Judicial Branch Importance
Under the constitution of the United States we split the power of the government up into three
sections, Executive Legislative and Judicial. The Judicial Branch is one though of extreme importance
basically because it sets the standards of right and wrong in a sense. At the top of the Judicial branch
sits the Supreme Court which consists of 9 Justices, one supreme and 8 associate which could be
subject to change by congress (Brief Overview of the Supreme Court). There is one justice though
whom stands out when I think of the Supreme Court ant that is Earl Warren. A self made man, Chief
Justice Earl Warren transformed the judicial system during a tumultuous time for American politics.
(Oyez). Aside from his great accomplishments through American

Essay about French Baroque 1600c.e.-1750c.e.
French Baroque 1600 1750
Europe in the 1600s was at the end of Counter Reformation, and as the political and cultural shifts
took place, we begin to see art, particularly in France, influenced more and more, by the ruling
monarchy. The transition from Mannerism into Baroque is not clear, but eventually the arts started to
adopt a new look. And feel. Paintings started to become more exuberant, dynamic and ornamented.
The scale of work produced during this time increased dramatically. Where Mannerism marked a
departure from classical and realistic norms, Baroque becomes a return to these norms, but with an
emotional undertow and visual tension. However, through the Baroque pursuit of eloquence, it
abandoned the precious and contorted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light is always obscured by another element in the painting, which gives it a more dramatic, more
human feel, with greater depth. The emotional effect of this is very intimate and human. The
duplicitous nature of shadow and light in a La Tour painting could be seen as a metaphor for the good
and bad contained within human nature. It is also vague enough to be open to multiple interpretations.
In any interpretation this duality is almost given more importance than the subject matter.
The personality of Nicolas Poussin was contrary to La Tour, though both were very rational and
humanistic. Poussin sought to enter into the person of his subject, to become immersed in
psychological analysis. He combines his love of virtue and his love of landscape by placing tragic
figures in richly interesting and complexly constructed, heroic landscapes. He produced some of the
most demanding, yet satisfying landscape paintings in western culture. He believed passionately that
the disposition of the painting as a whole could be constructed to covey a mood or emotion. He also
had a unique combination of pagan and Christian themes, often giving a poetic treatment to subjects
from classic mythology and ancient history. Poussin was a classicist for whom the aesthetic values of
antiquity represented not only a formal ideal, but also a moral standard, a way conceiving a form that
cannot be separated from the good and true.

Fair Housing Laws
Fair Housing Laws: Chapter 22 The American dream, the right to own land, build a home, and start a
family. Unfortunately this was not always the case as Blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities were
discriminated from the early 60 s to the late 80 s and even still today. Segregation plagued the U.S.,
placing minorities in lower classes than whites, restricting certain rights and freedoms that our
constitution laid by our forefathers has been implemented to protect U.S. citizens. The Fifth,
Thirteenth, and Fourteenth amendment were implemented to protect American citizens. The
declaration says all men are created equal (Jacobus, 412), these amendments are in place to protect our
rights and keep us safe. The Fifth Amendment states that no person shall ....Be deprived of life, liberty,
or property without due process of law.... (Jacobus, 412) However even though we have these laws
here to protect us, discrimination plagued our country and did not grant rights to certain groups of
minorities because of skin color, race, or religion. Throughout our history there were many instances
of this unfairness, for example Jones v. Alfred H. Mayer Company. (Jacobus, 412) This case was a
huge breakthrough in the fight against segregation, saying that any form of discrimination is a badge
of slavery, (Jacobus, 412) and therefore violates the Thirteenth Amendment. The Supreme Court stated
that in enforcing the Civil Rights Act of 1866, Congress is empowered under the Thirteenth

Controversy Of Barbie
Despite the controversy faced through the years Barbie is an ever relevant and popular toy for young
children in America. The controversial topic of the matter being mostly dedicated to the appeal of
whether Barbie sends a good message to kids, or not. What most people tend to overlook about Barbie
is the reason and inspiration of her creation, the feminine cultivation she displays, and the diversity
and positivity of her life and personality. When Barbie is brought up the first thing people will think of
is her figure. With a tiny waist, slim legs, and particularly small hands and feet, this is the main tool
that people on the countercheck of Barbie s popularity use to attack the doll s positive features,
encouraging the idea that Barbie s unrealistic shape causes body image issues and insecurities in
young children; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barbie has had a role in over 130 different jobs. Some of these roles have included things like being
an astronaut. The first female astronaut was launched into space in 1963 and only two years
afterwards was Barbie released with a special female astronaut set. In 2008 a special edition of Barbie
was added where she herself was the president of the United States. Never in history has a woman
been elected president, making Barbie the first (Logos). She s definitely not shy of being open to new
opportunities. Barbie s own slogan is Be who you wanna be . This is important because it encourages
young children to become who they want to be and do what they desire to do, even if it means
breaking away from society s standards. In Ruth s own words, My whole philosophy of Barbie was
that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be. Barbie always represented the
fact that a woman has choices. ( Barbie History

Shipping American Jobs Overseas Essay
Shipping American Jobs Overseas Did you know that the nation has lost more than 2.5 million
manufacturing jobs and more than 850,000 professional service and information sector jobs, due to
overseas shipping since 2001? (Aflcio) It is clear to me that some big business companies don t value
the protection of employees very highly. By some big business, ill single one out and state that
Goldman Sachs has shipped approximately 500,000 American jobs overseas in the past few years.
That s about half of the total net job loss during these past years (Aflcio). This shows that companies
are reluctant to stay in American and scared of the current economic situation. It upsets me to see

should receive those tax cuts. Financials have revealed that oversea companies receive government
procurement contracts worth billions of dollars along with their tax breaks. Not only are these
businesses getting cuts on their finances they get financial aid to help them. This money comes from
American taxpayers, and it goes towards a business that does not provide any help towards the country
that is assisting it (Aflcio). The jobs that they do offer are located halfway around the world; this does
no good for the hard working American. These taxpayer financed benefits usually come with very few
strings attached; allowing companies to skim additional profits by performing publicly funded work
overseas (Aflcio). I believe that, in this day and age, companies are always trying to take advantage of
the government and find loop hole. Laws concerning the distribution of government procurement
should be reformed to not encourage the shipping of jobs overseas, but to promote the growth of a
business in America with the assistance of government procurements paid for by the taxpayers who
live in the country.
Forlini 3 To solve these problems I believe that we need to remove other incentives to ship jobs
overseas by taking away the benefits of doing so. One way to remove incentive of shipping jobs
would be to implement a national health care system that would benefit the business, so health care

The Role of the Visual in Today s Society Essay
The Role of the Visual in Today s Society
The role of the visual in today s society is quite apparent. Beautiful, flashy images are everywhere in
the media, and all of them serve the same purpose. The purpose of all of these images is to get you,
the consumer to buy the product that is being sold, or at least buy into the idea that a particular product
represents. The role of the visual in modern architecture is very much the same. The purpose of the
visual in modern architecture is to publicize or privatize a building through any media necessary to
create the desired representation, and thereby sell the idea. In the case of Le Corbusier, the goal was to
create a very visual and public architecture. He recognized that not ... Show more content on

The few original pictures that Corbusier took of this building are what actually put Villa Savoye on the
map as an architectural achievement. The images speak of movement, seen in the ramp. They
demonstrate the progression one would take from the ground to the roof, and from there to the vast
expanse beyond. They also speak of the temporality of the building, as if it just happened to be there
when Corbusier was walking by and decided to take this picture. There is also an inherent lack of
privacy common to all of the images. It is as if the whole world can look inside of the building and see
what the occupants are doing, which is precisely what Corbusier wanted. Thus he took them and
published the images, which were then distributed all around the world. He also mad a movie of the
building called L Architecture d aujour hui (1929), which demonstrated his voyeuristic approach to
how architecture should be seen. Villa Savoye, for example, is an apparatus (like a cinema) that
privileges the eye over the body, movement over stasis, and fragmentation over unity. Every window
is a lens, a purely visual opening; circulation is a poetic event of movement, orchestrated by ramps
and spiral stairways; the house acts as a dynamic and shifting catalyst to experience, not as a static and
finite center of experience. Publishing these images, and the making of the movie ended up making
Villa Savoye possibly the most public building of the time, and one of the most popular buildings

