Sample Management Plan For Medical Equipment
2.5Maintenance Management Plan
Dyro (2004) indicates that periodic medical device management is a fundamental element of
equipment management. Arno, Dowling and Schuerger (2016) report that high reliability and low
maintenance costs are common targets for all maintenance programs. A carefully designed
preventative maintenance can reduce maintenance costs through the prevention of degradation failure
through preemptive intervention. Corrective maintenance is required when a failure occurs and it is
often more expensive than a preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is implemented to
decrease the probability of some particular expected failures and therefore decrease the overall
maintenance cost.
2.5.1 Preventive Maintenance
Medical equipment is usually expensive and require high mechanical precision, especially for the
equipment that produce devices that install in patients body. Fennigkoh and Smith (1989) indicate that
medical equipment needs constant maintenance to make sure that it can perform required high
requirements, which makes preventive maintenance very important in medical industry. Another
benefit of implementing preventive maintenance is that it also decreases expensive corrective
maintenance costs.
2.5.2 Preventive Maintenance Regulations for Medical Equipment
According to Centers for Medicare medicaid Services (CMS) Preventive Maintenance Regulations
(2011) Medical Equipment (e.g., laboratory equipment, IV infusion equipment, biomedical

Comparing War Poems Essays
Comparing War Poems Died of Wounds and Suicide in the Trenches are two poems, which I will be
comparing the similarities and differences, which were written by the same author. Both these poems
were written by a person called Siegfried Sasson, who wrote most of his poems during the World War
One, which outlined how bad the war was to those at home after suffering from being Shell Shocked. I
will be comparing the language it uses, ideas it contains and the way it is structured between both
poems, which Siegfried Sasson uses to demonstrate that war is evil, and should be stopped. The theme
in Died of Wounds is that soldiers become shell shocked and go insane. They also suffer from mental

On the forth line of Died of Wounds the author says He did the business well where business is a
metaphor, for it is the earnest of the wounded solider to draw attention to himself. Also on the last line
of Died of Wounds the author describes dead soldier as a slight wound where he is comparing a dead
solider to a small wound, and therefore it does not matter, and he is also comparing the country to a
solider, which is hardly notices a slight wound. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the
Trenches where Siegfried Sasson describes the trenches as if it is like hell meaning that war was like a
place where young people went and got themselves killed. On the first line of Died of Wounds,
Siegfried Sasson wrote Wet White , which is alliteration, which is a type of sound device. He also does
this on the third line, ninth line and the last line. This makes the poem sound better. There is also some
similarity in Suicide in the Trenches, where the author also uses this device to make the poem catchier
but instead uses different letters to make it sound different and better. There is also another similarity
in both poems where there are no assonances, which is the same as alliteration but it does not occur in

Hampton Roads Interest in Breweris and Craft Beer Essay
The Hampton Roads region is no exception to the recent nationwide interest in local breweries and
craft beers. Although certain state regulations initially prevented craft breweries from existing to their
full capacity in this area, some breweries still began to achieve success. O Connor Brewing Company
made interest in these beers possible in this area because of its immediate success after a long trail of
failed brewing companies ( O Connor Brewing Company NP). Due to former regulations, most
brewing companies closed within months of starting up their businesses. Previously, Virginia law
prevented breweries from selling alcohol at its respective establishments, a key part of upkeep for any
local brewery (Riggan NP). Although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As is common with most localized craft beer companies, the reach of O Connor s market spreads in
multiple areas across the country. People from all parts of the nation buy from the company, therefore
leading to more tourist interest in the Hampton Roads region. Anyone who drinks O Connor beer
learns a little bit about the Hampton Roads area due to the small descriptions put on the bottles.
Developing interest in the area itself adds to the tourist interest received from people who simply
travel with the goal of visiting many local craft beer breweries. The tourism achieved from the
presence of many local breweries is phenomenal (Miller NP). The company s attempt to appeal
towards women is another key part to stretching towards different beer drinking demographics. The
bottles themselves emphasize their interest in multiple audiences. Unlike many plainer looking beer
bottles, O Connor s beer has more elegant and colorful designs. The company intends for the product
to be extremely eye catching. This goes hand in hand with the designs put on the bottles to connect to
local culture. Similarly to how the interest over the past several years [in] American craft beer has
grown exponentially, (Canova 5) female interest in the beer market has also steadily increased. O
Connor s is just one of many breweries attempting to break the gender roles associated with drinking
beer through its packaging and marketing. Creating a product

The Importance Of Working At The Post Office
Working at the Post Office is no walk in the park. In fact, this job requires excess amounts of
strenuous activity as well as the ability to multitask, time manage, and problem solve. While it may
seem emotionally draining for some, there is one man who makes it all look simple, and that man goes
by the name of Eric Olszewski. As 5:30 a.m. strikes the clock, most of America is still snoozing
except for me. I am sorting mail at the Post Office. As the sun still sleeps, I spend my time loathing in
silence while scanning incoming parcels to be sorted to their designated routes. The day seems to be
dull. When I am about finished with scanning, my eyes meet the clock. It is around 7:00 a.m., and the
sun is starting to wake up. Just then, I hear the creaking sound of the double doors swinging open.
Before I see him, I can feel his presence. My eyes gaze to the opening doors, and then I see him. He is
striding in with his long, stringy, sun kissed hair flowing as the wind hits it. He is geared in the postal
blues and ready to seize the day. With eyes still heavy with sandbags, he says in his rugged, southern
accent, good morning, Kristen. How are you? I notice his crooked smile just below his blonde
mustache and matching goatee. It is contagious. I adjust my posture, smile and reply, good morning,
Eric. I m fine, and you? He lets me know that he is doing great as well, and as I continue my work, I
truly feel as if it will be a great day. What most people do not know about Eric is that he is not the type
of guy to say good morning and then exclude himself to the world. In fact, I noticed this feature about
him as I was struggling one day at work. Walking around to each mail carrier s case, I began picking
up some empty tubs. However, I was struggling as the tubs started to escape my grip. Just then, I hear
a muffled chuckle. I look up and see Eric; he had paused his work to focus on me. He then begins to
walk towards me and says playfully, Here. Let me show you an easier way to do that. I then watched
as Eric gracefully carried the tubs to their holders, and I listened as he told me how to hold them in a
way that would make them easier to carry. I thanked him, to which he replied, anytime , with a wink

