Wright Brothers Evolution
After the motor car was invented the world thought they could do just about anything. Men had
always dreamed of taking to the sky and soaring like birds, now they could. On December171903 in
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina this dream became a reality when the Wright Brothers, Orville and
Wilbur, discovered a way to fly, making the world a little bigger. With the invention of the first flying
machine and their investigation into aeronautics, the Wright Brothers, paved the way for the future of
flight. During their investigation the Wright Brothers faced many problems, but they plowed through
and achieved their goal within four years. The airplane opened up many possibilities and exploration
was happening like never before! Goods could be exchanged ... Show more content on

Their father was afraid of losing them both in a plane crash and made them promise that they would
never fly together. However, on May251910, the brothers flew a 6 minute flight together. Orville
piloted this momentous flight. After they landed, Orville took his 82 year old father on his first and
last flight. While Orville gained elevation, Milton cried out, After their successful flight, the Wright
brothers approached the governments of England, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States War
Department. After a few private sales, the War Department commissioned a plane in 1907. With this
purchase, the Brothers opened up a school to teach pilots about the airplane. The first of these schools
was established in Montgomery, Alabama on March151910. After receiving the schooling, these pilots
were then able to instruct future pilots. In 1909, the French government also bought a plane with the
condition that could have one that could carry a passenger. The brothers quickly went to work and
added an additional seat and increased the power of the motor. Aviation was beginning to take flight!
Flight has expanded the world s horizon. Through flight we can now travel in a matter of minutes
what used to take days. We are able to reach destinations which were once unreachable. During the
first trip to the moon, Neil Armstrong carried a piece of the Wright Flyer with him, symbolizing the
enormous impact that the Brothers had as pioneers of flight to him and those that would follow. The
Wright Brothers were ordinary people who followed their dream. They never gave up and laid the
foundation for aviation. Pioneers in the truest sense. The airplane, we have come to realize, has
changed how we think and live. We know SO much more because of this brilliant invention. The
airplane has and will forever influence our

Comparison Between Fixed Cost And Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group
Fixed Cost On the other hand Dr. Pepper Snapple Group does have a large number of fixed cost. Fixed
costs are cost that are constant and must be paid no matter what level of the activity is chosen. DP has
over 21 manufacturing centers and 115 distribution centers around the world, according to Dr. Pepper
Snapple Group s annual report. This means that DP is paying rent on a large number of buildings,
leasing our buying equipment that they use at these facilities in order to produce DP. Those are
example of fixed cost, cost that have to be paid no matter what, this also means that if you have a bad
year and your company did not make as much as it did the year before you still have to pay for the
rent and utilities on all of those facilities.
Variable Cost Unlike fixed cost variable cost you have some room to play, variable cost is all about

How Do Plows Affect Society
Heavy plough accounts for more than 10% of the increase in population density and urbanization
during the high middle ages (Anderson). Plows are a large farming implement with multiple blades
used to cut rows of any type of soil. It can be pulled by a tractor or animals for the purpose to prepare
for planting seeds the coming seasons. In the beginning, plows were never here, people use to have
one making plenty of holes going through the same process. First they would find a strong stick with a
point on it, push it into the ground, drop a seed into the hole, and cover with loose dirt and water.
Although plows have helped society with better time, efficiency, plows makes more of a negative
impact on society because less farmland, multiple machines for one job, and a maximum capacity
increase. Having less farmland it makes a negative impact on society. Farming less pushes a negative
pressure on people to tear down wooden environments. 3.5 billion to 7 billion trees are cut down per
year (Rainforest Action Network). Which limits the amount of oxygen that is supplied to humans,

Skeletal Muscle Icad
In this study, we have developed an ICAD scheme to automatically segment and compute the Psoas
muscle at the level L3 of the vertebral spine as well as computing and demonstrating different tissues
in the skeletal muscle which are very crucial for clinical researchers to make a good analysis. In order
to process the ICAD scheme, different stages should be followed such as finding the CT slice which
contains the level of L3, determining the region of interest, segmenting the muscle with the use of
region growing algorithm, and computing and determining different tissues in the skeletal muscle by
applying a different threshold. Various stages of this ICAD scheme are described in the following

