Haye Elementary School Plan Essay
Hayse Elementary: A High Performing School Plan Hayse Elementary School is a school that stands
out in the state of North Carolina. The school it known for meeting state proficiency standards and is
considered one of the highest performing schools in the state. Hayse Elementary School has not
always been known for its achievements. It has only been in the last few years that the school got on a
track that has lead them to high performance. This rural low wealth school in North Carolina
commends its success to acknowledging their challenges, balancing equity and adequacy, and
developing continual improvement measures for the future. This paper discusses how Hayse
Elementary School stakeholders joined their efforts and created a path that has lead them to continual
success. Fiscal Challenges and Litigation Like many public schools in North Carolina, Hayes
Elementary is presented with numerous funding challenges each school year. Specifically, per pupil
funding, facilities, and teacher compensation have been the areas that have lacked the most
historically. Thanks to the ongoing North Carolina litigation of Leandro v. State, Hayse Elementary

Top of the priority list for success at Hayes Elementary is school culture and climate. Creating an
environment that is welcoming, supportive, safe, believes in its students, and has high expectations for
its stakeholders is vital. Leadership who communicates a clear shared vision and depends on its
stakeholders to achieve it through collaboration and communication is what helps to create this type of
culture and climate. Curriculum, instruction, and assessment must be aligned and guided by state
standards. This includes making sure teachers and staff understand the importance of assessment in
general and why and how assessment measures are required by the

Maternity Insurance Coverage
One of the most important things that you shall know if you are pregnant is whether or not you have
maternity insurance coverage. These days, it is very expensive to give birth. You have to think of the
doctor s fees, hospital bills, medications, and so on. After giving birth, the expenses do not stop there.
You still have to think about the baby s expense as he or she is growing up. This is why it is important
to think of ways to minimize your pregnancy expenses as much as possible.
Maternity coverage is not an insurance policy on its own. It is usually covered as a rider benefit in
your health insurance. When choosing health insurance, be sure to choose something that has
maternity coverage. To know more about pregnancy coverage, you need ... Show more content on

It could include prenatal care or outpatient monthly checkups with your doctor. It could also include
hospital bills, doctor s fee, and medications. Some women who gave birth and have good insurance
policies do not have to pay anything. It is important to choose the right kind of insurance policy that
gives you more coverage at the most affordable price.
3) Considerations
When choosing health insurance, you have to choose something that has maternity insurance. If you
already have health insurance without pregnancy coverage, you can talk with your insurance provider
and ask them what you can do about it. They can add maternity coverage to your insurance or you can
shift to a different plan with maternity coverage. You have to apply for pregnancy insurance when you
are still in the process of getting pregnant. It may be more difficult to get approval for your application
if you are applying when you are already pregnant.
Another consideration is to find affordable health insurance policies that require you to pay reasonable
premiums but with good coverage. If you are employed in a good company, you do not have to worry
about getting yourself health insurance with pregnancy coverage because the company is required to
do this for their employees, but if you are self employed, you need to take care of these things

The Old Testament And The New Covenant
Introduction
With the writing of the New Testament and the New Covenant, many Christians wonder if they are
still obligated to follow the writings of the Old Testament, specifically the Mosaic Law. Romans helps
to answer this question. Paul writes in Romans that the Christian is no longer under Old Testament or
Mosaic Law, but is now under Christ s Law (Rom 7:6 ) and that justification by faith, not works under
the law is what will make a man righteous (Rom 3:28). This does not mean that the Christian should
completely disregard the Scripture, for as it is written in 2 Timothy, all Scripture is from God and is
good for teaching, however, Christians need to have a better understanding of the law they are now to
live by. The Mosaic Law still has a useful purpose, and is still good to know, it is just no longer the
rule of Christian life.
Is The Old Testament Important?
Since Christian s have the New Testament, is the Old Testament and its teachings even still important?
Is there anything of value to be gained from reading it? Absolutely. Again, as stated in 2 Timothy, all
Scripture is from God and is important for teaching. There is much to be learned from the Old
Testament. Paul cited the Old Testament extensively in his writings in Romans. Paul s thesis for the
entire book of Romans, Chapter 1:16 17 refers to Habakkuk 2:4 with a literal translation of his writing
being the righteous (or, just) person from faith will live. He saw the importance of the Old Testament

Discipleship In The Gospels Of John And Luke-Acts
Each of the four Gospels contains points in ecclesiology. In the Great Commission, Jesus last
instruction to the Apostles is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching people
(Matthew 28:19 20). For Jesus mission to continue and for his Church to grow, discipleship is
necessary. Discipleship is a prominent theme in all four Gospels, for purposes of this essay, only the
Gospels of John and Luke Acts will be analyzed. The similarities regarding discipleship in these
Gospels include images of the net and fishing, and the sheep/shepherd/sheepfold. The differences
include the preparing of the Twelve to carry on Jesus ministry in Luke, and service to the community
and passing of authority in John s Gospel. According to Matera, Luke Acts is a well defined set of
time periods. The Gospel is considered the time of Jesus and Acts is the time of the Church. The time
of Jesus in Luke s Gospel foreshadows the Church (Matera, 7). As stated in Stanton, Luke set out the
story of Jesus as a prelude to the story of the origin and growth of the early Church (Stanton, 80).
John, on the other hand, focuses on Christology and the teachings of Jesus to the community (Matera,
9). Both Gospels contain strong references to discipleship, which form the basis for the Church.
In both Luke and John, fishing and the image of the net allude to discipleship. In Luke Chapter 5, the
disciples have fished all night and returned the next morning with nothing. Jesus tells them to put

