Willy Loman, the Modern Hero in Arthur Miller s Death of a...
In Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man , a picture is painted of a flaw full man,
known as the modern hero of tragedies. Miller describes what characteristics the modern tragic hero
possesses and how he differs from the heroes depicted by classic Greek playwrights such as Sophocles
and Aristotle. In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first
understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. The
Greek tragic heroes, otherwise known as the protagonists, illustrated by tragic Greek playwrights,
were never normal people. All heroes were citizens of high class, such as princes. This was due in part
because plays were seen as a luxury for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willy is a man whose underlying fear of being displaced has created such a powerful unwillingness to
be submissive to his perception of his loss of dignity, that he believes only death itself will secure him
everlasting admiration. In order to fully appreciate how Willy believes that death will bring him the
dignity that he so desperately craves one must first look at the scene in Death of a Salesman , during
which Willy visits his boss Howard. During his visit Willy tells Howard about an elderly salesman he
met named Dave Singleman and how meeting Dave made Willy realize that selling was the greatest
career a man could want. (Miller 1801) When he died and he died the death of a salesman , Willy tells
Howard, hundreds of salesmen and buyers were at his funeral...In those days there was personality in
it, Howard. There was respect, and comradeship, and gratitude in it (Miller 1801). This quote
demonstrates how Willy believed death would bring him the respect, comradeship, and gratitude that
he never had in life.
As stated in the essay, Arthur Miller describes the modern hero as someone who possesses an
unwillingness to remain passive in the face of what he conceives to be a challenge to his dignity, his
image of his rightful. Examples of this can be seen on pages 1809 through 1810 of the play. This is the
scene where Willy goes to his friend Charley to ask for money in order to

Development of Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. is considered by many people to be the most important city in not just the United
States, but in the whole world. Washington D.C., to many, is like the capitol of the free world.
Decisions that have made the world how it is today have happened in is very city which was named
after the first president of the United States. As important as the city itself is, its development is just as
important. That is why, in the following, we will explore how Washington D.C. came to be the great
city it is today.
George Washington himself chose the location of Washington D.C.; north of where the Potomac and
Anacostia rivers meet. The city was officially founded on July 16, 1790. Pierre Charles L Enfant, a
French architect appointed by George Washington, was to design ... Show more content on

is the National Mall. The National Mall consists of the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument,
and the Lincoln Memorial. First, we will talk about the Washington Monument. The Washington
Monument is a stone obelisk over 500 feet tall and is the centerpiece of the National Mall. The
monument is also made out of 40,000 marble and granite blocks and is the tallest freestanding
structure in the world. You might ask yourself; What is holding this structure together? The answer is
the monuments weight. After six years of construction on the monument, the project ran out of money
because of the young nation going to civil war. The monument was only 150 feet in the air at this
point. Twenty four years later, 1878, construction once again began on the Washington Monument.
Thomas Lincoln Casey was the head engineer on the construction, but was faced with a problem right
away because the original blocks were not available anymore. That is why the bottom portion of the
structure is a different shade than the top portion. Casey had another problem; Congress could not
reach a decision on how the Monument should be

Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15...
Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15
This essay will explore how I would teach a group of 10 first grade students to count rationally to 15
assuming that all of them are already able to count rationally to 10. I shall explain how I would ensure
that students understand each of the four rational counting principles of one to one correspondence,
the stable order rule, the order irrelevance rule, and the cardinality rule. I shall present an assessment I
would use to evaluate student mastery of rational counting to 15. Finally, I shall discuss how I would
adapt my instruction to accommodate English Language Learners (ELL) and students with learning
exceptionalities.
Rational counting means students apply all four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I shall repeat this several times until I formatively assess students are transitioning smoothly from one
new number word to the next without hesitation.
5) I shall then instruct students to chorally say the numbers in sequence without me modeling as I
point to them in stable order.
6) The final step in establishing the Stable Order Rule will be to repeat each step of this process
starting from the number 1 all the way to 15.
One to One Correspondence would be the next counting principle I would address in the following
manner:
1) I would place 15 dotes on the white board in an evenly spaced horizontal pattern.
2) I would explain to students that it is important to count each dot only once and by touching,
marking, or moving an item as it is being counted will help the person counting not miss an item or
count the same item twice by establishing one to one correspondence.
3) I would verbally model count the dots from left to right pointing to and touching each one as I said
it following the stable order rule.
7) I would then ask students to repeat after me as I slowly count and say each one from one all the
way to 15. This process will be repeated several times until I formatively assess all 10 students are
confidently restating each number name including the new ones.
8) I would then have students count chorally without my modeling as I point to each dot along the line
from left to right in order from the 1st to the 15th. I shall repeat

