Vitamin C Essay
A question that is commonly asked when receiving a virus is, what is the fastest way to get rid of it?
No human enjoys the presence of a common cold, despite more extreme terms such as the flu. Rest
and fluids are typically the first reaction to curing a common cold. Then, medicine that is categorized
toward the symptoms is received. Although, how do you speed up the process? Many think that the
intake of large doses of vitamin c can speed up or potentially get rid of the cold all together.
Vitamin C is very essential to our bodies. Vitamin C helps the body to maintain its collective tissues.
This also includes our bones, blood vessels, and skin. Vitamin C is scientifically known as L ascorbic
acid. The vitamin is a water soluble vitamin that can be found in several fruits and vegetables. Vitamin
C can also be found as a dietary supplement. It is essential for our bodies to have some source of
vitamin C intake. Vitamin C is required for the biosynthesis of collagen, L carnitine, and certain
neurotransmitters; vitamin C is also involved in protein metabolism. Collagen is an essential
component of connective tissue, which plays a vital role in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an
important physiological antioxidant [3] and has been shown to regenerate other antioxidants within the
body, including alpha tocopherol (vitamin E). (1) The overall body intake for vitamin C runs to a high
of 2g. Lower amounts of vitamin C can be found in areas such as eyes, pituitary gland, and

Should Be Allowed In Court Cases
Beside jurisdictional questions, I think we have three main arguments on the injunction fee s issue.
They are 1) the motion is not timely, 2) the statute does not allow for fees to be placed upon the State,
3) the injunction was not improperly granted. I would start off by mentioning that Idbeis v. Wichita
Surgical Specialists, P.A., 285 Kan. 485, 488, 173 P.3d 642, 646 (2007) does appear to be the main
case in this area of law, and beside Idbeis most of the other cases tend to be older, so some areas of
this topic do not seem to be covered well. I would also note that if fees were to be awarded, they
would only be able to get fees related to attempts to overturn the injunction and so say fees that were
done for the general case would not apply. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
§ 60 905, provides that a party seeking an injunction post a surety. This surety according to the statute
is used to pay damages. The State though is not required to pay a surety and I believe there is an
argument to be made that damages can only come for sureties. I would first mention that there is a
case that does somewhat counter this idea. Brady, 25 Kan. App. At 795 96. In Brady, the Court of
Appeals did imposed fees on a party that did not post a bond, because the court did not requirement
them to do so. Id. The Court did indicate that the State may need to post a surety, but this was dicta as
the State did not play a role in the case. I should note that attorney fees can only be required if there is
a clear and specific statutory provision. Idbeis, 285 Kan. at 488. The Kansas Supreme Court has
indicated that a party was entitled to recover if a bond was present. Alder v. City of Florence, 194 Kan.
104, 111, 397 P.2d 375, 381 (1964). Furthermore, the Court has also indicated that the bond itself it
the source of damages. Texas Const. Co. v. Hoisting Portable Engineers Local Union No. 101, 180
Kan. 393, 396, 304 P.2d 498, 500 (1956). An early Kansas case also found that a party could not
recover in an amount higher than the bound. Baker v. Craig, 127 Kan. 811, 275 P. 216, 217 modified,
128 Kan. 676, 280 P. 771 (1929). I think there is an argument to be made that because the statute does
not require Kansas to post a bond, that there is no source for damages to be paid under the

ANTH 1120 Midterm Exam Review
Exam Review: TERMS Culture: The system of meanings about the nature of experience that are

behaviours of others from the perspective of one s own culture. Ethnocentric Fallacy: The mistaken
notion that the beliefs and behaviours of other cultures can be judged from the perspective of one s

The egocentric self takes on the idea that each individual, as an aware and distinct person, is
responsible for their actions. As such, the individual possesses intrinsic qualities such as generosity,
integrity, or beauty. However, for the sociocentric self, no individual possesses the intrinsic qualities;
generosity, integrity, or beauty can only apply to social situations (i.e. rather than the man is generous,
for the egocentric self, the sociocentric self would see he gives money to his friends ). Provide one
reason why anthropologists prefer to use the ethnographic method. To avoid bias that can emerge from
an armchair approach, anthropologists can conduct their own research through the ethnographic
method and collect vital information through surveys and questionnaires themselves in the
ethnographic method. Participant observation allows for in depth immersion in the lives of the
particular group to understand the meanings these people ascribe to their existence, allowing the
anthropologist to see others from their point of view. Identify and briefly explain two challenges in
doing fieldwork. Fieldwork requires funding and permission; anthropologists require sponsorship
from the government or other external benefactors. The application process to receive funding from
the government is also highly competitive, meaning that anthropologists

Marx Weber and Durkheim on Religion Essays
A religion can be seen as a unified system of beliefs and practices which are relative to sacred things
and beliefs (Giddens 1972, p.224). It can shape ones thoughts and feelings and gives people a sense of
hope and something to believe in. All three main sociologist writers Karl Marx, Max Weber and Emile
Durkheim offer different perspectives on religion and how important it is to society. Some of the
theorists chose to have a positive view whilst others argue the unimportance of religion. This essay
attempts to discover which theorist has the most accurate perspective of religion in modern times. This
is done by firstly explaining the basic ideas regarding to religion put forward by Marx, Weber and
Durkheim. Then both Marx s and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Marx, religion can be seen as the opiate of the people (Engels, Marx 1955, p.41). Here,
Marx is suggesting that just like opium, religion is trying to relieve people of the pain and suffering in
their lives. Marx also puts forward the idea that religion is used by its oppressors in order to make
people feel better about their lives. Thus, it can be seen that Marx chooses to adopt a negative view of
religion. Max Weber can be seen as the only sociologist to place so much scope and emphasis on the
subject of religion (Nisbet, p.250). Biographical and textual evidence suggests that biblical religion
played a part in shaping and influencing Weber s life and the context of his sociology. Weber s main
concern was to attempt to demonstrate that religious ideologies were not mechanically connected to
the economic structure of society, however it does shape individuals behavior and actions in everyday
life (Swingewood 1984, p.152). Weber also came to several conclusions regarding the remarkable
relationship between capitalism and Protestant. According to Weber, the more capitalism had a free
hand to alter social distribution, the larger the relationship between capitalism and protestant (1930,
p.4). Overall, it can be seen that the three main sociology theorists differ greatly when it comes to
ideas regarding to religion.

Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
The Secret Life Of Bees, written by Sue Monk Kidd, should be considered a classic because of its
unique way of relating the characters and the story line to the reader s emotions and to history. In The
Secret Life Of Bees and all books descriptive detail and skillful writing is crucial. The principle reason
this story is a classic is because of how Sue Monk Kidd was able to use a metaphor throughout the
entire story. Bees represent society and life and without help from other bees and the queen bee, the
hive dies an incredible and unique way to show the readers the importance of appreciating life.
Classics need numerous features to be considered one of the highest quality, and The Secret Life Of
Bees has very many. Italo Calvino, Nelson ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Secret Life Of Bees should be considered a classic. It says ¨... uniquely suited to helping us to the
rhythms and habits of daily life...¨ , just like Italo Calvino said classics need to have a way of
influencing and relating to readers, this article says it is necessary for classics to be able to teach
readers something by bringing them into the story. The passage I recognized those ideas in the novel
of The Secret Life Of Bees was when August and Lily were taking care of the bees. That section of the
book intrigued me and added to my life because of the dialogue, setting, and mood. Along with the
first article citation from the Wall Street Journal, a second fragment of the article goes along with my
point . ¨ People have always received life guiding wisdom from certain types...(of books)¨ Italo
Calvino and Nelson Lowhim both agree in saying classics have to teach the reader something and
there has to be a moral to the story. In The Secret Life Of Bees , many bits of the book had the ability
to teach readers important lessons. ´¨I remembered how I´d visited Our Lady in the middle of the
night, how I d placed my hand on

The Last Mohicans Conflict Essay
Conflicts in The Last Mohicans From the first chapter in James Fenimore Cooper s Leatherstocking
Tale The Last Mohicans the evidence of extreme conflict between multiple parties is glaringly
obvious. The struggle between the wilderness of the American country and those who endeavored to
tame it, the clash between the French and the Colonials/British over the new world territory, the
emulation between the various tribes of Indians, and the conflict between the main heroes and villains
of the story are all very prevalent in this historic novel. James Cooper shows how the conflicts
between these very different groups of people and nature itself has a predominate effect on all who are
involved. Cooper s descriptions of the North American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to many a battle in which the Indians and Europeans participated. The bloodiest conflict of
these was the massacre after the fall of Fort William Henry. The initial conflict that sparked the
slaughter after the British had surrendered and abandoned the fort was that between an Indian from the
Heron tribe, (They are allies of the French), and a mother with a baby leaving the fort. The inhabitants
of the fort had been allowed to leave in a procession, but the gaudy colors of a shawl (180) attracted
the eye of a young Heron. He tried to seize it from the mother and when she held it away, he took her
babe instead. She then attempted to give the shawl to him, but now uncaring, he dashed the head of
the baby against a rock and killed the mother with a tomahawk. Then the Herons leapt upon the
previous occupants of the fort and killed them, scalped them, and drank their blood. ...many among
them even kneeled to the earth, and drank freely, exultingly, hellishly, of the crimson tide (182). In
describing this, Cooper shows the brutal nature of some of the Indians and what happens in the
conflicts between them and their enemies. Also the French did not try to stop this act, so it is perceived
that they knew about it and it was planned along. This is proof of the hatred of the French against the
English, by using their Indian allies to commit this act of terror. These

Friar Lawrence Is Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and...
In the Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence was a monk, and a counselor, who
came up with intricate plots and concocted a seemingly magical elixir in order to solve problems that
the lovers encountered. Friar Lawrence had a profound impact on the outcome of this Shakespearean
play; however, in a way that led to catastrophe. There are many factors that caused the deaths of the
lovers, but two of the most important were how Friar Lawrence disregarded his own logic, and how he
missed numerous opportunities to save the lovers. First of all, Friar Lawrence explicitly knew better
than to do many of the things he did. First, he should not have agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet so
quickly. Romeo wanted to marry Juliet after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Had he done so, he could have informed Romeo that Juliet was alive, thus he could have prevented
Romeo s death. Also, Friar Lawrence did not physically stop Juliet s suicide; he simply said Come,
come away... I ll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of nuns (V. iii. 154 157), and ran away. Had he
not been so hasty, he could have realized that the consequences of being caught trespassing are less
punitive than those of abandoning Juliet. In fact, Friar Lawrence knew that if he abandoned Juliet, she
likely would have committed suicide, because she threatened to so in the past ...And with this knife I ll
help it presently (IV. i. 54). Furthermore, he planned on solving the family feud with the marriage ...To
turn your household s rancour to pure love (II. iii. 92), but he did not make any arrangements to
inform Montague and Capulet that he married Romeo and Juliet; he simply disappeared. Had he
explained the situation to Montague and Capulet, at any time before the catastrophe, they would have
trusted the friar, a holy man who everyone respected, and they would have hopefully dissolved their
family feud. They did so in the end after the friar was forced to explain (V. iii). In brief, Friar
Lawrence should have been more proactive, and he should have stepped in at the right time. Friar
Lawrence meant well, but as an adult, he had to take responsibility for his actions. As an adult, he
should have thought things through, and he should have used any means necessary to

accounting gives me the opportunity to use my skills. I want to become a senior accountant and carry

industry, it will give me a better edge when I go and work for Ernst and Young this summer. The
forces I will be discussing are women in accounting, deskilling labour, globalisation and data to
decision making. The face of the accounting profession is changing, there are a growing number of
females entering the accounting industry. Previously it retained the image of a male dominated
industry; recently there has been a skew that is noticeably female with women now making up 42% of
the industry according to the NZICAAccording to the New Zealand Institute of Chartered
Accountants, the number of women in accounting has risen by 5% in 2012 and is forecasted to grow.
Female accountants are paid less than men according to the New Zealand Institute of Chartered
Accountants. In 2013, NCIA reported that on average there is a 26% income difference between men
and women . This can be accredited to the reason that well paying jobs like accountants allow

Comparing Haiti And Haiti
Living on an island with two third world countries; the Dominican Republic and Haiti, I ve seen
firsthand the major differences between both of them. The Dominican Republic has evolved from a
Spanish colony, while Haiti was originally French. Throughout the years, Haiti has become known for
suffering from poverty, misery, and distress. Pauperism has become a huge issue for the Haitians and
prosperity of the country as a whole due to a lack of health, education, and social services. Back in
2014 and 2015, the school I used to attend in the Dominican Republic organized trips to orphanages in
Haiti. 80 percent of the 32 000 orphans across the 760 orphanages have parents who want them, but
they are not able to support their children. The organized trips were crucial in forming me as a caring
and loving person. Before, I wouldn t have been able to imagine how heart breaking watching these
starving, cheerless children would be. I always visualized kids as playful, blissful, and joyful
creatures. However, looking at the Haitian orphans I realized how cruel reality can be to people. It was
the first time I ve faced such conditions, and I strongly rejected the fact who there are people in the

