Describe the Extent to Which Recent Reforms to Murder in...
Provocation was previously controlled under S2 of the homicide act 1957, the act stated where
a person kills or is party to a killing of another, he shall not be convicted of murder if he was
suffering from such abnormality of mind as substantially impaired his mental responsibility for
his acts and omissions in doing or being a party to the killing. The new defence S54 56 Coroners
and Justice Act 2009 replaced defence of Provocation S3 HomicideAct 1957; it came into force
October 2010.
There are three stages to proving loss of self control. Stage one is the defendant s actions (in doing
or being a party to a killing) must be down to the result of a loss of self control. There is no need

It must be set aside unless connects to incest or rape, this is to prevent use of the defence in

the context. Clinton had financial problems and his marriage was breaking down as a result of
this he was suicidal. His wife told him that she had slept with 5 different people and also said to
him it would be easier if he committed suicide. He attacked her with a piece of wood and strangled
her.
The third stage is a person of the defendant s age and sex with a normal degree of tolerance and
self restraint and in the circumstances of the defendant, might have reacted in the same or in a
similar way to the defendant. If age and sex is not relevant to the conduct then they do not need
to be considered. The normal person must be judged in the circumstances to which the defendant
was in, all characteristics are relevant other than those which stand on general capacity for
tolerance or self restraint for example being bad tempered. In Holley the defendant killed his
girlfriend with an axe. They both were alcoholics. She told him she had just had sex with another
man, he picked up the axe intending to leave the flat and chop wood, when his girlfriend said you
haven t got the guts he hit her with the axe. The defendant pleaded provocation however it was held

The Value Of Societal Order In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Societal order entails an organized structure of rules and practices in a society intended to
preserve the life and safety of its citizens. Individual freedom refers to the ability of an individual
to speak or behave as one pleases within the law without being discriminated or attacked for one s
words or actions. Under most circumstances, these two values of societal order and individual
freedom can co exist hand in hand without difficulty. However, sometimes a dilemma will arise
when these two values come into conflict, and one value must be chosen while the other is
sacrificed. We see this pattern many times over the course of history, even today. More often than
not, individual freedom is sacrificed to maintain societal order. Arthur Miller s The Crucible
illustrates this viewpoint by his example of the Salem witch trials of the late 17th... Show more

The witch trials began with the accusation of several girls for practicing witchcraft. During the
trial, they shift the blame of their actions onto witchcraft itself, or the witch archetype, claiming
that they were being controlled against their will. This creates a fear of witches in Salem,
inspiring the famed witch hunt. The sacrifice of the witches occurred to ensure the societal
order and the safety of the rest of the town, even if many who were accused of being witches
were actually innocent. Miller argues a valid point, that when one must choose between societal
order and freedom, it is the freedom of some individuals or groups that will usually be repressed.
This conflict and the sacrifice of personal freedom persists even in the 21st century, as we
continue to see similar cases in which groups of people have their freedom sacrificed for the sake
of societal

Aqualisa Quartz Essay
Aqualisa Quartz
What is the Quartz value proposition to Plumbers and to the Consumers?
The value proposition to the plumbers is the relative ease of installation that reduces the time by
up to 1.5 days over a standard shower installation. The Quartz design allows for less repeat trips to
fix problems at their own expense. Further, they can pass along the installation jobs to their
apprentices. This frees them up to make more money on larger jobs and also ameliorates the
shortage of plumbers in the UK.
For the consumers the Quartz offers a superior product to that of its ... Show more content on

2. Why is the Quartz not selling?
The Quartz sales are suffering for many reasons primarily due to positioning errors on the part of
the Aqualisa management. The market entry strategy is ill defined and lacks a clear direction.
They have failed to hone in on a target niche as well as to develop an effective product induction
strategy. This is further exacerbated by the lack of buy in on the part of their most important allies
in the sales processes the plumbers.
Furthermore, the enduring perception that electric showers are inherently faulty and inferior
products has continued to plague the shower industry en masse. The faulty electronics have
historically proven more costly to plumbers who must cough up their own money to cover repair
costs.
It s also clear Aqualisa hasn t done a good job in managing its product lifecyles to proactively to
stay ahead of its competitors. They continue to gain on the Aqualisa market share and are only 2
years behind Aqualisa and closing fast.
On the sales and marketing end, teams are focusing about 90% of their attention on existing
customers and not targeting new ones.
Brand awareness in the entire segment is very poor among consumers that often defer to plumbers
or developers to select the shower unit for their bathrooms.
The market entry strategy suffers because the cost is extremely high in the DIY market compared
to its own less expensive Gainsborough brand thus creating a conflict among

The Idea Of Jesus Dying For Sin
Is the idea of Jesus dying for sin barbaric or outmoded ? (Choose one.) Why or why not? I
disagree with the idea of Jesus dying for sin as being an outmoded concept. Throughout history,
we see over and over again of people giving up everything, including their lives, for the greater
good. A person dying for what they believe in is not outdated, but the actual act of dying in such a
horrific way, however, is barbaric in its nature. The entire crucifixion is one of many disgusting acts
that humanity has done to each other. I m taking the phrase outmoded to mean outdated and no
longer relevant to our world today. The phrase barbaric means to be exceedingly cruel, brutal, and
atrocious in its very nature. According to the Bible,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. 2 This sounds eerily like the type of
execution that Jesus endured. For him, there was no question of enduring that kind of pain in
order to save the people. Despite the question of Jesus truly being the Messiah, he fully believed
that he was sent to bring about the Kingdom of God and fulfill the covenant. Historically, the
time period that Jesus was sentence to a crucifixion was reserved for the serious criminals. Rick
Renner analyzed the facts surrounding the death of Jesus Christ. He stated Crucifixion was
indisputably one of the cruelest and most barbaric forms of punishment in the ancient world.
Flavius Josephus, the Jewish historian, described crucifixion as the most wretched of deaths. It
was viewed with such horror that in one of Seneca s letters to Lucilius, Seneca wrote that suicide
was preferable to crucifixion. Getting into some of the gory details, Jesus literally had a five
inch iron nail through each wrist into the wood of the crossbeam. Then he was hoisted up with a
rope that dropped into a groove creating even more pain in the hands and wrists. The weight of
his body caused his arms to pop out of their sockets. Then the feet were nailed down as well.
Slowly, all of his joints would dislocate. When he was finally too exhausted and could no longer

District 9 Essay
In 2005 Neil Blomkamp made a short film named Alice in Joburg, 4 years later he released the
movie District 9 based on the short. The director Neil Blomkamp has told reporters that District 9
was inspired by historical events when Cape Town was declared a whites only area and 60,000
people were forcibly removed (Newsweek, 2016). This theme of acceptance is carried throughout
the film via the narratives, soundtracks, and cinematography. The film District 9, shows how
acceptance is extremely versatile and fragile. This is accomplished through cinematography,
narrative, and the way that Neil Blomkamp has being able to symbolize Wikus Merwe as a very
likable and friendly person. District 9 uses film techniques frequently and efficiently to broadcast...