Essay on Professional Wrestling
Professional Wrestling
Watching a well built young man take a death defying fifteen foot leap through a wooden table onto
another man s prone body can be a thrilling experience. The fact is if you are a fan of professional
wrestling today you have grown used to these stunts as if they weren t as spectacular as they sound.
Professional wrestling s recent boom in popularity began in the late 90 s, but unlike it s past success it
is not as safe as once was. While all theatrics the stunts have continued to push the limits to levels that
have never been seen before. The results of this constant risktaking can be seen in the early
retirements of many of pro wrestling s brightest stars and rookies who ... Show more content on

In addition to this they also began to appreciate a new style of wrestling, a wrestling labeled as
extreme wrestling.
Extreme wrestling was not your typical wrestling match in which the gladiators would exchange
moves and holds as they built the match to it s climax. In this type of wrestling, the competitors had
replaced the generic moves with high impact moves, steel chairs, barbed wire, wooden tables, and
jumps and falls that resemble movie stunts.
This new type of wrestling has been criticized as being just as dangerous to an athlete s health as
steroids were to them in the past. This type of wrestling has caused many of the upcoming wrestlers to
become myths and legends before they even make it to television.
One great example of this is a wrestler known as Mick Foley. Foley never had physique or looks to be
a professional wrestler. Instead, Mick had a high threshold for pain and a great sense of humor. For
Mick this ended up being a winning combination in the world of wrestling. He went on to become one
of the most beloved stars of all time but not before 17 years in wrestling destroyed both his body and
mind. Mick s list of career injuries is like a lesson in human anatomy. He has incurred a broken his
cheekbone, jaw ,right wrist, nose (twice), left thumb, five ribs, and left toes. Mick has also seperated

Analysis Of The Poem Of His Coy Mistress By Andrew...

Mrs. Dawson
English II
21 September 2014
Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet
suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the
speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her
body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it
will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an
attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to
have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final,
stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in
intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have
the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the
idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for
the future. In the first stanza, the speaker uses various forms of flattery to convince his coy mistress to
make love and live in the moment. In the first few lines, the speaker communicates to his addressee,
the mistress, that if had we but world enough, and time, (1), meaning, if time

The Effect Of A Reduced Quantity Of Light
Introduction In this study, the focus is on the effect of a reduced quantity of light being the intensity of
the light and quality of the light being the wavelengths that the chloroplast isolate of Spinach beet
(Beta vulgaris subsp. cicla) is exposed to, and whether the results indicated have a connection to the
effect of the difference in lights in forests, and hence the effect on seedlings and plants underneath
dense canopies and their ability to photosynthesis, therefore their photosynthetic activity. Together
with investigating whether the intensity of the light or the quality has a greater effect on the rate of
photosynthetic activity, was also the effect of varying densities of chloroplasts on the rate of activity.

Current studies already taken place explore the fact that certain wavelengths of light are more capable
of fuelling photosynthesis (Halliwell B, 1984), demonstrating how certain wavelengths such as blue
and red sections of the visible light spectrum will be absorbed by the photosynthetic organisms and
then transferred along the electron transport chain, while others portions of the visible light spectrum
are not absorbed such as the green section therefore, indicating why in dense forests with limiting
direct light is available green light is transmitted (Lee D, 1987, Endler J, 1993). To investigate the
photosynthetic affect of different light wavelengths and light intensities on Spinach Beet (Beta
vulgaris subsp. cicla) the flow of the electrons through the electron transport chain will be observed
through the absorption change of the chemical DCPIP, demonstrating the colour and therefore the
absorbance is proportional to the photosynthetic activity, measured using a spectrophotometer.
Method
To prepare the live chloroplast, 4g of spinach leaf were grinded with 15 ml of ice cold isolation
median into a smooth paste, and filtered (finely as possibly), it was centrifuged at 1300xg at 4°C for 5
minutes. The supernatant was decanted separating it from the dark green layer. Again ice cold
isolation medium was added to the tube containing the dark green layer to have ~1ml of isolate, the

The Philosophy of the American Settlers Westward...
The people of the United States who were settling westward in the early nineteenth century viewed the
Native Americans as a threat to westward expansion, and therefore pressured their leaders to set up
policies that would remove Indians. Due to the long history various conflicts between Indians and
Americans, the American settlers were apprehensive toward the Indians, leading to the perceived need
of the removal of the Indians for their safety. Andrew Jackson s negative attitude toward of the Indians
also aroused public sentiment against them. Jackson s position as a leader gave him more influence on
the people, who knew of the battles he had won against the Indians during his time as an Indian
fighter. The early 1800s was a period of westward expansion. The Great Migration was a time when
moved thousands of Americans moved west, curious about unexplored western lands and wanting to
acquire it. The appeal of the West grew, and settlers migrated. The ideals of the Manifest Destiny also
had surfaced, that it was pre ordained that the U.S. expand its borders to the Pacific Ocean. The
American people did not like any Indian presence to impede their acquisition of lands westward and
growth as a nation, despite trading with them frequently (Brinkley). The Manifest Destiny was, as
stated in Cheryl D. Bohde s article Young America, ...a philosophy that led to the expulsion of Native

