History Of The Luray Caverns
The Luray Caverns are a natural wonder and national treasure. Walking through them feels like an
unearthly experience. The National Park Service and the Department of Interior designated Luray
Caverns a Registered Natural Landmark. This site has an excellent piece of the Nation s geoheritage,
contributes to a better understanding of man s environment, and deserves to be protected.
The formation of the Luray Caverns began 600 million years ago as North America separated from
Europe and Africa. An indent from Alabama to Newfoundland was formed, and an ancient sea flooded
the area. Layers of sediments accumulated on the ocean floor, followed by limestone sediments from
fossilized marine animals and shells. After millions of years, the two layers

CNS Breath Right Strips
Analysis of CNS Breath Right Strips Introduction According to the text, Breathe Right Strips were
invented by Bruce Johnson, a chronic nasal congestion sufferer. Mr. Johnson Brought his creation to
CNS Inc. CNS took the product and primarily marketed it to sports teams, nasal sufferers and night
time snorers. The product really became prominent when Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers wore
the product in the Super Bowl. According to cns.com, Breathe Right Strips is also available in vapor
strips, clear and tan strips, and nasal strips for kids. Some of the other products include nasal spray,
throat spray, fiberchoice and a portable vaporizer. Armed with these few, but strong products in 1995
CNS, decided to go global. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can make it more of a need item rather than a luxury item. They could benchmark the product
developed by gin miller. They could make the product reusable. This would also attract the people of
developing countries who don t have the disposable income to continue to buy the product. Another
way to do this is dumping. They could severely reduce the price of the product initially to create the
demand, and then slowly increase the price as the demand rises for the product. They can also create
signage to attract buyers in the pharmacies that have the product displayed behind the counters. They
can also develop billboards and other advertising that is tailored and messages the local customs and
beliefs of the different geographical sectors. They can also give out coupons to attract people that are
unaware of the product. They can also opt to do what they have always done, because the product is
successful. To take the do nothing approach is dreadful, because the competition is out there lurking,
just waiting for CNS to rest on their laurels. Conclusion The CNS Company is already a successful
company due to the achievements of its breathing right strips. In my analysis we learned that they
already do a lot of things right. What they need to be aware of is the different economical situations in
the global marketplace, there are different ways that the product is approved abroad, and there is
competition lurking. CNS needs to continue

Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles
Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution
Graham Jackson
LSAL 3133 301
Introduction Thesis Statement
I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict
management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in
determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style.
Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is
largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to
analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin
(2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more content

By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level of
concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of conflict
management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and the conflict
resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while having high
concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as obliging. Even
more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding style of conflict. In
this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above overview of the conflict
management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this study. Hopeck, Desrayaud,
Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that should be geared towards
having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The author outlined how solution
oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in comparison to the other styles of
conflict management The dominating style of conflict management is one that Cai and Fink (2002)
linked to frustration. In the authors explanation, it is natural for people to default to the dominating

Mrs Mallards Response
The short story The story of an Hour by Kate Chopin displays Mrs. Mallards reaction when hearing
about the death of her husband. When first hearing about the news of her husband s passing Mrs.
Mallard is devastated, but moments later she is relieved and realized that she is free, free, free! (15).
Mrs. Mallards response when hearing about her husband s death is shocking and different from how
most wives would respond, but she did not stop to ask if it were or were not a monstrous joy that held
her (16). After Mrs. Mallard had a few minutes alone, her sister came knocking on the door asking her
sister to come out because she was worried that she may be making herself ill. Eventually Mrs.
Mallard opened the bedroom door and collapsed

Competitive Strategy Coopers Brewery Essay
[pic] Competitive Strategy Assessment 3 Individual Assignment: Business Report 29th November
2010 Coopers Brewery Grant Semmler Student ID: 110013428 [pic] executive Summary This report
examines the current competitive strategies of Coopers Brewery Limited (Coopers); a family owned
South Australian based beer producer. Coopers is a public company which is not listed on the
Australian Stock Exchange, currently holding a 3.4% market share of the Australian beer market
(Coopers Chairman s Report, 2009). Its major competitors are the Fosters Group and Lion Nathan
together holding 94% of the Australian beer market (Byrom Lehman, 2009). The company exports to

COMPANY ANALYSIS SWOT PESTLE The SWOT analysis (Appendix 1) shows that Coopers has a
competitive advantage in the company s style of advertising and its crafted beers position. The main
threats are from being a small niche player and having no imported beer products. In simple terms,
niche (marketing) can be defined as fulfilling the needs of a tightly defined market segment (Kotler
and Keller 2006). Through its products, Coopers focuses on various niches, but the principal market
for its main product group consists of those drinkers aged over 35 for whom product quality is
important and price is not a primary consideration. From PESTLE (Appendix 2) the key findings are:
Compliance and understanding of the implications and ever evolving laws associated with
manufacturing and distribution of alcohol (e.g. excise duties increases). Implementation of innovative
technology. This is evidenced through its state of the art brewing, bottling and manufacturing robotics
in the Regency Park plant. Fulfilment of environmental obligations through eco friendly plant and
processes to reduce its carbon footprint. This was recognised and awarded by the South Australian

Feudalism And Social System In Medieval Europe
TERMS
LATE MEDIEVAL EUROPE
1. Feudalism
Social system that dominated medieval Europe, in which there were divisions in social classes that
resulted in a social hierarchy with the king/queen on top, nobles and lords underneath, knights and
vassals next, merchants, farmers, and skilled craftsmen/tradesmen next, and peasants and serfs on the
bottom.
?
Feudalism developed because in 476 C.E.., the Roman Empire fell, causing chaos and little to no
effective political leadership to lead the people out of the dark times.
The importance of feudalism is that it was a type of government. It may not have been the most
effective or unifying government, but it was a system that got the people through the Medieval Period.
It later made way for the monarchy system found in many European countries later on in history.
2. Scholasticism
A system of thought with the purpose of using classical thinking and church teaching by emphasizing
reason, tradition, dogmas and faith. Ex: Thomas Aquinas
During the middle ages in Europe. Taught in medieval European universities.
The Catholic Church used this concept to pull people in and become more knowledgeable about the
bible as well as reinforcing tradition. Thoughts of humans weren t based on scientific concepts, but on
consulting the higher authority. It did add some knowledge to the society, but it slowed the cultural
growth and progress of Europe.
Scholasticism was important because it encourages scholarly questions about faith, belief, and

King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities
While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter
King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the
legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of any
King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things that
Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some
similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the
similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with,
the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. In The Acts of
King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the novel goes in depth into
how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. In The Winter King, Arthur is not ... Show

that Arthur fell in love with Guinevere in both legends, in The Acts of King Arthur, she is said she will
be unfaithful to Arthur by Merlin as a warning but Arthur married her anyways. A similar turn of

