2. Doping Testing Should Not Be Banned
Steroids were introduced to the world by the Nazis because they needed aggressive soldiers (Sports
in America: Recreation, Business, Education,;Controversy., and Performance enhancing Drugs).
Doping was introduced into sports because people wanted to have an extra advantage on their
opponents (Sports in America: Recreation, Business, Education,;Controversy., and Performance
enhancing Drugs). Drug testing was introduced to the world in 1968 at the Olympics (Sports in
America: Recreation, Business, Education,;Controversy., and Performance enhancing Drugs). This
paper is meant to teach the world and yourself why doping in general is banned. Doping should not
be allowed for anyone, no matter their condition because it would give them an unfair advantage in
their performance, it may also have harmful effects on their health, and does not benefit our
economy. Doping should not be allowed because it would give them an unfair advantage in their

3. Essay Religion in American Politics
The United States of America has the most diverse religious population in the world. In places like
Iraq, Syria, Israel, Afghanistan, Yemen, and other countries too numerous to mention, countless
lives are lost over religious differences. In America, a Protestant can live happily next door to a
Jew, who might live across the street from a Muslim, or a Catholic, or a Sikh, or even a Humanist!
This is in no small way attributed to the fact that the US Constitution s First Amendment includes
what is known as the establishment clause, which states that Congress shall make no law respecting
an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, effectively separating affairs of
religious institutions from secular,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was starting to look as if politics were beginning to become more secular. As it is well known,
after Kennedy s assassination, Lyndon B. Johnson carried out the rest of Kennedy s term, and then
ran for reelection in 1964. Johnson, a left leaning Democrat found himself up against Barry
Goldwater from the right minded Republican Party. Early on in the 20th century, many of
Protestant denominations had adopted progressive, social reformist doctrines, that many people
still value to this day. Despite being Protestant, Goldwater s platform took a much more
conservative approach. This ended up backfiring on him, however, as many Christian publications
stated that they opposed Goldwater s policies. He was further stigmatized by the religious
publication The Christian Century as turning his patriotic rhetoric into religious nationalism. To
make matters worse for Goldwater, in October of 1964, less than a month before the general
election, 725 Episcopalian clergy and laymen from forty one states signed a resolution accusing
him of a transparent exploitation of racialism. Richard Nixon, a Republican and ex Vice President
at the time, claimed that these allegations were the most vicious in political history. As a result,
Lyndon Johnson won the 1964 election in an unprecedented landslide victory, with Barry
Goldwater only winning six states: his native Arizona, and five states in the heart of the Bible Belt
(Kosmin 1993:174 5). While religious leaders in the end

5. Article On Data Mining With Big Data

Jyothikiran Nandanamudi (Class ID: 25)
Ashok Yaganti (Class ID: 46)
Article: Data Mining with Big Data (Paper 1) This paper addresses the complications being
faced by Big Data because of increase in the volume, complexity of data and due to multiple
sources, which produces large number of data sets. With the increase of big data in different fields
like medicine, media, social networking etc., there is a need for better processing model which
can access the data at the rate at which the data increases. This paper proposed a processing model,
HACE theorem which can address the characteristics of the elements of Big Data revolution.
Overview and procedures: The author started with few examples, stating how ... Show more content

Here in the paper the authors mentioned about the privacy issues and then some dependency issues
from social networking sites which shows a need for understanding both semantics and knowledge
from applications for processing of Big Data with the use of Big Data mining algorithms in the form
of three tiers. In the later part of the paper the author discussed about the challenges faced by Big
Data in the three tiers as difficulty in accessing the data in terms of storage and computing, gaining
knowledge by understanding semantics and how privacy can be achieved and how the overall
optimization can be obtained. These challenges made the authors to develop many data mining
methods which explains the convoluted relationships of evolving data.
Strengths and Limitations: The introduction part is very clearly explained showing how Big Data
can be used and what are the main challenges being faced today due to volume, autonomous,
complexity and heterogeneity of data, but drawing the conclusion from the examples mentioned is
incomprehensible. The processing framework is conveniently illustrated in three tiers but
pipelining of these tiers with a comprehensible example would make the paper more satisfactory.
The authors tried to drag the explanation of three tier system rather than being concise. The article
lags in exhibiting scientific facts about the functionality of this HACE theorem based Big Data
Processing framework. The initiative took by authors in terms of