The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War
The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the
Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the
Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in
coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military
defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major
American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. Johnson s decision to halt
escalation after the Tet Offensive marked a crucial turning point in American participation in the

Essay On The Growth Of Gold Nanoclusters
Abstract: In this article, a facile and rapid method was developed to synthesize intensely
photoluminescent catalytic gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) based on etching small citrate capped gold
nanoparticles using 4,6 dimethyl 2 pyridineselenol 3 caronitrile and 4 Methylquinolineselenol 3
carbonitrile as models for organoselenium compounds. The size and the catalytic performance of the
prepared fluorescent nanoclusters were characterized using suitable Transmission Electron
Microscope (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry

In top down techniques, clusters are synthesized from larger nanoparticles or bulk metal. Etching of
nanoparticles using ligands (as thiols) is one of the most top down techniques can be used for the
synthesis of metal clusters. Removing the surface atoms or break the metal nanoparticles into smaller
clusters by using the etching capacity of such ligands will lead to synthesize stable quantum clusters.
For example, Habib et al. has used the etching of mercaptosuccinic acid protected gold nanoparticles
with excess glutathione to yield small photoluminescent gold clusters either with 8 or 25 gold atoms
[16]. Polyethylenimine as multivalent coordinating polymers can also be used to etch preformed
colloidal gold nanocrystals producing highly fluorescent nanoclusters [17]. it is well confirmed that
small noble metal nanoclusters display excellent catalytic activities such as aerobic oxidation of
thiophenol [18], propene epoxidation[19], oxidation of styrene [20], p nitrophenol reduction with
NaBH4 [21] and the reduction of methylene blue with hydrazine [22].
Organoselenium compounds are of considerable interest due to their wide efficiency and applicability
with numerous therapeutic applications [23]. In addition, the presence of a heterocyclic ring in these
compounds upgrades their properties to a great

Theme Of Disease In Oryx And Crake
Disease: an unnaturally natural cure Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood is a post apocalyptic novel
set in an undetermined future narrated by, Snowman, who seems to be the last true human on earth.
Although the book reads as if it is telling a futuristic tale, in reality many of the scientific and cultural
trends are drawn from our own, current society. One theme of the novel, disease, has parallel
similarities to our society and world today. Disease is woven into all aspects of life, just as it was used
in Oryx and Crake as a capitalistic weapon, a weapon of mass destruction, and it was used as a cure.
Firstly, the theme of disease in this novel has an overwhelming existence, it is strongly linked into
other themes and creates a foundation for how the novel unravels. As with our society, big
pharmaceutical companies have control over life and death. We often perceive them as greedy, fear
mongering scientists. Crake, the borderline mad scientist at RejoovenEssence, even accuses
pharmaceutical companies of inventing diseases and cures simultaneously in order to maintain a high
demand for their services, So, you d need more sick people. Or else and it might be the same thing
more diseases. New and different ones. Right? Stands to reason, said Jimmy after a moment. It did,
too. But don t they keep discovering new diseases? Not discovering, said Crake. They re creating
them. (Atwood 211) The use of disease and the desire to be cured is nothing more than a

ethics social responsibility, etc.). Then, identify a company or organization that you believe has been
impacted by this contemporary challenge. Write a minimum four page paper, with a cover page, and
works cited page (in addition to the four page minimum). The paper should address (1) the challenge
faced by that company or organization, (2) how management is responding to that challenge, (3) a
critical analysis of the management response, and (4) how you would have responded to that
challenge. This paper should be written in MLA format. Include at least five outside sources, three of
which should be scholarly journals (NOT Wikipedia or a generic Web site, but actual articles from
journals like Journal of Business Ethics, Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management, etc.),
and should demonstrate scholarly business critical analysis.
Outsourcing today is looked down upon by just about everyone, so it is no surprise that companies
that partake in it, are publically called out and put under close scrutiny: the company Nike is no
exception to that. Nike was an early target for the very reason that it s been so successful. Its business
model was based