Innovation Through Source Analysis For The Classroom
Innovation through Source Analysis If teachers want to revolutionize the way that history or social
studies is taught in the classroom, they must move away from the idea that history is a series of facts
that need to be taught to students. Instead of simply giving students the answers to historical
questions, teachers must impart the practice of historical inquiry to their students. This ability to think
like a historian allows students to be active participants in all history lessons. Such a revolutionary
transformation is only possible if teachers generate innovative lessons that propagate historical
analysis in the classroom. At the same time, teachers are expected to adhere to the Common Core
standards that require students to be able to read, understand, and utilize complex informational texts
(80). In order to transform history in the classroom and adhere to these Common Core Standards, it is
important that teachers understand the importance of source analysis in lessons, know how to choose
and create age appropriate adapted sources, and successfully incorporate such lessons into larger units
that ensure students learn to think historically. To ensure that students are able to engage in the
practices utilized by historians, teachers must provide students with the proper tools to do so. Since
historical thinking takes practice, students need materials to practice with. Primary sources offer the
perfect opportunity for such practice. In fact, according to

Hidden Figures And Bend It Like Beckham Film Analysis
How is the theme of perseverance in Hidden Figures and Bend it like Beckham used to influence
viewers and how are cinematic techniques applied to achieve this? The movies Hidden Figures, and
Bend it like Beckham, directed by Theodore Melfi and Gurinder Chadha respectively, both explore the
dangers that are inherent in a marginalised society. Each text demonstrates that hope for change is
needed in society as it can build the momentum for an individual to strive. Through the use of
cinematic techniques, it can be observed that people have no conscience about harming others until
they learn the truth about their circumstances. This is depicted by the way in which Jess coach Joe

The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes Paid
Every year, thousands of student athletes across the world sign the NCAA s 08 3A Form, also called
the Student Athlete form, which waives their right to receive money for the use of their name and
image. Like many of us in this class, these college athletes devote their time to their academics while
spending additional hours with training and practices throughout the day and receive no stipend in
return. This 08 3A form defines college athletes as amateurs, who cannot receive payment for playing
their desired sport. While their schools and coaches may make millions of dollars in salaries and
endorsement deals and are the highest paid public employees in many states due to their performances
in their desired sport, these amateurs can never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A fair policy is one that treats every student the same. For example, The Butler School of Music at the
UT Austin has many student musicians who perform at the professional level and advises its students
on how to negotiate a contract and get paid for their performances according to the website. Another
example would be actress Emma Watson, who enrolled at Brown University in Rhode Island, was able
to work on the set of the Harry Potter movies while attending the school s theatre department. Can you
imagine Brown University officials telling Watson that she would have to make the next two Harry
Potter films for free instead of making five million dollars that she was offered? ((Zimbalist).
Compared to musicians and actors, student athletes have a greater need to obtain money while they are
still in college. Their professional careers are likely to be much shorter due to the wearing and tearing
of your body. Second, college may be the only time some student athletes have the chance to take
advantage of their success. Student athletes often leave school with permanent injuries and no medical
insurance or job prospects, whereas musicians and actors rarely suffer career ending injuries on the job
(Zimbalist). We see how musicians and actors can profit from their talents so athletes should have the

William W. Cape Jr.
The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by
the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the
connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that
suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and
through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and
Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality
through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a
nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of
history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that
he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly
sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière
instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years
after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Because of the time lapse
between modern and ancient, primary research is almost always nonexistent, meanwhile secondary
research is typically the go to for written history. Hence, authors must use interpretations and

The United States Fiscal Year 2016 Is From October 1, 2015,
The United States fiscal year 2016 is from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016. The requested
budget was submitted to the 114th Congress. Congress creates a new budget for the United States
every year. This process is also called the appropriation process. These bills specify how much money
will go to the different government agencies and government programs. Congress will then have to
pass legislation that will provide the federal government the authority to spend the money giving to
them.
There are five key steps in the budgeting process
1. The President will submit a budget request to Congress. This is just a proposal.
2. The House and Senate pass budget resolutions They must vote on their own budget resolutions.

The money for the budget comes from income taxes, payroll taxes, and corporate income. These are
the three main sources of the budget s revenue. Income taxes are that the government collects from the
American people. Income taxes make up the federal government s largest revenue source. Payroll
taxes are designated as trust funds. As trust funds, the money collect can only be used for a very
specific purpose such as Social Security. Corporate taxes are paid by companies, though a marginal
tax rate anywhere from fifteen percent to thirdly five percent depending on how much profit the
corporation made. There are also a couple of other types of taxes that add to the revenue such as
excise taxes and miscellaneous taxes. In 2016, individual income tax made up forty nine percent,
which is up five percent from 2015. Payroll taxes made up thirty three percent, which was also up five
percent from the following year. This was due to the growth in people wages and salaries. Corporate
taxes made up nine percent, which fell thirteen percent from the following year. Excise taxes made up
three percent and miscellaneous taxes rounded the budget at seven percent. The total revenues for the
government in 2016 were $2.99 trillion dollars.
So, where does the money go? Below I will just highlight some of the bigger areas of where the
money goes.

Federal Reserve Autonomy

The Essential Role of the Federal Reserve
The Federal Reserve was established as the Central bank of the United States in late 1913. Commonly
referred to as the Fed, it is responsible for managing currency, money supply, and interest rates
(Lecture, 10/6). While the bank is given much autonomy over its actions, it is not independent from
the US government in that the legislature is responsible for allowing the Federal Reserve to act freely,
and elected officials appoint central bankers. These are two primary mechanisms for keeping the Fed
in check, insuring that it is acting in the nation s best interest (O, 286). Countries with central banks
that are independent from their governments tend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

floating exchange rate. The interwar period saw a breakdown in international monetary coordination
proving that a floating economy was doomed for failure (FLB 264). Outside of the lack of
international coordination, the Gold Standard had other downfalls leading to its demise. For example,
national governments had no authority to stimulate their country s economies in times of need.
Moreover, the fixed economy limits foreign trade, hurting the country s industries (lecture,

