Shooting An Elephant Motive
The most obvious motive is peer pressure, a social motive. Despite his personal will, Orwell analyzed
the situation and realized that the people expected it of me and I had got to do it; I could feel their two
thousand wills pressing me forward, irresistibly (3). He justified his motive by saying that he
committed [himself] to doing it when [he] sent for the rifle (3). Although this is understandable,
because he is not the first and not the last to falter before a crowd, it shows that he created new
reasons to do what peer pressure was forcing him to do. The political side of this was that the British
felt that they must live up to the expectations of their colonies, where the ones with power (the British)
ended up having to use that power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most likely a circumstantial motive, Orwell understood that in a normal instance he would not care for
the respect of the natives, but at that moment they did not like [him], but with the magical rifle in [his]
hands [he] was momentarily worth watching , contributing to the pressure not to be laughed at (3).
Throughout Shooting An Elephant , the author repeated that every white man s life in the East was one
long struggle not to be laughed at , which conveys personal motives (3). It is an example of Orwell s
fear of mockery. It also represents the fear of imperialists of a loss of control, which translates into a
political motive. This fear is so strong that it prevails over the fear of death. One of Orwell s motives
stems from a realization he came to years after the experience. Orwell became aware that the
expectations of others force people to behave in ways they do not choose, often contradicting personal
morals. ...[He] did not want to shoot the elephant , nevertheless ...[he] realized that [he] should have to
shoot the elephant after all (3). It is a personal tragedy and a political tragedy in itself because
tyrannical imperialism works against both the imperialists and the

Global Problem Solving And Morals Cross
Global Community Discovery
JaQuita J. Jackson
Ohio Christian University Global Community Discovery
Global problem solving and morals cross in various ways. Clearly, the way in which issues, for
example, environmental change, asset consumption, vicious passing, savage disparities in life chances,
and dangers to biodiversity are drawn nearer and considered, not to mention determined, epitomize
muultiple and significant moral issues. At the most fundamental level, the impression of the presence
of an issue is gotten from a feeling of incongruence between a given circumstance and the qualities the
viewer esteems pertinent to that circumstance. As needs be the structure of qualities that prompts the
esteeming of issues as worldwide issues needs examination. In any case, similarly, issues are not
comprehended in any dynamic or immaterial unbiased or quality free sense. They are determined, or
there is work to determine them, in headings or as per criteria and objectives got from qualities sets.
As needs be, the qualities appended to or fundamental, unequivocally or verifiably, worldwide critical
thinking activities and originations needs examination. There are no less than three fundamental
ranges of convergence of morals and worldwide issues, nearly between related, and each of which has
various consequent particular zones. ( Global ethics and problem solving | Nautilus Institute for
Security and Sustainability, n.d.) Two are mention below.

Mid-Life Crisis Narrative
I watched another man having a mid life crisis, pull out of the Novak car dealership across the street in
a silver convertible. My uncle ran that dealership. I scanned my dad s car lot; the cars were much older
with red numbers written on the windshields, and they were Hondas rather than BMWs. Dad was
having an intense phone call in the dimly lit back office. From where I sat at the desk, I could hear
snippets of the conversation that filtered through the gap through the door.
How long... here? Dad said.
I had no homework, so I swiveled around on my chair, and watched my dad bite his nails as he talked.
No ... get the money... just... Dad caught my eye, and gave me a look that made me turn around again.
Then I heard the door click shut behind me.

Dad smirked at him. Shall we eat?
Uncle James gave a sharp nod, and pulled an office chair over. Mum this looks amazing.
You boys make me feel like I m Gordon Ramsey or something, Nana giggled.
I grabbed a sandwich and started to eat.
Isn t this nice? We never have lunch together anymore. Dennis what s new with you? Nana asked.
I m working on a big deal, Dad said between bites.
I stopped chewing.
Is it going to cost me money? Uncle James asked.
No. I don t need your help.
Well don t send a bill to me later. I won t pay it this time, Uncle James said.
I m fine. This deal is foolproof, Dad said, wiping his fingers on his jeans.

This is. And it s going to turn everything around for me. Just you wait.

Plato s System Of Metaphysics
Adrian Farrales
Introduction to Philosophy
Metaphysics
11/6/14
Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect
and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For
example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world
contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in
Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common
characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually
contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has
flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form
of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato
believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real
world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are
merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense
of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By
doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately

The History of Nonprofit Organizations in America Essay
The nonprofit sector in America is a reflection some of the foundational values that brought our nation
into existence. Fundamentals, such as the idea that people can govern themselves and the belief that
people should have the opportunity to make a difference by joining a like minded group, have made
America and its nonprofit sector what it is today. The American civil society is one that has been
produced through generations of experiments with government policy, nonprofit organizations, private
partnerships, and individuals who have asserted ideas and values. The future of the nonprofit sector
will continue to be experimental in many ways. However, the increase of professional studies in
nonprofit management and the greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
57). Before the Great Depression of the thirties, the popular opinion was that the federal government
should not be heavily involved in providing social welfare. However, the urbanization and
industrialization of the early twentieth century, as well as the economic pressure of the 1930s, proved
to be more than what state and local governments or private organizations could provide for. These
pressures gave way for President Franklin D. Roosevelt to lead America into the New Deal. This
included the creation of the U.S. Social Security Program, unemployment assistance, and needs tested
assistance (Salamon 1999, p.58). Roosevelt s New Deal still left limited coverage, limited funding,
and left much of the delivery of social service to state and local governments. Even with all the
changes that have occurred in federal programs and policy over the years, Salamon shows that
combined state and local governments continued to nearly match the amount of federal spending from
1950 through 1994 (p.59). This again reflects the tension and nature of the American system, which
was intended to lean on the strength of the public to innovate and provide for itself. The debate over
the amount of government involvement in providing assistance for Americans is still a very important
issue as it relates to the role of nonprofit organizations in American society. In the mid 1960s more
reforms were made in response to increased poverty. Lyndon Johnson dreamed of a