Respiratory Acidosis Symptoms
What are some of the possible signs and symptoms of respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis,
metabolic acidosis, and metabolic alkalosis? Respiratory acidosis occurs when the rate of oxygen
eliminated from the body fluids via the lungs drops this causes the concentration of carbon dioxide to
increase in the body fluid. This increases the concentration of hydrogen to increase in turn this causes
the decrease of the pH in the body fluids to drop below 7.35. This causes respiratory acidosis.
Respiratory acidosis is usually a symptom of an underlying condition such as asthma, COPD,
pneumonia, obesity, or sleep apnea. Signs and symptoms include (acute) headache, anxiety,
restlessness, confusion, and blurred vision. (Chronic) memory loss, sleep

Mean Girls Movie Essay
Mean Girls: The Adolescence Stage I will be covering the movie Mean Girls and some major things
that the movie has in concepts of the development that occurs in the adolescence stage such as
attachment, relational aggression, peer influence, and emotions. (Mark Waters, 2004) This movie is a
comedy full of memorable quotes, witty characters that some can relate with, and a lot of laughs but
realistic plot line, but what some people do not know is that some of the actions from the Plastics can
ruin their reputation and life choices.Mean Girls is about a girl named Cady that has been home

You ve got the pressure of being liked by many peers, and perceived popularity. If you picture an
image of the popular kids, you quickly realize that they have power but are not all liked so well by
many kids and teachers. Teens with high perceived popularity have good social and leadership skills
and are attractive and always dressed the best, but they also may be aggressive and can do a lot of
damage by bullying, and being mean to other kids. Relational aggression subtle and indirect
aggression that involves gossiping about and ignoring or excluding others. (Page457) Indirect
aggression such as gossiping about and ignoring others, even presumed friends, although boys engage
in more direct aggression than girls, girls tend to engage in more relational aggression, at least in
adolescence (Smith Rose, Schwartz Mette, 2010). In life it is easier to feel good about yourself if you
are popular than if you are a nerd . Once the cliques gain perceived popularity, they often lose
sociometric popularity, and become less well like Mayeux Sandstrom Cillessen, 2008, pg.

The Importance Of Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile delinquency is an issue that remains troublesome since it is in direct correlation with adult
crime. While the age crime curve, which is universal in Western populations remains constant,
persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ,
N.A.). Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in terms
of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquency as an issue since it
should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Girls enter a system
that was created by men for men and lacks of appropriate programs and initiatives for a population
that requires it. The lack of gender responsive programs and consideration for criminal pathways make
this issue important to analyze. In the past, girls have been considered as deviant for a multitude of
different aspects, whether it is related to their sexuality, their mental instability or their refusal to
adhere to their social roles. We now see a trend where girls commit similar crime than boys, while
they remain less violent, they have expanded in the participation in criminal behavior. Research shows
that girls become delinquent for different reasons than boys, but those differences are rarely addressed
in the juvenile justice setting. Offering truly gender responsive programming and educating society
and justice professionals as to which pathways lead to criminality in

Internal And External Conflicts In The Time Of The Doves
Mercè Rodoreda s immersive novel, The Time of the Doves, presents numerous realistic conflicts and
their effects on an ordinary citizen. Natalia, the protagonist, is challenged with several internal and
external conflicts that range from an inability to express herself to a war fueled famine. Rodoreda uses
personal experience, as well as knowledge of the typical female role during the Spanish Civil War to
add a personal outlook on the conflicts she presents. Natalia s internal conflicts are compelling, and
can be applied to a large portion of women, in the past and today. As for the external conflict, Natalia s
sufferings with the effects of war can be applied on a cultural level to most of Spain, during the Civil
war, and universally to any war struck country.
Throughout the novel Natalia is challenged with several internal conflicts, many of which originate
from external conflict with her husband, Quimet. Natalia is a meek, mild, young woman in the
beginning of the novel, It was hard for me to say no if someone asked me to do something (15).
Quimet juxtaposes Natalia s personality in almost every way, he is obsessive, possessive, and
controlling, ...and said if I wanted to be his wife I had to start liking everything he liked (22). Quimet
persuades her to marry him and leave her fiancé, Pere. He often challenges Natalia s confidence and
persuades her to do and agree to things she is uncomfortable with, creating internal conflicts for
Natalia s inability to protest or decline. For instance, Natalia does not want Quimet to build the
dovecote and raise the doves, but does not possess the adequate confidence to voice her opinion.
Natalia is generally unable to convey her feelings of rage and discontent to the other characters, she
often remarks on her difficulty to verbally express herself to the audience.
Many factors of Natalia s life also create external conflict, most prominently the famine caused by the
war, she struggles to keep her children fed and is plagued with guilt, I had two mouths to feed and
nothing to put in them. I can t describe how sad it was (134). Natalia is eventually forced to make
drastic decisions to try to spare her children, including sending her son, Antoni, to a children s

