Childhood Obesity Epidemic, By The Encyclopedia Of Science
For the past few decades, the dire situation of obesity in America has gotten worse and is now
affecting new generations of young Americans. Every day the poor eating and physical choices
that children make can lead them to a life with diabetes, heart disease, and cancers. The unhealthy
lifestyle that children have is influenced by their parents and the society that surrounds them. This
unprecedented surge of poor lifestyle choices has lead to an epidemic that young children are now
facing. Ultimately, the health of young children is at stake. Being obese is not just being
overweight, but being overweight at an unhealthy level. The way to classify someone as
overweight is by using their body mass index, better known as BMI. If someone has... Show more

As stated in the Encyclopedia of Science s article, obesity is affecting any child from any
ethnicity or race, age, economic backing, or region. Hispanic children, African American
children, native American children, and any other children with bad quality eating habits,
especially in the south, are at an exceptionally higher risk. The southern part of America is
known for their comfort food, which is extremely fattening, and is the reason why children
living in the south have an exceptionally higher chance of becoming obese. In the African
American communities, as well as the Hispanic communities, nearly 40% of the children are
overweight or obese. Children who are at a lower economic standing may have a higher chance
of developing obesity, but that doesn t mean wealthier children are immune. The site, Let s
Move states that without solving this issue, 1/3 of all children born after 2000 will suffer from
diabetes at one point in their lives. Statistics from the Encyclopedia of Life Science show that
this number is still growing and is being compared to the 7% of obese children and 5% obese
teens in the 1980 s, to show the changes needed to be done in society. More action, now more
than ever, needs to be taken against obesity. Obese children risk developing cardiovascular
problems, cancers and as well as

Feudalism In Europe During The Middle Ages
Feudalism was a political and economic system and culture in Europe during the Middle Ages
(Sheldon) In 911 AD, Charles the simple, king of France, granted Rollo, head of a Viking army, a
part of French territory known as Northmen s Land or Normandy. Rollo then swore a pledge of
loyalty to the king ( Feudalismin Europe 360). 850 to 950 AD was the worst time of invader s
attacks. Charles and Rollo made similar agreements to make system of government called
feudalism. It was also based on rights, obligation, landholding and protective alliances (
Feudalism in Europe 360). A lord, which is also a landowner, granted other people land called a
fief in return of military protection or other services ( Feudalism in Europe 360). The protection

The Pearl Imagery
David Fauber Humanities 7 AB Inside the gate of imagery, merchants try to exploit the reader s

imagery, merchants try to exploit the reader s thoughts, and surprise the reader with events the
audience did not expect. The merchants are the authors who created the gate of imagery and all
inside the castle of the book. What a castle needs to not be destroyed, are walls, and imagery is
the bricks of the wall and the gate that keep a book good. Imagery defends the castle because
imagery is what paints a mental picture and without that mental picture, it would be as boring as

At this time, Kino has a son named Coyotito who had previously been stung by a scorpion. The
sting swelled and while Kino was searching for a pearl to pay the doctor, Kino s wife, Juana,

author describes that , the ritual consists of inserting a small bundle of hog hairs into the mouth,

Capital Punishment And Capital Involvement
Capital punishment is an individual punishment to death for committing a crime. The history of
capital punishment fluctuates worldwide, between different governments and beliefs. The current
issue of capital punishment is taking lives without having a reliable reason to take them to the death
penalty. One large and main issue is that capital punishmentbreaches, or breaks two essential human
rights, which are the rights to life, and rights to living free of torture. This is a huge issue because
an individual should not be able to surpass any conditions when the operations of the executions go
against human rights. Another opposition of capital punishment is that many countries are sided
with the penalties, however, the citizens of the country may think differently dependant on their
religions and beliefs. The opposition between the government and the population in the country is
another large issue because the diverse opinion only makes matters worse. Though many countries
remain to argue that the punishments are beneficial, terminating the legal penalty would save
thousands of lives. Discontinuing the penalties would benefit the whole world by cutting the large
amount of taxes just for individual deaths, and the new adjustment would save lives from false
reasons, and misunderstandings.
UN Involvement: The main participant into capital punishment is the OHCHR or the Office of the
High Commissioner for Human Rights. The committee is helping with the global issue by having

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Essay
In this day and age, nearly everyone has heard the term Sleep Apnea in one place or another,
whether it was on the news, from a friend or relative, or perhaps from their very own physician.
What is sleep apnea? Who is at risk for developing sleep apnea? Are there specific signs or
symptoms to look for? How is sleep apneadiagnosed? Can it be treated? What additional health
problems can be caused if the disorder is untreated? All of these are vital questions. Most people
have encountered sleep apnea, but many do not know the answers to these important questions,
and knowing these answers may help save their own life or the life of a loved one. Sleep apnea

Individuals of Black, Hispanic, or Pacific Island nationality as well as those over age 65 are also
at increased risk. Obstructive Sleep Apnea can be very difficult to identify without help from
another individual. Even though those who suffer from the disorder will notice differences in
their sleep patterns, or the lack of ability to sleep, the development of OSA is a gradual process,
and many of the signs are only displayed when the individual is asleep. The signs and symptoms
indicative of OSA include daytime somnolence and fatigue, loud snoring, falling asleep during
normal daily activities, being awakened by shortness of breath and or gasping, insomnia, frequent
dry mouth or sore throat upon awakening, morning headaches, and sleep walking. Others around
the individual may observe the actual periods of breathing cessation or talking while sleeping.
Sleep apnea causes many additional health problems. Some of the physical problems it can cause
are hypertension, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and edema (swelling) of the
limbs, trunk, and face, which can be severe to the point that fluid will escape through the skin. The
health issues that are caused by sleep apnea are not limited to the physical, but also include
psychological problems, such as forgetfulness, depression, impaired cognition, and shortened
attention. Research has demonstrated that people diagnosed with sleep apnea frequently

The Six Dimensions of Wellness
Physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, spiritual, and environmental wellness are all
considered the six dimensions of wellness with occupational wellness being the possible seventh.
But what are these exactly? And how do they apply to me and my health and wellness? The first
of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body s overall wellness. This includes
the absence of illness and disease and your body s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy
choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis
for check ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have
achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venus... Show more content on

Two people I believe have developed interpersonal wellness are Oprah, and, on a personal note, my
sister. The fifth dimension is spiritual wellness. The spiritual wellness of a person has to do with
their own personal beliefs. A person doesn t have to believe in any one God, they just have to
believe. To practice spiritual wellness is to have a sense of belonging to something greater than
yourself and to have joy, compassion and, fulfillment in your beliefs. Examples of this dimension
would be the Pope, and the Dalai Lama. The last of the six dimensions is environmental wellness.
By definition environmental wellness means the livability of one s surroundings. A few steps
we can take to improve our environmental wellness are reducing waste and pollution by
recycling or carpooling when ever possible, and keeping your surroundings clean and free of
hazards. Two people I admire for their concern for our environmental wellness are Al Gore and
Cameron Diaz. The seventh dimension (as some experts say) is occupational wellness. This
refers to the level of happiness you gain through your job. Career experts say that setting career
goals that reflect your personal values is the way to achieve occupational wellness. Personally, I
believe as long as you enjoy your work, the people you work with and have the opportunity to
learn and grow with your job you can find occupational wellness. Two people I believe have found
occupational wellness are

Descriptive Experience Essay
A bright array of lights dotted the dark landscape beneath the plane where I sat It was late,
around midnight, and the day had stretched beyond measure beginning with customs in the
Atlanta airport. About 1:30 a.m. we landed in the airport at San Jose International Airport. I was
exhausted but the beauty of the landscape would be only a shimmer of what was to come. The
second I stepped off of the plane I felt anxious and hot, very hot. This being my first time outside
of the United States was a completely new experience and everything was foreign to me. After
we retrieved our bags from the baggage claim we headed out and were promptly picked up by a bus
which carried us out of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica through mountains and jungle and
delivered us to our cabins where we would be staying for the week. After a combined sixteen hours
of travel we were here. As we stood on top of what seemed to me to be a mountain overlooking the
city I was taken aback I have never seen anything like it. It was amazing. The next morning we
woke up as early as 5:00 a.m. to get ready for what was to be a long day. Each morning we would
travel to a church where we would hold a worship service and eat breakfast, after each breakfast
and worship service we would go off to our respective places where we would work with a
construction team building a basecamp for the ministry we were helping or we would go out and
minister at the schools in the local area. We spent most of the first day