The Impact of Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Macroeconomic...
THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC
PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the
Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised
world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset
or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign
exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is
therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In every country of the world, exchange rate level is the paramount target of economic policy
targeting. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term
equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments
equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started
operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that
the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered
consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign
currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange.
Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and
even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government
of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier
foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and
currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995.
The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms
to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. This has further led to difficulty in

Liam Goldsworthy What are electrons, protons and neutrons made of? Essay
Everything that exists in the world is made up of atoms, from the asteroids that float around in space
to the very cells inside a human body. Atoms are everywhere and that s because atoms make up
everything. Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons, each element has different amount
of protons, neutrons and electrons. For instance one Helium atom has two protons, two neutrons and
two electrons. Helium is an extremely stable element so there are no variations such as ions or
isotopes. So we know that atoms make up everything in the universe and atoms are made up of

Electrons are known to fall into orbits or energy levels. These orbits are not visible like the orbit of a
planet or celestial body. The reason is that atoms are so small and the best microscopes can only view
so much of atoms at that scale. Even if we could view electrons they would move too fast for the
human eye. We can only estimate where the electrons are, that is why the modern model of the atoms
has an electron cloud surrounding the nucleus of an atom instead of a set orbit. Electrons are classed
under as fermions seen in diagram 3, as far as we know electrons have no internal structure instead
they are oscillations of the electron field or quantum field

The dramatic and uplifting movie Radio starring Cuba Gooding JR. and Ed Harris, is based on the true
life story of James Robert Kennedy, a k a Radio; a mentally retarded young African American who
spends his days pushing a shopping cart around the streets of Anderson, a small South Carolina town,
collecting junk and old radios.
The movie starts with the heartbreaking scene of Radio pushing his cart around the town, in his own

opposite sidewalk. Every day Radio walks by the school, watching the football team training. While

face while he was doing that was greater than when he received the presents. Through this action
Radio teaches an amazing lesson of giving, loving, and selflessness. After his mother dies, Radio is

Social Injustice In Antigone
In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public?
As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many
social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight
for their rights, but not without considering the consequences.
Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as
seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her
plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you
come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy
during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in
the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree without
considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating
Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness:
your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity
and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of
consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment when protesting
Creon s decree.

The Bull-Leaping Art Analysis
The size of the left work, The Bull Leaping, is 30.8 x 41.1 (78.2cm x 104.5cm). And the size of
Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game is 21 7/8 x 13 3/8 (55.5cm x 34cm). The Bull Leaping is bigger
than the other one. While the left one has various color and the subject matters have the color, the right
one has only two color which is red and black. Since the artist described two figures with black paint
on the bright background, the artist used the negative space technique. Both artworks are expressed
humans, and they are playing a game.
In the artwork, The Bull Leaping, there is a bull on the center and tree protagonists. Two of
protagonists are women which one is in front of the bull, and the other one is behind the bull. The
other one has dark skin and is vaulting or leaping on the bull. The artist did not put the setting, but
there is a pattern as if a frame. From Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game, there are two soldiers

Analyzing Different Acting Styles of the Great Acting...
Throughout the past semester, we in Acting 2 have studied the different techniques and methods of
acting adopted by the great teachers. From Stanislavsky to Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg to Michael
Chekov, we have learned the many different views of what makes a good actor. While outside class we
read about these techniques and took notes on their specifics, in class, we participated in workshops in
order to get a true understanding of their ideals. This way, we could actually see which seemed to
work for us and which did not. Different styles seemed to work for different people, on a purely
individual basis. Through these studies and experiments, we were able to understand the differences in
the techniques and the pros and cons of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aside from script analysis, Stanislavsky also suggests using some of your own memories to invoke a
desired reaction, but making sure to keep it separate from the character. He also often used action
verbs in order to understand a character s objectives; instead of saying a character is asking in a given
scene, it is much more effective to say a character is prodding or penetrating or even plunging . These
types of words can invoke a much clearer and real response. In our workshop for Stanislavsky, we
focused on a warm up technique he used that revolved around relaxation. Relaxation, according to
Stanislavsky, is the best way to focus both our minds and bodies so that we are prepared to employ the
highest amount of concentration on a scene. Therefore, for our workshop, after dimming the lights, we
all laid on the floor. First, we went through our bodies relaxing every muscle as we went. I found that I
was tense in areas I never even realized. After this, we, led by Anjalee, journeyed on a type of out of
body experience as we attempted to both see and hear the world on a large scale, which required great
concentration. This concentration was only heightened due to the relaxation exercises we had just
undergone. Personally, I found the relaxation and the concentration techniques very successful, but
only for being relaxing and heightening concentration. I still do not quite see how they truly would
help my acting.

A Child With Developmental Delays
When Mia was only two years old, her parents noticed that she was not up to speed with other
children her age. This discovery led her to the genetics department at A.I. DuPont Children s Hospital.
For a child with developmental delays, I only saw that she lit up the room with her energy and friendly
nature, which made me fall in love with her as she explored the room. While the counselor consulted
her parents, Mia continued to come up to me and grab my hands, something that she apparently did
quite frequently. During the appointment, her mother began to cry, worried that she may have
inadvertently caused Mia s condition during pregnancy. Her father had concerns that his first child
may never be able to live a normal life and have children of her own. The counselor eased the parents
concerns by educating them on her syndrome and basic genetics as well as getting them in contact
with a support group for children with the same syndrome. Mia and her family went home well
informed and in good spirits despite the devastating news they received. This family is a prime