San Diego City Analysis
As a person who has now lived in San Diego for over 22 years and a Latino, it is impossible not to see
the medley of direct influences of Hispanic culture in this border town. Because Hispanic people
heavily populate the city and it s proximity to Mexico, representations of this thriving culture can be
found in the city s art, food, religion, architecture, economy, and politics. To get a better understanding
of this, we must start at the beginning.

The Use of Hesse Siddhartha to Reflect the Legendary Atmosphere of Buddha
Siddhartha is one of the names of the historical Gautama, and the life of Hesse s character resembles
that of his historical counterpart to some extent. Siddhartha is by no means a fictional life of Buddha,

The fourth truth is to be brought into being, the truth of the eightfold ariya path leading to the
cessation of suffering. (Robinson)
The first two steps in the Eightfold Path, which leads to the cessation of suffering, are right
understanding and right resolution; a person must first discover and experience the correctness of the
Four Noble Truths, and then resolve to follow the correct path. The next three steps form a kind of
unit: right speech, right behavior, and right livelihood. These reflect the external aspects of a person s
life, which must not be neglected. The interior disciplines constitute the final three steps: right efforts,
right mindfulness, and right contemplation. By this means, the follower of Buddha can arrive at
Nirvana. (Robinson)
Buddhists do not believe in transcendent or any other type of god or gods, the need for a personal
savior, the power of prayer, eternal life in heaven or hell after death as many of the western religions
do. They do believe in reincarnation: the concept that one must go through many cycles of birth, living
and death. After many of these cycles, if a person releases their attachment to desire and the self they
can then attain Nirvana. The teachings of Buddhism effectively deal with the question of human
beings very existence and pursue the surest way toward establishing a secure basis for living. It is a

Seeing a diverse group of riders old and young, male and female the Posse Riders project an open,
inclusive image for Harley.
While the visual promotional effect of the Posse Rides should be exploited as much as possible,
commercializing them should be avoided. The Posse participants are Harley s best customers and this
event should be an opportunity to reward them, not exploit them. The indirect benefits, such as
building brand awareness and loyalty, are much more important than short term sales. Given the wide
differences in income, raising prices and/or offering special amenities for additional costs, will simply
drive off working class participants that blow their annual wad on one rally. This would change the
nature of the Posse from an open, inclusive group to a rich, closed one.
The Posse Rides should also continue to maintain their exclusivity. If everyone can get a Posse T shirt
because of merchandising they will not be worth having to real Posse Riders. Keeping the number of
participants small also adds to the feeling of exclusivity, as well as only having a Posse Rides no more
than once a year. This should also help to maintain a feeling of spontaneity that is missing from
regional HOG events.
Next Steps/Recommendations to Maximize Effectiveness and Profitability

Introduction
Children are one of the vulnerable section of the society and victims of different kinds of exploitation.
All the atrocities, instability in the society directly and indirectly make impact on children. Children in
armed conflict one of such group in the society who is vulnerable and prone to many exploitation. The
relationship of the child with war can be categorised into two. One is children are impacted by the war
by losing their shelter, their identity their family and the rights. Second they are involved in the war in
the form of child soldiers by force. When a war or conflict take place all the thing surrounded with the
place where the conflict happened will be get disturbed all the people living or related to that
particular place get affected. The severe effects will be suffered by the children in that place as they
are the most vulnerable section. The internationally agreed definition for a child associated with an

Literary Analysis
The Road Not Taken Robert Frost s poem The Road Not Taken describes a traveler faced with a
choice of which one of two roads to travel. He knows not where either road might lead. In order to
continue on his journey, he can pick only one road. He scrutinizes both roads for the possibilities of
where they may take him in his travels. Frost s traveler realizes that regret is inevitable. Regardless of
his choice, he knows that he will miss the experiences he might have encountered on the road not
taken. Images in the poem reflect the difficulties of the choice the traveler faces. The difficulty is

He predicts that he will always remember this moment of choice and will be telling it with a sigh (16)
when he is old. His choice will have made all the difference (20) and affected his whole journey. Frost
creates a tone of inevitability that no matter what the choice, there will always be regret. Frost presents
the traveler s choice of paths as a metaphor for the difficult decisions a person must make in life. The
divergent paths are the choices to be made at various points along the way. Regardless of how he tries,
the traveler cannot see beyond where the path is bent in the undergrowth (5). Likewise, nobody can
predict what effect one choice will have on his life. The traveler sees the two paths as very similar or
just as fair (6). As much as the traveler would like to return to the diverging roads, he realizes that he
will not get another chance to travel the other path. With maturity comes a resignation that a choice
has affected a person s life and there is no going back. He also tries to make the best of his decision by
saying that it has made all the difference. (20). In The Road Not Taken , images of the bright woods
and wide open opportunity to choose are contrasted with the indecision and regret of only being able
to travel one path. Word choice and a slight sorrowful tone reinforce the theme of regret. Frost
presents divergent roads as a metaphor for the choices a person must make in life. The traveler s rueful