Privatization, the Best Option for Social Security Reform...
Many are skeptical about the future of Social Security and are worried they will not receive the
full pay out of benefits in the future. In the following pages I will state the reasons why Social
Security is in need of reform, describe privatization and the pros and cons, and why privatization is
the best option for Social Securityreform. Current problems with the Social Security fund exist,
and are the reasons why Social Security is in the need of reform. According to Forbes Magazine,
the fund is expected to run out by 2033 (Teal 2013). At this point, money will still be coming in,
but will not pay out the full benefits to recipients. The worker to retiree ratio is continuously
declining, being approximately three workers to every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This started the idea of having ownership over a private account that was personally controlled.
Account holders were directly receiving the money they invested in Social Security, and have the
option to spend the money as they see fit. Many pros and cons arise with this option of Social
Security reform. With other options the government takes the risk, but with privatization it is a
personal risk. When account holders reach retirement they are able to withdraw from the account
and use the money as they see fit. Government does not control the amount or what the account
holders use the money for, leaving recipients with the choice to spend as much of the money as
they wish and as quickly as they want. With no control over the usage of savings, this defeats the
purpose of Social Security as a safety net . The biggest downfall to this reform is the transition
period. Not only would the transition be a high cost, but those that are closest to retirement could be
left with smaller savings in their private account. If young workers create private accounts then they
are not supporting current retirees, and they are not receiving what they should be (Mitchell 2011).
Another concern is that not all recipients will end up with a fair amount of earnings in their
account. Such

Motherhood Is A Major Theme Portrayed By Peter Pan
The idea of motherhood is a major theme portrayed in this novel. Motherhood is having a child
of your on and raising tht child to become the best they can be. Being there to support and love
them when ever they need you to. J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a children s story about a boy who
never wants to grow up and become an adult. Although the concept of having a motheris symbolized
throughout Peter Pan, it is motherhood itself that prevents Peter Pan and others from maturing into
responsible adulthood. Peter Pan wants a mother, but at the same time Peter does not trust mothers
because he believes that his birth mother betrayed him. Peter also believes that mothers turn
children into adults. The novel s opening scene is in the nursery of the Darling house, and it also
ends in the nursery. The nursery is very important for the Darling family. It is where John, Wendy
and Michael sleep, and where they are taken care of by Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling and also
by their dog called Nana. Nana is portrayed as a maid in the novel because the Darlings could not
afford to pay a human to work for them. The fact that J.M. Barrie decides on the nursery for being
the location for both the beginning and the end of the novel is symbolic of the importance of
family life and maternal care in the novel Peter Pan. After the Darling children return back home
from their adventures in Neverland, they come back to the nursery to be taken care of again by
their mother and father. Wendy, which

The Christian Calendar
The festivals dotting the Christian Calendar are marked by general out pourings of devotion,
mourning and joy according to the religious significance of these days. Some common festivals
celebrated by Christians are the days commemorating the major Christian events like Christmas for
the birth of Jesus Christ and Easter for his martyrdom and resurrection. Other popular events usually
mark the birth or the feast days of famous Saints. These occasions are celebrated with great
enthusiasm; the people observe the time worn customs and traditions associated with each festival,

Christmas primarily celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the father of the Christian religion. The
word Christmas comes from the Old English word Cristes Maesse or Christ s Mass. However, the
celebrations and customs related to the day have evolved over the years.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ, who was believed to be the saviour of mankind.
Christmas has always been one of the favourite times of the year for everyone through out the
world. The magical events of Christmas are believed to hold each and everyone s heart with joy
and freshness. These magical events have been recreated in the many traditions followed during
Christmas. The Christmas tree, the star, Santa Claus and the ginger bread man are some traditions
that all combine to form the spirit of Christmas.
The traditions of Christmas have been aggregated from over half a dozen cultures and accumulated
over the centuries. An in depth look in into its tradition, and one is moved with all the sentiments,
symbols and meaning associated with Christmas. All of which combine to give a touch of
liveliness and harmony to the season of celebrations. However, no matter which part of the world

In Genesis 6:2 and 4, it tells of the beginning of Noah and The Flood when it mentions of the sons
of Elohim, or the Nephilim, this time taking human women as wives. Nephilim describes those
whose fathers were gods and mothers were human. To an immortal man, El explains that he is the
head of a Divine Council in Ezekiel 28:2. Another name describing El is Elyon Most High as

The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality Essay...
The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality There is much debate in sociology about
whether class is still important. Many argue that class is no longer important as an individual s
identity and life chances are based more status and cultural factors such as lifestyle, values,
intelligence, education and the like, the post modernists state that class has ceased to be the prime
determinant of identity and suggest that societies are now organised around consumption rather
than production, consequently people now identify themselves in terms of what they consume
rather than in terms of social class position. Class identity has therefore fragmented into numerous

Davis and More state that this is fair as everyone finds their place in a society which offers
different levels of rewards, thus inequality is legitimate. They state that since there is value
consensus on the relative merit of certain occupations and the salaries they command, inequality
does not cause conflict, but is seen as legitimate by all and is an accepted part of society. Talcott
Parsons agreed with this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for
everyone. The strength of this theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is
unequally distributed. However, this theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about
the relative merit of certain occupations, when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there
are no structural barriers in society to those who have talent, for example, race or gender. Although
this meritocratic approach has been developed more recently by the new right , with sociologists
such as Saunders arguing that inequality is a necessary push for economic growth which in turn
increases living standards, it has also been criticised by those such as Will Hutton who argued that
inequality has led to poorer economic performance and not

The Humor of Flannery O Connor
Webster s online dictionary defines humor as a quality that appeals to a sense of the ludicrous
(laughable and/or ridiculous) or incongruous. Incongruity is the very essence of irony. More
specifically, irony is incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the expected
result. FlanneryO Connor s works are masterpieces in the art of literary irony, the laughable and
ridiculous. The incongruous situations, ridiculous characters, and feelings of superiority that O
Connor creates make up her shocking and extremely effective, if not disturbing, humor. I say
disturbing because O Connor s humor, along with humor in general, most often contains the tragic.
O Connor has been quoted as saying, The comic and the terrible... Show more content on

The narrator only compounds the laughable idea that these women are up to par with the average
reader after all, O Connor was a well educated woman, writing for the literate when he/she notes
Mrs. Hopewell s charitable pride of Mrs. Freeman: Mrs. Hopewell liked to tell people [...] that
Mrs. Freeman was a lady and that she was never ashamed to take her anywhere (Diyanni 172).
The reader is inclined to laugh even harder at this, a terrible irony, after having already established
both ladies as simple, good country people. Of course, most of the true irony or humor found in O
Connor s stories is not found in the immediate and obvious. If we were to consider only Mrs.
Hopewell and Mrs. Freeman in the context in which they are presented to us in the beginning of the
story, then we would have to conclude that O Connor is in fact making fun of the faithful.
Fortunately, she is a much better writer with a much deeper intent than that; as the story develops,
so does the integrity of the simple people. This eventual increase in status is something unexpected,
especially since O Connor supplies the reader with a perfectly acceptable, intellectual character with
which to relate: Joy, or more fittingly, Hulga.
In meeting Hulga, O Connor s humor starts to get slightly more complicated. This is where she
really begins to intermingle the tragic with the comic, and now her

Financial statements are used by company owners to evaluate the how the company is doing, also
by investors for making decisions about when to invest or when to sell their shares, by lenders or
banks in order to make decisions about credit worthiness of the company. Financial statements can
be use effectively when the user understands the roles of the financial statements preparer and the

management to make substantial accounting estimates and decisions, also in order to choose from

role is different from the role of the management; the auditor is responsible for expressing an
opinion on whether management has fairly presented the information in the financial statements.
During an audit, an independent qualified auditor evaluates the financial statements. During the
audit, the auditor collects evidence to obtain reasonable assurance that the amounts and disclosures
in the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An auditor is also responsible to check
whether audit evidence increases doubt about the ability of the client to continue as a going concern

Mechanism Of Natural Selection
On this slide we have a more fine approach to the natural selection and its mechanism.
On the left we have a cartoon in which Darwin explains how the natural selection works to a
hostile alien who claims that he would take the Earth in virtue of the survival of the fittest
(Spencer, 1864). This catchphrase was coined by sociologist and biologist Herbert Spencer and
actually was used by Darwin later, but always in the context of the reproductive success (Darwin,
1868). Actually in the long term the natural selection equals to the reproductive success. If an
individual is the strongest but it cannot leave descendants, his fitness will be 0.
So, in the end, what matters for natural selection is the number of descendants in the long term. If

Feudalism In The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales was written during a time of societal change, away
from the stability of feudalism and towards an individualistic, mercantile economy. Feudalism
consisted of a static, rural economy where every member had a duty to serve those above them.
They valued the greater good and were not focused on gaining economically for their own
personal benefit. An era of change, however, began as events such as the Crusades opened up
trading opportunities which would eventually cause a shift in England, as the economy went
from being land based to money based. A mercantile class was on the rise as well as capitalism.
People were no longer driven to work by a sense of personal duty for the common good, but

increased, as church members were affected negatively by this changing economy. Many were
driven by greed as well and took on immoral approaches towards their church positions. Vows and
church teachings were disregarded as indulgences and materialism became the main focus of many

issues such as the changing economy and corruption of the church in order to expose and criticize
the wrongdoings and values of his shifting society caused by the end of feudalism during this time.

