The Importance Of English Education
Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the latest
Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an average in
reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since 2000. U.S. scores
are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a surprise that Shanghai
outscored every other country, in all areas tested.
As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We have to
educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a challenge to
get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The United States is
a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors are. My message to
you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of the solution to our
language gap.
A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to
English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing second
language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in language,
throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, it is
without a doubt of utmost importance for the citizens of the United States to become fluent in the
world languages. As Americans, we have

Bangalore, India bhargavrammv@yahoo.co.in Abstract Digital cameras have become extremely
common as the prices have reduced. One of the drivers behind the falling prices has been the
introduction of CMOS image sensors. Integrating a CCD sensor is very difficult with existing CMOS
technology while a CMOS sensor. On the other hand CMOS sensors can be very conveniently
integrated with the silicon substrate. The main objective of this essay is to provide information about
active pixel sensors.
Introduction
The market for image sensors are showing an enormous increase in sales and developments of digital
cameras and mobile phone cameras. Imaging sensors are mainly of two types: complementary metal
oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors and charge couple device (CCD) sensors. Active pixel
sensors (APS) are the emerging sensors for the replacement of existing and widely used charged
couple device (CCD) sensors. There is a constant drive in researchers to develop APS sensors which
have more sensitivity have lower marginal noise faster operation and can capture greater detail. The
reason for using an active pixel sensor and not a passive pixel sensor is that passive pixel sensors are
very noisy as there are no

Commodity In The Music Industry
Commodity is a word that is becoming increasingly associated with the music industry, as women are
pressured to put out a sexual image. Commodification in the music industry and society has been
present for many years. However this ubiquitous injustice has only been highlighted more recently,
due to more people speaking out about how wrong it is. I have chosen to write about this topic as I
believe is it relevant to today s society of gender equality. My topic explores all the ideas surrounding
my hypothesis of To what extent has the Female body been commodified in the music industry, from
the 1970 s to present day? Through the use of a questionnaire, my research and history timeline, I aim

Clark (2000) Women, Gender, and Religion, talks about how the Ancient Greeks believe men and
women were two different species. Men are the superior and women are the inferior. Clark says {
Greek medical writers differ in their ideas about male and female bodies. The Hippocratic school
presented men and women as separate species (what we might call a two sex model), whereas
Aristotle considered women to be, Imperfect or defective men in what has been termed a one sex
model. Women lacked the firm control of bodily boundaries that men had. Women changed shape
during pregnancy, and they leaked: blood, tears, and emotion. Since woman does not bound herself,
she must be bounded. This is achieved by organization of her space, prescription of her gestures,
ordering of her rituals, imposition of headgear, attendants, and other trappings. } This describes
women as a completely different and weak species, which have no control over who they are. They
are fragmented beings. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed that the way to bound the female
species was by trapping

Ventria Case Summary
Ventria, a Biopharmaceutical Company, has developed an innovative process to produce
pharmaceutical proteins in the seeds of genetically modified rice designed to lessen the severity of
childhood diarrhea .The company selected two proteins lactiva and Lysomin and categorize them as
effective compounds for gastrointestinal illness.
Ventria believed that the plant made medicines promise affordable human health products for the
global community and wanted to revolutionize the biopharmaceutical industry by putting production

Vaginal yeast infections are very common with women. The symptoms include: soreness and redness
in the vaginal area, white, clumpy vaginal discharge that has a similar look to cottage cheese, painful
intercourse and extreme itching in the vaginal area. Yeast infection is possible in men but with mostly
uncircumcised men. The symptoms of men include itching or burning on the tip of the penis and red
rash on penis. Sexual partner can be infected by yeast infection if untreated. Fortunately, there are
many over the counter treatments for yeast infections available. Creams are available as a treatment
and also a physician may recommend a single, 150 milligram dose of Diflucan (fluconazole). It is very
important to see a physician rather than self diagnosing. If the infection returns it is possible that
antifungal medicine is needed to be taken everyday for 10 to 14 days and then once a week for 6
months. If a person frequently get yeast infection a physician would further look into this matter to see
what exactly is causing the reoccurrence. A physician may suggest that you take a probiotic. Probiotic

The Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of E-Commerce In...
The traditional method of doing business has always been face to face trading. It is a medium for both
customers and businesses to negotiate and purchase and sell goods and services. However, with the
progression of the technology age, businesses and customers alike are finding convenience and
benefits through the use of e commerce. Electronic commerce (e commerce) involves online
transactions and the trading of goods and services through the Internet, without time and geographical
barriers (Network Solutions, 2014). This could include retail sites, large online music stores such as
iTunes or business to business (B2B) transactions between companies. This is a new emerging

Is Weber s Idea Of Economic Traditionalism
Is weber s idea of economic traditionalism analysis relevant to the study of religion?
Introduction
The core of research on religion at present is of no doubt touching Max Weber s ideas on economic
traditionalism. Weber in Solimano (2012: 42) talked about the importance of religion, especially the
Protestant ethic in economic life. By venturing into the field of sociology of religion, Weber further
succeeded in arousing many scholars interest in the study of different religions in the contemporary
world. Agbikimi (2014: 30) notes that Weber s theory of religion has to do with the interaction
between society and religion . This essay, discusses interia Webber s prominent writings on religion
which are in fact related to economic traditionalism and the study of religion. The Protestant Ethic and
the Spirit of Capitalism has been widely discussed in this essay. Berger (2010: 3) argued that it
indicates the continued relevance of Weber s analysis regarding the correlation of the religion and
economic development.
The essay concludes that, Weber s economic traditionalism analysis is to a greater extent relevant in
the study of religion today because of the sense it gives for religious significance which is linked to
economic activities and the overall image of the world. Sung Ho (2012: 1) supports this conclusion by
stating that Weber s wide ranging contributions gave critical impetus to the birth of new academic
disciplines such as sociology and public administration as

A Critical Review Of Deborah Ryan s Argument
However, it is essential to point out that Deborah Ryan argued that to see pageants as anti modern is
an oversimplification. For example, Ryan deemed, by drawing on the argument presented by Bill
Schwarz, that the inventiveness of tradition may have required a popular projection of modernity and
of the future to sustain the idea of the past. This suggests that although Parkerian pageants can be
argued to be historical in the sense that it focuses on historical accuracy, Ryan s argument does not
undermine the importance of history. This is particularly because she suggests that pageants still
focused on the historic past in order to understand the present. Therefore, in Ryan s words pageants
can be seen as part of the modern mass culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This demonstrates that history was consumed in historical pageantry, to a certain extent. For instance,
Frank Lascelles explored the process of remembering in his 1907 Oxford historical pageant, which
was staged on the banks of the River Cherwell and comprised 15 scenes covering 1,000 years of
history of Oxford from St Frideswide. Lascelles brought a distinctive use of visual spectacle in his
pageant as many of the scenes consisted of spectacular tableaux with no words. This is particularly
because Lascelles believed that pageants should be concerned with the dramatic movement of masses
of people in processions and dance, often in blocks of colour, rather than with spoken dialogue which
is often tedious in the open air. While this was different from Parker s representation of pageants of
portraying history based upon how things really were and as they really happened , Ryan argued this
technique was particularly effective for conveying the act of remembering as a dialogue between the
past and the present . Therefore, it can be argued that history was just one more technology of
memory, one of a set of techniques developed in order that societies might remember. Although, this
suggests that as Lascelles pageants visualised the past via allegory in order to remember, one can
argue that it placed emphasis

Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2 and

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the retailers
due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores
where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be
considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range,
they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation
from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end
department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they
were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price
quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more
expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for
the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher
than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They
promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to
understand the needs of their customers.
Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target

