Censorship Of Books
In Defense of the Constitution: We Want YOU to Free the Books Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire once
said, I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it ,
which is unfortunately not the common opinion amongst advocates of censorship across America
today (Tallentyre). Withdrawing books from the reachable shelves of libraries and schools across
America is leading to the inexcusable realm of conformity that is being found in the nation, and world,
today. Suppressing history, warping First Amendment rights, and clouding culture, the censorship of
literature in today s world is ultimately impacting society as a whole. Advisors, teachers, and
administrators everywhere are undermining student s intelligence ... Show more content on

Since the release of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, a startling memoir
recounting the author s troubling childhood, it has been challenged by 15 U.S. states and removed
from countless libraries across the country, landing it an almost permanent spot on the American
Library Association s 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books (ALA). Angelou s brutally honest
depictions of rape and racism are off putting to many parents across America, leading them to want to
safeguard their children from what are absolutely important, relevant topics in today s society. This
buffer that adults create is exactly what drives the problem within society people in positions of power
are building walls surrounding youths, keeping the truthful, harsh problems of reality out, only letting
the youth read and learn from what has been deemed acceptable . This view of society is what I call
second eye blind ; because of censorship, children are viewing the world with one eye closed. While
these advocates exhort against the dangers of these writings, they are ultimately misconstruing and
distorting the messages behind author s writing, instead of reading and learning from it

Paul Cezanne Essay
PAUL CÉZANNE
Post Impressionism, as the name would suggest, is the art movement that directly followed
Impressionism. One artist, who led the Post Impressionism movement, was French artist, Paul
Cézanne. Much of his early work was pure Impressionism and, although he was introduced to the
style and guided by Camille Pissarro, Cézanne s works showed a distinctive uniqueness. Cézanne
broke away from Impressionism because of the lack of composition; he felt the desire to depict
subjects in the third dimension as well as appearing flat. Cézanne did not agree with the
Impressionistic trait of portraying the world through light, instead, he built up images by a generous
use of colour. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not have the same attraction towards light as did many Impressionist, he believed that the
structure of objects should be portrayed through colour, not light, quot;I seek to render perspective
only through colour quot;. Cézanne created the illusion of depth in his works by adding numerous
layers of colour to distinguish the form of his subjects. He would perfect the design in his works by
distorting objects and having multiple viewpoints on the same object. In quot;Still Life with Apples
and Peaches quot; (1905), the table is seen from two different sides, as well as from above and some
of the objects on the table are viewed front on, while others are viewed from above.
Cézanne would create a 3D effect in his works by giving each object many planes he would add to this
effect with his vast use of colours. He took advantage of how warm colours (reds and oranges) and
cool colours (blues and greens) draw the eye closer or push it away. An example of this is in
quot;Mont Ste. Victoire Seen from Bibemus Quarry quot; (1898 1906), the mountain in the
background use blues and greys to emphasise its position in relation to other objects. The boulders in
the foreground demonstrate Cézanne s use of planes; the areas that protrude are in blocks of red,
whereas the areas that are sunken in are in blocks of orange or yellow, giving the impression that it has
many faces.

Deception In Memoirs Of A Geisha By Arthur Golden
Thesis:
In the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden the theme of deception is prominent. Through
the deception experienced by Sayuri, golden teaches his readers that deception can hurt but it can lead
to something better.
Methods of development:
Deception from Mr. Tanaka
I couldn t stop thinking about Mr.Tanaka. He had taken me away from my mother and father, sold me
into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had taken him as a kind man. I thought he
was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid child I had been. I would never go back to Yoroido, I
decided. Or if I did , it would only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. (Golden pg.82)
But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best and worst of my
life. (Golden pg.7)
Sayuri admired Mr. Tanaka and wanted to become his adopted daughter, after being taken away from
her home she was extremely hurt and felt stupid for believing in him.
She felt as though her life would never be the same again, and even tried to run away risking her
chances of becoming a Geisha.
Sayuri eventually benefited from this as she herself noticed that living in Gion allowed her to become
much more successful allowing her to take care of herself. She recognized that if she had remained in
Yoroido she would have never been able to achieve success and that she would still be living in her
little tipsy house with little to support herself.
Coming to Gion is also the reason she meet the

Analyzing Hilda Doolittle s Poem Helen
HELENNNNNN Helen of Troy is a prominent character in Greek mythology who is known for her
beauty which caused the Trojan War. She is often viewed as a one dimensional character who
singularly represents beauty. However, in Hilda Doolittle s poem entitled Helen , she uses an analysis
of the image of Helen to support feminism. Her poem, written with three stanzas, describes a change
in Helen s personal state in order to emphasize the negative effects of assuming that beauty indicates
an absence of personality. Doolittle begins by describing, in simple terms, Greece s unanimous hate
towards the character Helen, whose beauty tears apart Greece. By describing Helen as still and white,
Doolittle conveys strong imagery of a conspicuous lack of motion. All Greece hates / the still eyes in
the white face... where she stands... (H.D. 2 4). Helen, who is described as white and standing, appears
very statuesque and immobile to readers. Interestingly, her eyes are said to have a lustre as of olives .

6). Here the verb has changed noticeably from hates to reviles , indicating the Greeks increased
intensity of negative emotions towards Helen. Furthermore, Greece reacts with disgust to Helen s
smile, creating the sense that Greece wants to deny Helen all movement, feelings, and life. The Greeks
are said to hate her even more when she remembers past enchantments / and past ills (H.D. 10 11).
Helen is likely remembering Troy, where her actions destroyed Greece. Calling the Trojan War a past
ill for Helen is a direct contrast to the unsaid ills the Greeks suffered in the same war, which were
much greater, at least in terms of life and death. Greece seems to think that whenever Helen does
anything, she causes trouble or reminds people of the trouble she has caused. In fact, this stanza
conveys the sense that Greece hate when Helen does anything but stand

Long Distance Relationships
Does Long Distance Relationship ever Works? A relationship is said to be a connection, as in thought,
concerning or regarding something or someone. Therefore a long distance relationship (LDR) is
similar to a normal relationship but differs in terms of geographic location of the couple; such location
can range from 100 1000 miles, 100 3000 mile apart etc. Any dating or intimate relationship with so
much distance between both parties is no doubt challenging, but that one of the things that comes
along with LDRs relationships. Obviously each challenge has either a positive or a negative result.
Positives such as increased independence, personal growth, more free time, and increased
communication; while some negatives are lack of physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thirdly, phone sex is the most popular of these alternatives and it is about maintaining the intimacy
and sexuality that couples share (Bean 2). It s also an example of dirty talk, but with some genital
touching. As the name suggests, E sex is sex or sexual oriented emails between couples as there aim is
turn on their partner. Though there is little physical intimacy between LDR couples, there are means
and ways couples can share intimacy, intimacy that is scarce in a LDR. Everything has its ups and
downs so too is LDR as they have some positives and negatives. Some positives of LDRs is that it
enables partners to appreciate each other more, and they don t take their partner for granted; thus
developing a stronger connection through non physical communication (Mietzner 2). The distance
equals more free time, increased independence and personal growth. Since one have so much free time
one can pursue any other dreams or goals that they could not pursue while they were not
geographically separated. LDRs allow both parties to be independent of each other and not be
emotionally dependent on each other as they would be if they were constantly together. This also
strengthens the relationship bond, and increases communication in the relationship; in addition,
communication is made easier by the internet, cell phones, calling cards, and enhanced postal services.
Thus there is hope for LDRs. For LDRs to survive they must be able to surpass

Summary Of The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch, the author of the book titled The Last Lecture offers insight about his childhood, adult
life and how he copes with his terminal illness. For example, I agree with his advice about how
complaining won t get you where you want to be. He states, If you took one tenth the energy you put
into complaining and applied it to solving the problem, you d be surprised by how well things can
work out... Complaining does not work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we
spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won t make us happier.
Randy Pausch argues the importance of achieving the goals you want, while you still can. He explains
that, even he is still achieving his goals even with this terminal illness and he doesn t complain. The
main reason why he doesn t mope around is because he is grateful to get ... Show more content on

Yes, I m a great optimist. but, when trying to make a decision, I often think of the worst case scenario.
I call it the eaten by wolves factor. If I do something, what s the most terrible thing that could happen?
Would I be eaten by wolves? One thing that makes it possible to be an optimist, is if you have a
contingency plan for when all hell breaks loose. There are a lot of things I don t worry about, because
I have a plan in place if they do.
I was really surprised when Randy mentions in order to be a great optimist, you need to think
negatively. I completely relate to this because I am the same way, I find myself having optimistic ideas
about going place or doing things but end up thinking about what could happen if anything went
wrong. Although, I never thought of using those negative thoughts to create a plan in case something
does go wrong, it would usually just stop me from doing what I want. It is a smart way to go about

