What Is The Categorical Imperative
Immanuel Kant s seminal work, the Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals and its subsequent On a
Supposed Right to Lie because of Philanthropic Concerns , ushered in a new era of critical thinking on
morality and will through his development of the categorical imperative. However, his thoughts
behind the categorical imperative that is, that all moral concepts and thus the categorical imperative
comes a priori in reason (Kant 22) are flawed in the belief of reason existing at all. That is to say that
Kant s attempted proof to show that morals come a priori in reason is flawed in the assumption that
humans can reason at all. As well, his attempt to show the categorical imperative in action (through his
example of lying) is also flawed and essentially unable to be proved through the demonstration of the
first point. Finally, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immanuel Kant s categorical imperative states, Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at

Best Publicity Rights And Lanham Act
1. Best Publicity Rights and Lanham Act Claims for Tripper against Topcat and AND1.
Topcat s My Trip with Tripper violates Woody s right of publicity and the Lanham Act, because
Topcat is using Tripper s plaintiff s character and likeness for Topcat s purely commercial purposes
without consent, and he is using Tripper s trademark in ways that imply Tripper s endorsement of
Topcat s poster. Thus, Tripper should be afforded a permanent restraining order to prevent Tripper and
AND1 from selling the poster, and he should additionally be awarded the monetary damages for the
losses from the inability to secure other endorsement deals and a poster agreement with Panini due to

Id; See Abdul Jabbar v. Gen. Motors Corp.; Eastwood v. Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Here,
Tripper clearly represents a famous athlete due to his winnings, signature trappings, and his social
media presence during the NCAA incident and after that. Furthermore, Topcat s sale of the posters to
AND1, as well as, dissemination of posters along with Tripper s shoes indicates that Topcat s primary
purpose is to commercialize Tripper s image for his own gain. Tripper should also assert a policy
argument stating that he needs to be afforded protection against false suggestions of endorsement or
sponsorship because it is imperative for athletes, such as himself, to protect their valuable existing and
potential contracts to prevent the brands from dropping out of the contracts with the athletes due to
their tarnished or diluted image and likeness. See RPA at 127; and class discussion about Michael
Jordan litigating abroad to protect his signature shoes. Similarly to Michael Jordan, Tripper has a
signature shoe and has a signature style on the court that contributes to his likeness and image in the
eyes of consumers. Furthermore, the indefinite halt of his potential poster contract with Panini
signifies that Topcat s posters prevent Tripper from entering into a legitimate contract with Panini.
Moreover, the other companies retracted from offering Tripper endorsement

Essay about Annie Proulx s Brokeback Mountain
Michael Warner states in his book The Trouble with Normal that the [American] culture has thousands
of ways for people to govern the sex of others, that a certain regulation of sexuality and desire can be
designed directly, through prohibition and regulation, and indirectly, by embracing one identity or one
set of tastes as though they were universally shared, or should be (Warner 1). According to Warner, the
logical process that follows such a regulation ensures a certain shame attaches to any taste that is not
universally shared. That this one taste should be shared implies that it is not universal. The taste that
must be converted in order to achieve a universal desire is, then, naturally marked with a stigmatized

To embrace shame is to leave the hierarchies of power, placement and governance.
Proulx tells the story of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, two male cowboys in mid western America
who meet as teenagers on a Farm and Ranch Employment (Proulx 256) operation on Brokeback
Mountain in Wyoming. That summer, herding sheep on the mountain, the two men form a romantic
relationship of sorts, one that lasts for the next twenty years of their lives and is anything but
unproblematic.
While telling the story of the men s experience of love and sex on Brokeback Mountain, Proulx litters
images of markedness on the situation, blemishing the relationship between Ennis and Jack. In fact,
the name recognition of the characters alone embodies a rather informative degree of stigma. To name
a character Jack Twist is to create an entity beginning normally it starts with the very common, run of
the mill name Jack. To end that name with Twist is to directly change or mark the commonness and
normality that initiates the entity, with strong imagery of actual twisting and distorting. Too, Ennis Del
Mar (meaning, in Spanish, island of the sea ) is to create the image of a colored piece in the midst of a
constant, consistent blue form. In other words, Ennis Del Mar, like an island in the sea, creates a
blemish or mark.
The inconsistencies only begin in the names, however, for the two men are, physically in and of
themselves, stand outs. Ennis, with the ragged

Key to Success in Life
Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students
Solomon Ortiz
Do you agree with this quotation? Thai society believes that education is the key to make them or their
child success in their life. It s true but not totally true. Education is one part of successful. It s not the
whole thing to make us success.
Most of Thai parents will support or coerce their child to study in famous school such as Triam Udom
Suksa School, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School and Satriwitaya School
which they trust that this academic can make their child smarter than other students and they will have
more chance to achieve in admission. Another belief of them is encouraging their child to study in top
three private universities in Thailand as Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University and
Kasertsart University because it can lead student to find better career so they will have greater future
than student who graduate from public university.
Moreover, most of us believe that the higher education degree you have the greater accomplishment
you will. However, it has someone who doesn t have a chance to study in university because they are
poor so they need to work so hard to find money to stay alive.
As I mention at first that education is not the whole thing to make our life success. Why? Because
some of achievement people don t graduate from private university and some of them have the highest
education level

The Worst Economic Depression Ever Felt Theu.s. Essay
The worst economic depression ever felt in U.S. history was not only felt in north America, but this
also became a worldwide economic slump. The Great Depression caused by many factors raised a
question of how will the we take a step into recovery. The Election of president Franklin D. Roosevelt
in 1932 was the beginning of the shaping of the U.S. government interaction with American citizens.
Roosevelts campaign helped him win the election of 1932 with his laudable ideas of how to combat
the effects of the depression. These Ideas were a set of programs intended to fix the depression and
prevent future depressions as they were categorized by their function of relief, recovery, and reform.
Although these programs from the New Deal didn t end the depression they did help the U.S. towards
economic progress, the program with the most significant impact on the U.S. economy would be the
Social Security Act.
During and after WWI the U.S. was the main creditor to many countries and provider of several goods
in Europe. While European countries suffered the U.S. prospered from the war as their economic
stasis grew. The stock market being one of the biggest influence to get regular Americans to invest in
the stock market had its downfall as many borrowed heavily in order to invest, it soon reached its
highest peak and began its decline in 1929. It was advertised as a quick way to make big bucks. The
day that we know today as black Tuesday was what ushered the collapse of the American

Dracula Summary Chapter 14
During chapter 14 of the novel Dracula we see one of our protagonists, Jonathan Harker, travel to
London with his wife, Mina Harker, where they plan to group up with the group of people working to
put an end to Count Dracula, including Dr.Van Helsing and Dr.Seward. As Mr.Harker recovers from
his nervous breakdown from the previous chapter which was brought about when he caught sight of a
man who resembled Dracula Dr.Van Helsing reassures Mr.Harker. After reading through Mr.Harker s
journal Dr.Van Helsing determines that everything Mr.Harker had experienced was real. From that
point onward all of the trauma and fear Jonathan Harker had experienced after being Dracula s
prisoner was erased. In fact, Mr.Harker goes on to write about how eager he is to help in putting an
end to the vampire s reign of terror when he is asked to help Dr.Van Helsing, Then I am with you heart