Research Paper On Queen Victoria
he Victorian Era is the era in which Queen Victoria ruled England. During this time period,
Queen Victoria set many regulations, demands and expectations in regards to women fashion
and lifestyle. Queen Victoria is recognized for her keen and unmistakable profile; as well as her
seventy years of kinship in England and her actions and demands amongst women of that time
period and as well as in that society. She established strict, personal morals for women in that era
and explicit demands of the way women were supposed to dress, whether it was inside or
outside, they were expected to dress in a certain way. In the video that was shown based on
Queen Victoria and her outlook on women, it was said that women spent most of their time
changing clothes. In Queen Victoria s point of view, women could only be considered as a
proper lady only if they followed the morals and code of etiquette. This idea was proposed by the
Queen herself, but after a while it began to disintegrate due to the different ideas that were
publicized in magazines. Over time, women were becoming suffragists. They were influenced by
the ideas that were posted in magazines as to what the ideal woman was and they began to protest
for their rights and for equality. In the quote that was said by her, she says, Feminists ought to get a

Rome in The Age of Augustus
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, which was used in the Eastern provinces.
Imperium suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the
first of many titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at
the Battle of Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being
honoured, and that the power he possessed at the time should remain his. Therefore this was the
first factor that initiated the rise of Octavian.

(Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)The Senate s reaction to Octavian s transfer of power to
them was to beseech Octavian to reverse his decision. After an initial refusal, Octavian accepted
their offers, which left him in a much more powerful place than before. There were two main
elements to Octavian s new position; these were the office of Proconsul and Consul. Proconsul
was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and
Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. These
areas of the empire were in need of the most defence; therefore, the majority of the Roman army
was stationed there. Octavian s control over these regions now extended to the control of a large
section of the Roman army. A Consul was elected annually and had authority over Rome and Italy.
There were several provinces belonging to the Roman people, and Octavian used his position as
Consul to claim power over the proconsuls of such provinces. He also now had considerable
influence over the Senate and the assembly of Roman citizens. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past)

The Household Circle Of India
1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may
be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives
like grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living
separately. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it
is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the
French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with
those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire
mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen
in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet
as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the
aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of
the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate
to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain
from an involvement of morally disliked activities. Similarly, as mentioned on page 60 of the book

Space Force Position Paper
POSITION PAPER ON SEPARATE AIR AND SPACE FORCES 1. This position paper will
defend separating the air and space forces into different branches of the armed services. The first
main point will discuss opinions for separating the forces. The second main point will cover
valid arguments against the separation of forces. The third main point will further advocate for
a separate space force. 2. The most basic reason for establishing a separate space force is the
different terrain.1 We look to the Navy to be experts in the sea and the Army on the ground.2
We look to the Air Force as experts in air dominance and supremacy, not space dominance or
space power.3 Space is an afterthought for most of our leaders due to their extensive flying
backgrounds and lack of space warfare knowledge, at no fault of their own.4 It is unlikely that we
will see a space officer sitting in the Chief of Staff role if the forces remain under one command
due to the large role that air power plays over space power.5 The space terrain deserves a seat at the
table with land, air and sea.6 The only way to make this happen is to establish a separate United
States Space Force.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arguments against establishing a separate space force are becoming less relevant on a daily
basis as the demand and dependence on space capabilities grow. Many leaders view space as a
seamless domain to air, while this may hold some truth, consider the other branches also operate in
the air domain, meaning one domain does not solely belong to one branch of service.7 These
shared environments require joint coordination from all parties.8 Another common argument is the
costs associated with reorganizing efforts.9 These costs would appear steep in the beginning,
however giving the space force a separate budget and command would allow for efficiency and
effectiveness to grow over time.10 History has proven this with the separation of the Air Force

After 6 months of flying, I was ready for the check ride. I ve been ready since before Christmas,
having completed my training on the 23rd. I scheduled my check ride on the 28th. That day was
quite interesting. I went to the flight school to check everything over with Josh and make sure I
was ready. Then we called the examiner to schedule the check ride. It was about 5pm, and Josh
made the call, which was very fortunate for me as it interrupted the examiner s dinner. He said to
have me to call him later and we would get things squared away.

I was planning the flight to Murfreesboro, KMBT. It was an easy enough flight to plan
considering I had already done a flight out that way. I even managed to include a little VOR
navigation since the Hinch Mountain VOR is along the way. Even though it has been out of
service a lot, I felt it couldn t hurt to include it. I did all the requisite calculations since the
examiner had given me mock weather. I also planned on waiting until the night before to check the
real weather and do real calculations.
In the mean time, I did the paperwork and hammered at the little oral exam prep book I had
purchased. By Wednesday, I had filled out the IACRA paper work about four times; it is a good
idea in theory, but leaves a little to be desired in practice. After ironing out all the details, I was
ready to go. Unfortunately, I hadn t considered that the flight school would close on New Years
Day which led to a bit of a shock when I got the email about the closure. I immediately called to
make sure I was still good to go. As it turns out, the examiner has a key so it wasn t a problem

If there is something that cannot be disputed by any single individual is the prevalence of

exist and how those who either have them or know people that do, deal with them. Having
disabilities in the past used to come with much negativity and discrimination for people generally

availability of literature on the matter, more people have started to become aware and realize that
handicaps shouldn t be viewed in this demeaning manner, in turn, they are becoming more

Conquest And The Start Of Colonialism
Conquest In the era preceding the age of conquest and the start of colonialism around the late
1400s was a dark time in Europe both socially and economically. Under the feudalist system,
there was strict social classes which made upward mobility nearly impossible, even for those born
into lower level nobility. Morale was also waning as pestilence and war persisted. The bubonic
plague in the mid 1300s ravaged Europeand by some estimates, cut the population by half. France
and England fought in the Hundred Years War that quite literally meant that the region was in a
state of war for a century, between 1337 to 1453. Additionally, one of the last vestiges of the
Christian Eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople, fell to the Muslim Ottomans in 1453. This
event not only hurt western esteem, but also cut off the major trade route from Europe to Asia.
All of this meant that Europe, both the courts and the Church were seeking a way to increase
prestige and wealth. Conquest was the response, by allowing nations to find new land to possess,
and new resources to exploit, and especially new enemies to defeat. The period in the late 1400s
is sometimes euphemistically called, The Age of Exploration, connoting ideas of discovery,
knowledge building, and awe. In Amerigo Vespucci s (1454 1512) first letter to Lorenzo Di
Pierfrancesco De Medici, Vespucci spends more than half the letter describing the land of the
Americas, often commenting on flora and fauna as a marvel (Vespucci,

Child Throwing
Introduction
Throwing is probably the most common of the ballistic skills yet the most difficult to assess. As a
parent when teaching the child to throw, it is important to begin at a level that the child can
achieve and then slowly increase the level of difficulty, so that the child is stretched slightly
(taking steps backwards, or throwing for longer distance), each time but does not lose confidence in
achieving the task. Also, make sure while each step is completed give the child lots and lots of
praise and encouragement. With giving encouragement as a parent, the child looks up to you to give
them instruction therefore if the child does a skill correctly keep their confidence up in order for
them to move on to the next step in throwing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without learning the basic steps, it would be difficult to master the task. But with gender and
skill level varying in each child, being patient and boosting their confidence when they do it
correctly is equally important as correctly them when they make a mistake. What we don t see in
young adults as we do in children is fear. Many children are afraid to try new things. Throwing
the correct way is very important as a child because of the danger of overuse injuries rising all
over the world. Since overhead throwing is not a natural motion of the shoulder, it does cause
strain on the muscles. As a child, I couldn t get enough of sports, so for me to gain this kind of
knowledge through this class is interesting because I had no idea that breaking down the steps or
videotaping the action can breakdown the skill to see what the child is doing wrong in the motion.