Ancient Greek Architecture And Its Influence On Architecture
Architecture is art in the form of building structures, and can have both practical and symbolic
purposes. It is, however, much more than just building or just art. The architecture of a civilization
speaks of its people and their story, emphasizes their values, and announces their greatness. A
structure whose architect was inspired by other cultures not only tells of its own civilization, history,
and character, but that of the other influencing peoples as well. The story of peoples is told by their
monuments through the ages, captivating and inspiring those who come later, in future generations
and future civilizations. In the long history of human culture and art, perhaps no greater influence on
architecture has taken place than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The fall of the once might soviet union was as a result unwarranted succession of events. There is a
likelihood of some arguing that a certain even led to the dismantling but this would be a fallacious
assertion.
Dismantling of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was one of the three strongest nations in the world. Between 1964 and 1982, the
Soviet Union competed militarily with the world s best. The Soviet Union and its system appeared
impervious to rudimentary change especially when Politburo was headed by Leonid Brezhenev. It was
almost impossible even for the most disaffected nationalities like Baltic people of Estonia, Lithuania,

a declaration nullifying its existence forthwith.

Summary:
The Case is about the decision of the Yale Investments Office whether to continue to allocate the bulk

Modest Tragedy Of Deforestation And Degradation
Deforestation As you are reading this, sixty seconds from now approximately over 100 acres and
roughly about 2,000 trees are being destroyed at an alarming rate worldwide. As a result an estimated
140 species of rainforest plants and animals go extinct every day. That is the equivalent of at least 42
million acres of tropical forests in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are lost each year, an area the size
of the state of Washington (RFA). Now some may say in a geographical perspective the continents
listed above are not in correlation to North America s natural resources, but it is of vital importance to
take swift precautionary methods to help reduce this process before it is too late. Even the most
conservative estimates project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rate of deforestation we globally are participating in is making this possible. Just like any plant or
animal evolution occurs in microorganisms, and the more we create and produce antibiotics to fight
these organisms, they evolve to resist. Now you may be wondering how on Earth does this correlate
with deforestation ? And there is logical answer. Covering only 6 percent of the Earth s surface,
tropical moist forests contain at least half of all species. The abundant botanical resources of tropical
forests have already provided tangible medical advances; yet only 1 percent of the known plant and
animal species have been thoroughly examined for their medicinal potentials (adlife). Think about this
if the Amazon is considered one of the most undiscovered places on earth, and we continue to slash
and burn and deforest at a rapid rate , potentially we can be destroying a cure for cancer, and other
terminal diseases. Approximately 7,000 medical compounds prescribed by Western doctors are
derived from plants (adlife). It is predicted that in 100 years we may have zero trees left, and is
extremely alarming to put into perspective that we may not have medicine 100 years from

Reflection About Math
Math is the language of the universe. It is used in every subject and understand it is absolutely
imperative. As highschool comes to an end and college is about to start, math is one of those subjects
that can be a pain in the butt to remind yourself how to do some topics. This project has helped me
understand the type of math I will be exposed to on the placement test and what type of questions to
expect. I chose to complete the Maryland placement test as I have some interest to attend. It has also
exposed me to the college lifestyle a little and got me insight of application and what courses are
required. I have concluded that these tests were a useful tool to measure my math skills on the colgate
level.
These tests were surprising in some aspects and in others very predictable. For one, I expected them to
be much longer and more thorough. I expected their to be open ended questions and less multiple
choice. I was surprised by the simplicity of some questions, but on contrasty, other questions were
more challenging than what I was anticipating. I was also surprised at the lack of variety in questions.
Much of the questions were the same format just with different number. But for the most part, I was
not too caught off guard by any of the questions, as I had learned them all in my 4 year years at JCHS.
The only things that I must address is reminding myself on some of the older material that I learned in
my freshman and junior years here. The test was easier than I expected, although it was not easy. I
expected the test to be very complicated and to include difficult questions. Instead, it had simpler
questions but were still a challenge. For example, the concept of a problem could be fairly easy, but
the numbers are hard to work with or had fractions in them. On this test, calculators were permitted
and were a huge help to me. This tells myself that I need to get better at mental math to save time on
tests and to not rely on calculators so much. Mental math has always been difficult for me, but
mastering it can be greatly beneficial to my math. The test can be taken online or in person, it is really
up to the person. I personally would prefer an in person test, as I feel writing the problems out with
pencil

Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity
Einstein s Theory of General Relativity originally came to him in 1907 while he was sitting in a chair
in the patent office in Bern. Lost in thought, he began wondering what it would be like to drop a ball
while falling off the side of a building (James Overdunn, Stanford Edu) Granting all this, he realized
that the person who was falling would not be able to detect the effect of gravity on the ball whereas an
observer could. Hence, he figured out the principle of Equivalence, that gravity pulling in one
direction is completely equivalent to the acceleration in the opposite direction. Nevertheless, his work
was only seen 8 years later when he published his theory in 1915. Another key factor in Einstein s
theory of general relativity is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sensitive gyroscopes orientations were being monitored in conjunction to a guide star. As a
result, this mission was deemed a success and backed up both of the two theories they were testing.
Importance Einstein s theories of Relativity were thought to be one of the most important discoveries
in the early 20th century. They led to many different discoveries that would have taken decades more
to discover without it, who knows some might not have even been discovered yet today. Some of the
discoveries that his theories led to are: Edward Hubble s observations that the stars and galaxies move
and that our universe is constantly changing and expanding (1924). Hubble based his calculations on
Einstein s General theory of relativity. What s funny is that Einstein actually rejected Hubble s theory
to support his own theory that the universe was static but had to in the end support and agree with
Hubble s theories since they were based on his own theories!(Burgess,Discovery) Alexander
Friedmann in 1922 used Einstein s equations of relativity to figure out the approximate age of the
universe at over 10 billion years old (we have now figured out it s around 13 billion years old, but he
was close) known as The Big Bang Theory . The theories of relativity also led to the discovery of the
existence of black holes and gravitational waves, which we are still researching today.
(Burgess,Discovery) The theories also led to gravitational lensing and reverse