Athens Acropolis Research Paper
Acropolis comes from the Greek Akro and Polis. Akro is translated as high or extreme and polis
means city, so acropolis can be translated as High City and is sometimes referred to as City in the Air
or City on Edge. Acropolis is used to describe any complex built on a tall hill. The Mayan Civilization
as well as the Edinburgh in Scotland are both acropolis . In particular, the Athens Acropolis is a
magnificent citadel. The construction began in 447 BCE. The construction was overseen by the
general Pericles of Athens. The planning alone was an immense procedure. Hundreds of artisans,
metal workers, craftspeople, painters, woodcarvers, and literally thousands of unskilled laborers
worked on the Acropolis. The end goal was to produce a lasting monument in order to honor the
goddess Athena and to declare how glorious the city was. It was especially important to them because

Islam Factors And Its Impact On The Arab Empire
1. The Arab Empire grew to be very large, and trade influenced a lot of its expansion. The Arab
Empire created many trade routes themselves while there was political unrest in Mesopotamia. The
Arabs began using camel caravans that were especially useful in the desert. The Arab Empire did a lot
of trading, which resulted in culture being brought along with the goods. The Arabs traded with China,
Egypt Western India, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Africa. The many goods coming in from all over the
world also brought people, beliefs and culture. All which influenced the Arab Empire greatly. A
trading center called a bazaar made it possible for individuals to sell there own crafts and goods. The
bazaar brought together people of lower classes as well that could trade with each other. Trading
influenced the culture of the Arab Empire while also helping expand it. 2. Once Islam became more
popular it spread through the African continent. During that time Muslims were one of the most
advanced people. Islam geometric designs were used in African architecture. The Arabic vocabulary
was used along with native languages. Advanced Muslim literature and arts was adapted by African
societies and helped them develop. Islam brought more trade to Africa which influenced the culture

Essay on The Effects of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a long term (chronic) skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in
thick, white silvery, or red patches of skin. (WebMD, 2012) To uneducated individuals, they may look
at a person with Psoriasis and think to stay away from them as it might be contagious. This disorder is
not contagious, but it does affect a person with Psoriasis to go through social exclusion and

The Pedestrian By Leonard Mead
The Light in the Dark In any given situation, individuals experience conflicts when pursuing a
personal desire as particular desires do not conform to the rules that societies standardize for
individuals. Individuals quickly adapt to the modernization of the advancement of humanity and
technology. Nevertheless, there may be a controversy deciding between obeying society s regulations
of consistently keeping up with the innovative contemporary behaviour or sticking with subjective or
independent aspirations. In the short story The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury, Leonard Mead s
complication between pursuing his personal desire and choosing to conform creates an issue with the
development as an individual. Symbols within the story that further highlighted the distinct difference
between personal desires and deciding to conform include Mr. Mead s shoes, television, and the
houses. Moreover, each symbol that was stated demonstrates a diverse idiosyncratic characteristic
about the protagonist as does the psychological components of Mr. Mead such as word choice, speech,
behaviour and mental processes. However, throughout the story, the protagonist, Mr. Leonard Mead is
exemplified through a third person limitedpoint of view as it gradually illuminates the understanding
that society s need for conformation and an individual s needs may produce a consequential
disagreement of discrepancy. Ray Bradbury s short story suggest that conflicts between pursuing a
personal desire and

Therapeutic Intervention From an Occupational Therapist in an Oncology Service
The therapeutic intervention a client should expect from an occupational therapist in an oncology

Coffee Supply Chain
Coffee The Supply Chain
INTRODUCTION
Today, a jar of instant coffee can be found in 93 per cent of British homes and increasingly consumers
are trying out different types of coffee, such as cappuccino, espresso, mocha and latte. The expanding
consumer demand for product choice, quality and value has led to an increase in the coffees being
made available to a discerning public. Value is the way in which the consumer views an organisation s
product in comparison with competitive offerings. So how does coffee get from growing on a tree
perhaps 1,000m up a mountainside in Africa, Asia, Central or South America, to a cup of Nescafé in
your home, and in millions of homes throughout the world? This case study explains why Nestlé

