Personal Statement Of Complishments For High School
I have always believed that students who see education with maturity and do their best while in high
school will succeed in their adult careers. As of this moment I am on the A Honor Roll and in the top
50% of my class rank. In my sophomore year I was inducted into the National Honor Society. Since
my sophomore year I have taken two PSEO classes, and throughout high school I have been in the
accelerated English and Math courses. Last spring I earned an ACT Composite score of 26. As a honor
student at the end of my high school career I hope to show that I hold high school records and test
scores with the utmost importance as a responsible high school student.
Extracurricular activities I have been involved in within school include Girls Tennis, Knowledge
Bowl, Speech, Yearbook and Fine Arts productions. Most notably I have been active in the music
department, specifically choir. In my freshman and sophomore year I participated in the Fantasia
Choir, and in my junior and senior year I participated in the Madrigal and Jazz Choir. In all of my
years in the high school I have participated in Large Group Festival in Kerkhoven, Minnesota and
Solo Ensemble in Benson, Minnesota. I have earned two Superior solo ratings, one excellent solo
rating, and one excellent duet rating. This January I will perform at Dorian Music Festival at Luther
College in Decorah, Iowa.
In my sophomore year I earned second place at speech sub sections. I have participated in knowledge

The Role Of Father Vincent Capodanno In The Grunt Padre
The Grunt Padre by Father Daniel Mode is a book that tells about faithful hero Father Vincent
Capodanno. He is a faithful hero because of everything he has done for his faith. Not only was he sent
to be a missionary; he was also a military chaplain during the Vietnam War. Father Capodanno was
very much devoted to his Christian faith. He died as a martyr for his faith. For these reasons, Father
Vincent Capodanno can very much be considered a role model to the Christian faith. Vincent
Capodanno was named after his father. He was born on February 13th of the year 1929. He was born
in Staten Island to an all Italian family. Coming from an all Italian background, his family had brought
Vincent up to be very devoted and faithful to his religion being Christianity. Vincent went through all
years all schooling including college. After college he realized that he wanted to become a priest. In
1958 he was ordained a priest and from then his good acts and faithful ways were to begin. ... Show

A missionary is someone who gets sent to a destination and his/her task is to spread the Christian faith
throughout that place. Vincent was a missionary in Taiwan for several years. He was very devoted to
spreading the Christian faith in Taiwan in order to help children and adults in the area. For Vincent to
go to a place that far from home and staying there for that amount of time takes true devotion. From
him doing this, it shows that he is faithful and is very devoted to his faith. Not everyone would be able

The Pros And Cons Of Eco-Coastline In Hong Kong
Basing argument on whether or not to adopt echo shoreline in Hong Kong; it is pragmatic to state that
eco shoreline should be adopted so that a balance would be reached in the quest to maintain the fauna
and flora, and at the same time enhance human and economic activities along the coastlines. This
process should be adopted in systematical way so that the aquatic life and the natural features along
the coastline could be maintained. Biodiversity should be well understood and adopted in Hong Kong;
this is in line with effective ecological coastlines leading to interdepend ably mutual benefits.
However, constituting ecological coastline in Hong Kong would be a positive strategy towards

I want to have an orderly classroom environment. This leadership style is student centered, but
recognizes that students need guidelines to feel comfortable and that is very important to me. I am
normally the leader that can have fun, but also know how to take authority. I want to practice more of
being balanced because not only will help me become a better responsible leader, but a role model to
the children in the center. A few things I want to work on is building better relationship with the
students and communication with them, make sure I am specific with them directions and expectations
so the classroom will run better and I myself will become a better individual an letter for my
classroom. So, some steps I would take to work more towards this leadership style would be to
analyze what I am doing now (1st month), see what I need to change, then see how my style has effect
the classroom (2nd month), but then I would want to have a discuss with the students (3rd month).
The discussion with the students will allow relationships to develop stronger and for the expectations
to be set for the children. Since, the discussion had taken place I would want make that I am being
organized and that I am holding students responsible for their actions (4th month). The following
month (5th month) would be to make any changing that would benefit yourself and the children are
working together in a positive manner. Then, for myself would be to maintain the new leadership style
and even become better a leader for the children in my classroom (6th month.). I want my students to

Questions On Tax File Memorandum
October 27, 2015 TAX FILE MEMORANDUM FROM Student ID # 646070 SUBJECT Katie and
William Charitable Contribution FACTS Recently, Katie and William had a baby named Georgina.
The couple is very famous and collectively worth $300,000,000. On December 3, 2015, the couple
decided to sell the first photos of their newborn baby for $15,000,000 to a national magazine. Katie
and William plan to donate all of the proceeds to the American Red Cross. They wish to complete this
transaction as soon as possible because the paparazzi has been harassing the family. In 2015, the
couple will have a combined adjusted gross income of $8,000,000, without any proceeds from baby
pictures, and will file jointly. Katie and William are expected to be in a similar taxable income
situation in future years and tax rates are not expected to change. ISSUE What are the tax implications
if the couple sells the photos for $15,000,000 and then claim a charitable contribution deduction on
their 2015 joint tax return? Are there any planning strategies to reduce the tax impact of the
transaction? CONCLUSION Katie and William would first have to recognize the $15,000,000
proceeds from the sale of the photo as income along with the couple s combined adjusted gross
income of $8,000,000 for 2015. They will be limited to deducting only $11,500,000 of their charitable
contribution in 2015 because of the 50 percent limitation of adjusted gross income. The remaining

Homework Controversy
Is homework helpful or harmful?
The homework controversy has been going on for a quiet a long time with no end in sight. Homework
is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or prepare for the future.
Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as a tradition of having
teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers require it and teachers
say s that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign homework to help some
students improve their grade, pass course, re learn the subject you learn in the class, and pass the
course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework be considered helpful or
harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two reasonable subjects.
Especially for the student s athletes or any students who enjoys after school activities, homework hurts
probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be spent on doing more productive
actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary stress.
Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the homework
issues for a while. When a student s falls asleep in class, he or she is unusually is disciplined for it.
The parents of the younger K 12 students are revolting against the reportedly increasing amounts of
homework assigned their children (David) . The parents are not happy about their kids to do

Ten Care Tips
Ten Care Tips for Your T Shirt Creations
You invested your time, your sweat, and your tears into creating the perfect t shirt creation. It doesn t
matter if it s a tie dye creation or a silkscreened masterpiece, you want it to last. Sadly, t shirts are
susceptible to fading, shrinking, cracking, graphic loss, etc. When you wear your shirts, the sun, the
sweat, and other elements speed the deterioration of your tee. Further, the way you wash, dry and store
your shirt plays a huge part in the life of your prized possession.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to preserve your tee and lengthen its lifespan. Consider
these ten care tips:
1. The safest way to wash your shirt is by hand in cold water. This isn t always a practical ... Show