Pros And Cons Of Using CMOS
. EXPERIENCE WITH CMOS IMAGE SENSORS (AFTER THE YEAR 1990)
MOS technology has shown promising results for electrode preparation but has certain limitations of
decrease in threshold voltage due to mismatch in charge components, and thinner gate oxide [114].
CMOS technology has not only reduced these problems but also gained popularity over its counter
parts of microphotodiodes and CCD [17]. Unlike the initial trials of obtaining the phosphenes
stimulation, placement of retinal tissues, use of appropriate biomaterials, electrode impedance
characterization, choice of right patients, researchers had started working in feature enhancement of
retinal implants using the CMOS technology especially after 1997. Table 3 compares the two popular,

Scaling of number of electrodes using digital pads with flexible design had increased the reliability,
testability and safety of the epiretinal implant proposed in [123] with high innocuousness.
The path changing journey of CMOS APS had started in 2008, when Joachim N. Burghartz et al [05]
implanted the first automated imager chip into patient s eye, following were the major contributions
reported:
Low cost and disposable photodiode made of Thin Film on CMOS (TFC).
High dynamic range (HDR).
Extended range of 120dB utilizing the linear to logarithmic transformation of photocurrent in to sense
signal voltage with compromise on contrast and brightness [124].
Later on counting method to enhance the scalability of the implanted device was the novel technique
suggested in [125], all the desired features like high dynamic range, higher speed, lower cost and good
sensitivity at the cost of complexity was achieved with the time domain counting scheme.
A novel approach of 0.8V 4096 pixel integrated sense and stimulus CMOS image sensor with
balanced current mode stimulator and photon to biphasic current converter was proposed in [126]. The
proposed approach utilized the three operating modes i.e. test mode, programming mode and implant
mode for obtaining different results like verification, electrical stimulation and fully functional chip
operation. The authors claimed the higher resolution of 4096 pixel with power

Consequences In Lord Of The Flies
A World Without Consequences In the novel Lord Of The Flies, the characters are thrust onto a
deserted island, outside the confines of their regimented society. As a result, they slowly lose their
morality because there are no consequences for their actions thus shifting from civilization to
savagery. This shift was first seen from the boy s actions. Once on the island, there are no rules and
the boys play all day, especially the littluns and two boys named Roger and Maurice who destroy all
their sand castles. Roger did not feel guilty, but Maurice was different for in his other life Maurice had
received chastisement for filling a younger eye with sand. Now, though there was no parent to let fall
a heavy hand, Maurice still felt the unease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mask is Jack s camouflage for when he hunts in order to hunt better, but it truly represents Jack s
turn to savagery for the mask does not hide his true identity, it brings out his inner savagery. Masks are
used to hide people s identity or to let them become someone or something else. If no one can
recognize who a person is, then that person cannot be blamed for their actions. Therefore, Jack is freed
from his morality and therefore the is no longer any consequences for his actions as well as all the
boys eventually becoming unrecognizable; they are no longer individuals and cannot be distinguished
from savages. This is the case when Ralph and Piggy go to Castle Rock a when the boys who joined
Jack s group appeared, savages appeared, painted out of recognition, edging round the ledge to the
neck (175). The masks hide their identities, the boys are no longer civilized boys, but a group of
savages. Therefore, the boys are not responsible for their actions and the masks bring that out in the
boys, causing them to turn to savagery. Clearly the masks connect back to the very reason the boys

Lord Of The Flies Reflection
Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is about a group of British boys that get stranded on a
uninhabited island where they will be challenged to govern themselves. All of the boys are on a plane
which is trying to leave britain during the outbreak of World War 3. The boys are all from 13 6 years
old and will discover there true self from this hard challenge of starting your our civilization.
Throughout the story the boys will be looking for the so called beast of the island. But what they don t
understand is that the only beast on the island is themselves.
At first the boys try to find what they think is the so called beast of the island. But they can t seem to
find it even though they have searched the whole island for them. As the story develops we start to see
these boys start to change and let their true selves come out. Jack squeals, Kill the pig. Cut her throat.
Spill her blood (52). this is just one of the many signs that golding gives us that these boys aren t
acting the way they would in civilization. Some might say that Jack is starting to show signs of being
the beast of the island. He is showing no empathy towards the pig which shows signs of not being a
normal civil person. Piggy then goes on to say, What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages? (70).
one of the reasons piggy brings this up is because he feels like a normal human anymore. We can
interpret that when he is talking about if they are animals they he is saying that they might be the so
called beast of the island. We can assume this because earlier on in the story they were imagining
some sort of big scary animal as the thing that they were looking for on there search for the beast. This
is one of the first signs of the story where we see them relating the beast to themselves. But what we
do see throughout the whole story is the fear that the idea of the beast brings to the island.
Fear is a thing which is almost impossible to take out of your system no matter how hard you try to
remove it. The only thing you can do is throughout the years restrain from making your fears take over
you. But this takes years takes years to do which is not possible for kids that are only 6 to 12 years
old. So something like the thought of a

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence
Discovery Speech Year 12 2017
(Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence)
Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative
How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in the
Rabbit Proof Fence?
Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process that
influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through discovery
that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by Jane Harrison
and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through many
techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary Techniques. This
is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and Molly Craig from the
Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful transformative discoveries as
they already had set opinions from the beginning.
Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears opinions
and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears transformational
discovery a very large impact in the play. Due to specific events such as the Stolen Generation and the
Rape forced by Mr Fisher that Nan Dear had experienced has made her believe that white people are
all bad . Due to these events Nan dear tries to protect the girls from all

Superstition in Huck Finn Essay
Superstitious Times
Some say that superstition is an impractical way of looking at life but the characters in Mark Twain s,
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn beg to differ. Examples of superstition are abundant throughout
the novel. Allowing characters in a novel to have superstitions makes their lives more realistic and the
reading more enjoyable. Huck and Jim s superstitions cause them grief, help them get through, and
sometimes get them into trouble in their lengthy runaway journey. Although both of these characters
tend to be quite rational, they quickly become irrational when anything remotely superstitious happens
to them. Superstition plays a dual role: it shows that Huck and Jim are child like in spite of their

He listened closely me yow! me yow! (6), this was, sure enough Tom s call to him. Huck jumps down
to meet his friend. This superstition gives the reader a first insight to Huck. The superstition is
somewhat childish and belief in the reality of witches shows that Huck has a long way to go before
maturation.
In the fourth chapter Huck sees Pap s footprints in the snow. So Huck goes to Jim to ask him why Pap
is there. Jim gets a hair ball that is the size of a fist that he took from an ox s stomach. Jim asks the
hair ball; Why is Pap here? But the hair ball won t answer. Jim says it needs money, so Huck gives Jim
a counterfeit quarter. The counterfeit quarter allows the reader to ponder the thought that Jim and
Huck are superstitious, yet they still cheat the superstition like it doesn t exist. Almost as if being
superstitious is such a normal attribute that Huck and Jim don t know they re superstitious. Jim puts
the quarter under the hair ball. The hair ball talks to Jim and Jim repeats it back to Huck. quot;Yo ole

troubles in his life, but also considerable joy. Also, that he s going to get sick, but always recover

they know how their life is going to turn out life can go two ways: they could come to a

The Social Hierarchy Of Julius Caesar
In every sense of life, there is a hierarchy. Every single being is constantly being compared to one
another until either or comes out on top. In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, there is no denying
the clear social hierarchy presented in the Roman Empire. Undoubtedly, the dictator of Rome, Julius
Caesar, sits at the very top of the social hierarchy at this time. Similarly to Caesar, Jean Paul Marat, a
politician during the French Revolution of 1789, is also considered on the more elite half of the social
hierarchy during that time. The social status of these two men didn t make them any less susceptible to
very real problems, including physical disabilities, murder and incontrol of what happens after death.