Parental Collaboration And Early Childhood Special...
PARENTAL COLLABORATION IN EARLY INTERVENTION AND EARLY CHILDHOOD
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Parents frequently feel extremely defenceless when they start to utilize early interventions and
administrations; now and again solid emotions are near to the surface. Professionals ought to be
mindful of this and appreciate these sentiments. The principal assignment of any parent is to build up
a profoundly adoring, commonly fulfilling, and sustaining association with his or her youngster; the
aggregate child. This is critical for the purpose of both the child and the parent. Being a guardian is
fundamentally about being involved with their child.
The attributes of such a relationship are the parent must have a positive perspective of the child. They
must acknowledge and be fulfilled by, even commend, the youngster for who they are. The paternal
must get delight from the association with the child. The caretaker must feel skilful in the relationship.
Entry into the Early Intervention Program Short of having your child bite the dust, there is nothing
more pulverizing to a parent than to be informed that there is something the matter with your child;
your youngster is not ordinary. Parents contribution is a faith in the estimation of association that is
imparted by administration suppliers and families. The admission methodology is a troublesome time
for families as they are requested that distinguish and location their youngster s deficiencies. A few

Motherhood Stereotypes
The Market on Motherhood: How Stereotypes and Statistics Perpetuate Labour Market Inequality
Homo heterosexual wage differentials could also arise from the discriminatory consequences of
profiling, or statistical discrimination. Statistical discrimination occurs when an individual is treated
on the basis of their membership of a group racial, sexual, socioeconomical, or otherwise and
knowledge of that group s average characteristics. Thus, unless there is evidence which suggests
otherwise, an individual is considered as the average person of the group to which they belong. In its
essence, statistical discrimination is an efficient solution to an incomplete information problem,
occurring only when employers possess limited information about the true productivity of job
applicants, and have to rely on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working mothers are a regular target for statistical discrimination and motherhood, linked with a per
child wage penalty of approximately 5%, (Correll, Benard, Paik, 2007), is widely understood to be
one of the worst career moves a woman can make (Miller, 2014). Mothers are frequently perceived as
less competent employees, are thought to be less committed to their jobs, and are more likely to
receive wage, hiring, and promotional penalties for having children (Correll, Benard, Paik, 2007).
Contemporary norms only worsen the current situation: as women are socialised to prioritise
caregiving and childrearing over their careers, employers become more and more hesitant to hire
them, since they predict that they will be less likely to honour workplace commitments and more
prone to leaving their jobs in the future (Schneebaum, 2013). The opposite is true for men: most
fathers are perceived as stable, reliable, and dedicated employees largely because employers expect
them to be less flaky (Miller, 2014)

Comparing The Seafarer And Wife s Lament
The Exeter poems are a compilation of poems and stories written in Old English, from the Anglo
Saxons. Three of these poems have gained special notoriety: The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and Wife s
Lament . Each of these poems have a bleak tone to them, and they speak of wandering and loss,
whether it s an emotional or physical loss. Both of the speakers in The Seafarer and The Wanderer feel
emotional loss and sadness while at sea, but believe that by being faithful and continuing on their
earthly journey, they will, in the end, achieve true happiness. The wife in Wife s Lament has suffered
the physical loss of her husband, and the loss of acceptance in her community, but unlike the previous
two poems, she does not seem to think she can achieve happiness. Three messages, or themes, from

It is fairly obvious that each of these three speakers are suffering, though in different ways. The
speaker in The Seafarer suffers from loneliness and a prolonged feeling of despair as he spends his
winter at sea, which is miserable. He feels as if he has no friends, and is truly lonely. The speaker in
The Wanderer is scarcely different. He is also at sea due to exile, and he blames his suffering on the
loneliness and rejection he feels from kinsmen. He is also friendless and lonely, like the previous
speaker, and isn t sure on how to continue on. The wife in Wife s Lament suffers as well. Her husband
has wandered away, and she grieves his absence. She also grieves over her feeling lonely and without
friends, as she was left behind while her husband wandered. The Exeter poems each has a distinct
sense of suffering coming from each of the

With the increase in reproductive health medicine and technology, an increase for the global standard

becoming more and more of a priority. Topics such as abortion and form of contraception are highly

This will help prevent infant fatalities, infant malnourishment, and maternal fatality during birth.
C. Indonesia s proposition to achieve these goals and to provide global access to reproductive health
services is quite simple. The committee should make a resolution which requires governments to
create and fund a board which is given the task to provide the citizens of the country (ranging from
youths to young adults to adults to the elderly) with adequate education in relation to sexual
intercourse and the consequences of intercourse and all other sex related issues. The board would also
provide various contraceptives for either free (funds permitting) or as discounted as possible. The
board would have to provide various contraceptives in order to meet the standards of the individual
receiving the contraception s religious beliefs. This would help significantly reduce sexual related
problems seen in today s world, such as abortion, STDs, and unwanted pregnancy.