Racial Profiling And Law Enforcement
Lizette Cervantes
Mr. Allman
1st Period
1 March 2015
Racial Profiling in Law Enforcement The topic racial profiling is an ongoing debate that is currently
being argued in America. Before being able to help understand the faults of racial profiling, one must
know what it is. According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling in law enforcement is
commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race,
ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Racial brutality tends to be an outcome of
most racial profiling cases. Racial profiling will usually be most casually seen in traffic stops. Not
only does racial profiling make police officers hypocrites for not protecting, and causing distress to,
the society they sworn to abide to, but it also makes them breach the constitution of the United States
of America. Racial profiling is an unethical, biased, and unconstitutional practice in law enforcement.
As stated previously, one must have a good understanding of racial profiling and the topics being
further discussed. Beginning with the confusion of thinking racial profiling relates someone to being a
racist. Racially profiling someone does not make a person, in this case a police officer, a racist. The
actions the police officer takes towards profiling racially is what makes them a racist. For example,
one has to ask if the profile was based purely on racial prejudice which is having a negative attitude
toward

History of Paper
The first historical mention of paper is 104 A.D. in China. The Empress of China at that time loved
books and wanted to have a lot of them made. At the time everything was written on silk scrolls which
were extremely expensive and time consuming to make. She wanted something cheaper and easier to
use and so she asked one of her servants, a gentleman by the name of Tsi Lun to come up with an
alternative. He worked for over nine years experimenting with different things and finally came up
with hemp, mulberry tree bark, silk and old fishing nets all ground up into a mushy pulp. I wonder
how he ever thought of it; the history books don t say. The Empress was very pleased and Tsi Lun was
elevated to a high rank in the court. Unfortunately for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in literacy in the 18 th century and the resultant explosion of print caused a rag shortage
for making paper and research began to find an alternative source of fibers from which to make paper.
The industry, unfortunately, turned toward trees which were rather abundant at the time but getting
rather scarce today because of our love of the use of paper. The reason trees were choosen was their
cellulose content. Cellulose is actually the stuff out of which paper is formed. All plant matter has
cellulose fiber. Some more so than others. Trees have a lot of cellulose.
Why Cellulose? Cunously, the answer lies in the molecular structure of cellulose and water. It is a very
interesting story that borders on magic and wizardry. Water molecules have one large proton and two
little electrons. You could think of an image like a Mickey Mouse head with two ears and you will
have an image of a water molecule. Water molecule electrons have the habit of chaining together on
the surface of water, which causes an effect called surface tension. You could imagine a series of
Mickey Mouse heads joined together at their ears and you will have a picture of how this works. This
chaining process is the key to making paper. Cellulose fibers have one large proton and one electron
with a place on the proton for another electron to chain in (a Mickey Mouse head with only one ear).
When cellulose is suspended in water the water molecules do not discriminate against

Why Athens Lost Battle
Imagine transporting back to 415 BC in Athens, Greece. What would it be like? Well, it would not be
what was expected. Picture men, women, and children sick and dying crawling into the sewer systems
in the streets. People starving because there were no supplies left over from the war. At this time the
Athenians had just experienced the plague and were on the verge of losing the Peloponnesian war.
Though, their downfall as an empire did not come until after they lost fifty thousand soldiers in their
expedition to Sicily. This act alone would be the cause of their downfall as an empire. The Athenian
expedition to Sicily was supposed to lift their spirits, but because they were misguided by their
generals, it caused them to go blindly into battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything leading up to them going into battle is what caused the Athenians to go thoughtlessly into
the encounter. One of the most influential parts of the agreement was that they were supposed to get
paid and were told that it was an easy battle, but that led them to believe that there was nothing to care
about. The information they were told however, was not entirely true and their hope of reclaiming land
was exceedingly high, that they concluded that this idea for war was a good thing. Unfortunately, the
Athenians were, ignorant of the size of the island and the number of its inhabitants (Bagnall 201).
Also, in addition to them being ignorant of the size of the island, they did not realize that they were
taking on a war of the same magnitude as their war against the Peloponnesians (Bagnall 201).
Furthermore, their generals were not able to agree on what to do, and the soldiers rushed onto shore
without any directions or strategies to guide them. Their generals had a great deal to do with the fact
of their soldiers failing to invade and win this battle. They did not think to plan any well thought out
strategies before sending their troops into battle. Nobody did anything to help guide them along the
way. The fact that they mindlessly went into battle was the most catastrophic part of the war. All of
these factors went hand in hand and is what brought the destruction of this city upon

John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Summary
Critical Analysis Short Essay
John Winthrop: A Model of Christian Charity (City Upon a Hill)
John Winthrop s 1630 sermon, A Model of Christian Charity is one of the first examples of early
American exceptionalism . (Noll, 2012) In his sermon, Winthrop (1630) talks about how the citizens
in colonial America should set a good example for others, and obey God, as they are looked up to by
non Americans. This concept of America being chosen, or somehow unique in a divine manner was
the fundamental meaning of American exceptionalism to Puritan society. In his 2012 article for the

Not to mention that the United States was not nearly as diverse as it is today. This is would give
Winthrop a completely different view of what imperialism would look like, and how it would be

to come from modern politicians, who clearly have a very different understanding of what imperialism
means. Although some do certainly see Winthrop as an early American imperialist, others do agree
with Litke for a variety of reasons. Noll (2012) argues that there was little in the way of American
ideals being spread throughout the world in Winthrop s sermon. Like Litke (2012), Noll (2012) agrees
that the sermon had much more of a focus on colonial American

Notes On Phenotypic Plasticity And Local Adaptation
Phenotypic Plasticity
Phenotypic plasticity is when a genotype of an organism displays different phenotypes due to the
conditions of the environment. It is important to understand why different organisms respond
differently to changes in the environment and the ways they adapt to these changes. This paper
focuses on whether these adaptations are due to either phenotypic plasticity or local adaptation. Since
nothing is ever perfect, the paper also concentrates on the constraints of phenotypic plasticity which
are divided into two; costs and limits. Costs of phenotypic plasticity would be that which would lead
to reduced fitness. In contrast, the limit of plasticity is where the traits produced by plasticity is not at
an optimal level. The effects of plasticity in a population is also discussed. Since phenotypic plasticity
can be measured at different levels, this paper would focus mainly on the individual phenotypic
plasticity.
Introduction
Environmental adaptation, which occurs when there is a change in the environment leading to
modifications that allow the organisms in that environment adapt to those changes over time, can be
characterized into two levels; selection and phenotypic plasticity. Selection happens when an allele is
more favorable in an environment, its frequency increases over time but when it is unfavorable, its
frequency decreases. When a genotype of an organism displays different phenotypes due to the
conditions of