Coffee is packed into sacks, usually of 60 kg. 4. Bulking Roasters, like Nestlé, will need to buy large
quantities of coffee of a particular grade, so exporters in the country of origin will bulk together
numerous small batches of coffee to make up the necessary amount of the required grade. 5. Blending
At the roasters, experts with fine palates and much experience decide which blend of coffees from
various origins to use to make the coffee products to meet the taste of their consumers.
Processing
Coffee from the tree goes through a series of processes to end up with the saleable product the green
coffee bean. 1. Picking Coffee is picked by hand. Coffee cherries are bright red when they are ripe, but
unfortunately the cherries do not all ripen at the same time. Picking just the red cherries at harvest
time produces better quality coffee, but it is more labour intensive as each tree must be visited several
times during the harvest

Summary Of Secretary Chant By Marge The Church Janitor...
In Secretary Chant by Marge Piercy and Jorge the Church Janitor Finally Quits by MartĂn Espada, the
speakers feel discontent with their jobs. In Secretary Chant the voice of a monotonous secretary
describes how she has become more like a machine than a person, reduced to merely a set of objects
and basic tasks. The speaker experiences a similar lack of appreciation in Jorge the Church Janitor
Finally Quits. Finding that people only pay him attention when they need something, he believes
others overlook him so much that no one would notice if he left. In both of the poems, the speakers
feel dehumanized by their jobs where they remain unappreciated for the robotic tasks they must
perform. The speakers share a sense of dehumanization as a result of the menial nature of their work.
As a secretary, the speaker in Secretary Chant must complete a variety of simple tasks for others.
Consequently, the speaker feels robotic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Secretary Chant, the speaker loses her sense of self worth, recollecting, I wonce / was / a woman
(23 25). She figuratively loses her womanhood as a result of her objectification in her job. By
representing only the set of tasks she performs, the speaker s job reduces her to an office appliance
like a printer. While others use her, they do not value her personality. Likewise, the speaker in Jorge
the Church Janitor Finally Quits lacks a sense of recognition. For instance, he sardonically quips that
after he quits, Maybe the mop / will push on without me . . . They will call it Jorge (21 22, 24).
Feeling disregarded, he believes no one would notice his disappearance so long as the mop continued
moving. They would call the mop Jorge because, to them, the speaker is merely an object. Clearly,
both poems speakers are unhappy with the lack of appreciation or even acknowledgement they receive

Risk In College
Risk... such a difficult word to define. Generally associated with negative connotations, oftentimes
viewing risks as things you should stay away from things that will undoubtedly lead to your downfall.
To an extent, I can agree with them. There are situations in which you should not take risks, such as
driving with your knees on the way to work because you re too busy eating cereal. Personally, I ve
never been much of a risk taker, primarily because it seems like I ve never been faced with
opportunities in which I ve had to take risks. Honestly, the greatest risks I had taken during my pre
collegiate years probably involved talking back to my parents, all of which I regretted soon after.
However, when it comes to an area of life such as education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I have tried my hardest in all of my classes, and I think the grades I have earned show that.
I have taken rigorous, demanding courses that have challenged me like never before. Completing
these courses has actually shown me that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to, at least as long
as I am determined to do so. These courses have helped me become more confident in my problem
solving skills, which I believe are very important for someone pursuing an engineering degree to have.
After all, engineers are the world s problem solvers.
As I reminisce about all that I have gone through the past few years, I m glad that I chose to receive
my education from the Takoma Park Magnet School and Montgomery Blair HS . Looking back, I can
undoubtedly say that it would have been unwise for me to have taken a different route. In conclusion, I
m willing to take risks regarding my education, and I know that the money and time I invest to go in a
certain direction with my life and career will have countless positive