T shirts that are not worn often should not be hung on a hanger. They should be folded and stored in a
box or container. Plastic sleeves are another way to keep your shirts looking their best. At very least,
they should be folded and kept on your shelf or in a dresser drawer.
9. Make a T shirt Folder. An ally in the fight to protect your shirts is the proper fold. You don t want to
run creases through your artwork. A shirt folder is a great way to quickly fold your shirts in a proper
manner. A folder can be purchased or made for a matter of cents from common household materials
(six pieces of 9x12 cardboard and a roll of duct tape). While cereal boxes are a little thin, they are the
right size.
Place the rectangles three wide by two deep about a quarter inch apart. Connect the panels with the
duct tape on the front and the back. The quarter inch of duct tape between the panels will act like
hinges, so make sure they are pressed together well. The folder is now complete.
Lay your shirt face down on the folder vertically with the neck to the top. Fold the right two panels to
the center. Leave the shirt, but pull the panels back. Repeat this move on the left. Fold the panel in the
center bottom up toward the top. You now have a perfectly folded

Arguments Against The Use Of Methicillin
created a somber atmosphere in the medical community, as many of the advancements in the last
decade seemed to be drawing to a close. However, a new derivative of penicillin called methicillin
was created and introduced to the public in 1959 (Ventola, 2015). Not long after, methicillin resistant
staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was found in parts of Europe in 1962 and the United States in 1968.
However, an antibiotic called vancomycin was developed to combat the methicillin resistant strain.
Since scientists found it very difficult to induce vancomycin resistance in a research setting, they
found it highly unlikely to develop in a clinical setting. However, they underestimated the resiliency
of bacteria and by the 1980 s, vancomycin and multi drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way that bacteria transfer their DNA is through vertical transfer which is a scientific name for
transferring genetic material from parent to offspring (Dabnua, 2005). Bacteria are capable of
transferring their DNA asexually, meaning that they do not require a partner to produce an offspring,
and this is done through binary fission. The process of binary fission is when bacterial DNA is
replicated and the cell divides into 2 daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent. Bacteria
containing the antibiotic resistant gene can easily pass this on through binary fission. When conditions
are favorable, such as optimal temperature and nutrients, bacteria can replicate quickly and efficiently,
dividing as fast as every 20 minutes. Another form of DNA transfer is through horizontal transfer.
Horizontal transfer occurs via plasmids through conjugation, transformation and transduction
(Dabnua, 2005). A plasmid is a circular molecule of DNA independent from the bacteria s
chromosomal DNA. It is a double stranded molecule that can replicate independently and normally
only contains genes that may be beneficial to the survival of the bacteria, such as the mecA gene
(Brisse, 2002). Once plasmid replication is complete, it can be transferred from one bacteria to another
through conjugation, transformation and transduction. During the process of conjugation, 2 separate

Mrs. Dalloway, By Virginia Woolf
During World War One, many societal norms were disrupted and thrown aside. Everything was
displaced, including gender roles. With people dying in trenches everyday, a woman s place in the
kitchen became a secondary concern. World War One was a time of progressive change however, this
change was only temporary. Both One of Ours, written by Willa Cather, and Mrs. Dalloway, written
by Virginia Woolf, take place during this era. Despite being set during a time of supposed progress for
women s rights, the roles that women are expected to fulfill in these texts are still
oppressive.Examining these novels, it becomes apparent that the roles of women did not change as a
result of the war. In fact, Enid, in One of Ours, and Mrs. Dalloway, in Mrs. ... Show more content on

The men returned home and soon returned to their original jobs. Marsha Gordon further writes, Once
again using the ploys of patriotism, women were expected to return to pre war standards for women s
labour without questioning the patriarchal ideology behind this assumption (85). The progress of
women s rights ended abruptly when the soldiers came back to resume their old lives. Progressively,
the main thing to come out of World War One for women was the passing of the 19th Amendment in
1920, three years after World War One (Hughes, 1). It wasn t until World War Two that women s roles
truly became redefined.
In the novel One of Ours, Enid Wheeler is a headstrong and determined character, going against
women s traditional roles during the early 1900s. Early on in One of Ours, Enid shows that she does
not uphold the traditional values forced on many women. For instance, when a thunderstorm appears
while Enid and Claude are driving, Claude stops, wanting to wait out the storm. Enid takes the driver s
seat from Claude and maneuvers them through the storm (111 114). Enid is not afraid to step up and
assume a position of authority. Critic Ryan M., writer of No Woman s Land: Gender in Willa Cather s
One of Ours, writes that Enid assumes the active male role, intruding herself into his sickroom,
courting him with flowers, beating him at chess (page ?). By actively seeking Claude out, whether as a
friend or for romantic interest, Enid is

On my way home, I had the same routine, cup of coffee, but this time I would buy a package of donuts

day, 5 days a week was spent at this company which adds up but this was my vise. Needless to say, I
became very comfortable talking to these employees, we joked about politics and I even helped one
employee get a job at Bank of America because I thought she had exceptional customer service skills
and I knew the bank paid well because I have been working for them for the last 12 years. Back in
April of this year, I lost my job. Like many Americans, I am finding it difficult to find a job. I am

George Washington Carver Essay
George Washington Carver
George Washington Carver was born in Diamond Grove, Missouri during the spring of 1864 or 1865.
Like many slaves, he was uncertain of his birth date. His mother, Mary, was a slave who belonged to
Moses and Susan Carver. As an infant, slave raiders kidnapped his mother. The childless carvers
reared George and his older brother, James.
Growing up, George was captivated by plants. Many neighbors referred to him as the Plant Doctor .
Since Carver was an African American, he was not accepted at any local schools, therefore he had to
attend school eight miles away from home. He did very well in school. In 1885 he was accepted to
Highland College in Kansas. However, race became an issue again and they took away the ... Show

As well as creating the Farmers Institute, Carver also helped the farmers of Alabama and the southern
states a great deal. An insect called the boll weevil became an enormous threat to the cotton fields of
southern United States. Carver recommended to these farmers that they should substitute their cotton
crops with sweet potatoes and, the more successful recommendation, peanuts. This switch would
provide farmers another source of income and would also help to prevent the spread of the insect. The
one problem with this solution was that no one knew what to do with all the peanut crops. Carver was
quoted as saying: we can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from the things that
grow. So that is what he did. In total, Carver was able to create close to three hundred different
products from the peanut plant. These wide variety of products include dyes, ink, insulation,
cosmetics, stock feed, medicines, glue, soap, and peanut milk. Although most of his products never
became commercially sold, Carver became widely known as the Peanut Man . He also created nearly
one hundred uses for the sweet potato crops.
Even though George Washington Carver was well known throughout parts of the south, his real rise to
fame started in 1916. Carver was invited to join the Royal Society for the Arts. Shortly afterward, the
Carver Products Company was founded to market his many products. Carver was also honored with
the medal of the National

Sony s and Matsushita s management strategies
As we all known, Sony and Matsushita are two of the largest consumer electronic makers in Japan or
even in the world. And in this reading, it points out the different strategies Sony and Matsushita use
when they were facing the fierce competition in China Matushita was accelerating its pace on
stretching the supply chain in China while Sony unexpectedly decided to shift some of its
manufacturing business in China back to Japan. In this article, I will discuss the reasons that lead them
to make different decision as well as analysize the advantages and the disadvantages of their decision.

