2. Water Essay
Water quality management in agricultural catchments, generally, appears to focus on identifying
and reducing nutrient losses from the root zone of intensive farming activities. In recent years,
reducing nutrient loss from root zone and minimizing the impact on farming practices of freshwater
bodies has taken centre stage in this debate (Clothier et al., 2007). To fully understand management
options of water this study will explore the vicious cycle of how on the source, the mode of
transportation and the impact on water catchments (Clothier et al., 2007). Transportation process

However, the amount of nitrate leached from the root is dependent on how it is transported and
transformed on the subsurface. According to Knowles (1982) dentrification process of nitrates
reduces/attenuate flow of nitrates from root zone to water catchment (rivers and lakes). This
finding were later supported by Rivett el., 2008, where he argued that dentrification process
minimizes nitrate influx from areas of high concentration beneath the water table. This process is
catalyst by chemical, physical and biological feature. In addition nutrients and oxidation of carbon
act as catalyst to this process (Rivett et al., 2008). Research show that Current nitrogen attenuation

amounts of nitrogen from the root zone. The continuous organization and moderation practices to
minimize the root zone nitrogen percolation to achieve specific confines. However, the
disadvantage of this approach is that it ignores spatial disparities hydrogeological backgrounds that
might increase or decrease. They might also attenuate leading to a flux in nitrogen level since it
moves from the root region to water bodies and rivers. Nitrogen leached then adds to ground water
and influences movement and conversion of nitrogen in the underground environment.

Mein Kampf in English translates to: my struggle to understand the truth. Hated and fear of the
Jews are the two main themes of the book. Hitler had an absolute obsession with the Jews and
was convinced that the Jews were planning to take over Germany and were on the verge to
victory. After reading the provided pages from this book, I believe that Hitler truly saw a life/death
apocalyptic struggle between the citizens of Germanyand the Jews and uses this as a scapegoat for
the problems of Germany as a political instrument. An example of this life/death apocalyptic
struggle is seen in his assertion that intermarriage results in a weaker offspring. Meaning, that the
weaker parents genes dominate the child. In fact, Hitler stated that the result

4. The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism
Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial
topic in psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the
two and chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to
identify the main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism
and Asperger syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger
syndrome should be categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple
scholars have come upon differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of
the two disorders which either agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived
from Hans Asperger who is highly recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many
scholars had described as not diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To
understand the standoff between autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the
common basis of the two disorders as provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed
as the parent disorder that may give rise to Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting
from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising from genetic factors. Additionally, it is
developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently depending on factors such as ability or
age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a

5. Benefits Of A Successful Business
In order to have a successful business, businesses need to find a way to keep employees motivated
to do their jobs and increase work satisfaction. This is undeniably crucial for a business to continue
to be profitable. Some solutions to this problem are incentives, having a good work environment,
and showing appreciation.
When employees perform poorly by not doing their job or not doing their job well, it reflects
negatively on the business. Customers who are not satisfied, may complain and may not return.
Customers can also discourage others from going to that particular establishment by telling their
friends about their terrible experience. The business then loses money from that customer and that
customers friends who now do business with the competition. That business may now have a bad
reputation that started from that one customer s negative experience (Deeb).
By keeping employees pleased and excited at their jobs, they tend to perform better than those
employees who are not please at their job. In an article written by John Waggoner, he wrote, If a
company treats its employees well, the business should prosper.... So in other words, the business
makes money if the employees are pleased. Employees who are given incentive tend to perform
better at their jobs than people who do not receive incentive. Google is an example of a company
that is highly successful and is known for having generous benefits for their employees to par take.

7. How Did The Sino Japanese War Change In China
China s history is riddled with violence and revolution that would change the country forever.
From the 17th century, the Qing dynasty ruled with no one being able to oppose them as they
were that superior to all who would oppose them. Until the time for change arrived. There were
many things that caused this change but one of the more significant catalysts of this change was
the Sino Japanese war. The Sino Japanese war occurred because of the rising conflict between
China and Japan for superiority in the country of Korea. China had a strong grip on Korea;
however, Japan wanted Korea because of its location and natural resources, which are two things
Japan desperately wanted from China. Japan then forced Korea to follow their lead and adopt

