2. Essay On The Lesson In Catcher In The Rye
The Lessons Taught in the Catcher in the Rye
In the words of Juliette Lewis, The bravest thing [she has] ever done was [continue] to live when
[she] wanted to die. J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, envelops this quote into the
mind of the main character, Holden Caulfield, as he struggles to find his place in the world.
Holden Caulfield, a depressed teenage boy, does not want to grow up. Although he tries to act
super mature, it is clear that he is not. Over the span of two days, he gets kicked out of school,
encounters a prostitute, and consistently ponders about how he wants to stay a child forever. Many
critics believe that this best selling novel should not be taught in schools anymore. However, The
Catcher in the Rye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If students do not read this book, then they too will be victims of speaking to people with this
same exact disrespect. Lastly, when Holden is in his old school s bathroom he sees the words
F*ck you (205) inscribed on the wall in red crayon. Though Holden is infuriated with the fact that
this was written in a place for children, if students do not read this book in school they may think
that both vandalization and profanity are tolerable, when really, they both bring negativity into the
world. In essence, though the profanity displayed in the book is a controversial topic for critics, it
is evident that this book must continue to be taught in schools so that children know the difference
between right and wrong.
On top of profanity, throughout the entire piece, Holden deals with extreme cases of depression.
At first, Holden notifies readers of how depressed he was when his older brother Allie passed
away as he expresses, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows
with my fist, just for the hell of it ( 39) when thinking back on the past. Holden s demeanor
drastically changed when something horrific happened to him, and if this book is not taught in
schools anymore, people dealing with the same types of feelings in real life could turn out just the
same. Rather, Holden s aggravation should teach kids that violence is never

3. Importance Of Intercultural Sensitivity
Sensitivity towards other cultures is essential when living in such a vast and diverse world. It is
important to note that cultures are rarely the same, and the differences between cultures should be
celebrated. Milton Bennett divided intercultural sensitivity into 6 distinct stages. These stages can
be identified as: denial of differences, defense against differences, minimization of difference,
acceptance of difference, adaptation to difference, and finally, integration of difference. The stage
of intercultural sensitivity I fall under would be the fourth stage, acceptance of difference. In this
stage individuals understand that there are viable differences within different cultures, but these
variations in culturedoes not make any single culture better than another. These individuals accept
that other cultures exist, however, these individuals may potentially be ignorant to the exact
differences of these cultures. Additionally, these individuals view what is deemed to be good and
evil is culturally defined along with particular beliefs and values. I believe that I fall under the
acceptance of difference stage because I am not well educated about very many cultures. I very
much acknowledge that these cultures exist within our world, but I am ultimately uneducated on
many of these cultures. I do not find my culture better than another and I believe that having a
great number of various cultures is a way of keeping our world an exciting world to live in.

4. Music And Music Essay
For society music plays numerous roles in every individual s life whether that be from playing it,
singing, or even just listening to it, music effects everyone in some way and is used differently in
people s lives. Music can be used for art and self expression, amusement, relaxation, and leisure
according to Aristotles reading From The Politics. Music has had many effects on society opening
the doors for creativity, inspiring the youth, and even educating. Artists construct songs that talk
about love, family, friendship s, politics, and life itself. Aristotle speaks on the usage of it and how
it affects the way we think and act under some circumstances. For me personally, music became a
passion after learningI can express myself in an environment where I can be comfortable. In the
reading, Aristotle s points are both practical and ideological as he makes a lot of points that can
be made in today s time while also giving his own opinion on a lot of subjects. There are many
definitions for good music and bad music that can potentially lead to good or bad mortality based
upon the message in the song especially if there are lyrics. When discussing music relating it to
amusement, relaxation, and leisure, Aristotle states that music is useful as a pastime in leisure,
which is evidently the purpose for which people actually introduce it (Aristotle Pg. 25). Aristotle
uses leisure as an instance of coming from work and using music as somewhat a pleasure. This

5. The Appeal And Effect Of Fantasy Essay
This symposium paper will discuss one of the most distinctive features of Keith Waterhouse s
narrative: the appeal and effect of fantasy, in juxtaposition with provincial realism. In the context of
angry young men writers of the mid to late 1950 s.
Billy Liar written by Keith Waterhouse was published in 1959. Waterhouse s work was associated
with a group of novelists and dramatists such as John Braine, Alan Sillitoe and Stan Barstow who
were referenced as angry young men . Notably, the writers were mostly young, working class and
male, who responded to the disillusionment created by the perceived failure of post war
administrations. They considered the labour government had failed to deliver an egalitarian society
and allowed the continuation of an entrenched class system.
The term angry young man , was originally coined in 1956, following the opening of John
Osbourne s play Look Back in Anger (Hague, p.209) which depicted the play s frustrated
protagonist, Jimmy Porter. This play typified a new protagonist in British culture: the white
working class, or lower middle class, disillusioned young male. This new stock character is
observed with Waterhouse s depiction of his protagonist, Billy Fisher. Post World War II, British
fiction was witnessing the emergence of a new kind of protagonist. Keith Waterhouses central
character Billy is representative of this new flawed character, the antihero. He is a rather seedy
young man who is an ingenious and compulsive liar.

6. Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asian Financial Crisis
Factors That Caused the 1997 East Asia Financial Crisis Discuss the principal factors responsible
for the East Asian currency/financial crisis of 1997. In 1997, there occurred certain shifts in
expectations from the market. The regional contagion and confidence led to the East Asian
financial turmoil. In 1990s, it had been reported that the microeconomic and macroeconomic
businesses were not performing as expected. The local and international investors had not held
enough grips into the looming financial challenges to be expected by the financial fragments. These
investors panicked and participated in fraudulent and faulty approaches and policies of operation in
the market through the influence of the International Monetary Fund together with the global
financial body. The financial policies, which were laid by the small businesses within the region,
had failed to bring enough financial performance in the local and international market. For instance,
reports claim that these businesses were not large enough to hold immense support to the structure
of the economy in the region. With time, the stability of the financial structure was brought to
question. This was later contributed by the influences obtained from the international financial
bodies and the International Monetary Fund committee (Corsetti, Pesenti, Roubini, 1999, p.305 6).
The Asian financial crisis refers to a period of the financial crisis that was experienced in Asia as at

ABSTRACT
E procurement systems contribute largely to business and government institutes by increasing the
national productivity growth through removing of non value added activities in the process of
procurement. In many countries the adoption of these systems has been slow compared to
economically integrated regions such as Europe and North America. This study aims at exploring
the impact of electronic procurement systems for Australian organizations using the propagated
framework. The research will be used to develop an instrument to measure the success of the
adoption, help identify the barriers facing achieving success and establishment of a framework to
promote success
Key words: E procurement, technology adaption, IS success.

8. Dangers Of Speeding
Nearly every driver is aware that speeding is dangerous. They are taught this fact in their driver s
education course before getting their license and have doubtless heard plenty of public safety
messages stating this. Yet, they continue to speed and contribute to the yearly carnage of speeding
related fatalities. Why do they do this? As it turns out, there is no one single reason. Here are six
common reasons why people speed:
Familiarity. When a person drives the same route to and from work for years, he knows every
curve and intersection like the back of his hand. This ability to anticipate his commute route
combined with a muscle memory of the maneuvers he always makes, causes him to drive faster.
Familiarity also breeds confidence which

9. Narrative Essay On Health Center
Upon exiting my vehicle in front of the clinic, I noticed the usual group of protestors gathered at
the front entrance. Today was different, there were three men creating a cacophonous noise with
trumpets outside of the health center. Curious as to why they were doing this, I asked the health
center staff inside what was going on. Apparently, they were blowing these trumpets in the
biblical tradition as a warning or announcement from God. In Exodus, trumpets or shofars were
used to get the attention of the Israelites, and then in Jericho to bring the walls crashing down.
This display was intended to bring the sinful health center to a close. I had seen many different
groups protesting in front of our clinic in the past, some carrying graphic signs, others praying
silently, some setting up a make shift altar out front and praying for the occupants inside. The
horns, however, stood out to me. On that particular day, I was organizing a press conference to
put pressure on Governor McCrory to expand Medicaid in NC. I was busy calling local

background. Many of the women entering the health center looked frightened. They hurried inside
wide eyed, glancing over their shoulders at the tumultuous crowd. I understand and recognize the
right to protest peacefully as an essential part of protecting free speech in this country, but on this
day the protesters were blatantly harassing and intimidating

Wisdom in Job, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs Wisdom is a concept that most people are interested
in. As human beings, we want to learn how to receive wisdom, know how it affects us, and what
wisdom really is. Many people throughout the years have pondered these questions and have come
up with a variety of answers. However, answers to these questions can also be seen in the Bible
through books that are defined as wisdom literature, or literature that gives thought to universal,
humanistic, and philosophical standpoints (Dell 1). We can especially see these questions
answered in unique ways through Job, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs. Job as a whole address the why

Entertainment
There are multiple advantages and disadvantages that come with riding a cruise ships. Taking a
cruise can be very expensive and often times require people to save up for it. However, the time
spent on a cruise is well worth the money spent for it. An all inclusive cruise includes most meals, a
place to stay, and entertainment. Discounts for kids meals vary upon each ship. Adults over the age
of 21 do not have to worry about paying for alcohol in the all inclusive ship. Purchasing food,
beverages, and souvenirs at small shops on the boat is not included in the initial payment. If the
cruise allows for a person to bring their own snacks, one should definitely bring their own snacks.

Casinos are a major part of entertainment while on a cruise. People that love to go to casinos back
at home will also be able to do so while they are on vacation. Extended cruises which are more
than three days allow for casino visits. Intended cruises which are less than three days make it
harder for the people who want to gamble do so. Gambling is illegal in most parts of the United
States but in different countries it is perfectly fine. The same casino rules on land apply on the

communication. (Moss, 8) Casinos are a great aspect for the older generations that are considering

very high end and over the top; offering their guest top of the line services and accommodations.