Strategies Of Improving Increase Reading Comprehension
Strategies of improving prosody in order to increase reading comprehension has been a concept in
which I have been struggling with in order to better assist my first grade students. I began this process
thinking that I needed to have the students look at the punctuation and text features within the text, as
well as the pictures to better assist them with their understanding of the text. I feel as though many
students rush to complete the readings quickly without an understanding of the words that are being
read. I have begun to realize that the students are familiar with testing for the rate of fluency so often
that I need to address other reasons for reading and the strategies that should be implemented before
they begin reading the text. While I understand the importance of reading with automaticity and the
skill development involved with addressing punctuation, reading with expression and meaning should
also be a focus of reading development. During my research, I realized the topic of prosody needs to
be clearly defined, although its importance to reading comprehension is unclear. I have also come to
the realization that the methods I am implementing within the classroom are consistent with current
literacy research. This research includes both traditional and new literacy methods. Most literacy
educators consider fluency to be a critical component of reading development. Reading with fluency is
important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and

Native American Critical Thinking Essay
The article that I had read was about the many things originally thought of Native Americans and the
New World. It then speaks of what was actually true about the whole ordeal. The first thing that
surprised me was the Cahokia tribe of the Mississippi. I had always heard about the fairly advanced
Native American tribes in the Mississippi River region, but never has it been explained in great detail
to show their true greatness. What surprised me the most is that the population of the Cahokia was so
huge in the region as well as the great mounds that were built. The Great Sun, who was the leader of
the Cahokia, also was treated as if he must ve been an Egyptian Pharaoh. The Europeans thought that
the Native Americans were a savage people who didn t deserve to be the true inhabitants of the New

Rigby and Bilodeau (2015) reported in Bain s Management tools and trends survey that BSC ranked
the top six worlds most popular tools of 2014. It also achieved high satisfaction among executives. It

North America (39%) and Latin America (39%) and lower usage in APAC (28%). The BSC is widely
used in all types of companies including businesses, non profit companies and government

their key success factors and operation mode.
The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of
performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company s
overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using
these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different

images appear in order and overlay the first image, or else an interface may look as an incomplete
object to the user. If images are positioned behind or in front of text, then the whole interface will not
be able to be seen. Therefore GUI should appear in front of text on the desktop and not behind
existing images on the desktop. Furthermore if the positioning of the objects has not been precisely
arranged then the GUI or parts of the GUI may not appear behind the main screen. This leads to the
user not being able to access the full range of commands. Another thing is the

Causes Of Crime Rate
As of recently in the criminal justice system, crime rates have seemingly begun to exponentially
increase as the years pass by. Recently, a report compiled by the Congressional Research Service
shows that the federal prison population has jumped from 25,000 to 219,000 inmates since the 1980 s
(Biron, n.d.). Because of the many reasons behind this exponential increase in crime, many
correctional facilities across the country are experiencing overcrowding. Since prisons and jails are
unable to handle this rise in crime, many communities are having to resort to other means of punishing
those who choose to defy the law.
Over the years, researchers have found that there are five main factors that have caused the crime rate
to rise dramatically over the past thirty years. The first factor behind the dramatic increase in crime is
the increased use of mandatory sentencing. Mandatory sentencing has increased incarceration rates by
having people serve a minimum sentence for certain felony crimes such as domestic violence,
burglary and some drug possession charges ( Theories of Punishment and Mandatory Minimum , n.d.).
Because of mandatory sentencing, the thought of having the offender behind bars pretty much
becomes inevitable in sentencing as these polices have eliminated the ability of judges to tailor
judicial responses to each circumstance (Biron, n.d.). The second reason behind the rising crime rate is
the use of three strikes rulings. In California, offenders who receive a third

Frankenstein And A Modern Prometheus
MJ DeMarco, author and entrepreneur, related choices in life to hitting a golf ball. If the club is
rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges further
away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first the change
is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely
transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad
choice can set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is
magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good choice, ends up being
a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in Frankenstein or A Modern
Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will. The choice to pursue
knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. In
Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to illuminate and connect
the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge.
The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge by
forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in Walton s
first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley 11) Walton

Brain Ischemia Essay
The blood brain barrier (BBB) is a metabolic and physical barrier between the central nervous system
and the brain blood flow (1). The correct functioning of the BBB is crucial for keeping brain
homeostasis and avoiding many poisons and pathogens (2). During cerebral ischemia, BBB disruption
is a crucial event that induces an influx of water, resulting in vasogenic edema (3), and causes
supplementary brain harm such as dementia through accumulation of beta amyloid peptide (4). Brain
edema aggravates the development of infarct development and causes herniation and loss of life (5). It
s been reported that reactive oxygen species (ROS) exert deleterious activities, such as BBB
disruption and BBB hyperpermeability, during vasogenic edema (6). ... Show more content on

Furthermore, inhibition of ROS protects TJs against disruption during brain damage (8). Furthermore,
amelioration of ischemia induced BBB disruption and brain edema in addition has been shown by
using diet antioxidants such as olive leaf extract and ginkgo biloba extract (9, 10). Matricaria
chamomilla can be an aroma herb with anticancer, antioxidant, and anti inflammatory properties (11),
is an important source of dietary antioxidants (12). Various studies show that matricaria chamomilla is
associated with several health advantages such as antioxidants (13), and cancer (14). However, to the
best of our knowledge, little is well known about the result of matricaria chamomilla extract on BBB
dysfunction during brain ischemia. In the present study, we looked into whether matricaria
chamomilla extract has beneficial results on brain ischemia induced edema and BBB dysfunction in
mice. The possible root systems are also looked into, especially those from the antioxidant
ramifications of the matricaria chamomilla