Agency Costs and Financial Decision Making
The Concept
An agency relationship is a contract under which one or more persons (the principal(s)) engage
another person (the agent) to perform some service on their behalf which involves delegating
some decision making authority to the agent. If both parties to the relationship are utility
maximizers and they may have divergent goals and objectives, and there is good reason to believe
that the agent will not always act in the best interests of the principal (Jensen, Michael C., and

In the majority of large publicly traded corporations, agency conflicts are potentially quite
significant because the firm s managers generally own only a small percentage of the common stock
. Therefore, shareholder wealth maximization could be subordinated to an assortment of other
managerial goals. For instance, managers may have a fundamental objective of maximizing the size
of the firm. By creating a large, rapidly growing firm, executives increase their own status, create
more opportunities for lower and middle level managers and salaries, and enhance their job security
because an unfriendly takeover is less likely. As a result, incumbent management may pursue
diversification at the expense of the shareholders who can easily diversify their individual portfolios
simply by buying shares in other companies. (http://www.referenceforbusiness.com/encyclopedia/A

Managers can be encouraged to act in the stockholders best interests through incentives, constraints,
and punishments. These methods, however, are effective only if shareholders can observe all of the
actions taken by managers. A moral hazard problem, whereby agents take unobserved actions in
their own self interests, originates because it is infeasible for shareholders to monitor all managerial
actions. To reduce the moral hazard problem, stockholders must incur agency costs.

9. Slavery During The 19th Century

US Dual Credit History

Slavery in 17th Century VS Slavery in the late 19th Century Many people view slavery as one
consecutive time period where African Americans were captured and kept to serve the needs of
Caucasian individuals and families. But not very many people know the true extent of slavery
among the colonies. Less are aware of the nature in which slavery evolved from a trading
industry in the 17th century into its greater known state of forced labor in the 19th century.
When most people hear the word slave, they picture an African American held in bondage by an
English slave holder. While this may be an accurate description for many cases, a lot of different
ethnic groups would paint a different picture. When the Spanish first came to America, they saw
the natives as their tickets to the riches of the new world. As their greed for wealth and
agricultural demand rose, the demand for slaves also began to increase. Although, as time began
to reveal, the Spaniards also found it hard to keep the native slaves because many of them had
allies and since they were native to the land, they knew it pretty well enough to escape. African
enslavement really started when the Spaniards began to seek for slaves that were foreign to the
land and would survive their harsh treatment and foreign diseases (McDougal 77). As early as
1619, a Dutch ship carried the first Africans to Virginia, but it would not be until the 1680s that

This book, when you cut to the heart of the matter, talks about leaders involving people, making
people feel good about themselves and what they do.
Much of the book discusses why this is true by explaining how the brain operates. There is
discussion how neurotransmitters work and how neural chemical reactions occur in the brain.
These explanations are done in lay terms so that anyone can understand them.
There are also examples given of how this has worked. And some examples are given where, due to

The whole concept of how one person s mental state can influence all those around them was very
interesting to me. Along with that how the four EI domains (Self Awareness, Self Management,
Social Awareness, and Relationship Management) are learned abilities.
For much of my life I thought that these were attributes that you either had or did not have, or
that if they were learned at all it was while you were very young and you were then set for life . I
was glad to read that research shows that these attributes can be learned later in life, that it just takes
more time and more effort.
So, the concept, noted above, that the brain can be reprogrammed to operate differently than it
had been trained to operate was very eye opening to me. That we are not hard wired from birth is
very meaningful to me. It tells me that I can continue to grow as a person and improve myself in
how I deal with others. If I only continue long enough I can and will improve all four areas of EI,
but for me, most importantly Relationship
Management.
Another important concept, for me, was that the brain can grow new cells. This indicates that
decline in mental capacities, as we age, is not necessarily inevitable. It also means that we can
develop new skills as we age. With people living and working longer, it s good to know that we can
continue to remain (mentally) active and productive. While

hearts in, as it drew mine back in the days. It was the same music that gave me a feeling of
encouragement to carry out the ways of God; the same music that made me want to repent from
my sinful ways in business and day to day wrongdoings. The walls were tall and the ceiling had
tinted windows. On the sides, there were glass windows made of numerous beautiful colors. They

story starts, not really anyways. My name is Nadie Luccius and I am the one and only angel to
tear off his wings and plunge down to Earth all for the sake of being human. This is the story of
the war between humans and angels and it started one year ago.
The angel Nadie walked on the path of heaven being blamed for the misfortune in the battle
against demons, after all every place needs a pariah to take the blame, even heaven. The angel
looked down at Earth and looked at the humans marveling at their complexity, their weakness, and
their strength. Nadie couldn t help but to marvel at them. Most angels saw the humans as weak
hairless apes, but Nadie loved them. Most of all he wanted to be one.
The angels liked to refer to Nadie as the next Lucifer, but he was the exact opposite. Lucifer was
cast down to hell because he could not love humans more than God, and therefor defied his father.
On the other hand Nadie loved and adored the humans.
An angel called out to Nadie
Hey Nadie Michael wants to speak with you. The angel said.
What does he want Leviaten? Nadie questioned.