Rappaccini s Daughter Comparison
With this concept in mind, readers can simply note that Beatrice was created first before Giovani and
thus the readers can state that in this version of the Garden of Eden, Eve comes before Adam. Instead
of creating Adam first, Rappacini created his own version of Eve through his experimentation with
poison. Then reader s get a sense that instead of creating an Eve for Adam, Rappaccini creates an
Adam for Eve from the line Rappaccini says to his daughter that thou art no longer lonely in the
world...My science and the sympathy between thee and him, have wrought within his system, that he
now stands apart from common men... (424). From these lines, one can once again see this parallel
and Rappaccini s God complex. He sees his science as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, look at how the text describes his creations. The previous lines make use of words like
mockery, depraved, monstrous, and evil to describe Rappaccini s experimental and deadly garden.
These words are all negative in design and by ascribing them to Rappaccini s status of a mortal man
compared to a powerful God, a full picture concerning the two entities is painted for the readers. The
text, due to this word choice, suggests that Rappaccini, cannot recreate the work of God or become a
god himself because he is just a man filled with mockery and mockery. As a mortal person,
Rappaccini cannot fully be God and it is his attempt to play God through his experimentation and
meddling that makes him a large and monstrous threat to those around him; within the story, it is his
God complex in the end that costs him a place amongst normal reality and costs him his own daughter.
From this, one can only make interpretations based on the powers of mortals in comparison to the
powers of God. From the negative adjectives used to describe Rappaccini s experimentation and
garden, readers can interpret that God s power is unreachable and pure compared to those of man.
Those who attempt to mock or mimic the power of God are considered

horrible situations when it came to contraception. This case study was conducted from August and
September of 2013. Between these months many women have reported negative feedback for the use
of contraception. This is a major problem, which can affect the way that they use contraception in the
future.
The area that is being studied in this article is Wakiso Distract, Uganda. In this area new contraception

Government insurance is divided into four different types Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and VA.
Medicare is government program that covers individuals 65 and older and disabled. Medicare is single
payer program paid only by the government (Ping Chua, 2006). Medicare is financed by payroll tax,
federal income tax and premiums from individuals enrolled in part C and D. Medicaid is a government
program designed for low income families whose income is 138% or $16,000 annually per individual,
and disabled. However, only the 32 states that chose to expand Medicaid are providing Medicaid for
their residents (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2015). Medicaid is financed by both the federal and state.
CHIP is a government program that was created to cover children whose families don t qualify for
Medicaid and are too poor to purchase private health coverage on their own. CHIP was also designed
to cover pregnant women (Ping Chua, 2006). The federal and state government also finance the CHIP
program. Lastly VA, which is Veteran s Administration, is a federally administered program for
veterans. The federal government through payroll finances this type of government insurance (Ping
Chua, 2006).

finances U.S healthcare system is the private health insurance, and it consists of employer sponsored
insurance and private non group (individual market) (Ping Chua, 2006). The employer

Texas Government Essay
The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of
many different levels. The question comes in to everyone s mind at one time or another whether or not
to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take advantage of their
power, or simply people don t like the idea of being controlled by someone who is not a family
member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the government is divided into stages and this is a
reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it does deserve to be

If issues are brought about, or arguments are carried out, then the Conference Committees are there to
resolve these differences. The most common Governmental figure in Texas is the Governor. This
power is nothing more than that of a celebrity status. Although the Governor has the power to appoint
independent boards and commissions, the senate has to confirm these appointments. This is called
senatorial courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the Governor‘s
ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. This increases the Governor‘s popularity and prestige,
and broadens the image of the office. One important power or role that the Governor is responsible for
is coordinating relations between Texas and other states. This can definitely be an important factor.
For example, the need of federal aid during the time of an emergency can require the help of other
states. The Governor also acts as the Chief Budget officer of the state. Even though the presiding
officer presides over this office, the Governor does have some control. This is a very effective
example of a good trustworthy system. The last thing that is to be discussed concerns that of the Texas
Buearocracy As to the point of trusting the government, this institution takes the cake. It is

compared to increasing doses. E. coli K 12 concentrations were decreased (P = 0.01) with REC and

general were significantly less (P = 0.032) in REC, 1.33xR and 2xR compared to the 1.66xR
treatment. Numerically, 2xR had the lowest concentration of C. difficile, and 1.66xR had the lowest
concentration of C. perfringens out of the four treatments. Previous work with human subjects showed
E. coli and substrain K 12 possess curcumin converting activity, which is responsible for curcumin
transformation and slowing down the degradation and metabolic process of curcumin (Hassaninasab
et al., 2011). Thus, increasing the dosage of 95% liposomal curcumin may have increased the growth
activity of E. coli general and K 12 due to curcumin being broken down in the cecum. This can have a
direct effect on these strains (Hassaninasab et al., 2011). In addition, this may be the reason for
concentration responses. Based on the results from the two batch cultures, the authors decided to

Throughout the twentieth century the status of women has been on a slow, but steady upward slope.
The women of this time worked extremely hard to earn the rights and status we hold today. The
improvements in the status of women were subtle in the beginning. In time though, it became well
known the overall status of women and how they once were viewed was to be changed for the better
in the eyes of society. The change in women s status included but was not limited to: improvement in
their every day work atmosphere, voting rights were given, and the ability to be noticed for their hard
work was achieved. Solely the women themselves did not achieve the noticeable improvement in the
status of women; the federal government played a large role in the improvement as well. The federal

Garden Gnome Research Paper
SUMMERTIME HAS ARRIVED, AND ON the cooler days, we can work in our gardens and spruce
up our lawn decorations. For some of us, that means we can fuss over our garden gnomes and other
colorful knick knacks and statues. Mankind has been adorning their gardens with small statuary ever
since antiquity. Historically, many of these early figurines were religious in nature; but, over the
centuries, these garden protectors were embraced by the whimsical world of folklore.
Modern garden gnomes, as we think of them today, first became truly popular in the 1800s in
Germany. By some accounts, these German Gartenzwerge (garden dwarfs) were commercially
produced as early as 1841, and they were viewed as happy, helpful creatures. Appearing in their ever
stylish hats, these German figurines spread across Europe and eventually caught the eye of a well to
do Englishman, Sir Charles Edmund Isham, 10th Baronet. In 1847, Isham purchased twenty one
garden gnomes from Nuremberg and displayed them at his home, Lamport Hall, Northamptonshire.
Only one gnome (named Lampy) survives to this very day, but he was a part of the original crew who
has been credited with starting the garden gnome craze in the UK (and, later, the world). ... Show

In this case, the employees compared themselves with a self inside situation, which is comparing their
current situation with it was before. They found their ration decreased because of income (effort paid)
increase and outcome (salary received) decrease. Since they regarded themselves as under rewarded,
they took actions to reduce tension and want to bring the situation back to normal. For example,
symbolic protest was emerged. They started to work according to the rules and refused an overtime
work. Thus, this is one kind of illegitimate political behavior under power in action.
Another problem faced by Cathay is the conflict between its management and employees. As
mentioned above, the ground crews perceived that the company has negatively affected their
concerned working conditions. This conflict may be resulted from poor communication between both
parties, lack of openness of the company, and failure to respond to employees needs. It is obvious that
Cathay failed to respond to its crews needs. Many ground staff complaint there is an increasing
amount of work and overtime works. Cathay, however, did not notice the heavy workload among the
staff. Thus, there is felt conflict appears among the affected employees, who have negative emotions,
may create hostility, mistrust, and negative interpretation to the company.

Greek And Roman Pantheon Essay
From different eras, both ancient Greek and Roman art and architecture have left an impression
around the world. Two major works that show a great deal of the culture of the people during the time
of their design and construction are the Greek Parthenon built around 432 B.C. in Athens and the
Roman Pantheon built around 125 C.E. in Italy. There are many similarities and differences between
the Greek Parthenon and the Roman Pantheon.
The biggest difference is the construction of the two temples. The Parthenon is a rectangular, while the
main structure of the Pantheon is circular; built to contain a sphere. The two structures look similar

Roman gods and goddesses. The Parthenon is an important symbol of Greek cultural. The temple
reveals the religious beliefs of Greece at the time. The care and attention paid to the architecture
shows how much the Athenians valued Athena. The art in the temple echoes the conquests of Greek
culture; a unique symbol of cultural power; a symbol for their greatness throughout the Classical
order. The Pantheon in Rome was built at a transitional point in Roman History, when the old stories
and beliefs of the ancients had not been abandoned, but Christianity and Mithraism, were beginning
taking hold. The Pantheon was first built as a temple for the gods of the seven planets in the Roman
state religion, but since the seventh century has been a Christian church. The Pantheon is the most
well conserved building in Rome and the oldest building in the world with its original roof intact.
Since the Renaissance the Pantheon has been used as a tomb housing the remains of two kings and a
queen, Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I, and Vittorio Emanuele s Queen, Margherita among others.

