Examples Of Exceptionality In Tangled, The Incredibles,...
Throughout my paper I will discuss how the exceptionality of certain individuals is presented in
Tangled, The Incredibles, and Spirited Away, and also how their exceptionality relates to society. The
exceptional characters in these movies are positively different from the average ones, and the
differences are presented by giving these characters special abilities. In Tangled, Rapunzel is able to
heal people, control aging, agility, adaptability, and magic tears. In The Incredibles, Bob Parr/Mr.
Incredible has super strength, Helen Parr/Elastigirl is able to super stretch her body, Violet Parr can
become invisible and generate impact resistant force shields, Dash Parr has super speed, and Jack Jack
Parr has a rage of powers. In Spirited Away, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story illustrates that exceptionality is innate within all of us, but sometimes as we get older we
lose our abilities. Chihiro is considered an exceptional character because she can see and communicate
with the spirit world. Her parents have lost touch with their ability to notice things outside of human
world and they suffer because of this. Chihiro is able to go on a journey that saves her and her parents,
and because she succeeds in the end it is implied that it is important to hold on to your exceptionality
even as you grow old. In Spirited Away, the only characters able to react to Chihiro s presence in the
spirit world are the spirits. The spirits that work in the bath house aren t pleased that there is a human
in their presence, they blame things on her, and make her do the dirty jobs. Towards the end of the
movie these spirits get over their prejudices and begin to love Chihiro. In the beginning she is seen as
simply a freak that doesn t belong, but by the end she proves herself and everyone has learned from
her. Chihiro s exceptionality is the only reason she was able to be the hero of her story; her parents lost
touch with their culture and almost got themselves

Hansen s Disease
Hansen s Disease and its Effects on the Homeostasis of Organ Systems
Hansen s disease, more commonly known as leprosy, is a chronic infectious disease that affects the
skin and peripheral nerves, and to a lesser extent, the respiratory and muscular systems of the body
(niaid/nih.giov/diseases conditions/leprosy hansens disease). It is caused by an infection by the
bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It was discovered by Dr. Gerhard H.A. Hansen of Norway in 1873.
Soon, the disease leprosy became known as Hansen s disease in honor of his discovery. The disease is
spread through prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months
(cdc.gov). It is important to note that one cannot become infected through casual contact ... Show

The muscular system, in conjunction with the skeletal system, is responsible for movement of the
body among other things (VanPutte, 270). The ability of the human body to move has been critical in
the survival of the species over the years for example; escaping from predators is only possible with
skeletal muscle contraction. Hansen s disease generally only affects the peripheral nerves of the
extremities, not the locations of the larger muscle groups; however the smaller muscles of the hands
and feet are vital for the well being of individuals. For example, it would be quite difficult to feed
oneself without the use of hands. Unfortunately, extreme cases of Hansen s disease cause paralysis of
the individual s hands and feet. Paralysis occurs due to deadening of the peripheral nerves, both
sensory and motor. As the afferent neurons lose the ability to receive and send stimuli, the nerve
impulses (action potentials) are sent to the central nervous system less and less often. Even so, the
action potentials that are transmitted to the CNS still are unlikely to stimulate the skeletal muscles for
contraction. This is because the efferent peripheral neurons of the hands and feet are damaged as well.
In effect, the sensory nerves of the extremities cannot receive much stimuli, and the motor neurons are
also less able to start the action potentials in the skeletal muscle

Essay about Motivation for Work
Work is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape
from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it
is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will
experience at one time or another during our lives. There are several reasons why a person goes to
work. These reasons can be better explained as work motivation . Work motivation can be defined as
the inner forces that make us work and want to work harder to achieve personal or organizational
goals (George Jones, 2005). There are two different types of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic. When
personal goals motivate us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, things like total accomplishment motivate Aberdeen s employees; they thrive on
bettering the work environment, learning new skills and getting to participate in group leadership.
You could say that the main difference between the Aberdeen and Green River plants have mostly to
do with which type of motivational reasoning each have. Aberdeen employees are motivated for
intrinsic reasons. They continue to work hard for the satisfaction of the entire company doing well, as
Green River employees do things for extrinsic reasons. They are only concerned with doing only what
it takes to make more money.
There are several different ways an employer can motivate their employee s: job design goals,
performance appraisal, pay, and career development. Job design is the process of envisioning and
defining specific work systems for a particular job, and deciding what techniques, procedures, and
equipment that it will take to do the job (George Jones, 2005). Job design plays an important role in
enhancing motivational levels in the workplace. It seems that if you can break jobs down individually
and make them simpler to understand do, then people are more apt to do them effectively. With this in
mind, I would like to recommend that Green River s management break their jobs down into steps to
help simplify and make for better production. Developing goals and teams, as well as teaching them to