May 3, 2017 Their Eyes Were Watching God In this story, I have found that the themes that have stood
out to me is gender and love. These themes have captured a major thematic idea by gender being
discriminated against the women and the men. Gender is described as women being weaker than the
men and men being the powerful ones. Love is described in this story as independent until it is found.
Finding love is a part of life and everybody tries to find it but when it is found, it seems like you have
lived you life to the fullest. These examples of the themes can be brought into the real world and can
affect how people live their lives.
My first theme is going to be about gender. In the novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender can happen in the real world which can lead to personal experiences. I have experienced some
gender inequality throughout my life and have had family situations since I have been alive. For
instance, my parents lived in a time where men went to work and the women had to clean, cook, and
stuff around the house. I have experienced some problems myself by my brother and I having to do
outside yard work while my sister only does inside work. She claims that yard work is for men and it s
a man s job. . What I have to say about that is that men and women don t need to do work based off if
it is a man or woman s job, work is work and you shouldn t base it off gender inequality. Another
situation I was faced with was when my mom was trying to get a job, she was trying to get a job at
selling Tupperware. She was faced with you can t sell Tupperware because you are a woman and
people don t buy stuff off of women. . She sticked with her gut and went for it, now she is very
successful in her business and doesn t let what a guy said to her stop her.
Another theme I chose from the story was love. Love can be a powerful thing or a devastating thing.
For example, After that she came to where Joe Starks was waiting for her with a hired rig. He was
very solemn and helped her to the seat beside him. With him on it, it sat like some high, ruling chair.

Argumentative Essay On The Glass Castle
Regularly, the finger of fault is uprightly pointed at parents who are unsuccessful at obligation in
bringing up the child. On the off chance that parents mishandled their child, does not offer him/her
security, and ignore his/her needs, society instantly criticizes them. As the child grows up, he or she
even may feel disgraced by his/her parent. Nevertheless, occasionally, all it takes for the child to
totally excuse the disappointments of the parent is for he/she to meet the child s basic needs and/or
wants. In the book, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls is characterized as that child, describing her
most loved youthful memories she went through with her dad, Rex Walls, while looking at the best
snapshots of her life, paying little respect to Rex s conspicuous negligence and devastation that
negatively impacted different parts of her life. One of the many themes in The Glass Castle is that
people need to forgive not just for the benefit of the person who has been wronged but for themselves
to move forward.
Jeannette Walls memoir The Glass Castle, is about her growing up with parents whose beliefs and
persistent rebelliousness was both their curse and their salvation. The book starts when Walls is four
years of age; she is gullible and energetic, and trusts her dad can t take the blame no matter what. The
family ventures a great deal, living in Las Vegas, Blythe, and Battle Mountain (Nevada), San
Francisco (California), Phoenix (Arizona), Welch (West Virginia), and New York City. Additionally, a
great part of Walls memories happens while her family is in their car, traveling to new places. As the
book advances, and she hits her pre adolescent years, she turns out to be less innocent and starts to
acknowledge how strange her family truly is. Jeanette has a kind identity, she learns all through the
novel to act naturally, dismissive and strong. As the brokenness of the family is raised, Walls and her
siblings fought for themselves, supporting each other through their parents neglect and, finally, find
the advantages and will to leave home.
People need to have faith that things will work out for the best in the end. After all the neglect Walls
experiences; sexual abuse at the hands of outsiders and relatives,

Tesco We make what matters better, together
Here are 5 of their main stakeholders:
Customers
Employees
Suppliers
Investors
Government
Customers
The customer s interest within Tesco would be that they would want to buy a range of products that
are of a high quality or receive or a good service from Tesco. If the customers do not receive the
products/services they have paid for they would be unhappy with Tesco, which could mean that they
may move to a competitor, causing Tesco to be losing customers and could also mean that, Tesco
would get a negative reputation from this and can further reduce the amount of customers that go
there. This shows that customers have a big influence for Tesco, as Tesco would need them as a source
of income. Tesco wouldn t be meeting their aims if they didn t have customers because they wouldn t
be making a profit and wouldn t be making what matters better, together (which is their purpose).
Employees
The employees are related to Tesco as they work for them and they are a part of their team, who try to
provide a good level of service for customers. The employees represent Tesco as they are the first
point of contact for customers to use (when they are in a Tesco store) which means that the employees
would have to provide a customer friendly service and meet all of their customers needs. If