Climbing Mount Everest In Jon Krakauer s Into Thin Air
Climbing Mount Everest, though a great accomplishment few can say to have done, is a life
threatening ordeal. In the book, Into Thin Air, the audience is guided through the entire tragic event
through the author, Jon Krakauer s eyes. Whilst conquering Mount Everest, eight lives were taken
from them on May 10 11, both clients and guides. But the big question still remains unsettled; Who is
responsible for the deaths that occurred on Mount Everest? Jon Krakauer holds greed accountable for
the all the deaths that day. Though there isn t a certain to put blame upon, it was more of a certain
group s fault than it was others. Careless mistakes and decisions were also huge factors which
eventually led up to their disaster. Mountain climbing is already a dangerous sport itself but making it
a competition took it to a whole different level of danger. Everywhere you looked, there was
competition; sherpas were competing against one another to be hired by the guiding services, guide
services were competing for the publicity and exposure from the media, even Krakauer was being
fought for by two guides to be in their group because of the exposure Krakauer s going to bring after
he publicizes his article about his expedition. Nepal were mindless when allowing who could and who
could not climb. They would let just about anyone go for the right amount of money and the guides,
who were more experienced, should have known better to let such inexperienced climbers go. Everest

Forest produce usage should be in favour of tribal and locals as they can manage minor produce to

various sectors and linkage of economy with outside are important. Trade can work both ways, but
efforts should be to use it effectively for betterment of poor. Tax structure requires a re look to

Frankenstein Personal Response
1.) Initially, my first impression of this excerpt was unique. I felt as though I have read similar
situations in other novels, however, the author describes the environment unlike any other. First, I
wondered what the aliens were planning, and what effect it would have on humanity. Similarly, the
characters in the book behaved the same way, some trying to communicate with the aliens, and others
just wondering about them. It felt as though we were all moths flying around a bug zapper, too
mystified to realize the immediate danger posed by the aliens. Only when it was too late, did the main
character break out of his trance and escape.
2.) The genre of this selection is science fiction, however, the excerpt I read could be classified as a

First, the author provides exposition, seen in the first three paragraphs. Second, rising action occurs as
the main character watches as a strange flame emerges in the alien craft. After this, the climax
transpires, and the surrounding pedestrians are engulfed in this strange flame. Unwinding, the falling
action ensues, as the main character watches in bewilderment as the alien ship destroys everything
besides him. Concluding, the denouement befalls, as the main character finally flees.
4.) During this excerpt, the protagonist s name is unknown, however, he is the character in which the
story is told. Opposing him, is this strange alien craft which is the antagonist.
5.) The most important traits of the main character are his bravery, curiosity, and humanity. He
displays each of these when he approaches the alien craft, wondering what it is, he asks others around
him. Without these three traits, the narrative would be very different, as he likely would have fled
much quickly.
6.) Only one setting in seen in this work. That setting is the heather filled area the main character finds

shown in this work, as the main character doesn t describe any other. Although it is made apparent

Could it position the product in other ways?
It seems that the Trap Ease mouse trap has positioned itself in the market as being a very innovative
and well engineered product. It has done this by winning awards from trade shows and magazines. If it
is better able to connect these features of the mouse traps with the needs and wants of their target
consumers then they should be able to generate a larger demand. They could also try to change it s
position a little bit.
Trap Ease could also position the product as causing less waist because it is re useable or they could
lower it s cost and make it more affordable. By making it the most affordable, innovative mouse trap
on the market they could probably gain some more demand. Another way in which they could position
their product would be by having an incredibly good customer service team that could deliver services
to their customers that were having problems using the product. By having a good customer service
team they could build better relationships with their customers and increase their customer equity

other filmmaking industries. As influential as Hollywood is, there are always going to be opinions of

Around the world today, everything is influenced by popular culture, and popular culture is greatly
influenced by the United States. It s no surprise that Hollywood is well known globally because the
best way to share popular culture is through movies and music. As previously stated, popular culture
has been disliked at times, which also means Hollywood is disliked as well. The reason for this is
because many countries think there s too much nudity and too much violence in the movies that are
made in Hollywood. However, America has persevered because in order to be the best, one has to deal
with criticism. American media continues to do very well abroad, especially Hollywood products that
are known to be a key engine of our economy . Without it, our economy probably would not be on the

to our economy people around the world like Hollywood a lot. It s not the dislike for American
cultures that causes countries to ban American films from their countries. For many, it s because of the
huge cultural gap that exists. According to Iranian National Media Council, the theme of the film does

the main competitors in these races is Lance Armstrong. He is also one of the main drug users in these

What Makes a Just Society Essay
What Makes A Just Society?
Throughout history, people have been trying to create an improved, fair, and equal system of justice,
not only to better society in which one lives, but to also find a sense of meaning in what
responsibilities people should hold within their civilizations in order to create this just way of living.
As early as the Old Testament within the Bible, we see examples of how the Hebrews formed their
own justice. This can be seen in the in text of the Ten Commandments which were written in a form of
law. Laws were significant even in this basic form of context, such as the Ten Commandments, which
offered the ideas of right and wrongdoings and the sin for violating others for one s own benefit. This

The idea then of a just society I contend, comes down to people living under a fair and common law,
order, political system, social organization, as well as everyone having personal and political freedom.
Many people, besides myself, have also contemplated this question, whether a utopian society could
exist, and have put forth their own theories. Karl Marx and John Rawls are two thinkers that
questioned what the theory of justice. Marx believed that history was always moving forward towards
a utopian ending. Marx disliked injustice and declared this in his Communist Manifesto in 1846. His
theory is centered on the idea that forms of society rise and fall as they develop and then became an
obstacle for the development of human productive power and reality is governed by economic needs.
This belief means that the present organization of society must be destroyed. To establish this new
society, people must be organized and take up the struggle against the capitalists who take advantage
of them. This struggle, according to Marx, will end in victory for the workers. However, Marx was
unable to discover what laws and principles that would produce the just society in which he strived
for. John Rawls was the second most important political thinker of his time. His main contribution to
the idea of a civil society is his theory of justice. Rawls believed in social primary goods which
included rights,

Women s Rights By Doris Humphrey And Ruth St. Denis
As ballets were about telling stories or formulating movements, modern dance broke the rules and
started to focus more on individual expressions. Loie Fuller (1862 1928), Doris Humphrey (1895
1958), and Ruth St. Denis (1877 1968) were pioneering women who took a stand and used their dance
performance to speak up for women s rights. Using dance, they significantly contributed to the
Feminist movement in which they embraced self expression and creativity so that women could be
acknowledged in the dance field and in the society as a whole. During the late nineteenth and early
twentieth century, they found for women s rights by taking dance to a new form, and creating dances
to speak directly and intimately to the viewer (Au 89). Loie Fuller, Doris Humphrey, and Ruth St.
Denis demonstrated the transformation of dance with their innovation of costumes and stage lighting,
incorporation of foreign cultures into performance, and creation of natural movements and individual
expression that rejected the formal structures of ballet to deform a woman s body, allowing women to
be free from stereotype of a traditional woman.
In the 19th century, women were seen as a fragile, weak figure who always depended on men. Rules
for dressing were very strict as women had to wear a tight corset with their hair tied up at all times; the
only time a woman was allowed to wear her hair down was at home for her husband. They did not