The Theory Of Legitimacy Of Political Authority Essay
Through the channels of social change, there are truly only two fundamental ways to produce
revolution: through either working with the system or directly contrasting the system. Historically, we
can see the recurrence of both parties at the heart of action. While the point of deliberation could be an
individual, a group, a governing body, or an enterprise, social forces work to see justice is properly
met. This belief has withstood varying philosophical and structural systemic changes. Additionally, it
is compliant with a degree of political participation. Modernly, the contractarianism that exists, the
theory of legitimacy of political authority (Cudd, 2000), demands a level of democracy and tolerance.
Many modern states rely upon a social contract to function. As individuals within these states seek
stability, they rationalize that maintaining a certain level of morality is in their best interest, thus
consenting to a government. If a group within any state contests any of the contractual obligations, a
political or social movement serves to begin dialogue and negotiation. To be clear, many social
movements take the form of grassroots organizing, or community organizing, which refers to the
collective action of the part of a community or group in order to effect change at the local, regional,
national, or international level. They empower communities whose aims can range from encouraging
political conversation to increasing mass participation in politics. Despite

To Kill A Mockingbird Racial Injustice Essay
In today s society, injustice through racism has become a controversial topic. Many groups of people,
specifically minorities, feel they are treated unfairly because of their race. Many people around the
world agree, but others think it is just a made up issue. There have been many incidents where certain
individuals from these groups have been innocent yet oppressed in some way; others have been
harmful and treated the same way. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the author, Harper Lee, does an
excellent job highlighting the racism and unfair treatment of African Americans throughout the book.
She demonstrates that even the most innocent were punished, even if they committed no crime. The

Tom had many of the characteristics of a mockingbird; he never harmed anyone and only provided
goodness. In the book, Scout makes her first impression of Tom, He seemed to be a respectable Negro,
and a respectable Negro would never go up into somebody s yard of his own violation, (Lee, 1960, p.
257). Tom was known as a very respectable man by many of the characters. He had a job that
supported his wife and children and he went to church every Sunday. However, he was charged of
something that was very contrasting to Tom s kind, respectful personality. Tom provided goodness
whenever he helped Mayella for no reward. He pitied her and helped her from the goodness of his
heart.
Killing Tom was comparable to killing a mockingbird. Tom s innocence was recognized by many
people in the town, like Mr. Underwood, He likened Tom s death to the senseless slaughter of
songbirds by hunters and children, (Lee, 1960, p. 323). Interestingly, Mr. Underwood was known to
despise Negros by all of Maycomb. However, after the trial, he recognized Tom s innocence and how

Students With An Optimum Learning Experience By Creating A...
Chapter Two: Literature Review
Introduction
Professionals in the field of education want to provide students with an optimum learning experience
by creating a favorable atmosphere (Lane McWhirter, 1992). Dauber and Epstein stated that a healthy
learning environment in school can lead to academic achievement (as cited in J. Noaks L. Noaks,
2009). Within existing educational structure opportunities for empowerment of students is limited,
according to Wyness (as cited in Sellman, 2011). Educators spend more time teaching pupils how to
be good citizens when they grow up instead of providing them opportunities to engage in civic duties
at school (Sellman, 2011). Students are citizen too and should be held accountable for improving their
own lives, working conditions, and relationships. This literature review is presented under the
following subheadings: conflict, conflict resolution, peer mediation research, benefits of peer
mediation, and peer mediation downfalls. The purpose of this literature review is to understand what
conflict is and how it can be resolved peacefully. Conflict resolution can be taught using peer
mediation framework to guide teachers and students. Peer mediation can be a positive experience for
students but there are specific points to consider before implementation of a peer mediation program
at school.

Disrespect In The Grapes Of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, discusses humanities disrespect for its environment. The
novel, set in the 1930s, is just as relevant today as when it was published. Yuhas, the author of The
Guardian article, says, Seventy five years later, The Grapes of Wrath is a mirror to a country splintered
by inequality, controlled by a minority, and facing climate catastrophe. In the 1930s, humans created
the Dust Bowl by not farming correctly and being greedy. This disrespect had repercussions. It
contributed to one of the worst economies we d ever seen and to the suffering of almost all American
people. Steinbeck s novel gives us a picture of all of this past suffering and The Guardian relates it

The Success of The Simpsons Essay
The Success of The Simpsons
In recent years, a certain animated sitcom has caught the public s attention, evoking reactions that are
both favourable and unfavourable, but hardly ever apathetic.
As a brilliant, socially aware satire, Matt Groening s The Simpson s has effectively stirred different
emotions from different factions of the culturally deadened American populace and for this alone, it
should be recognised as quality programming. The Simpsons is a brutal satire of our society and our
family structures yet it offers several redeeming qualities such as feminism, endurance and most of all
humour.

The fact that the show works on several levels at once draws a generational diverse fan base. The
adults are attracted by the surprisingly sophisticated dialogue, while the children enjoy the clumsy
antics of Homer and the traditionally cartoonish aspects of the programme.
The Simpson s themselves are a simple family in a small town in Middle America called Springfield.
They are: Homer (loyal but stupid father), Marge (dissatisfied, trapped housewife/ mother), Bart
(rebellious son), Lisa (unappreciated genius daughter), and Maggie (silent baby). The show also
revolves around a number of other characters.
The members of the family have their own quirks and are constantly feuding amongst themselves. The
hilarious show portrays the ups and downs of the Simpson s which real families are said to relate with,
to a certain to degree. The highly provocative sitcom has revolutionised cartoons and has bought
humour and mixed feelings to a new audience than previously brought before.
The fact that all the characters in The Simpsons have four fingers shows that they are all unique and
unified community despite age and race, this also makes a good statement. The skin colour is
attractive to young viewers but also has meaning to older viewers, and different parts of the show are
aimed at different audiences.

The Important Beliefs Celebrated at Easter and How They are Celebrated
Easter Sunday comes at the end of holy week which consists of many days which have a significant
meaning. The six weeks leading up to easter is called lent and this is celebrated by many people giving
up one of their luxuries, for example, chocolates and sweets. They do this because they are
remembering when jesus was in the desert and was tempted by the devil and how jesus rejected his
offer. During the time of lent, comes a day called ash Wednesday which certain churches have the
ceremony of putting ash on to the foreheads of people as a symbol of receieving forgiveness.

Good Friday remembers how jesus was crucified which is a serious and sombre occasion. It is called
Good Friday because people remember how jesus sacrificed his own life to save mankind. The
anglican, Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches are stripped of all colourful decorations, crosses,
candles and hangings. This is to remind the worshipers of the fact that jesus felt deserted and desolate
on the cross. On Good Friday, when people attend the church, the story of The Passion is read, and in
some churches the priest will enveil a crucifix and say this is the wood of the cross on which the
saviour of the world died. The people will then walk up to the alter to kiss the feet of the carved christ
as a mark of respect. Free churches will not have the same ritual, but they will have a service in which
the Passion story is read and thanks will be given to Jesus for going on the cross and saving humanity
from their sins.
Easter Saturday is when Roman Catholic, Orthodox and many Anglican churches keep an easter vigil

years ago. Ethiopia is one of the traditional country where most of the population and the economy
rely on agriculture. I was born in small rural town called Akaki in the southern part of Addis Ababa
City. My family depends on agriculture, my parents grow crops like teff, barley, hard wheat and
sorghum, which is the common ingredients for our day to day meal. The production of these crops
takes place in traditional farming. I am the youngest kid in my family, that means I am free from any
responsibilities in my culture my older siblings do most of the things in our family. I spent most of the
time playing with my friends. Everyone in my family loves me. If something happens with in our
family, the oldest one are accountable and responsible, even I am a young and grown guy, this thing
makes me lazy and spoiled person. One day my father came from farming and he looked exhausted.
He just went to his bedroom. The next morning, he felt sick. We took him to the closest hospital after
the doctors did the required examination, they found out he had high blood pressure and could be a
victim of a heart attack if he did not take the necessary medication. We came back home with the