12. Allocation Rates And Its Effects On The Current Allocation...
allocation rates to make them more efficient. Second, policy makers could change allocations to
reflect more accurate precipitation rates along with being more efficient. Third, a market based
system could be implemented allowing for tradeable water rights much like the market system in
Australia. All of these policy options would solve the inefficiencies in the current allocation rates.
They would not solve the supply and demandcomplications due to the ongoing drought or growing
populations. The first option would simply change the allocation of water making it more efficient
and removing any potential deadweight loss that may otherwise exist. The second option would
merely make allocation rates more efficient by basing them off of more accurate precipitation
amounts. The third, would make it easier for water rights to be traded, leading to a more efficient
outcome through trading rather than mandating consumption amounts.
Method
To start with the first policy option an effort must take place to test the efficiency of current
allocation rates. In an attempt to do so, a simple model will be used to determine what an
efficient allocation would be. To further simplify the model, it will consist of only Upper and
Lower basins, averaging statistics taken from the states located within each basin. This simple
model will allow variables to be changed to help identify how they interact with the efficient
allocation of water. To perform this model, it is necessary to have a demand

13. Harrison Bergeron Character Analysis
Harrison Bergeron. by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. is about Harrison s struggle to fight against a system set
in place by John Klaxon and his secret society. The message of Harrison Bergeron. is, that equality
doesn t necessarily create the perfect world. Because nobody can express who they are as an
individual. The characters in Harrison Bergeron. Such as John Klaxon and Harrison himself, had
conflicting ideologies that lead to strife and conflict between them.
John Klaxon spent his life creating a world in which the general public was totally equal to one
another, but him and his secret society don t have handicaps or any sort. They manage what the
public sees and hears with mind numbing television programs, but they themselves can watch
movies and programs with any meaning and listen to beautiful music. In this social structure
John Klaxon has created, himself and his secret society are the only ones in this society that can
truly express their ideas and feelings. During the movie after the police bust on Head house.
Harrison is offered two choices die or join Klaxons society, there he is told to take his handicaps
off. This is unfair to the public because it exposes the corruption of this system and the
government that controls their daily lives. John Klaxon believed that too, end envy would bring an
end to war and conflict. But this led to no one being able to show individuality or express
themselves.During the movie after John showed Harrison some Mozart s great

16. The Influence Of Power In Emily Dickinson s Poetry
Emily Dickinson is the creator of some of the most famous works in American poetry. Throughout
the 1800s, the author dedicated her life to poetry. She used metaphors in an advanced way and
displayed power through her unique use of diction. Emily s immense power with words derived
from her determination. Dickinson s determination to achieve individuality and power is
exemplified through her complex poetryand derived from the events that occurred in her life.
Dickinson s poetry was heavily influenced by the ongoings of her life. She was born in Amherst,

Comfort can be found in any place that it is desired. Dickinson s desired comfort was found
within the experience of seclusion. In 1852, Emily went through an unknown, traumatic event
which caused her to sink into the depths of her emotions. She withdrew from society for 15
years and refused to interact with any one contacted with the outside world. She resided within
the confines of Homestead from 1858 until her death, in 1862. All visitors of Homestead were
hidden from and her only focus was poetry (Miller). Some say the cause of her withdrawal was
the rejection of her mother, which lead to an immunity to loneliness. Others say she withdrew
because none of her relationships seemed to work out which understandably could cause a strong
feeling of misery. However, Emily quite frequently had trouble getting poems published, therefore
she could have merely wanted to perfect her poetry. Dickinson s period of seclusion inspired many

20. Everything Flows By Vasily Grossman
Throughout his novel Everything Flows, Vasily Grossman provides numerous occasions for
defining freedom. In the midst of attempting to give meaning to freedom, Grossman greatly invests
in wrestling with the issue of why freedom is still absent within Russia although the country has
seen success in many different ways. Through the idea and image of the Revolution stems
Capitalism, Leninism, and Stalinism. Grossman contends that freedom is an inexorable
occurrence and that to live means to be free , that it is simply the nature of human kind to be free
(200 204). The lack of freedom expresses a lack of humanity in Russia, and though freedom never
dies, if freedom does not exist in the first place, then it has no chance to be kept alive. Through
Grossman s employment of the Revolution and the ideas that stem from it, he illustrates why
freedom is still absent from Russian society, but more importantly why the emergence of freedom is
inevitable.
The confusion at the lack of freedom in Russia despite the success the country has experienced
through newly built cities, construction sites, and military victories, is exemplified by Grossman
early in the novel through the use of Ivan Grigoryevich, a Russian citizen recently released from
the Gulag (49). As daunting as that is, it is understandable why it is so. Freedom gives those who
have it the opportunity to choose as they wish, do as they wish, think as they wish, and say as they
wish, but to Grossman, that is not

Chemistry Baking ProjectFactorial Experiment9/25/17
Nick Arana, Joey HenselArana, HenselChemistry G
Objective:
The purpose of this experiment is to further comprehend the chemistry of baking a cake through
research and experimentation.
Background:
It may be surprising; however, the process of baking a cake involves a sufficient amount of
chemistry. A physical property is a property that can be observed or measured without changing
the composition of matter. For example, the color of the cake does not affect the volume,
texture, or flavor of the cake; it only affects the appearance of it. Color is a physical property of
the cake. On the other hand, a chemical property is a property or behavior of a substance when it
undergoes a chemical change or reaction. For example, a chemical property of the cake would be
that the cake can burn, spoil, or be digested. Everything added to the cake batter affects the texture
of it. For example, without the flour, the cake batter would be close to a liquid, but by adding the
flour it gives the cake more volume and it changes the texture. A chemical reaction/change is any
change that results in the formation of new chemical substances. When the cake batter bakes and
turns into cake, this is a chemical change. In a physical reaction/change, the molecules rearrange,
but it does not affect their internal structures (no new substance is formed). When eggs are
whipped, it is a physical change or