Fermentation Is A Natural Process
Fermentation is a natural process. Meaning that it has always been constantly happening whether we
are aware or not. When it comes to fermented foods, it speaks on a fermentation process that has been
manipulated for centuries by mankind. Humans have taken this pure process and used it as a way to
preserve flavors, and create exciting new flavors. There are the common foods that many are aware of
that undergo fermentation including bread, yogurt, wine, and beer. But the new trend in the
fermentation of foods focuses on vegetables and fruits like sauerkraut, pickles, and Kombucha. What
happens is these vegetables are soaked in salt water (or their own juice). Doing this allows for the
growth of bacteria, which in turn eat the vegetable sugars, and produce lactic acid. This acid produces
a product that has a sour, tart, or funky taste which all depend on the pH levels at the end of the
process and the palate of the person consuming the product. When the pH levels drop the lactic acid
levels go up, which cause the bad bacteria to die off, because they cannot survive acidic conditions.
While all of this happens the tart flavors begin to emerge.[1]
This fermentation of fruits and vegetables has allowed many new products to appear on the market.
One of these products has been a food item called kimchi. Kimchi is a traditional food, in the Korean
culture, of fermented vegetables which is often cabbage. It has an acquired taste that is very pungent,
and vibrant. Other vegetables

Warm Hat Essay
This super comfortable and warm hat is a quick and easy knitting project that an individual can do
without having to crochet or do traditional knitting. As a beginner, using looms is the easiest way to
work with yarn projects. There are a bunch of types of looms that can be used to make hats, scarves,
ear warms, bag, etc. A bunch of projects can be done on a loom without having any experience in
knitting or crochet. This hat can be done on a round loom, the size will depend if it is done for an adult
or a child. For this project, the hat will be for an adult size.

Start from the peg that is to the left of the anchor peg. Push the hook under the two bottom strands of
the yarn and pull it up over the top strands of the yarn. The groove in the beg is very helpful for this
process. Now loop the bottom yarn over all around the loom. To continue knitting, wrap around all the
pegs again from the begging on the beg right above the anchor peg and then bring the bottom yarn
loop over the top of the peg again. Once there is about an inch or two of stitches done, take the yarn of
the anchor peg so that it is not pulling as the project is continued. About fifteen rows need to be
knitted to continue to the next step.
Step 5: Knitting the brim
After knitting a few rows, fold them over so there is a doubled over bit of knitting. This makes the hat
look more finished and also helps keep the hat in place on the head. To knit the brim, bring up the tail
from the initial part of the hat and loop it around to the right of the anchor peg. Put the loops all the
way around the loom then finish the brim by using the hook to loop the pull the bottom yarn loops
over the top loops. Now the brim is secure, wrap the pegs and start knitting as normal again.

Separation And Separation Of Spinach Pigments By Paper...
INTRODUCTION Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use
sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. The photosynthesis process and their
capability of producing organic materials from CO2 is having a big influence in the biosphere. The
process of photosynthesis generates the plants to take two inorganic substances, CO2 and water, and
also light, and remodel their atoms to make the organic compounds on which life depends: (McGraw

In order to allow light to enter the plant body and, in particular, to be used in the process of
photosynthesis, the absorption of pigments is necessary. A pigment is a colored substance that absorbs

Separation and identification of spinach pigments by Paper Chromatography. Pigments are relatively
non polar organic substances that are why I obtained the separation with the help of the petroleum
ether and acetone solution. I was able to obtain two main types of chlorophyll: chlorophyll a which is
bluish or dark green, and chlorophyll b which is yellowish or light green. The yellow pigments in
leaves are called xanthophyll and the orange pigments are called carotenoids. The orange colored
band, made of the pigment called carotenoids are the most soluble in alcohol, so it traveled the
farthest. After analyzing the results of the paper chromatography, the next step was the determination
of the absorption spectrum for the spinach leaf pigments chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, xanthophyll,

which quantitatively measured the fraction of the light passing through each pigment extract solution,
indicated on the absorbance scale. The wavelength was increased every 20 nm, starting with 400 nm,
and reaching 740 nm. The results are shown in Table 1 and Table

Different Types Of Cell Research
HSC Research Paper
From brain cells to skin cells, our body is made up of 200 different types of specialized cells. One of
the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in
other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout
your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to
develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. With regenerative abilities,
stem cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division and when the stem cell divides to
create another cell, the new cell has the potential to either stay a stem cell or differentiate into a ...

For over 40 years, they have been used to successfully treat the cancers of blood, including lymphoma
and leukemia. HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers
continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical
uses of HSCs.
The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated
that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other
words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or
platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in
which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice,
which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks
following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they
could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of
healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions,
such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells.
Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and
differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done,

The Protagonists In The Queen Of Spades And The Overcoat
Newfound obsession dictates protagonists lives in many short stories from the early 1800s. While it
briefly transforms their values and improves their lives, it ultimately leads to the protagonist s demise.
The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin (1834) and The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogol (1842)
illustrate this in their respective main characters: Hermann and Akaky. Both Hermann and Akaky are
economical men. Hermann is prudent with his inheritance from his father and does not gamble, as he
is not in the position to sacrifice the necessary in the hopes of winning the superfluous (Pushkin 1).
Similarly, Akaky is a stingy man who, after hearing the price of a new overcoat, shrieked perhaps for

overcoat, grants Akaky the status and appearance of wealth that he previously lacked. Even before
receiving his coat, his life seems fuller, as if he were married (Gogol 34). This feeling is due to his
passion and ambition to earn the money to buy the coat, and is a significant improvement from Akaky
s previously meaningless, lonely life. Furthermore, the aforementioned insecure and hesitant nature
Akaky portrays such as his inability to speak complete sentences when speaking about difficult
matters (Gogol 30) disappeared of themselves (Gogol 34) due to the confidence that came with the
passion he has to earn the money for his coat. The benefits Herman receives are more tangible than
Akaky s. Instead of respect, Hermann wins 47 000 rubles then doubles his winnings (Pushkin 22) after
fulfilling his obsession of uncovering the card secret. He also gains the respect of all the other
gamblers, albeit for a short period of time. The fulfilment of these obsessions brought short term
improvement to the protagonists