Individuals as well as both the Union and the Confederacy were facing problems as they tried to

16. A Study on Opportunity,Total, and Marginal Costs
Opportunity costs, total costs and marginal costs What are opportunity costs? How do explicit
and implicit costs relate to opportunity costs? Opportunity cost is the value of the best
alternative that one gives up for the current choice or decision. It is an important concept in
economics and is used for emphasizing the relationship between scarcity and choice. It is the
cost sacrificed or foregone in any decision. These opportunity costs extend to all aspects of
production and consumption. Two costs related to opportunity costs are explicit and implicit
costs. Explicit costs is the direct monetary payment or expense that a producer incurs by
choosing one option over another. For example, a firm incurs $1000 as wages for workers when
it decides to produce steel pans instead of cast iron pans and this $1000 is considered as the
explicit opportunity cost for the production of steel pans. Implicit costs, on the other hand, are
those that cannot be measured directly and do not involve any monetary payments. A good
example is when someone chooses between working and staying at home for personal reasons.
The implicit opportunity cost is the salary that is lost by not working and staying at home to
pursue a passion. Г‚ If the average total cost curve is falling, what is necessarily true of the
marginal cost curve? If the average total cost curve is rising, what is necessarily true of the
marginal cost curve? The total cost curve (TC) is the cost of production for a company

One of the main bases of Roman culture is Religion. In fact, almost everything the Roman
citizens did revolved around beliefs, gods, and goddesses. Not only was their way of living
affected by religion but the progression of advancement in infrastructure and early forms of
technology were as well. By examining Roman baths and temples, defixiones, and Romanization of
the provinces of the empire it is clear that religionhelped to shape Roman advancements in
infrastructure and early forms of technology during this time. Aquae Sulis and its baths are a
perfect example of how religion affected Roman life and culture. Romans took mineral springs of
hot water, declared them sacred, and transformed them into huge public baths and temples for
worship. For the Romans believed that emerging one s self into the hot water would bring healing

the process of approval for their products.
Instead of telling someone negative information, Indians in the babudom will often communicate a
negative response by endless stalling. This stalling could last for months or even years.
Throughout this stalling, the Indian will come up with excuses for why something has not been
done. Americans must be able to recognize when they are being given false information and know
when to move on. For example, if an is unable to do something for your company, he or she still

Technology Addiction. According to ВЁAmericans are addicted to smartphonesВЁ 58 percent
of U.S. smartphone owners check their phones at least every hour and a large share check their
phones while in bed or in the bathroom. If in some catastrophic event they were to lose their
device, 73 percent of people admit they would feel panicked while another 14 percent would
feel desperate (Fitzgerald). This goes to show just how smartphones and technology in general
have taken over the lives of people considering that smartphones were not popular until the late
2010. Technology has become the backbone of society in this day and age. People seemingly
cannot live without technology as it helps them backup data, plan their days and even drive
their cars. Despite all its good uses, technology like most things has of adverse effects.
Technology has come along way since the dawn of time. Even though most of its negative
effects had yet to be discovered. For example, in the fourteenth century people used to use lead
to treat diseases and for a while both lead and radium were used in medical technology and aided
as treatments. Technology mainly involved practical advancements to help people survive in a
dangerous world . As people and societies progressed, technology conformed to the increasingly
settled and sophisticated state of civilization. Much of modern technology is complex and idea
based and aims to increase abundance, comfort, and ease of life . (dziak). Technology in ancient
times was use to make work easier protect people from dangerous activities, but now technology
has started to replace even us in the workplace. The invention of robots and automated services has
rendered the need to teach, hire or even retrain people ineffective. Technology has advanced to suit
our lives.Although in some cases people, doing the work themselves might be more practical
while others seem to think that using technology would be a better, error free option.this could be
bad for people looking for a job, because employer would think using robot would be a more