25. Food And The City Summary
With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is
becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil
quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers.
However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban
farming and mass organic foodproduction. Food and the City by Jennifer Cockrall King and Lentil
Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America by Liz Carlisle explores the
challenges and solutions to organic food production in the major cities and the midwest United
States. One solution to the unsustainable industrial agriculturesystem, urban... Show more content

The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to
London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their
local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms
started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became
possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large
quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are
focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial
farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores
to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The
sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came
to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery
stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and
make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered
ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and
obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed
foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found
ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered
healthy. With all of the additives, who knows what the food actually is and the harm it could do to

26. Economic Development Of Japan During World War II
In the past few decades, Japan has experienced a rapid growth with various problems associated
with urbanization. Japan has also been facing declining birthrate, aging population, poverty, and
overcoming deflation. Urbanization has enabled economic growth but it has contributed to climate
change, pollution, congestion, and the growth of slums. Also Social and Economic development
cannot be achieved without addressing global warming and other environmental issues. Due to
these problems, Japan has passed several laws to implement urbanization policies and city growth
management programs that primarily target regional balance in growth and concentration. On top
of this Japan has worked its way to reform its economic and social issues.
Japan started experiencing urbanization before World War II and accelerated in the postwar
period. Its urbanization level more than doubled, from 37.3 percent in 1950 to 76.2 percent in
1980, and then slowed down in the 1980s and 1990s. As of January 2008, there were 23 wards,
26 cities, five towns and eight villages in TMG (Tokyo Metropolitan Government) jurisdiction,
and there were total of four designated cities, 91 cities, 59 towns and five villages in the three
prefectures. There are 13.3 million people living and 2,190.93 square kilometer in Tokyo. In
calculation that is about 6,168.04 people living in one square kilometers. Also overcoming deflation

29. The Advantages Of Teaching Technology And The Benefits Of...
Benefits of Technology Children today are impacted by technology; some people believe that
technology can be beneficial in a child s life and others are strictly against it. Though, everyone is
accustomed to their own beliefs when it comes to raising a child, and how they want their child to
be educated. The main argument is should children or adults be involved with technology, and if so
how much technology should they encounter within the day? There is a wide variety of educational
and non educational resources that technology offers to teachers, parents, and students, in
moderation these resources can be beneficial to people educationally and socially. Schools today are
trying their best to stay up to date with the latest and greatest technology, from Smart Boards to
lending each student their own laptop or iPad. In the classroom teachers use the technology within
their lesson plans, but when planning they should make sure that the programs that they include
will engage students, and will also involve interaction between the students and program
(Stošić, L). Incorporating technology in the classroom is a great educational tool for teachers to
use as part of their teaching methods. While including educational technology methods in the
classroom it will enhance students learning skills and their cognitive characteristic (Stošić, L).
With the right teaching methods and reliable educational interactive learning programs, students are
more excited and motivated about learning, because of the involvement of today s modern
technology. Outside of school, parents have the option to entertain and at the same time educate
their children by using technology. There are some apps intended for kindergarten through twelfth
grade, that parents can download to their device and can be used for educational purposes. Most of
the educational apps support the single person use of interactive learning materials, simulations and
learning games (Leinonen, T). Since apps include multiple games to get children engaged in
different educational lessons, they are more likely to retain more knowledge of the content being
taught. Educational apps are a great source for reviewing what they child has learned or is learning

30. Examples Of Feminism In Jane Eyre
Feminism in Jane Eyre s struggling For Self Realization
When Jane was young she lost her parents, and thanks to her uncle Jane could live a fine life, but
unfortunately her uncle died after a few years. Mrs. Sarah Reed, her aunt, regarded Jane as a
curse and her three children neglected and abused Jane. They despised Jane s simple looks and
quiet yet passionate character. The only relatives of Jane Eyrenever showed any sympathy or care
to this distressing little girl, instead they consistently criticized and bullied her. Unsympathetic and
disparaging, Mrs. Reed always treated Jane Eyre as an impediment inferior to a maid. Finally one
day, little Jane had a quarrel with her cousin and was beaten. Jane became ill as she was locked in
a room for an entire night and at that time, her early feminism was generated.
Jane refuses to be treated as an inferior on the face of Mrs. Reed, and eventually speaks out
against the prejudices to her with sharp and forbidding exposure. According to the tradition that the
Victorian women were restricted to follow, Jane s behavior was the total opposite for the role of
women. In fact, many people of that period suggested that Jane should be greatly thankful to her
aunt instead of being rude. When Jane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effects of Human Activity on Coastal Landforms
Human activities add another layer of complexity to the natural processes of coastal lands and
materials. These activities may have direct or indirect effects on our changing coastlines. They may
effect sources of new sediment to the coast and the movement of sediment within the coastal
environment.
Sediment starvation caused by river and coastal management is one effect of human activities on
the coast. For some coastal regions, such as the Pacific coast, a large part of their sediment is
supplied by rivers. Dams built for flood control and water catchment along the rivers leading to
these coasts inhibit the transport of large grained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leaves the sand dunes more susceptible to erosion causing blowouts and disrupting the
succession of vegetation in the area. This has been a problem at Studland Bay in Dorset on the
south coast of England. Persistent human leisure activities on the dunes has led to substantial
erosion in some parts of these dunes which has meant that Management programs have had to been
introduced by English Nature.
Sand dunes help absorb the pounding of high waves and reduce overwash flooding in storms. It
has become common for sand dunes to be bulldozed to improve the views to the sea. However this
destroys the natural protection of the coast.
Human activities such as water transport also can cause problems for coastal areas. The dredging
of navigation channels and the discharging of the material in deep water to enable larger ships to
travel though water channels removes sediment from the coastal system leaving the area
susceptible to erosion and will also interfere with longshore drift which will prevent the coastal
beach landforms from being maintained such as the development of a spit. It is likely that a spit
will be eroded and start to regress in conditions such as these. An example is Spurn head Spit. Spurn
head is lcated, on the humber Estuary in North East England. The growth