Structure Of Eleven By Sandra Cisneros
Structure of Essay Eleven Sandra Cisneros story Eleven is an influential piece about the struggle of
Rachael on her eleventh birthday. Rachael is a young girl who is harassed with understanding how to
feel about her birthday, a day which is delightful for most but not for her. She fights through her age
and maturity to be understood, but fails. Told from an insightful first person Eleven contains simplistic
diction and a good use of similes to characterize Rachael as a neglected and sad girl with an advanced
outlook on birthdays Rachael starts by talking about how people carry every year with them. She says
some days you might say something stupid and that s the part of you that s still ten, or one day you
may need to sit on your mama s lap because you re scared and that s the part of you that s five . What
she s trying to say about aging is that people are made up of their years like the rings of an onion or

She wishes that she was one hundred and two in order to tell the teacher that the ugly sweater with red
plastic buttons was not hers. Rachael s assertion that she wished to be 102 years old is an odd age for a

to the teacher when telling her it is not her shirt but she is held back from this parameter of age. As she
goes back to her child form, Rachael describes what seems to be a simple sweater, as hideous and
disgusting. She says as she opens her eyes the red sweater is still sitting there like a big red mountain .
It is clear Rachael does not want to be associated with such a disgraceful item. Cisneros Characterizes
Rachael as a girl with different views than most eleven year old girls through a well use of diction and

Diane Arbus And Dorothea Lange
Before starting this project, I knew very little about photography, photographers, or exactly how much
impact photographical images have had on our society. I have never taken a photography class, or
researched too in depth about specific pictures or photographers. This project has allowed me to delve
deeper into the world of photography in order to understand just how much influence pictures can
have over society s beliefs, emotions, and understandings . I have have chosen two highly influential
photographers, Diane Arbus and Dorothea Lange, who I have found to both resonate with me and
perfectly capture human emotions in way that moves others. Diane Arbus was a photographer in the
1950 s and 60 s. Starting out as a fashion photographer, Arbus quickly moved on to photographing
more impactful pictures, usually of societal outsiders ( The Cost of Diane, 2016). With striking images
of freaks, as she once named her subject, Arbus perfectly depicted feelings of loneliness and struggles
with identity. I believe Arbus resonates with me so much because of her uncanny ability to showcase
such complex and intense human emotions through photography repeatedly. Each picture tells a
different story with different struggles, yet each share emotions so commonly felt. These unalike, yet
similar photographs each hold a piece of personal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Crime
In the United States 10,000 robberies occur daily, 3,200 of those robbery victims are never given
justice. Of those 3,200 victims, most are still looking for justice because they had under 200 dollars
worth of goods stolen. In the state of Pennsylvania if a robber takes less that 200 dollars of goods it is
only a misdemeanor charge, which has little impact on a permanent record. In my opinion, any
robbery should be charged as a felony in the first degree, accompanied by a permanent mark on a
record, as well as, a fine and possible jail time. Our community contains a suburban area, with rural
areas close, which seems to leave many by robberies without charges and free in our community. In a
big city, only 25 percent of robbers go free without charge. Although in a suburban area, which much
of which our school district includes, 30 percent of robberies escape without charge. In the more rural
areas the percentage is even higher, a recorded 41 percent rate of no charge. With less robbers charged,
it increases the chance for them to do it again and at a more dangerous level. It does not matter to a
victim as to the reason a robber might be left on the street, the result is people are left in fear of being
a victim to a crime. As a victim of a robbery, I understand all to well leaving with fear of a theft.

environment when my home was robbed. Two men pried open

Survival In Frances Goodrich s The Diary Of Anne Frank
A human s natural instinct to survive can be so powerful that he/she will strain every nerve to win this
battle of survival. This is probable in The Diary of Anne Frank play by Frances Goodrich and Albert
Hackett, for Anne s family during World War II. First, Anne and her family are forced to go into
hiding and share a tiny house with four other people. Second, during their time in the Annex, they
have to make many sacrifices and they had to develop self control just to survive. Lastly, the people
who are hiding in the Annex, have to think about others before themselves and they should not be
greedy and selfish. In the end, people will always do what they must to survive. Anne s family gives

Anne has to share her room with a complete stranger. At this point in time, there are eight people
living in the Annex and the space is very cramped now. Later on, Mr. Frank tells the others About the

The Vascular Species Of Flora Essay
The naturalised vascular species of flora throughout New Zealand at present has similar totals to the
native species (Williams Cameron, 2006), and newly naturalised species are being discovered at an
increasing rate (Howell, 2008). Approximately 19% of all naturalised species are presently recorded as
environmental weeds (Howell, 2008). Unfortunately, these statistics can, incorrectly, give the
impression that New Zealand environments are inundated with an abundance of diverse weeds.
Rather, the majority of naturalised plants, together with weeds, still inhabit a mere fraction of the wild
land habitats throughout New Zealand (Williams Wiser, 2004). In the centuries to come, it is predicted
that weeds and other naturalised floras will increasingly occupancy areas of New Zealand, even for
millenniums as has appeared to have occurred with Europe s naturalised plants (Pysek Jarosik, 2005).
The general origins of naturalised flora species were as decorative garden and feature plants (Howell,
2008), as such they commonly are present near human settlements (Timmins Williams, 1991). When
random wild land sites were surveyed few, if any, environmental weed species are generally found
(Sullivan, Williams, Timmins, 2006). This suggests that environmental weeds are generally in the
initial stages of infiltration into New Zealand s environments, thus, there is an opportunity to curb
further dispersal. Methods of long distance dispersal differ among environmental weed and

Crayfish Resting Membrane Potential Essay
The purpose of this experiment was to test the hypothesis that the crayfish resting membrane potential
is primarily dependent on the potassium ion concentration gradient. Our approach to testing this
hypothesis involves taking intracellular recordings using an IWX/214 interface, iWorx and LabScribe
software, and a Model 3100 electrometer complete with a head stage, ground electrode, glass
microelectrodes, and micromanipulator. The study organism used for this experiment involved the
abdominal extensor muscles of adult Orconectes rusticus. One sample t tests were conducted on the
resulting membrane potentials and their corresponding predicted values, taken from the Nernst
Equation. The results of the statistical analysis rejected the null hypothesis only for some potassium
gradient concentrations, and while there might be enough evidence to suggest that there is a
relationship between the potassium gradient concentration and crayfish resting membrane potential,
we cannot conclude from this experiment a primarily dependent relationship.

gradient and resting membrane potential, we are not addressing other permeable ions that might also
have an influence. While this particular topic is still under debate, Tomasz Sokalski et. al. suggested in
their study, Numerical Solution of the Coupled Nernst Planck and Poisson Equations for Liquid
Junction and Ion Selective Membrane Potentials , that while the Nernst Planck model is proposed to
be a more appropriate platform for dealing with the theory of ion selective membrane electrodes for
analytical applications, it can be shown that interpreting the electrical potential of plasma membranes
exclusively in terms of boundary potential at steady state is incorrect (Sokalski et. al.