And the reason of it was still the cost. Indeed, this former strategices failed to match their product
characteristics with their supply priorities. That is, it cannot minimize their product cost. For example,
using Japanese suppliers before was twenty to thirty percent more empensive than using Chinese
suppliers, not to mention about the trasportation cost. In addition, their original Japanese design was
still increasing the cost in China s factories increase equipment cost cannot make good use of the
cheaper labor cost in China; increase producing cost by designing unnecessary function in China.
According to the reading, it is true that When digital camera and camcorder first appeared on the
market in the early 1900s, Sony only had a few competitors such as Canon and Olympus (49). Thus, it
cannot be denied that Sony can gained a competitve advantage by reducing price, thus Sony placed its
production in China in order to reduce the product s assembly and manufacturing. However, when
more competitors came, this strategices cannot work very well under this new circumstance, because
for high value added products like digital camera and camcorder, company cannot just focus on the
manufacturing cost and minizing cycle time is also attached great importance. The short produce life
cycle requires the company has more flexiable supply chain, otherwise it will increase its inventory
cost. Imagine that if Sony still placed its production in China,

Leadership As A Leader Is A Person Or Thing Who Leads
Introduction If you could in your own words define a leader what would you say a leader was? A
leader could be considered many different things depending on who you ask. According to Merriam
Webster s dictionary a leader is a person or thing who leads. That s a pretty broad definition. Sanjiv
Kumar defines leadership as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of goals (Kumar,
2014). BusinessDictionary.com defines a leader as a person or thing that holds a dominant or superior
position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others.
Leaders can be found in every setting. Examples of leaders include parents, teachers, religious leaders,
managers, or even a band director. Good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A leader in the corporate world may need different characteristics from a leader in the sports field.
This does not mean that some characteristics will not be evident in all leaders. Confidence for example
is almost always a trait in a leader no matter who they are leading or what capacity they are leading in.
So if a leader needs a combination of characteristics that makes them successful is a leader born or
made? The answer is both. Some people already possess the traits that they need to be leaders and are
often leaders from an early age. Some people observe and eventually become leaders. Leadership can
be taught. Over the years many theories about leadership have been developed. These theories include
but are not limited to trait theories, behavioral theories, contingency theories, and functional theories.
Trait theories assume all leaders share a number of common traits. This theory identifies traits or
characteristics that are essential when being a leader. Traits like assertiveness, good decision making,
empathy, integrity, and confidence are some examples of traits of successful leaders; however, there is
no magic combination of traits that will guarantee someone to be a successful leader. Traits are based
on our inner thoughts and beliefs. Many different studies about leadership traits agree only in the
general righteous qualities needed to be a leader. Those traits are known as core traits. The core traits

Rough Play As A Rough Play
Rough Play is known as One of The Most Difficult Behaviors
Many people feel that rough play is one of the most difficult behaviors within small children.
However, young children love this type of physical play. This type of play is usually strong, fierce,
and rugged. This play may be known as the big body play rugged and tumbled play, violent manner, or
play fighting. These forms of play can be seen with other children, they are called by different names
such as King of Mountain, Red Rover, Freeze Tag, Steal the Bacon, Duck Duck Goose and many
more names. Infant children use their bodies to learn. Some of the things infant children do is roll
back and forth, kick their legs, and wave their arms, sometimes when they are alone or sometimes
when they are beside another baby. Another thing that infants do is crawling on top of each other.
When infants get bigger, they use their bodies to stand up, push off, and move themselves forward and
backward. The toddlers yank each other firmly, and shove each other down. When children reach the
preschooler ages, the demonstrate physical ways of connecting and learning to go after a foreseeable
influence of characteristics such as running, casing, fleeing, and dropping to the ground on top of each
other. The young children body play is sometimes lonely. However, the preschooler finds enjoyment
by running around, dancing, and spinning, rolling over the floor and on the ground, and or hopping

What The Best College Students Do By Ken Bain
Failure = Success
When I look at the word failure I didn t see success. But that slowly changed as I read the book What
the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain Chapter four. Bain, for me and I m sure many other, have
changed our view point on failure being a bad thing. He instead expressed failure as an opportunity to
learn something. (121) As infants we grow and develop, we learn to walk by falling down a couple
hundred times, and we learn to speak by babbling. By trying to walk, and trying to talk, we may fail at
first. As an infant, you cannot give up when you are face to face with failure. You must get up and try
again to learn. In the book, What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain he uses people s
experiences and research to explain why failure is an opportunity to learn something new, rather than
seeing failure as something bad. He asserts people who become highly creative and productive learn
to acknowledge failures, even to embrace them, and to explore and learn from them. (100) Failure is
important. If we did not get up and try again as infants, we would not be where we are today.
The main assertion in this chapter is that failure is a life lesson. Failing is constantly unwelcomed in
our lives. When we are unsuccessful we tend not to think, oh this is going to be a great learning
experience. Bain takes a simple approach to explain what good comes out of failure. He uses Group A,
and Group B. In this experiment, there is two different groups one being A

The progress of tuberculosis infected more people over the years. The rate of Inuits being infected
with tuberculosis still continues to be high and has gotten higher, the amount of Inuits infected by
latent tuberculosis has increased, but the rate of latent turning to active tuberculosis has decreased
because some Iqaluit s died from it.(1). Iqaluit has the most case and highest rate of tuberculosis in
Canada(2). The reason why these cases are still high is because the health system is not so great in
Iqaluit and functions very poorly. Because the nurses or doctors in Iqaluit who don t diagnose patients
quickly or a mislead on diagnosis. Also tuberculosis is high in Iqaluit is because the housing is often
overcrowded which would enable the infections to spread by air. Lack of food is also a problem
followed up with security and access to health care are part of the factors why tuberculosis is high in
Iqaluit.(4)

Introduction One of the most famous female superheroes, Black Widow, seems to stir up controversy
among viewers today. Coming from a distressed past, Natasha Romanova was handed over to Russia
to become an assassin. Through her training she required amazing skills, giving her the name Black

Nobody ever listens to a teenager. Everybody thinks you should be happy just because you re young.
They don t see the wars that we fight every single day. And one day, my war will end. And I won t die.
And I will not tolerate abuse from anyone. I am strong. These are the words of one of Erin Gruwell s
Long Beach, California high school students. The actors and actresses of Freedom Writers are Hilary
Swank, April Lee Hernandez, and Patrick Dempsey. They represent Erin Gruwell, Maria Reyes, and
Scott Casey ( Freedom Writers True Story ). The movie Freedom Writers is based on a true story, it is
easy to question how much of the plot is factual when seeing these words. However, almost every
situation contained in the film portrays what actually occurred. In the movie, when the students read
from their diaries, these are the real diaries from the students. Scenes including a Toast for Change ,
Holocaust survivor visits, a trip to the Holocaust museum, specific in class activities, and many more

the film Freedom Writers is gang life and the effects of it on children; there are many lessons to be