Saving the Bluefin Tuna Essay
The allusive bluefin tuna is one of the largest, fastest and highly sought after fish in the wild sea. The
Bluefin tuna can weigh over half a ton, grow to over four metres in length, and dive to depths of 1,000
metres. They can reach speeds of 70 miles an hour and even raise their body temperature far above
that of the surrounding water in order to traverse arctic waters. They are among the most ambitiously
migratory of all fish, with some tagged bluefin being tracked swimming from North American to
European waters several times a year. The bluefin tuna is unique, a perfectly adapted products of
evolution. They are also dangerously close to becoming extinct (Brown). Today, the bluefin tuna has
been fished out by 97 percent from pre fishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Driven by such high prices, many fishermen, chefs and business owners depend on the bluefin tuna
industry for a way to support their lives. Respectively so, without sustainable fishing practices and
stricter regulations for the bluefin tuna, neither Japan, nor the rest of the world will even have the
choice on whether or not eating and fishing bluefin tuna should be an option (Crockett).
Although bluefin tuna does provide food and livelihoods for many people, they are more than just
seafood. The bluefin tuna is a top predator in the marine food chain, maintaining an important balance
in the ocean environment (Walsh). Author Brian Walsh writes,
[Scientist Amanda Nickson from The Pew Charitable Trusts] has recommended, echoed by many
other environmental groups and scientists, that the bluefin tuna fishery should be suspended, at least
until there s more effective management that might prevent the overfishing of the bluefin tuna
(Walsh).
In a recent assessment done by the International Scientific Committee for bluefin tuna, released in
January 2013, found that bluefin spawning stocks, the key measure of adults that can reproduce, have
plummeted by about three quarters over the past 15 years. It s estimated that the bluefin tuna has
dwindled to just 3.6 percent of its original population once found in the fifties. More than 90 percent
of blue fin tuna being fished out from the sea today are juveniles between the ages of 0 and 3. (Walsh)

Examples Of Figurative Language In King Arthur

The Seventh Symphony s Four Movements Of The Seventh Symphony
The Seventh Symphony has four movements:
I. Poco sostenuto Vivace ( A major)
II. Allegretto (A minor)
III. Presto Assai meno presto (trio) (F major)
IV. Allegro con brio (A major)
Some general characteristics of this symphony are: The turbulent joy and dynamism, rhythmic
audacity full of vigor and novelty, evolved and complex harmony, the emancipation of orchestral
timbres (especially the prominent role of wind instruments).
The first Movement: Poco sostenuto Vivace (A major): It s in sonata form. A slow introduction of
large dimensions, precedes the first time, which fixes the luminous and rustic nature of the work.
There are contrasts of timbres and abrupt harmonic modulations. This movement have confusing wave
of ascending scales, with the usual preparatory character, from which emerges only a beautiful melody
of the oboe, a kind of slow march in C major , which could be described as idyllic if the virtue of
rhythm did not exist. . The dominant tone is hammered repeatedly, first with equal rhythmic values,
then almost standing out one note to the other, the jumping division of the rhythm is in compound
double.
Theme A of the sonata is rhythmically clear and is initially exposed by the flute, whereas theme B is
somewhat diffuse in its melodic profile. It is a structurally very complex movement.
2º. Movement: Allegretto. (A minor): This movement has extended lied form and variations. The
texture of this movement is homophonic and it have a simple and compound

Examples Of Diction In Beowulf
Beowulf speaks volumes about the ways of life during the Anglo Saxon period. It is to England what
Homer s Odyssey and Iliad are to Greece. It is, as some call it, the mother poem of England. This
mother poem has been passed down through oral tradition for numerous years and scholars believe
that an educated Christian monk transcribed the poem, preserving it in written form. Beowulf has
survived for nearly 1,300 years due to how well it conveys the Anglo Saxon culture and the unique
characteristics of the poem in its imagery, tone, style and diction. This epic poem depicts picturesque
imagery of various kinds. It is acutely gruesome in many instances, such as the battle with Grendel
and the description of hell s captive and his mother. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With much alliteration, imaginative kennings, and caesura. The narrator uses strong alliteration and
does so quite intricately, using single, double and triple alliterations at points throughout the poem;
such as in lines 30 32, Then, when darkness had dropped, Grendel / Went up to Herot, wondering what
the warriors / Would do in that hall when their drinking was done. (L. 30 32) The narrator frequently
uses kennings in this poem. A kenning in Anglo Saxon literature is a metaphorical phrase or
compound word that names an event, person, place, or thing indirectly. There are four different types
of kennings that the narrator uses within Beowulf which are prepositional phrase (ex. shepherd of evil
= Grendel, guardian of crime = Grendel), hyphenated compound (ex. sea road = the ocean, ring giver
= king), possessive (ex. God s bright beacon = the sun), and open compound (ex. wakeful sleeper =
Beowulf) kennings. A unique quality of the style of Beowulf is caesura, which is seen in nearly every
line within the poem. Caesura is a characteristic of Old English poetry; it is a pause or a break within a
line of poetry and it is usually indicated by the natural rhythm of the language. Alliteration coincides
with caesura; usually the first stressed syllable before the caesura alliterates with the first stressed
syllable after the