This is reflected by the wider community who for the last 20 years have put up with the aliens.
Now being hunted Wikus turns to the aliens for help, this completely changes how acceptance is
viewed in the movie. Neil adds onto the theme of acceptance with short scenes/clips from the
documentary style with audio dubbing over (in past tense) saying how everyone was sorry they
had shunned him out of their life s. On top of the audio, clips similar to TV news where shown
from the minority point of view dubbing him as a traitor and alien sympathiser.
Up until the time when Wikus goes to the aliens for help the constant cinematic documentary style
is very similar style around the world. The scenes are shot in a manner very similar to the filming
of refugees, this can be seen in the image below (figure 2) demonstrating the similar traits from the
real world and the film. High angles are used to show the immensity and scale of the refugees
/aliens, similarly low angels are used to show the insignificant and frailness of the occupants. These
sub noticeable cinematic effects add onto the theme of acceptance, showing how acceptance is

Analyzing Psychological Disorders: Understanding Schizophrenia and Biopsychological Case
Studies of Anxiety and Drug Abuse
Let us discuss and dive into the study of a disease called schizophrenia. We will be taking a look at
its symptoms, its causes, the areas of the brain it affects, its neural basis, and the appropriate drug
therapies for the disease. Having an informed understanding of the disease and what it entails is
crucial to making sure patients that suffer from schizophrenia receive the proper treatment and
care from their psychiatrists. Afterwards, we will also be looking at a couple of case studies
involving anxiety and drug abuse. As for now, our focus will be on the terrible disease of
schizophrenia.
PART A:
We shall begin with a bit of its history, as well as what schizophrenia actually consists of. The
word schizophrenia is less than one hundred years old, and means the splitting of psychic
functions. It affects only about one percent of the world s population, however those it does affect
are comprised of all races and cultures, and socio economic factors have no effect on who
developments schizophrenia. It typically has an onset of late adolescence to early adulthood.

Examples Of Social Class In Great Expectations
Social and Moral View of Victorian Society Through
The Great Expectations
Introduction:
This project is about the social and moral view of Victorian society through the author of many
acclaimed novels Charles Dickens s Great Expectations. Social view is basically relating to society
or its organization and moral is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior. Dickens
was not only the first great urban novelist in England, but also one of the most important social
commentators who used fiction effectively to criticize economic, social, and moral abuses in the
Victorian era. Dickens showed compassion and empathy towards the unguarded and disadvantaged
segments of English society, and contributed to several important social reforms. Dickens s deep ...

He used symbolism and imagery to show various social problems prevailing in society like class
discrimination. Social class determined the way or the manner in which a person was treated that
is according to his class and access to education .In The Great Expectations, a person s social
class shows the amount of education they had. It is important to perceive this relationship
between education and social class to distinctly understand the worth of social class. A person
like Joe who was a common blacksmith had no education at all. On the other side, Pip, in the
early days when he belonged to low class, had poor education at a small school. The school was
not one of the best schools, but it s all that the lower class had for them. The teacher spent more
time sleeping than teaching. Another example of how social class affects education is the
distinction of education between the two convicts. Magwitch, born poor and a low class had no
education at all while Compeyson who was born rich, a high class and a gentleman with an
excellent education. Education was a important factor in showing how Social class really greatly
determined people s lives. Though Social class too determined many other qualities but

In oligopoly market, each firm has substantial market power with high degree of
interdependence. The key for success in a oligopoly market is to gain more market share than
the competitors. Increasing the price can lead to loss of market share to the competitors, so in
the oligopoly market, if a firm decreases the price, the other firms will always follow, but if a
firm increase the price, the other firms will not follow. The demand curve is kinked. However,
lowering the price decreases the overall profit of the market thus, non price competition is most

Renaissance And Reformation Similarities

Renaissance:
People began to feel a consciousness of their past, they no longer settled for the status quo. As a
result, there was a desire to rediscover knowledge in various disciplines, and to expand on them.
The renaissance was a period of broadening knowledge. It was a time of rebirth in human
existence, a time of new discoveries. It was an era in which the feudal system declined, invention
and application of: paper, printing, the mariner s compass, and gunpowder began. The Renaissance

It set structures and the beliefs for the modern era we know today. A period in which the papal
authority was challenged and questioned.
Why is it important? The Protestant Reformation was a time period that changed Christianity.
During this era, the Pope was considered the ultimate authority and not the king. Life revolved
around the church. After the movement, kings became the ultimate source of power once again.
Without this change, the Catholic Church might still be in control today.
Who?
Martin Luther rejected several teachings and practices of the church. He believed that freedom
from sin didn t have to be bought. Luther proposed his discussion of the usefulness of the
indulgences in his 95 theses in 1517. In 1520, he refused to retract his writings by the commands
of Pope Leo X and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, at the Diet of Worms in 1521. He was
excommunicated by the pope and condemned as an outlaw by the emperor. John Calvin, the
founder of Calvinism, believed in absolute dominance of God in salvation of the human soul from
death and eternal sentence. He wrote many commentaries on most books in the Bible and created a
lot of controversy. Calvin helped reform the church in Geneva. His spent his final years promoting

is as the number of mobile user s increases, queueing delay is increasing in FiWi s Optical

The Apology Of Socrates In Book I Of The Republic
The Apology shows how other people perceive Socrates actions and how Socrates himself
perceives his actions; these different views are then evident in Book I of the Republic. The Greek
word apologia means defense. In The Apology of Socrates, Socrates is defending himself and his
actions because of the accusations against him corrupting the youth, atheism, and making the
weaker argument the stronger. As a philosopher, Socratesis dangerous to the city because of the
relationship between reason and revelation. Reason seeks to find why things are done in a certain
way, and if they are found to be done in an inadequate way, this inquisition calls into question the
authority who are over the city. People often think that their way of life and the good way of life is