Independent of the genome screens, evidence suggests that the region on chromosome 15q11 13
contains a gene or genes relevant to Autism. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Basically, there are suggestions
that the chromosome 15q11 13 is somehow mutated, deleted, or duplicated, causing this disorder to
transpire. In addition to genetics, environmental factors can influence Autism; though they are not
greatly supported ideas, they can t be entirely ruled out. In the UK there have been reports of the
measles vaccine having a part in causing this disorder. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Newer studies have
even shown that prenatal care before a woman even conceives reduces the risk extensively. Woman
who did not take a daily multivitamin in the three months before conception and during the first month
of pregnancy were almost twice as likely to give birth to a child with ASD as a woman who had taken
a daily multivitamin. (The Harvard Mental Health Letter 2011). Multivitamins contain a lot of helpful
vitamins to maintain a healthy pregnancy, but researchers suggest that the folic acid is the most
significant influence that reduces the risk of a child born with ASD. (The Harvard Mental Health

Which leads us to the character of Chin Kee. At first he seems like a way for the author to call out the

high intelligence, he fits all the racist stereotypes people have of Asians. However, we later learn that
Chin Kee was a disguise for the Monkey King and when we realize that Danny was formerly known
as Jin Wang, Chin Kee s character gains another layer. Chin Kee s character does not just call out the

manifestation of his internalized racism. Every time Chin Kee visits, he is reminded of the Chinese
identity that he rejected. Danny tries to run away, change schools, but that won t change the fact that
he is Chinese. His struggles with his identity will always follow him around, until he deals with them.
When the Monkey King shows his true form, he asks Danny to do the same thing, to reveal himself as

Monkey King answers him: You know, Jin, I would have saved myself from five hundred years

The book does not give a clear answer what exactly his identity will be now. However, he has started

`` Just Like The Dreamers ``
On June of 2012, President Obama s announced that his administration would stop deporting
undocumented youth who were brought to the United States of America illegally by their parents. This
was a huge win for the DREAM act which allowed undocumented youths to pursue higher education
or join the workforce with. Francisco Jimenez or Panchito, as he is called in the story, just like the
DREAMers, was brought to the US by his parents when we was about eight years old. Unfortunately,
by the time he was fifteen years of age, he was deported back to Mexico. Between the years of coming
to the US and being deported back, Franciso had assimilated to the American culture in many ways i.e
being so fluent in English that he could memorize the Declaration Of Independence. From picking
cotton and strawberries to moving from state to state looking for jobs, the Jimenez family had seen it
all. They came to America looking to achieve their American Dream but they were not so successful.
Panchito, even though was not able to become full American, I believe that he did feel American for
most of the part in the book. When Panchito arrived in the US, he did not know any English. One of
the most difficult thing he has to do was start his first day of school in America because he was unable
to communicate with his classmates, and the teacher nor was he able to understand the instructions the
teacher gave. He added in the book that When Ms. Scalapino started speaking to the class and I did

Descartes Meditations Of First Philosophy
Christopher Joao
Philosophy 201
Mr. Jurkiewicz
4 March 2016 Descartes Meditation #2
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher born in 1596. He is considered by many the father of
modern philosophy and continues to have tremendous influence in the philosophical world to this day.
The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one meditation per
day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our own minds than of
the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless philosophers for
centuries.
In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he develops
his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes taking a piece
of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception of it. He describes
the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to the touch, and the sound
it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions and understands it to be a piece of
wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to
have through his senses. When the wax melted the taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It
no longer made a sound when touched and it was now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the
same. It was now different.
Even though the wax does not look the same as it

History depicts that Japan had gone through periods of rebuilding. By seeing into Japan s culture, it
seems like it is true in terms of Japan s layered past and representation of new media. At the year
1945, Hiroshima and Nagazaki were levelled by the atomic bomb dropped by the United State, and
this catastrophic event would have shape the nation over time. However, the Japanese has not simply
forgotten about it, but the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagazaki seems to have given the Japanese a
new meaning with the newer generation today. The word of atomic bomb to most of the people meant
death and destruction, but at the same time it can also mean rebirth or hope for the future. Hence the
concept of death and rebirth had become common theme in Japanese anime.
The concept of rebirth can be seen the film Akira. Akira took place after the World War III, Tokyo has

Globalization Is A Kind Of Phenomenon Of Human Social...
Nowadays, globalization is a kind of phenomenon of human social development process. It enhances
global connections and makes different culture spread from all over the world. Globalization is also an
exchange of world view, products, concepts and other cultural elements, and it brings a process of
international integration. As we know, there are more and more worldwide brands appear in the world,
such as Starbucks. Many eastern people begin to accept coffee in their life even though Starbucks is a
western brand, so globalization makes a connection between every countries and influence each
others. However, some people with traditional ideas may think that globalization is a bad thing to
protect national culture, and it can lead to cultural conflict. I believe that globalization promotes a
better development and transmits more advanced knowledge by cooperation between every individual
countries all over the world. The spread of culture becomes important in the world because every
country has their different kinds of culture, and it lets people know more cultures from other countries.
Globalization is a good way to promote cultural communication and spread because it makes a

Indigenous Australian Literature Analysis
The cultural representation of Indigenous Australians within Australia are heavily influences by what
is portrayed in today s Literature. Indigenous Australians get a rather bad wrap in literature, which has
produced negative stereotype towards Indigenous Australians as being primitive, uneducated, drunks,
violent, lazy and lacking complex laws, society organisation and cultural diversity (Kroff, J. 2017).
These stereotypes have derived from historical inaccuracies about Indigenous Australians in literature
and furthermore affected the representation of present day Aboriginals and Torres Straight Islanders in
Australia. Overall many non Indigenous Australians state a positive attitude towards Indigenous
Australians, but still, three out of four Indigenous Australians claim to have experienced racism
(ANTaR, 2012). Therefore, these stereotypes are producing negatives impacts towards Indigenous
Australians and will furthermore have the potential to impact on children, teachers and the teaching
profession.
The portrayal Indigenous Australians within literature can be broken down into three man offender.
Firstly, it had been depicted historically inaccurate images about Indigenous Australian, most
commonly presenting Aboriginals cultural are static and unchanging. The literature surrounding
Aboriginal historical, social and political parameters have taken place within an expansive regime of
the colonial enterprise in order to sustain the foundation myth of settlement