J. L Granatstein s Who Killed Canadian History
I will be examining J. L. Granatstein book Who Killed Canadian History? on its general concept and
solution of the problem at hand. First and foremost, it is important readers know who Granatstein is
because it will explain why he writes so passionately about Canadian history. Granatstein is one of the
most recognized Canadian historians and authors, who have written an impressive total of 45 books.
Along with writing many books regarding Canada, he has won many awards in regards to his work
such as the UBC Medal for Canadian Biography, the J. B. Tyrrell Historical Gold Medal, the Vimy
Award, and the Order of Canada. His academic achievements include honorary degrees from
Memorial University and the University of Calgary. He is also a well known ... Show more content on

I figured it was appropriate that the author did not place the blame on one party. Instead, he addressed
the various individuals in Canada that were not providing a fair education in its national and political
history as well as for the reasons why this is such a big deal. This book was educational as it gave
readers brief and sometimes precise examples, like how Canadians lack national and political
conscience within the academic curriculum. The Country s educational system needs to do a better job
training its educators and ultimately restructuring curriculums to deal with our current problems. The
book s exterior appearance is bright red, and often red, is associated with power. I believe that this
book has the authority to make readers think about their experience concerning Canadian history but
unfortunately, a majority of the population does not know enough of its history to learn from the
mistakes and successes of our predecessors. Along with the strengths of this book (argumentative
perspective, educational, and exterior appearance), there were a few weaknesses as well. To elaborate
on Granasteins effort, I believe he wrote from an androcentric perspective. There were times when he
sounded like a grumpy old historian man. I think his little rants reduced the effectiveness of the book.
He made many prejudice remarks concerning multiculturalism and social history (gender studies,
urban, economics, demographics, etc.). Since history is an accumulation of time periods and each
period varies in length, and the intensity of the events, it might be tough to establish the nation s needs
for clear, measurable standards for history. There is only so much information that an individual s
brain can retain for a period before they start losing

The Day of the Locust Essay
Nathanael West s The Day of the Locust tells the story of people who have come to California in
search of the American Dream. They travel west hoping to escape less than perfect lives and pursue
success in
Hollywood. The characters in this novel dream of a life of luxury, having lots of money, and living
happily ever after. They eventually come to the realization that the seemingly picture perfect life that
California represents is not as easy to attain as they once thought. The characters in The Day of the
Locust grow discontented and disappointed with their lives and embittered towards the world, which
instigates the downfall of this lower level of Hollywood society. Todd Hackett, Faye Greener, and
Homer
Simpson all depict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faye s insincere discernment of love is a prevalent example of Hollywood s degenerative impact upon
those in search of materialistic success.
Todd s failed efforts to gain the love of Faye Greener characterize his downfall and failure to aspire to
his dreams and goals. While continuing to pay no attention to Todd, Faye Greener strives to become
famous among the movie scene in Hollywood. Her beauty and allure are only surpassed by her
rapaciousness and materialism. A dim cognizance of these traits lead her to blame herself for her
father s death. I killed him (122), Faye exclaims realizing that she had once informed him that if he
could not buy her what she wanted that she would leave him to find someone who could. As Faye
faces her guilt for her father s demise, she furthermore sacrifices her moral beliefs when she works as
a prostitute to afford her father s funeral. Miss Greener s life strays more distant from her dreams as
she finds herself being sucked deeper into the Hollywood world of sex, drugs, and deceit. Faye s
selfishness not only shatters her dreams, but correspondingly plays with the emotions and lives of
others. Her constant flirting leads to fights between Earle Shoop and Miquel, eventually transforming
two friends into loathing ememies. At the same time, she drives Homer Simpson to madness. Faye
continuously makes herself the center of trouble while