Command Economic System
There are different types of economies, but the most common economic systems today are market and
command economy. Command economy is where there is a central authority that is basically in charge
of the what, how, and for whom decisions. All of the economic decisions are made by the government.
If the people make any type of decision in the economy then there is barely any influence over how
the basic economic questions are answered. In the market economic system, the people and firms act
in their own best interests to answer the what, how, and for who questions. The system is arranged that

Michael Pollan Food Chain Analysis
All across america, cows are confined to crowded, almost prison like cells, with little to no regard to
their health. They are forced to eat food that includes such ingredients like manure, cement, or even
cow brains. This is one side of farming, but there is another. This farming has cows and other animals
living how they would in nature, across rolling hills and bright green grasses. This is the essence of
Local Sustainable farming. As defined in Michael Pollan s award winning commentary about the food
we eat, The Omnivore s Dilemma, the Local Sustainable Food Chain, one of four possible food
chains, is characterized by not using pesticides, treating animals humanely, and sustainably creating
healthier organic food. Out of Michael Pollan s food chains, the Local Sustainable Food Chain is the
best for America as it is much less harmful to the environment and lets animals live in their natural
states.
The Local Sustainable Food Chain creates a healthier environment because the farmers work with the
land and animals in more natural ways and help the environment thrive. As shown by Polyface Farms,
a prime example of Local Sustainable farming, regular farming practices had created soil that was
either no longer fertile or had washed away. (Pollan 161) As Joel salatin, the owner of Polyface,

Also known as the oxygen family, chalcogens are sulfur (S), selenium (Se), tellurium(Te), and
polonium (Po). Oxygen (O) is also in group 16, where chalcogens are located on the periodic table.
While it is defined as a chalcogen, oxygen and oxides are often separated from chalcogens because its
chemical behavior is much different than that of the other elements in the group. The other elements in
the group show similar patterns in their electron configurations resulting in similar chemical behavior.

Selenium itself is a nontoxic element, but when made into a compound, it can become very toxic. For
example, Hydrogen selenide is intolerable to humans. Tellurium s name is derived from the latin word
for earth, tellus . It is very brittle and has a silvery white appearance. When a human is exposed to
even the smallest amount of Tellurium, they develop Tellurium breath , which smells like garlic. It was
discovered by Franz Joseph Mδller von Reichenstein, who was a the chief inspector of mines in
Transylvania, but was name by M. Klaproth. Polonium, which is very poisonous and radioactive, was
discovered by Marie Curie. She named it after her native country, Poland. It is very rare and is made
only in small quantities through a nuclear reaction of bismuth. An interesting fact about polonium is
that there actually is no real world use for it, but it can be used as a poison.

I verse 2 3, Abram asks the Lord what he (the Lord) wants from him since he does not have any

inherit his estate if he shall die. Who is this guy? Where did he come from I mean how is he involved
with Abram? From what I read in the notes of my bible (NIV) they say that this man could be the
servant of Abram. The servants of the owners can be the people that inherit the land of their owners if
the owner was to die. During my reading I never found out where he was from but I seen that he was
also kind of mentioned in Exodus 4:20. In verse 4 5 the Lord tells Abram that he will have children to
take over the land that he has. God has not given Abram everything that he has promised right on the
spot he wants to make sure that Abram has faith in him but he will fulfill his promises just as he said.
God tells Abram to count all the stars in the sky there are millions of them when he looks up. I believe
is saying that we are all decedents or children that Abram would have. Thus he will make a great
nation and have children. Here Abram repeats the idea of his servant getting the land. This could be
because he wants God to know he wants a child and that God has not given him any like he (God) had
promised. In verse 6, there is no talking between Abram and

Ban The Use Of Guns By Civilians
Pierce Hodges Mrs. Desanto Research paper Feb 9, 2015 A Call to Ban the use of Guns by Civilians
Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired,
signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are
not clothed. (citation) Guns are a major source of crisis in our nation today, and as President
Eisenhower speaks to in this quote, firearms take something away from society. We are supposed to be
a peaceful and civilized nation, but because of guns, we are becoming a violent nation and a disaster.

In that same situation, with no gun around, there is a much less chance of someone being severely
injured or killed. Many people suggest securing schools more by doing things like locking all doors,
bullet proof vestibules, mandatory ID and background checks, and even microchips monitoring people
s whereabouts in the school. All of these things may help, but the problem is much bigger than the
schools. The problem is in the access to guns that our laws allow. The use of guns by civilians should
be banned because, the statistics show that the more guns, the more chance for violence. The military
and law enforcement should be the only ones legally allowed to carry guns. When our forefathers
drafted the Bill of Rights with the Second Amendment protecting the individual right to possess
firearms, the society and the motive was different. it was a limited right and they left some authority
over it to the government. The government is able to limit this, so seeing how guns are negatively
affecting our society, they should use their power. There is no reason why so many people, living in
what is supposed to be a peaceful society, possess guns. About 16,272 murders were committed in the
United States during 2014. Of these, about 10,886, or 67%, were committed with firearms. A