Causes Of The Neolithic Revolution
Initiation of the Neolithic Revolution
When considering the most plausible theory for the catalyst that began the Neolithic Revolution, one
must look directly at the changing climate of the region. Approximately 18,000 BC, the earth was
experiencing a climactic transition, brought about by the end of the Last Glacial Maximum. During
this transition the earth began to experience warming temperatures, which dramatically changed the
landscape, and the very existence of the hunter gatherer populations. The oscillating temperatures that
occurred during the next few thousand years help guide the trajectory of development in agriculture
and human societies.
While considering the weather, Barry Cunliffe, author of Europe Between the Oceans states, By about
12,000 BC dense forest covered much of the western part of the hilly flanks region, giving way,
around its borders, to more open areas where extensive stands of wild wheats and ryes could flourish
(91). This period of warmer weather is referred to as the Holocene. The thawing ice sheets also caused
water to rise, and subsequently change not only the structure of the land, but the plant life as well. As
the hunter gatherers adjusted to these changes in their environment, another climactic event ensued
called the Younger Dryas. The Younger Dryas was a dramatic, and brief return to the cooler, dryer
climate experienced as the Last Glacial Maximum was ending. The general thinking is that this
phenomenon occurred due to very cold

Demoralization In The Awakening
To demoralize someone is to dishearten or discourage them and cause them to lose hope. Kate Chopin
uses words like depressed (56), hopeless (56) and despondency (p115) to describe Edna, the heroine,
in The Awakening. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and
Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the
natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael
Levenson states. Levenson suggests most modernist authors and artists paint a bleak picture of their
time period because they are demoralized. Although the portrait Chopin paints of female oppression in
1899 is to some degree demoralizing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as
all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s
desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the
renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as
it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and
Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had
been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake
realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by
referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy;
their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the
property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr.
Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this
culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. However, for many women, like Edna this
world was suffocating. The natural reaction to this oppression is feminism, but Chopin does not
preach feminism in her novel.

Sexual Assault In College Essay
Sexual assault among college students is a tragic incident that keeps reoccurring. There are three
predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first predictor is
that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual activity while
drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual assaulted because college
students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is ok because their campus pairs
sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers someone s inhibition to make
plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower year in school that is one predictor
for sexual assault to occur. Younger age and underclassmen risk being taken advance of on college
campuses. They can be easily lied or fooled to by upperclassmen, especially in a relationship.

Text Messaging
Text messaging is a very controversial subject in our society, possibly even in other cultures. Some
complain that texting is overused and abused while others praise the most recent developments and
upgrades of texting. The pervasive use of text messaging in today s society has many facets; however,
the bad is said to outweigh the good. Any individual s perspective on the issue will most likely depend
on their age group or social class. For example, a fifteen year old would appreciate the convenience
and speed of text messaging but a fifty year old would most likely not need the texting function on
their cell phone; therefore, the speed and convenience of text messaging would become irrelevant.

The scarcity of understanding among the groups can cause tension, fighting, and even resentment. The
majority of text message conversations are built on forming a response as soon as you can. No one
really notices that the hidden idea behind this general statement can actually lead to a need for instant
gratification. Not only does this necessity cause severe impatience, it also causes an absence of
attention to many things such as school or one s communal life. When I text during a math or science
class where something has to be explained in steps, I lose all of my focus and do not understand what
the teacher is explaining. This most likely occurs in other types of situations such as business meetings
or even dinner dates. Texting while driving has become the most prevalent cause of traffic accidents in
America today. The general finding here is that the mobile telephone increases reaction time and that
it demands that better could be afforded driving (Ling 49). Those who take the risk of texting and
driving have a subconscious belief that they can avoid a car accident even though they are more
focused on the cell phone rather than driving. This belief has killed approximately 2,600 people a year

of these actions and banned texting while driving in Washington D.C. and 34 states. University of

Biological Psychology When most hear the words biological/psychology, many tend to have trouble

equation? Well we have to assume that our brain has influence or somehow effects are behavior. In
order to prove or disprove this theory, we have to research the biology and psychology of both the
brain and our behavior. So how do we do this, well first we have to understand the brain and how it
functions, as humans we have roughly 100 billion nerve cells in the brain. This is an overwhelming

The Impact of a Third Party America´s Two Party Political System
For hundreds of years, the two party system has dominated the American culture, but many people are
confused by what a two party system actually means. Although a two party system is defined as two
parties that are bigger than the rest, third parties have greatly impacted elections for over a hundred
years. Minor parties still continuously voice their opinions in issues, causing other candidates of either
major party to adopt their philosophies. Furthermore, some parties, such as the Reform have actually
been successful in obtaining a position, such as governor. Finally, third party candidates have actually

All of these positions influence the people to consider the presidential minor parties, thus having an
impact on the presidential elections. When a party wins a local office as a minor party, the name of
whatever the minor party is spreads around all the way around the United States. Not only does
winning a local office help the victor, but it also helps the member of the same party who runs for
President. The most recent example of a third party winning an office is the Independent Senator, Jim
Jeffords of Vermont. Jeffords, who was once a Republican, became an Independent because he felt he
no longer supported the policies of George W. Bush s Republican Party. With Jeffords transformation
to the Independent Party, he has promoted the Independent Party over the last three years and
continues to be a prominent figure in the modern Independent world. In terms of governor, Jesse
Ventura was elected as the Reform Party s Governor of Minnesota where he advocated and endorsed
the typical Reform beliefs. Ventura shocked the world with the exception of other minor party
candidates, who believed any party could win with a strong campaign. Ventura has been credited with
being one of the first few people to employ the Internet in a political campaign. The Green party in
2002 saw its greatest year of elections in its history with 71 new offices obtained. The Green Party

The Stereotypes Of Discrimination In The Workplace
Infringement of people s rights because of their race, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation is a
common phenomenon. This phenomenon contradicts the eternal aspirations of humanity to freedom,
equality, and justice. In labor relations, the most important rights that affected are the right to equal
access to work, equal pay for equal work, equal chances of promotion, protection from
unemployment, etc. Therefore, it is so important to talk about discrimination in labor relations, and not
only talk, but look for ways to protect those categories of citizens who are discriminated against.
Discrimination in the labor market is a widespread process that can be defined as the unequal
opportunities of workers with equal productivity, or the unequal treatment of employers, society, and

Cronus Research Paper
Cronus: The Father of Gods
Have you ever heard the tale of the father that ate his own children so that he could maintain
authority? In Greek mythology, Cronus was a crazed deity who did anything to keep his reign as lord
of the Titans. He has been worshipped for centuries as the god of harvest, and is usually depicted
holding a scythe or a sickle in either one of his hands. Additionally, Cronus is also regarded by many
as the god of ages and time, particularly when mass destruction occurs. Being the ancestor of all
twelve Olympian gods, he plays an extensive part in Greek mythology. From Ancient Greece to today,
Cronus has left a legacy as colossal as the Titans themselves.
Born as the youngest in the generation of Titans, Cronus had wanted to obtain power and was envious
of his father, the god of the sky, Uranus. His chance finally came to him when his mother, Gaia, the
goddess of earth, called upon her children with a request. She had asked them who was brave enough
to cast a dreadful punishment on Uranus for a task he had done previously to Gaia. Only Cronus was
willing enough to take the quest. Gaia equipped him with a grand, stone sickle and sent him to castrate
his father as divine retribution. After completing the burden, Cronus quickly dismissed Uranus and

