Should the 22nd Amendment Be Repealed
In the political world today there are so many different opinions about several different topics. The
topics that I will address to you will be, should the 22nd Amendment be repealed and also should the
foreign born be allowed to run for president. In both topics you may have your pros and cons, but I am
strongly against the both of them because I feel that the Constitution should not be taken advantage of.
Government should not be allowed to manipulate the Constitution to suit his or her needs. While
making adjustments to the Constitution to allow different things to take place for convenience doesn t
leave any form respect of the Constitution. There should be a line drawn to keep this from happening
for years to come on these issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Republicans are pushing for Schwarzenegger to be the one who put this statement to an end reach
reads: Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution. It reads, No person except a natural born
citizen ... shall be eligible to the office of president (CNN News, 2004). Schwarzenegger s supporters
are pushing for a constitutional amendment that would allow the Austrian born governor to run for
president while others are against this change, (USA Today, 2005). These issues and other issues are
just a test to see if the American people will allow such changes to take place without having input on
it. In addition, it could become a test of American attitudes toward immigrants in the post 9/11 era,
and also put some more thought into the topic of interest. I am totally against it because I am
employed by the Immigration service and changes to the Constitution would allow room for disasters
to our country. Although, there are some immigrants that are here to make a difference, there are still
others who will not remain loyal to our country and follow our guidelines of making our country a

Running head: Situational Influences on Purchasing Behavior
Situational Influences on Purchasing Behavior
Abstract
There was an investigation in an attempt to understand what situational influences affect purchasing
behaviors of consumers. Fifty subjects were asked to complete a survey in determining what attributes
affect the decision to purchase a product. The effect of purchase was based on three different times of
day: morning, afternoon, and evening. The effect of purchase was also based on whether subjects
preferred caffeinated or non caffeinated soda depending on the time of day. The subjects were asked to
rate their preferences on a 5 point rating scale, one being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will also determine taste preference for that particular soda during a particular time of day.
To summarize the main objectives of the present study, we will investigate an answer to the question
of what impact situational influences on decision making have towards the purchase of a product. We
will assess three different time periods; morning, afternoon, and evening based on the decision to
drink a caffeinated or a non caffeinated soda. In order to achieve results, we decided to develop a
survey in which subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire based on their preference for the type
of soda one drinks during a particular time of day to see if there are variations in taste attributes
depending on the time of day the purchasing is taking place. We expect individuals to purchase more
caffeinated products during the morning and the afternoon. , Whereas we expect them to purchase
more non caffeinated products.
Method
Participants
Forty nine subjects volunteered to participate in a survey designed to measure people s preferences for
caffeine, diet, cola, non cola flavored, or clear cola in three different usage situations; the morning, the
afternoon, and at night. The subjects were asked to participate by the three members of the research
group. The subjects were not discriminated based on

Essay on The Place of Scripture in Christian Faith
As part of revivals in Christian faith during 18th century onward three practices evolved into their
own interpretation on the place and authority of Scripture in the Christian faith. The first of these were
the Liberals who viewed themselves as the saviors of a defunct out of date Christianity (Bingham
149). Their founder, Friedrich Schleiermacher an 18th century pastor, did not view traditional,
authoritative doctrines, creeds and biblical texts as the preeminent sources in theology (150). Instead
the Liberal perspective of Christianity put more emphasis on the doctrines of sin and grace and less
attention on the holiness of the trinity (Kerr 213). Jesus was viewed as a historical figure that we can
learn from spiritually and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Neo Orthodoxical view on faith is that it is a step into the unknown, made on the basis of that
which is already known. Faith is neither totally rational nor totally irrational (Lane 270). Following
this is then the concept that knowing all of Christian history or knowledge of the Bible does not equal
faith (270). Those of the Neo Orthodox faith believe that the Bible is the word of God only in the
sense that it witnesses to the past event of God speaking and that God again speaks through it today
(275). Because God speaks throughout the Bible and is the living word it should be viewed as a whole
that spreads the message of Jesus Christ (Kantzer 19). The Neo Orthodox movement sought to enforce
the Bible as the eternal word of God and his only as the guidance for our walk in faith and a manual of
sorts to seek Him and reach heaven.
As each different theological movement evolved and became a form of Christian practice there
followed the good and the bad aspects of each. The Liberalist did well to become a part of society and
distance themselves from the strict and traditional practices of Christianity. Although with this new
adaption of the faith they lost part of the meaning of being a Christian. Liberalist placed more
emphasis on faith and with this they taught the love of God but denied his holy wrath against sin thus
ending with a sentimental concept of love (Lane 271). Because the element of feeling and only the

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Case Study
Operative Management of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
Introduction
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) affects a significant proportion of people in the population and can
cause discomfort, limit activities of daily living, and can lead to significant disability. Even though
numerous technological advancements have been made in the treatment of LSS, its management
continues to be a challenge for both patients and healthcare professionals. Spinal Stenosis is a
condition characterized by either narrowing of the spinal canal, also known as the Central Stenosis, or
narrowing of the vertebral foramina (Delitto et al., 466). The combination effect of the loss of disc
space, osteophytes, and hypertrophic lingamentum culminate to LSS (Genevay and Atlas 253). LSS is
referred to as degenerative arthritis and the foraminal narrowing leads to a condition referred to as
neurogenic claudication. Because of this narrowing, the spinal cord, and the spinal nerves are
compressed thereby causing painful symptoms in the organs served by the affected nerves (Fishman
1141). Patients with this condition present with symptoms ranging from low back pain, general
weakness decreased sensation to numbness of the limbs (Delitto et al., 467). Walking becomes a

(Mueller, Paul. 7). Non Steroidal Anti inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) demonstrate effectiveness when
used in reducing swelling and pain associated with LSS (Fishman 1142). Opioids, on the other hand,
are used to relieve pains associated with LSS and are usually only reserved for cases that do not
respond to non opioid analgesics. Other drugs including gabapentin have been used to combat
neuropathic pain. Pregabalin is commonly used in the management of burning pain emanating from
nerve root irritation (Frontera, Silver, and Rizzo

Edgar Allan Poe s Impact on American Literature
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most influential writers of the horror genre in American history. His
horror stories have impacted numerous authors and their stories over the years. Various people have
tried to copy his way of writing style, but they have failed to achieve the success he did. Even though
Poe is no longer living, his impact on American literature can still be felt today. Edgar Allan Poe was
born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. Even though Edgar Allan Poe did not grow up
around his biological parents, his parents were both actors. His father left the family early on, and his
mother passed away when he was only three. ( Biography ) Since Poe did not have any parents

King has this to say about Poe s works, He wasn t just a mystery/suspense writer, adds the author
many fans would describe as the modern Poe, Stephen King. He was the first (Hockensmith). Poe s
detective fiction or mystery fiction can best be felt in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock
Holmes is one of the best knows detectives in the history of literature. His fame can be spotted in the
books that have been written and the movies that have been produced about Holmes. Poe s works
were able to influence the author of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in which he
based the character of Sherlock Holmes off of one of Poe s characters whose name was Dupin who
was used in the mystery story The Murders in the Rue Morgue. The similarities between the two
characters are quite grand. Both are solitary men who prefer to live quietly in either isolation or in the
company of one close companion. ( Nineteenth Century Influenced Poe ). Both men also tend to shift
to the bottom of their mysteries without a large amount of clues that other detective writers appear to
have in their stories. The impact that Poe has had on authors and stories cannot be matched. His
stories have provided a model for future authors to use, in the hope of growing the notoriety of
mystery fiction or the horror genre. Poe s writing was able to captivate people, as stated above, but
Poe was also able to reach a plethora of authors that lived in the South. The life of