The Captivating Event of the Rosewood Massacre
The Rosewood Massacre was one of the most captivating events in history. It all began with racism
and violence against African Americans in the united states during the post World War 1 era. African
Americans were lynched for allegedly raping white women like for men in McClenny were on
08/05/20. Burned at the stake like Perry, a black man on 12/09/22. They also had their church, school,
Masonic lodge, and meeting hall burned down. The Rosewood Massacre all started when a lady

proceeded to assault her. In the movie Rosewood Fannie was having an affair with a white man and
one day while her husband was at work her secret came over he ended up beating her and leaving
bruises all over her. She knew she couldn t tell her husband she was having an affair so when the man
left she ran outside screaming and shouting. Neighbors who had heard her screaming ran to her rescue
asking who done it. She had said it was a nigger. The sheriff and a bunch of white townsfolk band

burned down houses, and tortured them. A man named Mr. Man, who was actually a fictional
character, helped save the lives of children and women and then helped a man named John Bradley

Essay about Preventing and Assessing Intensive Care Unit...
Abstract
Delirium in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has become a genuine phenomenon and can be problematic
for the patient and the staff caring for them. Delirium occurs when a patient is placed in an unfamiliar
environment and has to endure the stress of not just the hospitalization but the stimuli of the
environment, which can cause disturbances in consciousness. Patients can become confused, anxious,
and agitated; making this difficult for the staff to correctly diagnosis and care for them. Sleep
deprivation and environmental factors along with neurotransmitters are strongly related to the
occurrence of ICU delirium. ICU staff needs to become more educated on prevention, detection, and
proper treatment for the patient experiencing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may lead to illusions or hallucinations (Figueroa Ramos, Arroyo Novoa, Lee, Padilla, Puntillo,
2009). Some signs of delirium are restlessness, anxiety, hallucinations, agitation, disorientation, and
any abnormal behavior. Some causes of ICU delirium are due to drugs, stress, environmental factors,
and sleep deprivation. Studies show a strong connection between sleep deprivation and delirium.
Alterations in specific neurotransmitters are the basis of current research (Figueroa Ramos, Arroyo
Novoa, Lee, Padilla, Puntillo, 2009). Enhanced assessment and nursing implementations to better
prevent and detect ICU delirium will bring improved outcomes for this particular patient population.
There are many ways to assess for ICU delirium. Two of the most reliable and easiest methods are
basic observations from the bedside nurse and The Confusion Assessment Method (CAM). The CAM
includes nine different criteria for delirium (1) acute onset and fluctuation, (2) inattention, (3)
disorganized thinking, (4) altered level of consciousness, (5) disorientation, (6) memory impairment,
(7) perceptual disturbances, (8) psychomotor agitation or retardation, and (9) altered sleep wake cycle.
A delirium diagnosis is given when criteria one and two and either three or four are present. The
second assessment tool for delirium detection is made from nursing observations. The nurse observes
the patient throughout their

Figurative language Based on Contrast It is the third type of figurative language which employs an

The Chocolate War Many people often meet different characters in literature and in life that they

Roland Goubert or The Goober based on his actions. I despise Archie Costello (The Assigner of The

the book, after Jerry got beat up by Emile Janza, Goober helped Jerry and told him, Everything will be

I despise Archie Costello (The Assigner) the most because he was a part of The Vigils and also
because he was evil. My idea of evil is not feeling guilt when that person should feel guilt, being cruel

Feudalism In Romantic Poetry
A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are awake we have a
world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world (Quoted by O Connell 35). As
conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems have a close relationship with dream. However,
as the definitions and characteristics are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term
Romanticism . For instance, Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when
defined by associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in romantic
poetry according to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry cannot be defined with a
linguistic entitle without considering the historical process (Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific
period after the revolution in France and the Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started

Setting For Treasure Island On The California Coast
As I ease into the yellowish water, sandy running shoes around my neck and small dog wriggling
under my arm, I become aware of a faint and unfamiliar sour musky odor. This better be worth it.
I expect it will be. One time Sonoma County resident Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have
developed the setting for Treasure Island on the California coast. For many of my generation and
older, that is the tale that launched a thousand ships, pirate vessels all, in dreams of sudden and
incalculable wealth. Decades later, any hope of sudden material wealth has slipped away like fog
under a midmorning sun. But a greater wealth hinted at in the book remains, even if it is only
attainable during the odd vacation week every year the wealth of enriching experience and wonder.
Which brings me back to the Sonoma coast and Gualala Point Regional Park. The park is a County
facility, and offers one of the shrinking number of public beaches where dogs are welcome. Provided
they are on six foot leashes, that is. Such a diminishment of the dog s world is nothing compared to
that of the snowy plover s. The plover is a six inch sandpiper, nearly invisible in its shoreline
environment, whose very existence is uncertain due to development of California s coast and
trampling of beaches and dunes and cryptic eggs in the sand. A dog s merry chase may seem harmless
no bird caught, ever and yet still doom another chance for a tiny bird s future.