Martin Scorsese s The Departed Essays
The Departed, a film written by William Monahan, Alan Mak, and Felix Chong, directed by Martin
Scorsese, was in my opinion a spectacular crime thriller deserving of less criticism from overly
sentimental viewers. Though this film is in some scenes brutal and vicious, I praise Martin Scorsese s
refusal to cower away from the undeniable truth that organized crime in the United States is
murderous in nature just to satisfy certain viewers as critics advocated he should. Being a four time
Oscar winning film with sixty three other awards for numerous aspects in the movie industry, I don t
believe anyone can contradict that The Departed is profoundly unforgettable to masses of moviegoers.

All of the characters presented in the movie have a distinct personality, making the viewer engage
deeply in the heart pumping action and drama. But the actor is nothing without the writer, and not by
any means is The Departed lacking in storyline. As you watch The Departed, Colin Sullivan (Damon)
and Billy Costigan s (DiCaprio) storylines become increasingly in depth and intertwined. Starting
when Colin Sullivan is just a child and his encounter with Frank Costello s mentorship, the story then
fast forwards to Costigan and Colin working their way through police training and eventually
amounting to Costigan undercover and Colin as a detective. The side by side comparison of their lives
adds to distinct feelings about the characters. The two rats continually work against each other and
narrowly miss seeing each other s faces, even dating the same girl, Madolyn (Verna Farmiga). This
suspense draws watchers to the edge of their seats with anticipation for the conclusion of the movie.
Phenomenal Acting and a jaw dropping storyline are the foremost reasons why The Departed is by all
means a spectacular movie. This film will go down as one of the best crime thrillers of the 21th

around making twists and turns never expected. Some may question the vulgar language and intense
violence but if you are a person who s easily offended, simply do

Inner Ring Essay

Alex Arroyo
Professor Ledri Aguilar

Inner Rings and the Motives that Come Along C.S Lewis delivered a speech named The Inner Ring at
King s College, a University in London. As Lewis continues on in his speech, one may be a little
thrown off by what these inner rings are and what exactly they mean to people. Although Lewis
mentions both good and harmful inner rings, one could argue that most people find themselves so
caught up in these inner rings they do not even realize they are trying to be involved in them for the
wrong reasons. Some people strive to have a certain appearance that comes along with being involved
in these inner rings that they tend to forget what really is important to them. ... Show more content on

Some of these inner rings are the reason we have competition, jealously and spite in the world. It is
not right for one to feel left out just because they do not have certain traits or don t have the same
views as another. Lewis even acknowledges this with his passage, Unless you take measures to
prevent it, this desire is going to be one of the chief motives of your life, from the first day on which
you enter your profession until the day when you are too old to care (Lewis 152). An example of today
s inner ring would be fraternities at Colleges. People who aren t part of a certain fraternity would feel
left out when they see the Frat s doing activities only Frat members are allowed to do. This might
make one feel the need to fit in and do certain things they do not enjoy just to be accepted in a
fraternity. Although this particular example does not apply to everybody, it still does not hide these
inner rings because they can be found everywhere.

Another example of an inner ring existing is social class in itself. Rich hang out with the rich, poor
hang out with the poor. People obviously have different circumstances that make their social class rich
or poor, but the ring still exists. Lower class people feel left out when they see the upper class driving
nicer cars, eating expensive dinners, and living in expensive homes. While on the other end, lower
class workers are living pay check to

Brain Process Memory
The brain processes memory in three stages. Think of your brain like a computer. The first stage is
called encoding. The brain records usable information in your memory. The second stage is storage.
The brain uses that recordable information and stores it to be used later. The final stage is retrieval.
The brain the recovers that recordable information that was stored to use at a later date.
There are three types of memory: sensory, short term and long term. First, a split second memory of
sight, sound and other senses is sensory memory. Driving down the highway, I heard a car speeding
towards me. The car nearly side swiped me. I smelled the burnt rubber as it swerved to miss me. I
tried to quickly look at the license plate, but the car was driving fast. I caught a first glimpse of the
plate, but could not remember it. This is an example of sensory memory. Information that is not
retained is forgotten. The information that is retained is then stored in our short term memory.
Second, short term memory remains in the brain for a short period of time, maybe 25 seconds unless it
is reiterated over and over again to be preserved longer in the ... Show more content on