The effects of xenophobia on South African society are devastating. Xenophobia causes tension
between citizens and immigrants, causes displacement of thousands and even loss of life. It also
undermines the fragile relationships and trust between the foreigners and citizens. It violates what
our country stands for (democracy and equality to all) by not treating immigrants as equals
especially when they need basic services from the government. The immigrants also present

Weapons of the American Civil War
Amongst the most lasting of factors stemming from the Civil War are the weapons that were
developed. Before the Civil War, the weapons used were highly unreliable, and were not advanced
enough to provide the needed defense for a young nation such as our own. Innovative minds created
many interesting ways to demolish their enemies without ever having to fire a shot or go into full
combat through different types of bombs that were in disguise. Among the advancements in the
Civil War were the torpedo, the carbine rifle, the minie` ball, several models of rifle muskets, rocket

A few years of development and a patent later, the minie` ball was ready for combat. In the 1850
s, James H. Burton, a master of arms, made a few alterations such as slightly lengthening the bullet
and thinning the walls of the hollow base. These alterations made the minie` ball much easier and
cheaper to mass produce; this is what was used by the blue and gray s out on the battlefields.
The Union soldiers were more likely to carry the U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket than
any other weapon. These guns were not the easiest or most convenient weapons even if they
were the most common. The Model 1861 was a .58 caliber gun, was 58.5 inches long, and
weighed in at a heavy 9.25 pounds. This rifle was nicknamed The Widow Maker. This nickname
was made with great thanks to the minie` bullet which was an integral part of this rifle musket.
The combination of the rifle musket and the minie` bullet forever changed the face of warfare;
thus because for the first time ever, men could aim at a distant target, and have a decent chance of

Public figures and their Privacy.
Everyone dreams of earning fame and fortune. People who are popular by virtue of their
professions, whether it is acting, sports or politics, try their best to earn the admiration and
respect of the public. This is because a huge fan base following can always use their advantage
irrespective of whether you are an actor or a politician. However, this fame and fan following
comes at a price: the loss of their privacy. Shakelford defined privacy as, Privacy is a vast concept
encompassing freedom of thought, freedom of bodily integrity, solitude, information integrity,
freedom of surveillance, and the protection of reputation and personality .(Shakelford,132) Many
newspapers, magazines, television programs, make money by reporting on private lives of
public figures such as politicians, sports person, celebrities, entertainers, and others. Does public
means no privacy? Before answering to this question we can turn on the television and see lots
of details about celebrities and public figures. The fact is that a reporter always tries to discover
the private lives of famous people. Privacy is one of the most important things on earth. When
one invades the privacy of another it causes a reaction of betrayal in the eyes of a person whose
privacy is being invaded. But does it apply to the public figures? In my opinion I believe that

32. An Explosive Acquisition Of Language
As my almost two year old embarks upon her first meaningful conversations with us, I am
reminded how important language and words are to each of us. Harper has only recently begun
to proudly announce her name as she enters a room, counting to four, and identifying shapes in
board books. Anything that is green is a frog, and anything that is furry is, of course, a dog. Her
enthusiasm and delightful squeals when she has discovered a new word are mesmeric. Her brow
furls as she processes and realizes that she, in fact, understands a new concept that did not exist in
her world until 0.25 seconds prior. An explosive acquisition of language is allowing her to embrace
the world in ways that had previously been inaccessible to her.
Being almost two also seems overwhelming. When my sweet yet determined little lady does not
have words to communicate her thoughts or her present needs at a given moment, she
immediately becomes frustrated, distraught, or downright upset. Again, her brow crinkles up in a
desperate attempt to make sense of her surroundings. This level of frustration often results in
tears and necessitates a hug, which I secretly slightly enjoy (She ll only cuddle for so long). Her
tears, however, also remind me to pause and consider the feelings of all those who feel as if they do
not have a voice.

however, what about the end of life? Or the inevitable as I like to call it. It may sound jaded or
cynical, but it is true. Death is an inevitable part of life and we will all experienceit one day. Unlike
the beginning of life, death is more difficult to understand and deal with. Death results in the
loss of someone and the realization that we will not live forever so each day we have with each
other is precious and must be treated as such. I came to realize this at a young age when I lost
my oldest brother and since then I have learned not to take life for granted and to cherish the ones
you love while you still have them. I was 11 years old in August of 2001 and it was a hot summer

While on offense, quarterback Andrew Luck is doing everything in his power to will the team to