Plumbing During The Roman Empire Essay
The water toilet may be a modern invention, but plumbing has existed since 2700 BC with the
civilizations of the Indus Valley designing the first plumbing system for its people. However, among
the ancient civilizations that became vast civilizations, the Romans attained the use of plumbing and
toilets into an art, so much that an individual from the past decade could go to Ancient Rome and
understand everything about an ancient toilet easily, even if the lack of comfort might seem unsettling
at first. When it comes to plumbing history, all roads, literally, lead to the Roman Empire. Plumbing
technology, as well as, the plumbing profession flourished during the Roman Empire in such a way
that was not able to be duplicated for one thousand years. The advances in aquifers, sewage, and
drainage the Romans made, are still some of the same designs plumbers use today.
The Romans, as we now understand, had a slight fixation with aqueducts and baths, to keep their royal
family hygienectically clean, as well as appealing, and Rome s citizen s hygiene up to date; kind of
hygiene freaks, they were. However, Because of this, plumbing became a profession in its own sense,
and the ancient plumber became a trade that would be used, literally around the world. Indoor
plumbing was not for everyone, only most wealthy could afford it, and they were charged for the use
of public water, and the network that fed the water with a fee based on the size of each pipe they used

Point Of View Of The Book Peter Pan
Genre:In the book Peter Pan by J.M Barrie I know this book is a fiction book because they talk about
fairys and a magical place called NeverLand. In NeverLand is TinkerBell she is one of the fairys that i
talked about she is also Peters best friend. This shows that the book Peter Pan is a fiction story based
on its details and illustrations. Point of View: This story is third person point of view because there is a
narrator that is telling the story. It is not first person point of view because they do not use personal
pronouns. And it is not second person point of view because they do not use words like we. These
show that it is third person point of view and not first person or second person point of view.

The rest of them are just friends. The lost boys are just boys that fell out of their cribs when nobody
was looking. Antagonist: The character that is making the main character react the most is Captain
Hook he is just mad because Peter chopped off half of his right hand and fed it to a crocodile and he
also ate a clock that still ticks and whenever he heard it he would act strangely to his mates. Setting:
The story takes place in NeverLand somewhere in the 1990 s part. They did not know what time of the
day it was except for morning and night because they did not have time they did not even know what
day of the week it was because ever since they left London they lost track of time and of the day.
Conflict: The main problem in the story is that Captain Hook wants to capture Peter and his crew but
really Peter himself. He wants revenge on him because he fed his arm to a crocodile and ever since
then he has been afraid of that crocodile but really the ticking sound. That is also the problem because
Peter helped the indians and Captain Hook hates the indians. Plot Events: Some of the major

Abstract/Overview: The research was performed by Michael Otto. et al, at the Pathogen Molecular

Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The leading cause of

A biofilm s main component is its polysaccharide intercellular adhesion (PIA) which plays a major
role in the bacte rias ability to agglomerate. This polysaccharide as well as, polymeric proteins,
teichoic acids, and extracellular DNA forms a matrix that protects the bacteria, rendering even the
strongest doses of antibiotics ineffective. In previous research, they found that S. aureus uses surface
attached proteins such as fibrin which is available in the infected joint due to its role recovery of
injured tissues. They found that bacteria mutants that cannot utilize fibrinogen were unable to form the
macroscopic complexes. In this study, they focused on finding a mechanistic way that S. aureus forms
these ex tremely large biofilms in synovial fluid by testing altered expressions of specific bacterial
factors. They also tested the Agr gene and PSM s roles in formation of biofilms. Quorum sensing is
known to play a major role in the expression of virulence factors. Agr (a quorum sensing system)
deletion causes unregulated and non structured biolfilm production. PSMs are largely in control of Agr
in the production of biofilms. The PSM operon promoter is directly bound to the AgrA re sponse

PSM alpha 1 through 4 peptides, while the PSM beta locus

seeing a sales decline in 20 of The Coop s 76 stores. The average decline in sales for these 20 stores
was 6%. His top two managers, Anita McMichael, VP of Quality and Trevor Wallace, VP of
Marketing, were working with Buckmeister to figure out why customers weren t spending as much

There exists the potential of using the results of the surveys to pay bonuses to everyone from line
employees to vice presidents. Such an incentive scheme could help focus employee attention on

to gather information on how customers viewed their visits to The Coop restaurants. The program
would involve using an outside company, which would hire individuals to visit Coop restaurants and
the individual would have no knowledge of who was paying for the research. The cost of this would
be approximately $20 per visit, or a total of $45,600 for an entire year. While Wallace s ideas are
expensive, they will provide The Coop with the most in depth research. When offering
recommendations, one has much to consider. Primarily, while Buckmeister s ideas have some
potential to be effective, market research cannot be approached with the mindset of providing the
business with a quick and easy fix. To truly understand consumers, both of his options are not in depth
enough and contain too small of a sample size. I think that each of Buckmeister s ideas should be
implemented as they are both relatively inexpensive (focus groups and comment cards) but they must
be supplemented by a larger and more in depth form of market research. I believe that McMicheal s
suggestion of taste tests should be eliminated from consideration. Sales at The Coop are not

organizations. However, ICICI managed to identify its customer segments very aptly and design an
offering for each of these segments in order to maximize the value it offered to these customer