In 1793, the National Convention in Paris created a new calendar for the French republic. The new
calendar renamed the months of the Gregorian calendar and rearranged them so that each month
contained three weeks of ten days each; at the end of each year there were five days of festivals
dedicated to virtue, intelligence, labor, opinion, and rewards. This calendar was kept in place until
1806 when it was abolished by Napoleon. The National Convention and other republican groups cited
many reasons for the adoption of a new calendar, including ridding the republic of the old regime and
implementing a more reasonable system. Although the revolutionaries viewed the calendar as an
improvement, others were quick to point out its flaws. Among the

Bad Girls Don T Die Essay
Ghosts or spirits are scary in movies. They make someone jump but, imagine being possessed by an
evil one. That is what my book Bad Girls Don t Die By: Katie Alender was about. Just to give a small
idea about the book, a high school girl is living the normal life when her little sister, Kasey, gets
possessed by a spirit in her home. The spirit tries to kill a cheerleader going to Alexis s high school.
They decided to go after the spirit and try to kill it. Throughout the entire book, they find different
evidence of who the spirit is and what happened. The author wrote the book giving emotions of scare
or terror, frightened or startled, and disgust. To do so she used lots of words and examples that you
would see in horror movies. But instead of a horror movie, it was a horror novel. Has anyone ever
changed their attitude or the way they acted? Did it scare you? One way that the author showed this to
be in the horror genre is throughout the book there was many parts that gave someone terror or made
someone scared. One way she did this was having Kasey be possessed. In ... Show more content on

covering fourteen states (from Maine to Georgia) by foot is no simple stroll where at the end of the
day a comfortable bed and hot meal would await you. Instead, hiking the Appalachian Trail can be an
endless battle with all the elements of mother nature: whereas in one state spring would have sprung
already with wildflowers dressing the forest floors and insects buzzing through crisp air, on other parts
of the trail it [the weather conditions] would be smothering heat, but meanwhile a few states north the
rain would fall endlessly with gusts of cold wind, and snow would blanket the pathways of the trail
and more than likely blizzards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of murders changes depending on the source and who was considered a hiker. He also
emphasized, there have also been known disappearances since the opening of the Appalachian Trail,
some simply lose their way and become disoriented or fall ill along the journey. At other times along
the journey people stop in a small town to refresh and simply decide to stay and start up a new life.
Even though it doesn t cost money to walk the actual Appalachian Trail, there will be cost along the
way, but way before someone can even begin to go on this expedition they have to ask themselves
whether or not they can financially afford to take this trip. It s best to save up money in advance and
buy the necessary supplies little by little leading up to the set off date. Something else someone may
want to consider is if they will have to take time off from work responsibilities and the next thing to
contemplate is the distance you are from the Appalachian Trail entrance, because you might have to
travel by plane, bus, or car in order to reach a part of the trail. Bill Bryson traveled all the way from
New England to begin his journey with his friend Katz, who came from Des Moines,

A Better Understanding Of Free Will
Jesus with two complete and separate natures, fully man in every way except for original sin, and
Jesus Divine one with God the father and the Holy Spirit. We are created with a desire in our hearts to
be drawn to the father and to do his will. We have the stain of original sin on our hearts since the fall.
Jesus has free will, his free will is not quite the same as ours, we are weak due to sin and Christ free
from sin is not tempered by sin. The purpose of this paper is to have a better understanding of free will
and to help us to have a deeper and closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
During the temptations of Christ in the desert we can see he was able to maintain his free will with his
human knowledge of the word of God. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in the kingdom of God. And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, Take this, and

it to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you. Jesus identifies the Eucharist with his body,
he takes ownership and what he has and he gives it away of his own free will. Do this in remembrance
of me. And likewise the cup after supper, saying, This cup which is poured out for you is the new

Personal Development and Reflective Reasoning in Nursing...
Maybe reflective practices offer us a way of trying to make sense of the uncertainty in our workplaces
and the courage to work competently and ethically at the edge of order and chaos... (Ghaye, 2000, p.7)
In order to fully understand the personal development and reflective reasoning in relation to your
development in the Nursing field, one will have to define these two terminologies. Personal
development means to include activities that improve awareness, can develop potential that will
ultimately enhance the quality of life. Medical colleges advocate personal development plans as a
basis for continuing professional development. Whereas, reflective reasoning is where a nurse can
apply learning and insights of others into their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be able to reflect one must step outside the experience in order to make the observance
comprehendible Gray (1998). To do this, one must have motivation. When speaking of motivation,
task variety and participation allows each member of the team to use different skills as well as rotating
the less desirable tasks giving a cohesive feeling to the team while motivating them. Bowen and
Lawler (1992), argue practices that empower such as providing organizational information to
employee, bureaucratic control reduction and increased self power all helps to increase employee
motivation. French and Raven (1959) add that motivation is a characteristic that makes one want to do
or carryout a task willingly without being directed.
Leadership is an important role in life and an even more important role in the success of a nurse. To be
a leader one must be creative. Creativity results from engaging in surroundings to seek new
possibilities. For the best outcome of reflection, and the use of creativity, one should be as impulsive
as possible in recording thoughts and feelings. Efficient clinical leaders are supposed to able to help
others to see and understand situations from various outlooks and effective clinical nurse leaders must
be willing to look for new ways of doing things. One theory that can be readily