However, Socrates asks if it is good to give back a madman a weapon he had loaned, because
while that fits Cephalus definition of justice, it is clear that no one could benefit from it. It is
because of Socrates innocently challenging important well respected men that was accused and put
on trial. Polemarchus takes on a similar definition of justice: justice is going good to friends and
harm to enemies (I, 332d). As a refutation to this, Socrates brings up the point that not every friend
is actually a good person and not every enemy is bad, which would be doing injustice to that person.
Disproving Polemarchus could be thought of as an example where Socrates is corrupting the youth
which leads to his being on trial. Thrasymachus argues that justice is the interest of the stronger.
When Thrasymachus makes this case, Socrates does not inquire but cross examines him, which
gives the impression that Socrates just wishes to put Thrasymachus out of business and does not
care about actually changing his mind. This also, presents another opportunity for Socrates to be
accused of corrupting the

How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report
Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient
Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their
kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is
needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the
cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on
the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane
allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower
concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be
met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules
cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... ,
n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to
quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The
equation for the percent change in weight is:
% change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100
This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given
experiment. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution had a higher concentration of water molecules than the potato itself. This causes
the water to move from the 0.0 M solution into the potato cells through osmosis. The water

Being Healthy Or Living A Healthy Lifestyle
Juicing for Health Corwin Hartman AHP 2150 Fortis College March 9, 2015 Introduction Being
healthy or living a healthy lifestyle is something that only 35% of Americans strive to achieve
during their lifetime. In this paper, juicing and the effects on the human body and what it can
do, both good and bad will be explored. The history and popularity of juicing as well as its
benefits will be discussed. History of Juicing There are a great number of juicing fads and
celebrity diets popping up, but it is actually an age old tradition of body cleansing. Juicing has
also gained the reputation of being the magic pill (per say) for feeling your best, promoting
weight loss and anti aging. It is known that certain nutrients and herbs can regulate blood glucose
levels, stop cravings and balance energy level (alternativemedicine.com). Some of the first
documented evidence of humans juicing for health benefits are from the Dead Sea scrolls dated
150 B.C. through 70 A.D. Juicing was described in the scrolls as pounded mash of pomegranate
and fig resulting in profound strength and subtle form. Many cultures have used plants and ground
up herbs applied both internally and externally to promote healthy remedies and benefits all over
the world. In parts of the country like Korea and Peru, juicing green juices became part of healing
rituals (thejuicingclub.com). Max Garson, a German scientist in the 1920 s developed a theory that
combined raw juices and a vegetarian diet which

The Rights Of Indigenous People
In 2008 Grassy Narrows came in the form of a 1,800 kilometer walk to Queens Park in Toronto

The three communities have declared halts on industrial activity occurring without their consent,
but the Province has refused to respect them and continues to issue industrial permits for logging

Mao Zedong Analysis
In order for a revolution to occur, it is essential to have a leader the revolutionaries can unite
under; a leader as persistent as Mao Zedong. Mao s birth into the peasant class taught him about
the rigid social structures of China at a young age, as he recognized the strife peasants endured
on a daily basis. He knew how they thought and emphasized with their thirst for equity in China s
rigid social society (Calkins). As Mao grew older, his recognition of the oppressed class allowed
him to develop an affinity towards the principles of MarxismLeninism, which were utilized in
restoring China to its original greatness (Zedong qtd in Lynch 4). Mao believed that the peasants
fury and desperation was powerful enough to spark a communist revolution, leading to equality
and justice in China (Lynch 3). The peasants who were mistreated for so long rose to the occasion
of Mao s advocating for their rights. His popularity and influence among the masses of China was
increased. Mao rose to power by 1949 through increased peasantry support, giving him the
authorization to change China into a communist country.
Prior to the Second Chinese Civil War, Mao gained the loyalty of the oppressed class through
presenting his ideology in a flattering fashion. Mao allowed his followers to know he recognized
their strife, and taught them the importance of confidence and violence in a revolution. He
brainwashed them with promises for a New China so they d believe he himself was

Team Building
What makes a team player? Some people have that characteristic naturally, while others prefer to
work solo. For those who do not like working in groups, may find themselves having no other
choice. Many organizations are gearing toward completing task in teams rather than individuals.
This may mean employees may be required to attend training seminars or workshops to show them
how to do this. Rewarding these individuals is essential for organizations to keep the team building

When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and
positive behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember
receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity
passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I
was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game
instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to
lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced
my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed
as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I
received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative
reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would
then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The
consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved
in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as
well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of Operant
Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class
McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. I remember our entire class studying
harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal
and being the highest scoring class all year for spelling tests. My father s positive reinforcement

Elizabeth of York was one of England s strongest and least popular monarchs. He was born at

and handsome, skilled in all manner of athletic games, but in later life he became coarse and fat.
When his elder brother, Arthur, died (1502), he became heir apparent. He succeeded his father on

In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the
Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government
of the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he
had opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the
title Defender of the Faith a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from
Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome
and the Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore
the king one child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death.
A few days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after
having given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German
princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he
saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wife and beheaded

We Real Cool Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis
We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion.
This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the
poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about
youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American
consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young
African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On
the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The
deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects
to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure
can take place whenever people gather and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject
to its effects and often experience it because of shared experiences or they share the same
perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an
individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to
belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something
immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the
subjects of the poem, The Pool Players. Seven at the

because if it says Jif on it, it will probably sell. Since J.M. Smucker has no factories overseas,
Skippy peanut butter outsells Jif in China and other countries. The development of overseas

A Transformation from Gracious to Malicious
Most people are kind at heart, but society s negative perceptions changes them. Mary Shelley s
novel, Frankenstein, portrays this concept. Frankenstein s monster treats humans kindly refuting
the stereotype that all monsters are evil. In this novel, the monster is kind towards mankind until
society criticizes him and turns him into a malicious creature. The monster that Frankensteincreates
has kind hearted morals, but because society harms him based on his hideous appearance. Because
of his treatment, he transforms into a murderous monster, pointing to the destructive power of
societal criticism.