Summary Of Chris Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau
To some, adventurers like Chris McCandless are young, idealistic, and resolute people with high
moral standards. They want to take everything they can out of life, and they want to experience every
facet of it. However, this isn t a view everyone shares. To others, McCandless was an irrational kid
with no experience who couldn t handle his family issues. On the other hand, Henry David Thoreau is
viewed as a calm, steady, and contemplative man with a dedicated love of nature. Chris McCandless
and Henry David Thoreau share many similarities, but they also have defining differences. Chris was
different from Thoreau because he was running from his past whereas Thoreau wanted to go to the
woods, and Chris overestimated himself whereas Thoreau was more level headed, but they were
similar in that they both didn t believe in material objects. Chris went into the wild because he wanted
to escape his past and because of his general hatred towards prejudice against society, while Thoreau
was more positively motivated to go to the wilderness. His motivation to go to the woods was
negative because he was running away from something. Although his friends and family described
him as very independent and motivated to go against everything he was taught, his real motivation
was because of his family struggles. Chris s father, Walt, never fully divorced his ex wife, Marcia, and
he still had relations with her despite being married to Billie. When Billie found out, she was very
hurt, and so were Walt and Marcia. However, to make amends, Walt finalized the divorce with Marcia.
They resolved the problem and moved on. When Chris unearthed this truth, he was unbelievably
upset, but he didn t address it directly. Instead, he waited years to talk about it, occasionally shunning
his parents and judging them behind their backs. Chris was very self righteous, and he took every
opportunity to denounce his father even though the issue of the divorce had been resolved. He
expressed his anger in a very passive way, and because he never found real closure, his anger
accumulated. He decided to release his anger indirectly. This is why he took classes on racial
inequality, and why he was so mad about poverty in the United States. His outrage

Limiting Children s Access to Internet Pornography
Pornography is one of mankind s most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use
pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of
the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only
downside is that the Internet is accessible to children; therefore, pornography is accessible to children.
While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this

The Internet has experienced an extraordinary growth. The number of host computers—those that store
information and relay communications—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately 9,400,000
by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40
million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200
million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with user numbers at
200 million?
Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the user
wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the identity of the
user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but credit card numbers
are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a number of sites dedicated
to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be the first step in what will
protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such site, Mcgruff.com, gives
Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the Internet, and how to let parents
know if there are any materials or persons online that makes a child feel uncomfortable. In addition,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Qfd
2.3 Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Quality function deployment (QFD) is originally developed
by Dr. Yoji Akao in Japan in 1966. It had been implemented by Dr. S. Mizuno. QFD is a method to
transform requirements of customers to products design. The purpose of QFD is to investigate the
most important elements to develop product that closely meet the needs of customers. According to
Akao (1990), QFD is one of the technique to ensure the design quality while the product is still in the
design stage. There are several benefits for using QFD. One of the benefits of QFD is customer
driven. This help the companies to focus on the voice of the customers. Besides, QFD allows the

(Bracknell, 2012). The Prosecutor of the ICC charged Thomas Lubanga Dyilo with the war crime of

children under the age of fifteen to participate actively in hostilities. The prosecutor requested a 30

The author points out that a nation is not a product in the conventional sense . The Nation itself can
hardly be changed, the benefits are purely emotional, the Image is complicated and the ownership is
unclear. A nation brand is not centered on any specific product, service or cause that can be promoted
directly to the customer. But Nation branding concerns a countries whole image, covering political,
economic, historical and cultural dimensions. A Nation has not one but multiple images. What image
is retrieved depends on the audience , the context and the time. The author finds out that negative
national image does not necessarily affect the purchase of products made by that country, by giving
the example of Japan and China. The author tries to find out the direction of the correlation between
countries that have produced strong brands and those that are strong brands themselves . Nation
branding must be distinctive and help the country to position itself against competitors . A difficulty is

Toddler Classroom Observation
Toddlers and preschoolers are at different developmental stages, and therefore require their teachers to
use different approaches and techniques to further learning. I completed my observations at the Bright
and Early Children s Learning Center where I observed a toddler classroom and a preschool
classroom. My observations took place from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on the 21st and 28th of September.
The first day that I observed I was placed in the toddler classroom which had two teachers, Miss
Ashlynn and Miss Miranda, and six students, most of whom were two years old. In the preschool
classroom there was one teacher, Miss Stephanie, and eight students, each of whom were 3 years old
or 4 years old. While the rooms were physically similar, the teachers used different strategies and
activities to appeal to the different age groups. In the toddler classroom, the children interacted with
each other, however many of them were more interested in playing and exploring on their own. The
children enjoyed free play at learning centers, story time, and outside play during my observation. The
toddlers preferred parallel play in which the children used similar toys in similar ways, but did not
interact with each other. For example, when one child began playing with the kitchen toys in the
dramatic play center, soon all of the children began playing with the available plastic food items.
However, the children were more interested in showing the teachers what they were doing and

Informative Essay On Wrestling
The sport of wrestling has been going on for thousands of years. Our earliest ancestors have been

Why do I call the title ancient you ask, well it s because wrestling has been on earth for a very long

sport that they had played. The wresting though would get very violent at some points and get messy.