On the other hand, Marat was stabbed only once by a woman named Charlotte Corday. In The Death
Of Marat, a single puncture can be seen on his chest, with a scarce amount of blood running down his
torso, not nearly enough to be bathed in like Caesar was (David). Both of these men died at the hands
of another human by the act of getting stabbed.
After the murder of Caesar and Marat, the two would come to be portrayed in a certain manner.
Because of their status, these portrayals had long lasting effects when compared to the death of
someone lower in the social hierarchy. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus allows Marc Antony to
speak on Caesar s behalf in front of the citizens of Rome. Marc Antony says He was my friend,
faithful and just to me [...]When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept (Shakespeare. III. ii. 85,
91). The word choice, such as faithful and wept , portray Caesar as kind and vulnerable. Antony also
adds Here is the will, and under Caesar s seal./ To every Roman citizen he gives, /To every several
man, seventy five drachmas. (Shakespeare III. ii. 240 243). After these statements made by Antony,
the people of Rome see Caesar as a once worthy human being who cared about them. Marc Antony
paints Caesar in a way that influences the Romans to mourn, instead of celebrate, his death. This
change of opinion causes the Romans to hate the

Investigating the Effect of Alcohol on Heartbeat of Daphnia
Daphnia are the organisms that are involved in this experiment to find out what effect alcohol has on
their heartbeat. It is easy to study the effects of alcohol on the heart of Daphnia as the organ can be
easily seen through the transparent body of Daphnia. The number of heartbeats may be counted before
submersion in alcohol and after submersion in alcohol to investigate the effect of alcohol.
Daphnia belong to the Phylum Arthropoda and are Branchiopoda which belong to the class, Crustacea.
Daphnia are invertebrates and also have an exoskeleton, jointed appendages, a dorsal heart and open
blood system.

This can also be related to Daphnia in the same way. Therefore I predict that as the concentration of
alcohol surrounding the Daphnia increases the greater the percentage decrease of heartbeat.
ABSTRACT
The aim of the investigation was to find out the effect of alcohol on the heart rate of Daphnia. My
hypothesis was, as the concentration of alcohol increases the lower the heartbeat of the Daphnia will
fall. To test my prediction I carried out 25 individual experiments which were all carried out using the
same procedure but varying the alcohol concentration of the solution. To investigate how alcohol
concentration affects the heartbeat of Daphnia I recorded the heartbeat of 25 Daphnia for a period of 7
minutes. This included 1 minute before submersion in alcohol, 3 minutes during submersion in
alcohol and 3 minutes after submersion in alcohol. I then found the percentage decrease of the
heartbeat of the Daphnia from the resting heart rate. At the highest concentration of ethanol solution,
1x10 1gcm 3 the greatest percentage decrease of heart rate was 86.5%. The results in general show
that increasing the concentration of alcohol decreases the heartbeat of the Daphnia lower.
METHOD
Before starting the practical part of the investigation the different concentrations of alcohol that

Pro Life And Pro Choice Essay
Rawls and Nagel would support Hillary Clinton s stance on abortion in a secular society, regardless of
certain comprehensive doctrines, if we are to call the state just and rational. If we were to consider that
women were rational beings, as we should, then rationally the issue of abortion would not be a
dilemma. Since we live in a pluralistic society where all citizens comprehensive doctrines are free to
be heard, this issue of pro life and pro choice becomes a controversy. This creates tension within the
public sphere between religious citizens and the public sphere. This can be demonstrated between the
different ideology of four theologians. Michael Sandel and Thomas Nagel agree that banning abortion
is not correct but they clash in the way that they justify this issue. John Rawls is consistent with Nagel
s theory on the justification of abortion for women but not to the extent of Hillary Clinton s late
pregnancy abortion. Finally Ratzingers argues why rationality can not be the only source for the
justification of abortion shows why this causes tensions between the religious citizens and public
sphere.
Hillary Clinton is a secular pro choice advocate. For the most part Clinton stands faithfully by her
Methodist Church traditions. She previously believed that abortion was consistently wrong with the
exception that it would affect the mother but since then has changed her view. In 2016 s interview
with NBC s Meet the Press , Clinton clarifies her stance on abortion.

Violence In The Shawshank Redemption
Released in 1994, The Shawshank Redemption is a crime and drama filled movie under the direction
of Mr. Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption is one of the best movies I have watched in my

that give the movie more meaning. In the movie, you will see Andy Dufresne, Ellis Boyd Redding (or
known as Red,) Boggs, Warden Norton, Brooks Halten, and Tommy as very important characters. This
film possesses struggles of living in prison, and guilt that many inmates feel from the crime they

I would totally recommend this movie to anyone. From what I have told you, you can see exactly what
I am talking about. This movie has many hardships, but it comes along with an important message.
For some, they might think Andy and Red lost so much of their lives. For others, they think they
gained so much more by going to prison. Finally, after receiving redemption their lives continue. In
my opinion, I would have liked the movie to have kept going a little bit longer so we could see what
happens next. It would have been nice if we knew what happened next with Red and Andy. So many
questions could be asked such as: did the two of them stay out of trouble? Did the two of them ever
come back to the United States? Over all The Shawshank Redemption is a dramatic film with an
excellent cast and with exceptional themes. If anyone wanted to see a movie that will drop their jaws,
I would tell them Shawshank is the movie to watch. It truly was an amazing

JHANA YOGAAbstract In the Bhagavad Gita, the fourth discourse which is composed of forty two
verses, Lord Krishna, the narrator guides Arjuna a warrior who is finding himself pondering about the
simple principles of life while he is fighting the war. In the fourth discourse Arjuna learns from Lord
Krishna about faith, wisdom sacrifice, ignorance, doubts of the soul, action and inaction, selfless
service, and self realization which ultimately leads to the ultimate truth, which is the path for the
spiritual soul to reach its maximum potential here on earth and the afterlife. This essay will focus on
analyzing the ultimate truth while seeing how it coexists with the study and practice of Jhana Yoga.
Each of the principles presented in this essay will have an in depth examination. The philosophical
and religious as well as human natures are some of the most important themes that will be displayed in
this essay. The idea of the materialistic values that is present in everyday life serve as the reason to
why one cannot know the ultimate truth and how one can overcome this in order to find supreme
peace. Karma yoga will be studied as Lord Krishna tells its importance to Arjuna, so he can follow the
path of divine fulfillment. The universality of religion and selflessness serve as the two strengths one
can achieve to be capable to have and live by the ultimate truth. The aspect of tradition and the origins

The Research Process on a Project
The Research Process: The research process went well, I felt like it was easier than most research
projects. I found the project more preferable to a traditional research paper. I feel like it is a better
alternative because it gave us time to really research and give good connections. I ended up learning
more from the primary connections because I put more into my research. I felt like the secondary
connections was not as informative because I was researching connections that someone else had
already made but with the primary I had more possibilities to really learn. I felt like there were less
restraints on what I could connect the author to. With this project I learned that it is not a simple as
just typing an author s name into a search bar, I found out that you have to dig deeper than that. I
started my research on Wikipedia and then I would look at the sources Wiki used and get my research
from there.
Procedure:
The procedure of the project went well. I liked working individually, that way I am the only one to
blame for my grade. With group assignments there is always the chance of getting a not so helpful
group or the lazy partner. This just leads to frustration for the student that really worked for the grade.
As a student I feel cheated if a partner or group member gets a good grade without really putting the
effort into the project. If each student had more deadlines for the project they would work harder on it
and the research would be more thought

Why Is Fourth Grade Important
When I was 9 years old, I learned to dance. I taught my muscles how to sway in unison, how to
recover after hours of practice, and how to twirl at a pace that I still cannot understand to this day. At
my elementary school, the first day of fourth grade marks the momentous occasion in all of my peers
lives when 50 new students enter school, doubling the size of our grade. Fourth grade is the year in
which the gifted and talented program is established. Fourth grade is the year when 50 verified
geniuses enter my life. Fourth grade is the year that teaches me that I am not special. I quickly became
friends with as many of them as I could, seeking to gain some of their skills that had launched them so
far in life. One of the

How Did The Roman Games Affect The Ancient Olympic Games
The Ancient Olympic Games has made an impact both on the past and present time. The event became
well known to the public ever since its first event around 776 BC. The Greek games determined and
selected certain civilians who had exceptional endurance and athleticism within the games. The event
was an opportunity for the Greek civilization to enhance their athleticism and sportsmanship without
any risk of death or injury. Events like running, jumping, discus throw and many others gave glory
and wreath like crowns to those worthy contestants who proved to have outstanding physical training.
The purpose of the Ancient Olympics was secular in order to honor the Greek god Zeus. However in
Rome, the Romans also followed with their own event to honor the Roman chief god, Jupiter Optimus
Maximus. The Roman Games, called ludi, was quite different from the Greek Olympic system. Ludi
had three programs of spectacles for Roman civilians: ludi circenses, venationes, and ludi scaenici.
Ludi circenses were games being played within a circus, most primarily chariot racing and gladiator
fights (munera) were the main events under the circus program. Venationes were games with an
additional appearance from animals. Animals played part in the Roman Games to be hunted as a
complement to the gladiator games. Ludi scaenici were not technically actual games compared to
chariot racing and animal hunts, but a leisure activity of watching theater. The purpose of Ludi was to
not only honor Jupiter,