Hansel Schmitt, Hedwig Schmitt, Hedwig Robinson, and that hooker on the street with nice hair; all
are what we now call: Hedwig. All of these names and incarnations of this being imply a twisted and
interesting story. It is a story written, directed, and performed by John Cameron Mitchell. Hedwig and
the Inch is a rock musical that came into being through a very odd process. John Cameron Mitchel and
a friend of his, Stephen Trask, came together and created a band that in and of itself would be a
performance art piece. The duo wrote dialogue, music, and spoken word poetry under the guise of this

Bashmatchkin s Pride In The Overcoat, By Nikolai Gogol
In The Overcoat, Nikolai Gogol reveals just how shallow and judgmental humans are about the
appearance and social status of their peers. Bashmatchkin s coworkers do not respect him. No respect
at all was shown him in the department. The porters, far from getting up from their seats when he
came in, took no more notice of him than if a simple fly had flown across the reception room (762).
The reason for their attitude towards him is because of his appearance. He looks a bit unkempt in
comparison to his coworkers, specifically because of his ratty old coat, and they see him as being
beneath them; they make fun of him because of this. The young clerks jeered and made jokes at him to
the best of their clergy wit, and told before his face all sorts of stories of their own invention about
him (762). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a new coat made. When his new coat is finished and he wears it to work, suddenly everyone has a
change of heart about Bashmatchkin. They all ran out at once into the cloakroom to look at Akaky

Essay on Final Project Plan
Final Project Plan Paper Introduction In the Telecommunications industry, balancing assets and

their applications are becoming more sophisticated. Small Telecommunications companies, in an

success of this project will be defined by three important measurable aspects. All the deadlines and
scheduled deliverables must be met. Any length of time spent with the current cost and revenue

When creation myths are known to have one main interpretation in each religion to explain the
creation of the world and its inhabitants. While explanatory myths explain natural processes these are

meant to explain the natural process of life and the understanding of humility through the main

What Are The Four Approaches Of Cognitive Psychology
INTRODUCTION
The very concept of cognitive psychology comes from the fact that human beings receive stimuli from
the outside environment. Human beings are influenced by stimuli outside their immediate
environment. These stimuli end up influencing the behaviour an individual will display when faced
with different life events. However, these stimuli go through many processes before it could be
interpreted by the individual. The brain has to receive the information, and give some interpretations
to it. These internal processes are what cognitive psychology is all about. The assignment will focus
on the different approaches to cognitive psychology.
MAJOR APPROACHES TO UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE PROCESSES
1. Information Processing Approach
This approach simply assumes that the human being is a processor of information just in a similar way
like the computer. Information processing approach to cognitive psychology sees the mind as an
information processors and that is possible and desirable to study the internal processes that lie
between the environmental stimuli and the response individuals give to it. This approach argues that
information made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human Experimental psychology simply means the act of using many experimental methods to study
human behaviour. With regard to cognitive psychology, psychologists have often made use of animals
to understand how human brains function in terms of getting information, processing it and storing it
for short term or long term purposes. Experimental psychologists could use human or animal
participants to study some topics like sensation and perception, memory, cognition, learning,
motivation, emotion, etc. all these processes are all components of cognitive psychology and in one
way or the other has something to do with human cognition. As a result, to gain more insight into how
they function, a detailed experimentation could sometimes be done into these areas through the use of
different scientific methods of

Yeast Concentration Lab Report
In the standard protocol with only glucose and yeast, Figure 1 indicates that Tube 3 with the most
yeast concentration has the greatest values, and tube 2 which has 1.4% yeast produces less CO2. From
the data collected it can be concluded glucose and yeast is necessary in the production of , which
agrees with the equation for glycolysis since glucose is the sugar that supplies the energy and yeast is
the substance that performs the cycle. The higher concentration of yeast will result in more CO2since
there is more substance to undergo glycolysis which produces CO2. As shown from Figure 1, the
tubes that did not have any yeast or glucose resulted in no production of CO2 since they are missing
factors to undergo glycolysis, and since they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, with the additional fructose, it was hypothesized to cause a faster rate of fermentation of the
yeast, yet the standard protocol with fructose was shown to be significantly faster with a rate of 0.3
while fructose was 0.00001. However, the results do agree with the background information found
since it has been hypothesized that the yeast may be destroyed by the toxicity because fructose
decreased the tolerance for ethanol in yeast (Francisco Javier De la Torre Gonzalez Jose). It also
supports the experiment performed by Zinnai, Venturi and others, they found that metabolization of
glucose is preferred over fructose (Zinnai, Venturi, Sanmartin, Quartacci, Andrich, 2013). Our results
adds onto previous experiments and supports their findings which lead the conclusions found one step
closer to being defined and completely explained since it is important to do further research after only
one experiment to ensure that it is accurate and precise. Nonetheless, both experiments do support the
conclusion that yeast concentration is positively correlation with production of CO2 since even though
with fructose, the rate was significantly slower, it was still

The History of Athens, Greece Athens history dates back longer than any other European city. Located

sometime in the third millennium BC, and the city today has come a long way by building a very
successful society with over five million residents. In the beginning, the geographic location and
climate played a role in why people chose to live here, but today people travel from all over the world

Athens attacked Sicily, but with the help of the Spartans, the Sicily city of Syracuse broke the
blockade the Athenians had set up. The Spartans defeated the Athenian army and then destroyed them
once they tried to retreat. Athens was now stuck in a political turmoil, and their democracy was
overthrown by the oligarchical party. Due to several military victories, the Athenian navy found
confidence in themselves and decided to begin working on restoring the democracy. Sparta offered to
come to a peace agreement with Athens, but Athenian democratic leaders declined which lead to the
war at sea to continue. In 404 BC the war finally ended with the Athenians surrendering and Sparta
stripping them of their empire. Fortunately, Sparta did not destroy the city itself. Athens capitulated
and their defeat resulted as the worst war so far in history, hurting Greece s military strength.
Thucydides who was an Athenian general during the war stated that the cause behind the war was
human greed and desire for power, and he viewed the war as a complete disaster. Many people
probably wonder how it was possible for Athens to still be a powerful city after all the devastation the
city went through. Fortunately, all the events leading up to the loss to Sparta helped keep Athens
history alive and the achievements of Athens in philosophy, drama, and art continued even after the
city s success faded. After a long