The Importance Of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
You can help your baby to sleep safe and sound by keeping the temperature in his room between 16
degrees C and 20 degrees C. Many baby monitors come with thermometers built in. If yours doesn t, a
basic room thermometer will help you to keep an eye on the temperature.
It s important to make sure your baby isn t too hot or too cold. If your baby gets too hot, he may be
more at risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death. SIDS is uncommon in
babies who are less than a month old and most common during their second month. Nearly 90 per cent
of cases of SIDS happen in babies under six months old. But the risk reduces as your baby grows
older, and very few cases of SIDS happen after a year.
If you think your baby is getting too hot, check his tummy or the back of his neck. This is the best way
to check his core temperature. If he feels hot, or if he s sweaty, remove a layer and check him again.
Don t worry if your baby s hands and feet feel cool, as this is completely normal. ... Show more

  • 2. Shooting An Elephant Motive The most obvious motive is peer pressure, a social motive. Despite his personal will, Orwell analyzed the situation and realized that the people expected it of me and I had got to do it; I could feel their two thousand wills pressing me forward, irresistibly (3). He justified his motive by saying that he committed [himself] to doing it when [he] sent for the rifle (3). Although this is understandable, because he is not the first and not the last to falter before a crowd, it shows that he created new reasons to do what peer pressure was forcing him to do. The political side of this was that the British felt that they must live up to the expectations of their colonies, where the ones with power (the British) ended up having to use that power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most likely a circumstantial motive, Orwell understood that in a normal instance he would not care for the respect of the natives, but at that moment they did not like [him], but with the magical rifle in [his] hands [he] was momentarily worth watching , contributing to the pressure not to be laughed at (3). Throughout Shooting An Elephant , the author repeated that every white man s life in the East was one long struggle not to be laughed at , which conveys personal motives (3). It is an example of Orwell s fear of mockery. It also represents the fear of imperialists of a loss of control, which translates into a political motive. This fear is so strong that it prevails over the fear of death. One of Orwell s motives stems from a realization he came to years after the experience. Orwell became aware that the expectations of others force people to behave in ways they do not choose, often contradicting personal morals. ...[He] did not want to shoot the elephant , nevertheless ...[he] realized that [he] should have to shoot the elephant after all (3). It is a personal tragedy and a political tragedy in itself because tyrannical imperialism works against both the imperialists and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Global Problem Solving And Morals Cross Global Community Discovery JaQuita J. Jackson Ohio Christian University Global Community Discovery Global problem solving and morals cross in various ways. Clearly, the way in which issues, for example, environmental change, asset consumption, vicious passing, savage disparities in life chances, and dangers to biodiversity are drawn nearer and considered, not to mention determined, epitomize muultiple and significant moral issues. At the most fundamental level, the impression of the presence of an issue is gotten from a feeling of incongruence between a given circumstance and the qualities the viewer esteems pertinent to that circumstance. As needs be the structure of qualities that prompts the esteeming of issues as worldwide issues needs examination. In any case, similarly, issues are not comprehended in any dynamic or immaterial unbiased or quality free sense. They are determined, or there is work to determine them, in headings or as per criteria and objectives got from qualities sets. As needs be, the qualities appended to or fundamental, unequivocally or verifiably, worldwide critical thinking activities and originations needs examination. There are no less than three fundamental ranges of convergence of morals and worldwide issues, nearly between related, and each of which has various consequent particular zones. • 4. Mid-Life Crisis Narrative I watched another man having a mid life crisis, pull out of the Novak car dealership across the street in a silver convertible. My uncle ran that dealership. I scanned my dad s car lot; the cars were much older with red numbers written on the windshields, and they were Hondas rather than BMWs. Dad was having an intense phone call in the dimly lit back office. From where I sat at the desk, I could hear snippets of the conversation that filtered through the gap through the door. How long... here? Dad said. I had no homework, so I swiveled around on my chair, and watched my dad bite his nails as he talked. No ... get the money... just... Nothing in business is foolproof, Dennis, Uncle James said. This is. • 5. Plato s System Of Metaphysics Adrian Farrales Introduction to Philosophy Metaphysics 11/6/14 Plato s system of metaphysics revolves around the concept of Eidos, or forms. A form is the perfect and truest instance of a particular idea. In the world, we find particular instances of each form. For example, a certain pen is a particular instance of the form of pen. Every single pen in the world contributes to the form of pen. This contribution of particulars to the forms is called mathexis in Greek, or simply, participation. The participation of all particulars help to define and derive common characteristics of the form. Using the pen example, all pens function as a writing utensil, usually contain some form of ink, and generally are cylindrical. Every pen is somewhat imperfect and has flaws of some sort. Regarding ontology, these forms are the highest level of reality and the purest form of existence, while the particulars are imperfect and cheap imitations. Regarding our senses, Plato believed that the world we live in, that is the world of particulars, is an illusion because the most real world would be the world of the forms. Thus our senses are not accurate and our sense perceptions are merely copies of the forms. Plato exemplifies this in the allegory of the cave, portraying a false sense of reality. Plato believed that these forms are innate to human beings, as we were born with them. By doing philosophy, we undergo a process of recollection of these forms, ultimately ... • 6. The History of Nonprofit Organizations in America Essay The nonprofit sector in America is a reflection some of the foundational values that brought our nation into existence. Fundamentals, such as the idea that people can govern themselves and the belief that people should have the opportunity to make a difference by joining a like minded group, have made America and its nonprofit sector what it is today. The American civil society is one that has been produced through generations of experiments with government policy, nonprofit organizations, private partnerships, and individuals who have asserted ideas and values. The future of the nonprofit sector will continue to be experimental in many ways. However, the increase of professional studies in nonprofit management and the greater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 57). Before the Great Depression of the thirties, the popular opinion was that the federal government should not be heavily involved in providing social welfare. However, the urbanization and industrialization of the early twentieth century, as well as the economic pressure of the 1930s, proved to be more than what state and local governments or private organizations could provide for. These pressures gave way for President Franklin D. Roosevelt to lead America into the New Deal. This included the creation of the U.S. Social Security Program, unemployment assistance, and needs tested assistance (Salamon 1999, p.58). Roosevelt s New Deal still left limited coverage, limited funding, and left much of the delivery of social service to state and local governments. Even with all the changes that have occurred in federal programs and policy over the years, Salamon shows that combined state and local governments continued to nearly match the amount of federal spending from 1950 through 1994 (p.59). This again reflects the tension and nature of the American system, which was intended to lean on the strength of the public to innovate and provide for itself. The debate over the amount of government involvement in providing assistance for Americans is still a very important issue as it relates to the role of nonprofit organizations in American society. In the mid 1960s more reforms were made in response to increased poverty. Lyndon Johnson dreamed of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