  • 2. Willy Loman, the Modern Hero in Arthur Miller s Death of a... In Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man , a picture is painted of a flaw full man, known as the modern hero of tragedies. Miller describes what characteristics the modern tragic hero possesses and how he differs from the heroes depicted by classic Greek playwrights such as Sophocles and Aristotle. In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. The Greek tragic heroes, otherwise known as the protagonists, illustrated by tragic Greek playwrights, were never normal people. All heroes were citizens of high class, such as princes. This was due in part because plays were seen as a luxury for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willy is a man whose underlying fear of being displaced has created such a powerful unwillingness to be submissive to his perception of his loss of dignity, that he believes only death itself will secure him everlasting admiration. In order to fully appreciate how Willy believes that death will bring him the dignity that he so desperately craves one must first look at the scene in Death of a Salesman , during which Willy visits his boss Howard. During his visit Willy tells Howard about an elderly salesman he met named Dave Singleman and how meeting Dave made Willy realize that selling was the greatest career a man could want. (Miller 1801) When he died and he died the death of a salesman , Willy tells Howard, hundreds of salesmen and buyers were at his funeral...In those days there was personality in it, Howard. There was respect, and comradeship, and gratitude in it (Miller 1801). This quote demonstrates how Willy believed death would bring him the respect, comradeship, and gratitude that he never had in life. As stated in the essay, Arthur Miller describes the modern hero as someone who possesses an unwillingness to remain passive in the face of what he conceives to be a challenge to his dignity, his image of his rightful. Examples of this can be seen on pages 1809 through 1810 of the play. This is the scene where Willy goes to his friend Charley to ask for money in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Decisions that have made the world how it is today have happened in is very city which was named after the first president of the United States. As important as the city itself is, its development is just as important. That is why, in the following, we will explore how Washington D.C. came to be the great city it is today. The National Mall consists of the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. First, we will talk about the Washington Monument. The Washington Monument is a stone obelisk over 500 feet tall and is the centerpiece of the National Mall. The monument is also made out of 40,000 marble and granite blocks and is the tallest freestanding structure in the world. You might ask yourself; What is holding this structure together? The answer is the monuments weight. After six years of construction on the monument, the project ran out of money because of the young nation going to civil war. The monument was only 150 feet in the air at this point. Twenty four years later, 1878, construction once again began on the Washington Monument. Thomas Lincoln Casey was the head engineer on the construction, but was faced with a problem right away because the original blocks were not available anymore. That is why the bottom portion of the structure is a different shade than the top portion. Casey had another problem; Congress could not reach a decision on how the Monument should be ... Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15 This essay will explore how I would teach a group of 10 first grade students to count rationally to 15 assuming that all of them are already able to count rationally to 10. I shall explain how I would ensure that students understand each of the four rational counting principles of one to one correspondence, the stable order rule, the order irrelevance rule, and the cardinality rule. I shall present an assessment I would use to evaluate student mastery of rational counting to 15. Finally, I shall discuss how I would adapt my instruction to accommodate English Language Learners (ELL) and students with learning exceptionalities. One to One Correspondence would be the next counting principle I would address in the following manner: 1) I would place 15 dotes on the white board in an evenly spaced horizontal pattern. 2) I would explain to students that it is important to count each dot only once and by touching, marking, or moving an item as it is being counted will help the person counting not miss an item or count the same item twice by establishing one to one correspondence. 3) I would verbally model count the dots from left to right pointing to and touching each one as I said it following the stable order rule. 7) I would then ask students to repeat after me as I slowly count and say each one from one all the way to 15. This process will be repeated several times until I formatively assess all 10 students are confidently restating each number name including the new ones. 8) I would then have students count chorally without my modeling as I point to each dot along the line from left to right in order from the 1st to the 15th. • 6. Essay on Professional Wrestling Professional Wrestling Watching a well built young man take a death defying fifteen foot leap through a wooden table onto another man s prone body can be a thrilling experience. The fact is if you are a fan of professional wrestling today you have grown used to these stunts as if they weren t as spectacular as they sound. Professional wrestling s recent boom in popularity began in the late 90 s, but unlike it s past success it is not as safe as once was. While all theatrics the stunts have continued to push the limits to levels that have never been seen before. The results of this constant risktaking can be seen in the early retirements of many of pro wrestling s brightest stars and rookies who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this they also began to appreciate a new style of wrestling, a wrestling labeled as extreme wrestling. Extreme wrestling was not your typical wrestling match in which the gladiators would exchange moves and holds as they built the match to it s climax. In this type of wrestling, the competitors had replaced the generic moves with high impact moves, steel chairs, barbed wire, wooden tables, and jumps and falls that resemble movie stunts. This new type of wrestling has been criticized as being just as dangerous to an athlete s health as steroids were to them in the past. This type of wrestling has caused many of the upcoming wrestlers to become myths