Nomads In South American History
All along, history has been written through the eyes of Westerners. Indigenous inhabitants who did not
use the conventional way of recording events, that is, writing, has been overlooked from time and
time. Nomads for instance, orally passed information from one generation to another, but without
actual tangible evidence where information can be verified. It also does not help their case that we
tend to focus on history that are agricultural but most importantly, has resonance with the modern
world, which Nomads, both are not (Dickinson, January 2017). Other Natives like the Inca in South
America had no writing methods but meticulously kept record through tying knots on strings (Daniels/

Also, some expert s claim that African Empires were contained within lands and their ship based
exports were only to Europe, especially after colonization. However, contrary to popular belief,
Westerners were not the leaders of navigational progress and European ships of the 15th century, were
not superior than those centuries earlier. Navigational knowledge of Spaniards of this time was
elementary and seamen were considerably ignorant on navigation according to Columbus (Van
Sertima, p.57). Normally, I would not generalize and that there may be some exceptions, but
Columbus is said to have spearheaded trans Atlantic navigation, thus, him saying that Europeans were
poor in navigation ought to have considerable weight. Europeans came into possession of such skills
during the Renaissance (Daniels/ Hyslop, p.) of the 14th century. Such maritime technologies
necessary to cross the Atlantic has been available to other non Western civilizations suchlike the
system of longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates that has been available in China since 100 B.C.,
lateen sail hoisted by Spain and Portugal which came from the Arabs, and the astrolabe, which
originated in ancient Greeks, but was diffused and developed for years also came from the Arabs (Van
Sertima, pg.57). Zheng He, a successful and famous Chinese commander is said to have navigated
decades before Columbus, judging from the year Ma Huan s compilation finished in 1451 (Mills,
p.137 141). Furthermore, Africans themselves navigated the Atlantic prior to Christ (Van Sertima,
p.57). This is proven by Thor Heyerdahl of Norway who tested the validity of previous statement by
building the exact replica of Egyptian ships, incorporating the same

In the video The Confessions presented by Frontline, a murder of a women that was committed by one
man, quickly resulted into a false gang murder rape scene committed by eight men. The victim,
Michelle Bosko, was seen to be raped and killed in her apartment in Norfolk, Virginia. From the
video, it has been proven that seven out of the eight men that confessed were innocent, but somehow
they all received an unequal punishment. Because the innocent men admitted to a murder that they
didn t commit out of fear, they were all sentenced to some time in prison. The head detective, Glenn
Ford, intimidated the men so much that they either were convinced that they were at the crime scene
or they told him every detail that he wanted to hear. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that Ford had to men so afraid disturbs me because I never knew that someone could make up
an entire lie of something that never happened. But because they are afraid, they are able to picture
themselves in a crime scene that they were nowhere near. Though the results of the lie detector tests
that were taken by all of the men were never explained or read to them, the police made the men think
that they failed the polygraph test even though they passed it. In a recent interview that Ballard gave
from prison, he tells Frontline that he committed the murder all by himself and that he understands
why the men committed to a murder that they didn t commit. He understood that he men confessed out
of fear and said anything just so that Ford would get out of their faces. Even after the murder and the
men were seem as not guilty, they still had to face circumstances in their outside worlds. The men
were now considered as sex offenders and it was hard for them to get a good job because of their
background. Every year, the men have to register as a sex offender due to the fact that they gave false
confessions out of intimidation. At the end however, Glenn Ford was indicted for receiving money
from defendants in exchange for a better treatment in prison. Although the men didn t get the justice
they needed right away, their lawyers were not finished with the case and they were soon to get them
the justice that they deserved. In conclusion, this video

Muslim American Stereotypes
Stereotypes of Muslims in America
In the recent years there has been an increase in the number of terrorist attacks and groups such as 9
11, Paris, and Isis . As these attacks get more and more frequent and so does the amount of media that
covers them. When the media reports about these events they can spread untrue, misleading or
misunderstood information. This kind of spread can get cause stereotypes among the American
people.
Even before 9/11, the effects of stereotyping against Muslims has been present. For example in a
Harvard University article about Muslim Americans struggling with stereotypes it states, in the
immediate wake of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, early news accounts included reports of people
of Middle Eastern heritage fleeing the scene; many journalists, experts, and even former
Representative Dave McCurdy linked the bombing to fundamentalist Islamic terrorist groups. In
media such as newspapers they have printed in a way that could be misleading to the reader,
newspaper headlines regularly print the words Islam and Muslim next to words like fanatic, ... Show

ABSTRACT
Herbal drug therapy is regarded as an important alternative for the treatment of chronic and infectious
disease. Ocimum gratissimum has been used extensively in traditional medicine in many
countries. The aim of this study was to evaluate antioxidant status and antimicrobial activity of the
methanol extract of Ocimum gratissimum (MEOG) and to establish that the antimicrobial activity is
due to its antioxidant potentials. The total antioxidant status was evaluated using DPPH and ABTS
assays and the Folin Ciocalteu reagent method to determine total phenolic content of the MEOG.The
antimicrobial effect was determined by agar diffusion and broth dilution method against different
ATCC strains of pathogenic bacteria. Zones of inhibition, minimum inhibitory (MIC) and minimum
bactericidal concentrations (MBC) were determined. The results indicate that the antioxidant potential
and antimicrobial activity of MEOG is mainly due to its total phenolic content

The Science Of Social Psychology
If you put good apples into a bad situation, you ll get bad apples , said Philip G. Zimbardo, a
prominent researcher of the field of social psychology. What is social psychology, you might ask? In
short, it represents and defines an individual s actions when the said individual is placed in a social
situation. It also defines how you choose to act, often subconsciously, in the face of others. The
science of social psychology is a youthful one, it s existence barely a century old. However, it is with
it s existence that we are able to decipher topics such as conformity, independence, and identity on a
logical basis. We use it, to a degree, to study how every group has an impact on a singular entity, as
well as how those impacts end up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His theories were tested in his famous line test experiments, where a participant, placed last in a row
of other participants (actors) were to choose the correct corresponding line for a set of lines. However,
all the actors were instructed to answer incorrectly, leading the participants to conform, on average,
about one third (32%) (Asch 1 70) of the time in the complete trials. In addition, the varying cases
monitored had shown that 75% of the participants had conformed at least once (McLeod) during the
duration of their tests. The majority of the subjects felt that their judgement was clouded, or, more
surprisingly, knew that the group was incorrect yet went with the flow to avoid conflict. The real
world impacts of this trial are massive: By placing individuals in groups, there bears the risk of
conformity overtaking the free will of the group through the want of the individual to fit in, known as
normative influence, or the clouding of their judgement through believing that the group has the better
answer, known as informational influence. This can have massive repercussions in group centric fields
such as politics, or affect the opinions of the members of a group during discussions. In addition, the
urge to fit in , often experienced by many teenagers, is attributed to the same effect. Conformity is a
powerful force, capable of weakening the strongest

Essay on Nellie Bly the Journalist
Introduction To read of Nellie Bly, one would come to think the woman a pioneer in journalism; a
hero for women s rights; and an American icon. These beliefs would be true if not for the fact that Bly
was so much more. She was much more a woman, much more a writer, much more a hero and much
more than most could ever be. Bly not only took on a world of injustice and stereotypes, but
conquered it and changed the way the field of journalism works today. Elizabeth Cochran, a.k.a.
Nellie Bly was the first known female reporter. Bly s life spanned Reconstruction, the Victorian and
Progressive Eras, the Great War, and its aftermath (Kroeger, 1996). And, even though there remains no