place to hellish rage and gnashing of teeth...I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind

hatred , and vengeance to all mankind strongly portray his detestation towards all mankind. The
monster showed benevolence, kindness , and gentleness , but instead he receives a bad reaction

This applies massively to the monster himself (who is rejected instantly, by everybody, purely

(Stuprich 118) The monster s unfair fate illustrates the monster s appearance and how this
appearance leads to his demise. Everyone portrays a monster as an ugly, vicious creature. Because
of the monster s ugly appearance, society judges and shuns the monster, even though he is good
natured. People make mistaken judgments of others based upon appearance. They think they can
trust their senses, but this is not always correct. A bias equating ugly and evil turns people against

Framing Perspective Of Conflict
A typical conflict situation I have experienced would be when one party misunderstands the other
parties goals, motives, or attitudes about a given situation. The framing perspective states that
conflicts may be influenced by the way the conflict was initially framed. Also, the way a conflict is
framed may be affected by the interaction between the parties and frames may shift as the conflict
progresses (Folger, Poole, Stutman 89). Fractionation is a good way to break down conflicts into
smaller components, which can be dealt with more quickly and uncover possible umbrellas. An

The social identities could be related to race, religion, gender, or age. There are intergroup
differences, but in many cases, these differences are not the primary cause of the conflict between
the individuals. Communication plays a significant role in social categorization and identities. A
person may feel misunderstood, but it is imperative that they do not jump to the conclusion that
it is because they are a male or female, or based on their race. Everyone has different goals and
beliefs, and they cannot be determined by social identities. If an individual goes into a
conversation believing they will be misunderstood based on their gender or race, there is a strong
possibility that they will feel that way after the conversation. Even though an individual may not
appreciate why a person may feel misunderstood it is beneficial to communicate in a polite way
by acknowledging how the other party feels. If a person feels misunderstood, they should examine
why they feel that way. If their initial response is based on a social identity, they should reevaluate

During the last decade, our society has become based on the sole ability to move large amounts of

Computerization has influenced everyone s life in numerous ways. The natural evolution of

I am opposed to such content on the Internet and therefore am a firm believer in
Internet censorship. However, the question at hand is just how much censorship the government
impose. Because the Internet has become the largest source of information in the world, legislative
safeguards are indeed imminent. Explicit material is not readily available over the mail or
telephone and distribution of obscene material is illegal. Therefore, there is no reason this stuff
should go unimpeded across the Internet. Sure, there are some blocking devices, but they are no
substitute for well reasoned law. To counter this, the United States has set regulations to determine
what is categorized as obscenity and what is not.
By laws set previously by the government, obscene material should not be accessible through the
Internet. The problem society is now facing is that cyberspace is like a neighborhood without a

broke rules. During the British rule in India there was a salt tax, which made it very hard for the
people of china to buy salt, but it was illegal for them to make their own salt. Because Ghandi did
not think this tax was righteous, on. In 1930, March 12th, he and eighty other people walked in the

Mao used violence and killed many of the landlords so that the people of the countryside could
become more powerful economically, but Gandhi used peaceful protests and never wanted to use
violence or war against the British. (China in Revolution Video Dr. Sue Williams, China Guidance
Packet), (Gandhi the film), (China Guidance Packet), (India Guidance Packet). These are my
resources.
Second, to make each of their countries stronger politically, Ghandi and Mao generally treated
the people equally, and changed key parts of the old ways which gained each of them political
support. Gandhi, held peaceful protests, such as passbook burnings that he first created in South
Africa. Mao on the other hand, known for not being a great speaker reached out and gained
support by the things he did. He, gave his people better education, gave woman more rights, by
stopping the foot binding. Took out Confucianism and said that people could marry for love not
because the man wanted to marry a women or a marriage being arranged. Although they used
theses tactics in similar ways they were different in the ways that they lived. For example Mao gave
women rights, ironically however kept many young girls with him at home and slept with them,
and a more common phrase for the things that he did where his Friday night dances. Gandhi on the
other hand became celibate, which means that he would not have

the sister are heroes but I m going to tell you about only one. That sister is Minerva. Their is 3
great reasons why Minerva is a hero. Minerva stood up for Sinita by lying to El jefe. She also

Piaget Juice Observation Essay
Research report
By Christopher Brockwell
Abstract
The theory being tested was Piaget s Conservation experiment. It involved one participant, two
stools, a round table, a tablecloth, one tall tubular glass and two beaker glasses (both filled with
juice). The aim of this experiment was to test whether the participant could distinguish which out of
the two beakers (one tall and thin, the other short and rotund) contained the most juice.
In response to the question posed, the participant responded that the tall tubular glass contained the
most juice, even though both contained the same amount of juice. Piaget predicted a new logic
would enter the mind forming a new kind of intelligence. Research showed that unevenness instead

Donaldson argued that children form a model of the world by formulating hypotheses that help
anticipate events in the future on the basis of past experiences. The child therefore has expectations
about any scenario and their interpretation of the words they hear will be influenced by the
expectations they bring to the situation. (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011).
Vygotksy would state learning is not part of development, but only when properly organised
learning can result in mental development that sets in motion a variety of developmental processes
that would be impossible asides from learning. Therefore learning is a vital part and universal
feature for the process of developing culturally organised, and in particular human, psychological
functions. (Cole, John Steiner, Scribner, Souberman, 1978).
Much of Piaget s early work involved the clinical method children being asked questions in a
somewhat unstructured way, the onus being to establish whether they understood different
problems. This approach was criticised for being unscientific, with Piaget and his fellow workers
eventually being more precise in their experiments. It was agreed however that Piaget posed
problems in a way that young children found difficult to comprehend. (Eysenck,

Craig Martin On Jainism
Craig Martin stated, The world is not just there for us to find and discover rather, we make the
world what it is through our use of language. (21). This further expands on the notion that human
beings are the makers of social constructs and social roles; we make these categories that we place
ourselves and others in to give each other a sense of identity. Human beings like to be in control of
their world and everything in it. Anything that tries to disrupt that or is outside of their control
brings a sense of chaos.
In the words of Craig Martin, a meritocracy is defined as a society in which people get what they
earn, deserve or merit (72). Religions area generally known to be fair and peaceful for all to be