Long term memory can be stored permanently. If you review material for an extended period and it is
significantly important to you, it can be forever left in the memory then also tough to recover. Long
term memory has two parts. The first is declarative memory which consists of periods, details, etc. For
instance, I was born in November. It is an actual detail which makes it declarative memory.
Declarative memory is also distributed in semantic and episodic memory. Semantic memory is periods
or information about the world. Episodic memory is memory of occasions at a specific time, place or
setting. An occasion in my life that I remember is the first time I met my husband. The second is
procedural memory. How to drive a car is an example of procedural

Huge Divisions in Haiti Lead to Unrest
The ridged class, race and social structures in Haiti led to huge divisions in Haitian society and unrest.
The majority of the population were slaves and slavery played a massive role in the Haitian economy
and its abolishment had a massive impact. The events occurring in Europe, the French revolution for
example, led to the slave revolt and ultimately the independence of Haiti in 1804. The rebellion in
Haiti undoubtedly had an important role in world history.
Between 1756 and1763, the economy of Saint Domingue gradually expanded, sugar and coffee
becoming important export crops. The colony underwent rapid expansion during wars because it
brought about a lot of demand for resources. In 1767, it exported 72 million pounds of raw sugar and
51 million pounds of refined sugar, one million pounds of indigo, and two million pounds of cotton
[1]. Saint Domingue became known as the Pearl of Antilles and became one of the richest colonies in
the 18th century French empire. By the 1780 s Haiti was producing forty percent of all sugar and sixty
percent of all coffee consumed in Europe. It was the jewel of the French colonial economy and was
vital for their strength.
In 1789, a total of 500,000 African slaves were present in Haiti, working on plantations and were
being ruled by 32,000 white colonialists [2]. There were three major groups in the Haitian society,
which were determined by social status and race. At the top of the social hierarchy were the Grands

Luke 15 Analysis
The parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15 teaches us about God s desire to forgive us through the
gift of Reconciliation. Throughout the parable, the importance of relationship is highlighted and
through these relationships we understand God s desire for forgiveness. At each point of the parable,
relationships are tested and ultimately strengthened through love, mercy and compassion. He realised
his troubles and the situation he was then in were entirely due to his own actions and he came to the
understanding that he made many wrong choices and owned up to his deductions made to look like a
fool. He saw that he should have never left his father and should certainly never treat him the way he

community is how the father took his son and celebrated at his return, to show him that he is loved no

Postcolonial Writing In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is a modern example of postcolonial literature and is one of the
most influential pieces of its genre. Postcolonial writing presents important themes and lessons of
justice, equality, and freedom that can be applied to present times. It reminds us of how important our
freedoms are and why we need to protect them. The colonized write about their exploitation and show
how there is persecution in their colonized society. Postcolonial authors use specific methods to
undermine their colonizers and reveal their backward logic. Things Fall Apart has various examples of
meta narrative, decolonization struggles, and colonial discourse worked in throughout the novel.
Chinua Achebe s writing styles showcase these techniques to subvert his European colonizers.
Meta narrative is an important method that postcolonial authors use to show the colonizer s
intolerance in the way they structure their stories. These authors point out these strategic ways that
colonizers write so you can more easily see their bias and prejudice when addressing the colonized.
Things Fall Apart has many instances of meta narrative, both big and small.
One clear meta narrative example that Chinua Achebe writes: The story of this man who had killed a
messenger and hanged himself would make interesting reading. One could almost write a whole
chapter on him. Perhaps not a whole chapter but a reasonable paragraph, at any rate. There was so
much else to include, and one must be firm in

the place of work for the county residents.
While driving through your community, stop for coffee or have lunch in a neighborhood. Find a place
to eat where you can sit down as part of the community. You may want to walk around your
community as well so that you can explore it from both a driving perspective and a walking

Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
Amir Ayoub
Fordham University
Abstract
This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we
began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the
lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting
Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food
whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two,
three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the
food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do
things that have a positive outcome more.
Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation
This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a
neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time
this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant
conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior
and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors.