7. Designing A Business Plan For A Future Bed And Breakfast
I am in the process of designing a business plan for a future bed and breakfast that I would like to
open in a couple of years. I would like to purchase some land outside of Austin, TX in order to
build this bed and breakfast. I plan on starting this company with a partner, my younger sister,
Mercy. We want to know if we should start a general partnership, with both of us as a general
partner, or a limited partnership, with me as the general partner and Mercy as the limited partner.
In addition to the type of partnership we are considering establishing, we have already decided that
we will be using the entity theory of partnerships, which regards partnerships as a distinct and
separate entity from either of us, the partners. As such, both Mercy and I will be able to enter into
taxable transactions with the partnership. And this means that the partnership can hold the title to
the land, is not legally liable for our (the partners) debts, and is required to file annual returns using
the Form 1065 reporting operation results.
Our main question is that we would like to know what type of debt we should take out in order to
establish this partnership and be able to finance the land in which to build the bed and breakfast.
We want to know, and understand, the difference between recourse debt and non recourse debt
and how it pertains to a partnership as well as to the individual partners. We would also like to
know which of these two types would be the best type of debt to incur

9. Risk Takers Compare And Contrast
Despite the lack of communication, the comparison between risk takers and reckless people is a
key factor in life. Everyone will most likely experience one of these once in their life, but the real
question is which one will you be? Although they bear many minor similarities, the differences
between reckless and risktakers are obvious. Risk takers are people who represent the act of being
cautious while at the same time realizing there s a slight chance of failing. On the other hand,
reckless people show poor behavior such as being careless or acting foolish. A prime example
would be NASCAR drivers. These professionals risk their life doing what they love, while at the
same time being extremely aware of potential danger. Even though they still carry an abundance
of experience, they still make sure they have their armor equipped on their body and personal
vehicles. Reckless people basically don t follow rules. We see people on the roadways talking on
their phone,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is something risk takers rely to complete, which is why they have been given the
exceptional identity. William Burke Miller Skeet was known for being a very complete person,
mainly due to his responsibility of taking food to Floyd Collins knowing he s risking his life
down there. Everyone knew he could easily get stuck down there with Floyd but he refused to
give up and risked his life to continuously feed him. This is a prime example of being sacrificial
as well, which leads to being a risk taker. Many believe the definition of being reckless includes
the act of doing dumb things in public, but studies prove that most of the nonsense involves being
behind a wheel. When drivers took long glances away from the road at the wrong moment, they
were twice as likely to get into a crash. This includes drinking, texting, talking, and more while in a

11. Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Essay
Intellectual Property (IP) can be broadly described as using human intellect to create something
new or original, and it is collectively comprised of four categories: Trade secrets, trademarks,
copyrights, and patents. Intellectual property is a valuable asset that must be protected and
strategically managed. To fully foster innovation, intellectual propertyprotection is crucial. If
protection is lacking, than businesses and individual would not fully benefit from their inventions
and could possibly refrain from research and development. Intellectual property drives economic
growth and competitiveness. The direct and indirect economic impacts of innovation are
overwhelming, accounting for more than 40% of U.S. economic growth and employment (GIPC,
2015, para. 3). Intellectual property contributes tremendously to our national and state economies.
IP accounts for 74% of all US exports, which amounts to nearly $1 trillion. It is also important for
consumers. Solid IP rights assist consumers in making choices about the safety, effectiveness and
reliability in their purchases.
Many industries count on sufficient enforcement of their IP, by means of trade secrets, trademarks,
copyrights, and patents. According to the USPTO (2015) In the United States patents are available
to any person who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or
composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof (para.6). There are three types

― Viktor E. Frankl
Introduction
The term logotherapy is derived from a Greek word that translates as meaning and therapy, which is
defined as treatment of a condition, illness, or maladjustment (GoodTherapy, 2015). Logotherapy is
sometimes referred to at the Third Vienessen School of Psychotherapy , with Sigmund Freud s
psychoanalysis being the first, and Alfred Adler s individual psychologybeing the second. In
contrast to Freud and Aldler thought, Viktor Frankl, with the emergence of logotherapy, maintained
that a human s principal motivation is not to search for power or gratification, as but to discover the

Logotherapy is suitable for both religious and non religious individuals because of the spiritual (not
religious) dimension in the concept (Asagba, 2013).
Because the existential approach is based on universal human themes, because it does not dictate a
particular way of viewing reality, and because of its broad perspective, it is highly applicable in
working in a multicultural context. Existential therapy is useful in working with culturally diverse
clients because of its focus on universality, or the common ground that we all share. (Corey, 2012)
For an approach to be labeled as existential, it is essential that the cultural, social, political, and
ideological context be taken into account. Themes such as relationships, finding meaning, anxiety,
suffering, and death are concerns that transcend the boundaries that separate cultures. Clients in
existential therapy are encouraged to examine ways their present existence is being influenced by
social and cultural factors (Corey,