Politics and the English Language Essay
George Orwell s essay, Politics and the English Language, first published in 1946, talks about some
bad habits , which have driven the English language in the wrong direction, that is, away from
communicating ideas. In his essay he quotes five passages, each from a different author, which
embody the faults he is talking about. He lists dying metaphors, operators, pretentious diction, and
meaningless words as things to look out for in your own writing and the writing of others (593 595).
He talks about political uses of the English language. Our language has become ugly and the ugliness
impedes upon communication. Ugly uses of language have been reinforced and passed down in the
population even among people who should and do know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, writing can turn ugly if they don t care about what words they use and rush through
the writing process. The idea is that ugly writing impedes communication whereas positive writing
allows for clear communication. Positive writing serves the purpose of communicating clearly and
concisely. It allows for the flow of imagery from the writer to the reader. In contrast, ugly writing does
something else. It can be crowded with meaningless phrases and fillers. People need to prevent bad
habits from spreading by consciously guarding against them.
As ugly language is used in society, by written word or mouth, it can spread through the population
like a virus. Ugly writing is only ugly in the sense that communication is hindered to some extent. I m
not trying to say that the ideas behind the writing are negative or bad, although they certainly can be.
The intensity to which communication is hindered varies and can be negative for the reader s
understanding. There are many ways in which writers hinder communication.
In his essay, Orwell gives examples of commonly used language which doesn t help aid
communication. The first are dying metaphors (593). A good metaphor creates a picture in your head.
The graphic novel Watchmen, written by Alan Moore, starts off with a vivid metaphor about the
horrendous amount of crime in a dying city; The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of
blood and when the drains

Cervical Stenosis Case Study Essay
The patient is a fifty six year old male who was admitted on 10/3/16. His reason for admission was his
involvement in a motor vehicle accident where his car was t boned by another vehicle. Upon arrival to

a portable x ray of his chest was ordered, but this did not show any acute findings. Multiple computed
tomography scans were then ordered for his head, cervical spine, abdomen and pelvis, chest and
thoracic spine; but all of these scans resulted in no acute findings. However, a computed tomography
scan of the lumbar spine did show spinal stenosis secondary to disc protrusion, and magnetic
resonance imaging scans were then ordered for the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. The magnetic
resonance scans showed multiple compression fractures from the C3 to C5 vertebrae, with ligament
injuries from C5 to C7, bruising of the spinous process of C6, mass bone bruising and soft tissue

The Waste Land And Recitatif Analysis
History and writing between the Civil War up to the present day has drastically changed. Being in a
Modern American Literature class, class readings are over the changes in writings, the way dialect or
speaking has modernized, and the author s thoughts. Many would think coming into a Modern
American Literature class would be more modernized stories and poems. In our syllabus, The Waste
Land lacks out of showing direct thoughts, being reliable enough to understand and real modern
history. Which, is why I believe The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot should be switched out with Recitatif
by Toni Morrison. I will be comparing and contrasting The Waste Land with Toni Morrison s Recitatif
on setting, writing skills, and the authors themselves.
By comparing both stories, both authors, Morrison and Eliot made sure they explained to us how
emotionally available they were to both situations. The Waste Land and Recitatif were both published
at a time where humans were truly needing the truth of reality. The Waste Land published after World
War 1, in 1915, which was a very unhappy time period for Europeans. The setting was set in London
but different areas, yet each speaker was set in a mental setting which made them realize it was a
waste land. It is one of the hardest stories that we have read this semester and does not include any
historical context, more of an emotional context from different speakers. Thus, the point of the story.
Eliot knows it is difficult to understand, he realizes

Gold Rush Causes And Effects
Research Paper: The history and effect of The Gold Rush Gold rush is one of the significant event in
the history. In this project, I will introduce what was the major effects of gold rush in the California.
And how did that changed the people, economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush
is a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the
most significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands
of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In
January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. By the time, the
fountain of the gold was loaded on newspaper, but it didn t become a big event, most of people just
did not really believe the account of gold. The Gold rush occurred in May 1848. A storekeeper in
Sutter s cheek who is called Sam Brannan showed a bottle filled with gold dust and shouted that he

Bystander Intervention Paper
Bystander intervention describes the act of an individual stepping in to stop a violent activity, in which
someone or something is being victimized. Bystander intervention has been well studied, in a variety
of settings and situations. The first research on this subject was done by Latané and Darley (1968),
who found that bystanders were less likely to intervene during emergencies when they were in a
group, than when they were alone. Much of the modern research looks at bystander intervention in
situations of sexual violence, particularly that which occurs among people on college campuses.
Fischer and Greitemeyer (2013) took an applied approach by examining bystander intervention with
other bystanders present or absent, in situations of varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(2013), Bennet and Banyard (2016) also looked at bystander invention in sexually violent situations,
but focused their research on college campuses. This research focused the relationship between the
bystanders affiliation with victims and perpetrators and the likelihood and safety of an intervention.
Participants included 545 students who were enrolled in a psychology course at a college in the
northeast United States. The group was primarily consisted of white and freshmen and sophomore
students. Just over half were female, 29.5% reported unwelcome sexual events in adolescence, and
4.4% had been raped. Participants read stories about sexual violence in which they were assigned to
being either friends or strangers with the perpetrator, and friends or strangers with the victim. After
reading the stories, they answered surveys that asked if the scenario depicted a problem and if they felt
comfortable intervening. The results found that when participants were friends with the perpetrator
they labeled the situation as less problematic, and when they were friends with the victim they labeled
it as more problematic. Participants who knew either the victim or perpetrator found it safer to
intervene than participants who knew neither, and those who knew both individuals found it safest.
This research showed that bystander relationships with those involved in the situation reflect
identification of a problem and perceived bystander