Titanium has played a successful biomaterial in biomedical application especially for orthopedics
(bone anchoring systems), dentistry, drug delivery, and nanotherapeutics in treating bone cancer and
arthritis. One of the treatments of bone cancer patients is the replacement of cancerous bone with
implant material. The current implant materials have implemented coating technology (such as
Calcium phosphate or hydroxyapatite) which gives good cytocompatibilty but over the time it gets
encapsulated with the surrounding bone cells and lead to poor osseointegration. An augment of current

This indicate the TNA may result in modification of the cellular protein lead to clustering or
aggregation and this could explain the variations in the cells shape and spreading behaviours that we
observed earlier. Our preliminary result suggested the interaction of the TNA surfaces with bound
cells may induce structural and cellular changes could be due to the surface roughness, chemistry and
wettability that may count as the cell interaction factors. Therefore, we would like to suggest further
detail study of genomic and proteomic test that can help us to explain this phenomenon. We would
also like to screen several oncogene and tumor suppressor gene expression in order to study the
potential carcinogenesis effect of this material.
2. OBJECTIVES
2.1 To evaluate the differential in telomere length of the cells grown on the TNA and the test control
materials.
2.2 To measure the expression of telomerase activity in the cells that grown on the TNA and test
control materials.
2.3 To study the TNA effect on the genetic changes using metaphase spread technique and
immunoblot for the protein changes in looking the potential anticancer properties.
2.4 To screen the possible oncegene expression or tumor suppressor gene product of the cells grown

Roman Catholic Faith Affected My Life
There are currently more than one billion Roman Catholic citizens on the planet right now. I consider
myself immensely fortunate to be a part of such an extensive community of people that are together
because of God. Being Catholic has opened doors for me to see the world differently than if I wasn t
Catholic. My entire life would be mismatched if I wasn t Catholic. My faith affects many aspects of
my life such as my actions and decisions. The school that I go to, the friends that I have made, and
what I do on Sunday are all affected by the fact that I practice the Roman Catholic faith. Being
Catholic has had a positive influence on how I live my life and how I survey the world. Being
Catholic has made just about every part of my life different. The schools that I have gone to since first
grade have been Catholic schools. The friends that I have made are because I am Catholic, and I also
go to church almost every Sunday. The impact that my faith has had on my life is not comprehensible.
Activities like praying to God and asking him for help has just become second nature because of how
often I do it. In a single school day I participate in at least four different prayers. Some people look at

The host he indicated must remember that every guest has a gift to offer. The guests may first have
been strangers but through interaction and engaging in the lives of the stranger, they are soon
recognized as guests. The book identified three specific types of hosts: parents, teacher, and helping
professionals. The hosts now have different thoughts and feeling about their guests (Nouwen, 1986).
Parents view their children as the most precious gift, teachers now realizes that their students have
great potential, and helping professional are able to provide a safe environment for their patients
(Nouwen, 1986).
The third movement is from illusion to prayer. Nouwen (1986) indicated that most people live their
lives in an illusion that they will never die. They believe that they hold the key to all that happens in
their lives. They do not put God first in their lives and they do not realize that God is in control of
every aspect of their lives. There are three essentials elements to a fulfilling prayer life; the Bible,
silence, and spiritual guide (Nouwen, 1986). Reading the Bible, and being silence as we mediate on
the word of God. We gain understanding through the power of the Holy Spirit. These spiritual
references are able to help us work through the challenges we may encounter.
The conclusion of the book mentions the importance of spiritual guidance, and the importance of
prayer. Prayer is not only to be done is solitude, but

Comparing Anton Chekhov s The Lady With The Dog
Anton Chekov s personal life shaped his writing immensely. The plotline of Chekov s story, The Lady
with the Dog is based on his life experiences. On the 25th of May in 1901, Chekov married his wife
Olga Knipper, a stage actress. Together they maintained a long distance relationship; Chekov was
living mainly in Yalta and Olga in Moscow as she continued to seek her acting career (Hingley).
While Chekov and Olga remained separated, they continued to uphold a stable marriage as they lived
apart for most of the year. Chekov wrote The Lady with the Dog during the time of their separation,

Chekov uses the color grey to evoke feelings of depression, sadness and loneliness. The color grey is
often affiliated with negative or dark moods. Chekov intended to utilize this color in major moments
and scenarios that take place during times of sorrow, and emotional dissatisfaction with Gurov s
current romantic state. However, grey is neither black nor white, but rather it is somewhere in
between. The color creates some complications because it is a mixture of two contrasting ideas, white
is more lively while black is mysterious. This enhances the theme of the story that dissatisfaction is

Likewise, Amburgey was so overcome with hate that he sabotages evidence of the crimes. At the end
of the text Amburgey s action are discovered, We discovered it was Amburgey breaking into the

wanted it to be, he altered the record to make it appear that way [...] One sin lead to another (Cornwell

he found a way to discard her he could not stop. He was overcome by hatred that he was willing to

compromise the entire case, what mattered was making Scarpetta look incompetent. Therefore, the
text has a positive view of females by having men do more atrocious acts while overcome with
emotion. Similarly, Marino was so irrational and stubborn he would not look past the husband as a
possible suspect in the crimes. Before taking Scarpetta to see the police tapes he went back to Peterson
to harass him once more, When I dropped by the other day he [did not] invite me in. Just stood in the

The Pros And Cons Of Public Administration
Cohen s theory is centered around the difficulties faced in the administration of public good and the
delivery of services to the general population. He examines the best devices for use in taking care of
the issue that arises. His position also infers the need to utilize gifted open administrators that will be
compelling in their assignments through innovativeness and development. These new thoughts are
designed to take care of the issue with the administration in the twentieth century. Alternate attributes
laid out by Cohen for people in general directors are the capacity to think basically and shape
occasions. The motivation behind why Cohen incorporates this contention is that in the contemporary
past, open administrators have been liable to the occasions happening around the general population
comforts. They have not possessed the capacity to fight these occasions and in the most cases,
occasions tend to assume control over the control. He likewise contends that the picture of the general
population administrators is portrayed on their ability. Cohen closes contentions by the certainty of
general society supervisors and how it is vital in taking care of the issues that they face in their
exercises. Cohen bases this contention with the Vietnam War (Cohen, 2013). The friendly
administration is the primary part of any legislature. The skill of an administration can be utilized as a
measure to evaluate how robust the legislature is in broad daylight administration issues.

Marble Building In Acropolis
According to Fred S. Kleiner (2014), the Parthenon was the Periclean s building program on the
Acropolis. This huge marble building was dedicated to Athena Parthenos though it was not a temple
because it did not have a priestess or an altar for her worship. However, it is the most beautiful
building in Acropolis. It took approximately 15 years (447 432 B.C.E) to build this magnificent
marble building, furthermore, excellent scholars visual illusion was applied into this building. As the
emblematic birthplace of Western democracy, philosophy, theatre, freedom of expression and speech,
the Athenian Acropolis is the most sacred and the most universally acclaimed. According to Peter

T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land The Most Influential Work in Modern Literature
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land is considered by many to be the most influential work in modern
literature. First published in 1922, it captures the feelings and sentiments of modern culture after
World War I. Line thirty of The Waste Land, I will show you fear in a handful of dust, is often viewed
as a symbol of mankind s fear of death and resulting love of life. Eliot s masterpiece with its
revolutionary ideas inspired writers of his era, and it continues to affect writers even today.
In the first two lines of The Waste Land, Eliot says, April is the cruellest month, breeding/Lilacs out of
the dead land (l. 1 2). Eliot shows the connection between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everyone appreciates life after suffering the death of someone close to him. After the death of
Mary, Ade is forced to leave the mission. A few weeks later, Santigie must also return home after the
death of his father, Chief Bombolai. The Brothers Three, seemingly separated forever, are not
appreciating life more than they did before. Each boy is dead to the others; none of them believe they
will ever see each other again. After several months, however, the Brothers Three are reunited. They
promise to always stay together, and each boy has an optimistic outlook on life again.
Eliot s own pessimism toward life amid the destruction of World War I is evident throughout most of
the poem. He uses many dark images to suggest death and brokenness, but Eliot contrasts those
depictions with pictures of life and energy. In the second stanza of section one, Eliot vividly describes
a desert wasteland. A few lines later in the same stanza, he depicts a young hyacinth girl (l. 37) and a
lush garden full of flowers. These two contrasting images of life and death are mirrored in the final
pages of No Past No Present No Future. Ade and Bodil move Denmark after their engagement. A few
days before the wedding, Bodil receives a letter informing her of Ade s affair with another woman.
Throughout their relationship leading up to this point, Bodil has stuck by Ade s side and been his life
support; without her, things would