The Importance Of Technology Over Time
Over time the viewpoints regarding technology and the importance of it changes depending on the
different situations of the time. The three texts Feed by M.T Anderson, The Time Machine by H.G

times when they discuss technology. In the novel Feed, the use of a machine that gives access to
the internet and retrieves information for the user which is implanted in a person, a feed, being

similar negative view of technology being a cause for the complacency of society because of the

during the time As We May Think was written a significant amount of tension between the world
was present, toward the tail of World War I. On the contrary both Feed and The Time Machine

Simply Good News Chapter Summary
N. T. Wright is a scholar, theologian and retired bishop who has written a number books related to
the study of Christianity. In writing Simply Good News, Wright is hoping to bring awareness to
the fact that Christians have forsaken seeing the Christian faith as good news. He explains that the
idea that the gospel is good news is news in itself.
Through this book, Wright challenges many beliefs and understandings of the Christian faith. He
encourages the reader to rethink what the good news is. Instead of seeing Christianity as advice to
be taken, it should be viewed as news. Furthermore, Wright explains how the Church has distorted
the understanding of the good news. The good news presented to us in the Bible is not a set of
rules to live by, the good news is not an event that took place. The good news is so much more
than any of that. Accepting the good news is not optional. Wright also discusses how Jesuswas
much different than any other teacher. The claims Jesus made were to transform the world. Wright
ends the book by telling Christians how they should pray and not just live out the good news, but
become the good news. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He supports this by offering several examples of where Christians have neglected the true meaning
of the gospel. In chapter 3, Wright explains that, the good news is that the one true God has now
taken charge of the world, in and through Jesus and his death and resurrection (Wright, 55.) Wright
goes on to explain that the good news has happened and will happen. Every single human has the
opportunity to be transformed by the good news (Wright, 55.) In other words, the gospel is not
solely about what happened many years ago, but it is about how the event that happened over two
thousand years ago can still affect us

Essay on Youth Culture
Essay on Youth Culture
The 60 s and 70 s saw the rise of youth culture. Youth culture can be seen as a particular pattern of
beliefs, values, symbols and activities that a group of young people are seen to share.
Along with the rise of youth culture came the theories developed on it. The theories developed in
the 60 s were mainly functionalism. Functionalists believe that society or a social structure is like a
biological structure and that all social institutions function for the survival of society. As social
structures change by becoming more complex, social institutions change by becoming more
specialised. Functionalists, therefore, believe youth culture has a social function; they see it as
young people solving there shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalists like Eisenstadt explain social institutions in terms of social problems and cultural
solutions. The youth problem lies in young peoples marginal status, youth culture eases the
resulting anxieties and uncertainties. His argument is that in meeting young peoples needs, youth
culture has the general function of smoothing the transition from child to adult. He believes that the
most important function for its members was emotional and providing young people with a set of
relationships, (peer groups.) The most important point for Eisenstadt is not that some young people
become deviants but that even the most deviant of youths become normal adults. He saw youth
culture not as a political rebellion but as an essential problem solving social function.
Eisenstadts argument is a general argument. It refers to the transition that faces all young people
in industrial society but not all young people are the same. He didn t take into account that
growing up middle class is different to growing up working class and that growing up male is
different to growing up female. Also, he was explaining youth culture in a time of relative affluence
and optimism, growing up was not particularly problematic in the 1950 s.
In the 1970 s the strongly Marxist influenced CCCS related class to youth subcultures. They argued
that youth styles were a reflection of the economic system and its related class relations. They
claimed that

The Benefits Of Assisted Living
Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today
these facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only
two choices for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home.
Many seniors who couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree
independent and able bodied did not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities;
creating a need for different types of senior living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle
for seniors who wanted to age independently. Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to
specific populations creating specialties with differing levels of care. With the U.S. population
aging there is not only an increase in number of senior facilities but also their characteristics. As
a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964 children comprised approximately one third of the
U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million
people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but this number is projected to more than
double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Coupled with the number of
baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now living longer. In 1970 the average
age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). However it

How Does Emerson Characterize The Scholar
Emerson elaborates upon the necessity of the scholar by describing his pivotal role in society. He
first describes the responsibilities of the scholar as to cheer, to raise, and to guide men by showing
them facts amid appearances. The description introduces the idea that the world brims with
illusions intended to prey upon the weakness of the common man, and that the scholar must help
him navigate this labyrinth of truths and inaccuracies. Furthermore, Emerson elucidates that the
scholar s responsibility encompasses interpreting the world around him by personifying Reason as
an entity that pronounces on the passing men and events of today, and tasking the scholar with

Rational Choice Theory Of Crime
Generally speaking, there is a strong need for theory when shaping criminal justice policies and
practices. As mentioned in this week s materials theories can assist with developing explanations
and/or ideas about criminal activity, such as, the factors that caused the offender to commit the
crime, how to prevent the offender and others from committing more crime, or the most effective
punishments. Without the presence of theories all policies and practices put into place would lack
verification of effectiveness and need (Blokar, 2015). In our readings, various theories on the
effectiveness of punishment were either verified or unsupported at some point in time over the past
three centuries. From my understanding of the reading Beccaria s belief that certainty is the most
important piece of punishment, even when compared to severity , (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014)

years, with the possibly of no probation, and once released has a 37% chance of re offense. With
chemical castration being required after a sex offender s second offense, the government, therefore,
would be aiding in the future elimination of repeat sex crimes. Chemical castration costs thousands
less than imprisonment. Thus, taxpayers would be taxed less than they would be in paying taxes
for sex offenders who are incarcerated multiple times. Under those circumstances, repeat offenders
are released into society with a high level of medical and government supervision; they are given
the chance to rehabilitate their lives, and ultimately not endanger others with their sexual desires.
In the United States, there are 747,000 register sex offenders. Only 33% are in correction facilities.
An estimated 24% of those serving time for rapeand 19% of those serving time for sexual assault
had been on probation or parole at the time of their repeat offenses. Offenders with a previous sex
offense conviction have a 37% re offense rate. Rapists repeat their offenses at rates up to 35%

Chemical Castration aids in the future elimination of repeat sex crimes. It does so by eliminating
the male sex drive, and with only a 2% chance of re offense, potentially creates a safer society for
citizens. Notably, chemical castration costs substantially less than repeat imprisonment on
taxpayers. Repeat sex offenders must undergo treatment before being released, and just like
probation, must check in with officials every month. It is safer to release a chemically castrated
offender than it is to release an offender with no treatment. It is

Improving Quality And Safety For Patient Safety
The Role of the Leader in Evaluating Data to Improve Quality and Safety
Patient safety is a growing concern among healthcare professionals and the public (Goh, Chan,
Kuziemsky, 2013). As professional nurses, it is our duty to demonstrate improved safety for our
patients, visitors and guests to the facilities in which we serve. It is also our duty to prevent
adverse events and to view unfortunate incidents as learning opportunities to achieve a holistic
view of patient care. By improving patient safety, we accept responsibility for more positive patient
outcomes and a successful hospital stay. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of
data evaluation and interpretation to improve patient quality and safety.

In reviewing the data set provided for this study, a large number of falls occurred between the
hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. This is the time that a phlebotomist typically enters the room for a
morning blood draw or the nurse wakes the patient for a vital sign check. The patients are still in a
daze, and it is possible after the clinical personnel leaves, the patient tries to climb out of bed
unattended, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015). Lee (2015), states You disturb them, wake them
up and they re groggy; then they try to get up and go to the restroom by themselves. They
overestimate their ability to function and walk, resulting in a fall (Stempniak, 2015).
In addition to the falls data, the Walden University case study (2015) reported One full time
employee (FTE) of nursing assistants was moved from the night shift to the evening shift (Data
Dashboard, 2015). This change in staff may contribute to the increased falls seen during the
overnight hours. An extra nursing assistant would be helpful as a variable rounder, someone to
help the nurses and other nursing assistants respond quickly if a patient s call bell is ringing or the
patient is in distress.
Our report shows an increase in fall risks from 7 am to 11 am daily. This time coincides with
patient care, where nursing staff may be attending to one individual patient, often

personal involvement with the suspect. I believe society has these laws in order to make sure
victims receive justice for their crimes as soon as possible. If anyone were to tamper with the
crime scene that could drastically impact whether a murder case is solved or not. I believe since
the woman later admitted to what she did wrong she is beginning to make the right decisions and
trying to make up for her mistake. I believe that the woman chose to act counternormatively