Contribution Of Confucius
Confucius was born in 551 BC and died in 479 BC at age seventy two. He was a great influence on
chinese teachings. He was widely known as Master for the great influence he brought upon central
China. The translation of his name literally means Master Kong. He was the author and editor of
several chinese texts. After his death, these texts and teachings were created into the Analects. The
Analects reflect and provide discussions of Confucius and his disciples. Through the reading of the
thirteenth and fourteenth chapters from the Analects, one can conclude that Confucius taught
governmental morality, the behavior of a ruler, how rulers should maintain order, and mistakes of
rulers.
Confucius taught that government should be strict and precise. In government, princes were to appoint
the minister by following the rules of propriety. Ministers were to follow the orders of the prince with
adherence. The ruler should appoint office positions to whom they know. In government, the ruler
must rectify himself and others. Confucius thought that the first thing to be done in a government was
to rectify names to ensure social harmony. The rectifying of names was crucial because they needed to
be correct so that the language of things was the truth. The language of things needed to be truthful to
ensure success of things. Without the success of things, music and proprieties would not prosper.
When these things do not thrive, order is not restored and the people would not be aware of how

SIMULATION GAMES IN SECONDARY SHOOL BUSINESS EDUCATION DUE DATE: 8 APRIL
2016 INTRODUCTION What can we as teachers do to influence our learners to become
entrepreneurs? The government of Botswana has been over the years working tirelessly in trying to
curb unemployment more especially among the youth, as well as motivating them to venture into
different kinds of businesses as a way encouraging entrepreneurship and trying to diversify the
country s economy which is highly reliant on diamond exports. This includes among other things,
coming up with initiatives such as the Youth Development Fund (YDF) which exists to fund youth
businesses to help fight unemployment and poverty. One of the programs of late is the Economic
Stimulus Package (ESP) which aims at up skilling and up scaling unemployed youth among one of its
many mandates. Again, there is the Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA) which
aims at providing financial and technical assistance to citizens to develop their businesses (CEDA,
2016). Not only does CEDA offer financial assistance to developing businesses but also to already
existing ones. What is more, it also offers training, mentorship and advisory services to new
entrepreneurs as well as those that have been in the industry for a while. It is however worrisome how

Cell Adhesion Molecules
Introduction
Cells are independent units of life. However, when a cell becomes part of an organism, it becomes part
of a tissue and organ system. Cells in a tissue are joined to each other and to the extracellular matrix
(ECM) by cell junctions. There are three kinds of cell junctions: Occluding junctions, anchoring
junctions and communication junctions. Occluding junctions occur in the epithelium where the
adjacent cells are so tightly sealed together that even small molecules cannot pass. Communicating
junctions allow the exchange of chemical and electrical signals between cells. Anchoring junctions are
the ones which attach a cell either to its neighbor or to the extracellular matrix. Formation of an
anchoring junction requires the cells to stick to each other. Various molecules mediate adhesion
between cells following which the cytoskeleton forms a structure around them. The anchoring
junctions thus formed can be of four types desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, focal adhesions and
adherens junctions. In order for a proper tissue to form, it is important for the cells of the tissue to bind
together. It is equally important to prevent the invasion and binding of other cells. Thus, cell adhesion
has to be specific. This is where the cell adhesion molecules come into play (Alberts et al. 2002).
Cell Adhesion Molecules (CAMs) Adhesion of cells to other cells and to the ECM is mediated by
certain proteins on the

Jules Ferry s Speech On Imperialism
According to the content section of this chapter Imperialism, means, the subjugation, domination, and
exploitation of almost the entire globe to the economic and political needs of one region (Europe), a
development unprecedented in human history. To a neutral viewer this may appear like a beneficial
idea. During the 1800s and early 1900s, Imperialism was seen as a benefit to some and others did not
see it as this. Many European nations such as Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, as well as
some other nations were gaining land. Many people had opposing views regarding imperialism. Those
who were in favor of imperialism often argued that it was beneficial based on nationalism, economic
gains, the fervor missions of the Christians, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jules Ferry s idea about making the trade better is a great idea, but unfortunately would not work like
he thinks. The other country would not be willingly let imperialists take over. Jule s speech continues
with a response from M. Camille Pelletan, an honorable audience member, he states What is this
civilization which you impose with can non balls? What is it but another form of barbarism? Don t
these populations, these inferior races, have the same rights as you? Aren t they masters of their own
houses? (258). Pelletan jeers and condemns Ferry, but Ferry sticks to his racist ideas and continues to
put the inferior races under him. Ferry continues to talk about the superiority he thinks Europe has
over everyone. He states, Gentlemen, I must speak from a higher and more truthful plane. (258). Ferry
is showing that he thinks he is superior to those he is speaking to and sees himself as a superior to
others and that he is above the inferiors. He then continues to make it clear that superiors have control
over the inferiors, It must be stated openly that, in effect, superior races have rights over inferior races.
(258). Throughout his speech, Ferry tries to show what the positives of Imperialism is, but does not
acknowledge the negatives for the expansion and take over of certain territories.
The imperialists tried to make arguments that they were bringing only

The Internet Revolution Has Provided Valuable...
The Internet revolution has provided valuable opportunities for Business. In the last few years, a
recent internet technology called Web 2.0 has become a common phenomenon and has been
increasingly introduced into organisations. The use of Web 2.0 in organisational contexts is known as
Enterprise Social Networking .
Employees use of Enterprise Social Networking within organisations enhances their communication,
collaboration and knowledge sharing. Organization s use of social media, internally and externally, to
connect individuals who share similar business interests or activities.
Enterprise Social Networking is a secure and private space where all members of an organization can
have and participate in:
1. The exchange of corporate information
2. Better internal communication
3. Centralized management of projects, documents and contacts.
All done from a social point of view, collaboratively building the organization knowledge and with
complete integration with all management and productivity tools in your organization. Despite the
valuable benefits of Enterprise Social Networking , its adoption by employees is challenging and
lengthy. After organisations introduce Web 2.0 technologies, the next step is for employees to adopt it.
However, this is not a smooth process. It may meet with employee resistance.
Enterprise Social Network technologies have been adopted by companies, creating the term Enterprise

Copper is a mineral. it is not a plant or a animal. Copper is a metallic metal. It can never be broken

to humans.
People liked it because in it s native condition, it could easily be beaten into weapons or tools. Copper
has been one of the most useful metals for over
5000 years. Copper was probably used around 8000 B.C by people living along the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers. In 6000 B.C, Egyptians learned how to hammer copper into things they

Lamps are also attached to these helmets in case some of the lighting in the mine goes out leaving a
miner stranded in the dark. One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous
gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect
harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the
mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at
the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We
now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and
water systems. If a flammable gas ignites, like sulfur, the fire may not die for years, which results in
closing the mine. Another problem miners complain about are the rats. Mines will often have mine
cats that hunt out the rats. These cats are well fed and petted by most of the miners.
Most copper is found in seven ores. That means it s mixed in with other metals like lead, zinc, gold,
cobalt, bismuth, platinum, and nickel. These ores will usually have only about 4% pure copper in them

Sometimes miners may only find 2%. The things that make copper such a popular metal are
malleability which is how easily it bends. Copper is highly

Underage Tanning Law
Many teens today feel pressured to live up to society s standards. They believe that perfect hair,
flawless makeup, designer clothes, and bronze skin is required. This is where tanning beds come into
play. About 29.5 percent of teenagers use indoor tanning devices. (Health Day News). However, is the
warm, golden glow going to be achievable any more? State Representatives are considering new
restrictions, and changing existing laws, in regards to teen tanning. These new commands will ban
teens from tanning. Are these bills acceptable? Are they needed? The Senate and Assembly of New
York agreed to ban teens ages 16 years and younger from tanning beds (Precious). Lawmakers in New
Jersey are adding new rules to teen tanning; no one can tan under the age of 17. (N.J. Bans Minors

Gun Hunting Vs. Hunting
Hunting has been ingrained in American history from the Native American tribes and from when the
first settlers arrived to the New World. While hunting is not needed for survival in today s society
every year thousands of hunters take to the woods in pursuit of their quarry. While many people think
these hunters are all the same there are two main sects that make up the hunting community; gun
hunters and bowhunters. While both methods of hunting are similar and share many common points,
there are some key differences between the two as well. While bowhunting is more challenging and
the less popular of the two methods, and being less popular is often seen as a bad thing, bowhunting s
lack of popularity and increased challenge is what makes it the true pure form of hunting. The first
difference between gun hunting and bowhunting are the hunting seasons themselves. The gun hunting
season in Michigan goes from November 15 to November 30. This only allows gun hunters a short
two week time period to go hunting. Because of how popular gun hunting is and how short the season
is hunters flock to the woods during this two week period. Many people enjoy hunting for the piece
and quiet they get to enjoy away from the noises and hustle and bustle of everyday life. Gun hunters
do not get to enjoy this peace and quiet however. With orange clad hunters roaming through the woods
and the boom of gun shots ringing out across the landscape the woods are anything but peaceful.