In his column, Quiet Observations, Erasmus Wilson portrayed the notion that women of the day were
useless outside the sphere of marriage (Wildemuth, 1999). This infuriated Cochran, and she quickly
sent a heated letter to the editor of The Dispatch, signed Lonely Orphan Girl (Toth, 1994). The
newspaper s editor was so taken with her letter that he asked her to reveal herself, and within a week,
offered her a writing position with the publication (Toth 1999). It was then, at the young age of 20,
that Cochran adopted the pen name Nellie Bly. A Star is Born: A World is Changed Bly was not
content to just write columns for the Dispatch and confronted her editors about engaging in a new kind
of journalism. This new type of undercover journalism, nicknamed stunt at the time, was risky enough
for a reporter, let alone a female one. Bly s first stunt assignment was to disguise herself as a destitute
woman and get a job at a local copper cable factory (Wildemuth 1999). Bly s illustrative descriptions
of the factory s hazardous conditions not only forced the public to take interest in the workers issues
but also increased the paper s circulation. In 1887, Bly moved to New York to continue her journalistic
ambitions. At first, no one wanted to hire the outspoken reporter, but Joseph Pulitzer, editor of The

President Obama Hated On Friday Essay
President Obama hated on Friday what he called a Republican (series of actions to reach a goal) to
deny voting rights to millions of Americans as he stepped up efforts to motivate and excite his
political base heading into a competitive midterm campaign season.
Appearing at the once a year convention of the Rev. Al Sharpton s National Action Network in

The right to vote is threatened today in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act became

supporters, most of them African American. Across the country, Republicans have led efforts to pass
laws making it harder, not easier, for people to vote.
Speaking a day after a (meeting to discuss things/meeting together) in Texas remembering (with

themselves and for others only to see it denied to their kids and their (children of children), he said.

The Theory Of Feminist Care Ethics
A moral theory determines what is right or wrong based off a structured set of statements. There are
many different moral theories each obtaining their own set of guidelines for determining whether an
action is morally right or wrong. In this paper I consider one objection against feminist care ethics.
First I will outline the theory, and then discuss in detail the aspects of the theory that the objection
targets. Next I will explain what the objection states. Lastly I will describe why it is a serious problem
with the theory.
Feminist Care Ethics is a moral theory that is mainly focuses on emotions and caring for those we are
responsible for. There are many features within this theory. First, the main focus of feminist care
ethics is attending to whom we are responsible for. The theory acknowledges that throughout a
lifetime there are times where people will need to be cared for whether it is in their early years or later.
Those who are responsible for a person in need of care have an obligation to care for them. For

The Supreme Leader And The Authority Of The State
It s the only country in the world with a theocratic government.
The supreme leader is similar to the GB queen but with the difference that the supreme leader sets

His painting Souvenir 1 creates a sort of memorial with historical figures such as JFK and MLK on
the walls of an old but fancy house. The house appears as a historically white person type home that
slaves and black people would typically serve in. The room painted in the picture as a light energy to it
with the use of white and light colors contrasted by the black subject with gold glitter wings. The gold
glitter wings symbolize the freedom blacks earned because of the death of the historical figures
represented in the figures subtly. Because of the historical figures in the painting, laws were passed
and people were inspired. However, historically, just because laws were passed and people were
inspired, didn t mean automatic change, it didn t mean complete freedom. That s what this painting
represents, freedom at a grasp. The black people received their wings( the laws, the courage, the
platform) to fly due to the deaths of many represented and unrepresented figures, but did they fly, can
they fly? Another piece that stood out with its Adam and Eve type mimicry is the painting Vignette.
This picture depicts two relatively young fit black figures, a boy and a girl running through an outside
area with trees, naked with butterflies and birds surrounding them, natural hair flying through the wind

My second bad health habit is lack of drinking water. Doctor Howard Flaks mentioned that for a
healthy person the minimum of water they should consumed is eight to ten cups of water. It is sad to

An Educated Person Analysis
This paper explores the characteristics of an educated person, by focusing on two basic traits
knowledge and readiness. After reading the articles, An Educated Person by Eamon Burdick, What
Does it Mean to Be an Educated Person Today by Marc Tucker, and excerpts from the book
Philosophical, Ideological, and Theoretical Perspectives on Education by Gerald Gutek the
characteristics of an educated person were compared, contrasted, and condensed to focus on the two
most influential. This essay briefly discusses what education is, who should educate, and what traits
an educated person should possess. The characteristics of an educated person that will be covered in
this essay will be knowledge and readiness.

process of teaching. What are we using to educate students? Most schools use some guidelines such as
frameworks, curriculums, hopefully to help students gain a well balanced exposure to many subjects
and areas, to help students become educated people. This leads into the question when thinking about
education is who is qualified to facilitate the teaching? It would make sense that an educated person
should be the one to impart knowledge to others, because they are educated. However, what makes an

Attorney Client Privilege Case Study
In the United States, the doctrine of attorney client privilege developed as a result of two major
influences: A treatise published by Professor John Wigmore, and the United States Supreme Court.1
Professor Wigmore published his elements of the attorney client privilege and they are as follows: (1)
Where legal advice of any kind is sought (2) from a professional legal advisor in his capacity as such,
(3) the communications relating to that purpose, (4) made in confidence, (5) by the client, (6) are at his
instance permanently protected (7) from disclosure by himself or by the legal advisor, (8) except the
protection be waived. 2
The United States Supreme Court has also dramatically influenced the doctrine of attorney client
privilege.3 The court s case law dealing with attorney client privilege has largely reflected and
expanded upon Professor Wigmore s concepts.4 And from early on in the Supreme Court s history, the
Court recognized the importance of the attorney client privilege5. For example, in 1876 the Court
described the policy behind the attorney client privilege as one that allows a person to consult his legal
advisor without being liable to have the interview made public. 6 This policy promote free ... Show

Moreover, privilege is essential to maintain effective legal advice through the lawyers promise of
privacy and honest client disclosure.9 And by giving there attorneys all applicable information, clients
enable their lawyers to give them the widest array of legal advice as possible.10 In addition, given the
law s intricacies, privileging attorney client communications enables a client to put forth his or her
best case.11 The attorney client privilege is especially important in a criminal case, where the
government can use all of its powers against an individual, and the stakes are higher than in a civil
context.12 The defendant or criminal should not be denied the opportunity to enable his lawyer to

What Was The Role Of Women In Brazilian Society
Many people expected order and progress to go relatively smooth, as long as the country was
progressing in a manner they wanted it to. When women started to gain authority, whether it be in the
public sphere or the private of their home, it sparked controversy. Many men did not agree with the
way women were portraying themselves in society. For example, Hollywood portrayed the modern
woman and many men did not like it. In a short time span we see the role of women rapidly change in
Brazilian society. Early on in Brazilian culture, the Brazilian Civil laws essentially made women

All of the rapid changes gave them a sense of belonging and entitlement to equality in society. Health

Tobacco industries are categorized as oligopolies. Oligopoly, according to McConnell Brue Flyyn s

writing and his background story. In Junot Diaz s story, The Money: Starting Out, he shares a story
from his childhood. The story is about when Diaz and his family had just recently moved to New
Jersey from Santo Domingo and they felt as if they were targeted. The neighborhood that they were
living in was not the top of the line, lots of robberies were taking place. The Diazs themselves are a
victim of robbery, but in the end, everything turns out to be good. Throughout Diaz s story the reader

the passage.