The Negative Effects Of Sign Language And Sign Language
Over the last few decades, baby sign language has been a consistent hot topic all around the world.
Parents are bringing American Sign Language into the home as tool to communicate with their infants
from a very early age. Despite controversial debates regarding how sign language can negatively
affect a child s development of speech, there have been findings that prove this to be untrue. Teaching
sign language to infants facilitates early communication skills and better interactions with the people
around them. The first argument supporting baby sign language addresses the ongoing debate that
argues teaching infants sign language delays his or her speech. Research has found just the opposite. A
study conducted by Goodwyn, Acredolo, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King (2017) has research findings that show sign language to be the earliest way a child can develop
language skills and connections. Creating a platform of common understanding to children at an early
age will help them initially and in the future. Initially, it exposes infants to language well before than
can speak which gives their brains an advantage when it is time to transition into speaking English. A
child s spoken language is the main goal, but baby sign language gives infants the opportunity to
communicate much earlier than their first word. The average baby speaks their first word around the
age of two, and the average infant being taught sign language can produce their first sign in under a
year. A study done by Bonvillian, Orlansky, and Novack observed 11 infants that were being taught
sign language. Their findings revealed that on average, the first sign was produced around eight and a
half months, and the earliest baby signed their first sign at five and a half months (Thompson, Cotnoir
Bichelman, McKerchar, Tate, Dancho, 2007). These numbers show one of the clear advantages of
baby sign language. The difference between an infant learning sign language and one who is not, is a
whole year of additional communication. It is hard enough for parents to identify the needs of their
baby, but sign language helps fill that void sooner. Pressure is taken off of both the baby and caregiver

A Brief Note On The And Its Effects On The Body
Section 1 Justifications
1. According to LeMone et al. (2014), hypovolemia is the decreased circulating blood volume . the
body will compensate by constricting blood vessels and raising heart rate, and if the volume is low
enough, shunting blood to vital areas (the brain, the heart) from less vital areas (skin, muscles,
digestive tract, even the kidneys.) according to Nolan, Pullinger, Bath, Oxford ( 2014), hypovolemia
can lead to hypovolemic shock; where a person can lose up to 20 percent of their blood or body fluid.
Shock occurs when blood pressure is low to the point where blood does not perfuse the organs and
stays low long enough that cells start to malfunction and die. Hypovolemic shock is a medical
emergency.

Narrative Essay On Try America
Try America. Who knew that this foreign land would be where a girl, sixteen years of age, would be
living, maybe, for the rest of her life. It had always been her dream to live in a house where it almost
looks like a palace compared to the houses back in her motherland. It had always been her dream to
stroll the streets of an unfamiliar place in luck to quench the burning thirst of adventure within her.
She loves the thought of adventure. She loves the thought of exploring a new world where many are
unfamiliar to her. To see a world where there are no dust rising from the filthy grounds like of those of
her former neighborhood. To see a world where the roads are as clean and smooth as a polished
obsidian. To see a world where the trees are as green as a peridot. That sixteen year old girl is me.
Strolling the streets of my former neighborhood had been fun and was an epic adventure. An
adventure to see children playing happily in the streets, conversations between mothers over their
worn down wooden fences, and fathers who are lazily sitting on a chair under a tree smoking a
cigarette. Those were the image that are embedded in my brain. From this neighborhood, I learned
how even in some troublesome circumstances, everyone helps each other. Considering everyone
knows who is who. Everyone is polite to each other. Everyone is kind. Their are some occasional
fights from idiotic hooligans but it always ends about an argument over a bottle of beer. Gazing at

School Lunch Essay
Skipping Dessert
When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every day
in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly
recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how
horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are
tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always
continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply
changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries.
Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet
fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can
understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch. Allowing the NSLP
to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their children would be
getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and malnutrition in the
United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices.
In the article School Lunches , the author discusses whether or not the government s National School
Lunch Program (NSLP) should be allowed to regulate what is served in school lunches. The NSLP is a

Aristotle on Courage Essay
In the 1939 movie classic, The Wizard of Oz, the Cowardly Lion is on a quest for the wizard to give
him courage. He is afraid of everything and anything. However, in Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics,
Aristotle believes that courage is possible for all individuals. To gain courage one must have the inner
qualities that will guide the courageous. The most important part of these qualities is to come to terms
with death itself. Also, there are views of courage that are falsely perceived because they appear to be
parallel with one another; nevertheless they are still very different.
One must have many different inner qualities in order to achieve courage. First, one must not be
concerned with death; death can be a beautiful thing. Aristotle ... Show more content on