Origins of the Islamic Religion in the United States
The beginning of Islam in the United States can be traced to the earliest days of the slave trade. While
many of the slaves brought to America practiced traditional African religions, many of the slaves from
West Africa were predominately Muslim. In fact a significant number of black Africans brought to
North America during the slave trade were Muslim. Due to the overwhelming Christian presence
during the slave trade, slaves were not allowed to practice their Muslim faith. The Christian slave

The Koran and the Sunna cover many things that Muslims must go by. Some examples are: diet,
marriage, and even the proper way to clean one s teeth. There are two different groups of Muslims, the
Shiites, and the Sunni. The Shiites are those who support the decedents of Muhhamad as their rightful
successors. The Sunni believed that the elections of the first three caliphs were valid. There are five
specific rituals that Muslims must follow. These rituals are known as the five pillars of Islam. These
rituals are as follows:
1) Profession of faith. There is no god but Allah, and Muhhamad is his prophet.
2) Prayer. Muslims must pray five times a day. When they pray, they must pray towards Mecca, the
holy city.
3) Charity to the poor. Muslims must contribute to public charities.
4) Ritual fast during Ramadan. Muslims cannot eat from the break of day until the setting of the sun.
5) The pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims must make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca at one time in their
lives.
These are the five rituals that Muslims went by and they did so successfully.
Islam is a way of life, as well as a religion. Those who follow Islam are very dedicated, for they live
their whole life submitting themselves to Allah. As a matter of fact, the word Islam means submission
to Allah. In the United States today, Islam is a highly accepted religion in the African American

underlying is defined as the basis of something. It may have seemed like the assassination of the

Allies would have thought that beating the Germans in France would have been an essential victory

An invasion of France would also significantly reduce the threat from U Boats, the submarines that

engineering advances meant that craft in the Atlantic Ocean could be kept safe from U Boats the threat
still existed. Many U Boat pens were along the French Atlantic coast and were used as docks for the

himself and this time he doesn t see Jesus as a weakling at all. Now he sees him as a successful
carpenter who is both mentally and physically strong as well as a great leader. He also realizes the
great feat Jesus has accomplished as well as the methods he used to accomplish this feat. Methods
Barton felt every business man should know about. Barton concludes this explanation by telling us
how he waited for someone to write a book relating Jesus work to modern day business, and how
when no one did he decided to write it himself. And with that he set out to write what he called the
story of the founder of modern business Jesus Christ.
At first glance Barton use of a parable seemed un important but as I read on I realized his intent in

you hire a Web Designer who s a virtual employee, we re talking about a full time dedicated resource
who reports directly to you as far as work goes, with us taking care of all logistics issues, such as

long run, though they might seem to be cheaper at first glance. Also, freelancers work for multiple
clients simultaneously which affects the quality of the work that they do. The Web designer who
works with you from our office is, for all practical purposes, no different than your locally

Alkyl Halides
In this lab, the experimenters will determine how the structure of an alkyl halide (i.e. methyl, primary,
secondary, or tertiary), steric effects, nature of a leaving group, and solvent polarity affect the relative
rates of SN1 and SN2 reactions. In addition, comparing the rates of reactions under varying
concentrations of alkyl halides and nucleophiles will help determine the rate laws for both types of
nucleophilic substitution reactions. During SN2 reactions, a good nucleophile, like iodide, will
displace the leaving group on an alkyl halide in a single step that results in an inversion of
configuration. Methyl, primary, and some secondary halides undergo this bimolecular substitution
reaction. Minimal steric effects combined with a good leaving group and a polar, aprotic solvent ...

The more stable the resulting carbocation, the quicker this step occurs. After this rate limiting step,
rapid reaction with a weak nucleophile (e.g. ethanol) attacking from either side of the carbocation
completes the substitution reaction. A racemic mixture forms with a slight favoring of the inverted
molecule because of ion pair formation. A good leaving group capable of delocalizing a negative
charge aids in the formation of the initial carbocation. Additionally, polar, protic solvents capable of
solvating and stabilizing a carbocation support the SN1 mechanism. Tertiary alkyl halides provide the
ideal substrate for the formation of a stable tertiary carbocation that favors the SN1 mechanisms.
When testing the factors affecting the SN2 reaction below, the experimenters will achieve the fastest
reaction when using a primary alkyl halide with minimal branching and the best leaving group (i.e. 1
bromobutane). Varying the concentrations of the alkyl halide or nucleophile while keeping the other
constant will change the rate of reaction for the SN2 reaction. The fastest SN1 reaction will occur for
the tertiary alkyl halide with the strongest leaving group reacted in pure

Steroids Should Not Be Banned
Steroids By: Taci Miller For many years people have debated whether not to have steroids in sports, or
to keep them away from all competition. However some athletes use steroids anyway to get ahead of
the competition. These action can cause athletes being kicked out of a game or even all future
competition. Some people ask Why use steroids? Some athletes use drugs, where they can train their
bodies hard and then have their bodies recover fast. Different types of athletes use steroids in different
ways depending on what sport the athlete is partaking in. Depending on what the athlete is trying to
achieve they will combine certain drugs to give them the result that they want(Knight 23). Another
reason that some athletes may start to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of steroids has forever changed the face of professional sports, making it a world fueled by
drug contacts instead of skill and talent. Roids, juice, hype, or pump are names that people may use
when talking about steroids. Anabolic steroids are different from steroids medications. Anabolic
steroids help build muscle, buy steroids can not help the ability and or skill of the athlete. Genetics,
body size, age, sex, diet and how the athlete trains determines ability(State Health Department 1).
Steroids fall into the category of ergogenic drugs. A drug that is classified as orogenetic is a substance
that can be used to improve athletic performance. Other ergogenic drugs include prohormones, such as
androstenedione and androstenediol, growth hormones, and nutritional supplements. While these
substances may act on the body in different ways, the goals are the same: to gain muscles, increase
endurance, and speed muscle and strength recovery. (Knight 7). Athletes who are doping rarely take
one kind of drug. More commonly, they will do what is called stacking, which means combining a
number of drugs in order to have the best chance at success. Unfortunately, stacking can also lead to
overdose and greater chances of permanently damaging vital organs. (Knight 23). Even tho stacking is
very bad for everyone, people

Pros And Cons Of Capm
1. Introduction
Capital asset pricing model know as CAPM is a model for calculates the required rate of return for
any risky asset. This method is often used to determine the fair price of an investment should be. This
essay will discuss about usage of CAPM in stock market industry, through probe the advantages and
limitation of CAPM to this industry.
2. Concept of Capital asset pricing model
During 1952, Markowitz came out with a theory based on diversified investment is able to construct
the risk averse investors. He diversified investment portfolio theory and efficiency of the priory
rigorous mathematical tools as a means to demonstrate risk averse investors in a number of risky
assets in construct the optimal portfolio methods.