The Pros And Cons Of Humanitarian Intervention
Humanitarian intervention has brought as much help and support to the world as it has brought unrest.
The nature of intervention involves another actor intervening in another state. Therefore, sovereignty
becomes conditional. When and how to intervene is one challenge. Many countries deploy military
forces into conflict zones or diplomatic tools. The UN deploys Peacekeepers, unarmed forces. Timing
still remains a contested issue, when to arrive and when to leave. In addition, many interventions lack
a consensus from regional or international actors, for example, the recent US led intervention in
Libya. The African Union was against it; but, the Arab League was for it. International organizations
and states should create an in depth comprehension of the situation and a coherent, concise plan,
including a timeline, objectives, and exit strategy, when conducting a humanitarian intervention. In the
early 1990s, Somalia was facing a famine outbreak. There were signs of a potential civil war. The US
marines provided famine assistance in December 1992 (Goldstein et al. 1). US troops were unprepared
to deal with the political turmoil that was plaguing the country and faced shooting skirmishes with
militants groups. 18 US soldiers were killed in the Black Hawk Dawn incident, one soldier s dead
body was dragged through the streets (Goldstein et al. 1). This event forced President Bill Clinton to
withdraw troops leaving Somalia in a state of civil war. In conclusion, the US failed

Origins Of The Federalist And Democratic-Republican Parties
Nardine Salama 1998 DBQ ESSAY AP. USHISTORY The origins of the Federalist and Democratic
Republican parties can be traced back to the early 1790s. Initially, the Federalists, or broad
constructionists, favored the growth of federal power and a strong central government. The Federalists
promulgated a loose interpretation of the Constitution, which meant that they believed that the
government could do anything by the implied powers of the Constitution or that congress had the right
to interpret the Constitution based on connotation. On the contrary, the Democratic Republicans
favored the protection of states rights and the strict containment of federal power. The Democratic

C). This Act completely cut off commerce with foreign nations until the British and the French
repealed their trading restrictions on neutral shippers. As a result the American export trade and its
profits dried up. Many people deemed this Act unconstitutional; the constitution only grants congress
the power to regulate commerce, it does not however state that they have the power to completely cut
it off. This by itself contradicts everything Jefferson stood up for. Albert Gallatin, one of the best
financial minds in the Republican Party, convinced Jefferson that the Bank of the U.S. was essential
for financial stability. Although the creation of the Bank of the U.S. reduced the nation s debt from 83
million in 1800 to 57 million by 1809 , the creation in its self shows a great deal of broad
constructionism. Although the bank was a reasonable means of carrying out powers related to taxation
and the borrowing of funds, nowhere in the constitution does it state that congress has the power to
charter a bank. John Randolph, a Republican congressman from Virginia, claimed that this
government (Jeffersonian) created and gave power to congress to regulate commerce and equalize
duties in the whole of the U.S, and not to lay a duty but with a steady eye to revenue . What John
Randolph was trying to say was that

What Does Dover Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
When discussing loss knowing it comes in many forms can create an ubiquitous contemplation about
the derivative of the characters loss. In many Dark Romantic and Gothic pieces loss can derive from a
loved one, psychological torment, or even from an egotistical attribute. These attributes may seem
customary to society, however these issues can take a great toll on a character. For example, in
Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe, he lost his wife to a lung disease which ultimately caused the
narrator to obsess in a form of grief over Annabel Lee. Moreover, in the Demon Lover by Elizabeth
Bowen the protagonist and the antagonist essentially are the same person. Mrs. Dover while revisiting
an old house she once lived in had created an entire situation that in her mind and to the reader seem
real, once the reader continues the realization that Mrs. Dover created a situation all of her own due to
psychological issues. Lastly, in The Masque of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Diary Of Anne Frank Diary Analysis
The Diary of Anne Frank is story about a young teenage girl that was trying to hide from being
persecuted from the Nazis because of her religion. During that time, survival was the only thing that
was on her mind: How long she and her family were going to last. They hid behind a bookcase that led
to an attic. They stayed there for a while until they were found a couple years later. They were taken
back to a concentration camp. She died shortly after from a disease called typhus. The only thing that
remains is her diary that her father found to preserve her memory and insight to be in the mind of a
teenage girl during the war. The diary has many themes but the main ones are stress, grief, and mental
illness.
Stress was unavoidable during this time of her life. She was born in a wealthy family and worrying
about suitors for potential marriage material. She was worrying if she would be good enough for them
or if they ll be good enough for her father. She went from being young and care free to being young
and terrified. The day that they received the letter to work in the camps was the day that her youth and
innocence died. She didn t worry about her suitors as much after that because at the end of the day, she
could never trust them enough to tell them her secrets and innermost thoughts. She had to confide in a
diary that her father gave her to help cope with what was happening around her. She hardly had any

Psychoactive Drugs Can Have On An Individual s Brain
To fully understand the affects that psychoactive drugs can have on an individual s brain, one has to
first define the term, dissect the history and use, know what factors cause addiction, and what leads to
drug dependency. What is a psychoactive drug? A psychoactive drug, psycho pharmaceutical, or
psychotropic is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in
perception, mood, or consciousness (drug, n.d). Typically the term drug alone can be seen or
associated with a positive or negative view. For example, when an individual is under the weather
suffering from cold like symptoms, they may take cough syrup to aid them into recovery sooner.

Opioids have long been valued for their effect on the gastrointestinal system due their ability to
quieting coughing (codeine) and counteracting diarrhea. One of the most popular forms of opium used
today medically is morphine. Although opioids are the most effective medication in aiding chronic
pain and many other issues, it has been given a bad rap as a very addictive substance when not
monitored correctly or taken in moderation.
What causes addiction? .No one single factor can determine why psychoactive drugs have a tendency
to become addictive. On the contrary the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that
taking drugs will lead to abuse and addiction. Learned behavior such as classical learning is one factor
that can lead to addiction and later abuse. Through classical conditioning one can pair the pleasure of
addictive substances or activities with environmental cues. For example, suppose someone smokes a
cigarette in their car after work. The enjoyment of smoking a cigarette forms a paired association with
riding in the car, as well as the time frame after work . By repeatedly pairing cigarettes with car, and
cigarettes after work, both the car and after work will become cues to smoke cigarettes. Then these
cues (getting into the car, getting off work) may create powerful cravings for nicotine.