Should the Three Gorges Dam Been Built?
Dear President Hu Jintao,
I am writing to you today to explain what the Three Gorges Dam is, why it is needed, the social,
environmental and economic advantages and disadvantages and whether should it have been built?
Firstly the Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Yangtze River by the town of
Sandouping, located in Yiling District, Yichang, Hubei province, China. The Three Gorges Dam is the
world s largest power station in terms of installed capacity it can create up to 22,500 MW enough to

. Over 10 million Chinese have been relocated by dam related projects throughout China s history,
46% of them living in extreme poverty. Of the 1.2 million relocated so far by the Three Gorges Dam,
500,000 are peasant farmers, many of whom earn just 1/3 of the World Bank poverty level of $1 per
day. The resetllers were not offered substantial compensation to cover the cost of new housing. Most
were moved into to urban centres near Chongqing, or into the new cities built specifically for
relocation, on steep unstable slopes that have now been determined unfit for development or
farming**************
Even though the Three Gorges Dam produces electricity for nearly the whole of china s population I
still do not believe that it should have been built. Despite the fact that the dam helped reduce pollution
of the air because 1 4 coal power stations were being built and the dam help reduce that the impacts on
the environment, people, and just the cost of the dam it would have probably been better to keep
building coal power stations. I believe this because nearly 1.2

Cultural Competence In Social Work
Cultural competence is a major component in social work as it enables us to communicate effectively
with people of different background and cultures. (Suppes Wells, p. 79.) By definition, culture is a
universal phenomenon as it refers to family values, education, work, religion, success, food, and social
class. (NASW, p. 14.) In this paper, I will compare and contrast my own cultural background with that
of one of my best friends, Dawn Denny who happens to be a Guyanese.
Most Haitians place a great emphasis on family values regardless of their social status. While both
parents play a vital role in the family, the male is the dominant one, the head of the house, despite the
fact that the mother works, rears, cares for the children and maintains the house. It s tremendously
hard to get a job in Haiti as the labor industry is extremely bias, you not only need to know someone
from the inside, but it is also based on age and color of your skin. The younger, the lighter the skin
pigment, and the more likely it is to get hired. As a result of that, women often struggle with sexual
harassment in the work place. The probability of getting a job without a college degree is very slim to
none so therefore, a college education is crucial. A child primary responsibility is to focus in school
and get good grades until graduated college, but because college tuition is so expensive, only the
upper class can afford to send their kids to school. The middle and the lower

from an analytical presepective these subjective questions which inspire answers and explanations to

It is a critics moral obligation to remain rational and objective. Above all to consider all possible
implications from every page, every paragraph, every line. Conrad s Heart of Darkness stimulates the
readers by diverging them from a naïve frame of thinking to a brute reality. Imagery, symbolism,
character analysis and stylystic writing serve to highlight his journey into the dark and mysterious
African jungle and gives us an introspective view of the darkness of the human soul. Reality, strikes in
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness , through the three dimentional depth of its characters. It offers
directness to anyone interested in facing darkness around and perhaps darkness within them. The
concept of an individual comparing oneself to another individual becomes the root of all evil. In the
book Darkness is intended to represent the mysterious, the undesirable, the chaos, and the unknown.
All implications are to be looked at closely. The initial association with darkness is the obvious lack of
light. As we see it, or dont see it; Darkness is black. Darkness is the unkown. In the context of the
book, darkness is the journey to the African Jungle. Africa, in Conrad s time was yet to be explored. It
was liberally referred to as the dark continent. Characterized by its dark jungles, damp and foggy
weather and of course its natives. As the plot suggests, Conrads view of Africa is unclear. Marlow

Australian Immigration Advantages
In the last few decades, the number of immigrants has increased in Australia. The department of

showed that almost 23.9% of Australian residents were born aboard according to Department of

0.3% of the world s population lived in Australia (UNDESA, 2013). Because of the huge number of

Analysis Of The Book Thief By Meminginger By Liesel Meminger
In the prologue, the narrator Death introduces himself and gives insight into his personality and job,
which is collecting souls. He describes the 3 different situations where he sees the book thief aka
Liesel Meminger. The first time was on a train, second during a plane crash and third during a
bombing. One thing that I am confused about is what kind of creature Death is. He refers to humans as
the humans and he collects souls for a living. Death associates colors with the atmosphere of every
situation and says People observe the colors of a day only at its beginnings and ends, but to me it s
quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing
moment. on pg 5. He treats colors as insight into the mood of the situation and even compares humans
to colors because we change so often. The three significant colors he saw were red, black and white,
which were also the colors of the nazi flag. I am feeling sympathetic for the different scenarios
because many people were suffering and got hurt in this time like Liesel s brother, who passed away.
In this chapter, Liesel went to her new foster parents, the Hubermanns home. She is hesitant but she
eventually goes in and meets Rosa and Hans. She gets to know Hans, who loves to smoke and roll
cigarettes and Rosa, who cleaned for other families and abused Liesel even though she loved her.
Death also describes Liesel s appearance more in depth. I find it confusing and ironic that