Space Race Pros And Cons
SOCIAL WHEELS AND SPACE RACES
When we talk about recent innovation, social change, industrial change, what pops into most of
our heads is space technology . Gps systems, wifi, the moon landing, and probes all fall into this
category. But how did all these interstellar wonders appear into our everyday life? What pushed
our civilization to expand out tech beyond the sky. The answer to that starts with politics. To be
more exact, a nazi v2 rocket project late in WW2. Although it wasn t a very effective weapon, it
brought the idea of a space technological evolution .The USSR and the US governments captured
the German science team after the war for their own projects. Both nations pooled money into this
new found area of advancement, resulting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The explorer was a huge step for the states, their first man made object in space. And what did
Russia do to maintain their technological dominance? Shortly after the American success, the
USSR launched the first man armed mission, and made Yuri Gagarin the first to bask in the
interstellar glory of outer space. And not soon after, the USSR buried the dagger even deeper
with a couple more Russians waving the red flag in outer space. The US barely catching up,
launched into space. The states can thank Kennedy for their first lead on Russia, as he announced
the goal of sending an American to the moon. As we all know now, NASAdelivered the Americans
their leading point when Neil Armstrong first stepped on the moon. From the point of view of
other countries, it would make much more sense if both superpowers worked together, instead of
childish symbolic projects. Not only were these experiments expensive, they were also quite
dangerous. As US and USSR relations got better, the space race slowly came to an end. That
officially happened when space stations from both countries docked, and astronauts from both ends
of the race shook hands and shared gifts. This iconic

Primary Heating Water Circuit At The Generators
Primary Cooling Water Circuit In The Generators :
The treated water used for cooling of the stator winding, phase connectors and bushings is
designated as primary water in order to distinguish it from the secondary coolant (raw water,
condensator etc.). The primary water is circulated in a closed circuit and dissipates the absorbed
heat to the secondary cooling in the primary water cooler. The pump is supplied with in primary
water cooler. The pump is supplied with in the primary water tank and delivers the water to the
generator via the following flow paths:
Flow path I :
Flow path I cools the stator winding. This flow path passes through water manifold on the exciter
end of the generator and from there to the stator bars via insulated bar is connected to the manifold
by a separate hose. Inside the bars the cooling water flows through hollow strands. At the turbine
end, the water is passed through the similar hoses to another water manifold and then return to the
primary water tank. Since a single pass water flow through the stator is used, only a minimum
temperature rise is obtained for both the coolant and the bars. Relatively movements due to the
different thermal expansions between the top and the bottom bars are thus minimized.

Flow path II cools the phase connectors and the bushings. The bushing and the phase connectors

Juvenile Crimes And Crime Rates
Did you know that murders, rapists, kidnappers and drug dealers are being released from jail after
only serving short and relaxed sentences. Who are these criminals you might ask, and what makes
them so special?
Good morning___ and welcome to _____. So I will tell you who they are, they are people like
you and me, juveniles under the age of 18 who commit atrocious adult crimes but are still tried in
juvenile courts. They not only get off with shortened sentences but when released are given new
identities to start a new life where no one knows what they previously have committed. They
continue to live their new lives in peace and contentment all while their victims and the families are
left to suffer.
This is why minors the age of 10 to 17 year olds who commit serious crimes like murder,
kidnapping, rape, aggravated assault and armed robbery should be charged as adults. Today I am
here to convince you that this is (the right notion and the most effective to decrease crime rates?)
They should be charged as adults firstly as every child, teen and adult knows right from wrong, if
they can do the crime they can do the time. Secondly, ____ and finally_____
So you might be thinking that minors are not adults and do not have the intellectual or moral
capacity to understand the consequences of their actions or that their brains are not fully developed
until at least the age of 20, in addition they are more vulnerable and impulsive to negative
influences and outside pressures.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Ulcers
In today s world, elderlies suffering with ulcers are very common. Ulcers are sores that occurs
on the external surface or internal surface of the body, which is caused by a break in the skin that
does not fully recover or fail to heal. Ulcers come in different forms, targeting different areas, due
to different reasons with some slight similarities to them.. People with ulcers has many treatment
options, depending on their case, stage, and kind of ulcer, for example stasis and pressure ulcer.
Stasis and pressure ulcer are two ulcers that has lack of bloodflow as a factor why it occurs, even
though it gives a different outcome for both ulcers. Pressure ulcers is also known as pressure
sores or bed sores, these sores occur when an individual is not being repositioned for some time,
causing constant pressure to an area. Some of the etiology of pressure ulcers stated by Jones, D
(2013) are, poor nutritional status, posture problems, medications, reduced blood flow, and
reduced mobility . Elderly nursing home patients has a very high rate of gaining this kind of ulcer
due to limited or reduced mobility and bed rest causing the blood flow to be cut off due to the
constant pressure. On the other hand, there is stasis ulcer, also known as venous stasis ulcer, a skin
condition which occurs in people with poor circulation. The stasis ulcer usually occurs in the
lower legs. The etiology of stasis ulcer stated by Beckerle, Carla Moore, Pathogenesis of venous

Comprehension of the information provided is the second requirement to achieve informed
consent3. If patients do not understand the information, then they cannot truly make informed
medical decisions. Patients who are incompetent due to age or mental disability may have a third
party make medical decisions on their behalf. These individuals must be able to understand the
situation and act in the best interest of the patient. Lastly, the patient must agree to the therapy
voluntarily3. Patients must be protected from coercion or pressures that could cause them to enter
into treatment that they do not want. Only after these requirements are met should the patient
initiate the proposed therapy. Informed consent is essential to building a strong provider patient

This paper will examine a situation where multiple ethical concepts are at play, identify several
courses of action, and draw conclusions in accordance with the pharmacists code of ethics. The
ethical dilemma arises when a patient makes suboptimal medical decisions after being given all of
the information necessary to fulfill the requirements of informed consent. The scenario is as follows:

Sunday Morning By Wallace Stevens
Wallace Stevens a well known American poet once said, In poetry, you must love the words, the
ideas and the images and rhythms with all your capacity to love anything at all. In these lines,
Stevens beautifully reveals that poetry is all about enjoying each line and each and every part of
the poem as it would give you satisfaction and love for poetryas never before. Similarly, Stevens
wrote a magnificent piece of work Sunday Morning , with various pieces of literary devices to
enhance his poetry making it descriptive and enjoyable to read. For example, the use of techniques
such as symbolism, theme, imagery, and tone Sunday Morning displays the clash that the speaker
endures as she questions the Christian religionand her discovery of love for nature. It is evident
throughout the poem that the woman has difficulty finding happiness in religion and enjoys nature,
finding it to be inspiring unlike religion that can be destructive and disappointing. The poem starts

rewards that result from Christianity and wonders how life would be if revolved around nature
instead of religion. The poems message that nature must be adored because it is not permanent
and everything that is temporary is worth living allowed readers like me to really wonder if
every religion is the same or not. This poem has created a new perception of how to see nature and
religion and how we should avoid exhausting ourselves under fixed religion and should focus more

#1 MAKE OBSERVATIONS
Even in middle school biology I learned that the body produced ATP and used it for energy, and I
never thought about what the abbreviation meant. When I learned that ATP was adenosine
triphosphate, which is composed of a modified form of adenine and phosphates, it made me wonder
why there is not chemical energy using the other bases.
#2 ASK QUESTIONS
Why is ATP the most common form of chemical energy rather than CTP, TTP, or GTP?
#3 HYPOTHESIS
Because adenine is a purine and utilizes 2 hydrogen bonds when it is in DNA, it fits better with the
ribose and phosphates.
The body produces an excess of adenine so it is the best choice for a nitrogenous base.
When mRNA is travelling to the ribosome to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
dATP has no purpose other than in DNA replication.
ATP is the most popular source because adenosine has many uses.
ATP is used in kinases, as a source of energy, and can combine with niacin to form NAD.
Guanosine is similar to adenosine, but is rarely used to give up phosphates. The only exception is
in tubulin, which helps with construction of cytoskeletons.
Guanosine is mainly used in G proteins, which help relay hormonal and chemical signals.
Other guanosine molecules mainly help control intercellular traffic and relay signals.
Uridine is mainly used in glycogen synthesis. UTP will bind to a glucose and form a UDP glucose
and a free phosphate, making the glucose more reactive.
UDP is used to help break down the other monosaccharides as well.
CTP is similar to UTP except that instead of helping break down sugar CTP helps to break down
fats.
CDP diacylglycerol and CDP choline are all found in plasma membranes.
ATP is ideal because it is a purine and purine rings give them a wider range of uses.