The Trait Of Agreeableness By Robert Mccrae And Paul Costa
Assignment 3: The Trait of Neuroticism According to Robert McCrae and Paul Costa, there are five
primary traits that make up the personality. These are neuroticism, extraversion, openness,
agreeableness, and conscientiousness (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Jacobs et al (2011) defines neuroticism
as the subjective and stable tendency toward different states of negative affect (p.1). Similarly,
Jeronimus, Riese, Sanderman, and Ormel, (2014) define neuroticism as the propensity to experience
stress and negative emotions... (p.1). Undoubtedly, these mirror definitions indicate a high likelihood
of negative perceptions and higher stress levels in those who hold a high standing on the trait of
neuroticism.
Individuals with a high standing on neuroticism will be anxious and worried quite a bit of the time.
They may feel guilty often and be very tense. They will be likely to have a low self esteem and are
prone to moodiness and irrational thinking, as well as depression. Someone with a low standing on
neuroticism will be much more laid back and more likely to go with the flow. They will maintain a
more upbeat, positive attitude, even when in negative situations, which contributes to a higher self
esteem. Because of this, they will also be more likely to recover quickly from negative life events.
While many suggest that the big five personality traits are primarily genetic, an article by Jeronimus et
al. (2014) did not support a specific cause of neuroticism. They instead proposed a

The lymphatic system helps to protect us from infection and disease. It s part of the body s immune

The nodes are found throughout the whole body. My understanding of the lymphatic system is that it
is a one way drainage process that transports fluid from your body s tissues into the blood circulation,

But where the tissue could be degenerated through extensive exposure to toxins it can cause the cells
to divide and reproduce so that it creates a mass of the cells, ultimately a tumour. This tumour then
takes over the tissue. Extensive exposure to toxins can lead to this build up of cancerous cells and
weakened defence from the tissue. Our lymphatic system here is paramount as it helps to shift toxins
from the body so that they are flushed out of the body. If the lymphatic system though is damaged or
struggling in any way it cannot perform this function. If an area of the body is constricted over a long
period of time or there is a tightening or pressure applied to it regularly such as ill fitting clothes or
tight bras then this can constrict the lymphatic flow cause blockages and build up of toxins that would

nutrients are delivered to where they are needed. Ultimately, long term starvation of the tissues and
accumulation of toxins can lead to degeneration, which is linked to cancer, and often linked to breast

The Theories Of Louise Rosenblatt s Reader Response Theory
Reader Response Theory The Reader Response Theory emerged as a reaction against the New
Criticism or formalistic approach, which focused on the text, finding all the meaning, the value in it
and regarding everything else as extraneous, including readers. Despite the ideas of the Reader
Response in the 1920 s, the late Louise Rosenblatt pioneered the Reader Response theory. She was a
literary theorist and an English Educator. In her writing, Literature as Exploration written in 1938, she
emphasizes that the readers play an important role in the life of any piece of literature. According to
Rosenblatt, A novel or a poem or a play remains merely ink spot on a paper until a reader transform
them into a set of meaningful symbols (1985, 25). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It allows for inferences and insights by the reader This means that when a reader reads some literary
texts it is the belief that it allows the individual to construct his/her own meaning. Once the reader is
able to interact with the text, he/she is able to explore and interpret it in a way in which his or her
cultural backgrounds is understood and that of others. Within a literary text, the reader is able to
understand why specific cultures do certain practices and how it places value on society. Furthermore,
it is through a text that individuals gain insight on what is morally acceptable to society and can be
able to link it through their experiences whether in their school environment and the community. This
insight may be gained not just by reading one book, but through various literary text in which they are
able to apply their critical thinking skills and construct their own understanding whether it may be
through a poem or story. However, not all similar books will be written the same way, for example,
Cinderella. There are many Cinderella books written with countless interpretation; however, readers
can be able to read all and find similarities such as it is wrong to treat people cruel or that the
stepmother is cruel. Despite that, a reader may have a stepmother who is a wonderful person yet he or
she can analyze and understand that not all stepmothers are cruel or not everyone will treat a person

##cruey And The Issue Of Animal Cruelty
Animal cruelty is the act of inflicting harm or suffering upon animals for purposes other than self
defense. It may sound and be a terrible idea, but many do not notice that it is actually an ongoing issue
and happens to all types of animals across the world. Animal cruelty has been an issue since the 1800
s and continues to be a problem. This act of violence is used by people and companies who we would
hope would never do such things, yet we continue to support without realizing what is actually going
on. The use of animals for entertainment or game hunting contributes to animal cruelty because it is
unfair, cruel, and unsafe for animals of many kinds.
Circuses have been around for many years and are well known for the entertainment of performances
by acrobats, trapeze acts, and trained animals. They have been loved by many and continue to make
thousands of dollars every year. However, most of the public do not realize what is actually going on
behind the scenes of some of the most famous circuses in the U.S. Most of the animals used in circus
performances are treated unfairly. These wild animals are expected to learn unnatural tricks and are
harshly punished if they do not perform properly. Cole Bros. Circus has had an unsettling past with
this exact issue. Cole Bros. Circus has been cited repeatedly by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) for animal welfare violations. , ...when Pete did not perform her act properly, she was taken

Analysis Of Karen Thompson Walker s The Age Of Miracles
Human experience should be remembered even if the world ends. If people try to find out if there is
intelligent life out there by sending a disk, there needs to be specific things on the disk. Also, if they
are sending a disk because the world is ending, and they want to preserve human experiences, humans
need to debate what to put on there. There are a lot of things created, studied, and improved by
humans. Sometimes humans make mistakes, however, they document everything. In The Age of
Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker, the world was ending, and the human race decided to log all of
human history onto a disk and sends it into space to preserve the existence of humanity. A very special
team was put together to pic out what to include in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the disk should have a definition of emotion. Intelligent life needs to understand that the human
race was not robots. They need to see that everything was done with a lot of thinking involved. To
show intelligent life that humans were very evolved, the disk should contain the definition of
emotions. On dictionary.com, they describe emotion as, any strong agitation of the feelings actuated
by experiencing love, hate, fear, etc., and usually accompanied by certain physiological changes, as
increased heartbeat or respiration, and often overt manifestation, as crying or shaking. This shows how
unpredictable emotion can really be. On one side, humans can have a weird expression on their face
that could make people happy. However, humans can also expel water out from around their eyes to
show to show that they need help. Emotion is very complicated, and intelligent life should understand
emotion. It is a very important aspect in human history. There should be a special team trying to
explain emotion, because it is very important for intelligent life to understand. The definition of
emotion has to be on the disk, or they may never understand it. Intelligent life might be just robots that
do nothing else except follow orders from their superiors. It is very important to show intelligent life
how evolved humans were. If they see the how emotion affected us for the better, they might
understand humans better. If they understand humans, then the memories of humans can stay alive for
longer. The intelligent life will share their ideas on emotion, and their world is going to change for the
better. However, for all of that to happen, the first step is to define emotion on the disk. This is the first
and most crucial step of all. In addition, the disk should have videos about emotion. Sometimes,
organisms can learn better if they see something moving. A definition will get them started; however
they need to see

Epistolary Novels and Mimetic Devices
CHAPTER FIVE: Epistolary Novels And Mimetic Devices
We have seen how the use of mimetic devices contributed to Still Alice and Turn of Mind. In Chapter
FIVE I explore the possibility of using Facebook, (a twenty first century mode of communication), as
a mimetic device to augment conventional prose fiction. In this chapter I want to show how mimetic
devices such as letters, bank statements and reports have already been used in epistolary fiction so that
I can consider their use as models for my own work.
I touch briefly on the history of the use of mimetic devices in the epistolary novel and go on to discuss
how mimetic devices in So Much For That , House Mother Normal and Flowers for Algernon allow us
to hear different voices and create texture. In SMFT chapters are headed with a bank statement
showing how illness drains people s savings. In HMN, each character is preceded by a clinical report
which includes their cognitive ability. FFA uses a diary or progris report to tell the story. I discuss how
these mimetic devices contribute to the story.
In the 18th century, letter writing took on great importance as a new mode of communication.
(Studying the Novel 2001) In Pamela by Richardson, letters between Pamela and her family are used
to tell the story of Pamela s resistance to seduction by her employer. The reader is puzzled by the
sudden cessation of Pamela s family s replies to her letters, only to find that this is because Pamela s
employer has insisted on