Donte Moncrief for 4 6 weeks with a fractured scapula.
With all those factors, it is not looking good for Indianapolis. However, they have a favorable

You can see in the image above where I aligned to my best abilities the beginning of Coltrane s

but you can still see how some of the words can fit into the rhythms Coltrane played. I personally
believe Coltrane did this on purpose. Of course, we have no way of know but there are some
points in the speech and music where it lines up so well that it s unmistakable. There are also
parts that do not mix well together, some of which you can see above but maybe Coltrane did
that on purpose as well, to add his own take on King s speech. Maybe even say some more things
that King didn t say that Coltrane wanted him to say. Coltrane s use of his playing abilities
makes this piece speak volumes. The beginning of this piece is essentially a lament. You can feel
the sorrow and grief of the friends and family involved in this tragedy pour out of Coltrane s
sound. Coltrane never considered himself to be a political activist. He was a musician first, but he
was also a deeply religious person. Maybe it was his beliefs that drew him towards the civil rights
movement. Coltrane played eight benefit concerts to support Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964 and
recorded multiple tracks to help inspired the struggle. Art like this though cannot depend on content

CAS calculator is a multi representational too with symbolic, graphical and numeric capabilities
and a large variety of procedural skills that include calculus, drawing graphs, and the execution of
numerical, vector, matrix, and statistical calculations (Zbiek, Heid Hirsch, 2009). The CAS
calculator is a powerful dynamic tool that offers opportunities of learning new concepts and
experiences and allows teachers to use the CAS to help students focus on either a more targeted or
a global view of their work with symbolic representations, depending on the instructional goal
(Zbiek, Heid Hirsch, 2009). Bert Waits, co‐founder of T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology)
mentioned that graphing calculator is a great pedagogical tool as it offers multi‐representational
approaches in teaching and learning of mathematics (Parrot Eu, 2014). Paragraph 1 How is it used

43. Merrymakers at Shrovetide vs Interrupted Sleep
Since the first brush stroke was taken in Europe, the paintings that have been produced have
played a vital role in revealing our world s past, history, religion and daily lives of its citizens.
Each time period and movement have influenced artists from its first existence to even this very
day, creating an extraordinary timeline of art and history as one. Frans HalsMerrymakers at
Shrovetide of 1615 and Francois Boucher s Interrupted Sleep of 1750 are no exception. Despite
their different time periods and movements, the two paintings each have many parallels and at the
same time very distinct styles which play on how influential artists styles are upon each other. Even
with all of the differences and similarities, both paintings are... Show more content on

When comparing the two paintings style there are many similarities as Interrupted Sleep of the
Rococo period came after the tail end of the Baroque period in which Merrymakers at Shrovetide
was completed. Hals painting show s well indulged and plump figures with fairly muted colors
with some use of reds. It is a centrally planned composition with no landscape only an endless
crowd of merry men. The painting is also quite dark overall with nice value and shading, as the
setting is in a tavern during the evening with little natural light. Although with Hals technique of
using dashing brushstrokes, the painting appears as if it could come to life with its realistic
rendering of the tavern scene. This technique goes unnoticed until one closes in upon the painting
to view his actually brush strokes which could possibly even be counted. Unlike Merrymakers at
Shrovetide, Boucher s Interrupted Sleep illustrates two tall and thin figures of elegance upon a
quiet countryside scene. The painting is lighter in value with natural sunlight and contains a
number of more colors making it a more upbeat and pleasant picture. The rich and lavish vegetation
spreads through the background with a small and rounded architectural form. The brush stroke is
smoother and gives the painting a more natural and quiet appeal as it is overall more intimately
themed. Like in Hals painting, Boucher takes advantage of value and uses it with folds

RFID in aspects such as cost, standard, accuracy and application mode in the popularization and

I reluctantly took a step back as I stared at the commodious bleach white building towering above
me. I have not been here for years and I instantly feel my stomach erupt in butterflies. Today was
the first day of my volunteering program at the University of Florida. I stand outside in the
clammy incalescence Florida weather dredging to go inside the enormous superstructure that
reads HOSPITAL in big red letters. My first impulse is to turn around and whisk back home, but
all I can hear is my mother s stern voice saying You need to this, this opportunity will look
amazing on your college application. I wiped my sweating hands on my dark blue jeans and with
all my pugnacity I walked through the scratching automatic doors. My... Show more content on