Excessive fearlessness and exceeding confidence, nor exceeding fear and lack of confidence
(deficiency), does not make a courageous man. Aristotle talks about the courageous person, and that
person acts with the awareness of the concept of honor and expresses it in a manner that is
proportionate, knowing exactly what to really fear. Many different things can be frightening; one must
decipher these things the greater fear from the lesser for the sake of the beautiful. (Aristotle 49, Sachs)
To correctly aim at what is beautiful, one actively achieves moral virtue. The beautiful is the purest
form of beauty and Aristotle states that beautiful action comes from a beautiful character and aims at
beauty. Virtue aims at enduring fears and feeling confident with respect to rationality. Aristotle claims
that the courageous man may fear things that not everyone feels the need to fear, but he will endure
and overcome these fears and feel rationally confident.
To become a courageous individual however, it is crucial that one be able to comprehend the fact of
death. Dying is a beautiful thing when dying for defense and honor while facing real dangers that puts
one at risk. Aristotle writes, One would call courageous a person who is unafraid in the face of a
beautiful death. (48 49) This shows that Aristotle believes that the courageous person needs to stand
firm on their values or beliefs no matter what the repercussions are. If one so

Professional Codes And Standards Of Practice
In order to resolve any ethical issue, a certain approach to address the case is necessary to reach the
solution. Several of the most important techniques is to fully acknowledge the problem by gathering
all of the facts, using problem solving methods, and appealing to professional codes and standards of
practice. In this paper, the following scenario will be addressed and analyzed: Professor Xavier is a
tenured professor of engineering who teaches at a large institution as a licensed professional engineer.
One of his students, Jean Grey, tells him that during an exam for another class taught by Professor
Osterman, a classmate named Scott Summers apparently used his phone to take a picture of an exam
question and sent it to someone. Jean also tells Professor Xavier that she had informed Professor
Osterman about Scott, and then Professor Osterman spoke to Scott about his actions. However, Scott
did not face any further consequences resulting from his behavior. Given this situation, the actions of
each person will be discussed using ethical theories, along with the application of professional codes
of ethics to the responses of Professor Xavier and Professor Osterman, as well as applying the line
drawing method to discuss the ethical obligations of both professors. It is essential to point out the
actions of each individual in the scenario mentioned and discuss the ethics each person exhibits. It
begins with Jean Grey, who first reported the case of Scott Summers cheating on

Easter Island Collapse Essay
ABSTRACT Easter Island, also known by the indigenous name Rapa Nui, is a remote island in the
south Pacific Ocean located over 2000 miles off the coast of Chile and over 1250 miles from the
nearest Polynesian island. Easter Island is best known for the hundreds of statues scattered across the
island, largely because the question of how exactly these statues got to where they rest has stirred the
minds of many theorists since the island s discovery by the Dutch Admiral Roggeveen on Easter
Sunday of 1722. This very mystery is considered a pillar in Jared Diamond s book Collapse: How

He believes that the islanders cut each tree down one by one for materialistic and impractical purposes
with no consideration to consequences of their actions, and claims that we are currently doing the
same thing to our planet. Could Diamond be right? Could the story of Easter Island truly be
considered a parable in respect to our need for oil and other natural resources? The purpose of this
research paper is to take a consequentialist approach to explore the ethical claims Diamond makes of
environmental irresponsibility on Easter Island and its unique case of deforestation. I hold that
Diamond s claim of Easter Island s self induced environmental degradation is wholly misleading as a
parable for our planet s current path toward environmental sustainability. Rather, I will show that the
past inhabitants of this small island were, in fact, environmental stewards, and that they overcame
challenges that were brought on by causes that were completely out of their control. Furthermore, I
will explain how Diamond s claim that Easter Island being a fair comparison is very misleading in
regards to our current environmental situation, as the occurrences on Easter Island are far different
than what put our planet in the environmental challenges we are currently