Chalcogen Essay
Also known as the oxygen family, chalcogens are sulfur (S), selenium (Se), tellurium(Te), and
polonium (Po). Oxygen (O) is also in group 16, where chalcogens are located on the periodic table.
While it is defined as a chalcogen, oxygen and oxides are often separated from chalcogens because its
chemical behavior is much different than that of the other elements in the group. The other elements in
the group show similar patterns in their electron configurations resulting in similar chemical behavior.
The name chalcogen means ore former, derived from the Greek words chalcos: ore and gen:
formation. An interesting fact is that oxygen is the most abundant element on Earth, second most in
the Atmosphere, and third in the whole universe. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Selenium itself is a nontoxic element, but when made into a compound, it can become very toxic. For
example, Hydrogen selenide is intolerable to humans. Tellurium s name is derived from the latin word
for earth, tellus . It is very brittle and has a silvery white appearance. When a human is exposed to
even the smallest amount of Tellurium, they develop Tellurium breath , which smells like garlic. It was
discovered by Franz Joseph Mδller von Reichenstein, who was a the chief inspector of mines in
Transylvania, but was name by M. Klaproth. Polonium, which is very poisonous and radioactive, was
discovered by Marie Curie. She named it after her native country, Poland. It is very rare and is made
only in small quantities through a nuclear reaction of bismuth. An interesting fact about polonium is
that there actually is no real world use for it, but it can be used as a poison.
This should be a paragraph about history which this thesis statement is NOT representative of. Once
again this paragraph is a list of facts not a summary of trends with specific examples. You need to cut
back.
The Chalcogens group of elements is comprised of oxygen, sulfur, selenium, tellurium, and polonium.
Joseph Priestly discovered the element Oxygen in 1776. Priestly loved to experiment and did many
experiments of carbon dioxide, even with his meager money intake. These experiments led him
eventually to experimenting on the isolation of oxygen. Although Priestly was the

Bush Administration Effects On Women s Rights
Bush Administration s Affects on Women s Rights Gender equality, especially in regards to women s
rights, is a primary concern of many for the upcoming election. Throughout American history women
have always faced an inferior placement in American policies. Even though recently liberal ideals
have been placed to ensure more rights for women, such issues still plague society. For example, in
America, statistically, a woman makes seventy seven cents for every dollar a man earns. To gain
social, political, and economic equality of the sexes, it is the role of the government to give attention
to and cultivate a strategy to target these individual issues. Such issues were further fueled during the
eight year long Bush administration. George W. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The global gag rule denies U.S. funds to nongovernmental organizations if they provide abortion

the Bush administration forced these foreign organizations to follow his Christian fundamentalist
agenda. The non governmental organizations would not risk their funds to perform life saving
abortions or provide contraception that would decrease the need for abortions. Because he enacted this
law, women in these underprivileged nations would not have the right to have any decision regarding
their reproductive health. Ultimately they would turn to illegal ways to get abortions or contraceptives
that could potentially damage their health. The global gag rule ironically implies that the Christian

The British Renaissance Produced Many Types of Literature...
The British Renaissance Produced Many Types of Literature and Was Influenced By
Shakespeare, Marlow, and Spenser
The British Renaissance produced many types of literature for the world to see. Shakespeare, Spenser,
and Marlowe all contributed to the shaping of the time period. Christopher Marlowe s quot; The
Passionate Shepherd to His Love quot; portrays one of the typical love poems that can be seen from
the Renaissance. A man is in search of the love of another girl, or woman. Sir Walter Raleigh wrote a
poem in response to this passage of Marlowe s entitled quot; The Nymph s
Reply to the Shepherd. quot; Although the name of the girl is not stated anywhere in the former poem,
Raleigh decided to use a wood nymph as his subject. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His age also brings up another very interesting view of Marlowe s. In the poem, Marlowe expresses
the idea that age has no influence upon love and a person s feelings.
The shallow rivers, waterfalls, birds singing, and flowers all personify the
Shepherd s feeling that age has nothing to do with love and his hopes of winning the younger girl s
heart. The scene that is created is highly discernible as
Spring, the time of year associated with love and light heartedness. The allusions to these things also
demonstrates the Shepherd s hollow sense of hope.
The Shepherd tries to lure the girl by offering her everything in the world.
This materialism clearly shows that Marlowe believes that only fancy trinkets and beautiful
possessions will win the heart of a girl. In virtually every stanza, there is a reference to a nicety that
the Shepherd offers the girl in pursuitof her love.
A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs;
Christopher Marlowe s Shepherd clearly believes that the only surefire way of attaining love would be
to offer as much as you can and lure your subject into a false sense of being loved by giving her (or
him) the world.
The world means nothing to Sir Walter Raleigh s Nymph, the girl Raleigh presumes to be the object of
the Shepherd s pleas, in his poem entitled quot; The
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd quot; in direct response to Christopher Marlowe. The beautiful forest
creature is young compared to the elderly

The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus
The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, or Doctor Faustus, is a tragedy, written by Christopher
Marlowe, which conveys the heavy use of symbolism and allusions to illustrate the conflict between
good and evil during a time of rebirth in England. This play was first performed sometime between
1588 and 1593, and published sometime in the early 1600s and is based on the protagonist, Faustus,
who originates from a classic oral German legend. Doctor Faustus is one of the first of many
publications that center on the character that is Faust. Doctor Faustus tells the story of a man who has
made a deal with the devil in order to gain unlimited knowledge, which in turn, guides him down a
path of damnation and a constant struggle between right and wrong. The decisions that the titular
character makes throughout the story are presented through an overall theme of the English
Renaissance, along with symbolism and allegories that accompany the good and evil angels, as well as
the seven deadly sins. Marlowe wrote Doctor Faustus during the English Renaissance, and much of
what goes on throughout the play exemplifies the transition from the old medieval lifestyle to the new,
modern lifestyle. The Renaissance brought forth a flourishing amount of opportunities in education
and other social aspects and made it possible for people to rise up through society by working hard
and by having ambition. Faustus heavily embodies many of the changes in principle that went on in

Blood Vessels Lab Report
Introduction
The main types of blood vessels in the systemic system are arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and
venules. In this experiment, the main blood vessels that were explored in depth were the arteries and
the veins. An artery is a muscular or elastic tube that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the
tissues of the body. The only exception to this is the pulmonary, which carries oxygen to the lungs for
oxygenation and removal of excess carbon dioxide. A vein is a type of blood vessel that transports
oxygen depleted blood to the right atrium of the heart. In a blood vessel, the diameter is extremely
important. It can affect the movement of blood flow. The diameter is one of the three sources of
resistance, and it is intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The clay may not have flattened enough when used as a seal in part two. The straw may not have been
exactly half way up the cup, and the water my not have been exactly three quarters full. Also, the
depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab. Moreover, the seal may
have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for more pressure that was not
intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in the straw, air built up inside.
Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure compared to veins. If plaque were to
build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it experiences would force it to pop. This lab
illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build
up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there
is an obstruction, more pressure (in this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the
straw. In a blood vessel, even when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces
more plaque to stick. To maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be
applied, even at the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant
flow of blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will
build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important to
keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as possible.
The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case air) had to
flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood vessel. The seal was
supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin wall that is present in
veins.

Cedar Point Essay
Cedar Point Cedar Point is an amusement park visited by millions of people each year. I ve been to
Cedar Point a few times in my life and I always had so much fun there. What I never realized though,
was how long ago it opened. I also thought that Cedar Point had always been just an amusement park.
Soon I found out that I was wrong on both counts! I learned that there is a lot more history of Cedar
Point, the roller coaster capital of the world, than I thought. Before Cedar Point became the number
one rated amusement park in the world, it was used mainly for hunting and fishing. Later, a bathhouse,
a dance floor, a small beer garden, and the Grand Pavilion was added (Koehl). After that, it didn t take
long for Cedar Point s very first roller coaster to be added! And so, the history of thrill rides for Cedar
Point had begun (Park History). Throughout the years, Cedar Point has undergone many changes. In
the Boeckling Era, George A. Boeckling expanded the park drastically from 1897 all the way until
1931 when he passed away. Boeckling opened hotels, added more rollercoasters, many different rides,
a skating rink, a Coliseum, fortunetellers, and many other attractions. After Boeckling passed away, it