Associating is like the backbone structure of DNA s double helix; four patterns of action (questioning,
observing, experimenting, and networking) wind around this backbone, helping to cultivate new
insights. And just as each person s physical DNA is unique, each individual we studied had a unique
innovator s DNA for generating breakthrough business ideas.
Imagine that you have an identical twin, endowed with the same brains and natural talents that you
have. You re both given one week to come up with a creative new business venture idea. During that
week, you come up with ideas alone in your room. In contrast, your twin (1) talks with 10 people
including an engineer, a musician, a stayat home dad, and a designer about the venture,
(2) visits three innovative start ups to observe what they do, (3) samples five new to the market
products, (4) shows a prototype he s built to five people, and (5) asks the questions What if I tried

The Driving Forces Behind Tom Robbins
The debate over whether or not possessing these qualities truly makes a wise being is a very
complicated and difficult one; however they are the driving forces behind Tom Robbins s writing.
Humor is one of the most obvious themes in Robbins s writing. His work has a sort of clever and witty
comedic aspect: And that s why when you ve exhibited the slightest tendency toward self importance,
I ve reminded you that you and me you and I: excuse me may be every bit as important as the
President or the pope or the biggest prime time icon in Hollywood, but none of us is much more than a
pimple on the ass end of creation, so let s not get carried away with ourselves. Preventive medicine,
boy. It s preventive medicine. But what about self esteem? Heh! Self esteem is for sissies. Accept that
you re a pimple and try to keep a lively sense of humor about it. That way lies grace and maybe even
glory. This quote not only uses strange and comedic phrasing, pimple on the ass end of creation, but
talks about the importance of humor. There are many laugh out loud moments within this book. For
example when Switters is on XTC and is reciting poetry to a pumpkin and his grandmother walks in,
Switters! MAestra had entered the room behind him. What the hell are you saying to that poor fruit? Is
this what nine hours of modern poetry does to a man (Robbins 15)? The entire plot of the book is
humorous in a sense: A contradictory, 36 year old CIA agent is ordered by his grandmother to

Compare And Contrast Atonement And Pride And Prejudice
Throughout the years, things have been known to be similar and yet be different at the same time. A
true example of this is the comparison of Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. In these two wonderful
stories, comparisons can be found over subjects like class, love, war, family, as well as societal issues.
It may not make sense at first as to why a reader would want to compare these two stories, but after
looking at them carefully, one can come away from the comparisons and be filled with a knowledge
that could end up teaching great historical lessons as well as moral lessons. It just goes to show a
reader that two things can be different but, in the same way, be completely the same, and in the end,
can teach important lessons.
An example of a comparison which can be found between Atonement and Pride and Prejudice has to
do with family. In Atonement, for example, there is Cecilia s family which is a well to do family that
has learned how to be proper and sophisticated. Even at the most trying times in life, like when the
twins ran off, they were still proper in the way they went about the matter. Atonement also shows the
family of Robbie and his mother, and how even though they were poor, they tried their hardest to live
life at its best. They were hardworking people who worked for this rich family and because they were
so good, they touched the hearts of the rich family, and were able to expand their life to a degree that
without Cecilia s family, they could not have done.

The Epidemic Of The Zika Virus
The rare tropical virus has been prompting a worldwide concern lately. A number of cases has been

For most people, the Zika infection is not a big deal. The problem is that areas affected by the Zika
outbreak are seeing an unusual rise in some serious conditions, and evidence points to the virus as the
cause. Dozens of other Zika cases have surfaced the United States, but has involved people who
became infected with the mosquito born virus while traveling to Zika affect countries. (Fox News,
2016)
In 1947, the Zika virus was first identified in a monkey that was being used to monitor the presence of
yellow fever virus in the Zika Forest of Uganda. A year later, the virus was also found in the mosquito
species, Aedes africanus, that was caught on a tree platform in the same forest. In 1952, the first
human case was detected in Uganda and United Republic of Tanzania in a study demonstrating the
presence of neutralizing antibodies to Zika virus. The first outbreak of the disease outside of Africa

separating them into three components using fractional distillation. Distillation is the act of heating
and cooling liquids in order to obtain a pure sample. There are two main types of distillation: simple
distillation and fractional distillation. Simple distillation is the most basic form of a distillation. This
method is more helpful when the separation between a liquid and a solid needs to happen or between
two liquids with boiling points that have a difference of about 50°C or higher. Fractional distillation is
similar to simple distillation; however, it is used to separate two liquids with similar boiling points.
Fractional distillation works by first heating up the solution of the two liquids. Once the solution
begins to boil, the unknown compound that has a lower boiling point will evaporate and rise into a
distillation apparatus. The newly formed gas will travel through the apparatus until it is cooled down,
at which point the gas will not be able to maintain the energy needed for this specific phase, and will
begin to condense back into a liquid. The same process will occur with the second liquid, the only
difference being that it needed a higher temperature in order to transform into a gas. The two new
liquids will each have a higher percentage of the unknown compound, thus making them have a higher
purity rate.
The second technique that will be used to identify

Immigrant Ancestors
What Jessica s discovers about her German American immigrant ancestors is relevant to her growth as
a teacher and a person, they expand her one sided view on being white, and being a teacher to
Mexican American students. As Jessica became more comfortable with her ancestors she became to
discuss them more in social aspects, I was just struck by how easy it was for him to get so many acres
from the government back then. Well it probably wasn t easy, she stammered. I mean, he had to came
all the way from Germany, [...] It was easier for him than it was for my people, Vic said earnestly,
unfazed by Jessica s sudden discomfort, without even going into a comparison of how your people and
my people got across the Atlantic. You said your ancestors

Similarities Between Ransom Of Red Cheif And Home Alone
Some people have heard the theme be careful what you wish for . This lesson or theme has been used
in movies, books, etc. The theme is the lesson or message your supposed to learn. Ransom of Red
Cheif by O henry and the movie Home Alone have some of the same theme s. Beware of strangers is
one themeused in both movie and book. According to the text Hey, little boy . Says Bill would you
like to have a bag of candy and a nice ride ? This means that Sam and Bill are trying to kidnap Red
Cheif and Red Cheif tried to get away. An example from the movie is when Harry and Marve said that
Santa Clause was at the door. This reveals that Kevin has strangers trying to get into his house. Crime
doesnt pay is another theme used in both movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both movie and story share verbal irony. In Rasnom of Red Cheif the author states The boy is gone. I
have sent him home. All of our plans are off... Red Cheif was behind bill . This reveals that Bill was
using verbal by telling Sam that the boy is gone. An example of verbal irony from the movie is when
Kevin says Goodnight Kevin afterhis mom says it to him. This menas that Kevin wasnt really telling
himself goodnight he was mocking his mom. The movie Home Alone and the book Ransom of Red
Cheif both have situational irony in them. One example from the text is Sam and Bill had to pay Mr.
Dorset to take Red Cheif back. This illustrates situational irony becuase Sam and Bill wanted money
from Mr. Dorset but instead paid Mr. Dorset. In the movie one example of situational irony is when
Kevin goes to the grociery store and buys food, laundry detergent, etc. This shows situational irony
because a little wouldnt usually go to a store by themselves. Both the movie and the book have
dramatic irony in them. The book Ransom of Red Cheif has dramatic irony in it. One example of
dramatic irony is when Bill told Sam that Red Cheif was gone but we know that he was right behind
him. This shows dramatic irony becuase we know a secret that Sam didnt. An example of dramatic
irony from Home Alone is when the mom says Hope we didnt forget anything . This shows dramatic
irony because we know that Kevin was left at homebut the family