Urbanization Of Homelessness
After watching the Bloomington city council meeting on February 3, 2016 there were multiple
inherent issues which were discussed for the betterment of Bloomington as a whole. Some of the
topics ranged from healthcare and education, to homelessness and safety. Though many plans the
council mentioned which are currently in place are newer policies, a couple have been in place since
our country s origin. The councils use of public opinion and fundamental policies allows for
Bloomington to demonstrate an example of a successfully run city.
The first topic discussed was when the chairman of the Bloomington Human Rights Commission
presented their annual human right award to the downtown research officer program of the

With the increase in numbers, police officers would be able to crack down on urban crime, and work
toward decreasing crime rates. Additionally, in order to solve the problem of homelessness I would
suggest to take a new approach to this problem by creating more developments and potentially
providing and generating jobs for the homeless. This city planning tool is referred to as municipalities
control to direct growth and development in downtown areas. Though making more spaces for
homeless people to go helps their wellbeing, it doesn t help the fact that more and more people are
becoming homeless because they are unable to find work. By creating jobs for a portion of the
homeless that are able to work, it will decrease the number of homeless people on the streets which
will better the downtown

The History of Walmart
To know understand Walmart as a company, you need to start where it began. Walmart was started by
Sam Walton in 1962 in Bentonville, Arkansas; the building still exists as a museum. When Mr. Walton
started Walmart he said, he believed in leadership through service (Walmart,2014). He wanted to have
a company that would succeed and provide exceptional customer services while his company
delivered a price that people could afford. The company employed people who surpassed in customer
services. Customer services was not Sam Walton s only vision for his company. He wanted his
employees to be happy. He started an open door policy, this policy states that if an employee has an
issue with any coworker, assistant manager or manager, the door is open to speak to another manager
about it. When I worked at Walmart it was a very helpful policy when I was having a personal issue
with my department manager. Sam Walton wanted his employees to enjoy time with their families so
he would close Walmart on holidays for family time and employees who worked on Sunday s got paid
time and half (Walmart,2014). Sadly Mr. Sam died in 1992 leaving his company s legacy to others.
Sam Walton s humble store grew into a worldwide corporation and changed some of his visions.
Walmart currently employees 22,000,000 people in 27 different countries. (Walmart, 2014). Walmart

The Day My Little Sister
Looking back on life, there are many little moments that stand out. Some, more than others, have
shaped you in a way that changed the trajectory of your life. These moments can be anything, walking
left may have saved you from being mugged, choosing the wrong car can get you stranded in the
middle of nowhere. These little choices and events have a way of forming how we are going to live
our lives. There are days that are more important than others, however, for me only one comes to
mind. The day my little sister, Emily, was born is the most important day of my existence, this day
altered my life for the better. When I was an only child, I never felt lonesome. I was constantly the
center of attention. When I was not with my parents, I was with my Ma and Pa my grandparents I
could do anything I wanted to do, because they allowed it. Although, I always had a small suspicion
that I was missing out on something. My friends had younger siblings, as I observed their interactions
I discovered what I was missing out on. I exhausted myself for hours trying to determine if I wanted a
brother or a sister. Eventually, after thinking it over I implored my parents for a little sister. Years later,
my parents told me they were frightened of my reaction if I happened to get a brother. Nonetheless, I
got precisely what I wanted. Emily was born on a bright Friday morning. I was there the entire time,
amusing myself with my life sized baby doll as I sat in the waiting room. I wanted to help

In this study, we did the first validation for Hepa Index (a relatively new biomarkers panel for
assessment of hepatic fibrosis) against liver biopsy in chronic hepatitis C. Hepa Index showed good
sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, for predicting significant hepatic
fibrosis, severe hepatic fibrosis, and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis C patients. Hepa Index performance
is almost equal to the performance of different patented and non patented noninvasive panels for
assessment of hepatic fibrosis (FibroTest, FibroMeters, HepaScore, and APRI) which is reported to
have an AUROCs ranging from 0.72 to 0.78 for detection of significant fibrosis and 0.77 to 0.86 for
detection of cirrhosis [20]. Hepa Index as a serum biomarker panel carry the advantages of patented
and expensive serum fibrosis biomarkers in addition to being free of charge and accurate in classifying
significant hepatic fibrosis, advanced hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. One more advantage of Hepa

The Importance Of Gross Motor Development
Motor skills involve movement of muscle in the body (John, 2009). These are larger movements such
as crawling, running, and jumping (John, 2009). Most of the gross motor development occurs during
childhood (John, 2009). Gross motor skills have two principals that determent how a child will
regularly develop (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). Head to toe development this
means the upper parts of the body will develop before the lower parts of the body (John, 2009).
Children develop these skills throughout play (John, 2009). A tree year old Toddler can be very active
therefore participating in activity that require movement, coordination, and balance can be beneficial
to help a toddler to develop their motor skills (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child can throw a
ball but catching it is more difficult. They start walking with good posture similar to an adult; they can
also walk backwards (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old can run which required strength and
balance, during running they should be able to rotate their trunk and swing their arms (John, 2009). By
the age of 3 a child walks up and down stairs alternating their feet without support which is possible
because their balance has increase (John, 2009). A 3 year old child also learns to jump from a step and
learn to jump forward (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). They start hopping at the
age of 3 ½ and also can stand on one foot (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). Skipping
requires sequencing and rhythm which makes it more difficult this include step and hop patterns. Fine
Motor Fine motor skills are the movements made with the small muscle of the hand (Jan, Beth
Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child gets better in their fine motor skill (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). They
are able to move their fingers independently and have better spatial awareness; therefore, these
children can engage in more complex tasks such as using a scissor, the first cutting skills start at the
age of 3 (John, 2009). Children of this age should be able to unbutton a shirt or eat with a fork without
assistance (John, 2009). They can also complete and insert puzzle pieces, picking up small objects
with the thumb and