Deborah Penimpede What Is A Comuter Student Summary
Coherence and emphasis in an essay are almost as important as the content is. Without coherence and
emphasis, the reader will simply lose interest in the essay or they will be unable to follow what the
author is trying to share. However, the author must be considerate about when and how coherence and
emphasis are created. In the essay, What is a Commuter Student? by Deborah Pennimpede, the author
advantageously employs strategies of coherence and emphasis throughout, with her transitional words
and phrases, the organization of the essay, and her choice of sentence types. The coherence in the
essay What is a Commuter Student? is like peanut butter between two pieces of bread it holds the
essay together, while at the same time makes it easy to digest. The author achieves coherence through
her transitional phrases, her connection between the first and last sentences of the paragraphs, and her
connection between her introduction and concluding paragraphs. First, Deborah Pennimpede creates
coherence through her transitional phrases in her paragraphs. One impressive choice of a transition
phrase that the author employs is, And even if commuters do find the time to be home for supper, they
often find it far from quiet when they try to study. This is a superb example because it is tying the
previous part of the paragraph into the next from not being home because of a job to being home, but
not having peace and quiet to study. Without this simple sentence, the paragraph

Marketing to Children

Response Paper
Marketing Children
Child obesity is a growing problem in today s society. On average 28% of girls age 6 11 are
overweight. Pediatricians are now seeing more and more children with high levels of cholesterol, high
blood pressure, and adult on set diabetes. In 1997 American children obtained 50% of their calories
from added fat and sugar and only 1% of children s diets resembled the recommended proportions of
the Food Pyramid.
The amount of money that is spent marketing to children is outrageous. Companies purposefully

and content. Key elements for successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marketers understand that no child is too young to be targeted by television; many of these programs
are linked directly to commercial products. For example, Burger King then McDonald s sponsored the
public television show Teletubbies (show for toddlers). McDonald s distributed toys of the four
characters in their happy meals. It is estimated that advertising for children has now reached over $1
billion. The most common advertised foods seen are not surprisingly low in nutritional value; products
such as, presweetened breakfast cereals, candy, fast food, sodas, cookies, and chips. Its safes to say the
money isn t being spent on advertising of fruits, vegetables, bread, or fish.
Another largely upsetting report found that food commercials stimulate antisocial behavior in
children. Commercials aimed to children are overly dependent on socially negative material, violence,
conflict, and/or trickery. Food companies purposefully entice children by placing logos on toys,
games, clothing, and school supplies. They even go as far as to sponsor clubs, produce magazines, buy
time in movies, obtain celebrity endorsers, and add their logo to baby bottles. For example, McDonald
s offers cups, toys, placemats, movie coupons, special toys, and logo labeled items for all occasions.
Some companies now sell counting books to young children that require the purchase and use of the
brand name. Regrettably, they teach children to count

Violence in Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Violence is one of the most exaggerated forms of physical aggression and it can exist for a series of
reasons. It involves a person or a group of persons acting against another person or groups of persons
with the purpose to achieve one or several diverse goals. In many cases violence results from
individuals perceiving the acts of other people as hostile and thus wanting to act against these people
before it is too late. Depending on the situation, more or less individuals might get involved in an act
of violence, especially when they consider that it would be essential for them to do so.
William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar provides audiences with an account involving the Roman
dictator Julius Caesar, the 44 B.C. conspiracy that resulted in his violent assassination, and the
continued violence that dominated Rome consequent to his death. In spite of the fact that the play s
title is Julius Caesar, Caesar s character only appears in three scenes. The tragedy s central character is
Marcus Brutus and most of the storyline relates to him and to his failure to understand matters from a
general perspective when he has the chance to do so. The play actually demonstrates how violence can
emerge from individuals misinterpreting behavior seen in others and the idea of violence dominates
most of the play, shaping the way that characters interact and think.
From the very first lines of the play audiences are presented with the character of Murellus. This
character s

If one were to look at similarities, it would be more reasonable to compare Grenada and Toronto,
however since Toronto does not represent Canada, there are mostly differences. One of the differences
that differentiate each country so largely, are the differences in education. In terms of quality, quantity,
and popularity, Canada outclasses Grenada by a landslide. St. George is one of the main universities
provided in Grenada and, 6,022 students attended St. George s University in 2016 (University, S.

The Impact Of Immigration On The New Country
III. Literature Review
Amongst current events, immigration is one of the hotly debated topics of today. It s will be a
determining factor in the current U.S. presidential race. Hispanic/Latino immigrants are one of the
fastest growing demographics in our populations and consideration of political value due to their
impact on and to the economy. Their ethnicity makes them the subject of random criticism and plays a
role in how well they assimilate into the US. How they are perceived and treated while trying to build
a new life with dreams, like many Americans, of a better life, will also play a crucial role in how they
adapt to their new surroundings.

standing armies. This also led to the establishment of taxation to support food, equipment, and
payment to the soldiers of ever increasing militaries. It is interesting to look into how militaristic
cultures have come up and many cases dominated certain areas. It s fascinating to see why some
empires military have been so successful and won many of battles. In this essay I will talk about three
different empires and how they became successful over time. These three militaristic cultures are all
respected in their own rights. First is the Assyrian Empire. Its military might started around 900b.c.e
on the Tigris river were they would later start a conquest which they controlled most of the Middle
East. Also I will look into Sparta, which the Spartans are considered some of the fiercest warriors to
have lived. Their dominance reached its height around 600b.c.e. In this essay I will also talk about the