advantage of NoSQL database is to store efficiently unstructured data. These days use of e
commerce websites, social networking sites etc. has been increased. These usage made to create
the need to store the large data. Some companies have adopted NoSQL databases, as their data is
growing. Dynamo, Big table, Voldemort, Cassandra are the NoSQL databases that are used by
Amazon, Google, and LinkedIn and Facebook respectively. Facing these huge data has become
challenging for Relational Database Management Systems. Hence NoSQL database came into
existence. Mostly Relational Database Management System satisfies ACID properties, through
NoSQL database we can achieve high level of Scalability and performance. As a lot of sensitive
data is stored in NoSQL databases security issues becomes growing concerns. This Paper explains
about overview of NoSQL databases like Cassandra, mongo dB and their security features.
Introduction:
Database Management Systems has some basic requirements. They are confidentiality, integrity and

38. The Causes Of The Easter Rising
The nativist social and cultural revival preached antagonism towards the social and cultural forms
of Great Britain. In this way, the Irish language and literary movement can be seen to have not only
encouraged Irish nationalism and separatism, but also fed the flames of Anglophobia which can
thus be interpreted as a catalyst in inspiring the imaginations for those who later led the 1916 Easter
Rising. The revival of Irish language and literature had a notable effect on the course of Irish
politics leading up to partition. It ultimately brought forth a keener understanding of Irelands
culture, traditions, history and grievances, and romanticised Irish traditions separate to those of a
greater Britain. Moreover, it enabled Ireland s demand for more freedom to gain increasing empathy
throughout the world. It was public opinion that converted British politicians to the view that at
least some measure of independence to Ireland should be given.
Much of the Irish nationalistic traditions romanticize the heroism of failed attempts by outgunned
individuals to overcome the powerful British state. While there had historically been numerous
armed rebellions against the British, the development of formal paramilitary organisations in the
years leading to partition was an anomaly, and one driven by a resort to arms by the unionists. A
nationalist secret society, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), was formed in 1858. Known
popularly as the Fenians , this group carried out a

killed off an attempt to legalize sports betting by vetoing 36 clauses before signing a bill that was

Protests riots in the United States has proven to an issue for both the country s financial strength
and the unity of the nation. With the presence of social injustices, combined with the increased
impact of social media propaganda, protests riots are beginning to reach an all time high. Protest
riots destroy individual communities and businesses, jeopardizes the safety of others and taints
the protest s cause by resorting to civil disobedience. Action must be done in order to prevent
these random acts of violence from continuing after every social hot topic. The goal is not to
prevent citizens from protesting; in fact, this should be encouraged. The goal is to change the
way the protests are handled from both the citizens and authority perspectives, in order to prevent
these protests from escalating into something dangerous. There are three solutions that need to be
introduced in order to correct the problems caused by protest riots. If police officers change their
approach when dealing with protests, there is a smaller chance that a protest will escalate into a
riot. Also if there are hidden cameras implanted around the community and inside policer officer

original insights is not an easy procedure, and not every filmmaker is equipped with the artistic
skills necessary to complete such an undertaking. Alejandro Jodorowsky s wildly unsuccessful
attempt at adapting Frank Herbert s Dune, for example, ended in bankruptcy for the studio and
premature cancellation of the project due to the extensive runtime the film was to have in

Each creative, Demme and Harris, utilize the conventions of their respective platform not for the
creation of an identical character, but an identical feeling. In both texts, Lecter executes his

precision of a man so arrogant he can barely be bothered to address the sloppy intelligence of the
ordinary person. He is intelligent and knows it, craving control for apparently no other reason than
because it is there. There are, however, major discrepancies between Harris s one eyed, eleven

43. Essay on Annotated Bibliographies; Henri Fayol s Work...
Rodrigues, CA, 2001, Fayol s 14 principles of management then and now: a framework for
managing today s organizations effectively , Management Decision, vol. 31, no. 10, pp. 880 889.
Rodrigues discusses in some detail how Fayol s principles of management individually are/are not
used in modern management. He doesn t necessarily hold a contention or argument as he is
ultimately comparing and contrasting the world of management in US organisations from early
1900 s to now. However the result of each of his discussions fall in the same favour each time,
which may potentially be viewed as a bias and further as a limitation of this journal. A further
limitation of this article is that it blurs the line between positive and normative ... Show more

Pryor, MS amp; Taneja, S 2010, Henry Fayol, practitioner and theoretician revered and reviled ,
Journal of Management History, vol. 16, no. 4, pp. 489 503.
The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining
contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles
and model theory is relevant in management today.
This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g.
Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and
Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities
and differences between their theories.
A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare
attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on
this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both
aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g.
Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5
management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). Another shared conclusion
between journals is that Fayol s work sets the foundations of management practise and theory today.
Even though Mintzberg (1973) argues differently, his theory tends to