One of the example is a risk free rate of return is the United States 10 years government bonds. If
stock investors need to bear additional risk, then he will need on the basis of the risk free rate of return
in order to obtain the corresponding premium. Therefore, equity market premium is equal to the
market expected rate of return. Equity risk premium is the stock market premium and a β coefficient
of the product.
4. Pros and Cons of Capital asset pricing model
There is only one reason investors receive higher returns make that investment in high risk stocks.
Therefore, CAPM occupy dominant position in this modern financial environment (Fama and French,
1993).
4.1 Advantages
The biggest advantage of CAPM is simple and clear. It is the prices of any kind of risky securities are
divided into three factors: the risk free rate of return, price and unit risk. Throughout these three
factors combine together, it will provide a clear picture for the analyst. In addition, another advantage
is the usefulness of CAPM. It allows investors to review and evaluate selection of various financial
assets competitive quotes based on the absolute risk rather than the total risk. Investors in the financial
market have adopted this method as it able to solve the general problem of investment

Stereotypes Against Racism
My dear friends and comrades on the Left, Let me start out by saying: thank you for saving my life.
And that s not hyperbole: it took me a while to find you, but when I did, you helped guide me in a
meaningful direction. Instead of drowning myself in booze or escaping into a world of drugs, I found
the antiwar movement and the world of progressive political activism. For that, I am extremely
thankful. When I was 18 years old, you might have found me on one of those YouTube clips
progressives post when they catch ignorant teenagers saying ignorant things on camera. You know the
sort of clips I m referring to, I m sure. Usually, someone with a camera confronts a couple young
people, asks them a series of questions and from there the laughs take care of themselves. At that time,
I didn t care about politics, or race, or culture or anything, really. I did care about sports and working
out. I cared about sex. And I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

guess it s an easy way to identify oneself when speaking publicly or having conversations about
organizing and so forth. Regardless, that s not what s important. What s important is that I would like
my leftist friends, or at least those who identify as such, to rethink their position on Bernie Sanders
U.S. Presidential campaign. To be clear, I don t work for his campaign, nor is anyone paying me to say
this (I always think it s important to disclose any self interests if/when they exist). I say this as

are radical. In fact, they are the sort of policies people in this country should have been enjoying for

How The Rolling Stones Influence Rock N Roll
HOW THE ROLLING STONES BECAME
Paint it Black, Wild horse, Angie , Brown sugar, Miss you, these are only a few of the many songs that
the Rolling Stones sing! The Rolling Stones were one of the most popular Rock n´ roll bands during
the 1960´s. They went through many challenges to become a band, their concerts helped and
throughout that process they influenced rock n´ roll.
Through thick and thin these guys have always been together.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards first crossed paths at Dartford Maypole County Primary School. (The
Rolling Stones History). Not long after they were both fans of blues and American R B, and were
friends with a musician, his name was Dick Taylor. Mick Jagger and Dick Taylor were soon playing in

During their fifty years as a band, the Rolling Stones have released twenty nine studio albums,
eighteen live albums, numerous videos, concert films and compilations and their albums had sold an
estimated 250 million. Much has been written about Mick Jagger s stage moves and the spell those
moves have cast over audiences. Perhaps writer Philip Norman summed it up best in 1984 when he
compared Jagger to Elvis, Presley, while he made girls scream, did not have Jagger s ability to make
men feel uncomfortable (The Lasting Influence of the Rolling Stones). The acceptance of Jagger s
voice on pop radio was a turning point in rock roll. He broke open the door for everyone else.
Suddenly Eric Burdon and Van Morrison weren t so weird even Bob Dylan, wrote musician Steven
Van Zandt in a Rolling Stone magazine tribute to the band (The Lasting Influence of the Rolling
Stones). Keith Richards became famous for his no frills, unpretentious guitar style, a blend of blues
and rock. He was ranked fourth on Rolling Stone s list of 100 Best Guitarists. The magazine said that
Richards has rock s greatest single body of (guitar) riffs. Fourteen of the songs he co wrote with
Jagger made Rolling Stone s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list (The Lasting Influence of the Rolling
Stones).Richards has also become known for his notorious partying, history of drug use, rock star
swagger and near death appearance. His rugged appearance and brazen style was used by Johnny
Depp when Depp famously based his Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow on both
Richards and the cartoon character Pepé Le Pew (The Lasting Influence of the Rolling Stones). They

Essay On Stereotype Threat
The Effects of Stereotype Threat and Self Enhancement on Self Esteem Stereotypes or widely held
and oversimplified beliefs about a person or thing have both pros and cons and we are all guilty of
using them. Although they have made life easier by helping us quickly navigate the world and have
helped us understand different cultures norms and values they can also turn sour when they undermine
a culture by portraying them in a negative light. Negative stereotypes about African Americans are an
example of this. Today s culture is filled with stereotypes about African Americans. For instance,
according to Welch (2007) In American society, a prevalent representation of crime is that it is
overwhelmingly committed by young Black men (p. 276). Continuing on, Welch (2007) notes that the
image of a young Black male as a violent and menacing street thug is fueled and perpetuated by
typifications everywhere (p. 276). Such stereotypes can play a major role in how one views a
particular group and if one is part of that in group, how they might view themselves. Nonetheless, my
group chose to focus specifically on stereotype threat. Stereotype threat is defined as the fear of
confirming a negative stereotype about one s in group. Our experiment attempted to ... Show more

Much of the past exploration on stereotype threat has focused on the effects of stereotype threat on
academic performance in African Americans. For example, research by Aronson and Inzlicht (2004)
found that Black participants who were stereotype vulnerable seemed to have less clear academic self
concepts than other participants. Specifically, they exhibited more numerous and more extreme highs
and lows in their academic self efficacy than Blacks who were not stereotype vulnerable and than
Whites more generally. Blacks with low stereotype vulnerability, in contrast, had academic efficacy as
stable as

Informative Speech On Jane Addams
Good morning, my name is Jane Addams and it s lovely to be here with all of you. While in London
with my close friend Ellen Gates Starr in 1888, we visited Toynbee Hall which was a settlement house
that aided poor industrial workers. Witnessing those provided services first hand ultimately sparked
my desire to bring that system of aid to the United States in order to help lower classes. When Starr
and I initially founded the Chicago Hull House in 1889, we both intended for institution to be a place
where educated women were able to share their skills and knowledge to the poorer immigrants. Yet it
became a overall center for one to experience higher civil and social life through the teachings of
education and philanthropy. Our three main principles

Legislation On Antibiotics
A letter to legislation on the use of antibiotics
Overtime, antibiotics have been favorable as well as negligent to society. Antibiotic usage is helpful to
society because it kills and fights off bacteria in both humans and animals. With an increase in
antibiotic usage, these bacteria have become resistant to certain drugs which reduce the chance of the
bacteria being killed off and result in bacteria multiplying, causing increased harm to the infected.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2013), each year in the United States
at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least
23,000 people die each year as a result to these infections. Although multiple bacteria are antibiotic
resistant, and those numbers will continue to rise, antibiotics should remain a staple in the treatment of
diseases, as opposed to abandoning their use which will cause an increase in the prevalence of
bacterial infections. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human life expectancy in the United States is currently around 70 80 years, and through the use of
antibiotics, life expectancy has the ability to increase beyond what we currently expect. As stated by
the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCSUSA), the best approach to diminish the use of antibiotics on
animals is to reduce nonessential uses and reserve as many of these drugs as possible. In doing so this
will give animals the ability to produce in a healthier way and have an overall well shaped