Aidan Rankin a researcher wrote a book titled Jainism and ethical finance drawing global
awareness to the culture of Jainism and it s ability to sustain those that practice it for years. The
article stated, Jains make one of the largest per capita communities of accountants, financiers
and entrepreneurs in the world yet they operate quietly and simply, that is why they remain
unnoticed. Finance has been in their DNA for centuries. This further expatiates on when the
short video classified Jains as prosperous merchants in India. This raises some ethical questions
on how Jains have been able to be prosperous without any support of violence in their careers.
Jainism seems to be a religion that can only be realistic in India because it is recognized as a
major religion there and they have lived there for so long they have been able to build a
community that supports and encourages their practices culturally and environmentally. A
question that may be raised is what is the definition of prosperity, is it defined my money, which
is made from paper that comes from trees? Also the fact that a book also made from several trees
was written to support and maybe convert those that read it into the practice is a bit ironic. The
last ethical issue that what could the Jain merchants possibly be selling that is a result of non
violence of any animal or plants that can bring about so much prosperity that it is news worthy.
Jainism seems to a very

Deaf Culture Research Paper
I have always been very interested in the Deaf community and their culture. Some people think
there is no culture different form everyone else with deaf people. I have had the opportunity to

and experience how sign language and children experience with the community around them. I
chose the Deaf Culturebecause I have always been interested in the Deaf culture after my
daughter was on the edge of losing her hearing. I started to learn about it a little from other

cultures. Deaf individuals come from diverse backgrounds. Deaf culture focuses on the
stimulation of the eyes and the enhanced visual perceptiveness of Deaf individuals. This has

tradition of storytelling has allowed members of the Deaf community to pass down the histories of
great Deaf men and women, providing for Deaf children access to role models that enable them to

Labour Party Comparison
In recent years, the similarities between the main parties, Labour and the Conservatives, have
increased in comparison to the differences between them. Traditionally, the parties were dissimilar
in ideology and policy, however now they are much more similar, but differ in the way in which
they want to implement their policies. Also, whilst both parties are somewhat internally divided,
the Conservatives are more so than Labour in terms of the issue due to Brexit. Brexit continues to
provide divisions within the Conservative party. Furthermore, the parties share few similarities in
the way they elect their leader and form policies, with the Labour partybeing significantly more
democratic than the Conservatives.

Introduction
Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other
health related illnesses in the developed world. But there is a new emergence of electronic
cigarettes, which can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a
regular tobacco cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma,
some people approve the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In the
other hand there is people with negative views on the use of an e cigarette as an alternative to a
regular tobacco cigarette. My research will target a specific population, college students and their
point of view on the use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at
CSUSB perceptions of the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more
susceptible to use electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Goals
In my research, I want to find out if perception plays a role in decision making. In this case I want
to know if college student perceptions of electronic cigarettes at CSUSB impacts their decision
making. For example, a student who believes e cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes
is more likely to use electronic cigarettes. In the other hand, a student who believes e cigarettes are
more harmful

A Proposal to Stop the Poaching of the Siberian Tiger
One of the world s most beautiful creatures, the Siberian tiger, has been roaming earth for many
years. The Siberian tiger subspecies has been subjected to many obstacles, which make it very
difficult for it to survive. Their main threat is not lack of food, but man, one of God s most fierce
and cruel species. Because of man the tiger population has reduced to approximately 400 in the
wild, and restricted their remaining habitat to the Russian Far East (Field Projects). Man has done
many things to destroy the Russian Siberian tiger. They have cut down forests and moved in on the
tiger s territory, causing them to flee and become fragmented throughout Siberia making it hard for

The Amba organization says, their rangers know the environmental legislation, and are trained in
the use of firearms and can handle criminals (Field Projects). Amba rangers try to stop poaching
by searching vehicles on secluded forest roads and looking for firearms, animals, or any other
item that may be suspicious. This project of anti poaching teams has proven to be successful, but it
only stops some of the poachers. Until they stop the main cause of poaching, which is trade, the
killing will still go on (Field Projects).
Poachers know they will always make money on tiger derivatives, because of Traditional
Chinese Medicine. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade
monitoring program of WWF, are trying to find ways to discourage the use of tiger parts for
medicinal purposes and encourage the use of effective substitutes. TRAFFIC has significantly
extended its operation in Asia and Russia. According to researchers, Russia has become the biggest
supplier of Traditional Chinese Medicine trade and exports (Field Projects). TRAFFIC
investigations have led to numerous seizures such as, tiger bones and skins, the arrest of an
important smuggling gang, and the uncovering of illicit trade routes between India, Nepal, Bhutan,
and East Asia (Field Reports). WWF is also campaigning for strengthened national legislation to

Invictus Essay
This poems main theme is essentially choice The poem depicts the narrator suffering with
something,(after a bit of research, it turns out the narrator was struggling with recovery, from
tuberculosis, that he had contacted in childhood. ) Despite suffering, and being scarred, the narrator
chooses to face his ailment head on. First, looking at the title of the poem, Invictus, this is a Latin
word, that translates to undefeated in English. The whole theme of being undefeated grows more
apparent throughout the entire poem. The first stanza, reads as very dark. The darkness isn t literal,
and its not necessarily even night time, its more of a metaphor for the how gloomy and dejected
the narrators circumstances are. In a way the narrator prays to some sort of higher power, however
instead of praying to be given strength, or even to be cured, the narrator thanks the Gods for the
strength, and perseverance, that he already possesses, he thanks them for his unconquerable soul. ...

ailment, by The bludgeons of chance. Within this stanza there is also some alliteration which can

Persuasive Letter To Macbeth
Dear Thane of Cawdor, I forsake you and your cruel intentions as a traitor to the crown. Your
actions correlate with treason and must be held accountable in a court of law. Moreover, You must
reveal your wrongdoing and take responsibility for your bloodthirsty ambition. As vile as your
heart s aspiration is, betraying your own people is an unacceptable method to achieve success. How
could you slaughter the very man who dines in your castle and promotes you? Wisdom often tends
to distinguish men with hopeful determination from fools with fallacious ambition. Shall I declare
you a fool? Nevertheless, Macbeth, admit your exploits to the people and accept your punishment.
Destiny is never guaranteed, and fate cannot justify senseless actions.