Many of those ideas have been reflected on The Happiness Plunge by Adam Pervez when he explains
how living the American dream and still not being happy can be very difficult. Of course, all parents
always have that specific sport we want our children to play, for example, if you have a boy football is
one of the number one choices for our children to play. But what about if it s not atisfying our child,
like to them it dosnt make them happy. In The Happiness Plunge, Perez talks about how he was a field
engennier, a business development specialist but it still wasn t enough. This reflects the udea of your
son bring the best quarter back of the team, compared to other football teams he s still the best but he
dosnt look forward to going to practice, or getting out onto the field, to him it s just something he feels
he has to do. This idea is reflected in Pervez article when he says I was following a script for success
written by someone else, or by society (Pervez). A lot of the time parents unintentionally have their
children follow a script that they were taught by their parents. Parents are raising their children in a
consensus reality which is a reality that has been created by culture through practices, behaviors,
shared beliefs, rules and artifacts. Moreover, instead of parents letting their children choose to try
something they are intesred in or they try different things they have to stick to a script or to something
they feel is correct. In another example, Pervez tells how he identified writing, traveling, telling
stories, and helping others were his passions and decided to take the happiness plunge where to him,
there [was] more to life than the American Dream we ve been sold. In other words, parents tend to
stick to specific sport for their sons to playbeing that s the ideal sport for boys according to society, so

Though attitudes towards immigrants are negative, immigration was not always bad, in fact it was
once welcomed into America when it lacked a strong labor force. Most immigrants working in the U.S
during this time learned that life as a worker here was better than their previous life. Both skilled and
unskilled workers boosted the economy in strong times, but when the economy was on a fall, the
unskilled laborers were hit hardest of all (Andryszewski 52). Effects of immigration on the economy
also raise the argument over social service abuse, which is immigrants using social services provided

Differences Between Compassion And Compassion
The article, Compassion: Our First Instinct and the videos, How do You Define Yourself and No one
Dines Alone expanded my knowledge about compassion by teaching me that compassion is a skill
everyone has that can improve their mental health and that to show compassion to others you first
have to show it to yourself.
The article, Compassion: Our First Instinct¨ contributes to my understanding of compassion because it
taught me that compassion is a natural skill that is key to our survival and can be used to make
yourself happy. The author states. ¨in a study giving treats to others increased the giver s happiness
more than when they were the one receiving treats themselves. This quote is saying that the more you
give the happier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compassion: Our First Instinct states that compassion is a natural skill but How do You Define
Yourself combats that when it states compassion is a learned art that takes practice and dedication. A
similarity between No One Dines Alone and Compassion: Our First Instinct is that they both agree
that compassion is a necessary skill that can be used to improve mental health because Compassion:
Our First Instinct directly stated this and No One Dines Alone says that one of the students who
participated in this says that when he joined the group and sat with other kids he felt even better than
when he had someone sit with him when he was in that situation. One way these two sources differ is
that they have different takes on how to show compassion, in No One Dines Alone they find that the
best way to show compassion is to spend time with someone but in Compassion; Our First Instinct
they think that just giving thinks like material objects is the best way to show compassion. The
similarities and differences between the articles deeper developed my understanding of compassion
because they showed me that there are many different takes on compassion one not right or wrong but
all prove that compassion is a necessary skill that if used makes you

The Role Of Epidemic In Malcolm Gladwell s The Tipping Point
Have you ever wondered why some trends take off, while others fall flat? How the spread of diseases
or even rumors can cause great epidemics? Well Malcolm Gladwell attacks ideas like these and more
in this book. The tipping Point is a biography of an idea. It is a book about how being in the right
place at the right time with the right person, can cause an epidemic to tip. For example, he starts with
the story of Hush Puppies. A few people started to wear the shoes in clubs and bars in downtown
Manhattan. A fashion trend of a few rain drops, within two years, turn into a fashion hurricane. The
company went from selling 30,000 pairs to 450,000 pairs. Epidemics like these happen all the time,
but we just don t pick it up. This is where this book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book they use the environment and how it affects the way we live our life. If you live in a
neighborhood with broken windows, it would seem to be a high crime area. Gladwell uses an example
of a man who shot four teenage boys who he thought was going to rob him. The man did this because
crime was on a rise in New York in the 1980 s, so it seemed his action s was fine. The man was even
acquitted of the crimes. Our environment gives us the definition of was acceptable behavior. I am
from New Orleans and the things people do at Mardi Gras are crazy. The flashing of boobs and other
body parts, to being passed out drunk in the street naked, are common doing Mardi Gras. They would
never try to do things like that in a different environment, but since everybody is doing it, why not join

Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory
Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved whereby a
response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant conditioning is
considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a person changing
their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative consequences. B. F. Skinner,
professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on Thorndike s theory (O Donohue
Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of the theory of operant conditioning.
Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed and how they support operant
conditioning.
Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised
experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The aim
of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical
conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used positive
punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and positive
primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as, instead of
rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded as long as it
leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative explained as the
delivery of a consequence that

The Discovery Of The Network Devices
1. Describe the steps you would take to determine the needs of the organization (the discovery of the
network devices)
As a consultant that was brought in to determine the needs of the organization, the primary starting
point is content discovery. The art of content discovery is to get an understanding of the business, its
network structure, organizational requirements and the resources that are available. Because the
number one rule in all problem solving manifests, is first to know and get an understand the problem,
the problem that you are tasked with or trying to solve.
Therefore, the first element of content discovery is to get an understanding of the organization. Who is

The Treaty Of Versailles Was A War Of Slaughter On A New...
The Treaty of Versailles was first and foremost the end to World War 1, the Great War. The Great War
was a war of slaughter on a new scale as all countries involved had suffered massive loss of life; 1.8
million Germans, 1.7 million Russian, 1.4 million French, 1.3 million Austro Hungarians and 750
thousand British soldiers. As a result, the victors were bitter and were uninterested in Woodrow
Wilson s promise of a gentle peace agreement. They wanted to receive money and territory as
compensation. Even before the guns fell silent in 1918, the voices plaintive, demanding, angry, had
started. China belongs to the Chinese. Kurdistan must be free. Poland must live again ... They
complained: the Slovaks about the Czechs the Croats about the Serbs; the Arabs about the Jews; and
the Chinese about the Japanese. Margaret Macmillan (2001) (Paris 1919: Six Months That Change the
World)
The French demanded the most in reparations because the war had been fought almost exclusively on
French territory, and the French had sustained the heaviest loses and damages among the Allies, after
Russia, who had already negotiated a separate peace treaty. Also, Germany had invaded France 50
years earlier and the French wanted to prevent another German offensive. France was determined to
squeeze the maximum sum from the prostrate foe, not only to secure revenge, but to render Germany
powerless in the future. Margaret Macmillan (2001) (Paris 1919: Six Months That

