetti Western, and since this movie and Kurosawa s The Hidden Fortress inspired George Lucas Star Wars series, it could be argued that this greatest of filmmakers gave employment to action heroes for the next 50 years, just as a fallout from his primary purpose. That purpose was to make a samurai movie that was anchored in ancient Japanese culture, and yet argued for a flexible humanism in place of rigid traditions. One of the central truths of The Seven Samurai is that the samurai and the villagers who hire them are of different castes, and must never mix. Indeed, we learn that these villagers had earlier been hostile to samurai and one of them, even now, hysterically fears that a samurai will make off with his daughter. Yet the bandits represent a greater threat, and so the samurai are hired, valued and resented in about equal measure. Why do they take the job? Why, for a handful of rice ... The Learning And Teaching Strategies Many great learning and teaching strategies are presented in the text, How we learn... of which a few learning tactics, namely discrimination, perceptual learning, chunking and interleaving will be briefly discussed as to how they have relevance in my context. To begin we will examine discrimination, the brain s ability to detect minute differences in sights, sounds and textures. [Such is considered]...one of the first steps we take in making sense of the world (Carey, 2012, p.180). This learning technique occurs often during HT training as students detect differences in breathing patterns of those being treated, l see slight tremors or body twitches that accompanies release of stagnate energy and perceived smoothness of textures in the human energy field (Mentgen Bulbrook, 2011). Next, perceptual learning occurs as the brain takes notice of subtle differences in techniques, such as hand positions that seem the same but may not have the same therapeutic effect. Another learning strategy that can be useful in HT training is chunking which is the simple act of grouping bits and pieces of information together to make a whole (or at minimal a segment) of a concept. For example words stringed together create sentences and sentences which are connected formulate paragraph. In the case of HT chunking is necessary as a series of hand movements and/or places equate to a specific healing technique.