Arno, Dowling and Schuerger (2016) report that high reliability and low maintenance costs are common targets for all maintenance programs. A carefully designed preventative maintenance can reduce maintenance costs through the prevention of degradation failure through preemptive intervention. Corrective maintenance is required when a failure occurs and it is often more expensive than a preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is implemented to decrease the probability of some particular expected failures and therefore decrease the overall maintenance cost. 2.5.1 Preventive Maintenance Medical equipment is usually expensive and require high mechanical precision, especially for the equipment that produce devices that install in patients body. Comparing War Poems Essays Comparing War Poems Died of Wounds and Suicide in the Trenches are two poems, which I will be comparing the similarities and differences, which were written by the same author. Both these poems were written by a person called Siegfried Sasson, who wrote most of his poems during the World War One, which outlined how bad the war was to those at home after suffering from being Shell Shocked. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches where Siegfried Sasson describes the trenches as if it is like hell meaning that war was like a place where young people went and got themselves killed. On the first line of Died of Wounds, Siegfried Sasson wrote Wet White , which is alliteration, which is a type of sound device. He also does this on the third line, ninth line and the last line. This makes the poem sound better. There is also some similarity in Suicide in the Trenches, where the author also uses this device to make the poem catchier but instead uses different letters to make it sound different and better. Although certain state regulations initially prevented craft breweries from existing to their full capacity in this area, some breweries still began to achieve success. O Connor Brewing Company made interest in these beers possible in this area because of its immediate success after a long trail of failed brewing companies ( O Connor Brewing Company NP). Due to former regulations, most brewing companies closed within months of starting up their businesses. Previously, Virginia law prevented breweries from selling alcohol at its respective establishments, a key part of upkeep for any local brewery (Riggan NP). Although the ... People from all parts of the nation buy from the company, therefore leading to more tourist interest in the Hampton Roads region. Developing interest in the area itself adds to the tourist interest received from people who simply travel with the goal of visiting many local craft beer breweries. The tourism achieved from the presence of many local breweries is phenomenal (Miller NP). The company s attempt to appeal towards women is another key part to stretching towards different beer drinking demographics. The bottles themselves emphasize their interest in multiple audiences. Unlike many plainer looking beer bottles, O Connor s beer has more elegant and colorful designs. The company intends for the product to be extremely eye catching. This goes hand in hand with the designs put on the bottles to connect to local culture. Similarly to how the interest over the past several years [in] American craft beer has grown exponentially, (Canova 5) female interest in the beer market has also steadily increased. In fact, this job requires excess amounts of strenuous activity as well as the ability to multitask, time manage, and problem solve. While it may seem emotionally draining for some, there is one man who makes it all look simple, and that man goes by the name of Eric Olszewski. As 5:30 a.m. strikes the clock, most of America is still snoozing except for me. I am sorting mail at the Post Office. As the sun still sleeps, I spend my time loathing in silence while scanning incoming parcels to be sorted to their designated routes. The day seems to be dull. When I am about finished with scanning, my eyes meet the clock. It is around 7:00 a.m., and the sun is starting to wake up. Just then, I hear the creaking sound of the double doors swinging open. Before I see him, I can feel his presence. My eyes gaze to the opening doors, and then I see him. He is striding in with his long, stringy, sun kissed hair flowing as the wind hits it. He is geared in the postal blues and ready to seize the day. With eyes still heavy with sandbags, he says in his rugged, southern accent, good morning, Kristen. How are you? I notice his crooked smile just below his blonde mustache and matching goatee. It is contagious. I adjust my posture, smile and reply, good morning, Eric. I m fine, and you? He lets me know that he is doing great as well, and as I continue my work, I truly feel as if it will be a great day. What most people do not know about Eric is that he is not the type of guy to say good morning and then exclude himself to the world. In fact, I noticed this feature about him as I was struggling one day at work. Walking around to each mail carrier s case, I began picking up some empty tubs. However, I was struggling as the tubs started to escape my grip. Just then, I hear a muffled chuckle. I look up and see Eric; he had paused his work to focus on me. He then begins to walk towards me and says playfully, Here. Let me show you an easier way to do that. I then watched as Eric gracefully carried the tubs to their holders, and I listened as he told me how to hold them in a way that would make them easier to carry. • 8. The Importance Of Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile delinquency is an issue that remains troublesome since it is in direct correlation with adult crime. While the age crime curve, which is universal in Western populations remains constant, persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ, N.A.). Since girls tend to start offending at a younger age, they should receive more attention in terms of prevention but they do not (NIJ, N.A.). Selecting female juvenile delinquency as an issue since it should receive more attention than it has been granted in the past seems adequate. Girls enter a system that was created by men for men and lacks of appropriate programs and initiatives for a population that requires it. The lack of gender responsive programs and consideration for criminal pathways make this issue important to analyze. In the past, girls have been considered as deviant for a multitude of different aspects, whether it is related to their sexuality, their mental instability or their refusal to adhere to their social roles. We now see a trend where girls commit similar crime than boys, while they remain less violent, they have expanded in the participation in criminal behavior. Research shows that girls become delinquent for different reasons than boys, but those differences are rarely addressed in the juvenile justice setting. • 9. Internal And External Conflicts In The Time Of The Doves Mercè Rodoreda s immersive novel, The Time of the Doves, presents numerous realistic conflicts and their effects on an ordinary citizen. Natalia, the protagonist, is challenged with several internal and external conflicts that range from an inability to express herself to a war fueled famine. Rodoreda uses personal experience, as well as knowledge of the typical female role during the Spanish Civil War to add a personal outlook on the conflicts she presents. Natalia s internal conflicts are compelling, and can be applied to a large portion of women, in the past and today. As for the external