Rape In The Military
As sexual violence has been and probably still is present in the US, there are a high number of
rape cases going unreported, as indicated in the The Invisible War documentary. It is surprising to
view that men were also victims of rape in the military. There is a great percentage of women
victims of rapein the military, and they are unable to obtain justice for enduring such an act of
violence. Men, victims of rape just like women are somewhat in the same predicament of not
wanting to make a report as a risk of being judged of being homosexual.
The legislation I chose to use for this discussion is Military Sexual Assault Prevention Act of 2013.
This legislation caught my attention on a statement in the legislation: Prohibits any person

Jalen Life Insurance
Life insurance plays a critical role in an individual s estate planning. One of the main reasons for
this is to create liquidity or cash flow. Traditionally, assets in an estate are non liquid assets such
as business interests or personal property, including real estate. At the time of death, expenses and
estate taxes, can be overwhelming for heirs to find the cash to pay. If this is the case, then the
estate assets must be either sold or used as collateral in taking out a loan to pay the taxes. Another
factor is that estate taxes must be paid within a certain time frame, typically 6 9 months after the
estate payout. (IRS, IRS.gov, 2015)
Careful planning must be done in using life insurance to pay for estate taxes. Ownership of the

continues to contribute each year. Once Jalen reaches the age of 21, the account has now reached
$50,000 balance with growth earnings. Jalen is not finished with college, but decides he wants to
gain control of the money right now to travel and has legal rights to the trust money. (CODE)
Glenn is concerned about him having control of the money. Without coercing him, Glenn explains
to Jalen the lesson of the compound effect and that exercising his rights to take the money out will
change the terms of the trust, resulting in tax consequences for both parties. In addition to that,
Glenn would no longer be making contributions. Jalen takes thirty days to think about this. After
thirty days, Jalen decides to leave the money in the account. Because Jalen chose not to exercise
his right to the money during the stated window of thirty days after age 21, the trust is converted
to a Crummey Trust for Jalen. The Crummey Trust satisfies the requirements: all income and
principal be distributed to the beneficiary at age 21 and all income will be distributed currently. It
also meets the four factors the IRS uses in determining whether a beneficiary s withdrawal right

The relationship and interaction between XML and databases
ECET610 UMUC
Abstract
This paper will explore the relationship between XML and databases and the way that they can be
leveraged to provide data exchange on the internet. As XML gains popularity as the format for
exchanging information via the internet and has become the language of choice for use in database
development for Internet use.Introduction
XML is a universal data standard and thereby does not need to be translated for use in different
database systems. This is very important with large corporate data systems. In companies that have
web presence this is a vital concern where some of the data base systems are handled by external
companies that use an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This presents a scalability problem in that when the system contains a few thousand documents the
performance tends to degrade and become a management issue. Synchronization is also a problem
between the non database code and the database. If changes are made to the database structure the
XML pointers need to be updated as well and the system is not very portable.
The XML mapping style of data storage is used by web sites that map user inputs into XML
schema that manages the storage and retrieval of the data as shown in the example Figure 1. This
is an effective method when the existing data is in XML format.
Using XML to simplify processes
The flexibility of XML has made it the standard for the formatting and sharing of data via the web.
XML data is easily transferable across machines and applications and is not constrained by the
operating system of the host machine. This ease of translation enables XML to be transformed into
non XML formats for use with databases and their associated applications.
An XML database is a database that stores the data fields in XML format. This allows for cross
platform transferability and web page presentation. A web application is typically done in three
layers the back office code in Java or a

Helping the Housing Industry Essays
Helping the Housing Industry In the current state of the economy, one thing is sure to either help
it bounce back or keep it in the basement, and that is the housing industry. It is very hard to drive
anywhere and not see a for sale sign or two sitting in front yards. People have lost jobs or been cut
back, and therefore driven out of their homes they once loved for something cheaper that they can
afford. Not only did this hurt each individual family, it hurt the economy as a whole. People who
still have their houses and can afford them are losing money on them because the value of their
houses has dropped due to the other houses in their neighborhood sitting empty. There are many
different ways that could possibly help this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem with stopping the building of new houses would be that a lot of companies,
businesses, cities, states, etc., have all ready budgeted the money for these housing projects.
They set aside money years ago in preparation for these projects and have them locked into a
commitment to do these houses. My solution for both is the same, put everything into the old
houses. I understand that legal contracts may have been built up, and since I am not a lawyer, I
am not going to pretend that I know that there is a way to get out of them or anything along
those lines, but at least try. You also can not stop building where you have all ready broke
ground. But, for those that may not have the contracts solidified yet, or have not broke ground,
but have the money budgeted for the project, the solution is simple, change where that money
goes. Budgets are changed all the time. I am a teacher and our budgets have been changed
plenty in the past year along with our salaries, so I know it can be done. Take that money and put
it into the houses that all ready exist. A lot of people are vandalizing and destroying these
properties. Some destroy them while they are moving out because they are frustrated that they
have been foreclosed on. Others are houses that have been destroyed by locals who see these
houses as another open place to graffiti, break things, or steal stuff from. Most of those who left the
houses also did

opinions that individuals may have about policeand police brutality. But is the government really
doing enough to find the truth about what really happens in situations that involve police brutality
and the abuse that may happen to a law enforcement agent? The government is putting in enough
time in order to find the truth out about the deaths of law enforcement agents and innocent civilians
that didn t do anything wrong in a violent situations. The government is also informing the public
on what happened in the situations and they are trying to get the community more educated and
involved in the violent instances.
The United States federal government is demanding a reform of police in the country. Everyone in