C. Hildren s Literature
C hildren s literature is universally known for its wide range of works, including acknowledged
classics of world literature, picture books and easy to read stories written expressly for children, in
addition to its many fairy tales, lullabies, fables, folk songs, and other primarily orally transmitted
materials (Encyclopedia of Literature 237). In this encyclopedic denotation, we fail to see the presence
of realistic fiction, wherein everyday events, particularized settings, and characters from all ranks on
life are portrayed (Segel 417). Most people hold firm to the belief that children s literature is only
limited to hope and happy endings, when it is truly unbounded and free to be expressed in whatsoever
way is possible.
Moreover, in recent debates discussing realism or mimesis in children s literature and its ongoing aim
to reflect more accurately the random and inclusive nature of actual events and the complex
individuality of actual people (Segel 417), the problematic issue that continues to arise is whether
realistic fiction is too realistic for the children it is ostensibly written for. Two books that are in
question specifically at the moment are Kimberly Willis Holt s My Louisiana Sky and Rita Williams
Garcia s One Crazy Summer. In both narratives, authors Holt and Williams Garcia take their implied
audiences (children) on a journey through explicit subject matter foreign and forbidden in the fruitful
and fantastical garden of conventional children s

The Party s Manipulation In Oceania
8. The Party is almost in complete control over the citizens in Oceania because of all of the
psychological manipulation that they have done to them. The Party has basically turned the people in
Oceania into robots that aren t allowed to think for themselves and do the things that they feel is right
because the Party has manipulated them into thinking a certain way. One way that the Party
psychologically manipulates the people is by overworking them, because when people are overworked
they are not able to think as well as they would when they were rested so it is easier to manipulate
them at their stage of weakness. For example this happened during Hate Week when all most of the
people in Oceania were overworked because of the change from ... Show more content on

The difference between Julia and Winston in terms of their resistance is that Julia is more educated
about the rebellion and that she has more experience with it. Julia is frustrated with the Party and she
wants to do something about it but she first learns all that she can about the Party to learn how to
defeat it, Winston on the other hand is just frustrated and wants to destroy the Party he does not really
think about the details that are involved. Winston is also very unhappy and angry in the novel but he is
not able to pinpoint why he is very unhappy and angry, he knows that he is because of the Party but he
does not know what aspects f the Party are making him feel this way. On the other hand Julia knows
what is wrong with the Party and she actually analyzes why the Party does the things that it does and
how the Party is helping itself out by doing these things. For example, in the novel Julia is able to
think about things like why the Party took away love and passion and her reasoning is that maybe
when they take away love and passion they can channel that into a massive love for the Party. Julia is
also very skilled at be undercover, she knows how to work the system and not get caught, but Winston
does not understand this. Winston is not as sneaky as Julia and wants to involve other people in his
rebellion before he knows that he can trust them whereas Julia takes time so she knows that it s safe.
Even though their two paths of resistance are different when they are paired together they make a
pretty strong team. Because Julia is so knowledgeable she is able to help Winston with his rebellious
ideas so that he will not get caught and Winston is able to help Julia be more rebellious in different
ways with his young mind of resistance. From this you would think that this team would be invincible
but they are not because they both end up getting caught because they were not sneaky

Tax Fraud
Introduction
This paper will discuss the topic of tax fraud. We will begin by introducing the basic concepts of tax
fraud. Secondly, this paper will also delve into some of the laws that have been passed as punishment
for those parties that decide to commit tax fraud. We will also highlight some of the more current
examples of tax fraud that have been committed and the details that lead to the perpetrators being
caught. Lastly we will discuss the role that criminal investigators have in the realm of tax fraud. Tax
fraud can be stated simply as: willfully supplying fraudulent information on tax returns to the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS). As we know, no one is perfect and mistakes are made quite often, but the
operative word in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Current Fraud Schemes There have been many famous tax fraud cases over the years. The ability of
individuals to consistently find ingeniously creative ways of committing tax fraud, especially with the
magnitude of rules and regulations concerning tax, is astounding. Every year there are thousands of
instances of tax fraud schemes taking place, accounting for billions of dollars of lost revenues for the
IRS. In 2011 alone, the IRS reported roughly 2 million potentially fraudulent tax returns out of over
145 million tax returns filed.(htt) In addition to highly sophisticated tax fraud schemes, sometimes
very simple schemes are able to exist without interference. Of the approximately 2 million fraudulent
tax returns filed in 2011, identity theft accounted for about 450,000. (htt) In Tampa, FL for instance,
identity theft for the purpose of filing fraudulent tax returns has become more and more prevalent.
(htt1) Law enforcement bears witness to thousands of people annually in possession of ledgers, tax
filings, lists of SSN s and personal information, and refund debit cards. However, law states that it is
not illegal to simply possess this information, only to use it. Lack of ascertainable proof has forced the
police department to allow hundreds of perpetrators go free, creating a very frustrating situation for
everyone involved. Similarly, there has been a recent surge in the identity theft of Puerto Rican
citizens information. Since Puerto

Learning Disabilities Disadvantages
In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk an American educator and psychologist, founded the term known as
learning disabilities. This came about after he had visited with a few groups of parents a few times to
discuss why these parents children seem to have small amounts of success even when they are able to
understand and comprehend just like other children. As a result of these meetings the Learning
Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Then later in the mid 1970 s the
Education for All Handicapped Children Act was put into law which formally identified the concept of
learning disabilities (Pullen, 25). After these things were put in place, there was over 10 different
descriptions of what learning disabilities can be based off of. For this concept, it will be known as the
following description. Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s
ability to think and reason and not their understanding based on the results from tests. It is known that
around 4 to 5 percent of adolescents are considered to have LD. There are a few reasons why LD can
occur. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and
Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with many academic areas especially in reading. They also
have difficulties with interacting with others, expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings
of others. Last, is that adolescents with LD have a high chance of dropout rates

Organic Chemistry Lab 301A
B. The purpose of this lab is to study Infrared Spectroscopy, which focuses on the study of the
electromagnetic spectrum. The area to be studied is the infrared region, which is made up of gamma,
X, and UV rays. We want to be able to identify spectra s to their complementary structures. The
background of this experiment particularly deals with the study of compound structure determination,
and traits. We must be aware of the functional groups that occur in the compounds in order to
correctly assess accurate results. Molecular vibrations affect the frequency of the stretch or bend, and
the frequency of the bond is determined by 3 types of bonds between atoms. Infrared absorptions are

This means our obvious choice for the unknown is diethyl ether because there are no double bonds
involved and no nitro compounds.
It was very easy to make an error because of the high possibility that we had overlapping frequencies,
or because two unknowns could be very similar. In order to avoid errors, it was necessary to make
sure the frequencies were read very carefully and the spectra bonds were correctly identified. If we
were to make an error in distinguishing an unknown, this would automatically cause us to have 2 or
more incorrect Unknowns being identified. The Unknowns must be assessed by the frequency chart
and bond identification.