A Separate Peace Finny Character Analysis
In adolescence, most of us eventually let go of some or most of the innocence we have. A rosy outlook
on life is normally reserved for childhood, yet it is what defines Phineas character in the novel A
Separate Peace by John Knowles. It defines him, even as a teenager, in his high school years at Devon,
an elite boarding school. Furthermore, his innocence defines his relationships with others, particularly
his friend and roommate, Gene. Finny wanted the world to be black and white, and to see the very best
in people, despite the complications he saw in life. It was a vital part of who he was and the legacy
that he left behind. Finny was a purist at heart, and disliked any form of conflict, and both of these

explains this to Phineas, saying, Finny... Phineas, you wouldn t be any good in the war, even if nothing
had happened to your leg, (pg. 190). Finny was the kind of boy that didn t engage in any form of
hostility, and because of that, he wouldn t be suited for any situation involving it. Gene was forced to
realize this as well. Finny didn t have any form of malice within him, he just didn t think that way.
However, he did ultimately have to realize that there was conflict in the world, and between him and
Gene. That was the difficult part of never seeing anything as a competition nor anyone as an enemy.

A Study On High School
High school senior Timothy Williams woke to the sound of wind scraping the desert sand across a
glass pane of his third floor Samarra Hotel room. In the pitch black room, he rolled over to see the
nightstand. A digital clock showed the current time at 9:37AM.
Tim thought to himself, Shit!
Their buffet breakfast began at nine.
They were running late.
Tim hated the thought for being late, for anything.
Tim pushed his back upwardly, propping up his elbows to survey his modest surroundings. The Hotel
Samarra room had two twin beds, divided by a nightstand and a wobbly brass lamp. A dresser sat
nearby the foot of Tim s bed with a 1980 s Sylvania TV/VCR combo set. Across from the dresser was
a raggedy desk and chair, nearest the entrance.
It reminded Williams of a motel accommodation. Which was fine, he just hoped that the Minister
Mike s New Oasis Church wasn t paying big bucks for such arrangements, although the Hotel boasted
its safety.
Tim pondered, Could anyone actually be safe in this place?
However, the darkness outside made Tim s mind questioned to himself, Was this an eclipse?
Or am I m dreaming?
Or is the time off?
Another gust pelted the glass. This time it caused his roommate, Kwan Shin, to moan from his deep
slumber.
Kwan turned over to face Tim s direction.
Shin s plump limbs were tangled among linen.
That noise. Please. Stop it, Kwan spoke, half asleep.

The Impact Of The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall divided Germany into the East and West because of opposing ideas of the future for
Germany. Germany was weak and pliable after barely surviving Nazi Germany, so the vulnerable
country could have been formed into anything and the major powers knew this. The Soviet Union
wanted a communist Germany and the major democracies America, Britain, and France wanted a
democratic Germany. Because of these opposing ideas, Germany was split into the East and West,
each living an entirely different life depending on the country of influence. When the Berlin Wall fell,
though, neither side was as it was before; the country had changed in almost every way. This essay
analyzes how the Berlin Wall changed Germany, focusing on Berlin, in many different aspects and
lenses. The essay will examine how the people, the economy, the government, religion, and literature
were affected by this great divide. This essay will also explain how America influenced German
culture through integrating Western culture during the Wall in the West and after the Wall in both
sides. To what extent was Germany, especially Berlin, similar and different politically, economically,
and culturally from how it was before the Berlin Wall was built to when it was torn down?

Finding Your Place in High School
Why fit in when you can stand out? You have been told this your whole life. But whose responsibility
is it to find out where you fit in, yours? Or your peers? Your adolescent years are all about trying to
not stand out, and trying just as hard to fit in with the in crowd. You use more energy trying to fit in,
instead of just spending all your energy on being who you really are. A group of friends are suppose to
have things in common, but that is hard when everyone is putting up a fake persona. It is the student

They are to busy trying to be someone they are not. During his poetry reading Shane Koyczan argues,
We are expected to define ourselves and if we did not do it others would do it for us, (Shane

to find yourself? In high school, if you let kids define who you are then you are their robot. You are no
longer yourself, you are a programmed version of what they want you to be. In Kindergarten, you
become friends with people who have the same kind of markers as you, or the kid that has your

with them just because you think they are popular. As the years go on this theory starts to diminish.
Unlike Kindergarten you start to differentiate between the kids who are popular and the kids who want

with each other. They put on these fake personas to make it look like they are all perfect and have so
much in common. When in reality they are all strangers to each other. Over this past year, I have

A Research Paper On Lyme Disease
Lyme Disease I chose to do my research paper on Lyme disease. During my research, I found a lot of
interesting facts about Lyme disease. The disease is caused by bacteria, called Borrelia burgdorferi,
which is only transmitted to humans when they are bitten by an infected tick. Lyme disease was first
discovered in 1975, in Lyme, Connecticut, after a group of children were diagnosed with juvenile
rheumatoid arthritis. This eventually led them to discover the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. The
disease was given its name in 1982, after the town of Lyme, Connecticut. According to Center for
Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease is the most commonly reported vectorborne illness in
the United States. In 2014, it was the fifth most common Nationally Notifiable disease. Lyme disease
is most prevalent in the northeast and upper Midwest. Your chances of acquiring Lyme disease can be
greatly affected by where you live or travel to. Many outdoor activities put you at risk. Since deer
ticks feed on mice and white tailed deer, they are most commonly found in heavily wooded areas.
Another risk factor of Lyme disease is having exposed skin. Since ticks attach easily to bare skin,
being exposed in wooded or grassy areas will increase your risk. If you are bitten by a tick, the final
chance of prevention is to remove the tick quickly and properly. In most cases, to infect it s host, a tick
must remain attached to the skin for at least thirty six hours. If you safely remove the tick

Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi
The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi
fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee,
the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the
floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He
was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his
habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he
pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a
bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and
mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass
floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the
middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose.
Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead.
(Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose
named Rikki tikki tavi. This mammal is one of the great fighters of the dreaded cobras, and in this
story, the Rulers of the garden. The book

Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and
social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the
novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men and
women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283) This
bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to truly
understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is ostensibly
simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught to be women,
by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition of a woman. She
exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It is here that little
girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the
mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses
and caresses; the little girl continues to be doted upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from
birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating
girls with more affection and delicacy. In another example, she states, The boy is also brought up by
his mother in the beginning; but she respects his maleness

  • 3. Maternity Insurance Coverage One of the most important things that you shall know if you are pregnant is whether or not you have maternity insurance coverage. These days, it is very expensive to give birth. You have to think of the doctor s fees, hospital bills, medications, and so on. After giving birth, the expenses do not stop there. You still have to think about the baby s expense as he or she is growing up. This is why it is important to think of ways to minimize your pregnancy expenses as much as possible. Maternity coverage is not an insurance policy on its own. It is usually covered as a rider benefit in your health insurance. When choosing health insurance, be sure to choose something that has maternity coverage. To know more about pregnancy coverage, you need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could include prenatal care or outpatient monthly checkups with your doctor. It could also include hospital bills, doctor s fee, and medications. Some women who gave birth and have good insurance policies do not have to pay anything. It is important to choose the right kind of insurance policy that gives you more coverage at the most affordable price. 3) Considerations When choosing health insurance, you have to choose something that has maternity insurance. If you already have health insurance without pregnancy coverage, you can talk with your insurance provider and ask them what you can do about it. They can add maternity coverage to your insurance or you can shift to a different plan with maternity coverage. You have to apply for pregnancy insurance when you are still in the process of getting pregnant. It may be more difficult to get approval for your application if you are applying when you are already pregnant. Another consideration is to find affordable health insurance policies that require you to pay reasonable premiums but with good coverage. If you are employed in a good company, you do not have to worry about getting yourself health insurance with pregnancy coverage because the company is required to do this for their employees, but if you are self employed, you need to take care of these things ... • 4. The Old Testament And The New Covenant Introduction With the writing of the New Testament and the New Covenant, many Christians wonder if they are still obligated to follow the writings of the Old Testament, specifically the Mosaic Law. Romans helps to answer this question. Paul writes in Romans that the Christian is no longer under Old Testament or Mosaic Law, but is now under Christ s Law (Rom 7:6 ) and that justification by faith, not works under the law is what will make a man righteous (Rom 3:28). This does not mean that the Christian should completely disregard the Scripture, for as it is written in 2 Timothy, all Scripture is from God and is good for teaching, however, Christians need to have a better understanding of the law they are now to live by. The Mosaic Law still has a useful purpose, and is still good to know, it is just no longer the rule of Christian life. Is The Old Testament Important? Since Christian s have the New Testament, is the Old Testament and its teachings even still important? Is there anything of value to be gained from reading it? Absolutely. Again, as stated in 2 Timothy, all Scripture is from God and is important for teaching. There is much to be learned from the Old Testament. Paul cited the Old Testament extensively in his writings in Romans. Paul s thesis for the entire book of Romans, Chapter 1:16 17 refers to Habakkuk 2:4 with a literal translation of his writing being the righteous (or, just) person from faith will live. He saw the importance of the Old Testament ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Discipleship In The Gospels Of John And Luke-Acts Each of the four Gospels contains points in ecclesiology. In the Great Commission, Jesus last instruction to the Apostles is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching people (Matthew 28:19 20). For Jesus mission to continue and for his Church to grow, discipleship is necessary. Discipleship is a prominent theme in all four Gospels, for purposes of this essay, only the Gospels of John and Luke Acts will be analyzed. The similarities regarding discipleship in these Gospels include images of the net and fishing, and the sheep/shepherd/sheepfold. The differences include the preparing of the Twelve to carry on Jesus ministry in Luke, and service to the community and passing of authority in John s Gospel. According to Matera, Luke Acts is a well defined set of time periods. The Gospel is considered the time of Jesus and Acts is the time of the Church. The time of Jesus in Luke s Gospel foreshadows the Church (Matera, 7). As stated in Stanton, Luke set out the story of Jesus as a prelude to the story of the origin and growth of the early Church (Stanton, 80). John, on the other hand, focuses on Christology and the teachings of Jesus to the community (Matera, 9). Both Gospels contain strong references to discipleship, which form the basis for the Church. In both Luke and John, fishing and the image of the net allude to discipleship. In Luke Chapter 5, the disciples have fished all night and returned the next morning with nothing. Innovation Through Source Analysis For The Classroom Innovation through Source Analysis If teachers want to revolutionize the way that history or social studies is taught in the classroom, they must move away from the idea that history is a series of facts that need to be taught to students. Instead of simply giving students the answers to historical questions, teachers must impart the practice of historical inquiry to their students. This ability to think like a historian allows students to be active participants in all history lessons. Such a revolutionary transformation is only possible if teachers generate innovative lessons that propagate historical