Hildegard Of Bingen Essay
St. Hildegard of Bingen The story of St. Hildegard of Bingen was unique from the any of the other
saints. She started her life growing up with a holy woman as a mother who died when St. Hildegard
was 38, and right after became an abbess. She was the head of an abbey of nuns and lead them into the
arms of Jesus. She then started a daughter convent. St. Hildegard influenced the church through her
countless devotions to God through the talents of seeing visions, seeing the individual love that God
had for each of his creation and because of this, she had amazing stories to tell. St. Hildegard proved
that every person is a child of God, and that God loves us with equal love, and that he will always
forgive us in the end. Her feast day is December 17. She was born on September 16, 1098 with sickly
diseases. She died at the age of 81, on September 17, 1179. Right when she was born, she was gifted

Hildegard influenced the Church in many ways. She spread the word of God and preached what God
had wanted her too. She is someone who can be looked up upon, and known for her amazing work as
a songwriter, book writer, and preacher. The visions she had received from God were truly a miracle,
and the fact that she shared her life with all of us made it even more heroic. She stood proud and tall
for her faith, and did not care who did not believe her. St. Hildegard converted many people into the
Christian faith by announcing the love that God has for each of his children, and he says that each of
us is a living spark . People come into his kingdom to feel warm and welcome with others arms spread
wide. Her life began hard, being sickly as a baby, losing her mother and father, but somewhere in the
middle God found her. Little did she know she was given a special gift from above. She not only had
the visions but was brave enough to tell the world about them. She deserved to be announced a Saint,
and the church will be influenced by her story

The Physical Effects Of Smoking On The Body
It can be seen that the effects of smoking on your body can be very drastic, for example smoke in
tobacco contains many dangerous chemicals such as Tar; Carbon monoxide; Hydrogen cyanide;
Oxidizing chemicals; Metals and finally radioactive compounds known to be carcinogenic.
The physical effects on the respiratory system, meaning that the system of organs in the body take
control for the input of oxygen and the exhalation of smoking, this consist of irritation of the trachea
(windpipe) and larynx (voice box), a reduced lung function and breathlessness due to swelling of the
lungs, an impairment of the lungs clearance system which results to lung irritation and damage, an
elevated risk of lung infections and permanent damage to the air sacs of the lungs.
Moreover, the damage of the respiratory system can progress and effect the circulatory system. For
example, there will be a raised blood pressure and heart rate which will exceedingly tighten the blood
vessels in the skin eventually leading to the drop in skin temperature. As less oxygen is carried by the
blood, the blood would be more prone to clotting.
Emotionally, smoking can damage your immune system by causing infections such as pneumonia and
influenza and more severely a longer lasting illness which can decrease the levels of protective
antioxidants (such as vitamin c). When your body takes in nicotine, emotions swing in the opposite
way when the drug is removed causing a nicotine withdrawal. Smokers under nicotine

William Shakespeare Mentorship Essay
Shakespeare: A Question of Authorship
For centuries scholars have been examining the question whether William Shakespeare wrote all the
work that has been credited to him. In his short 52 years of life, he is said to have authored 154
sonnets, two epic poems, and 38 five act plays. Following the death of Shakespeare, many scholars
began researching information that may have proven why Shakespeare could not have been the
primary author or the author at all for many of these works. Four theories as to why Shakespeare could
not have written all the work that has been credited to him include: his limited education as an
individual of common birth; the shear difficulty and near impossibility for one individual to write so
many varied pieces, not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some believe that Queen Elizabeth I, wrote works attributed to Shakespeare because she devoted
herself to the study of the classical period and enjoyed theatrics. According to Sir Roger Naunton,
Queen Elizabeth translated one of the tragedies of Euripides from Greek to English for her own
amusement (Brown). Queen Elizabeth would be a good candidate because she had the best schooling,
understand royal court life, and a lot of theater as well as translation. During her time it was unlikely
to have a woman writer and Elizabeth actually did write other literary poems found in her possession (