  • 2. Censorship Of Books In Defense of the Constitution: We Want YOU to Free the Books Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire once said, I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it , which is unfortunately not the common opinion amongst advocates of censorship across America today (Tallentyre). Withdrawing books from the reachable shelves of libraries and schools across America is leading to the inexcusable realm of conformity that is being found in the nation, and world, today. Suppressing history, warping First Amendment rights, and clouding culture, the censorship of literature in today s world is ultimately impacting society as a whole. Advisors, teachers, and administrators everywhere are undermining student s intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the release of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, a startling memoir recounting the author s troubling childhood, it has been challenged by 15 U.S. states and removed from countless libraries across the country, landing it an almost permanent spot on the American Library Association s 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books (ALA). Angelou s brutally honest depictions of rape and racism are off putting to many parents across America, leading them to want to safeguard their children from what are absolutely important, relevant topics in today s society. This buffer that adults create is exactly what drives the problem within society people in positions of power are building walls surrounding youths, keeping the truthful, harsh problems of reality out, only letting the youth read and learn from what has been deemed acceptable . • 3. Paul Cezanne Essay PAUL CÉZANNE Post Impressionism, as the name would suggest, is the art movement that directly followed Impressionism. One artist, who led the Post Impressionism movement, was French artist, Paul Cézanne. Much of his early work was pure Impressionism and, although he was introduced to the style and guided by Camille Pissarro, Cézanne s works showed a distinctive uniqueness. Cézanne broke away from Impressionism because of the lack of composition; he felt the desire to depict subjects in the third dimension as well as appearing flat. Cézanne did not agree with the Impressionistic trait of portraying the world through light, instead, he built up images by a generous use of colour. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He did not have the same attraction towards light as did many Impressionist, he believed that the structure of objects should be portrayed through colour, not light, quot;I seek to render perspective only through colour quot;. Cézanne created the illusion of depth in his works by adding numerous layers of colour to distinguish the form of his subjects. He would perfect the design in his works by distorting objects and having multiple viewpoints on the same object. In quot;Still Life with Apples and Peaches quot; (1905), the table is seen from two different sides, as well as from above and some of the objects on the table are viewed front on, while others are viewed from above. Cézanne would create a 3D effect in his works by giving each object many planes he would add to this effect with his vast use of colours. He took advantage of how warm colours (reds and oranges) and cool colours (blues and greens) draw the eye closer or push it away. An example of this is in quot;Mont Ste. Victoire Seen from Bibemus Quarry quot; (1898 1906), the mountain in the background use blues and greys to emphasise its position in relation to other objects. The boulders in the foreground demonstrate Cézanne s use of planes; the areas that protrude are in blocks of red, whereas the areas that are sunken in are in blocks of orange or yellow, giving the impression that it has many faces. Through the deception experienced by Sayuri, golden teaches his readers that deception can hurt but it can lead to something better. Methods of development: Deception from Mr. Tanaka I couldn t stop thinking about Mr.Tanaka. He had taken me away from my mother and father, sold me into slavery, sold my sister into something even worse. I had taken him as a kind man. I thought he was so refined, so worldly. What a stupid child I had been. I would never go back to Yoroido, I decided. Or if I did , it would only be to tell Mr. Tanaka how much I hated him. (Golden pg.82) But the truth is that the afternoon when I met Mr. Tanaka Ichiro really was the best and worst of my life. (Golden pg.7) Sayuri admired Mr. Tanaka and wanted to become his adopted daughter, after being taken away from her home she was extremely hurt and felt stupid for believing in him. She felt as though her life would never be the same again, and even tried to run away risking her chances of becoming a Geisha. Sayuri eventually benefited from this as she herself noticed that living in Gion allowed her to become much more successful allowing her to take care of herself. • 5. Analyzing Hilda Doolittle s Poem Helen HELENNNNNN Helen of Troy is a prominent character in Greek mythology who is known for her beauty which caused the Trojan War. She is often viewed as a one dimensional character who singularly represents beauty. However, in Hilda Doolittle s poem entitled Helen , she uses an analysis of the image of Helen to support feminism. Her poem, written with three stanzas, describes a change in Helen s personal state in order to emphasize the negative effects of assuming that beauty indicates an absence of personality. Doolittle begins by describing, in simple terms, Greece s unanimous hate towards the character Helen, whose beauty tears apart Greece. By describing Helen as still and white, Doolittle conveys strong imagery of a conspicuous lack of motion. All Greece hates / the still eyes in the white face... where she stands... (H.D. 2 4). Furthermore, Greece reacts with disgust to Helen s smile, creating the sense that Greece wants to deny Helen all movement, feelings, and life. The Greeks are said to hate her even more when she remembers past enchantments / and past ills (H.D. 10 11). Helen is likely remembering Troy, where her actions destroyed Greece. Calling the Trojan War a past ill for Helen is a direct contrast to the unsaid ills the Greeks suffered in the same war, which were much greater, at least in terms of life and death. Greece seems to think that whenever Helen does anything, she causes trouble or reminds people of the trouble she has caused. Some positives of LDRs is that it enables partners to appreciate each other more, and they don t take their partner for granted; thus developing a stronger connection through non physical communication (Mietzner 2). The distance equals more free time, increased independence and personal growth. Since one have so much free time one can pursue any other dreams or goals that they could not pursue while they were not geographically separated. LDRs allow both parties to be independent of each other and not be emotionally dependent on each other as they would be if they were constantly together. Once on the island, there are no rules and the boys play all day, especially the littluns and two boys named Roger and Maurice who destroy all their sand castles. • 10. Lord Of The Flies Reflection Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is about a group of British boys that get stranded on a uninhabited island where they will be challenged to govern themselves. All of the boys are on a plane which is trying to leave britain during the outbreak of World War 3. The boys are all from 13 6 years old and will discover there true self from this hard challenge of starting your our civilization. Throughout the story the boys will be looking for the so called beast of the island. But what they don t understand is that the only beast on the island is themselves. At first the boys try to find what they think is the so called beast of the island. But they can t seem to find it even though they have searched the whole island for them. As the story develops we start to see these boys start to change and let their true selves come out. Jack squeals, Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood (52). this is just one of the many signs that golding gives us that these boys aren t acting the way they would in civilization. Some might say that Jack is starting to show signs of being the beast of the island. He is showing no empathy towards the pig which shows signs of not being a normal civil person. Piggy then goes on to say, What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages? (70). one of the reasons piggy brings this up is because he feels like a normal human anymore. We can interpret that when he is talking about if they are animals they he is saying that they might be the so called beast of the island. We can assume this because earlier on in the story they were imagining some sort of big scary animal as the thing that they were looking for on there search for the beast. This is one of the first signs of the story where we see them relating the beast to themselves. But what we do see throughout the whole story is the fear that the idea of the beast brings to the island. Fear is a thing which is almost impossible to take out of your system no matter how hard you try to remove it. The only thing you can do is throughout the years restrain from making your fears take over you. But this takes years takes years to do which is not possible for kids that are only 6 to 12 years old. Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence Discovery Speech Year 12 2017 (Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence) Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in the Rabbit Proof Fence? Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process that influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through discovery that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by Jane Harrison and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through many techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary Techniques. This is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and Molly Craig from the Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful transformative discoveries as they already had set opinions from the beginning. Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears opinions and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears transformational discovery a very large impact in the play. To test my prediction I carried out 25 individual experiments which were all carried out using the same procedure but varying the alcohol concentration of the solution. To investigate how alcohol concentration affects the heartbeat of Daphnia I recorded the heartbeat of 25 Daphnia for a period of 7 minutes. This included 1 minute before submersion in alcohol, 3 minutes during submersion in alcohol and 3 minutes after submersion in alcohol. I then found the percentage decrease of the heartbeat of the Daphnia from the resting heart rate. At the highest concentration of ethanol solution, 1x10 1gcm 3 the greatest percentage decrease of heart rate was 86.5%. The results in general show that increasing the concentration of alcohol decreases the heartbeat of the Daphnia lower. Pro Life And Pro Choice Essay Rawls and Nagel would support Hillary Clinton s stance on abortion in a secular society, regardless of certain comprehensive doctrines, if we are to call the state just and rational. If we were to consider that women were rational beings, as we should, then rationally the issue of abortion would not be a dilemma. Since we live in a pluralistic society where all citizens comprehensive doctrines are free to be heard, this issue of pro life and pro choice becomes a controversy. This creates tension within the public sphere between religious citizens and the public sphere. This can be demonstrated between the different ideology of four theologians. Michael Sandel and Thomas Nagel agree that banning abortion is not correct but they clash in the way that they justify this issue. John Rawls is consistent with Nagel s theory on the justification of abortion for women but not to the extent of Hillary Clinton s late pregnancy abortion. Finally Ratzingers argues why rationality can not be the only source for the justification of abortion shows why this causes tensions between the religious citizens and public sphere. • 21. How Did The Roman Games Affect The Ancient Olympic Games The Ancient Olympic Games has made an impact both on the past and present time. The event became well known to the public ever since its first event around 776 BC. The Greek games determined and selected certain civilians who had exceptional endurance and athleticism within the games. The event was an opportunity