analysis in the classroom. At the same time, teachers are expected to adhere to the Common Core standards that require students to be able to read, understand, and utilize complex informational texts (80). In order to transform history in the classroom and adhere to these Common Core Standards, it is important that teachers understand the importance of source analysis in lessons, know how to choose and create age appropriate adapted sources, and successfully incorporate such lessons into larger units that ensure students learn to think historically. To ensure that students are able to engage in the practices utilized by historians, teachers must provide students with the proper tools to do so. Since historical thinking takes practice, students need materials to practice with. Primary sources offer the perfect opportunity for such practice. In fact, according to ... • 9. William W. Cape Jr. The art of rhetoric comes in many different ways, practices, and ideals, but was ultimately started by the Ancient Greeks and adopted by the later Romans. Robert W. Cape Jr. not only explores the connection between the two, but also analyzes Cicero, an ancient Roman, and his ideology that suggested orators being the best qualified to write and present history correctly, both singularly and through the use of rhetoric. The article Cape published, Persuasive History: Roman Rhetoric and Historiography , analyzes Cicero s main argument of entrusting orators with history s immortality through his interpreted citations, Latin semantics, his affinity to his own intellectual means, and a nonexistent chorus. Historiography, better known as the study of historical writing or the writing of history, is exactly what Cape emphasizes with this article. He has a long, running list of sources that he uses, but a majority of them are an interpretation of some kind. For example, instead of directly sourcing Cicero s De Oratore, Cape cites The Structure of De Oratore from Michel and Verdière instead. By studying the concrete source, especially from ancient times, and the interpretations years after, an author can come to his or her own conclusion and clarification. Because of the time lapse between modern and ancient, primary research is almost always nonexistent, meanwhile secondary research is typically the go to for written history. The book, Meditations of First Philosophy, consist of six meditations and describes one meditation per day for six days. In meditation two, he claims that we have better knowledge of our own minds than of the physical world. This proclamation has sparked debates between countless philosophers for centuries. In meditation two, Descartes wax argument is an observation and an essential part of how he develops his theory of the mind and body being separate from each other. It begins by Descartes taking a piece of fresh wax and describing it. He describes the wax through his sensory perception of it. He describes the faint taste of honey, the smell of flowers, the yellow coloring, the cool to the touch, and the sound it makes when it is tapped. He takes all of these sensory perceptions and understands it to be a piece of wax. He then melts the wax. When the wax melted it eliminated all of the qualities he perceived it to have through his senses. When the wax melted the taste was gone, the smell and color were gone. It no longer made a sound when touched and it was now hot instead of cool. The wax was no longer the same. It was now different. Even though the wax does not look the same as it ... I was constantly the center of attention. When I was not with my parents, I was with my Ma and Pa my grandparents I could do anything I wanted to do, because they allowed it. Although, I always had a small suspicion that I was missing out on something. My friends had younger siblings, as I observed their interactions I discovered what I was missing out on. I exhausted myself for hours trying to determine if I wanted a brother or a sister. Eventually, after thinking it over I implored my parents for a little sister. Years later, my parents told me they were frightened of my reaction if I happened to get a brother. Nonetheless, I got precisely what I wanted. Emily was born on a bright Friday morning. I was there the entire time, amusing myself with my life sized baby doll as I sat in the waiting room. I wanted to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Hepatitis C Mono Our study included hundred treatment naïve Egyptian patients with chronic hepatitis C mono infection (67%, males and 33% females); their mean age (± SD) was 40.29 years (± 10.98). Significant fibrosis (≥ F2) was present in 62 patients, advanced fibrosis (≥ F3) was present in 24 patients and cirrhosis (F4) was present in 11 patients, other general characteristics of the study population are summarized in table 1. Although their use is limited by being non specific for the liver [19] and cost associated with patented tests [5]; they are well validated [20], they have good reproducibility and can be done in outpatient clinics [21]. In this study, we did the first validation for Hepa Index (a relatively new biomarkers panel for assessment of hepatic fibrosis) against liver biopsy in chronic hepatitis C. Hepa Index showed good sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, for predicting significant hepatic fibrosis, severe hepatic fibrosis, and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis C patients. Hepa Index performance is almost equal to the performance of different patented and non patented noninvasive panels for assessment of hepatic fibrosis (FibroTest, FibroMeters, HepaScore, and APRI) which is reported to have an AUROCs ranging from 0.72 to 0.78 for detection of significant fibrosis and 0.77 to 0.86 for detection of cirrhosis [20]. Hepa Index as a serum biomarker panel carry the advantages of patented and expensive serum fibrosis biomarkers in addition to being free of charge and accurate in classifying significant hepatic fibrosis, advanced hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. One more advantage of Hepa Index over currently available tests like APRI, FIB 4, Forns index, FibroTest and FibroMeter is absence of transaminases (ALT and AST) in its formula which may lead to false positive results in acute ... • 30. The Importance Of Gross Motor Development Motor skills involve movement of muscle in the body (John, 2009). These are larger movements such as crawling, running, and jumping (John, 2009). Most of the gross motor development occurs during childhood (John, 2009). Gross motor skills have two principals that determent how a child will regularly develop (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). Head to toe development this means the upper parts of the body will develop before the lower parts of the body (John, 2009). Children develop these skills throughout play (John, 2009). A tree year old Toddler can be very active therefore participating in activity that require movement, coordination, and balance can be beneficial to help a toddler to develop their motor skills (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child can throw a ball but catching it is more difficult. They start walking with good posture similar to an adult; they can also walk backwards (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old can run which required strength and balance, during running they should be able to rotate their trunk and swing their arms (John, 2009). By the age of 3 a child walks up and down stairs alternating their feet without support which is possible because their balance has increase (John, 2009). A 3 year old child also learns to jump from a step and learn to jump forward (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). They start hopping at the age of 3 ½ and also can stand on one foot (Center of diseases Control and Prevention, 2016). Skipping requires sequencing and rhythm