13. Analysis Of A Christmas Story The Movie
A Christmas Story the Musical The movie A Christmas Story has always been a family favorite
and tradition, so when the opportunity came up to go and see it as a theater production, my mom
and I knew that is exactly what we wanted to see. On December 2nd, my mom and I spent the day
together by getting dinner, going shopping, and ending the night with a play. A ChristmasStory the
Musical was produced by the Morgantown TheatreCompany and directed by Hillary Phillips, both
whom did an outstanding job making sure everything was perfect from beginning to end. When I
was in elementary school every year we would go to a play produced by the same company, so
going back as a sophomore in college brought back fun childhood memories, as did seeing my
childhood favorite Christmas movie on stage. I personally believe that this production was directed,
preformed, and thought out extremely well with an overall experience of excitement, laughter, and
the Christmas spirit! The relationship and energy that the audience had towards the performance
made a large impact on my enjoyment of the play. Since A Christmas Story
is such a popular movie,
hundreds of people came out and packed the theatre! The doors to the theatre did not open until a
half hour before, so there was a large line that wrapped around the building, despite it being cold
people were very upbeat and excited; many families had on matching Christmas sweaters, children

14. Diversity in Three Voices
Diversity in Three Voices Scientist When working with individuals from different cultures,
individuals informally learn the differences that exist between them and their respective cultures
(DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Often the word diversity is confused with political correctness
or human equality but it is the understanding of differences between people and how they interact.
Diversity is defined as the quality of being different but composed of distinct elements or qualities
(Parvis, 2005, p. 15). Throughout history the United States has been known as the melting pot, but
this concept was a perception not a reality because the melting pot ended up benefiting only white,
prominent settlers. Looking at diversity is observing differences and there are a lot of them. For
example, male versus female, religion versus no religion, homosexual versus heterosexual, foreign
or domestic, republican versus democrat, Caucasian versus African American, Mexican versus
Latino, Cherokee Indian versus Choctaw Indian, poor versus rich; and differences could
encompass several more pages. We can deny that differences exist or we can consent to differences
while discovering from others the assets of dissimilarity. People must learn, therefore, to recognize
differences in others their backgrounds, customs, and work schedules and appreciate, even
celebrate, those differences (DeCenzo Silhanek, 2001, p. 29). Artist When it is blatantly obvious

sculpture. It is typical of Egyptian sculpture to have an upright and stiff posture and that is

Meanwhile, Renaissance and Antiquity became a synonym of university, which was used
alternatively as its Latin translation academy . As Renaissance was over and was taken over by
Mannerism in art, academies became more loose and informal and grew in number in Italy. Since
1540 even the associations liked to call themselves academies, which further made the
understanding of its connotation complex. In Rome the academy found by Queen Christina
changed the notion further as it became center of activities like reading and criticizing poetry,
literature, performing drama and comedy plays. The author focused the meanings of academy

were added aims to the academies in Italy. However the term was never used for the entire
university or a school. In schools academies were referred as groups of students tutored privately
by some noblemen. This spread in the use of academies affected the art abundantly after the
Mannerism took over. Artists started to specialize in various genre of art i.e. still life, folk life,
water color etc. in contrast with Renaissance academies the Mannerism academies were organized,
with elaborated rules.

22. The Relations Between Syria And Lebanon
The post 9/11 world has bought about huge changes throughout the Middle East and many countries
are experiencing challenges unprecedented since the end of the Second World War. United States
foreign policy, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, and the geopolitical struggle between Iran and
Saudi Arabia throughout the Middle Easthas made the region politically unstable and ripe with
conflict and human suffering. This dire situation is a great example of how interconnected the
relationships of Middle Eastern countries are and how these relations often disseminate out and
affect the region as a whole. As such, an analysis of the bilateral relations between two Middle
Eastern countries allows us to partly understand how, when given historical context, this situation
came to be and what factors influence these relationships.
The bilateral relationship between Syria and Lebanon provides a great and unique analysis of the
factors that influence relationships between Middle Eastern states because of their shared but
complicated history. Both these countries used to be one in the same up until the early twentieth
century and their relations have gone through various evolutionary stages that have had a greater
political impact on the region altogether. In this paper I will examine the relationship between Syria
and Lebanon and seek to explain the key factors that influence this relationship.
The current relationship between Syria and Lebanon has largely been defined by the civil war