conflict, Natalia s sufferings with the effects of war can be applied on a cultural level to most of Spain, during the Civil war, and universally to any war struck country. Throughout the novel Natalia is challenged with several internal conflicts, many of which originate from external conflict with her husband, Quimet. Natalia is a meek, mild, young woman in the beginning of the novel, It was hard for me to say no if someone asked me to do something (15). Quimet juxtaposes Natalia s personality in almost every way, he is obsessive, possessive, and controlling, ...and said if I wanted to be his wife I had to start liking everything he liked (22). Quimet persuades her to marry him and leave her fiancé, Pere. He often challenges Natalia s confidence and persuades her to do and agree to things she is uncomfortable with, creating internal conflicts for Natalia s inability to protest or decline. For instance, Natalia does not want Quimet to build the dovecote and raise the doves, but does not possess the adequate confidence to voice her opinion. Natalia is generally unable to convey her feelings of rage and discontent to the other characters, she often remarks on her difficulty to verbally express herself to the audience. Many factors of Natalia s life also create external conflict, most prominently the famine caused by the war, she struggles to keep her children fed and is plagued with guilt, I had two mouths to feed and nothing to put in them. As highschool comes to an end and college is about to start, math is one of those subjects that can be a pain in the butt to remind yourself how to do some topics. This project has helped me understand the type of math I will be exposed to on the placement test and what type of questions to expect. I chose to complete the Maryland placement test as I have some interest to attend. It has also exposed me to the college lifestyle a little and got me insight of application and what courses are required. I have concluded that these tests were a useful tool to measure my math skills on the colgate level. These tests were surprising in some aspects and in others very predictable. For one, I expected them to be much longer and more thorough. I expected their to be open ended questions and less multiple choice. I was surprised by the simplicity of some questions, but on contrasty, other questions were more challenging than what I was anticipating. I was also surprised at the lack of variety in questions. Much of the questions were the same format just with different number. But for the most part, I was not too caught off guard by any of the questions, as I had learned them all in my 4 year years at JCHS. The only things that I must address is reminding myself on some of the older material that I learned in my freshman and junior years here. The test was easier than I expected, although it was not easy. I expected the test to be very complicated and to include difficult questions. Instead, it had simpler questions but were still a challenge. For example, the concept of a problem could be fairly easy, but the numbers are hard to work with or had fractions in them. On this test, calculators were permitted and were a huge help to me. This tells myself that I need to get better at mental math to save time on tests and to not rely on calculators so much. Lost in thought, he began wondering what it would be like to drop a ball while falling off the side of a building (James Overdunn, Stanford Edu) Granting all this, he realized that the person who was falling would not be able to detect the effect of gravity on the ball whereas an observer could. Hence, he figured out the principle of Equivalence, that gravity pulling in one direction is completely equivalent to the acceleration in the opposite direction. The idea is that ugly writing impedes communication whereas positive writing allows for clear communication. Positive writing serves the purpose of communicating clearly and concisely. It allows for the flow of imagery from the writer to the reader. In contrast, ugly writing does something else. It can be crowded with meaningless phrases and fillers. People need to prevent bad habits from spreading by consciously guarding against them. As ugly language is used in society, by written word or mouth, it can spread through the population like a virus. Ugly writing is only ugly in the sense that communication is hindered to some extent. The Gold Rush is a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the most significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. • 27. Cultural Competence In Social Work Cultural competence is a major component in social work as it enables us to communicate effectively with people of different background and cultures. (Suppes Wells, p. 79.) By definition, culture is a universal phenomenon as it refers to family values, education, work, religion, success, food, and social class. (NASW, p. 14.) In this paper, I will compare and contrast my own cultural background with that of one of my best friends, Dawn Denny who happens to be a Guyanese. Most Haitians place a great emphasis on family values regardless of their social status. While both parents play a vital role in the family, the male is the dominant one, the head of the house, despite the fact that the mother works, rears, cares for the children and maintains the house. It s tremendously hard to get a job in Haiti as the labor industry is extremely bias, you not only need to know someone from the inside, but it is also based on age and color of your skin. The younger, the lighter the skin pigment, and the more likely it is to get hired. As a result of that, women often struggle with sexual harassment in the work place. The probability of getting a job without a college degree is very slim to none so therefore, a college education is crucial. Without coherence and emphasis, the reader will simply lose interest in the essay or they will be unable to follow what the author is trying to share. However, the author must be considerate about when and how coherence and emphasis are created. In the essay, What is a Commuter Student? by Deborah Pennimpede, the author advantageously employs strategies of coherence and emphasis throughout, with her transitional words and phrases, the organization of the essay, and her choice of sentence types. The coherence in the essay What is a Commuter Student? is like peanut butter between two pieces of bread it holds the essay together, while at the same time makes it easy to digest. It involves a person or a group of persons acting against another person or groups of persons with the purpose to achieve one or several diverse goals. In many cases violence results from individuals perceiving the acts of other people as hostile and thus wanting to act against these people before it is too late. Depending on the situation, more or less individuals might get involved in an act of violence, especially when they consider that it would be essential for them to do so. William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar provides audiences with an account involving the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, the 44 B.C. conspiracy that resulted in his violent assassination, and the continued violence that dominated Rome consequent to his death. In spite of the fact that the play s title is Julius Caesar, Caesar s character only appears in three scenes. The tragedy s central character is Marcus Brutus and most of the storyline relates to him and to his failure to understand matters from a general perspective when he has the chance to do so.