  • 2. What Is The Categorical Imperative Immanuel Kant s seminal work, the Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals and its subsequent On a Supposed Right to Lie because of Philanthropic Concerns , ushered in a new era of critical thinking on morality and will through his development of the categorical imperative. However, his thoughts behind the categorical imperative that is, that all moral concepts and thus the categorical imperative comes a priori in reason (Kant 22) are flawed in the belief of reason existing at all. That is to say that Kant s attempted proof to show that morals come a priori in reason is flawed in the assumption that humans can reason at all. As well, his attempt to show the categorical imperative in action (through his example of lying) is also flawed and essentially unable to be proved through the demonstration of the first point. Finally, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Immanuel Kant s categorical imperative states, Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law (30). • 3. Best Publicity Rights And Lanham Act 1. Best Publicity Rights and Lanham Act Claims for Tripper against Topcat and AND1. Topcat s My Trip with Tripper violates Woody s right of publicity and the Lanham Act, because Topcat is using Tripper s plaintiff s character and likeness for Topcat s purely commercial purposes without consent, and he is using Tripper s trademark in ways that imply Tripper s endorsement of Topcat s poster. Thus, Tripper should be afforded a permanent restraining order to prevent Tripper and AND1 from selling the poster, and he should additionally be awarded the monetary damages for the losses from the inability to secure other endorsement deals and a poster agreement with Panini due to Tripper s damages reputation that resulted from Topcat s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Id; See Abdul Jabbar v. Gen. Motors Corp.; Eastwood v. Superior Court of Los Angeles County. Here, Tripper clearly represents a famous athlete due to his winnings, signature trappings, and his social media presence during the NCAA incident and after that. Furthermore, Topcat s sale of the posters to AND1, as well as, dissemination of posters along with Tripper s shoes indicates that Topcat s primary purpose is to commercialize Tripper s image for his own gain. Tripper should also assert a policy argument stating that he needs to be afforded protection against false suggestions of endorsement or sponsorship because it is imperative for athletes, such as himself, to protect their valuable existing and potential contracts to prevent the brands from dropping out of the contracts with the athletes due to their tarnished or diluted image and likeness. See RPA at 127; and class discussion about Michael Jordan litigating abroad to protect his signature shoes. Similarly to Michael Jordan, Tripper has a signature shoe and has a signature style on the court that contributes to his likeness and image in the eyes of consumers. Furthermore, the indefinite halt of his potential poster contract with Panini signifies that Topcat s posters prevent Tripper from entering into a legitimate contract with Panini. Moreover, the other companies retracted from offering Tripper endorsement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Annie Proulx s Brokeback Mountain Michael Warner states in his book The Trouble with Normal that the [American] culture has thousands of ways for people to govern the sex of others, that a certain regulation of sexuality and desire can be designed directly, through prohibition and regulation, and indirectly, by embracing one identity or one set of tastes as though they were universally shared, or should be (Warner 1). According to Warner, the logical process that follows such a regulation ensures a certain shame attaches to any taste that is not universally shared. That this one taste should be shared implies that it is not universal. The taste that must be converted in order to achieve a universal desire is, then, naturally marked with a stigmatized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To embrace shame is to leave the hierarchies of power, placement and governance. Proulx tells the story of Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, two male cowboys in mid western America who meet as teenagers on a Farm and Ranch Employment (Proulx 256) operation on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming. That summer, herding sheep on the mountain, the two men form a romantic relationship of sorts, one that lasts for the next twenty years of their lives and is anything but unproblematic. While telling the story of the men s experience of love and sex on Brokeback Mountain, Proulx litters images of markedness on the situation, blemishing the relationship between Ennis and Jack. In fact, the name recognition of the characters alone embodies a rather informative degree of stigma. To name a character Jack Twist is to create an entity beginning normally it starts with the very common, run of the mill name Jack. To end that name with Twist is to directly change or mark the commonness and normality that initiates the entity, with strong imagery of actual twisting and distorting. Too, Ennis Del Mar (meaning, in Spanish, island of the sea ) is to create the image of a colored piece in the midst of a constant, consistent blue form. In other words, Ennis Del Mar, like an island in the sea, creates a blemish or mark. The inconsistencies only begin in the names, however, for the two men are, physically in and of themselves, stand outs. Ennis, with the ragged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Key to Success in Life Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students Solomon Ortiz Do you agree with this quotation? Thai society believes that education is the key to make them or their child success in their life. It s true but not totally true. Education is one part of successful. It s not the whole thing to make us success. Most of Thai parents will support or coerce their child to study in famous school such as Triam Udom Suksa School, Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School and Satriwitaya School which they trust that this academic can make their child smarter than other students and they will have more chance to achieve in admission. Another belief of them is encouraging their child to study in top three private universities in Thailand as Thammasat University, Chulalongkorn University and Kasertsart University because it can lead student to find better career so they will have greater future than student who graduate from public university. Moreover, most of us believe that the higher education degree you have the greater accomplishment you will. However, it has someone who doesn t have a chance to study in university because they are poor so they need to work so hard to find money to stay alive. As I mention at first that education is not the whole thing to make our life success. Why? Because some of achievement people don t graduate from private university and some of them have the highest education level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Worst Economic Depression Ever Felt Theu.s. Essay The worst economic depression ever felt in U.S. history was not only felt in north America, but this also became a worldwide economic slump. The Great Depression caused by many factors raised a question of how will the we take a step into recovery. The Election of president Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932 was the beginning of the shaping of the U.S. government interaction with American citizens. Roosevelts campaign helped him win the election of 1932 with his laudable ideas of how to combat the effects of the depression. These Ideas were a set of programs intended to fix the depression and prevent future depressions as they were categorized by their function of relief, recovery, and reform. Although these programs from the New Deal didn t end the depression they did help the U.S. towards economic progress, the program with the most significant impact on the U.S. economy would be the Social Security Act. During and after WWI the U.S. was the main creditor to many countries and provider of several goods in Europe. While European countries suffered the U.S. prospered from the war as their economic stasis grew. The stock market being one of the biggest influence to get regular Americans to invest in the stock market had its downfall as many borrowed heavily in order to invest, it soon reached its highest peak and began its decline in 1929. It was advertised as a quick way to make big bucks. The day that we know today as black Tuesday was what ushered the collapse of the American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Rappaccini s Daughter Comparison With this concept in mind, readers can simply note that Beatrice was created first before Giovani and thus the readers can state that in this version of the Garden of Eden, Eve comes before Adam. Instead of creating Adam first, Rappacini created his own version of Eve through his experimentation with poison. Then reader s get a sense that instead of creating an Eve for Adam, Rappaccini creates an Adam for Eve from the line Rappaccini says to his daughter that thou art no longer lonely in the world...My science and the sympathy between thee and him, have wrought within his system, that he now stands apart from common men... However, look at how the text describes his creations. The previous lines make use of words like mockery, depraved, monstrous, and evil to describe Rappaccini s experimental and deadly garden. These words are all negative in design and by ascribing them to Rappaccini s status of a mortal man compared to a powerful God, a full picture concerning the two entities is painted for the readers. The text, due to this word choice, suggests that Rappaccini, cannot recreate the work of God or become a god himself because he is just a man filled with mockery and mockery. As a mortal person, Rappaccini cannot fully be God and it is his attempt to play God through his experimentation and meddling that makes him a large and monstrous threat to those around him; within the story, it is his God complex in the end that costs him a place amongst normal reality and costs him his own daughter. From this, one can only make interpretations based on the powers of mortals in comparison to the powers of God. From the negative adjectives used to describe Rappaccini s experimentation and garden, readers can interpret that God s power is unreachable and pure compared to those of man. • 13. Texas Government Essay The government of the state of Texas is a difficult and complicated institution that is composed of many different levels. The question comes in to everyone s mind at one time or another whether or not to trust the government. It could be that people believe that the