As the elevator doors open I immediately see colorful walls and the greenest carpet I have ever
seen. The nurse looked at me and smiled This is the pediatric floor, just keep following me. I
continued following the nurse down the hall and as I looked up I saw tiles on the ceiling with
different drawings on each one and different names. We reached two double doors that was
opened by a gray button the nurse pushed. As the double doors open children were revealed, they
were no older than ten years old and looked sick. It did not take me very long to notice tubes
covering their small bodies and as I looked up I saw each of the hairless heads. I gasped as I
realized they were cancer children and notice the yellowish colored chemotherapy drip through
their ivs to their fragile bodies. Immediately I think back to when I was seven years old in the
hospital everyday visiting my grandfather. Walking through those hospital doors seeing my grandpa
s hairless head and the pain he went through. I intensely remembered the grief my family went
through when he got cancer and as I look at these children I would not want them to go through
what my grandfather went through. I assume the nurse saw my facial expression and she said I
guess you didn t know you were going to working with cancer kids? I slowly shook my head but
the nurse just grinned Don t be too alarmed then may look sick and fragile, but that doesn t slow
them down. I have come to learn that

48. The Importance Of International Adoption
Imagine in a country far, far away there sits a little boy out on the streets with nothing but the
clothes on his back and a torn up blanket in his hand that attempts to keep him warm at night, yet
every time he tries to sleep he can t because he is cold, sad, and alone. He has no home and has
no family to look after him, love him, and take care of him. He needs a family and a home. He
needs someone to adopt him. Millions of kids in the world are alone and without parent, always
wandering around and constantly living in a state of fear from torture, abuse, war, and slavery.
These kids could have a home with a loving family to look after them and take care of them. This
is why all potential adoptive parents in the U.S. should be required to... Show more content on

International adoption is a life saving form of care for children who do not otherwise have families.
Yet, professionals and families find ourselves increasingly on the defensive from an unwarranted
amount of scrutiny and criticism, both abroad and in the United States (Spivack 1). There is so
much Bad media going around about international adoption portraying it as an evil system and
therefore scaring potential adopting parents from adopting internationally. For example, television
shows in the United States, show foreign press, and foreign politicians bombard the public with
stories of kidnapping, corruption, body part sales. When people see this they believe it and then
are scared to go and adopt from certain countries. By supporting international adoption you are
instilling a certain type of confidence that other people can see. This type of confidence radiates
off of you and encourages others to go and take the same risk even though the risk may be scary
and dangerous. Country adoption programs are closing everyday due to disproportionately negative
media, misinformation and ultimately tainted public perception of international adoption. The time
has come for adoption professionals and adoptive families to put an end to the propaganda and use
our collective power to correct public perception. Otherwise, international adoption could soon
become extinct, dooming millions of children around the world to childhoods languishing in
underfunded orphanages, or on the streets, with dim prospects for adulthood beyond drug
dependency, crime and prison (Spivack 2). Just remember that your actions are for a greater

Chrysanthemum loved her name. It was, as her parents put it, Absolutely perfect , but then she

journey of a young mouse named Chrysanthemum. It leaves readers of all ages with the
important and relevant message of don t let what others think get you down . Henkes executed
this theme throughout the book well with his use of imagery, figurative language, and diction. So
well in fact, that the morals of this story have stuck with me since I read the book myself when I
was very young. Chrysanthemum is teased in school because her name is too long, because it
scarcely fits on her name tag , and because she is named after a flower. She feels terrible even

Saahil Diddee Ms.Borchers ENH 110 October 2nd, 2017 Fear of One s Past Everyone has
obstacles he/she has to go through when growing up. Some situations are just much worse than
others. These tragic memories stick with the person for their lifetime. Victor Joseph in the
movie Smoke Signals is a great example of a man with a very dour childhood that includes many
hardships. Victor Joseph s journey in Smoke Signals highlights the universal theme on fear of
one s past. Firstly, the way Smoke Signals brings this theme alive throughout Victors Joseph s
journey. In the beginning, the movie displays the chaos of the house fire that happened. This is
the start of the disturbing memories victor has to deal with as a child. He also then has to deal
with his dad slapping his mother who then storms out of their lives for no reason. Victor Joseph
then grows up with these memories and questions and starts to fear knowing anything about it. He
and his mother become dolorous about the whole situation and ignore it until they get to know that
Arnold Joseph is dead. This moment brings back old memories of his father and how Smoke
Signals creates the flashbacks of his old times with his father. Smoke Signals also introduces Suzy