45. The Conflict Of Police Brutality Essay
We, as humans, come into conflict on a daily basis at all times of the day. We encounter conflict
on all levels in our home lives, social lives, entertainment and careers. Conflict is also brought to
our attention second and third handedly through word of mouth and the mass media and the
internet. Personally, locally, nationally, and globally conflict and problems surround us. Instead of
addressing personalized conflicts, I would like to attempt to provide critical analysis on a crucial
social issue facing the United States. This issue is police brutality, especially against minority,
particularly black Americans. I will attempt to do this with the root cause tool of critical analysis
and problem solving. The conflict of policebrutality has made national and international news. It
has also sparked a new social movement. While police brutality is not limited to minorities, the rate
that it used against African American individuals is alarming. To further the problem, no
perpetrator has been brought to justice and the victims and their families are left behind or blamed.
I will be using Root Cause Analysis model of critical analysis. This strategy consists of five steps.
They include:
Define the Problem
Collect Data
Identify Possible Casual Factors
Identify the Root Cause(s)
Recommend and Implement Solutions

46. Informative Essay About Massage
There are many types of massage, each with their own benefits to relieve stress, pain or enhance
general wellbeing. Massage is an ancient art with many variations depending on the country of
origin. I explore some of the most popular, explaining the treatment and their individual benefits.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage, the most popular worldwide, is also known as Classic massage and is the
foundation for most other types of Western massage. It involves using firm but gentle pressure to
promote relaxation, working on areas of specific muscle tension. It is performed on bare skin
using oils or lotions. The therapist uses their hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the
superficial layers of the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by
flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes by ... Show more content on

The West has caught on to its benefits using it as a quick de stressing program.
Indian Head Massage is a very relaxing treatment which, as the name suggests, focuses on
massaging the head. Indian Head Massage (Champissage) also includes massage of the shoulders,
upper arms, neck, scalp, face and ears. The treatment uses a range of different movements including
deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. Performed
sitting upright in a chair, it helps to clear the mind as it revitalizes and improves alertness and
concentration levels, whilst improving joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders.
Reflexology Massage
Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is based on the concept that there are reflex areas on
the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. The
underlying theory is that if pressure is applied to a specific reflex area, it affects the organ

47. 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Destructive Tsunami Waves
Tsunami
[pic] INTRODUCTION
The term tsunami comes from the Japanese language meaning harbour ( tsu ) and wave ( nami ).
Although in Japanese tsunami is used for both the singular and plural, in English tsunamis is well
established as the plural. The term was created by fishermen who returned to port to find the area
surrounding the harbour devastated, although they had not been aware of any wave in the open
water. A tsunami is not a sub surface event in the deep ocean; it simply has a much smaller
amplitude (wave heights) offshore, and a very long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characteristics
[pic][pic]
There is a common misconception that tsunamis behave like wind driven waves or swells (with
air behind them, as in this celebrated 19th century woodcut by Hokusai). In fact, a tsunami is
better understood as a new and suddenly higher sea level, which manifests as a shelf or shelves
of water. The leading edge of a tsunami superficially resembles a breaking wave but behaves
differently: the rapid rise in sea level, combined with the weight and pressure of the ocean behind
it, has far greater force.
[pic]
Although often referred to as tidal waves , a tsunami does not look like the popular impression
of a normal wave only much bigger . Instead it looks rather like an endlessly onrushing tide
which forces its way around and through any obstacle. Most of the damage is caused by the huge
mass of water behind the initial wave front, as the height of the sea keeps rising fast and floods
powerfully into the coastal area. The sheer weight of water is enough to pulverise objects in its
path, often reducing buildings to their foundations and scouring exposed ground to the bedrock.
Large objects such as ships and boulders can be carried several miles inland before the tsunami
subsides.
Tsunamis act very differently from typical surf swells; they are phenomena which move the entire
depth of the ocean (often several kilometres deep) rather than just

48. Correlation Between Money Supply And Price Level For...
Darrat (1986) used the procedure recommended by Sargent (1976) to test the direction of causality
between money supply and price level for Morocco, Tunisia and Libya for the period from 1960Q1
to 1980Q2. This study found the unidirectional causality running from narrow money supply to
price level, which supported Monetarists view that money mattered price level. However, Parikh
and Starmer (1988) have explored the relationship between money supplyand price level in
Bangladesh using the monthly data during the period 1973 1986 and found the unidirectional
feedback running from price to money. In this study, the strict exogeneity of money supply is
rejected. The results of this study has denied the Monetarists view but supports Structuralists view.
Similarly, the study of Ramchandran and Kamaiah (1992) has also noticed the uni directional
causality running from money supply to price level for the economy of India as in case of Darrat
(1986). On the other hand, the study of Aghevli and Khan (1978) for Brazil, Columbia, the
Dominican Republic, and Thailand, has found bidirectional causality between money and prices.
Likewise, Maish and Maish (1994) examined the question of causality between money and price in
the context of Asian developing economy, India. This study supported monetarists view that money
supply was leading variable and price was lagging variable in the context of India when they
studied the linkage between money supply and price during the period