23. Duke Lacrosse Rape Case Study
The primary concern of this paper will be investigating the Duke lacrosse rape case through the
lens of a police captain. A chronology of events will be detailed, including the key players in the
case. Primarily focusing on the questionable actions of prosecutor Mike Nifong, and to a lesser
extent, Sgt. Mark Gottlieb. Including how the investigation was conducted, and interactions with
the media. After assessing these ethical dilemmas, an appropriate response will be determined.
On March 13, 2006, a party was hosted by the captains of the Duke lacrosse team. The party was
held at the off campus residence of the team captains (Mosteller, 2015). Present at the party were

Sgt. Gottlieb of the Durham Police Department assumed control of the investigation. During his
first interview with Gail, no notes were recorded. Approximately 48 hours after the party, Sgt.
Gottlieb requested a search warrant for the location of the party. Over the course of the
investigation, Gail s recollection of events changed multiple times. The number of attackers varied,
even one recollection accusing the second dancer, Kim Roberts, of helping the attackers. In Sgt.
Gottlieb s interview with Kim Roberts, she called Gail a crock (Johnson, 2006). Additionally, Gail
claimed she was attacked brutally and suffered multiple injuries. Each student offered to take
polygraphs, which were declined. DNA samples were also provided by players, which came back
negative after testing by the crime lab. At this time, Gail s credibility came into question. The
number of attackers changed multiple times, from 1 to 5 attackers. The accuser claimed she was
brutally attacked; however, the medical examination yielded no physical injuries. While
interviewing the second dancer, she stated she never left the accuser alone for more than 5 minutes.
DNA testing conducted by the crime lab came back negative, displaying no connection to the
accuser and players. Despite the insufficient evidence, Sgt. Gottlieb continued with the
investigation. A photo lineup was requested by Sgt. Gottlieb to determine the identities of the
attackers. The lineup only

Memo
To:| Mary Stanford | From:| Ben Ji | Date:| September 26, 2012| Re:| Goodwill Impairment Test | | |
Galaxy Sports Inc. is a manufacturer of sports equipment. It is a public company with three
reporting units: Fitness Equipment, Golf Equipment, and Hockey Equipment. During our audit,
certain accounting treatments by Galaxy regarding goodwill impairment were found to possibly
contradict with the Accounting Standard Codification. Based on my research of the ASC, my
recommendations are that management should perform an interim goodwill impairment test at the
end of third quarter of fiscal year 2009; and that management should not carry forward the 09
goodwill impairment test for Fitness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is reasonable to say that fair value of reporting units have fallen significantly in pace with
market capitalization, and it has possibly fallen below book value of the reporting units.
Therefore, above analysis raises substantial doubt on management s action to carry forward the 09
fair values of Fitness and Hockey. They should not carry forward the previous fair value estimates
and should revalue Fitness and Hockey for 2010.
Another argument refuting the decision to carry forward 2009 values finds its root in the ASC.
According to ASC 350 20 35 29, only when all of the three criteria below are met may a
company carry forward fair value determinations. The criteria are: a) assets and liabilities of the
unit should not have changed significantly. Hockey and Fitness seem to meet this criterion. b) The
last fair value determination of the unit should be substantially larger than their carrying amount
at the time. Hockey and Fitness meet this criterion. c) The likelihood that the current fair value is
less than the carrying amount should be low4. Hockey and Fitness s current fair value is possibly
less than their carrying amount, not meeting this criterion. Because not all of the criteria for a fair
value carry forward are met, the fair value of Hockey and Fitness may not be carried forward from
09.
It is important to note the limitations of the analysis. First, fair value estimates are subject to
professional judgment and errors

27. The Berlin Blockade Is The First Major International...
The Berlin Blockade is said to be the first major international crises of the Cold War. The basis of
this blockade was to cut of Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the eastern side of the
city. The Soviets proposed an offer to the west, in which they would drop the blockade, if newly
introduced Deutschmark currency was withdrawn from West Berlin. But seeing as though if they
did agree, the German society would only crumble even further, so the westerners rejected the
offer. The idea of the an airlift came to mind of the western allies, as they wanted aid Berlin
citizens and abolish the Soviet authority. This idea was inspired by the World War II American
airlift from India, over the Himalayas, to China The Hump , to resupply the Chinese war effort.
Planning and investigating were soon done by the three nations in an attempt to figure out and
carry out a large scale solution.
On November 30th, 1945, it was announced that there would be 23 mile wide air corridors
providing passage to Berlin. Since the use of unarmed aircraft would be the transport method, the
Soviets could not accuse that the cargo aircraft were a military threat, like if they were tanks or
trucks. Being faced with non lethal aircraft refusing to turn around, the only way to keep the
blockade impassable would be to shoot them down. The Soviets were forcibly put in a position of
either shooting down unarmed humanitarian aircraft, which in turn would break their own
agreements, or back down