  • 3. Wright Brothers Evolution After the motor car was invented the world thought they could do just about anything. Men had always dreamed of taking to the sky and soaring like birds, now they could. On December171903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina this dream became a reality when the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, discovered a way to fly, making the world a little bigger. With the invention of the first flying machine and their investigation into aeronautics, the Wright Brothers, paved the way for the future of flight. Their father was afraid of losing them both in a plane crash and made them promise that they would never fly together. However, on May251910, the brothers flew a 6 minute flight together. Orville piloted this momentous flight. After they landed, Orville took his 82 year old father on his first and last flight. While Orville gained elevation, Milton cried out, After their successful flight, the Wright brothers approached the governments of England, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States War Department. After a few private sales, the War Department commissioned a plane in 1907. With this purchase, the Brothers opened up a school to teach pilots about the airplane. The first of these schools was established in Montgomery, Alabama on March151910. After receiving the schooling, these pilots were then able to instruct future pilots. In 1909, the French government also bought a plane with the condition that could have one that could carry a passenger. The brothers quickly went to work and added an additional seat and increased the power of the motor. Aviation was beginning to take flight! Flight has expanded the world s horizon. Through flight we can now travel in a matter of minutes what used to take days. We are able to reach destinations which were once unreachable. During the first trip to the moon, Neil Armstrong carried a piece of the Wright Flyer with him, symbolizing the enormous impact that the Brothers had as pioneers of flight to him and those that would follow. The Wright Brothers were ordinary people who followed their dream. They never gave up and laid the foundation for aviation. Pioneers in the truest sense. The airplane, we have come to realize, has changed how we think and live. We know SO much more because of this brilliant invention. The airplane has and will forever influence our ... Mothers are frequently perceived as less competent employees, are thought to be less committed to their jobs, and are more likely to receive wage, hiring, and promotional penalties for having children (Correll, Benard, Paik, 2007). Contemporary norms only worsen the current situation: as women are socialised to prioritise caregiving and childrearing over their careers, employers become more and more hesitant to hire them, since they predict that they will be less likely to honour workplace commitments and more prone to leaving their jobs in the future (Schneebaum, 2013). Martin Scorsese s The Departed Essays The Departed, a film written by William Monahan, Alan Mak, and Felix Chong, directed by Martin Scorsese, was in my opinion a spectacular crime thriller deserving of less criticism from overly sentimental viewers. Though this film is in some scenes brutal and vicious, I praise Martin Scorsese s refusal to cower away from the undeniable truth that organized crime in the United States is murderous in nature just to satisfy certain viewers as critics advocated he should. Starting when Colin Sullivan is just a child and his encounter with Frank Costello s mentorship, the story then fast forwards to Costigan and Colin working their way through police training and eventually amounting to Costigan undercover and Colin as a detective. Inner Ring Essay Arroyo 1 Alex Arroyo Professor Ledri Aguilar English 120 30 August 2013 Inner Rings and the Motives that Come Along C.S Lewis delivered a speech named The Inner Ring at King s College, a University in London. As Lewis continues on in his speech, one may be a little thrown off by what these inner rings are and what exactly they mean to people. Although Lewis mentions both good and harmful inner rings, one could argue that most people find themselves so caught up in these inner rings they do not even realize they are trying to be involved in them for the wrong reasons. Some people strive to have a certain appearance that comes along with being involved in these inner rings that they tend to forget what really is important to them. ... Lewis even acknowledges this with his passage, Unless you take measures to prevent it, this desire is going to be one of the chief motives of your life, from the first day on which you enter your profession until the day when you are too old to care (Lewis 152). An example of today s inner ring would be fraternities at Colleges. People who aren t part of a certain fraternity would feel left out when they see the Frat s doing activities only Frat members are allowed to do. This might make one feel the need to fit in and do certain things they do not enjoy just to be accepted in a fraternity. Although this particular example does not apply to everybody, it still does not hide these inner rings because they can be found everywhere. Arroyo 4 Another example of an inner ring existing is social class in itself. Rich hang out with the rich, poor hang out with the poor. People obviously have different circumstances that make their social class rich or poor, but the ring still exists. Lower class people feel left out when they see the upper class driving nicer cars, eating expensive dinners, and living in expensive homes. The second stage is storage. The brain uses that recordable information and stores it to be used later. The final stage is retrieval. The brain the recovers that recordable information that was stored to use at a later date. There are three types of memory: sensory, short term and long term. First, a split second memory of sight, sound and other senses is sensory memory. Driving down