WOW, that is a lot of patients! This week s lessons discusses the evolving role of the school nurse not
only attending the students needs but involvement in policy making activities at both the local and
state levels (CCN, 2015) The question proposed in this week s lesson regarding some of the roles for
the community health nurses is also applicable to the school nurse. The school nurse is the clinician,
case manager, advocate, educator, researcher, administrator, change agent, case finder, coordinator and
consultant in order to meet the complex needs of students.
According to Nies McEwen, many of today s health challenges are different from those of the past and
include behaviors and risks linked to the leading causes of death such as heart disease, injuries, and
cancer. In the suburb that I live in there has been no violence reported by students in the school system
that my daughter is a fifth grade teacher. I think the locale of the school system can increase potential
risk for violence. In the school system that my daughter is a teacher she says that they deal more with
behavior problems and lack of parental involvement in the child s progress. There are more students
that are being treated with mental illness at such an early age. She had one child that was diagnoses as
a bipolar. There have been several cases of child abuse that she has had to report. She feels a

Abolitionist John Brown
I have, may it please the court, a few words to say. In the first place, I deny everything but what I have
all along admitted the design on my part to free the slaves. I intended certainly to have made a clean
thing of that matter, as I did last winter when I went into Missouri and there took slaves without the
snapping of a gun on either side, moved them through the country, and finally left them in Canada. I
designed to have done the same thing again on a larger scale. That was what I intended. I never did
intent murder, or treason, or the destruction of property, or to excite or incite slaves to rebellion, or to
make insurrection.(Fanton 82)
These are some of the words spoken by abolitionist John Brown at his trial in Charles Town, Virginia
(now part of West Virginia) following his violent raid at Harper s Ferry Federal Arsenal in October,
1859 (Fanton 82). John Brown played a vital role in the anti slavery movement and his actions opened
the eyes of a nation that would become divided in a war of brother against brother. He clearly states
his intentions, but did he really not mean to excite or incite a rebellion among slaves? John Brown
represented the ideals and thoughts of many Americans. John Brown s strong beliefs on a violent
insurrection of the slaves gave rise to the beginning of the Civil War.
John Brown was born on May 9, 1800 in Torrington, Connecticut (McPhail). When Brown turned five
years old, his family moved to Ohio. His parents Owen Brown and Ruth

Pius XII Rationale
What was Pope Pius XII s rationale for not explicitly condemning the Nazi persecution of the Jews?
(How can we explain his diplomatic or strategic approach to this issue?)
World War II was a contentious period in the long blighted history of Europe. By 1942 most of Europe
was under a totalitarian regime, experiencing the most conscientious effort to eradicate a race of
people in history, the Holocaust. A spectator of this carnage was the Catholic Church, whose
leadership remained silent towards the Holocaust. Pope Pius XII chose to combat the Nazis through
quiet diplomacy, never explicitly condemning the Nazi s treatment and massacre of the Jews. Pius XII
s silence was prompted by a number of factors, which he believed were necessary to protecting the
European Jews. At the beginning of the war, Pius XII chose to leave any condemnation of the Nazis to
the local bishops because he believed that they were in a better position to assess the dangers posed by
the oppressive regimes. Pius XII felt that if had condemned the Nazis, he would have endangered the
Jews, citing that when a Catholic Bishop in Belgium spoke out against the Nazi s 20,000 Jews were
killed, if he had condemned the Nazis a possible 400,000 Jews could have been killed in response.
This rationalization comes from the idea that in order to avoid exacerbating the situation, Pius XII
would have to remain silent against the Nazis. Pius XII s silence can be further explained by his
willingness to negotiate with the