28. HMGB1 And Alzheimer s Disease Analysis
HMGB1 is a prototypic damage associated molecular pattern (DAMP) protein highly secreted by
activated macrophages and monocytes as a cytokine mediator of inflammation. This DNA binding
nuclear protein is released both passively during cell death and actively following cytokine
stimulation. It is also implicated in both infectious and sterile inflammatory disorders [32 36]
affecting the central nervous system(CNS) such as in Parkinson s disease (PD) [37], multiple
sclerosis (MS) [38,39], ischemic stroke [40], traumatic brain injury (TBI) [41] and Alzheimer s
disease AD [42 44]. HMGB1 activates cells by differential engagement of several membrane
receptors including advanced glycation end products (RAGE), toll like receptor 2 (TLR2), and
TLR4 which are primarily responsible for HMGB1 pro inflammatory activity and BBB
impairment [45,46]. Specific to the proposed work, several studies have clearly outlined the role
of OS in the development of microvascular and cardiovascular complications of 2DM [47].

The topic of war and peace has become an increasingly important area concerning international
relations over the past decade. Wars varying from Russia s invasion of Georgia, to the United States

wars, along with all other wars, are started for various reasons, which different international
relationstheories try to identify. Theories such as realism or institutionalism may have severely

A liberal, someone who subscribes to the state society approach, would argue that, liberal theory
provides a plausible theoretical explanation for variation in the substantive content of foreign
policy. In other words, while realism and institutionalism may focus on the formal causes of
conflict and cooperation, such as military power; the state society approach explains state s
behavior with regard to certain contexts more appropriately. For example, why should the US
worry about a limited number of nuclear weapons possessed by North Korea, while countries like
Great Britain and France own much larger stockpiles of nuclear weapons? According to realist
theory, states are wary of long term treaties with other states, and therefore the United States should
be worried about those countries that pose a greater potential threat. As modern politics have
shown, this is, of course, not the case. States perceive threats not in the most potentially dangerous,
but in the enemy most likely to provoke war. It is also important to note, that during the course of
history, states change whom they believe to be perceived threats, another fundamental flaw with
both realism and institutionalism. Realism contributes, no theoretical importance, (p. 535) to the
advancement of economic development in international politics, while a liberal would argue that
the economic nature of a state has a direct affect on state behavior.

Hackers are typically defined as individuals that gain unauthorized access to another person s
computer. Although that definition is rather specific it can be broadened to include other illegal
activities such as phishing , which can be done on its own and may be separate from hacking. The
hacker community is what is contended to be an imagined community meaning they occupy no
singular geographic location, like members of a community like Rosedale, nor have they have any
set guidelines for becoming a computer hacker. The hackercommunity is highly fluid, with
members leaving and others taking their places all the time. Most hackers tend to either form close

Hackers are given more of a free pass than other deviant communities are from society because of
the high level anonymity in the community, their motivations are claimed to be honourable, and the
high amount permeability of computer culture into the mainstream normalizes their behaviour.
Anonymity and Secrecy
Anonymity is a defining characteristic of the internet, but, the understanding of the word is
different for the hacker community than it is for the general public, as it if often closely tied to
the notion of secrecy. Even though these two words are so closely related they remain distinct
from one another. For example, one can choose never to identify themselves, instead opting to
remain totally anonymous in the truest sense of the word. Fox news did a report on such a
group actually named Anonymous where none of the hackers use screen handles, instead
loosely organizing themselves on a message board. However it would seem that the majority of
hackers choose to identify themselves via a handle. The word handle basically refers to what
most would think of as a screen name or user name which allows the hacker to be easily
indentified by members of the community. Furthermore, the use of a handle, or screen name,
allows that hacker to take credit for their deeds online while keeping their real life separate. A
disadvantage to using screen names, as pointed out in Jordan and Taylor s article, is that a single
individual may have