the highway, I heard a car speeding towards me. The car nearly side swiped me. I smelled the burnt rubber as it swerved to miss me. I tried to quickly look at the license plate, but the car was driving fast. I caught a first glimpse of the plate, but could not remember it. This is an example of sensory memory. Information that is not retained is forgotten. The information that is retained is then stored in our short term memory. Second, short term memory remains in the brain for a short period of time, maybe 25 seconds unless it is reiterated over and over again to be preserved longer in the ... The majority of the population were slaves and slavery played a massive role in the Haitian economy and its abolishment had a massive impact. The events occurring in Europe, the French revolution for example, led to the slave revolt and ultimately the independence of Haiti in 1804. The rebellion in Haiti undoubtedly had an important role in world history. Between 1756 and1763, the economy of Saint Domingue gradually expanded, sugar and coffee becoming important export crops. The colony underwent rapid expansion during wars because it brought about a lot of demand for resources. In 1767, it exported 72 million pounds of raw sugar and 51 million pounds of refined sugar, one million pounds of indigo, and two million pounds of cotton [1]. Saint Domingue became known as the Pearl of Antilles and became one of the richest colonies in the 18th century French empire. By the 1780 s Haiti was producing forty percent of all sugar and sixty percent of all coffee consumed in Europe. It was the jewel of the French colonial economy and was vital for their strength. In 1789, a total of 500,000 African slaves were present in Haiti, working on plantations and were being ruled by 32,000 white colonialists [2]. • 20. Postcolonial Writing In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart is a modern example of postcolonial literature and is one of the most influential pieces of its genre. Postcolonial writing presents important themes and lessons of justice, equality, and freedom that can be applied to present times. It reminds us of how important our freedoms are and why we need to protect them. The colonized write about their exploitation and show how there is persecution in their colonized society. Postcolonial authors use specific methods to undermine their colonizers and reveal their backward logic. Things Fall Apart has various examples of meta narrative, decolonization struggles, and colonial discourse worked in throughout the novel. Chinua Achebe s writing styles showcase these techniques to subvert his European colonizers. Meta narrative is an important method that postcolonial authors use to show the colonizer s intolerance in the way they structure their stories. These authors point out these strategic ways that colonizers write so you can more easily see their bias and prejudice when addressing the colonized. Things Fall Apart has many instances of meta narrative, both big and small. One clear meta narrative example that Chinua Achebe writes: The story of this man who had killed a messenger and hanged himself would make interesting reading. • 22. Testing Conditioning Methods Through Sniffy Simulation Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation Amir Ayoub Fordham University Abstract This lab tests different forms of conditioning on a virtual rat named Sniffy. In this experiment we began with the virtual rat completely unconditioned and then worked towards getting Sniffy to pull the lever and get food on his own. We went through many steps to complete this task starting with getting Sniffy to notice the food chamber, the lever, and finally having Sniffy realize he can obtain food whenever he wanted by pressing the lever. Then, pushing it further, we made him press the level two, three, four and then five times to receive one pellet. All of these steps tested the idea that receiving the food as a reward will allow Sniffy to realize the benefits of learning and conditioning himself to do things that have a positive outcome more. Testing Conditioning Methods through Sniffy Simulation This lab is focused on the ideas of classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is when a neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit an unconditioned response. In time this turns the neutral stimulus into a conditioned stimulus that causes a conditioned response. Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through reinforcements and punishments for behavior and encourages associating desirable or undesirable outcomes with certain behaviors. Creating a platform of common understanding to children at an early age will help them initially and in the future. Initially, it exposes infants to language well before than can speak which gives their brains an advantage when it is time to transition into speaking English. A child s spoken language is the main goal, but baby sign language gives infants the opportunity to communicate much earlier than their first word. The average baby speaks their first word around the age of two, and the average infant being taught sign language can produce their first sign in under a year. A study done by Bonvillian, Orlansky, and Novack observed 11 infants that were being taught sign language. Their findings revealed that on average, the first sign was produced around eight and a half months, and the earliest baby signed their first sign at five and a half months (Thompson, Cotnoir Bichelman, McKerchar, Tate, Dancho, 2007). These numbers show one of the clear advantages of baby sign language. The difference between an infant learning sign language and one who is not, is a whole year of additional communication. It is hard enough for parents to identify the needs of their baby, but sign language helps fill that void sooner. Pressure is taken off of both the baby and caregiver when ... The food that I use to describe as good food, I am beginning to undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch.