The Consultative Sales Process Guide
Essay Question # 2:
The consultative sales process guide is a process used to think of a sales presentation to create
value added to the product or service. This includes need discovery, selection of the solution, need
satisfaction through informing, persuading and reminding, and servicing the sale. According to
Manning, need discovery aids salespeople in creating value, meet the needs of customers, and
execute the firms commitment by reviewing behaviors of successful salespeople (230). Need
discovery is a problem solving tool that avoids customer complaints and promotes return customers.
Need discovery is the first step in the sales presentation by asking client questions and surveying
potential customers to see if they are the right fit for the company, and the time it takes to establish
this entirely depends on the situation (Manning 230, 2012). Need discovery adds value, by
beginning with preparation on behalf of the salesperson where they qualify the prospect (Manning
231, 2012). After consideration, salespeople start up a two way conversation with the potential
client, helping clients realize their problems that they did not know they had before.
The next step is the selection of the solution, where salespeople customize solutions based on a
client s particular problem, because no two problems are the same. In this step, salespeople throw
out suggestions and recommendations to the client, where they will satisfy the customer, therefore
salespeople must be a

The Composition Of Felony Criminal Trials For The Public...
During my time interning at the Public Defender s Office, I have observed that time is one of the
biggest issues. It has been shown that is quicker for an indigent individual to plead guilty than it is
for them to receive adequate legal representation. After obtaining an attorney, it is a lengthy process
when going through the different hearings and trials. Often taking several months for cases to be
fully resolved. The composition of felony criminal trials in Lowndes County is very complex.
There are several various steps within the trialprocess. The first official step before conducting a
trial is making an arrest. An arrest can be made with or without a warrant; however, probable
cause must be present in both cases. Upon making an arrest, the detaining officer has forty eight
hours to appear before a judge with probable cause for the arrest, which is the sufficient reason
based on the facts that a crimehas been committed. Subsequently, after being arraigned, if the
individual cannot afford an attorney one is appointed to them from the Public Defender s office.
Next occurs the indictment. The District Attorney s office receives the arrest warrant and then
reviews the case, by dropping and adding charges if necessary. They also have the discovery, which
is the evidence the state has against the defendant. The case then goes before a Grand Juryto
determine if an indictment is ready. The following month the first hearing to occur after a defendant
is indicted is the