33. Summary Of Chinua Achebe s The Ibo Culture
Q Zhang
HE 250 09
Storytelling in the Ibo Culture The Nigerian classic Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe skillfully
delineates the daily lives of African communities from a local perspective. Specifically, Achebe s
book focuses on the Ibo culture and the oral traditions within the indigenous society. Because the
Ibo people do not have a written language, the book shows oral tradition mainly storytelling as the
main shaping force for their culture and society. Throughout the book, some stories merely provide
entertainment while others help create personal bonds. Although both reasons for telling stories are
important to the Ibo society, storytelling is most crucial to the Ibo culture because it preserves the
religion, societal values, and gender roles within its community. Lacking a written document
such as the Bible, the Ibo religion relies on oral storytelling to pass on religious beliefs. In the
later half of the book, Christian missionaries arrive at the Ibo villages and begin to gain converts.
This spreading of Christian beliefs soon threatens to replace the native Ibo religion. After the
missionaries arrival, one of the Ibo religious leaders, Akunna, meets with a missionary to discuss
the differences between their belief systems. In the conversation, Akunna describes the supreme
Ibo god: We ... believe in Him and call Him Chukwu. He made all the world and the other gods ...
He appoints the smaller gods to help Him because His work is too great for one person (179).

There is a diversity problem in Silicon Valley. Why is there such a diversity problem you might
ask? Some of the issues lie within the companies that are doing the hiring. There are many
companies that are coming up with diversity programs to try and help alleviate the problem by
encouraging minority groups to get involved in the Information Technology fields. Another part of
the problem is getting minoritygroups involved as children. Research has been done to show that
77% of parents do not know how to assist their child to pursue a career in the Information
Technology Field. There is a much more underlying issue however in the fact that the companies
themselves do not hire enough minorities. Moreover, when they do hire them they don t like they
belong there because of the culture of the companies. It would appear that the companies are just
wasting money on developing programs to help inspire minorities when they are not making them

36. Modern Definition Of Hero In Beowulf
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, the modern definition of hero is a person admired for
achievements and noble qualities or one who shows great courage. Over centuries people s views
of what they consider a hero has transformed. Alfred de Vigny s claim that there are no heroes and
no monsters in this world makes it clear that he defines heroin a different way. Despite de Vigny s
claim that there are no heroes or monsters today, I believe there are, due to the selfless acts made
by various people everyday and the ghastly felonies committed by others. The definition of hero
has evolved to become more relevant in the world today and many people from recent centuries
have done heroic deeds both large and small.

They were acclaimed for strength, for kindly guidance (line 1219) by being recognized for large
accomplishments they completed, like Beowulf when he defeated Grendel. Many heroes receive
praise, but not all are noticed. They may do small things and do not expect recognition, but their
actions still play a role in the outcome of a good event.
Critics may argue that there are no heroes in the world today because they do not fight in actual
battles against an enemy to defend a certain area or group of people. However, there are many
ordinary people that do extraordinary things every day. Current heroes save and help people in
numerous ways with their undaunted courage (line 572), like that of Beowulf. Military
personnel help defend their country in a way similar to that of a warrior. They put their lives in
danger to protect the rights and safety of those from their country. Firefighters and police
officers also risk their lives for the safety of others. Doctors, nurses, and paramedics respond to
those in need of medical care and save many lives. Obviously these people are heroes according

39. John Coltrane
Intro to Music Masterworks
Final Paper
Jazz music was originally developed by African Americans during the start of the twentieth century.
Throughout the semester we have studied the timeline of musical periods including the Romantic
and Classical eras of music. Becoming internationally popular in the 1920 s, jazz music has been
typically described as America s Classical Music. The musical periods we have discussed in this
course have influenced and show a strong relation to jazz music and also jazz musicians. Among
these musicians, is John Coltrane, considered one of the greatest jazz saxophonists and composers
of all time. He was also one of the most important and influential musicians of the twentieth century.

This performance was perhaps the most memorable of his career. During this stage of his career
he released an individual album Blue Train recorded by Alfred Lion and Blue Note productions,
which was considered the powerhouse of this era in jazz. Blue Train was one of the most
important and best selling albums that Blue Note has ever released. In the late 50 s through the
early 60 s, Coltrane was welcomed back by Miles Davis and company since at this point he was
drug free. Jazz critic Ira Gitler invented the term sheets of sound expressing the one of a kind
style of Coltrane s music during this era with Davis. During this time they wrote sessions like
Milestones and Kind Of Blue and also recorded the hit single, So What which was recorded in
1959 with Coltrane soloing. Miles Davis and John Coltrane put together amazing jazz that we
appreciate today, but the audience at that present time were very critical. For instance, their last
show which was held in France resulted in them being booed off the stage. Soon after the duo went
their separate ways, John began playing soprano saxophone, an unusual transition that was
questioned by many people at the time. Rumor has it that he made the switch because the

The line between reality and illusion is often blurred in Arthur Miller s play, Death of a