San Diego City Analysis As a person who has now lived in San Diego for over 22 years and a Latino, it is impossible not to see the medley of direct influences of Hispanic culture in this border town. Because Hispanic people heavily populate the city and it s proximity to Mexico, representations of this thriving culture can be found in the city s art, food, religion, architecture, economy, and politics. To get a better understanding of this, we must start at the beginning. Californio is a term used to identify a Spanish speaking, mostly Roman Catholic people, or of Latin American descent, regardless of race, born in California from the first Spanish colonies established by the Portola expedition in 1769 to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, in which Mexico ceded ... His choice will have made all the difference (20) and affected his whole journey. Frost creates a tone of inevitability that no matter what the choice, there will always be regret. Frost presents the traveler s choice of paths as a metaphor for the difficult decisions a person must make in life. The divergent paths are the choices to be made at various points along the way. Regardless of how he tries, the traveler cannot see beyond where the path is bent in the undergrowth (5). Likewise, nobody can predict what effect one choice will have on his life. The traveler sees the two paths as very similar or just as fair (6). As much as the traveler would like to return to the diverging roads, he realizes that he will not get another chance to travel the other path. With maturity comes a resignation that a choice has affected a person s life and there is no going back. He also tries to make the best of his decision by saying that it has made all the difference. (20). In The Road Not Taken , images of the bright woods and wide open opportunity to choose are contrasted with the indecision and regret of only being able to travel one path. Word choice and a slight sorrowful tone reinforce the theme of regret. Frost presents divergent roads as a metaphor for the choices a person must make in life. On the off chance that parents mishandled their child, does not offer him/her security, and ignore his/her needs, society instantly criticizes them. As the child grows up, he or she even may feel disgraced by his/her parent. Nevertheless, occasionally, all it takes for the child to totally excuse the disappointments of the parent is for he/she to meet the child s basic needs and/or wants. In the book, The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls is characterized as that child, describing her most loved youthful memories she went through with her dad, Rex Walls, while looking at the best snapshots of her life, paying little respect to Rex s conspicuous negligence and devastation that negatively impacted different parts of her life. One of the many themes in The Glass Castle is that people need to forgive not just for the benefit of the person who has been wronged but for themselves to move forward. Jeannette Walls memoir The Glass Castle, is about her growing up with parents whose beliefs and persistent rebelliousness was both their curse and their salvation. The book starts when Walls is four years of age; she is gullible and energetic, and trusts her dad can t take the blame no matter what. The family ventures a great deal, living in Las Vegas, Blythe, and Battle Mountain (Nevada), San Francisco (California), Phoenix (Arizona), Welch (West Virginia), and New York City. Additionally, a great part of Walls memories happens while her family is in their car, traveling to new places. As the book advances, and she hits her pre adolescent years, she turns out to be less innocent and starts to acknowledge how strange her family truly is. Jeanette has a kind identity, she learns all through the novel to act naturally, dismissive and strong. As the brokenness of the family is raised, Walls and her siblings fought for themselves, supporting each other through their parents neglect and, finally, find the advantages and will to leave home. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A biofilm s main component is its polysaccharide intercellular adhesion (PIA) which plays a major role in the bacte rias ability to agglomerate. This polysaccharide as well as, polymeric proteins, teichoic acids, and extracellular DNA forms a matrix that protects the bacteria, rendering even the strongest doses of antibiotics ineffective. In previous research, they found that S. aureus uses surface attached proteins such as fibrin which is available in the infected joint due to its role recovery of injured tissues. They found that bacteria mutants that cannot utilize fibrinogen were unable to form the macroscopic complexes. In this study, they focused on finding a mechanistic way that S. aureus forms these ex tremely large biofilms in synovial fluid by testing altered expressions of specific bacterial factors. They also tested the Agr gene and PSM s roles in formation of biofilms. Quorum sensing is known to play a major role in the expression of virulence factors. Agr (a quorum sensing system) deletion causes unregulated and non structured biolfilm production. PSMs are largely in control of Agr in the production of biofilms. • 28. Summary Of Chris Mccandless And Henry David Thoreau To some, adventurers like Chris McCandless are young, idealistic, and resolute people with high moral standards. They want to take everything they can out of life, and they want to experience every facet of it. However, this isn t a view everyone shares. To others, McCandless was an irrational kid with no experience who couldn t handle his family issues. On the other hand, Henry David Thoreau is viewed as a calm, steady, and contemplative man with a dedicated love of nature. Chris McCandless and Henry David Thoreau share many similarities, but they also have defining differences. Chris was different from Thoreau because he was running from his past whereas Thoreau wanted to go to the woods, and Chris overestimated himself whereas Thoreau was more level headed, but they were similar in that they both didn t believe in material objects. Chris went into the wild because he wanted to escape his past and because of his general hatred towards prejudice against society, while Thoreau was more positively motivated to go to the wilderness. His motivation to go to the woods was negative because he was running away from something. Although his friends and family described him as very independent and motivated to go against everything he was taught, his real motivation was because of his family struggles. Chris s father, Walt, never fully divorced his ex wife, Marcia, and he still had relations with her despite being married to Billie. When Billie found out, she was very