Diaz informed us by providing some background of this childhood. He also explains to us that robbery
happens all the time, In our neighborhood, cars and apartments were always getting jacked, and the
kid stupid enough to leave a bike unattended for more than a tenth of a second was the kid who was
never going to see that bike again (Diaz 385). Thankfully many families do not have to think about
their personal items being stolen, but that does not mean that other families are always completely
safe.
It seemed as if the Diaz s were never safe. The stories focus is about a time that one of his best friends
stole his money, even though he thought he never would. His friend knew how bad his family was
struggling and he still stole from him. In the end Diaz regained his money and belongings, but this just
showed how much of a real friend he was. This family was already struggling and now they are hit
with a burden of theft. This just goes to show that anything can happen, but the outcome depends on
how people handle it.
The purpose of this story is to show that your childhood does not define your whole life. Diaz
obviously had a rough childhood at times. Especially moving into the United States from the
Dominican. His family did not have many funds, to give him all the things he needed. This did not
stop him from succeeding on his own though. Diaz went on to graduate high school, something that

of large size of clinker which require excess hydraulic pressure , guide roller is unable to scatter the
hydraulic pressure equally in all the direction on ash bowl to crush the clinker ,more hydraulic
pressure is required for the movement of ash bowl , more time is require to replaced of guide roller for
its maintenance .In order to eliminate above mention problems ,guide roller has been replaced by

Tyranny In Ancient Greece
Monarchies, aristocracies, tyrannies, oligarchies, and democracies existed throughout the human
history. What about ancient Greece? Were tyrannies or democracies more prevalent? When and where
exactly? Let s take a look.
Tyranny is the rule by one powerful dictator, called tyrant. Tyrant is defined as a ruler who has seized
power without legal right. Where tyrants appeared? In fact, many states, in the 6th century BC
particularly, were ruled by a tyrant, including Pisistratus in Athens.
A tyrant takes power by force. He is usually from a noble family but often had the support of poor
people. In a Tyranny power is not inherited, unlike a monarchy. Unlike the meaning of tyranny in
modern day, it was not always an oppressive and brutal rule. For example, Pisistratus rule in Athens.
According to the British Museum tyrannies first appeared in Argos or Corinth, then Sicyon, Megara,
Mytilene and Miletus. Sparta avoided tyranny, probably to strengthen the unity of citizens against
helots. Pisistratus became tyrant in Athens 3 times, starting around 560 BC. Under the Kypselidai
tyranny, the city of Corinth became known for pottery production and export, art and trade.

Questions On Mixed Metal Oxides
2.11.3 Mixed metal oxides
Despite the advantages of individual metal oxides, their CLC performance decreased with the increase
of cycles due to the harsh CLC conditions. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its
supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the
limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or
even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle
CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.).
The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn
mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of
low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature.
Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that
exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher
temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction
of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50].
CoO NiO oxides were prepared as mixed oxide based oxygen carrier, however, the reaction rate was
lower than that of its individual oxides due to the formation of a solid solution of NiCoO2. However,
carbon deposition was

Hence, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spirituality is defined as at the core of their being and
identity Grant (cited in Muller, 2014). It originates from the deep sense of belonging to one s country,
and it gives meaning to all aspects of life, including relationship with one another (Poroch et al.,
2009). Country refers to everything, including land, air, water, stories of dreaming , being dynamic
and multilayer, forming rules, norms and beliefs of existence between species and humans and
ancestral beliefs (Kingsley Townsend, Hender Wilson Bolam, p.683). Past policies and colonisation
have displacement many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People from the connection to their

How Myringotomy Is A Surgical Procedure
Myringotomy is a surgical procedure in which a small incision is made in the eardrum (the tympanic
membrane), usually in both ears. The English word is derived from myringa, modern Latin for drum
membrane, and tome, Greek for cutting. It is also called myringocentesis, tympanotomy,
tympanostomy of the tympanic membrane. Fluid in the middle ear can be drawn out through the
incision. Ear tubes, or tympanostomy tubes, are small tubes open at both ends that are inserted into the
incisions in the eardrums during myringotomy. They come in various shapes and sizes and are made
of plastic, metal, or both. Eustachian tube is a 35mm long auditory tube, functions to connect the
middle ear to the upper pharynx. They are left in place until they fall out by themselves or until they
are removed by a doctor. Fluid collection that lasts longer than three months and does not respond to
drug treatment. This condition is also called glue ear. Myringotomy is the recommended treatment if
the condition lasts four to six months. Effusion refers to the collection of fluid that escapes from blood
vessels or the lymphatic system. In this case, the effusion collects in the middle ear. Acute
inflammation of the middle ear with effusion is treated with one or two courses of antibiotics .
Antihistamines and decongestants have been used, but they have not been proven effective unless
there is also hay fever or some other allergic inflammation that contributes to the problem.

Edmund Burke The Great Debate
Politics now a days is hard to understand and when we do understand and want to create change it s
hard to get our government to create change. In The Great Debate: Edmund Burke, Thomas Paine, and
the Birth of Right and Left, Levin tells the story of an unfriendly rivalry between the progenitors
modern conservatism and modern liberalism. In the time Burke and Paine shared the late 18th century
philosophical arguments could ignite revolutions, and pamphlets could be as important as battles. Both
Burke and Paine were masters of political rhetoric at a time when political rhetoric really mattered,
and their rivalry still reverberates. In today s society about conflicts between the police and minority
communities in the US, Burk would take a position that the american government has to change some

Burke mentions that the old and tried model will not always work, of course, but when it fails,

Persuasive Essay On Breaking Rules
Kim Harrison say that Breaking rules isn t bad when what you re doing is more important than the rule
itself. In discussion of rebellion, one controversial issue has been showing that everyone s
bewilderment. On the one hand, people argued that it is unsuitable to infringe the rules. On the other
hand, people demonstrate that it is justified to contravene the rules. However, I believe that it is right
to break the rules when it support a cause you believe in, unfairly and understandable. One key reason
why we should break the rules when it supports a cause that you believe in, a cause that is right
because you believe, in your opinion, defying authority may help other people. One clear example of
this is from the text, Hunger games. Katniss breaks several rules to help her people and her family. To
understand why Katniss breaks the rules is because her people live in a oppressed life in a society by
all the specific rules like weapon not allow, hunting not allow, and you can not go in the wood to pay
or sell food. Katniss have to ignore the rules go in the wood, hunt and trade food so her family can
have food to survive. Another strong example is from The Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa
Parks break the rules on the bus, don t give up her seat on the bus because white people in texas being
racist which mean black people have to give up their seat for white people. Rosa park shirk the law
and justify for her people. To better understand in that situation is because when other people life in
danger you believe that you should stand up and speak for them as a hero. There are many people life
get in danger or dead because no one believed themself or wanted to stand up and speak for other
people. This historical document illustrates that we should help other people when we think our
believe is not wrong. Another important reason when is it right to break the rules is when it unfairly.
One significant example is that from the text article title Marriage is a Private Affair. Nnaemeka rebel
against the rules which mean he don t listen to his dad and married someone else in the cosmopolitan
atmosphere of the city not in the Ibo tribe where his dad live. In many countries, all over the world,

Critically Examine Sociological Views of Sects in Society...
A sect is a subgroup of a religious, political or philosophical belief system, usually an offshoot of a
larger religious group. Although in past it was mostly used to refer to religious groups, it has since
expanded and in modern culture can refer to any organization that breaks away from a larger one to
follow a different set of rules and principles. Sects are smaller, less highly organised grouping of
committed believers who usually set themselves up in protest at what a church has become. Sects
usually have members who are usually numbered around the couple of hundred mark, showing the
main difference between them and the church.
According to Troeltsch (1931), sects are essentially the polar opposite of churches. They are much