Us Post Ww2 Essay
The primary motivation seems to be to increase the strength of the domestic economy by first
expanding overseas and facilitating as many countries as possible to trade with the US. Indeed, the US
wanted to help rebuild Europe in order to build good markets for US not for humanitarian reasons.
The clearest example of this comes from Assistant secretary of state Dean Acheson whilst testifying
before a special congressional committee on post war planning. He stated When you look at the
problem... it is a problem of markets. This seems to be the clearest indication of the US s motives,
especially given the nature of the hearing. Gaddis claims that The policies they actually followed did

The USSR and the eastern bloc represented a serious obstacle to this and one can see how these
Imperialist tendencies caused an inevitable clash with the USSR as they represented an obstacle to the
aim of reformation of global capitalism to facilitate trade with the US. The USSR posed a real threat
to US economic hegemony hence a standoff between the two was in many ways inevitable due to the
US aggressively searching for new markets. The US was keen to assert American influence in eastern
Europe by demanding free elections, breaking the Percentages Agreement. Conversely Stalin had
upheld his side of the Agreement in regard to the Greek communists. Stalin would have viewed all
these actions as an attempt by the US to reorganise the governments in Eastern Europe to align with
the open door policy and to coerce the USSR into accepting US policies. The US also orchestrated
riots over soviet spheres of influence as pointed out by Williams. The repressive attitudes undertaken
by Stalin, such political repressions in Bulgaria and Poland can be seen as a reaction to the US trying
to intrude in on their sphere of influence and these measures were a defensive

Visit To Temecula, California
I chose Temecula, California because I have always dreamed to visit Temecula. Temecula, California,
a Large city in the southwestern region of the state, is known for skating, wineries, and shopping.
Temecula also has a lot of historical sites to visit. This would be an educational and fun trip.
There is many historical sites in Temecula, California for instance Old Town Temecula, Peltzer farm,
Temecula berry company, and Old Town Temecula jail you know the little things that Temecula is
known for. These sites are all small individual historic structures, but they re what makes up

Temecula is a large city of 106,780 people. That is a lot bigger than what I am use to, Ste.Genevieve,
Missouri there is only 4,405 people. That is not a lot compared to Temecula California. This city has

The Divine Comedy vs. Paradise Lost
Full Circle – from Sin to Salvation
Great works of literature have been written throughout history. However, The Divine Comedy and
Paradise Lost have the inept ability to stir the soul and cause a person to examine and re examine their
life. The brilliant descriptions, use of imagery, metaphor and simile give a person a vivid picture of the
creation of man and the possibilities for life in the hereafter. This is done, as a person is able to see,
full circle, from the beginning of time to the end of time, the consequences of turning away from God.
The ability to see a life full circle is apparent through the examination of both of these poems.

climbing down the body of Satan and climbing through the opening known as the earth s center of

After a short hike, they arrive at ante purgatory, which was the area designated for those who died
without receiving full repentance or without receiving the holy sacrament before their death. After
ante purgatory, they enter purgatory, where an angel inscribed the letter P seven times on Dante s
forehead. Each letter represented one of the seven deadly sins. Those seven sins include pride, envy,
anger, sloth, avarice, gluttony, and lust. Each P will be erased as Dante travels through the areas that
were reserved for those who had committed each of the seven sins. As each P is erased by an angel
from Dante s forehead, the journey becomes easier and easier for Dante.
In Purgatory, even though people inhabit different levels, they are able to eventually move on to
heaven if they receive enough prayer to rid them of their sins. The seventh terrace is the highest level
of purgatory. When Virgil and Dante finally reach that terrace, they must pass through a

Character Analysis Of Dee s Everyday Use
As one of the vital characters in Everyday Use, Dee characterizes what every young adult finding
themselves can relate to. She is very comfortable in her skin as the story unfolds and is one that many
cling to. Although very popular with others she does not exhibit this same quality with her family.
Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return different in
many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes in life she still
had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in Everyday Use, as a
new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs to connect with her
heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the short story as she evolves
to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of the past she so desperately
sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self centered. She displays this initially
during the burning of the first house. While her sister is trapped in the house by fire and being rescued
by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for
others. Where the average person in the same position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of
assistance she clearly is only concerned about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship
between Dee and the other main characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when
she returns home she has no regard for others. When Dee returns home she immediately comes in and
begins claiming things that belong to other family members without concern for them or their wanting
of those items. This is most significantly noted in the mention of the quilt that actually had been
promised to Maggie. Despite already having been promised to Maggie, Dee claims the quilt as her
own then gives reason, which she somehow feels are valid, as a way of staking claim of the quilt. `
Although Mama stood up for Maggie during the attempted claiming of the quilt when Mama describes
Dee we can see that she almost excuses Dee for being the way she is. This notion is made apparent as
Mama starts by describing

Bust Of St Lawrence Essay
A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently
attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the
Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art
(Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple
angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of
librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17).
Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the
artistic techniques of the Classical.
During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a
result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by
containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical
Greeks. His ears are partially covered because it is a challenge to sculpt ears in such a way that is
anatomically correct. Proportion is achieved in the facial features; the eyes, nose, and lips all appear
relative to each other in size. There is proper depth in the face; the eyes are slightly inset, the nose ...

The bust has a slight tilt in the shoulders, reminiscent of the contrapposto found within the classical
art, which allows for a less two dimensional image, suited for more angles. Rounded sides and depth
in the shoulders and arms also create a three dimensional appearance. Furthermore, the back has
significant detail; the hair is styled and flayed cords dangle. This back has slightly degraded with age
so even more detail could have existed but been lost. Overall, the design meets the visual goals of
Renaissance and classical sculptors

Examples Of Group Dynamics In 12 Angry Men
It s Possible : How Group Dynamics Affect their Outcomes
As the courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men celebrates its 60th anniversary, there is no doubt to why it
remains a cinematic classic. Its strategic cinematography, accurate perceptions of human character,
and topical issues creates an exposure of group dynamics that is still relevant today. As we see Henry
Fonda s character, Juror #8, swing the verdict of a trial away from an 11 1 vote against the defendant
to a consensus for his freedom, many different elements of organizational behaviour are displayed.
How the group forms, acts, and interacts as time progresses are attributed to a multitude of internal
and external factors. Despite the simplicity of setting and premise, 12 Angry Men remains a beloved
film. It s authenticity of human behaviour, particularly in relation to conformity, team interaction, and
leadership, resonates with its audience as it tries to, as Juror #3 would say, talk about facts. Ultimately,
12 Angry Men s cinematographic balance of realism and sentimentalism in its story aptly summate the
struggles of the characters as they overcome the obstacles of group conflicts while addressing their
own moral qualms.
There are two important group development stages that occur in 12 Angry Men. The movie s
characters and tone is set during the forming stage, where the characters are first introduced into the
team. During this stage, the members ask themselves Can my needs be met at the same time that I
contribute to the group? Juror #7 makes his needs clear when he states we can get all get out of here
pretty quick...I happen to have tickets to that ball game tonight . By informing the group that he has
motivation to leave, he is likewise inferring that his commitment to the group will be low. Similarly in
this stage, the members learn more about each other and their personalities. Juror #3 sets himself as a
self titled experienced and pragmatic juror, telling others that I ve sat on many juries...I d slap those
tough kids down before they start any trouble. Consequently, as the jurors reveal more about each
other, the characters develop a solid inference on each other s individual personalities, and thus can