for the Greek civilization to enhance their athleticism and sportsmanship without any risk of death or injury. Events like running, jumping, discus throw and many others gave glory and wreath like crowns to those worthy contestants who proved to have outstanding physical training. The purpose of the Ancient Olympics was secular in order to honor the Greek god Zeus. However in Rome, the Romans also followed with their own event to honor the Roman chief god, Jupiter Optimus Maximus. The Roman Games, called ludi, was quite different from the Greek Olympic system. Ludi had three programs of spectacles for Roman civilians: ludi circenses, venationes, and ludi scaenici. Ludi circenses were games being played within a circus, most primarily chariot racing and gladiator fights (munera) were the main events under the circus program. Venationes were games with an additional appearance from animals. Animals played part in the Roman Games to be hunted as a complement to the gladiator games. • 23. Contribution Of Confucius Confucius was born in 551 BC and died in 479 BC at age seventy two. He was a great influence on chinese teachings. He was widely known as Master for the great influence he brought upon central China. The translation of his name literally means Master Kong. He was the author and editor of several chinese texts. After his death, these texts and teachings were created into the Analects. The Analects reflect and provide discussions of Confucius and his disciples. Through the reading of the thirteenth and fourteenth chapters from the Analects, one can conclude that Confucius taught governmental morality, the behavior of a ruler, how rulers should maintain order, and mistakes of rulers. Confucius taught that government should be strict and precise. In government, princes were to appoint the minister by following the rules of propriety. Ministers were to follow the orders of the prince with adherence. The ruler should appoint office positions to whom they know. In government, the ruler must rectify himself and others. Confucius thought that the first thing to be done in a government was to rectify names to ensure social harmony. The rectifying of names was crucial because they needed to be correct so that the language of things was the truth. The language of things needed to be truthful to ensure success of things. Without the success of things, music and proprieties would not prosper. When these things do not thrive, order is not restored and the people would not be aware of how ... The government of Botswana has been over the years working tirelessly in trying to curb unemployment more especially among the youth, as well as motivating them to venture into different kinds of businesses as a way encouraging entrepreneurship and trying to diversify the country s economy which is highly reliant on diamond exports. This includes among other things, coming up with initiatives such as the Youth Development Fund (YDF) which exists to fund youth businesses to help fight unemployment and poverty. One of the programs of late is the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP) which aims at up skilling and up scaling unemployed youth among one of its many mandates. Again, there is the Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA) which aims at providing financial and technical assistance to citizens to develop their businesses (CEDA, 2016). Not only does CEDA offer financial assistance to developing businesses but also to already existing ones. What is more, it also offers training, mentorship and advisory services to new entrepreneurs as well as those that have been in the industry for a while. • 25. A Study On Cell Adhesion Molecules Name: Instructor s Name: Course: Date: Cell Adhesion Molecules Introduction Cells are independent units of life. However, when a cell becomes part of an organism, it becomes part of a tissue and organ system. Cells in a tissue are joined to each other and to the extracellular matrix (ECM) by cell junctions. There are three kinds of cell junctions: Occluding junctions, anchoring junctions and communication junctions. Occluding junctions occur in the epithelium where the adjacent cells are so tightly sealed together that even small molecules cannot pass. Communicating junctions allow the exchange of chemical and electrical signals between cells. Anchoring junctions are the ones which attach a cell either to its neighbor or to the extracellular matrix. Formation of an anchoring junction requires the cells to stick to each other. Various molecules mediate adhesion between cells following which the cytoskeleton forms a structure around them. The anchoring junctions thus formed can be of four types desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, focal adhesions and adherens junctions. In order for a proper tissue to form, it is important for the cells of the tissue to bind together. It is equally important to prevent the invasion and binding of other cells. Thus, cell adhesion has to be specific. This is where the cell adhesion molecules come into play (Alberts et al. 2002). Cell Adhesion Molecules (CAMs) Adhesion of cells to other cells and to the ECM is mediated by certain proteins on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What is it but another form of barbarism? Don t these populations, these inferior races, have the same rights as you? Aren t they masters of their own houses? (258). Pelletan jeers and condemns Ferry, but Ferry sticks to his racist ideas and continues to put the inferior races under him. Ferry continues to talk about the superiority he thinks Europe has over everyone. He states, Gentlemen, I must speak from a higher and more truthful plane. (258). Ferry is showing that he thinks he is superior to those he is speaking to and sees himself as a superior to others and that he is above the inferiors. He then continues to make it clear that superiors have control over the inferiors, It must be stated openly that, in effect, superior races have rights over inferior races. (258). Throughout his speech, Ferry tries to show what the positives of Imperialism is, but does not acknowledge the negatives for the expansion and take over of certain territories. One of the biggest problems with mining is that in some places dangerous gas s may exist, like Carbon Monoxide. In the past we had very cruel and inhuman ways to detect harmful gases. One of these ways was the use of canaries. Miners would let them fly into a part of the mine where a poison gas was suspected. If there was a harmful gas, the bird would fall over dead at the first scent of the gas. Today, we have better ways to detect gases without having animals die. We now have detection machines in all parts of mines. Mines also have top of the line fire alarms and water systems. While hunting is not needed for survival in today s society every year thousands of hunters take to the woods in pursuit of their quarry. While many people think these hunters are all the same there are two main sects that make up the hunting community; gun hunters and bowhunters. While both methods of hunting are similar and share many common points, there are some key differences between the two as well. While bowhunting is more challenging and the less popular of the two methods, and being less popular is often seen as a bad thing, bowhunting s lack of popularity and increased challenge is what makes it the true pure form of hunting. The first difference between gun hunting and bowhunting are the hunting seasons themselves. The gun hunting season in Michigan goes from November 15 to November 30. This only allows gun hunters a short two week time period to go hunting. Because of how popular gun hunting is and how short the season is hunters flock to the woods during this two week period. Many people enjoy hunting for the piece and quiet they get to enjoy away from the noises and hustle and bustle of everyday life. Gun hunters do not get to enjoy this peace and quiet however. Alkyl Halides In this lab, the experimenters will determine how the structure of an alkyl halide (i.e. methyl, primary, secondary, or tertiary), steric effects, nature of a leaving group, and solvent polarity affect the relative rates of SN1 and SN2 reactions. In addition, comparing the rates of reactions under varying concentrations of alkyl halides and nucleophiles will help determine the rate laws for both types of nucleophilic substitution reactions. During SN2 reactions, a good nucleophile, like iodide, will displace the leaving group on an alkyl halide in a single step that results in an inversion of configuration. Methyl, primary, and some secondary halides undergo this bimolecular substitution reaction. Minimal steric effects combined with a good leaving group and a polar, aprotic solvent ... After this rate limiting step, rapid reaction with a weak nucleophile (e.g. ethanol) attacking from either side of the carbocation completes the substitution reaction. A good leaving group capable of delocalizing a negative charge aids in the formation of the initial carbocation. Additionally, polar, protic solvents capable of solvating and stabilizing a carbocation support the SN1 mechanism. Tertiary alkyl halides provide the ideal substrate for the formation of a stable tertiary carbocation that favors the SN1 mechanisms. • 45. Stereotypes Against Racism My dear friends and comrades on the Left, Let me start out by saying: thank you for saving my life. And that s not hyperbole: it took me a while to find you, but when I did, you helped guide me in a meaningful direction. Instead of drowning myself in booze or escaping into a world of drugs, I found the antiwar movement and the world of progressive political activism. For that, I am extremely thankful. When I was 18 years old, you might have found me on one of those YouTube clips progressives post when they catch ignorant teenagers saying ignorant things on camera. You know the sort of clips I m referring to, I m sure. Usually, someone with a camera confronts a couple young people, asks them a series of questions and from there the laughs take care of themselves. At that time, I didn t care about politics, or race, or culture or anything, really. I did care about sports and working out. I cared about sex. And I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I guess it s an easy way to identify oneself when speaking publicly or having conversations about organizing and so forth. Regardless, that s not what s important. What s important is that I would like my leftist friends, or at least those who identify as such, to rethink their position on Bernie Sanders U.S. Presidential campaign. To be clear, I don t work for his campaign, nor is anyone paying me to say this (I always think it s important to disclose any self interests if/when they exist). • 47. Essay On Stereotype Threat The Effects of Stereotype Threat and Self Enhancement on Self Esteem Stereotypes or widely held and oversimplified beliefs about a person or thing have both pros and cons and we are all guilty of using them. Although they have made life easier by helping us quickly navigate the world and have helped us understand different cultures norms and values they can also turn sour when they undermine a culture by portraying them in a negative light. Negative stereotypes about African Americans are an example of this. Today s culture is filled with stereotypes about African Americans. For instance, according to Welch (2007) In American society, a prevalent representation of crime is that it is overwhelmingly committed by young Black men (p. 276). Continuing on, Welch (2007) notes that the image of a young Black male as a violent and menacing street thug is fueled and perpetuated by typifications everywhere (p. 276). Such stereotypes can play a major role in how one views a particular group and if one is part of that in group, how they might view themselves. Nonetheless, my group chose to focus specifically on stereotype threat. Stereotype threat is defined as the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about one s in group. • 50. Legislation On Antibiotics A letter to legislation on the use of antibiotics Overtime, antibiotics have been favorable as well as negligent to society. Antibiotic usage is helpful to society because it kills and fights off bacteria in both humans and animals. With an increase in antibiotic usage, these bacteria have become resistant to certain drugs which reduce the chance of the bacteria being killed off and result in bacteria multiplying, causing increased harm to the infected. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2013), each year in the United States at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die each year as a result to these infections.