Within their paper, Childress and Siegler expand upon five models of physician patient
relationships that are omnipresent within the healthcare setting: Paternalism, Partnership,
Friendship, Contract, and Technical Assistance (Childress and Siegler 74). By using these models,
physicians often use these social frameworks to appeal to ethical principles related to informed
consent or shared decision making or, at a deeper level, [the] goal of respecting patient autonomy
(Schwartz 2011). While the substantial purpose of using these models is to help alleviate the
excruciating effects of disease, there are drawbacks to these models where efforts to respect patient
autonomy may aggravate a patients suffering, specifically paternalism. Advocates

Relationship between Layoffs and Voluntary Turnover As the world accelerates in advancements
such as technology, the society is now capable of reaching greater heights in efficiency more than
ever. The benefit of efficiency is not wasting any limited resources and time; however, it is not
much so when business owners attempt to become more efficient by laying off their employees. In
the business field, this strategy is called downsizing and it reduces the number of employees to
operate the business more efficiently or especially during a crisis when the economy is unstable and
the business cannot afford to maintain the current number of employees. As more and more
businesses utilize downsizing, the question is, what is the impact on the... Show more content on

Psychological Spillover. This implies that a layoff experience gives a looser tie to the subsequent
employment, which means that an individual feels psychological contract violations and
amplified feelings of distrust, job insecurity, and he or she pays a greater attention to external
job opportunities. These are all factors that can potentially lead to voluntary turnover. A
psychological contract is the reciprocal exchange agreement between employee and employing
organization, as perceived by the worker. A new employee has this general schema ( a set of
expectations) of a psychological contract between him and his employer and when he is laid off,
it negatively impacts the same general schema and it transfers over to his subsequent
employment. Accordingly, once he starts working at his new job, he has lower expectations and
feels less obligated to the employer leading to an increased likelihood of voluntary turnover. It is
a similar situation with the other factors. When an individual is laid off and finds a new
employment, he will start off with the corresponding trust and job security he felt when he was
laid off which was heavily brought down thus far, and he pays a greater attention to external job
opportunities because he does not trust nor feel a sturdy job security, therefore leading up to an

People are always either judging others or being judged. They act on what they see others do.
They see what they dislike and like in others, and decide on whether to follow or judge. Clarence
is a parvenu and arrogant man who is always on the lookout for other snobs , and tries to avoid
them. Maria Edgeworth defines C. Hervey s character as a cliched young man whose intellect and
wealth make rather overbearing. In the selection, C. Hervey s self absorbed character is developed
through judgemental tone, third person limited point of view, and descriptive language.
The narrator reveals a judgemental tone of Clarence Hervey through descriptions of his character.
The tone represents not only the personality of the narrator but also the characters in the selection.

In the selection, she portrays a descriptive language when describing C. Hervey s character. One
literary element that she uses is diction. She uses words such as chameleon character, imprudent
, wild , and eccentric . By using these words, she is showing us a better picture of Hervey s
personality. Chameleon is a very distinctive and highly specialized lizard. Imprudent is saying
that he doesnt care about the consequences for his actions, which also goes with the word wild.
Eccentric means that on top of everything else, he is also slightly strange. Another literary
element that she uses is juxtaposition. Another example in line 53, Consequently he saw Belinda
almost every day, and every day he saw her with increasing admiration of her beauty, and with
increasing dread of being taken in to marry a niece of the catch match maker , the name by which
Mrs. Stanhope was known amongst the men of his acquaintance. By saying this, she is showing
contrast by saying that she admires her for beauty and attracted to her, but yet he has a fear of
marrying her. The narrator s descriptive language helps define Clarence s complex

In the novel Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson, there are many definitions to the word forge. For
one, Curzon forges his way into the army. Additionally, the hardships Curzon experiences during
war forge him into a much stronger person. Finally, Curzon develops into a more mature and
strong person by expressing his emotions for Isabel. Forge is a multi layered word with many
different meanings and applications. Throughout the book, Anderson gives many different
examples. One meaning of forge in this novel is that in order to become a soldier, Curzon must
forge a different persona for himself. When he is first making his mark on the papers that define
him as a soldier for the Continental Army in chapter nine, he is asked if he is a free man. He is

In Chains and the beginning of Forge, Curzon is unable to accept, let alone express his feelings
for Isabel. Once they parted ways, when he would think of her he would pull on his ear;
reminding himself that she was gone, and it was silly to be thinking of her. This was a very
immature approach to the situation, and demonstrated that at the time, he would not have been
ready to progress his relationship with her. However, once they are back in the same household,
Curzon begins to talk with her, gradually trying to let her know of the way he feels. The climax
of this is in chapter fifty three, when he admits his feelings to her, and kisses her. It means, You
are my heart. I leaned forward, took her hands in mine, and whispered into her ear. You have
always been my heart, Country. (p.244) This quote shows that by this part in the novel, Curzon has
developed from a boy into a young man. The secret to growing up is learning how to express
yourself in an appropriate manner, something that Curzon has clearly accomplished given the way

Have you ever wondered what that spinning cloud in the sky is? Or why all of a sudden it is
humid out, but the wind is cold? There are approximately 1,000 tornadoes that occur each year in
the US, but there are also many that go undetected and unreported. In El Reno, Oklahoma, in 2013,
a tornado hit and covered 175 miles per hour. This was the fastest, and largest stormever recorded.
Oklahoma has about fifty two tornadoes occur, on average a year.
The definition of a tornado is a small, very intense cyclonic storm with exceedingly high winds,
most often produced along cold fronts in conjunction with severe thunderstorms. A cold front is a
front along which a cold air mass thrusts beneath a warmer air mass. A warm front is a front along