  • 2. Vitamin C Essay A question that is commonly asked when receiving a virus is, what is the fastest way to get rid of it? No human enjoys the presence of a common cold, despite more extreme terms such as the flu. Rest and fluids are typically the first reaction to curing a common cold. Then, medicine that is categorized toward the symptoms is received. Although, how do you speed up the process? Many think that the intake of large doses of vitamin c can speed up or potentially get rid of the cold all together. Vitamin C is very essential to our bodies. Vitamin C helps the body to maintain its collective tissues. This also includes our bones, blood vessels, and skin. Vitamin C is scientifically known as L ascorbic acid. The vitamin is a water soluble vitamin that can be found in several fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C can also be found as a dietary supplement. It is essential for our bodies to have some source of vitamin C intake. Vitamin C is required for the biosynthesis of collagen, L carnitine, and certain neurotransmitters; vitamin C is also involved in protein metabolism. Collagen is an essential component of connective tissue, which plays a vital role in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an important physiological antioxidant [3] and has been shown to regenerate other antioxidants within the body, including alpha tocopherol (vitamin E). (1) The overall body intake for vitamin C runs to a high of 2g. Lower amounts of vitamin C can be found in areas such as eyes, pituitary gland, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Should Be Allowed In Court Cases Beside jurisdictional questions, I think we have three main arguments on the injunction fee s issue. They are 1) the motion is not timely, 2) the statute does not allow for fees to be placed upon the State, 3) the injunction was not improperly granted. I would start off by mentioning that Idbeis v. Wichita Surgical Specialists, P.A., 285 Kan. 485, 488, 173 P.3d 642, 646 (2007) does appear to be the main case in this area of law, and beside Idbeis most of the other cases tend to be older, so some areas of this topic do not seem to be covered well. I would also note that if fees were to be awarded, they would only be able to get fees related to attempts to overturn the injunction and so say fees that were done for the general case would not apply. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... § 60 905, provides that a party seeking an injunction post a surety. This surety according to the statute is used to pay damages. The State though is not required to pay a surety and I believe there is an argument to be made that damages can only come for sureties. I would first mention that there is a case that does somewhat counter this idea. Brady, 25 Kan. App. At 795 96. In Brady, the Court of Appeals did imposed fees on a party that did not post a bond, because the court did not requirement them to do so. Id. The Court did indicate that the State may need to post a surety, but this was dicta as the State did not play a role in the case. I should note that attorney fees can only be required if there is a clear and specific statutory provision. Idbeis, 285 Kan. at 488. The Kansas Supreme Court has indicated that a party was entitled to recover if a bond was present. Alder v. City of Florence, 194 Kan. 104, 111, 397 P.2d 375, 381 (1964). Furthermore, the Court has also indicated that the bond itself it the source of damages. Texas Const. Co. v. Hoisting Portable Engineers Local Union No. 101, 180 Kan. 393, 396, 304 P.2d 498, 500 (1956). An early Kansas case also found that a party could not recover in an amount higher than the bound. Baker v. Craig, 127 Kan. 811, 275 P. 216, 217 modified, 128 Kan. 676, 280 P. 771 (1929). I think there is an argument to be made that because the statute does not require Kansas to post a bond, that there is no source for damages to be paid under the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The egocentric self takes on the idea that each individual, as an aware and distinct person, is responsible for their actions. As such, the individual possesses intrinsic qualities such as generosity, integrity, or beauty. However, for the sociocentric self, no individual possesses the intrinsic qualities; generosity, integrity, or beauty can only apply to social situations (i.e. rather than the man is generous, for the egocentric self, the sociocentric self would see he gives money to his friends ). Provide one reason why anthropologists prefer to use the ethnographic method. To avoid bias that can emerge from an armchair approach, anthropologists can conduct their own research through the ethnographic method and collect vital information through surveys and questionnaires themselves in the ethnographic method. Participant observation allows for in depth immersion in the lives of the particular group to understand the meanings these people ascribe to their existence, allowing the anthropologist to see others from their point of view. Identify and briefly explain two challenges in doing fieldwork. Fieldwork requires funding and permission; anthropologists require sponsorship from the government or other external benefactors. • 5. Marx Weber and Durkheim on Religion Essays A religion can be seen as a unified system of beliefs and practices which are relative to sacred things and beliefs (Giddens 1972, p.224). It can shape ones thoughts and feelings and gives people a sense of hope and something to believe in. All three main sociologist writers Karl Marx, Max Weber and Emile Durkheim offer different perspectives on religion and how important it is to society. Some of the theorists chose to have a positive view whilst others argue the unimportance of religion. This essay attempts to discover which theorist has the most accurate perspective of religion in modern times. This is done by firstly explaining the basic ideas regarding to religion put forward by Marx, Weber and Durkheim. Then both Marx s and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Marx, religion can be seen as the opiate of the people (Engels, Marx 1955, p.41). Here, Marx is suggesting that just like opium, religion is trying to relieve people of the pain and suffering in their lives. Marx also puts forward the idea that religion is used by its oppressors in order to make people feel better about their lives. Thus, it can be seen that Marx chooses to adopt a negative view of religion. Max Weber can be seen as the only sociologist to place so much scope and emphasis on the subject of religion (Nisbet, p.250). Biographical and textual evidence suggests that biblical religion played a part in shaping and influencing Weber s life and the context of his sociology. Weber s main concern was to attempt to demonstrate that religious ideologies were not mechanically connected to the economic structure of society, however it does shape individuals behavior and actions in everyday life (Swingewood 1984, p.152). Weber also came to several conclusions regarding the remarkable relationship between capitalism and Protestant. According to Weber, the more capitalism had a free hand to alter social distribution, the larger the relationship between capitalism and protestant (1930, p.4). Overall, it can be seen that the three main sociology theorists differ greatly when it comes to ideas regarding to religion. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd The Secret Life Of Bees, written by Sue Monk Kidd, should be considered a classic because of its unique way of relating the characters and the story line to the reader s emotions and to history. In The Secret Life Of Bees and all books descriptive detail and skillful writing is crucial. The principle reason this story is a classic is because of how Sue Monk Kidd was able to use a metaphor throughout the entire story. Bees represent society and life and without help from other bees and the queen bee, the hive dies an incredible and unique way to show the readers the importance of appreciating life. It says ¨... uniquely suited to helping us to the rhythms and habits of daily life...