officials will take advantage of their power, or simply people don t like the idea of being controlled by someone who is not a family member or friend. To avoid this centralized power, the government is divided into stages and this is a reasonable ground for trusting the government. Government runs this state and it does deserve to be trusted. This is called senatorial courtesy What is meant when this job is more like a celebrity is because of the Governor‘s ceremonial roles as acting as Chief of State. Thus, increasing the dosage of 95% liposomal curcumin may have increased the growth activity of E. coli general and K 12 due to curcumin being broken down in the cecum. The women of this time worked extremely hard to earn the rights and status we hold today. The improvements in the status of women were subtle in the beginning. In time though, it became well known the overall status of women and how they once were viewed was to be changed for the better in the eyes of society. The change in women s status included but was not limited to: improvement in their every day work atmosphere, voting rights were given, and the ability to be noticed for their hard work was achieved. For some of us, that means we can fuss over our garden gnomes and other colorful knick knacks and statues. Mankind has been adorning their gardens with small statuary ever since antiquity. Historically, many of these early figurines were religious in nature; but, over the centuries, these garden protectors were embraced by the whimsical world of folklore. Modern garden gnomes, as we think of them today, first became truly popular in the 1800s in Germany. By some accounts, these German Gartenzwerge (garden dwarfs) were commercially produced as early as 1841, and they were viewed as happy, helpful creatures. Appearing in their ever stylish hats, these German figurines spread across Europe and eventually caught the eye of a well to do Englishman, Sir Charles Edmund Isham, 10th Baronet. In 1847, Isham purchased twenty one garden gnomes from Nuremberg and displayed them at his home, Lamport Hall, Northamptonshire. • 21. The Theory Of Legitimacy Of Political Authority Essay Through the channels of social change, there are truly only two fundamental ways to produce revolution: through either working with the system or directly contrasting the system. Historically, we can see the recurrence of both parties at the heart of action. While the point of deliberation could be an individual, a group, a governing body, or an enterprise, social forces work to see justice is properly met. This belief has withstood varying philosophical and structural systemic changes. Additionally, it is compliant with a degree of political participation. Modernly, the contractarianism that exists, the theory of legitimacy of political authority (Cudd, 2000), demands a level of democracy and tolerance. Many modern states rely upon a social contract to function. As individuals within these states seek stability, they rationalize that maintaining a certain level of morality is in their best interest, thus consenting to a government. If a group within any state contests any of the contractual obligations, a political or social movement serves to begin dialogue and negotiation. To be clear, many social movements take the form of grassroots organizing, or community organizing, which refers to the collective action of the part of a community or group in order to effect change at the local, regional, national, or international level. They empower communities whose aims can range from encouraging political conversation to increasing mass participation in politics. Despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within existing educational structure opportunities for empowerment of students is limited, according to Wyness (as cited in Sellman, 2011). Educators spend more time teaching pupils how to be good citizens when they grow up instead of providing them opportunities to engage in civic duties at school (Sellman, 2011). The nature of intervention involves another actor intervening in another state. Therefore, sovereignty becomes conditional. When and how to intervene is one challenge. Many countries deploy military forces into conflict zones or diplomatic tools. The UN deploys Peacekeepers, unarmed forces. Timing still remains a contested issue, when to arrive and when to leave. In addition, many interventions lack a consensus from regional or international actors, for example, the recent US led intervention in Libya. The Federalists promulgated a loose interpretation of the Constitution, which meant that they believed that the government could do anything by the implied powers of the Constitution or that congress had the right to interpret the Constitution based on connotation. As a result the American export trade and its profits dried up. Although the creation of the Bank of the U.S. reduced the nation s debt from 83 million in 1800 to 57 million by 1809 , the creation in its self shows a great deal of broad constructionism. During that time, survival was the only thing that was on her mind: How long she and her family were going to last. They hid behind a bookcase that led to an attic. They stayed there for a while until they were found a couple years later. They were taken back to a concentration camp. She died shortly after from a disease called typhus. Psychoactive Drugs Can Have On An Individual s Brain To fully understand the affects that psychoactive drugs can have on an individual s brain, one has to first define the term, dissect the history and use, know what factors cause addiction, and what leads to drug dependency. What is a psychoactive drug? A psychoactive drug, psycho pharmaceutical, or psychotropic is a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness (drug, n.d). What causes addiction? .No one single factor can determine why psychoactive drugs have a tendency to become addictive. On the contrary the more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that taking drugs will lead to abuse and addiction. Learned behavior such as classical learning is one factor that can lead to addiction and later abuse. Through classical conditioning one can pair the pleasure of addictive substances or activities with environmental cues. For example, suppose someone smokes a cigarette in their car after work. The enjoyment of smoking a cigarette forms a paired association with riding in the car, as well as the time frame after work . By repeatedly pairing cigarettes with car, and cigarettes after work, both the car and after work will become cues to smoke cigarettes. • 39. The Trait Of Agreeableness By Robert Mccrae And Paul Costa Assignment 3: The Trait of Neuroticism According to Robert McCrae and Paul Costa, there are five primary traits that make up the personality. These are neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness (Schultz Schultz, 2013). Jacobs et al (2011) defines neuroticism as the subjective and stable tendency toward different states of negative affect (p.1). Similarly, Jeronimus, Riese, Sanderman, and Ormel, (2014) define neuroticism as the propensity to experience stress and negative emotions... (p.1). Undoubtedly, these mirror definitions indicate a high likelihood of negative perceptions and higher stress levels in those who hold a high standing on the trait of neuroticism. Individuals with a high standing on neuroticism will be anxious and worried quite a bit of the time. They may feel guilty often and be very tense. They will be likely to have a low self esteem and are prone to moodiness and irrational thinking, as well as depression. Someone with a low standing on neuroticism will be much more laid back and more likely to go with the flow. They will maintain a more upbeat, positive attitude, even when in negative situations, which contributes to a higher self esteem. Because of this, they will also be more likely to recover quickly from negative life events. Lymph fluid passes through lymph nodes which are connected by a network of lymph vessels. The nodes are found throughout the whole body. My understanding of the lymphatic system is that it is a one way drainage process that transports fluid from your body s tissues into the blood circulation, it fights infections and gets rid of waste products produced by your cells. Lymph fluid normally flows through the network of lymph vessels that connect to a group of lymph nodes. The nodes, which are about the size of a baked bean and are located in specific parts of your body act as a filter, destroying or trapping anything harmful that the body ... But where the tissue could be degenerated through extensive exposure to toxins it can cause the cells to divide and reproduce so that it creates a mass of the cells, ultimately a tumour. Our lymphatic system here is paramount as it helps to shift toxins from the body so that they are flushed out of the body. If the lymphatic system though is damaged or struggling in any way it cannot perform this function. The scene that is created is highly discernible as Spring, the time of year associated with love and light heartedness. Also, the depth of the straw may not have been exactly the same over the entire lab. Moreover, the seal may have been pressed too hard onto the straw, which could have made for more pressure that was not intended. In the experiment, when there was an inner clay plug in the straw, air built up inside. Arteries observe a considerable amount of more blood pressure compared to veins. If plaque were to build up inside an artery, the higher blood pressure it experiences would force it to pop. This lab illustrates this concept in numerous ways. First, the inner clay plug in the straw forces the air to build up inside. The clay acts as an obstruction that forces the plaque(air) from exiting the straw. When there is an obstruction, more pressure (in this case blowing effort) is required to blow the air through the straw. In a blood vessel, even when plaque is building up, the pressure is kept constant and forces more plaque to stick. To maintain a constant rate of bubbles, more pressure (blowing effort) had to be applied, even at the cost of air building up inside the straw. In a blood vessel, to maintain a constant flow of blood when there is an obstruction, more blood pressure is applied, even though plaque will build up. As a side note, the marker on the cup was simply a marker, however, it was important to keep the depth of the straw in the cup consistent so that the results could be as accurate as possible. The plastic straw in the experiment represented the blood vessel that blood (in this case air) had to flow through. The flattened clay seal represented the wall that is present in blood vessel. The seal was supposed to rupture due to the fact that it was supposed to represent the thin wall that is present in veins. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