The theme, confusion between reality and illusion leads to a downfall, applies here because in
a way suicide is the ultimate downfall. Charley, a voice of reason, counter argues that nobody s
worth nothin dead (98). Charley is consistently in reality and is one of the most successful
people in the play. So, the fact that Charley recognizes reality in the harshest and brightest light
is what kept him from experiencing a downfall in his life. If the Willy was not confused about
the reality of his life, there may not have been such a great fall when his life amounted to less
than he expected, and when Biff s life did not turn out to be what he had hoped. Apart from
Willy s delusion of his own success, he also sees his sons as great successes in the business

because they have been [blown] so full of hot air [they] could never stand taking orders from

should be the one giving the orders, not taking them. When Willy tells his boys together [you]

44. Enzymes Paper
Determining the Production of Glucose During Changes in Temperature and pH, and Manipulation
of Specificity and Cofactors
BIOL 1406 SL8
November 16, 2012
Abstract
Enzymes are biological catalysts. They work by lowering the activation energy needed to initiate a
chemical reaction. Enzymes work within an optimal temperature and optimal pH. Enzymes are
highly specific for a single substrate. The Enzyme is usually much larger in size than the substrate it
binds to. In some cases, an enzyme requires something called a cofactor to begin the chemical
reaction. There were four different experiments that were executed in the enzyme lab. Experiment
7.1, the first experiment, was performed to test the effect of temperature on enzymatic ... Show more

Specificity just means that specific substrates should bind best to specific enzymes. For
example the enzyme lactase should bind best to the substrate lactose, rather than lactase binding
well to maltose. A Cofactor is another key component in some enzyme reactions. Cofactors are
small inorganic molecules required for catalysis to occur in some reactions. Usually, cofactors
are a metallic ion such as copper, zinc, iron, calcium, and so on. Cofactors may be bound tightly
to the enzyme as permanent residents, or they may bind loosely and reversibly along with the
substrate. A cofactor will enter the active site before the substrate and act as a helper to start the
reaction. Some enzymes require the cofactor and some don t. The enzyme used in the four
different experiments was lactase. Lactase is an enzyme found in the small intestine, liver, and
kidneys of mammals. Lactase binds to lactose, reducing it to the simple sugars Glucose and
Galactose, which can eventually be utilized as a source of energy in cells. Lactase is an important
enzyme and the absence of lactase leads to lactose intolerance. According to the A.D.A.M. Medical
Encyclopedia, lactose intolerance is very common in adults and is rarely dangerous. About 30
million American adults have some amount of lactose intolerance by age 20 (A.D.A.M. 2012).
Some symptoms include abdominal bloating, cramps, diarrhea, gas, and nausea (A.D.A.M. 2012).

45. Bear Grylls Quotes
You only get one chance at life and you have to grab it boldly that inspiring quote was said by Bear
Grylls ( Grylls ). Bear Grylls is the author of the book A Survival Guide for Life. Grylls was born on
7th June 1974 and is currently 41 years old ( Bear ). He is one of the many famous British men
and he is known for his stunning adventures and his sensational television show Man vs. Wild. He
has worked in various military services like the Territorial Army, Special Air Services, etc. He has
written 11 different books and his first bookwas A kid who climbed the Everest ( Bear Grylls
Biography ). Grylls is genuinely helping the reader as he provides the reader with an effective
guideline or a principle to follow with an inspiring and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in the book in chapter 49 he mentions about how his friend Mark managed to
complete his huge office work in a single day to receive his awaited reward. Grylls said that if
everyone works at their highest level they could charge down many goals in less time and they
could start enjoying their desired life after accomplishing their goals (Grylls 188). That example
was really motivating to the reader and causes the reader to work at his highest level. He also
explains the effectiveness of working at highest level. Grylls s suggestions in the book are
realistic and effective. Grylls s suggestions are realistic because he discuss about his own
personal experiences to support his ideas, for example in chapter nine he mentions about when
he got selected for SAS. His commander said that in fact, but what makes our work here special
is your ability to give that little bit extra when most simply give up (Grylls 46). That was his own
personal life example which makes his ideas realistic. His suggestions are effective because his
personal life experiences and their results show the effectiveness. In this chapter 43 Grylls changes
the vocabulary like weekend to strong end or alarm clock to opportunity clock because he claims
that changing vocabulary changes the way the brain thinks like week end means