Stark and Bainbridge (1985) are critical of typologies, arguing that there are always overlaps between
categories. Instead, they ran organisations on their tension contributed into society, as they don t see
all organised groups to be a threat. They say that Sects are small religious groups, which are an
offshoot of an existing religion and are in a high degree of tension with the outside world. However, a
problem with Stark and Bainbridge s definitions is that they argue that typologies do not adequately
categorise religions because the boundaries are not clear cut, but then produce their own typology,
which could be criticised for the same thing. For example, it is unclear how much involvement
members have to have for an organisation to be regarded as a sect.
Weber (1922), like Troeltsch, argues that sects tended to be amongst marginal groups in society, that
is, people outside the mainstream of social life who felt they weren t gaining economic rewards from
society they deserved. These sects developed a theodicy of disprivilege, which is a religious
explanation and justification for their disadvantages, which often promised them salvation in the
afterlife. Wilson (1970) also agrees with this explanation as he says that those in situations like defeat
in war, natural disasters and economic collapses would lead to these people becoming marginalised
and turning to new religions. However this isn t always the case as most members from sects

Analyzing Buddha s The Four Noble Truths
The most interesting part of this week s reading is The Four Noble Truths. In Buddha s first sermon he
discussed these truths to his disciples. The Four Noble Truths are: Life is suffering, suffering is caused
by craving, suffering can have an end, and there is a path which leads to the end of suffering. Life is
suffering is the realization that the world is in fact suffering. Suffering and pain are referred to as
Duhka , there are three types of Duhka s. Duhka Duhka is suffering due to biological causes which can
refer to physical illness or broken bones. The second is Viparinama Duhka which refers to suffering
due to change or impermanence, which is pain due to the fact that nothing lasts forever i.e. a person s
life. The final is Samskara

Instagram Reflection Paper
I also saw a lot of flags, which inspired me to draw the flag of Ghana and digitally display it, so I went
back to the drawing board. After I went out to the main exhibit, I stood at the wall waiting for my leaf.
I decided to look around the rest of the 270 degree wall for my leaf. After five minutes of waiting,
another visitor stood beside me searching for her leaf as well. After 10 minutes passed, I decided to
accept that my leaf was not coming anytime soon and it was the last part of the exhibit that I had to
experience anyway. I could tell there were still bugs in the system, so I thanked the guides and headed
back to the L Enfant metro station to go home. I initially planned on going twice that week, but I think
I saw everything I need to see the first time.
On my way back home I thought, maybe this is just a playground for Instagram and snapchat posts.
When I first arrived, my tour guide highly advised that I take photos and and post them with
Artechouse tagged. On Instagram, Artechouse has close to 6,000 photos tagged Artechouse. This is
not including Twitter posts or variations of tags Artechouse hashtags on Instagram. Maybe they aren t
as prioritized on the content as they are attracting people to experience something new. This is
interesting because I first heard about the art installation through Snapchat and Instagram posts rather
than traditional media or word of mouth. Even though the founders understand the excitement on
social media for Artechouse, they

Essay on Jazz
Early Jazz
The earliest easily available jazz recordings are from the 1920 s and early 1930 s. Trumpet player and
vocalist Louis Armstrong ( quot;Pops quot;, quot;Satchmo quot;) was by far the most important figure
of this period. He played with groups called the Hot Five and the Hot Seven; any recordings you can
find of these groups are recommended. The style of these groups, and many others of the period, is
often referred to as New Orleans jazz or Dixieland. It is characterized by collective improvisation, in
which all performers simultaneously play improvised melodic lines within the harmonic structure of
the tune. Louis, as a singer, is credited with the invention of scat, in which the vocalist makes up
nonsense syllables to sing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were also some important small group swing recordings during the 1930 s and 1940 s. These
differed from earlier small groups in that these featured very little collective improvisation. This music
emphasized the individual soloist. Goodman, Ellington, and Basie recorded often in these small group
settings. Major saxophonists of the era include Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Lester Young,
Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. Trumpet players include Roy Eldridge, Harry quot;Sweets quot;
Edison, Cootie Williams, and Charlie Shavers. Pianists include Ellington, Basie, Teddy Wilson, Erroll
Garner, and Oscar Peterson; guitarists include Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessell, and
Django Reinhardt; vibraphonists include Lionel Hampton; bassists include Jimmy Blanton, Walter
Page, and Slam Stewart; drummers include Jo Jones and Sam Woodyard. Billie Holiday, Dinah
Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald were important singers in this era. Most of these musicians recorded
in small groups as well as with big bands. The styles of these musicians can best be summarized by
saying they concentrated primarily on playing melodically, on the swing feel, and on the development
of an individual sound. The blues was, as in many other styles, an important element of this music.
Bebop
The birth of bebop in the 1940 s is often considered to mark the beginning of modern jazz. This style
grew directly out of the small swing

Designing A Contractor Management System For A Site Expansion
Design Deficiencies
The following report answers questions on design deficiencies. It will describe three design disasters
and examine the causes of the disaster and the impact they had on future designs. It will then discuss a
design and layout case study and the setting up of a contractor management system for a site
expansion.
Tacoma Bridge Collapse
Brief Description of the Disaster The Tacoma Narrows Bridge (aka Galloping Gertie ) was opened to
traffic on July 1, 1940 and was built to link Tacoma to the Gig Harbour. The Tacoma Bridge was built
with a light design which made it very sensitive to high winds. It lacked the ability to resist the winds
but rather swayed and vibrated with the wind direction (Britton, n.d.). Due the harmonic phenomena,
the swaying of the bridge worsened (Britton, n.d.). Four months after the opening of the bridge on
November 7, 1940, there was a 70 kilimeter per hour wind storm around the bridge area. The wind
caused the bridge to sway and vibrate turbulently from side to side, until it eventually tore the bridge
apart (Britton, n.d.).
Cause of the Disaster The cause of the incident was as result of the structure of the bridge which could
not resist the wind. Rather than resist the wind directional flow, it let the wind pass through it (Britton,
n.d.). As a result, the combined force of the winds and the internal stress in the bridge structure was far
too great for what the bridge could withstand, leading to its self destruction (Britton,

Musculoskeletal Disorder Case Study
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs, but can also
affect the lower limbs. They may result from more than one of these tissues. Causes Most work related
MSDs develop over time. Normally they do not have a single cause: they are often caused by a
combination of several factors. Among the physical causes and risk factors related to work
organization include: Handling loads , especially when you rotate or bend your back; Repetitive
movements or that require an effort; Taking improper or static postures; Vibration, low light or work
in cold environments; Intense pace of work; Prolonged retention of the same standing position or
sitting. Symptoms Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) may grow in ... Show more content on

Some of the drugs used to promote sleep include eszopiclone (Lunesta), zolpidem (Ambien), and
ramelteon (Rozerem). Other treatments may include: The injections with anesthetic medications or

includes strengthening and stretching of muscle. Relaxation / biofeedback techniques Acupuncture or
acupressure Osteopathic manipulation (an entire system of evaluation and treatment designed to
achieve and maintain health by restoring the body s normal function) Chiropractic Therapeutic
massage Prevention Preventive measures are the best ways to help prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
These disorders are not common during adulthood, but the risk increases with age. This is why it is
essential to change your lifestyle habits now to avoid the potential pain later. Regular strengthening
exercises and stretching can help keep the bones, joints and muscles strong. Also be careful in the
manner in which you complete your daily tasks. Maintain a high posture to prevent back pain and be

Achilles Refusal To Agamemnon In The Iliad
In book nine of the Iliad, Homer portrays Achilles refusal to Agamemnon as the circumstance of the
Greek world s structure being out of order. A world of system, where many warriors risk their lives in
seek of honor. Swift runner (9.638) Achilles is conscious and aware that the Greek realm is stagnant
and heading to its own doom. Achilles fights hard in battles in the name of mighty king (9.368)
Agamemnon and in returns gets nothing. In addition, he also deeply feels the nihilism of the Greek
culture and its order. Bernard Knox writes, a pattern fixed from the beginning and not subject to
change or on the other hand, the complete freedom and meaningless anarchy of an unpredictable
universe (Knox 40). Knox relates how uncertain universes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Agamemnon s rage, cowardliness and bad leadership also plays some parts of his refusal. Just like
Helen, Bresies also had an effect on Achilles to judgement to refusing Agamemnon s ransom. He was
in love with her and Agamemnon dishonors him and takes her away and that makes Achilles angry. In
the Iliad, beautiful women are the main reason to war and rage. Achilles has nothing to lose because
son of Atreus (9.369) already took his honor, reputation and his Bresies. Even if Achilles let[s] [his]
heart devouring anger go! (9.316) for his companions that would never restore what he already lost.