Provocation was previously controlled under S2 of the homicide act 1957, the act stated where a person kills or is party to a killing of another, he shall not be convicted of murder if he was suffering from such abnormality of mind as substantially impaired his mental responsibility for his acts and omissions in doing or being a party to the killing. The new defence S54 56 Coroners and Justice Act 2009 replaced defence of Provocation S3 HomicideAct 1957; it came into force October 2010. There are three stages to proving loss of self control. Stage one is the defendant s actions (in doing or being a party to a killing) must be down to the result of a loss of self control. There is no need for loss of self control to be sudden however ... But in R v Clinton 2010 sexual infidelity could be taken into account as part of the context. Clinton had financial problems and his marriage was breaking down as a result of this he was suicidal. His wife told him that she had slept with 5 different people and also said to him it would be easier if he committed suicide. He attacked her with a piece of wood and strangled her. The third stage is a person of the defendant s age and sex with a normal degree of tolerance and self restraint and in the circumstances of the defendant, might have reacted in the same or in a similar way to the defendant. If age and sex is not relevant to the conduct then they do not need to be considered. The normal person must be judged in the circumstances to which the defendant was in, all characteristics are relevant other than those which stand on general capacity for tolerance or self restraint for example being bad tempered. In Holley the defendant killed his girlfriend with an axe. They both were alcoholics. • 3. The Value Of Societal Order In The Crucible By Arthur Miller Societal order entails an organized structure of rules and practices in a society intended to preserve the life and safety of its citizens. Individual freedom refers to the ability of an individual to speak or behave as one pleases within the law without being discriminated or attacked for one s words or actions. Under most circumstances, these two values of societal order and individual freedom can co exist hand in hand without difficulty. However, sometimes a dilemma will arise when these two values come into conflict, and one value must be chosen while the other is sacrificed. We see this pattern many times over the course of history, even today. More often than not, individual freedom is sacrificed to maintain societal order. Arthur Miller s The Crucible illustrates this viewpoint by his example of the Salem witch trials of the late 17th... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The witch trials began with the accusation of several girls for practicing witchcraft. During the trial, they shift the blame of their actions onto witchcraft itself, or the witch archetype, claiming that they were being controlled against their will. This creates a fear of witches in Salem, inspiring the famed witch hunt. The sacrifice of the witches occurred to ensure the societal order and the safety of the rest of the town, even if many who were accused of being witches were actually innocent. Miller argues a valid point, that when one must choose between societal order and freedom, it is the freedom of some individuals or groups that will usually be repressed. This conflict and the sacrifice of personal freedom persists even in the 21st century, as we continue to see similar cases in which groups of people have their freedom sacrificed for the sake of societal ... • 4. Aqualisa Quartz Essay Aqualisa Quartz What is the Quartz value proposition to Plumbers and to the Consumers? The value proposition to the plumbers is the relative ease of installation that reduces the time by up to 1.5 days over a standard shower installation. The Quartz design allows for less repeat trips to fix problems at their own expense. Further, they can pass along the installation jobs to their apprentices. This frees them up to make more money on larger jobs and also ameliorates the shortage of plumbers in the UK. For the consumers the Quartz offers a superior product to that of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2. Why is the Quartz not selling? The Quartz sales are suffering for many reasons primarily due to positioning errors on the part of the Aqualisa management. The market entry strategy is ill defined and lacks a clear direction. They have failed to hone in on a target niche as well as to develop an effective product induction strategy. This is further exacerbated by the lack of buy in on the part of their most important allies in the sales processes the plumbers. Furthermore, the enduring perception that electric showers are inherently faulty and inferior products has continued to plague the shower industry en masse. The faulty electronics have historically proven more costly to plumbers who must cough up their own money to cover repair costs. It s also clear Aqualisa hasn t done a good job in managing its product lifecyles to proactively to stay ahead of its competitors. They continue to gain on the Aqualisa market share and are only 2 years behind Aqualisa and closing fast. On the sales and marketing end, teams are focusing about 90% of their attention on existing customers and not targeting new ones. Brand awareness in the entire segment is very poor among consumers that often defer to plumbers or developers to select the shower unit for their bathrooms. The market entry strategy suffers because the cost is extremely high in the DIY market compared to its own less expensive Gainsborough brand thus creating a conflict among ... • 5. The Idea Of Jesus Dying For Sin Is the idea of Jesus dying for sin barbaric or outmoded ? (Choose one.) Why or why not? I disagree with the idea of Jesus dying for sin as being an outmoded concept. Throughout history, we see over and over again of people giving up everything, including their lives, for the greater good. A person dying for what they believe in is not outdated, but the actual act of dying in such a horrific way, however, is barbaric in its nature. The entire crucifixion is one of many disgusting acts that humanity has done to each other. I m taking the phrase outmoded to mean outdated and no longer relevant to our world today. The phrase barbaric means to be exceedingly cruel, brutal, and atrocious in its very nature. According to the Bible,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. 2 This sounds eerily like the type of execution that Jesus endured. For him, there was no question of enduring that kind of pain in order to save the people. Despite the question of Jesus truly being the Messiah, he fully believed that he was sent to bring about the Kingdom of God and fulfill the covenant. Historically, the time period that Jesus was sentence to a crucifixion was reserved for the serious criminals. Rick Renner analyzed the facts surrounding the death of Jesus Christ. He stated Crucifixion was indisputably one of the cruelest and most barbaric forms of punishment in the ancient world. Flavius Josephus, the Jewish historian, described crucifixion as the most wretched of deaths. It was viewed with such horror that in one of Seneca s letters to Lucilius, Seneca wrote that suicide was preferable to crucifixion. Getting into some of the gory details, Jesus literally had a five inch iron nail through each wrist into the wood of the crossbeam. Then he was hoisted up with a rope that dropped into a groove creating even more pain in the hands and wrists. The weight of his body caused his arms to pop out of their sockets. Then the feet were nailed down as well. Slowly, all of his joints would dislocate. When he was finally too exhausted and could no longer push himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The director Neil Blomkamp has told reporters that District 9 was inspired by historical events when Cape Town was declared a whites only area and 60,000 people were forcibly removed (Newsweek, 2016). This theme of acceptance is carried throughout the film via the narratives, soundtracks, and cinematography. The film District 9, shows how acceptance is extremely versatile and fragile. Examples Of Social Class In Great Expectations Social and Moral View of Victorian Society Through The Great Expectations Introduction: This project is about the social and moral view of Victorian society through the author of many acclaimed novels Charles Dickens s Great Expectations. Social view is basically relating to society or its organization and moral is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior. Dickens was not only the first great urban novelist in England, but also one of the most important social commentators who used fiction effectively to criticize economic, social, and moral abuses in the Victorian era. Social class determined the way or the manner in which a person was treated that is according to his class and access to education .In The Great Expectations, a person s social class shows the amount of education they had. It is important to perceive this relationship between education and social class to distinctly understand the worth of social class. A person like Joe who was a common blacksmith had no education at all. On the other side, Pip, in the early days when he belonged to low