Extracurricular activities I have been involved in within school include Girls Tennis, Knowledge Bowl, Speech, Yearbook and Fine Arts productions. Most notably I have been active in the music department, specifically choir. In my freshman and sophomore year I participated in the Fantasia Choir, and in my junior and senior year I participated in the Madrigal and Jazz Choir. In all of my years in the high school I have participated in Large Group Festival in Kerkhoven, Minnesota and Solo Ensemble in Benson, Minnesota. A few things I want to work on is building better relationship with the students and communication with them, make sure I am specific with them directions and expectations so the classroom will run better and I myself will become a better individual an letter for my classroom. • 7. Homework Controversy Is homework helpful or harmful? The homework controversy has been going on for a quiet a long time with no end in sight. Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to the students to help with practice or prepare for the future. Homework has been around a long period of time. It has set and traced as a tradition of having teachers assigning work and students completing it. Parents say that teachers require it and teachers say s that parents demand to help their kids to finish it. Teachers assign homework to help some students improve their grade, pass course, re learn the subject you learn in the class, and pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests and exams. Can homework be considered helpful or harmful? This interrogation turns into an argument or debate between two reasonable subjects. Especially for the student s athletes or any students who enjoys after school activities, homework hurts probably the most. The assignments take away time, which could be spent on doing more productive actions or spend time with your family or may cause unnecessary stress. Parents, educators, students and indeed general public have all deeply divided over the homework issues for a while. When a student s falls asleep in class, he or she is unusually is disciplined for it. Plastic sleeves are another way to keep your shirts looking their best. At very least, they should be folded and kept on your shelf or in a dresser drawer. 9. Make a T shirt Folder. An ally in the fight to protect your shirts is the proper fold. You don t want to run creases through your artwork. A shirt folder is a great way to quickly fold your shirts in a proper manner. A folder can be purchased or made for a matter of cents from common household materials (six pieces of 9x12 cardboard and a roll of duct tape). While cereal boxes are a little thin, they are the right size. Place the rectangles three wide by two deep about a quarter inch apart. Connect the panels with the duct tape on the front and the back. The quarter inch of duct tape between the panels will act like hinges, so make sure they are pressed together well. The folder is now complete. Lay your shirt face down on the folder vertically with the neck to the top. Fold the right two panels to the center. Leave the shirt, but pull the panels back. Repeat this move on the left. However, a new derivative of penicillin called methicillin was created and introduced to the public in 1959 (Ventola, 2015). Not long after, methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was found in parts of Europe in 1962 and the United States in 1968. However, an antibiotic called vancomycin was developed to combat the methicillin resistant strain. Since scientists found it very difficult to induce vancomycin resistance in a research setting, they found it highly unlikely to develop in a clinical setting. One way that bacteria transfer their DNA is through vertical transfer which is a scientific name for transferring genetic material from parent to offspring (Dabnua, 2005). Bacteria are capable of transferring their DNA asexually, meaning that they do not require a partner to produce an offspring, and this is done through binary fission. The process of binary fission is when bacterial DNA is replicated and the cell divides into 2 daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent. Bacteria containing the antibiotic resistant gene can easily pass this on through binary fission. When conditions are favorable, such as optimal temperature and nutrients, bacteria can replicate quickly and efficiently, dividing as fast as every 20 minutes. Another form of DNA transfer is through horizontal transfer. Horizontal transfer occurs via plasmids through conjugation, transformation and transduction (Dabnua, 2005). A plasmid is a circular molecule of DNA independent from the bacteria s chromosomal DNA. It is a double stranded molecule that can replicate independently and normally only contains genes that may be beneficial to the survival of the bacteria, such as the mecA gene (Brisse, 2002). Once plasmid replication is complete, it can be transferred from one bacteria to another through conjugation, transformation and transduction. During the process of conjugation, 2 separate ... Everything was displaced, including gender roles. With people dying in trenches everyday, a woman s place in the kitchen became a secondary concern. World War One was a time of progressive change however, this change was only temporary. Both One of Ours, written by Willa Cather, and Mrs. Dalloway, written by Virginia Woolf, take place during this era. Despite being set during a time of supposed progress for women s rights, the roles that women are expected to fulfill in these texts are still oppressive.Examining these novels, it becomes apparent that the roles of women did not change as a result of the war. Marsha Gordon further writes, Once again using the ploys of patriotism, women were expected to return to pre war standards for women s labour without questioning the patriarchal ideology behind this assumption (85). The progress of women s rights ended abruptly when the soldiers came back to resume their old lives. Progressively, the main thing to come out of World War One for women was the passing of the 19th Amendment in 1920, three years after World War One (Hughes, 1). It wasn t until World War Two that women s roles truly became redefined. In the novel One of Ours, Enid Wheeler is a headstrong and determined character, going against women s traditional roles during the early 1900s. Early on in One of Ours, Enid shows that she does not uphold the traditional values forced on many women. For instance, when a thunderstorm appears while Enid and Claude are driving, Claude stops, wanting to wait out the storm. Enid takes the driver s seat from Claude and maneuvers them through the storm (111 114). Enid is not afraid to step up and assume a position of authority. Critic Ryan M., writer of No Woman s Land: Gender in Willa Cather s One of Ours, writes that Enid assumes the active male role, intruding herself into his sickroom, courting him with flowers, beating him at chess (page ?). As well as creating the Farmers Institute, Carver also helped the farmers of Alabama and the southern states a great deal. An insect called the boll weevil became an enormous threat to the cotton fields of southern United States. Carver recommended to these farmers that they should substitute their cotton crops with sweet potatoes and, the more successful recommendation, peanuts. This switch would provide farmers another source of income and would also help to prevent the spread of the insect. The one problem with this solution was that no one knew what to do with all the peanut crops. Carver was quoted as saying: we can learn to synthesize materials for every human need from the things that grow. So that is what he did. In total, Carver was able to create close to three hundred different products from the peanut plant. These wide variety of products include dyes, ink, insulation, cosmetics, stock feed, medicines, glue, soap, and peanut milk. Although most of his products never became commercially sold, Carver became widely known as the Peanut Man . He also created nearly one hundred uses for the sweet potato crops. A leader in the corporate world may need different characteristics from a leader in the sports field. This does not mean that some characteristics will not be evident in all leaders. Confidence for example is almost always a trait in a leader no matter who they are leading or what capacity they are leading in. So if a leader needs a combination of characteristics that makes them successful is a leader born or made? The answer is both. Some people already possess the traits that they need to be leaders and are often leaders from an early age. Some people observe and eventually become leaders. Leadership can be taught. Over the years many theories about leadership have been developed. These theories include but are not limited to trait theories, behavioral theories, contingency theories, and functional theories. Trait theories assume all leaders share a number of common traits. This theory identifies traits or characteristics that are essential when being a leader. Traits like assertiveness, good decision making, empathy, integrity, and confidence are some examples of traits of successful leaders; however, there is no magic combination of traits that will guarantee someone to be a successful leader. But that slowly changed as I read the book What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain Chapter four. Bain, for me and I m sure many other, have changed our view point on failure being a bad thing. He instead expressed failure as an opportunity to learn something. (121) As infants we grow and develop, we learn to walk by falling down a couple hundred times, and we learn to speak by babbling. By trying to walk, and trying to talk, we may fail at first. As an infant, you cannot give up when you are face to face with failure. You must get up and try again to learn. In the book, What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain he uses people s experiences and research to explain why failure is an opportunity to learn something new, rather than seeing failure as something bad. He asserts people who become highly creative and productive learn to acknowledge failures, even to embrace them, and to explore and learn from them. (100) Failure is important. If we did not get up and try again as infants, we would not be where we are today. The main assertion in this chapter is that failure is a life lesson. Failing is constantly unwelcomed in our lives. When we are unsuccessful we tend not to think, oh this is going to be a great learning experience. Bain takes a simple approach to explain what good comes out of failure. • 22. Causes Of The Neolithic Revolution Initiation of the Neolithic Revolution When considering the most plausible theory for the catalyst that began the Neolithic Revolution, one must look directly at the changing climate of the region. Approximately 18,000 BC, the earth was experiencing a climactic transition, brought about by the end of the Last Glacial Maximum. During this transition the earth began to experience warming temperatures, which dramatically changed the landscape, and the very existence of the hunter gatherer populations. The oscillating temperatures that occurred during the next few thousand years help guide the trajectory of development in agriculture and human societies. While considering the weather, Barry Cunliffe, author of Europe Between the Oceans states, By about 12,000 BC dense forest covered much of the western part of the hilly flanks region, giving way, around its borders, to more open areas where extensive stands of wild wheats and ryes could flourish (91). This period of warmer weather is referred to as the Holocene. The thawing ice sheets also caused water to rise, and subsequently change not only the structure of the land, but the plant life as well. As the hunter gatherers adjusted to these changes in their environment, another climactic event ensued called the Younger Dryas. The Younger Dryas was a dramatic, and brief return to the cooler, dryer climate experienced as the Last Glacial Maximum was ending. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael Levenson states. Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy; their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr. Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. There are three predictors I believe heavily contributes to sexual assault among college students. The first predictor is that an individual is in a college environment that promotes heavy drinking and sexual activity while drinking. I believe this contributes to the chances of someone getting sexual assaulted because college students in this environment might think it s the norm and feel that it is ok because their campus pairs sexual activity with drinking. The consumption of alcohol lowers someone s inhibition to make plausible decisions. Similarly, if a person is younger age and lower year in school that is one predictor for sexual assault to occur. Soldiers of the Brigade, during assault on Baghdad occupying Satellite Park (camp with dozens of satellite dishes settled somewhere in Kuwait, approximately 75 miles from Iraqi border) were controlling if every unit has maintaining connection with the central command. In 2003 the 11th Signal Brigade were responsible for the flow of whole Army s battlefield communication (five networks). The routine of checking health of the communication nodes spread among fighting units, were broken when any one of the representing them icons changed color from green to red. In these cases main task of the unit were becoming delivery of reserve transmitters on the front line. In the Revolution in Military Affairs it is necessary that every soldier can get connection to the Global Command and Control System ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 1920 s, Paris became the undisputed international capital of pleasure and was regarded as the cultural and artistic center of Europe with a reputation for staging one of its most glamorous eras, as well as some of the most spectacular revues in the world. By the end of the decade, statistics revealed that there were as many as thirty thousand artists in Paris alone. The Lost Generation is essentially a term that is used to describe the young adults of the 1920 s who were changing with the times and rebelling against what America had become after the war. They populated areas like Paris and London where they expected to find literary freedom and a cosmopolitan way of life. The Lost Generation of American writers and poets left America, seeking refuge from the broken culture and devastation that had come from the war, and ended up in Paris, a city that had a thriving art culture where they could write freely and lavish in the Bohemian lifestyle without rules. They drank, traveled, had love affairs, and wrote. They were influenced by the paintings of artists like Dada and Picasso and collected their works, as well as socialized with them. They critiqued each other s writing and often met in bookstores, cafĂŠs, and bars to talk about their works and life in general. They had mostly upper middle class upbringings and were sustained in hard times by their parents fortunes. Immigration Reform is Needed in the US Essay Immigration in the United States The immigration patterns of the United States have fluctuated over the years, some years having little while others see a rising amount of immigrants, both legal and illegal, looking for opportunities to improve their lives. The amount of illegal immigration is a problem since many take advantage of the social services provided by the government without contributing towards the country since they are not citizens and many people see these illegal immigrants as a threat to their employment. Though attitudes towards immigrants are negative, immigration was not always bad, in fact it was once welcomed into America when it lacked a strong labor force. Most immigrants working in the U.S during this time learned that life as a worker here was better than their previous life. Both skilled and unskilled workers boosted the economy in strong times, but when the economy was on a fall, the unskilled laborers were hit hardest of all (Andryszewski 52). Effects of immigration on the economy also raise the argument over social service abuse, which is immigrants using social services provided by the government without paying social service taxes or being in the right legal status to obtain those services. Many have argued that illegal immigrants should not be entitled to health care services and public education should be denied to illegal immigrant children. If this were to happen then family migrants would be less common, and this is counter productive to the U.S, it is much better if the immigrants arrive with their families to help them assimilate better within society and makes them better citizens. The article, Compassion: Our First Instinct¨ contributes to my understanding of compassion because it taught me that compassion is a natural skill that is key to our survival and can be used to make yourself happy. One similarity between How do You Define Yourself and Compassion: Our First Instinct is that they both state that compassion is a necessary skill for us to have and use but they differ when Compassion: Our First Instinct states that compassion is a natural skill but How do You Define Yourself combats that when it states compassion is a learned art that takes practice and dedication. A similarity between No One Dines Alone and Compassion: Our First Instinct is that they both agree that compassion is a necessary skill that can be used to improve mental health because Compassion: Our First Instinct directly stated this and No One Dines Alone says that one of the students who participated in this says that when he joined the group and sat with other kids he felt even better than when he had someone sit with him when he was in that situation. One way these two sources differ is that they have different takes on how to show compassion, in No One Dines Alone they find that the best way to show compassion is to spend time with someone but in Compassion; Our First Instinct they think that just giving thinks like material objects is the best way to show compassion. The similarities and differences between the articles deeper developed my understanding of compassion because they showed me that there are many different takes on compassion one not right or wrong but all prove that compassion is a necessary skill that if used makes you ... • 40. The Role Of Epidemic In Malcolm Gladwell s The Tipping Point Have you ever wondered why some trends take off, while others fall flat? How the spread of diseases or even rumors can cause great epidemics? Well Malcolm Gladwell attacks ideas like these and more in this book. The tipping Point is a biography of an idea. It is a book about how being in the right place at the right time with the right person, can cause an epidemic to tip. For example, he starts with the story of Hush Puppies. A few people started to wear the shoes in clubs and bars in downtown Manhattan. A fashion trend of a few rain drops, within two years, turn into a fashion hurricane. The company went from selling 30,000 pairs to 450,000 pairs. Epidemics like these happen all the time, but we just don t pick it up. This is where this book ... The man did this because crime was on a rise in New York in the 1980 s, so it seemed his action s was fine. The man was even acquitted of the crimes. Our environment gives us the definition of was acceptable behavior. I am from New Orleans and the things people do at Mardi Gras are crazy. • 41. Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved whereby a response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant conditioning is considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a person changing their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative consequences. B. F. Skinner, professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on Thorndike s theory (O Donohue Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of the theory of operant conditioning. Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed and how they support operant conditioning. Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The aim of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used positive punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and positive primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as, instead of rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded as long as it leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative explained as the delivery of a consequence that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Treaty Of Versailles Was A War Of Slaughter On A New... The Treaty of Versailles was first and foremost the end to World War 1, the Great War. The Great War was a war of slaughter on a new scale as all countries involved had suffered massive loss of life; 1.8 million Germans, 1.7 million Russian, 1.4 million French, 1.3 million Austro Hungarians and 750 thousand British soldiers. As a result, the victors were bitter and were uninterested in Woodrow Wilson s promise of a gentle peace agreement. They wanted to receive money and territory as compensation. Even before the guns fell silent in 1918, the voices plaintive, demanding, angry, had started. China belongs to the Chinese. Kurdistan must be free. Poland must live again ... They complained: the Slovaks about the Czechs the Croats about the Serbs; the Arabs about the Jews; and the Chinese about the Japanese. Margaret Macmillan (2001) (Paris 1919: Six Months That Change the World) The French demanded the most in reparations because the war had been fought almost exclusively on French territory, and the French had sustained the heaviest loses and damages among the Allies, after Russia, who had already negotiated a separate peace treaty. Also, Germany had invaded France 50 years earlier and the French wanted to prevent another German offensive. France was determined to squeeze the maximum sum from the prostrate foe, not only to secure revenge, but to render Germany powerless in the future. • 48. Abolitionist John Brown I have, may it please the court, a few words to say. In the first place, I deny everything but what I have all along admitted the design on my part to free the slaves. I intended certainly to have made a clean thing of that matter, as I did last winter when I went into Missouri and there took slaves without the snapping of a gun on either side, moved them through the country, and finally left them in Canada. I designed to have done the same thing again on a larger scale. That was what I intended. I never did intent murder, or treason, or the destruction of property, or to excite or incite slaves to rebellion, or to make insurrection.(Fanton 82) These are some of the words spoken by abolitionist John Brown at his trial in Charles Town, Virginia (now part of West Virginia) following his violent raid at Harper s Ferry Federal Arsenal in October, 1859 (Fanton 82). John Brown played a vital role in the anti slavery movement and his actions opened the eyes of a nation that would become divided in a war of brother against brother. He clearly states his intentions, but did he really not mean to excite or incite a rebellion among slaves? John Brown represented the ideals and thoughts of many Americans. John Brown s strong beliefs on a violent insurrection of the slaves gave rise to the beginning of the Civil War. John Brown was born on May 9, 1800 in Torrington, Connecticut (McPhail). • 49. Pius XII Rationale What was Pope Pius XII s rationale for not explicitly condemning the Nazi persecution of the Jews? (How can we explain his diplomatic or strategic approach to this issue?) World War II was a contentious period in the long blighted history of Europe. By 1942 most of Europe was under a totalitarian regime, experiencing the most conscientious effort to eradicate a race of people in history, the Holocaust. A spectator of this carnage was the Catholic Church, whose leadership remained silent towards the Holocaust. Pope Pius XII chose to combat the Nazis through quiet diplomacy, never explicitly condemning the Nazi s treatment and massacre of the Jews. Pius XII s silence was prompted by a number of factors, which he believed were necessary to protecting the European Jews. At the beginning of the war, Pius XII chose to leave any condemnation of the Nazis to the local bishops because he believed that they were in a better position to assess the dangers posed by the oppressive regimes. Pius XII felt that if had condemned the Nazis, he would have endangered the Jews, citing that when a Catholic Bishop in Belgium spoke out against the Nazi s 20,000 Jews were killed, if he had condemned the Nazis a possible 400,000 Jews could have been killed in response. This rationalization comes from the idea that in order to avoid exacerbating the situation, Pius XII would have to remain silent against the Nazis. Pius XII s silence can be further explained by his willingness to negotiate with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