The Villain Of Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Villain of Gatsby
Here s the thing about stories; they re all different, but they re all the same. Now, everyone knows how
they re different. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this
difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood.
They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the
hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. Every batman has a joker, Luke will always
face Darth Vader, and the mailman and dog will wage war to the end of time. It is by examining
stories through these archetypes that it becomes easier to see their similarities. When it comes to The
Great Gatsby, however, things become much more complicated. The story, complete with layers of
deception, lust, and corruption blurs the traditional archetypes that a reader looks for in a story. When
the individual qualities of the characters are examined, however, their roles can become much clearer.
Through his obsession, his false identity, and his selfish attitude Jay Gatsby is the villain of F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The term hopeless romantic isn t typically associated with villainous
behaviors. You don t see Romeo compared to Cruella De Ville fairly often. But when you look at Jay
Gatsby, his romanticism, and more importantly his obsession, leads to the collapse of the story.
Unfortunately for him, Gatsby allows one

Literature in the ESL Curriculum
The place of literature in education Why read literature? To many of us, such a question seems as
strange as asking why breathe? as literature has been part of our life, family, school, and community
for as long as we can remember. Of course, there are those who argue that what today s students need
is preparation for the real world, but in the push for practical preparedness we sometimes overlook the
importance of educating students imaginations. Literature offers windows to worlds outside students
experience as well as mirrors onto the world they already know. Literature also prepares students for
the personal challenges and moral dilemmas they are likely to face. We interpret the world constantly

What can easily be tested by questions with wrong and right answers is not, typically, what is of most
interest and value in the literary text. From 1939 to 1945, literature becomes a political safeguard
against indoctrination and propaganda and as a way to know what others were thinking. Literature is
increasingly seen from 1945 to 1957 as only appropriate to advanced level study, to which the student
gains access after having mastered the linguistic structures carefully graded through audiolingual
methods, a pleasurable reward for the successful, and an entertaining supplement to audiolingual drills
. In the next period, roughly 1957 to 1979, culture becomes a more important area of study and
literature is seen as reflecting a particular culture. From 1979 until the end of twentieth century
literature comes to be valued in the context of the rise of communicative language teaching, as
authentic text . Now literature gives the opportunity for vocabulary acquisition, the development of
reading strategies, and the training of critical thinking. The learner is the most important in the
communicative paradigm, the author, his or her intentions tend to be forgotten and the language of the
text is more an inconvenient obstacle on the way to examination of culture and society, rather than
central to those notions, and of interest in itself. A similar story emerges

Impact Of Greek Culture
Greek culture, in my opinion, contributed the most to the development of other future civilizations
culture. They paved the way to what is known about Greek and their culture as of today. With the idea
of their Religion, Art, Worship of many Gods, and ancient Greek music being the focal point of it all.
Which happens to be a great deal of the reason I chose Greek culture as my answer. Majority of the
time when you discuss Greece you bring up their past or how Greece came about and the impact past
Greek culture made on their people. This is what led me to believe their past culture in relation to the
contribution, development, and the impact it had on other civilizations would be the perfect answer

The Greeks music was probably the most culturally influential aspect out of all the things the Greeks
practiced. Their music also tied in other aspects of their culture which they loved to display in their
songs, and through their art. A great example of this is THE METER OF THE ILIAD AND THE
ODYSSEY which is a song based on the clash between two Gods Odysseus and Achilleus this piece is
only a stepping stone into what Greek music developed into as future civilizations came about.
Although this was early music Greek songs like this one are the ones that paved the way and made a
huge development as to what we know as Greek music, and made a great deal of impact on how they
display their music as of now throughout their culture.
When you view Greece as of today you would see a great deal of beautiful art, statues, vase paintings
and so on... A lot of these items are pieces of the past but are still being displayed throughout other
civilizations. While reading the text you will learn the Greeks art played a huge role in their culture
including many stages of art such as Geometric Art, Orientalizing Art, Archaic Art, and Vase painting.
These stages of art were the building blocks of art throughout other civilizations some are still
practiced and some are just treasures of the past to show how Greek culture came about.
To conclude the impact Greece made on other civilizations were through their art forms,

Airlines introduced railway style, uniformed stewards and restaurant style tables adorned with vases
of flowers and silver cutlery. In 1928, Pan Am became the first US airline to employ cabin attendants

set a precedent by installing facilities for heating food in flight on long over water journeys. Stewards

Forced Sterilization On Women During The United States
Forced sterilization on women
In the United States, 15 states have laws that fail to protect women with disabilities from involuntary

Peace And Violence By Galtung
As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault,
bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However,
what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because
as we have learned in class so far, Violence is Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an
easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical
but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression
either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will
discuss how violence can be viewed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my understanding,
if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable.
However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it
would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing,
bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its
intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good
representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In
Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and
viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the
mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the
child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our
western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is
conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic
families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to
discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in
Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In
the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies
on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on