The Impact Of Melting Glaciers On The Environment
The argument s main idea is that melting glaciers may have a negative impact on the environment, but
they are allowing scientists to make new discoveries. The author, Alan Burdick, develops this
argument by explaining that glaciers are melting at a rapid rate, which causes disruptions in the
ecosystem. However, scientists are able to find artifacts that were once frozen in the glaciers. These
artifacts would have been unavailable to scientists if the glaciers had not started melting. Many of the
ancient items are in perfect condition because they were frozen in the ice. One example of a recent
finding is a wooden box that is believed to have stored food. The article shows how these artifacts
help scientists have a better understanding of the

Plastic and Fantasy in U.S. Advertising
The United States is a country that has an over flowing number of magazines and advertisements that
give citizens an unrealistic image of how they should portrayed. These magazines and advertisements
are filled with models and celebrities who sometimes make an individual feel insecure about herself or
himself. Most Americans are now turning to cosmetic surgery in order to obtain the appearance after
observing these images. The citizens of the United States who turn to cosmetic surgery often times do
not realize the potential risks involved. Cosmetic surgery is not an operation that should be taken
lightly; no one should go through it unless it were to be for reconstructive reasons. When people hear
the word plastic surgery the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That just may not be the case with a doctor s office (Alagna 34). If someone strongly desires cosmetic
surgery at least it should be at least performed where safety procedures are carried out carefully. At a
hospital everyone is certified and has a license that allows them to perform surgery. Patients that do
not have a full knowledge about their doctor s safety procedures and medical licenses could lead to
death. People who claim to be doctors in offices only have the purpose of making money. Cosmetic
surgery has become a booming, 10.1 billion dollar business each year in the U.S., according to the
American Society of Plastic Surgeons (Goudreau 5). The amount of money Americans are paying in
order to improve their appearance is astronomical. Many people have undergone cosmetic surgery
procedures for which they literally will be paying for the rest of their life (Alagna 48). Nevertheless,
there are still individuals who are willing to have a debt that would take away their chances of
purchasing a house or car due to the financial burden of surgery. People who do not have enough
money to pay for their surgery are highly likely to borrow money from friends and family, in order to
fulfill their wishes for a better appearance. There are people who will not only borrow money from
loved ones but also from credit card

Cryptococcus Neoformans is a Basidiomycetous Yeast Fungus
Introduction/Background
Cryptococcus neoformans is a basidiomycetous yeast fungus that is enclosed with a polysaccharide
capsule. C. neoformans can undergo sexual reproduction that is due to crossing α and a mating types,
resulting in the formation of sexual spores or basidiospores (Buchanan and Murphy, 1998). It is an
intracellular pathogen that affects more than one million individuals, resulting in over 700,000 deaths
per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Individuals become infected with this
pathogen when they inhale fungal particles from the various sources that C. neoformans is found in:
bird guano, decaying vegetables and soil (Upadhya et al. 2013). These particles then enter the alveoli
within the lungs. In individuals with a healthy immune system, the infection is cleared or stays
dormant until an imbalance of the immune system occurs. However, in individuals with compromised
immune systems such as those with HIV, cancer or those taking corticosteroid medications; the fungus
can disseminate and enter the central nervous system. Symptoms include coughing, chest pain, fever,
weight loss, pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome as well as meningoencephalitis that is fatal
if left untreated (Bose et al. 2003; Upadhya et al. 2013).
Cell mediated immunity in the infected host is very important to respond to fungal invaders.
Phagocytic cells like macrophages, and neutrophils produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) which kill

I Was On A Mission
I was on a mission. A mission to find the answers to burning questions I had after completing my case
study #30. It brought on so many mixed feelings about what a school leader can accomplish at a
school that has a toxic culture and climate that being Roosevelt High School (RHS). Let me explain.
RHS is a long withstanding neighborhood school with a very diverse student population with a wide
variety of academic and social emotional needs. The faculty at RHS has been there for quite some
time thus have tenure. The staff has strong union representation or at least that is what appears to be
the case. My principal, assistant principals, and myself were new to RHS. While there, we observed
many questionable behaviors and activities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were in for a huge challenge.
Interestingly, I read a book called the Five dysfunctions of a team by Patrick Lencioni. It is a
leadership fable that tells the story of a team of executives that are not working as a team. They
struggle with recognizing their true potential in themselves and their team members. The team also
struggles with accepting responsibility and coming to any agreements resulting in negative morale that
influence their subsequent departments in a negative way, as well. And what resonated with me is that
behaviors, attitudes, and activities like this really happen in the culture of an organization. I saw
evidence of each dysfunction in RHS from lack of trust, fear of conflict, lack of accountability, and
inattention to results. (Lencione, 2010) You see as a teacher, the assumption is that your main focus is
your students in your classroom nothing else matters because the things outside of those walls are
things you can t control. However, when you see things through the lens of a leader, certain activities,
attitudes, and behaviors are not as controllable or seem right anymore. Therefore, upon that light, as
principal you reach out to your leadership team for insight into the causes for the problem of practice
and actions needed to