The Renaissance And Elizabethan Era
The Renaissance and Elizabethan era were vital times in the rebirth of the lost art form of Greek and
Roman times: Acting/Playwriting. During the Elizabethan era, playhouses formed to fill the void.
There was four main theaters during that time, but one shined brighter than the rest. That one was
known as the Globe theater. As many others were built, the Globe Theater was built on the south bank
of the River Thames. It was erected around 1599 and was created for Lord Chamberlin s men, who
bought and owned the theater until they moved it across the river. With the creation of this theater, a

playwright of all time. Shakespeare is likely responsible for the creation of over three dozen plays, in

Shakespeare was one of the most popular playwrights of this time and often if you were going to go

The Gettysburg Address
The Impact of the Gettysburg Address on the United States
The speech we now know as the Gettysburg Address was given to consecrate the fallen soldiers in the
bloodiest battle of the Civil War. It is known as one of the most influential speeches ever and has been
recognized in hindsight as pivotal in the outcome of the war. Its brevity and poetry emphasized
America s original dream, the importance of equality, and the opportunity for a new birth of freedom,
a message which continues to be of relevance today.
The Gettysburg Address was powerful because each word was thought out and was meaningful to
Lincoln. It was on November 19, 1863, when Lincoln delivered the speech after the battle of
Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was the most demoralizing battle of the Civil war between the
Union and the Confederacy, with over 50,000 casualties in just three days. Lincoln spoke at the
ceremonies honoring the brave Union soldiers after Edward Everett, a famous orator who spoke for
two hours. In contrast Lincoln captivated his crowd for just over two minutes with a mere 272 words.
He was concise and to the point while also poetic. Everett is known to have sent Lincoln a letter after
the ceremony that said; I should be glad, if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea
of the occasion, in two hours, as you did in two minutes. Lincoln repeated words that he wanted to
emphasize; we, dedicated, and nation. He stressed these words to make his message clearer.

A Hanging and A Tell-Tale Heart
Within a short story, there is usually an obstacle that the main character has to persevere through.
Between the characters of the guard from George Orwell s A Hanging and the servant from Edgar
Allen Poe s A Tell Tale Heart , they both experience the act of taking another person s life. The guard
from A Hanging works at a prison in Burma where felons await execution. His job is to lead the
convicted men to their doom and makes sure everything goes routinely and swift. While the servant
from A Tell Tale Heart is a psychopathic man who lets his obsession over his boss s glasseye lead him

As shown, the guard finds it hard to accept the justifications for killing. He sees life as something
precious and feels that even if the option to end someone s life is there, using it would be inhumane.
On the other hand, in the story of The Tell Tale Heart it is clearly shows that the servant has no regard
for life. He states that whenever [the eye] fell upon me, my blood ran cold (Poe 1). This very gradually
(Poe 1) led him to the point where he made up [his] mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid
[himself] of the eye forever (Poe 1). This alone displays that the servant considers life as something
that is simply disposable because he sees one flaw in the old man. He feels that the only way to be
able to be satisfied is to get rid of what is bothering him. When it comes to both of these characters,
their views on apply death are completely different. The guard sees that there is something wrong with
ending the life ofsomeone who is completely healthy, while the servant feels that life is something that
could be cut short and ended without a second though. Finally, both protagonists differ in the way they
react to the deaths. For the prison guard as soon as the killing took place an enormous relief had come
upon [them] now that the job was done (Orwell 34 35). The killing causes such a burden on him and
the rest of the staff because it was their duty as guards, they never have any say as to if they could

His attempt to construct the sciences on a secure metaphysical foundation was not as successful as his

These laid down two distinct lines of Enlightenment thought: the moderate variety, following

Courage In The Film, Pursuit Of Happyness, And WALL-E
Courage, determination and perseverance all relate together. In my opinion you can t have one without
the other, and you can relate these three things to any aspects of your life whether you are in a low
point in your life or on top of the world. You won t have a life lesson where none of these three words
are related to that life lesson, and that goes for both movies. Chris was taught to always fight for what
you want and don t ever give up, and WALL E fought for making earth a better place and he never
gave up. In the movie Pursuit of Happyness, these three words are expressed I think as best as
possible. My definition of courage is taking a bet on your bravery towards an event that would change
your result. Harvard did an article on the steps of learning courage as a skill and using it in situations.
One main step I saw in the article was Setting Goals which would be the reason that you are going to
act courage s Chris had a lot of courage to live out on the street, while having to sell his scanners for
some money and having to be an intern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his wife leaving him to go to New York for a job she got over there. So, for him to continue to live

courage in his mind and body to get out there and fix his life. Now, to

The Synthesis Of 13 Butadienes
CHAPTER TWO RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
2.1 Synthesis of 1,3 butadienes
Dienes can be synthesised from aldehydes and ketones using the Wittig reaction. The Wittig reaction
facilitates the synthesis of new carbon carbon double bonds at specific locations in aldehydes and
ketones (Bernard Ford, 1983). The overall reaction mechanism is shown in Figure 1.
Protocols for synthesising 1,3 butadienes from aldehydes and ketones have been established in the
literature. The synthesis protocol proposed by Greatrex et al. (2014) was used and reactions using
several aldehydes (cinnamaldehyde, piperonaldehyde, and 2 chloro benzaldehyde) were successfully
performed to synthesise the required butadienes 1, 2, and 3, Scheme 2.
The general approach involved transforming the aldehydes at the site of the carbonyl group. Use of an
appropriate triphenylphosphonium halide (methyl for cinnamaldehyde, and allyl for piperonal and 2
chloro benzaldehyde) afforded the correct 1,3 butadiene. Deprotonation of the triphenylphosphonium
halide was achieved using potassium tert butoxide reacted under an atmosphere of nitrogen. An
observable colour change was observed on addition of the triphenylphosphonium halide to the solvent,
and subsequently on the addition of an aldehyde. Reactions were followed by thin liquid
chromatography (TLC), and the butadienes were purified via chromatography (1 and 2 via column
chromatography, and 3 via dry flash chromatography). Both the e and z isomers of the butadienes

New York Vs South Compare And Contrast
New York has been prodigious. You should have tagged along with me. New York is incredibly
different to the South. I have visited so many places. I have visited factories, and other cities. It is just
incredible how different the North and South are. But I truly think that the South is better in many
reasons.
Compared to the South the North is for sure a lot colder. People here told me that the weather that they
get is warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. I truly love the snow but the only problem is
that we couldn t make profit with our plants because the region has rocky hills and most of the land is
infertile. The economy here is by far different. They have industries, shipping, textiles, lumbers, furs,
and mining. They use the

Comparing Two Photos
When I was little, one of my favorite things to draw was my house. I don t know why I loved it so
much, but I loved drawing my yard and how big my house was. Something about drawing my home
was special to me. As I looked through the website, there were many well drawn and colored pictures
but two stuck out the most to me. These two students that drew these pictures where asked to draw a
picture of where they live. The pictures are similar in many ways as well as different in many ways.
Image A was drawn in 2004 by a 6 8 year old female. In this picture, she drew her house starting on
the baseline of the paper, which shows she is in the symbol making stage. Her house is a blue square
with a black triangle as the roof. Her house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Image B shows a visual element of line. The lines of the house are straight, smooth and firm. It is easy
to tell they took their time while trying to draw the house, while image A s lines are more curved and
loose. It looks like they didn t use a ruler or worry about how straight their lines were. Image B also
used her lines to show depth, for example on the house she made it 3D to let us viewers see the depth
of her house. Image A does not use line to show depth. Instead, she drew her lines to show the viewers
the front of the house and only the front. Although image A is more of a free drawing picture, I think it
has more details in the picture. Image A has windows on the house and she show her flag pole next to
the house, yet image B has no windows on the house and nothing in the yard. Another difference in
the drawings is the backgrounds. Image A does not have background, grass or sky but image B has a
yard full of grass, a sky and clouds. Within these images, you can tell image A is in the symbol making
stage and image B is in the preadolescent stage. Image A draws their picture on the baseline of the
paper and the sizing of the objects are not accurate. Such as, the door is too big for the house while the
roof is too small. Both of these are characteristics of the symbol making stage. However, image B s
baseline has disappeared and their objects are all accurate showing they are in the preadolescent stage.
As stated earlier as a similarity, both images used stereotypical objects. However, it is also a difference
because image B uses less stereotypical objects and features within the house showing they are a stage
ahead of image A. Lastly, the difference between the two images is image A is made with crayon and
image B is made with color