46. Essay about Dollar Diplomacy
Dollar Diplomacy
Ever since the 17 republics of mainland Latin America emerged from the wreck of the Spanish
Empire in the early 19th century, North Americans had viewed them with a mixture of
condescension and contempt that focused on their alien culture, racial mix, unstable politics, and
moribund economies. The Western Hemisphereseemed a natural sphere of U.S. influence, and this
view had been institutionalized in the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 warning European states that any
attempt to extend their system to the Americas would be viewed as evidence of an unfriendly
disposition toward the United States itself. On the one hand, the doctrine seemed to underscore
republican familiarity, as suggested by references to our sister ... Show more content on

rights to the naval base.
In the Roosevelt Corollary (1904) to the Monroe Doctrine the United States assumed an
international police power in cases where Latin American insolvency might lead to European
intervention. Foreign intervention in Latin American resurfaced as an issue in U.S. foreign policy
at the turn of the century as European governments began to use force to pressure several Latin
American countries to repay their debts. For example, British, German, and Italian gunboats
blockaded Venezuela s ports in 1902 when the Venezuelan government defaulted on its debts to
foreign bondholders. Many Americans worried that European intervention in Latin America would
undermine their country s traditional dominance in the region. Quoting an African proverb,
Roosevelt claimed that the right way to conduct foreign policy was to speak softly and carry a big
stick.
Roosevelt resorted to big stick diplomacy most conspicuously in 1903, when he helped Panama to
secede from Colombia and gave the United States a Canal Zone.
Construction began at once on the Panama Canal, which Roosevelt visited in 1906, the first
president to leave the country while in office. He considered the construction of the canal, a symbol
of the triumph of American determination and technological know how, his greatest
accomplishment as president. As he later boasted in his autobiography, I took the Isthmus, started
the canal and then left

50. Comparison Between Night And Fog
In 1956, just a few years after the Holocaust came to an end, director Alain Resnais released the
documentary Nuit Et Brouillard meaning Night and Fog. The film is presented in both color and
black and white, and is narrated in French by Michael Bouquet. In the film, the abandoned grounds
of Nazi concentration camps Auschwitz and Majdanek are pictured. As images of the camps are
shown, the narrator describes one of the most devastating historical events in detail. Each element
of the film come together to create an incredibly raw and evocative portrayal of the atrocities that
occurred during the Holocaust. The director of Night and Fog, Alan Resnais, had a great interest in
creating films that were concerned with war. This interest may be due in part to his own
involvement in the armed forces when he was a young adult. This particular piece of his work was
extremely successful, and it is considered by many to be the most important film addressing the
Holocaust. When compared to most work centered around the Holocaust, Night and Fog is an
incredibly honest depiction of the atrocities that occurred.
Many creative elements that contribute to the overall impact of the film are incorporated in Night
and Fog. Present day images of the abandoned concentration camp grounds are shown in color,
whereas flashbacks of the camps during the Holocaust are shown in black and white. As the images
are shown the film is being narrated in French by Michael Bouquet. He maintains a dark and

51. 1st Day of Decameron (1st-4th Story)
Summary of Decameron tales First day The basilica of Santa Maria Novella, with a Renaissance
façade that was completed about 100 years after the Decameron was written. Before beginning
the story telling sessions, the ten young Florentines, 7 women and 3 men, referred to as the
Brigata,[1] gather at the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella and together decide to escape Black
Death by leaving the city to stay in a villa in the countryside for the next two weeks. Each agrees
to tell one story each day for ten days. The stories are told in the garden of the first villa that the
company stays at, which (although fictional) is located a few miles outside the city. Under the rule

Thus it could not be determined who was heir to the estate. Likewise, it cannot be determined
which faith is the truth. Saladin appreciates Melchizedek s wisdom and decides to be honest
with him. In the end, Saladin gets his loan and repays it and Melchizedek gets Saladin s respect
and gifts of praise for his intelligence. Filomena narrates this tale, which portrays the main
character as wise and in a positive light. Unlike other medieval and Renaissance authors,
Boccaccio treats Jews with a respect that makes even modern readers feel comfortable.
Boccaccio may have had contact with Jews while living in Naples as a young man. The oldest
source is found in a French work by Stephen of Bourbon called The Seven Gifts of the Holy
Spirit. However, a slightly younger (c. 1270 1294) French poem called Li dis dou vrai aniel was
Boccaccio s probable source. This tale was especially popular in the Renaissance and can be
found in many versions all over Europe. It is also referred to as The Tale of the Three Rings and
The Legend of the Three Rings and, according to Carlo Ginzburg, was quoted in the heresy trial
of the Italian miller Menocchio.[2] Fourth tale (I, 4) A young monk lapses into seducing a
young woman and is secretly observed by an elder abbot. However, he knows that he has been
seen and so leaves, on pretense of finishing a task, and gives the key to his room to the abbot, who
then goes to see the girl for himself. On seeing the