Carpetbaggers
Carpetbaggers were northerners who headed to the southern states during and immediately after the
Civil War, propelled by wanting to work on behalf of liberated slaves, a desire for economic gain, or a
mix of both. Carpetbaggers got their name because many of them had large bags made from carpets to
hold their belongings. Although many in the South saw carpetbaggers as people who wanted to exploit
and profit from the south s misfortunes, Carpetbaggers would play an important role in shaping the
south s government during Reconstruction. African Americans in the south who had just been
emancipated were restricted their freedom when southern legislatures passed black codes , which
forced them into repressive labor situations. The Black Codes were laws designed with the intention to
guarantee African American s availability as a cheap labor force after slavery was eliminated during
the Civil War, and to keep white supremacy in place. Common examples of Black Codes were: Race

to understand how clients purchase their product, competition or how to best communicate with the

Key Issues
When a company desires to expand globally, there are several business decisions to make. The
physical expansion can often enough be one of the greatest initial challenges, but then it is followed
by cultural adjustments, new laws and borders. In the case study of the Sperry/MacLennan
Architecture firm, the company s desire to globally expand could present problems to implement as by
not considering other key markets.
The architecture firm is focused on growth and desires to design two sports facilities per year post
expansion. Often when companies are in a major expansion time, they may not take the necessary
steps to fully research all options. The Sperry/MacLennan Firm is no exception to this. The company
desires to jump on what seems to be a great opportunity, however, may not be investing in the
necessary resources to research it properly. Other markets that should be up for consideration are parts
of Europe or other areas within the United States (McDaniel, Jr, 2007).
The United States is one of the largest economies in the world. When the country thrives, there is great
opportunity and when the country is pained with recession the entire world feels it. A potential
challenge in expanding into the United States would be finding opportunities to build. The company
has chosen to focus on sports facilities, and within the new target market they see great

(PTSD). The population of interest for this study is veterans with PTSD. The ideal study would

that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio

The Importance Of Freedom In America
Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America.
Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white
people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true
feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order
#15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set
aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina,
245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white