¨ , just like Italo Calvino said classics need to have a way of influencing and relating to readers, this article says it is necessary for classics to be able to teach readers something by bringing them into the story. The passage I recognized those ideas in the novel of The Secret Life Of Bees was when August and Lily were taking care of the bees. That section of the book intrigued me and added to my life because of the dialogue, setting, and mood. The Last Mohicans Conflict Essay Conflicts in The Last Mohicans From the first chapter in James Fenimore Cooper s Leatherstocking Tale The Last Mohicans the evidence of extreme conflict between multiple parties is glaringly obvious. The struggle between the wilderness of the American country and those who endeavored to tame it, the clash between the French and the Colonials/British over the new world territory, the emulation between the various tribes of Indians, and the conflict between the main heroes and villains of the story are all very prevalent in this historic novel. The bloodiest conflict of these was the massacre after the fall of Fort William Henry. The initial conflict that sparked the slaughter after the British had surrendered and abandoned the fort was that between an Indian from the Heron tribe, (They are allies of the French), and a mother with a baby leaving the fort. The inhabitants of the fort had been allowed to leave in a procession, but the gaudy colors of a shawl (180) attracted the eye of a young Heron. He tried to seize it from the mother and when she held it away, he took her babe instead. She then attempted to give the shawl to him, but now uncaring, he dashed the head of the baby against a rock and killed the mother with a tomahawk. Then the Herons leapt upon the previous occupants of the fort and killed them, scalped them, and drank their blood. ...many among them even kneeled to the earth, and drank freely, exultingly, hellishly, of the crimson tide (182). In describing this, Cooper shows the brutal nature of some of the Indians and what happens in the conflicts between them and their enemies. Also the French did not try to stop this act, so it is perceived that they knew about it and it was planned along. This is proof of the hatred of the French against the English, by using their Indian allies to commit this act of terror. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Friar Lawrence Is Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and... In the Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence was a monk, and a counselor, who came up with intricate plots and concocted a seemingly magical elixir in order to solve problems that the lovers encountered. Friar Lawrence had a profound impact on the outcome of this Shakespearean play; however, in a way that led to catastrophe. There are many factors that caused the deaths of the lovers, but two of the most important were how Friar Lawrence disregarded his own logic, and how he missed numerous opportunities to save the lovers. First of all, Friar Lawrence explicitly knew better than to do many of the things he did. First, he should not have agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet so quickly. Romeo wanted to marry Juliet after ... The Dominican Republic has evolved from a Spanish colony, while Haiti was originally French. Throughout the years, Haiti has become known for suffering from poverty, misery, and distress. Pauperism has become a huge issue for the Haitians and prosperity of the country as a whole due to a lack of health, education, and social services. Back in 2014 and 2015, the school I used to attend in the Dominican Republic organized trips to orphanages in Haiti. 80 percent of the 32 000 orphans across the 760 orphanages have parents who want them, but they are not able to support their children. The organized trips were crucial in forming me as a caring and loving person. Before, I wouldn t have been able to imagine how heart breaking watching these starving, cheerless children would be. I always visualized kids as playful, blissful, and joyful creatures. However, looking at the Haitian orphans I realized how cruel reality can be to people. THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange. Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995. The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. For instance one Helium atom has two protons, two neutrons and two electrons. Helium is an extremely stable element so there are no variations such as ions or isotopes. We can only estimate where the electrons are, that is why the modern model of the atoms has an electron cloud surrounding the nucleus of an atom instead of a set orbit. Antigone is unhappy during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in the town square. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Racial Profiling And Law Enforcement Lizette Cervantes Mr. Allman 1st Period 1 March 2015 Racial Profiling in Law Enforcement The topic racial profiling is an ongoing debate that is currently being argued in America. Before being able to help understand the faults of racial profiling, one must know what it is. According to the National Institute of Justice, racial profiling in law enforcement is commonly defined as a practice that targets people for suspicion of crime based on their race, ethnicity, religion or national origin ( Racial Profiling ). Racial brutality tends to be an outcome of most racial profiling cases. Racial profiling will usually be most casually seen in traffic stops. Not only does racial profiling make police officers hypocrites for not protecting, and causing distress to, the society they sworn to abide to, but it also makes them breach the constitution of the United States of America. Racial profiling is an unethical, biased, and unconstitutional practice in law enforcement. As stated previously, one must have a good understanding of racial profiling and the topics being further discussed. Beginning with the confusion of thinking racial profiling relates someone to being a racist. Racially profiling someone does not make a person, in this case a police officer, a racist. The actions the police officer takes towards profiling racially is what makes them a racist. An increase in literacy in the 18 th century and the resultant explosion of print caused a rag shortage for making paper and research began to find an alternative source of fibers from which to make paper. The industry, unfortunately, turned toward trees which were rather abundant at the time but getting rather scarce today because of our love of the use of paper. The reason trees were choosen was their cellulose content. Cellulose is actually the stuff out of which paper is formed. All plant matter has cellulose fiber. Some more so than others. Trees have a lot of cellulose. Why Cellulose? Cunously, the answer lies in the molecular structure of cellulose and water. It is a very interesting story that borders on magic and wizardry. Water molecules have one large proton and two little electrons. You could think of an image like a Mickey Mouse head with two ears and you will have an image of a water molecule. Water molecule electrons have the habit of chaining together on the surface of water, which causes an effect called surface tension. You could imagine a series of Mickey Mouse heads joined together at their ears and you will have a picture of how this works. This chaining process is the key to making paper. Cellulose fibers have one large proton and one electron with a place on the proton for another electron to chain in (a Mickey Mouse head with only one ear). When cellulose is suspended in water the water molecules do not discriminate against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Why Athens Lost Battle Imagine transporting back to 415 BC in Athens, Greece. What would it be like? Well, it would not be what was expected. Picture men, women, and children sick and dying crawling into the sewer systems in the streets. People starving because there were no supplies left over from the war. At this time the Athenians had just experienced the plague and were on the verge of losing the Peloponnesian war. Though, their downfall as an empire did not come until after they lost fifty thousand soldiers in their expedition to Sicily. This act alone would be the cause of their downfall as an empire. The Athenian expedition to Sicily was supposed to lift their spirits, but because they were misguided by their generals, it caused them to go blindly into battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything leading up to them going into battle is what caused the Athenians to go thoughtlessly into the encounter. One of the most influential parts of the agreement was that they were supposed to get paid and were told that it was an easy battle, but that led them to believe that there was nothing to care about. The information they were told however, was not entirely true and their hope of reclaiming land was exceedingly high, that they concluded that this idea for war was a good thing. Unfortunately, the Athenians were, ignorant of the size of the island and the number of its inhabitants (Bagnall 201). Also, in addition to them being ignorant of the size of the island, they did not realize that they were taking on a war of the same magnitude as their war against the Peloponnesians (Bagnall 201). Furthermore, their generals were not able to agree on what to do, and the soldiers rushed onto shore without any directions or strategies to guide them. Their generals had a great deal to do with the fact of their soldiers failing to invade and win this battle. They did not think to plan any well thought out strategies before sending their troops into battle. Nobody did anything to help guide them along the way. The fact that they mindlessly went into battle was the most catastrophic part of the war. All of these