The National Park Service and the Department of Interior designated Luray Caverns a Registered Natural Landmark. This site has an excellent piece of the Nation s geoheritage, contributes to a better understanding of man s environment, and deserves to be protected. The formation of the Luray Caverns began 600 million years ago as North America separated from Europe and Africa. An indent from Alabama to Newfoundland was formed, and an ancient sea flooded the area. Layers of sediments accumulated on the ocean floor, followed by limestone sediments from fossilized marine animals and shells. After millions of years, the two layers ... • 3. CNS Breath Right Strips Analysis of CNS Breath Right Strips Introduction According to the text, Breathe Right Strips were invented by Bruce Johnson, a chronic nasal congestion sufferer. Mr. Johnson Brought his creation to CNS Inc. CNS took the product and primarily marketed it to sports teams, nasal sufferers and night time snorers. The product really became prominent when Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers wore the product in the Super Bowl. According to cns.com, Breathe Right Strips is also available in vapor strips, clear and tan strips, and nasal strips for kids. Some of the other products include nasal spray, throat spray, fiberchoice and a portable vaporizer. Armed with these few, but strong products in 1995 CNS, decided to go global. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can make it more of a need item rather than a luxury item. They could benchmark the product developed by gin miller. They could make the product reusable. This would also attract the people of developing countries who don t have the disposable income to continue to buy the product. Another way to do this is dumping. They could severely reduce the price of the product initially to create the demand, and then slowly increase the price as the demand rises for the product. They can also create signage to attract buyers in the pharmacies that have the product displayed behind the counters. They can also develop billboards and other advertising that is tailored and messages the local customs and beliefs of the different geographical sectors. They can also give out coupons to attract people that are unaware of the product. They can also opt to do what they have always done, because the product is successful. To take the do nothing approach is dreadful, because the competition is out there lurking, just waiting for CNS to rest on their laurels. Conclusion The CNS Company is already a successful company due to the achievements of its breathing right strips. In my analysis we learned that they already do a lot of things right. What they need to be aware of is the different economical situations in the global marketplace, there are different ways that the product is approved abroad, and there is competition lurking. • 4. Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution Graham Jackson LSAL 3133 301 Introduction Thesis Statement I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style. Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin (2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level of concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of conflict management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and the conflict resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while having high concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as obliging. Even more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding style of conflict. In this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above overview of the conflict management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this study. Hopeck, Desrayaud, Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that should be geared towards having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The author outlined how solution oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in comparison to the other styles of conflict management The dominating style of conflict management is one that Cai and Fink (2002) linked to frustration. In the authors explanation, it is natural for people to default to the dominating conflict ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When first hearing about the news of her husband s passing Mrs. Mallard is devastated, but moments later she is relieved and realized that she is free, free, free! (15). Mrs. Mallards response when hearing about her husband s death is shocking and different from how most wives would respond, but she did not stop to ask if it were or were not a monstrous joy that held her (16). In simple terms, niche (marketing) can be defined as fulfilling the needs of a tightly defined market segment (Kotler and Keller 2006). Through its products, Coopers focuses on various niches, but the principal market for its main product group consists of those drinkers aged over 35 for whom product quality is important and price is not a primary consideration. From PESTLE (Appendix 2) the key findings are: Compliance and understanding of the implications and ever evolving laws associated with manufacturing and distribution of alcohol (e.g. excise duties increases). • 9. Feudalism And Social System In Medieval Europe TERMS LATE MEDIEVAL EUROPE 1. Feudalism Social system that dominated medieval Europe, in which there were divisions in social classes that resulted in a social hierarchy with the king/queen on top, nobles and lords underneath, knights and vassals next, merchants, farmers, and skilled craftsmen/tradesmen next, and peasants and serfs on the bottom. ? Feudalism developed because in 476 C.E.., the Roman Empire fell, causing chaos and little to no effective political leadership to lead the people out of the dark times. The importance of feudalism is that it was a type of government. It may not have been the most effective or unifying government, but it was a system that got the people through the Medieval Period. It later made way for the monarchy system found in many European countries later on in history. 2. Scholasticism A system of thought with the purpose of using classical thinking and church teaching by emphasizing reason, tradition, dogmas and faith. Ex: Thomas Aquinas During the middle ages in Europe. Taught in medieval European universities. The Catholic Church used this concept to pull people in and become more knowledgeable about the bible as well as reinforcing tradition. Thoughts of humans weren t based on scientific concepts, but on consulting the higher authority. It did add some knowledge to the society, but it slowed the cultural growth and progress of Europe. King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of any King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things that Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with, the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. • 13. Climbing Mount Everest In Jon Krakauer s Into Thin Air Climbing Mount Everest, though a great accomplishment few can say to have done, is a life threatening ordeal. In the book, Into Thin Air, the audience is guided through the entire tragic event through the author, Jon Krakauer s eyes. Whilst conquering Mount Everest, eight lives were taken from them on May 10 11, both clients and guides. But the big question still remains unsettled; Who is responsible for the deaths that occurred on Mount Everest? Jon Krakauer holds greed accountable for the all the deaths that day. Though there isn t a certain to put blame upon, it was more of a certain group s fault than it was others. Careless mistakes and decisions were also huge factors which eventually led up to their disaster. Mountain climbing is already a dangerous sport itself but making it a competition took it to a whole different level of danger. Everywhere you looked, there was competition; sherpas were competing against one another to be hired by the guiding services, guide services were competing for the publicity and exposure from the media, even Krakauer was being fought for by two guides to be in their group because of the exposure Krakauer s going to bring after he publicizes his article about his expedition. I felt as though I have read similar situations in other novels, however, the author describes the environment unlike any other. First, I wondered what the aliens were planning, and what effect it would have on humanity. Similarly, the characters in the book behaved the same way, some trying to communicate with the aliens, and others just wondering about them. It felt as though we were all moths flying around a bug zapper, too mystified to realize the immediate danger posed by the aliens. Throughout history, people have been trying to create an improved, fair, and equal system of justice, not only to better society in which one lives, but to also find a sense of meaning in what responsibilities people should hold within their civilizations in order to create this just way of living. As early as the Old Testament within the Bible, we see examples of how the Hebrews formed their own justice. This can be seen in the in text of the Ten Commandments which were written in a form of law. Laws were significant even in this basic form of context, such as the Ten Commandments, which offered the ideas of right and wrongdoings and the sin for