  • 2. The Importance Of English Education Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the latest Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an average in reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since 2000. U.S. scores are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a surprise that Shanghai outscored every other country, in all areas tested. As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We have to educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a challenge to get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The United States is a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors are. My message to you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of the solution to our language gap. A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing second language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in language, throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, it is without a doubt of utmost importance for the citizens of the United States to become fluent in the world languages. As Americans, we have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Active Pixel Sensor Of Digital Cameras Photodiode Active Pixel Sensor in Digital Cameras Basic Working and Modes of Operation Aronee Dasgupta Telecommunication Department RV College of Engineering Bangalore, India aronee2008@live.com Bharghav Ram Telecommunication Department RV College of Engineering Bangalore, India bhargavrammv@yahoo.co.in Abstract Digital cameras have become extremely common as the prices have reduced. One of the drivers behind the falling prices has been the introduction of CMOS image sensors. Integrating a CCD sensor is very difficult with existing CMOS technology while a CMOS sensor. On the other hand CMOS sensors can be very conveniently integrated with the silicon substrate. The main objective of this essay is to provide information about active pixel sensors. Introduction The market for image sensors are showing an enormous increase in sales and developments of digital cameras and mobile phone cameras. Imaging sensors are mainly of two types: complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors and charge couple device (CCD) sensors. Active pixel sensors (APS) are the emerging sensors for the replacement of existing and widely used charged couple device (CCD) sensors. There is a constant drive in researchers to develop APS sensors which have more sensitivity have lower marginal noise faster operation and can capture greater detail. The reason for using an active pixel sensor and not a passive pixel sensor is that passive pixel sensors are very noisy as there are no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Commodification in the music industry and society has been present for many years. However this ubiquitous injustice has only been highlighted more recently, due to more people speaking out about how wrong it is. I have chosen to write about this topic as I believe is it relevant to today s society of gender equality. Clark (2000) Women, Gender, and Religion, talks about how the Ancient Greeks believe men and women were two different species. Men are the superior and women are the inferior. Clark says { Greek medical writers differ in their ideas about male and female bodies. The Hippocratic school presented men and women as separate species (what we might call a two sex model), whereas Aristotle considered women to be, Imperfect or defective men in what has been termed a one sex model. Women lacked the firm control of bodily boundaries that men had. Women changed shape during pregnancy, and they leaked: blood, tears, and emotion. Since woman does not bound herself, she must be bounded. This is achieved by organization of her space, prescription of her gestures, ordering of her rituals, imposition of headgear, attendants, and other trappings. } This describes women as a completely different and weak species, which have no control over who they are. They are fragmented beings. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed that the way to bound the female species was by trapping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Is Weber s Idea Of Economic Traditionalism Is weber s idea of economic traditionalism analysis relevant to the study of religion? Introduction The core of research on religion at present is of no doubt touching Max Weber s ideas on economic traditionalism. Weber in Solimano (2012: 42) talked about the importance of religion, especially the Protestant ethic in economic life. By venturing into the field of sociology of religion, Weber further succeeded in arousing many scholars interest in the study of different religions in the contemporary world. Agbikimi (2014: 30) notes that Weber s theory of religion has to do with the interaction between society and religion . This essay, discusses interia Webber s prominent writings on religion which are in fact related to economic traditionalism and the study of religion. The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism has been widely discussed in this essay. Berger (2010: 3) argued that it indicates the continued relevance of Weber s analysis regarding the correlation of the religion and economic development. The essay concludes that, Weber s economic traditionalism analysis is to a greater extent relevant in the study of religion today because of the sense it gives for religious significance which is linked to economic activities and the overall image of the world. Sung Ho (2012: 1) supports this conclusion by stating that Weber s wide ranging contributions gave critical impetus to the birth of new academic disciplines such as sociology and public administration