and legends before they even make it to television. One great example of this is a wrestler known as Mick Foley. Foley never had physique or looks to be a professional wrestler. Instead, Mick had a high threshold for pain and a great sense of humor. For Mick this ended up being a winning combination in the world of wrestling. He went on to become one of the most beloved stars of all time but not before 17 years in wrestling destroyed both his body and mind. Mick s list of career injuries is like a lesson in human anatomy. Ryan James Mrs. Dawson English II 21 September 2014 Seize the Day in To His Coy Mistress In the poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, the poet suggests that time is a limited resource, and one must live life at the moment. In the first stanza, the speaker conveys flattery to his addressee (his mistress), revealing how he would endlessly admire her body if time weren t an issue, and if she wasn t so shy. Conveying this sense of flattery, he hopes it will convince her to have sex with him. In the second stanza, the speaker then uses scare tactics in an attempt to make love to her the speaker references eternal death and how they wouldn t be able to have sex in their graves. The only option would be to have sex at that moment! In the third, and final, stanza, the speaker conveys sexual urgency, his last resort in successfully convincing her to indulge in intercourse with him. The speaker describes how they should do it while they re young and still have the desire, before time runs out. Therefore, the poem communicates the theme of carpe diem, or, the idea that time is limited, and the speaker and his mistress should enjoy the present without concern for the future. (Pitelka et al 1985, Lawson 2010) Current studies already taken place explore the fact that certain wavelengths of light are more capable of fuelling photosynthesis (Halliwell B, 1984), demonstrating how certain wavelengths such as blue and red sections of the visible light spectrum will be absorbed by the photosynthetic organisms and then transferred along the electron transport chain, while others portions of the visible light spectrum are not absorbed such as the green section therefore, indicating why in dense forests with limiting direct light is available green light is transmitted (Lee D, 1987, Endler J, 1993). To investigate the photosynthetic affect of different light wavelengths and light intensities on Spinach Beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. cicla) the flow of the electrons through the electron transport chain will be observed through the absorption change of the chemical DCPIP, demonstrating the colour and therefore the absorbance is proportional to the photosynthetic activity, measured using a spectrophotometer. Method To prepare the live chloroplast, 4g of spinach leaf were grinded with 15 ml of ice cold isolation median into a smooth paste, and filtered (finely as possibly), it was centrifuged at 1300xg at 4°C for 5 minutes. The supernatant was decanted separating it from the dark green layer. Again ice cold isolation medium was added to the tube containing the dark green layer to have ~1ml of isolate, the ... The people of the United States who were settling westward in the early nineteenth century viewed the Native Americans as a threat to westward expansion, and therefore pressured their leaders to set up policies that would remove Indians. Due to the long history various conflicts between Indians and Americans, the American settlers were apprehensive toward the Indians, leading to the perceived need of the removal of the Indians for their safety. Andrew Jackson s negative attitude toward of the Indians also aroused public sentiment against them. Jackson s position as a leader gave him more influence on the people, who knew of the battles he had won against the Indians during his time as an Indian fighter. The early 1800s was a period of westward expansion. The Great Migration was a time when moved thousands of Americans moved west, curious about unexplored western lands and wanting to acquire it. The 1968 Tet Offensive In The Vietnam War The 1968 Tet Offensive was a series of battles which took place during the Vietnam War where the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) attacked the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and U.S. Forces in South Vietnam. This major offensive by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) forces which were initiated on January 30th of 1968 in coordination with Tet, the Vietnamese New Year. The offensive is historically labeled as a military defeat for the DRV forces while ultimately being a strategic victory through it s ability to turn major American public opinion against support of the war effort in Vietnam. It was reasonably assumed by the American public that an enemy in retreat could not launch such a large offensive, and inherently this caused great concern over the situation in Vietnam. Essay On The Growth Of Gold Nanoclusters Abstract: In this article, a facile and rapid method was developed to synthesize intensely photoluminescent catalytic gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) based on etching small citrate capped gold nanoparticles using 4,6 dimethyl 2 pyridineselenol 3 caronitrile and 4 Methylquinolineselenol 3 carbonitrile as models for organoselenium compounds. The size and the catalytic performance of the prepared fluorescent nanoclusters were characterized using suitable Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (ESI MS) and photoluminescence techniques. In top down techniques, clusters are synthesized from larger nanoparticles or bulk metal. Etching of nanoparticles using ligands (as thiols) is one of the most top down techniques can be used for the synthesis of metal clusters. Removing the surface atoms or break the metal nanoparticles into smaller clusters by using the etching capacity of such ligands will lead to synthesize stable quantum clusters. For example, Habib et al. has used the etching of mercaptosuccinic acid protected gold nanoparticles with excess glutathione to yield small photoluminescent gold clusters either with 8 or 25 gold atoms [16]. Polyethylenimine as multivalent coordinating polymers can also be used to etch preformed colloidal gold nanocrystals producing highly fluorescent nanoclusters [17]. it is well confirmed that small noble metal nanoclusters display excellent catalytic activities such as aerobic oxidation of thiophenol [18], propene epoxidation[19], oxidation of styrene [20], p nitrophenol reduction with NaBH4 [21] and the reduction of methylene blue with hydrazine [22]. Theme Of Disease In Oryx And Crake Disease: an unnaturally natural