class, had poor education at a small school. The school was not one of the best schools, but it s all that the lower class had for them. The teacher spent more time sleeping than teaching. Another example of how social class affects education is the distinction of education between the two convicts. Magwitch, born poor and a low class had no education at all while Compeyson who was born rich, a high class and a gentleman with an excellent education. Education was a important factor in showing how Social class really greatly determined people s lives. Though Social class too determined many other qualities but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Apology of Socrates, Socrates is defending himself and his actions because of the accusations against him corrupting the youth, atheism, and making the weaker argument the stronger. As a philosopher, Socratesis dangerous to the city because of the relationship between reason and revelation. Reason seeks to find why things are done in a certain way, and if they are found to be done in an inadequate way, this inquisition calls into question the authority who are over the city. People often think that their way of life and the good way of life is the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Socrates asks if it is good to give back a madman a weapon he had loaned, because while that fits Cephalus definition of justice, it is clear that no one could benefit from it. It is because of Socrates innocently challenging important well respected men that was accused and put on trial. Polemarchus takes on a similar definition of justice: justice is going good to friends and harm to enemies (I, 332d). As a refutation to this, Socrates brings up the point that not every friend is actually a good person and not every enemy is bad, which would be doing injustice to that person. Disproving Polemarchus could be thought of as an example where Socrates is corrupting the youth which leads to his being on trial. Thrasymachus argues that justice is the interest of the stronger. When Thrasymachus makes this case, Socrates does not inquire but cross examines him, which gives the impression that Socrates just wishes to put Thrasymachus out of business and does not care about actually changing his mind. This also, presents another opportunity for Socrates to be accused of corrupting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. How Molecules Move Across The Gradient Lab Report Trying to Diffuse the Tension: How Molecules Move Across A Gradient Introduction Diffusion is defined as the, process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of random motion. (Nave, n.d.). By random motion, it means that no energy input is needed for the molecules to move across the gradient. In the example of potassium iodide and the cornstarch, the potassium iodide moved across the gradient which caused the cornstarch to take on the purplish color. Osmosis is the diffusion within water in which a semi permeable membrane allows for a higher concentration solution to diffuse across said membrane into the lower concentration solution. Osmosis drives most biological processes allowing for equilibrium to be met and the transportation of molecules to occur (Nave, n.d.). However, larger biological molecules cannot pass through semipermeable membranes such as sucrose and starch ( GCSE Biology... , n.d.). Within this experiment, the percent change of weight must be calculated to be able to quantitatively define the concentration movement of the molecules across the gradient. The equation for the percent change in weight is: % change in weight = [(change in weight)/(initial weight)] * 100 This equation allows for one to be able to identify if the change in weight is significant to a given experiment. In operant conditioning a variety of these types of reinforcements can be used to shape and condition a subject to behave in a specific way. When I was in grade school I had teachers that would reward students for good grades and positive behavior thus making it more likely for us to work hard to do better. I remember receiving candy, a material reinforcer, recess extensions, an activity reinforcer, and even activity passes, an activity reinforcer, for doing well. If I proved to know the content well enough, then I was allowed to skip an activity in class to do something more fun such as a craft or a game instead. Or sometimes, those who did exceptionally well on a quiz would be allowed to go to lunch early which also meant a longer recess. These incentives to do well positively reinforced my work ethic so that I was studying more and working harder to achieve good grades. I noticed as I went through school that my work ethic strengthened the more positive reinforcement I received. If I began to slip, and my effort level decreased then I would receive negative reinforcement from my teachers in the form of a bad grade, a secondary reinforcer. This would then signal me to work harder so that I would not receive the same low grade as before. The consequences I encountered from both working hard and slacking off shaped the way I behaved in school. When offered incentives to do well and negative consequences for not performing as well, I was induced to work hard and get good grades. One particular example of Operant Conditioning I remember from my early education was when my father promised my class McDonalds lunch if all of us got 100% on our spelling test. I remember our entire class studying harder than we had before to achieve a perfect score on our test. We ended up making our goal and being the highest scoring class all year for spelling tests. • 28. We Real Cool Gwendolyn Brooks Analysis We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a fervent short poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure can take place whenever people gather and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject to its effects and often experience it because of shared experiences or they share the same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the subjects of the poem, The Pool Players. Seven at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1963, the producer of the soon to be hit group The Beatles, George Martin had given advice to Brian Epstein to find a new and reliable publisher seeing as EMI was doing absolutely nothing to promote the single Love Me Do . Government Intervention On The Internet Essay Government Intervention on the Internet During the last decade, our society has become based on the sole ability to move large amounts of information across great distances quickly. Computerization has influenced everyone s life in numerous ways. The natural evolution of computer technology and this need for ultra fast communications has caused a global network of interconnected computers to develop. This global network allows a person to send E mail across the world in mere fractions of a second, and allows a common person to access wealths of information worldwide. I am opposed to such content on the Internet and therefore am a firm believer in Internet censorship. However, the question at hand is just how much censorship the government impose. Because the Internet has become the largest source of information in the world, legislative safeguards are indeed imminent. Explicit material is not readily available over the mail or telephone and distribution of obscene material is illegal. Therefore, there is no reason this stuff should go unimpeded across the Internet. Sure, there are some blocking devices, but they are no substitute for well reasoned law. To counter this, the United States has set regulations to determine what is categorized as obscenity and what is not. By laws set previously by the government, obscene material should not be accessible through the Internet. The problem society is now facing is that cyberspace is like a neighborhood without a police department. quot;Outlaws quot; are now able to use powerful cryptography to send and receive uncrackable communications across the Internet. Devices set up to filter certain communications cannot filter that which cannot be read, which leads to my other topic of interest: data encryption. Although they both wanted very similar things to happen to their countries, they used very different tactics. The main points in their rules where economical, political and social. And all points affected their people in many ways. First, to make each of their countries stronger economically Ghandi and Mao changed laws and broke rules. During the British rule in India there was a salt tax, which made it very hard for the people of china to buy salt, but it was illegal for them to make their own salt. It involved one participant, two stools, a round table, a tablecloth, one tall tubular glass and two beaker glasses (both filled with juice). The aim of this experiment was to test whether the participant could distinguish which out of the two beakers (one tall and thin, the other short and rotund) contained the most juice. In response to the question posed, the participant responded that the tall tubular glass contained the most juice, even though both contained the same amount of juice. Human beings like to be in control of their world and everything in it. Anything that tries to disrupt that or is outside of their control brings a sense of chaos.