violating others for one s own benefit. The idea then of a just society I contend, comes down to people living under a fair and common law, order, political system, social organization, as well as everyone having personal and political freedom. Many people, besides myself, have also contemplated this question, whether a utopian society could exist, and have put forth their own theories. Karl Marx and John Rawls are two thinkers that questioned what the theory of justice. Marx believed that history was always moving forward towards a utopian ending. Marx disliked injustice and declared this in his Communist Manifesto in 1846. His theory is centered on the idea that forms of society rise and fall as they develop and then became an obstacle for the development of human productive power and reality is governed by economic needs. This belief means that the present organization of society must be destroyed. To establish this new society, people must be organized and take up the struggle against the capitalists who take advantage of them. This struggle, according to Marx, will end in victory for the workers. However, Marx was unable to discover what laws and principles that would produce the just society in which he strived for. John Rawls was the second most important political thinker of his time. His main contribution to the idea of a civil society is his theory of justice. • 21. Women s Rights By Doris Humphrey And Ruth St. Denis As ballets were about telling stories or formulating movements, modern dance broke the rules and started to focus more on individual expressions. Loie Fuller (1862 1928), Doris Humphrey (1895 1958), and Ruth St. Denis (1877 1968) were pioneering women who took a stand and used their dance performance to speak up for women s rights. Using dance, they significantly contributed to the Feminist movement in which they embraced self expression and creativity so that women could be acknowledged in the dance field and in the society as a whole. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, they found for women s rights by taking dance to a new form, and creating dances to speak directly and intimately to the viewer (Au 89). Loie Fuller, Doris Humphrey, and Ruth St. Denis demonstrated the transformation of dance with their innovation of costumes and stage lighting, incorporation of foreign cultures into performance, and creation of natural movements and individual expression that rejected the formal structures of ballet to deform a woman s body, allowing women to be free from stereotype of a traditional woman. In the 19th century, women were seen as a fragile, weak figure who always depended on men. Rules for dressing were very strict as women had to wear a tight corset with their hair tied up at all times; the only time a woman was allowed to wear her hair down was at home for her husband. • 28. What Are The Four Approaches Of Cognitive Psychology INTRODUCTION The very concept of cognitive psychology comes from the fact that human beings receive stimuli from the outside environment. Human beings are influenced by stimuli outside their immediate environment. These stimuli end up influencing the behaviour an individual will display when faced with different life events. However, these stimuli go through many processes before it could be interpreted by the individual. The brain has to receive the information, and give some interpretations to it. These internal processes are what cognitive psychology is all about. The assignment will focus on the different approaches to cognitive psychology. MAJOR APPROACHES TO UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE PROCESSES 1. Information Processing Approach This approach simply assumes that the human being is a processor of information just in a similar way like the computer. • 40. Compare And Contrast Atonement And Pride And Prejudice Throughout the years, things have been known to be similar and yet be different at the same time. A true example of this is the comparison of Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. In these two wonderful stories, comparisons can be found over subjects like class, love, war, family, as well as societal issues. It may not make sense at first as to why a reader would want to compare these two stories, but after looking at them carefully, one can come away from the comparisons and be filled with a knowledge that could end up teaching great historical lessons as well as moral lessons. It just goes to show a reader that two things can be different but, in the same way, be completely the same, and in the end, can teach important lessons. An example of a comparison which can be found between Atonement and Pride and Prejudice has to do with family. In Atonement, for example, there is Cecilia s family which is a well to do family that has learned how to be proper and sophisticated. Even at the most trying times in life, like when the twins ran off, they were still proper in the way they went about the matter. The Zika is mosquito borne virus that has spread rapidly across the world such as the warm parts of Latin America, from Brazil to Mexico and even Puerto Rico. [World Health Organization (WHO), 2016] The Zika virus is transmitted to humans by the same type of mosquito, Aedes that transmits dengue and chikungunya viruses. (Researchers say Aedes aegypti is the main transmitter of the Zika virus, but there are other types of mosquitoes may be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For most people, the Zika infection is not a big deal. The problem is that areas affected by the Zika outbreak are seeing an unusual rise in some serious conditions, and evidence points to the virus as the cause. Dozens of other Zika cases have surfaced the United States, but has involved people who became infected with the mosquito born virus while traveling to Zika affect countries. (Fox News, 2016) In 1947, the Zika virus was first identified in a monkey that was being used to monitor the presence of yellow fever virus in the Zika Forest of Uganda. A year later, the virus was also found in the mosquito species, Aedes africanus, that was caught on a tree platform in the same forest. In 1952, the first human case was detected in Uganda and United Republic of Tanzania in a study demonstrating the presence of neutralizing antibodies to Zika virus. The first outbreak of the disease outside of Africa and Asia was in 2007, on the island of Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia. Prior to the outbreak there were only 14 cases of human Zika virus that had been documented worldwide. The condition was characterized by rash, conjunctivitis, and arthralgia, and was initially thought to be dengue. (WHO, 2016) In the beginning of March 2015, Brazil notified WHO about an illness described as a skin rash that was appearing in northeastern states. • 42. The Purpose Of Fractional Distillation Discussion The purpose of this experiment is to identify two compounds from an unknown given liquid by separating them into three components using fractional distillation. Distillation is the act of heating and cooling liquids in order to obtain a pure sample. There are two main types of distillation: simple distillation and fractional distillation. Simple distillation is the most basic form of a distillation. This method is more helpful when the separation between a liquid and a solid needs to happen or between two liquids with boiling points that have a difference of about 50°C or higher. Fractional distillation is similar to simple distillation; however, it is used to separate two liquids with similar boiling points. Fractional distillation works by first heating up the solution of the two liquids. Once the solution begins to boil, the unknown compound that has a lower boiling point will evaporate and rise into a distillation apparatus. The newly formed gas will travel through the apparatus until it is cooled down, at which point the gas will not be able to maintain the energy needed for this specific phase, and will begin to condense back into a liquid. The same process will occur with the second liquid, the only difference being that it needed a higher temperature in order to transform into a gas. The two new liquids will each have a higher percentage of the unknown compound, thus making them have a higher purity rate. The second technique that will be used to identify ... Immigrant Ancestors What Jessica s discovers about her German American immigrant ancestors is relevant to her growth as a teacher and a person, they expand her one sided view on being white, and being a teacher to Mexican American students. As Jessica became more comfortable with her ancestors she became to discuss them more in social aspects, I was just struck by how easy it was for him to get so many acres from the government back then. Well it probably wasn t easy, she stammered. I mean, he had to came all the way from Germany, [...] It was easier for him than it was for my people, Vic said earnestly, unfazed by Jessica s sudden discomfort, without even going into a comparison of how your people and my people got across the Atlantic. An example of verbal irony from the movie is when Kevin says Goodnight Kevin afterhis mom says it to him. This menas that Kevin wasnt really telling himself goodnight he was mocking his mom. The movie Home Alone