Case Study: Condo Sales Case A. Brief introduction to the case This case involves an investigation of
the factors that affect the sale price of oceanside condominium units. The sales data were obtained for
a new oceanside condominium complex consisting of two adjacent and connecting eight floor
buildings. The complex contains 200 units of equal size (approximately 500 square feet each).
Variables Dependent variable 1. Sale price: Y Independent variables 1. Floor height: x1 2. Distance

iii) The hypotheses of interest concern the interaction parameter β10. Specifically, H0: β10 = 0 Ha:
β10 0 Test statistic: t = 1.378, p value = 0.170, respectively. The lower tailed p value, obtained by
dividing the two tailed p value in half, is 0.170/2 = 0.085. Since we are testing using α = 0.1, α
exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of the sale price of the
condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3) decreases ; that is x2 and x3
interact positively. Thus, it appears that the interaction term should be included in the model.
Therefore the new multiple regression model is: E(y) = 198.934 6.474 x1 5.746 x2 + 58.666 x3 21.678
x4 + 0.872 x12 + 0.533x22 0.264 x1x2 5.93 x1x3 + 0.92 x2x3 C. Insight for business decision making
Regression models are very useful in determination of important statistics in the corporate world. For
instance, multiple regression models can be used to determine whether advertising, product loyalty, or
price is the most important determinant of business growth. With this information, businesses are able
to focus their resources into the channels which will help them achieve their targets effectively. It can
also be used to calculate the predicted mileage for a vehicle with respect to different possible variables
such as weight of vehicle, age of vehicle, and climate of country. Car manufacturers can capitalize on