factors went hand in hand and is what brought the destruction of this city upon ... In a historic night for the city of Cleveland, cheers for the Tribe could be heard from Quicken Loans Arena, where the Cleveland Cavaliers received their 2016 NBA Championship rings and explosively opened their season against the New York Knicks. If the Cavs success is any indication of what s to come, I think Cleveland might actually explode. Lucky enough for us, Cubs ace Jon Lester wasn t on top of his game either, allowing the Indians to score some key runs. Cubs fans everywhere have got to be a little worried, especially as the Indians continued to show their rock solid defense and excellent bullpen rotation. Tonight s game, however, could be a different story. The Cubs are sending Jake Arrieta to the mound against Trevor Bauer, and I absolutely hate that matchup. Bauer is a loose cannon, who easily loses his temper and gets in funks. Quite frankly, I m not confident in his ability to win Game 2. Emilia begins as Desdemona s assistant and as Iago s wife. The marriage that the two share is considerably bad. The effect for their terrible marriage allows Emilia and Desdemona to bond over their husbands. Iago is the villain of this story, but Emilia doesn t share the same antagonistic goals. In the entirety of the play, she doesn t attempt to stray any of the other characters into doing wrong. Even though she does give the key handkerchief to Iago, she does not know about the plot he has created. Emilia does not share the same ideas of men as Desdemona. The idea that men are only interested in sexual activities comes from the shoddy relationship that is her marriage. Emilia describes her relationship by saying I nothing but to please his fantasy. John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Summary Critical Analysis Short Essay John Winthrop: A Model of Christian Charity (City Upon a Hill) John Winthrop s 1630 sermon, A Model of Christian Charity is one of the first examples of early American exceptionalism . (Noll, 2012) In his sermon, Winthrop (1630) talks about how the citizens in colonial America should set a good example for others, and obey God, as they are looked up to by non Americans. This concept of America being chosen, or somehow unique in a divine manner was the fundamental meaning of American exceptionalism to Puritan society. • 34. Notes On Phenotypic Plasticity And Local Adaptation Phenotypic Plasticity Phenotypic plasticity is when a genotype of an organism displays different phenotypes due to the conditions of the environment. It is important to understand why different organisms respond differently to changes in the environment and the ways they adapt to these changes. This paper focuses on whether these adaptations are due to either phenotypic plasticity or local adaptation. Since nothing is ever perfect, the paper also concentrates on the constraints of phenotypic plasticity which are divided into two; costs and limits. Costs of phenotypic plasticity would be that which would lead to reduced fitness. In contrast, the limit of plasticity is where the traits produced by plasticity is not at an optimal level. The effects of plasticity in a population is also discussed. Since phenotypic plasticity can be measured at different levels, this paper would focus mainly on the individual phenotypic plasticity. Introduction Environmental adaptation, which occurs when there is a change in the environment leading to modifications that allow the organisms in that environment adapt to those changes over time, can be characterized into two levels; selection and phenotypic plasticity. Selection happens when an allele is more favorable in an environment, its frequency increases over time but when it is unfavorable, its frequency decreases. Strategies Of Improving Increase Reading Comprehension Strategies of improving prosody in order to increase reading comprehension has been a concept in which I have been struggling with in order to better assist my first grade students. I began this process thinking that I needed to have the students look at the punctuation and text features within the text, as well as the pictures to better assist them with their understanding of the text. I feel as though many students rush to complete the readings quickly without an understanding of the words that are being read. I have begun to realize that the students are familiar with testing for the rate of fluency so often that I need to address other reasons for reading and the strategies that should be implemented before they begin reading the text. While I understand the importance of reading with automaticity and the skill development involved with addressing punctuation, reading with expression and meaning should also be a focus of reading development. During my research, I realized the topic of prosody needs to be clearly defined, although its importance to reading comprehension is unclear. I have also come to the realization that the methods I am implementing within the classroom are consistent with current literacy research. This research includes both traditional and new literacy methods. Most literacy educators consider fluency to be a critical component of reading development. Reading with fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Native American Critical Thinking Essay The article that I had read was about the many things originally thought of Native Americans and the New World. It then speaks of what was actually true about the whole ordeal. The first thing that surprised me was the Cahokia tribe of the Mississippi. I had always heard about the fairly advanced Native American tribes in the Mississippi River region, but never has it been explained in great detail to show their true greatness. What surprised me the most is that the population of the Cahokia was so huge in the region as well as the great mounds that were built. The Great Sun, who was the leader of the Cahokia, also was treated as if he must ve been an Egyptian Pharaoh. The Europeans thought that the Native Americans were a savage people who didn t deserve to be the true inhabitants of the New World. The BSC is widely used in all types of companies including businesses, non profit companies and government organizations although different companies create their own unique BSC approach corresponding to their key success factors and operation mode. The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company s overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different aspects including the financial, customer, internal business process and learning and growth perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The financial perspective concentrates on financial health of a company, it is the most direct way for executives to measure organization performance. • 40. Causes Of Crime Rate As of recently in the criminal justice system, crime rates have seemingly begun to exponentially increase as the years pass by. Recently, a report compiled by the Congressional Research Service shows that the federal prison population has jumped from 25,000 to 219,000 inmates since the 1980 s (Biron, n.d.). Because of the many reasons behind this exponential increase in crime, many correctional facilities across the country are experiencing overcrowding. Since prisons and jails are unable to handle this rise in crime, many communities are having to resort to other means of punishing those who choose to defy the law. Over the years, researchers have found that there are five main factors that have caused the crime rate to rise dramatically over the past thirty years. The first factor behind the dramatic increase in crime is the increased use of mandatory sentencing. Mandatory sentencing has increased incarceration rates by having people serve a minimum sentence for certain felony crimes such as domestic violence, burglary and some drug possession charges ( Theories of Punishment and Mandatory Minimum , n.d.). Because of mandatory sentencing, the thought of having the offender behind bars pretty much becomes inevitable in sentencing as these polices have eliminated the ability of judges to tailor judicial responses to each circumstance (Biron, n.d.). The second reason behind the rising crime rate is the use of three strikes rulings. In California, offenders who receive a third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the club is rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges further away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad choice can set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good choice, ends up being a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will. The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. In Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to illuminate and connect the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge. The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge by forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge.