which makes it more difficult this include step and hop patterns. Fine Motor Fine motor skills are the movements made with the small muscle of the hand (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). A 3 year old child gets better in their fine motor skill (Jan, Beth Melissa, 2012). They are able to move their fingers independently and have better spatial awareness; therefore, these children can engage in more complex tasks such as using a scissor, the first cutting skills start at the age of 3 (John, 2009). Children of this age should be able to unbutton a shirt or eat with a fork without assistance (John, 2009). They can also complete and insert puzzle pieces, picking up small objects with the thumb and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. A Study On High School High school senior Timothy Williams woke to the sound of wind scraping the desert sand across a glass pane of his third floor Samarra Hotel room. In the pitch black room, he rolled over to see the nightstand. A digital clock showed the current time at 9:37AM. Tim thought to himself, Shit! Their buffet breakfast began at nine. They were running late. Tim hated the thought for being late, for anything. Tim pushed his back upwardly, propping up his elbows to survey his modest surroundings. The Hotel Samarra room had two twin beds, divided by a nightstand and a wobbly brass lamp. A dresser sat nearby the foot of Tim s bed with a 1980 s Sylvania TV/VCR combo set. Across from the dresser was a raggedy desk and chair, nearest the entrance. It reminded Williams of a motel accommodation. Which was fine, he just hoped that the Minister Mike s New Oasis Church wasn t paying big bucks for such arrangements, although the Hotel boasted its safety. Tim pondered, Could anyone actually be safe in this place? However, the darkness outside made Tim s mind questioned to himself, Was this an eclipse? Or am I m dreaming? Or is the time off? Another gust pelted the glass. This time it caused his roommate, Kwan Shin, to moan from his deep slumber. Kwan turned over to face Tim s direction. Shin s plump limbs were tangled among linen. • 34. The Impact Of The Berlin Wall The Berlin Wall divided Germany into the East and West because of opposing ideas of the future for Germany. Germany was weak and pliable after barely surviving Nazi Germany, so the vulnerable country could have been formed into anything and the major powers knew this. The Soviet Union wanted a communist Germany and the major democracies America, Britain, and France wanted a democratic Germany. Because of these opposing ideas, Germany was split into the East and West, each living an entirely different life depending on the country of influence. When the Berlin Wall fell, though, neither side was as it was before; the country had changed in almost every way. This essay analyzes how the Berlin Wall changed Germany, focusing on Berlin, in many different aspects and lenses. The essay will examine how the people, the economy, the government, religion, and literature were affected by this great divide. This essay will also explain how America influenced German culture through integrating Western culture during the Wall in the West and after the Wall in both sides. To what extent was Germany, especially Berlin, similar and different politically, economically, and culturally from how it was before the Berlin Wall was built to when it was torn down? A Background The Nazi regime ended on 7 May 1945 when a German delegate went to Eisenhower s headquarters in France and they both signed the surrender documents, ending World War II in Europe. If you waste all this energy trying to fit in with the in crowd, then where is the energy used to find yourself? In high school, if you let kids define who you are then you are their robot. You are no longer yourself, you are a programmed version of what they want you to be. In Kindergarten, you become friends with people who have the same kind of markers as you, or the kid that has your favorite power ranger on their shirt. You actually have things in common, you do not become friends with them just because you think they are popular. As the years go on this theory starts to diminish. • 37. A Research Paper On Lyme Disease Lyme Disease I chose to do my research paper on Lyme disease. During my research, I found a lot of interesting facts about Lyme disease. The disease is caused by bacteria, called Borrelia burgdorferi, which is only transmitted to humans when they are bitten by an infected tick. Lyme disease was first discovered in 1975, in Lyme, Connecticut, after a group of children were diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. This eventually led them to discover the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. The disease was given its name in 1982, after the town of Lyme, Connecticut. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease is the most commonly reported vectorborne illness in the United States. In 2014, it was the fifth most common Nationally Notifiable disease. Lyme disease is most prevalent in the northeast and upper Midwest. Your chances of acquiring Lyme disease can be greatly affected by where you live or travel to. Many outdoor activities put you at risk. Since deer ticks feed on mice and white tailed deer, they are most commonly found in heavily wooded areas. Another risk factor of Lyme disease is having exposed skin. Since ticks attach easily to bare skin, being exposed in wooded or grassy areas will increase your risk. If you are bitten by a tick, the final chance of prevention is to remove the tick quickly and properly. In most cases, to infect it s host, a tick must remain attached to the skin for at least thirty six hours. If you safely remove the tick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Summary Of The Great Storytellingki-Tikki Tavi The Great Rikki tikki tavi Bravery has many characters and one mammal has them all. Rikki tikki tavi fought single handed, through the bathrooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the muskrat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki tikki did the real fighting. He was a mongoose, rather like a little cat in his fur and his tail but quite like a weasel in his head and his habits. His eyes and the end of his restless nose were pink; he could scratch himself anywhere he pleased with any leg, front or back, that he chose to use; he could fluff up his tail till it looked like a bottle. One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and mother and carried him, kicking and clucking, down a roadside ditch. He found a little wisp of grass floating there and clung to it till he lost his senses. When he revived, he was lying in the hot sun in the middle of a garden path, very draggled indeed, and a small boy was saying: Here s a dead mongoose. Let s have a funeral. No, said his mother; let s take him in and dry him. Perhaps he isn t really dead. (Kipling 143) The book by Rudyard Kipling and the movie Rikki tikki tavi is about a mongoose named Rikki tikki tavi. • 39. Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men and women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283) This bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to truly understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is ostensibly simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught to be women, by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition of a woman. She exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It is here that little girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses and caresses; the little girl continues to be doted upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating girls with more affection and delicacy. In another example, she states, The boy is also brought up by his mother in the beginning; but she respects his maleness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