  • 2. Should the 22nd Amendment Be Repealed In the political world today there are so many different opinions about several different topics. The topics that I will address to you will be, should the 22nd Amendment be repealed and also should the foreign born be allowed to run for president. In both topics you may have your pros and cons, but I am strongly against the both of them because I feel that the Constitution should not be taken advantage of. Government should not be allowed to manipulate the Constitution to suit his or her needs. While making adjustments to the Constitution to allow different things to take place for convenience doesn t leave any form respect of the Constitution. There should be a line drawn to keep this from happening for years to come on these issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It reads, No person except a natural born citizen ... shall be eligible to the office of president (CNN News, 2004). Schwarzenegger s supporters are pushing for a constitutional amendment that would allow the Austrian born governor to run for president while others are against this change, (USA Today, 2005). These issues and other issues are just a test to see if the American people will allow such changes to take place without having input on it. In addition, it could become a test of American attitudes toward immigrants in the post 9/11 era, and also put some more thought into the topic of interest. I am totally against it because I am employed by the Immigration service and changes to the Constitution would allow room for disasters to our country. Although, there are some immigrants that are here to make a difference, there are still others who will not remain loyal to our country and follow our guidelines of making our country a safe and better place to live. http://www.termlimits.org/Current_Info/22nd Amendment text.html ... • 4. Essay on The Place of Scripture in Christian Faith As part of revivals in Christian faith during 18th century onward three practices evolved into their own interpretation on the place and authority of Scripture in the Christian faith. The first of these were the Liberals who viewed themselves as the saviors of a defunct out of date Christianity (Bingham 149). Their founder, Friedrich Schleiermacher an 18th century pastor, did not view traditional, authoritative doctrines, creeds and biblical texts as the preeminent sources in theology (150). Instead the Liberal perspective of Christianity put more emphasis on the doctrines of sin and grace and less attention on the holiness of the trinity (Kerr 213). Jesus was viewed as a historical figure that we can learn from spiritually and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Neo Orthodoxical view on faith is that it is a step into the unknown, made on the basis of that which is already known. Faith is neither totally rational nor totally irrational (Lane 270). Following this is then the concept that knowing all of Christian history or knowledge of the Bible does not equal faith (270). Those of the Neo Orthodox faith believe that the Bible is the word of God only in the sense that it witnesses to the past event of God speaking and that God again speaks through it today (275). Because God speaks throughout the Bible and is the living word it should be viewed as a whole that spreads the message of Jesus Christ (Kantzer 19). The Neo Orthodox movement sought to enforce the Bible as the eternal word of God and his only as the guidance for our walk in faith and a manual of sorts to seek Him and reach heaven. As each different theological movement evolved and became a form of Christian practice there followed the good and the bad aspects of each. The Liberalist did well to become a part of society and distance themselves from the strict and traditional practices of Christianity. Although with this new adaption of the faith they lost part of the meaning of being a Christian. Liberalist placed more emphasis on faith and with this they taught the love of God but denied his holy wrath against sin thus ending with a sentimental concept of love (Lane 271). • 5. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Case Study Operative Management of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Introduction Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS) affects a significant proportion of people in the population and can cause discomfort, limit activities of daily living, and can lead to significant disability. Even though numerous technological advancements have been made in the treatment of LSS, its management continues to be a challenge for both patients and healthcare professionals. Spinal Stenosis is a condition characterized by either narrowing of the spinal canal, also known as the Central Stenosis, or narrowing of the vertebral foramina (Delitto et al., 466). The combination effect of the loss of disc space, osteophytes, and hypertrophic lingamentum culminate to LSS (Genevay and Atlas 253). LSS is referred to as degenerative arthritis and the foraminal narrowing leads to a condition referred to as neurogenic claudication. Because of this narrowing, the spinal cord, and the spinal nerves are compressed thereby causing painful symptoms in the organs served by the affected nerves (Fishman 1141). King has this to say about Poe s works, He wasn t just a mystery/suspense writer, adds the author many fans would describe as the modern Poe, Stephen King. He was the first (Hockensmith). Poe s detective fiction or mystery fiction can best be felt in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is one of the best knows detectives in the history of literature. His fame can be spotted in the books that have been written and the movies that have been produced about Holmes. Poe s works were able to influence the author of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, in which he based the character of Sherlock Holmes off of one of Poe s characters whose name was Dupin who was used in the mystery story The Murders in the Rue Morgue. The similarities between the two characters are quite grand. Both are solitary men who prefer to live quietly in either isolation or in the company of one close companion. ( Nineteenth Century Influenced Poe ). Both men also tend to shift to the bottom of their mysteries without a large amount of clues that other detective writers appear to have in their stories. The impact that Poe has had on authors and stories cannot be matched. His stories have provided a model for future authors to use, in the hope of growing the notoriety of mystery fiction or the horror genre. Navigational knowledge of Spaniards of this time was elementary and seamen were considerably ignorant on navigation according to Columbus (Van Sertima, p.57). Normally, I would not generalize and that there may be some exceptions, but Columbus is said to have spearheaded trans Atlantic navigation, thus, him saying that Europeans were poor in navigation ought to have considerable weight. Europeans came into possession of such skills during the Renaissance (Daniels/ Hyslop, p.) of the 14th century. These beliefs would be true if not for the fact that Bly was so much more. She was much more a woman, much more a writer, much more a hero and much more than most could ever be. Bly not only took on a world of injustice and stereotypes, but conquered it and changed the way the field of journalism works today. Elizabeth Cochran, a.k.a. The newspaper s editor was so taken with her letter that he asked her to reveal herself, and within a week, offered her a writing position with the publication (Toth 1999). It was then, at the young age of 20, that Cochran adopted the pen name Nellie Bly. A Star is Born: A World is Changed Bly was not content to just write columns for the Dispatch and confronted her editors about engaging in a new kind of journalism. This new type of undercover journalism, nicknamed stunt at the time, was risky enough for a reporter, let alone a female one. Bly s first stunt assignment was to disguise herself as a destitute woman and get a job at a local copper cable factory (Wildemuth 1999). Bly s illustrative descriptions of the factory s hazardous conditions not only forced the public to take interest in the workers issues but also increased the paper s circulation. In 1887, Bly moved to New York to continue her journalistic ambitions. • 19. The Theory Of Feminist Care Ethics A moral theory determines what is right or wrong based off a structured set of statements. There are many different moral theories each obtaining their own set of guidelines for determining whether an action is morally right or wrong. In this paper I consider one objection against feminist care ethics. First I will outline the theory, and then discuss in detail the aspects of the theory that the objection targets. Next I will explain what the objection states. Lastly I will describe why it is a serious problem with the theory. Feminist Care Ethics is a moral theory that is mainly focuses on emotions and caring for those we are responsible for. There are many features within this theory. First, the main focus of feminist care ethics is attending to whom we are responsible for. The theory acknowledges that throughout a lifetime there are times where people will need to be cared for whether it is in their early years or later. Those who are responsible for a person in need of care have an obligation to care for them. For example a mother to her dependent child or a daughter to her ill mother or father (Held, 2006, p. 478 9). Second, what is considered to be moral or immoral should be based off of valued emotions. Valued emotions are sympathy, empathy, sensitivity, and responsiveness. These are valued because they are considered kind and moral. I support this part of the theory because other moral theories rely on reason and rationalistic deductions and calculations in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Were tyrannies or democracies more prevalent? When and where exactly? Let s take a look. Tyranny is the rule by one powerful dictator, called tyrant. Tyrant is defined as a ruler who has seized power without legal right. Where tyrants appeared? In fact, many states, in the 6th century BC particularly, were ruled by a tyrant, including Pisistratus in Athens. A tyrant takes power by force. He is usually from a noble family but often had the support of poor people. In a Tyranny power is not inherited, unlike a monarchy. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.). The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature. The English word is derived from myringa, modern Latin for drum membrane, and tome, Greek for cutting. It is also called myringocentesis, tympanotomy, tympanostomy of the tympanic membrane. Fluid in the middle ear can be drawn out through the incision. Ear tubes, or tympanostomy tubes, are small tubes open at both ends that are inserted into the incisions in the eardrums during myringotomy. They come in various shapes and sizes and are made of plastic, metal, or both. Eustachian tube is a 35mm long auditory tube, functions to connect the middle ear to the upper pharynx. They are left in place until they fall out by themselves or until they are removed by a doctor. Fluid collection that lasts longer than three months and does not respond to drug treatment. This condition is also called glue ear. Myringotomy is the recommended treatment if the condition lasts four to six months. Effusion refers to the collection of fluid that escapes from blood vessels or the lymphatic system. In this case, the effusion collects in the middle ear. Acute inflammation of the middle ear with effusion is treated with one or two courses of antibiotics . Antihistamines and decongestants have been used, but they have not been proven effective unless there is also hay fever or some other allergic inflammation that contributes to the problem. • 34. Edmund Burke The Great Debate Politics now a days is hard to understand and when we do understand and want to create change it s hard to get our government to create change. In The Great Debate: Edmund Burke, Thomas Paine, and the Birth of Right and Left, Levin tells the story of an unfriendly rivalry between the progenitors modern conservatism and modern liberalism. In the time Burke and Paine shared the late 18th century philosophical arguments could ignite revolutions, and pamphlets could be as important as battles. Both Burke and Paine were masters of political rhetoric at a time when political rhetoric really mattered, and their rivalry still reverberates. In today s society about conflicts between the police and minority communities in the US, Burk would take a position that the american government has to change some laws around in order to create equality and justice while Pain would take a position of starting all over is the way to go to create something better for all. ... Burke mentions that the old and tried model will not always work, of course, but when it fails, societies would be wise to fix it by gradually building on what does work about it rather than by starting fresh with an untried idea (66). As society [is] always changing, its law need to change too (9) in order to keep a balance of equality and justice in our society. Again, it was a little different movie for Hallmark, and it was nice to see you cast in a little bit different role. I thought it was entertaining. And I didn t know how it was going to come across necessarily with me as the figure skating coach, but I have done a lot of coaching. I was ski instructor for many years. Whether I knew anything about the sport or not, a coach is a coach, and I tapped into that side of things. I channeled my dad a bit. He s always been a coach of mine. Yes, from what I understand, we have a pretty good theatrical release scheduled in about 1800 theaters across the U.S. It was supposed to be in theaters at the end of March, but for whatever reason, it s being pushed back a bit. Okay, this movie sounds like something I would like to see, and I am sure it would be very appealing to the Hallmark audience as well. Oh, yes, the movie came out so nicely. It was beautifully shot. It honors the military, and I play a NASCAR driver. Rather similar to The Perfect Catch. • 36. Persuasive Essay On Breaking Rules Kim Harrison say that Breaking rules isn t bad when what you re doing is more important than the rule itself. In discussion of rebellion, one controversial issue has been showing that everyone s bewilderment. On the one hand, people argued that it is unsuitable to infringe the rules. On the other hand, people demonstrate that it is justified to contravene the rules. However, I believe that it is right to break the rules when it support a cause you believe in, unfairly and understandable. One key reason why we should break the rules when it supports a cause that you believe in, a cause that is right because you believe, in your opinion, defying authority may help other people. One clear example of this is from the text, Hunger games. Katniss breaks several rules to help her people and her family. To understand why Katniss breaks the rules is because her people live in a oppressed life in a society by all the specific rules like weapon not allow, hunting not allow, and you can not go in the wood to pay or sell food. Katniss have to ignore the rules go in the wood, hunt and trade food so her family can have food to survive. Another strong example is from The Montgomery Bus Boycott, when Rosa Parks break the rules on the bus, don t give up her seat on the bus because white people in texas being racist which mean black people have to give up their seat for white people. Rosa park shirk the law and justify for her people. To better understand in that situation is because when other people life in danger you believe that you should stand up and speak for them as a hero. There are many people life get in danger or dead because no one believed themself or wanted to stand up and speak for other people. This historical document illustrates that we should help other people when we think our believe is not wrong. Another important reason when is it right to break the rules is when it unfairly. One significant example is that from the text article title Marriage is a Private Affair. • 37. Critically Examine Sociological Views of Sects in Society... A sect is a subgroup of a religious, political or philosophical belief system, usually an offshoot of a larger religious group. Although in past it was mostly used to refer to religious groups, it has since expanded and in modern culture can refer to any organization that breaks away from a larger one to follow a different set of rules and principles. Sects are smaller, less highly organised grouping of committed believers who usually set themselves up in protest at what a church has become. Sects usually have members who are usually numbered around the couple of hundred mark, showing the main difference between them and the church. According to Troeltsch (1931), sects are essentially the polar opposite of churches. They are much smaller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stark and Bainbridge (1985) are critical of typologies, arguing that there are always overlaps between categories. Instead, they ran organisations on their tension contributed into society, as they don t see all organised groups to be a threat. They say that Sects are small religious groups, which are an offshoot of an existing religion and are in a high degree of tension with the outside world. However, a problem with Stark and Bainbridge s definitions is that they argue that typologies do not adequately categorise religions because the boundaries are not clear cut, but then produce their own typology, which could be criticised for the same thing. For example, it is unclear how much involvement members have to have for an organisation to be regarded as a sect. Weber (1922), like Troeltsch, argues that sects tended to be amongst marginal groups in society, that is, people outside the mainstream of social life who felt they weren t gaining economic rewards from society they deserved. These sects developed a theodicy of disprivilege, which is a religious explanation and justification for their disadvantages, which often promised them salvation in the afterlife. Wilson (1970) also agrees with this explanation as he says that those in situations like defeat in war, natural disasters and economic collapses would lead to these people becoming marginalised and turning to new religions. After five minutes of waiting, another visitor stood beside me searching for her leaf as well. There were also some important small group swing recordings during the 1930 s and 1940 s. These differed from earlier small groups in that these featured very little collective improvisation. This music emphasized the individual soloist. Goodman, Ellington, and Basie recorded often in these small group settings. Major saxophonists of the era include Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. Trumpet players include Roy Eldridge, Harry quot;Sweets quot; Edison, Cootie Williams, and Charlie Shavers. Pianists include Ellington, Basie, Teddy Wilson, Erroll Garner, and Oscar Peterson; guitarists include Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessell, and Django Reinhardt; vibraphonists include Lionel Hampton; bassists include Jimmy Blanton, Walter Page, and Slam Stewart; drummers include Jo Jones and Sam Woodyard. Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald were important singers in this era. Most of these musicians recorded in small groups as well as with big bands. The styles of these musicians can best be summarized by saying they concentrated primarily on playing melodically, on the swing feel, and on the development of an individual sound. It will describe three design disasters and examine the causes of the disaster and the impact they had on future designs. It will then discuss a design and layout case study and the setting up of a contractor management system for a site expansion. Tacoma Bridge Collapse Brief Description of the Disaster The Tacoma Narrows Bridge (aka Galloping Gertie ) was opened to traffic on July 1, 1940 and was built to link Tacoma to the Gig Harbour. The Tacoma Bridge was built with a light design which made it very sensitive to high winds. It lacked the ability to resist the winds but rather swayed and vibrated with the wind direction (Britton, n.d.). Due the harmonic phenomena, the swaying of the bridge worsened (Britton, n.d.). Four months after the opening of the bridge on November 7, 1940, there was a 70 kilimeter per hour wind storm around the bridge area. The wind caused the bridge to sway and vibrate turbulently from side to side, until it eventually tore the bridge apart (Britton, n.d.). Cause of the Disaster The cause of the incident was as result of the structure of the bridge which could not resist the wind. Rather than resist the wind directional flow, it let the wind pass through it (Britton, n.d.). As a result, the combined force of the winds and the internal stress in the bridge structure was far too great for what the bridge could withstand, leading to its self destruction (Britton, ... C. neoformans can undergo sexual reproduction that is due to crossing α and a mating types, resulting in the formation of sexual spores or basidiospores (Buchanan and Murphy, 1998). It is an intracellular pathogen that affects more than one million individuals, resulting in over 700,000 deaths per year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Individuals become infected with this pathogen when they inhale fungal particles from the various sources that C. neoformans is found in: bird guano, decaying vegetables and soil (Upadhya et al. 2013). These particles then enter the alveoli within the lungs. In individuals with a healthy immune system, the infection is cleared or stays dormant until an imbalance of the immune system occurs. However, in individuals with compromised immune systems such as those with HIV, cancer or those taking corticosteroid medications; the fungus can disseminate and enter the central nervous system. Symptoms include coughing, chest pain, fever, weight loss, pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome as well as meningoencephalitis that is fatal if left untreated (Bose et al. 2003; Upadhya et al. 2013).