  • 2. Examples Of Exceptionality In Tangled, The Incredibles,... Throughout my paper I will discuss how the exceptionality of certain individuals is presented in Tangled, The Incredibles, and Spirited Away, and also how their exceptionality relates to society. The exceptional characters in these movies are positively different from the average ones, and the differences are presented by giving these characters special abilities. In Tangled, Rapunzel is able to heal people, control aging, agility, adaptability, and magic tears. In The Incredibles, Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible has super strength, Helen Parr/Elastigirl is able to super stretch her body, Violet Parr can become invisible and generate impact resistant force shields, Dash Parr has super speed, and Jack Jack Parr has a rage of powers. In Spirited Away, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story illustrates that exceptionality is innate within all of us, but sometimes as we get older we lose our abilities. Chihiro is considered an exceptional character because she can see and communicate with the spirit world. Her parents have lost touch with their ability to notice things outside of human world and they suffer because of this. Chihiro is able to go on a journey that saves her and her parents, and because she succeeds in the end it is implied that it is important to hold on to your exceptionality even as you grow old. In Spirited Away, the only characters able to react to Chihiro s presence in the spirit world are the spirits. The spirits that work in the bath house aren t pleased that there is a human in their presence, they blame things on her, and make her do the dirty jobs. Towards the end of the movie these spirits get over their prejudices and begin to love Chihiro. In the beginning she is seen as simply a freak that doesn t belong, but by the end she proves herself and everyone has learned from her. Chihiro s exceptionality is the only reason she was able to be the hero of her story; her parents lost touch with their culture and almost got themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hansen s Disease Hansen s Disease and its Effects on the Homeostasis of Organ Systems Hansen s disease, more commonly known as leprosy, is a chronic infectious disease that affects the skin and peripheral nerves, and to a lesser extent, the respiratory and muscular systems of the body (niaid/nih.giov/diseases conditions/leprosy hansens disease). It is caused by an infection by the bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It was discovered by Dr. Gerhard H.A. Hansen of Norway in 1873. Soon, the disease leprosy became known as Hansen s disease in honor of his discovery. The disease is spread through prolonged, close contact with someone with untreated leprosy over many months (cdc.gov). It is important to note that one cannot become infected through casual contact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The muscular system, in conjunction with the skeletal system, is responsible for movement of the body among other things (VanPutte, 270). The ability of the human body to move has been critical in the survival of the species over the years for example; escaping from predators is only possible with skeletal muscle contraction. Hansen s disease generally only affects the peripheral nerves of the extremities, not the locations of the larger muscle groups; however the smaller muscles of the hands and feet are vital for the well being of individuals. For example, it would be quite difficult to feed oneself without the use of hands. Unfortunately, extreme cases of Hansen s disease cause paralysis of the individual s hands and feet. Paralysis occurs due to deadening of the peripheral nerves, both sensory and motor. As the afferent neurons lose the ability to receive and send stimuli, the nerve impulses (action potentials) are sent to the central nervous system less and less often. Even so, the action potentials that are transmitted to the CNS still are unlikely to stimulate the skeletal muscles for contraction. This is because the efferent peripheral neurons of the hands and feet are damaged as well. In effect, the sensory nerves of the extremities cannot receive much stimuli, and the motor neurons are also less able to start the action potentials in the skeletal muscle ... • 4. Essay about Motivation for Work Work is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will experience at one time or another during our lives. There are several reasons why a person goes to work. These reasons can be better explained as work motivation . Work motivation can be defined as the inner forces that make us work and want to work harder to achieve personal or organizational goals (George Jones, 2005). There are two different types of motivation; intrinsic and extrinsic. When personal goals motivate us, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, things like total accomplishment motivate Aberdeen s employees; they thrive on bettering the work environment, learning new skills and getting to participate in group leadership. You could say that the main difference between the Aberdeen and Green River plants have mostly to do with which type of motivational reasoning each have. Aberdeen employees are motivated for intrinsic reasons. They continue to work hard for the satisfaction of the entire company doing well, as Green River employees do things for extrinsic reasons. They are only concerned with doing only what it takes to make more money. There are several different ways an employer can motivate their employee s: job design goals, performance appraisal, pay, and career development. Job design is the process of envisioning and defining specific work systems for a particular job, and deciding what techniques, procedures, and equipment that it will take to do the job (George Jones, 2005). Job design plays an important role in enhancing motivational levels in the workplace. It seems that if you can break jobs down individually and make them simpler to understand do, then people are more apt to do them effectively. With this in mind, I would like to recommend that Green River s management break their jobs down into steps to help simplify and make for better production. • 7. Fermentation Is A Natural Process Fermentation is a natural process. Meaning that it has always been constantly happening whether we are aware or not. When it comes to fermented foods, it speaks on a fermentation process that has been manipulated for centuries by mankind. Humans have taken this pure process and used it as a way to preserve flavors, and create exciting new flavors. There are the common foods that many are aware of that undergo fermentation including bread, yogurt, wine, and beer. But the new trend in the fermentation of foods focuses on vegetables and fruits like sauerkraut, pickles, and Kombucha. What happens is these vegetables are soaked in salt water (or their own juice). Doing this allows for the growth of bacteria, which in turn eat the vegetable sugars, and produce lactic acid. This acid produces a product that has a sour, tart, or funky taste which all depend on the pH levels at the end of the process and the palate of the person consuming the product. When the pH levels drop the lactic acid levels go up, which cause the bad bacteria to die off, because they cannot survive acidic conditions. While all of this happens the tart flavors begin to emerge.[1] This fermentation of fruits and vegetables has allowed many new products to appear on the market. One of these products has been a food item called kimchi. Kimchi is a traditional food, in the Korean culture, of fermented vegetables which is often cabbage. It has an acquired taste that is very pungent, and vibrant. Other vegetables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Start from the peg that is to the left of the anchor peg. Push the hook under the two bottom strands of the yarn and pull it up over the top strands of the yarn. The groove in the beg is very helpful for this process. Now loop the bottom yarn over all around the loom. To continue knitting, wrap around all the pegs again from the begging on the beg right above the anchor peg and then bring the bottom yarn loop over the top of the peg again. Once there is about an inch or two of stitches done, take the yarn of the anchor peg so that it is not pulling as the project is continued. About fifteen rows need to be knitted to continue to the next step. Step 5: Knitting the brim After knitting a few rows, fold them over so there is a doubled over bit of knitting. This makes the hat look more finished and also helps keep the hat in place on the head. To knit the brim, bring up the tail from the initial part of the hat and loop it around to the right of the anchor peg. Put the loops all the way around the loom then finish the brim by using the hook to loop the pull the bottom yarn loops over the top loops. • 9. Separation And Separation Of Spinach Pigments By Paper... INTRODUCTION Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. The photosynthesis process and their capability of producing organic materials from CO2 is having a big influence in the biosphere. The process of photosynthesis generates the plants to take two inorganic substances, CO2 and water, and also light, and remodel their atoms to make the organic compounds on which life depends: (McGraw Hill) Light 6 CO2 + 6 H2O → C6H12O6 + O2 In order to allow light to enter the plant body and, in particular, to be used in the process of photosynthesis, the absorption of pigments is necessary. Separation and identification of spinach pigments by Paper Chromatography. Pigments are relatively non polar organic substances that are why I obtained the separation with the help of the petroleum ether and acetone solution. The yellow pigments in leaves are called xanthophyll and the orange pigments are called carotenoids. The orange colored band, made of the pigment called carotenoids are the most soluble in alcohol, so it traveled the farthest. After analyzing the results of the paper chromatography, the next step was the determination of the absorption spectrum for the spinach leaf pigments chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, xanthophyll, and carotenoids. The amount of absorbance was determined with the help of the spectrophotometry, which quantitatively measured the fraction of the light passing through each pigment extract solution, indicated on the absorbance scale. The wavelength was increased every 20 nm, starting with 400 nm, and reaching 740 nm. The results are shown in Table 1 and Table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. With regenerative abilities, stem cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division and when the stem cell divides to create another cell, the new cell has the potential to either stay a stem cell or differentiate into a ... HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical uses of HSCs. The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice, which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions, such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells. Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done, ... While it briefly transforms their values and improves their lives, it ultimately leads to the protagonist s demise. The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin (1834) and The Overcoat by Nikolai Gogol (1842) illustrate this in their respective main characters: Hermann and Akaky. Both Hermann and Akaky are economical men. Hermann is prudent with his inheritance from his father and does not gamble, as he is not in the position to sacrifice the necessary in the hopes of winning the superfluous (Pushkin 1). They are forced to eat food that includes such ingredients like manure, cement, or even cow brains. This is one side of farming, but there is another. This farming has cows and other animals living how they would in nature, across rolling hills and bright green grasses. This is the essence of Local Sustainable farming. As defined in Michael Pollan s award winning commentary about the food we eat, The Omnivore s Dilemma, the Local Sustainable Food Chain, one of four possible food chains, is characterized by not using pesticides, treating animals humanely, and sustainably creating healthier organic food. Out of Michael Pollan s food chains, the Local Sustainable Food Chain is the best for America as it is much less harmful to the environment and lets animals live in their natural states. The Local Sustainable Food Chain creates a healthier environment because the farmers work with the land and animals in more natural ways and help the environment thrive. Different letters make up different words which make up different sentences. It s this difference that allows for multiple stories to be told. The other side of stories is much less understood. They re all the same. This can be seen through the examination of archetypes, most importantly the hero vs the villain. It can be seen in every tale imaginable. • 33. Peace And Violence By Galtung As I tried to conceptualize the idea of violence and what it means, physical force such as: assault, bullying, abuse, rape, murder, war, terrorism, genocide amongst many more came to mind. However, what is considered violence depends on the social context and the type of violence described, because as we have learned in class so far, Violence is Relative. So what really is violence? There is not an easy explanation of the term without taking into consideration that violence can not only be physical but also psychological, emotional, and verbal. I believe violence to be a form of expressed aggression either physical, psychological, emotional, and verbal showcased by an individual. In the paper we will discuss how violence can be viewed as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... depending on intentional violence or not necessarily intentional (Galtung, 1969). In my understanding, if an act of violence such as hurting a person intentionally it could mean that it is unacceptable. However, if an act of violence were not necessarily intentional depending on the social context, it would be acceptable. Direct violence, which serves to physically induced threats such as killing, bullying, sexual assault, and emotional manipulation could serve as unacceptable violence since its intentional. The Child Beater by Ai, and Death Warrant by district judge Issac Parker, are good representations as to how they intentionally use physical violence against a victim to cause harm. In Child Beater , we read about how the abusive mother uses cruel punishments such as starvation and viciously beats the child to tears (Ai, 1971). This would be a representation of direct violence since the mother causes physical threats against the child however, it could also be structural violence since the child is prevented from an equal access to opportunities such as food and living conditions. In our western society, our viewpoint of the violence inflicted would be unacceptable since it the mother is conducting child abuse, something that is seen as illegal. From personal experience, in many hispanic families for example, their form of cultural violence includes using different forms of punishments to discipline their children such as spankings. While forms of punishments such as the ones described in Child Beater are unacceptable, spankings are a form of violence that is acceptable in many homes. In the reading Death Warrant , the author also uses direct violence and structural as he verbally implies on the warrant sign that when the suspect is dead no one will miss him, life will go on ... • 36. Carpetbaggers Carpetbaggers were northerners who headed to the southern states during and immediately after the Civil War, propelled by wanting to work on behalf of liberated slaves, a desire for economic gain, or a mix of both. Carpetbaggers got their name because many of them had large bags made from carpets to hold their belongings. Although many in the South saw carpetbaggers as people who wanted to exploit and profit from the south s misfortunes, Carpetbaggers would play an important role in shaping the south s government during Reconstruction. African Americans in the south who had just been emancipated were restricted their freedom when southern legislatures passed black codes , which forced them into repressive labor situations. The Black Codes were laws designed with the intention to guarantee African American s availability as a cheap labor force after slavery was eliminated during the Civil War, and to keep white supremacy in place. Common examples of Black Codes were: Race was defined by blood; the presence of any amount of black blood made one black, Employment was required of all freedmen; violators faced vagrancy charges, Freedmen could not assemble without the presence of a white person, Freedmen were assumed to be agricultural workers and their duties and hours were tightly regulated, Freedmen were not to be taught to read or write, ... The proposed research question asks whether a combined prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The population of interest for this study is veterans with PTSD. The ideal study would include four groups: one to receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be randomly selected, by a computerized program, based on information gathered about veterans with PTSD by the U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in each of the 23 regions of the Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISN). Once selected, the veterans will be randomly placed into one of the four aforementioned groups, and given the Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory (PTCI), a scale used to measure a person s trauma related to their thoughts and beliefs to determine if they have PTSD or PTSD symptoms. • 40. The Importance Of Freedom In America Freedom meant multiple things for the people who had endured and survived enslavement in America. Freedom meant education, being with family, church organizing, voting, and equal rights as white people. Former slaves informed slave owners that their devotion and loyalty never reflected their true feelings. As slavery ended families were able to reunite. Freedom also meant land. Special field order #15 was issued on January 16, 1865 by General William T. Sherman. A 30 mile tract of land was set aside by the military directive, this land was along the Atlantic coast from Charleston, South Carolina, 245 miles south to Jacksonville, Florida. Sherman reserved this land for black families as white owners just abandoned the land. The Port Royal Experiment was an effort by northern white missionaries, educators, and businessmen in the Sea Islands near Beaufort, South Carolina, to transform former slaves into educated, reliable and industrious wage earners. Congress established the Bureau of Refugees, Freedman, and Abandoned Lands in February 1865 to assist black and white Southerners left destitute by the Civil War. The South Homestead Act was passed by Congress in 1866, this set aside over three million acres of land for former slaves and loyal white Southerners to farm following the Civil War. In 1866 bureau officials tried to force freedmen to sign labor contracts with white landowners. Black men who refused to sign could be arrested. The most important institution among ...