as ... • 9. A Critical Review Of Deborah Ryan s Argument However, it is essential to point out that Deborah Ryan argued that to see pageants as anti modern is an oversimplification. For example, Ryan deemed, by drawing on the argument presented by Bill Schwarz, that the inventiveness of tradition may have required a popular projection of modernity and of the future to sustain the idea of the past. This suggests that although Parkerian pageants can be argued to be historical in the sense that it focuses on historical accuracy, Ryan s argument does not undermine the importance of history. This is particularly because she suggests that pageants still focused on the historic past in order to understand the present. Therefore, in Ryan s words pageants can be seen as part of the modern mass culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This demonstrates that history was consumed in historical pageantry, to a certain extent. For instance, Frank Lascelles explored the process of remembering in his 1907 Oxford historical pageant, which was staged on the banks of the River Cherwell and comprised 15 scenes covering 1,000 years of history of Oxford from St Frideswide. Lascelles brought a distinctive use of visual spectacle in his pageant as many of the scenes consisted of spectacular tableaux with no words. This is particularly because Lascelles believed that pageants should be concerned with the dramatic movement of masses of people in processions and dance, often in blocks of colour, rather than with spoken dialogue which is often tedious in the open air. While this was different from Parker s representation of pageants of portraying history based upon how things really were and as they really happened , Ryan argued this technique was particularly effective for conveying the act of remembering as a dialogue between the past and the present . Therefore, it can be argued that history was just one more technology of memory, one of a set of techniques developed in order that societies might remember. Although, this suggests that as Lascelles pageants visualised the past via allegory in order to remember, one can argue that it placed emphasis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive. Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to understand the needs of their customers. Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In particular, the Athens Acropolis is a magnificent citadel. The construction began in 447 BCE. The construction was overseen by the general Pericles of Athens. The planning alone was an immense procedure. Hundreds of artisans, metal workers, craftspeople, painters, woodcarvers, and literally thousands of unskilled laborers worked on the Acropolis. Since there is little gravity in space, the astronauts had no outside forces acting upon them once they were moved, unless something or someone hit them. The Pedestrian By Leonard Mead The Light in the Dark In any given situation, individuals experience conflicts when pursuing a personal desire as particular desires do not conform to the rules that societies standardize for individuals. Individuals quickly adapt to the modernization of the advancement of humanity and technology. Nevertheless, there may be a controversy deciding between obeying society s regulations of consistently keeping up with the innovative contemporary behaviour or sticking with subjective or independent aspirations. In the short story The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury, Leonard Mead s complication between pursuing his personal desire and choosing to conform creates an issue with the development as an individual. Symbols within the story that further highlighted the distinct difference between personal desires and deciding to conform include Mr. Mead s shoes, television, and the houses. Moreover, each symbol that was stated demonstrates a diverse idiosyncratic characteristic about the protagonist as does the psychological components of Mr. Mead such as word choice, speech, behaviour and mental processes. However, throughout the story, the protagonist, Mr. Leonard Mead is exemplified through a third person limitedpoint of view as it gradually illuminates the understanding that society s need for conformation and an individual s needs may produce a consequential disagreement of discrepancy. This book was educational as it gave readers brief and sometimes precise examples, like how Canadians lack national and political conscience within the academic curriculum. The Country s educational system needs to do a better job training its educators and ultimately restructuring curriculums to deal with our current problems. The book s exterior appearance is bright red, and often red, is associated with power. I believe that this book has the authority to make readers think about their experience concerning Canadian history but unfortunately, a majority of the population does not know enough of its history to learn from the mistakes and successes of our predecessors. Along with the strengths of this book (argumentative perspective, educational, and exterior appearance), there were a few weaknesses as well. To elaborate on Granasteins effort, I believe he wrote from an androcentric perspective. There were times when he sounded like a grumpy old historian man. I think his little rants reduced the effectiveness of the book. He made many prejudice remarks concerning multiculturalism and social history (gender studies, urban, economics, demographics, etc.). Since history is an accumulation of time periods and each period varies in length, and the intensity of the events, it might be tough to establish the nation s needs for clear, measurable standards for history.