  • 2. Childhood Obesity Epidemic, By The Encyclopedia Of Science For the past few decades, the dire situation of obesity in America has gotten worse and is now affecting new generations of young Americans. Every day the poor eating and physical choices that children make can lead them to a life with diabetes, heart disease, and cancers. The unhealthy lifestyle that children have is influenced by their parents and the society that surrounds them. This unprecedented surge of poor lifestyle choices has lead to an epidemic that young children are now facing. Ultimately, the health of young children is at stake. Being obese is not just being overweight, but being overweight at an unhealthy level. The way to classify someone as overweight is by using their body mass index, better known as BMI. If someone has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the Encyclopedia of Science s article, obesity is affecting any child from any ethnicity or race, age, economic backing, or region. Hispanic children, African American children, native American children, and any other children with bad quality eating habits, especially in the south, are at an exceptionally higher risk. The southern part of America is known for their comfort food, which is extremely fattening, and is the reason why children living in the south have an exceptionally higher chance of becoming obese. In the African American communities, as well as the Hispanic communities, nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. Children who are at a lower economic standing may have a higher chance of developing obesity, but that doesn t mean wealthier children are immune. The site, Let s Move states that without solving this issue, 1/3 of all children born after 2000 will suffer from diabetes at one point in their lives. Statistics from the Encyclopedia of Life Science show that this number is still growing and is being compared to the 7% of obese children and 5% obese teens in the 1980 s, to show the changes needed to be done in society. More action, now more than ever, needs to be taken against obesity. Obese children risk developing cardiovascular problems, cancers and as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles and Rollo made similar agreements to make system of government called feudalism. It was also based on rights, obligation, landholding and protective alliances ( Feudalism in Europe 360). • 4. The Pearl Imagery David Fauber Humanities 7 AB Inside the gate of imagery, merchants try to exploit the reader s thoughts, and surprise the reader with events the audience did not expect. Inside the gate of imagery, merchants try to exploit the reader s thoughts, and surprise the reader with events the audience did not expect. The merchants are the authors who created the gate of imagery and all inside the castle of the book. What a castle needs to not be destroyed, are walls, and imagery is the bricks of the wall and the gate that keep a book good. Imagery defends the castle because imagery is what paints a mental picture and without that mental picture, it would be as boring as staring at a page of words that mean nothing. That is why authors use imagery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this time, Kino has a son named Coyotito who had previously been stung by a scorpion. The sting swelled and while Kino was searching for a pearl to pay the doctor, Kino s wife, Juana, cures Coyotito. However, the doctor pretends that the scorpion sting is going to have a relapse still needs to be cured. Sometimes there will be a withered leg or a blind eye or a crumpled back. Oh, I know the sting of the scorpion, my friend, and I can cure it says the doctor(Steinbeck 35). What the doctor did was to describe physical disfigurements which for a person who has to hunt for food would be horrible because of the ethos of Kino. The article The Body Rituals of the Nacirema is another example of using what the audience expects to be hearing. What the author Horace Miner is to use imagery in a way that makes the American culture seem foreign. Such as the author describes that , the ritual consists of inserting a small bundle of hog hairs into the mouth, along with certain magical powders, and then moving the bundle in a highly formalized series of gestures, (Miner 2).This sounds absurd, but really it is how we brush our teeth, the bundle of hog hairs being part of the tooth brush and the magical powders being the ... • 5. Capital Punishment And Capital Involvement Capital punishment is an individual punishment to death for committing a crime. The history of capital punishment fluctuates worldwide, between different governments and beliefs. The current issue of capital punishment is taking lives without having a reliable reason to take them to the death penalty. One large and main issue is that capital punishmentbreaches, or breaks two essential human rights, which are the rights to life, and rights to living free of torture. This is a huge issue because an individual should not be able to surpass any conditions when the operations of the executions go against human rights. Another opposition of capital punishment is that many countries are sided with the penalties, however, the citizens of the country may think differently dependant on their religions and beliefs. The opposition between the government and the population in the country is another large issue because the diverse opinion only makes matters worse. Though many countries remain to argue that the punishments are beneficial, terminating the legal penalty would save thousands of lives. Discontinuing the penalties would benefit the whole world by cutting the large amount of taxes just for individual deaths, and the new adjustment would save lives from false reasons, and misunderstandings. UN Involvement: The main participant into capital punishment is the OHCHR or the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The committee is helping with the global issue by having ... • 6. Obstructive Sleep Apnea Essay In this day and age, nearly everyone has heard the term Sleep Apnea in one place or another, whether it was on the news, from a friend or relative, or perhaps from their very own physician. What is sleep apnea? Who is at risk for developing sleep apnea? Are there specific signs or symptoms to look for? How is sleep apneadiagnosed? Can it be treated? What additional health problems can be caused if the disorder is untreated? All of these are vital questions. Most people have encountered sleep apnea, but many do not know the answers to these important questions, and knowing these answers may help save their own life or the life of a loved one. Sleep apnea syndrome is a sleeping disorder marked by repetitive episodes of cessation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals of Black, Hispanic, or Pacific Island nationality as well as those over age 65 are also at increased risk. Obstructive Sleep Apnea can be very difficult to identify without help from another individual. Even though those who suffer from the disorder will notice differences in their sleep patterns, or the lack of ability to sleep, the development of OSA is a gradual process, and many of the signs are only displayed when the individual is asleep. The signs and symptoms indicative of OSA include daytime somnolence and fatigue, loud snoring, falling asleep during normal daily activities, being awakened by shortness of breath and or gasping, insomnia, frequent dry mouth or sore throat upon awakening, morning headaches, and sleep walking. Others around the individual may observe the actual periods of breathing cessation or talking while sleeping. Sleep apnea causes many additional health problems. Some of the physical problems it can cause are hypertension, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, and edema (swelling) of the limbs, trunk, and face, which can be severe to the point that fluid will escape through the skin. The health issues that are caused by sleep apnea are not limited to the physical, but also include psychological problems, such as forgetfulness, depression, impaired cognition, and shortened attention. Research has demonstrated that people diagnosed with sleep apnea frequently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Six Dimensions of Wellness Physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, spiritual, and environmental wellness are all considered the six dimensions of wellness with occupational wellness being the possible seventh. But what are these exactly? And how do they apply to me and my health and wellness? The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your body s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Some good examples of people who have achieved physical wellness are; Lance Armstrong and the Venus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two people I believe have developed interpersonal wellness are Oprah, and, on a personal note, my sister. The fifth dimension is spiritual wellness. The spiritual wellness of a person has to do with their own personal beliefs. A person doesn t have to believe in any one God, they just have to believe. To practice spiritual wellness is to have a sense of belonging to something greater than yourself and to have joy, compassion and, fulfillment in your beliefs. Examples of this dimension would be the Pope, and the Dalai Lama. The last of the six dimensions is environmental wellness. By definition environmental wellness means the livability of one s surroundings. A few steps we can take to improve our environmental wellness are reducing waste and pollution by recycling or carpooling when ever possible, and keeping your surroundings clean and free of hazards. Two people I admire for their concern for our environmental wellness are Al Gore and Cameron Diaz. The seventh dimension (as some experts say) is occupational wellness. This refers to the level of happiness you gain through your job. Career experts say that setting career goals that reflect your personal values is the way to achieve occupational wellness. Personally, I believe as long as you enjoy your work, the people you work with and have the opportunity to learn and grow with your job you can find occupational wellness. • 8. Descriptive Experience Essay A bright array of lights dotted the dark landscape beneath the plane where I sat It was late, around midnight, and the day had stretched beyond measure beginning with customs in the Atlanta airport. About 1:30 a.m. we landed in the airport at San Jose International Airport. I was exhausted but the beauty of the landscape would be only a shimmer of what was to come. The second I stepped off of the plane I felt anxious and hot, very hot. This being my first time outside of the United States was a completely new experience and everything was foreign to me. After we retrieved our bags from the baggage claim we headed out and were promptly picked up by a bus which carried us out of the city of San Jose, Costa Rica through mountains and jungle and delivered us to our cabins where we would be staying for the week. After a combined sixteen hours of travel we were here. As we stood on top of what seemed to me to be a mountain overlooking the city I was taken aback I have never seen anything like it. It was amazing. The next morning we woke up as early as 5:00 a.m. to get ready for what was to be a long day. Each morning we would travel to a church where we would hold a worship service and eat breakfast, after each breakfast and worship service we would go off to our respective places where we would work with a construction team building a basecamp for the ministry we were helping or we would go out and minister at the schools in the local area. We spent most of the first day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Privatization, the Best Option for Social Security Reform... Many are skeptical about the future of Social Security and are worried they will not receive the full pay out of benefits in the future. In the following pages I will state the reasons why Social Security is in need of reform, describe privatization and the pros and cons, and why privatization is the best option for Social Securityreform. Current problems with the Social Security fund exist, and are the reasons why Social Security is in the need of reform. According to Forbes Magazine, the fund is expected to run out by 2033 (Teal 2013). At this point, money will still be coming in, but will not pay out the full benefits to recipients. The worker to retiree ratio is continuously declining, being approximately three workers to every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This started the idea of having ownership over a private account that was personally controlled. Account holders were directly receiving the money they invested in Social Security, and have the option to spend the money as they see fit. Many pros and cons arise with this option of Social Security reform. With other options the government takes the risk, but with privatization it is a personal risk. When account holders reach retirement they are able to withdraw from the account and use the money as they see fit. Government does not control the amount or what the account holders use the money for, leaving recipients with the choice to spend as much of the money as they wish and as quickly as they want. With no control over the usage of savings, this defeats the purpose of Social Security as a safety net . The biggest downfall to this reform is the transition period. Not only would the transition be a high cost, but those that are closest to retirement could be left with smaller savings in their private account. If young workers create private accounts then they are not supporting current retirees, and they are not receiving what they should be (Mitchell 2011). Another concern is that not all recipients will end up with a fair amount of earnings in their account. Such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Motherhood Is A Major Theme Portrayed By Peter Pan The idea of motherhood is a major theme portrayed in this novel. Motherhood is having a child of your on and raising tht child to become the best they can be. Being there to support and love them when ever they need you to. J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a children s story about a boy who never wants to grow up and become an adult. Although the concept of having a motheris symbolized throughout Peter Pan, it is motherhood itself that prevents Peter Pan and others from maturing into responsible adulthood. Peter Pan wants a mother, but at the same time Peter does not trust mothers because he believes that his birth mother betrayed him. Peter also believes that mothers turn children into adults. The novel s opening scene is in the nursery of the Darling house, and it also ends in the nursery. The nursery is very important for the Darling family. It is where John, Wendy and Michael sleep, and where they are taken care of by Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling and also by their dog called Nana. Nana is portrayed as a maid in the novel because the Darlings could not afford to pay a human to work for them. The fact that J.M. Barrie decides on the nursery for being the location for both the beginning and the end of the novel is symbolic of the importance of family life and maternal care in the novel Peter Pan. After the Darling children return back home from their adventures in Neverland, they come back to the nursery to be taken care of again by their mother and father. Wendy, which ... • 13. The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality Essay... The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality There is much debate in sociology about whether class is still important. Many argue that class is no longer important as an individual s identity and life chances are based more status and cultural factors such as lifestyle, values, intelligence, education and the like, the post modernists state that class has ceased to be the prime determinant of identity and suggest that societies are now organised around consumption rather than production, consequently people now identify themselves in terms of what they consume rather than in terms of social class position. Class identity has therefore fragmented into numerous separate and individualised... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Davis and More state that this is fair as everyone finds their place in a society which offers different levels of rewards, thus inequality is legitimate. They state that since there is value consensus on the relative merit of certain occupations and the salaries they command, inequality does not cause conflict, but is seen as legitimate by all and is an accepted part of society. Talcott Parsons agreed with this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for everyone. The strength of this theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is unequally distributed. However, this theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about the relative merit of certain occupations, when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there are no structural barriers in society to those who have talent, for example, race or gender. Although this meritocratic approach has been developed more recently by the new right , with sociologists such as Saunders arguing that inequality is a necessary push for economic growth which in turn increases living standards, it has also been criticised by those such as Will Hutton who argued that inequality has led to poorer economic performance and not ... Incongruity is the very essence of irony. More specifically, irony is incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the expected result. FlanneryO Connor s works are masterpieces in the art of literary irony, the laughable and ridiculous. The incongruous situations, ridiculous characters, and feelings of superiority that O Connor creates make up her shocking and extremely effective, if not disturbing, humor. The narrator only compounds the laughable idea that these women are up to par with the average reader after all, O Connor was a well educated woman, writing for the literate when he/she notes Mrs. Hopewell s charitable pride of Mrs. Freeman: Mrs. Hopewell liked to tell people [...] that Mrs. Freeman was a lady and that she was never ashamed to take her anywhere (Diyanni 172). The reader is inclined to laugh even harder at this, a terrible irony, after having already established both ladies as simple, good country people. Of course, most of the true irony or humor found in O Connor s stories is not found in the immediate and obvious. If we were to consider only Mrs. Hopewell and Mrs. Freeman in the context in which they are presented to us in the beginning of the story, then we would have to conclude that O Connor is in fact making fun of the faithful. Fortunately, she is a much better writer with a much deeper intent than that; as the story develops, so does the integrity of the simple people. This eventual increase in status is something unexpected, especially since O Connor supplies the reader with a perfectly acceptable, intellectual character with which to relate: Joy, or more fittingly, Hulga. In meeting Hulga, O Connor s humor starts to get slightly more complicated. This is where she really begins to intermingle the tragic with the comic, and now her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the left we have a cartoon in which Darwin explains how the natural selection works to a hostile alien who claims that he would take the Earth in virtue of the survival of the fittest (Spencer, 1864). This catchphrase was coined by sociologist and biologist Herbert Spencer and actually was used by Darwin later, but always in the context of the reproductive success (Darwin, 1868). • 20. Feudalism In The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales was written during a time of societal change, away from the stability of feudalism and towards an individualistic, mercantile economy. Feudalism consisted of a static, rural economy where every member had a duty to serve those above them. They valued the greater good and were not focused on gaining economically for their own personal benefit. An era of change, however, began as events such as the Crusades opened up trading opportunities which would eventually cause a shift in England, as the economy went from being land based to money based. A mercantile class was on the rise as well as capitalism. People were no longer driven to work by a sense of personal duty for the common good, but rather for their own social and economic gain. Corruption of the Church during this time as well increased, as church members were affected negatively by this changing economy. Many were driven by greed as well and took on immoral approaches towards their church positions. Vows and church teachings were disregarded as indulgences and materialism became the main focus of many in the clergy. Through his satirical portrayal of his characters in CanterburyTales, Chaucer explores issues such as the changing economy and corruption of the church in order to expose and criticize the wrongdoings and values of his shifting society caused by the end of feudalism during this time. A changing economy produced a transformation in the beliefs of citizens, who chose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Proconsul was a position held for 10 years, and granted control over Spain, Gaul, Syria, Cilicia, Cyprus and Egypt, as well has having the right to appoint legates, make war and conclude treaties. However, it may be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives like grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living separately. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of morally disliked activities. The second main point will cover valid arguments against the separation of forces. The third main point will further advocate for a separate space force. 2. The most basic reason for establishing a separate space force is the different terrain.1 We look to the Navy to be experts in the sea and the Army on the ground.2 We look to the Air Force as experts in air dominance and supremacy, not space dominance or space power.3 Space is an afterthought for most of our leaders due to their extensive flying backgrounds and lack of space warfare knowledge, at no fault of their own.4 It is unlikely that we will see a space officer sitting in the Chief of Staff role if the forces remain under one command due to the large role that air power plays over space power.5 The space terrain deserves a seat at the table with land, air and sea.6 The only way to make this happen is to establish a separate United States Space Force.... Conquest And The Start Of Colonialism Conquest In the era preceding the age of conquest and the start of colonialism around the late 1400s was a dark time in Europe both socially and economically. Under the feudalist system, there was strict social classes which made upward mobility nearly impossible, even for those born into lower level nobility. Morale was also waning as pestilence and war persisted. The bubonic plague in the mid 1300s ravaged Europeand by some estimates, cut the population by half. France and England fought in the Hundred Years War that quite literally meant that the region was in a state of war for a century, between 1337 to 1453. Additionally, one of the last vestiges of the Christian Eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople, fell to the Muslim Ottomans in 1453. This event not only hurt western esteem, but also cut off the major trade route from Europe to Asia. All of this meant that Europe, both the courts and the Church were seeking a way to increase prestige and wealth. Conquest was the response, by allowing nations to find new land to possess, and new resources to exploit, and especially new enemies to defeat. The period in the late 1400s is sometimes euphemistically called, The Age of Exploration, connoting ideas of discovery, knowledge building, and awe. • 34. Simply Good News Chapter Summary N. T. Wright is a scholar, theologian and retired bishop who has written a number books related to the study of Christianity. In writing Simply Good News, Wright is hoping to bring awareness to the fact that Christians have forsaken seeing the Christian faith as good news. He explains that the idea that the gospel is good news is news in itself. Through this book, Wright challenges many beliefs and understandings of the Christian faith. He encourages the reader to rethink what the good news is. Instead of seeing Christianity as advice to be taken, it should be viewed as news. Furthermore, Wright explains how the Church has distorted the understanding of the good news. The good news presented to us in the Bible is not a set of rules to live by, the good news is not an event that took place. The good news is so much more than any of that. Accepting the good news is not optional. Wright also discusses how Jesuswas much different than any other teacher. The claims Jesus made were to transform the world. Wright ends the book by telling Christians how they should pray and not just live out the good news, but become the good news. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He supports this by offering several examples of where Christians have neglected the true meaning of the gospel. In chapter 3, Wright explains that, the good news is that the one true God has now taken charge of the world, in and through Jesus and his death and resurrection (Wright, 55.) Wright goes on to explain that the good news has happened and will happen. Every single human has the opportunity to be transformed by the good news (Wright, 55.) In other words, the gospel is not solely about what happened many years ago, but it is about how the event that happened over two thousand years ago can still affect us ... Youth culture can be seen as a particular pattern of beliefs, values, symbols and activities that a group of young people are seen to share. Along with the rise of youth culture came the theories developed on it. The theories developed in the 60 s were mainly functionalism. Functionalists believe that society or a social structure is like a biological structure and that all social institutions function for the survival of society. As social structures change by becoming more complex, social institutions change by becoming more specialised. Functionalists like Eisenstadt explain social institutions in terms of social problems and cultural solutions. The youth problem lies in young peoples marginal status, youth culture eases the resulting anxieties and uncertainties. His argument is that in meeting young peoples needs, youth culture has the general function of smoothing the transition from child to adult. He believes that the most important function for its members was emotional and providing young people with a set of relationships, (peer groups.) The most important point for Eisenstadt is not that some young people become deviants but that even the most deviant of youths become normal adults. He saw youth culture not as a political rebellion but as an essential problem solving social function. Eisenstadts argument is a general argument. It refers to the transition that faces all young people in industrial society but not all young people are the same. He didn t take into account that growing up middle class is different to growing up working class and that growing up male is different to growing up female. Also, he was explaining youth culture in a time of relative affluence and optimism, growing up was not particularly problematic in the 1950 s. In the 1970 s the strongly Marxist influenced CCCS related class to youth subcultures. They argued that youth styles were a reflection of the economic system and its related class relations. • 36. The Benefits Of Assisted Living Assisted living has become the generic name for most senior living facilities. However, today these facilities come in many different sizes and levels of care. Early in history there were only two choices for seniors, they could age at home with family or they could enter a nursing home. Many seniors who couldn t completely live on their own and were still to some degree independent and able bodied did not need higher levels of care offered at nursing facilities; creating a need for different types of senior living. Assisted living became a more ideal lifestyle for seniors who wanted to age independently. Facilities have now begun to tailor their offerings to specific populations creating specialties with differing levels of care. With the U.S. population aging there is not only an increase in number of senior facilities but also their characteristics. As a result of the baby boom during 1946 to 1964 children comprised approximately one third of the U.S. population in 1970, and only one tenth of the population was 65 or older. Today, 40 million people in the United States are ages 65 and older, but this number is projected to more than double to 89 million by 2050 (Jacobsen, Kent, Lee, Mather, 2011). Coupled with the number of baby boomer reaching the age 65 is the fact that people are now living longer. In 1970 the average age was 70.8 years, in 2010 the average age was 78.3 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2011). However it doesn t necessary mean that since the average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As mentioned in this week s materials theories can assist with developing explanations and/or ideas about criminal activity, such as, the factors that caused the offender to commit the crime, how to prevent the offender and others from committing more crime, or the most effective punishments. Without the presence of theories all policies and practices put into place would lack verification of effectiveness and need (Blokar, 2015). In our readings, various theories on the effectiveness of punishment were either verified or unsupported at some point in time over the past three centuries. This flow path passes through water manifold on the exciter end of the generator and from there to the stator bars via insulated bar is connected to the manifold by a separate hose. Inside the bars the cooling water flows through hollow strands. At the turbine end, the water is passed through the similar hoses to another water manifold and then return to the primary water tank. Since a single pass water flow through the stator is used, only a minimum temperature rise is obtained for both the coolant and the bars. Relatively movements due to the different thermal expansions between the top and the bottom bars are thus minimized. Flow Path II : Flow path II cools the phase connectors and the bushings. The Consultative Sales Process Guide Essay Question # 2: The consultative sales process guide is a process used to think of a sales presentation to create value added to the product or service. This includes need discovery, selection of the solution, need satisfaction through informing, persuading and reminding, and servicing the sale. According to Manning, need discovery aids salespeople in creating value, meet the needs of customers, and execute the firms commitment by reviewing behaviors of successful salespeople (230). Need discovery is a problem solving tool that avoids customer complaints and promotes return customers. Need discovery is the first step in the sales presentation by asking client questions and surveying potential customers to see if they are the right fit for the company, and the time it takes to establish this entirely depends on the situation (Manning 230, 2012). Need discovery adds value, by beginning with preparation on behalf of the salesperson where they qualify the prospect (Manning 231, 2012). After consideration, salespeople start up a two way conversation with the potential client, helping clients realize their problems that they did not know they had before. After obtaining an attorney, it is a lengthy process when going through the different hearings and trials. Often taking several months for cases to be fully resolved. The composition of felony criminal trials in Lowndes County is very complex. There are several various steps within the trialprocess. The first official step before conducting a trial is making an arrest. An arrest can be made with or without a warrant; however, probable cause must be present in both cases. Upon making an arrest, the detaining officer has forty eight hours to appear before a judge with probable cause for the arrest, which is the sufficient reason based on the facts that a crimehas been committed. Subsequently, after being arraigned, if the individual cannot afford an attorney one is appointed to them from the Public Defender s office. Next occurs the indictment. The District Attorney s office receives the arrest warrant and then reviews the case, by dropping and adding charges if necessary.