The Judicial Branch is one though of extreme importance basically because it sets the standards of right and wrong in a sense. At the top of the Judicial branch sits the Supreme Court which consists of 9 Justices, one supreme and 8 associate which could be subject to change by congress (Brief Overview of the Supreme Court). There is one justice though whom stands out when I think of the Supreme Court ant that is Earl Warren. A self made man, Chief Justice Earl Warren transformed the judicial system during a tumultuous time for American politics. (Oyez). Aside from his great accomplishments through American ... French Baroque 1600 1750 Europe in the 1600s was at the end of Counter Reformation, and as the political and cultural shifts took place, we begin to see art, particularly in France, influenced more and more, by the ruling monarchy. The transition from Mannerism into Baroque is not clear, but eventually the arts started to adopt a new look. And feel. Paintings started to become more exuberant, dynamic and ornamented. The scale of work produced during this time increased dramatically. Where Mannerism marked a departure from classical and realistic norms, Baroque becomes a return to these norms, but with an emotional undertow and visual tension. However, through the Baroque pursuit of eloquence, it abandoned the precious and contorted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light is always obscured by another element in the painting, which gives it a more dramatic, more human feel, with greater depth. The emotional effect of this is very intimate and human. The duplicitous nature of shadow and light in a La Tour painting could be seen as a metaphor for the good and bad contained within human nature. It is also vague enough to be open to multiple interpretations. In any interpretation this duality is almost given more importance than the subject matter. The personality of Nicolas Poussin was contrary to La Tour, though both were very rational and humanistic. Poussin sought to enter into the person of his subject, to become immersed in psychological analysis. He combines his love of virtue and his love of landscape by placing tragic figures in richly interesting and complexly constructed, heroic landscapes. He produced some of the most demanding, yet satisfying landscape paintings in western culture. He believed passionately that the disposition of the painting as a whole could be constructed to covey a mood or emotion. He also had a unique combination of pagan and Christian themes, often giving a poetic treatment to subjects from classic mythology and ancient history. Poussin was a classicist for whom the aesthetic values of antiquity represented not only a formal ideal, but also a moral standard, a way conceiving a form that cannot be separated from the good and true. Unfortunately this was not always the case as Blacks, Hispanics, and other minorities were discriminated from the early 60 s to the late 80 s and even still today. Segregation plagued the U.S., placing minorities in lower classes than whites, restricting certain rights and freedoms that our constitution laid by our forefathers has been implemented to protect U.S. citizens. The Fifth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth amendment were implemented to protect American citizens. The declaration says all men are created equal (Jacobus, 412), these amendments are in place to protect our rights and keep us safe. The Fifth Amendment states that no person shall ....Be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.... (Jacobus, 412) However even though we have these laws here to protect us, discrimination plagued our country and did not grant rights to certain groups of minorities because of skin color, race, or religion. Throughout our history there were many instances of this unfairness, for example Jones v. Alfred H. Mayer Company. (Jacobus, 412) This case was a huge breakthrough in the fight against segregation, saying that any form of discrimination is a badge of slavery, (Jacobus, 412) and therefore violates the Thirteenth Amendment. The controversial topic of the matter being mostly dedicated to the appeal of whether Barbie sends a good message to kids, or not. What most people tend to overlook about Barbie is the reason and inspiration of her creation, the feminine cultivation she displays, and the diversity and positivity of her life and personality. When Barbie is brought up the first thing people will think of is her figure. Shipping American Jobs Overseas Essay Shipping American Jobs Overseas Did you know that the nation has lost more than 2.5 million manufacturing jobs and more than 850,000 professional service and information sector jobs, due to overseas shipping since 2001? (Aflcio) It is clear to me that some big business companies don t value the protection of employees very highly. By some big business, ill single one out and state that Goldman Sachs has shipped approximately 500,000 American jobs overseas in the past few years. That s about half of the total net job loss during these past years (Aflcio). This shows that companies are reluctant to stay in American and scared of the current economic situation. Financials have revealed that oversea companies receive government procurement contracts worth billions of dollars along with their tax breaks. Not only are these businesses getting cuts on their finances they get financial aid to help them. This money comes from American taxpayers, and it goes towards a business that does not provide any help towards the country that is assisting it (Aflcio). The jobs that they do offer are located halfway around the world; this does no good for the hard working American. These taxpayer financed benefits usually come with very few strings attached; allowing companies to skim additional profits by performing publicly funded work overseas (Aflcio). I believe that, in this day and age, companies are always trying to take advantage of the government and find loop hole. Laws concerning the distribution of government procurement should be reformed to not encourage the shipping of jobs overseas, but to promote the growth of a business in America with the assistance of government procurements paid for by the taxpayers who live in the country. • 7. The Role of the Visual in Today s Society Essay The Role of the Visual in Today s Society The role of the visual in today s society is quite apparent. Beautiful, flashy images are everywhere in the media, and all of them serve the same purpose. The purpose of all of these images is to get you, the consumer to buy the product that is being sold, or at least buy into the idea that a particular product represents. The role of the visual in modern architecture is very much the same. The purpose of the visual in modern architecture is to publicize or privatize a building through any media necessary to create the desired representation, and thereby sell the idea. In the case of Le Corbusier, the goal was to create a very visual and public architecture. He recognized that not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The few original pictures that Corbusier took of this building are what actually put Villa Savoye on the map as an architectural achievement. The images speak of movement, seen in the ramp. They demonstrate the progression one would take from the ground to the roof, and from there to the vast expanse beyond. They also speak of the temporality of the building, as if it just happened to be there when Corbusier was walking by and decided to take this picture. There is also an inherent lack of privacy common to all of the images. It is as if the whole world can look inside of the building and see what the occupants are doing, which is precisely what Corbusier wanted. Thus he took them and published the images, which were then distributed all around the world. He also mad a movie of the building called L Architecture d aujour hui (1929), which demonstrated his voyeuristic approach to how architecture should be seen. Villa Savoye, for example, is an apparatus (like a cinema) that privileges the eye over the body, movement over stasis, and fragmentation over unity. Every window is a lens, a purely visual opening; circulation is a poetic event of movement, orchestrated by ramps and spiral stairways; the house acts as a dynamic and shifting catalyst to experience, not as a static and finite center of experience. Publishing these images, and the making of the movie ended up making Villa Savoye possibly the most public building of the time, and one of the most popular buildings ... • 8. Structure Of Eleven By Sandra Cisneros Structure of Essay Eleven Sandra Cisneros story Eleven is an influential piece about the struggle of Rachael on her eleventh birthday. Rachael is a young girl who is harassed with understanding how to feel about her birthday, a day which is delightful for most but not for her. She fights through her age and maturity to be understood, but fails. Told from an insightful first person Eleven contains simplistic diction and a good use of similes to characterize Rachael as a neglected and sad girl with an advanced outlook on birthdays Rachael starts by talking about how people carry every year with them. She says some days you might say something stupid and that s the part of you that s still ten, or one day you may need to sit on your mama s lap because you re scared and that s the part of you that s five . What she s trying to say about aging is that people are made up of their years like the rings of an onion or the inside of the dolls you fit within one another . As she goes back to her child form, Rachael describes what seems to be a simple sweater, as hideous and disgusting. She says as she opens her eyes the red sweater is still sitting there like a big red mountain . It is clear Rachael does not want to be associated with such a disgraceful item. I have never taken a photography class, or researched too in depth about specific pictures or photographers. This project has allowed me to delve deeper into the world of photography in order to understand just how much influence pictures can have over society s beliefs, emotions, and understandings . I have have chosen two highly influential photographers, Diane Arbus and Dorothea Lange, who I have found to both resonate with me and perfectly capture human emotions in way that moves others. Diane Arbus was a photographer in the 1950 s and 60 s. Starting out as a fashion photographer, Arbus quickly moved on to photographing more impactful pictures, usually of societal outsiders ( The Cost of Diane, 2016). With striking images of freaks, as she once named her subject, Arbus perfectly depicted feelings of loneliness and struggles with identity. I believe Arbus resonates with me so much because of her uncanny ability to showcase such complex and intense human emotions through photography repeatedly. Each picture tells a different story with different struggles, yet each share emotions so commonly felt. These unalike, yet similar photographs each hold a piece of personal and ... • 10. Persuasive Essay On Crime In the United States 10,000 robberies occur daily, 3,200 of those robbery victims are never given justice. Of those 3,200 victims, most are still looking for justice because they had under 200 dollars worth of goods stolen. In the state of Pennsylvania if a robber takes less that 200 dollars of goods it is only a misdemeanor charge, which has little impact on a permanent record. In my opinion, any robbery should be charged as a felony in the first degree, accompanied by a permanent mark on a record, as well as, a fine and possible jail time. Our community contains a suburban area, with rural areas close, which seems to leave many by robberies without charges and free in our community. In a big city, only 25 percent of robbers go free without charge. Although in a suburban area, which much of which our school district includes, 30 percent of robberies escape without charge. In the more rural areas the percentage is even higher, a recorded 41 percent rate of no charge. With less robbers charged, it increases the chance for them to do it again and at a more dangerous level. It does not matter to a victim as to the reason a robber might be left on the street, the result is people are left in fear of being a victim to a crime. As a victim of a robbery, I understand all to well leaving with fear of a theft. • 12. The Vascular Species Of Flora Essay The naturalised vascular species of flora throughout New Zealand at present has similar totals to the native species (Williams Cameron, 2006), and newly naturalised species are being discovered at an increasing rate (Howell, 2008). Approximately 19% of all naturalised species are presently recorded as environmental weeds (Howell, 2008). Unfortunately, these statistics can, incorrectly, give the impression that New Zealand environments are inundated with an abundance of diverse weeds. Rather, the majority of naturalised plants, together with weeds, still inhabit a mere fraction of the wild land habitats throughout New Zealand (Williams Wiser, 2004). In the centuries to come, it is predicted that weeds and other naturalised floras will increasingly occupancy areas of New Zealand, even for millenniums as has appeared to have occurred with Europe s naturalised plants (Pysek Jarosik, 2005). The general origins of naturalised flora species were as decorative garden and feature plants (Howell, 2008), as such they commonly are present near human settlements (Timmins Williams, 1991). When random wild land sites were surveyed few, if any, environmental weed species are generally found (Sullivan, Williams, Timmins, 2006). This suggests that environmental weeds are generally in the initial stages of infiltration into New Zealand s environments, thus, there is an opportunity to curb further dispersal. Crayfish