cure Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood is a post apocalyptic novel set in an undetermined future narrated by, Snowman, who seems to be the last true human on earth. Although the book reads as if it is telling a futuristic tale, in reality many of the scientific and cultural trends are drawn from our own, current society. One theme of the novel, disease, has parallel similarities to our society and world today. Disease is woven into all aspects of life, just as it was used in Oryx and Crake as a capitalistic weapon, a weapon of mass destruction, and it was used as a cure. Firstly, the theme of disease in this novel has an overwhelming existence, it is strongly linked into other themes and creates a foundation for how the novel unravels. As with our society, big pharmaceutical companies have control over life and death. We often perceive them as greedy, fear mongering scientists. Crake, the borderline mad scientist at RejoovenEssence, even accuses pharmaceutical companies of inventing diseases and cures simultaneously in order to maintain a high demand for their services, So, you d need more sick people. The Health Body Wellness Center s (HBWC) through OGG takes an initiative of tracking the grants distributed to small hospitals, to achieve this, the company has contracted We Automate Anything (WAA) and given them the responsibility of implementing the small hospital grant tracking system. This system enables them to allocate and track the gifts within a specified period. OGG assigns awards to one hospital and follows how they have been utilized within a period of one month. The unused portion of the subsidy is recalled and issued to another hospital. This is done in a continuous and rotational manner. In this case, it is stating the fact of if the new deal helped the Great Depression and the economic drought that we were in, then it was a success. The New Deal was a series of programs created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt designed to help the economy. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 1939. It began with the great stock market crash on October 27. It was the greatest economic depression the United States had ever experienced. People expressed their feelings or thoughts of the great depression in many different ways including that of songs or speeches. Many songs included lyrics that symbolized wanting freedom to a place that was not suffering. Reading the lyrics of No Depression in Heaven by The Carter Family hinted some of the troubles that our nation was dealing with. Within the lyrics they stated that In that bright land there ll be no hunger, no orphan children crying for bread, no weeping widows toil or struggle, no shrouds, no coffins, and no dead . They would like to go to a place with no depression. Some would say hope played a big factor during this time period, but hope could not be upheld if the goal is not reached. This New Deal never ended the economic drought that the U.S was stuck in. Many programs such as the Agriculture Adjustment Administration grew taxes and led to more starvation. Farmers killed off certain animals and crops as they were told to by the AAA. Many could not believe that the federal government was condoning such an action when many Americans were starving . Although there was a counter to this issue. The WPA did provide meals for hungry children. In the past year and a half 80,000,000 hot well balanced meals have been served at the rate of 500,000 daily in 10,00 schools throughout the country ( Woodward 4). This may have helped, but the hunger caused by the AAA could not be balanced by this act.No hope could bring the U.S back from what it had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Feudalism In Romantic Poetry A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are awake we have a world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world (Quoted by O Connell 35). As conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems have a close relationship with dream. However, as the definitions and characteristics are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term Romanticism . For instance, Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when defined by associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in romantic poetry according to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry cannot be defined with a linguistic entitle without considering the historical process (Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific period after the revolution in France and the Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started to spreed. For example, leaves with cold tone are depicted in the poem Ode to the West Wind as a representation for feudalism, which has been dying (Shelley Stanza.2), decaying (Stanza.2), and quivering (Stanza.3), while the fierce wind accompanying with rain awakens the Mediterranean and will drive the leaves away, implying the awareness of liberty has formed and revolutions are generating. In the end of this poem, Shelly proposes a prophesy that the tyranny of feudalism society will be replaced, arousing enthusiasm within the people. • 38. Setting For Treasure Island On The California Coast As I ease into the yellowish water, sandy running shoes around my neck and small dog wriggling under my arm, I become aware of a faint and unfamiliar sour musky odor. This better be worth it. I expect it will be. One time Sonoma County resident Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have developed the setting for Treasure Island on the California coast. For many of my generation and older, that is the tale that launched a thousand ships, pirate vessels all, in dreams of sudden and incalculable wealth. Decades later, any hope of sudden material wealth has slipped away like fog under a midmorning sun. But a greater wealth hinted at in the book remains, even if it is only attainable during the odd vacation week every year the wealth of enriching experience and wonder. Which brings me back to the Sonoma coast and Gualala Point Regional Park. The park is a County facility, and offers one of the shrinking number of public beaches where dogs are welcome. Provided they are on six foot leashes, that is. Such a diminishment of the dog s world is nothing compared to that of the snowy plover s. The plover is a six inch sandpiper, nearly invisible in its shoreline environment, whose very existence is uncertain due to development of California s coast and trampling of beaches and dunes and cryptic eggs in the sand. A dog s merry chase may seem harmless no bird caught, ever and yet still doom another chance for a tiny bird s future. So we were happy to be on the beach with our dogs, ...
