My Experience With Multiple Sclerosis
In my everyday world I don t think twice about how I am going to get through the day. Waking
up, getting dressed, and getting to school or work are very routine for me. I have been living life
without thinking about how those with disabilities get through their day. What struggles they
might see that I over look, such as brushing their teeth or eating a meal. So given the opportunity
to experience just how these individual s daily activities are with a neurological disorder helped
me see just how lucky I am. I have always been interested in the neurological aspect of therapy,
and so I decided to experience what it would be like to be someone with multiple sclerosis, or MS. I
have never been around anyone who has multiple sclerosis, so this was all new to me. Before I
could even begin to recreate multiple sclerosis I had to do some research on what it was. I found
that multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that disturbs the nervous system.1 Those who
have this disease have destroyed myelin sheaths, causing the brain to improperly send signals

Throughout the interactive oral, we discussed Neruda s beliefs and how they influenced his poetry.
Moreover, we discussed how these things not only influenced his writing style, but also his life.
Previously, I thought that I could not relate to Neruda because his beliefs differed very much from
mine. These beliefs clashed because Neruda is from a Latin American country that is communist,
and he is also a communist; while someone like me lives in the United States which is a democracy.
Following this, Neruda s work was easier to relate to than I had originally thought because he talks
about the Latin American struggle and gave his people a voice in poems such as United Fruit co.
when he names the American companies that took advantage of Chile and other Latin American
countries. In the IOQ, we as a class think communists are bad because of the way they are
displayed in the United States, but the IOQ helped me understand that Neruda was more than a
communist. Neruda was a person who used his platform, and took risks writing controversial
poems about the struggle of his people to give them a voice, and politics to expose the
corruptness of those leaders because they were not only taking advantage of their people but also
giving communism a negative connotation. Adding on, Neruda was a strong advocate for
communism which influenced his writing also even though he wrote about other communist
leaders such as Martinez and Trujillo, his love for communism was shown when he wrote the
ode to Fidel Castro. Neruda admires Castro because in his eves Fidel Castro does communism
the right way unlike Martinez and Trujillo who took advantage of their countries resources and
people. The way Neruda portrays Fidel Castro contradicts the way America portrays him because
Castro is characterized as a person who killed anyone that got in the way of his vision of a perfect
Cuba, While Neruda characterizes him as hero of communism because he did not corrupt his
people by letting American companies take over Cuba and take advantage of the people of Cuba.

In the animation Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi uses color in the beginning of the animation
during her present day life and black and white for flashbacks or her past life. The majority of
the animation is the story of Marjane s life in the past so it is in mostly black and white. This is

Marjane grew up in Iran during the Iran/Iraq war in the 1970s which creates a layer of

In recent years vaccines have been a major topic of discussion. While some people still think
having your children vaccinated against common illnesses such as chicken pox and the flu is
dangerous, I myself think it is perfectly fine to have your children vaccinated on the schedule
recommended by pediatricians. Some parents choose to have their children vaccinated on a
delayed schedule, which I still find acceptable. However, the parents who choose not to have their
children vaccinated at all are a danger to the public.
Unvaccinated people can cause outbreaks of viruses that have been eradicated. In late 2014 a
measles outbreak occurred when an unvaccinated child who was a carrier of the disease visited
Disneyland. This caused 173 people from seventeen different states to contract the virus that was
eradicated from the United States in 2002. In order for measles to be under control 94 99% of the
population must be vaccinated. With the recent trend of not vaccinating, measles, along with other
once eradicated, or nearly eradicated diseases are making a come back.

My interest in maternal mortality, morbidity, and health was first piqued by my mother, who has
always worked in the field. As I got older, I began to more completely grasp the topics that she

understand why women, the creators of life, do not receive more respect, or even regard, for the

Professor Sam Wineburg of Stanford University adamantly opposes the practice of schools
blocking students from certain websites and databases such as Wikipedia, Twitter, and Instagram.
Dr. Wineburg suggests that if students only have access to information chosen and filtered by the
institution, their ability to choose what to believe, and how to think will not develop. If students
do not have access to sites such as Wikipedia, once they are able to browse freely, they will be
unable to tell what is reliable. By imposing these restrictions, schools are failing to allow students to
think freely. More importantly, they are depriving students of furthering their intelligence by
choosing themselves what information is valid and what is not. These constraints essentially tell
students what to believe; therefore, once they go beyond classroom doors and browse freely, they
will be incapable of finding sources on their own. Furthermore, blockingsites only worsens the
spread of fake news, since students believe everything they read. I agree with Dr. Wineburg in that
schools should not blockcertain websites. Blocking students from sources or only allowing certain
online databases not only limits students ability to expand their knowledge, but harms their free
thinking and forces them to believe the information placed in front of them, ultimately contributing
to students spreading fake news.

such as a mobile phone, the user surf on a variety of e books and have read the contexts but they
are harder to remember the context and moreover, they read and forget.

It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh
devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing
both novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s

bereavement care by listening to patients, helping them express their emotions, and involving them
in the entire process. Nurses frequently tend to the emotional needs of their patients, but not their
own, which can result in nurse burn out. Nurses are expected to be resilient when it comes to death,
but when they sweep their emotions under the rug to get on with the day and are not given the
resources needed to grieve successfully, how can they achieve this?