Resting Membrane Potential Essay The purpose of this experiment was to test the hypothesis that the crayfish resting membrane potential is primarily dependent on the potassium ion concentration gradient. Our approach to testing this hypothesis involves taking intracellular recordings using an IWX/214 interface, iWorx and LabScribe software, and a Model 3100 electrometer complete with a head stage, ground electrode, glass microelectrodes, and micromanipulator. The study organism used for this experiment involved the abdominal extensor muscles of adult Orconectes rusticus. One sample t tests were conducted on the resulting membrane potentials and their corresponding predicted values, taken from the Nernst Equation. Going to Temecula, California would not only be an amazing vacation, but it is an opportunity to try new things and to learn new things as well. Old Town Temecula is going to blow your mind. So in conclusion I would give temecula a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is more of a family city. Temecula will be my future destination. Hopefully your families could enjoy this at some ... • 28. The Divine Comedy vs. Paradise Lost Full Circle – from Sin to Salvation Great works of literature have been written throughout history. However, The Divine Comedy and Paradise Lost have the inept ability to stir the soul and cause a person to examine and re examine their life. The brilliant descriptions, use of imagery, metaphor and simile give a person a vivid picture of the creation of man and the possibilities for life in the hereafter. This is done, as a person is able to see, full circle, from the beginning of time to the end of time, the consequences of turning away from God. The ability to see a life full circle is apparent through the examination of both of these poems. Although written many years ago, the morals and principles that they convey ring very true ... I marveled when I saw that, on his head, he had three faces: one in front—blood red; and then another two that, just above the midpoint of each shoulder, joined the first (found in The Divine Comedy, in Canto 34 (Canto XXXIV) of the Inferno) On Easter morning, Virgil and Dante escape Hell after climbing down the body of Satan and climbing through the opening known as the earth s center of gravity. After a short hike, they arrive at ante purgatory, which was the area designated for those who died without receiving full repentance or without receiving the holy sacrament before their death. After ante purgatory, they enter purgatory, where an angel inscribed the letter P seven times on Dante s forehead. Each letter represented one of the seven deadly sins. Those seven sins include pride, envy, anger, sloth, avarice, gluttony, and lust. Each P will be erased as Dante travels through the areas that were reserved for those who had committed each of the seven sins. As each P is erased by an angel from Dante s forehead, the journey becomes easier and easier for Dante. In Purgatory, even though people inhabit different levels, they are able to eventually move on to heaven if they receive enough prayer to rid them of their sins. The seventh terrace is the highest level of purgatory. When Virgil and Dante finally reach that terrace, they must pass through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Character Analysis Of Dee s Everyday Use As one of the vital characters in Everyday Use, Dee characterizes what every young adult finding themselves can relate to. She is very comfortable in her skin as the story unfolds and is one that many cling to. Although very popular with others she does not exhibit this same quality with her family. Soon after graduating his school she leaves her family to find herself. She soon return different in many ways starting with her new name. Soon we find that despite her many changes in life she still had a place in her that so desperately longs for the things of her past. In general in Everyday Use, as a new found woman Dee is focused on growing into a new person, but still longs to connect with her heritage. Dee can be initially viewed as a complex character throughout the short story as she evolves to separate herself from but soon returns looking to claim the things of the past she so desperately sought to separate from. The character Dee can be defined as self centered. She displays this initially during the burning of the first house. While her sister is trapped in the house by fire and being rescued by her mother Dee stands far away merely looking on. This speaks volumes to her lack of concern for others. Where the average person in the same position may attempt to lend help or offer some sort of assistance she clearly is only concerned about her own safe. This sets a clear tone of the relationship between Dee and the other main characters in the story. Similarly to a younger version of Dee when she returns home she has no regard for others. When Dee returns home she immediately comes in and begins claiming things that belong to other family members without concern for them or their wanting of those items. This is most significantly noted in the mention of the quilt that actually had been promised to Maggie. Despite already having been promised to Maggie, Dee claims the quilt as her own then gives reason, which she somehow feels are valid, as a way of staking claim of the quilt. ` Although Mama stood up for Maggie during the attempted claiming of the quilt when Mama describes Dee we can see that she almost excuses Dee for being the way she is. This notion is made apparent as Mama starts by describing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Bust Of St Lawrence Essay A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art (Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17). Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the artistic techniques of the Classical. During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical Greeks. His ears are partially covered because it is a challenge to sculpt ears in such a way that is anatomically correct. Proportion is achieved in the facial features; the eyes, nose, and lips all appear relative to each other in size. There is proper depth in the face; the eyes are slightly inset, the nose ... The bust has a slight tilt in the shoulders, reminiscent of the contrapposto found within the classical art, which allows for a less two dimensional image, suited for more angles. This back has slightly degraded with age so even more detail could have existed but been lost. Overall, the design meets the visual goals of Renaissance and classical sculptors ... • 31. Examples Of Group Dynamics In 12 Angry Men It s Possible : How Group Dynamics Affect their Outcomes As the courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men celebrates its 60th anniversary, there is no doubt to why it remains a cinematic classic. Its strategic cinematography, accurate perceptions of human character, and topical issues creates an exposure of group dynamics that is still relevant today. As we see Henry Fonda s character, Juror #8, swing the verdict of a trial away from an 11 1 vote against the defendant to a consensus for his freedom, many different elements of organizational behaviour are displayed. How the group forms, acts, and interacts as time progresses are attributed to a multitude of internal and external factors. Despite the simplicity of setting and premise, 12 Angry Men remains a beloved film. It s authenticity of human behaviour, particularly in relation to conformity, team interaction, and leadership, resonates with its audience as it tries to, as Juror #3 would say, talk about facts. Ultimately, 12 Angry Men s cinematographic balance of realism and sentimentalism in its story aptly summate the struggles of the characters as they overcome the obstacles of group conflicts while addressing their own moral qualms. There are two important group development stages that occur in 12 Angry Men. The movie s characters and tone is set during the forming stage, where the characters are first introduced into the team. During this stage, the members ask themselves Can my needs be met at the same time that I contribute to the group? Juror #7 makes his needs clear when he states we can get all get out of here pretty quick...I happen to have tickets to that ball game tonight . By informing the group that he has motivation to leave, he is likewise inferring that his commitment to the group will be low. Similarly in this stage, the members learn more about each other and their personalities. Juror #3 sets himself as a self titled experienced and pragmatic juror, telling others that I ve sat on many juries...I d slap those tough kids down before they start any trouble. The Gettysburg Address The Impact of the Gettysburg Address on the United States The speech we now know as the Gettysburg Address was given to consecrate the fallen soldiers in the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. It is known as one of the most influential speeches ever and has been recognized in hindsight as pivotal in the outcome of the war. Its brevity and poetry emphasized America s original dream, the importance of equality, and the opportunity for a new birth of freedom, a message which continues to be of relevance today. The Gettysburg Address was powerful because each word was thought out and was meaningful to Lincoln. It was on November 19, 1863, when Lincoln delivered the speech after the battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was the most demoralizing battle of the Civil war between the Union and the Confederacy, with over 50,000 casualties in just three days. Lincoln spoke at the ceremonies honoring the brave Union soldiers after Edward Everett, a famous orator who spoke for two hours. In contrast Lincoln captivated his crowd for just over two minutes with a mere 272 words. He was concise and to the point while also poetic. Everett is known to have sent Lincoln a letter after the ceremony that said; I should be glad, if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion, in two hours, as you did in two minutes. Lincoln repeated words that he wanted to emphasize; we, dedicated, and nation. He stressed these words to make his message clearer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As shown, the guard finds it hard to accept the justifications for killing. He sees life as something precious and feels that even if the option to end someone s life is there, using it would be inhumane. On the other hand, in the story of The Tell Tale Heart it is clearly shows that the servant has no regard for life. He states that whenever [the eye] fell upon me, my blood ran cold (Poe 1). This very gradually (Poe 1) led him to the point where he made up [his] mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid [himself] of the eye forever (Poe 1). This alone displays that the servant considers life as something that is simply disposable because he sees one flaw in the old man. He feels that the only way to be able to be satisfied is to get rid of what is bothering him. When it comes to both of these characters, their views on apply death are completely different. The guard sees that there is something wrong with ending the life ofsomeone who is completely healthy, while the servant feels that life is something that could be cut short and ended without a second though. Finally, both protagonists differ in the way they react to the deaths. For the prison guard as soon as the killing took place an enormous relief had come upon [them] now that the job was done (Orwell 34 35). • 41. The Synthesis Of 13 Butadienes CHAPTER TWO RESULTS AND DISCUSSION 2.1 Synthesis of 1,3 butadienes Dienes can be synthesised from aldehydes and ketones using the Wittig reaction. The Wittig reaction facilitates the synthesis of new carbon carbon double bonds at specific locations in aldehydes and ketones (Bernard Ford, 1983). The overall reaction mechanism is shown in Figure 1. Protocols for synthesising 1,3 butadienes from aldehydes and ketones have been established in the literature. The synthesis protocol proposed by Greatrex et al. (2014) was used and reactions using several aldehydes (cinnamaldehyde, piperonaldehyde, and 2 chloro benzaldehyde) were successfully performed to synthesise the required butadienes 1, 2, and 3, Scheme 2. The general approach involved transforming the aldehydes at the site of the carbonyl group. Use of an appropriate triphenylphosphonium halide (methyl for cinnamaldehyde, and allyl for piperonal and 2 chloro benzaldehyde) afforded the correct 1,3 butadiene. Deprotonation of the triphenylphosphonium halide was achieved using potassium tert butoxide reacted under an atmosphere of nitrogen. An observable colour change was observed on addition of the triphenylphosphonium halide to the solvent, and subsequently on the addition of an aldehyde. Reactions were followed by thin liquid chromatography (TLC), and the butadienes were purified via chromatography (1 and 2 via column chromatography, and 3 via dry flash chromatography). Image B also used her lines to show depth, for example on the house she made it 3D to let us viewers see the depth of her house. Image A does not use line to show depth. Instead, she drew her lines to show the viewers the front of the house and only the front. Although image A is more of a free drawing picture, I think it has more details in the picture. Image A has windows on the house and she show her flag pole next to the house, yet image B has no windows on the house and nothing in the yard. Another difference in the drawings is the backgrounds. Since we are testing using α = 0.1, α exceeds the p value, thus we can reject H0 and conclude that the rate of change of the sale price of the condos with distance from the elevator(x2) decreases when the view(x3) decreases ; that is x2 and x3 interact positively.