hurt, and so were Walt and Marcia. However, to make amends, Walt finalized the divorce with Marcia. They resolved the problem and moved on. When Chris unearthed this truth, he was unbelievably upset, but he didn t address it directly. Instead, he waited years to talk about it, occasionally shunning his parents and judging them behind their backs. Chris was very self righteous, and he took every opportunity to denounce his father even though the issue of the divorce had been resolved. He expressed his anger in a very passive way, and because he never found real closure, his anger accumulated. He decided to release his anger indirectly. This is why he took classes on racial inequality, and why he was so mad about poverty in the United States. His outrage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adults can use pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only downside is that the Internet is accessible to children; therefore, pornography is accessible to children. While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this concubine. Usage of Internet pornography grows rapidly every day. The number of host computers—those that store information and relay communications—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately 9,400,000 by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200 million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with user numbers at 200 million? Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the user wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the identity of the user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but credit card numbers are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a number of sites dedicated to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be the first step in what will protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such site, Mcgruff.com, gives Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the Internet, and how to let parents know if there are any materials or persons online that makes a child feel uncomfortable. As our society becomes more and more globalized, international relations have become a necessity. As a result, nowadays we have such organizations as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations (UN), and other that unite many countries by common goals such as preventing conflicts and solving existing disputes. The Prosecutor of the ICC charged Thomas Lubanga Dyilo with the war crime of enlisting children under the age of fifteen; conscripting children under the age of fifteen; and using children under the age of fifteen to participate actively in hostilities. The prosecutor requested a 30 year sentence, or 20 years should Lubanga submit a genuine apology and commit to working to prevent future crimes and promote peace (ICC, 2012). It is interesting to note the offer of a reduced sentence with an apology statement. Lubanga was convicted in March 2012 of the war crimes and was sentenced to fourteen years in jail. This was the first verdict of the ICC since it was set up over ten years ago, and a huge landmark case. The other case that has actually made it to trial was more recent. In December of 2012 a former senior commander of the Bosnian Serb Army, Zdravko Tolimir, was convicted of genocide and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the killings of thousands of prisoners in Bosnia. The Nation itself can hardly be changed, the benefits are purely emotional, the Image is complicated and the ownership is unclear. A nation brand is not centered on any specific product, service or cause that can be promoted directly to the customer. But Nation branding concerns a countries whole image, covering political, economic, historical and cultural dimensions. A Nation has not one but multiple images. What image is retrieved depends on the audience , the context and the time. The author finds out that negative national image does not necessarily affect the purchase of products made by that country, by giving the example of Japan and China. • 33. Toddler Classroom Observation Toddlers and preschoolers are at different developmental stages, and therefore require their teachers to use different approaches and techniques to further learning. I completed my observations at the Bright and Early Children s Learning Center where I observed a toddler classroom and a preschool classroom. My observations took place from 8:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. on the 21st and 28th of September. The first day that I observed I was placed in the toddler classroom which had two teachers, Miss Ashlynn and Miss Miranda, and six students, most of whom were two years old. In the preschool classroom there was one teacher, Miss Stephanie, and eight students, each of whom were 3 years old or 4 years old. While the rooms were physically similar, the teachers used different strategies and activities to appeal to the different age groups. In the toddler classroom, the children interacted with each other, however many of them were more interested in playing and exploring on their own. The children enjoyed free play at learning centers, story time, and outside play during my observation. The toddlers preferred parallel play in which the children used similar toys in similar ways, but did not interact with each other. For example, when one child began playing with the kitchen toys in the dramatic play center, soon all of the children began playing with the available plastic food items. However, the children were more interested in showing the teachers what they were doing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wrestling to me has been the toughest sport I have had to participate in so far in my athletic career. Like I said in the upper paragraph is that its been here on earth since back to the cave paintings found in France. Now wrestling to the Greeks was very big in their history. It was their number one sport that they had played. The wresting though would get very violent at some points and get messy. Wrestling was also big in other places like England. Many baby monitors come with thermometers built in. If yours doesn t, a basic room thermometer will help you to keep an eye on the temperature. It s important to make sure your baby isn t too hot or too cold. If your baby gets too hot, he may be more at risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also known as cot death. SIDS is uncommon in babies who are less than a month old and most common during their second month. Nearly 90 per cent of cases of SIDS happen in babies under six months old. But the risk reduces as your baby grows older, and very few cases of SIDS happen after a year. If you think your baby is getting too hot, check his tummy or the back of his neck.