Some tornadoes may strike quickly, and with little to no warning. In the southern states the peak of
tornado season is March through May. In the northern states it is late spring to early summer. They
are most likely to occur between 3 pm and 9 pm but can happen at anytime.
A tornado in Oklahoma picked up a small herd of cattle and carried them across the countryside,
then sat them down and the cattle were unharmed. Dust Devils are a type of tornado that passes
through a desert area. There can be times when multiple tornados form at a time and then they
travel in swarms just like fish. The most powerful tornadoes are from the United States. Every
tornado has its own color, sound and shape that is just for itself, just like fingerprints, no tornado is
exactly the same.
In conclusions, tornados are nothing to mess around with. Treat it just as every other intense

nothing to joke around, about or just treat it like a little shower of rain. It s not, take shelter and be

54. Why I Am An Engineer
Engineering is a field of boundless possibilities that makes everything that we do possible. Ranging
from bridges field with civil engineering and medical field with biomechanical engineering to the
oil industry with petroleum engineering, engineering is a vast field of opportunities.
The buildings we work at, the cars we drive, the technology we use have all been made possible by
the work of engineers. That is the main reason why I desire to be an engineer. I want to work in a
field that I will be able to make a difference and have a job that am proud of and still enjoy.
The first engineering class that I attended was quite surprising. My perception of engineering had
always been of technical equations and solving complex issues. This class on the other hand
introduced me to the work of Raymond B. Landis who wrote the book studying engineering. The
book was a revelation to me as it articulated what aclass engineering student is a student who has
mastered the tools of success, is confident and determined.
After reading the book I realized that if I was going to be a successful engineer I had to adopt a
new way in which I will use in the process of acquiring my degree in engineering. There are
techniques and steps that are used by world class engineer in the process of acquiring a degree in
engineering.
The main focus of this paper is to articulate how I will proceed in my endeavor to become a world
class engineering student and graduate with a degree in engineering.

56. Silence as Power in The House of the Spirits and Madame...
Silence symbolizes power. Silence showcases the ability of restraint and often times angers
those who participate in the other end of an argument and do not have the ability to restrain
themselves from bursting. Similarly, In The House of the Spirits and Madame Bovary, Isabel
Allende and Gustave Flaubert emphasize the symbol of silence in order to emphasize the lack
of power from which Esteban and Charles suffer within their families, within society, and within
their marriages. Allende distances Esteban from his family by wedging silence between them as
a barrier. As Esteban s marriage to Clara declines, Esteban notes, She didn t even look at me. She

The audience also realizes that death, the extremity of all silences, robs Esteban of his sister, his
wife, his mother, his first love, and then when he dies, the only person he has left, his
granddaughter. Flaubert forces the same detachment between Charles and his family through the
obstacle of silence. Similarly, Charles suffers from separation anxiety when Emma dies, even
though Emma failed to pay much attention to him when she was alive. Charles expresses his grief
for Emma through his depressing thoughts, Emma was lost beneath it; and it seemed to him that,
spreading beyond her own self, she blended confusedly with everything around her the silence, the
ground, the passing wind, the damp odours rising from the ground (Flaubert 307). Charles
hopelessly sacrifices whatever little power Emma allowed him in their relationship. The silence
steals from Charles not only any charge he is entitled to due to his masculinity in the Victorian
time period, but also from his sanity and logic, which he bears in his failure to take care of Berthe.
Contrastingly, Flaubert draws on the picture of silence through Charles s obsession, or lack of
silence, towards Emma. His obsession towards Emma computes to his lack of attention towards his
mother, which she comprehends as abandonment and silence when she

58. The Pros and Cons of Pornography Essay
For centuries, humans have been creating explicit images to depict their sexual fantasies and
desires. Times have drastically changed, however, since the first known sex guide, Kama Sutra,
was illustrated in 5th century India (King 412). The selling of sexually explicit material is a
multibillion dollar industry (King 411). Today, with just the click of a mouse, millions world wide
are able to access pornographyand see their sexual fantasies come to life (King 418). According to

It is no wonder that many women think negatively about most pornographic material. After viewing
pornography, women tend to feel less confident and insecure about their bodies (King, 2012).
If pornography is degrading and uncomfortable for women to watch, why have 41% of women
intentionally viewed porn (King, 2012)? Contrary to the anti pornography feminism movement,
proponents of pornography believe that porn liberates women and allows them to take part in
less traditional sexual behavior (Evans Cicco, 2012). Some women agree with this claim and use
porn to explore their own sexuality (Paul 2012). Pornography for these women is a resource. It is
a method for them to discover new sex positions and ways to act sexy (Paul 2012). According to
Paul, a [change] in women s expectations and attitudes toward their sexuality are driving women to
pornography. This statement indicates that some women want to replicate acts that are presented in
pornographic material. It may also suggest that women believe sexual behaviors used in
pornography are not only the norm, but expected.
To discover if women and men s attitudes about female sexuality have been influenced by
pornography, I will conduct interviews based on the strategies that Sterk used when interviewing
prostitutes. Sterk made it easier for the women to speak about this difficult topic by first building