and the book Ransom of Red Cheif both have situational irony in them. One example from the text is Sam and Bill had to pay Mr. Dorset to take Red Cheif back. This illustrates situational irony becuase Sam and Bill wanted money from Mr. Dorset but instead paid Mr. Dorset. In the movie one example of situational irony is when Kevin goes to the grociery store and buys food, laundry detergent, etc. This shows situational irony because a little wouldnt usually go to a store by themselves. Both the movie and the book have dramatic irony in them. The book Ransom of Red Cheif has dramatic irony in it. One example of dramatic irony is when Bill told Sam that Red Cheif was gone but we know that he was right behind him. This shows dramatic irony becuase we know a secret that Sam didnt. • 45. C. Hildren s Literature C hildren s literature is universally known for its wide range of works, including acknowledged classics of world literature, picture books and easy to read stories written expressly for children, in addition to its many fairy tales, lullabies, fables, folk songs, and other primarily orally transmitted materials (Encyclopedia of Literature 237). In this encyclopedic denotation, we fail to see the presence of realistic fiction, wherein everyday events, particularized settings, and characters from all ranks on life are portrayed (Segel 417). Most people hold firm to the belief that children s literature is only limited to hope and happy endings, when it is truly unbounded and free to be expressed in whatsoever way is possible. Moreover, in recent debates discussing realism or mimesis in children s literature and its ongoing aim to reflect more accurately the random and inclusive nature of actual events and the complex individuality of actual people (Segel 417), the problematic issue that continues to arise is whether realistic fiction is too realistic for the children it is ostensibly written for. Two books that are in question specifically at the moment are Kimberly Willis Holt s My Louisiana Sky and Rita Williams Garcia s One Crazy Summer. In both narratives, authors Holt and Williams Garcia take their implied audiences (children) on a journey through explicit subject matter foreign and forbidden in the fruitful and fantastical garden of conventional children s ... • 46. The Party s Manipulation In Oceania 8. The Party is almost in complete control over the citizens in Oceania because of all of the psychological manipulation that they have done to them. The Party has basically turned the people in Oceania into robots that aren t allowed to think for themselves and do the things that they feel is right because the Party has manipulated them into thinking a certain way. One way that the Party psychologically manipulates the people is by overworking them, because when people are overworked they are not able to think as well as they would when they were rested so it is easier to manipulate them at their stage of weakness. For example this happened during Hate Week when all most of the people in Oceania were overworked because of the change from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The difference between Julia and Winston in terms of their resistance is that Julia is more educated about the rebellion and that she has more experience with it. Julia is frustrated with the Party and she wants to do something about it but she first learns all that she can about the Party to learn how to defeat it, Winston on the other hand is just frustrated and wants to destroy the Party he does not really think about the details that are involved. Winston is also very unhappy and angry in the novel but he is not able to pinpoint why he is very unhappy and angry, he knows that he is because of the Party but he does not know what aspects f the Party are making him feel this way. On the other hand Julia knows what is wrong with the Party and she actually analyzes why the Party does the things that it does and how the Party is helping itself out by doing these things. For example, in the novel Julia is able to think about things like why the Party took away love and passion and her reasoning is that maybe when they take away love and passion they can channel that into a massive love for the Party. Julia is also very skilled at be undercover, she knows how to work the system and not get caught, but Winston does not understand this. Winston is not as sneaky as Julia and wants to involve other people in his rebellion before he knows that he can trust them whereas Julia takes time so she knows that it s safe. Even though their two paths of resistance are different when they are paired together they make a pretty strong team. Because Julia is so knowledgeable she is able to help Winston with his rebellious ideas so that he will not get caught and Winston is able to help Julia be more rebellious in different ways with his young mind of resistance. • 47. Tax Fraud Introduction This paper will discuss the topic of tax fraud. We will begin by introducing the basic concepts of tax fraud. Secondly, this paper will also delve into some of the laws that have been passed as punishment for those parties that decide to commit tax fraud. We will also highlight some of the more current examples of tax fraud that have been committed and the details that lead to the perpetrators being caught. Lastly we will discuss the role that criminal investigators have in the realm of tax fraud. Tax fraud can be stated simply as: willfully supplying fraudulent information on tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Current Fraud Schemes There have been many famous tax fraud cases over the years. The ability of individuals to consistently find ingeniously creative ways of committing tax fraud, especially with the magnitude of rules and regulations concerning tax, is astounding. Every year there are thousands of instances of tax fraud schemes taking place, accounting for billions of dollars of lost revenues for the IRS. In 2011 alone, the IRS reported roughly 2 million potentially fraudulent tax returns out of over 145 million tax returns filed.(htt) In addition to highly sophisticated tax fraud schemes, sometimes very simple schemes are able to exist without interference. Of the approximately 2 million fraudulent tax returns filed in 2011, identity theft accounted for about 450,000. (htt) In Tampa, FL for instance, identity theft for the purpose of filing fraudulent tax returns has become more and more prevalent. (htt1) Law enforcement bears witness to thousands of people annually in possession of ledgers, tax filings, lists of SSN s and personal information, and refund debit cards. However, law states that it is not illegal to simply possess this information, only to use it. Lack of ascertainable proof has forced the police department to allow hundreds of perpetrators go free, creating a very frustrating situation for everyone involved. Similarly, there has been a recent surge in the identity theft of Puerto Rican citizens information. Since Puerto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Learning Disabilities Disadvantages In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk an American educator and psychologist, founded the term known as learning disabilities. This came about after he had visited with a few groups of parents a few times to discuss why these parents children seem to have small amounts of success even when they are able to understand and comprehend just like other children. As a result of these meetings the Learning Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Then later in the mid 1970 s the Education for All Handicapped Children Act was put into law which formally identified the concept of learning disabilities (Pullen, 25). After these things were put in place, there was over 10 different descriptions of what learning disabilities can be based off of. For this concept, it will be known as the following description. Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and not their understanding based on the results from tests. It is known that around 4 to 5 percent of adolescents are considered to have LD. There are a few reasons why LD can occur. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with many academic areas especially in reading. They also have difficulties with interacting with others, expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of others. Last, is that adolescents with LD have a high chance of dropout rates ... The area to be studied is the infrared region, which is made up of gamma, X, and UV rays. We want to be able to identify spectra s to their complementary structures. The background of this experiment particularly deals with the study of compound structure determination, and traits. We must be aware of the functional groups that occur in the compounds in order to correctly assess accurate results. Molecular vibrations affect the frequency of the stretch or bend, and the frequency of the bond is determined by 3 types of bonds between atoms. Infrared absorptions are ... It was very easy to make an error because of the high possibility that we had overlapping frequencies, or because two unknowns could be very similar. If we were to make an error in distinguishing an unknown, this would automatically cause us to have 2 or more incorrect Unknowns being identified.
